Persuasive Speech On Physician Assisted Suicide

I personally have dealt with people in my life that battled terminal illness

Existing laws in the states that permit physician assisted suicide require that patients have a terminal
illness (including Alzheimer s, Parkinson s, heart disease, cancer, and many other debilitating
diseases). You must be of sound mind (competent to make decisions), and be expected to die within
six months of submitting your request. (Soo Borson is a professor of psychiatry and behavioral
sciences and psychosocial and community health nursing at the University of Washington.)
C. The specific method in each state varies, but mainly involves a prescription from a licensed
physician approved by the state in which the patient is a resident.
PAS is very different than euthanasia because it is centralized around choice.
In PAS, the patient must self administer the medications; the assisted portion attributes to a physician
providing the medications, but the patient decides whether and when to ingest the lethal medication.
Euthanasia occurs when a third party administers medication or acts directly to end the patient s life.
Euthanasia is illegal in every state, including Washington. (CNN).
Two of the costly effects of limiting this option is lack of respect for autonomy and refusing to grant
death upon those that wish for it.
Transition: I will first go into the lack of choice that s

“Advertising
Advertising A judicious mixture of flattery and threats. Stephen Leacock
Considering advertisements as a type of connection used by marketers to make their product known
by the public, it is admitted that advertising corporations prey anyone and every age group without
any regard to the possible negative effects of their work as long as it pays off. However, when these
ads and advertisements target children, they become overwhelming and harmful not only for them and
their families, as individuals, but for the society as well. As a consequence of knowing every personal
detail of our lives, Marketers learn how to convert them into profit. Convincing us to become their
customers is a priority since Selling, buying, and making good deals ... Show more content on

Schlosser is not judging the actions of these companies; however, he relies on the usage of logos to
prove his point and persuade his audience without actually providing his opinion. The terrifying truth
about the negative impact of these ads on children, who are supposed to be attracted by interesting
activities that collaborate to their growth and development made the author defending them since it is
alarming to realize that, the typical American child now spends about twenty one hours a week
watching television roughly one and a half months of TV every year (Schlosser 357). Schlosser gives
more details about the bitter reality of the kids of this century who are unfortunately preyed by many
advertising corporations and ads companies. In addition to logos, the author appeals to pathos to evoke
his audience s emotional feeling as all the facts are about children which works well with his purpose.
To convince the audience of how important it is not involving children in marketing, the author uses a
vivid description of many situations where kids show the uncooperative effects of these lucrative
corporations on them. It is worth to note that, his description makes it easy for the reader to visualize
the scenes where children are showing the hidden information absorbed before whether from their
casual sitting in front of a TV, reading them online, or just by applying the rules of

Zero Tolerance In Schools
Sparked by President Bill Clinton s Gun Free Schools Act of 1994, the zero tolerance policy has
discouraged and punished students who hinder learning in schools by fighting, using profane words,
disobeying rules, and bringing drugs, alcohol, and weapons to school. This policy s goal is to make
schools an efficient and safe place to grow and develop cognitively, socially, and emotionally. Without
this conduct, not only would some students behave irrationally, they would harm fellow peers and
make school a dangerous place to be. It would be difficult for administrators to discern what is right
and wrong if they have the opportunity to be biased or lenient. Zero tolerance in schools creates a safe
learning environment for students without drugs, alcohol, and weapons present; this policy prepares
students for the real world and reduces subjectivity in the administrators. When a parent drops his or
her child off at school each day, the parent assumes their child will be kept safe by the administration
at the school. It is expected by all parents that staff at schools work hard to keep the learning
environment of their student s secure. Lynn nore Chittom and Maureen McMahon argue in Point:
Schools Need Tougher Security to Eliminate School Violence, Public schools have the responsibility
to keep children safe... they must adopt tougher security measures to combat the problem of school
violence. Any negative response to security personnel... needs to change to an acceptance of

The Story Of Jack London
Jack London is considered one of Americans best writers in time. London is considered a naturalist,
which is one of the movements during the time of 1865 1915. A naturalist is where a writer portrays
the characters as victims of the environment. One famous short story that Jack London wrote is To
Build a Fire . This short story shows the main conflict of nature versus man. It is set in the Yukon Trail
during the winter time. London took part in the Klondike Gold Rush which gave him the inspiration to
write To Build a Fire . The one major character that the story focuses on is the unnamed man. The
unnamed man is a protagonist in the story. The man s character is revealed through his looks,
thoughts, and actions. The unnamed man s looks give readers a sense of who the character is. The man
is traveling through the Yukon Trial to a campsite in Henderson Creek. It is the season of winter and
the way he dresses puts an impact on how well prepared he is for this journey. Winter in the Alaska is
quite different then a winter in the south. The temperature that the man is traveling in is negative
seventy five degrees Fahrenheit. In To Build a Fire , London states Fifty degrees below zero stood for
a bite of frost that hurt and that must be guarded against by the use of mittens, ear flaps, warm
moccasins, and thick socks (1813). The man knowing of the basic clothing to have during this journey
shows that he knows what type of weather he is about to embark in. However, while

Analysis Of Storm Warnings By Adrienne Rich
No storm is experienced the same. Seeing a storm on the horizon has the power to stir up gripping
memories, introspective thoughts, and convoluted emotions. The poem Storm Warnings , by Adrienne
Rich, applies a predictable structure paired with flowing syntax, and ambiguous diction speaking both
of weather and emotions to illustrate that one cannot avoid the tribulations of life, embodied as the
approaching storm, but instead prepare for their arrival. Storm Warnings, true to its literal subject
matter, possesses flowy sweeping syntax created by the strategic use of commas and phrasing to draw
parallels between the physical oncoming winds and the gales of life. The author crafts a long run on
sentence that spans the first stanza and carries on into the latter portion of the second to mirror the
continuous flowing of windy weather and the forward motion of life. Once the speaker notices the
brewing storm, they walk from window to closed window, watching boughs strain against the sky. In
this portion of the affromented run on sentence, alliteration, rhythm, and the repetition of words all
contribute to the impression of movement. The various w sounds at the beginnings of words and the
repetition of the word window create a sensation of continuously flowing forward, especially when
read aloud; the comma adds a small swirling pause to the rhythm, which is then soon after resumed
with the word watching. Just as the poem rhythmically moves forward with its long phrases connected
with frequent commas, so must life carry on with each additional experience, whether it be
misfortunes or joys. The elongated syntax allows all these elements to work together within sentences
to highlight the similarities between physical storms and emotional struggle and to stress the
inevitability of predicaments in life.
Despite the flowing syntax, the poem has a clear and predictable structure to replicate the persona s
calm familiarity with experiencing and answering to storms in their life. It is interesting to note that
even though parlous weather is on its way, there is a lack of panic, chaos, and anomalies in the
structure of the poem. There continues to be seven lines in each stanza throughout the piece;

The Ethics Of Medical Appointments
Today the Army is an organization that closely manages every penny spent to avoid what it considers
wasteful spending on inefficient practices. Across the board, within the scope of Army activities exist
many practices that are wasteful and take money from other areas of necessity. Medical treatment by
way of medical appointments is one such process that has had to undergo a shift in practice as medical
appointment failures have risen during intense budget constraints. As an Army major command
(MACOM), the medical command has worked to convey that all sites where medical facilities exist
are all echoing the same message across the board to change the mentality towards missing
appointments. With the MEDCOM looking to adjust it own practices across its own enterprise, the
command is also looking to spread the message to supported MACOM with the intent of spreading an
understanding that Corps leaders must update policy and implement control measures including
strategic messaging that stops wasting over $ 4 million in missed appointments while simultaneously
prioritizing mission accomplishment and continuity of care. Residual cost and missed appointments.
Service members view medical appointments as an opportunistic benefit for their status with the
armed forces. More specifically, it was a benefit that for many years has been taken advantage of only
in the fact that if the service member or family member was not able to make it they simply just did
not call and could assume

What Is The Theme Of Sexualism In The Eve Of St Agnes By...
Pre Raphaelite art was a movement was born of poetry, English Romanti cism texts inspired the young
artists of the Brotherhood. The first of these texts The Eve of St Agnes, a poem by John Keats and key
text from Romanticism that served as inspiration for John Everett Millais and William Holman Hunt
and spawned the dawn of the Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood. A romantic tale of elopement and
awakening sexuality, young Porphyro hides in Madeline s bed chamber,
Even to Madeline s chamber, and there hide Him in a closet, of such privacy that he might see her
beauty unespied,
And win perhaps that night a peerless bride,
While legion d faires pac d the coverlet,

The name Pre Raphaelite came from their opposition of the academy s promotion of the Renaissance
painter Raphael. Other inspirations came from art critic John Ruskin s encouragement to go to nature ,
believing art to be a serious subject that should be treated with maximum realism and truth.
The principal philosophies of their movement were primarily religious, but would often draw
inspiration from texts and literature, particularly those associated with death and love. In their
paintings, the Brotherhood created an entirely new manner of presenting human anatomy by imbuing
their depictions of men and women with medieval and spiritual ideas in which they were so
captivated. Its original members; John Everett Millais, William Holman Hunt and Dante Gabriel
Rosetti s work became heavily influential after great opposition at the beginning, and a second phase
of the movement occurred at around 1860 with particular works ¬¬¬¬majorly influencing the
succeeding Symbolism movement.
After a 1984 exhibition of the Pre Raphaelite s works at the Tate Gallery, a shift in the interpretation of
their work took place. Instead, analysis grew upon the subject of gender and sexuality when it came to
light the relationships between the artistic work and the circumstances of its creation. Priorities over
the attitudes concerning women that thought of them as either devilish femme fatale s or virtuous

Oppositional Defiant Disorder And Mental Health Services
Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) is one of the most common clinical disorders in children and
adolescents (Nock, Kazdin, Hirpi Kessler, 2007). Greene et al. (2002) defines ODD as a recurrent
pattern of developmentally inappropriate levels of negativistic, defiant, disobedient, and hostile
behavior toward authority figures . ODD primarily consists of stubborn (e.g., tantrums) and aggressive
behaviors that the child attempts to rationalize based on the circumstances rather than view as
consequential and problematic (Kazdin, 2010). Therefore, ODD can have serious implications for the
child s functioning at home, in school, and in the community, so parents of children with ODD are
more likely to utilize child mental health services (Kazdin, 2010). The history, symptoms, diagnosis,
prevalence, age of onset, duration, risk factors, comorbidity, and treatments of ODD will be discussed,
as well as the rationale behind the revisions from the fourth (DSM IV) to fifth editions (DSM 5) of the
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. The ODD diagnosis was introduced by the
Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry in 1966 and appeared for the first time as a distinct
child/adolescent onset disorder in the third edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental
Disorders (DSM III) in 1980 (Nock et al., 2007). In the 35 years since its induction however, not much
more has been learned about the disorder because the majority of studies combine both ODD and

Essay On Athens Vs Sparta
Both Athens and Sparta hold great historic value for Greece and the world. Athens, the capital and
largest city in Greece was the symbol for freedom, art, and democracy. The city took its name from the
goddess Athena, the goddess of wisdom and knowledge. Sparta, a town near Evrotas River, was the
center of the Peloponnese in southern Greece. This Dorian Greek military state city was the protector
of Greece as it provided a large army for many years.
Both societies were very different in many aspects. Sparta was content with itself and provided its
army when required. Athens on the other hand wanted to take control of more and more land in
Greece. They could not defeat Sparta s army, however they had built a powerful navy which protected
Greece from the Persian threat during Xerxess invasion of Greece.
Sparta was an Oligarchy meaning it was ruled by few. It had five Ephors who were elected annually
along with a gerousia , similar to a senate to rule along with their two kings. ... Show more content on

Their culture was more forward looking than Athenians. Boys had mandatory military service. Sparta
women were stronger and they formed liaisons with the men they chose. Sparta women were
disallowed from wearing any cosmetic or jewelry and spent most of their time training as they were
judged on their physique. Women fit and in great shape would produce fit offspring, continuing the
military traditions of Sparta. They also spent time educating themselves unlike Athenian women, who
were denied an education.
It is clear that the Athenians had more freedom to do leisure items. With a democratic government, it
would be more possible for citizens to become part of politics, but it was possible for Spartans to be
elected as part of the senate. Citizens of Sparta was primarily focused on military so their freedom was
very limited to the activities in which they could

A Brief Biography of Mahatma Gandhi
Mohandas Mahatma Gandhi Mohandas Mahatma Gandhi was born in the western part of British ruled
India on October 2, 1869. When the British cracked down on Indian civil liberties after World War I,
Gandhi began to organize nonviolent protests. He enforced the ideas of nonviolence, passive
resistance, and civil disobedience by meeting with politicians, fasting, and launching campaigns to
protest in order to regain rightful ownership of Indian self government. He was very successful in
using passive resistance and teaching by example. By Gandhi doing all of this, there was a positive
outcome after all the hard work he and Indian people did. The outcome was that Britain s Parliament
passed on July 1947 the Indian Independence Act. Mohandas was the youngest member out of his
siblings. His father was a knowledgeable administrator, and very skillful at intervening between
British officials and the local civilians. His mother was an [extremely sincere believer] of
Vaishnavism, the worship of Vishnu, and she devoted herself to fasting and prayer. She taught
Mohandas values such as tolerance and ahimsa, or non injury to living beings (Szczepanksi 1). In
1883, the Gandhi s arranged a marriage between 13 year old Mohandas and a 14 year old girl named
Kasturba Makhanji. Unfortunately, the young couple s first child died in 1885, but they had four
surviving sons by 1900 (Szczepanksi 1). Gandhi went on to finish his education after his wedding. He

Athens Greek History
The History of Athens, Greece Athens history dates back longer than any other European city. Located
in Greece, Athens has been able to convert to the modern ways of the world while maintaining its
ancient atmosphere. Athens is assumed to have begun as a small Neolithic hill fort on top of Acropolis
sometime in the third millennium BC, and the city today has come a long way by building a very
successful society with over five million residents. In the beginning, the geographic location and
climate played a role in why people chose to live here, but today people travel from all over the world
to witness the rich history of the city for themselves. Over time, Athens contributed in huge ways to

Athens attacked Sicily, but with the help of the Spartans, the Sicily city of Syracuse broke the
blockade the Athenians had set up. The Spartans defeated the Athenian army and then destroyed them
once they tried to retreat. Athens was now stuck in a political turmoil, and their democracy was
overthrown by the oligarchical party. Due to several military victories, the Athenian navy found
confidence in themselves and decided to begin working on restoring the democracy. Sparta offered to
come to a peace agreement with Athens, but Athenian democratic leaders declined which lead to the
war at sea to continue. In 404 BC the war finally ended with the Athenians surrendering and Sparta
stripping them of their empire. Fortunately, Sparta did not destroy the city itself. Athens capitulated
and their defeat resulted as the worst war so far in history, hurting Greece s military strength.
Thucydides who was an Athenian general during the war stated that the cause behind the war was
human greed and desire for power, and he viewed the war as a complete disaster. Many people
probably wonder how it was possible for Athens to still be a powerful city after all the devastation the
city went through. Fortunately, all the events leading up to the loss to Sparta helped keep Athens
history alive and the achievements of Athens in philosophy, drama, and art continued even after the
city s success faded. After a long

The Importance Of Social Constructionism On Sexuality
Social construction has been an extremely influential and hot debating topic in the past century. It is a
term where everyone almost has heard but quite a few actually understand. The social constructionist
perspective on sexuality, on the other hand, began to rise during the sexual revolution of the 1960s.
Every social constructionist has their own approach to sexuality. Thinkers such as Gary Kinsman,
Fausto Sterling both discussed their approach towards social constructionism on sexuality. (Missing
out thesis statement, not sure how to write it) Social Constructionism is the belief that society agrees
upon definitions of categories, and how we are taught to fit into these categories. It is referring to the
way we create meaning through social interaction with others. Also, it is the view of thought looks at
our life and reality tries to see what is truly exist, and what is only exist because we say it is. For
instance, money is just tinted papers and metals that have no value other than we have assigned them.
They only exist because when we give them a reality and value through social agreement so therefore
we can use them to purchase goods with. Besides, there are many things in our life that we experience
only exist because we have created them. Take language, for example, it is created as a patterned
system of communication and reflecting our social context. It follows that language is culturally
appointed. The categories and the pattern of language, therefore reflect

Kite Runner Dysfunctional Family Relationships
Dysfunctional family relationships can be observed in the relationship between mothers and
daughters, fathers and sons, and just about every correspondence between family members. Often, this
type of relationship results from a weak or poor connection within a family. Dysfunctional family
relationships can become negative in the sense that they generate impractical feelings toward one
another, and create secrets and lies. Critically acclaimed author, Khaled Hosseini explores the theme
of dysfunctional family relationships in his novel, The Kite Runner, through the father to son
relationship of the protagonist, Amir, and his father who lacks interest and separates himself from his

Distress Thermometer
Distress is an unpleasant emotional experience of a psychological, social and/or spiritual nature that
might interfere with the ability to cope effectively with cancer, its physical symptoms and the
treatment that occurs, before, during and/or after the diagnosis (NCCN, 2003). In the Psychosocial
aspect of cancer patients and their diagnosis, the distress thermometer is a tool that can help both the
patients and staff in beginning a conversation with each other about difficulty going on before or after
a cancer diagnosis. People who are at a higher risk of heightened distress, are people with subordinate
cancer diagnosis, in reoccurring cancer patients, in younger patients, and in married people.
There are many potential consequences that can occur when patients are not screened for distress.
Consequences are and not limited to poorer faithfulness to management advices, worse satisfaction
with care and worse quality of life (Jacobsen lee, 2007). However, the benefits of using a distress

A Day Of Celebration And Honor

increasingly involved in the underground movement in an attempt to save Jews from Hitler s cruel

camps, food cards to sustain them, and aided in the set up of alarms and security around the house.
The ten Booms didn t begrudge the Jews their religion, though different from their own. They
embraced it and merely did the right thing. However, on February 28, 1944, the ten Boom family was

Some well known medicine companies in western countries, therefore, take advantage of the bountiful

Executive s Emotional Intelligence, Insight, And...
Executive s emotional intelligence (EI), insight, and authority aptitudes have a clear connection to

For the most part, incredible leaders know how their leadership style impacts their followers, and this
knowledge makes them great leaders. Genuinely incredible leaders recognize, comprehend and deal
with their feelings, as well as knowing what they can do with individuals in an exceptionally engaging
manner. Motivating and inspiring others is paramount to effective leadership (Kotter, 2012). In
addition to having this enthusiastic insight, it is crucial for leaders to understand the importance of
having compassion, self awareness, and respect to communicating effectively with the individuals that
they lead. Leaders that understand and connect with their employees on an emotional level are seen as

Animal Symbology in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and...
In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and the Lais of Marie de France, the authors use animals as
metaphors for human actions, and as characters. By analyzing the use of these animals, we are able to
explore the meaning the authors were trying to communicate through specific scenes. The Book of
Beasts, a translation by T.H. White (1984 ed.), provides a medieval standpoint when analyzing the use
of animals in the Lais and in Gawain.
In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, there is specific use of three animals as metaphors for human
actions. These animals are the deer, boar, and fox. When Gawain rests with the Lord and Lady on his
way to battle with the Green Knight, we see three hunting scenes, which coincide with three

A fox will feign death in order to snatch up carrion eaters for his food, which is similar, as the author
claims, to the devil. The devil snatches up people who live in the flesh, or by the doings of the foxy
body (pg 54). In this seduction scene, Gawain is tempted one last time by the Lady, who seems to live
in the flesh. Her major role in Gawain s visits has been as a temptress trying to make Gawain her
lover. By Gawain s reaction, it seems that her flirting may be working on him when he states:
So faultless her features... / His heart swelled swiftly with surging joys / ...Each joyed in other s sight
(lines 1761 1767)
Yet again, he is able to reject her temptation and the pleasures of the flesh. He states that he has no
lover, and will not have one for quite some time. The Lady is disappointed but leaves stating that she
must at least give him some token of affection. Gawain accepts the sash, for which he later feels guilty
and confesses.
In The Lais of Marie de France, there are several animals used as both metaphors and characters. Four
lais that include the use of animals are Equitan, Bisclavert, Yonec and Laustic. White s translation
states that equi is the name for a horse in the medieval period, when Marie was writing. The title
Equitan is also the name of the king of the story. The king has a great love of hunting and war.
According to the Book of Beasts, this is a natural

Coraline Movie Analysis

Coraline and MK ULTRA The movie Coraline is about Monarch Programming project MK Ultra. MK
Ultra was a mind control program created by the CIA. It basically works by submitting the subject to
extreme torture to create a second personality, which can be triggered at any time to perform any
action required by the handler. This was shown a lot in the movie Captain America: Civil War with the
character Bucky Barnes, who was turned into a slave through MK Ultra. The movie Coraline is about
a young girl, sharing the name of the film, who is neglected by her family and finds a portal in her
new home to a fictional world where her parents have buttons for eyes and spend all of their time on
her and love her unconditionally. (SPOILERS) Everything is basically backwards and better in this
world. In the end it turns out her other mother wanted to take her eyes and kill her to retain her youth.
Coraline escapes from her other mother and all is well. The opening scene of the movie is essentially a
symbolic summary of the entire mind control process. It starts with a creepy metal hand and a doll of a
little girl. The hand obviously representing the handler, and the doll the subject. First the clothes are
removed with scissors, referencing abuse. Then the hair is ripped from the doll s head, a form of very
traumatic torture. Then the eyes are ripped out of the doll, which is a very large symbol of MK Ultra

Popsicle Sticks Research Paper
Many Sunday School teachers and Vacation Bible School teachers have to find kids bible crafts to use
with the children in their classes. They have to find crafts that will teach the stories from the bible and
that entertain children as well. There are many options available for these teachers that the kids will
enjoy creating.
Popsicle Sticks
Popsicle sticks are extremely inexpensive and can be bought in bulk. Popsicle sticks can be used to
create a variety of interesting projects. They can be painted to resemble almost anything and can be
glued together to create large scale projects. One project kids can make using popsicle sticks is Noah s
Ark. After children learn the story about Noah building the ark to survive the flood, they can build an
actual ark using the popsicle sticks and even paint the sticks to look realistic. They can further
replicate the ark by adding details to it such as animals.
Posters
Kids bible crafts should involve art projects because kids love to create their own art. One art project
that kids like to complete involves making posters. Bible stories can get confusing for kids because

A Career As A Cardiologist
Cardiology studies and treats diseases and abnormalities of the heart and blood vessels. There are two
parts to the cardiologist job. The first being a cardiologist specializes in the diagnosing, preventing
and treating the diseases of the heart and blood vessels. The second is an interventional cardiologist
which can perform a number of invasive tests and procedures to assist in the diagnosing and
treatments of the disease. There are also Cardio vascular surgeons who specialize in the surgeries of
the heart and vascular system. To be able to treat patients cardiologists can perform a number of tests
such as echocardiograms (soundwave picture to look at the structure and function of the heart),
Ambulatory ECG (recording during activity to look for abnormal heart rhythms), Exercise test (study

diagnose a patient with aortic stenosis, which is the narrowing of the aortic valve orifice, caused by
failure of the valve leaflets opening like normal. Another diagnosis could end up being acute
myocardial infarction also known as a heart attack. Which is normally caused by a blockage.
Pulmonary embolic disease may be another diagnosis they may come to a conclusion on based on
symptoms. The two most common causes for this disease is pulmonary embolism and deep venous

Negative Effects Of Immigration
All they do is break families apart and bring mental health issues to the children involved. This is
called deportation. Deportation is to expel a foreigner from a country on grounds of illegal status, and
this happens in America frequently. Does deportation affect Americans positively or negatively? Many
say that having all these illegal immigrants in America just costs America money and it takes away
money and jobs that would otherwise be for U.S. citizens. While others disagree and say that
immigrants have helped the economy greatly and if they are deported the economy will suffer the
consequences. Although, there are some positives when it comes to deportation, the majority of its
ripple effect hurts many Americans. The people that pay the highest price for deportation are the
families of mixed status that are being broken apart.
In an article about the families involved with deportation the claim of the authors is that deportation
has many negative effects on the citizen children of immigrants. The authors point out that the
separation of these mixed status families causes many mental illnesses for these kids that put their
lives on pause. The authors claim is that because these children were born in American soil they all
have the right to the 14th amendment, so they all have accorded birthright citizenship. The author
demonstrates throughout the article that even though these children were born here in America, they
often don t get the citizenship right because of

Military Technology s Impact on the Environment Essay
The evolution of military technology through the more efficient and innovative utilization of natural
resources has helped shape the environment in a wide range of areas. Homo sapiens lacking strong
jaws, sharp teeth, and cutting claws have employed tools to better conquer the natural environment
and vie with each other for scarce resources. These scarce resources such as wood and a myriad of
metals have been harnessed to advance military technology. In doing so, military technology s impact
on the environment has steadily increased through time. The incorporation of metals into military

12 13). It can be conjectured that the proliferation of iron production polluted the atmosphere more
than previous metal making, and lead to an expansion of mining. The introduction of guns and cannon
required both bronze and iron to create them. This put an added pressure on these resources, and also
created more foundries that required wood and charcoal. The most direct way that metals contributed
to environmental degradation was the issue of mining s impact on the natural environment. However,
it is hard to decipher the effects of mining in ancient times because it usually occurred in less densely
populated areas and didn t benefit from industrialization. From the industrial revolution to the present
age, mining has been proven to cause contamination of the water table and affect the integrity of hill
slopes causing a greater potential of mudslides (Bell and Donnelly, Ch. 6 and Ch. 8). Either a
limitation of the general knowledge of ancient mining, or a personal lack of knowledge on this issue
makes it harder to discern the direct environmental impacts of mining before the era of
industrialization beyond the need for wood, diplomacy, and military campaigns to harness and utilize
metals successfully. Another important resource that military technology exploited and contributed to
ecological change was wood. Around 1800 BC improvements to wooden

Minimum Cleanliness Level The Oil
The industries standard for this are set by ISO standards. The minimum cleanliness level the oil must
have is ISO 18/16/13. Each number in this number code represents the maximum allowable number of
particles in the oil greater than 2 microns, 5 microns, and 15 microns in size respectively. Hard to
implement in our design (can t justify this concisely) not really necessary?
The filtration system configuration can be seen below in Figure 4. The pump draws the oil out of the
sump and through a prefilter. It then positively directs the oil towards the solenoid valve which directs
it through one of the two parallel filtration systems. Each filtration system is equipped with a 10
micron filter and two 4 micron filters set in a parallel configuration. The oil then passes through the 10
micron filter which will remove all particles of 10 microns in size or greater. The oil then enters a flow
divider valve which properly diverts the oil to two separate 4 micron filters for further oil cleansing.
Likewise, the 4 micron filters will remove all particles of 4 microns or greater. From here, the oil
flows through a check ball valve to ensure no backflow into the filters. This is necessary due to the
merging of the two parallel 4 micron filters. After leaving the first filter configuration the oil is then
directed towards the cooling system. However before it reaches the cooler, it passes an alternate route
towards the bypass filtration system. This system does not circulate

their expenditures on food, transport and other spending to a bare minimum. These forms of dwellings
exploit the need for affordable housing of low income families, and are often dangerous and

People were injured and killed as they tried to find their way out of a maze of subdivided flats and

involve the construction of narrow hallways. Fire safety codes may be violated, rendering residents
highly vulnerable to fires and gas leakages since they cannot escape quickly enough at the time of
accidents. Structures of buildings may also be damaged, which exposes the block to the threat of
collapsing. Hygienic conditions are also unacceptable. Unlike housing estates, these unauthorized

Weigh My Truck Research Paper
Fleet owners, carriers and individual truckers are all governed by federal restrictions when it comes to
the weight of vehicles that operate on the Interstate Highway System, which covers roughly 50,000
miles of limited access, divided highways that traverse the country. States also set their own
commercial vehicle weight standards and limits. Currently, federal standards allow for 20,000 pounds
on a single axle, 34,000 pounds on a tandem axle and 80,000 gross vehicle weight. Failure to comply
with these limits results in fines and unnecessary delays. Heavy duty and semi truck technology helps
keep drivers and carriers out of trouble and in compliance with the restrictions.
CAT Scale Locators
The only way to comply with federal weight restrictions for trucks is to weigh the vehicle to assure it s

axle weight and total vehicle weight are calculated. Locating a CAT scale nearby is a simple matter

The Settlement and Innovations of Ancient Rome Essay
The Settlement and Innovations of Ancient Rome
Rome is an ancient city located on the western coast of Italy by the
Meditterranian Sea.(3:289)
The city of Rome was founded, according to the legend, by Romulus in 753
BC. Remus and Romulus were two mythological sons of Mars, the god of war.
Through military expansion and colonizations, and by granting citizenship to conquered tribes, the
city joined all of Italy south of the Po in the
100 year period before 268 BC. First, the Latin and other tribes were joined, then the Etruscans (a
civili zed people north of Rome) and the
Greek colonies in the south. With a large army and several hundred thousand in reserve, Rome

(nearly all granted citizenship by Caracalla,212 AD) came to dominate the army and cival service.

provincial cities were su pplanted by a vast tax collecting bureaucracyin the 3d and 4th centuries.
The legal rights of women, children, and slaves were strenghtened. (1:721)
Roman innovations in civil engineering included water mills, windmills, and rotary mills and the use
of cement that hardened under water.
Monumental architechture (baths, theaters, apartment houses) relied on the arch and dome. The
network of roads (some still standing) stretched 53,000 miles, passing through moutain tunnels as long
as 3.5 miles. Co nceived in

Character Analysis Of The Pit And The Pendulum
The Pit and the Pendulum Character Analysis Essay Edgar Allen Poe s The Pit and the Pendulum uses
horror and suspicion to build up not only the storyline, but the persona of the narrator in which is also
the prisoner. The characteristics of the prisoner ties within the story to create trippy feelings of fear
and unassertiveness of whether or not he is truly safe. From the trials that the prisoner has faced, his
characteristic of resourcefulness, pessimistic, and terror are revealed and play a salient part of his slick
escape. The prisoner exemplifies resourcefulness which is shown through his actions of survival.
Despite his unstableness, he still manages to remain clever in such a frightening situation. Poe asserts
that the prisoner is resourceful considering he uses the hem of his robe to plot out his area: I tore a part
of the hem from the robe, and placed the fragment at full length, and at right angles to the wall. In
groping my way around the prison, I could not fail to encounter this rag upon completing the circuit.
(Poe 3). Being that he uses his resources to find his way around the tomb, he learns that he is among a
treacherous pit which could mean death. This action alters the whole course of the story due to the
possibility of the prisoner falling into the pit. The prisoner continues to show signs of resourcefulness
in the toughest situations: Observing that I remained without motion, one or two of the boldest leaped
upon the frame work and smelt at the surcingle. This seemed the signal for a general rush. Forth from
the well they hurried in fresh troops. They clung to the wood, they overran it, and leaped in hundreds
upon my person. (Poe 8). Using the rats as a pathway to his freedom from the pendulum, his quick
thinking saved his life. With that being said, the prisoner uses his traits of resourcefulness to escape
without letting fear block his tactics. Poe reveals the prisoners aspect of showing pessimistic traits
through his thoughts of seeing the worst outcome of events. The prisoner states, It was not that I
feared to look upon things horrible, but that I grew aghast lest there should be NOTHING to see. At
length, with a wild desperation at heart, I quickly unclosed my

The Early Development Of Human Consciousness
The early development of human consciousness seems to have given humans a genetic predisposition
to the belief in religion. During this early development many chemicals known as entheogens were
used during religious sacraments and ceremonies, especially during times when religion was
undergoing critical stages of development. Once early humans could communicate concepts
effectively they utilized experiences derived from such substances in the integration of theological
belief systems.
Describing psychoactive substances without using a word that has a negative connotation attached to
it can be difficult. In an effort to combat this problem, a committee under the chairmanship of Carl
Ruck described after trying out a number of words he came up with entheogen, god generated within ,
which his committee unanimously adopted (Wasson 30). Psychoactive substances, or entheogens,
have been researched for years by scientists, however, research into their historical significance is
severely limited. The origin of religion cannot simply be looked at through the perspective of
entheogens, there are many factors associated with it which spread multiple fields. Science, sociology,
history, archeology, psychology, chemistry and botany all cross over when researching this subject.
James McClenon has argued that the conceptions of religion have their origins in the evolution of
psychophysiological structures associated with hypnotizability. If one is susceptible to a hypnotic

By 1892 Thatcher had no choice but to use military force, although she worked closely with the

diplomacy failed, she dispatched a military task force that accomplished her goal. (Margaret Thatcher

realize that the divine beings were an essential piece of Greek thought and religious life on the
grounds that their divine beings are available in their writing. For instance, in Sophocles Oedipus the
King, the principle battle is between Oedipus through and through freedom and the prescience made
by Apollo, a Greek god. The Greeks trusted that the divine beings meddled with regular day to day
existence of man. Dissimilar to the perspective of God in Judaism or Christianity, the Greek divine
beings spoke to turmoil and

Americans With Disability Act Essay
Introduction
The history of the Americans with Disabilities Act began long before it was originally introduced to
Congress in 1988. (Mayerson, 1992). There isn t one person responsible for the ADA but rather
thousands of Americans who have fought for the rights of people with disabilities and constantly
worked to make their lives easier. People with disabilities for a long time were thought of as outsiders
in society and were shunned by the majority. It wasn t until the 1900 s when organizations by and for
people with disabilities exploded in popularity and began to get attention and make real positives
changes for people struggling with disabilities (Meldon). A profound and historic period for disability
public policy occurred under ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Specifically, in a case known as the Sutton Trilogy of 1999 in which the Disability Rights Education
and Defense Fund participated presenting arguments in favor of a broad interpretation of the definition
of disability presented by the ADA, the high court ruled resulting in a significantly limited
interpretation of the federal definition of disability. This was the first ruling that eventually lead to the
ADAAmendments Act of 2008 which was passed in response to the number of decisions by the
Supreme Court that had interpreted the original text of the ADA (Brief History of Civil Rights, 2017).
The ADAAA was signed into law in September of 2008 by President George W. Bush to counteract
the Supreme Court s narrow interpretation of disability and provide broad protection from
discrimination (Timeline of the ADA). One of the things that the ADAAA required was that courts
interpreting the ADA and other federal disability laws focus on whether the covered entity had
discriminated, rather than whether the individual seeking the law s protection had an impairment that
fit within the technical definition of the term disability (Brief History of Civil Rights, 2017). The
ADAAA took effect in 2009 and had multiple regulations updated over the next couple years.
Currently, the ADA celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2015 and continues to maintain that the
definition of disability should be construed in favor of broad coverage of

Self Reflection And Professional Development
In my journey of becoming a professional teacher, the main two events which took place in my life
were self reflection and professional development.
In my opinion, self reflection is to reflect back and think about what I have done in order to develop
myself. As it is written in the Collaborative website of the MCH Training Grantee Network, self
reflection is the way of evaluating the effect of our values, style of thinking and communicating and
experience. Also the process of self reflecting helps to develop people s culture, skills and principles
since these may affect the future actions and learning.
There are many benefits of self reflection. It helps teachers to give a clear picture of what they have
done before in their life. And what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As professional learning association in the year 2015 states, professional development is defined to be
the basic tool that education institutes can use to help the teaching staff continuously learn and
develop their skills and knowledge. According to Guskey. T, (2010), high quality professional
development is the major element in nearly every modern proposal for improving education,
The primary purpose of professional development is to prepare and support teachers by giving them
the knowledge and skills they need to help all students achieve high standards of learning and
development (U.S. Department of Education, 1996).
Professional development is not a one day job. It should be a continuous thing if teachers want to
become knowledgeable. In the early days, to refresh teachers, weekly workshops or seminars were
conducted which was not very effective. Now the trend has changed. It became a continuous process.
All the trainings that are carried out including course level ones are also known as professional
development. Teachers gain a lot of knowledge, training and experience from those

Interpretation Of King Lear
Arnold Kettle s interpretation of Shakespeare s King Lear and his misfortune, especially when looking
at Lear s reaction to the storm in Act 3, Scene 4. Renaissance.. Kettle s assertion of Lear s
development through experience and action are relevant when considering Act 3. 4. 6 23: the writer
uses Leer s dissolution and critical revaluation in the storm to promote the idea of literal engagement.
Throughout lines 1 9, Lear s rise begins when he physically faces a storm as a homeless person a
complete contrast of an image of a powerful king, promoting a platform upon which Lear s
reconstruction can begin. Interestingly enough, the storm s purpose serves to enlightenment Lear, in
order to force re evaluate about his current focus point. He has misplaced his priorities, which echoes
in the statement: But where the greater malady is fixed, The lesser is scarce felt. Lear admits to the
psychological weakness of trying to hold onto his pride through his daughters his distorted definition
of himself. We are once again ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tis a lie, I am not ague proof. Most importantly, Lear has come to terms with the fact that he is not a
god, an important distinction which Shakespeare uses to enable Lear to define his body. A humility
which negates the idea that he is some sort of divine being capable of manipulating the weather.
Therefore, Lear has learnt to separate himself from an unnatural and illogical society. This is done
when Lear s perception changes about the natural world which refuses to come to his rescue. This
influences Lear to disregard the fact that he is no way divine, enabling him to relate himself to those
which he perceived as lower. This idea is further expressed in Act 3. 4, 102 9. Now that he has learnt
his new reality through the storm, Lear is enabled to identify humans according to their most
fundamental characteristics. This is evident when the King accurately identifies the true nature of the

Case Study Philadelphia Eagles
It looks like a former Eagle could be returning to the nest. According to ESPN s Adam Schefter, the
Philadelphia Eagles are likely to pursue to Washington Professional Football Team wide receiver
DeSean Jackson in free agency. This does not come as a surprise as the Eagles problems in the wide
receiver unit have been well documented this season. Schefter also reported that multiple teams
believe that reunion could happen and that Jackson and new Eagles head coach Doug Pederson are big
admirers of each other. Jackson, who just turned 30 years old, a few days ago has not slowed down
one bit. The speedy wideout is still getting the job this season as he has 38 receptions (70 targets) for
585 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Over his

Essay on Classroom Observation Report
Classroom Observation
On Monday February 24, 2014 I visited Mrs. Randus third and fourth grade split class at Kline
Elementary. Her classroom consisted of a mixture of third and fourth grade students who were tested
and labeled as gifted in various subject matters. Mrs. Randus was responsible for teaching the children
language and reading skills. The class consisted of an equal number of boys and girls, along with a
wide variety of cultures. According to my observation, Cushner, McClelland, and Safford (2000) were
correct when they stated, Schools, in particular, are cultural crossroads in ... Show more content on

The web page also contains a daily trivia question that is worth extra credit if answered correctly. Mrs.
Randus classroom exemplified a third wave school (Cushner et al., 2000). The technology was very
impressive and up to date. The students of her class are very lucky to be on the cutting edge of
technology.
When the children returned from recess some of them returned to their seats and began to work on
projects, while others crowded around the computers to view the new additions to their web site. The
children looked excited and eager to learn. It was obvious from the beginning of the observation that
Mrs. Randus practices progressivism (Clark, 2000). Her students were given the free will to do as they
pleased when first entering the classroom. By letting her students explore the contents of the class web
page, they were learning through discovery and working together in communities around the
computers. It was also evident when she started class with a vote that she practices the progressivism
theory of education (Clark, 2000). She asked the children if they wanted to go to the library first or
start class with a game of vocabulary bingo. The excited students choose bingo, took their seats, and
gave their full attention to Mrs. Randus.
Throughout the bingo game the children were very attentive and eager to show their knowledge of the

Active Tips For Active Tags
Active tags
Active tags require the most power because they can initiate communication to other tags or a reader
device. They have a greater range of operation and have been applied to asset control and tracking
livestock because of the greater range active tags allow (Weis, 2007, p. 10). Therefore, active tags
require more maintenance, but they can broaden the scope in how RFID systems can be used. Some
active tags can be equipped with an acceleration sensor that can determine when the tag begins
accelerating and then transmit a signal to the reader. One example that this can be useful for is in
shipping container transportation. Shipping containers can be lost at sea after falling off a ship and
traditional RF technology may not be able to detect it in time. However, active tag RFID systems with
an acceleration sensor can notify the system when the container begins falling, making it possible to
recover (Weis, 2007, p. 10). Figure 3, below, shows the different characteristics of active and passive
tags.
Figure 3: Characteristics of active and passive tags (Ahsan, 2010, p. 3).
The memory chip, which is embedded in a silicon chip, can be adjusted or not adjusted based on its
read/write characteristics (Ahsan, 2010). How that information is stored or accessible is defined by
those characteristics. There are three types of tag read/write characteristics: read only, write once, and
read write. Read only tags cannot be changed or erased after their identification data has

Airplanes In The Flying Machine
Over the course of the century humans have created notable inventions in attempts to satisfy their
needs. Medicine was invented to treat and cure illnesses , but many abuse the benefits these drugs to
offer. Also , weapons were invented as a tool used for surviving which meets along with human
necessities , however, countless individuals mishandle the valuable use of these weapons. Similarly ,
airplanes were invented to provide transportation ,however, plenty of humans misuse the benefits of
these transport have to offer. Ray Bradbury wrote The Flying Machine to give a message to readers

This quote relates accurately to the situation of airplanes being brutally misused associated with the
tragic event occur of 911 in United State of America (Bradbury 5). The world can be full of beauty if

Theme Of The Sanyasi s A Tiger For Malgudi
A Tiger for Malgudi
The Sanyasi in A Tiger for Malgudi upholds the Gandhian values of non violence, love, understanding
and sympathy. The central theme of A Tiger for Malgudi is Gandhian in the sense that the novel
presents the victory of the Gandhian virtues over violence and rudeness. Narayan presents two sets of
contrasting relationships between Raja, the tiger and the Captain at first and between Raja and the
freedom fighter turned Sanyasi later in the novel.
The relation of the captain and the tiger is that of the master and the slave the ruler and the ruled. This
binary relation is mechanical, materialistic, momentary and compulsive; administered and monitored
through cane and fear. These relations are polarized in a way similar to ... Show more content on

If modern civilization stands for all this, I have understood it to do so, I call it satanic. (Mathur 34)
Gandhi was also against the Westernization in all forms. He avers:
Europe today represents not the spirit of God or Christianity but the spirit of Satan.... In reality, it is
worshipping Mammon. (Gandhi 144)
Gandhi considered the contemporary industrial civilization of Europe, a disease and evil for human
race. He firmly believed in the ancient spiritual status of India in the world and remarks:
I would have our leaders teach us to be morally supreme in the world. This land of ours was once, we
are told, the abode of gods. It is not possible to conceive gods inhabiting a land which is made hideous
by the smoke and the din of mill chimneys and factories. (Misra 61)
Narayan reproduces the same spirit and heritage of ancient India in Swami and Friends. To
countercheck the proliferation of industrialization and technology, Gandhi suggested novel methods
and means. He opines:
I believe that independent India can only discharge her duty towards a groaning world by adopting a
simple but ennobled life by developing her thousands of cottages and living at peace with the world.

The emergency medical services are proven to be slower in small rural areas than in a bigger city,
because most of the small town rural areas emergency response services are volunteer. While judging
the amount of coverage an emergency response station covers, government officials look at the
amount of people in a given area, not the mileage that area may cover. My hometown is mostly
farmland, with a population of seven hundred and fifty people, the farmland covers twenty five to
thirty miles in each direction. This may not sound like much land to cover, but when it comes to
saving lives, time is of the essence.
When coming up with what land the emergency services in the area covers, government officials
calculate the land in a area and how much taxes the land have in a given year and whether or not they
can afford emergency medical services. If a small town can not afford the cost of a full time medical
service, the government then puts the small town in the hands of the neighboring community that can
afford the emergency medical services. Sometimes the neighboring emergency medical services will
establish a volunteer EMT station in the small town to try and get as many emergency calls answered
as quickly as possible. Emergency medical systems are evaluated according to how they respond to
and treat out of hospital cardiac arrest patients (Sunarin, Mayorga, and Mclay 134). The rural and small
town areas are not able to respond in time do to lack of resources,

Autism is a developmental disability that presents at an early age (typically under the age of three
years) that can affect a child s educational performance. Child and adults can have deficiencies in
communication, social skills, and using language. People with autism tend to engage in motor/vocal
stereotypy. The spectrum for autism has a wide range from mild to severe. To determine where a child
falls on the spectrum many assessments can be administered.
If a child is believed to be on the spectrum, a CARS2 assessment may be issued. The Childhood
Autism Rating Scale (Second Edition) helps distinguish children that have autism from those who are
developmentally handicapped. It also allows you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first two subtest address fifteen items. The Standard and High functioning forms have overlapping
sections. Items addressed in both assessments are relating to people, body use, visual response, taste
smell, and touch response and use, verbal communication, nonverbal communication, level and
consistency of intellectual response and general impressions. Imitation, emotional response, object
use, adaptation to change fear or nervousness, and activity level is focused on solely in the Standard
form subtest. For the High functioning form Social emotional understanding, emotional expression
and regulation of emotions, adaption to change/restricted interest, fear of anxiety, and thinking
cognitive integration skills are the main emphasis.
The administrator will rate each item using a four point response scale. The rating is based on not only
a child s response but also their behavior during their session. An administrated also takes into
consideration student s intensity, peculiarity, and duration of a answer. The CARS2 assessment is a
good place to start when a child is believed to have autism spectrum disorder.
The Verbal Behavior Milestone Assessment and Placement Program (VB MAPP) is a criterion
referenced assessment for child with autism that demonstrates language delays. It analyzes verbal
behavior and developmental milestones. There are five components of the VB MAPP. These
components provide baseline performance, a direction for intervention, a

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Existing laws in the states that permit physician assisted suicide require that patients have a terminal illness (including Alzheimer s, Parkinson s, heart disease, cancer, and many other debilitating diseases). You must be of sound mind (competent to make decisions), and be expected to die within six months of submitting your request. (Soo Borson is a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences and psychosocial and community health nursing at the University of Washington.) C. The specific method in each state varies, but mainly involves a prescription from a licensed physician approved by the state in which the patient is a resident. PAS is very different than euthanasia because it is centralized around choice. In PAS, the patient must self administer the medications; the assisted portion attributes to a physician providing the medications, but the patient decides whether and when to ingest the lethal medication. Euthanasia occurs when a third party administers medication or acts directly to end the patient s life. Euthanasia is illegal in every state, including Washington. (CNN). Two of the costly effects of limiting this option is lack of respect for autonomy and refusing to grant death upon those that wish for it. • 3. “Advertising Advertising A judicious mixture of flattery and threats. Stephen Leacock Considering advertisements as a type of connection used by marketers to make their product known by the public, it is admitted that advertising corporations prey anyone and every age group without any regard to the possible negative effects of their work as long as it pays off. However, when these ads and advertisements target children, they become overwhelming and harmful not only for them and their families, as individuals, but for the society as well. As a consequence of knowing every personal detail of our lives, Marketers learn how to convert them into profit. Convincing us to become their customers is a priority since Selling, buying, and making good deals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Schlosser is not judging the actions of these companies; however, he relies on the usage of logos to prove his point and persuade his audience without actually providing his opinion. The terrifying truth about the negative impact of these ads on children, who are supposed to be attracted by interesting activities that collaborate to their growth and development made the author defending them since it is alarming to realize that, the typical American child now spends about twenty one hours a week watching television roughly one and a half months of TV every year (Schlosser 357). Schlosser gives more details about the bitter reality of the kids of this century who are unfortunately preyed by many advertising corporations and ads companies. In addition to logos, the author appeals to pathos to evoke his audience s emotional feeling as all the facts are about children which works well with his purpose. To convince the audience of how important it is not involving children in marketing, the author uses a vivid description of many situations where kids show the uncooperative effects of these lucrative corporations on them. It is worth to note that, his description makes it easy for the reader to visualize the scenes where children are showing the hidden information absorbed before whether from their casual sitting in front of a TV, reading them online, or just by applying the rules of ... • 4. Zero Tolerance In Schools Sparked by President Bill Clinton s Gun Free Schools Act of 1994, the zero tolerance policy has discouraged and punished students who hinder learning in schools by fighting, using profane words, disobeying rules, and bringing drugs, alcohol, and weapons to school. This policy s goal is to make schools an efficient and safe place to grow and develop cognitively, socially, and emotionally. Without this conduct, not only would some students behave irrationally, they would harm fellow peers and make school a dangerous place to be. It would be difficult for administrators to discern what is right and wrong if they have the opportunity to be biased or lenient. Zero tolerance in schools creates a safe learning environment for students without drugs, alcohol, and weapons present; this policy prepares students for the real world and reduces subjectivity in the administrators. When a parent drops his or her child off at school each day, the parent assumes their child will be kept safe by the administration at the school. It is expected by all parents that staff at schools work hard to keep the learning environment of their student s secure. Lynn nore Chittom and Maureen McMahon argue in Point: Schools Need Tougher Security to Eliminate School Violence, Public schools have the responsibility to keep children safe... they must adopt tougher security measures to combat the problem of school violence. Any negative response to security personnel... needs to change to an acceptance of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Story Of Jack London Jack London is considered one of Americans best writers in time. London is considered a naturalist, which is one of the movements during the time of 1865 1915. A naturalist is where a writer portrays the characters as victims of the environment. One famous short story that Jack London wrote is To Build a Fire . This short story shows the main conflict of nature versus man. It is set in the Yukon Trail during the winter time. London took part in the Klondike Gold Rush which gave him the inspiration to write To Build a Fire . The one major character that the story focuses on is the unnamed man. The unnamed man is a protagonist in the story. The man s character is revealed through his looks, thoughts, and actions. The unnamed man s looks give readers a sense of who the character is. The man is traveling through the Yukon Trial to a campsite in Henderson Creek. It is the season of winter and the way he dresses puts an impact on how well prepared he is for this journey. Winter in the Alaska is quite different then a winter in the south. The temperature that the man is traveling in is negative seventy five degrees Fahrenheit. In To Build a Fire , London states Fifty degrees below zero stood for a bite of frost that hurt and that must be guarded against by the use of mittens, ear flaps, warm moccasins, and thick socks (1813). The man knowing of the basic clothing to have during this journey shows that he knows what type of weather he is about to embark in. However, while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Analysis Of Storm Warnings By Adrienne Rich No storm is experienced the same. Seeing a storm on the horizon has the power to stir up gripping memories, introspective thoughts, and convoluted emotions. The poem Storm Warnings , by Adrienne Rich, applies a predictable structure paired with flowing syntax, and ambiguous diction speaking both of weather and emotions to illustrate that one cannot avoid the tribulations of life, embodied as the approaching storm, but instead prepare for their arrival. Storm Warnings, true to its literal subject matter, possesses flowy sweeping syntax created by the strategic use of commas and phrasing to draw parallels between the physical oncoming winds and the gales of life. The author crafts a long run on sentence that spans the first stanza and carries on into the latter portion of the second to mirror the continuous flowing of windy weather and the forward motion of life. Once the speaker notices the brewing storm, they walk from window to closed window, watching boughs strain against the sky. In this portion of the affromented run on sentence, alliteration, rhythm, and the repetition of words all contribute to the impression of movement. The various w sounds at the beginnings of words and the repetition of the word window create a sensation of continuously flowing forward, especially when read aloud; the comma adds a small swirling pause to the rhythm, which is then soon after resumed with the word watching. Just as the poem rhythmically moves forward with its long phrases connected with frequent commas, so must life carry on with each additional experience, whether it be misfortunes or joys. The elongated syntax allows all these elements to work together within sentences to highlight the similarities between physical storms and emotional struggle and to stress the inevitability of predicaments in life. Despite the flowing syntax, the poem has a clear and predictable structure to replicate the persona s calm familiarity with experiencing and answering to storms in their life. It is interesting to note that even though parlous weather is on its way, there is a lack of panic, chaos, and anomalies in the structure of the poem. There continues to be seven lines in each stanza throughout the piece; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Ethics Of Medical Appointments Today the Army is an organization that closely manages every penny spent to avoid what it considers wasteful spending on inefficient practices. Across the board, within the scope of Army activities exist many practices that are wasteful and take money from other areas of necessity. Medical treatment by way of medical appointments is one such process that has had to undergo a shift in practice as medical appointment failures have risen during intense budget constraints. As an Army major command (MACOM), the medical command has worked to convey that all sites where medical facilities exist are all echoing the same message across the board to change the mentality towards missing appointments. With the MEDCOM looking to adjust it own practices across its own enterprise, the command is also looking to spread the message to supported MACOM with the intent of spreading an understanding that Corps leaders must update policy and implement control measures including strategic messaging that stops wasting over $ 4 million in missed appointments while simultaneously prioritizing mission accomplishment and continuity of care. Residual cost and missed appointments. Service members view medical appointments as an opportunistic benefit for their status with the armed forces. Other inspirations came from art critic John Ruskin s encouragement to go to nature , believing art to be a serious subject that should be treated with maximum realism and truth. The principal philosophies of their movement were primarily religious, but would often draw inspiration from texts and literature, particularly those associated with death and love. In their paintings, the Brotherhood created an entirely new manner of presenting human anatomy by imbuing their depictions of men and women with medieval and spiritual ideas in which they were so captivated. Its original members; John Everett Millais, William Holman Hunt and Dante Gabriel Rosetti s work became heavily influential after great opposition at the beginning, and a second phase of the movement occurred at around 1860 with particular works ¬¬¬¬majorly influencing the succeeding Symbolism movement. After a 1984 exhibition of the Pre Raphaelite s works at the Tate Gallery, a shift in the interpretation of their work took place. • 9. Oppositional Defiant Disorder And Mental Health Services Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) is one of the most common clinical disorders in children and adolescents (Nock, Kazdin, Hirpi Kessler, 2007). Greene et al. (2002) defines ODD as a recurrent pattern of developmentally inappropriate levels of negativistic, defiant, disobedient, and hostile behavior toward authority figures . ODD primarily consists of stubborn (e.g., tantrums) and aggressive behaviors that the child attempts to rationalize based on the circumstances rather than view as consequential and problematic (Kazdin, 2010). Therefore, ODD can have serious implications for the child s functioning at home, in school, and in the community, so parents of children with ODD are more likely to utilize child mental health services (Kazdin, 2010). The history, symptoms, diagnosis, prevalence, age of onset, duration, risk factors, comorbidity, and treatments of ODD will be discussed, as well as the rationale behind the revisions from the fourth (DSM IV) to fifth editions (DSM 5) of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. The ODD diagnosis was introduced by the Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry in 1966 and appeared for the first time as a distinct child/adolescent onset disorder in the third edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM III) in 1980 (Nock et al., 2007). In the 35 years since its induction however, not much more has been learned about the disorder because the majority of studies combine both ODD and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Essay On Athens Vs Sparta Both Athens and Sparta hold great historic value for Greece and the world. Athens, the capital and largest city in Greece was the symbol for freedom, art, and democracy. The city took its name from the goddess Athena, the goddess of wisdom and knowledge. Sparta, a town near Evrotas River, was the center of the Peloponnese in southern Greece. This Dorian Greek military state city was the protector of Greece as it provided a large army for many years. Both societies were very different in many aspects. Sparta was content with itself and provided its army when required. Athens on the other hand wanted to take control of more and more land in Greece. They could not defeat Sparta s army, however they had built a powerful navy which protected Greece from the Persian threat during Xerxess invasion of Greece. Sparta was an Oligarchy meaning it was ruled by few. It had five Ephors who were elected annually along with a gerousia , similar to a senate to rule along with their two kings. ... It is clear that the Athenians had more freedom to do leisure items. When the British cracked down on Indian civil liberties after World War I, Gandhi began to organize nonviolent protests. He enforced the ideas of nonviolence, passive resistance, and civil disobedience by meeting with politicians, fasting, and launching campaigns to protest in order to regain rightful ownership of Indian self government. He was very successful in using passive resistance and teaching by example. By Gandhi doing all of this, there was a positive outcome after all the hard work he and Indian people did. The outcome was that Britain s Parliament passed on July 1947 the Indian Independence Act. Mohandas was the youngest member out of his siblings. His father was a knowledgeable administrator, and very skillful at intervening between British officials and the local civilians. His mother was an [extremely sincere believer] of Vaishnavism, the worship of Vishnu, and she devoted herself to fasting and prayer. She taught Mohandas values such as tolerance and ahimsa, or non injury to living beings (Szczepanksi 1). In 1883, the Gandhi s arranged a marriage between 13 year old Mohandas and a 14 year old girl named Kasturba Makhanji. Located in Greece, Athens has been able to convert to the modern ways of the world while maintaining its ancient atmosphere. Athens is assumed to have begun as a small Neolithic hill fort on top of Acropolis sometime in the third millennium BC, and the city today has come a long way by building a very successful society with over five million residents. In the beginning, the geographic location and climate played a role in why people chose to live here, but today people travel from all over the world to witness the rich history of the city for themselves. Athens attacked Sicily, but with the help of the Spartans, the Sicily city of Syracuse broke the blockade the Athenians had set up. The Spartans defeated the Athenian army and then destroyed them once they tried to retreat. Athens was now stuck in a political turmoil, and their democracy was overthrown by the oligarchical party. Due to several military victories, the Athenian navy found confidence in themselves and decided to begin working on restoring the democracy. Sparta offered to come to a peace agreement with Athens, but Athenian democratic leaders declined which lead to the war at sea to continue. In 404 BC the war finally ended with the Athenians surrendering and Sparta stripping them of their empire. Fortunately, Sparta did not destroy the city itself. Athens capitulated and their defeat resulted as the worst war so far in history, hurting Greece s military strength. Thucydides who was an Athenian general during the war stated that the cause behind the war was human greed and desire for power, and he viewed the war as a complete disaster. Many people probably wonder how it was possible for Athens to still be a powerful city after all the devastation the city went through. Fortunately, all the events leading up to the loss to Sparta helped keep Athens history alive and the achievements of Athens in philosophy, drama, and art continued even after the city s success faded. • 14. The Importance Of Social Constructionism On Sexuality Social construction has been an extremely influential and hot debating topic in the past century. It is a term where everyone almost has heard but quite a few actually understand. The social constructionist perspective on sexuality, on the other hand, began to rise during the sexual revolution of the 1960s. Every social constructionist has their own approach to sexuality. Thinkers such as Gary Kinsman, Fausto Sterling both discussed their approach towards social constructionism on sexuality. (Missing out thesis statement, not sure how to write it) Social Constructionism is the belief that society agrees upon definitions of categories, and how we are taught to fit into these categories. It is referring to the way we create meaning through social interaction with others. Also, it is the view of thought looks at our life and reality tries to see what is truly exist, and what is only exist because we say it is. For instance, money is just tinted papers and metals that have no value other than we have assigned them. They only exist because when we give them a reality and value through social agreement so therefore we can use them to purchase goods with. Besides, there are many things in our life that we experience only exist because we have created them. Often, this type of relationship results from a weak or poor connection within a family. Dysfunctional family relationships can become negative in the sense that they generate impractical feelings toward one another, and create secrets and lies. Critically acclaimed author, Khaled Hosseini explores the theme of dysfunctional family relationships in his novel, The Kite Runner, through the father to son relationship of the protagonist, Amir, and his father who lacks interest and separates himself from his son. Distress Thermometer Distress is an unpleasant emotional experience of a psychological, social and/or spiritual nature that might interfere with the ability to cope effectively with cancer, its physical symptoms and the treatment that occurs, before, during and/or after the diagnosis (NCCN, 2003). In the Psychosocial aspect of cancer patients and their diagnosis, the distress thermometer is a tool that can help both the patients and staff in beginning a conversation with each other about difficulty going on before or after a cancer diagnosis. People who are at a higher risk of heightened distress, are people with subordinate cancer diagnosis, in reoccurring cancer patients, in younger patients, and in married people. The most direct way that metals contributed to environmental degradation was the issue of mining s impact on the natural environment. Each filtration system is equipped with a 10 micron filter and two 4 micron filters set in a parallel configuration. The oil then passes through the 10 micron filter which will remove all particles of 10 microns in size or greater. The oil then enters a flow divider valve which properly diverts the oil to two separate 4 micron filters for further oil cleansing. Likewise, the 4 micron filters will remove all particles of 4 microns or greater. From here, the oil flows through a check ball valve to ensure no backflow into the filters. This is necessary due to the merging of the two parallel 4 micron filters. After leaving the first filter configuration the oil is then directed towards the cooling system. • 35. Character Analysis Of The Pit And The Pendulum The Pit and the Pendulum Character Analysis Essay Edgar Allen Poe s The Pit and the Pendulum uses horror and suspicion to build up not only the storyline, but the persona of the narrator in which is also the prisoner. The characteristics of the prisoner ties within the story to create trippy feelings of fear and unassertiveness of whether or not he is truly safe. From the trials that the prisoner has faced, his characteristic of resourcefulness, pessimistic, and terror are revealed and play a salient part of his slick escape. The prisoner exemplifies resourcefulness which is shown through his actions of survival. Despite his unstableness, he still manages to remain clever in such a frightening situation. Poe asserts that the prisoner is resourceful considering he uses the hem of his robe to plot out his area: I tore a part of the hem from the robe, and placed the fragment at full length, and at right angles to the wall. In groping my way around the prison, I could not fail to encounter this rag upon completing the circuit. (Poe 3). Being that he uses his resources to find his way around the tomb, he learns that he is among a treacherous pit which could mean death. This action alters the whole course of the story due to the possibility of the prisoner falling into the pit. The prisoner continues to show signs of resourcefulness in the toughest situations: Observing that I remained without motion, one or two of the boldest leaped upon the frame work and smelt at the surcingle. This seemed the signal for a general rush. Forth from the well they hurried in fresh troops. They clung to the wood, they overran it, and leaped in hundreds upon my person. (Poe 8). Using the rats as a pathway to his freedom from the pendulum, his quick thinking saved his life. With that being said, the prisoner uses his traits of resourcefulness to escape without letting fear block his tactics. Poe reveals the prisoners aspect of showing pessimistic traits through his thoughts of seeing the worst outcome of events. The prisoner states, It was not that I feared to look upon things horrible, but that I grew aghast lest there should be NOTHING to see. At length, with a wild desperation at heart, I quickly unclosed my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Early Development Of Human Consciousness The early development of human consciousness seems to have given humans a genetic predisposition to the belief in religion. During this early development many chemicals known as entheogens were used during religious sacraments and ceremonies, especially during times when religion was undergoing critical stages of development. Once early humans could communicate concepts effectively they utilized experiences derived from such substances in the integration of theological belief systems. Describing psychoactive substances without using a word that has a negative connotation attached to it can be difficult. In an effort to combat this problem, a committee under the chairmanship of Carl Ruck described after trying out a number of words he came up with entheogen, god generated within , which his committee unanimously adopted (Wasson 30). Psychoactive substances, or entheogens, have been researched for years by scientists, however, research into their historical significance is severely limited. The origin of religion cannot simply be looked at through the perspective of entheogens, there are many factors associated with it which spread multiple fields. Science, sociology, history, archeology, psychology, chemistry and botany all cross over when researching this subject. James McClenon has argued that the conceptions of religion have their origins in the evolution of psychophysiological structures associated with hypnotizability. If one is susceptible to a hypnotic trance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Body of essay The effect the 1982 Falklands War had on Margaret Thatcher s political career, in particular the election in 1983 During the 1970s and 1980s, Britain was going through a difficult time and the Government was facing many problems; a lack of free markets, the public s lack of support and a failing economy. People were unhappy and unsatisfied and for many people living in Britain, Margaret Thatcher was the reason why. Margaret Thatcher became the first female Prime Minister in 1979 when the Conservatives won the general election. However; Thatcher was not the most popular politician of her time. Thatcher s comment shows how the Falkland s War not only helped Margaret Thatcher herself but it helped Britain too by giving the country a sense of hope and pride. By 1892 Thatcher had no choice but to use military force, although she worked closely with the United States at trying to achieve a diplomatic solution, as suggested (Biography, 1991). But when diplomacy failed, she dispatched a military task force that accomplished her goal. (Margaret Thatcher s Legacy Partly Hinged on Falklands Islands War, 2013).Military action was instantly successful and the Falkland Islands were back under British control by June 1982. Thatcher had taken a great risk and did what not many leaders of that time were willing to do (Biography, 2014). As (Burns, 2012) states, the war was vital to Thatcher s mission for her country and it gave her domestic programme and added zeal . There isn t one person responsible for the ADA but rather thousands of Americans who have fought for the rights of people with disabilities and constantly worked to make their lives easier. People with disabilities for a long time were thought of as outsiders in society and were shunned by the majority. This was the first ruling that eventually lead to the ADAAmendments Act of 2008 which was passed in response to the number of decisions by the Supreme Court that had interpreted the original text of the ADA (Brief History of Civil Rights, 2017). The ADAAA was signed into law in September of 2008 by President George W. One of the things that the ADAAA required was that courts interpreting the ADA and other federal disability laws focus on whether the covered entity had discriminated, rather than whether the individual seeking the law s protection had an impairment that fit within the technical definition of the term disability (Brief History of Civil Rights, 2017). The ADAAA took effect in 2009 and had multiple regulations updated over the next couple years. • 44. Active Tips For Active Tags Active tags Active tags require the most power because they can initiate communication to other tags or a reader device. They have a greater range of operation and have been applied to asset control and tracking livestock because of the greater range active tags allow (Weis, 2007, p. 10). Therefore, active tags require more maintenance, but they can broaden the scope in how RFID systems can be used. Some active tags can be equipped with an acceleration sensor that can determine when the tag begins accelerating and then transmit a signal to the reader. One example that this can be useful for is in shipping container transportation. Shipping containers can be lost at sea after falling off a ship and traditional RF technology may not be able to detect it in time. However, active tag RFID systems with an acceleration sensor can notify the system when the container begins falling, making it possible to recover (Weis, 2007, p. 10). My hometown is mostly farmland, with a population of seven hundred and fifty people, the farmland covers twenty five to thirty miles in each direction. This may not sound like much land to cover, but when it comes to saving lives, time is of the essence.
