Testaments Betrayed Analysis
While humans often live life in a duality, with a face they put on for the public and the true character
they show with friends, the private life may easily seep into the public eye. In his piece Testaments
Betrayed, Czech writer Milan Kundera asserts that the curtain between public and private lives is not
to be removed, and those who do so are deplorable voyeurs. Although it is immoral for one to reveal
another s private life, the barrier between public and private lives must be torn down when the public
benefits, whether by the intruder or the individual in question himself. For those declaring the need for
a societal shift in paradigm, leaders of a movement often need to intertwine their personal stories to
demonstrate the necessity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An individual s rights are secondary to those of society, which seeks to benefit and advance more. Eric
Garner was fatally choked by NYC police in 2015, prompting the rise of the Black Lives Matter
movement. His last words, I can t breathe, were captured on video and shared millions of times while
he was fading in and out of consciousness. While the bystander capturing the video may have intruded
into his privacy, that moment was a necessary mingling of public and private because it personified
the outrage present in society. In doing so, the bystanders demonstrated to a broad audience the
injustice present in society. The dual nature of an individual s public and private personas also exactly
demonstrates the necessity in breaching personal privacy, for individuals may have a different
personal agenda than the public façade they create. Many colleges now review a student s social
media profiles as a part of the holistic admissions process in order to verify the authenticity of a
student s supposed character. I personally had a friend who was a Big 10 bound athlete have his
contracts revoked because of his braggadocios nature on social media, often proclaiming how he had
received contracts from schools that, in reality, had not extended one. While supposedly a breach in
privacy of the prospective athlete, this step is necessary in the admissions process to ensure that the
team and college in general has a reputable student body. Thus, the curtain of privacy must be torn
away in situations where the public stands to gain knowledge to make informed

Comparison Of Gnosticism In The Truman Show And The Da...
In modern day society, there are several ways in which the belief of Gnosticism is gradually being
circulated throughout our culture. One popular way that Gnostic concepts are being easily dispersed is
through the film industry. In widespread movies such as The Matrix, The Truman Show and The Da
Vinci Code, the presence of underlying Gnostic themes is undeniable. While each of these movies do
not encompass Gnosticism as a whole, there are certain Gnostic themes that are strongly represented
within each of the movies. For example, in The Da Vinci Code there is a huge focus on the existence
of a divine feminine principle just as the Gnostics believe in their religion. This example shown here
is the Gnostic theme that will be focused on the most throughout this essay. By comparing the divine
feminine principle within Gnostic texts with the feminine principle in the film The Da Vinci Code, I
will demonstrate the ways that the feminine principle in The Da Vinci Code relates with the one from
Gnosticism. However, these divine females must first be described ... Show more content on

After being denied the assistance of becoming impregnated by the First Principle, Sophia decided that
she would create offspring on her own. Her plan backfires on her and her offspring ends up stealing
her light and creating the material world that we humans reside in today. This creator of the material
world is known as Ialtabaoth (Layton, Page 36). Now Sophia s central purpose is to descend down to
the material world that her damaged offspring created and remind the people of this world that the
spiritual world is our real home. This process is what the Gnostics call enlightenment and this is the
only way to achieve true acquaintance with the spiritual realm. Sophia is the savior who bridges the
gap between the human ignorance and the Gnostic truth. She is the only hope for revealing the
supposed spiritual

The Importance Of Race In The Film Slumdog Millionaire
If you can do nothing else, do whatever is in your power to make the people in your life feel
completely unashamed of who they are (Killermann). As times change and our society continues to
evolve, the importance of human rights and acceptance are constantly emphasized. Through the
movie, Slumdog Millionaire directed by Danny Boyle I learned about discrimination relating to social
class. Additionally, in the song, Small Town Boy by Bronski Beat, I learned about how gay individuals
may be judged by society. Through further analyzing and exploring these texts, I could seek real life
examples of how human rights can be violated. These texts prove that we must move away from the
deep rooted issue of discrimination and learn to accept, love, and celebrate our differences not only as
individuals but as a society.
In Danny Boyle s movie, Slumdog Millionaire , the use of pathos allows readers to understand how
discrimination relating to social class is a real issue. The movie follows the life of a Muslim boy
named Jamal, living in a Hindu environment. Jamal decides to participate in an Indian game show and
has made it to the final round that could win himself one million dollars. As the audience settles down
and the question is announced, the game show host turns to Jamal and says, Do the right thing in
approximately three minutes and you will be as famous as me. And as rich as me. Almost (Boyle).

the world and can be enjoyed by all types of people; however, they are targeting their advertisements
to rapidly growing target markets. According to Market Realist, Coca Cola spent $3.3 billion on
advertisements in 2013 and these are geared toward Hispanics, Millennials, and Teens, because these
groups hold significant buying power. There are many players in the industry that are necessary for
getting the end products to restaurants, retailers, and customers. The value chain for Coca Cola starts
with the syrup producer and then moves to the bottler, distributor, merchant, and finishes with the final
customer (Market Realist). Alternate Industry Definition Coca Cola s industry is defined as consumer
goods, and then more specifically non alcoholic beverages. One could categorize Coca Cola as a CPG

The Recidivism Area On Juvenile Delinquency
In order to conduct research in the recidivism area, the use of secondary data will be used as an
appropriate method for analysis. This analysis consists of measuring traditional penal sanctions such
as incarceration versus alternative ways such as a rehabilitation treatment to deal with juvenile
delinquency and investigate how it affects recidivism rates. The primary attention for this research
proposal purpose is to rely only on juvenile delinquency data as the necessary specific information is
not available for the adult population. Certainly, limitations exist as data is not collected by the author
of this research proposal. However, due to limited resources this proposal utilizes quantitative
methods based on secondary data regardless ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although, there are some disadvantages about using secondary data. For example, if the expert
collecting the information had other purposes in mind or if the data is interpreted in a different way
could affect the validity of the research analysis. Also, the person or people collecting this data may
only capture the information needed to prove their point or even manipulate the statistics.
Nonetheless, a secondary data analysis is a suitable option because of the reasons previously
mentioned, albeit probable disadvantages exist. The secondary data used for this research has been
published on the Kids Count data center which is part of the Project of the Annie E. Casey Foundation
website ( Annie E. Casey Foundation, 2015). This organization s main goal is an attempt to develop a
better future for many children at risk due to low economic status, limited educational opportunities

Iran And The Iranian Nuclear Program
Iran is currently a burning issue due to its nuclear program and the dialogue between the USA and Iran
has seemed very complicated since years. Western countries have feared that Iran wants to acquire the
atomic bomb since they have discovered its nuclear program in 2003. From that moment Iran has been
considered as a real threat by the USA. But in fact the relations between these two countries have
begun about 150 years ago and have not always been tense. The first relations were also cordial and
useful for both parties. Iran used the US help to develop its education and industry, notably its oil
industry, and the USA found an ally in the Middle East.
So why Iran came to be perceived as a threat to the US and is it still a threat?
Firstly we will focus on the beginning of the relations between the two countries. Then we will see
how the Islamic revolution in 1979 radically changed the relationships. We will also examine the
current issue of the Iranian nuclear program. Finally we will try to understand the foreign policy and
the intentions of Tehran.
1. Iran and the Cold War 1950s
The first official relations between the USA and Iran began in 1856 when the Shah of Persia
Nasreddine sent an ambassador to Washington. Until the Second World War these relations were
cordial. Actually the support of the USA served as a buffer against the pressure of the British and
Russian Empire on Iran. But the implication of the USA in Iran was still limited. This situation

The Importance Of Technology In Modern Society
In our present world, we are faced with the double edged sword of having instantaneous access to all
information at our fingertips. However, it seems as though this easy access to information comes at the
cost of the morality of the community. This ethical degradation of modern society is permeated
through our overindulgence with technology, the manner in which we treat others, and mainstream
music.
A way in which the demoralization of society is shown through our overindulgence with technology.
Through the significant development of technology in this era, we have grown a high level of
dependence on our devices. This dependency on technology has greatly altered the way in which we
think and interact with one another. An example of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately, the reliance on technology only leads to the detachment of people from those around them
leaving everyone in isolation.
Furthermore, the manner in which people are treated is a crucial sign of the immorality of our current
world. People have begun to lose respect for each other, especially over the Internet. This disregard for
others stems from the anonymity on the Internet which gives people the liberty to say whatever cruel
thing is on their mind because of their shield that is their computer screen. The ability to hide behind
one s keyboard is such a major contributor to cyberbullying as people don t get to physically see the
impacts of their words. If a person says awful things to a stranger on the Internet, they will likely
never meet the person to know how their comment made them feel. Through the rise of social media,
the current generation has lost the empathy that would make them wary of what they do or say to
avoid inflicting pain on others. A situation that can come out of this lack of concern for others is one
like Amanda Todd, a young girl who committed suicide as a result of the hurtful things said to her by
her peers over social media. Occurrences like these should serve as reminders to us all that despite the
conversation happening between screens, there is a person, a human, with value and worth behind that
screen reading your message.

Reaction Paper Of El Presidente
El Presidente is a biopic film directed and written by Mark Meily. The film follows the life of the
Philippines first president, General Emilio Aguinaldo. It is based on the book written by Emilio
Aguinaldo, Memoirs of a Revolution. The movie starts in 1901 with Agunaldo s capture by
Kapampangan US forces under Fuston s command. Then, it flashes back to Aguinaldo s younger
years. The flashback shows Aguinaldo collecting tax along with his friend Candido Tirona; the two
meets an old woman who gave them perplexing prophecies. The old woman said that Aguinaldo will

The set, costume, and props were visually pleasing and apt for the historical mood of the movie. Also,
familiar faces were seen some of them are; ER Estregan, with the main role; Christopher de Leon,
Cesar Montano, and Nora Aunor. Despite the massive effort used to present this period film, somehow
it failed to deliver a message to the viewers. El Presidente centers on controversial figure in the
Philippine history, Emilio Aguinaldo. There are two different sentiments of the Filipinos when he is
the topic of discussion. He is either seen as a hero or an indecisive person, also known as a balimbing.
The storytelling was not tight; it lingered too long on scenes that are not that essential example are the
battle scenes. With their two hours running time, they could have had added more relevant historical
events. The narrative could have been effective if the story gave more depth to the character, rather
than the almost paralyzed expression of the actor. Speaking of the actor, I believe that ER Estregan
failed to effectively portray the character. Aside from the age discrepancy wherein they could have had
a younger actor for the role, his acting was repetitive, and boring at times. Could it have been that the
production was enticed in getting actors with big names rather than judging by their acting

Poetic Analysis Of The Song Graceland By Paul Simon
Poetic Analysis of Paul Simon s Graceland In the realm of music, words and melodies work together
in order to form a complete idea of an artist s work. However, by abandoning the melodies and
reading closely into the lyrics of a song, readers are able to draw meaning and make observations from
the text that could be overshadowed by its melodies. A fine example of a song where this method is
applicable is Paul Simon s Graceland. Examining the lyrics reveals the story of a man making a
pilgrimage to Elvis Presley s Graceland estate in Memphis, Tennessee in the same way a religious
person would journey to a holy site. Through usage of imagery, tone, and metaphorical devices
throughout allow this song to function as a comically surreal poem. ... Show more content on

Graceland! Memphis, Tennessee! Graceland is described as a place welcoming of people from
different walks of life, indicated by, Poorboys and Pilgrims with families / And we are going to
Graceland, (10 11). Here, the comically surreal notion of Graceland as a holy site is introduced with
tourists making pilgrimages to the estate with their families, with the hopes that they will take
something morally significant away from their journey. The narrator then reveals that, as a pilgrim to
Graceland, he too has a family he brings with him, My travelling companion is nine years old / He is
the child of my first marriage, (12 13). The diction here is indicative that the narrator is no longer in a
relationship with the child s mother, leaning towards the possibility that the narrator hopes to rekindle
a relationship with the child through their pilgrimage to Graceland, or that he is raising the child on his
own and sharing a road trip with him. He then says, But I ve reason to believe / We both will be
received / In Graceland, creating a hopeful tone sonically through the rhymes of believe and receive ,
which is contradicted by the ambiguous diction which alludes to the possibility that they could not be
received in Graceland

under one of the four functions; sensing, intuition, thinking, or feeling and are combined with one of
two attitudes; extraversion and introversion ( Carl Jung n.d.). The MBTI has 16 personality types that

Nuclear Consequences Of Nuclear War
With keeping the above description of nuclear effects in mind, one can see the driving force behind
the concept known as mutually assured destruction, or MAD. As a doctrine, the concept of MAD
revolves around the notion that nuclear exchange, in a world with second strike capability, means that
neither side could emerge the victor; only that each sides would be destroyed by the other. With MAD,
no side has anything to gain by attacking the other as it would likely result in an un survivable
counterattack; concurrently, no side can eliminate its nuclear weapons because it could then be
overpowered by the other. Simply put, if there is no expectation of survival by counterattack, there is
no reason strike period. Over the years, this balance and stability has been challenged by
developments that skew the possibility of post nuclear war survival. Ballistic missile defense or even
conventional weapons that can achieve strategic effects break down the foundation of MAD by
reducing successful strike possibilities; if one side can shoot down some of the other side s missiles
before they become a threat, then the chances are in favor of the side with that capability. (Bradley,
2015) Further, the concept of MAD seemed to lose the potency of truth recently. As the United States
has reduced focus on its nuclear weapons programs since the Cold War ended, other states have
increased the focus on theirs. The Russian Federation, as well as the rest of the world, has born
witness to the

Racism In The Film Remember The Titans
There are many people in our world today, that believe racism is a problem of the past, that
segregation and inequality are expressions that are not relevant today. The cold heart felt reality of this
statement is that racism, is even more alive in our world today, than ever before. Circumstances such
as, Caucasians being paid more than African Americans for the same job and Caucasian police officers
gunning down innocent African Americans and being acquitted for it, are just some examples of the
racial tensions in our society today. The people that believe racism is no longer a problem in this
world, are simply ignoring the recent and past tragedies of African Americans. The inequalities this
minority group has endured, has caught the attention of certain groups of people, that are trying to
bring change, by taking a stand for a solution. In this challenge, the media has been very effective, in
not only bringing the problems to the surface but also in seeking to effect resolutions. Throughout our
countries past, the media, and even more specifically, movies, have been a powerful tool in bringing
light of many types of injustices brought onto minority groups. A prime example of a movie that
presents some of these issues is Remember the Titans . Throughout this essay, I will be analyzing this
film, identifying some of the aspects of the film s form, content and symbolism, regarding the impact
on American culture, that can be seen within it.

The Iran Hostage Crisis changed the political connections between the United States and Iran for
several years to come. The Iran Hostage Crisis became a symbol of America s global power and
influence On November 4, 1979, Iranian students stormed the US embassy in Tehran, Iran, and took
sixty three Americans hostage. The students agreed that the hostages would not be released until the
Shah returned to Iran to stand trial for the crimes committed against the Iranian people. (Bechtel).
Despite the Shah s treatment of the Iranian people, the President Carted allowed the Shah into the
United States to receive medical treatment. Although President Carter made attempts to negotiate the
hostages released, he failed several times. Because of his failures he was viewed inept and ineffective
in regards to the crisis. The hostages were released on January 20, 1981, the day that President Ronald
Reagan was sworn into office. This paper will discuss the main reason why the hostages were taken,
and why they were not released sooner.
Back in 1950, when Mossadegh was Prime Minister of Iran, he nationalized Iran s oil industry,
reducing the European influence throughout the nation over the oil commodity. This sparked great fear
throughout the United States; they feared the communists would turn the Iran democracy against
them. After three years in exile, in 1953 Shah Mohammed

Sociological Imagination Definition
The definition of Sociological Imagination by C. Wright Mills according to the class notes is to think
ourselves away from the familiar routines of our daily lives to look at them anew. This concept allows
us to see connections between individual concerns and larger social issues . Sociological imagination
is our ability to look on our own situations and circumstances in different ways or angles and trying to
see if there s any connection between our personal struggles and the issues of the society. The impact
of the issue is based on biography, history and social structure.
One example of using sociological imagination is going to college. Personally, obtaining an education
is such a very important thing for me. Just like my parents said when I was young, obtaining an
education or a college degree is a personal wealth that no one can take away from you. My family
values education and most of them have college degrees. For me, going to college is a step for me to
accomplish my dreams and aspirations in life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have struggled with being over weight for a few years now and until now it is still a struggle.
According to my BMI, I am considered obese. Obesity is a big social issue and society may think of
obese people differently. People may assume that obesity stemmed out from not exercising and over
eating and being thin or sexy is the norm. A few years ago, I was diagnosed with Bell s palsy and was
put on steroid drugs. One of the side effects of steroid drugs is weight gain. My weight gain started
because of the steroid drugs that I took. I was also put on birth control pills due to my irregular menses
and I noticed a big change in my food intake. I was craving for food like crazy. My exercise routine
declined due to my busy work and school schedules. It is still a current struggle for me now, but I am
changing my eating habits and food intake and hope to be active in playing sports

Silence In A Room Of One s Own And Aurora Leigh
Silence In Virginia Woolf s A Room of One s Own and Elizabeth Barrett Browning s Aurora Leigh,
women stay silent as men flourish in achieving their greatest potential. In her academic journal,
Sexology and A Room of One s Own, Patricia Moran believes that, A Room of One s Own is arguably
the most influential essay of feminist literary criticism (Moran 477). Females, as noted in these two
works, remain limited to the works of their home and unexposed to the first class world of literature.
They are required to dedicate their work and effort to a dominant male figure in their lives. Both
Woolf and Browning argue that women live silently and restricted to the authority of their husband,
parents, or a close relative. Despite the different time and literary periods of Aurora Leigh and A
Room of One s Own, Browning and Woolf portray their female characters as stuck in their sense of
identity. These women are regulated to the family society, discouraged from having a role in the
literary realm, and expected to appear complacent to their male figures. Due to the lack of education
and tactics needed to succeed monetarily, women become confined to the close proximity of their
children, spouse, and related social circle. At the beginning of Aurora Leigh, Aurora s description of
her aunt gives readers an understanding of the type of women she is in society She stood straight and
calm, Her somewhat narrow forehead braided tight As if for taming accidental thoughts From possible
pulses; brown hair pricked with gray By frigid use of life (272 276).
Aurora s detailed descriptions of her aunt reveals the admiration that society has for women of
comparable character. Aurora s never ending analysis of the aunt s personality and identity allude to
the idea that Elizabeth Barrett Browning pities women that limit their role in society to that of the
aunt. Likewise, Woolf uses a fictional example of William Shakespeare s sister to expose the
expectations that a woman would have in Shakespeare s day. Judith, as adventurous, as imaginative, as
agog to see the world as he [Shakespeare] was, would be required to fulfill the duty of a woman, thus
preventing her sharp mind to wander outside of her domestic roles.

Analysis Of The Film Six Degrees Of Separation
In most films, the director choses a specific setting to help contextualize the time and place that the
film is taking place. In some films, however, the director purposely chooses background elements that
are significant to the plot as they convey tone, emotion, and ideas. In the films Six Degrees of
Separation (1933), Devil in a Blue Dress (1955), and The Human Stain (2003), the director of each
films chooses to incorporate historical subplots into the background of each film. The historical
subplots serve as extensions of the certain characters, helping to emphasize their inherent Otherness.
In Six Degrees of Separation, the director Fred Schepisi alludes to Sidney Poitier and a double sided
Kandinsky throughout the film to separate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paul`s life is in chaos as he is attempting to uproot his entire life by creating a façade to appeal to the
white upper class. It is this façade, however, that gives Paul control in his life as he is finally able to
belong to a family with the Kittredges. This imbalance in Paul`s life causes him to be an Other
because he has changed his entire life to simply swindle wealthy whites. In Devil in a Blue Dress,
director Carl Franklin incorporates references to Delilah from The Imitation of Life (1934), the Black
Dahlia, and Oscar Micheaux`s The Betrayal (1948) to suggest that Daphne Monet will always be
marked with blackness, despite passing for a white. After getting his assignment to find Todd Carter`s
missing fiancé, Ezekiel Rawlins begins his search at a black juke joint where the Daphne is known to
frequent. At the club, the notion of recognition and misrecognition is employed as Ezekiel asks around
for a white girl. Additionally, he begins to misname Daphne by referring to her as Delilah and Dahlia.
The reference is an allusion to the 1934 film Imitation of Life. In the film, Delilah is a black
homemaker living in a subordinate role to her white friend Beatrice. Despite this subjugation, Delilah
is proud of her race. The comparison between Delilah and Daphne not only foreshadows Daphne`s
unsuccessful passing but also her inability to belong in a white relationship. The name Dahlia relates
to the Black Dahlia murder in 1947. This

The defendant believed that the $100 deposit, together with his initial $28.45 payment, would secure
for him the $106.00 per week rental rate in lieu of the higher daily rate. When the defendant was
arrested after a report stated that his vehicle was stolen. The officers returned to his room to get his
companion out of the room. Additionally, a complete search of the room was ordered without a
warrant. Inside a closed dresser drawer the officers found a cloth bag secured at the top with a draw
string. They opened the closed bag and found over two ounces of cocaine. As a result, the court found
that the above factors constituted the defendant s had a reasonable expectation of privacy in the motel
room for three reasons. First, a few days earlier, when the defendant had stayed past check out time,
instead of evicting him the hotel permitted him to extend his stay and pay for the additional term of
occupancy. Second, the manager testified that it was the motel s policy to ask those guests staying past
checkout time whether they would be leaving or extending their stay. It was not the motel s policy to
evict guests who were staying past checkout time for brief periods. Third, the defendant had given the
hotel a large cash deposit, which may have led him to believe that he was paid up through the rest of
the week. In

Appreciating the Little Things in Thorton Wilder´s Our Town
Have you ever thought that even the littlest things in life can make the biggest difference? One of the
themes of Thornton Wilder s play Our Town is people never fully appreciate the wonders of daily life.
People take everything for granted and don t really realize how the little things in life actually make a
huge impact on your life. Wilder shows examples of the little things in life many times in each of the
acts throughout the play. Our Town is about a young couple who falls in love and ends up spending
their life together. The young couple overlooks the small but important things in life. Throughout Our
Town, Wilder informs us about how all people don t appreciate the little things in life that actually
make a huge difference. In Act I of Our Town, Wilder talks about the daily life of the people who live
in Grover s Corners. The people of Grover s Corners just live their lives like a cycle. They do their
daily routines and don t really pay attention to who is going on around them. At the time of doing their
routines they don t notice how some of the little things make a big difference and don t appreciate
what is going on around them. In the play Our Town, George and Rebecca are talking to each other
while looking out at the stars in the night sky. Rebecca was telling George about the letter Jane Crofut
received and how the envelope was addressed. It said Jane Crofut, The Crofut Farm, Grover s Corners,
Sutton County, New Hampshire, United States of

Harley Davidson Essay
Harley Davidson has become a household name in the United States and is a brand that has acquired
an almost mystical power (Austin, Sole, Cotteleer, 2). The Harley Davidson motorcycle business has
been around for 95 years and to this day, people will still wait up to two years for their turn at
receiving their own Harley. The demographic of Harley Davidson customers ranges from riders in
their forties with grown child no longer at home to young, reckless and born to be wild (Austin, Sole,
Cotteleer, 2). The Harley Davidson Motor Company was formed in 1903 by William Harley and
Arthur Davidson when they began experimenting on taking the work out of bicycling (Austin, Sole,
Cotteleer, 1). In 1920, the company became the largest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During 2009, Harley Davidson generated more than half of its revenue (67.9%) from the United
States. (The remainder revenue was from Europe (16.3%), Japan (6%), Canada (4.1%), Australia
(3.2%), and rest of the world (2.5%). The high dependence on the U.S. market has proven to be a great
weakness (since 2008) for Harley Davidson due to the poor economic condition of the US
(GlobalData). Another problem Harley Davidson has recently developed is a declining market. For
many years, Harley Davidson s target market was the baby boomers. Harley s core customer is a
middle aged white American male, a group that will contract in the coming decade. As one blogger
wrote, The 60 70 year old riders have trouble lifting a leg over the seat because of arthritis. And finger
joints hurt with the cold air and engine vibration. Women represent just 11% of Harley buyers, and
penetration in the African American and Hispanic markets is similarly limited (Taylor, Alex). (Will Go
more into detail...)
Opportunities:
Harley Davidson currently possesses the largest motorcycle market in the world
(fundinguniverse.com, 1). This is also due in part to the European market which has the highest
demand for the bikes. Internationally, the heavyweight market has grown larger than that in the United
States and has had an increasing market share in Asia as well for the past few years. Another

Personal Narrative Of My Life
Personal Narrative One day in mid November, I thought that one of the worst days in my life had
come. I walked into my parent s room, and I found my mother rushing to gather things to go
somewhere. Curiously, I asked my mom where she was going, and why she was in such a rush. My
mom said, Julia was in a bad car accident on the way home from school and is headed to the hospital.
I m going up there to see if there is anything I can do to help. Immediately many questions came to
my mind, but I knew that it would be best to not ask until she was sure of the answers and had more
information. Julia was family to me, but not my blood. I have known her since I was born, and she has
always been around since. Her Aunt is my mother s best friend as well as my Godmother. She has
known Julia s family for over 30 years. I wasn t as close to Julia as I would ve liked to be, but I still
knew her very well. She was only 17 years old and it was her Senior year in high school. Since my
mom is a Pediatric nurse at Baptist, it was no surprise to me that my mom was going there to help. I
told her to update me as soon as she found out anything. After my mom left to go to the hospital, I sat
on the couch anxiously waiting for any information from her. Eventually my mom texted me saying
that she was in critical condition and in a coma. She also said that she had to be on a ventilator and
wasn t responding to anything. With that information, I knew that this was something very serious and

What Is Thomas Jefferson s Role In Drafting The Constitution
Thomas Jefferson is considered one of the most important people in United States History. He was the
third president, and he even drafted the Declaration of Independence. Many think he also had a
significant role in drafting the U.S. Constitution as well. This just happens to be incorrect. Jefferson
was away in France during the summer of 1787 when this important document was being drafted. He,
however, was still slightly involved, but he put the majority of his efforts in the foreign affairs that
were going on at the time. Because of his efforts overseas to the United States and the other Ministers,
Jefferson had little to do with the Constitution but to give his position on the matter.
Serving the United States

the Minister to France. That today is equivalent to an ambassador. There ... Show more content on

One would think that he was in full support of the new Constitution, but that was not the case.
Jefferson was sure that the federal Constitution was not close to the excellence it needed to be. He was
sure to make this view and others clear on the matter in the letters that he sent to the members of the
convention over the time span that the Constitution was being drafted. ( One of the most intriguing
might have beens in American History , 2016) Jefferson says in a letter to William S. Smith that there
are some good and some bad articles within the content of the Constitution draft (Jefferson to William
Stephens Smith , 2016). Here, he shows his concerns with the content of the Constitution. If it was not
to hold superb content, Jefferson knew that the United States would be back to where they started with
the Articles of Confederation. If one does not improve on what was the past, then how is the new any
better? This was his whole

Cal And Aron In John Steinbeck s East Of Eden
In the book East of Eden by John Steinbeck, Caleb and Aron are the twin sons of Adam and Cathy
Trask. Adam s relationship with Cal and Aron closely resembles that of the biblical Cain and Abel
parable. Adam, undoubtedly loving Aron more than Cal, is metaphorically shoving Cal into a corner
by rejecting so many of his gifts and actions as a son. The relationship between Cal and Adam is a
distant one from the beginning, neither making an effort to fully understand the other since Aron is so
obviously the perfect child. Cal, jealous of Aron constantly holding his father s attention, goes through
many dilemmas on the journey to gain his father s acceptance. In striving to ultimately gain his father
s blessing and acceptance, Cal demonstrates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

throws insults at her, which rebound and only hurt himself instead. Cal s face was one of sluggish and
fulfilled cruelty, after he successfully brought Aron to Cathy s room in her prostitution house, laughing
while Aron went crazy. (548) Even Cathy didn t know what Cal was hoping to gain from showing his
innocent brother this inexplicably awful scene, her and her house of sin. Upon leaving their mother s,
the sobbing Aron throws his fists at Cal until even he can t take it. He runs screaming into the dark,
and just after that, Aron is enlisting in the army. After days with no sign of him, Cal grows scared, and
a panic for Aron [rises] inside of him . (567) Feeling guilty, Cal burns the fifteen thousand dollars as
an attempted sacrifice to bring Aron back. The next thing heard from Aron is a postcard, telling Adam
he is in the army. Though Adam does not blame Cal for Aron s absence, their relationship grows no

The Issue Of Illegal Immigrants
No matter what a person s ethnicity or race may be, every person has thoughts, feelings, values,
aspirations, needs, and desires. People are uncomfortable if someone else s values and culture are
different from their own. The term for a group or community fearing another person s perspective and
lifestyle is called ethnocentrism. Ethnocentrism is the reason that American citizen s highly debate and
criticize illegal immigration, arguing that illegal immigrants are drug addicted thieves who thrive off
of stealing American s jobs and harming the United States labor force and the economy. As the
immigration rate progressively rise s it simultaneously concerns those who favor strict immigration
laws and believe that illegal immigrants are harming the United States. However, these assumptions
are hardly fact based and people fail to acknowledge that immigrants are human beings who only want
to help and support their families. The reality is that without illegal immigrants, the United States
would economically suffer.
Actual data shows that immigration has a generally positive impact on a county s economy, what with
immigrants doing work, paying taxes, spending their money in the country and all that. Even parts of
our infrastructure on which the economy depends are owned by foreigners. Places where strong anti
immigrant policies have been enacted usually suffer economic downturns as a result. It seems like
stopping immigration to improve the economy is like hacking your foot

  • 2. Testaments Betrayed Analysis While humans often live life in a duality, with a face they put on for the public and the true character they show with friends, the private life may easily seep into the public eye. In his piece Testaments Betrayed, Czech writer Milan Kundera asserts that the curtain between public and private lives is not to be removed, and those who do so are deplorable voyeurs. Although it is immoral for one to reveal another s private life, the barrier between public and private lives must be torn down when the public benefits, whether by the intruder or the individual in question himself. For those declaring the need for a societal shift in paradigm, leaders of a movement often need to intertwine their personal stories to demonstrate the necessity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An individual s rights are secondary to those of society, which seeks to benefit and advance more. Eric Garner was fatally choked by NYC police in 2015, prompting the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement. His last words, I can t breathe, were captured on video and shared millions of times while he was fading in and out of consciousness. While the bystander capturing the video may have intruded into his privacy, that moment was a necessary mingling of public and private because it personified the outrage present in society. In doing so, the bystanders demonstrated to a broad audience the injustice present in society. The dual nature of an individual s public and private personas also exactly demonstrates the necessity in breaching personal privacy, for individuals may have a different personal agenda than the public façade they create. Many colleges now review a student s social media profiles as a part of the holistic admissions process in order to verify the authenticity of a student s supposed character. I personally had a friend who was a Big 10 bound athlete have his contracts revoked because of his braggadocios nature on social media, often proclaiming how he had received contracts from schools that, in reality, had not extended one. While supposedly a breach in privacy of the prospective athlete, this step is necessary in the admissions process to ensure that the team and college in general has a reputable student body. Thus, the curtain of privacy must be torn away in situations where the public stands to gain knowledge to make informed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparison Of Gnosticism In The Truman Show And The Da... In modern day society, there are several ways in which the belief of Gnosticism is gradually being circulated throughout our culture. One popular way that Gnostic concepts are being easily dispersed is through the film industry. In widespread movies such as The Matrix, The Truman Show and The Da Vinci Code, the presence of underlying Gnostic themes is undeniable. While each of these movies do not encompass Gnosticism as a whole, there are certain Gnostic themes that are strongly represented within each of the movies. For example, in The Da Vinci Code there is a huge focus on the existence of a divine feminine principle just as the Gnostics believe in their religion. This example shown here is the Gnostic theme that will be focused on the most throughout this essay. By comparing the divine feminine principle within Gnostic texts with the feminine principle in the film The Da Vinci Code, I will demonstrate the ways that the feminine principle in The Da Vinci Code relates with the one from Gnosticism. However, these divine females must first be described ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After being denied the assistance of becoming impregnated by the First Principle, Sophia decided that she would create offspring on her own. Her plan backfires on her and her offspring ends up stealing her light and creating the material world that we humans reside in today. This creator of the material world is known as Ialtabaoth (Layton, Page 36). Now Sophia s central purpose is to descend down to the material world that her damaged offspring created and remind the people of this world that the spiritual world is our real home. This process is what the Gnostics call enlightenment and this is the only way to achieve true acquaintance with the spiritual realm. Sophia is the savior who bridges the gap between the human ignorance and the Gnostic truth. She is the only hope for revealing the supposed spiritual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Importance Of Race In The Film Slumdog Millionaire If you can do nothing else, do whatever is in your power to make the people in your life feel completely unashamed of who they are (Killermann). As times change and our society continues to evolve, the importance of human rights and acceptance are constantly emphasized. Through the movie, Slumdog Millionaire directed by Danny Boyle I learned about discrimination relating to social class. Additionally, in the song, Small Town Boy by Bronski Beat, I learned about how gay individuals may be judged by society. Through further analyzing and exploring these texts, I could seek real life examples of how human rights can be violated. These texts prove that we must move away from the deep rooted issue of discrimination and learn to accept, love, and celebrate our differences not only as individuals but as a society. In Danny Boyle s movie, Slumdog Millionaire , the use of pathos allows readers to understand how discrimination relating to social class is a real issue. The movie follows the life of a Muslim boy named Jamal, living in a Hindu environment. Jamal decides to participate in an Indian game show and has made it to the final round that could win himself one million dollars. As the audience settles down and the question is announced, the game show host turns to Jamal and says, Do the right thing in approximately three minutes and you will be as famous as me. And as rich as me. Almost (Boyle). Jamal who is someone that is not the wealthiest is hammered by the harsh ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Western countries have feared that Iran wants to acquire the atomic bomb since they have discovered its nuclear program in 2003. From that moment Iran has been considered as a real threat by the USA. But in fact the relations between these two countries have begun about 150 years ago and have not always been tense. The first relations were also cordial and useful for both parties. Iran used the US help to develop its education and industry, notably its oil industry, and the USA found an ally in the Middle East. So why Iran came to be perceived as a threat to the US and is it still a threat? Firstly we will focus on the beginning of the relations between the two countries. Then we will see how the Islamic revolution in 1979 radically changed the relationships. We will also examine the current issue of the Iranian nuclear program. Finally we will try to understand the foreign policy and the intentions of Tehran. 1. Iran and the Cold War 1950s The first official relations between the USA and Iran began in 1856 when the Shah of Persia Nasreddine sent an ambassador to Washington. Until the Second World War these relations were cordial. Actually the support of the USA served as a buffer against the pressure of the British and Russian Empire on Iran. Ultimately, the reliance on technology only leads to the detachment of people from those around them leaving everyone in isolation. Furthermore, the manner in which people are treated is a crucial sign of the immorality of our current world. People have begun to lose respect for each other, especially over the Internet. This disregard for others stems from the anonymity on the Internet which gives people the liberty to say whatever cruel thing is on their mind because of their shield that is their computer screen. The ability to hide behind one s keyboard is such a major contributor to cyberbullying as people don t get to physically see the impacts of their words. If a person says awful things to a stranger on the Internet, they will likely never meet the person to know how their comment made them feel. Through the rise of social media, the current generation has lost the empathy that would make them wary of what they do or say to avoid inflicting pain on others. A situation that can come out of this lack of concern for others is one like Amanda Todd, a young girl who committed suicide as a result of the hurtful things said to her by her peers over social media. It is based on the book written by Emilio Aguinaldo, Memoirs of a Revolution. The movie starts in 1901 with Agunaldo s capture by Kapampangan US forces under Fuston s command. Then, it flashes back to Aguinaldo s younger years. The flashback shows Aguinaldo collecting tax along with his friend Candido Tirona; the two meets an old woman who gave them perplexing prophecies. El Presidente centers on controversial figure in the Philippine history, Emilio Aguinaldo. There are two different sentiments of the Filipinos when he is the topic of discussion. He is either seen as a hero or an indecisive person, also known as a balimbing. With their two hours running time, they could have had added more relevant historical events. The narrative could have been effective if the story gave more depth to the character, rather than the almost paralyzed expression of the actor. Speaking of the actor, I believe that ER Estregan failed to effectively portray the character. • 11. Poetic Analysis Of The Song Graceland By Paul Simon Poetic Analysis of Paul Simon s Graceland In the realm of music, words and melodies work together in order to form a complete idea of an artist s work. However, by abandoning the melodies and reading closely into the lyrics of a song, readers are able to draw meaning and make observations from the text that could be overshadowed by its melodies. A fine example of a song where this method is applicable is Paul Simon s Graceland. Examining the lyrics reveals the story of a man making a pilgrimage to Elvis Presley s Graceland estate in Memphis, Tennessee in the same way a religious person would journey to a holy site. Through usage of imagery, tone, and metaphorical devices throughout allow this song to function as a comically surreal poem. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His repetition of where he is going emphasizes its significance to him, similar to the way someone would repeat something in a conversation to emphasize its importance: I m going to Graceland! Graceland! Memphis, Tennessee! Graceland is described as a place welcoming of people from different walks of life, indicated by, Poorboys and Pilgrims with families / And we are going to Graceland, (10 11). Here, the comically surreal notion of Graceland as a holy site is introduced with tourists making pilgrimages to the estate with their families, with the hopes that they will take something morally significant away from their journey. The narrator then reveals that, as a pilgrim to Graceland, he too has a family he brings with him, My travelling companion is nine years old / He is the child of my first marriage, (12 13). The diction here is indicative that the narrator is no longer in a relationship with the child s mother, leaning towards the possibility that the narrator hopes to rekindle a relationship with the child through their pilgrimage to Graceland, or that he is raising the child on his own and sharing a road trip with him. He then says, But I ve reason to believe / We both will be received / In Graceland, creating a hopeful tone sonically through the rhymes of believe and receive , which is contradicted by the ambiguous diction which alludes to the possibility that they could not be received in Graceland ... The Myers Briggs Type Inventory, better known as the MBTI, is based off C. G. Jung or Carl Jung s theory of eight psychological types. These eight types explained by Jung, fall under one of the four functions; sensing, intuition, thinking, or feeling and are combined with one of two attitudes; extraversion and introversion ( Carl Jung n.d.). • 13. Nuclear Consequences Of Nuclear War With keeping the above description of nuclear effects in mind, one can see the driving force behind the concept known as mutually assured destruction, or MAD. As a doctrine, the concept of MAD revolves around the notion that nuclear exchange, in a world with second strike capability, means that neither side could emerge the victor; only that each sides would be destroyed by the other. With MAD, no side has anything to gain by attacking the other as it would likely result in an un survivable counterattack; concurrently, no side can eliminate its nuclear weapons because it could then be overpowered by the other. Simply put, if there is no expectation of survival by counterattack, there is no reason strike period. Over the years, this balance and stability has been challenged by developments that skew the possibility of post nuclear war survival. Ballistic missile defense or even conventional weapons that can achieve strategic effects break down the foundation of MAD by reducing successful strike possibilities; if one side can shoot down some of the other side s missiles before they become a threat, then the chances are in favor of the side with that capability. (Bradley, 2015) Further, the concept of MAD seemed to lose the potency of truth recently. As the United States has reduced focus on its nuclear weapons programs since the Cold War ended, other states have increased the focus on theirs. Racism In The Film Remember The Titans There are many people in our world today, that believe racism is a problem of the past, that segregation and inequality are expressions that are not relevant today. The cold heart felt reality of this statement is that racism, is even more alive in our world today, than ever before. Circumstances such as, Caucasians being paid more than African Americans for the same job and Caucasian police officers gunning down innocent African Americans and being acquitted for it, are just some examples of the racial tensions in our society today. The people that believe racism is no longer a problem in this world, are simply ignoring the recent and past tragedies of African Americans. The inequalities this minority group has endured, has caught the attention of certain groups of people, that are trying to bring change, by taking a stand for a solution. In this challenge, the media has been very effective, in not only bringing the problems to the surface but also in seeking to effect resolutions. Throughout our countries past, the media, and even more specifically, movies, have been a powerful tool in bringing light of many types of injustices brought onto minority groups. A prime example of a movie that presents some of these issues is Remember the Titans . Kristal Cannici Dr. Lammers The West and the World: 1945 Present 20 November 2016 The Iran Hostage Crisis The Iran Hostage Crisis changed the political connections between the United States and Iran for several years to come. The Iran Hostage Crisis became a symbol of America s global power and influence On November 4, 1979, Iranian students stormed the US embassy in Tehran, Iran, and took sixty three Americans hostage. The students agreed that the hostages would not be released until the Shah returned to Iran to stand trial for the crimes committed against the Iranian people. (Bechtel). Despite the Shah s treatment of the Iranian people, the President Carted allowed the Shah into the United States to receive medical treatment. Although President Carter made attempts to negotiate the hostages released, he failed several times. Because of his failures he was viewed inept and ineffective in regards to the crisis. The hostages were released on January 20, 1981, the day that President Ronald Reagan was sworn into office. This paper will discuss the main reason why the hostages were taken, and why they were not released sooner. Back in 1950, when Mossadegh was Prime Minister of Iran, he nationalized Iran s oil industry, reducing the European influence throughout the nation over the oil commodity. • 22. Sociological Imagination Definition The definition of Sociological Imagination by C. Wright Mills according to the class notes is to think ourselves away from the familiar routines of our daily lives to look at them anew. This concept allows us to see connections between individual concerns and larger social issues . Sociological imagination is our ability to look on our own situations and circumstances in different ways or angles and trying to see if there s any connection between our personal struggles and the issues of the society. The impact of the issue is based on biography, history and social structure. One example of using sociological imagination is going to college. • 23. Silence In A Room Of One s Own And Aurora Leigh Silence In Virginia Woolf s A Room of One s Own and Elizabeth Barrett Browning s Aurora Leigh, women stay silent as men flourish in achieving their greatest potential. In her academic journal, Sexology and A Room of One s Own, Patricia Moran believes that, A Room of One s Own is arguably the most influential essay of feminist literary criticism (Moran 477). Females, as noted in these two works, remain limited to the works of their home and unexposed to the first class world of literature. They are required to dedicate their work and effort to a dominant male figure in their lives. Both Woolf and Browning argue that women live silently and restricted to the authority of their husband, parents, or a close relative. Despite the different time and literary periods of Aurora Leigh and A Room of One s Own, Browning and Woolf portray their female characters as stuck in their sense of identity. These women are regulated to the family society, discouraged from having a role in the literary realm, and expected to appear complacent to their male figures. Due to the lack of education and tactics needed to succeed monetarily, women become confined to the close proximity of their children, spouse, and related social circle. At the beginning of Aurora Leigh, Aurora s description of her aunt gives readers an understanding of the type of women she is in society She stood straight and calm, Her somewhat narrow forehead braided tight As if for taming accidental thoughts From possible pulses; brown hair pricked with gray By frigid use of life (272 276). Aurora s detailed descriptions of her aunt reveals the admiration that society has for women of comparable character. Aurora s never ending analysis of the aunt s personality and identity allude to the idea that Elizabeth Barrett Browning pities women that limit their role in society to that of the aunt. Likewise, Woolf uses a fictional example of William Shakespeare s sister to expose the expectations that a woman would have in Shakespeare s day. Judith, as adventurous, as imaginative, as agog to see the world as he [Shakespeare] was, would be required to fulfill the duty of a woman, thus preventing her sharp mind to wander outside of her domestic roles. ... This imbalance in Paul`s life causes him to be an Other because he has changed his entire life to simply swindle wealthy whites. In Devil in a Blue Dress, director Carl Franklin incorporates references to Delilah from The Imitation of Life (1934), the Black Dahlia, and Oscar Micheaux`s The Betrayal (1948) to suggest that Daphne Monet will always be marked with blackness, despite passing for a white. At the club, the notion of recognition and misrecognition is employed as Ezekiel asks around for a white girl. Additionally, he begins to misname Daphne by referring to her as Delilah and Dahlia. The reference is an allusion to the 1934 film Imitation of Life. In the film, Delilah is a black homemaker living in a subordinate role to her white friend Beatrice. The high dependence on the U.S. market has proven to be a great weakness (since 2008) for Harley Davidson due to the poor economic condition of the US (GlobalData).
