Literary Naturalism And The Open Boat
Literary naturalism was a movement that began in the late 1800s to the mid 1900s that used detailed
realism to show the readers that the human character is shaped by many things that are outside of
human control. This movement tried to depict everyday reality where the characters would receive
symbolic, idealistic, or supernatural treatment. Literary realism was a prominent movement in the mid
1800s in Europe, and naturalism was derived from this movement; the writers were influenced largely
by Darwin s theories on evolution. Many writers believed that a person s character was determined by
social status and heredity, and they try to determine any and all underlying forces that may influence
the characters actions. Naturalist writers often write about taboo subjects, such as sexuality, but also
many other subjects, such as Theodore Dreiser s Sister Carrie, which is about a young country girl
who moves to the big city to follow her dream of making it big. Stephen Crane s The Open Boat is
another example. His story is an autobiographical story about how he and three crew members
survived a shipwreck. Other subjects often written about by naturalists are poverty, racism, violence,
prejudice, disease, corruption, prostitution, and filth. Due to the topic they wrote about, critics often
targeted naturalist writers for focusing too much on the darker side of human life. Literary naturalism
is where the effect the environment has on the human characters is emphasized. The

Of Religion In Sherman Alexie sThe Lone Ranger And Tonto...
Religion is a controversial topic in modern society, whether it the topic of God existing or the fear of a
certain religion and its followers. Regardless, in Sherman Alexie s The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fist
Fight in Heaven, a book composed of numerous short stories, there is a story that clearly drives a
connection between religion and the characters: Jesus Christ s Half Brother is Alive and Well on the
Spokane Reservation. In this story, Alexie uses a biblical analogy to create the character James, a
mysterious young boy who does not speak for much of his early life, to give an allusion of the Bible
and James. Later, we see the unnamed narrator caring for James after his parent s death of a house fire,
giving yet another allusion to the narrator and a follower of a religion. At the conclusion of the
chapter, James muteness has gone away and begins to speak lessons that give the narrator meaning,
alluding to the Bible once again. By using allusion throughout the chapter, Alexie gives us a hopeful
future for the characters, much like religion gives a hopeful outlook towards the future for its
followers.
As stated earlier, James birth alludes to the birth of Christ, emphasizing that Christ and James are
somewhat similar. Alexie did this to reference the birth of Jesus Christ and use this to develop the
characters later in the story. In the chapter, the beginning stated; ...birth to a boy today and seeing how
it was nearly Christmas...she kept telling everyone she was a

Positive Aspects Of Aging
When it comes to aging, there are some positive aspects and negative aspects. The negative aspect of
aging that I would want to avoid is having fragile bones, brittle hair and skin, and possible memory
loss. The older a person gets the more their body tends to wear out and it becomes difficult to do
activities because their body is not how it used to be. I would not want my bones to act and I wouldn t
want a hunch back either. I feel like my life would be miserable if my skeletal system was in pain
most of the time. Next, when an individual becomes older, their skin and hair becomes brittle and
them being old, they cannot maintain it. My skin is already sensitive, so I can only imagine how it be
when I get older. Seniors skin tend to look loose and gets very delicate. The older you get, skin tears
more often than usually. To add, my hair is very important to me and I spend so much time on it. I
know growing old can cause your hair to be fragile. Furthermore, memory loss is suffered from a lot
of seniors and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The older one gets, the wiser they become. Also, when people get old, they are motivated about life
and they are happy when they are surrounded by loved ones. Now once it comes to living longer,
people can enjoy those positive aspects of being old age for a long time. I believe extended life can be
a good thing because people can spend time with their loved ones a lot longer, people are able to
accomplish more goals, and they can become accustom to the new generations life changes or
influence them. There are those that passed away that left a trademark on this earth and if they were
alive still they would continue with their amazing talents. It would be great if we can extend like
indefinitely, just imagine the people that were so dear to your hearts never pass away. Yet, there are
some consequence that are available because of extended life such as an increase in population and a
high demand for senior care

Nelson Mandela s Civil Disobedience Essay
Nelson Mandela, a civil rights activist once said, I have fought against white domination, and I have
fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which
all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. Nelson Mandela used civil
disobedience in South Africa to try to give rights to the black Africans in that country. Mandela s
involvement in civil disobedience was due to personal influences, he chose to participate in civil
disobedience to protest racial discrimination in South Africa , and he did achieve success using this
controversial method of standing up for what he strongly believes to be right. Civl disobedience is

Spring Sports Research Papers
The winter season can be a time for some athletes at Perry to focus on preparation for the spring sports

performances and a few Far East Championships. With the weather dropping into the 30 s players are

Television Impact On The Television Industry
The television industry is growing, with so many genres to explore, and varying age groups producers
can target, there is always a show to watch. In western cultures the hours spent watching television has
drastically increased with the television market opens up the potential of more variety. This escalation
of television attraction has affected the way young people interact with each other. Television has
transformed the concepts of identity and commonalities among peers. To understand whether this
transformation is a good or bad, a study was done looking at the effects watching one show has on a
group of people. The study included five people, three females, and two males, all of whom are
currently watching The Vampire Dairies (TVD) based on the novels by L. J. Smith, starring Ian
Somerhalder, Paul Welsey, and Nina Dobrev. Two females who had been watching it in the past but
have sense ceased were also included in this study, in order to get the fuller picture. The accounts all
shared how the experience of watching television among young adults at the Canadian Mennonite
University has had a positive impact on their friendships. The first major theme I found during this
study was the perception everyone had about what television meant to him or her and how that
reflected how he or she defined community. No matter if it was the previews that caught their
attention, or he or she had free time to spare, or him or he had heard from friends that it was a decent

Transmedia: an integral function of Entertainment Franchises
Entertainment franchises have become the most valuable economic function of the entertainment
industry in modern times and there is a lot to explore in respect to this multidimensional monopoly.
Along with the multifaceted nature of these organisations, numerous legal implications emerge.
A successful franchise creates worlds that survive and thrive, despite repeated readings and viewings,
shifts in fashion, value and taste, deadening of postmodern interpretation; thus generating renewable
energy and perpetual existence in the market place. Merchandising and marketing are important
processes in sustaining this presence in between media releases. The transmedia narrative of the

Who I Am I
Many obstacles in my life have made me who I am today. I was raised in West Portsmouth, Ohio, a
small town built off football and family. Life in a small town seems to go by very slowly. It s all about
what you make out of it. Certain events and certain people have influenced me in a way that has made
me a better person. The character of one s self is built from all the hard times we go through in life,
not always off of the easy ones.
My father has had a major influence on me during the course of my life, thus far. My dad was in the
Marine Corps before I was born. He was always strict with me with every aspect of my life and has
always pushed me to be a better person. Growing up, I would see him get up early and come home
late from work. He is a very hard working man and I hope I develop at least half of his working
abilities. He has taught me the majority of what I know now. He is a very smart man and it s great to
have a role model like that as my father.
My mother always played a more studious role in my life. She graduated from Shawnee State
University with a degree in nursing. She is a very smart woman and has always pushed me to get good
grades and go to college. I could honestly say that I wouldn t have received half the good grades as I
did if it wasn t for her always checking up and being there for me with my schooling. She s always
had a job as well and she strives to make me a better person religiously and mentally day by day. The

Hodgkin s Disease Research Paper
Risk Factors Scientists have found a number of risk factors that may influence the probability of
someone getting Hodgkin s disease, but it is still not clear how these factors increase the risk (4). For
example, some researchers think that infections with the Epstein Barr virus may sometimes cause
damage to the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) in the B lymphocytes, which leads to the creation of
Reed Sternberg cells (4). DNA is the set of instructions sent to the genes that dictates cell functions.
Some genes are responsible for controlling when cells grow, divide, and die (4). Genes that assist the
cells ability to grow, divide, and stay alive are known as oncogenes (4). Genes that slow down cell

Comparing A P and An Ounce of Cure Essay
Comparing A P and An Ounce of Cure
If a reader is given two short stories, two stories that are seemingly different on the surface, to read
and compare and contrast, a surprising amount of similarities and differences can be found. Unless
they deal with the same subject matter, most short stories aren t really related, until some analysis is
done. The stories A P, by John Updike, and An Ounce of Cure, by Alice Munro, are very similar but
very different. One of the mot important similarities between these two stories is the problems the
opposite sex causes for the main character. In A P, Sammy, the main character, quits his job because he

In An Ounce of Cure, the main character and her mother have to use and ounce of cure to try and
make up for the main character s mistakes. If only an ounce of prevention had been used, there
wouldn t have been any of those horrible problems that arose. These two stories are also very
different. The main difference is that Sammy takes less dramatic measures to resolve his problems
than the girl in An Ounce of Cure. Sammy only quits his job. Since he is young and it is summer time,
he shouldn t have any problems finding another job. The girl in An Ounce of Cure, however, takes far
more drastic measures to solver her problems. She tries to kill herself, gets drunk, and endangers the
lives of the two young children that she supposed to be watching. Another difference is that An Ounce
of Cure has far less detail in it than in A P. An Ounce of Cure is much longer, but much more
straightforward. It gives the story and a few extra details, but not many. On the other hand, A P
Sammy gives vivid details of everything around him. He paints a very clear picture of the store, the
young ladies, the other shoppers, and his every thought. Both main characters in these stories have
very different attitudes towards everything. Sammy, in A P, is very self assured. He realizes that he
may be making a mistake halfway through quitting his job, but goes through with it anyway. By
reading into his thoughts, the reader can infer that he is around the ages of

Disadvantages Of International Trust Law
The International Trust Law (No. 69/1992) legislation facilitates the formation and administration of
an international trust. The law built on the existing Cyprus trust legislation of 1995 (The Trustees Law,
CAP. 193). The amendment of Cyprus trust legislation introduces innovative provisions and provides
considerable incentives for the establishment of trusts in Cyprus. Furthermore, Cyprus becomes an
attractive centre for international trusts. As a result, new investment opportunities have emerged.

ECV Turning up the Heat in the North East
The profitability of a beef suckler herd is directly related to the number of calves reared per cow
annually. Commercial suckler herds should aim for a tighter calving period with cows producing a
viable calf every 365 days.
The average calving period for lowland suckler herd is 21 weeks, compared to the 12 week target and
reducing the calving period from 21 weeks to 12 weeks can increase revenue from extra weaning
weight by more than £2000 for a 50 cow herd.
Tighter calving periods will increase profitability. If the weaning date on the farm stays constant then
a calf born in the first 3 weeks of calving will on average have a weaning age of 230 days weighing
309kg. A calf born in the 18th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This data is then collected, interpreted and analysed to deliver an accurate indication of breeding
potential. This data can also be used to give health and nutritional insights for the farmer in a user
friendly format.
SCR Heatime works by monitoring the cow s activity with a unique motion sensor tag which records
cow activity in 2 hour blocks, providing detailed data on the cow s activity levels and their intensity.
The data is collected each time the cow passes under the ID unit, the data is transferred from the tag to
the Heatime control box using infra red communication. This allows the base unit to be sited close to
water troughs and other well used routes so the animal s activity data will be picked up regularly.
The activity data is analysed by the system and separates the cow s day to day activity from oestrus
related activities. The screen shows obvious peaks when the cow is in heat and indicates the optimum
time for inseminating the cow.
In addition, SCR Heatime will highlight cows with low activity levels which can act as an early
indication that an animal requires attention. The home screen will flash up as a health alert giving the
farmer early warning to possible ailments in the cow. The system also detects non cycling cows,
allowing them to be investigated so that less fertile cows can be removed from the herd, thereby
decreasing costs.

Informative Speech On Content Implementation Plan Essay
Content Implementation Plan I am appreciative for the valuable information I obtained from this
course. I intend to incorporate the researched practices into my reading program. Allington addressed
several critical components of instruction necessary to ensure reading interventions are delivered with
the best intentions and students are responding successfully to the reading interventions. However, my
aha moments included the topics: the volume of reading, matching students independent and
instructional reading levels to appropriate texts, expert interventionist, matching intervention to the
classroom curriculum, and group size. Volume of Reading I agree with Allington, the volume of
reading is a critical component which supports the quantity of extensive reading, required to ensure
struggling readers accuracy and fluency rates accelerate to develop proficient readers. Often the
reading interventions focus on specific reading skills such as phonics, word recognition, fluency
(speed), and etc. The research suggests the intervention time be dedicated to continuous reading versus
using the majority of the time working on individual skills. Allington provided me the critical
awareness and the importance of the quantity of extensive reading. I definitely will redesign my
intervention time to reflect the suggested amount of time to focus on individual reading skills and
extensive reading, as Allington suggested. Therefore, I look forward to incorporating extensive

Essay On Native American Tribal Music
Music is one of the most influential parts of cultures all over the world, but to the Native Americans it
is pivotal. Native American tribal music is a very important part of most Native Americans history,
culture, and societies.
Music is an extremely important role of Native American culture and history. Generally, it was one of
the only methods that they had as a way to pass down traditions and their history from generation to
generation. There wasn t very much documentation of their history until validation from English
settlers, other than some archeological evidence of musical instruments and depictions of music that
have been dated as far back as the 7th Century. There were typically two types of songs that the tribes
would pass down, and they would be either public songs or private songs. Public songs were often
historical, and could be retold into many different versions which often gave the songs different
meanings. But the private songs were unchanged through the history and kept those tribes
history/culture intact forever. There were primarily six different areas of music in the United States
where different tribes resided. The main characteristics of all of these diverse areas were that they
were based on singing and percussion. The vocalization of these tribes range from solos, chorales,
unison, and multipart singing. Percussion was also very common, and the use of drums and rattles
were used to keep a steady beat for singers. Flutes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Tragedy Of Beowulf By William Shakespeare
Ancestry plays an important part in Beowulf, it is the blood that the characters carry that decides their
fate. To try to deny destiny, is both courageous yet, for some it is futile. Beowulf s most conflicting
character is Grendel, throughout the story you may feel pity for him, and other times you feel hatred
for him. Grendel live in a marshy swamp, and is a descendant of Cain, who killed his own blood
brother, Abel, out of jealousy. To pay for this ultimate sin, Cain s whole clan was condemned to be
outcasts. The apple does not fall far from the tree because Grendel also feels envy towards the people
in Heorot for shunning him away, so he retaliates by killing people without feeling any type of
remorse.
In the beginning, times were peaceful in Heorot. There would often be banquets in the mead hall and
warriors would celebrate their victories. It harrowed him to hear the din of the loud banquet, (Beowulf
43). Grendel was frustrated by all the noise the people made every single day. This may seem as an
overreaction, but the reader must look at it from both sides. One can only wonder about the agony
Grendel must have went through to hear the people who tormented him, have parties every single day
and enjoy themselves. It s no surprise that Grendel ended up snapping and going into a rampage.
Although Grendel is dangerous, he only attacks when it is dark outside. Could it be that Grendel is
ashamed of being seen when it s daylight? Grendel has a local habitation and a

Defining Class And Social Structure Of Social Class
Defining Class is hard to do as there are many different approaches to defining class one can take. We
can look at class as a subjective location, how do people, individually and collectively, locate
themselves and others within a social structure of inequality? Or we could define class as the
relational explanation of economic life chance What explains inequalities in economically defined life
chances and material standards of living of individuals and families? The challenging nature of class
in contemporary society comes from the fact that there has never been an academic consensus the
definition of class (due to the fact that class in its very nature is an abstract and subjective term).
However, this essay will argue that class is an amalgamation of how individuals and the collective
locate themselves, and the relational explanation of economic life chance as well as policy and
politics. This is done using Weberian and Marxian definitions of social class and exploring the role of
power and power relations in creating a class society. Exploring the similarities as well as differences
between the definitions of class presented by Karl Marx and Max Weber; in order to inform the
approach this essay will be taking in discussing whether or not ours is a class society.
By our society this essay will be referring to modern western society, specifically focusing on Great
Britain. Looking at the contemporary examples of class using examples from politics and policy, the

fragmentation with its goal of having Web interoperability . The W3C (short for World Wide Web
Consortium) are a group founded in 1994 by Sir Tim Burners Lee, the same individual to have
invented the World Wide Web in 1989. This compliance group are in charge of setting the
international rules and guidelines for websites which are placed for the World Wide Web. They do this
so that the Web progresses in a single direction rather than being split amongst competing divisions

This means that when the user is searching for a specific page through a search engine such as Google,
they will be able to find what they are looking for swiftly and will not have to search through other
pages to find what they want. This means that meta tags allow better navigation and accessibility to
information for users.
Meta tagging can be used in order to aid user access to information, as it helps people find the website
based on the topic of information. This is done effectively when all of the keywords are included in
the meta data when the website is being built. For example, when a website is being designed to
promote itself such as a cricket club, words in relation to the club would be used such as cricket,
batsman, sponsor, club name etc. these words would all be included within the meta rage because
these words are related to the topic of the page and would therefore allow people to find the website
and its information a lot more quicker and easily.
Meta tagging is necessary for aiding users to find a website and being able to access the information
that it contains. Meta tagging makes finding websites a lot easier because you do not need to know the
specific URL of the web page that you are trying to search for. This is due to the fact that the user can
use the information that is already provided to them in order to find a link to that webpage that they
are searching for. This will make navigating on the internet a easier

Business, Sustainability And The Natural Environment
Business, Sustainability and the Natural Environment, Daniel Katz During the past 25 years,
awareness of the environment has increased tremendously. Non profit organizations look beyond
institutional goals, and instead, try to find a shared vision that works for everyone in the society. Our
society needs to stop consuming as if we have an infinite planet; we have to have integrity for the
world we live in because the natural resources that have been sustaining us will not last forever.
Companies need to evolve with the modern age and changing consumer market. For example, Netflix
never thought they would produce their own shows, however, with the changing consumer market,
they have done just that. Also, NGO s sometimes have to partner with bigger for profit companies in
order to target a larger consumer base, thus, solidifying the fact that the for profit and non profit sector
have to team together in order to sustain the environment in which we inhabit. Business, Sustainability
and Poverty, Jacqueline Novogratz This plenary begins by stating that a financial crisis occurs when
people in the markets do not trust each other. Trust is what makes a society fair. Corruption flourishes
upon weaknesses in economic, political, and social institutions, and this diverts economic growth by
eroding the quality of public goods. In this age, income equality has increased across countries due to
globalization and technology; however, income inequality within countries has increased as

A Number Of Studies And Researches Showing The Improvement...
CHAPTER 2 LITERATURE REVIEW A number of studies and researches showing the improvement
in LEACH protocol of Wireless Sensor Networks. 2.1 Literature Review Heinzelman et al. (2000) [1]
Based on their findings that the conventional protocols of direct transmission, minimum transmission
energy, multihop routing, and static clustering may not be optimal for sensor networks, proposed
LEACH (Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy), a clustering based protocol that utilizes
randomized rotation of local cluster base stations(cluster heads) to evenly distribute the energy load
among the sensors in the network. LEACH uses localized coordination to enable scalability ... Show

Energy LEACH protocol improves the choice method of cluster head and multihop LEACH protocol
improves communication mode from single hop to multi hop between cluster head and sink. Chen et
al. (2007) [5]proposed a novel clustering associating algorithm, known as Energy Residue Aware
(ERA)clustering algorithm, to prolong the lifetime of a sensor network by balancing the energy
consumption of the entire network.ERA enables each sensor to associate its cluster head to find a path
with maximum energy residue sum instead of a path with the minimum energy consumption as many
energy efficient routing protocols have been proposed in sensor networks for different scenarios and
various applications in literature. One of the efficient way is to group sensors in the neighbouring into
clusters and send aggregate data by a designated cluster head. However, such design discipline still
can not balance the energy consumption of the entire network. As such, in worst cases, some nodes
may be soon exhausted. Consequently, it is difficult to provide effective operation and seamless
coverage in such a network. Cheng et al.(2008) [6] proposed an energy efficient, weighted clustering
algorithm which improves the cluster formation process of LEACH by taking residual energy mutual
position, workload balance and MAC functioning into consideration.WSN is extremely energy
limited, the traditional network routing protocols are not suitable to it. Energy conservation becomes a

The Beachfront Plain Is Undulating With Heights Somewhere...
Study area The beachfront plain is undulating with heights somewhere around zero and 600m above
ocean level. The hinterland is portrayed by a moving low level. Transformative rocks constitute this
level while the seaside plain is made out of sedimentary arrangements and outcrops of changeable
rocks. Mean yearly precipitation is around 3000mm in Kribi. In the same station the mean yearly
temperature is 260c. The vegetation is central timberland. The central atmosphere is described by
exchanging dry and wet period. The zone has an area surface territory of 11.280km2 with a populace
of around 30.000 tenants in view of a projection of the 1986 National Population Census (Okolo
Etekpe, n.d.). The indigenous tribes are overwhelmingly seekers, agriculturists, and anglers who rely
on upon the common habitat for their survival. This timberland harbors pigmies whose livelihoods are
exclusively subject to rummaging and chasing. There are three urban focuses and a few little towns in
the zone. There was an uncontrolled inundation of individuals looking for development occupations or
seeking to give administrations to the vagrant work constrain around the pipeline course and at the
Kribi Port. This flood of to a great extent male occupation seekers prompted genuine social
disturbance of urban and town groups (Grimes, 2005). The pipeline undertaking crosses the South

Decision Making Step
Decision Making Steps There are six steps typically associated with effective decision processes.
These six steps in the Managerial Decision Making Process are recognition of Decision Requirement,
Diagnosis and Analysis of Causes, Development of Alternatives, Selection of Desired Alternative,
Implementation of Chosen Alternative and Evaluation and Feedback.(Daft 1995) First steps in the
decision making steps are recognition of decision requirement. The ability to recognize what is known
is usually very important in the decision making steps. Therefore, during making decision managers
need to recognition problems and opportunity. This is because decision making is the process of

(5) redesign the work area to make it more pleasant, and (6) dismiss or retrain those supervisors who
are disliked by employees. Therefore, decision alternatives can be thought of as the tools for reducing
the difference between the organization s current and desired performance. In the steps 4 , once the
alternative have beeen developed, one must be selected. This might seem to be an obvious step after
all, this is because managers have already determined what their best alternative is. However, this best
alternative will be based on the amount of information available to the managers and by their
imperfect judgement. In addition, the manager s goal is to make the choice with the least amount of
risk and uncertainty. Because some risk is inherent for most non programmed decisions, managers try
to gauge prospects for success. Under conditions of uncertainly, they may have to relt on their intution
and experience to estimate whether a given course of action is likely to succeed. (Daft 1995) For
example, let us assume our problem is the low performance of sales department. We might believe that
performance of sales would be most conveniently increased if we dismissed the department
supervisor. But our investigation discovers that the supervisors is extremely important for

The Effects Of Drunk Driving On The Road Of Driving
Oluwaseyi Isola
Prof. Laura Baltuska
English 101 015
29 November, 2016
Under the Influence Is Under Arrest
What is one of the most evil and deadly acts? Drunk driving? Oh no! These two words together are
uncordial behaviors. The crime of driving a vehicle or operating a motorized machine while under the
influence of alcohol is totally against the law of the land, but some people still won t stop. Is there any
gain in drunk driving than loss of lives, loss of driving privileges, and property vehicles? One third of
traffic deaths involve alcohol impaired driving (MADD). Therefore, a behavior that involves a tiny
proportion of drivers is one of the key causes of death on the roads. This is an indication that retaining
the licenses of drivers involved in drunk driving is not enough to deter drunk driving because some
people in this category are still driving even though their licenses have been suspended or revoked.
For this reason, it is necessary to adopt more strict measures to deal with the problem. In particular,
drunk driving can be prevented through the use of ignition interlock systems and sobriety checkpoints
at an individual level while a school based instructional program can help to prevent the problem at a
community level.
To begin with, drunk driving is a serious menace to Americans on the road, as it contributes to a large
number of traffic deaths and injuries. In 2012, for instance, over 10,000 people lost their lives from
crashes attributed to drunk driving.

Classical Oration In A Few Good Men
Ross vs. Kaffee: Classical Oration in A Few Good Men With or without knowing it, everybody makes
arguments everyday. Whether a child making a point to their mother or a lawyer making a point to the
jury, everybody, sometimes unknowingly, uses methods of persuasions and classical oration to make
their point seem appealing, and to get other people to agree with them. In the movie, A Few Good
Men, military lawyers Lt. Jack Ross and Lt. Daniel Kaffee, like any other lawyer, must persuade and
convince the jury whether the defendant is innocent or guilty. Released in 1992, A Few Good Men,
presents the story of Kaffee, who is trying to defend navy officers Dawson and Downey who were
accused of murdering Santiago, a fellow navy soldier. Using the term Code Red, Kaffee insists that
Dawson and Downey were only participating in a hazing like activity to Santiago after being ordered
by their commander to toughen Santiago up. Ross, the prosecutor, states that Dawson and Downey
had the intent to murder Santiago, as they killed him by shoving a poisoned rag down his throat.
Although a difficult case, Lt. Kaffee makes an opening statement that is more compelling than the
opening statement given by Lt. Ross by using certain methods of persuasion and a traditional
approach to classical oration. In his opening statement, Kaffee defends his clients with the main idea
that the two officers were only following orders, and had no intent to kill Santiago. Kaffee starts off in
exordium and to win the attention of his audience he is informal and uses colloquialism. In the movie
Kaffee appears to be fairly laid back and comfortable in his chair and says that any claim against his
own just ain t true. Kaffee uses ethos here, by presenting his confidence with the topic, as he is so
unworried by the opening statement previously given by Ross, and by using colloquium makes
himself familiar with the audience. Instead of presenting a tough, stern, no feeling military man, Kaffe
s actions and words showcases that he wants to relate more with the jury and connect with them as
people, not as robotic military workers. Kaffee continues his argument with pathos, he appeals to the
jury s sympathy by stating how these men had to follow

Plagiarism Is The Wrongful Appropriation And Stealing And...
Plagiarism is the wrongful appropriation and stealing and publication of another author s language,
thoughts, ideas, or expressions and the representation of them as one s own original work.[1][2] The
idea remains problematic with unclear definitions and unclear rules.[3][4][5] The modern concept of
plagiarism as immoral and originality as an ideal emerged in Europe only in the 18th century,
particularly with the Romantic movement.
Plagiarism is considered academic dishonesty and a breach of journalistic ethics. It is subject to
sanctions like penalties, suspension, and even expulsion. Recently, cases of extreme plagiarism have
been identified in academia.[6]
Plagiarism is not a crime per se but in academia and industry, it is a serious ethical offense,[7][8] and
cases of plagiarism can constitute copyright infringement.

The Nurse Practitioner
Growing up my family had little to no money. My parents, immigrants from El Salvador, worked two
jobs each. Home was a small space with a conjoined kitchen and living room. When Mom and Dad
first arrived to America, they never imagined a child of theirs would become a university student.
Coming to America itself was in their wildest dreams. To them, an education of that level was
unattainable. Now, I represent my family wherever I go. I am at TWU for my family and for my

JOHN PAUL II was the first non Italian pope since 1523, whose energetic, active approach to his

to heal religious divisions there, was followed by a visit to Brazil in October. On a five day visit to

157 L. Ed. 2d 769; 2003 U.S. LEXIS 9198 Facts Maryland police officers pulled a vehicle over for
speeding at approximately 3am on 7 August 1999. The police officers found three men in the vehicle.
The driver was Donte Partlow, the front seat passenger and defendant Joseph Pringle, and the backseat
passenger Otis Smith. One of the police officers asked the owner and driver of the vehicle for his
license and registration. When Partlow opened the glove box, the police officer observed a large
amount of money in the glove box. The police officer checked for outstanding warrants and issued
Partlow a warning. Then the officer asked for permission to search his vehicle. Upon searching the
vehicle the police officer found the money he had seen earlier as well as five baggies of cocaine in
between the armrest and back seat. All three occupants in the vehicle were questioned and denied any
knowledge or ownership of the cocaine. Subsequently all three men were arrested and brought back to
the police station for questioning. Pringle waived his rights after being given a Miranda warning and
confessed that the cocaine was his and he intended to sell it. He claimed that the other occupants in the
vehicle had no knowledge of the drugs. At trial, Pringle moved to suppress his confession, claiming

Why Is Qantas So Important To The Australian Aviation...
The Australian aviation industry faced toughest operating environment in the past 2 years driven by
increased capacity in the domestic and global market, weak consumer sentiments after repetitive plane
crashes, the ever rising and unstable oil prices and the economic uncertainty prevailing due to global
economic crisis. Qantas introduced transformations in the form of maximising cost reduction, right

aligning capital expenditure to financial performance and accelerating simplification which are hard
yet necessary precautions to be maintained for a profitable and sustainable future (Anon., 2014, p. 5).
Qantas recorded $204 millions of benefits in the second half of 2013/14 due to the transformations
even though Qantas recorded a loss of $646 million loss before tax, associated with an increase in fuel
price by $253 million compared to 2012/13 and revenue decline of $550 million. Demand reduced

A INTRODUCTION
It is possible that most of us; the students, the employees or even some academicians don t know the
term mobbing . Mobbing is a new term in today s management issues. The term comes from other
fields of study, i.e.; behavioral sciences.
Mobbing basically refers to an attacking behavior. Mobbing was used firstly to describe the attacks
from a smaller group of animals directed against one single larger animal. Later on, this animal
behavior term was carried on to child behavior, and referred to the very destructive behaviors of a
group of children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Theoretically mobbing is an extreme form of social stressors at work. It is amazing both from the
scientist s and the practitioner s point of view that there was so little prior research in this area.
A social interaction, through which one s attacked by one or more (seldom more than 4) individuals on
almost a daily basis and for periods of many months, forcing the person into an almost helpless
position with a high potential risk of expulsion.
Mobbing is long lasting, recurrent, and serious negative actions and behavior that is annoying and
oppressing. It is not mobbing if you are scolded once or somebody shrugs his/her shoulders at you
once. Negative behaviors develop into mobbing when it becomes continuous and repeated. Often the
victim of mobbing feels unable to defend him/herself.
The direction of hostile communication and behaviors toward one individual.
The phenomena of repeated workplace aggression by individuals to harm other with whom they work.
Psychological terror at workplace
Ganging up on someone in the work place
The situations where an employee is persistently picked on or humiliated by leaders or coworkers.
Originally refers to group aggression.
Mobbing or mobbing is one form of extreme negative social interaction at work.
All these definitions vary in their content but refer to the same fact; a fact that one faces

The Darkside of Whistleblowing

for example employees, who recognize a wrong behavior of someone or their organization and want to
do something against it in order to see that this behavior, or the wrong actions taken, are corrected for
them it is a matter of ethical responsibility, and they need to do it to feel comfortable in their skin. An
advantage of this behavior is that the Whistleblowers feel a deep satisfaction making a substantial
contribution toward the welfare of society. Of course, personal gratification isn t the only benefit of
becoming a whistleblower. For example, in qui tam cases under the federal False Claims Act,

But by the time he recognized he could gain profit out of blowing the whistle on this case, he followed
the wrong path. Instead of telling the right people inside the company, he collected material to prove
his theory and did not hesitate to trap colleagues which weren t really part of the fraud, just to get a
good amount of money for him out of it. So he chose his own interests above the interests of the
organization. The Federal Government as a representative of the United States had to act on behalf of
all people who had an interest in this case, such as doctors or competitors in the same industry. Federal
Government acted under the assumptions of the utilitarian approach. The utilitarian approach to
ethical decision making says that the ethical choice is one that produces the greatest good for the
greatest number (R.L. Daft D. Marcic, 2013).
Assessment of the actions taken by Douglas Durand and the Federal Government
According to Alex Storey (2009), in the old days, you were expected to be loyal or be fired. Durand
refused to be loyal to his company and chose to follow the ethical individualism approach. The
individualism approach suggests that actions are ethical when the individual s best long term interests,
because with everyone pursuing self interested, the greater good is ultimately served (R.L. Daft D.
Marcic, 2013). Because most people try to get the best for their own interest, there might be a great
understanding for the behavior of Douglas Durand

  • 2. Literary Naturalism And The Open Boat Literary naturalism was a movement that began in the late 1800s to the mid 1900s that used detailed realism to show the readers that the human character is shaped by many things that are outside of human control. This movement tried to depict everyday reality where the characters would receive symbolic, idealistic, or supernatural treatment. Literary realism was a prominent movement in the mid 1800s in Europe, and naturalism was derived from this movement; the writers were influenced largely by Darwin s theories on evolution. Many writers believed that a person s character was determined by social status and heredity, and they try to determine any and all underlying forces that may influence the characters actions. Naturalist writers often write about taboo subjects, such as sexuality, but also many other subjects, such as Theodore Dreiser s Sister Carrie, which is about a young country girl who moves to the big city to follow her dream of making it big. Stephen Crane s The Open Boat is another example. His story is an autobiographical story about how he and three crew members survived a shipwreck. Other subjects often written about by naturalists are poverty, racism, violence, prejudice, disease, corruption, prostitution, and filth. Due to the topic they wrote about, critics often targeted naturalist writers for focusing too much on the darker side of human life. Literary naturalism is where the effect the environment has on the human characters is emphasized. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Of Religion In Sherman Alexie sThe Lone Ranger And Tonto... Religion is a controversial topic in modern society, whether it the topic of God existing or the fear of a certain religion and its followers. Regardless, in Sherman Alexie s The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fist Fight in Heaven, a book composed of numerous short stories, there is a story that clearly drives a connection between religion and the characters: Jesus Christ s Half Brother is Alive and Well on the Spokane Reservation. In this story, Alexie uses a biblical analogy to create the character James, a mysterious young boy who does not speak for much of his early life, to give an allusion of the Bible and James. Later, we see the unnamed narrator caring for James after his parent s death of a house fire, giving yet another allusion to the narrator and a follower of a religion. At the conclusion of the chapter, James muteness has gone away and begins to speak lessons that give the narrator meaning, alluding to the Bible once again. By using allusion throughout the chapter, Alexie gives us a hopeful future for the characters, much like religion gives a hopeful outlook towards the future for its followers. As stated earlier, James birth alludes to the birth of Christ, emphasizing that Christ and James are somewhat similar. Alexie did this to reference the birth of Jesus Christ and use this to develop the characters later in the story. In the chapter, the beginning stated; ...birth to a boy today and seeing how it was nearly Christmas...she kept telling everyone she was a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Positive Aspects Of Aging When it comes to aging, there are some positive aspects and negative aspects. The negative aspect of aging that I would want to avoid is having fragile bones, brittle hair and skin, and possible memory loss. The older a person gets the more their body tends to wear out and it becomes difficult to do activities because their body is not how it used to be. I would not want my bones to act and I wouldn t want a hunch back either. I feel like my life would be miserable if my skeletal system was in pain most of the time. Next, when an individual becomes older, their skin and hair becomes brittle and them being old, they cannot maintain it. My skin is already sensitive, so I can only imagine how it be when I get older. Seniors skin tend to look loose and gets very delicate. The older you get, skin tears more often than usually. To add, my hair is very important to me and I spend so much time on it. I know growing old can cause your hair to be fragile. Furthermore, memory loss is suffered from a lot of seniors and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The older one gets, the wiser they become. Also, when people get old, they are motivated about life and they are happy when they are surrounded by loved ones. Now once it comes to living longer, people can enjoy those positive aspects of being old age for a long time. I believe extended life can be a good thing because people can spend time with their loved ones a lot longer, people are able to accomplish more goals, and they can become accustom to the new generations life changes or influence them. There are those that passed away that left a trademark on this earth and if they were alive still they would continue with their amazing talents. It would be great if we can extend like indefinitely, just imagine the people that were so dear to your hearts never pass away. Yet, there are some consequence that are available because of extended life such as an increase in population and a high demand for senior care ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The springtime for athletics at Perry is shining time of the year filled with memorable performances and a few Far East Championships. With the weather dropping into the 30 s players are forced to enter the weight room for their training regiments. The work that is put in during the offseason when nobody is watching will play dividends on the field in February. This timeline should include a set weight routine for at least 3 times a week, as well as some type of skill development on the weekend. For preparation for the season I train by myself as well as with the JMSDF men s soccer team. said Lange. The winter time is to improve strength not necessarily skill development. • 7. Television Impact On The Television Industry The television industry is growing, with so many genres to explore, and varying age groups producers can target, there is always a show to watch. In western cultures the hours spent watching television has drastically increased with the television market opens up the potential of more variety. This escalation of television attraction has affected the way young people interact with each other. Television has transformed the concepts of identity and commonalities among peers. To understand whether this transformation is a good or bad, a study was done looking at the effects watching one show has on a group of people. The study included five people, three females, and two males, all of whom are currently watching The Vampire Dairies (TVD) based on the novels by L. J. Smith, starring Ian Somerhalder, Paul Welsey, and Nina Dobrev. Two females who had been watching it in the past but have sense ceased were also included in this study, in order to get the fuller picture. The accounts all shared how the experience of watching television among young adults at the Canadian Mennonite University has had a positive impact on their friendships. The first major theme I found during this study was the perception everyone had about what television meant to him or her and how that reflected how he or she defined community. No matter if it was the previews that caught their attention, or he or she had free time to spare, or him or he had heard from friends that it was a decent show, they ... • 9. Who I Am I Many obstacles in my life have made me who I am today. I was raised in West Portsmouth, Ohio, a small town built off football and family. Life in a small town seems to go by very slowly. It s all about what you make out of it. Certain events and certain people have influenced me in a way that has made me a better person. The character of one s self is built from all the hard times we go through in life, not always off of the easy ones. My father has had a major influence on me during the course of my life, thus far. My dad was in the Marine Corps before I was born. He was always strict with me with every aspect of my life and has always pushed me to be a better person. Growing up, I would see him get up early and come home late from work. He is a very hard working man and I hope I develop at least half of his working abilities. He has taught me the majority of what I know now. He is a very smart man and it s great to have a role model like that as my father. My mother always played a more studious role in my life. She graduated from Shawnee State University with a degree in nursing. She is a very smart woman and has always pushed me to get good grades and go to college. I could honestly say that I wouldn t have received half the good grades as I did if it wasn t for her always checking up and being there for me with my schooling. She s always had a job as well and she strives to make me a better person religiously and mentally day by day. The motivation she brings to me ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing A P and An Ounce of Cure Essay Comparing A P and An Ounce of Cure If a reader is given two short stories, two stories that are seemingly different on the surface, to read and compare and contrast, a surprising amount of similarities and differences can be found. Unless they deal with the same subject matter, most short stories aren t really related, until some analysis is done. The stories A P, by John Updike, and An Ounce of Cure, by Alice Munro, are very similar but very different. If only an ounce of prevention had been used, there wouldn t have been any of those horrible problems that arose. These two stories are also very different. The main difference is that Sammy takes less dramatic measures to resolve his problems than the girl in An Ounce of Cure. Sammy only quits his job. Since he is young and it is summer time, he shouldn t have any problems finding another job. The girl in An Ounce of Cure, however, takes far more drastic measures to solver her problems. She tries to kill herself, gets drunk, and endangers the lives of the two young children that she supposed to be watching. Another difference is that An Ounce of Cure has far less detail in it than in A P. An Ounce of Cure is much longer, but much more straightforward. It gives the story and a few extra details, but not many. On the other hand, A P Sammy gives vivid details of everything around him. He paints a very clear picture of the store, the young ladies, the other shoppers, and his every thought. Both main characters in these stories have very different attitudes towards everything. Sammy, in A P, is very self assured. He realizes that he may be making a mistake halfway through quitting his job, but goes through with it anyway. However, my aha moments included the topics: the volume of reading, matching students independent and instructional reading levels to appropriate texts, expert interventionist, matching intervention to the classroom curriculum, and group size. Volume of Reading I agree with Allington, the volume of reading is a critical component which supports the quantity of extensive reading, required to ensure struggling readers accuracy and fluency rates accelerate to develop proficient readers. Often the reading interventions focus on specific reading skills such as phonics, word recognition, fluency (speed), and etc. The research suggests the intervention time be dedicated to continuous reading versus using the majority of the time working on individual skills. Native American tribal music is a very important part of most Native Americans history, culture, and societies. Music is an extremely important role of Native American culture and history. Generally, it was one of the only methods that they had as a way to pass down traditions and their history from generation to generation. There wasn t very much documentation of their history until validation from English settlers, other than some archeological evidence of musical instruments and depictions of music that have been dated as far back as the 7th Century. There were typically two types of songs that the tribes would pass down, and they would be either public songs or private songs. Public songs were often historical, and could be retold into many different versions which often gave the songs different meanings. But the private songs were unchanged through the history and kept those tribes history/culture intact forever. There were primarily six different areas of music in the United States where different tribes resided. The main characteristics of all of these diverse areas were that they were based on singing and percussion. The vocalization of these tribes range from solos, chorales, unison, and multipart singing. To try to deny destiny, is both courageous yet, for some it is futile. Beowulf s most conflicting character is Grendel, throughout the story you may feel pity for him, and other times you feel hatred for him. Grendel live in a marshy swamp, and is a descendant of Cain, who killed his own blood brother, Abel, out of jealousy. To pay for this ultimate sin, Cain s whole clan was condemned to be outcasts. The apple does not fall far from the tree because Grendel also feels envy towards the people in Heorot for shunning him away, so he retaliates by killing people without feeling any type of remorse. In the beginning, times were peaceful in Heorot. There would often be banquets in the mead hall and warriors would celebrate their victories. It harrowed him to hear the din of the loud banquet, (Beowulf 43). Grendel was frustrated by all the noise the people made every single day. This may seem as an overreaction, but the reader must look at it from both sides. One can only wonder about the agony Grendel must have went through to hear the people who tormented him, have parties every single day and enjoy themselves. The challenging nature of class in contemporary society comes from the fact that there has never been an academic consensus the definition of class (due to the fact that class in its very nature is an abstract and subjective term). However, this essay will argue that class is an amalgamation of how individuals and the collective locate themselves, and the relational explanation of economic life chance as well as policy and politics. Business, Sustainability And The Natural Environment Business, Sustainability and the Natural Environment, Daniel Katz During the past 25 years, awareness of the environment has increased tremendously. Non profit organizations look beyond institutional goals, and instead, try to find a shared vision that works for everyone in the society. Our society needs to stop consuming as if we have an infinite planet; we have to have integrity for the world we live in because the natural resources that have been sustaining us will not last forever. Companies need to evolve with the modern age and changing consumer market. For example, Netflix never thought they would produce their own shows, however, with the changing consumer market, they have done just that. Also, NGO s sometimes have to partner with bigger for profit companies in order to target a larger consumer base, thus, solidifying the fact that the for profit and non profit sector have to team together in order to sustain the environment in which we inhabit. Business, Sustainability and Poverty, Jacqueline Novogratz This plenary begins by stating that a financial crisis occurs when people in the markets do not trust each other. Trust is what makes a society fair. Corruption flourishes upon weaknesses in economic, political, and social institutions, and this diverts economic growth by eroding the quality of public goods. (2007) [5]proposed a novel clustering associating algorithm, known as Energy Residue Aware (ERA)clustering algorithm, to prolong the lifetime of a sensor network by balancing the energy consumption of the entire network.ERA enables each sensor to associate its cluster head to find a path with maximum energy residue sum instead of a path with the minimum energy consumption as many energy efficient routing protocols have been proposed in sensor networks for different scenarios and various applications in literature. One of the efficient way is to group sensors in the neighbouring into clusters and send aggregate data by a designated cluster head. The Effects Of Drunk Driving On The Road Of Driving Oluwaseyi Isola Prof. Laura Baltuska English 101 015 29 November, 2016 Under the Influence Is Under Arrest What is one of the most evil and deadly acts? Drunk driving? Oh no! These two words together are uncordial behaviors. The crime of driving a vehicle or operating a motorized machine while under the influence of alcohol is totally against the law of the land, but some people still won t stop. Is there any gain in drunk driving than loss of lives, loss of driving privileges, and property vehicles? One third of traffic deaths involve alcohol impaired driving (MADD). Therefore, a behavior that involves a tiny proportion of drivers is one of the key causes of death on the roads. This is an indication that retaining the licenses of drivers involved in drunk driving is not enough to deter drunk driving because some people in this category are still driving even though their licenses have been suspended or revoked. For this reason, it is necessary to adopt more strict measures to deal with the problem. In particular, drunk driving can be prevented through the use of ignition interlock systems and sobriety checkpoints at an individual level while a school based instructional program can help to prevent the problem at a community level. To begin with, drunk driving is a serious menace to Americans on the road, as it contributes to a large number of traffic deaths and injuries. Whether a child making a point to their mother or a lawyer making a point to the jury, everybody, sometimes unknowingly, uses methods of persuasions and classical oration to make their point seem appealing, and to get other people to agree with them. In the movie, A Few Good Men, military lawyers Lt. Jack Ross and Lt. Daniel Kaffee, like any other lawyer, must persuade and convince the jury whether the defendant is innocent or guilty. Released in 1992, A Few Good Men, presents the story of Kaffee, who is trying to defend navy officers Dawson and Downey who were accused of murdering Santiago, a fellow navy soldier. Using the term Code Red, Kaffee insists that Dawson and Downey were only participating in a hazing like activity to Santiago after being ordered by their commander to toughen Santiago up. Ross, the prosecutor, states that Dawson and Downey had the intent to murder Santiago, as they killed him by shoving a poisoned rag down his throat. Although a difficult case, Lt. Kaffee makes an opening statement that is more compelling than the opening statement given by Lt. Ross by using certain methods of persuasion and a traditional approach to classical oration. In his opening statement, Kaffee defends his clients with the main idea that the two officers were only following orders, and had no intent to kill Santiago. Kaffee starts off in exordium and to win the attention of his audience he is informal and uses colloquialism. In the movie Kaffee appears to be fairly laid back and comfortable in his chair and says that any claim against his own just ain t true. Kaffee uses ethos here, by presenting his confidence with the topic, as he is so unworried by the opening statement previously given by Ross, and by using colloquium makes himself familiar with the audience. Instead of presenting a tough, stern, no feeling military man, Kaffe s actions and words showcases that he wants to relate more with the jury and connect with them as people, not as robotic military workers. Kaffee continues his argument with pathos, he appeals to the jury s sympathy by stating how these men had to follow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In September 1993 he traveled to the Baltic republics, the first papal visit to countries of the former Soviet Union. His journey to Lebanon in May 1997, to give his support to the Christian minority and to heal religious divisions there, was followed by a visit to Brazil in October. On a five day visit to Cuba in January 1998, he denounced U.S. trade sanctions against that country and pressed Fidel Castro s government to release political prisoners and ease restrictions on religious and political rights. He also pressed Nigeria on human rights issues during a three day visit two months later; while there, John Paul beatified a Nigerian priest. Emphasizing a central theme of John Paul s papacy, that of Jewish Christian reconciliation, the Vatican issued a statement in mid March apologizing to Jews for the Church s failure to take decisive action against Nazi Germany; the document received a mixed reception from Jewish groups, in part because it defended the actions of Pope Pius XII during the Holocaust. So he chose his own interests above the interests of the organization. The Federal Government as a representative of the United States had to act on behalf of all people who had an interest in this case, such as doctors or competitors in the same industry. Federal Government acted under the assumptions of the utilitarian approach. The utilitarian approach to ethical decision making says that the ethical choice is one that produces the greatest good for the greatest number (R.L. Daft D. Marcic, 2013). Assessment of the actions taken by Douglas Durand and the Federal Government According to Alex Storey (2009), in the old days, you were expected to be loyal or be fired. Daft D. Marcic, 2013). Because most people try to get the best for their own interest, there might be a great understanding for the behavior of Douglas Durand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
