Essay on Hector as the Ideal Homeric Man of Homer s Iliad
Hector as the Ideal Homeric Man of Homer s Iliad
Homer s Iliad enthralls readers with its valiant heroes who fight for the glory of Greece. The Iliad,
however, is not just a story of war; it is also a story of individuals. Through the characters words and
actions, Homer paints portraits of petulant Achilles and vain Agamemnon, doomed Paris and Helen,
loyal Patroclus, tragic Priam, versatile Odysseus, and the whole cast of Gods. Ironically, the most
complete character in the epic is Hector, enemy hero, and Prince of Troy. Hector is in many ways the
ideal Homeric man: he is a man of compassion and piety, a man of integrity and bravery, a man who
loves his family, and above all, a man who understands and fulfills his social ... Show more content on

Had Agamemnon demonstrated the same sort of compassion towards the supplicant Chryses, the
Greeks would have been spared the wrath of Apollo. Hector s compassion and his respect for the gods,
engenders the trust and respect of his people, and makes him an ideal leader.
Hector continues on to the palace, where he is embraced by his mother Hecuba, who offers him wine
with which to refresh himself and to honor the Gods. Hector politely answers, Mother, not now I d
lose my nerve for war. And I d be ashamed to pour a glistening cup to Zeus with unwashed hands. I m
splattered with blood and filth how could I pray to the lord of storm and lightning? (VI, 179 183). He
then recommends that his mother go with offerings to Athena s shrine to make sacrifices for the
success of the Trojans. Hector s respectful address to his mother, his humility before the Gods and his
understanding of the appropriate forms of supplication, stand in sharp contrast to Achilles earlier
whining and self serving demands made to Thetis. Once again, in the matter of piety as well as
compassion, Hector is the superior man.
Nowhere in the Iliad is Hector s superiority more obvious than when he is contrasted with his brother
Paris, the man who bears the sole responsibility for the chaos and terror that engulfs Troy. Hector finds
Paris polishing (and) fondling his splendid battle gear, his shield and breastplate, turning over and
over his long curved bow (VI, 243 245).

Retail Environmental Factors That Influence Consumer...
Introduction
Consumer buying behavior has became great interest to the marketing researches (Ali Hasnu 2013, p.
1). Understanding the consumer buying behavior unable the mall managers plan effective marketing
strategies. Researchers have identified number of different factors that influence consumer buying
behavior. Retail environmental factors is one of these factors. This literature review seeks to identify
the retail environmental factors that influence consumer buying behavior. The structure of this
literature review is as follows. Firstly, the review describes the search process for the relevant studies.
Following this, the review then explains the studies thematic analysis. Finally, the review provides an
overall discussion of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, a manual search was conducted in order to find other relevant studies and, from this
process, 2 studies was found relevant. Overall, 9 studies were included in this review.
Thematic analysis
After a process of individual analysis of the selected studies, the articles were grouped together
according to recurrent themes that emerged from the findings. In this literature review, three major
themes were identified which include; window displays, music and shop crowding.
Finding
Window displays
In relation to window display, three studies reported that there is a positive relationship between
consumers buying behavior and window display (Ali Hasnu 2013, Karbasivar Yarahmadi 2011 and
Tendai Crispen 2009). According to Ali Hasnu (2013, p.7) consumers buying decision is influenced by
the physical attractiveness of store displays. Consumers develop their first impressions by the store
displays which emotionally attract them to the product and buy that product (Ali Hasnu 2013, p.7).
Similarly, Tendai Crispen (2009, p. 107) reported that attractive window displays increases sales as
consumers purchase unplanned products. Moreover, the finding of Karbasivar Yarahmadi (2011) study
indicated that window display has strong effect on encouraging consumers to buying more and
enjoying their shopping time. In order to trigger shopping among consumers, store managers must
ensure attractive store displays (Ali Hasnu 2013, p. 7).

Lab Report Lava Flow
Title: How Lava Flows
Background: Viscosity is a liquid s resistance to flow. For example water would have a low viscosity
while syrup has high. The higher temperature the lower viscosity and the lower temperature the higher
viscosity. Cold syrup will move slower than hot syrup because the molecules are more tightly packed
together while hots are very loose and free. Silica will cause the syrups viscosity to increases, so the
more silica it has the more the viscosity will increase. If water is added to syrup the viscosity will
decrease because water has a lower viscosity. Gas can easily escape lava that has a low viscosity while
lava with higher viscosities, gas pressure will build up and might lead to big eruptions.

The lava flow was fast. An error was that the syrup was poured too fast and to much of it came out, so
it may have messed up the time. Viscosity is a liquid s resistance to flow. Velocity is the speed of
something in a given direction. The velocity for team cold was 2 cm/s. In the cold syrup the molecules
are tightly packed together. The viscosity of the is very high since it does not flow very fast. Therefore
it flowed the slowest. The velocity of the team rooms data was 3.7 cm/s. In the room temperature
syrup, the molecules are more loosely bonded. The viscosity of room temperature is less than the
colds. So it flowed a bit more faster then the colds. It flowed faster but not as fast as the hots. The
velocity for team hots data was 6.8 cm/s. In the hots syrup the molecules moved the most freely and
loose. This means since it was the hottest, it has the lowest viscosity so it was able to flow the fastest
out of all of the syrups.Silica affects viscosity because viscosity increases with more silica content,
more silica, more viscosity. Water can change the viscosity of lava. If water is added the viscosity will
decrease. Lava with low viscosity allows gas to escape easily while lava with a higher viscosity gas
pressure builds up and can lead to a huge

On Death And Dying Analysis
George Patton Jr once said that, It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should
thank God that such men lived. Mr.Patton realized that death is natural and inevitable, so he gives
thanks to God for the life that he, his friends and family have been dealt. At funerals, usually several
individuals are pain stricken and severely upset. These individuals have been conditioned to fear death
and to believe that death is something to run away from. Elizabeth Kubler Ross speaks about actually
tuning into the patients in order to figure out what their needs are. Mrs. Kubler Ross, in her novel, On
Death Dying uses a five step blueprint in order to describe the dying process effectively.
When my Pawpaw was in his late 60 s he started his journey to the end of his life. Unlike several
people, he never seemed to cling to false hope in order to comfort himself during his final transition.
During the denial stage, he was sent to multiple heart doctors. Each doctor gave him an estimate on
life and continually told him that he would not have much longer to live. Essentially, according to

Death is inescapable. Praise God for the life he has blessed his children with. In Elisabeth Kubler Ross
novel On Death Dying she effectively explains the dying process in five steps: denial, anger,
bargaining, depression and acceptance. The impact of her novel, if given the chance, on the medical
field would be tremendous in the attempt of allowing individuals to die with their dignity while also
remaining in peace throughout the majority of the process. In reality a funeral should not consist of
mourning over what is lost. A funeral should be a celebration of the life the individual was blessed
with and the impact they had on the people around them. Truly in the end, death is a blessing to those
that believe and a frightening silence to the many that do

Is The Flag Of The United States Of America Considered...
Could disrespecting the flag of the United States of America considered patriotic? It all depends on the
scenario. In the article Patriotism by Igor Primoratz, he mentions the philosophical study conducted by
Stephen Nathanson, who states patriotism is defined as Special affection for one s country , Special
concern for the well being of the country , and Willingness to sacrifice to promote the country s good.
These properties can be seen through a number of different scenarios including protests. Recently the
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick decided to protest recent police brutality towards
African Americans and minorities. During the first 49ers preseason games at first sitting in during the
National Anthem, later ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

endorsements... people are discussing it. This embodies what we are about. In the United States we are
entitled to our own beliefs and our ability to have a voice. Through the actions of the players voicing
their beliefs, the entire scenario has gained national attention. Colin Kaepernick s among other athletes
concern over this situation demonstrates their affection for this country in the hopes for improvement
of this country. Through his protests the entire country has engaged in debate his actions and the topic
he stands for.
A special concern for the well being of the country is an indication that one is patriotic. As the protests
expand across the National Football League and even into other sports, the attention that this topic is
getting increases exponentially. The Seattle Seahawks also raised attention to the topic, but through a
different form of protest. On the fifteenth anniversary of September 11, the team as a whole locked

How Dysphagia Is A Common Complication Of Dysphagia Essay
Introduction
Dysphagia is defined as a difficulty moving food from the mouth to the stomach. Dysphagia can come
and go or slowly worsen over time depending on the other disorders present. When a person has a
cerebrovascular accident (CVA), dysphasia can appear and later go away. If a progressive neurological
impairment is the cause of the dysphagia, the swallowing problems can worsen over time and never go
away (Logemann, 1998). Dysphagia is a commonly diagnosed for at least a short time after a CVA has
occurred and individuals are more likely to aspirate liquids with a lower viscosity (Murray et al.
2016). Increasing the viscosity, or thickening liquids, is a common strategy that individuals diagnosed
with dysphagia use as a compensatory strategy. Changing the viscosity of liquids by adding thickeners
helps keep the bolus together and slows down the rate of dispersion in the oral and pharyngeal
cavities. This helps the individual reduce their risk of aspirating when swallowing the liquid (Murray
et al., 2016). However, dehydration is a common complication of dysphagia. Hydration is a process of
maintaining a balance of water in the body. Half of our water intake is through drinking beverages
including water (Sharpe et al., 2007). The standard daily fluid intake for individuals is 1500 mL per
day. However, many individuals who are in acute care do not meet this daily standard (McGrail et al.,
2012). The lack of fluid intake in individuals can impact their

Analysis Of The Article City Limits On Racial Equality
Desegregation: 1968 1976
The article City Limits on Racial Equality: The Effects of City Suburb Boundaries on Public School
Desegregation by David R. James(1989), discusses people s perceptions while choosing schools on
the basis of racial mix in students population of school. It is argued that public schools have to apply
methods of desegregation to ensure proper racial mix in schools. White people from affluent families
try to avoid schools that have large populations of black students. Some families that are able to afford
living far from their work, also relocate to ensure that their children are not going to schools that have
high percentages of black students.
Private schools are not generally subject to strict rules for desegregation; rules applied to private
schools for this purpose are not generally implemented properly. On the other hand, public schools are
made to apply stricter rules. It is argued that for proper implementation of desegregation in public
schools, it is important to apply common desegregation programs throughout the whole district
schools. Recognizing these facts, plaintiffs in the 1974 Detroit case argued that Detroit School District
could not be successfully desegregated unless all public schools in the metropolitan area were subject
to a common desegregation order (p.page#). Courts of different districts have also pushed local
governments to apply such rules and standardize the procedure of admissions in schools, in order to
ensure that

The Importance Of Inequality In America
Freedom and equality are ideas this country has had for centuries that have evolved over time. In
1776, what Thomas Jefferson meant by all men are created equal , is that white males are dominant in
society, women are treated worse than men, and slaves treated worse than women. People that weren t
of the superior race/gender of a white male were typically treated as if they were less. Women and
African Americans aren t being treated as bad today, but they re still being treated worse than the
white males of society. Today, even though white males are typically the leaders of society, it s not
always race and gender that create inequality; sometimes it s money that creates the issue. But it
usually ends up being problematic due to race, gender, and/or religion. Not only from past evidence,
but from present evidence as well, America shows signs of inequality by the way people are taught
differently in different schools due to income and by the often occurring shootings, riots, and police
brutality incidents happening on a national scale. Although people are treated unequally in most
situations and places, America is still equal in some situations. Those moments just go unnoticed due
to the vast amount of inequality that one sees every day of their life. First off, throughout America s
history, there has been a multitude of events and occurrences that have led to the conclusion that
people are being treated differently at different schools. Something that can

Reflection Paper On Self-Evaluation
Self evaluation builds on a natural tendency to check out the progress of one s own learning and to
improve. Being a foreign medical graduate, and a stay at home mom for the last 17 years, I felt
nervous around my colleagues who are professionals and experts in their fields due to years of
experience that I felt I did not yet have. This paper discusses peer feedback and self assessment based
on multiple negotiation exercises performed by me during the on campus visit of summer, 2017. For

colleagues picked in me and I am proud of it. This is because I am a good listener and my team felt
that their concerns are being heard which allowed them to believe in my proposals. This strategy
helped me in my role as Brook the Chief Legal Counsel, SWE, Sales Manager, and Lennon in
negotiation exercises Fastkin, New Media Web Design and Geben Robotics respectively. My
colleagues have mentioned my ability to look at the whole picture as my strength to which I agree. I

and try to stay away from false conflicts or illusory effects. I think that zero sum is a negative
perception and it is often possible for people to gain, especially if they collaborate. I often use this
technique at home with my children and spouse. If a negotiation turns to a conflict and becomes
personal, the sense of fair play (or even getting what I need) then goes out of the window. I had a

The Issue of Poverty As a Whole in Pakistan
Poverty and suffering is considered not out of the norm for many families in Pakistan. Many of them
have had to make enormous sacrifices in order to survive in these hard times. As seen in the previous
paragraph children who are to sacrifice their education to help the family during times of poverty, may
never really be able to receive an education later. For most families that are in the same situation like
Rafiq and his family, the basic necessities such as food and water that others take for granted are now
considered the highest priority in their lives. Though native born families are the ones who suffer the
most in poverty in Pakistan, there are also outsiders who suffer just as much. One example is the
children of Afghan refugees from Afghanistan. During the Afghan War, many families in that region
have been separated or killed during battles and abductions conducted by the terrorist group Al Qaeda.
This group has threatened almost virtually everyone in the country that if they don t listen and obey
their rules, they will have them executed or tortured. Thus, many families have packed their
belongings and have made long treks out of the war torn nation. Once, they come into Pakistan, they
expect their experience to be better than the one in Afghanistan. And to a certain extent, some of that
may be true. However, once they become integrated in the society, they realize that it is very hard to
find a place to work.
Afghan children are also put in the same situation

There were wires coming out of holes in the walls and there wasn t any Internet connection except for

Trailers are important to films for a number of reasons. They promote a film and present it to the
target audience, in order to encourage them to watch the film. Trailers also give the audience
expectations of the film. The audience like to know what to expect of a film before they go and see it.
The audience is given a taste of the story and the basic plot. This is done by showing an array of clips

Mobile Media and Mobile Privatization As the growth of the society, mobile media continued to
develop the mass media. Social media has grown a new sense of mobile privatization, which has
brought a more intensified community involvement. Social network itself can be defined as the
expansion of the users circle through a more advanced technology. This paper is going to use the
concept of mobile privatization and flow 2.0 to discuss the similarities and the differences between the
citizen band ratio and smartphone.
CB radio is a two way radio system that opens to the citizens used to get communication with the

either on communications technologies whose content can be quantified or textually interpreted or on
the ownership and distribution networks of corporate industry giants said to dominate media

Reflection About Family
For this project I spoke with three people who I think have really defined my life thus far. These
people are my dad, my dad s mom Maw Maw, and my mom s mom Nonnie. In interviewing Dad, I
realize that I got my determination and drive to succeed from him. He works his regular job, but also
works multiple side jobs every week. He shared with me that him and Mom had struggled a great deal,
and had my grandparents not helped out he wasn t sure that they would have made it. He has always
been so adamant about me getting a good education so that this would never be the case for me. From
talking with Maw Maw, I learned more about our family history. I found out that our family resided in

I live in the more rural side which is dominated by conservative, Christian views. My family brought
me up in this way, but they always made sure I understood what I was being taught and that I believed
it on my own. I was always surrounded by people who believed that same as I do, so moving to
college was a bit of a culture shock, but it has been helpful to see new perspectives and converse with
many different people. My upbringing has also affected the holidays we celebrate. Christmas and
Easter have always been really big holidays for us because of our religious beliefs. These are
definitely my favorite holidays because of the meanings behind them and the time we all get to spend
together. More big celebrations in our family include birthdays. Maw Maw leaves birthday
decorations up in her basement year round because we celebrate at least one person s birthday a
month. The main concept behind all our holiday celebrations is just coming together as a family
because this is so important to us. While my family has shaped by life the most, there have also been
major events in my life that have shaped it as well. When I asked my dad what event he thought had
impacted our family the most he said, Mom s wreck, and I couldn t agree more. In 2014 my mom got
into a car accident where she broke her foot, tore ligaments in both her knees, broke a few ribs, and
hurt her back. She had to undergo multiple surgeries, and as a hairdresser, could no longer stand on

Puerto Rican Experience in Hartford Essay
Puerto Rican Experience in Hartford
Hartford is the home to the highest percentage (27%) of Puerto Ricans in the country (Cruz, 5).
Nonetheless, Puerto Ricans still face myriad challenges with respect to the integration and acceptance
of their culture in Hartford. Although the PR community is only two generations old, Puerto Ricans
have managed to both organize and mobilize in this relatively short time (Cruz, 2). Puerto Ricans have
focused closely on their ethnic identity because they viewed their incorporation into the political
sphere occurring only by means of asserting their difference (Cruz, 10). They have made their mark on
politics in Hartford through demographic growth, development of leadership in the community, and

I relate each component with a historical event in Puerto Rican politics and also consider how through
this historic mobilization Puerto Ricans have gained entitlement to more power, equality,
representation, consciousness from other ethnic groups, and to some degree, social change. I focus on
the Puerto Ricans migration to Connecticut, their development of ethnic awareness and power
awareness, their realization of common interests, their competing ethnic projects, and the brokered
representation they have endured as detailed in Jose Cruz s book, Identity and Power: Puerto Rican
Politics and the Challenge of Ethnicity. Finally, I examine an important point that Cruz only touched
upon briefly, which is the idea of cultural citizenship in the Puerto Rican community. This added point
helps us to fully understand the role identity politics played in Puerto Ricans lives.
Puerto Ricans first entered the realm of identity politics with their migration to Hartford, beginning in
the 1950s. Their motivation was primarily economic; that is, Hartford had an abundance of job
opportunities in restaurants, stores, factories, and farms in comparison to New York City and Puerto
Rico (Cruz, 37). Puerto Ricans were now working and living alongside many other citizens of
different ethnicities and were treated much like other

Generally, the writing of this report was easy to follow and was structured in a way in which it told a

ejection of fluids in the African bombardier beetle. It was slightly more informative rather than
scientific even though the article included many scientific terms. Nonetheless, the report had various
amounts of details throughout the experiment. For example, on page 2 the author states Photos

Theme Of Good And Evil In Beowulf
The story of Beowulf is an epic story of good vs. evil, living vs. death and the epic characteristic that
is portrayed in main characters in their adventure/ quest. The story demonstrates Grendel as an evil
and powerful being that enjoys killing, however, the story brings up the context that good will defeat
evil which is the role of Beowulf who is the hero in the story. Beowulf can be described as a leader
and a human that has the strength of 30 men, as he goes on his journey he ll faces many obstacles of
living vs. death when he fight s in battles and time to time symbolism is used to describe good vs. evil,
which can be seen as Grendel symbolize as evil and Beowulf as good. Seeing that many examples in
the story can be interpreted in two theme and characters showing epic characteristic, the two image in
the project will be Beowulf s giving his speech which gives the theme life vs. death and good vs. evil
will be the battle of Grendel mother vs. Beowulf The first panel will be Beowulf giving his speech to
Hrothgar, in his speech he quoted No, I expect no danes will fret about sewing our shrouds, if he win,
and death does take me send the hammered mail of my armor to Hrethel, and he from Wayland. Fate
will unwind as it must! when Beowulf brings up the shrouds it symbolizes the death that can be his
possible fate which, brings Beowulf epic hero characteristic that a hero must be brave and determined

Thermophysical Properties Of Nanofluids
Heat transfer fluids (HTFs) has diversified applications such as chemical processing, concentrated
solar power, HVAC system, pharmaceutical processing, plastics processing, system maintenance, and
geothermal plant, etc. Enhancing thermophysical properties of HTFs by dispersing nanoparticles on
the base fluid which is called nanofluids was first investigated by Choi [1], and nanofluids already
have shown heat transfer enhancement [2]. The concept of nanofluids can be applied for other HTFs.
Ionic liquids (ILs) based nanofluids where the base fluids are ionic liquids is potential candidate for

Types Of Transport Within A Cell
There are many different types of transport within a cell that can end up being very complex. On the
outside of the cell is the plasma membrane that protects it from the outside environment. The plasma
membrane is very picky about what it allows through it. It wants to let in oxygen and nutrients, but
keep out harmful bacteria. It also wants to keep in the proteins and nutrients that are already in the
membrane. Because of this property, the plasma membrane is called a selectively permeable
membrane and it has two basic transport processes. In passive transport processes it is the
concentration differences that drives the movement. The two passive transports are diffusion and
filtration. In active transport processes the cell provides energy in the form of Adenosine Triphosphate
(ATP) to power the process. The two active transport processes are primary which is driven directly by
ATP or secondary which is driven indirectly by ATP (Marieb P61). For the most part, molecules will
diffuse passively through the plasma membrane if they are small enough, but they must be aided by a
concentration gradient. A concentration gradient is when there is a difference in concentration of a
substance from one area to another (Amerman P75). This property of the plasma membrane is critical
to the cell. Without this property the cell would not be able to exchange the oxygen and nutrients it
needs to with the extracellular fluid (the fluid located in the spaces between the cells). The

Comparing Pride In Othello And Oedipus The King
Tragedies that befall a true hero in a play sometimes are caused by that person s pride. Oedipus and
Othello show readers the true character of being a tragic hero and show how pride can lead to
devastating consequences. Pride s effect on individuals can be subtle from the start, and more often
than not will manifest itself fully when that person realizes, from their actions, the consequences of
being prideful. Sophocles and Shakespeare both write about prideful men in their plays Oedipus Rex
and The Tragedy of Othello. The prideful actions each man takes, which they believe to be noble,
causes their lives and the lives of the people around them to be ruined by tragedy. From these tragic
tales, we can compare the way each man rose to power, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Othello also goes through change; from a man who constantly is aware of how reputation dictates a
man position in society to a man full of shame from losing said reputation because of the terrible
actions he takes in a fit of rage. Othello s change was mainly due to him listening to the lies Iago told
about Desdemona and Cassio. Othello had no idea that, his so called friend and compatriot, was a
villainous person capable of lying to him. He believed Iago so much that he lost all self control and
committed a horrible act. Unlike Oedipus, Othello could have chosen his own fate. He was not bound
by any gods will and could have inquired more about the so called truths Iago was telling him about
his wife, but by listening to Iago, and like Oedipus, he also loses those things most important to him.
First, he loses his love Desdemona by suffocating her. Even though he was her killer, they both shared
a love that she wanted to save; and from her deathbed, she forgave him by lying about who was her
killer. When asked by Emilia, O, who hath done this deed (1535), Desdemona replies, Nobody I
myself (1535). The second loss to Othello, like Oedipus, was his reputation and position in society.
Since the truth about Desdemona s death was known, Othello was stripped

Comparing Beowulf And Dante s Inferno
A hero from classical Greek mythology and ancient Greek history can be defined as A man (or occas.
a woman) of superhuman strength, courage, or ability, favored by the gods; especially regarded as
semi divine and immortal, and a Christian is defined as Believing, professing, or belonging to the
religion of Christ. To be a Christian hero, one must derive from both these characteristics and live life
through them. Beowulf and Dante from there different stories comparably does this. They both can be
looked as great heroes in each story, but one shows there God given faith and abilities more. Through
being a hero through Christ, undying faithfulness towards the lord, and being regarded as immortal
through god s protection, Beowulf is the better example of a Christian hero.
A major attribute of a Christian hero is being a hero through Christ. Beowulf never lets his glorious
triumphs go unannounced without attributing his blessing to god. He sees god as the reason he is great
and never misses a chance to profess it. Even after Beowulf defeated Grendel in battle, Beowulf gave

Essay on Hectoras the Ideal Homeric Man of Homer s Iliad Hector as the Ideal Homeric Man of Homer s Iliad Homer s Iliad enthralls readers with its valiant heroes who fight for the glory of Greece. The Iliad, however, is not just a story of war; it is also a story of individuals. Through the characters words and actions, Homer paints portraits of petulant Achilles and vain Agamemnon, doomed Paris and Helen, loyal Patroclus, tragic Priam, versatile Odysseus, and the whole cast of Gods. Ironically, the most complete character in the epic is Hector, enemy hero, and Prince of Troy. Hector is in many ways the ideal Homeric man: he is a man of compassion and piety, a man of integrity and bravery, a man who loves his family, and above all, a man who understands and fulfills his social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Had Agamemnon demonstrated the same sort of compassion towards the supplicant Chryses, the Greeks would have been spared the wrath of Apollo. Hector s compassion and his respect for the gods, engenders the trust and respect of his people, and makes him an ideal leader. Hector continues on to the palace, where he is embraced by his mother Hecuba, who offers him wine with which to refresh himself and to honor the Gods. Hector politely answers, Mother, not now I d lose my nerve for war. And I d be ashamed to pour a glistening cup to Zeus with unwashed hands. I m splattered with blood and filth how could I pray to the lord of storm and lightning? (VI, 179 183). He then recommends that his mother go with offerings to Athena s shrine to make sacrifices for the success of the Trojans. Hector s respectful address to his mother, his humility before the Gods and his understanding of the appropriate forms of supplication, stand in sharp contrast to Achilles earlier whining and self serving demands made to Thetis. Once again, in the matter of piety as well as compassion, Hector is the superior man. Nowhere in the Iliad is Hector s superiority more obvious than when he is contrasted with his brother Paris, the man who bears the sole responsibility for the chaos and terror that engulfs Troy. Hector finds Paris polishing (and) fondling his splendid battle gear, his shield and breastplate, turning over and over his long curved bow (VI, 243 245). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Finding Window displays In relation to window display, three studies reported that there is a positive relationship between consumers buying behavior and window display (Ali Hasnu 2013, Karbasivar Yarahmadi 2011 and Tendai Crispen 2009). According to Ali Hasnu (2013, p.7) consumers buying decision is influenced by the physical attractiveness of store displays. Consumers develop their first impressions by the store displays which emotionally attract them to the product and buy that product (Ali Hasnu 2013, p.7). Similarly, Tendai Crispen (2009, p. 107) reported that attractive window displays increases sales as consumers purchase unplanned products. Moreover, the finding of Karbasivar Yarahmadi (2011) study indicated that window display has strong effect on encouraging consumers to buying more and enjoying their shopping time. In order to trigger shopping among consumers, store managers must ensure attractive store displays (Ali Hasnu 2013, p. 7). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lab Report LavaFlow Title: How Lava Flows Background: Viscosity is a liquid s resistance to flow. For example water would have a low viscosity while syrup has high. The higher temperature the lower viscosity and the lower temperature the higher viscosity. Cold syrup will move slower than hot syrup because the molecules are more tightly packed together while hots are very loose and free. Silica will cause the syrups viscosity to increases, so the more silica it has the more the viscosity will increase. If water is added to syrup the viscosity will decrease because water has a lower viscosity. Gas can easily escape lava that has a low viscosity while lava with higher viscosities, gas pressure will build up and might lead to big eruptions. Pre Lab Questions: 30 ... Viscosity is a liquid s resistance to flow. Velocity is the speed of something in a given direction. The velocity for team cold was 2 cm/s. In the cold syrup the molecules are tightly packed together. The viscosity of the is very high since it does not flow very fast. Therefore it flowed the slowest. The velocity of the team rooms data was 3.7 cm/s. In the room temperature syrup, the molecules are more loosely bonded. The viscosity of room temperature is less than the colds. So it flowed a bit more faster then the colds. It flowed faster but not as fast as the hots. The velocity for team hots data was 6.8 cm/s. In the hots syrup the molecules moved the most freely and loose. This means since it was the hottest, it has the lowest viscosity so it was able to flow the fastest out of all of the syrups.Silica affects viscosity because viscosity increases with more silica content, more silica, more viscosity. On Death AndDying Analysis George Patton Jr once said that, It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived. Mr.Patton realized that death is natural and inevitable, so he gives thanks to God for the life that he, his friends and family have been dealt. At funerals, usually several individuals are pain stricken and severely upset. These individuals have been conditioned to fear death and to believe that death is something to run away from. The impact of her novel, if given the chance, on the medical field would be tremendous in the attempt of allowing individuals to die with their dignity while also remaining in peace throughout the majority of the process. In reality a funeral should not consist of mourning over what is lost. A funeral should be a celebration of the life the individual was blessed with and the impact they had on the people around them. Truly in the end, death is a blessing to those that believe and a frightening silence to the many that do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Epiglottis Respiratory System Thefood then travels through the pharynx, throat, which is a funnel shape tube connected to the back of the mouth. It passes the food from the mouth to the esophagus. The pharynx has 2 different functions and is also apart of the respiratory system. It has a large piece of cartilage, epiglottis. When swallowing, the epiglottis folds down over the larynx. If there were no epiglottis, the food would travel through the larynx, the windpipe. After passing through the pharynx, the bolus then travels to the esophagus. It is a soft muscular tube that attaches the pharynx to the stomach. It carries the bolus along its distance. Is The FlagOf The United States Of America Considered... Could disrespecting the flag of the United States of America considered patriotic? It all depends on the scenario. In the article Patriotism by Igor Primoratz, he mentions the philosophical study conducted by Stephen Nathanson, who states patriotism is defined as Special affection for one s country , Special concern for the well being of the country , and Willingness to sacrifice to promote the country s good. These properties can be seen through a number of different scenarios including protests. Recently the San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick decided to protest recent police brutality towards African Americans and minorities. During the first 49ers preseason games at first sitting in during the National Anthem, later ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While discussing the success of the demonstrations in the Speak for Yourself radio show, Fox Sports sports commentator, Colin Cowherd explained I believe this entire thing, has been successful. He protests, there is pushback. He is booed, he is cheered. Some players followed, lost their endorsements... people are discussing it. This embodies what we are about. In the United States we are entitled to our own beliefs and our ability to have a voice. Through the actions of the players voicing their beliefs, the entire scenario has gained national attention. Colin Kaepernick s among other athletes concern over this situation demonstrates their affection for this country in the hopes for improvement of this country. Through his protests the entire country has engaged in debate his actions and the topic he stands for. A special concern for the well being of the country is an indication that one is patriotic. As the protests expand across the National Football League and even into other sports, the attention that this topic is getting increases exponentially. The Seattle Seahawks also raised attention to the topic, but through a different form of protest. On the fifteenth anniversary of September 11, the team as a whole locked arms during the playing of the National Anthem as a demonstration of racial unity. How Dysphagia IsA Common Complication Of Dysphagia Essay Introduction Dysphagia is defined as a difficulty moving food from the mouth to the stomach. Dysphagia can come and go or slowly worsen over time depending on the other disorders present. When a person has a cerebrovascular accident (CVA), dysphasia can appear and later go away. If a progressive neurological impairment is the cause of the dysphagia, the swallowing problems can worsen over time and never go away (Logemann, 1998). Dysphagia is a commonly diagnosed for at least a short time after a CVA has occurred and individuals are more likely to aspirate liquids with a lower viscosity (Murray et al. 2016). Increasing the viscosity, or thickening liquids, is a common strategy that individuals diagnosed with dysphagia use as a compensatory strategy. Changing the viscosity of liquids by adding thickeners helps keep the bolus together and slows down the rate of dispersion in the oral and pharyngeal cavities. This helps the individual reduce their risk of aspirating when swallowing the liquid (Murray et al., 2016). However, dehydration is a common complication of dysphagia. Hydration is a process of maintaining a balance of water in the body. Half of our water intake is through drinking beverages including water (Sharpe et al., 2007). The standard daily fluid intake for individuals is 1500 mL per day. However, many individuals who are in acute care do not meet this daily standard (McGrail et al., 2012). The lack of fluid intake in individuals can impact their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of TheArticle City Limits On Racial Equality Desegregation: 1968 1976 The article City Limits on Racial Equality: The Effects of City Suburb Boundaries on Public School Desegregation by David R. James(1989), discusses people s perceptions while choosing schools on the basis of racial mix in students population of school. It is argued that public schools have to apply methods of desegregation to ensure proper racial mix in schools. White people from affluent families try to avoid schools that have large populations of black students. Some families that are able to afford living far from their work, also relocate to ensure that their children are not going to schools that have high percentages of black students. Private schools are not generally subject to strict rules for desegregation; rules applied to private schools for this purpose are not generally implemented properly. On the other hand, public schools are made to apply stricter rules. It is argued that for proper implementation of desegregation in public schools, it is important to apply common desegregation programs throughout the whole district schools. Recognizing these facts, plaintiffs in the 1974 Detroit case argued that Detroit School District could not be successfully desegregated unless all public schools in the metropolitan area were subject to a common desegregation order (p.page#). Courts of different districts have also pushed local governments to apply such rules and standardize the procedure of admissions in schools, in order to ensure that ... The Importance OfInequality In America Freedom and equality are ideas this country has had for centuries that have evolved over time. In 1776, what Thomas Jefferson meant by all men are created equal , is that white males are dominant in society, women are treated worse than men, and slaves treated worse than women. People that weren t of the superior race/gender of a white male were typically treated as if they were less. Women and African Americans aren t being treated as bad today, but they re still being treated worse than the white males of society. Today, even though white males are typically the leaders of society, it s not always race and gender that create inequality; sometimes it s money that creates the issue. But it usually ends up being problematic due to race, gender, and/or religion. Not only from past evidence, but from present evidence as well, America shows signs of inequality by the way people are taught differently in different schools due to income and by the often occurring shootings, riots, and police brutality incidents happening on a national scale. Although people are treated unequally in most situations and places, America is still equal in some situations. Those moments just go unnoticed due to the vast amount of inequality that one sees every day of their life. First off, throughout America s history, there has been a multitude of events and occurrences that have led to the conclusion that people are being treated differently at different schools. Something that can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Being a foreign medical graduate, and a stay at home mom for the last 17 years, I felt nervous around my colleagues who are professionals and experts in their fields due to years of experience that I felt I did not yet have. This paper discusses peer feedback and self assessment based on multiple negotiation exercises performed by me during the on campus visit of summer, 2017. For example, I have realized that it is essential to not only know my opponent, but to also know myself. Trustworthiness is a good strategy that my colleagues picked in me and I am proud of it. The Issue ofPoverty As a Whole in Pakistan Poverty and suffering is considered not out of the norm for many families in Pakistan. Many of them have had to make enormous sacrifices in order to survive in these hard times. As seen in the previous paragraph children who are to sacrifice their education to help the family during times of poverty, may never really be able to receive an education later. For most families that are in the same situation like Rafiq and his family, the basic necessities such as food and water that others take for granted are now considered the highest priority in their lives. Though native born families are the ones who suffer the most in poverty in Pakistan, there are also outsiders who suffer just as much. One example is the children of Afghan refugees from Afghanistan. During the Afghan War, many families in that region have been separated or killed during battles and abductions conducted by the terrorist group Al Qaeda. This group has threatened almost virtually everyone in the country that if they don t listen and obey their rules, they will have them executed or tortured. Thus, many families have packed their belongings and have made long treks out of the war torn nation. Once, they come into Pakistan, they expect their experience to be better than the one in Afghanistan. And to a certain extent, some of that may be true. However, once they become integrated in the society, they realize that it is very hard to find a place to work. Afghan children are also put in the same situation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They promote a film and present it to the target audience, in order to encourage them to watch the film. Trailers also give the audience expectations of the film. The audience like to know what to expect of a film before they go and see it. The audience is given a taste of the story and the basic plot. This is done by showing an array of clips that are edited to a certain degree. The trailer normally ends with a cliff hanger . Please include both general and specific comments regarding the report s strengths and weaknesses, and emphasize your most significant points. General comments include (1) scientific soundness, (2) originality (if the research is an enhancement of an existing experiment or finding, please comment on the originality of the improved sections usually in the discussions section they will state if they have done this), (3) degree to which conclusions are supported by the data, (4) appropriateness of the methods, (5) organization and clarity, (6) cohesiveness of argument, (7) length relative to the number of ideas and information, and (8) conciseness and writing style. First and foremost, the report includes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be seen on page three paragraph four when the authors state that Other bombardier beetles related to Stenaptinus (subfamily Brachininae), such as those of the large genus Brachinus, probably aim their spray in much the same manner as Stenaptinus. Indeed, we found the abdominal tip of Brachinus to resemble that of Stenaptinus in every structural detail. 2. Presentation. Does the article tell a cohesive story? Is a tightly reasoned argument evident throughout the report? Where does the report wander from its argument? Do the title, abstract, key words, introduction, and conclusions accurately and consistently reflect the major point(s) of the report? Is the writing concise, easy to follow, and interesting? Generally, the writing of this report was easy to follow and was structured in a way in which it told a unified story. However, it was sort of difficult to identify what exactly was the purpose of the experiment. I believe the report was focused mainly on exploring the function and structure of the ejection of fluids in the African bombardier beetle. It was slightly more informative rather than scientific even though the article included many scientific terms. Nonetheless, the report had various amounts of details throughout the experiment. For example, on page 2 the author states Photos (Kodachrome 25 PKM 135 film, Kodak) were taken with 35 mm cameras (Fig. 1), and with a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Theme Of GoodAnd Evil In Beowulf The story of Beowulf is an epic story of good vs. evil, living vs. death and the epic characteristic that is portrayed in main characters in their adventure/ quest. The story demonstrates Grendel as an evil and powerful being that enjoys killing, however, the story brings up the context that good will defeat evil which is the role of Beowulf who is the hero in the story. Beowulf can be described as a leader and a human that has the strength of 30 men, as he goes on his journey he ll faces many obstacles of living vs. death when he fight s in battles and time to time symbolism is used to describe good vs. evil, which can be seen as Grendel symbolize as evil and Beowulf as good. Seeing that many examples in the story can be interpreted in two theme and characters showing epic characteristic, the two image in the project will be Beowulf s giving his speech which gives the theme life vs. death and good vs. evil will be the battle of Grendel mother vs. Beowulf The first panel will be Beowulf giving his speech to Hrothgar, in his speech he quoted No, I expect no danes will fret about sewing our shrouds, if he win, and death does take me send the hammered mail of my armor to Hrethel, and he from Wayland. Fate will unwind as it must! when Beowulf brings up the shrouds it symbolizes the death that can be his possible fate which, brings Beowulf epic hero characteristic that a hero must be brave and determined to face a battle or conflicted in their path because it is their fate ... Thermophysical Properties OfNanofluids Heat transfer fluids (HTFs) has diversified applications such as chemical processing, concentrated solar power, HVAC system, pharmaceutical processing, plastics processing, system maintenance, and geothermal plant, etc. Enhancing thermophysical properties of HTFs by dispersing nanoparticles on the base fluid which is called nanofluids was first investigated by Choi [1], and nanofluids already have shown heat transfer enhancement [2]. The concept of nanofluids can be applied for other HTFs. Ionic liquids (ILs) based nanofluids where the base fluids are ionic liquids is potential candidate for next generation HTFs and storage medium [3]. ILs are the organic salts which are liquid at room temperature and have suitable thermophysical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Paul et al. [10 11] experimentally investigated the forced and natural convection heat transfer behavior of nanoparticle enhanced ionic liquids (NEILs). They stated that forced convection heat transfer coefficient increases with nanoparticle concentration and natural convection heat transfer deteriorated with nanoparticle concentration. The enhancement of heat transfer coefficient under forced convection of water based nanofluids was reported by other researchers, where experiments were carried out for Al2O3 water nanofluids at laminar [12 14] and turbulent [15] flow regime. Wen et al. [12] have performed the forced convection study with constant heat flux flow through the copper tube under laminar flow region and reported up to ~47% enhanced heat transfer of 1.6 vol% Al2O3 water nanofluids. They also found that the heat transfer behavior could not predict the conventional Shah s equation [16]. Lai et al. [13] investigated forced convection of Al2O3 water nanofluids in a 1.02mm diameter tube under constant heat flux condition and reported enhanced heat transfer coefficient of nanofluids. Heris et al. [14] reported enhanced heat transfer coefficient of Al2O3 water nanofluids performing forced convection in a circular tube with the constant temperature boundary condition. Types Of TransportWithin A Cell There are many different types of transport within a cell that can end up being very complex. On the outside of the cell is the plasma membrane that protects it from the outside environment. The plasma membrane is very picky about what it allows through it. It wants to let in oxygen and nutrients, but keep out harmful bacteria. It also wants to keep in the proteins and nutrients that are already in the membrane. Because of this property, the plasma membrane is called a selectively permeable membrane and it has two basic transport processes. In passive transport processes it is the concentration differences that drives the movement. The two passive transports are diffusion and filtration. In active transport processes the cell provides energy in the form of Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) to power the process. The two active transport processes are primary which is driven directly by ATP or secondary which is driven indirectly by ATP (Marieb P61). For the most part, molecules will diffuse passively through the plasma membrane if they are small enough, but they must be aided by a concentration gradient. A concentration gradient is when there is a difference in concentration of a substance from one area to another (Amerman P75). This property of the plasma membrane is critical to the cell. Without this property the cell would not be able to exchange the oxygen and nutrients it needs to with the extracellular fluid (the fluid located in the spaces between the cells). The ... Comparing Pride InOthello And Oedipus The King Tragedies that befall a true hero in a play sometimes are caused by that person s pride. Oedipus and Othello show readers the true character of being a tragic hero and show how pride can lead to devastating consequences. Pride s effect on individuals can be subtle from the start, and more often than not will manifest itself fully when that person realizes, from their actions, the consequences of being prideful. Sophocles and Shakespeare both write about prideful men in their plays Oedipus Rex and The Tragedy of Othello. The prideful actions each man takes, which they believe to be noble, causes their lives and the lives of the people around them to be ruined by tragedy. From these tragic tales, we can compare the way each man rose to power, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Othello also goes through change; from a man who constantly is aware of how reputation dictates a man position in society to a man full of shame from losing said reputation because of the terrible actions he takes in a fit of rage. Othello s change was mainly due to him listening to the lies Iago told about Desdemona and Cassio. Othello had no idea that, his so called friend and compatriot, was a villainous person capable of lying to him. He believed Iago so much that he lost all self control and committed a horrible act. Unlike Oedipus, Othello could have chosen his own fate. He was not bound by any gods will and could have inquired more about the so called truths Iago was telling him about his wife, but by listening to Iago, and like Oedipus, he also loses those things most important to him. First, he loses his love Desdemona by suffocating her. Even though he was her killer, they both shared a love that she wanted to save; and from her deathbed, she forgave him by lying about who was her killer. When asked by Emilia, O, who hath done this deed (1535), Desdemona replies, Nobody I myself (1535). The second loss to Othello, like Oedipus, was his reputation and position in society. Since the truth about Desdemona s death was known, Othello was stripped ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Parkinson Disease CaseStudy Other cognitive conditions: Amnesia and delirium. This can affect interaction and communication as cognitive conditions can cause disorientation, misinterpretation of information, variations in lucidity, the loss of speech, memory loss and the ability to recall information/memories. Medical conditions: Parkinson s disease is an example of a medical condition that can affect communication and interaction. Parkinson disease is a degenerative, progressive disorder that affects nerve cells in deep parts of the brain. The disease can affect the entire body causing muscular spasms and its progression can leave individuals without the ability to move their entire body. It affects communication and interaction as symptoms can include impaired speech, soft speech and voice box spasms. Parkinson s causes muscular stiffness, causing ... Environmental factors: This includes loud noise and too many people etc. This can affect interaction and communication as individual s may not be comfortable around loud noise and become distressed or upset. It may be hard to hear what others are saying when there is loud noise so individuals will not understand what it being said and therefore won t be able to provide a response. Fears: If an individual receiving care has a prior worry of the treatment they might receive when care is provided they may isolate themselves away from the care providers and refuse to communicate with them. Fears are not irrational and are extremely valid, it s the care workers duty to work with and reassure the individual. This may eliminate their fear and allow for effective communication to take ... Comparing Beowulf AndDante s Inferno A hero from classical Greek mythology and ancient Greek history can be defined as A man (or occas. a woman) of superhuman strength, courage, or ability, favored by the gods; especially regarded as semi divine and immortal, and a Christian is defined as Believing, professing, or belonging to the religion of Christ. To be a Christian hero, one must derive from both these characteristics and live life through them. Beowulf and Dante from there different stories comparably does this. They both can be looked as great heroes in each story, but one shows there God given faith and abilities more. Through being a hero through Christ, undying faithfulness towards the lord, and being regarded as immortal through god s protection, Beowulf is the better example of a Christian hero. A major attribute of a Christian hero is being a hero through Christ. Beowulf never lets his glorious triumphs go unannounced without attributing his blessing to god. He sees god as the reason he is great and never misses a chance to profess it. Even after Beowulf defeated Grendel in battle, Beowulf gave God the glory for the fight. First and ... For example, after Beowulf slayed Grendel and was celebrated for it with many gifts, Hrothgar spoke of Beowulf as a man, with the lord s assistance (who)... has accomplished something none... of the men in the kingdom could do. Field Observation Field Notes:Observation 1 On January 29, a Friday, I observed as five student workers ate their lunch around the UCI Athletics compound area. It was exactly 12:15 PM, when the student workers marched into the area and grabbed their lunches. These are my co workers, so I did not have to do much to blend in. However, I did want to act natural, so I drank from a bottle of water and sat in a chair in the corner of the compound. They were all eating at the same time, because they only had a short time until they had to get back to work. The first person I observed pulled his lunch out of an orange sack, in which he carried all of his items to work. He had a variety of items he brought to snack one. He moved over to one of the carts, and sat in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I could tell that he had made his lunch himself. This person was wearing all black, and like many of the other students, he was carrying his lunch in his backpack. He kept most of his lunch in his backpack, and only took out what he was about to eat. The first item he took out to eat, was a home made sandwich. Upon my observation, it was hard to actually tell everything that was in his sandwich. From what I could actually view, he had turkey, cheese, tomato, and a jalapeno in his sandwich. The jalapeno was especially surprising, and his lunch struck me as unique. In addition to this sandwich, he had fruit snacks and a bottle of water. Moving to another individual, this person sat quietly on a bucket, while eating a small bag of pumpkin seeds. This does not really qualify as lunch, but it is a snack. Of all the students eating in the compound area, his lunch was the smallest. Finally, the last person I observed in the area, was a student eating another sandwich. All he was eating was a sandwich, and had no water or any other snacks. In his sandwich, all that appeared to be in it was turkey and cheese. It was a simple sandwich, but the student did manage to toast the bread. This student was near me, so when the others left and were walking out of the compound, I asked him if I could interview him after work. He agreed to an interview when we got off of ...
