The Power of Social Engineers in The Art Of Deception by...
The Art of Deception is an in depth look at the vulnerability that the common man has to the
social engineer. Mitnick s perspective comes from a social angle instead of a technological one,
seeing as he is known as the greatest hacker all over media and most of his methods weren t
technologically inclined but socially. A quick look into Mitnick s background, he was an only
child who had a knack for understanding the Nitti Gritty of technology. As a child, he managed
to hack the bus system in Los Angeles and travel for free, exploited telephone networks as a teen
and in college, infiltrated their network and was later hired because it was either that or
expulsion. These are just a few of his many hacking exhibitions. He has served jail time because he
realised what he did was wrong and is now helping companies avoid similar exploitations through
his securitycompany, public talks and through his books.
In this day and age, where information is the new currency on the block, criminals are on the rise
to acquire this information. The book highlights the different techniques and attacks of the social
engineer and how easily we are persuaded into thinking that technology has secured us from these
attacks. He shows these through a variety of stories that have actually happened as indications of
our negligence to these attacks, but as well points out ways that we can protect ourselves from
these attacks and become less victimized by the social engineer. He gets us to look through

Coffee is the third most valuable product that trades internationally which involved the exchange

Dying By Benjy Compson
Family has a very complex definition. It can be stripped of its value by being described simply
as a blood connection, something with only dna binding you to each other. It can be associated as
a money source or just strangers that live in the same vicinity as you. Family could just be a never
ending list of people who you don t truly know or seem to care about. Yet, familycan also be
something of deep enriching and emotional connection. You don t necessarily have to be blood
related but, you can form a connection that can t be broken no matter how broken of a situation
you may be in. Family in many people s eyes is a bond that can withstand anything and everything

Every day and every night Dilsey cooked, cleaned, and cared for the Compson family. The
children knew the she was their maid but, they respected her wishes and requests. Caddy was the
most rebellious in her attempts for control over Dilsey s word but, when she confronted Dilsey
she would always ask her for control, as opposed to how her usual Father said to mind me
tonight, when speaking to her brothers (32). While Caddy knows the distinct difference of
black and white folk she sets aside the physical separation when she speaks to Dilsey (33). She
along with everyone else in the household sees Dilsey as an important piece to holding the
family together. She knows everything there is to know about everyone all the way up until the
end, she even quotes I seed de beginnin, en now I sees de endin, when describing where the
Compson family stands at the end of the novel (297). Dilsey is literally visualized as the
backbone of the family because she sticks around until the very end. She and her family could
have packed up and left any time but, she decides to stay, even after Caddy is banished, Quentin
grows up and dies, and when father passes away. While characters such as Jason and Ms. Quentin
occasionally point out her race and status as a maid, she is still characterized as someone who
people go to for support. Faulkner uses Dilsey as the backbone of the

Realities Redefined in William Gibson s Neuromancer Essay
Realities Redefined in William Gibson s Neuromancer
The ways in which characters communicate and interact with one another are redefined in William
Gibson?s Neuromancer. An all encompassing web of intrigue, the Net enables humans and non
humans to access and to communicate an infinite amount of data across time and space. Medical
implants open another door on virtual communications. Non living entities such as artificial
intelligences and the Dixie Flatline construct overcome the physical barriers of communication.
With the implementation of these new communications technologies, the physical and virtual
realities of the society waver and meld into one another, resulting in an alienating cyber culture
where this new reality of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like many others who treats cyberspace as their reality, Case is mostly solitary. He derives his
adrenaline rush from stealing data in cyberspace, but he rarely senses emotions from other
stimuli. For Case, making love with Linda Lee and with Molly cannot be compared with his love
affair with the world of non flesh. As Molly says to Case: ?I saw you stroking that Sendai; man, it
was pornographic?(47).
When his former employers damage his nervous system with mycotoxin, Case is abruptly cut off
from his sensuous love affair with the matrix. For him, it is the Fall (6). Case loses everything
that he thinks is important to him, and he attempts to commit suicide. Even his love for Linda
cannot help him overcome his depression. After all, physical and emotional love is not the same
as being in love with something less tangible, for perhaps it is the intangibleness of the Net that
enthrals Case. The cyberspace cowboys have an elite stance towards the physical world, a ?certain
relaxed contempt for the flesh. The body was meat?(6). Meat deteriorates, but cyberspace lives on
forever. In Case?s situation, it is apparent that it is the ?meat? of one?s physical body that can
obstruct one from accessing the greater reality of cyberspace. This virtual reality, however, also
impedes Case from fully living his physical life, but he does not completely acknowledge this even
after his encounter with the A.I.s Wintermute and Neuromancer.

The Classification Of Municipal Government
From this Chapter, I understand the classification of municipal government from small to big at
different scale and also what do the local governments do. The main role is the democratic and
service provision. when studying the relationship between these two aspects, some questions are
also proposed: is that only when you have property, can you really participate in the vote or
democracy? Does the local governmentresponsible to the province about the finances? Or should
it responsible to its people? Political part should not be taken away from the responsibility of a
local government otherwise it will be no difference with a private supplier.
Through reading the history of the local government, it is found that the municipal governments
were mainly established in response to the population growth and service demand. Property tax is
one of the approaches to increase the income of the government, but had been opposed by the
people since the beginning. The Ontario model sets up in 1849 had been referenced for other
provinces to establish their local governments. Reforms were also taken during the 20th century to
eliminate corruption and to improve efficiency. It seems that the problems we are facing today are
the same with what we were facing 100 years. Maybe it is an inherent problem of the government
and politics.
Comparing with today s municipalities, the foundations of Canada s municipal system were very
different 200 years ago. Due to the changes of the structure of

do Ome s operations support this strategy?
Toshiba retained its position as market leader at that time by beating its competitor with
aggressively priced, technologically superior products. The Ome operation was key to that strategy,
because it enabled Toshiba to produce higher quality products at lower prices. Relentless
improvement to the manufacturing process resulted in higher quality products, making the products

And with 8 different models, and 6 different sets of features, Toshiba could sufficiently tailor its
products to their markets without overwhelming the operation with too many templates and

development and production sites. This enabled the various operations to share best practices, to
identify issues upstream and downstream, and to coordinate their production. * Workforce:
Ome employs four kinds of workers (full time, part time, temporary and affiliated workers) which
gives Ome flexibility with its production capacity so it can respond to market demands while
managing its labor costs.
Every new professional employee spends one month working on the assembly line before assuming
his or her regular duties. This way, the assembly operation will be more than just an abstraction to
them, and they can perform their tasks with a better awareness of the big picture.
Flexibility and smart redundancy were built into the system. The line employed supporters
highly skilled workers who would roam the assembly line to help out if anyone was falling
behind, using their expertise to keep the line working at top efficiency. Supporters could also
stop production if there were problems. Ome also had pack men workers who could do any job on
the line, on all models. The pack men were able to fill in for any worker, giving the operation a

Direct Democracy In Ancient Greek City
Direct democracy derives its power from citizens debating and voting directly on all laws and
policies. Ancient Greek City State portrayed direct democracy by allowing the legislature to be
made up of all the citizens. To add, women, foreigners, and slaves were excluded because they
weren t citizens. Furthermore, participation is key, concluding that direct democracyis carried out
most easily in small political communities. Due to spread of democratic policies, representative
democracywas established. It s defined as a form of governmentin which citizens elect a
representative to take charge of all laws and policies. Elections are held for government officials,
universal suffrage allows all adults to take action and vote for their representative.

The application of Internet technologies has been a growing trend in the business world for nearly
a decade. More and more companies are realizing the benefits of using the web. Web use has
morphed from information exchange only to enhancements for collaboration, customer service and
customization. These applications now lead to increasing profits; cutting costs, minimizing
production, and customer satisfaction in all areas of the manufacturing process. Companies such as
Mattel, BMW, and TaylorMade have adopted ways of fine tuning their strategies to keep up with
this growing trend. This was accomplished by focusing on several key aspects in each of their

Now with the introduction of e commerce, it has increased the development of material handling
systems. Newly designed planning, automated staging systems and manufacturing software has
made the ordering process itself easier by being sent directly to the plant where they are produced.
BMW calls this process ВЎВ§customer oriented sales and productionВЎВЁ. Their newly
developed software system provides real time information of the entire manufacturing process.
Ж’Вґ This means now that customers can make option changes six days before final production
starts on the car. BMW also implemented an automated storage and retrieval system or stacker as
they have termed it. This system makes a delayed option change requested by the customer if
possible.
Being able to manage the flow of information from the ordering process to the manufacturing
process has also been a huge success of the system. The ability to keep track of resources
necessary for the production of a car and the wants and needs of the customer is a problem for most
companies involved in product manufacturing. BMW has also allowed its resource suppliers into
the production loop. They changed their information systems both internally and to their suppliers.
The data is sent from individual customer orders directly to the suppliers daily. This provides
accurate information on the needs of the company, and in turn

Induction is the first piece of learning a worker undertakes when joining the social care sector or
a new organisation. These Common Induction Standards (CIS) have been designed to provide a
structured start for workers in the first 12 weeks of employment, which will help ensure that they
are then safe to leave alone with responsibility for the people they support. But when workers are
expected to perform any tasks that are not covered by the CIS, appropriate training must be
provided before the work is undertaken. There are eight standards that the induction should cover

reflect on an aspect of their work, usually a specific incident, and explain what they learned from
it. * Questions: to test the person understanding of a topic in more depth. * Evidence: of accredited
training in a particular area.
01.3 The successfully completed induction demonstrates that a worker has the basic Information
necessary for work in social care. However it should also enable the person to identify other areas
in which they may need further training to develop their skills for further progression. The
induction process for a new worker may reveal that the worker needs additional help in order to
meet the functional levels of language, literacy and numeracy which the manager considers
necessary for them to do their job properly. This area of work is crucial to increasing the skills of
the social care workforce and ensuring the well being of the people being supported. The

The tale of Catullus and his affair with Lesbia is an interesting one. He conveys his emotions of
love, happiness, sadness, and possibly anger throughout the poems. In V, their love affair is in its

Frederick Douglass was a powerful voice for African Americans. he was born a slavery yet was
taught to read and write. Frederick later escaped to New York and began touring around the
country. he was an abolitionist, advocate for equal rights and was a part of the anti slavery
society. He spoke on July 5, 1852, in Rochester, New York. His speech was called The Meaning
of July Fourth for the Negro . The purpose of his speech was to give his opinions on the well
known holiday, the fourth of July. Reading the speech made me feel dumbfounded, amused and
frustrated The Fourth of July is America s independence day from Britain. However, slaves
remained in the same position until after the civil war. This is the reason why Douglass says and
believes This Fourth July is yours, not mine. You may rejoice, I must mourn. To drag a man in

anthems, were inhuman mockery and sacrilegious irony. I m left both speechless and amused on
how true this statement is. Americans expected everyone to celebrate their day with them. While

Last month, Heartland agreed to pay MasterCard issuers $41.4 million to settle claims over the
data breach, according to The Associated Press. In order for the deal to go through, 80 percent of
MasterCard issuers who filed claimed must accept the settlement by June 25 (Heussner, 2010).
TJX Companies 2007
Though it is now eclipsed by the Heartland hack, a massive intrusion on TJX Company Inc. s
systems a few years earlier is significant because it was one of the first to show just how
vulnerable retailers were. TJX Companies include T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and HomeSense.
In December 2006, the Framingham, Massachusetts based TJX alerted law enforcement that
cybercriminals had stolen more than 45 million customer records in 2003 and 2004. In January
2007 it went public with the news.
According to Information Week, within eight months, the company had spent more than $20
million investigating the incident, notifying customers and hiring lawyers to deal with the dozens
of associated lawsuits. The hack alerted the industry to the threat of cybercriminals and pushed
lawmakers to fast track data security legislation, Information Week reported (Heussner, 2010).

Film Techniques Used In 1984 And Metropolis By Fritz Lang
Language, history and belief are easily changed. It is through the manipulation and
representation of language, history and belief that gives elite, governing bodies power over the
masses. In Nineteen Eighty Four a novel by George Orwell, Orwell takes this readers to Airstrip
One, which is what remains of London in the year 2060 after many years of war. Airstrip one is
under constant surveillance through telescreens under the watchful eye of the Party and Big
Brother. Similarly in Metropolis a silent film by Fritz Lang, Lang takes his viewers to Metropolis a
futuristic mega city, which is operated by machines below the surface by many workers slaving
away in the subterranean workers city. In both Nineteen Eighty Four and Metropolis language,...

In the film Metropolis, Fritz Lang uses film techniques and specific genre devices to communicate
to the audience the ideas and concepts featured in Metropolis. Lang uses elements from both
Science Fiction and Dystopian film genres, as well as elements of German Expressionism to warn
future generations about the dangers of technology and science, human ambition and
industrialisation. The science fiction genre typically uses a futuristic setting, feature characters
that try to challenge or test the morals and boundaries of human ambition and science, has
technology that is incongruous with the time period of release and has a new political and
societal structure. The futuristic setting used in Metropolis is based upon New York City, which
Lang visited before making the film, the large skyscrapers represent man s ambition and are
symbolic of the Tower of Babel, from the Old Testament, which is a story about ambition and
rebellion. It is through these motif and techniques that Lang expresses his concerns for the future.
Elements such as the use of chiaroscuro, use of reflective surfaces, anthropomorphism and art
deco elements (seen in the long shots of the city) are all example of German Expressionism. The
use of chiaroscuro in the establishing shot of the city as well as the low key lighting created long,
deep shadows being cast across the city scape, which highlighted the grandness of the buildings and
also brings to attention the underlying message about ambition. The Robot Maria is an example of
anthropomorphism, by giving Maria s human like characteristics to the robot, Rotwang s
characterisation is also another science fiction element because of the use of futuristic technology
and he also tries to overstep ethical boundaries in creating the Robot Maria. Lang used all of these
elements in order to convey his very clear message about the dangers that technological

Sephora Essay
Sephora is a retail chain of cosmetics and perfume stores founded in 1969 by Dominique
Mandonnaud. It first started as a small perfumery in Limoges, France, called Shop 8 and was
revolutionary at that time due to its concept of assisted self service . The store had an open sell
setting where customers could try the products before they bought them and where the organization
of the products in the store was by type, not by brand as in every other store.
In 1993, Mandonnaud bought 38 retail cosmetics stores from the UK s Boots PLC chain and
merged them with the 12 Shop 8 stores that the company already had at that time. The stores were
then rebranded to what is known today as Sephora.
Although Sephora s initial strategy was to expand within France and its surroundings such as
Monaco and Luxembourg, after Sephora was acquired by Louis Vuitton MoГ«t Hennessy (LVMH
)
in 1997, it started pursuing a global international strategy. With every store around the world,
Sephora maintains similar products, overall atmosphere and services and every strategic decision is
made by the higher management at the headquarters.
Its first international store was in 1998 in New York City and the company began to expand in the
European market starting with Italy. However, not every country was hospitable to Sephora s
expansion such as the United Kingdom, Spain and Japan, where the company struggled.
Nowadays, the Sephora brand is available in 31 countries in 2,000 points of sale and features

Odds To Identify Obstacles
Multiply 2,345 by 3.40089 and quickly pop out an answer. Odds are you can t do it. Now with a
pad of paper and pencil write it down and figure it out. Odds are now you can come up with an
answer. Why? Because you know the formula! If you know the formula then it really doesn t matter
what the goal is.
You absolutely must have goals if you want to be successful. There is a saying, show me a stock

a goal and I ll show you a stock clerk. You can choose to set goals and realize your potential or
you can choose not to set them and understand that the consequences are not going to be good
down the road. I bet you know a bunch of people who are going to do or are meaning to do a whole

areas. History is what brings us to where we are today. Throughout time, I believe that every

strides that Michigan has made to become the best it can be are due to the love and devotion that
michiganders have to their sate and their country. Just because people try to do good and do their

In 1936 the orphanage was turned into a home for children with mental disabilities. A
reimbursement act (in which you are partially reimbursed) was placed in 1949 for the school
districts who held classes for the children with mental disabilities. Half of a decade later, a law
was passed in which allowed counties to collect tax money in order to implement programs
designed for children with handicaps. This groundswell of grassroots advocacy led to the more
recent history of special education in America, which commenced with Congressional approval of
the Education for All Handicapped Children Act(Public Law 94 142) on November 29, 1975. This
law was intended to support states and localities in protecting the rights of, meeting the
individual needs of, and improving the results for infants, toddlers, children and youths with
disabilities and their families . ( History of Special Education. ). This was a major stride that
Michigan took in which helped us reach where we are today with special education. Now, For

Pros And Cons Of Banning The Headscarf
Should the headscarf be banned? Recently there has been a push towards banning religious
symbolism from the media, especially the hijab. The hijab is a veil that Muslim women wear
around their heads to cover their hair and their bosoms; it symbolizes faith and modesty. Many
people fear or in some cases feel bad for people who wear the headscarf including niqabs and
burqas because they are uneducated and/or ignorant of Islamic teachings which lead them to create
inaccurate assumptions and accusations on the matter. Most may believe banning the headscarf
will benefit the community in ways that they believe will make people feel more comfortable and
they also believe that it will benefit the women who wear the hijab because of the belief that
Muslim women who wear the headscarf are oppressed, however, banning the headscarf would lead
to the contradiction of Canadian values, discrimination, and go against the religious beliefs of
Muslims. The prohibition of the headscarf would go against Canadian values. When Steven Harper
was Prime Minister, he wanted to ban the niqab, a cloth that covers the face, for citizens who work
for the government and Around 82 percent of Canadians [supported] the niqab ban, ( Trudeau s
Gutsy Post Victory Speech Shatters Stereotypes ). Having most of the population supporting this
decision is relatively disappointing knowing it contradicts the significance of Canadian society,
since Canada is acknowledged for its multiculturalism and diversity.

The Heidi Chronicles Essay
The Heidi Chronicles by Wendy Wasserstein kept my interest so much that I could not put it down
until I was to the last page. I liked how the issue of sexuality played a role along with the issue of
feminist goals in this play. I believe they complimented one another in that both groups strive for
equal right among the majority. For example when Peter starts to march with the other women from
the Art Institute. It shows that he is standing for a cause the effects another minority group in our
society: women.

impressing the guys, rolling her skirt to appear more attractive. Peter ... Show more content on

I believe Scoop is too much of a chauvinistic pig especially when he assigns a grade to everything

men like him back in his cage.
Act 2, Scene 2 is where I had the strongest reaction that is when Peter, Scoop, and Heidi went on a
talk show. What made me mad was before the show Denise told Peter to act out his sexuality more
than usual. Basically telling him to be the stereotypical, flaming homosexual for the television
audience. It reminded me of the Jerry Springer episodes where they bring out the gay guests that
have cheated on their lovers: been there, done that, now they are back for more attitude. Which is a
false portrayal of the gay community. Betrayal happens in any kind of relationship whether is gay
or straight relationship. The talk show they are on reminds me of the Dr. Laura show. April, the
host, makes several comments that have gay derogatory undertones. April talks about how their
generation is rich, powerful, famous, and even parents. Then she makes a comment to the effect of

The Influence Of Haussmann On The City Of Paris
Over the past few centuries, after mankind had almost fully embraced the thought of living life
within the confines of a city, the people in charge of the maintenance and upkeep of the sprawling
metropolises that now dominate the world scene have used methods that are equally alike and
different in order to accomplish their goals. Often considered one of the first great cityplanners of
pre modern times, Haussmann was given the task to recreate the sprawling mass that Paris had
become into a landmark of both beauty and power. His personal style, although having its own fair
share of critics, is now considered to have been at least fairly successful in completely retrofitting
and modernizing the monuments, the roadways and the main public... Show more content on

These increased numbers led to very overcrowded living conditions, an inability to maintain even
the slightest control over sanitation conditions, and widespread death from diseases such as cholera
and tuberculosis. In these conditions, Emperor Louis Napoleon Bonaparte found Haussmann
through an interview process and quickly had him appointed to levels of high status that practically
made him the major of Paris. Haussmann was given a daunting and seemly insurmountable goal as
he took over as the city planner of Paris: to reinvent the way that urban environments were built
and maintained in a way that showed the power of the government while keeping to a budget. He
dedicated much of his professional life to this task, and when he had taken his last breath what had
been done would forever alter the way that the foundations of cities would be built. Haussmann s
main methods that had positive outcomes included: creating large new boulevards, expanding the
amount of green space that existed inside of the city, creating new sewers and fresh water systems,
and linking the suburbs to the city. His critics, on the other hand, argue that his tactics showed little
to no concern for both the historic buildings that lined the city streets and entire sections of working
class neighborhoods. They said that Haussmann had no remorse in bulldozing these types of
buildings, even if

Shortly after getting involved with local Farmers Guild, which now has 11 chapters, I realized the
dire importance to spread the word and message about the future of young farmers. The typical
American farmer is over 57, white and male; he often has no succession plan. One of my clients,
Larry Peter the Owner of Petaluma Creamery worked in agriculture as a young man picking prunes
and raspberries. He washed milk bottles; bottle fed calves, and drove a forklift for ten years
while he learned the business. He saved his money, bought run down houses, fixed them up, and
rented them out. In doing research, I found farmers and ranchers earned a median annual income
of nearly $61,000 in 2010, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. (1) Seven of the 10
best paying U.S. cities for farmers were in California, ranking at $80,0000 $87,000 annually.
According to a recent report commissioned by the USDA, there will be 20,000 fewer university
graduates in the fields of agriculture and the environment than will be needed in just the next five
years. In order to feed 9 billion people by 2050, we will need a diverse population of agriculture
researchers who can think outside the hectare and leverage the experience of nontraditional learners
including veterans, refugees from rural backgrounds, migrant farmworkers and female farm
owners. (5)

occupancy study which counted occupied parking spaces in and around the campus during a
typical class day was conducted. It was found that a lot of the students utilized street parking as it
was inexpensive; however, parked at their own risk. The purpose of this proposal is to document
the existing campus parking supply and demand for parking spaces and to provide a
recommendation for the number of parking spaces needed for students with the main objectives of
improving location of parking so that it supports the university, safety of vehicle access, and the
safety of the campus community, and improving parking management, reviewing current strategies

Looking For A Rain God Analysis
Since ancient times, humans have found countless ways to reassure themselves of the future. From
shrines to gods, to the practice of astrology, mankind has always found a way to gain hope. In the
short stories The Bet , by Anton Chekov and Looking for a Rain God by Bessie head, humans share
a common need for certainty of the unknown. This common humanity is revealed through
characters reliance on supernatural powers and their desperate actions. In the Middle Ages, people

In the last days before the prisoner s release in The Bet the banker, now old and severely in debt,
contemplates how to escape from his promise. He fears for his future as a beggar, while the
prisoner walks away happy and rich. He then exclaims, The one means of being saved from
bankruptcy and disgrace is the death of that man! (Chekov 11). The Banker s fear, greed, and
extreme reaction show human nature at its worst. Like a cornered animal, he resorts to murder.
Though the banker ultimately keeps his money, he is fated to live a life of guilt. Similarly, in
Looking for a Rain God , people turn to extreme means for survival. In the setting, the rain was
frustratingly on and off which prolonged the drought. Mokgobja, the old man, started to remember
an obscure old ritual, and as he explained to his son, his memory became a conviction and he
began to talk with the unshakeable authority (Head 28). The family did turn to a supernatural force
in a time of need, but this time in a more sinister manner. Mokgobja s desperation caused him to
latch on to an archaic, primal practice: ritual killing of the 2 young girls. The family was driven by
fear of starvation; thus their security became compromised. To secure a certainty for the future, the
adults became selfish and one minded. They threw out their moral compass, letting fear and

This Elizabethan Settlement lasts to this day. Only a great leader could think of something so
effective. Her idea has lasted for centuries.
Not only was Elizabeth a great leader when it came to religion but her military accomplishments
were also overwhelming. During this time, England s main concern was to limit Spain s power.
So Spain and England went to war. England fought against the Spanish Armada. Sir Francis Drake
led the English Fleet to a great victory. When the fight was over, only half the Spanish Armada
returned, whereas every single English ship returned to England. This defeat was one of the
greatest ever for England. Before this, Elizabeth had kept England out of war for 27 years. For more
than three centurys, Englands ships ruled the water. After the war, Elizabeth made a friendship with
Spain. Elizabeth also made many treaties with surrounding countries. England became the foremost
power in Europe. Even Englands enemies loved Elizabeth. This woman changed the balance of
power in Europe during her reign.
Elizabeth proved to be a successful and a well accomplished leader who advanced her country
socially, militarily, religiously and economically. She thought of herself as Mother of England and
she most certainly proved this to be true. No English woman ruler accomplished as much as
Elizabeth did. Elizabeth was one of the most able rulers to ever govern England. Because of her,
the way woman rulers were thought of changed forever.

The Performance Of The Professional Sports Entertainment...
The Destruction of Competitiveness with the Over Usage of Participatory Awards
In a world where athletes get paid the most that they ever have and the workforce is the most
competitive, participation awards are hindering the ability for fairness and impartiality to grow
and for humans to flourish. Society is becoming a place where everyone is looked at equally,
truly eliminating being unique and taking away individualism, fairness and teamwork. By doing
this, people with great powers and capabilities in the general populace are being left behind and
denied ability to achieve their own personal greatness. Without this chance to strive, they will be
left feeling complacent and never be able to flourish their abilities and strengths. The workforce
lose a higher level employee, with the middle class never learning the traits taught through
competition. These workers will never push themselves and expect to be rewarded solely for
showing up to work. The professional sports entertainment market will also have a smaller pool
of great athletes to choose from which leads to more teams not performing at a high enough
level with cities losing teams and athletes losing jobs. The concept of teamwork will slowly
disappear leaving a trail of individualistic yet equal members of society. Competition and fair play
are losing ground to the freshly remodeled idea of participation awards, slowly devaluing the need
to strive for greatness and creating a society focused on over equality

The Pros And Cons Of The Reformation
The word reformation implies whole scale change, with Catholicism the very foundation of life,
the reformation should have sought to uproot this underlying power and plant a new order.
However, Henry did not refine the role of the church, as Shagan comments Given the king s
promiscuous mixing of civil and religious authority, it was not even clear where the line lay . The
Ten Articles of 1536 promoted the use of image and the invocation of saints are more heartily
commended , yet as an independent activity it was up to the person whether or not this was
undertaken even before the reformation. Whilst Sacraments as a dependent activity, there only

wherever it struck, opposition was seldom united due to its array of woes presented by each

Grace was intended as a religious or secular uprising, its result would indicate the people s
acceptance or rejection of the Henrician reformation. The demographics of the commons
represented seven counties, covering a third of England , as previously mentioned the
grievances were varied and specific. Economic inequalities can be attributed to the risings in
Cumberland, Westmorland and the Craven district of the West Riding in 1536, demands arose
from the call for moderation or abolition of entry fines and other dues, such as rising general
price level forced landlords to increase dues traditionally regarded as fixed. The living standards
were precarious at best, especially since 1527 and the inconsistency of successful harvest and the
increase of population which had the potential to cause an alarming fluctuation in the economy,
which was under strain from Henry already. Dickens posits ...roots of the movement were
decidedly economic, its demands predominantly secular, its interest in Rome almost negligible....
In short the English remained incapable of staging genuine wars of religion . This defines the
nature of opposition to Henry, grievances varied from parish to parish, person to person. This
would all seem to point to the reformation , itself, as being largely secular and from the base of

The Inborn Names Of The Morongo Reservation
Set at the extremity of the striking San Gorgonio and San Jacinto Mountains, the Morongo Indian
Reservation extends more than 35,000 acres and overlooks the desert vistas of the Banning Pass.
Wild buckwheat, mesquite and chaparral still flourish here, and the ubiquitous breeze ensures that
the air is always fresh and clear.
One of the inborn names of the Morongo Reservation was Malki, and it was located in what was
once called the Wanikik territory. In the mid 19th century, the Serrano people to the north began
journeying to the Malki settlement. They brought with them the Morongo name derivative from the
Serrano name for their people, Maringayam. Since the late 19th century, the Morongo Reservation
has been tenanted by a mix of Cahuilla, Serrano, Luiseno and Cupeno people.
Irrepressible and ingenious, the Morongo tribe has overcome many hardships. The Morongo
Reservation was one of nine small reservations set aside by President Grant by Executive Order in

Civil Rights And Social Integration Of African Americans
During the 20th century there were numerous riots, protests, and boycotts fighting for the equality
and social integration of African Americans. Some of the stories of individuals endeavoring for
their freedom have gone down in history resulting in laws being altered, regulations being revised,
and unimaginable boundaries being broken. Sadly, in order to establish justice in this world,
violence and death usually occur due to conflicting ideals. In Southern Los Angeles, even after
African Americans were issued their Civil Rights, underlying racismconstructed barriers such as
racial restrictive covenants that ensured that blacks were still not welcome there. The two biggest
social disturbances that have taken place in the West have taken place in Los Angeles where
unemployment, overcrowding, poverty, and segregation have become increasingly prevalent. The
first of these social disturbances is the Rodney Kingriot of 1992 and the second is the Watts riot of
1965. The racial bigotry, which was backed by the racial restrictive covenants and racial
discrimination of LAPD throughout Southern Los Angeles; as well as the events that sparked the
Rodney King riot and the Watts riot; clearly illustrate the racial segregation and the overall struggle
that African Americans faced during the 20th century. Between 1910 and 1920 in what is

Historical Context Of Oppression
Introduction Growing up in America it seem that success was described in a way that was very
obtainable for everyone to reach as long as you worked hard and got an education. Now
assessing life and some of the experiences I have had, I don t remember anyone explaining that
white privilege had that exception. With a social worker perspective it helps me understand that
different cultural group are associated with being vulnerable because of cultural norms in
diverse ethnicities of individuals. Identifying as an African American woman has many life risk
factors associated with those identities. One example that I have had personal experience with
was racism. While striving to become a better person and working to obtain my bachelors degree
in Social Work, I took notice to how the residents of the rural environment were uncomfortable
with my identity s being African American and woman. I often got racially profiled by police
and even was called hurtful names by residents due to the color of my skin and stereotypes. In
further support of my experiences Draut (2017) acknowledges that hierarchies continue to

Broken Politics And Broken Dreams
Broken Politics Broken Dreams
What is a perfect form of government? What are politics and why do they matter? Now that you
have thought about it, you may have thought this. The perfect government is one that does not
internally fight itself over an opinion on a topic. It serves its citizens faithfully and cares for their
thoughts and opinions. Politics are supposed to influence the government to make it better and to
support its citizens. Politics helps us make a better government. Do you think America fits that
description? We should not because American politics are broken and ineffective at their main
purpose.
America, the once great country we live in used to be a strong and independent Nation. Then we
reformed it until we butchered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of these systems like separation of powers, checks and balances, federalism, and pluralism,
are dysfunctional and obsolete (Lynn). Most find America s political dysfunction sad and also that
America s entire political system is also just as sad and dysfunctional (Nicholas). This political
dysfunction makes American politics broken and it doesn t help that the key systems in use today
just do not work. Any work that can be done in the government is stalled or impossible to
accomplish from this.
One of these systems, the American political parties, is another key system that has become broken
in its own functions. Both parties have been in America almost since the beginning of our young
Government. Both parties are always at odds with each other and never seem to agree on anything.
Both only agree on one thing though, and it s that of America s wellness. The problem now and
days is that you can t see them actually trying to make any positive difference. The constant
bickering and fighting between these parties stops many positive changes from happening. And
now we have to deal with internal fighting within these parties.
The reason for this internal fighting is from a ununited political party. This is best shown by the
implosion of the republican party. They re blowing up from the inside and don t agree with
anything they want to do. The democrats are not

Thou Blind Man s Mark Analysis
In the poem Thou Blind Man s Mark by Sir Philip Sidney, the speaker is struggling with his
desire for someone or something. They are fighting this feeling for control over his thoughts and
mind. It is shown that both the speaker and desire are constantly fighting, with neither fully able
to take control. This fact is evident through Sidney s use of violent diction, personification of
desire, and oxymorons. First, the diction of the poem is very violent. The words used are harsh
and show that the speaker is engaged in a war against his desire. For example, on line 14 it
states, Desiring naught but to kill desire (Sidney 14). The word kill is very intense and shows
that the speaker feels that the only way to destroy their desire is to murder it. Thus, ending the
fight they are stuck engaging in. This idea was earlier introduced in line 6, which says, With
price of mangled mind, thy worthless ware (6)[.] The words mangled and worthless are further
proof of this battle. Desire is leaving their mind in a mess, as is shown in the word mangled which
gives off the image of something being tangled and unable to be separated. Likewise, because his
mind is a mess, his thoughts are seemingly useless as shown through the use of worthless. The
wares, or valuable objects, in this case are the speaker s thoughts and ideas. Their constant battle
with desire has left their thoughts to be filled with nothing but thoughts of desire and those trying
to subdue it, thus leaving his mind

Public Support Of A National Pharmacare Plan
Ontario has identified pharmacare as a policy area where the federal and provincial governments
can work closely with one another. How should Ontario engage with a new federal partner and
position itself to effect changes that maximize the wellbeing of Ontarians and minimize provincial
expenditure? CURRENT STATUS Increased articulation and organization of public support from a
variety of stakeholders, the collision of provincial aspirations with fiscal realities and a number of
upcoming strategic opportunities are pushing a discussion around national pharmacare further up
the policy agenda. Public support of a national pharmacare plan is growing. According to a 2015
poll, 91% of Canadians support having Pharmacare provide universal... Show more content on

Ontario recently indicated that it will work to restructure its own public drug plan by 2019 and
public consultations are scheduled to start in spring 2016, potentially positioning drug coverage
as a provincial election issue by 2017 18. The federal government s participation in a number of
interjurisdictional initiatives provides the opportunity to establish a national strategy on
pharmacare. These initiatives include: the Pan Canadian Pharmaceutical Alliance (PCPA), a
working group composed of federal and provincial health ministers that will explore how to
improve Canadians access to pharmaceutical drugs and First Ministers Meetings. The federal
government has not explicitly stated its position on universal pharmacare but has promised to
work with provincial governments to improve access to necessary medicines and make them
more affordable. BACKGROUND Current Coverage Canada is the only country in the world
with a universal healthcare system that does not include prescription medication. Drug coverage
is provided by a patchwork of private, provincial and federal plans. Eligibility for public drug
plans varies by province and can be based on age (Ontario), income (British Columbia), and
employment (Quebec) status. Most Ontarians have employer provided medical coverage (58%).
The Province covers drug expenditures for low

The Healthful Benefits of Gratitude Essay example
Gratitude has become defined as deeply appreciative attitude for kindnesses or benefits acquired.
Several parts of gratitude have been identified. First, a person experiences a warm sense of
appreciation toward an individual who performs a generous or desired kind act. Second,
appreciation and kindness are expressed toward the person who completed the desired act. Finally,
the person to whom appreciation is expressed, sensing the goodwill, is inclined to act positively
and/or appreciatively toward the individual expressing gratitude. Gratitude is often interactive and
also seems to have the capacity to enhance the sense of well being and goodwill among individuals
and groups throughout an institution. Grateful individuals show higher... Show more content on

In this research, Danner, Snowden, and Friesen (Danner, DEBBIE. D., D. Snowden, and W. V.
Friesen) discovered a significant inverse relationship between your positive emotional content in
handwritten autobiographies of 180 Catholic nuns (at the average age of 22) and the risk of
death later through life (ages 75 to 95). Having a grateful attitude is a lot more than just saying
thank you on occasion. Grateful people show far more intensity around some positive event
than do less appreciative folks. Over time, individuals with a higher outlook for gratitude oftener
express grateful behavior than individuals inclined to be less thankful. Grateful people have a
broader span of life events, or more life circumstances, for which they are thankful, such as
spouse and children, job, health, and even life itself. Dr. Robert Emmons on the University of
California at Davis has been studying gratitude for nearly ten years and is considered by many to
be this world s leading authority on gratitude. He s the author of all the book, The information in
this book is based on research involving thousands of people conducted by several unique
researchers around the world. One of the things these reports show is that practicing gratitude can
increase happiness levels as a result of around 25%. This is significant, among other things,
because as there s a certain weight that feels natural to our body and which our system strives to

Nuclear Bomb Impact On Society
Nuclear bombs changed warfare forever. Secret cities full of power plants and innocent people
called the Manhattan Project created the nuclear bomb that fell upon those Nagasaki and
Hiroshima. Most of these cities consisted of women, excited because they were helping the war
efforts, in hopes of getting their fathers, husbands, brothers, and friends home as soon as they
could. Innocent women were recruited to work at the power plant in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
They were tricked into thinking that they were helping their American soldiers win the long,
devastating, and tiresome war. They would do anything for their soldiers, some of which were
family members or close friends that were sent across the ocean in a war. Helen Hall was
approached in a diner in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, when she was 18, only knew that her task was
to monitor the gauge needles. Very few women, and men, working in the secret cites had any idea
that they were working toward something like the nuclear bomb that would kill so many people....

The Fischer Controversy. The Publication In 1961 Of Fritz
The Fischer Controversy The publication in 1961 of Fritz Fischer book Germany s Aims in the
First World War, caused a wave of reactions from other historians and the general public. His
claim angered German historians because it stated that Germany was solely responsible for the
outbreak of World War I because they had aggressive war aims in 1914. According to Fischer,
World War Iwas the excuse Germany needed to advance these aims. Although Fischer s claim
focused only on Germany the impact he made was felt among other nations who had also taken
part in World War I. In turn each of these nations reacted differently to it. However, through articles
written by T.G Otte and J.F.V Keiger some similarities appear between Britain and... Show more

He concludes by stating that the initial impact in Great Britain was limited and its lasting
impact is said to be ambiguous. While in West Germany it was explosive in the short term, but
overtime it was cathartic. This article contributes to the discussion of the controversy by
addressing the reactions and the impact Fischer had in Great Britain.Additionally, J.F.V Keiger
brings in France s nationalistic perspective on the Fischer controversy in his article The Fischer
Controversy, the War Origins Debate and France: A Non History. In this article Keiger discusses
how little impact the Fischer controversy made in France and discusses the factors that made this
possible. Keiger attributes the lack of impact do to the fact that France was mentioned only three
times in the book, Pierre Renouvin, who was France s specialist on World War I was critical of
Fischer, and the publication date of the book in France. Furthermore, Keiger goes on to mention
other French historians like Jean Claude Allain and their reasons for why Fischer s claims did not
make such an impact in France as they did in West Germany. The discussion then turns to the state
of historiography in France and its approaches to studying the origins of the war and the schism that
seems to have occur within

Patriots Marching Band Case Study
1. Why do you want to be in a leadership position in the Patriots Marching Band?
I am a Patriot at heart and I want to do all I can to serve this band to the best of my abilities.
2. What do you believe are your greatest leadership strengths and greatest leadership challenges?
One leadership strengths I possess is that I am a very good public speaker and am able to easily
address a group of people whether it is a big or small one. I also believe that I am quite
approachable and friendly. One of my challenges would be trying to show the band that I could be a
fun, as well as effective and productive leader. Even when I am feeling tired and slightly irritable,
which I can be when tired, I will have to work hard to keep a positive attitude and to not let the
negative side show though to the band. I am also not very good with names ... Show more content

How would a member of Patriots marching band perceive your worthiness as a section leader or
commander candidate? Specifically in term of your leadership qualities, commitment to band at
your school, your history with Patriots and the consistency of your attitude and efforts in all three
areas?
First, being a five year veteran will certainly show people of my commitment and the skills that I
have more than likely picked up along the way. I have always tried to support people in band where
I can, especially new comers, and hope that many people in the band program respect me as both a
musician and a leader. I also make an effort to be inclusive and get to know the various people in
the program, for respect is largely earned not gained. This year more than ever, being a senior, I
have pushed myself to lead by example and to be a positive force within the bands as well a force
that younger kids can look up to. I have always held pride in all of my bands and I believe that
many people know this. I by no means keep my musical passions a secret, it is a large part of who I
am, and every band I play in likewise plays a role in

Low Carb diets are Reckless and Dangerous?
The Medical and sports nutrition establishment are horrified by the concept of low carbohydrate
and ketogenic diets. While studies are being released almost daily proving the superiority of low
carb diets for fat loss, the medical establishment warns against trying them as the long term health
risks are unknown . Apparently it is a case of better the devil you know than the devil you don t .
Dangerous because we don t know IF they re safe
This fence sitting attitude is an absolutely inexcusable disgrace! The devil we know a devil only
revealed as a result of the high carb recommendations is epidemic levels of obesity, diabetes, cancer,
heart disease and depression. Is there any possibility of the unknown risk being worse than the
sickness that the health department recommendations have caused? I think not!
There Might be Side Effects
It is the most patronising hypocrisy that the Medical community warn against using a treatment

  • 2. The Power of Social Engineers in The Art Of Deception by... The Art of Deception is an in depth look at the vulnerability that the common man has to the social engineer. Mitnick s perspective comes from a social angle instead of a technological one, seeing as he is known as the greatest hacker all over media and most of his methods weren t technologically inclined but socially. A quick look into Mitnick s background, he was an only child who had a knack for understanding the Nitti Gritty of technology. As a child, he managed to hack the bus system in Los Angeles and travel for free, exploited telephone networks as a teen and in college, infiltrated their network and was later hired because it was either that or expulsion. These are just a few of his many hacking exhibitions. He has served jail time because he realised what he did was wrong and is now helping companies avoid similar exploitations through his securitycompany, public talks and through his books. In this day and age, where information is the new currency on the block, criminals are on the rise to acquire this information. The book highlights the different techniques and attacks of the social engineer and how easily we are persuaded into thinking that technology has secured us from these attacks. He shows these through a variety of stories that have actually happened as indications of our negligence to these attacks, but as well points out ways that we can protect ourselves from these attacks and become less victimized by the social engineer. He gets us to look through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Dying By Benjy Compson Family has a very complex definition. It can be stripped of its value by being described simply as a blood connection, something with only dna binding you to each other. It can be associated as a money source or just strangers that live in the same vicinity as you. Family could just be a never ending list of people who you don t truly know or seem to care about. Yet, familycan also be something of deep enriching and emotional connection. You don t necessarily have to be blood related but, you can form a connection that can t be broken no matter how broken of a situation you may be in. The children knew the she was their maid but, they respected her wishes and requests. Caddy was the most rebellious in her attempts for control over Dilsey s word but, when she confronted Dilsey she would always ask her for control, as opposed to how her usual Father said to mind me tonight, when speaking to her brothers (32). While Caddy knows the distinct difference of black and white folk she sets aside the physical separation when she speaks to Dilsey (33). She along with everyone else in the household sees Dilsey as an important piece to holding the family together. She knows everything there is to know about everyone all the way up until the end, she even quotes I seed de beginnin, en now I sees de endin, when describing where the Compson family stands at the end of the novel (297). Dilsey is literally visualized as the backbone of the family because she sticks around until the very end. She and her family could have packed up and left any time but, she decides to stay, even after Caddy is banished, Quentin grows up and dies, and when father passes away. While characters such as Jason and Ms. Quentin occasionally point out her race and status as a maid, she is still characterized as someone who people go to for support. Realities Redefined in William Gibson s Neuromancer Essay Realities Redefined in William Gibson s Neuromancer The ways in which characters communicate and interact with one another are redefined in William Gibson?s Neuromancer. An all encompassing web of intrigue, the Net enables humans and non humans to access and to communicate an infinite amount of data across time and space. Medical implants open another door on virtual communications. Non living entities such as artificial intelligences and the Dixie Flatline construct overcome the physical barriers of communication. With the implementation of these new communications technologies, the physical and virtual realities of the society waver and meld into one another, resulting in an alienating cyber culture where this new reality of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like many others who treats cyberspace as their reality, Case is mostly solitary. He derives his adrenaline rush from stealing data in cyberspace, but he rarely senses emotions from other stimuli. For Case, making love with Linda Lee and with Molly cannot be compared with his love affair with the world of non flesh. As Molly says to Case: ?I saw you stroking that Sendai; man, it was pornographic?(47). When his former employers damage his nervous system with mycotoxin, Case is abruptly cut off from his sensuous love affair with the matrix. For him, it is the Fall (6). Case loses everything that he thinks is important to him, and he attempts to commit suicide. Even his love for Linda cannot help him overcome his depression. After all, physical and emotional love is not the same as being in love with something less tangible, for perhaps it is the intangibleness of the Net that enthrals Case. The cyberspace cowboys have an elite stance towards the physical world, a ?certain relaxed contempt for the flesh. The body was meat?(6). Meat deteriorates, but cyberspace lives on forever. In Case?s situation, it is apparent that it is the ?meat? of one?s physical body that can obstruct one from accessing the greater reality of cyberspace. This virtual reality, however, also impedes Case from fully living his physical life, but he does not completely acknowledge this even after his encounter with the A.I.s Wintermute and Neuromancer. ... • 7. The Classification Of Municipal Government From this Chapter, I understand the classification of municipal government from small to big at different scale and also what do the local governments do. The main role is the democratic and service provision. when studying the relationship between these two aspects, some questions are also proposed: is that only when you have property, can you really participate in the vote or democracy? Does the local governmentresponsible to the province about the finances? Or should it responsible to its people? Political part should not be taken away from the responsibility of a local government otherwise it will be no difference with a private supplier. Through reading the history of the local government, it is found that the municipal governments were mainly established in response to the population growth and service demand. Property tax is one of the approaches to increase the income of the government, but had been opposed by the people since the beginning. The Ontario model sets up in 1849 had been referenced for other provinces to establish their local governments. Reforms were also taken during the 20th century to eliminate corruption and to improve efficiency. It seems that the problems we are facing today are the same with what we were facing 100 years. Maybe it is an inherent problem of the government and politics. Comparing with today s municipalities, the foundations of Canada s municipal system were very different 200 years ago. Frederick later escaped to New York and began touring around the country. he was an abolitionist, advocate for equal rights and was a part of the anti slavery society. He spoke on July 5, 1852, in Rochester, New York. His speech was called The Meaning of July Fourth for the Negro . The purpose of his speech was to give his opinions on the well known holiday, the fourth of July. Reading the speech made me feel dumbfounded, amused and frustrated The Fourth of July is America s independence day from Britain. However, slaves remained in the same position until after the civil war. This is the reason why Douglass says and believes This Fourth July is yours, not mine. You may rejoice, I must mourn. To drag a man in fetters into the grand illuminated temple of liberty, and call upon him to join you in joyous anthems, were inhuman mockery and sacrilegious irony. I m left both speechless and amused on how true this statement is. Americans expected everyone to celebrate their day with them. While remaining hypocrites having once slaves and now segregation within their free and fair nation. No one should expect respect or happiness from people Americana has hurt. • 18. Film Techniques Used In 1984 And Metropolis By Fritz Lang Language, history and belief are easily changed. It is through the manipulation and representation of language, history and belief that gives elite, governing bodies power over the masses. In Nineteen Eighty Four a novel by George Orwell, Orwell takes this readers to Airstrip One, which is what remains of London in the year 2060 after many years of war. Airstrip one is under constant surveillance through telescreens under the watchful eye of the Party and Big Brother. In the film Metropolis, Fritz Lang uses film techniques and specific genre devices to communicate to the audience the ideas and concepts featured in Metropolis. Lang uses elements from both Science Fiction and Dystopian film genres, as well as elements of German Expressionism to warn future generations about the dangers of technology and science, human ambition and industrialisation. The science fiction genre typically uses a futuristic setting, feature characters that try to challenge or test the morals and boundaries of human ambition and science, has technology that is incongruous with the time period of release and has a new political and societal structure. The futuristic setting used in Metropolis is based upon New York City, which Lang visited before making the film, the large skyscrapers represent man s ambition and are symbolic of the Tower of Babel, from the Old Testament, which is a story about ambition and rebellion. It is through these motif and techniques that Lang expresses his concerns for the future. Elements such as the use of chiaroscuro, use of reflective surfaces, anthropomorphism and art deco elements (seen in the long shots of the city) are all example of German Expressionism. The use of chiaroscuro in the establishing shot of the city as well as the low key lighting created long, deep shadows being cast across the city scape, which highlighted the grandness of the buildings and also brings to attention the underlying message about ambition. The Robot Maria is an example of anthropomorphism, by giving Maria s human like characteristics to the robot, Rotwang s characterisation is also another science fiction element because of the use of futuristic technology and he also tries to overstep ethical boundaries in creating the Robot Maria. Lang used all of these elements in order to convey his very clear message about the dangers that technological ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Sephora Essay Sephora is a retail chain of cosmetics and perfume stores founded in 1969 by Dominique Mandonnaud. It first started as a small perfumery in Limoges, France, called Shop 8 and was revolutionary at that time due to its concept of assisted self service . The store had an open sell setting where customers could try the products before they bought them and where the organization of the products in the store was by type, not by brand as in every other store. In 1993, Mandonnaud bought 38 retail cosmetics stores from the UK s Boots PLC chain and merged them with the 12 Shop 8 stores that the company already had at that time. The stores were then rebranded to what is known today as Sephora. Although Sephora s initial strategy was to expand within France and its surroundings such as Monaco and Luxembourg, after Sephora was acquired by Louis Vuitton MoГ«t Hennessy (LVMH ) in 1997, it started pursuing a global international strategy. With every store around the world, Sephora maintains similar products, overall atmosphere and services and every strategic decision is made by the higher management at the headquarters. Its first international store was in 1998 in New York City and the company began to expand in the European market starting with Italy. However, not every country was hospitable to Sephora s expansion such as the United Kingdom, Spain and Japan, where the company struggled. • 22. Pros And Cons Of Banning The Headscarf Should the headscarf be banned? Recently there has been a push towards banning religious symbolism from the media, especially the hijab. The hijab is a veil that Muslim women wear around their heads to cover their hair and their bosoms; it symbolizes faith and modesty. Many people fear or in some cases feel bad for people who wear the headscarf including niqabs and burqas because they are uneducated and/or ignorant of Islamic teachings which lead them to create inaccurate assumptions and accusations on the matter. Most may believe banning the headscarf will benefit the community in ways that they believe will make people feel more comfortable and they also believe that it will benefit the women who wear the hijab because of the belief that Muslim women who wear the headscarf are oppressed, however, banning the headscarf would lead to the contradiction of Canadian values, discrimination, and go against the religious beliefs of Muslims. The prohibition of the headscarf would go against Canadian values. When Steven Harper was Prime Minister, he wanted to ban the niqab, a cloth that covers the face, for citizens who work for the government and Around 82 percent of Canadians [supported] the niqab ban, ( Trudeau s Gutsy Post Victory Speech Shatters Stereotypes ). The Influence Of Haussmann On The City Of Paris Over the past few centuries, after mankind had almost fully embraced the thought of living life within the confines of a city, the people in charge of the maintenance and upkeep of the sprawling metropolises that now dominate the world scene have used methods that are equally alike and different in order to accomplish their goals. Often considered one of the first great cityplanners of pre modern times, Haussmann was given the task to recreate the sprawling mass that Paris had become into a landmark of both beauty and power. In these conditions, Emperor Louis Napoleon Bonaparte found Haussmann through an interview process and quickly had him appointed to levels of high status that practically made him the major of Paris. Haussmann was given a daunting and seemly insurmountable goal as he took over as the city planner of Paris: to reinvent the way that urban environments were built and maintained in a way that showed the power of the government while keeping to a budget. He dedicated much of his professional life to this task, and when he had taken his last breath what had been done would forever alter the way that the foundations of cities would be built. Haussmann s main methods that had positive outcomes included: creating large new boulevards, expanding the amount of green space that existed inside of the city, creating new sewers and fresh water systems, and linking the suburbs to the city. His critics, on the other hand, argue that his tactics showed little to no concern for both the historic buildings that lined the city streets and entire sections of working class neighborhoods. Recently, some of investigators have stated experimental results based on parametric studies to evaluate the surface quality characteristics such as machining force, surface roughness and delamination damage [31,34,38 112,113,114,115,116,117,118,119,120,121, and ... Design of Experiments (DOE) Over 60 to 70 % of machined products have been rejected due to lack of attention in machinability evaluation before machining. This may be lead to indirect affect on cost effective escalation in production industries. Therefore, predicting the outcome by introducing a change of the preconditions and this will be reflected on the results. Taguchi s DOE would be more effective and acceptable tool for technical investigations. The desirable machinability evaluation thoroughly obtained by statistical design of experiments (DOE). Reliable results also would be obtained by full factorial or partial factorial technique. 4.2.1 Taguchi method Taguchi methods have been widely used in scientific and engineering design. This technique is focusing to formulating the performance characteristics of parametric settings with deviation [127, 128]. In this methodology, the experimental settings (DOE) are arranged systematic as per orthogonal array (OA) that can be reduced wastage of time and minimize the number of experiments [129]. The effect of different factors on the performance characteristics in a given combination runs can be examined by using the orthogonal array (OA). Simultaneously OA experimental design will also provides a number of input factors to permit the study of their effects and interconnections with the experimental output. • 37. The Inborn Names Of The Morongo Reservation Set at the extremity of the striking San Gorgonio and San Jacinto Mountains, the Morongo Indian Reservation extends more than 35,000 acres and overlooks the desert vistas of the Banning Pass. Wild buckwheat, mesquite and chaparral still flourish here, and the ubiquitous breeze ensures that the air is always fresh and clear. One of the inborn names of the Morongo Reservation was Malki, and it was located in what was once called the Wanikik territory. In the mid 19th century, the Serrano people to the north began journeying to the Malki settlement. They brought with them the Morongo name derivative from the Serrano name for their people, Maringayam. Since the late 19th century, the Morongo Reservation has been tenanted by a mix of Cahuilla, Serrano, Luiseno and Cupeno people. Irrepressible and ingenious, the Morongo tribe has overcome many hardships. The Morongo Reservation was one of nine small reservations set aside by President Grant by Executive Order in 1865. The lands taken into trust by the federal government did not include land with access to surface water. Accordingly, tribal members had to travel miles each day just to acquire water and to forage for food. Through their industriousness and capability to survive in an unstable physical and political environment, the Morongo tribe began a small bingo venture in 1983. On February 25, 1987, the U.S. Supreme Court decided that neither the state of California nor Riverside County could control the bingo and card ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Civil Rights And Social Integration Of African Americans During the 20th century there were numerous riots, protests, and boycotts fighting for the equality and social integration of African Americans. Some of the stories of individuals endeavoring for their freedom have gone down in history resulting in laws being altered, regulations being revised, and unimaginable boundaries being broken. Sadly, in order to establish justice in this world, violence and death usually occur due to conflicting ideals. In Southern Los Angeles, even after African Americans were issued their Civil Rights, underlying racismconstructed barriers such as racial restrictive covenants that ensured that blacks were still not welcome there. The two biggest social disturbances that have taken place in the West have taken place in Los Angeles where unemployment, overcrowding, poverty, and segregation have become increasingly prevalent. The first of these social disturbances is the Rodney Kingriot of 1992 and the second is the Watts riot of 1965. The racial bigotry, which was backed by the racial restrictive covenants and racial discrimination of LAPD throughout Southern Los Angeles; as well as the events that sparked the Rodney King riot and the Watts riot; clearly illustrate the racial segregation and the overall struggle that African Americans faced during the 20th century. Between 1910 and 1920 in what is commonly known as the Great Migration among 300,000 and 1,000,000 African Americans made their way toward northern cities to try and escape the ... • 39. Historical Context Of Oppression Introduction Growing up in America it seem that success was described in a way that was very obtainable for everyone to reach as long as you worked hard and got an education. Now assessing life and some of the experiences I have had, I don t remember anyone explaining that white privilege had that exception. With a social worker perspective it helps me understand that different cultural group are associated with being vulnerable because of cultural norms in diverse ethnicities of individuals. Identifying as an African American woman has many life risk factors associated with those identities. One example that I have had personal experience with was racism. While striving to become a better person and working to obtain my bachelors degree in Social Work, I took notice to how the residents of the rural environment were uncomfortable with my identity s being African American and woman. I often got racially profiled by police and even was called hurtful names by residents due to the color of my skin and stereotypes. In further support of my experiences Draut (2017) acknowledges that hierarchies continue to marginalize black people, women and immigrants. As a Social Worker it is a part of our duty to Ethics to encourage dialogue and provide education on stereotypical biases to begin to see change in the way that diverse groups are viewed and treated. • 40. Broken Politics And Broken Dreams Broken Politics Broken Dreams What is a perfect form of government? What are politics and why do they matter? Now that you have thought about it, you may have thought this. The perfect government is one that does not internally fight itself over an opinion on a topic. It serves its citizens faithfully and cares for their thoughts and opinions. Politics are supposed to influence the government to make it better and to support its citizens. Politics helps us make a better government. Do you think America fits that description? We should not because American politics are broken and ineffective at their main purpose. Some of these systems like separation of powers, checks and balances, federalism, and pluralism, are dysfunctional and obsolete (Lynn). Most find America s political dysfunction sad and also that America s entire political system is also just as sad and dysfunctional (Nicholas). This political dysfunction makes American politics broken and it doesn t help that the key systems in use today just do not work. Any work that can be done in the government is stalled or impossible to accomplish from this. One of these systems, the American political parties, is another key system that has become broken in its own functions. Both parties have been in America almost since the beginning of our young Government. Both parties are always at odds with each other and never seem to agree on anything. Both only agree on one thing though, and it s that of America s wellness. The problem now and days is that you can t see them actually trying to make any positive difference. The constant bickering and fighting between these parties stops many positive changes from happening. And now we have to deal with internal fighting within these parties. The reason for this internal fighting is from a ununited political party. This is best shown by the implosion of the republican party. They re blowing up from the inside and don t agree with anything they want to do. The democrats are not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Thou Blind Man s Mark Analysis In the poem Thou Blind Man s Mark by Sir Philip Sidney, the speaker is struggling with his desire for someone or something. They are fighting this feeling for control over his thoughts and mind. It is shown that both the speaker and desire are constantly fighting, with neither fully able to take control. This fact is evident through Sidney s use of violent diction, personification of desire, and oxymorons. First, the diction of the poem is very violent. The words used are harsh and show that the speaker is engaged in a war against his desire. For example, on line 14 it states, Desiring naught but to kill desire (Sidney 14). The word kill is very intense and shows that the speaker feels that the only way to destroy their desire is to murder it. Thus, ending the fight they are stuck engaging in. This idea was earlier introduced in line 6, which says, With price of mangled mind, thy worthless ware (6)[.] The words mangled and worthless are further proof of this battle. Desire is leaving their mind in a mess, as is shown in the word mangled which gives off the image of something being tangled and unable to be separated. Likewise, because his mind is a mess, his thoughts are seemingly useless as shown through the use of worthless. The wares, or valuable objects, in this case are the speaker s thoughts and ideas. Their constant battle with desire has left their thoughts to be filled with nothing but thoughts of desire and those trying to subdue it, thus leaving his mind ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. The Healthful Benefits of Gratitude Essay example Gratitude has become defined as deeply appreciative attitude for kindnesses or benefits acquired. Several parts of gratitude have been identified. First, a person experiences a warm sense of appreciation toward an individual who performs a generous or desired kind act. Second, appreciation and kindness are expressed toward the person who completed the desired act. Finally, the person to whom appreciation is expressed, sensing the goodwill, is inclined to act positively and/or appreciatively toward the individual expressing gratitude. Having a grateful attitude is a lot more than just saying thank you on occasion. Grateful people show far more intensity around some positive event than do less appreciative folks. Over time, individuals with a higher outlook for gratitude oftener express grateful behavior than individuals inclined to be less thankful. Grateful people have a broader span of life events, or more life circumstances, for which they are thankful, such as spouse and children, job, health, and even life itself. Dr. Robert Emmons on the University of California at Davis has been studying gratitude for nearly ten years and is considered by many to be this world s leading authority on gratitude. He s the author of all the book, The information in this book is based on research involving thousands of people conducted by several unique researchers around the world. One of the things these reports show is that practicing gratitude can increase happiness levels as a result of around 25%. Secret cities full of power plants and innocent people called the Manhattan Project created the nuclear bomb that fell upon those Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Most of these cities consisted of women, excited because they were helping the war efforts, in hopes of getting their fathers, husbands, brothers, and friends home as soon as they could. Innocent women were recruited to work at the power plant in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. They were tricked into thinking that they were helping their American soldiers win the long, devastating, and tiresome war. They would do anything for their soldiers, some of which were family members or close friends that were sent across the ocean in a war. Helen Hall was approached in a diner in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, when she was 18, only knew that her task was to monitor the gauge needles. The Publication In 1961 Of Fritz The Fischer Controversy The publication in 1961 of Fritz Fischer book Germany s Aims in the First World War, caused a wave of reactions from other historians and the general public. His claim angered German historians because it stated that Germany was solely responsible for the outbreak of World War I because they had aggressive war aims in 1914. According to Fischer, World War Iwas the excuse Germany needed to advance these aims. Although Fischer s claim focused only on Germany the impact he made was felt among other nations who had also taken part in World War I. In turn each of these nations reacted differently to it. In this article Keiger discusses how little impact the Fischer controversy made in France and discusses the factors that made this possible. Keiger attributes the lack of impact do to the fact that France was mentioned only three times in the book, Pierre Renouvin, who was France s specialist on World War I was critical of Fischer, and the publication date of the book in France. Furthermore, Keiger goes on to mention other French historians like Jean Claude Allain and their reasons for why Fischer s claims did not make such an impact in France as they did in West Germany.
