Apollo 13, By Jeffrey Kluger And James Lovell
For my NHD project the objective was on Apollo 13. I choose this topic because Apollo 13 had
problems with their space craft on the way to the moon, a never made it there. I also like this topic
because it tells me how engineers aren t always perfect, and the can have flaws. Lost Moon: The
perilous voyage of Apollo 13, by Jeffrey Kluger and James Lovell .In April 1970 during the glory days
of the Apollo space program, NASA sent navy captain Jim Lovell and two other astronauts on
America s seventh mission to the moon. Only fifty five hours into the mission when disaster struck. A
mysterious explosion rocked the ship and soon its oxygen and power began to drain away.
Commander Lovell and his crew watched in alarm as the cockpit grew darker, the air grew thinner,
and the instruments winked out one by one.
The space crew was scared not knowing what to do or what would happen, their lives were at risk.

Thus, young designers will seek to profit from the support of investors to finance their growth.
Branded watches have continuously been well liked throughout the years and will still continue to be
trendy in the years to come for the reason that after consumers buy into a brand, they reap countless
benefits. With their knowledgeable purchasing routine, consumers continue to purchase in style brand
watches for five important reasons.
1. The primary goal consumers get branded watches is that they are very dependable. This is of unique
significance because they will know from their previous experience whether a brand is of quality or
not. After the watch confirms reliability, the brand will be bought often times by loyal customers. As a
result, the top quality brand watches will continually perform well.
2. The next cause boils down to a large extent of how the consumers regard the brand. There are many
assorted brands available in the marketplace these days but consumers continue to obtain only a
handful of the brands they trust and are familiar with. The reason for this is that when consumers
decide to buy a new watch, they normally purchase a brand which they highly regard.
3. These fashionable brand watches are known to be tough and this is the third reason why consumers
obtain branded watches. It is a considerable aspect to be aware of

Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism,...
Religions have always been extremely varied. This is true due to an ample amount of external factors,
such as location. Is it possible that there is at least one universal idea, present in all of them? This is
largely a personal interpretation, as common ground (universal ideas) has a large spectrum of
meanings, ranging from kind of similar if you look at it in the right fashion , to exactly alike . In any
case, there are many examples, and counterexamples of universal ideas between the main seven
religions: Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Daoism, and Confucianism, which will
be explored in the remainder of this essay.
Arguments could be made on how all religions share a similarity. For example, all religions were
persecuted by outsiders at some point. Perhaps the most dramatic example of this was the mass
genocide known as the Holocaust, where an estimated 6 million Jewish civilians were killed by the
Nazis during WWII. Hitler executed this final solution , as a means of finding a scapegoat for all of
Germany s failures. Another dramatic example of religious persecution is the continued persecution of
Muslims post 9/11 in America, where because of Osama bin Laden s Islamic heritage, and his Muslim
faith, all Muslims continue to be associated with him. On a nationwide scale, the Chinese government
is currently trying to suppress all religions in China (the main ones including Daoism, Buddhism,
Confucianism, and Christianity), because the government

Analysis Of Digital Nation
Technology can be used as a great tool for both education and communication. Specifically, the
younger generation is being targeted to use technology. They tend to use this technology for work,
school, communication, or entertainment. In the film Digital Nation, the producers stressed the
influence technology can have on the everyday life of a teenager. In order for one to gain an
understanding of the influence of technology, one could use Digital Nation has a reference to identify
how teenagers use technology in their everyday life and the distractions it may cause to a teenager s
focus. Today s teenagers think they are very good at multi tasking. The easy access to technology by
teenagers make them very inclined to use it. Students at the Massachusetts Institution of Technology
are the most connected people in the nation (Digital). These students believe that they are the best at
multi tasking. That means doing school work while playing a game or checking their social media.
This social group of students has learned to become literally two places at once. They are constantly
within a digital network whether that is through Facebook or another social outlet. Even through all
this technology, students are actually struggling with multi tasking. Students were tested to see how
well they could switch between tasks. The test showed that a student tested better if focusing on one
thing than one switching focus. Gathering this information reveals that a person

The Godfather Sociology
The Godfather is an interesting and moving film with everything from family disputes to organized
criminal activity. This movie is rated R and should be seen in the absence of children. The Godfather
shows how close organized crime families are and they would do anything to protect them. This
movie takes place in the 40 s and 50 s in New York. Marlon Brando portrays Vito Corleone, also
known as the Godfather. Al Pacino portrays Michael Corleone, Vito s youngest son. The Godfather
was inducted to the National Film Registry in 1990 (Library of Congress). In this movie, Coppola
showed how, within this family, it was split into two social institutions: crime and regular Italian
American family. Whoever the current Godfather is takes extra care ... Show more content on

Michael, being a college, World War II hero, he tests his strength and cunning to avenge his father s
near murder. The Corleone family has the drive for revenge, the need for respect and demand for
justice. The eldest son, Sonny, (played by James Caan) and Michael had very different views on how
the family should be ran. Sonny wanted to get the family out and go after the other families, while
Michael wanted to play it low key and continue business how the Godfather would have wanted it.
The primary business that the Corleone family was involved in was gambling and unions. Other
families felt rejected when Don Vito Corleone declined to enter the drug business saying that it was a
dirty business . A man who doesn t spend time with his family can never be called a man (Don Vito
Corleone). This line hit home for me because my job keeps me away from my family for 24 hours at a
time.
This movie also shows how a family of immigrants could create a life in America by creating an
empire of crime. Another point this movie proved was that money talks. With money and power, you
can get anything you want. During the making of The Godfather, the Italian American Civil Rights
League organized protests, because it felt that the film would only reinforce the Italian equals mobster
stereotype. And, to some extent, of course, it did (Gambino). Approximately

Hellenistic Funerary Iconography Essay
In this essay, we are going to discuss how the Hellenistic funerary iconography is different from the
Classical period. Due to the space limitation, we will only focus on grave stela and tomb funerary
monuments. The conclusion is that the stele s characteristics change considerably through the time,
and the pictures inside the funerary tombs evolve to have the typical features of the paintings from the
Hellenistic period. The period we will be looking at goes from the start of the Classical period, in the
5th century BC, until the end of the Hellenistic period, the year 31 BC. We will see how the
characteristics of the stelae and the tombs changed, and how some characteristics remained quite
similar. It was decided to only work with those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

number of objects available sometimes can be difficult to see how they evolved through time, however
it is possible to see some patterns that happened in different places around the same period. The stele
have evolved throughout the years considerably. As the mind of the population changed, the needs to
represent certain aspects in the graves were also different. The first important change we are going to
look at is the size and shape of the stele. Starting in Asia Minor and Aegean Greece , the stele started
to become smaller than the ones that we see in the Classical period. Both in the Classic and Hellenistic
period, the deceased are represented in the grave. One important difference is that in the Hellenistic
ones, the people are below a naiskos , which is a temple with columns at both sides. This way the stele
have both some characteristics from the Classic time and some innovation. This was a very common
practice during the Hellenistic period. Some have inscriptions in the upper part of the grave and they

George Orwell s Shooting An Elephant
An iconic figure in the world of controversial novelists, Eric Arthur Blair was known more commonly
by his pen name George Orwell. He was very outspoken and blunt about his views against the
tyrannical British rule and openly opposed its nature. One of the reasons why he was acclaimed as one
of the best writers of the era was because of his lucid prose and the other was the aptness of his work.
George Orwell wanted to target the British rule and to support the idea of a Democratic Government.
In the essay Shooting an Elephant , Orwell shows the flaw in the system and how being in power has
left him without any power to make his own decision at all. When the white man turn tyrant it is his
own freedom that he destroys (Orwell). The essay interests everyone as it points out the necessity of
democracy which has been a widely debated issue for ages. George Orwell targeted masses all over
the world through his writing because the essay was published in the magazine which was available
everywhere around the Globe. Although George Orwell uses some harsh words to describe natives
which undermine his argument however he explains his viewpoint through a mixture of persuasive
and convincing language, a well structured essay and an anti thesis approach to show that Imperialism
destroys the people and the system. In his essay, George Orwell narrates his personal experience to
reach a conclusion that when white man turns tyrant it is his own freedom that he destroys

Changing Face Of The Australian Family
Over the last five decades there have been many studies, reports, papers written and statistics collected
regarding the changing face of the Australian Family. Much of this information focuses on living
arrangements, relationships such as marriage and de facto, one parent households, working mothers
and fertility rates to name a few. There are several factors that have caused variance to the structure
and values of the Australian family including the increase of divorce, remarriage, same sex
relationships, one parent families and blended families. This paper will look at the extent of change
that the Australian family has undergone in the last 50 years, focusing on two key issues, firstly the
impact of women entering the workforce and secondly the decrease of fertility rates.
A definition of family is required to understand the parameters by which majority of studies have been
evaluated. For the purpose of data collection, The Australian Bureau of Statistics defines family as the
following:
Two or more persons, one of whom is at least 15 years of age, who are related by blood, marriage
(registered or de facto), adoption or fostering, and who are usually resident in the same household.
Separate families are identified for each married or de facto couple and for each one parent family in
the household (ABS, 1992b).
Another term, nuclear family is commonly used and describes the family as male/father,
female/mother and children. Saggers and Sims (2005), state that the

When asked what happens to employees that violate the company s values, Ursula quickly and frankly
says these employees are fired even if they are high performing associates. There is little difference
between the person Ursula Burns is and how she runs Xerox. The Core Values of Xerox are stated as:
Succeed through satisfied customers; Aspire to deliver quality and excellence in everything they do;
Require a premium on assets; Use technology to develop market leadership; Value the employees; and
behave responsibly as a corporate citizen. These values are said to be the moral compass by which the
company does business with honesty and integrity. Ursula is direct and outspoken in her expectations
of the employees of Xerox, her values and ethical beliefs surely resonate with company. Ms. Burns
beliefs there are certain standards that have to be met to ensure high performance and integrity.
Clearly communicating the possibilities, setting the agenda and the tone of organization all contribute
to the employees holding the values of the company close to heart, and remembering to be ethical in

Romeo And Juliet Comparison To Zeffirelli s
Luhrmann uses lighting more effectively than Zeffirelli to portray the mood and emotions in the story
of Romeo and Juliet. To begin with, Zeffirelli s use of lighting is very weak in his version of the
movie, as he does not change the lighting to suit the characters behaviors and the overall feeling of the
movie at the time. For example, during the fight scene where Tybalt fights Mercutio the lighting does
not change, the light remains clear and bright even after Mercutio dies. This shows that lighting in
Zeffirelli s version is not as powerful as the lighting does not reflect on the characters and how they
are acting but just as a light source so you could see what s happening in the movie. On the other
hand, Luhrmann s use of lighting was

Obtaining Capital For Expansion Into New Markets
Obtaining Capital A company needs to obtain capital for expansion into new markets and it wants to
obtain these funds from external sources. The ways in which company chooses to obtain these funds
depends upon the short term versus long term financing strategies of the company. As a finance
manager for a Fortune 500 company, the plan is to borrow approximately $100 million within the next
year, and the manager must present to the board the best option for this large financing. By evaluating
the different types of funding options, the finance manager can make the best informed decision for
this capital funding. It is ideal for a company to maximize the total value of the company and
minimize the overall cost of capital (Shim, Siegel Dauber, 2008). These decisions include whether to
issue debt securities, or obtain financing from individuals and whether the funding should be secured
or unsecured. Any capital structure decisions will take into account the nature of the business, strategic
plan of the company, its current capital structure and its anticipated growth.
Debt Financing When a company is deciding whether to use debt financing, it is important to look at
the overall capital structure as each type of financing has its own advantages and disadvantages. A
rapidly growing company needs flexibility in how it structures its financing. Long term debt financing
is financing that extends for more than five years, includes mortgages or bonds, and depends highly

Molybdenum Essay
Molybdenum is a chemical element with symbol Mo and atomic number 42. The name is from Neo
Latin molybdenum, from Ancient Greek Μόλυβδος molybdos, meaning lead, since its ores were
confused with lead ores. The mass number is 95.94, number of neutrons is 54, the electron
configuration is [Kr]4d⁵5s¹. Molybdenum is used as glass furnace electrodes due to its high melting
point. It is also used in the petroleum industry, to catalyze the removal of organic sulfur compounds in
coal liquification and gas liquification processes. Molybdenum is an essential trace element for
animals and plants. molybdenum can cause diarrhea, growth retardation, infertility, low birth weight,
and gout; it can also affect the lungs, kidneys, and liver. The Climax Mine is located approximately 13
miles northeast of Leadville, Colorado and is a porphyry molybdenum deposit with molybdenite as the
primary sulfide mineral. The other major source of molybdenum is by product from copper mines in
the western part of the United States, Canada, Chile, Mexico and Peru. Molybdenum is a valuable
alloying agent, contributing to quenched and tempered steels ability to harden and toughness.
molybdenum has been used as electrodes for electrically heated glass furnaces and forehearths. As a

Fayol s Functions of Management
To what extent are Fayol s functions of management relevant in today s predominantly service
economy? Discuss.
Fayol s functions of management are as relevant today, just as they have been a century ago, both
theoretically and practically. Though under harsh scrutiny by some theorists as an oversimplified
theory of management, this essay argues that Fayol s functions are not just part of a grand theory, they
form a basis for all managerial work. In addition, Fayol s functions are seen as flexible and malleable,
adding to their application to today s world. This essay also suggests that today s predominantly
service economy, as fast paced and ephemeral as it is, is a stark proof of Fayol s theory s success. The
position is taken that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Further, this explains how Fayol s functions can be suited to a variety of managerial and organisational
contexts.
It is the combinational property of flexibility and authority that make Fayol s four functions relevant
today, even in a predominantly service economy. Managers today have had to learn to plan and
organise better than before in order to offer services beyond the physical product, they had to learn to
become stronger leaders in order to push away from traditional bricks and mortar markets and have
had to learn to be controlling in ensuring a smooth transition. Furthermore, they allowed managers to
become organisational experts, rather than skills experts, and hence the ability to work with large
markets and economies than physical products and machinery (Pryor Taneja, 2010). In addition, these
four functions have been so extensively used that management today is virtually synonymous with
them, if not structured around them (Lamond, 2003).
It is useful then, to see what happens when Fayol s functions are not observed, as in the case of the
Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDP). In this heavily service organisation (offering anything
from medication to dietary health programs to planning for the state s health future), the repercussions
of ignoring Fayol s principles were a public scandal circulating

The Founding Fathers Of Virtue Ethics
Virtue ethics is considered as one of the three major approaches in normative ethics. The founding
fathers of Virtue ethics are Plato and more particularly Aristotle. It suffered a momentary eclipse
during the nineteenth century but re emerged in the late 1950 s in Anglo American philosophy (Virtue
Ethics , 2012). The re emergence had an effect on the other two approaches. The consequence of this
is the fact that is now necessary to distinguish virtue ethics from virtue theory. Kant s virtue theory has
conveyed philosophers attention to Kant s Doctrine of Virtue and the utilitarian s have developed
consequentialist virtue theories. A virtue such as honesty or generosity is not just a tendency to do
what is honest or generous, nor

Management Performance Evaluation Of Employees
Managers s play a huge role in performance evaluation of employees. There are several factors that
contribute to how managers assess performance evaluation, these components are orientation, training,
development, feedback, and annual performance appraisals (). Human Resource managers are
important to the performance appraisal process, because they make sure that the appraisal is fair,
detailed, and the managers are handling the appraisals professionally(). In order to properly ensure
that the performance appraisals are conducted in a fairly, HR managers need to make sure that the

Performance evaluations can also aid in helping an organization reach their future goals. They allow
managers and employee to sit down and think strategically on how the organization can reach their
goals in the upcoming year. Not only does it give an opportunity to achieve the organization s goals,
but it also can encourage employees to set their own standards and goals on themselves for the next
work year. Using performance appraisal can ultimately assist organizations on reaching their strategic
goals and giving them an internal advantage against competition. If performance appraisals are not
done properly, this could lead to many negative consequences for an organization. The first thing to
recognize when doing performance appraisal it takes a long period of time to properly conduct
performance evaluations. It can become extremely stressful and overwhelming to managers, because
they have to evaluate all of their employees. This can lead to managers having a negative attitude
towards performance reviews. Another issue with performance appraisals is if they are mishandled
during the process. If a manager is poorly trained and is not knowledgeable in how to properly carry
out these appraisals, a bad review could lead to an extremely negative and hostile work environment
for the manager and employees. This could also lead to possible legal issues for the organization if
they are not careful about the procedure in which they use

Throughout Europe, similar horrific tales of slaughter and abuse began to surface as Adolf Hitler

Analysis Of When You See One By Stanley Fish
Interpretive Communities What is an interpretive community? An interpretive community is a
theoretical concept created by professor and author Stanley Fish, he explores this theory throughout
his essay How to Recognize a Poem When You See One from his book Is There a Text in This Class?
Fish identifies an interpretive community as a group of individuals who interpret texts similarly
because of shared social experiences and positions. He further explains how interpretive communities
function and why interpretive communities are vital in creating meaning. Fish s main argument is that
interpretation is not the art of construing but the art of constructing (Fish 327). Fish portrays this
argument by asserting three main claims: that interpreters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This interpretive strategy is available because interpretive communities have background knowledge
on what they re giving meaning to. The background knowledge can be as simple as knowing how a
classroom setting works, Fish demonstrates. Fish s argument that in order to use interpretive strategies
a certain amount of background knowledge is required is portrayed with another effective anecdote, he
references the action of raising your hand while in a classroom. Of course to those who ve had
classroom experiences and understand the norms of a classroom setting understand that this gesture is
used when a student wants to speak or ask a question during class, but to someone who has never once
been in a classroom setting would have absolutely no idea what this gesture implies. The person
without classroom experience could presume that the student in the back of the classroom flailing his
arm in the air is simply trying to swat a fly or point to the fluorescent ceiling lights. Without that
cultural background knowledge it s hard to interpret what it is that the students who s raising his hand
is doing, the same goes with interpretive communities. An interpretive community has the ability to
give meaning and purpose to a situation, text, poem, etc. because they have required previous
knowledge and experiences that have allowed them to do such. Referencing back to the

regards to the grand span of things, is truly known. As time continues to pass, ancient artifacts

Almost everyone at some point in their life has experienced what appears to be love whether it be
towards a parent, family member, or significant other. Just as fate is a popular concept in our readings,
love can also be seen in nearly any story. One story in particular that features this concept is the Iliad
by Homer. The story revolves around a prince from Troy stealing the wife of a Greek king who he
appears to love. This love drives the two nations to go to war with the warrior Achilles eventually
killing Hector in the end with a blow to the gullet offered swift and certain death (p. 266). Another
story in which love is a prominent aspect is Oedipus the King in which the love of his wife as well as
the shame brought by his wife being his mother leads him to gouge out his own eyes. The notion of
injuring oneself out of love is a concept that also can be seen in many works of literature and popular
culture as well with Oedipus s action being a prime example. The concept of love is one that can link
people with nothing else in common and provide a means for anyone to find mutual ground with a
story. Although the story of Oedipus and Hector are vastly different in overall plot, the concept of love
is important in that it links them

As a matter of fact, his route to the presidency was more circumstantial than intentional. In 1973, Vice
President Spiro Agnew resigned from office due to a kick back scandal ( Gerald R. Ford Timeline 3).
President Richard Nixon then decided to select Ford as the new vice president, knowing that Ford s
reputation in Congress would make him the only candidate both houses and parties would accept. As
the vice president, Ford was not very active. Even more so, he intentionally chose to stay out of the
way; perhaps because he did not want to be associated with the actions and policies of the Nixon
administration. Next, as is popular knowledge, President Nixon resigned after the Watergate scandal
came to light, leaving Ford to become the President. Gerald R. Ford was sworn in on August 9, 1974,
as the United State s 38th president. In his inauguration speech, Ford was open about the bizarre
circumstances that led to him holding the position. He acknowledged to the people that he was not
chosen by them for the job as President. He continues to say, If you have not chosen me by secret
ballot, neither have I gained office by any secret promises. I have not campaigned either for the
Presidency or the Vice Presidency. I have not subscribed to any partisan platform. He spoke these

Analysis Of The Poem Long Black Song By Richard Wright
W.E.B Du Bois makes points of having a double consciousness and being behind a veil. While Booker
T. Washington points out that there is a dignity to be found in fruits from labor. In the reading of Long
Black Song, by Richard Wright, he uses both of these points in his text to make the story come alive.
Although, creatively both Du Bois and Washington s points can be found hidden within the text; it is
clear within this short story that Wright leaned to agree more with Du Bois points than he did with
Washington s points. W.E.B. Du Bois presents two ideas within his text, the idea that African
Americans live behind a veil and the idea that they constantly struggle with a double consciousness.
Double consciousness to Du Bois was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I said that any individual who learned to do something better than anybody else learned to do a
common thing in an uncommon manner had solved his problem, regardless of the colour of his skin,
and that in proportion as the Negro learned to produce what other people wanted and must have, in the
same proportion would he be respected. (Washington 76 77) Washington is basically saying dignity in
labor means that African American men will earn respect if they provide white men with something
useful, such as things you can get from working hard in a field and selling it to white men. This will
show them you are valuable and therefore they will respect you. The right to be respected by white
man has been earned and thus it will be given. Long Black Song starts out with hints towards Du Bois
idea of the veil with the lines, She saw green fields wrapped in the thickening gloam. It was as if they
had left the earth, those fields, and were floating slowly skyward. (Wright 65) The terms such as
thickening and floating give the image of being behind or on something. The idea that the fields are
being pulled into a veil. These lines give a bit of foreshadowing to the story when you read between
them leading us to whether Wright will side with Du Bois or Washington at the end of the story. Also

Courage in to Kill a Mockingbird
I wanted to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun. What
kinds of heroism and courage are shown in To Kill a Mockingbird? Discuss.
Courage is defined as the quality of mind or spirit enabling one to meet danger or opposition with
fearlessness. According to Atticus Finch, one of the main characters in To Kill a Mockingbird,
Courage is when you know you re licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and you see it
through no matter what. (pg.121). Harper Lee clearly portrays the theme of courage in her novel, To
Kill a Mockingbird. One likes to think of a hero, as strong, brave, and meeting all challenges head on.

When Atticus took the case, he went up against Maycomb, a generally prejudiced town, in order to
defend Tom. He understood that taking the case would make him an object of ridicule and that no one
would forgive him for believing a black man s word over a white man s. Even his own sister expresses
disapproval at his decision, practically telling him he was bringing disgrace to the family.
Nevertheless, no matter how much his reputation suffered, he did not change his mind. Standing up
for his morals and ethics was more important than what people thought about him. From the very start
Atticus knows he will not win the case however he does his job and finishes what he set out to do.
Atticus s strong sense of morality and justice motivates him to defend Tom Robinson with
determination, giving it all he has. He shows this when he says, Simply because we were licked a
hundred years before we started is no reason for us not to try and win. (pg.82). He says this to Scout
after she comes home from school angry at Cecil Jacobs for making fun of Atticus in the schoolyard.
Atticus tells her to fight with her head instead of her fists. He wants the people of Maycomb to hear
the truth about Tom, That boy may go to the chair, but he s not going till the truth s told. (pg.159).
Atticus is putting everything a man holds dear, dignity, respect, honor and status, on the line to protect
Tom. He later shows more bravery when he goes to the jailhouse to

Sequence And Sequence Of Proteins
Sequence Information of Proteins
Just as members in the same family often resemble each other, similarly structured molecules are often
grouped in the same category. There are several methods of comparing amino acid sequencing and
determining how closely they are related. A simple example is the sequence comparison method.
Sequence databases are searched for a specific amino acid sequence of unknown characteristics. A set
of molecules that are similar in structure can give insight into the properties of the unknown sequence
of amino acids.
To determine the similarity between 2 amino acid sequences, one can apply sequence alignment. This
method aligns the 2 sequences and slides them past each other one amino acid at a time and calculates
what position has the greatest amount of matched residues. However, there is a drawback to this
method in that it does not show all of the possible alignments. To counteract this, one can induce a gap
in one of the sequences to increase the total possibilities of matches. The gap will compensate for the
insertions of deletions of sequences in a gene that is absent in the second sequence.
However, simply comparing the identities of amino acids cannot account for everything. To increase
the accuracy in the comparing two sequences there are 2 kinds of substitutions that can be made to
further progress the determination of amino acids. The first is a conservative substitution which
substitutes one amino acid with another amino acid that is

Essay on Russian Composers
Russian composers are often mentioned in history as the most influential in the world. With style
unlike any other, Russians are able to capture mood through a unique ability to capture exactly what
they feel. Exactly how the Russians are able to do this is unknown, though through this, the greatest
composers have turned out to be Russian. Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff and Shostakovich are all able to
write and portray the most detailed feelings and moods, and it is to them that we owe the advancement
of all music.
Tchaikovsky is one of the most beloved composers in history. An inspired craftsman of melody,
orchestration and tonal color, he wrote in an astonishing variety of musical forms, from symphonies to

At the same time, he was coming into his own as a composer, writing his Fourth Symphony (1877)
and other works. He also was starting to experience chronic depression. Many music historians say
this was in response to hiding his homosexuality, while others point to a clinical conditional condition
which was only exacerbated by his chaotic personal life (Sadie, 94).
He wrote the magnificent Violin concerto in D in 1878, and endured its rejection by Leopold Auer,
who deemed the work unplayable and followed with the Symphony No 6 and other legendary works
(Mason, 70). Throughout the 1880s, his fame spread to Europe and America, and his financial position
improved. In 1889 Madame von Meck suddenly, for unknown reasons, cut off her financial support, a
blow from which Tchaikovsky never recovered (Mason, 70).
In the same year he saw the premiere of Sleeping Beauty, a work which brought even higher acclaim
to the now famous composer (Sadie, 94).
In 1891 to 1892 he toured Europe and the United States, conducting concerts of his music and
winning praises from the public as well as the critics (Mason, 70). Never a robust person, in constant
strain from mental and physical disorders, Tchaikovsky died in 1893 under mysterious circumstances.

Pierz. It was mid October sothe mornings had a bite to them and the days were cool. We woke up at
6:00 in the morning so we could get our rabbits, which we were bringing to the auction to sell, settled
in their cages. We had filled each cage with hay the night before so they would be warm for the ride
there and for the time they d be stuck sitting in their cages. After we loaded them up, we headed to the
auction. Once we arrived at the auction, we brought the bunnies over to the people who tagged their
cages and brought them out to the barn to be stacked up next to other cages. The other cages were
filled with exotic birds and some other rabbits. In some of the pens inside the auction barn, they had
pigs, goats, sheep, and emus. The outside pens had a variety of cow breeds like the shaggy highlanders
and brahmas. There were also horses, ponies, alpacas, buffalo, and llamas. We alway arrive early, so
people are still coming in with animals they would be auctioning off that day. My Mom and I went
into the auction barn to see if they had anything interesting out there that we might like to acquire. As
we walked through the barn, we saw some golden pheasants and some peacocks, so my mom wrote
their tag numbers down on her mini notebook that she brought along with her. We also checked out
the rabbits that other people had brought to see if there were any that we were interested in.

Functions Of Currency Exchange Markets
1. Explain 4 functions of currency exchange markets. Provide a thorough example (real or
hypothetical) of each type of function in action in business.
a. Currency Conversion: is a way to execute a transaction by converting one currency into another.
This takes place when you/your company decides to invest in international affairs. When engaging in
a foreign investment you must convert your US dollars into the foreign currency when making a sales
and the opposite would happen if the country was buying a product from you.
i. For example, Sanofi Aventis, a French pharmaceutical company, wants to sell a new medication for
diabetes to the United States. The American customer wants to pay for the medication in dollars, the
American currency, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Motors establishes a contract with a local bank to exchange the payment in one month at an agreed
upon exchange rate specified on December 16th. Now Toyota Motors will know how many yen the
payment will be worth on January 16th.
c. Currency Arbitrage: is the instantaneous purchase and sale of a currency in different markets for
profit. This type of currency exchange market is frequently used by experienced traders in foreign
exchange markets, along with large investors. Using this type of exchange market maximizes oyur
profits and allows you to evaluate three currencies at a time and brings the market into an equilibrium.
i. For example, as you are investing in the New York Stock exchange you notice that the Malaysian
ringgit is lower in Greece than it is in New York. As a trader you can buy riggits in Greece, sell them
in New York, and earn a profit on the spread. Now the process of this trade is not worth making if the
spread between the value of the riggit, the value in Greece and the value in New York is not greater
than the cost of conducting the transaction. ii. Interest Arbitrage: is a profit motivated purchase and
sale of interest paying securities

LH Mouse Model
Comparative analysis of LH levels and pulse frequency in mouse models
Abstract:
Estrogen is the primary female sex hormone and is responsible for the development and regulation of
the female reproductive system and of secondary sex characteristics. Produced primarily by the
ovaries, estrogen binds to and activates estrogen receptor beta (ER) a nuclear receptor. Estrogen plays
an important role in the hypothalamic pituitary gonadal (HPG) axis by acting on gonadotropin
releasing hormone (GnRH) neurons located within the hypothalamus. In females, a cyclic reversal of
estrogen feedback produces a positive feedback loop at both the hypothalamic and pituitary levels.
This is coupled with an increase in pituitary sensitivity to GnRH, which produces the massive surge of
luteinizing hormone (LH) that triggers ovulation. However, LH is not only secreted during this surge it
is secreted in a pulsatile manner otherwise. This paper will focus on the implications on LH pulsatility
by knocking out ER, as well as by removing the ovaries.

In both the male and female, the coordinated actions of hormones from the hypothalamus, anterior

Estrogen has a bimodal effect on the hypothalamus with both inhibitory and stimulatory influences on
GnRH secretion. The stimulatory effect of estrogen is seen at the end of the follicular phase where
estrogen triggers the preovulatory GnRH surge. The ability of estrogen to induce a surge declines with
age in female rodents and women. This appears to be due in large part to a decrease in estrogen
induction of GnRH neurons, particularly in rodents. The inhibitory effect of estrogen on GnRH
secretion and GnRH gene expression has been show in in in vivo studies indicating that estrogen
inhibits GnRH pulse amplitude in the early follicular and luteal phase of the

The Novel Three Brothers Struggle Against The Outdated...
All through time, consecutive generations have rebelled against the values and traditions of their
elders. In all countries, including China, novel generations have required to find a different conduit
than that of their previous leaders. Conventional values become obsolete and are replace with what the
younger society deems as noteworthy. Family concentrates on this very subject. In the novel, three
brothers struggle against the outdated Confucian values of their elders. Alike in their dislike of the
traditional Confucian system of their grandfather, yet very different in their interactions with him and
others, begin to reach beyond the ancient values of Confucianism and strive for a breath of freedom.
Their struggles against the old values lead to pain, suffering and eventually achievement for the three
of them, however at a harsh price for two brothers.
The story of the first brother, Chueh hsin, is unquestionably the most upsetting and saddest in this
novel. Cheuh hsin has lived his entire life in reverence and constant conformity with his elders.
Although he is an enlightened person and does not unconditionally agree with many of the Confucian
values, which he follows, he feels that his position in the social hierarchy of the family leaves him no
other choice. As the first son of the first son he is the head of his household. As a result, he is forced to
take on responsibilities he does not want. For this very reason, his two younger brothers, Cheuh min

Psychological And Social Process Theory Paper
There are many theories that attempt to explain the cause of crime. Two theories for the cause of crime
are the Psychological and Social Process Theory. According to Schmalleger (2015), psychological
theorist believe crime is the result of inappropriate behavioral conditioning or a diseased mind (p. 78).
Social Process Theory claims crime results from failure of self direction, from inadequate social roles,
or from associating with others who are already criminals (Schmalleger, 2015, p. 103). Another theory
is Conflict theory, Schmalleger (2015) states that according to conflict theory crime is a natural
consequence of social, political, and economic inequities (p. 77). Another approach to crime causation
is the Sociological theories which argue the individual is a product of his or her environment
(Schmalleger, 2015, p. 103).
Conflict theories are based on the belief that conflict among groups is unavoidable. According to
Schmalleger (2015), conflict theorists highlight the stress that arise among a social group as they
compete for resources and survival (p. 99). Conflict theorist believe that laws are tools of power which
further the interests of those who make them. This allows for those in power to gain control of
resources and deny accesses to disenfranchised groups (Schmalleger, 2015, p. 99).
Sociological theories on crime causation are pretty different, but they are all built on certain
foundations. According to Schmalleger (2015), sociological theorist

strong brand personality to make customers remember it and separate it from its competitors. Red Bull

exercise selectivity about which aspects of the environment they perceive (Schiffman et al., 2014),
Red Bull could enter the evoked set of consumers as long as it could catch customers insights. Besides

Q3: What could influence a consumer to stop purchasing Red Bull? If consumers do not notice

it is the Nissan Altima that offers the most room, even though the Maxima is recognized as the brand s
flagship sedan. I recently had the Nissan Maxima in my press fleet rotation (that review will be

J1100 methodology and that archetype was developed more than five decades ago. As the chart

That hashtag stands for four door sports car, a marketing initiative that Nissan has used with the
Maxima previously. I could have stirred the pot further by adding the midsize Hyundai Sonata to the
list just above the Nissan Altima. Had I done so, you would have seen that the EPA classifies the
Sonata as a large car as it has 122.4 cubic feet of interior volume or nearly 10 cubic feet more than the

Chris Van Allsburg showed him some of his illustrations as part of a casual after dinner conversation.
He was immediately impressed and gave the number of Walter Lorraine, an editor with Houghton
Mifflin Company, to him and asked him to call him. When he finally contacted Mr. Lorraine, the man
was so impressed with his drawings that he convinced Chris Van Allsburg that he should venture into
children s book writing.
His first book was The Garden of Abdul Gasazi in 1979. He showed the world that he was a talented
storybook writer. The public responded by buying more than a million copies. This book also received
a Caldecott Medal Award. He would follow up with wonderful books such as The Mysteries of Harris

How would you rate Xi Jinping s visit to the US (Sept.24 25) on a scale of 1 to 10 where 1 is utter

On September 25th, 2015, Chinese President Xi Jinping made a state visit to the United States in a
gesture meant to reciprocate United States President Barack Obama s trip to Beijing last November in
2014. The visit served as an opportunity to bolster US China relations and cooperation among a
variety of global and bilateral issues, endeavoring to close their discord and strive for progress. It also
served as a strategic move to improve the relationship between America and China so that they stay on
track with their Bilateral Investment Treaty negotiations. The two leaders both addressed issues such
as China s alleged cyberespionage, military relations, people to people exchange, and China s act of
intimidation in the off the Alaskan coast. Moreover, Xi Jinping intended to meet with American tech
leaders with a desire to boost the economies of both nations. The question at hand is the measure of
success this visit and to what extent it lived up to its intention of expanding and deepening cooperation

Biosynthesis of glycyrrhizin is not fully elucidated at gene level. The early stages of triterpenoid
saponin biosynthesis via isoprenoid pathway involve the dimerization of two molecules of farnesyl
diphosphate catalyzed by squalene synthase, epoxidase mediated oxidation then produces 2,3
oxidosqualene. The first diversifying step in triterpenoid biosynthesis is the cyclization of 2,3
oxidosqualene a common substrate of oxidosqualene cyclases (OSCs) and a precursor of both
triterpenes and sterols [Abe et al., 1993]. The biosynthesis of glycyrrhizin involves the initial
cyclization of 2, 3 oxidosqualene by a specific OSC, β amyrin synthase (bAS), to the primarily
oleanane triterpene β amyrin which is one of the most commonly occurring triterpenes in plants. The
subsequent steps involve a series of oxidative reactions at positions C 11 (two step oxidation) and C
30 (three step oxidation), followed by glycosyl transfers to the C 3 hydroxyl group.
Genes involved in the early stages of glycyrrhizin biosynthesis, namely, squalene synthase and bAS,
have been functionally isolated from G. glabra [Hayashi et al., 1999, 2001]. The bAS gene has also
been functionally isolated from several other plants including Arabidopsis thaliana [Shibuya et al.,
2009], Avena strigosa [Qi et al., 2004], Lotus japonicus [Sawai et al., 2006], and Medicago truncatula

ability to teach its population about waste management. Consequently, the average American is
remarkably wasteful. Americans are wasteful as they throw away a substantial amount of food every
year, they use unnecessary amounts of fresh water, and waste electricity. Americans waste a vast
amount of trash annually. The World Wildlife Foundation states, About 1.3 billion tons of food are
wasted each year four times the amount needed to feed the more than 800+ million people who are
malnourished (World Wildlife). Americans waste over one billion tons of food because they are
uneducated on consequences of throwing away food. For example, the harmful gases that are
produced when food decomposes or even letting others go hungry. Not only does wasting food affect
others, it can affect oneself as well. The NRDC states, Americans discard 40 percent of the food
supply every year, and the average American family of four ends up throwing away an equivalent of
up to $2,275 annually in food (Huffington Post). Many Americans throw away their household foods
because they are too busy to cook it. Also, Americans tend to buy their food in bulk, causing a
majority of their food to perish. Author Jennifer McClellan states, Sixty percent of people in the Johns
Hopkins study said they threw away food out of a desire to eat the freshest foods (McClellan).

The City Of Arvada And The City Of Compton
The two cities selected for this report are to include the city of Arvada and the City of Compton. Both
coming from a long distance, the reports and statistical number between the two are jaw dropping. The
major broad topics that will be focused on will include but not limited to population, education, and
wealth statistics such as poverty level and income level.
The first city selected for this report is found just north west of the capital of Colorado. The city of
Arvada, was founded in 1870 and incorporated in 1904. A brief history and statistic on the city of
Arvada is that the city has grown in population size tremendously. Arvada has boomed in population
size in recent years, for example according to the U.S Census Bureau the total ... Show more content

The word megaregion could be used because as of last year the population has grown roughly by
116,000 residents for its 32 square millage.
The second city also selected for this report is located just south of Los Angeles California, the City of
Compton founded on May 11, 1888 was the eighth city to be incorporated. A brief history on Compton
and its population is that according to the U.S Census Bureau in 2010, the total population size was at
96,455 residents. This number of residents is lower than what was expected to see in California. After
further investigation in the website, after five year span in 2015, the population of Compton raised to
97,955 residents. Although the smaller population growth isn t what it seems to be like in Arvada
Colorado. But in 2016 in Compton California the total population size decreased to 97,550 residents.
A decrease in 400 residents within the one year span. Both cities roughly over 1,000 miles apart do
share some similarities and differences between them.
The first pivotal concept between the two cities is on education. Education is key to moving up within
the world. Being more educated in this life means that you gain status, and gain power. Education is a
solution for many problems that may arise in the future and have a significant impact on various
studies including incarceration rate. Nonetheless, the data found on the percentage of high school
graduates between these two cities is very important

One Of The Most Important Elements In Dracula
Jeffrey Hinkle
Professor Ramirez
English 303B
13 July 2016
Quiz 2 on Dracula One of the most important elements in Dracula is imagery, and I believe Bram
Stroker uses sleeping to show weakness in his characters and to develop a sense of danger. Uniquely,
in the Victorian age, people believed a person s mind was only healthy when they were asleep, and
their bodies were safer when awake. Of course, this goes hand in hand with the story so far in Dracula,
because the majority of the danger in Dracula takes place at nighttime when people are sleeping.
Furthermore, I believe this may be why Stroker has placed such a big emphasis on sleeping
throughout Dracula; in fact, Stroker demonstrates how sleeping puts a person in their most vulnerable
state. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nay, let me warn you with all seriousness, that should you leave these rooms you will not by chance
go to sleep in any other part of the castle (34 35). From the start, Stroker tells Johnathan Harker it is
unwise to sleep anywhere in the castle, besides his room. Of course, this gives me an unnerving
feeling and a curious thought as to what else is in the castle, but I know it would be wise for Harker to
heed Dracula s words. In the end, Harker did not listen to Dracula s words and he found himself in
grave danger when he awoke to three blood thirsty women standing in the same room he fell asleep in.
However, Dracula stepped in and saved Harker, but I found out exactly how weak a person is when
they are asleep in an unsecured

Point Of View In Carver s What The Doctor Said
Due to the fact that this is a deeply personal subject, the use of first person is very fitting. From verses
16 to 23, one can see the narrator making personal reflections that the reader is privy to thanks to the
first person narration. Even though they are not too explicit, one can see that this news has forever
changed him, and that this is why he is so ecstatic about the dreadful news. Therefore, the first person
point of view also serves to evidence the intimacy of the subject. Finally, the use of the first person
point of view in Carver s What the Doctor Said allows the writer to express the lack of communication
in modern society. Even though there is much communication in the poem, suggested from the onset
by the title, it is very

Thus, young designers will seek to profit from the support of investors to finance their growth. Branded watches have continuously been well liked throughout the years and will still continue to be trendy in the years to come for the reason that after consumers buy into a brand, they reap countless benefits. With their knowledgeable purchasing routine, consumers continue to purchase in style brand watches for five important reasons. 1. The primary goal consumers get branded watches is that they are very dependable. This is of unique significance because they will know from their previous experience whether a brand is of quality or not. After the watch confirms reliability, the brand will be bought often times by loyal customers. As a result, the top quality brand watches will continually perform well. 2. The next cause boils down to a large extent of how the consumers regard the brand. There are many assorted brands available in the marketplace these days but consumers continue to obtain only a handful of the brands they trust and are familiar with. The reason for this is that when consumers decide to buy a new watch, they normally purchase a brand which they highly regard. 3. Is it possible that there is at least one universal idea, present in all of them? This is largely a personal interpretation, as common ground (universal ideas) has a large spectrum of meanings, ranging from kind of similar if you look at it in the right fashion , to exactly alike . In any case, there are many examples, and counterexamples of universal ideas between the main seven religions: Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Daoism, and Confucianism, which will be explored in the remainder of this essay. Arguments could be made on how all religions share a similarity. For example, all religions were persecuted by outsiders at some point. Perhaps the most dramatic example of this was the mass genocide known as the Holocaust, where an estimated 6 million Jewish civilians were killed by the Nazis during WWII. Hitler executed this final solution , as a means of finding a scapegoat for all of Germany s failures. Another dramatic example of religious persecution is the continued persecution of Muslims post 9/11 in America, where because of Osama bin Laden s Islamic heritage, and his Muslim faith, all Muslims continue to be associated with him. On a nationwide scale, the Chinese government is currently trying to suppress all religions in China (the main ones including Daoism, Buddhism, Confucianism, and Christianity), because the government ... As a finance manager for a Fortune 500 company, the plan is to borrow approximately $100 million within the next year, and the manager must present to the board the best option for this large financing. By evaluating the different types of funding options, the finance manager can make the best informed decision for this capital funding. It is the combinational property of flexibility and authority that make Fayol s four functions relevant today, even in a predominantly service economy. Managers today have had to learn to plan and organise better than before in order to offer services beyond the physical product, they had to learn to become stronger leaders in order to push away from traditional bricks and mortar markets and have had to learn to be controlling in ensuring a smooth transition. Furthermore, they allowed managers to become organisational experts, rather than skills experts, and hence the ability to work with large markets and economies than physical products and machinery (Pryor Taneja, 2010). In addition, these four functions have been so extensively used that management today is virtually synonymous with them, if not structured around them (Lamond, 2003). It is useful then, to see what happens when Fayol s functions are not observed, as in the case of the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDP). Of course to those who ve had classroom experiences and understand the norms of a classroom setting understand that this gesture is used when a student wants to speak or ask a question during class, but to someone who has never once been in a classroom setting would have absolutely no idea what this gesture implies. W.E.B. Du Bois presents two ideas within his text, the idea that African Americans live behind a veil and the idea that they constantly struggle with a double consciousness. Double consciousness to Du Bois was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I said that any individual who learned to do something better than anybody else learned to do a common thing in an uncommon manner had solved his problem, regardless of the colour of his skin, and that in proportion as the Negro learned to produce what other people wanted and must have, in the same proportion would he be respected. (Washington 76 77) Washington is basically saying dignity in labor means that African American men will earn respect if they provide white men with something useful, such as things you can get from working hard in a field and selling it to white men. This will show them you are valuable and therefore they will respect you. The right to be respected by white man has been earned and thus it will be given. Long Black Song starts out with hints towards Du Bois idea of the veil with the lines, She saw green fields wrapped in the thickening gloam. It was as if they had left the earth, those fields, and were floating slowly skyward. (Wright 65) The terms such as thickening and floating give the image of being behind or on something. The idea that the fields are being pulled into a veil. What kinds of heroism and courage are shown in To Kill a Mockingbird? Discuss. Courage is defined as the quality of mind or spirit enabling one to meet danger or opposition with fearlessness. According to Atticus Finch, one of the main characters in To Kill a Mockingbird, Courage is when you know you re licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. Even his own sister expresses disapproval at his decision, practically telling him he was bringing disgrace to the family. Nevertheless, no matter how much his reputation suffered, he did not change his mind. Standing up for his morals and ethics was more important than what people thought about him. From the very start Atticus knows he will not win the case however he does his job and finishes what he set out to do. Atticus s strong sense of morality and justice motivates him to defend Tom Robinson with determination, giving it all he has. He shows this when he says, Simply because we were licked a hundred years before we started is no reason for us not to try and win. (pg.82). He says this to Scout after she comes home from school angry at Cecil Jacobs for making fun of Atticus in the schoolyard. Atticus tells her to fight with her head instead of her fists. He wants the people of Maycomb to hear the truth about Tom, That boy may go to the chair, but he s not going till the truth s told. (pg.159). • 25. Sequence And Sequence Of Proteins Sequence Information of Proteins Just as members in the same family often resemble each other, similarly structured molecules are often grouped in the same category. There are several methods of comparing amino acid sequencing and determining how closely they are related. A simple example is the sequence comparison method. Sequence databases are searched for a specific amino acid sequence of unknown characteristics. A set of molecules that are similar in structure can give insight into the properties of the unknown sequence of amino acids. To determine the similarity between 2 amino acid sequences, one can apply sequence alignment. This method aligns the 2 sequences and slides them past each other one amino acid at a time and calculates what position has the greatest amount of matched residues. However, there is a drawback to this method in that it does not show all of the possible alignments. To counteract this, one can induce a gap in one of the sequences to increase the total possibilities of matches. The gap will compensate for the insertions of deletions of sequences in a gene that is absent in the second sequence. However, simply comparing the identities of amino acids cannot account for everything. To increase the accuracy in the comparing two sequences there are 2 kinds of substitutions that can be made to further progress the determination of amino acids. The first is a conservative substitution which substitutes one amino acid with another amino acid that is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He wrote the magnificent Violin concerto in D in 1878, and endured its rejection by Leopold Auer, who deemed the work unplayable and followed with the Symphony No 6 and other legendary works (Mason, 70). Provide a thorough example (real or hypothetical) of each type of function in action in business. a. Currency Conversion: is a way to execute a transaction by converting one currency into another. This takes place when you/your company decides to invest in international affairs. When engaging in a foreign investment you must convert your US dollars into the foreign currency when making a sales and the opposite would happen if the country was buying a product from you. i. This type of currency exchange market is frequently used by experienced traders in foreign exchange markets, along with large investors. Using this type of exchange market maximizes oyur profits and allows you to evaluate three currencies at a time and brings the market into an equilibrium. i. For example, as you are investing in the New York Stock exchange you notice that the Malaysian ringgit is lower in Greece than it is in New York. As a trader you can buy riggits in Greece, sell them in New York, and earn a profit on the spread. • 29. LH Mouse Model Comparative analysis of LH levels and pulse frequency in mouse models Abstract: Estrogen is the primary female sex hormone and is responsible for the development and regulation of the female reproductive system and of secondary sex characteristics. Produced primarily by the ovaries, estrogen binds to and activates estrogen receptor beta (ER) a nuclear receptor. Estrogen plays an important role in the hypothalamic pituitary gonadal (HPG) axis by acting on gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) neurons located within the hypothalamus. In females, a cyclic reversal of estrogen feedback produces a positive feedback loop at both the hypothalamic and pituitary levels. This is coupled with an increase in pituitary sensitivity to GnRH, which produces the massive surge of luteinizing hormone (LH) that triggers ovulation. However, LH is not only secreted during this surge it is secreted in a pulsatile manner otherwise. This paper will focus on the implications on LH pulsatility by knocking out ER, as well as by removing the ovaries. This appears to be due in large part to a decrease in estrogen induction of GnRH neurons, particularly in rodents. • 31. Psychological And Social Process Theory Paper There are many theories that attempt to explain the cause of crime. Two theories for the cause of crime are the Psychological and Social Process Theory. According to Schmalleger (2015), psychological theorist believe crime is the result of inappropriate behavioral conditioning or a diseased mind (p. 78). Social Process Theory claims crime results from failure of self direction, from inadequate social roles, or from associating with others who are already criminals (Schmalleger, 2015, p. 103). Another theory is Conflict theory, Schmalleger (2015) states that according to conflict theory crime is a natural consequence of social, political, and economic inequities (p. 77). Another approach to crime causation is the Sociological theories which argue the individual is a product of his or her environment (Schmalleger, 2015, p. 103). Conflict theories are based on the belief that conflict among groups is unavoidable. According to Schmalleger (2015), conflict theorists highlight the stress that arise among a social group as they compete for resources and survival (p. 99). Conflict theorist believe that laws are tools of power which further the interests of those who make them. This allows for those in power to gain control of resources and deny accesses to disenfranchised groups (Schmalleger, 2015, p. 99). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Biosynthesis of glycyrrhizin is not fully elucidated at gene level. The early stages of triterpenoid saponin biosynthesis via isoprenoid pathway involve the dimerization of two molecules of farnesyl diphosphate catalyzed by squalene synthase, epoxidase mediated oxidation then produces 2,3 oxidosqualene. The first diversifying step in triterpenoid biosynthesis is the cyclization of 2,3 oxidosqualene a common substrate of oxidosqualene cyclases (OSCs) and a precursor of both triterpenes and sterols [Abe et al., 1993]. The biosynthesis of glycyrrhizin involves the initial cyclization of 2, 3 oxidosqualene by a specific OSC, β amyrin synthase (bAS), to the primarily oleanane triterpene β amyrin which is one of the most commonly occurring triterpenes in plants. The subsequent steps involve a series of oxidative reactions at positions C 11 (two step oxidation) and C 30 (three step oxidation), followed by glycosyl transfers to the C 3 hydroxyl group. Genes involved in the early stages of glycyrrhizin biosynthesis, namely, squalene synthase and bAS, have been functionally isolated from G. glabra [Hayashi et al., 1999, 2001]. The World Wildlife Foundation states, About 1.3 billion tons of food are wasted each year four times the amount needed to feed the more than 800+ million people who are malnourished (World Wildlife). Americans waste over one billion tons of food because they are uneducated on consequences of throwing away food. Finally, the use of the first person point of view in Carver s What the Doctor Said allows the writer to express the lack of communication in modern society. Even though there is much communication in the poem, suggested from the onset by the title, it is very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
