The Canon Of Medicine Summary
Born in 980 A.D., during the eleventh century in Uzbekistan, philosopher physician Ibn Sina also
known as Avicenna in Europe, wrote a comprehensive medical encyclopedia called the Canon of
Medicine. The Canon of Medicine is considered as one of the most famous books in the history of
medicine. The Persian physician was a paramount figure in the history of Islamic medicine for he was
best known for his advancements and contributes to other Greek physicians philosophy and medical
theories. His work was so methodical that he was later considered as the father of early modern
medicine or the prince of physicians . Avicenna finished writing The Canon of Medicine prior to his
twenty first birthday, in which he provides detailed yet concise notes and findings of his medical
research in addition to writing many comments about other medical theories. However, the physician
philosopher also acquired many other achievements in different and diverse fields, such as
mathematics, poetry, music theory, and religion. The Canon of Medicine Volume I primarily focuses
on general principles of Avicenna s medicine; it can also be perceived as an introductory text for
medical students. As his method of research, Avicenna wrote in his book summarizations and
synthesis based on Hippocrates, Galen, and Aristotle; in addition to incorporating some of his own
observations and facts. This book has imprinted major impacts on other physicians and on medical
practices as well, where it widened the

Attack On Fort Sumter
The Attack on Fort Sumter took place on an island located in South Carolina on April 12, 1861.
Following President Abraham Lincoln s presidential election in November 1860, many threats were
brought to Federal troops guarding forts in the South during the secession crisis. The main purpose of
this battle was to guard Charleston Harbor. But the bombarding of the fort was the climax of a conflict
in which a small militia of Union troops in South Carolina found themselves isolated when the state
seceded from the Union. The Attack on Fort Sumter lasted less than two days and did not have much
significance other than the battle symbolizing both the North and South tremendously with no turning
back. The leaders that led this battle of the North was commander Major Robert Anderson and

Leading to the American Civil War, the Attack of Fort Sumter was an important event which was the
first battle to be fought. The situation taking place in Fort Sumter had become greatly tense as
conflicts rose. It began as South Carolina seceded from the Union and became nonexistent with the
forming of the Confederacy. The Southern Confederate leader, General P.T. Beauregard decided that
he would begin constructing his forces in the army around Fort Sumter located in Charleston Harbor.
The Union leader of the North, Major Anderson chose to move his men from Fort Moultrie towards a
much stronger fort. In doing so, he had asked the War Department for reinforcements and planned to
move his men to Fort Sumter near the harbor s entrance where the South were already there guarding
it with their forces. Unfortunately, as Anderson and his men approached Fort Sumter, they were
surrounded by the Confederate Army, and began to run out of food and supplies. The Confederates
realized their lack of goods and hoped that Major Anderson and his army would leave South Carolina

Questions and Answers on Criminal Procedure
1. Does the information included in the warrant application amount to Probable Cause? Why or why
not? Probably not. This would be defined as an anticipatory search warrant, but the information
provided by the confidential informant includes statements that are mostly vague: Dory was planning
to sell Golden Starfish within an open ended date, she probably will deliver the stolen merchandise at
some point, and she usually rents a room at the specific hotel named. None of this qualifies as reliable
recent information as to criminal activity; as for proposed or future criminal activity, there are not
sufficient facts here to indicate an event that would be sufficient to qualify as a triggering condition .
According to the US Supreme Court s decision in U.S. v Grubbs (2006), what is required in an
anticipatory search warrant is a triggering condition that would permit the execution of the warrant on
the fair probability that contraband would be discovered if the search were executed no such condition
appears to be included here, when the best that is offered for a triggering condition is that Dory has
rented a room. The fact that the detective overheard mention of the Golden Starfish through the door is
irrelevant to the establishment of probable cause for the warrant, though. 2. Of what significance, if
any, is the two week period for serving the warrant? Ordinarily a search warrant cannot be served if
stale information is included in the search warrant

My Operational Definition Of Social Justice
My operational definition of social justice (the distribution of advantage and disadvantage within a
society) is controversial to my social justice (LGBT Liberation) because they have a disadvantage in
today s society. It s controversial because people today are afraid to come out because they re afraid of
other people s reactions. Everyone in today s society depends on other people s opinions. On what s
right or what s the norm . Many people feel this is a lifestyle choice not part of their make up. The
Supreme Court ruling to allow same sex marriages is still not widely accepts. The pressure of trying to
express who you are can add stress and the stereotypes by others can add an inability to have a career.
The efforts of the LGBT are opening doors for people to be themselves. Standing up for the LGBT
rights is a form of social justice. One of these advocate organizations is the National Youth Advocacy
Coalition. Teenagers as well as adults are faced with these injustices. My idea of social justice is
giving the LGBT the same rights as all other citizens and overcoming stereotypes.
Some of the groups against this social justice are religious groups and their leaders and right wing
political leaders (i.e. Tea Party). While many groups are outspoken against LGBT the biggest problem
is still with individual opinions. Many people still are afraid of what they don t understand.
The social justice issue I have chosen for my paper would be LGBT Liberation. I have

Science, Technology And The Nightly News Essay
Science, Technology and the Nightly News
Introduction
It s not uncommon for a news audience to run across stories or headlines about science that seem too
good to be true. Headlines such as, Scientist Say Smelling Farts Might Prevent Cancer, (Stampler,
2014) or Bananas as good as drugs for treating HIV, say scientists. (Arkless Gray, 2010) Not only are
these headlines flashy enough to get the attention of a wide audience, but they go beyond distributing
the facts to wade into the waters of Yellow Journalism. In fact, much of the news distributed today
might be considered such milky fare even by passive audience members. A 2013 Pew Research Center
study found that 31 percent of U.S. adults have left a news outlet that no longer meets their needs. The
reason for the exodus? More than 60 percent say the stories are less complete while another 23.5
percent claim there are fewer stories provided by these news outlets. One might wonder how such
claims could be made in these times of 24 hour news cycles and breaking news distributed across the
web through social media at warp speed. A closer look at the same Pew study reveals a startling fact
about factual news content on cable news channels. Of the big three cable news channels (CNN, Fox
News and MSNBC) only one provides more than 50 percent of factual news content. The others go
beyond the half way mark in providing commentary or opinion. MSNBC was found to provide a
whopping 85 percent of commentary/option content

Lab Report Experiment II
ABSTRACT: The main purpose of this lab is to extract the organic compound cinnamaldehyde from
cinnamon. The process used in order to execute the extraction of the cinnamaldehyde is called steam
distillation. After massing the Cinnamaldehyde on a scale in the laboratory, its total mass came out to
0.050 grams. The calculated percent yield came out to around 1.55%. The experiment yielded success
due to the fact that my data fell in the range (of the expected percent yield.)
PROCEDURES: The procedure for this lab experiment is located in Professor Zachary J. Poulos
manual A Laboratory Manual for the Health Science Major: Organic Chemistry I. Refer to pages 36
42 for a detailed procedure regarding this experiment. Refer to the second page in the back of the
laboratory manual (lab notebook) for a short and concise written version of this procedure. ... Show

After steam distillation occurred, the solvent was exposed to the open air for seven days. The
Cinnamaldehyde built up in the bottom of the test tube, baring the color brown. The calculated actual
percent yield of my experiment was 1.55%. This calculation fell in the range of the literature percent
yield of Cinnamaldehyde which is between 1.00 3.00%. Due to my calculation falling in range to what
is was supposed to be (literature percent yield), I would have to conclude that my experiment in this
lab was successful. However, there are many ways that this experiment could have gone wrong but
didn t. If I had not extracted enough crystals, or spilled some out of my container, my calculation
would not have fell in the range of the literature percent

Analysis Of Popular Mechanics By Raymond Carver
In Popular Mechanics by Raymond Carver a man begins packing his things in a suitcase on a rainy
day. His spouse barges into the room and begins to berate him. She moves to the dresser and picks up
a picture of their baby and leaves the room. The man follows they begin fighting about who gets the
baby. As the women holds tightly to the baby, the man backs her into the kitchen and begins grabbing
the child. They both have a tight hold on the child now and are pulling backwards. The story
concludes and it is implied that they have killed the baby. This story s theme of the selfish and
aggressive nature of humans is prevalent throughout the text.
Carvers use of diction sets an eerie and depressing mood. The beginning of the story describes ...

Creating a setting that is dark intensifies the mood of the story. Later in the story, the couple is
physically fighting over the baby: The baby was red faced and screaming (Carver). Having the vivid
image of a distressed baby makes the reader feel compassion for the child. The baby is stuck in the
middle of an argument between two adults and has no choice to leave. These examples of imagery
relate to the theme of selfishness and greed that can overpower a person.
Carver uses very few details in this story to make it more relatable to the reader. For instance, there are
no names given the the man, woman, or child in the story. The absence of this details lets the reader
put themselves in the shoes of the man, woman, or child while reading. There is an instance or
hesitation or uncertainty when the man leaves the bedroom: He fastened the suitcase, put on his coat,
looked around the bedroom before turning off the light (Carver). When the man looks back to the
room, his hesitation implies that he is unsure about what decision to make, but when he shuts off the
light, he is void of all feelings and has decided to fight. A similar situation happens to the woman in
this story: she wiped her eyes and stared at him before turning and going back to the living room
(Carver). When this woman looks at her spouse she is making sure that she wants to go through with
fighting, and when she looks away she is determined to win the fight. These few details make it clear
how selfish

Everyman Is An English Morality Play By An Unknown Author
Originally known as The Summoning of Everyman , Everyman was writing sometime during the late
1400s. Everyman is an English morality play by an unknown author. This play first appeared in
England in the 16th century. Everyman can be considered as a play of transience because it shows a
protagonist who is during the whole play. It also illustrates the way Christians are expected to live and
the endeavors that should be made in order for their lives to be saved. The morality play Everyman is
about a man who is too attached and obsessed with materialistic things when Death summons and tells
him about his end. The author used symbolic names for characters to show us the moral of the play.
The characters in an allegory often have no individual personality, but are embodiments of moral
qualities and other abstractions (Allegory, 2010)
The author of the play Everyman has the main character Everyman to only symbolize the typical
human being. Death, also known as the antagonist, is a messenger sent by God to summon Everyman.
The author is trying to show readers that death is inescapable, and every human being will have to
face it one day. In the beginning of the play, God speaks about his death on the cross to give life to His
people, mentions the deadly sins, He tells that people live for their own enjoyments, and how some
have neglected Him. God then commands Death to show Everyman who is outside of the law of God
what must come to him without escape or delay, the day

Checks and Balances
Checks and Balances. Checks and balances is a system that is a part of out U.S. Constitution. This
system was put in to place so that no part of government would have too much power. The three
branches: judicial, legislative and executive are constantly granting and checking the other branches
actions, this is to make sure no one person can gain an excessive amount of control in government.
For example according to , the legislative branch is in charge of making laws. The executive branch
can veto the law, thus making it harder for the legislative branch to pass the law. The judicial branch
may also say that the law is unconstitutional and thus make sure it is not a law.The legislative branch
can also remove a president or judge that is not doing his/her job properly. The executive branch
appoints judges and the legislative branch approves the choice of the executive branch. Again, the
branches check and balance each other so that no one branch has too much power . Senate rejected a
president s nominee to the Supreme Court. The senate has rejected a total of 12 nominees out of 159
nomination for Supreme Court Justice that presidents have submitted for confirmation. In 1795
George Washington was the first president to have his nomination for Chief Justice rejected. Robert
Bork for Associate Justice nomination by Ronald Reagan was the last to be rejected in 1987 by the
senate. The Senate sometimes take their time confirming nominees, which includes 24 they ve

The Other Wes Moore Argument Essay
Since the beginning of time, the environment in which one is accustomed to provides them with the
choices that lead down paths that make their legacy. This environment can be negative or positive,
structured or chaotic, rich or poor, all which give a variety of choices. Regardless of the different trials
and tribulations we face ultimately, it is the choices we make in response that make us the person we
become. Wes Moore, the author of The Other Wes Moore had many accomplishments in his life. He
however gained notoriety with this book it was a New York Times best seller. In Chapter 7, the main
idea is that two people living in the same environment had different outcomes in their lives by making
entirely different decisions on how to deal with the adversities they faced in their lives. These
decisions led to the lives that they ultimately lived. The tone was intense and high energy to begin
with but then seemed to turn neutral in both men s stories. The purpose is to inform the reader how the

Major Depressive Disorder ( Depression )
Major Depressive Disorder (Depression) is a mood disorder where a person has a constant feeling of
sadness and complete loss of interest in everyday life. It is considered more serious than a case of the
blues and might require long term treatment. During major depressive disorder, the person thinks and
behaves differently and may experience emotional and physical problems.
Causes
The exact cause has yet to be pinpointed. It is believed that specific neurotransmitters in the brain may
stop acting the way they should and therefore affect the state of the individual s mood. The impact of
hormones is also called into question because hormone imbalances, for example pregnancy and
thyroid dysfunction, are believed to cause depression. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Overwhelming feeling of sadness or hopelessness.
Trouble concentrating and making decisions.
Feelings of guilt, worthlessness and shame. Worrying over past indiscretions or failures.
Slower thinking.
Treatment
Many people with depression find that medications along with regular visits to a psychologist or
psychiatrist are a very effective form of treatment.
Cognitive Therapy this form of cognitive therapy starts out by educating the client on what may cause
the depression and that negative thoughts should be redirected. The therapist teaches the client how to
identify the bad thoughts as they occur throughout the day and the emotions that are associated with
them. It is helpful because once the person can identify the negative thoughts, they can begin the steps
to try to change them.
Family Therapy this therapy should be considered if the affected individual s depression begins to
affect his/her family. This treatment creates a therapeutic environment for each person to discuss their
feelings openly and encourage open communication between family members.
Hospitalization in severe cases where a person with depression has expressed suicidal thoughts or
even attempted suicide, an inpatient treatment program with constant monitoring can be very helpful.
Electroconvulsive Therapy/ Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation this type of therapy is viewed as a last
resort option. In ECT, a current is passed through the skull into the

How to Plan the Perfect Party Essay

How to Plan the Perfect Party When you decide to have a party, you must realize that the people you
invite are there to have a good time. If you do not plan the party correctly and your guests do not
enjoy themselves, they may never come back to one of your get togethers. Take this into consideration
when planning the event even if making the necessary arrangements becomes time consuming and
tedious. No matter what, remember how important it is to take the time to plan your party step by step.
The steps you must take in order to plan the perfect party are to first identify the theme, second

However, if hiring a DJ is out of your price range, resulting to something as simple as playing music
from your computer or iPod will suffice.
The second main step in planning the perfect party is identifying what the theme of the party is going
to be. The theme of the party can vary anywhere from a birthday party to a costume party. After you
have successfully identified the theme for your party, you will then need to decide who you want to
invite. When deciding on who you would like your guest to be, refer back to your theme. For instance,
if you are planning a birthday party for a five year old, the majority of your guest should be other
children around that age. After that, count how many guests will be attending the event because this
will be important in your next step; revisiting the locations that you chose. Choosing a location is not
only important when calculating your budget but also when identifying your theme and the amount of
guest there will be. For example, you would not want to plan a baby shower at a bar because that
environment is not suitable for a baby shower. The number of guest is also crucial to know because
you do not want to plan a party at a location that will not provide enough space for your visitors. Now
that you have a theme, guests, and a location, the next step is to decide what type of decorations to
use.

An Effective Technique For An Organization
Changes affect every person in a business, including the managers and the employees. Managing
modifications in a business can be difficult and countless people within an organization can be
resistant for various reasons. Participation is considered an effective technique for reducing resistance
to change, other techniques includes education and communication, facilitation and support, and
negotiation.
Change in a business can be uncomfortable since it requires surrendering a certain way of thinking
and performing processes and implementing a novel way to accomplish a business goal. Encouraging
employees to participate in the alteration can be one of the utmost ways to reduce the resistance to
change. An employee who participates in the process of the conversion is further likely to embrace the
change. Therefore, one way is to encompass groups that will be affected by innovative procedures in
the development of fresh ideas. In other words, ask workers for their opinions and suggestions and
integrate their solutions. If people are given the opportunity to seize responsibility for specific parts of
a program their sense of ownership will craft stronger advocates. Also valuable input can be gained
from employees who really perform the day to day work as management may not have the
information needed to change the design. Before making slight adjustments anyone who will be
affected or who opposes the transformation should be brought into the decision making process,

characters were suffering from. The old man proves himself worthy of personal suffering with the cuts

Children With Scis And Caregivers Living
This project is developed to educate patients with SCIs and caregivers living in the New York City

living. These questions will be evaluated to determine the appropriate resources gathered for them
along with the agency based on the responses. The awareness of these resources can help people living

A health theory that applies to the project on SCIs is the social cognitive theory because it describes a
dynamic, ongoing process in which personal factors, environmental factors, and human behavior exert
influence upon each other (National Cancer Institute, pp. 19, 2005). Three main factors of the social
cognitive theory that affect the likelihood of a person performing a behavior are self efficacy, goals,
and outcome expectancies (National Cancer Institute, pp. 20, 2005). A goal of this project is to help
improve or maintain the self efficacy of people living with SCIs and their caregivers, leading to them
to have a better quality of life. Self efficacy is defined as confidence in the ability of a person to
overcome barriers and take action (National Cancer Institute, pp. 20, 2005). The projected outcomes

Cannibal Raw Synthesis
For a movie about a cannibal Raw is under cooked. A textbook example of a fantastic premise that
gets so caught up in symbolism it loses the syntax. Not that the story is incoherent it s rather simple. It
is the story of Justine, the veterinary school bound second child of militant vegetarians. She begins the
film insisting upon her unassuming averageness: plain clothes, plain spoken, hesitant to party or
confront. And as all horror films go, something goes terribly wrong with her sister and she starts
craving human flesh. She then slowly realizes that she is not alone in this craving and also wants sex.
From there she attempts to resist both cravings.
Simple. Or it would be if the film did not bungle its buildup. It starts at murder and

Transgender People Face Harassment And Discrimination
In 2015, at least 21 transgender people have been victims of fatal violence in the
United States, more killings of transgender people than any other year on record. More transgender
people were killed in the first six months of this year than in all of 2014.
While we don t know many details about these victims experiences, research shows that transgender
people face harassment and discrimination in numerous contexts throughout their lives. We know that
the chances of facing discrimination, harassment and violence increase exponentially for transgender
women of color, who also face racism and sexism. For many transgender women of color, the threat of
violence is constant, and there are few if any places they feel safe. Transgender people must be
supported because they are human beings who have many talents that will support and maintain
society.!

Everyone has a gender identity. Most people s gender identity matches their anatomy.
But those who are transgender feel different from their physical appearances. Society today looks

Why Is Algebra Important
Algebra
When I decided to return to school to get my degree I did not think that much about which courses I
would be required to take. I knew there were basic classes such as English, Science, History and Math,
and then the courses that would be required for my degree. I knew I would be taking Algebra at some
point but was not expecting it to be so early on. I am not sure I see a lot of need for Algebra itself in
Human Resources, but I do know that I need it to graduate. I do not feel I am being forced to take
Algebra, it is just another required course, like Intro to Computers, or Student Success, or English.
Math has never been my favorite subject, but more out of fear of not being able to figure all the
problems out, than just a general dislike for the subject.
When I hear the term liberal arts, I think of general education classes not degree specific classes. A
liberal arts degree gives students an education in all the major areas of study such as History, English,
Math, Science and the Arts. Students with degrees in the liberal arts can find employment in a lot of
job fields, as they are educated in various areas. STEM, or Science, Technology, Engineering and

Streetcar Named Desire Dramatic Techniques Essay
In his staging of A Streetcar Named Desire , Tennessee Williams is creative in his unorthodox fusing
of realistic elements with an expressionistic style. We can see the themes and ideas that Williams is
trying to portray through more than just the dialogue and good acting. Dramatic strategies such as
form, staging and set design, the costumes and so on, these all help convey to an audience the themes
of the play in either quite obvious or subtle ways; most of the time it s subtle, we have to really look
into even the tiniest of details as more often than not they have more meaning than previously thought.
Williams used an array of dramatic strategies such as coloured symbolism and a creative use of
lighting that distinguished him from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The stage directions describe the exterior as poor yet with a raffish charm (Williams, 1947, Scene
One), and the references made to the L N tracks and warehouses creates the setting as an urban, built
up, working class area. While the setting seems to be realistic, there is also expressionism in the
comparison of the exterior and the interior. The stage directions note the lighting as only highlighting
specific parts of the stage; there are two rooms but they re not defined clearly enough for the audience.
Throughout the play the movement between the Kowalski apartment and the streets below is
seamless; the transparent walls aid the fluid movements, and at times, both the streets and the
apartment can be seen at once. This emphasises the way that the public can intrude on the private
despite the walls that seem to separate them. Seeing the boundary between exterior and interior
highlights the theme of fantasy and illusion. The most noteworthy use of this theatrical device comes
when Stanley rapes Blanche and the back wall becomes transparent, and this shows the loud argument
happening between a prostitute and a drunk man in the street, which highlights the brutal life for some

The Pros And Cons Of Equality And Equality
Equality has come a long way from where it was before, but the rights of the LGBTQ community are
still thrown to the side and not cared for enough. Some people believe the state of Indiana is just
making matters worse with the discriminating and victimizing law that goes by the Religious Freedom
Restoration Act as stated in the article City Rallies Around Its Gay Citizens After a Law Sets Off a
Flood of Support. It is allowing those with religious beliefs to discriminate against gays and lesbians
because the law ensures the interests of religious freedoms are protected. Although the law caused
backlash it also created an opportunity of unity within the State of Indiana and support from others as
well as said President of Indy Pride inc. Chris Morehead But on the back side of it, we saw support
from places we never imagined. People gathered from all around the state to help show their support
to those who were struggling with the new law. The law created mishaps but it showed the world that
you can have unification and equality throughout different people with dissimilar beliefs from one
another. Furthermore, the accusations of the law being discerning led to House Speaker Brian Bosma
to apologize to those who were hurt by stating We are sorry that misinterpretation hurt so many people
as said in article Indiana legislators back religion law amendment written by Danielle Paquette.
Additionally, he spoke about how Indiana is not a place of discrimination and the law

Thor as Portrayed in the Kenneth Branagh Movie
In this paper, I will talk about Thor as portrayed in the movie directed by Kenneth Branagh as he may
be depicted differently in other sources. Thor is the god of thunder and son of Odin, ruler of Asgard in
Norse mythology. A powerful God that was next in line for the throne of Asgard. Thor had the power
of thunder and was able to control its power with his hammer, which also allows him to fly.
Comparing Thor to Jesus, both are powerful beings. Asgard and Heaven are very similar as it is where
the Gods/God live. With great power both Thor and Jesus conquered things in their own way. Jesus
conquered sin, not by using his fists to fight Satan, but instead he was crucified to stop Satan controls
over the people. Where in Soteriology 1 payment for sin. Jesus conquered sin by offering his body, the
body of god, to repent for the people of the world s sin. Unlike Jesus, Thor s course of action is not
non violence. He comes from Asgard, a world where war was heavily prevalent, which was the reason
Thor was banished to earth. He conquered his enemies through his hands. Though both are godly and
had similar intentions Thor s course of action for his mission was different from Jesus according to
course text.
Thor is a savior figure because he saves humanity from God s themselves specifically his brother

The Debate Over Time To Reduce The Budget Deficit
We have a long story of debt, but it seems no one has been able to make it better. If the debt is
increasing over time, the government has a budget deficit. Charles C. Turner, et al, define deficit as
spending that exceed revenue (482). In history, basic deficit or debt was usually from over spending
from a war and economic issues like a recession or depression. Then the government had a budget
deficit almost every year between 1970 and 1997, but tax cut and more spending on defense by
President Reagan in 1981 added more growth to the deficit. Also, another cause is from reducing of
productivity seem in the GDP and lower tax rate (tax cut) (483). Even when the government had some
budget surplus, still, it could not cover the debt. In 2012, the debt grew over $ 16 trillion, (482 483)
and has increased more in recent year plus 2.9 percent of budget deficit in 2016 (The 2016 Long Term
Budget Outlook, 2). To manage the economic depression, sometime policymakers cut the taxes and
increase spending again by putting more money into private sectors (Turner, 483); therefore,
government goes further with the budget unbalancing. There are several reasons that lower tax rate
will not reduce the budget deficit closer to a balance.
First, lower tax rate will lower revenues. Overall tax cuts for a new coming year will bring different
amounts of revenue from the previous year if the tax rate falls below a previous percentage. For
example, Ramesh Ponnuru said that Mr. Trump s plan will

This was the day I had been dreading. I was participating in the Seattle Young Artists Music Festival,

Mental Health In England
Introduction
Mental health is becoming an increasing national concern. The Annual Health Survey for England
(2016) states ...one in four adults in England has been diagnosed with a mental health condition at
some point in their lifetime . Rachel Craig, from the National Centre for Social Research, said: This
survey leaves us in no doubt as to the prevalence of mental ill health in England. Despite it affecting
so many of us, prejudice against people with a mental illness still exists and there is some resistance to
the provision of community care for people suffering with mental ill health .
Despite the fact that it affects people of all ages, the trends seem to show a substantial increase in
young suffers. The Mental Health Foundation (2001) claims that more young people have mental
health problems nowadays, compared to thirty years ago. In terms of student cases of mental ... Show

This is proof that there is an additional stigma attached to males concerning mental health. Rachel
Craig states Men are more likely to hold prejudiced and less tolerant views than women towards
mental health .
Head of Samaritans policy and research, Clare Wyllie states that there is a male suicide problem
because Society has this masculine ideal that people are expecting to live up to. Lots of that has to do
with being a breadwinner. When men don t live up to that it can be quite devastating for them (Fogg,
2014).
In view of the evidence cited above, the author feels that a viable means of de stigmatization of mental
health issues at university will encourage male students to seek help for mental health issues. This will
also reduce negative connotations attached with mental health issues, which in turn will decrease the
alarming suicide rates attached with it.

financial standing. Auditor independence is the backbone behind the perceived trust and comfort an
auditor provides while examining the financial statements. If an auditor impairs independence, how
can an investor ensure that he or she is relying upon accurate information? Since trust is an essential
part of the auditor investor relationship, the government and accounting oversight boards have taken
several measures ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By applying the most restrictive set of independence rules one improves the likelihood of impairment
because as restrictiveness increases it becomes increasingly difficult to comply with the rules. In
essence, one is being conservative in his or her application of the most restrictive set of rules.

PCAOB and AICPA
The PCAOB and AICPA function in similar ways but differ in one core department. Title I of the
Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002 created the PCAOB and states the purpose of the group is, ... to oversee
the audit of public companies that are subject to securities laws, and related matters, in order to protect
the interests of investors and further public interest in the preparation of informative, accurate and
independent audit reports... (Sarbanes Oxley Act 2002). The bill continues detailing the duties of the
PCAOB throughout nine sections in Title I of the act. These duties include establishing or adopting
standards including ethics and independence. It is also important to note that the PCAOB operates
independently and its members are not considered agents of the Federal Government. However, the
Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) maintains oversight authority over the PCAOB,
including the approval of the Board s rules, standards and budget (About the PCAOB). In contrast, the
AICPA oversees the audit of

How Did King James Influence Shakespeare
King James I of England once said, I can make a lord, but only God can make a gentleman ( King
James I ). King James I believed in royal absolutism and was also known as King James VI of
Scotland. He reigned as king during the life of William Shakespeare. As a playwright, Shakespeare
was greatly influenced by King James. He alluded to the king in many instances and wrote his plays to
favor the king. One of the most notable influences of King James is found in Shakespeare s play
Macbeth. While writing Macbeth, William Shakespeare was influenced by King James as seen in
multiple allusions to King James reign. The play Macbeth is enriched with allusions to King James. To
begin with, an allusion is found in Act 4 Scene 1. On page Shakespeare

The Effects Of Self-Injury On Women
Once upon a time it was formerly believed that women were cut or engaging in self harm more than
men. Later on it was found to be that each gender engaged in cutting just as much as the other gender.
My class suspected that women cut themselves more than men. The class was wrong with a static of 2
male to every 13 women. That is a very unbalanced and incorrect. Since this addiction feels like it is
so underground, one would think that the addiction rate would be very low. Carroll states that The
research also indicates that about 1 percent of the US population engages in various types of self
injury. This might seem low compared to other addiction, but it is still a big number. Statistics show
that there are about 318.9 million live in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although in the long term of cutting these people may have higher rates of suicide. The wounds that
have caused suicides are similar to don t judge a book by its cover , just because their wounds might
not be as deep or as long than other, they are still suffering. The Royal College in the United Kingdom
concur that, Self harming behaviors have become a challenging and complex public health issue...and
the behaviors themselves are quite diverse (2015 Royal College of Psychiatrists). Someone who
scratches themselves may be in just as much pain as someone who is going to the hospital right now
because they need 15 stiches on their arm. The British Journal of School Nursing also agrees, An
expression of personal distress, usually made in private, by an individual who hurts him or herself.
The nature and meaning of self harm, however, vary greatly from person to person. In addition, the
reason a person harms him or herself may different on each occasion, and should not presumed to be
the same (British Journal of School Nursing). Identifying self harm symptoms is highly important for
helping someone who is suffering from cutting

Why Is Cal Mccaffrey Unethical
In today s day and age, mass media has completely changed the way in which we consume news. The
truthfulness of the millions of blogs and web pages makes it hard to trust what is true and what is not.
Newspapers are often an overlooked form of news, which is surprising considering that it is a
accurate, curated source of media. What sets newspapers apart from all the countless blogs and web
pages is the set of ethics that the reporters and editors are required to follow. In State of Play Cal
McCaffrey, a reporter for the Washington Globe, did not act in accordance to the code of ethics.
McCaffrey knowingly broke the law whilst trespassing, clearly knew McCaffrey had a conflict of
interest, and unethically recorded someone while falsely promising anonymity. ... Show more content

This act was both unethical and illegal because McCaffrey was not authorized to be in the morgue and
was invading the privacy of the dead victim. A journalist should never trespass on private property or
look at information that was not made public such as phone records. McCaffrey had an extreme
conflict of interest whilst covering the story of Sonia Baker, the leader researcher for an investigation
on PointCorp. McCaffrey was college roommate with Senator Stephen Collins, representing
Pennsylvania and on the investigation. McCaffrey also had a romantic relationship with Collins wife,
Anne Collins. This was a clear conflict of interest as McCaffrey was friends with the Collins and
would be motivated to giving them a favorable story. McCaffrey should not have been anywhere near
this story, because a reporter should never have a conflict of interest while covering a

The Philosophy Of Descartes On The Affirmative, And John...
Are ideas innate or not? First, I will present the debate on innate ideas as argued by Descartes on the
affirmative, and John Locke on the negative. Descartes view that we do indeed have innate ideas
which comes from his meditations concerning the idea of god. While Locke would argue that we do
not have innate ideas and that is rooted in his belief that all knowledge is a result of our experiences.
Descartes was a French philosopher who was a rationalist. Rationalists believe that all ideas are
innate. What this means is that we have all truths already in our minds from birth, and we do not need
to take in any information from the outside world to know what is truth. In his book Meditations on
First Philosophy Descartes tries to prove that we do have innate ideas. He does so through his
mediations on god and wax. Descartes states that all human beings make mistakes, this is shown when
he says The senses do sometimes deceive us (Cress 1993,14). Descartes is saying that we can be
incorrect in our judgments when we use our senses. We may see someone from afar and believe the to
be our friend Jane, but once that person comes closer we realize that it was not Jane but someone else
entirely. Thus we have made a mistake. Our senses gather information from the outside world and thus
not an innate idea. Descartes argued that when human beings make mistakes like this we are
imperfect. When he says human beings are imperfect he is stating that we will not be 100% correct

Investigating The Performance Of A Whitworth Quick Turn...
MACHINE QUICK RETURN MECHANISM 2.1 Objective The objective of this experiment is to
investigate the performance of a whitworth quick turn motion and to verify that the motion does have
a quick return stroke and a slow cutting or forward stroke. 2.2 Theory Definition of a mechanism
Mechanisms are a simplified model, usually in the form of a line diagram, which is used to reproduce
exactly the motion occurring in a machine. The purpose if this reproduction is to enable the nature of
the motion to be investigated without the encumbrance of the various solid bodies which forms the
machine elements. 2.3 Whitworth s quick return mechanism WHITWORTH S MECHANISM The
above diagram shows the mechanism as used on the apparatus. Link 1 on the top diagram is extended
to point A. attach to point A is another link with pivot. The other end of this link terminated in a slider.
In a machine tool where this mechanism is used the cutting tool is attached to this slider. The link
POA rotates about an O. The mechanism is driven by crank PC which rotates at about C with constant
velocity. The slider at P slides along POA as the crank is turned. Its path is shown by the dashed circle,
centered on C and through P. Clearly when P is at P1 the slider S is at the outer extremity of its travel
.When P is at P2 the slider S is at the inner extremity of its travel. Now as PC rotates with constant
velocity the time taken to go from P1 to P2 is less than that taken to go from P2 to P1. However

Divine Law versus Human Law Essay
Divine Law versus Human Law
Sophocles famous play, Antigone, can be perceived as a conflict between individual conscience and
state policy. Yet the issue of the play goes beyond that conflict and touches the universal conditions of
suffering, religion, and loyalty. Through Antigone s character which represents the spheres of family
loyalty, divine law, and human suffering, Sophocles conveys the idea that a law of man that violates
religious law is not a law at all. He expresses this idea by having Antigone dutifully bury her brother s
body although it is against King Kreon s ruling. Antigone s action is not only an act of family loyalty
but is an act of piety demanded by the gods. The play commences with Antigone announcing her ...

Suffering is a universal condition that the characters in the play must deal with. Since the day
Polyneices and Eteokles died, Ismene suffers by not being capable of having emotions. She says to
Antigone: Nothing makes me happy, nothing hurts me anymore (Sophocles 22). The loss of loved
ones can cause one to suffer but to not honor those who died can cause a vast amount of distress.
Because Eteokles was honorably buried and Polyneices was not, Antigone suffered for her brother; the
guilt built every second he remained unburied. She does not regret burying her brother by saying, But
if I had let my own brother stay unburied/I would have suffered all the pain I do not feel now
(Sophocles 572 3). She would rather bury her brother and go against the state than live her life in pain.
She is independent in her decision because she would is willing to suffer her own death so she won t
suffer her brother s death any longer: I m ready to suffer for it and to die./Let me. No suffering could
be so terrible as to die for nothing (Sophocles 120 3). She is conveying that no matter what, she will
suffer. If she does nothing for her brother she will suffer and if she does, she will suffer the death
penalty. It is better, she concludes, to suffer and die out of loyalty to her own family. Although Ismene
reminds Antigone of how their family s name

  • 2. The Canon Of Medicine Summary Born in 980 A.D., during the eleventh century in Uzbekistan, philosopher physician Ibn Sina also known as Avicenna in Europe, wrote a comprehensive medical encyclopedia called the Canon of Medicine. The Canon of Medicine is considered as one of the most famous books in the history of medicine. The Persian physician was a paramount figure in the history of Islamic medicine for he was best known for his advancements and contributes to other Greek physicians philosophy and medical theories. His work was so methodical that he was later considered as the father of early modern medicine or the prince of physicians . Avicenna finished writing The Canon of Medicine prior to his twenty first birthday, in which he provides detailed yet concise notes and findings of his medical research in addition to writing many comments about other medical theories. • 3. Attack On Fort Sumter The Attack on Fort Sumter took place on an island located in South Carolina on April 12, 1861. Following President Abraham Lincoln s presidential election in November 1860, many threats were brought to Federal troops guarding forts in the South during the secession crisis. The main purpose of this battle was to guard Charleston Harbor. But the bombarding of the fort was the climax of a conflict in which a small militia of Union troops in South Carolina found themselves isolated when the state seceded from the Union. The Attack on Fort Sumter lasted less than two days and did not have much significance other than the battle symbolizing both the North and South tremendously with no turning back. Leading to the American Civil War, the Attack of Fort Sumter was an important event which was the first battle to be fought. The situation taking place in Fort Sumter had become greatly tense as conflicts rose. It began as South Carolina seceded from the Union and became nonexistent with the forming of the Confederacy. The Southern Confederate leader, General P.T. Beauregard decided that he would begin constructing his forces in the army around Fort Sumter located in Charleston Harbor. The Union leader of the North, Major Anderson chose to move his men from Fort Moultrie towards a much stronger fort. In doing so, he had asked the War Department for reinforcements and planned to move his men to Fort Sumter near the harbor s entrance where the South were already there guarding it with their forces. Unfortunately, as Anderson and his men approached Fort Sumter, they were surrounded by the Confederate Army, and began to run out of food and supplies. • 4. Questions and Answers on Criminal Procedure 1. Does the information included in the warrant application amount to Probable Cause? Why or why not? Probably not. This would be defined as an anticipatory search warrant, but the information provided by the confidential informant includes statements that are mostly vague: Dory was planning to sell Golden Starfish within an open ended date, she probably will deliver the stolen merchandise at some point, and she usually rents a room at the specific hotel named. None of this qualifies as reliable recent information as to criminal activity; as for proposed or future criminal activity, there are not sufficient facts here to indicate an event that would be sufficient to qualify as a triggering condition . According to the US Supreme Court s decision in U.S. v Grubbs (2006), what is required in an anticipatory search warrant is a triggering condition that would permit the execution of the warrant on the fair probability that contraband would be discovered if the search were executed no such condition appears to be included here, when the best that is offered for a triggering condition is that Dory has rented a room. The fact that the detective overheard mention of the Golden Starfish through the door is irrelevant to the establishment of probable cause for the warrant, though. 2. Of what significance, if any, is the two week period for serving the warrant? Ordinarily a search warrant cannot be served if stale information is included in the search warrant ... • 5. My Operational Definition Of Social Justice My operational definition of social justice (the distribution of advantage and disadvantage within a society) is controversial to my social justice (LGBT Liberation) because they have a disadvantage in today s society. It s controversial because people today are afraid to come out because they re afraid of other people s reactions. Everyone in today s society depends on other people s opinions. On what s right or what s the norm . Many people feel this is a lifestyle choice not part of their make up. The Supreme Court ruling to allow same sex marriages is still not widely accepts. The pressure of trying to express who you are can add stress and the stereotypes by others can add an inability to have a career. The efforts of the LGBT are opening doors for people to be themselves. Standing up for the LGBT rights is a form of social justice. One of these advocate organizations is the National Youth Advocacy Coalition. Teenagers as well as adults are faced with these injustices. My idea of social justice is giving the LGBT the same rights as all other citizens and overcoming stereotypes. Some of the groups against this social justice are religious groups and their leaders and right wing political leaders (i.e. Tea Party). While many groups are outspoken against LGBT the biggest problem is still with individual opinions. Many people still are afraid of what they don t understand. The social justice issue I have chosen for my paper would be LGBT Liberation. I have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Science, Technology And The Nightly News Essay Science, Technology and the Nightly News Introduction It s not uncommon for a news audience to run across stories or headlines about science that seem too good to be true. Headlines such as, Scientist Say Smelling Farts Might Prevent Cancer, (Stampler, 2014) or Bananas as good as drugs for treating HIV, say scientists. (Arkless Gray, 2010) Not only are these headlines flashy enough to get the attention of a wide audience, but they go beyond distributing the facts to wade into the waters of Yellow Journalism. In fact, much of the news distributed today might be considered such milky fare even by passive audience members. A 2013 Pew Research Center study found that 31 percent of U.S. adults have left a news outlet that no longer meets their needs. The reason for the exodus? More than 60 percent say the stories are less complete while another 23.5 percent claim there are fewer stories provided by these news outlets. One might wonder how such claims could be made in these times of 24 hour news cycles and breaking news distributed across the web through social media at warp speed. A closer look at the same Pew study reveals a startling fact about factual news content on cable news channels. Of the big three cable news channels (CNN, Fox News and MSNBC) only one provides more than 50 percent of factual news content. The others go beyond the half way mark in providing commentary or opinion. MSNBC was found to provide a whopping 85 percent of commentary/option content ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Analysis Of Popular Mechanics By Raymond Carver In Popular Mechanics by Raymond Carver a man begins packing his things in a suitcase on a rainy day. His spouse barges into the room and begins to berate him. She moves to the dresser and picks up a picture of their baby and leaves the room. The man follows they begin fighting about who gets the baby. As the women holds tightly to the baby, the man backs her into the kitchen and begins grabbing the child. They both have a tight hold on the child now and are pulling backwards. The story concludes and it is implied that they have killed the baby. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Creating a setting that is dark intensifies the mood of the story. Later in the story, the couple is physically fighting over the baby: The baby was red faced and screaming (Carver). Having the vivid image of a distressed baby makes the reader feel compassion for the child. The baby is stuck in the middle of an argument between two adults and has no choice to leave. These examples of imagery relate to the theme of selfishness and greed that can overpower a person. Carver uses very few details in this story to make it more relatable to the reader. For instance, there are no names given the the man, woman, or child in the story. The absence of this details lets the reader put themselves in the shoes of the man, woman, or child while reading. There is an instance or hesitation or uncertainty when the man leaves the bedroom: He fastened the suitcase, put on his coat, looked around the bedroom before turning off the light (Carver). When the man looks back to the room, his hesitation implies that he is unsure about what decision to make, but when he shuts off the light, he is void of all feelings and has decided to fight. A similar situation happens to the woman in this story: she wiped her eyes and stared at him before turning and going back to the living room (Carver). When this woman looks at her spouse she is making sure that she wants to go through with fighting, and when she looks away she is determined to win the fight. • 11. Everyman Is An English Morality Play By An Unknown Author Originally known as The Summoning of Everyman , Everyman was writing sometime during the late 1400s. Everyman is an English morality play by an unknown author. This play first appeared in England in the 16th century. Everyman can be considered as a play of transience because it shows a protagonist who is during the whole play. It also illustrates the way Christians are expected to live and the endeavors that should be made in order for their lives to be saved. The morality play Everyman is about a man who is too attached and obsessed with materialistic things when Death summons and tells him about his end. The author used symbolic names for characters to show us the moral of the play. The characters in an allegory often have no individual personality, but are embodiments of moral qualities and other abstractions (Allegory, 2010) The author of the play Everyman has the main character Everyman to only symbolize the typical human being. Death, also known as the antagonist, is a messenger sent by God to summon Everyman. The author is trying to show readers that death is inescapable, and every human being will have to face it one day. In the beginning of the play, God speaks about his death on the cross to give life to His people, mentions the deadly sins, He tells that people live for their own enjoyments, and how some have neglected Him. God then commands Death to show Everyman who is outside of the law of God what must come to him without escape or delay, the day ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 2014, Jeffrey Immelt pocketed about $48.9 million and increased his salary by 8.2% to $3.8 million. So, one of the main issues in General Electric would be the corruption that occurs in the higher level executive jobs. Streetcar Named Desire Dramatic Techniques Essay In his staging of A Streetcar Named Desire , Tennessee Williams is creative in his unorthodox fusing of realistic elements with an expressionistic style. We can see the themes and ideas that Williams is trying to portray through more than just the dialogue and good acting. Dramatic strategies such as form, staging and set design, the costumes and so on, these all help convey to an audience the themes of the play in either quite obvious or subtle ways; most of the time it s subtle, we have to really look into even the tiniest of details as more often than not they have more meaning than previously thought. The stage directions describe the exterior as poor yet with a raffish charm (Williams, 1947, Scene One), and the references made to the L N tracks and warehouses creates the setting as an urban, built up, working class area. The stage directions note the lighting as only highlighting specific parts of the stage; there are two rooms but they re not defined clearly enough for the audience. Throughout the play the movement between the Kowalski apartment and the streets below is seamless; the transparent walls aid the fluid movements, and at times, both the streets and the apartment can be seen at once. This emphasises the way that the public can intrude on the private despite the walls that seem to separate them. Seeing the boundary between exterior and interior highlights the theme of fantasy and illusion. The most noteworthy use of this theatrical device comes when Stanley rapes Blanche and the back wall becomes transparent, and this shows the loud argument happening between a prostitute and a drunk man in the street, which highlights the brutal life for some (if not most) in New ... Thor is the god of thunder and son of Odin, ruler of Asgard in Norse mythology. A powerful God that was next in line for the throne of Asgard. Thor had the power of thunder and was able to control its power with his hammer, which also allows him to fly. Comparing Thor to Jesus, both are powerful beings. • 36. The Debate Over Time To Reduce The Budget Deficit We have a long story of debt, but it seems no one has been able to make it better. If the debt is increasing over time, the government has a budget deficit. Charles C. Turner, et al, define deficit as spending that exceed revenue (482). In history, basic deficit or debt was usually from over spending from a war and economic issues like a recession or depression. Then the government had a budget deficit almost every year between 1970 and 1997, but tax cut and more spending on defense by President Reagan in 1981 added more growth to the deficit. Also, another cause is from reducing of productivity seem in the GDP and lower tax rate (tax cut) (483). Even when the government had some budget surplus, still, it could not cover the debt. In 2012, the debt grew over $ 16 trillion, (482 483) and has increased more in recent year plus 2.9 percent of budget deficit in 2016 (The 2016 Long Term Budget Outlook, 2). To manage the economic depression, sometime policymakers cut the taxes and increase spending again by putting more money into private sectors (Turner, 483); therefore, government goes further with the budget unbalancing. There are several reasons that lower tax rate will not reduce the budget deficit closer to a balance. First, lower tax rate will lower revenues. Overall tax cuts for a new coming year will bring different amounts of revenue from the previous year if the tax rate falls below a previous percentage. For example, Ramesh Ponnuru said that Mr. Trump s plan will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If an auditor impairs independence, how can an investor ensure that he or she is relying upon accurate information? Since trust is an essential part of the auditor investor relationship, the government and accounting oversight boards have taken several measures ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By applying the most restrictive set of independence rules one improves the likelihood of impairment because as restrictiveness increases it becomes increasingly difficult to comply with the rules. In essence, one is being conservative in his or her application of the most restrictive set of rules. (REPHASE) PCAOB and AICPA The PCAOB and AICPA function in similar ways but differ in one core department. Title I of the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002 created the PCAOB and states the purpose of the group is, ... to oversee the audit of public companies that are subject to securities laws, and related matters, in order to protect the interests of investors and further public interest in the preparation of informative, accurate and independent audit reports... (Sarbanes Oxley Act 2002). The bill continues detailing the duties of the PCAOB throughout nine sections in Title I of the act. These duties include establishing or adopting standards including ethics and independence. It is also important to note that the PCAOB operates independently and its members are not considered agents of the Federal Government. However, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) maintains oversight authority over the PCAOB, including the approval of the Board s rules, standards and budget (About the PCAOB). Later on it was found to be that each gender engaged in cutting just as much as the other gender. My class suspected that women cut themselves more than men. The class was wrong with a static of 2 male to every 13 women. That is a very unbalanced and incorrect. Since this addiction feels like it is so underground, one would think that the addiction rate would be very low. Carroll states that The research also indicates that about 1 percent of the US population engages in various types of self injury. • 47. Why Is Cal Mccaffrey Unethical In today s day and age, mass media has completely changed the way in which we consume news. The truthfulness of the millions of blogs and web pages makes it hard to trust what is true and what is not. Newspapers are often an overlooked form of news, which is surprising considering that it is a accurate, curated source of media. What sets newspapers apart from all the countless blogs and web pages is the set of ethics that the reporters and editors are required to follow. In State of Play Cal McCaffrey, a reporter for the Washington Globe, did not act in accordance to the code of ethics. McCaffrey was college roommate with Senator Stephen Collins, representing Pennsylvania and on the investigation. McCaffrey also had a romantic relationship with Collins wife, Anne Collins. This was a clear conflict of interest as McCaffrey was friends with the Collins and would be motivated to giving them a favorable story. • 48. The Philosophy Of Descartes On The Affirmative, And John... Are ideas innate or not? First, I will present the debate on innate ideas as argued by Descartes on the affirmative, and John Locke on the negative. Descartes view that we do indeed have innate ideas which comes from his meditations concerning the idea of god. While Locke would argue that we do not have innate ideas and that is rooted in his belief that all knowledge is a result of our experiences. Descartes was a French philosopher who was a rationalist. Rationalists believe that all ideas are innate. What this means is that we have all truths already in our minds from birth, and we do not need to take in any information from the outside world to know what is truth. In his book Meditations on First Philosophy Descartes tries to prove that we do have innate ideas. He does so through his mediations on god and wax. Descartes states that all human beings make mistakes, this is shown when he says The senses do sometimes deceive us (Cress 1993,14). Descartes is saying that we can be incorrect in our judgments when we use our senses. We may see someone from afar and believe the to be our friend Jane, but once that person comes closer we realize that it was not Jane but someone else entirely. Thus we have made a mistake. Our senses gather information from the outside world and thus not an innate idea. Descartes argued that when human beings make mistakes like this we are imperfect. When he says human beings are imperfect he is stating that we will not be 100% correct 100% ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

MACHINE QUICK RETURN MECHANISM 2.1 Objective The objective of this experiment is to investigate the performance of a whitworth quick turn motion and to verify that the motion does have a quick return stroke and a slow cutting or forward stroke. 2.2 Theory Definition of a mechanism Mechanisms are a simplified model, usually in the form of a line diagram, which is used to reproduce exactly the motion occurring in a machine. The purpose if this reproduction is to enable the nature of the motion to be investigated without the encumbrance of the various solid bodies which forms the machine elements. 2.3 Whitworth s quick return mechanism WHITWORTH S MECHANISM The above diagram shows the mechanism as used on the apparatus. Link 1 on the top diagram is extended to point A. attach to point A is another link with pivot. The other end of this link terminated in a slider. In a machine tool where this mechanism is used the cutting tool is attached to this slider. The link POA rotates about an O. The mechanism is driven by crank PC which rotates at about C with constant velocity. The slider at P slides along POA as the crank is turned. Its path is shown by the dashed circle, centered on C and through P. Clearly when P is at P1 the slider S is at the outer extremity of its travel .When P is at P2 the slider S is at the inner extremity of its travel. Now as PC rotates with constant velocity the time taken to go from P1 to P2 is less than that taken to go from P2 to P1. However ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Divine Law versus Human Law Essay Divine Law versus Human Law Sophocles famous play, Antigone, can be perceived as a conflict between individual conscience and state policy. Yet the issue of the play goes beyond that conflict and touches the universal conditions of suffering, religion, and loyalty. Through Antigone s character which represents the spheres of family loyalty, divine law, and human suffering, Sophocles conveys the idea that a law of man that violates religious law is not a law at all. He expresses this idea by having Antigone dutifully bury her brother s body although it is against King Kreon s ruling. Antigone s action is not only an act of family loyalty but is an act of piety demanded by the gods. The play commences with Antigone announcing her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Suffering is a universal condition that the characters in the play must deal with. Since the day Polyneices and Eteokles died, Ismene suffers by not being capable of having emotions. She says to Antigone: Nothing makes me happy, nothing hurts me anymore (Sophocles 22). The loss of loved ones can cause one to suffer but to not honor those who died can cause a vast amount of distress. Because Eteokles was honorably buried and Polyneices was not, Antigone suffered for her brother; the guilt built every second he remained unburied. She does not regret burying her brother by saying, But if I had let my own brother stay unburied/I would have suffered all the pain I do not feel now (Sophocles 572 3). She would rather bury her brother and go against the state than live her life in pain. She is independent in her decision because she would is willing to suffer her own death so she won t suffer her brother s death any longer: I m ready to suffer for it and to die./Let me. No suffering could be so terrible as to die for nothing (Sophocles 120 3). She is conveying that no matter what, she will suffer. If she does nothing for her brother she will suffer and if she does, she will suffer the death penalty. It is better, she concludes, to suffer and die out of loyalty to her own family.
