Something s Got Ta Give By Diane Keaton
In society age is a key aspect in the way people view others and how they communicate, a person s
age sets a tone for the language they use in communication with different groups be it their peers,
elders, or the young. Three aspects of age in society are communication, ability, and socially
constructed stigmas. Many of such aspects are portrayed in the movie Something s Gotta Give , where
a swinger on the cusp of being a senior citizen with a taste for young women falls in love with an
accomplished woman closer to his age. Harry, the soon to be senior citizen is played by Jack Nicholas
and Erica, played by Diane Keaton is an accomplished writer and the mother of Harry s young
companion. The movie makes you stop and think; what does age mean in the dating world today. In
the world of dating many people ask, does age matter? The answer is yes and no; as many different
components come into play. In the movie Somethings Gotta Give , Harry dates a younger woman and
when he meets her mom she doesn t seem to mind that her boyfriend is much older than her. An older
male and younger woman is accepted in society, whereas an older woman dating a younger man
becomes labeled as a cougar . A man who dates a younger woman receives no such title, this is
socially constructed by the white male dominant group, as to say it is ok for a man to do it, but when a
woman does it, she s a cougar . A man dating a young woman has been around for centuries and
coming from a dominant group the

Hearing The Sweetest Songs Summary
The article Hearing the Sweetest Songs is very insightful. There are many events that take place,
however I will try to focus the events that try to get the author Nicolette Toussaint to accept that she is
disabled. The author is living with a hearing impairment that occurred when she was a baby. Nicolette
learned from her parents how she lost her hearing from getting pneumonia. She realizes that she can
not hear when she gets a hearing aid at thirty years old. The hearing aid took away her peace. The
hearing aid made her be able to hear every noise around her and it usually startled her. Nicolette s
coworkers thought she was rude at meetings because she would answer the wrong questions. Her
coworkers thought she was daydreaming and they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though Nicolette tries to remain strong and continue to not label herself disabled, however there
are times she can not help but admit she has a hearing problem. Nicolette states, When I lived alone, I
felt helpless because I couldn t hear alarm clocks, vulnerable because I couldn t hear the front door
open and frightened because I wouldn t hear a burglar until it was too late. She did not want to be
labeled disabled because she was more than just a person with a hearing problem. Another quote that
displayed self doubt is when Nicolette explains, For the first time, I felt unequal, disadvantaged and
disabled[...] I knew that I had lost something: not just my hearing, but my independence and my sense
of wholeness. In addition, Nicolette also struggles with her identity. Not hearing should not change
how people perceive you. nicolette states, If I tell people may see only my disability. Once someone is
labeled deaf, crippled, mute or aged, that s too often all they are. Im a writer, a painter, a slapdash
housekeeper, a gardener who grows wondrous roses; my hearing is just part of my whole. Nicolette
wants to be treated like any other person without a hearing

The Social Responsibility Of Corporations Essay
Abstract
This paper explores the importance of social responsibility within corporations. This paper also
explores The Social Responsibility of Business is to Increase its Profits by Milton Friedman and his
stance on social responsibility. Friedman believed that corporations should not waste money on new
initiatives if it was just to appease the public, especially if it went above what laws required. Examples
are shown how corporations must listen to the customer or it could hurt the profitability of the
corporation, with social media being a big tool to press issues. Also discussed are laws that support
socially responsible initiatives such as pollution reduction that direct and provide incentives for
businesses. Keywords: Milton Friedman, The Social Responsibility of Business is to Increase its
Profits, social media, social responsibility, Smuckers, GMO, genetically modified organisms, The
Pollution Prevention Act of 1990
The Goal of the Firm
According to Investopedia, Milton Friedman was an American economist and statistician known for
his strong beliefs in free market capitalism. Friedman was also opposed to any government ran
programs that regulated policy that was used for the purpose of fueling business activity and
employment. In 1970, Friedman wrote an article labeled The Social Responsibility of Business is to
Increase its Profits . The basic premise of the article was to argue that business should not worry about
social responsibility; rather

National Debt Is Necessary For The Funding Of Federal...
National debt is necessary for the funding of federal programs. Government spending is not only a
focus of the United State s political system, but it affects one s personal choices and lifestyle. There is
a concern with where and why money is spent. A key aspect of government spending is allocated to
education. Education is fundamental in how one benefits society and the economy. The United States
education program is not only necessary for the success of the country, but it is in need of a more
efficient system with increased funding. Education is the foundation of a person s success and way of
life. Graduating from school is important not only for an individual, but it helps the local and national
economy. A study by the Alliance for Excellent Education shows that with higher graduation rates
among high school students, the economies of cities, states, and of the country would increase
(Rollins). Compared to the rest of the world, the United States spends a large amount of money on
education (U.S. Education). While many may think this sufficient, Professor Bruce Baker discusses
the correlation between supporting schools with federal funding and the success of students, When
schools have more money, they have greater opportunity to spend productively. When they don t, they
can t (ii, Baker). If students are to graduate and contribute to the boost of economies, education must
be the forefront of federal funding. The United States is spending what seems to be like

Cuban Migration
In order to understand the complex relationship that Cuba has with the United States and the nature of
Cuban American immigrant communities that exist in South Florida, it is necessary to first understand
the unique circumstances that led to the large influx of Cuban immigrants.
For many Cubans the Batista government was simply a puppet regime with the puppet masters being
wealthy Americans. This was because his economic policies favoured foreign investors and did little
for the development of domestic industries, which resulted in the wealth of the country being
concentrated in the hands of a wealthy white minority. Consequently, in the 1950s, this harsh regime
caused political resistance to reach to its boiling point. In response to these ... Show more content on

Prior to the development of Cuban American communities, 1940 census reflected the population of
South Florida being 172,172. Approximately 99.9% of the population spoke English and over 92% of
the population was white. The growth of Cuban American communities in South Florida drastically
altered this demography. Today, Florida is now the third largest state in the nation, with more than 20
million people in 2015. Florida s growth can best be termed a population boom facilitated by a series
of migration. Although migration from other northern states continues to be a major contributor to
population growth, international migration plays a more important role, particularly in the south.
According to the Pew Research Center 2015 statistical profile of Hispanics of Cuban origin, there is
an estimated 2 million who live in the United States. This accounts for 3.7 percent of the overall
Latino population. Cuban Americans are the most regionally concentrated, with approximately 70
percent residing in South Florida. This change in demography has also carried linguistic implications.
The first wave of immigrants who arrived in the United States all thought that they were in temporary
exile and it was only a matter of time before the new government was overthrown and they would be
able to return to their island home. Consequently, unlike many other immigrant groups they made little
attempts to assimilate in the United States, instead they maintained their culture, customs and more
importantly their language. Therefore, in the late 1900s Spanish speakers comprised over 1/3 of the

Behavior Management Is The Number One Key For Learning...
Behavior Management in the Classroom If you were to ask me what my number one priority is in my
classroom, without a thought my answer would be behavior management. Much like Marzano (2003)
I believe that behavior management is the number one key for learning success. If a classroom is
chaotic and unpredictable many students will show various kinds of undesired behaviors as a way to
cope with the environment. It is also very difficult for students to focus and retain information when
there are constant disruptions in the classroom. It will negatively affect the performance of the teacher,
and the students. When students are taught structure and routine, and given unwavering expectations
and consequences, and are then taught how to apply ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also important to build strong relationships with students in order to create a trusting and positive
environment. Much like Walker (2009) I believe that strong management stems from high expectation
levels, as well as a caring and nurturing environment where students are being encouraged and the
process, rather than the outcome of learning is emphasized. Walker (2009) defines this style of
teaching as authoritative. A high level of support and nurturing, along with high expectations, where
the adult is able to reason with the child to gain compliance. As a special education teacher, many of
my students have low self monitor abilities and struggle to reason, and need frequent reminders and
enforcers. I feel that it is most effective to use a more authoritarian approach in the beginning to build
very clear expectations without room for error. Walker (2009) defines authoritarian style of teaching a
highly controlling style of teaching that values strict obedience. Although an authoritarian approach is
less nurturing and highly controlling, I feel that it is effective to start with this level of control, and
then progress into a more authoritative level where the more nurturing warm supportive elements
come in as students learn to adhere to expectations with a high level of support. When moving into a

Essay On The Catcher In The Rye Moral Laws
Moral laws, an absolute principle defining the criteria of right action, are rules by which mankind
govern themselves. The laws are general basic rules by which the world is supposed to follow in order
to create a fair, just and safe environment for everyone to live in. Oftentimes, many books, plays,
songs and speeches have been condemned by speaking against the unspoken laws and often
encouraging others to do so as well. The Catcher in the Rye, written by J.D. Salinger is one of many
examples where a book challenges traditional teachings throughout its content and as a result, is
banished from various groups and organizations around the world. In the novel The Catcher in the
Rye, the author, JD Salinger, encapsulates the teenage angst among many individuals today through
the main character Holden Caulfield and his journey through a world full of phonies. Author Jerome

language by J. D. Salinger in an unusually brilliant novel (Burger 1). However, on the other side of the
spectrum, some went to the extent to seek that the The Catcher in the Rye be banned continually from
schools, libraries, and bookstores due to its profanity, sexual subject matter, and rejection of some
traditional American ideals (Lamazoff 1). Yet, despite the critiques and appraisals upon the book s
initial publication, as society has evolved and time has progressed, the book has sold over 65 million

ID #2: Individual, Institutional and Structural Discrimination Discrimination takes place in many
different forms and is often defined as an intent to treat an individual differently because of a group
that they belong to. Pincus defines three different types of discrimination: Individual, Institutional, and
Structural. Individual discrimination is when one person or a small group of people discriminate,
institutional involves the discrimination that can be found with institutions themselves, and structural
discrimination often seems unintentional. Usually in institutional, there is a dominant group in control
of the institution that discriminates against a minority. It is not rare to see discrimination occur in
education, even though as a society we wish it was a thing of the past. The discrimination can create
vastly different learning environments and experiences for each student or for varying groups of
students, and this can result in an education gap.
Individual discrimination can be seen if a staff member at the school treats a student differently
because of the group they belong to, institutional discrimination can be seen if someone ranked high in
the district gives orders to treat those of a certain group differently, and structural discrimination can
be seen in areas where you have to live within a

Therefore the root cause of communalism is not the presence of many religions in the country. When
religious sentiments are exploited with an economic or political motive the resultant effect gives rise

My Goals For A Social Worker
I did not always want to be a Social Worker. I wanted to be a psychologist when I graduated high
school. My dreams for my career got put on hold because I became a single mother at a young age.
Raising my child on my own was the hardest and most important thing to me. It was not until the
Department of Children and Families (DCF) came and removed my niece from my sister s home,
when I realized what Social Work was. At that moment, I knew I wanted to help children the same
way the social workers do.
My educational career started when I was laid off from my job 5 years ago. Part of the severance
package that I received made it possible for me to collect unemployment until I finished my degree. I
earned my A.S. degree in Human Services, and am currently working on obtaining my B.S. in Social
Work, all while being a stay at home mom to a teenager. I have made the Dean s List for the past few
semesters and would like the opportunity to help others with all the services that are available for the
clients that are in need.
Social Work, as a profession, is a great fit for me. My interest in social work originates from having
the desire to be able to help children that are abused and neglected to find better homes and safe
environments. Helping foster children find loving families, so they can be loved and happy too. I
enjoy helping and making a difference in the lives of others. I have been so close to being homeless it
scared me so much. Helping the homeless, homeless veterans,

Examples Of Foreshadowing In Popular Mechanics
Raymond Carver, author of Popular Mechanics , is a minimalist writer. Using the least amount of
setting and character dynamics Carver makes the audience analyze the small details and actions that
the people in the story do that would be seemingly nothing. The word little at the beginning of the
story is something that a lot of readers do not catch the first time reading this story, but it is a very
important word that plays into the rest of the story. Carver uses small actions to grab the reader s
attention later in the story. Small actions, such as the woman picking up the baby s picture and the
knocked down flower pot, take on larger significances, such as what the state of the relationship is, in
Popular Mechanics .

The readers first impression of the couple is dialogue. Dialogue is a very important element that
contributes to the tone in Popular Mechanics . The dialogue in this story is almost exclusively short.
The first time the reader gets dialogue is after the author sets the scene and initial mood. I m glad you
re leaving! I m glad you re leaving! She said. Do you hear? (277). This automatically sets an
aggressive and tense tone to the story. The reader is never told what the couple is breaking up over, the
only thing the reader gets is that the couple is fighting over keeping the baby. The couple only really
says that they want the baby, that is the majority of the dialogue in the story. Unspoken dialogue in
Popular Mechanics is immensely important to the story. He was in the bedroom pushing clothes into a
suitcase when she came to the door (277). This example shows the distance between the couple. The
woman is constantly backing away and seemingly running away from the man, especially with the
baby. There is finality in the story even though the reader never knows what the issues are in the
relationship, why the man is leaving, or why they are separating. In this manner, the issue was decided
(278). This short sentence sets the final tone of the story. There is something sinister and aggressive
about this sentence. The audience does not know exactly what the issue is, but with the small

Catheterization Research Paper
Catheters are tubes that are used to drain fluids from the body. They are often employed in removing
the fluid from the urinary bladder and therefore, are an important element in urology care. It is
important to understand their importance and correct use, if you are looking to take care of a patient. It
used in a variety of environments.
Here, we first look at how catheters are used and then discuss the problems that may appear when they
are not used in the proper manner.
Catheters in Urology Care
Catheters are basically connected either to a bodily vessel or a cavity. They can be used to either drain
body fluids or push medicine into the body. Catheterization can be done, using a number of needles
and tubes. Some of them are soft while some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are easily employed by a patient or a trained caregiver at home and therefore, ensure that they
can be used in different circumstances. They are perfect for people who have lost their urinary control
due to a variety of reasons.
The advantage of this method is that you can avoid constant catheterization which is associated with
several problems, such as male infertility and tract infections. The method also ensures that patients
can keep their bladder pressure low throughout the day. These catheters do not cause prolonged issues
and can easily be avoided once the person is able to use ordinary methods.
Foley Catheter A Foley catheter is designed to be connected to the bladder through the urethra. It is the
most commonly used catheter in urology care. It has two channels with one open and the other one
with a balloon. The open channel is used to drain urine out while the closed channel is used to inflate
the balloon. The inflation keeps a Foley catheter in place. These catheters are created these days from
silicone rubber.
They should only be used when indicated by a medical practitioner. As they are inserted through the
urethra, they carry a greater risk of infections and other side effects.

Visualization Of A Graph Essay
Recent advancements in data collection is producing big complex data in many areas which can be
modeled as graphs entities (vertices/nodes) and their relationships (edges). They are increasingly
being encountered in various fields of study. With this burst in data creation and collection, effective
analysis of medium to large graphs is becoming increasingly popular in many fields such as social
network analysis, biology, education, etc. With this increasing demand in large graph analytics, visual
analysis of graphs has gained a lot of attention. Visualization has become an important tool in graph
analysis and plays a critical role in thorough understanding of graphs. A key advantage of

These graphs exhibit a power law degree distribution of the vertices. begin{equation} P(x) ~ k^{
gamma}, 3 gamma 2 end{equation} This indicates that a small portion of vertices in the graph have
a very high degree and there are a lot of vertices with lower degrees. Vertices with very high degree
are key vertices for the connectivity of the graph and these vertices are called as hub vertices.
Examples of hub vertices are a network router in a communication network, a popular person in a
social network with many connections, etc. Graph visualization featuring relatively important node
identification, revealing the structure of the graph is useful for these type of graphs. Majority of the
existing graph visualization algorithms force based, etc. result in high computation times and generate
a space filling, cluttered visualization like a hairball. This visual clutter is due to overlapping vertices
which are a result of drawing all connected nodes close to each other and too many edge crossings
making the graph not readable. These layout generation algorithms fail to either reveal its intrinsic
structure or readily identify relatively important vertices. Rendering large number of vertices in a
small space aggravates visualization clutter by increasing overlapping, thereby making it hard to
see/select the vertices. A lot of solutions have been proposed

Live Free Or Die By Saul Bellow
Live Free or Die. These words spoken by General John Stark in 1809 echoed across our country
during the time of America s early existence and still resonate with our citizens today in the early
twenty first century. Freedom is a right on which our country was founded and that many Americans
have fought to protect and preserve over the past two centuries. As such, to speak illy of freedom
would be blasphemous; however, that is exactly what Saul Bellow does throughout his literature. Saul
Bellow was a decorated American Canadian writer who published numerous books throughout the
20th century winning awards that spanned from the Pulitzer Prize to the Nobel Prize for Literature. He

Throughout all three of his novels, Bellow fostered a close relationship between his main character
and one of their family members through the implementation of various types of literary devices in
Dangling Man, he does so with Joseph s wife. This bond between both characters was demonstrated
when Joseph purposely with held information from his spouse Iva to spare her rather than [sparing
himself] (Dangling Man, 199). Bellow implemented this action to symbolize their relationship and the
love he felt towards her. In this scene, Joseph showed that he cared enough about his wife to try and
protect her from the truth and would sacrifice his own peace of mind rather than her s. As such,
Bellow forced the reader to recognize the that a Joseph and Iva had a very close relationship through
marriage. In the forefront of Seize the Day, Tommy is addressing his relationship with his father when
he was younger and stated that [he] could turn to him in a time of crisis or need (Seize the Day, 15).
Bellow placed this specific line in the beginning of the novel to symbolize the trust that Tommy and
his father once shared and to verify existence of their relationship. Bellow further bolsters the
existence of their relationship later in the novel when Tommy shares with the reader the fact that they
have the same name. This is a special bond held between a son and a father that is passed down from

I was a curious young man, I thought about the soldiers, who probably get shot every other week. I

Who Are The Pigs In Lord Of The Flies
The Lord of the Flies in its entirety is about a body of british boys who are left to fend for themselves
when their plane crashes on an island. While the boys are on the island, the rest of the world is at war.
The boys treasure a conch shell at the beginning of the novel in which they use as a form of advantage
to speak. They then vote Ralph as their primary chief. They all determine that there is a beast amongst
them that Jack and his new found hunters attempt to hunt. Not only do they hunt the beast, but they
hunt pigs as a supply of food. While the majority of the boys become increasingly savage, Ralph and

The Craddock Cup: Questions: Spring 2015
The purpose of this case is to illustrate the importance of understanding cost behavior in calculating
the profit/contribution of the Craddock Cup. Within this context, the case asks whether the tournament
should be continued, expanded or dropped. In addition, the case provides a vehicle to discuss
allocation procedures and the concept of sunk costs. Finally, the case furnishes an opportunity to
develop cost volume profit analysis within the context of relevant costs and revenues.

What are the relevant revenues and costs? Provide a proposal for the expansion to the Cup to 64
teams, including ancillary revenues and costs.
*Please see Figure 1.2 for profit tables and relevant figures.
After adding an additional 32 teams to the tournament schedule, the relevant revenues including t
shirts, concessions, and soccer clinics doubled while the corporate contribution revenue remained the
same. This brought anticipated revenue for the field of 64 teams to $85,680. The relevant expenses
that don t change include the tournament registration with the YSL, recruiters hotels, the face books,
marketing and advertising costs, as well as the salary of Renee Jantsen; these costs are either fixed
(salary, tournament registration fee, no additional marketing required) or unaffected by the
introduction of the 32 new middle school teams (no additional recruiters because they re uninterested
in the middle school players, face books aren t made for the middle school players). The relevant
expenses that do change include the cost of the t shirts, concession, the soccer clinic, the player
insurance, referees, and trophies; all of these are variable costs, and thus double when the amount of
competing teams doubles. There is also a new cost for the rental of the 6 additional fields from the
local school necessary to host 64 teams (($150/field + $60 goalposts/field) * 6 fields * 2 days=
$2,520). All of those costs add up to $69,046 for our total expenses category. Using

Essay on Research Methodology
3. Methodology: 3.1 Introduction: The study for this thesis will be exploratory research using
secondary data collected by the communication agency, MESH Planning. The agency developed an
innovative approach called real time experience tracking , which involves three stages of data
collection. And both qualitative and quantitative data will be collected and used in this context in order
to get an insight of critical incidents. This section will start with a comparison of three possible
methodologies for data collection: ethnography, survey (or interview) and real time experience
tracking. And then sampling and data collection methods will be examined followed by a description

They are much cheaper than ethnography with a greater effectiveness, however, all of these interviews
or surveys were based on the retrospective data, respondents answered the questions by their memory
and the issue may happened for a long time. There could be a great influence on the quality of data
since the ability of respondent to recall information differed from one to another and some incorrect
information often occurred (Baker, 2003). The third approach considered in this study is the real time
experience tracking developed by MESH planning. This is an approach to record 360 degree
touchpoints of brand by respondents in real time. There are three stages of data collection. The first
stage uses the pre online questionnaire to collect information about brand health and relationship
quality. The third stage uses the same questions to ask respondents perception after brand encounters
in order to identify any change. While the second stage for data collection is the most crucial process
in the approach. Respondents are asked to send SMS message to report any brand encounter via
mobile phones. And the online diary also helped to expand these experiences (Willis et al 2010).
Meanwhile, for identifying the CIs, weekly questionnaire will be sent to respondents about the CIs
happened in the past week. The approach offers a holistic view to track customer experience as well as
identifying critical incidences. The real time tracking approach enabled to identify a

What Could Have Changed If More Things Were Questioned? We all know the story of the Donner

you should never give up. Never giving up is important in sports as you can always come back and

The road I chose to not take was to go on family vacations in the summer. Had I gone on family

They have a name in the rave community, they are tweakers. Tweaking, the common name for sniffing

replaced MDMA and LSD as the perfect rave drug, allowing users the clear head and stamina to keep

A prominent opinion during the aftermath of the Los Angeles Summer of Love was that speed killed
the rave scene. Where speed had been seen in every scene from metal to the punk scene, for some
reason it was shocking for some to see methamphetamine take hold, even though MDMA (an
amphetamine like substance) had been circulating for years. Some likened the rise to the quash of
young newcomers, some equated it with the greed of drug dealers. Judging from today s roster of
events throughout the nation, raves are still alive and well. However, many old schoolers have been
turned off by the newbie vibe that came with speed s rise in popularity. Some were casualties

Steroids Be Banned
Performing and playing at the highest level is crucial to athletes, multiple sports involve the use of
different physical abilities that require athletes to be well trained to succeed during competition. High
School athletes are often overstretched by coaches, family, and peers to always win, as a result many
teen athletes turn to steroids to raise themselves faster. Steroids influence body metabolism, the
process in which the body changes food into energy to provide the body with the strength needed to

  • 2. Something s Got Ta Give By Diane Keaton In society age is a key aspect in the way people view others and how they communicate, a person s age sets a tone for the language they use in communication with different groups be it their peers, elders, or the young. Three aspects of age in society are communication, ability, and socially constructed stigmas. Many of such aspects are portrayed in the movie Something s Gotta Give , where a swinger on the cusp of being a senior citizen with a taste for young women falls in love with an accomplished woman closer to his age. Harry, the soon to be senior citizen is played by Jack Nicholas and Erica, played by Diane Keaton is an accomplished writer and the mother of Harry s young companion. The movie makes you stop and think; what does age mean in the dating world today. In the world of dating many people ask, does age matter? The answer is yes and no; as many different components come into play. In the movie Somethings Gotta Give , Harry dates a younger woman and when he meets her mom she doesn t seem to mind that her boyfriend is much older than her. An older male and younger woman is accepted in society, whereas an older woman dating a younger man becomes labeled as a cougar . A man who dates a younger woman receives no such title, this is socially constructed by the white male dominant group, as to say it is ok for a man to do it, but when a woman does it, she s a cougar . A man dating a young woman has been around for centuries and coming from a dominant group the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Hearing The Sweetest Songs Summary The article Hearing the Sweetest Songs is very insightful. There are many events that take place, however I will try to focus the events that try to get the author Nicolette Toussaint to accept that she is disabled. The author is living with a hearing impairment that occurred when she was a baby. Nicolette learned from her parents how she lost her hearing from getting pneumonia. She realizes that she can not hear when she gets a hearing aid at thirty years old. The hearing aid took away her peace. The hearing aid made her be able to hear every noise around her and it usually startled her. Nicolette s coworkers thought she was rude at meetings because she would answer the wrong questions. Her coworkers thought she was daydreaming and they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though Nicolette tries to remain strong and continue to not label herself disabled, however there are times she can not help but admit she has a hearing problem. Nicolette states, When I lived alone, I felt helpless because I couldn t hear alarm clocks, vulnerable because I couldn t hear the front door open and frightened because I wouldn t hear a burglar until it was too late. She did not want to be labeled disabled because she was more than just a person with a hearing problem. Another quote that displayed self doubt is when Nicolette explains, For the first time, I felt unequal, disadvantaged and disabled[...] I knew that I had lost something: not just my hearing, but my independence and my sense of wholeness. In addition, Nicolette also struggles with her identity. Not hearing should not change how people perceive you. nicolette states, If I tell people may see only my disability. Once someone is labeled deaf, crippled, mute or aged, that s too often all they are. Im a writer, a painter, a slapdash housekeeper, a gardener who grows wondrous roses; my hearing is just part of my whole. Nicolette wants to be treated like any other person without a hearing ... • 6. National Debt Is Necessary For The Funding Of Federal... National debt is necessary for the funding of federal programs. Government spending is not only a focus of the United State s political system, but it affects one s personal choices and lifestyle. There is a concern with where and why money is spent. A key aspect of government spending is allocated to education. Education is fundamental in how one benefits society and the economy. The United States education program is not only necessary for the success of the country, but it is in need of a more efficient system with increased funding. Education is the foundation of a person s success and way of life. Graduating from school is important not only for an individual, but it helps the local and national economy. A study by the Alliance for Excellent Education shows that with higher graduation rates among high school students, the economies of cities, states, and of the country would increase (Rollins). Compared to the rest of the world, the United States spends a large amount of money on education (U.S. Education). While many may think this sufficient, Professor Bruce Baker discusses the correlation between supporting schools with federal funding and the success of students, When schools have more money, they have greater opportunity to spend productively. When they don t, they can t (ii, Baker). If students are to graduate and contribute to the boost of economies, education must be the forefront of federal funding. • 7. Cuban Migration In order to understand the complex relationship that Cuba has with the United States and the nature of Cuban American immigrant communities that exist in South Florida, it is necessary to first understand the unique circumstances that led to the large influx of Cuban immigrants. For many Cubans the Batista government was simply a puppet regime with the puppet masters being wealthy Americans. This was because his economic policies favoured foreign investors and did little for the development of domestic industries, which resulted in the wealth of the country being concentrated in the hands of a wealthy white minority. Consequently, in the 1950s, this harsh regime caused political resistance to reach to its boiling point. In response to these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prior to the development of Cuban American communities, 1940 census reflected the population of South Florida being 172,172. Approximately 99.9% of the population spoke English and over 92% of the population was white. The growth of Cuban American communities in South Florida drastically altered this demography. Today, Florida is now the third largest state in the nation, with more than 20 million people in 2015. Florida s growth can best be termed a population boom facilitated by a series of migration. Although migration from other northern states continues to be a major contributor to population growth, international migration plays a more important role, particularly in the south. According to the Pew Research Center 2015 statistical profile of Hispanics of Cuban origin, there is an estimated 2 million who live in the United States. This accounts for 3.7 percent of the overall Latino population. Cuban Americans are the most regionally concentrated, with approximately 70 percent residing in South Florida. This change in demography has also carried linguistic implications. The first wave of immigrants who arrived in the United States all thought that they were in temporary exile and it was only a matter of time before the new government was overthrown and they would be able to return to their island home. Consequently, unlike many other immigrant groups they made little attempts to assimilate in the United States, instead they maintained their culture, customs and more importantly their language. • 8. Behavior Management Is The Number One Key For Learning... Behavior Management in the Classroom If you were to ask me what my number one priority is in my classroom, without a thought my answer would be behavior management. Much like Marzano (2003) I believe that behavior management is the number one key for learning success. If a classroom is chaotic and unpredictable many students will show various kinds of undesired behaviors as a way to cope with the environment. Much like Walker (2009) I believe that strong management stems from high expectation levels, as well as a caring and nurturing environment where students are being encouraged and the process, rather than the outcome of learning is emphasized. Walker (2009) defines this style of teaching as authoritative. A high level of support and nurturing, along with high expectations, where the adult is able to reason with the child to gain compliance. As a special education teacher, many of my students have low self monitor abilities and struggle to reason, and need frequent reminders and enforcers. I feel that it is most effective to use a more authoritarian approach in the beginning to build very clear expectations without room for error. Walker (2009) defines authoritarian style of teaching a highly controlling style of teaching that values strict obedience. Although an authoritarian approach is less nurturing and highly controlling, I feel that it is effective to start with this level of control, and then progress into a more authoritative level where the more nurturing warm supportive elements come in as students learn to adhere to expectations with a high level of support. ID #2: Individual, Institutional and Structural Discrimination Discrimination takes place in many different forms and is often defined as an intent to treat an individual differently because of a group that they belong to. Pincus defines three different types of discrimination: Individual, Institutional, and Structural. Individual discrimination is when one person or a small group of people discriminate, institutional involves the discrimination that can be found with institutions themselves, and structural discrimination often seems unintentional. Usually in institutional, there is a dominant group in control of the institution that discriminates against a minority. It is not rare to see discrimination occur in education, even though as a society we wish it was a thing of the past. The discrimination can create vastly different learning environments and experiences for each student or for varying groups of students, and this can result in an education gap. Individual discrimination can be seen if a staff member at the school treats a student differently because of the group they belong to, institutional discrimination can be seen if someone ranked high in the district gives orders to treat those of a certain group differently, and structural discrimination can be seen in areas where you have to live within a ... Vertices with very high degree are key vertices for the connectivity of the graph and these vertices are called as hub vertices. Examples of hub vertices are a network router in a communication network, a popular person in a social network with many connections, etc. Graph visualization featuring relatively important node identification, revealing the structure of the graph is useful for these type of graphs. Majority of the existing graph visualization algorithms force based, etc. result in high computation times and generate a space filling, cluttered visualization like a hairball. This visual clutter is due to overlapping vertices which are a result of drawing all connected nodes close to each other and too many edge crossings making the graph not readable.
