Analysis Of Laura Mulvey s Film, Visual Pleasure And...
Katlyn Riggins
WGST 343: 500
Fall 2015
Topic Number 4
Women in film are often portrayed in a manner deemed pleasurable to the male viewer. Laura
Mulvey takes this concept and dissects it within her article Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema.
Mulvey references the term male gaze, wom[en] displayed as sexual object[s] is the leitmotif of
erotic spectacle: from pin ups to strip tease, from Ziegfeld to Busby Berkeley, she holds the look,
and plays to and signifies male desire (Mulvey 40). Because of this interpretation it is relevant to
examine different forms of media, such as films, to establish if the male gaze is present.
Furthermore, it is appropriate to analyze films directed by women to identify the male gaze, due to
their unique interpretation of female character s visual representation. In the essay that follows, it
will consider Girlfight and Dance, Girl, Dance to analyze how two separate female filmmakers,
Karyn Kusama and Dorothy Arzner respectfully, challenge the theory of the male gaze, along with
comparing and contrasting the methods in which such challenges were made, and finally it will
address how any filmmaker may object the male gaze.
Within the film Girlfight, director Karyn Kusama presents the audience with a strong female
protagonist. Actor Michelle Rodriguez debuts her career portraying the lead role of Diana and
gives the audience a unique interpretation of the character. We first see the heroine, through a crowd
of teenagers walking

Ban On Tobacco Advertising And The Conflict Of Interest...
Ban on Tobacco Advertisement in India
The discussion of advertising tobacco products is a controversial topic, there are relevant points on
both sides of the argument, so it is hard to determine a true ethical decision. India s government
announced the bill banning tobacco companies from advertising their products in February 2001,
their goal is to prevent adolescents from taking up smoking or any other form of tobacco products.
Initiating this bill is the government answer to an ethical challenge, they are protecting the health
of the entire country, rather than the financial future of one industry. (Bauer, 2016) Immediately,
there was an uproar that sparked this intense debate, arguments between health concerns versus
constitutional rights. In this paper I would like to discuss the pros and cons of banning the
advertisement of tobacco products and the conflict of interest that it presents.
In favor of the ban, there are multiple countries, such as France, Finland, and Norway, that have
made the decision to prohibit tobacco companies from promoting their products. This ban extends
to advertisements, as well as sponsorship of sporting and cultural events. While these countries
have been able to keep most of these ads off their television and radio outlets, there are still a few
that have been able to sneak by, through international programming. (IBS Center for Management
Research, n.d.) Tobacco is currently the most dangerous consumer product out there, it is highly

The Illuminati
The Illuminati Some of the biggest men in the United States, in the field of commerce and
manufacture, are afraid of something. They know that there is a power somewhere so
organized, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive, that they better not
speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it (Woodrow Wilson, The New
Freedom 1913). As Woodrow explains the secrecy and power that are near and can be felt is in
reference to the Illuminati. The Illuminati are a secret and powerful society that date back as far

Young Man on Sixth Avenue In Young Man on Sixth Avenue the author Mark Halliday

explaining to the now ex boyfriend that she is impossible to replace if lost or damaged. Throughout
this music videothe viewer can see many examples of BeyoncГ© s monstrous femininity. The first
example of monstrous femininity seen in this video is at the very beginning. At the still frame of

Women in today s society, have been taught to bow down to the man, to be cooperative to the
man s needs, and to understand that it is in a man s nature to cheat (Evolutionary Physch).
However, BeyoncГ© will not conform to society s belief of how she should handle this situation
and proceeds to kick him out. This shows one of BeyoncГ© monstrosity s: independence. The
second example of monstrous femininity seen in this video is at the still frame of 1:09,
BeyoncГ© is seen fully covered in all black (beyonceVEVO). This is a very important fact
because many times men will use a woman s sexuality to discredit her from the issue at hand.
However, BeyoncГ© is showing no skin, no sexual attraction, and keeping the focus on her power.
She is redirecting the male gaze from her body and putting the attention on the fact that she has
enough power eo kick a strong and powerful male out of her house. This shows BeyoncГ© second
monstrosity: authority. The third example of BeyoncГ© monstrous femininity can be seen at 1:51

A Brief Definition Of A Hero
What is a hero? Let me define that for you. A hero is a person, who is admired or idealized for
courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. You may not know or see it, but there is
heroes in everyday life. I know, shocking right! There are heroes everywhere you go, school, work,
even Walmart! You may not see them, but it doesn t mean they aren t there. A hero
is any person who
overcomes a challenge and is always there for you through thick and thin. There are a lot of things
a hero can do to become or show that he/she is a hero.
Well I bet you are wondering what are some examples that make a regular person, just like you, a
hero. A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself. Joseph
Campbell. This means that a hero has given his/her life to put somebody or something that is
important before his/her self. A coward gets scared and quits. A hero gets scared, but still goes
on, Anonymous. This means that even when a hero is scared he never gives up, he still keeps
going on. A hero helps people, like if you see an old lady carrying a bunch of bags, a hero would go
up to her and offer to help her carry them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If somebody is selfish then they couldn t be a hero because a selfish person is someone who
wants everything for themselves, unlike a hero. For example a hero would share his/her food
with someone who is starving so therefor he/she is not selfish. If somebody is evil, he/she couldn
t be a hero because heroes want to help others. People who are just evil want to hurt people
instead of help them. If a person is mean to somebody then he/she cannot be a hero because a hero
is always nice to one another even if the person wants to hurt them. That to me shows true colors

The Culture And Business Practices Of Japan
Introduction
221 Baker plans to open a store in Tokyo, Japan by the end of the 2016 fiscal year. By conducting
research by utilizing the World Wide Web and an informative interview by Sensei Mako Nozu, we
have gathered substantial information about the culture and business practices of Japan. We feel as
if our knowledge has equipped us to succeed in this widely misunderstood market. Venture Japan
stated that many foreign countries never do start business in Japan (or enter the market through a
distributor) because of the misconception, fueled by those infamous myths of doing business in
Japan, that dealing with the Japanese business culture is somehow too risky (Venture Japan). We
are ready to take on this risk as many other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, if your shift is at 9 A.M. you are expected to be dressed, clocked in, and at your
desk before that time (Nozu). Also, in every situation you find yourself in, you should be aware
of how people are perceiving you, as this is extremely important to the Japanese. It is very
common for the Japanese to go out after work to bars, karaoke s, or restaurants. If you are
invited you should make an effort to go, as good relationships with those whom you work with
are important. The well being of the group is always placed above the individual in their culture.
If a Japanese business is not doing well the CEO would cut his own pay so that it could be fairly
distributed to his employees. Things like this, that we may not see in Western business practices,
are all part of the unified country of Japan. Family Life
As the Japanese are very social and place a lot of emphasis on strong bonds, family is extremely
important. Families in Japan are referred to as ie and are all registered to the same koseki or
official government document (Bestor). The structure is very similar that seen in Western culture
where the mother, father, and children reside together. It is common for older relatives to live
with a family, and if they do not, there is an old saying that even if an extended family does not
live together, parents and grandparents should live near enough to carry over a bowl of hot

Determining Primortem Trauma in Forsic Pathology and...
There are many factors involved in the determination of perimortem trauma time in both forensic
pathology and forensic anthropology. This is critical information when it comes to legal issues or
the interpretation of prehistoric bone fractures. There is an extensive difference in fracture
properties that depend both on the time that has passed since death, and the type of environment
where the specimen has been exposed after death. A study was performed by Luis Coelho and Hugo
F.V. Cardoso, the purpose of this study was to determine the effects of different environments and
the time of exposure in the environment on bone fracturepatterns. They are taking a Forensic
anthropological approach in which bonetissue quality (whether the bone is dry(postmortem) or
fresh (perimortem)), is used, instead of using time intervals relative to the tume of death. The
Fractured Freshness Index, which combines fractureangle, fracture surface, and fracture outline as
criteria to determine the time of bone fracture, was used along with postmortem interval. Fresh
limbs from pig and goat were exposed to three different environments. Seven sets of ten
segments of the limbs were either buried, submerged, or left on ground surface. Five segments
were pig and five were goat. Each sets were buried within twenty eight days of the previous. The
postmortem intervals were 28, 56, 84, 112, 140, 168, and 196 days. The first set was buried for 196
days and the last set was buried for 28

Self Respect Is A Very Powerful Term
Neel Bhagat ENG 111 September 09, 2015 Self respect is a very powerful term. Self respect is
something that has to be earned; it has to be earned from you for yourself. Self respect has to be
learned by oneself, nobody is born with self respect for himself or herself; it s not an instinct.
Many people take pride in their sense of self respect. Self respect is a vital part of ones existence.
Self respect is developed throughout a persons lifetime through many different experiences and
encounters with other people, oneself and society. According to Merriam Webster collegiate
dictionary the meaning of self respect is 1: a proper respect of oneself as a human being 2:
regard for one s own standing or position . Self respect can come in many shapes and forms.
There is no mandated definition for this word. It is all what meaning you make of it. Self
respect is essential when it comes to making decisions for one self. The level of self respect you
have for yourself determines how good you are at making judgments for yourself and others.
Lets say you are going out to dinner with your friends and your friend is a really cheap as a
person, and will make the excuse of saying that he forgot his wallet at home and will ask you to
cover for him this time and that he will pay you back whenever he sees you next. Next time you

Australian Aborigines and their Crisis
Australia s Aborigines are often hailed as the world s longest surviving culture, easily dating back
60,000 years, existing long before many ancient societies such as the Greeks and Romans. Since
they are such an old culture many people wonder how they were able to remain in existence for so
long while of culture perished around them. The answer can be found in their adaptive nature;
having such a close bound with the land around them, taught the aboriginals the importance of
change and adapting (Australia.gov.au). While it might be debatable that Australia s natives are the
longest surviving culture, there is no doubt that the Aborigines animistic religion is the oldest
existing. Their religion is ripe with multiple different gods, often represented in the forms of
animals or notable landscape features. There is no one central god, instead many deities were
spread across the continent of Australia, each spirit fulfilling their role in the world. Creation
beings were involved in the creation of the world, ancestral beings taught humans how to hunt and
make weapons, totemic beings were the original form of animals. Being a culture that places high
emphasize on their religion, many of the dot art, a form of painting or drawing that involves
creating hundreds of small dots to create the overall picture, is often found in caves or the sides of
rocks, the some

Reoccurring Theme Of Death In Emily Dickinson s Poems
Emily Dickinson poems seem to have the same reoccurring theme, which takes on a negative
perspective on life; this is the theme of death. The theme of death is frequently used to express her
feelings throughout her life. Everyone has experienced the emotions that come with death, whether
it is a close family member, distant friends or even through storylines of movies. She uses the
subject of deathto connect with the audience on an emotional level while also expressing her
own feelings through her poems. The theme of death is expressed in the majority of her poems.
They share almost the exact same idea of death such as, the act of grieving. Her poems might be
similar but they all have a different understanding and perspective of death whether it is positive
or negative. The poem, I heard a Fly Buzz when I died describes the scene and atmosphere of the
moment when death comes. Dickinson creates an image of someone lying on a bed with only
being able to hear the sound of a fly. She uses the fly buzz as a symbol of death and all the things
associated with dying. This poem paints a perfect picture of her idea of what happens before
death, during death and after death. Dickinson uses imagery by using descriptive language such as,
the stillness in the room and air to portray what is it like before death.... Show more content on

Popsile Constraints
Our group started to look at the creative constraints before designing the container which
included 12 popsicle sticks, 5 10 index cards, 1 meter of duct tape, and 1 plastic bag, and the
container had to fit the base of a pie plate. Since we had to prove if 1 cubic cm is equal to 1 ml of
water, we had to fit 1 liter of water in our container. Our group started discussing what shape we
wanted to do and soon we decided making a cube because it would be easy to build and it makes
sense. Before building the container had to made a plan, our plan was to start building from
bottom to top. So we started off with the base, but before we did that we had to make the
dimensions which were 10 cm for the length, 10 cm for the width, and 10 cm for the height and
it equals out to 1,000 cm. We planned to use all of the materials, but we had to cut or bend them.
We cut the popsicle sticks to 10 cm and bent the index cards at the 10 cm mark that we made
with a ruler. We placed the popsicle sticks in an X formation and connected the sides with more
popsicle sticks, so in total we used 6 popsicle sticks. We duct taped the sides of the base and
started working on the sides of the container. We taped the 4 bent index cards to the base and
taped popsicle sticks in the inside of the container vertically. We place the bag inside and called it

Women Are Controlled And Guided By Patriarchal Male Gaze
Essentially, a woman s place in society s stratification is defined by the outward manifestation of
her person, which is identified first and foremost by her gender. Simone de Beauvoir asserts that
women are characterized as others or as not male . This distinction would not be possible if
women were not recognizable by sight as not male. Due to this, it is relevant to look at film and its
associations with visual representations of the womanand the male gaze. As John Berger recognises
men act, women appear...men look at women...women themselves being looked at . This succinctly
defines that the position of women in patriarchal culture depends on look and elucidates that
women exist only in relation to men. Thus, this essay will explore to what extent women are
controlled and guided by the patriarchal male gaze as is reflected in visual popular culture, in
particular, narrative cinema, with specific reference to Laura Mulveys essay Visual Pleasure and
Narrative Cinema. In her essay, Mulvey explores the representation of women in culture,
specifically the woman as an icon, displayed for the gaze and the enjoyment of men and discusses
two categories of pleasurable looking: voyeurism and narcissism. Voyeurism is concerned with
deriving pleasure from viewing a distant other, and projecting one s fantasies onto that person,
while narcissism is involved with some form of association or recognition with one s self in the
image of another one is viewing. For Mulvey,

Speech Recognition Essay
Speech Recognition Nowadays, computer systems play a major role in our lives. They are used
everywhere beginning with homes, offices, restaurants, gas stations, and so on. Nonetheless, for
some, computers still represent the machine they will never know how to use. Communicating with
a computer is done using a keyboard or a mouse, devices many people are not comfortable using.
Speech recognition solves this problem and destroys the boundaries between humans and
computers. Using a computer will be as easy as talking with your friend. Unfortunately, scientists
have discovered that implementing a perfect speech recognition system is no easy task. This report
will present the principles and the major approaches to speech... Show more content on

Increasing the number of words isn t enough because the speech recognition system is unable to
differentiate words like to and two or right and write (6 ,p.98). Use of Grammar Using grammar,
differentiating words like to and two or right and write is possible. Grammar is also used to
speed up a speech recognition system by narrowing the range of the search (6,p.98). Grammar
also increases the performance of a speech recognition system by eliminating inappropriate word
sequencing. However, grammar doesn t allow random dictation which is a problem for some
applications (6, p.98). Continuous vs. Discrete Speech When speaking to each other, we don t
pause between words. In other words, we use continuous speech. However, for speech recognition
systems, there is difficulty in dealing with continuous speech (6, p.98). The easy way out will be
using discrete speech where we pause between words (6, p.100). With discrete speech input, the
silent gap between words is used to determine the boundary of the word, whereas in continuous
speech, the speech recognition system must separate words using an algorithm which is not a
hundred per cent accurate. Still, for a small vocabulary and using grammar, continuous speech

The problem with this model was that it was prone to deadly fires in rear end collisions. Ford s
internal documents showed the company knew of the potential problem but chose not to fix it,
calculating that it would be cheaper to pay out possible injury claims. Following the deaths of
three teenage girls in Indiana, Ford was indicted for negligent homicide although the company
was acquitted (Levin, 2015). This model was finally recalled in 1978 and the vehicle was
installed with new part to deflect the contact in rear end collisions. The Ford Explorer also
caused an ethical issue in the 2000 s when more than 100 people did in this model. Many of the
Ford Explorers were equipped with Firestone tires which caused a debate as to whether or not the
vehicles were too large and prone to rollovers The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
pointed the finger at Firestone tires, some of which reportedly had a tendency to shred. Firestone
recalled 6.5 million tires. Ford in 2001 ousted its chief executive officer, Jacques Nasser (Levin,
2015).

The Cost Of Paying Attention By Matthew Crawford
In the article The Cost of Paying Attention , Matthew Crawford, the editor for The New York
Times, argues that paying attention is a very valuable resource. Crawford argues that a person
only has so much of it. He states that things like advertisements can easily distract people from
what they need to focus on. He stresses the importance of silence because silence is hard to come
by and it s what make it possible to think. Since it s much harder to pay attentionwith all the
distraction being around, it s better to prioritize one s brainso distraction won t happen...
(Crawford) Throughout my entire life, I realized it was difficult for me to pay attention for more
than 15 minutes, so I had to try different methods when paying attention to remain focus. Now that
I have overcome that weakness, you can t pay me to lose focus from anything. I have now learned
which of my tasks have certain amounts of importance levels when it comes to getting things done.
I agree with the fact that now days paying attention is important, silence is offered as a luxurious
good and it also contributes to creativity and innovation.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only time we honestly have it is when we are sleep. Any other time you need silence

to explain the effectiveness of silence in business class lounges. He states that when you step
inside, the entire mood of the environment feels different. In my opinion, it makes complete
sense because the mood is a different feel when going into a quiet luxurious place. I once went
into a lounge in an airport, and as soon as I entered, I felt as if I was in the rich people land. The
silence and peacefulness of those quiet places is what give everyone the ability to gather their
thoughts and there is no one there to distract

To what extent is there hope at the end of Lord of the Flies ?
There is an imbalance in ending of Lord of the Flies , there are more indications of no hope of
rescue than there are of hope. Before the Second World War, Golding believed that humans can
be perfected. He thought that society plays a big role in the nature of humans and by perfecting
society, evil can be eradicated. However, after the war, he realised the human potential for
destruction. Not simply killing one another, by exterminating large groups based on their race and
beliefs. This was intentional and was carried out by skilled professionals. His intention was to
show that Coral Island was not a true representation of how young boys would behave on an island.

Their intention was to lure Ralph out of the forest by setting it alight or to burn Ralph alive while
he is in the forest. If the hunt was successful then this would be the third murder on the island. The
isolation from civilised values has driven the boys to fight and kill each other.
It is ironic that the naval officer is meant to represent civilization and society but actually
represents the evil present in civilization just like the boys themselves. He is a soldier who fights
in wars and kills soldiers in the opposing armies.
The first image of Jack and his group is presented as something dark and a creature before
Golding goes on to explain the creature was a party of boys . The beast turns out to be the evil
within the children themselves. Jack conflicts with most of the other major characters from the
beginning. He calls Piggy Fatty on several occasions and opposes Ralph almost every step of the
way. As the novel progresses, Jack becomes more dominating, slowly losing all of his former
morals and school boy values. A turning point in the novel where this is evident is when Jack
paints his face, He made one cheek and one eye socket white . Jack becomes another figure of
authority on the island by force.
Whereas, Piggy is the only character on the island who does not change for the worse, he may not

The Three Powerful Men In The Triumvirate In Ancient Rome
A triumvirate is a group of three powerful people who rule an area. The agreement can be written
or unwritten. The three people would, theoretically have an equal say on dealing in the territory, in
this case, Rome. However, one person usually stood out in the group as the leader. In Ancient
Rome, there were 2 triumvirates. The First Triumviratewas formed in 60 B.C. to share the power
and make each person more powerful than before. The three men in the triumvirate were Julius
Caesar, Marcus Licinius Crassus, and Pompey the Great. Caesar was elected consul in Gaul,
where he became very successful. Following the death of Crassus, a rivalry between the Caesar
and Pompey erupted. The Senate ordered Caesar to disband his army and return to Rome.

Essay On European And Japanese Feudalism
Back in Middle Ages, the people of both Japan and Europe both dealt with the same problem:
Feudalism. Overall both where very similar: both had a weak ruler and had someone under them
ruling the country, both had a superior military and both economies depended on the people.
Although as you get deeper you find out each is set up in its own way. Europe had kings that ruled
the countries yet all followed what the Popesaid. Japan had an emperor yet the shogun had all the

Both soldiers from each society followed a strict code. The famous European knights wore fully
iron plated suits and carried shields and heavy broad swords. They fought and died by a code
called The Code of Chivalry. This coded stated that all knights spoke the truth at all times, to
keep their faith, to respect women, to always keep their honor and glory, respect those of higher
power, and since they were Catholic they didn t believe in suicide. As for the legendary samurai
of Japan, they were different. The samurai wore light leather armor that had iron plates on the
chest, forearms, and shines. They carried a very light yet very deadly sword called a katana.
Unlike the broad sword, the katana took a delicate process by a skilled crafts man to make. Each
katana was so unique, no two are the same. The samurai lived by a code too called Bushido.
Bushido s main concept was about frugality, loyalty, martial arts mastery, and honor unto death. The
honor unto death part was taken so seriously the samurai had a ritual suicide technique they use
when they were losing in battle or in other situations as capital punishment called seppuku. This
process was adapted into bushido so that the person preforming the act would keep their

Housman’s Poem, To an Athlete Dying Young Essay
This poem is a part of Housman s most famous volume of work called A Shropshire Lad. In these
works Housman wanted the reader to think about life and the meaning of it all. In one of Housman
s most celebrated poems To an Athlete Dying Young , Critics dissect the themes of staying on top
eternally, dying when one is a champion, and not letting the fame fade. Critic Scott Kilvert says that
Housman voices the familiar passions of humanity with a deathdealing sweetness (Scott Kilvert

The athlete escaped the pain of watching himself loose his ability. The athlete now will be
remembered as a champion and nothing else (John 1858).
In every stanza some new theme or idea is introduced. The first stanza or lines 1 4 seems to have
an association with the Greek Olympiad. In lines 2 4 the reaction of the townspeople is
established. The athlete ...was placed on an emotional and psychological pedestal... (Ruby230).
This athlete was carried shoulder high through the towns place. In line 3 the men and boys are
single out. This singly out could refer to the Greek obsession and love for the physical beauty of
the male body (Ruby 231). Critic Bruce Meyer believes that the athlete was not only a champion
in himself, but was the champion for the town or this society of people. This athlete is a symbol
of the perfection and idealism that society craves. (Meyer 238). The townspeople adore what the
athlete has done because they feel he represents their people (Meyer 238). The athlete has now
died in stanza two, and moved on. The athlete is still being carried shoulder high but know to his
grave sight. The line The road all runners come implicates that all humans run the road of life,
they must also journey to death (Cummings, scr.1). The threshold in line seven where the athletes
body is placed may be a number of things. In this case it may be the literal meaning of the edges of
the grave or it could be

The Rwandan Genocide took place for in 1994 where the Hutus began to massacre the Tutsis due
to many years of oppression aided by Belgian influences. While the Palestinian Genocide occurred
between 1947 1948 and Zionists wished to overtake Palestinian land and remove all Arab influences
while expanding upon their territory. Yet, the Rwandan Genocide
and the Palestinian Genocide had
a distinguished similarity; to ethnically cleanse the land. Post WWII, Jew s wished for land
separate from European Anti Semitic beliefs. The Holocaust had further pushed Zionists agenda to
take Palestine due to their historical and religious background within the land. Thus, a significant
amount of Jews from Europe and America called for a separate Jewish state. During this time,
Britain had a mandate over Palestine and were authorized to rule the land. However, given that the
dispute was becoming increasingly controversial, the British withdrew from the conflict and gave
authority of the land to the UN. Then the UN had formed the UNSCOP, United Nation Special
Committee on Palestine. Their objective was to separate Jewish and Arab land. There the UN
authorized the Israeli state and caused the displacement of thousands of Palestinians. They had
forced the Palestinians to flee their villages in order to place arriving Jewish settlers. Various
tactics were used to remove Palestinians from the land. For instance. Israelis used arab radio

Should College Tuition Be Free
Imagine having to pay $25,620 just for a college education, research has shown the average
bachelor s degree holder takes 21 years to pay off his or her loans. This leads to the question if
college tuition should be free or not. While some may believe it ought to be others disagree.
People like Arne Duncan believe college tuition should be free. The cost of college should never
discourage anyone from going after a valuable degree. Meanwhile people such as Matt Bruenig
disagree. Making college free for everyone would almost certainly mean giving far more money to
students from richer families than from poorer ones.
To start off, some people strongly concur that college tuition should be free. For example free
college tuition means more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the reasons why people believe that college tuition shouldn t be free is because taxes and
fees will be increased. Many students can afford to pay a considerable amount toward their higher
education. It is wasteful to give them a free ride. Eric Maskin explains. Just because some
students can t pay their college tuition doesn t mean everyone can t therefore there is no need
for college tuition to be free. College loans are often the first major financial dealing that people
work with. Paying them off in a timely manner proves you know how to budget your money,
skills people use again and again when buying cars or houses. Without having to pay for school,
that experience won t exist, which might be trouble down the road for buying that house or car.
In reason to college shouldn t be free because college might not seem as important and private
schools may have to be closed. If college becomes free for students, colleges will attract more
young people who are not suited for college and more students will major in fields with little or
no market value. Students may skip class or not try their hardest of the fact that they don t need to
get their cash s worth when they aren t paying for anything. As enrollment at public schools
increases, so do the fees. Either more money would have to be given to the schools, or they would
have to create waitlists. This means that the taxes for education related purposes might go up, or
funding for something else (such as military expenditures). After consideration some may believe
that college tuition shouldn t be

Nutritional Deficiency Of Vitamin And Its Effects On The...
Nutritional deficiency of Zn in humans is associated with major disease conditions like growth
retardation, cell mediated immune dysfunction, cognitive impairment and increased susceptibility
to infection. Zn modulates various aspects of the immune system. Many in vivo studies have
shown the impact of Zn deficiency and supplementation on the normal development and key
functions of immune cells. Dietary Zn deficiency is known to influence the onset of autoimmune
diseases and also prolongs disease severity 35. A study showed that Zn suppresses Th17 mediated
rheumatoid arthritis by inhibiting Th17 cell development 36. Furthermore, Zn supplementation
therapy partially restores these immune deficiencies. Higher Zn intake is associated with improved
resistance to infection and reduced duration of illness and improvements in specific lymphocyte
subpopulation numbers for example T regs, Th1 and Th2 cells 37. In this study we show that zinc
supplementation induced a tolerogenic phenotype in DCs both in vitro and in vivo and promoted
the development of regulatory T cells and affected the Treg Th17 balance favourably to induce
tolerance. DCs are major mediators of proinflammmatory and anti inflammatory (tolerogenic)
responses 12. Tolerogenic DCs function by causing effector T cell deletion, anergy and induction of
regulatory T cells 17. Tolerogenic DCs are induced by a variety of environmental factors such as the
presence of immunosuppressive drugs, nutritional factors,

Karl Marx Abolishment Of Individual Property
Carl Marx is best known as the father of communism. Marx believes that in order to have a fair
and just society private property must be eliminated and the means of production should belong
to the people. This is a vastly different stance than other philosophers such as Locke, who
believes private property should be protected by the government. Marx argues that the
abolishment of individual property will lead to the demise of the oppressive, capitalist society, but
fails to acknowledge the downfalls of an industrial system will still exist. In this passage, Marx
amplifies the need for the Proletariat to eliminate the institution of individual, or private, property.
He argues that ...classes that got the upper hand sought to fortify their already acquired status by
subjecting society at large to their conditions of appropriation. This is to say that the bourgeoisie
created a system of oppressed and oppressor, them as the oppressor, to protect their own wealth
and property. The class system and capitalist society is not for the majority who are being
oppressed, the proletariat. The proletariat must destroy the system of individual property that they
are suffering in and that generations of people have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of this, there still is a separation of classes in society. There have been societies that
have attempted to eliminate private property and adopt a socialist society. None of these have
been successful. While they did stray from Marx s ideal system, it is clear to see that the
elimination of private property is not the only step that needs to be taken in order to undo the
class system. Marx may argue that the destruction of private property would give the lower
classes more freedom and destroys the system of oppression, but it will not give back the
workman his individuality. Private property is not the only source of oppression as we have seen in

Distinguishing Factors In The Other Wes Moore
Distinguishing Factors
One of the great things about the The other Wes Moore is the simple retelling of two completely
different lives. It is interesting how Moore does not advise but rather hopes that each person will
develop their own idea and construct about what the moral of the story may be. And furthermore
about how it applies to an individual s life.
The story starts with the question of what if? That question starts the reader off in a state of mind
to question the turning point for each person. There are many key ideas that led two children of
similar background to completely different lives. The main cause for both Wes Moore s would
arguably be the families in which each character was surrounded by. And it is actually that idea that
shows that they did not begin with the same background at all. Each boy had a family and heritage
that they grew up with that influenced their train of thought and behaviors. Moore, the writer of the
book seemed to be (later on) thankful to his parents for the comforts that they gave up that led him

What Is The Meaning Of The Literary Analysis Of Psalm 42
Not only did psalm 42 stand out immediately to me for its literary elements within the first verse,
but for its poetic style and language as well. This psalm is a lyrical one with plenty of emotion
and literary figures. The latter ranges from similes to parallelism and everything in between, all
accumulating to form the psalm s meaning. To begin with, I will point out that the psalm is told
through first person point of view. The speaker or persona is presentthroughout the entire psalm,
using I and my to describe his thoughts, feelings, and memories. One instance is in the beginning
stanzawhere he asks himself, [when] shall I come and behold the face of God? (Ps. 42.2).
Already this tells the reader that this will be a very personal psalm, allowing insight into the
speaker s mind. The speaker is filled with anguish, but also strongly desires God s presence in his
life. The setting of this psalm takes place in both the past and present. In the past, the speaker
mentions how I went with the throng and led them in procession to the house of God (Ps.42.4).
The footnotes provide information about how the speaker recollects his memories of the Temple,
seemingly homesick for its protection. The present location for the speaker is from the land of
Jordan and of Hermon, from Mount Mizar (Ps.42.6). As the footnotes point out, this is far from
Jerusalem. God is addressed directly in the psalm as the speaker declares that his soullongs for you,
O God, (Ps.42.1).

Nowadays, online shopping has become one of the most convenient and popular ways to sell and

The Innate Immune System And Pattern Recognition Receptors
The Innate Immune System and Pattern Recognition Receptors The innate immune system, which
is also known as the non specific immune system, is an important component of the immune system
that recognizes and responds to potential pathogens in a generic fashion. In contrast to the adaptive
immune system, the innate immune systemdoes not confer long lasting/protective immunity. The
innate immune system is typically considered the first line of defense and displays the ability to
discriminate against self (host) vs. non self (non host/potential pathogens). In order to recognize
non self molecules the innate immune system utilizes a range of pattern recognition receptors
(PRRs) to detect molecules associated with potential pathogens.

Illness Through The Eye Of The Beholder
Illness Through the Eye of the Beholder Because identities are both externally prescribed and
internally experienced, it is crucial that we evaluate the methodology by which medical
professionals identify and treat illnesses. At the point where suffering is unique to each individual,
it is important that we also consider the tools that each person has to describe their symptomology,
as to elucidate their sufferingin the context of the clinical perspective so that appropriate resources
and treatments would be made available to them. One such methodology used to understand
illnesses is known as the illnessnarrativein which Dr. Arthur Kleinman describes in his book, The
Illness Narratives, as [An] alternative therapeutic approach [originating] in the reconceptualization
of medical care as (1) empathic witnessing of the existential experience of suffering and (2)
practical coping with the major psychosocial crises that constitute the menacing chronicity of that
experience (10). Kleinman argues that this type of engagement between the doctor and the patient
is key to the recovery process of the patient. However, his argument relies on one, the effectiveness
of empathy through storytelling within the doctor patient relationship, and two, the ability of the
doctor to fully understand the illness experience depicted by the patient. These two implicit
assumptions are contested by Toni Morrison in her novel, Home, where she asserts that we cannot
fully empathize with another s

The Theory Of Utilitarianism And Rule Utilitarianism
Have you eaten breakfast this morning? Put on clean clothes? Did you have a bed to sleep in at
the end of your day? For millions of less fortunate around the world, the answer to those questions
is no. Knowing this is true, can you continue to go about your day and claim to be a moral and
ethical person? In order to obtain the greatest pleasure for the greatest number of people, it is clear
that you in order to uphold your moral duty; you must contribute to those experiencing poverty.
When applying this concept to the consequentialist theory of utilitarianism, it is important to first
examine the difference between act utilitarianism and rule utilitarianism. As Mosser explains, act
utilitarianism tells us that we must question what single act would generate the greatest good.
Whereas, rule utilitarianism evaluates the actions themselves and determines what would produce
an outcome that institutes the greatest good. (2013 sec. 6.1) From an act utilitarian standpoint,
say you had a hundred dollars to spend lavishly. If you purchased the designer shirt you have
been looking at for weeks, you would definitely be happy, you would make the person selling the
shirt happy, and you would make the company making the shirt happy. Yet, if you were to give the
same hundred dollars to charity and it fed a family for a week, gave them new clothing, the
medicine they needed, and better shelter this action would outweigh your pleasure from the shirt
you purchased. Not only from

Analyzing Networked Control Systems For Network Induced...
Abstract Networked Control Systems (NCS) are the control systems in which the control loop is
connected through a communication channel. There has been an increased attention to the use of
Network Control System (NCS) in recent years because of their cost effective and flexible
applications. But one of the major issues that need to be studied and solved in NCS is the delay of
the data transmission which occurs throughout the communication network in the system and thus
degrades the control systemperformance and also causes the system instability. This paper
basically presents an analysis of network delay in NCS. In this paper, we have designed a model
of delay control system for network induced delay using the simulation model of network control
system delay and thus analysed the effect of network delay on the performance of the control
system. The TrueTime toolbox of Matlab/Simulink is used for simulating the NCS model.
Keywords networked control system, network delay, control performance, truetime, stability
I.INTRODUCTION
In conventional control systems, control signals are sent over the loop using analog or digital
technology whereas in modern control systems, the control loop is closed through a real time
communication network by T. C. Yang et al. [1]. The Networked Control Systems (NCSs) are the
distributed control systems in which the system components (sensors, actuators and controllers) are
connected by communication networks [2]. One

Essay about Book Summary The Bible Among the Myths
INTRODUCTION
The book opens with an introduction comparing the study of the Old Testament and the other
religions and cultures of other peoples from the Ancient Near East. Scholars used to believe that the
Old Testament was unique among other beliefs in the Ancient Near East but they now view the Old
Testament as identical to other religions of its day and time.
The author also discusses the vital philosophical distinction between essence and accident. When
removing an essential feature of an object, it will cease to be itself but if you remove an
accidental feature of an object, there will be no change in the object s essential being.
The author also introduces the characteristics of myth.
1) That human beings have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the groups of definitions falls under the category of the historical philosophical definition.
The first definition of myth in this category is the etymological definition. This definition stresses
the falsity of the deity or event or thing being described. The second is the sociological theological
definition where the truth is seen as relative and something is considered true if it is seen as true
by others. The third is the literary definition. These kinds of definitions claim to make no value
judgment about their material. The events are not seen as right or wrong and the narrative makes
use of symbolism to express it meaning.
The many definitions of a myth have one thing in common; they all give to the philosophy of
continuity. Continuity assumes that all things are not only related to one another, but are literally
one another in some fashion. Overall it can be said that whatever the Bible is, whether symbol or
literal, true or false, it is not myth.
CHAPTER THREE
CONTINUITY: THE BASIS OF MYTHICAL THINKING
As the title of this chapter is Continuity: The Basis of Mythical Thinking the author gives further
details about what he touched on at the end of chapter two. The presence of continuity is the one
thing that myths have in common. The way of thinking in continuity views all things as part of
each other in

The History of Modern World
The History of Modern World
On August 6 and 9, 1945, the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were destroyed by the first
atomic bombs used in warfare, killing over 150,000 Japanese and inflicting radiation poisoning on
more still. Five days later on August 14, Japan surrendered. The need to defeat Japan and to end
the Second World War is the most commonly held view about dropping the atomic bombs on
Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Some argue however that this was not the main reason for dropping these
two bombs in 1945.
On April 12, 1945, President Franklin D. Roosevelt died and so as Vice President, Harry S. Truman
became the thirty third American President. Roosevelt had failed to inform his vice ... Show more

Benjamin Cohen justified the dropping of the bombs by saying, Any weapon that would bring
an end to the war and save a million casualties among American boys was justified and we were
talking about dealing with the people who hadn t hesitated at Pearl Harbor to make a sneak
attack destroying not only ships but the lives of many America soldiers. The US government used
a lot of propaganda as a way to remind Americans of the attack on Pearl Harbor, this was mostly in
the form of posters showing the atrocities of destroyed fleet.
Many scientists and historians have questioned whether part of Truman s decision to drop the
bombs was to test this new type of weapon. A previous nuclear test explosion was conducted in a
desert in New Mexico however this did not show what the bombs were capable of in a populated
area. Scientists did give Truman alternative locations to test the bombs such as uninhabited
islands but the president wanted to properly see what the new weapon could do. A secret report
sent to President Truman in April 1945 by the scientists who made the bomb said, We remind you
of the report sent to President Roosevelt in 1940. It spoke of the danger of radiation, which will
kill men, women and children for several miles

Security Features Of The Cloud Services
We can protect the data on cloud by decreasing its value to the attacker or intruder. We can achieve
this by seeding false information in other word using disinformation attack. We imagine thatsecure
cloud services can be implemented given six other security features: a. Confusing the intruder
/masquerader with bogus information. b. Confuse the intruder by false information c. Secure the
confidential data form web administrator. d. Block the masquerader. e. Enhanced Authentication
with OTP. f. Data security using AES encryption technique a. Monitoring the undesired behavior
of the user: We imagine that the combination of these security features will provide high level of
security for the Cloud. currently no other system can provide this level of security .We have
used these concepts to notice illegal data access to data stored on a local file system by
masqueraders, i.e. attackers who copy valid users after theft their identification .Our trial results
in a local file system setting show that combining both techniques can produce better results, and
our results advise that this approach may work in a Cloud environment, as the Cloud is proposed
to be as clear to the user as a local file system. In the following we analysis briefly some of the
trial results achieved by using this approach to detect masquerade activity in a local file setting.[11]
b. Confuse the intruder by false information We suggest the use of decoy information technology.

  • 2. Analysis Of Laura Mulvey s Film, Visual Pleasure And... Katlyn Riggins WGST 343: 500 Fall 2015 Topic Number 4 Women in film are often portrayed in a manner deemed pleasurable to the male viewer. Laura Mulvey takes this concept and dissects it within her article Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema. Mulvey references the term male gaze, wom[en] displayed as sexual object[s] is the leitmotif of erotic spectacle: from pin ups to strip tease, from Ziegfeld to Busby Berkeley, she holds the look, and plays to and signifies male desire (Mulvey 40). Because of this interpretation it is relevant to examine different forms of media, such as films, to establish if the male gaze is present. Furthermore, it is appropriate to analyze films directed by women to identify the male gaze, due to their unique interpretation of female character s visual representation. In the essay that follows, it will consider Girlfight and Dance, Girl, Dance to analyze how two separate female filmmakers, Karyn Kusama and Dorothy Arzner respectfully, challenge the theory of the male gaze, along with comparing and contrasting the methods in which such challenges were made, and finally it will address how any filmmaker may object the male gaze. Within the film Girlfight, director Karyn Kusama presents the audience with a strong female protagonist. Actor Michelle Rodriguez debuts her career portraying the lead role of Diana and gives the audience a unique interpretation of the character. We first see the heroine, through a crowd of teenagers walking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Ban On Tobacco Advertising And The Conflict Of Interest... Ban on Tobacco Advertisement in India The discussion of advertising tobacco products is a controversial topic, there are relevant points on both sides of the argument, so it is hard to determine a true ethical decision. India s government announced the bill banning tobacco companies from advertising their products in February 2001, their goal is to prevent adolescents from taking up smoking or any other form of tobacco products. Initiating this bill is the government answer to an ethical challenge, they are protecting the health of the entire country, rather than the financial future of one industry. (Bauer, 2016) Immediately, there was an uproar that sparked this intense debate, arguments between health concerns versus constitutional rights. In this paper I would like to discuss the pros and cons of banning the advertisement of tobacco products and the conflict of interest that it presents. In favor of the ban, there are multiple countries, such as France, Finland, and Norway, that have made the decision to prohibit tobacco companies from promoting their products. This ban extends to advertisements, as well as sponsorship of sporting and cultural events. While these countries have been able to keep most of these ads off their television and radio outlets, there are still a few that have been able to sneak by, through international programming. (IBS Center for Management Research, n.d.) Tobacco is currently the most dangerous consumer product out there, it is highly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You may not know or see it, but there is heroes in everyday life. I know, shocking right! There are heroes everywhere you go, school, work, even Walmart! There are a lot of things a hero can do to become or show that he/she is a hero. Well I bet you are wondering what are some examples that make a regular person, just like you, a hero. A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself. Joseph Campbell. This means that a hero has given his/her life to put somebody or something that is important before his/her self. A coward gets scared and quits. A hero gets scared, but still goes on, Anonymous. It is very common for the Japanese to go out after work to bars, karaoke s, or restaurants. If you are invited you should make an effort to go, as good relationships with those whom you work with are important. The well being of the group is always placed above the individual in their culture. • 12. Determining Primortem Trauma in Forsic Pathology and... There are many factors involved in the determination of perimortem trauma time in both forensic pathology and forensic anthropology. This is critical information when it comes to legal issues or the interpretation of prehistoric bone fractures. There is an extensive difference in fracture properties that depend both on the time that has passed since death, and the type of environment where the specimen has been exposed after death. A study was performed by Luis Coelho and Hugo F.V. Cardoso, the purpose of this study was to determine the effects of different environments and the time of exposure in the environment on bone fracturepatterns. They are taking a Forensic anthropological approach in which bonetissue quality (whether the bone is dry(postmortem) or fresh (perimortem)), is used, instead of using time intervals relative to the tume of death. The Fractured Freshness Index, which combines fractureangle, fracture surface, and fracture outline as criteria to determine the time of bone fracture, was used along with postmortem interval. Fresh limbs from pig and goat were exposed to three different environments. Seven sets of ten segments of the limbs were either buried, submerged, or left on ground surface. Five segments were pig and five were goat. Each sets were buried within twenty eight days of the previous. The postmortem intervals were 28, 56, 84, 112, 140, 168, and 196 days. Self respect has to be learned by oneself, nobody is born with self respect for himself or herself; it s not an instinct. Many people take pride in their sense of self respect. Self respect is a vital part of ones existence. Self respect is developed throughout a persons lifetime through many different experiences and encounters with other people, oneself and society. Self respect can come in many shapes and forms. There is no mandated definition for this word. It is all what meaning you make of it. • 14. Australian Aborigines And Their Crisis Madison Lafitte Karol Chandler Ezell Cultural Anthropology 231.001 11/17/2014 Australian Aborigines and their Crisis Australia s Aborigines are often hailed as the world s longest surviving culture, easily dating back 60,000 years, existing long before many ancient societies such as the Greeks and Romans. Since they are such an old culture many people wonder how they were able to remain in existence for so long while of culture perished around them. The answer can be found in their adaptive nature; having such a close bound with the land around them, taught the aboriginals the importance of change and adapting (Australia.gov.au). While it might be debatable that Australia s natives are the longest surviving culture, there is no doubt that the Aborigines animistic religion is the oldest existing. Their religion is ripe with multiple different gods, often represented in the forms of animals or notable landscape features. There is no one central god, instead many deities were spread across the continent of Australia, each spirit fulfilling their role in the world. The theme of death is frequently used to express her feelings throughout her life. Everyone has experienced the emotions that come with death, whether it is a close family member, distant friends or even through storylines of movies. She uses the subject of deathto connect with the audience on an emotional level while also expressing her own feelings through her poems. The theme of death is expressed in the majority of her poems. They share almost the exact same idea of death such as, the act of grieving. Her poems might be similar but they all have a different understanding and perspective of death whether it is positive or negative. The poem, I heard a Fly Buzz when I died describes the scene and atmosphere of the moment when death comes. Dickinson creates an image of someone lying on a bed with only being able to hear the sound of a fly. She uses the fly buzz as a symbol of death and all the things associated with dying. Popsile Constraints Our group started to look at the creative constraints before designing the container which included 12 popsicle sticks, 5 10 index cards, 1 meter of duct tape, and 1 plastic bag, and the container had to fit the base of a pie plate. Since we had to prove if 1 cubic cm is equal to 1 ml of water, we had to fit 1 liter of water in our container. Our group started discussing what shape we wanted to do and soon we decided making a cube because it would be easy to build and it makes sense. Before building the container had to made a plan, our plan was to start building from bottom to top. So we started off with the base, but before we did that we had to make the dimensions which were 10 cm for the length, 10 cm for the width, and 10 cm for the height and it equals out to 1,000 cm. We planned to use all of the materials, but we had to cut or bend them. We cut the popsicle sticks to 10 cm and bent the index cards at the 10 cm mark that we made with a ruler. We placed the popsicle sticks in an X formation and connected the sides with more popsicle sticks, so in total we used 6 popsicle sticks. We duct taped the sides of the base and started working on the sides of the container. We taped the 4 bent index cards to the base and taped popsicle sticks in the inside of the container vertically. • 18. Women Are Controlled And Guided By Patriarchal Male Gaze Essentially, a woman s place in society s stratification is defined by the outward manifestation of her person, which is identified first and foremost by her gender. Simone de Beauvoir asserts that women are characterized as others or as not male . This distinction would not be possible if women were not recognizable by sight as not male. Due to this, it is relevant to look at film and its associations with visual representations of the womanand the male gaze. As John Berger recognises men act, women appear...men look at women...women themselves being looked at . This succinctly defines that the position of women in patriarchal culture depends on look and elucidates that women exist only in relation to men. Thus, this essay will explore to what extent women are controlled and guided by the patriarchal male gaze as is reflected in visual popular culture, in particular, narrative cinema, with specific reference to Laura Mulveys essay Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema. In her essay, Mulvey explores the representation of women in culture, specifically the woman as an icon, displayed for the gaze and the enjoyment of men and discusses two categories of pleasurable looking: voyeurism and narcissism. Voyeurism is concerned with deriving pleasure from viewing a distant other, and projecting one s fantasies onto that person, while narcissism is involved with some form of association or recognition with one s self in the image of another one is viewing. Now that I have overcome that weakness, you can t pay me to lose focus from anything. There is an imbalance in ending of Lord of the Flies , there are more indications of no hope of rescue than there are of hope. Before the Second World War, Golding believed that humans can be perfected. He thought that society plays a big role in the nature of humans and by perfecting society, evil can be eradicated. However, after the war, he realised the human potential for destruction. Not simply killing one another, by exterminating large groups based on their race and beliefs. Just because some students can t pay their college tuition doesn t mean everyone can t therefore there is no need for college tuition to be free. College loans are often the first major financial dealing that people work with. Paying them off in a timely manner proves you know how to budget your money, skills people use again and again when buying cars or houses. Nutritional deficiency of Zn in humans is associated with major disease conditions like growth retardation, cell mediated immune dysfunction, cognitive impairment and increased susceptibility to infection. Zn modulates various aspects of the immune system. Many in vivo studies have shown the impact of Zn deficiency and supplementation on the normal development and key functions of immune cells. Dietary Zn deficiency is known to influence the onset of autoimmune diseases and also prolongs disease severity 35. A study showed that Zn suppresses Th17 mediated rheumatoid arthritis by inhibiting Th17 cell development 36. Furthermore, Zn supplementation therapy partially restores these immune deficiencies. Higher Zn intake is associated with improved resistance to infection and reduced duration of illness and improvements in specific lymphocyte subpopulation numbers for example T regs, Th1 and Th2 cells 37. Marx believes that in order to have a fair and just society private property must be eliminated and the means of production should belong to the people. Marx argues that the abolishment of individual property will lead to the demise of the oppressive, capitalist society, but fails to acknowledge the downfalls of an industrial system will still exist. In this passage, Marx amplifies the need for the Proletariat to eliminate the institution of individual, or private, property. He argues that ...classes that got the upper hand sought to fortify their already acquired status by subjecting society at large to their conditions of appropriation. It is interesting how Moore does not advise but rather hopes that each person will develop their own idea and construct about what the moral of the story may be. That question starts the reader off in a state of mind to question the turning point for each person. There are many key ideas that led two children of similar background to completely different lives. The main cause for both Wes Moore s would arguably be the families in which each character was surrounded by. And it is actually that idea that shows that they did not begin with the same background at all. What Is The Meaning Of The Literary Analysis Of Psalm 42 Not only did psalm 42 stand out immediately to me for its literary elements within the first verse, but for its poetic style and language as well. This psalm is a lyrical one with plenty of emotion and literary figures. The latter ranges from similes to parallelism and everything in between, all accumulating to form the psalm s meaning. To begin with, I will point out that the psalm is told through first person point of view. The speaker or persona is presentthroughout the entire psalm, using I and my to describe his thoughts, feelings, and memories. One instance is in the beginning stanzawhere he asks himself, [when] shall I come and behold the face of God? (Ps. 42.2). Already this tells the reader that this will be a very personal psalm, allowing insight into the speaker s mind. The speaker is filled with anguish, but also strongly desires God s presence in his life. The setting of this psalm takes place in both the past and present. In the past, the speaker mentions how I went with the throng and led them in procession to the house of God (Ps.42.4). The footnotes provide information about how the speaker recollects his memories of the Temple, seemingly homesick for its protection. The present location for the speaker is from the land of Jordan and of Hermon, from Mount Mizar (Ps.42.6). As the footnotes point out, this is far from Jerusalem. God is addressed directly in the psalm as the speaker declares that his soullongs for you, O God, (Ps.42.1). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One such methodology used to understand illnesses is known as the illnessnarrativein which Dr. Arthur Kleinman describes in his book, The Illness Narratives, as [An] alternative therapeutic approach [originating] in the reconceptualization of medical care as (1) empathic witnessing of the existential experience of suffering and (2) practical coping with the major psychosocial crises that constitute the menacing chronicity of that experience (10). Kleinman argues that this type of engagement between the doctor and the patient is key to the recovery process of the patient. However, his argument relies on one, the effectiveness of empathy through storytelling within the doctor patient relationship, and two, the ability of the doctor to fully understand the illness experience depicted by the patient. These two implicit assumptions are contested by Toni Morrison in her novel, Home, where she asserts that we cannot fully empathize with another s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Theory Of Utilitarianism And Rule Utilitarianism Have you eaten breakfast this morning? Put on clean clothes? Did you have a bed to sleep in at the end of your day? For millions of less fortunate around the world, the answer to those questions is no. Knowing this is true, can you continue to go about your day and claim to be a moral and ethical person? In order to obtain the greatest pleasure for the greatest number of people, it is clear that you in order to uphold your moral duty; you must contribute to those experiencing poverty. When applying this concept to the consequentialist theory of utilitarianism, it is important to first examine the difference between act utilitarianism and rule utilitarianism. As Mosser explains, act utilitarianism tells us that we must question what single act would generate the greatest good. Whereas, rule utilitarianism evaluates the actions themselves and determines what would produce an outcome that institutes the greatest good. (2013 sec. 6.1) From an act utilitarian standpoint, say you had a hundred dollars to spend lavishly. If you purchased the designer shirt you have been looking at for weeks, you would definitely be happy, you would make the person selling the shirt happy, and you would make the company making the shirt happy. Yet, if you were to give the same hundred dollars to charity and it fed a family for a week, gave them new clothing, the medicine they needed, and better shelter this action would outweigh your pleasure from the shirt you purchased. • 45. Analyzing Networked Control Systems For Network Induced... Abstract Networked Control Systems (NCS) are the control systems in which the control loop is connected through a communication channel. There has been an increased attention to the use of Network Control System (NCS) in recent years because of their cost effective and flexible applications. But one of the major issues that need to be studied and solved in NCS is the delay of the data transmission which occurs throughout the communication network in the system and thus degrades the control systemperformance and also causes the system instability. This paper basically presents an analysis of network delay in NCS. In this paper, we have designed a model of delay control system for network induced delay using the simulation model of network control system delay and thus analysed the effect of network delay on the performance of the control system. The TrueTime toolbox of Matlab/Simulink is used for simulating the NCS model. Keywords networked control system, network delay, control performance, truetime, stability I.INTRODUCTION In conventional control systems, control signals are sent over the loop using analog or digital technology whereas in modern control systems, the control loop is closed through a real time communication network by T. C. Yang et al. [1]. The Networked Control Systems (NCSs) are the distributed control systems in which the system components (sensors, actuators and controllers) are connected by communication networks [2]. One ... • 46. Essay about Book Summary The Bible Among the Myths INTRODUCTION The book opens with an introduction comparing the study of the Old Testament and the other religions and cultures of other peoples from the Ancient Near East. Scholars used to believe that the Old Testament was unique among other beliefs in the Ancient Near East but they now view the Old Testament as identical to other religions of its day and time. The author also discusses the vital philosophical distinction between essence and accident. When removing an essential feature of an object, it will cease to be itself but if you remove an accidental feature of an object, there will be no change in the object s essential being. The author also introduces the characteristics of myth. 1) That human beings have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the groups of definitions falls under the category of the historical philosophical definition. The first definition of myth in this category is the etymological definition. This definition stresses the falsity of the deity or event or thing being described. The second is the sociological theological definition where the truth is seen as relative and something is considered true if it is seen as true by others. The third is the literary definition. These kinds of definitions claim to make no value judgment about their material. The events are not seen as right or wrong and the narrative makes use of symbolism to express it meaning. The many definitions of a myth have one thing in common; they all give to the philosophy of continuity. Continuity assumes that all things are not only related to one another, but are literally one another in some fashion. Overall it can be said that whatever the Bible is, whether symbol or literal, true or false, it is not myth. CHAPTER THREE CONTINUITY: THE BASIS OF MYTHICAL THINKING As the title of this chapter is Continuity: The Basis of Mythical Thinking the author gives further details about what he touched on at the end of chapter two. The presence of continuity is the one thing that myths have in common. The way of thinking in continuity views all things as part of each other in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The History of Modern World The History of Modern World On August 6 and 9, 1945, the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were destroyed by the first atomic bombs used in warfare, killing over 150,000 Japanese and inflicting radiation poisoning on more still. Five days later on August 14, Japan surrendered. The need to defeat Japan and to end the Second World War is the most commonly held view about dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Some argue however that this was not the main reason for dropping these two bombs in 1945. On April 12, 1945, President Franklin D. Roosevelt died and so as Vice President, Harry S. Truman became the thirty third American President. Roosevelt had failed to inform his vice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Benjamin Cohen justified the dropping of the bombs by saying, Any weapon that would bring an end to the war and save a million casualties among American boys was justified and we were talking about dealing with the people who hadn t hesitated at Pearl Harbor to make a sneak attack destroying not only ships but the lives of many America soldiers. The US government used a lot of propaganda as a way to remind Americans of the attack on Pearl Harbor, this was mostly in the form of posters showing the atrocities of destroyed fleet. Many scientists and historians have questioned whether part of Truman s decision to drop the bombs was to test this new type of weapon. A previous nuclear test explosion was conducted in a desert in New Mexico however this did not show what the bombs were capable of in a populated area. Scientists did give Truman alternative locations to test the bombs such as uninhabited islands but the president wanted to properly see what the new weapon could do. A secret report sent to President Truman in April 1945 by the scientists who made the bomb said, We remind you of the report sent to President Roosevelt in 1940. It spoke of the danger of radiation, which will kill men, women and children for several miles ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Security Features Of The Cloud Services We can protect the data on cloud by decreasing its value to the attacker or intruder. We can achieve this by seeding false information in other word using disinformation attack. We imagine thatsecure cloud services can be implemented given six other security features: a. Confusing the intruder /masquerader with bogus information. b. Confuse the intruder by false information c. Secure the confidential data form web administrator. d. Block the masquerader. e. Enhanced Authentication with OTP. f. Data security using AES encryption technique a. Monitoring the undesired behavior of the user: We imagine that the combination of these security features will provide high level of security for the Cloud. currently no other system can provide this level of security .We have used these concepts to notice illegal data access to data stored on a local file system by masqueraders, i.e. attackers who copy valid users after theft their identification .Our trial results in a local file system setting show that combining both techniques can produce better results, and our results advise that this approach may work in a Cloud environment, as the Cloud is proposed to be as clear to the user as a local file system. In the following we analysis briefly some of the trial results achieved by using this approach to detect masquerade activity in a local file setting.[11] b. Confuse the intruder by false information We suggest the use of decoy information technology. We monitor data access in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
