2. An Analysis Of Corrie Ten Boom s The Hiding Place
Can you imagine a corrupted, twisted, and merciless dictator slaughtering your friends and neighbors
all around you? This is what Corrie ten Boom and the rest of her family experienced during World
War Two which she later wrote about in her book The Hiding Place. Although everyone agrees that
Hitler was using his power and influence to eliminate and torture the Jewish race, some strongly
believe Corrie should have ignored the hopeless Jews and lived her life normally. Others however,
claim she should have helped the hundreds of Jews seeking help. Corrie should have hidden the
helpless, desperate, and terrified Jews for three reasons: Helping the Jews is what God would want,

The Nazis were ruthlessly slaughtering the Jews unjustly. The Nazi soldiers were closing Jewish shops
to hurt them and take away their profit. If the Jews were captured, they would be beaten or much
worse. Last but not least the third reason Corrie should have hidden the helpless, desperate, and
terrified Jews was because if the Nazi found them and sent them off to a concentration camp the ten
Booms could bring hope to other prisoners. Because the ten Booms loved God they could bring the
gospel to doubting prisoners. Corrie could deliver the much needed love into the concentration camps.
The ten Boom could bring the comfort of a loving and caring God to the prisoners. People of the
opposing side claim Corrie should have ignored the hopeless Jews and lived her life normally. They
argue the Nazis will eventually find the hidden Jews because one Jew wheezes as loud as a train and
they cannot enter the secret room fast enough. This is inadequate because with practice the Jews were
able to make it to the room and God hid the wheezing from the Nazi

3. Scientific Principles Of Health And Disease
HES 1823 Scientific Principles of Health and disease
Endometriosis: A Disease That Could Stop A Dream For A Family
Natalia Migliaccio
Many people have experienced a disease or disorder sometime in their lifetime. Chronic diseases and
disorders can range from a variety of factors. A specific chronic disease that millions of women
encounter worldwide is endometriosis. The exact cause of endometriosis is unclear but often
encountered in women through genetics and environmental factors. Furthermore, the significance of
endometriosis is commonly associated with and thought to be the cause of pelvic pain and infertility
(Giudice and Kao 1789). Endometriosis is a disorder where the endometrial tissue, which is the

nonsurgical. Due to these samples and cases the disease is being more readily recognized. The
estimation for prevalence and incidence within a year varied tremendously. This rate is anywhere from
1 to 50% in reproductive aged women (Child and Lin Tan 1736). According to Missmer et al, a study
was created over a 10 year time period (1989 99) to explore the relationship of endometriosis relative
within certain demographics and lifestyle factors. Trends for specific age data provided that the
incident rates were lowest in women aged 45 52 and a greatest in women aged 25 29 (791). Lastly,
race and ethnicity trends in confirmed endometriosis showed incidence rate for Caucasian women
were 20 40% higher than other races and ethnicities. African American women were at lowest risk for
developing endometriosis, while Asian women were at highest risk (Missmer et al. 791). Any disease
or disorder affects a part or several parts of the human body. Endometriosis primarily affects pelvic
organs in the reproductive system. The endometrial tissue most commonly attaches to the membrane
lining the pelvis, ovaries, ovarian ligaments, fallopian tubes and the thin space between the vagina and
the rectum known as the rectovaginal septum. The tissue can also move and surround areas within the
intestinal wall and abdominal wall including the diaphragm, but is very rare and not likely to happen

4. Examples Of Vengeance In The Odyssey
Most of us have heard of the incredible tale of Odysseus and his 10 year long journey home after the
Trojan War. Throughout The Odyssey, we see a variety of very important themes, such as hospitality,
perseverance, and intelligence. However, there is one theme that stands out among the others, and it is
that of vengeance, because it acts as the basis for the adventure. There are numerous indications that
vengeance is on its way, including Penelope s dream, ... the eagle and the geese, which foretells
Odysseus return and his vengeance..., (Hughes). In The Odyssey, vengeance is sought by Odysseus
because the suitors want to marry his wife, by Helios because Odysseus crew ate his cattle, and by
Poseidon because Odysseus blinded the Cyclops, Poseidon s son. The first act example of someone
seeking vengeance is Odysseus because of the suitors who want to marry his wife. Odysseus...

Zeus, and all ye gods that live forever! Punish those men of Odysseus Laertiades! (145). Zeus replies,
I will soon strike the ship with a thunderbolt, and smash it into smithereens in the middle of the sea!

times and were aware of the consequences, yet they chose to ignore Odysseus

5. The Ceremony Of The Lea Convocation At Grand Rapids...
This past weekend I was honored to take part in the LEA convocation at Grand Rapids Michigan. As
Concordia LTD education major we were invited to participate in the grow a teacher event. At this
event there was a panel of veteran teachers that answered some questions we had, many of the
answers they gave were very helpful. One message that a teacher had for us as future teachers was that
as teachers the best gift we have is the gift of time. We only have these students for a certain amount
of time and in this time we must give them everything we have. Veteran teachers have been practicing
the art of time in education to their students for quite some time now, and I wanted to know how
teaching has evolved during their career. So I interviewed Gayle Harmon with one question in mind
How has time changed and influenced your teaching life? Welcome to Mrs. Gayle Harmon s
classroom! Mrs. Harmon has been teaching in a classroom since 1994, and has taught in many
different states. Mrs. Harmon is a graduate of Concordia College and is a very proud educator. She
currently is teaching second grade at Matoka Elementary school in Virginia for 8 years now, and is the
team leader of her section at Matoka. Being that Mrs. Harmon has taught for quite some time now my
first question was How have your teaching skills evolved since first teaching a class? Mrs. Harmon
chuckled and smiled before responding, she says that With time, comes wisdom and learning . She is

6. The Theory Of Democratic Peace
The Theory of Democratic Peace has been a topic of much debate over the years. Why is this? There
are many opinions on this theory and many questions are raised when speaking about it. The argument
that I pose is, is there such a thing as democratic peace? In order to address my argument and in order
to critically analyse Democratic Peace Theory, this piece of academic writing will look at a variety of
causes that some theorists state are behind the Democratic Peace Theory and will look at the different
branches of the theory. Firstly it will look at what ideology the theory can be drawn from and how the
two can link together to prove that democratic peace can exist. Secondly it will look at if the theory
has helped the spreading of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Essentially, this theory makes the assumption that if there is a war between two countries, it will be
between one that is democratic and one that is not. There has been some evidence that no two
democratic countries have ever been to war, if we are talking about war in the sense of military action
(Griffiths et al., 2008). For example, 353 pairs of states engaged in wars between 1816 1991 and none
was between two democracies: 155 pairs involved a democracy and a non democratic country, and
198 involved two non democratic states fighting each other (Griffiths et al., 2008). A reason for why
democratic peace theorists stress that democratic states fight with only non democratic states is due to
the reason that, they may be dangerous because they seek other ends, such as conquest or plunder
(Owen 1994). When did the theory originate? Democratic Peace Theory, as it came to be known,
emerged as a robust research programme in the post Cold War years (Daddow, 2013). According to
Rosato (2003), the theory is probably the most powerful liberal contribution to the debate on the
causes of war and peace (p.585)
Now let s talk about the ideology that the theory can be drawn from and let s see how the ideology and
the theory can be linked together to help prove that some sort of democratic peace can and does exist.

To his Coy Mistress and To the Virgins, To Make Much of Time
Carpe diem is a Latin term used in literature, the use of this term presses readers to seize the moment.
In the chosen poems, the authors mainly try to pursue women, by letting them know that they have
true physical beauty and should take advantage of their good looks while it lasts. The word carpe diem
impacts both poems, To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time by Robert Herrick, and To His Coy
Mistress by Andrew Marvell. In Herrick s poem, To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time, he describes
carpe diem by citing the shortness of life and by trying to persuade young women to marry and enjoy
their youth at its advantage before death. In the poem To His Coy Mistress , Marvell explains more
traits of carpe diem by persuading a certain woman in being his wife. To persuade her he used
examples of time and age fading her beauty and how it will leave her with nothing once they re gone.
Both poems compare to each other by persuading to seize moments before old age and beauty
disappears.
Herrick s To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time fits the meaning of carpe diem by encouraging the
beauty of youth and life itself. His calm and moralizing approach from the personal environment ...

I relate to Dr. Alan Grant the most in the story because he appears to be a very grounded character,

Poor families resented having their children sent so far away, and eventually the western states
complained about what they perceived to be the dumping of thousands of delinquent and needy
children each year. The economic shift from an agrarian society to an industrial society reduced the
need for child labor on farms and further doomed this movement. Brace s conviction that family life
was best for children and youth, however, continues to influence services for children to this day. The
first half of the twentieth century brought growing interest in the problem of juvenile delinquency.
Investigation done by Dr. William Healy s Juvenile Psychopathic Institute led to the realization that
the problem of delinquent children was not limited to the poorest classes. Further, delinquency was
increasingly viewed as resulting from numerous factors, with the most prevalent being the lack of
parental discipline resulting from the loss of one or both parents. Concurrently, it was becoming
increasingly clear that efforts to punish offending youth did not deter future criminal action and that
many of the youth who left institutions often returned. As a result, interest shifted to finding ways to
treat troubled youth, rather than merely punish them, and led to the creation of the juvenile court
system, which separated juvenile and adult offenders and focused on rehabilitation and cure. The first
juvenile court law was enacted in Illinois in 1899, and by 1919 all but

scientific foundation for philosophy, as well as a humanist approach to economics politics. It was this
foundation from which James Mill urged and advanced his eldest son s education from a very early
age. John Stuart studied Greek at age three and Latin at eight, and he was asked to recite everything he
had learned to his father every day. John Stuart also studied mathematics and science for his personal

From start to Finish, Siddhartha lived his life in search of one main facet; spiritual enlightenment.
While in the process of his quest for enlightenment Siddhartha encountered the four noble truths of
Buddhism. In the first part of the novel, Siddhartha is portrayed experiencing each of the noble truths.
In the first chapter we can clearly see how siddhartha experiences the first noble truth, the truth of
suffering. We start off with the author, Hesse portraying Siddhartha with a sort of ultimate experience
having a loving father caring for him and is excelling greatly ahead of his peers spiritual practices,
almost having a perfectly put together life. Yet,Siddhartha wanted something different, a change. A
detour from his father s past. He didn t want to be another sheep in a large herd .Set on his journey for
nirvana, Siddhartha felt that he was not progressing in his search for enlightenment as a young
Brahmin; to him the spirit was not content, the soul was not calm, the heart was not satisfied. At this
stage of the novel is where we are able to clearly connect the puzzle pieces and conclude that
Siddhartha s suffrage is the presence of dissatisfaction due to not yet reaching spiritual enlightenment.
When Siddhartha leaves and joins the Samanas we begin to understand the origin of where his
suffering is coming from; which is all seen as the second noble truth. In his search for enlightenment
Siddhartha hoped that by joining the samanas that he would be liberated from

21. Universal Design Is A Principle Of Learning Essay
Universal design is a principle of learning that can easily find its roots in the historical examples of
physical accessibility. Deriving from the concept that when a spatial environment is universally
designed, it is designed to be accessible to any and all people of all abilities. In todays world a spatial
environment, the example of universal design is all around us. In daily walks on university and college
campuses students with disabilities have likely used the curb cuts in sidewalks or the ramps that now
accompany the stairs that lead to many campus buildings. Today s society benefits from a universally
designed environment. Universal design is about removing barriers and creating balance. Universal
design incorporated in an online learning environment takes spatial elements that expands the learner s
environment beyond physical accessibility to make learning accessible for all. In short, the goal of
making learning accessible to all is to remove barriers, both obvious, and obscure barriers. Universal

23. The Effects of Media on Adolescent Girls Essay
Media has become a significant component within society. While media provides many pros, it
supplies various cons as well. One very prominent fault that the significance of media has is its visual
depiction of women. There is an abundance of media portraying women to have ideal bodies, and this
undoubtedly has a negative effect on adolescent girls. Two of the many effects of media on females
are depression and self esteem issues, as well as eating disorders. Unfortunately, body dissatisfaction
caused by media is becoming more and more common. In today s society, media is a part of everyone
s lives, whether people want it to be or not. One of the most openly disliked components of the media
is the thin, ideal, hour glass figure that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Depression is when an individual has feelings of hopelessness and has very little energy to accomplish
tasks; many people have tremendous trouble sustaining an interest in life. In today s culture, girls have
become more depressed in adolescence compared to boys (Stice and Bearman). One of the major
influences on why girls are frequently more depressed than boys, is that girls struggle to obtain the
perfect body in their own eyes. Findings show that, compared to teen boys, teen girls have higher
body shame. Fifty three percent of adolescent girls reported being dissatisfied with their body after the
study (Knauss). Low self esteem, combined with depression, can potentially be very dangerous for
young women.
Furthermore, media surrounds teenage girls in today s culture. It is impossible to escape the sight of
media. The media s constant idealistic beauty is ever present to a vast amount of self conscious girls.
This image of beauty causes girls to have low self esteem (Clay, Vignoles, and Dittmar). Media
defining this perfect body image causes many adolescent girls to feel dissatisfied with their bodies and
become depressed. Viewing ultra thin or average size models led to decreases in both body satisfaction
and self esteem in adolescent girls aged eleven to sixteen, with changes in self esteem fully mediated
by changes in body satisfaction (Clay, Vignoles, and Dittmar).

24. Human Body Art
The human body is a significant object in the art of all the periods of human life. Since the time when
people started to use tools and made first steps in the art they always tried to depict human body. The
human figure has been represented in various forms such as sculptures and paintings (Morphy, 2014).
Various civilizations, however, are different in their representation of human figures and the reasons of
the art representation are also different. To understand these motives only visual analysis is not enough
but learning the cultural and historical shreds of evidence behind these artworks is necessary. I chose
two artworks to analyze, Marble Statue of a Wounded Amazon and Hatshepsut Seated.

The strong steady position of the statue and traditional dresses has been styled to show the kingship
features of the statue. The human body has been stylized and not portrayed naturalistically. The
purpose of this statue is not to show the beauty of a human body but to express the power of a Pharaoh
of Egypt. In fact, from the style, one can easily tell that this is an Egyptian pharaoh without having to
go through the artwork. (David, A. (2010).
An analysis of two artwork Hatshepsut Seated and Marble Statute of a Wounded Amazon shows the
representation of human figure in different cultures and the reasons for their representation.
Hatshepsut Seated is an Egyptian sculpture, which was used to represent the image of kingship and
Egyptian Pharaohs and possibly show the immortality of pharaoh. Marble Statute of a Wounded

26. Complexity Theory And Leadership Theory
Complexity theory and Leadership
There are many theories when it comes to leadership. Many of these date back hundreds of years to
military styles of leadership. The 1990 s saw the emergence of a new theory in terms of leadership,
Complexity Theory, which has since developed further and has been implemented in some of the most
successful companies in the world.
What is complexity theory?
Computational modelling has become ever popular in industries that require prediction of outcomes,
by developing complex algorithms that attempt to predict the outcome of certain complex actions.
There are a variety of inputs that can drastically change the output of the model. A similar model can
be applied to human interaction, with an infinite number ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Complexity theory is the understanding of the processes by which positive innovation and change
occurs.
How does it vary from traditional leadership methods
Each organisation begins out of innovation, someone has an idea and that idea becomes the
organisation. This is the Entrepreneurial System, and is responsible for innovation and creativity
(Goldstein, et al., 2009). Once the organisation is functioning, the Administrative System begins to
take over, accounting for improvements in bureaucracy, efficiency and order. The trade off for
efficiency and order is to stifle the creative and innovative change that can lead to chaos (Hazy, 2006).
Traditional leadership styles dictate that when there is chaos, that order should be restored, and often
followers or employees search for order in times of chaos. However, in applying total order to chaos,
creativity and innovation are eliminated by application of a hierarchal authoritarian system (Goldstein,
et al., 2009).
Instead of oppressing creativity and innovation through order, complexity theory embraces small
amounts of chaos implementing minimal changes, encouraging followers to perform their duties in a
creative manner. It is important that the levels of chaos do not lead to followers being unable to
perform their duties; however, acceptable levels of chaos should be embraced, allowing freedom of
thought and interaction between followers (Van de Van, et al., 1999).

haunting and beautiful imagery to represent the results of environment destruction. Maya Lin won

Stereotypes are a hard thing to shake when growing up in an underfunded suburb like Malcolm
Moore. In the movie Dope, Malcolm, and his two friends Jim and Diggy get themselves into a
dangerous adventure. Malcolm s primary goal throughout the story is that he gets into Harvard. The
main subject of this movie is perception. The writer Rick Famoyiwa gives prime examples of the idea
that what people perceive to be true and what is true is a constant conflict. In this film, Famoyiwa
brings to attention the difference between perception and reality. One of these examples is when
Malcolm is continuously sneaking his drugs into his high school, past drug dogs and a beeping alarm
system. After passing through the alarm system many times, the officers assumed that the machine
broke. Also, after passing the drug dogs, the police simply ignored the situation due to whom the dogs
were barking at. These two events show that how people viewed Malcolm helped him succeed, he was
seen as a band geek and a good kid and because of this; there was no suspicion from the officers.
Overall, because his peers saw him as this good boy, he ended up getting away with quite a bit that
someone who had a reputation or viewed as differently would not have.
Next, Malcolm comes in a confrontation with a man who sells Designer bags while trying to get
money for the drugs he has sold online. During this, he must pass a test to get the money he needs for
Harvard. Malcolm must determine which bag is real

approached Bacon and told him how disappointed he was in him, which caused the Virginians to

perception and environment. Through research into multiple companies and case studies, a distorted
perception among large corporations shows a historic struggle to find a balance between profit and
sustainability. However, the potential long term effects of the lack of environmental courtesy cannot
be undone and therefore must be carefully engineered. Multi billion dollar automotive corporations
such as Hyundai and Toyota will be discussed and studied in depth to conclude the innovative changes
contributed in the automotive industry resulting in maximum efficiency in lean and green production.
Additionally, while studying these companies, the overall question of whether intentional sustainable
practices provide increased customer satisfaction and comfort is answered through a survey given to

In Berger and Radhakrishnan s books the multitude of religious experience one can encounter is
defined and explained through the hardships and cultural multiplicities of views that many Hindus go
through to find absolute transcendence with God, gain a higher level of religious consciousness and
how externalization, objectivities, and internalization are used as forms in society to introduce and
establish religious construction. The inconsistency of religious isolation is in the very manner of
dehumanizing a large part of the social and cultural world that we live in today because of the roots in

One point that I have reached agreement with in Berger s, The Sacred Canopy: Elements of a
Sociological Theory of Religion, is how it is important for us to create a sacred reality for ourselves
and how religion, like it can alienate people, it can also de alienate people and drive them towards
more knowledge and understanding about the world around them that allows for a creation of better
choices. Berger talks about the human instinct and how we spend so little time in the womb that we
never get to truly develop this instinct to help us survive in the world. He talks about this instinct not
being prevalent in our lives to be the main cause as to why man created religion. I believe Berger s
explanation of externalization as true because in our everyday lives we are always looking for ways to
mold and shape our environment as we see fit for ourselves and in this process we go through what
Berger describes as objectivating. We as human beings learn from teachers about what we should do
to survive and how we repeat these actions over and over again in our everyday lives through the

If the therapist has access to an electronic medical record, noting transdiaphragmatic pressure from a
pulmonologists evaluation is the best indicator of diaphragmatic strength. This is measured as the
difference between intraabdominal pressure and intrathoracic pressure. Documenting diaphragmatic
weakness as a diagnosis should be considered when evaluating breathless patients. 44 Observation
will be the next tool to help identify those patients with dysfunctional breathing as a result of a poor
ZOA. Other authors recommend assessment in supine with a comparison made between sitting and
supine. Issues will be more pronounced in supine. A reduction in vital capacity (perceived
breathlessness) or reports of orthopnea is another indicator of DD. McCool2 Mier Jedrzejowicz et al
found that patients with the most severe orthopnea had the weakest diaphragms.44 In these patients,
the physical therapist should also look for the abdominal paradox. In this clinical sign the weakened

result of the change in the orientation of the diaphragm, the loss of the ZOA and its resultant
