American Revolution Loyalists
Only a tiny fraction of the books written on the American Revolution are devoted to the loyalists the
residents of the 13 colonies who chose to leave their homes rather than become citizens of the new
republic. Such a nation bound approach to the writing of American history implies that the lives of
those who left were not significant. Yet they were, and Maya Jasanoff, who teaches history at Harvard,
has provided a richly informative account of those who made the choice to embrace imperial Britain.
As earlier historians of the Revolution have pointed out, the loyalists tended to have strong
connections to the imperial administration, belong to the Anglican Church and possess close business
or family ties to Britain. But not all who left fitted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Near the end of the Paris peace negotiations that ended the war, a small but important amendment was
added to the resulting treaty that prohibited the British from carrying away any Negroes, or other
property. When he became aware of this proviso, Sir Guy Carleton, the commander of British forces
in North America, acted. Charged with the task of evacuating 20,000 troops and 35,000 loyalists from
New York, he made securing the freedom of the black loyalists a priority. He expedited the provision
of documents establishing their freedom and hurried them onto a fleet of ships headed for Nova
Scotia. The speed of this sequence of events infuriated George Washington. But Carleton responded
that it was a matter of honor. The Negroes in question, he explained, I found free when I arrived in
New York, I had therefore no right . . . to prevent their going to any part of the world they thought
proper. Earlier, when Lord Dunmore, the colonial governor of Virginia, promised freedom to
bondsmen who joined the British forces, as many as 20,000 including slaves belonging to Washington,
Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry made the risky decision to escape. Jasanoff refers to this as an
emancipation, though she might better have described it as a slave revolt, larger than any the Americas
had yet to

Critique of Michael Jordan and The New Global Capitalism written by Walter LaFeber
Michael Jordan is more than just an athlete. He is a celebrity, a brand, and the face of many thriving
companies. Everyone in the world, sports fan or not, knows Michael Jordan. If they don t know what
he does or who he is, they have heard of the name, or can relate him to something. Michael Jordan
was lucky enough to have been offered lucrative opportunities early in his career which led to the
capitalization on Jordan merchandise. LaFeber highlights the opportunity Jordan had with Nike, and
how they used not only Jordan himself, but also the sport to Americanize other cultures. LaFeber
explores how fans of Jordan all over the world as well as the labor markets that Nike used to extract

Jordan was thought to be one of the most recognizable successful Americans; he was even ranked
alongside a communist revolution leader by Chinese schoolchildren as one of the greatest figures in
American history, even recognizable to natives of Lhasa, Tibet, and students at Beijing University and
of course hometown fans from Chicago. Michael Jordan is described to be personified as an
imaginative individual with skills that Americans dream of displaying in a society that adores graceful
and successful individualism, while also having a competitive spirit and the discipline that Americans
like to think drove their nation to the peak of world power. These skills Jordan exemplified, LaFeber
writes, quickly translated into money and power. Jordan was earring $30 million a year for playing
with the Bulls, as well as twice that amount from outside endorsements and personal businesses.
Jordan played the role of a hero, on top of top notch athlete, and businessman. He was becoming a

Failures Of Indira Gandhi
Week Ten: This weeks analysis on Indira Gandhi helped me unpack her successes and failures. Some
of the major failures that my group talked about was the forced sterilization, state of emergency,
religious divide, censorship and corruption. The mass forced sterilization was ultimate failure in my
eyes and as I talked about prior a major human rights violation. Interestingly, Indira Gandhi had no
gender policy during her reign. One would think that a women politician would want to address so
many of the problems that plague women on a daily basis. If I was a women in India during the time
where Indira Gandhi came to power, I would have been devastated that she was not interested in
improving women s rights. Indira also reinforced the religious divide within India, especially for the
Sikhs. She ended up exacerbating tensions in the region, which ultimately lead to her demise.
While she did have a lot of failures, this weeks class helped bring to light some of her successes as
well. Prior to this class I only really thought of her failures and even during class my group had a hard
time coming up with anything. I think her lack of credentials and her short sidedness made her ill
prepared to be a ruler. Throughout this class I began to admire Nehru and his leadership of India;
however, with Indira I felt myself being angry and disappointed with her ruling style.
Rajiv Gandhi s rise to power was even more abrupt than his mothers. He was even less qualified than

Interviewer: Hello Macbeth. Thank you for attending this interview. Would you mind briefing me your
whole story?
Macbeth: Yes, of course but it s rather intricate.
Interviewer: Why do you think your story is intricate?
Macbeth: My story is rather unpredictable one and it is all due to my hasty decisions. I basically killed
the King of Scotland to become the King and I was defeated in a battle and lost my power as king! I
misused my power as a king and I suffered.
Interviewer: That was quite a story. There s a saying, with great power, comes great responsibility. But
you becoming King, don t you think you abused your power? Since the start?

Macbeth: From the story it is quite evident how I went from being a brave and courageous man to
becoming a lowly person who has to kill someone to attain power. This just showed that power
corrupts ambition. My nature degraded and this I resorted to killing and/or murdering others families
who were in my way of becoming the king. My degrading nature also affected my ambition, before I
viewed attaining the power of becoming the King as an honor but due to my wife s persuasion, I rather
viewed it as a challenge and made sure that I acquired it. This ended up having a negative impact on
all the other characters in the story. From the guards to the little children, no one was spared. Many
lost their families, children lost their fathers and vice versa. I became so caught up with the power of
becoming the King that I even lost my wife. Even she had become corrupt with power but guilt caught
up to her earlier than me and she killed herself. It was such a shame!

would you do? How would your resulting new actions have a different impact on what will

Thomas Jefferson s Flaws
It was a day in 1801, the day when Thomas Jefferson became the third president of the United States,
something no one expected. This day solidified the first peaceful transfer of power from one political
party to another. The boy from Virginia, born on April 13, 1743, carried on to become one of the most
impactful leaders in the United States. The politician was vice president under John Adams from 1797
to 1801. In addition, Jefferson had the honor to be the first Secretary of State of the United States from
1789 to 1793. This Founding Father was just getting started in showing his nation what he could
accomplish. In his presidency of two terms, Jefferson accomplished many things that turned out great
for the nation. His actions, however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

people tremendously, corrupting the Southern economy. Although Jefferson is admired by his many

Karen Thompson Walker
Karen Thompson Walker, an aspiring fiction writer and novelist, delivered an imaginative Ted Talk
titled What Fear Can Teach Us. She explored the connection between fear and imagination through
storytelling. In this critique I will analyze Walker s content, delivery, and conclusion of her speech.
Karen Thompson Walker based the idea of her story on comparing fear and storytelling. She wanted to
reach out to adults on how we feel about fear and how we can perceive fear to be an amazing feeling.
Walker opened her speech with an effective introduction. She opened her speech her speech telling a
true story that later inspired parts of the novel Moby Dick. As she continued, I found it hard to single
out the main points of her speech. Walker later ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She made it easy to recognize that she was coming to the end of her speech by lowering the volume of
her voice . She restated her points at the end of the speech referencing back to her story. Walker made
her main points more prominent toward the end of her speech than when she stated them at the
beginning. The main point of Walker s speech was that we should look at our fears as books then we
could be our own authors. After I listened to her her conclusion I felt that it made her point and her
conclusion more precise. In conclusion, I think that Karen Thompson Walker did a great job with her
speech. She did well with the content, delivery, and conclusion of her speech. She did have some areas
that I would recommend slight improvement. Karen opened her speech with a short story that grabbed
her audience s attention from the beginning to the end. She made me want to listen a wonder what
would happen next. I think that she added a bit more excitement to her voice and came from behind
the podium when ending her speech. Given these points even though Karen Thompson Walker could
use some improvement, but we all need improvement to become better public

Profile of a Hate Crime Offender Essay
Profile of a Hate Crime Offender
Sterilized from emotion, hate crime, also called bias crime, is those offenses motivated in part or
singularly by personal prejudice against other because of a diversity race, sexual orientation, religion,
ethnicity/national origin, or disability. Hate crimes are committed out of anger, ignorance, and lack of
knowledge of another s ideas and beliefs. There are many causes for an individual to commit a hate
crime. Also, many different profiles fit the description of a hate crime offender. There are ways to
prevent and control hate crimes, but they will always be present in society as long as every person has
the right to express his or her opinion.

Hate crimes are also known by other names. The most commonly employed of such terms is bias
crime, perhaps because it accurately emphasizes that such offenses often arise out of prejudice toward
another group of individuals. In addition, Howard Ehrlich (1990), director of the Prejudice Institute at
Townson State University has coined the term ethno violence to include acts that do not arise to the
legal standard of a crime, but contain an element of prejudice. These hate incidents may, for example,
include the use of ethnic slurs or the exclusion of members of targeted groups from social activities at
the workplace.
From a psychological perspective, prejudice refers to a negative attitude toward individuals based on
their perceived group membership for example, their race, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.
Though as a form of discriminatory behavior, hate crimes often have an attitudinal dimension, the
relationship between prejudice and criminal behavior tends to be complex. There is reason to believe
that certain hate offenses result from some personal bias or hatred. In the extreme case, a hatemonger
may join an organized group in order to devote his life to destroying a group of people he considers
inferior.
At times, certain prejudices become narrowly targeted. Because behavioral scientists have

Wilsons Disease
Introduction
Wilson s disease is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder, where copper is unable to be absorbed
properly in the body and accumulates in tissue. This condition is known to have neurological and
psychiatric symptoms, due to lesions associated with copper build up in the central nervous system,
along with being associated with liver disease. It is related to a malfunction in the Wilson disease
protein gene on the 13th chromosome; a copper transporting P type ATPase also known as ATP7B
protein. I recently discovered that this disease runs in my family; both my mother and father are
carriers, and unfortunately my sister is affected by Wilson s Disease. I find this interesting because the

can accompany neurological deficits, often in the absence of detectable cortical association or hepatic

On the Pulse of Morning, by Maya Angelou Essay
Hillary R. Clinton once said that There cannot be true democracy unless Women s voices are heard
(conference in Vienna, Austria 1997). That very brilliant quote relates to a very strong woman by the
name of Maya Angelou. Angelou is America s most visible black female autobiographer and speakers
(scholar Joanne M. Braxton). She is known for her speeches, poems, and books, but what stood out to
me the most was her 1993 inauguration speech when Bill Clinton was sworn into the White House.

Transcultural Literature And Contemporary World Literature
Arianna Dagnino in her essay Transcultural Literature and Contemporary World Literature points out
that with the denationalizing wave of globalization, even national literatures are under pressure to find
new arrangements of form and content to adapt to a changed cultural and social paradigm. In other
words, a mutation is under way within the global acumen of letters where new notions of belonging,
as well as definitions of selfhood and identity are externalized through new creative artistic and
literary processes. Within this emerging social, cultural, and literary scenario, scholars feel the urge to
identify new relevant literary paradigms, especially when dealing with the so called New Literatures
in English represented by the works of, say, Zadie Smith, Hanif Kureishi, Kamila Shamsie, Michael
Ondaatje, or Joy Nozomi Kogawa or recently through Anime with its heavy borrowing of motifs from
western canonised literature and its gradual popularity as an emerging form of literary creativity.
According to Merriam Webster dictionary, anime is a style of animation originating in Japan that is
characterized by stark colorful graphics depicting vibrant characters in action filled plots often with
fantastic or futuristic themes. While Oxford Dictionary dictates anime as A style of Japanese film and

The paragraphs are key to understanding not only how Washington saw reconfigurations of signifying
systems, but also understanding what was at stake in such reconfigurations. Here the possessive s is
appropriated and reconfigured to indicate self possession (Ashton). Washington used improper
grammar on purpose to signify self possession; Washington s form of self possession was a feeling of
being in control. Washington wanted to inform readers that even though you may start off having
nothing you could have a lot if you apply yourself. Up from Slavery is a compelling literary event
because Washington successfully weds his rags to riches story with narratives of racial conciliations
and uplift. The reader comes to understand that humility and industry provide entry to the American
power elite not the purpose of individual gratifications but for the improvement of an entire race and
eventually the entire nation (Keller). Washington stated in other unpublished books what he wanted to

Frost At Midnight Analysis
In a conversation poem titled Frost at Midnight, romantic poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge creates a
persona of himself who spends the duration of the poem having a one sided conversation with his
newly born baby. The narrator laments his own childhood, but finds solace in knowing that his baby
has potential for a better life than he, since the baby will have a nature centered upbringing. The
narrator contrasts constricted and expansive imagery, enumerated and enjambed sentences, and
alienated and familiar diction to underline the differences between his own childhood education,
which was spent studying books, and the childhood education he hopes his baby will have. The
narrator suggests that nature will offer his baby a childhood education superior to his own because
nature will teach the baby to be one with the world, allowing him to feel peace and serenity no matter
the circumstances. In this poem, the narrator opens up with a serene scene of a winter night or so it
seems. Although the narrator describes an externally cozy, peaceful scene, he unveils a discordant
heart, as suggested by the restless tone he uses. During this silent night, the narrator watches a piece of
soot flicker over the fire: Only that film, which fluttered on the grate, / Still flutters there, the sole
unquiet thing. Methinks, its motion in this hush of nature / Gives it dim sympathies with me who
lives, / Making it a companionable form (15 19). In other words, the narrator associates himself with

Commonly, these temples were built to worship and honor deities, and so they must be built pristine.
Although the Romans sometimes cut corners when it came to materials in order to remain economic,
they definitely didn t cut any when it came to scale and appearance. Many early civilizations recycled
styles and materials from previous civilizations and monuments, the Romans in particular, and created

ceilings and classical columns. The main corridor floor was of marble; the other hall floors were of
quarter sawed oak; and the classroom floors were made of hard maple. Most of the toilet and shower
rooms were finished in tile, marble and porcelain. Noticeably, marble was used throughout the
building, definitely referencing classical architecture since marble was a very expensive material that
was commonly used in the construction and decor of Roman and Greek Temples. Approaching the
building from the East, one is immediately struck by an obvious air of superiority and timeless
influence. An admirer from below is almost dwarfed by the sheer strength it emits. The school stands
above a tiered seating stadium that steeps sharply towards the East entrance leaving your central focus
on the building that looms proud over the stadium. Trost must have derived the style of the half circle
stadium from theatres such as the one built in Epidaurus Greece by Polykletos the younger in 350 BC.
The function of the tiered seating in the Greek theater was to make sure that even the softest sounds
from the performance could reach the people seated at the very far top

Role Of Prostitution In Ancient Rome
Prostitution is the practice of selling one s body or sexual favors in return for money. This is often
regarded as the oldest profession of the world with evidence dating back to Ancient Babylon and
Sumer. With each succeeding major civilization, prostitution became more developed, refined, and
subjected to regulation; Ancient Rome being no exception. Prostitution is often an undiscussed section
of society when discussing past cultures. It is that very reason I chose to write on this subject as
practiced in Rome. In Ancient Rome, a society of morality and pride, it is ironic that what is typically
seen as a degrading practice, was practiced, widely tolerated, and regulated by the state. Prostitution,
while not an integral part of Roman society, helps offer insight into not only the Roman economy, but
also entertainment and private life. Through research and explanation I intend to elaborate on the
organization of prostitution, legal recognition given to prostitutes, what Roman brothels were like, sex
slavery in a Roman context, and the connection between prostitution and religion. ... Show more

Both genders served as prostitutes in Ancient Rome, but the majority of evidence suggests that female
prostitutes to male clients was more common. The prostitutes worked either on their own using rented
rooms for their practice, for a madame, or lena, or work out of brothels for a pimp, leno. The working
arrangements of the prostitutes, as suggested by Dillon and Garland, were often created, at least by
free women, out of desperateness due to financial need. The women who worked for a lena or
independently because of this desperation are stipulated by McGinn to have been considered women
of higher repute, than those who were born into sex slavery or forced into it. Those who worked out of
a brothel or where pimped by a leno are considered to have been slaves or former

Advertisement Analysis Of An Advertisement
There are many things that go in to make an advertisement successful for the audience. In 2014, a
photography blogger, Johnny Baker, posted a set of four photos stating that smoking dulls your senses.
The ad is successful because of the use of how simple and plain the photos are but also explaining the
true facts and how dangerous and expensive smoking is. To understand the purpose of this print
advertisement, you must understand why Baker created these. He states, I created still life scenes that
represented certain facts about smoking, these facts were chosen as they would be off putting to new
smokers and people that smoke already. (baker)I feel the ad appeals more towards women than men
but also relates a little to everyone because it talks about the effects that smoking has during a
pregnancy and how smoking can cause your skin to wrinkle and age faster. This is important because
pregnancy is wanted for most women and smoking can cause serious affect to fertility. Also, men do
not care as much about wrinkles like women. All four of the photos are items, but what makes the
message so powerful is Baker creates them with cardboard. He says he did this to make it eye catching
and to replicate the color of the addictiveness, which is nicotine. The first picture to appear, appeals to
everyone because everybody needs food to survive. It shows a drink, a hamburger and some fries, but
all made from cardboard. The caption explains that smoking dulls your

Chronic Pneumonia Research Paper
Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi. There are many
subcategories for pneumonia but in this paper I will be talking about chronic pneumonia. Everyone
shows symptoms of pneumonia differently. The most common symptoms include coughing, fever, and
shortness of breath. Less common include chest pain, headache, Fusion, or fatigue. Chronic
pneumonias are usually caused by slow growing organisms such as fungi or microorganisms. Some
cases of chronic pneumonia can t be diagnosed even by biopsies of lung tissue. There are four main
causes of chronic pneumonia. Histoplasmosis is a fungus commonly found in soil and is associated
with bird droppings. It cannot be passed person to person and can cause both acute ... Show more

When an individual has pneumonia, chronic or acute, their lungs fill with fluid. This can be localized
or spread out. The alveoli get inflamed when they fill with fluid and cause an itching sensation in the
lungs. That itching causes most people to cough, that is the body s natural way to get rid of buildup in
the lungs. Cough suppressants will stop this natural reaction and usually make that individuals
pneumonia last longer. On the other hand, too much coughing will results in scarring on the lungs that
will make the individual more likely to get chronic pneumonia even if they only had acute pneumonia
to begin with. The alveolar wall is formed with simple squamous epithelial cells known as alveolar
cells. Capillaries surround these sacks and allow the exchange of gases. When an individual has

silent accommodation by the community around them. While gay men didn t necessarily come out of
any closet, neither did those around him ridicule, shame or shun him because of his desires. As
Howard writes; ...silence not only deflected the sometimes harmful repercussions of disclosure, it

contemplation as Chuck is molested by an older male driver on a rainy afternoon. Chuck wonders if

Definition of Project: During the implementation phase of changing our values at Seagram, we have
identified five challenges that need attention. In order to maintain progress with in the culture change
and help generate a larger financial gain in the future, we must solve the challenges that we currently
face. We have an understanding of how important changing the values of our organization since
Moore (2014) explains: Companies are introducing and/or paying more attention to corporate values
since, they will create an atmosphere that will help design new products and services that are social,
environmental friendly while maintaining a financial return. Additionally, corporate values lead to
better resources and partners will also improve productivity and capabilities (skills, knowledge,
productivity) of suppliers. Furthermore, if an organization possesses a strong corporate values system
it will generate local clusters to strengthen, capture economic, and social benefits at the community
level. Finally, corporations are paying more attention to corporate values since they can deploy
corporate assets to achieve scale and spur investments (p. 05). Therefore, it is vital that Seagram
attacks any and all shortcomings that have been identified and future shortcomings in an efficient and

Miracles and Christianity Essays
Miracles and Christianity
In society today, the word miracle is commonly used to describe unexpected and surprising events: it
was a miracle that I passed the exam, however, when it is used in a religious sense, it generally has the
extra meaning of being an act of god . In the Bible, one can find many examples of miracles, but the
central miraculous event is the claim that Jesus rose from the dead after his crucifixion, this was easier
to accept as the truth in the past, but now modern science and medical advances prove that dead
people do not rise again, they can be resuscitated at the point of near death, but do not come back to
life after hours of death. Therefore, can people believe in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Atheists have the same way of thinking except that instead of looking for what had not been explained
(to find a place for God) they look for what had been explained (to try and push out God). Professor
Charles Coulson was such a thinker:
When we come to the scientifically
unknown, our correct policy is not to
rejoice because we have found God; it
is to become better Scientists.
The most significant rebuff to belief in miracles came from David Hume. Hume dedicated much of his
work to the understanding of miracles, Hume believed, and showed that Miracles were, relatively a
logical impossibility. Hume also said that because miracles are scientifically impossible, then it is
impossible to believe anyone who claims to have witnessed such an extraordinary event, he then made
an additional four points.
1) In all History there are not a sufficient number of people who have witnessed a miracle who have
good sense, education and learning to confidently say that these so called miracles were not delusions
within themselves. In other words people who believe in miracles are superstitious not scientific.
2) People believe in Miracles because they want to believe in Miracles.
3) Belief in miracles results from ignorance about how the world actually works.
4) All Gods cannot be the true God therefore

Kyle Sutton
Engaging Reformation and Modern Christianity CH503 XD
December 16, 2011
In the preface, Dr. Philip Jenkins clearly states his thesis for The Next Christendom, Far from being an
export of the capitalist West, a vestige of Euro American imperialism, Christianity is now rooted in the
Third World, and the religion s future lies in the global South .[1] The distinctions of global North and
global South describe the groupings of Europe, North American, and Japan (global North) and Asia,
Africa, and Latin America (global South). [2] This ten chapter book can be divided into two major
sections. In the first five chapters, Jenkins traces the historical ... Show more content on

This Southern church is enthusiastic, spontaneous, fundamentalist, and supernatural oriented. Several
other reasons press the shift to the South. Among these, first, Western nations have largely developed
an egregious attachment to tolerance and materialism. Second, simple population growth is slower in
the West than developing nations. This does not imply that other major religions are not growing in
the South also, the point is: Christianity is growing at an incredible rate in the Southern hemisphere
and in China and impacts the global look of Christianity.[9] If such trends continue, Jenkins claims
Christianity will inevitably become increasingly Southern in style, culture, philosophy, and academics.
So the questions remain: what will Christianity look like when it is no longer culturally European or
Western? Will it still be Christianity in its core? As the church population explodes in developing
nations and becomes more indigenous to those cultures, will there be a conflict of orthodoxy and
heresy like in the early church? Will the church become increasingly poor, libertarian, or spiritual?
[10] In the second half of the book, Jenkins responds to these questions. In Chapter eight, Jenkins
explores the turbulent possibility for horrific violence, war and terrorism along religious lines that
might accompany the rise of Southern Christianity which is already happening and about which the
western public is largely uninformed. Christian growth

Welcome to the age of an agricultural revolution as everyday biotechnology continues to bring

energy for our production and nutrients for our protection. Without this fundamental element, life

others for survival. Humans existence is attributed only to the million years of evolution our food

With only a 20 year history, genetic engineering is only a young science with much uncertainly
relativity compared to other fields. Much of the elements bioengineering studies and experiments, the
DNA genome and sequence, are still unknown to the scientific community. Changes in genes greatly
transform the condition, structure, and essence of an organism, giving us an entirely different and
unnatural creation. Even when the physical effects are barely noticeable or deemed safe and ethical,
these modified creations effects on the environment are impossible to predict and will only emerge
when the damage done becomes evident to the human population. Though a large unknown looms
over modifying genes, bioengineering industries insist upon dismissing the scare over genetic foods
with the vast potential miracle foods can benefit upon human society.
Most of the promises made by these corporations are promises of luxury, not necessity, and carry an
inherently and dangerous risk. As science continues to understand further the basic element of life,
DNA, the danger involved genetically modifying organisms becomes apparent. The beneficial
potential genetic engineering brings are attractive, but paradoxically it also brings disastrous potential
at a greater degree. The qualities brought forth by these GM foods are not necessary for our survival
and only brings forth dangerous consequences to our health, environment, and economy. In order to

I Was Only 19 Analysis
I was only nineteen poem analysis
Society is gradually becoming desensitized to the horror through the constant exposure of dreadful
crimes and conflict around the world in the media. War poetry has the power and ability to provoke
deep, hidden emotions from readers and listeners. It allows them to acknowledge a deeper
understanding and makes them more conscious of the tragedy and futility of war. However, modern
war poetry paints vivid images of the experiences in wars and gives better insight into the ethics of
war. The audience becomes more aware of the ethical issues associated with the Vietnam War through
powerful imagery and poetic devices.
I was only nineteen written by John Schumann helps readers to visualize the appalling conditions and

of sending young men to the Vietnam War and captures and heightens the listeners emotions and

Health Care At The United States Essay
Imagine being the single parent of two children avoiding going to the doctor, despite your constant
cough and horrendous headache, due of the fear of going into life ruining debt. This is a problem
numerous people in the United States face as spending on health care increased to $3.2 trillion in 2015
which is about $9,980 per individual, (Vital Signs: Rise in National Health Expenditures Slows) which
is considerably high in comparison to the United Kingdom s $148.34 billion or $2,292 per person
(Department of Health s Settlement at the Spending Review 2015). The United States spends
comparably more than most other first world countries when it comes to health care and this is a
problem for its citizens who have come into an issue of being unable to afford the care they need to
live. Countless Americans are aware of the fact that the cost of health is high, but not as many are
informed as to why it costs so much or how to make it more affordable. Instead, they look at health
care as an incurable illness and choose to offer up the explanation that the better quality of American
hospitals and services or the sizable population of people to care for are to blame for the high cost,
neither of which we have the power to change. However, the reasons for health care costs being
astronomical in the United States are the improper use of medical services, extra administrative costs,
and the high costs of the services and equipment themselves, which are causes that can be remedied.

My First Time
A couple of years ago, I awakened thinking that day would be like any other, but it wasn t. That was a
day that I will never forget. It was the day my friend came to my house crying to me, lip busted and
eye blacked. My initial reaction was shooting up in rage. I was speculating who I would have to seek
revenge on. She told me who did this to her. I had to calm myself back down, knowing the results
would be the same. The assailant was her boyfriend and father of her soon to be born son. This was
not the first time he had put his hands on her, even though this was the first time it was this severe. I
asked her what she desired to do knowing that my previous attempts at trying to help her were
unsuccessful. I could not figure for the life of me why she would continue to go back to him. She said
she continued to stay with him because they had a child on the way. Other motives for individuals
staying in abusive relationships are they don t know any better, and they don t want to feel like a
failure. When people think of birthing a child they think of togetherness. Usually, people want to be a
happy family. A child can be thought of like a fresh start for various people. There are not many
people who want to raise a child alone, so they may remain in a situation that may not be best for
them. Being a single parent was a hard pill for my McDowell 2 friend to swallow. My comrade

Later, when Mikage recounts the time Eriko shared with her the importance of a particular pineapple

Prophets And The Old Testament
The last seventeen books of the Old Testament are books of prophecy. Five of these books are known
as the major prophets while the other twelve books are known as the minor prophets. The prophets in
the Old Testament are very important. The prophets spoke for God and were called by the Lord to do
five specific things (Hindson Yates, 2012 p. 287). They were to tell the people to turn back to the
Lord, remind people to conform to the Law, they were also to rebuild the nation and create a spiritual
revival in the people as well as a regeneration in spiritual birth (Hindson, 2010, p. 123 124). Prophets
were also given a very unique talent that they used for God. One of the most unique features of the
true Old Testament prophets was their ability to predict (Hindson Yates, p. 289). Biblical prophets
speak to future events as though they had already occurred (Hindson Yates, p. 289). Though prophets
are known for their ability to foresee the future, they also address issues that the Israelites were facing.
The prophets spoke on many issues such as idolatry, social injustice, and religious ritualism. Frederick
E. Greenspahn addressed the prophets input on idolatry. Israelite prophets seem particularly concerned
with this problem: their land is full of idols... idols of silver and gold which they made in order to
prostrate [to them], says Isaiah (Greenspahn, 2004). Isaiah was not the only prophet who ran into the
problem of idolatry, Hosea describes the Northern

Why Are Carbohydrates Important In Living Organisms

Extra Credit The nucleic acid is needed in the body to keep our dna. Nucleic acid is a macromolecule
that stores and communicate genetic energy. There are six major nucleotides and it is made of carbon
nitrate, oxygen, phosphorus, and hydrogen. In living organisms there are two types of nucleic acids
called deoxyribonucleic acid and ribonucleic acid. DNA and RNA in the nucleic acids bonds into the
phosphate of another nucleotide. ATP stores energy in a storehouse and it could only be used by cells
in a variety of reactions. ATP releases energy when the second and the third phosphate group is
broken. Triphosphate is a nucleotide with three phosphate group. Nucleotides are smaller repeating

Banquet at Dunsinane
In Macbeth the scene of the banquet at Dunsinane shows the guilt of Macbeth, reveals to us the extent
of his madness and marks the suspicion of the Scottish lords. Macbeth shows the audience the extent
of his insanity, rouses suspicion from the Scottish lords and contributes to the overarching theme of
guilt. Macbeth s constant shouting at the apparition shows how far gone he is. It marks his lack of self

Comparing Disney And Disney s The Frog Prince And The Frog...
The Frog Prince vs. The Princess and The Frog Disney s The Princess and The Frog is based on the
original story The Frog Prince written by the Grimm brothers in 1812. There have been many books

is a common difference between the original and newer versions of the story, usually modern versions

and The Frog and the original The Frog Prince are the same story, they have notable differences and
very few similarities; the setting, her status, the story line, and the moral. The Frog Prince begins
telling how the princess very often spent her spare time at a well near her castle where she would play

you at table, and eat from your plate, and drink from your cup, and sleep in your little bed if you
would promise all this, then would I dive below the water and fetch you your golden ball again.

In order to sound convincing, the first stage of our research we would like to devote to Lewis Carroll s
achievements as a gifted writer and his contribution to the world literature. It could be easily traced
that his young years were happy. Lewis Carroll was born Charles Lutwidge Dodgson on January 27,
1832. Dodgson was the eldest son and third child in a family of seven girls and four boys born to
Frances Jane Lutwidge, the wife of the Reverend Charles Dodgson. His father was perpetual curate
from 1827 until 1843, when he became rector of Croft in Yorkshire a post he held until his death. As it
has been already mentioned, Carroll had a happy childhood. His mother was patient and gentle, and
his father tutored all of his children and raised them to be good people. The family lived in an isolated
country village and had few friends outside the family but found little difficulty in entertaining
themselves. Charles showed a great aptitude for inventing games to amuse them. He wrote a series of
family magazines throughout his childhood, containing poetry, drawing, and prose. In 1846 1849
Dodgson attended Rugby School, from which he graduated to Christ Church College, Oxford. In 1854
he was awarded a degree in mathematics, and the following year he began work as a Lecturer at Christ
Church in that subject and after taking holy orders, including the commitment not to marry,

Symbolism in Greasy Lake
Greasy Lake
Greasy Lake by Tom Coraghessan Boyle, is the story of a group of adolescents, searching for the one
situation that will proclaim them as bad boys and how their minds change. As the story begins, the
narrator gives the impression that he feels he and the others boys should have taken notice of some
obvious clues about themselves. These clues would have led them to the conclusion that they were far
from the bad guys they wished to be. However, the oblivious teenagers ignore these obvious signs and
continue in search of their goal.
In this story, Boyle uses many symbols to create the theme. The individual vehicles are each symbols
in the portion of the story that they appear. For example, early in the story, the narrator ... Show more

By taking the words to their dictionary definition, they mean, slimy and a place to cleanse. It is a place
of maturing and growth. Greasy Lake is an excellent story about the transformation of the mind and
spirit through encounters of the body. Greasy Lake also encompasses the old saying, be careful what
you wish for, you just might get it.

How Tuition Fees Deter The Attendance Essay
Increased enrollment and a decreased fiscal focus by governments on post secondary education has
led to the ongoing inflation of tuition rates in Canada. By comparing countries with exorbitantly high
tuition rates and countries with free education, the efficacy of the Canadian system can be studied.
This paper will explore how tuition fees deter the attendance to university by low income and
international students, and address the need to restructure our economically outdated post secondary
system.
Post secondary education is highly valued in Canada. Statistics Canada (2016) recorded that 64.1% of
Canadians between the ages of 25 to 64 possess some form of post secondary education, a percentage
that has been steadily increasing throughout the years. However, this influx in enrollment for higher
education has greatly affected the way in which public institutions are funded. Historically, Canadian
colleges have been funded largely through federal and provincial government grants, yet following the
recession in the 1970s, funding was seriously impacted as the government was forced to focus their
fiscal funding in higher priority areas (Jones, 2014). In addition, health and education were grouped
together in federal allowances to the provincial government in 1995, resulting in more than 4.5 billion
dollars between 1995 and 1997 (Fisher, et al, 2006). This forced provincial governments to reevaluate
and reform their systems, with many provinces choosing to decrease funding to

Jewish Population of Victorian England Essay
The Jewish Population of Victorian England
HISTORY
The Jews had their roots in Eastern Europe but were also scattered in western European countries such
as England. The Jewish population has been historically scapegoated since the time of the medieval
Church. Stereotypes have been formed of the people practicing this religion for hundreds of years in
England and elsewhere on the Continent. The timeline shows the progression of the population in
England and the strides they have made over a century.

Another stereotype labels the Jews as always being the middle man in shady business (86). Even in
novels of the time period, Jews were being persecuted due to their religion and their disreputable
dealings with money. A prominent author Dickens most notably renderstwo Jewish characters who are
as different as they are alike. They are seen as servile and possess exaggerated characteristics of one
practicing the Jewish religion.
WHY MONEY LENDERS?
The Jewish man has been portrayed as the money lender for hundreds of years. This stereotype dates
back to the Middle Ages and is related to the old church. During the middle ages, the medieval Church
regulated guilds and dominant positions in guilds belonged to Christians. Since the Jewish community
was not tolerated, they had to change their trade. The Church allowed the Jews to be money lenders
but not other professions where they may be competition for Christians. Being a money lender was an
ideal job for the Jewish man because if he was persecuted in his community, he could leave and find
employment elsewhere. Money lending did not require one to be rooted in one area.

Love s Path- Personal Narrative Essay
Love s Path Personal Narrative
They say it is better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all. Those words are not
comforting to me. But, I love you Deborah, he says as we sit on the couch in my basement, his voice
shaky, and uncertain. He looks into my eyes as if pleading, no, begging for forgiveness. I don t
recognize these eyes that once provided me with happiness, security, and comfort. These eyes used to
reassure me that indeed he did used to love me. It hurts to look into them; I turn away.
His face was just a blur, as tears collected, clouded my eyes and trailed down my cheeks until I could
taste them. My mind has conflicting thoughts. Forgive him. Don t forgive him. Say I love you. Don t

We had been going out for nine months and five days (not that I had been counting). It doesn t seem
long, but it felt like an eternity. I had never been so happy. The day he kissed the other girl, he threw
that all away. Thinking of everything that he told me, he said he would never leave or deceive me. Our
love was gone . That returns me from the distant memory to the present like a slap in the face. Please,
I m sorry he says begging. I ask him to leave. He gets up from the couch to leave. Am I making a
mistake? Maybe it can work out? I think and imagine his arms around me, hugging me, holding me
tight. I couldn t bear. The pain in my heart feels too strong to endure. I have to stop myself from
calling, running after him.
My cries turn into hysterics. I am angry. I feel so much pain, like I just got shot down, the bullets
piercing through my soul. I feel so alone. For days I cried myself to sleep; in the morning when I
woke up people asked me how I felt, but I lied convincingly because I did not want to reveal the fact
that I was suffering.
Even weeks after the breakup, I would jump up when I heard the phone ringing, thinking it was him.
When I received a page or a voicemail, a chill of hope would run down my spine. One night, while I
was going through my phone book, I came upon a picture of him and I, together, laughing. I looked at

Traditional Family In America
In America the concept of the traditional nuclear family is forced on the population by means of the
media, social media, and the educational systems. The idea or concept of this is ideal family is a
fallacy and no longer is a norm compared to the 1950 s. Only 48.4 percent of households have a
married couple; 20 percent of all households contain married couples who have children living with
them (Caruso Timmermann, 2013). This change means that the traditional family structure has
evolved. America has a high divorce rate of an estimated 40 to 50 percent. Castelloe states, that within
the last 50 years there has been an increase in divorce, cohabitation instead of marriage, blended
families both gay and heterosexual, and children born out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When children have issues at home, these issues affect other aspects of life, such as, education, mental
health, and social abilities. Tendencies that are different from social norms, may manifest themselves
in a student s education and grades. Parents recklessly shove children into relationships, forcing them
to assimilate. This may be very problematic and detrimental to a child s mental and emotional health.
Often, parents do not admit to needing help with parenting and resolving issues. A common belief is
that problems will work themselves out and it is just a matter of adjustment, this is usually false.
All individuals within a blended family, must contend with ethical, gender, economic, cultural, and
educational issues, for example. Deep seeded resentment, perceived unfair treatment, and lack of
attention, may create instability and affect the entire family unit. These stresses can be too much to
bare at times, increasing the risk for divorce. To assist the family unit, alleviate some of these issues,
family members should spend more time together and increase communication. This helps create a

Bill Cosby Medal Of Freedom Analysis
Some people are requesting the US government to revoke Bill Cosby s Medal of Freedom, after more
details have emerged in the rape allegations against the comedian. On Wednesday (July 15th),
President Obama addressed those seeking the revocation of Cosby s medal. There s no precedent for
revoking a medal. We don t have that mechanism, the President answered. While most people may
have expected President Obama to end his statement with that answer, he instead commented on what
he defines as rape. If you give a woman or a man, for that matter, without his or her knowledge, a drug
and then have sex with that person without consent, that s rape. This country, and civilized country,
should have no tolerance for rape, President Obama stated. Even though Cosby continues to deny the
rape allegations, an old deposition has surfaced and it now appears the rape accusations made by
countless women are true. During the deposition, Cosby admitted he had prescriptions for quaaludes
(a sedative), and he testified under oath that he gave a woman the sedative. Cosby was then asked if he
was going to use the quaaludes for women he wanted to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

was placed in the cappuccino without the women s consent), and most of the women woke up in bed

Subcontractor Resource Management Essay
Specialist contractors generally known as subcontractors perform the majority of the work on
commercial construction projects. They face significant challenges in allocating their resources across
multiple, concurrent projects (O Brien and Fischer 2000). Despite their central nature to project
performance, relatively little research has been performed to formally model their operations. Without
such modeling, there exists little basis from which to measure or improve performance. This
dissertation attempts to address the limited literature by providing a formal, information model for
subcontractor resource management. There are three main contributions: First, addition to the general
literature on subcontractor management as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

their resources. However, existing commercial applications cannot fully represent subcontractors (subs

capturing the practice of resource allocation is apparent and imperative. Unfortunately, existing
literature is missing a way which can detailed describe the processes of resource allocation. There is a
pressing need to provide such a representation as a basis to improve subcontractor resource
management performance.

American Revolution Loyalists Only a tiny fraction of the books written on the American Revolution are devoted to the loyalists the residents of the 13 colonies who chose to leave their homes rather than become citizens of the new republic. Such a nation bound approach to the writing of American history implies that the lives of those who left were not significant. Yet they were, and Maya Jasanoff, who teaches history at Harvard, has provided a richly informative account of those who made the choice to embrace imperial Britain. As earlier historians of the Revolution have pointed out, the loyalists tended to have strong connections to the imperial administration, belong to the Anglican Church and possess close business or family ties to Britain. But not all who left fitted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Near the end of the Paris peace negotiations that ended the war, a small but important amendment was added to the resulting treaty that prohibited the British from carrying away any Negroes, or other property. When he became aware of this proviso, Sir Guy Carleton, the commander of British forces in North America, acted. Charged with the task of evacuating 20,000 troops and 35,000 loyalists from New York, he made securing the freedom of the black loyalists a priority. He expedited the provision of documents establishing their freedom and hurried them onto a fleet of ships headed for Nova Scotia. The speed of this sequence of events infuriated George Washington. But Carleton responded that it was a matter of honor. The Negroes in question, he explained, I found free when I arrived in New York, I had therefore no right . . . to prevent their going to any part of the world they thought proper. Earlier, when Lord Dunmore, the colonial governor of Virginia, promised freedom to bondsmen who joined the British forces, as many as 20,000 including slaves belonging to Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry made the risky decision to escape. Jasanoff refers to this as an emancipation, though she might better have described it as a slave revolt, larger than any the Americas had yet to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Critique Michael Jordan Critique Amanda Casertano Book Review November 20, 2014 Critique of Michael Jordan and The New Global Capitalism written by Walter LaFeber Michael Jordan is more than just an athlete. He is a celebrity, a brand, and the face of many thriving companies. Everyone in the world, sports fan or not, knows Michael Jordan. If they don t know what he does or who he is, they have heard of the name, or can relate him to something. Michael Jordan was lucky enough to have been offered lucrative opportunities early in his career which led to the capitalization on Jordan merchandise. LaFeber highlights the opportunity Jordan had with Nike, and how they used not only Jordan himself, but also the sport to Americanize other cultures. Jordan was thought to be one of the most recognizable successful Americans; he was even ranked alongside a communist revolution leader by Chinese schoolchildren as one of the greatest figures in American history, even recognizable to natives of Lhasa, Tibet, and students at Beijing University and of course hometown fans from Chicago. Michael Jordan is described to be personified as an imaginative individual with skills that Americans dream of displaying in a society that adores graceful and successful individualism, while also having a competitive spirit and the discipline that Americans like to think drove their nation to the peak of world power. These skills Jordan exemplified, LaFeber writes, quickly translated into money and power. • 4. Failures Of Indira Gandhi Week Ten: This weeks analysis on Indira Gandhi helped me unpack her successes and failures. Some of the major failures that my group talked about was the forced sterilization, state of emergency, religious divide, censorship and corruption. The mass forced sterilization was ultimate failure in my eyes and as I talked about prior a major human rights violation. Interestingly, Indira Gandhi had no gender policy during her reign. One would think that a women politician would want to address so many of the problems that plague women on a daily basis. If I was a women in India during the time where Indira Gandhi came to power, I would have been devastated that she was not interested in improving women s rights. Indira also reinforced the religious divide within India, especially for the Sikhs. She ended up exacerbating tensions in the region, which ultimately lead to her demise. While she did have a lot of failures, this weeks class helped bring to light some of her successes as well. Prior to this class I only really thought of her failures and even during class my group had a hard time coming up with anything. I think her lack of credentials and her short sidedness made her ill prepared to be a ruler. Throughout this class I began to admire Nehru and his leadership of India; however, with Indira I felt myself being angry and disappointed with her ruling style. In addition, Howard Ehrlich (1990), director of the Prejudice Institute at Townson State University has coined the term ethno violence to include acts that do not arise to the legal standard of a crime, but contain an element of prejudice. These hate incidents may, for example, include the use of ethnic slurs or the exclusion of members of targeted groups from social activities at the workplace. From a psychological perspective, prejudice refers to a negative attitude toward individuals based on their perceived group membership for example, their race, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. Though as a form of discriminatory behavior, hate crimes often have an attitudinal dimension, the relationship between prejudice and criminal behavior tends to be complex. There is reason to believe that certain hate offenses result from some personal bias or hatred. Frost At Midnight Analysis In a conversation poem titled Frost at Midnight, romantic poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge creates a persona of himself who spends the duration of the poem having a one sided conversation with his newly born baby. The narrator laments his own childhood, but finds solace in knowing that his baby has potential for a better life than he, since the baby will have a nature centered upbringing. The narrator contrasts constricted and expansive imagery, enumerated and enjambed sentences, and alienated and familiar diction to underline the differences between his own childhood education, which was spent studying books, and the childhood education he hopes his baby will have. The narrator suggests that nature will offer his baby a childhood education superior to his own because nature will teach the baby to be one with the world, allowing him to feel peace and serenity no matter the circumstances. In this poem, the narrator opens up with a serene scene of a winter night or so it seems. Although the narrator describes an externally cozy, peaceful scene, he unveils a discordant heart, as suggested by the restless tone he uses. During this silent night, the narrator watches a piece of soot flicker over the fire: Only that film, which fluttered on the grate, / Still flutters there, the sole unquiet thing. While gay men didn t necessarily come out of any closet, neither did those around him ridicule, shame or shun him because of his desires. As Howard writes; ...silence not only deflected the sometimes harmful repercussions of disclosure, it created psychic space for individual contemplation and affirmation (p.32). The oral histories taken by Howard of Chuck Plant and Fitz Spencer illustrate his points regarding silence creating space for contemplation as Chuck is molested by an older male driver on a rainy afternoon. Chuck wonders if he should say something to someone but ...I finally decided not to say anything to anybody. I have no regrets about that (p.7). Fitz is given oral sex by one of the resident priests at the church his family attends and he believes that another priest there as well as all of the boys were aware of what was happening. In the Bible, one can find many examples of miracles, but the central miraculous event is the claim that Jesus rose from the dead after his crucifixion, this was easier to accept as the truth in the past, but now modern science and medical advances prove that dead people do not rise again, they can be resuscitated at the point of near death, but do not come back to life after hours of death. The most significant rebuff to belief in miracles came from David Hume. Hume dedicated much of his work to the understanding of miracles, Hume believed, and showed that Miracles were, relatively a logical impossibility. Hume also said that because miracles are scientifically impossible, then it is impossible to believe anyone who claims to have witnessed such an extraordinary event, he then made an additional four points. 1) In all History there are not a sufficient number of people who have witnessed a miracle who have good sense, education and learning to confidently say that these so called miracles were not delusions within themselves. This Southern church is enthusiastic, spontaneous, fundamentalist, and supernatural oriented. Several other reasons press the shift to the South. Among these, first, Western nations have largely developed an egregious attachment to tolerance and materialism. Second, simple population growth is slower in the West than developing nations. This does not imply that other major religions are not growing in the South also, the point is: Christianity is growing at an incredible rate in the Southern hemisphere and in China and impacts the global look of Christianity.[9] If such trends continue, Jenkins claims Christianity will inevitably become increasingly Southern in style, culture, philosophy, and academics. So the questions remain: what will Christianity look like when it is no longer culturally European or Western? Will it still be Christianity in its core? As the church population explodes in developing nations and becomes more indigenous to those cultures, will there be a conflict of orthodoxy and heresy like in the early church? Will the church become increasingly poor, libertarian, or spiritual? [10] In the second half of the book, Jenkins responds to these questions. In Chapter eight, Jenkins explores the turbulent possibility for horrific violence, war and terrorism along religious lines that might accompany the rise of Southern Christianity which is already happening and about which the western public is largely uninformed. Five of these books are known as the major prophets while the other twelve books are known as the minor prophets. The prophets in the Old Testament are very important. They were to tell the people to turn back to the Lord, remind people to conform to the Law, they were also to rebuild the nation and create a spiritual revival in the people as well as a regeneration in spiritual birth (Hindson, 2010, p. 123 124). Prophets were also given a very unique talent that they used for God. One of the most unique features of the true Old Testament prophets was their ability to predict (Hindson Yates, p. 289). Biblical prophets speak to future events as though they had already occurred (Hindson Yates, p. 289). Though prophets are known for their ability to foresee the future, they also address issues that the Israelites were facing. The prophets spoke on many issues such as idolatry, social injustice, and religious ritualism. Frederick E. Greenspahn addressed the prophets input on idolatry. How Tuition Fees Deter The Attendance Essay Increased enrollment and a decreased fiscal focus by governments on post secondary education has led to the ongoing inflation of tuition rates in Canada. By comparing countries with exorbitantly high tuition rates and countries with free education, the efficacy of the Canadian system can be studied. This paper will explore how tuition fees deter the attendance to university by low income and international students, and address the need to restructure our economically outdated post secondary system. Post secondary education is highly valued in Canada. Statistics Canada (2016) recorded that 64.1% of Canadians between the ages of 25 to 64 possess some form of post secondary education, a percentage that has been steadily increasing throughout the years. However, this influx in enrollment for higher education has greatly affected the way in which public institutions are funded. Historically, Canadian colleges have been funded largely through federal and provincial government grants, yet following the recession in the 1970s, funding was seriously impacted as the government was forced to focus their fiscal funding in higher priority areas (Jones, 2014). I think and imagine his arms around me, hugging me, holding me tight. I couldn t bear. The pain in my heart feels too strong to endure. I have to stop myself from calling, running after him. My cries turn into hysterics. I am angry. I feel so much pain, like I just got shot down, the bullets piercing through my soul. I feel so alone. For days I cried myself to sleep; in the morning when I woke up people asked me how I felt, but I lied convincingly because I did not want to reveal the fact that I was suffering. Even weeks after the breakup, I would jump up when I heard the phone ringing, thinking it was him. When I received a page or a voicemail, a chill of hope would run down my spine. One night, while I was going through my phone book, I came upon a picture of him and I, together, laughing. I looked at it for a few minutes and I asked ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Traditional Family In America In America the concept of the traditional nuclear family is forced on the population by means of the media, social media, and the educational systems. The idea or concept of this is ideal family is a fallacy and no longer is a norm compared to the 1950 s. Only 48.4 percent of households have a married couple; 20 percent of all households contain married couples who have children living with them (Caruso Timmermann, 2013). This change means that the traditional family structure has evolved. America has a high divorce rate of an estimated 40 to 50 percent. Castelloe states, that within the last 50 years there has been an increase in divorce, cohabitation instead of marriage, blended families both gay and heterosexual, and children born out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When children have issues at home, these issues affect other aspects of life, such as, education, mental health, and social abilities. Tendencies that are different from social norms, may manifest themselves in a student s education and grades. Parents recklessly shove children into relationships, forcing them to assimilate. This may be very problematic and detrimental to a child s mental and emotional health. Often, parents do not admit to needing help with parenting and resolving issues. A common belief is that problems will work themselves out and it is just a matter of adjustment, this is usually false. All individuals within a blended family, must contend with ethical, gender, economic, cultural, and educational issues, for example. Deep seeded resentment, perceived unfair treatment, and lack of attention, may create instability and affect the entire family unit. These stresses can be too much to bare at times, increasing the risk for divorce. To assist the family unit, alleviate some of these issues, family members should spend more time together and increase communication. This helps create a solid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Bill Cosby Medal Of Freedom Analysis Some people are requesting the US government to revoke Bill Cosby s Medal of Freedom, after more details have emerged in the rape allegations against the comedian. On Wednesday (July 15th), President Obama addressed those seeking the revocation of Cosby s medal. There s no precedent for revoking a medal. We don t have that mechanism, the President answered. While most people may have expected President Obama to end his statement with that answer, he instead commented on what he defines as rape. If you give a woman or a man, for that matter, without his or her knowledge, a drug and then have sex with that person without consent, that s rape. This country, and civilized country, should have no tolerance for rape, President Obama stated. Even though Cosby continues to deny the rape allegations, an old deposition has surfaced and it now appears the rape accusations made by countless women are true. During the deposition, Cosby admitted he had prescriptions for quaaludes (a sedative), and he testified under oath that he gave a woman the sedative. Cosby was then asked if he was going to use the quaaludes for women he wanted to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The victims claim the comedian offered to mentor them, and in several cases he would have the women meet him at his home. Once he was able to get the women alone with him, he offered them a cappuccino (the sedative was placed in the cappuccino without the women s consent), and most of the women woke up in bed without any memory of what ... • 49. Subcontractor Resource Management Essay Specialist contractors generally known as subcontractors perform the majority of the work on commercial construction projects. They face significant challenges in allocating their resources across multiple, concurrent projects (O Brien and Fischer 2000). Despite their central nature to project performance, relatively little research has been performed to formally model their operations. Without such modeling, there exists little basis from which to measure or improve performance. This dissertation attempts to address the limited literature by providing a formal, information model for subcontractor resource management. There are three main contributions: First, addition to the general literature on subcontractor management as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, frequent delays result in schedule changes, so subcontractors face challenges to manage their resources. However, existing commercial applications cannot fully represent subcontractors (subs ) resource allocation needs well. As noted by Ibbs and Nguyen (2007), the need for representing and capturing the practice of resource allocation is apparent and imperative. Unfortunately, existing literature is missing a way which can detailed describe the processes of resource allocation. There is a pressing need to provide such a representation as a basis to improve subcontractor resource management performance. 1.2 Case Study: Ellis Air Subcontractor A case study conducted as part of this research is briefly previewed . Ellis Air is an air/mechanical subcontractor located in Melbourne, Australia. Ellis Air currently has twenty three employees and works on seven to eight projects concurrently. The number of employees varies from eighteen to twenty eight because they may hire temporary employees. Ellis Air manually manages schedules and resources. To perform resource allocation, the project manager and resource manager will sit down with a piece of paper. They will list all projects and activities, and then start allocating resources based on their experiences. In case of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
