I Interviewed Xolo Thulani Msomi, A Prerequisite For...
As a prerequisite for Culture Interview Assignment for my Sociology class, I interviewed Xolo
Thulani Msomi, a sophomore at Westminster College on the 1st of February 2016. He comes from
the Zulu culture, a South African Culture. Xolo grew up in a small family his parents and his older
brother. Xolo traveled to India for his high school, where the students came from 60 different
nations and lived there for two years. Not only Indian culture, but Xolo also got exposed to other 60
different cultures from all over the world which provided him with an opportunity to understand
and have perspectives on various cultural values and ways of life. However, I have only gathered
the information about Zulu Culture through the detailed interview.
Zulu culture emphasis on the needs, wants and desire of the people of the society. It is an ancient
and popular culture practiced by the people of South Africa. People in this culture are defined by
the community values who believe that everyone has to work together to live a healthy and happy
life together as a community.
In Zulu culture, being a patriarchy society, marriages happen on the men side, and the women move
to their husband s house. Although the men are held in the higher stream with some privileges, the
people of Zulu culture believe in the equality between the men and women of the society. Women in
this culture are respected and protected and are given praise be understanding that without them

Nietzshean And Marx s Influence On Demian
Nietzshean And Marx s Influence On Demian
The novel Demian is highly influenced by some of Nietzsche s and Marx s ideas. Demian is an
important character that displays Nietzschean qualities of the overman (Nietzsche 125). With his
meeting with Sinclair, Demian put the seeds of doubt in Sinclair s mind about conception of truth
and the will of power that are both concepts found in Nietzsche s work. Demian also resembles
Nietzsche s character of Zarathustra and how he believes the importance of creating new set of
values. The resemblance with Marx is Demian s and Sinclair s belief that we should seek answers
within ourselves and not from a metaphysical world.
Hermann Hesse s book gets its title from his very important character Demian. ... Show more

However, they believe that the traditional values need to be re evaluated through their journey to
self education. The man who breaks their table of values, the breaker, the lawbreaker, yet he is the
creator. (Thus Spoke Zarathustra 135). In this extract, Nietzsche introduces the relation between
destruction and creation. The creation of new values could only be possible if the creation of a
new god takes place. Unlike Nietzsche, Hesse did not transmit the message that religion was
something to avoid and completely destruct. Demian and Sinclair still want to believe in a
superior figure, but a new one that has different values than the Abrahamic god. We can think of
the name as referring to something like a deity whose symbolic task is to unite the divine and the
satanic (Hesse 75). This quote refers to the god Abraxas whom Sinclair is very interested in. He
breaks the binary system created by the original God of the

Summary Of Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets
The book I read was Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, written by J.K. Rowling. The story
takes place at Hogwarts, a school of witchcraft and wizardry. Harry Potter is a student at
Hogwarts, and Ron and Hermione are his best friends. The main focus was a secret chamber
hidden in the school, that has been opened and was opened years before. There were attacks on
the students by a basilisk snake, which was put there by an evil wizard named Voldemort. Harry,
Ron, and Hermione kept searching for clues to find out how the attacks were happening until
they were lead right to the answer. Over all, the book was a good story and was very exciting
and creative. The story begins when Dobby, a small house elf, warns Harry about something bad
in Hogwarts. Something bad did happen. It was the chamber. It was being opened and attacks
were coming from it. Harry was trying to figure out who was planning the attacks, what was in
the chamber, and who opened it. Harry, Hermione, and Ron made assumptions about who
opened it before, and tried to figure out who it was by making potions, spying, and talking to
different people about it. They often met in the girls prefects bathroom to talk. Once when they
were in there making a potion to get ideas out of people, they came across a magical diary by a
person named Tom Riddle. Harry figured out how to work the magic diary and was told that his
friend Poole2 and the professor of magical creatures, Hagrid opened the chamber before, but the

In an ever expanding world where resource scarcity is discussed in side conversations and
overpopulation is being combatted by concerned nations, worldwide struggle of equal allocation
of vital resources persist. Biological resources and biodiversity in general are at the forefront of
these concerns. Decreasing biodiversity does not just pose a problem for the plants and animals
that are becoming increasingly endangered; individuals who have constructed their livelihood
around the availability of such resources face dire circumstances as scarcity arises. The greater
the variety of abundant plant and animal species present in the world, the greater the potential
opportunity, opportunities such as medical discoveries and newfound scientific knowledge that
increase the sustainability of life on Earth. However, tragedy of the commons, has led to overuse
of biological resources across the globe, throwing the issue of sustainability into question. While
species extinction is a natural process in the world ecosystem, the rate at which it has increased is
not. In the past 65 million years the rate of extinction has gone from one to five species per year
to roughly 1,000 to 10,000 times that rate (Diversity, 2013, pg. 1). This is no longer a matter of
natural selection; this is a matter of ineffective resource regulation worldwide. Despite extensive
amounts of environmental legislation actively in place, specie scarcity will continue to grow. The
greatest challenge now

Health And Patient Education For Diabetic Foot Care
Population Health and patient education for diabetic foot care
Generally our population sees diabetes as a disease for people that can t eat sugar, but, those with
diabetes know it comes with some life changing events. Diabetes effects an estimated 29.1 million
Americans each day. Diabetes develops in one of two forms, Type one and Type two. Type one is
insulin dependent diabetes, where the body lacks production of insulin (Ignatavicius Workman,
2013). Type two diabetics are insulin resistant, affecting mostly adults (Ignatavicius Workman,
2013). Diabetes is a chronic illness that accounts for many comorbidities and complications to those
suffering from the disease. Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death from conditions including,
hypertension, dyslipidemia, cardiovascular disease, heart attacks, stroke, blindness, kidney disease,
and amputations (American Diabetes Association, 2016). Management of these complications can
occur with proper education, health promotion, and prevention from the patient. Foot care and ulcer
prevention can reduce or eliminate complications suffered by diabetics; leading to infections
requiring hospitalization and the most serious amputations. Teaching this population or any
population about their healthcare needs and requirements can be difficult. Establishing the best
way to education will be explored within this paper. Throughout this paper the author will take a
look at daily foot care and prevention of ulcers. The paper will

Determine The Identity Of An Unknown Weak Acid Lab Report
Determining the Identity of an Unknown weak acid (Vernier)
Formal Lab Report

Dr. Reed
Objective:
Observe and measure a weak acid neutralization and determine the unknown identity of an unknown
acid by titration.
Introduction:
Within an acid base titration the titration curve resembles the strengths of the corresponding
acids and bases. A strong acid will correspond with a weak conjugate base, and a weak conjugate
acid will correspond with a strong base. This is based on the Bronsted Lowry model. The weak acid
will donate protons to the hydroxide ion. Weak acids will have a low Ka value, the Ka value is the
tendency of the acid to dissociate: Ka= [H+] [A ] [HA] Ka is the acid dissociation constant and
[HA] is the concentration of the weak acid . Strong acids usually completely dissociate and has a
Ka value greater than 1. Weak acids don t dissociate completely and have a Ka value much smaller
than 1. pKa values are often used for weak acids due to being able to work with whole numbers
pKa = log Ka During a titration the pH of the solution will be monitored using a pH meter from that
we get a titration curve. The titration curve is then used to determine the equivalent molecular
weight and Ka value of the unknown weak acid, from that we are

HIV And The Treatment Of HIV In West Africa
The virus penetrates the host body, weakens the immune system and can cause a life threatening
disease called AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) (Masthead, 1962).
The world health organization estimated that there were approximately 36.7 million people
infected with HIV at the end of 2016 (World Health Organization, 2017). There are two types of
HIV, i.e. HIV 1 and HIV 2. 95% of the infections that are spread worldwide is HIV 1 and HIV 2 is
mainly seen in some West African countries. They are different in genetic and structural level
where HIV 2 progresses more slowly than HIV 1 (I base.info, 2017). For the detection and
differentiation of HIV 2 and HIV 1 in a blood sample or plasma samples, we can use the Alere q

Subsequently these dendritic cells move towards lymph node (Altfeld and Gale Jr, 2015) and alert
the immune cells about the virus. For early stage of HIV infection, the innate response can play a
vital role in preventing mucosal transmission before HIV infection is established.
The necessary elements of innate immunity are called Natural killer (NK) which can also be
stated as CD3 CD56+ lymphocytes. They help to communicate between dendritic cells and T cells.
The main roles of NK cells are to control the chronic HIV infection and in HIV defense (Anon,
2017).
While the viral replication is restricted by immune response, adaptive immune system is activated to
fight against the virus. Adaptive immune systems are antigen specific immune response and are
more complex than innate. They recognize the antigen first and create a mass of immune cells
which are specially designed to attack that antigen. If the same type of antigen attacks on future,
they also include a memory for more efficient.
The body triggers two types of adaptive immunity, if HIV infection invades the target cell. One
of the major adaptive immune response is cellular response. After the target cells are infected by
the HIV, the cellular immune response is induced and viral proteins are synthesized. T cell
receptor on CD8+ T cells recognizes the degradation of HIV derived proteins shown by Major
Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) class I found on the cell surface of the cell. CD8+ T tries to

Blended Family Essay
A blended family is when two people enter a marriage when they have children from a previous
relationship. These families have been termed blended families because the two new spouses and
the children are attempting to blend into one family unit. Blended families are commonly known as
step families. Some other terms for blended families are reconstituted, restructured, and remarried
families. Blended families are starting to become the most common type of familyin the United
States. It can be hard to determine the exact number of blended families in existence, but data from
2009 showed there are around 5.3 million children living with a step parent. One problem which
faces blended families is that they evaluate their success as a family based on nuclear family
patterns. Blended families are very different from the nuclear families and when members of a
blended family attempt to structure their family in accordance with a nuclear family, they
experience culture shock (Strong Cohen 2014). The differences between the two family types needs
to be accepted, and then a blended family can be successful. In this paper, the relationships between
family members will be examined including gender differences, the communication between them,
and the boundaries they establish. The paper will also go into the educational problems step
children tend to have. In a blended family, stepfathers and stepmothers have different relationships
with their children than biological parents do. A

Mulan is loaded with references towards religion and the profound sense of being particularly
some the conventions, practices, and estimations of East Asian religions. A reoccurring religious
subject that is consistently referenced in the film includes repeating supplication to and specify
of, the Fa family s progenitors. In the start of the movie Mulan, her dad, her mom, and her
grandma are all either straightforwardly imploring or allude to petitioning their predecessors on

to give Mulan direction when she leaves for the armed force. A profound sense of being and religion

Pros And Cons Of School Lunches
For 13 years we all go to school and with that comes school lunches. There are always the select
few that consistently brown bag it through out their career but I am sure at some point they have
slid their tray down the line to get instant reduced fat mashed potatoes and whole wheat tortilla
chips. Schoollunches may not have always been good but they have never been worse than they are
now.
Since Barack Obama became president and his wife became First Lady there have many changes in
what we eat at school. According to Kate Murphy in the article Why Students Hate
School Lunches the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act which passed in 2012, watches the sodium, fat,
and calories of meals. They are now more focused on good proteins and more fruits and vegetables.

With these changes, schools cannot afford to receive good tasting food so it forces many to pack a
brown bag in the morning.
With many students packing a lunch instead of buying from the school it hurts the income for
schools. According to Jeffery Solochek in the article Students Complain Portions Too Small
Under New School Lunch Menus Julie Hedine, Food and Nutritional Supervisor of Pasco
Halonen !2
Schools said the number of students buying school lunches is down 16% from the year before.
Chris Burkhardt the director of child nutrition and and wellness at the Lokota Local School
District stated they also lost revenue compared to previous years for them it was 15% (Murphy).
It is not just these two school districts that are hurting because of the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids
Act, 70 percent of schools in the meal program have been negatively affected (Murphy).
Since 2012 the portion sizes of foods and of the meals in general have greatly decreased and
students are speaking out. Whether it is making a funny video, writing about it in blogs, or simply
boycotting school lunches students are figuring out ways to be heard. In the

Analysis Of Becoming The Boss By Linda Hill
Analysis of Becoming the Boss Linda Hill s article Becoming the Boss details several helpful and
important ideas for first time leaders and managers to consider. My first overview of the article
included thoughts that the article had a somewhat discouraging and negative outlook on new
managers. Hill makes the statement throughout the article that the transition into becoming a
leader or new manager is often very traumatic and the failures of the new managers are not
surprising. After a more detailed review, I understand Hill s purpose is to share the negative
stories of new managers so the reader can use the stories as a learning guide for the transition into
the managerial role. After understanding Hill s purpose, it is easier to... Show more content on

It is important for the subordinates to remember the individual taking on the new managerial
role was previously just in the subordinate s position. There are many aspects of the new role to
learn and the best help the new manager can receive is support from his or her subordinates. As
a person new to a managerial role, Hill s advice in the article on learning through everyday
experience by making mistakes is extremely reassuring. Within the article, Hill elaborates on the
misconception that managers wield significant authority (Hill, 2007, p.3). Once new managers
have made it to the top, it is important for them to realize they were just in their subordinates
position. Hill (2007) quotes a new manager stating, It s humbling that someone who works for me
could get me fired (Hill, p.5). From personal experience, in the beginning, my superior has warned
me it will first and foremost be my work that pushes me to the Hartness 3 top of the company. In
addition to my individual work, it will be the relationship I build with the people under me. Lacking
an effective relationship with my subordinates will take me back to the bottom of the company. Hill
lists forging good individual relationships as a misconception (Hill, 2007, p.7). Although team
building is extremely important, I would disagree with Hill s statements on team building being
more important than individual relationships (Hill,

Skeleton Key Quotes
First off, Alex is clever and curious in the book Skeleton Key. He was clever throughout the
book so far. At the start of the book it says, He ran on tip toe... Now was the time to move
(Horowitz 135 136). This quotes explains that he was on a yacht and saw that one of his
partners was in trouble and being held hostage. Alex thought a diversion quickly, which was to
set the yacht on fire. His goal was to get everyone outside to help put out the fire while Alex and
his partner escaped without being seen. It went exactly as planned, but the boss was still in the
room and he had to kill him to save his partner. Further, the second reason he is clever is how he
fought the security guard. During the fight he is thinking how is he going to attack the enemy and
defend him while trying to find an escape during the fight.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The last reason he is clever was for a situations on the plane. The book says, Wait a minute...
asking him to carry it (Horowitz 148 149). The quote explains that he was undercover with a
couple of CIA agents and the woman who was acting as the mother said he should keep is
seatbelt because the seatbelt light was still on and instead of saying no and make a scene with
his fake mom he said ok mother and put his seatbelt back on. Also at the start of the plane flight
they have him a Gameboy, which he thought was just a nice gift, but he realized they gave it to
him because he would look the least suspicious with it because it had gadgets in it which would
help them on the mission. The second word that describes Alex is curious. Towards the beginning
of the book it states, He was in a underground... telephone conversation in his mind (Horowitz 46

going to meet. Later, he realized that it was a trap, which led to the fight where he knocked out the

My First Activity Of The Food Pantry
My first activity that I was involved in with Catholic Social Services was the food pantry. As my
children progressed through high school, I knew certain classes or clubs were involved with
participating in food drives. Our house was one of the most targeted homes for quite some time
as we live directly across the street from St. Michael s Elementary School which is where some
of the organizations met. St. Cecilia s is also a school that requires wearing a uniform and,
occasionally, the kids could have a free jeans day if each student brought in so many items for
the food pantry and my children were no different than a lot of the others...they wanted to wear
jeans so they would raid my pantry to take food to school. I did not really give it much thought at
the time when I was pulling food from my pantry of how this small act of kindness would help
others. I knew there was a need for the food otherwise the food drive would not take place. I was so
naГЇve in my thought process at that time. The night that I helped sort food at the food pantry
was a major eye opener. My role for the evening was to help supervise high school students, who
were sorting through the food as a community service project. When I walked into the basement
where the food sorting was done, I found several areas that housed certain foods. In talking with
the coordinator, I found that most of that foods had been donated by various stores whether the
store has a quota that is established for donations or if

New Business Model Of College Students
College students who have to have certain kind of software for school often find themselves in a
predicament when they cannot afford software that they need for a class whether it be for an
English major or Graphics Design major. Students are facing a new business model where
companies like adobe and MicrosoftOffice are making their software into a monthly payment
instead of a one time pay for the software. Software companies should not have their software on a
monthly payment for students because low budgets, users rent not own, and is it worth it.
In general college students are broke, students are doing good to buy ramen noodles for
themselves. How could they pay over $50 a month for something like Adobe Creative Cloud,
$30 a month for Grammarly, or $75 a year for Microsoft Office? The C Net report talks about
how software and web based companies like subscription payment It s time to sign up for a

Anger In Poison By Roald Dahl
Anger is an extremely volatile, hateful emotion. The emotion is understood to happen from time to
time unconditionally, and it occurs in the best of people. However, some anger is uncalled for and
extremely rude. In Roald Dahl s short story, Poison, one of the main characters, Harry, exhibits
extreme angerfor the following reasons: he had a severe superiority complex, he was under
extreme stress, and he was taken aback by the doctor s sarcasm. Harry felt he was vastly superior
to the doctor, and that resulted in his outburst. First this story set in India, much of the population

Educator Training Regardless of the years of athletic experience among a team of coaches and

psychological dimensions of student athletes; thereby applying the first tenet of SLT. Smith and
Smoll examined the effects of providing positive athletic setting resulting in a 30 5% reduction in
athlete dropout rates. I appreciate the fact these results were equally positive among both boy and

If a student has been modeling poor character, he needs to know that he has the power to turn his
behavior around with tools, such as imagery. With this technique, a student is guided to remember
situations and imagines making better choices with better outcomes. Smith and Smoll s study
indicates that the sooner imagery occurs after an incident, the stronger are its effects. Author,
coach, and father, Mike James tells his athletes that negative thoughts will creep in from time to
time; however, the key is whether we submit to these thoughts and emotions and let them control
us or whether we exercise our freedom of choice as respond a different way (James, 2017, p. 236).
Inspirational tools include allowing coaches to be social agents who label positive sporting
behavior, and practicing mental skills for improving moral reasoning. And when detrimental actions
occur, be prepared, because conduct issues will arise. Managing Conduct Issues How coaches react
to conduct issues can create positive learning opportunities, promote character development, and
create an opportunity to apply all the tenets of SLT. Begin with assessing the student and content to

Anne Frank s Response To Conflict
Everyone goes through crisis some time in their life, but how should they react to it? It s
Simple, stay positive. Yes, sometimes it can be difficult to even think of anything good when
having a lousy day, but looking for the good in things is always the right answer. There will
always be a way out of a crisis in some way, so the best way to spend the time is to count your
blessings and dwell on the positive. Like Anne Frank and Sophie Scholl, their response to
conflict affected many people in the process. People can best respond to conflict by staying
positive, because the situation can only get worse by having a bad attitude. Many people go
through really hard times in their life, but there are many ways that you can respond to this
conflict, and sometimes even avoid it. One thing that you could do is write down your thoughts in
a journal or diary. While Anne Frank was in the Holocaust, she wrote all... Show more content on

The first thing that I stuck in was this diary, and then curlers, handkerchiefs, schoolbooks, a comb
and some old letters (Frank 373). You can tell that Anne thoughtthat her diary was important, and
in some ways it helped her organize her thoughts, and helped her see the good things that were
happening around her. Another good thing to think about is self talk. Positive thinking often starts
with self talk. Self talk is the endless stream of unspoken thoughts that run through your head.
These automatic thoughts can be positive or negative. Some of your self talk comes from logic
and reason. Other self talk may arise from misconceptions that you create because of lack of

British Military Force Analysis
The sheer supremacy of the British military force was more than capable of expeditiously
suppressing an amateur rebellion and successfully restoring the insurgent colonies to their innate
allegiance. Until Washington finally adopted a defensive strategy at the fortress of Harlem Heights,
the British undoubtedly had a significant military leverage over the Americans; therefore, if Lord
Germain s [Germain] strategy were properly employed, the British should have won. Germain
informed General William Howe[Howe], and subsequently General Henry Clinton [Clinton], of his
plan in which a decisive blow had to be delivered before any reconciliation so that the
overwhelming force would shock the rebels into recognizing the futility of their cause. ... Show

The only reason the Continental Army was spared was because of Howe s secret hopes of
negotiating a peaceful end to the rebellion. He was also so sure of the fact that British victory
was inevitable, which in turn meant that a more limited strategy was wholly adequate. By
delaying the process of suppression, the Continental Army gradually gained experience and
courage. Washington also learned from his mistakes in the Battle of New York and ignored his
aggressive military instincts; he eventually put aside his honor driven character to adopt a new
attitude towards his definition of a victory. Though it ran counter to all his instincts, he now
realized that his goal was not to win the war but rather not to lose it, and thus he embraced a
defensive strategy in the fortress of Harlem Heights. However, before this pivotal moment in
history, Howe could have and probably should have listened to Clinton in targeting the Continental
Army at King s Bridge. However, Howe wanted his American campaign to be a more measured
affair, meaning he could have put an early end to the Continental Army, but chose not to in order to

Persuasive Essay On Healthy Lifestyle
The Healthy Lifestyle Everybody sees it everywhere. Lose 60 pounds in 6 weeks! Skinny is
what s in! Detox diet plan! It s a fair assumption to assume that the world, especially the United
States, is obsessed with being healthy. From celebrity workout programs to expensive diet
systems that make people lose weight, being fit is always what s mainly focused on in the
media, daily life, and nationwide. But with obsessions, come unhealthy actions and interests.
Most people that anyone knows is most likely upset with some aspect of themselves. Whether it
be the way they look, how they eat, or their lifestyle, obsession happens because of the nearly
impossible body types and lifestyles found on social media. On top of this, there are also
restrictions and challenges that come with eating a healthy diet that seem simply irradical to
address, and unhealthier foods are more available than ever. With these slowly arising issues,
anyone would think the nation is making it hard for themselves to be healthy. The society the
nation lives in is making it progressively harder and harder to be healthy because of the lifestyles
that are easier to achieve. While most agree that being healthy and active is a good thing, some
feel that being healthy is too much of a chore, and would rather point fun at the people who choose
to have more beneficial lifestyles. Many people in the nation contradict their wants to be in good
health by harassing others who already have healthy

Common Wealth Address ( 1932 )
10.In F. D. R. s Common Wealth Address (1932) he discusses the problems with government and
their solutions starting with the problem that a majority of the men who created national
government were more than not, cruel in how they set things up. The solution is that while they
were cruel, they set up central government, which was a safe haven for the people. The central
government kept out national government to a point on certain issues such as civil disputes, war
and keeping the peace. The national government by many was also thought to only benefit the few
and many of those who founded it to keep the balance of power just the central governments were
also key. The creation of the state or central government balanced the power against the national
government Another problem that was foreseen in the government was the belief that popular
government was dangerous and unfeasible. Government could be a great or awful thing and
protecting people from government in firing on their rights and becoming an awful thing was
Jefferson in the rights that needed to be set. His first rights included those under the name personal
competency and property rights with these right people to an extent could live their life the way
they see fit, but still needed the government in order to protect those rights and to make sure other

The Trials And Tribulations Of Racism

woven in every part of the plot, it contributed to the conflict and resolutions, and gave the story a

delicately integrated. In Kabuo Miyamoto s situation, the court was harsh on his case, and he
couldn t get himself a very good lawyer, as no one would offer to defend the enemy . They were
quick to jump to conclusions. He got hit pretty hard with something fairly flat, Art. Puts me in
mind of a type of gun butt wound I saw a few times in the war. One of those kendo strikes the
Japs used. Also, even though the Japanese are a main part of the story, they were portrayed as
isolated and reclusive. They were very cold to other people, a result of a mindset of superiority.
As they only associated with others of their race, they were untrusting and distant from others.
Kabuo didn t even trust the lawyer who was to keep him out of prison. As the book switches time
frames, there were subtle or evident signs of challenges of racial tension everywhere. You could
see how this theme had effects on everything in a slightly different manner, depending on the
situation. Many of the conflicts in the book were based off

Ernesto Quinonez s The Conversation Through Storytelling...
Ernesto Quinonez s novel is very influential and gives insight into the harsh reality of being a
minority in America. Quinonez also speaks on the history of the Latino culture and the life
experiences. The fabricated stories based on true events, affected Latinos as well as other
nationalities. This book has served its purpose and is speaking to families, friends, wives, husbands,
and children on being aware and conscious of the reality that surrounds them. This novel amazed
me with the political and historical content surrounding the Latino community, and it is extremely
powerful as it shows independence in its own culture. The novel uses its content to bring awareness
of Latino ethnic identity, their way of life, and defines social factors from within. (Barajas 2014)
Ernesto Quinonez sparks the conversation through storytelling using testimonials that transcends to
others, guiding their natives through these circumstances and strengthening their communities.
Other Latino writers, such as Cornell West and Susan Willis (both Latino writers), used their
literature as a platform to showcase the uniqueness of Latino ethnicity in the United States as well as
expose the division between Puerto Ricans and Americanized Puerto Ricans. (Barajas 2014)
The novel shows equality and gives the reader information on hardships experienced by Latinos
without a show of feelings or complaint. When reading the novel, I found it interesting to read that
Puerto Ricans are exiled and I found it

Summary Of Janus By Ann Beattie
The short story, Janus by Ann Beattie is a story that pays great attention to details. Beattie uses
descriptive words to raise the awareness of the reader and point them to certain objects and
characters that later serve as symbolisms in determining the meaning of the story. Although there
are many details that help illustrate the main idea, we can identify three crucial details that perform
a central function in stressing the meaning of the story. The first central detail is the bowl. The
opening line to the story is, The bowl was perfect. The fact that the bowl was mentioned first and
not the protagonist, Andrea, stresses its significance in the story. Throughout the story the bowl is
constantly described as both subtle and noticeable ,

Challenges in Future Planning
Extensive Wait Times for Surgeries
Canada s health care system assures universality, portability, and accessibility; disappointingly,
not all Canadians have access to specialists and facilities. Many patients face long wait times or
do not have access to anesthetic and surgical care because the inadequate supply of
anaesthesiologists for demand of Canada s aging population. For instance, a woman experiencing
severe pain in her right lower abdomen may endure excessive wait time to receive pain relief and
life saving care. However, surgical or other medical procedures can only be performed if patients
have access to an anaesthesiologist. Despite government promises, and the billions of dollars
funnelled into the Canadian healthcare system, the average wait time for surgeries in Ontario is
approximately 14.3 weeks (Barua, Rovere Skinner, 2011).
Waste of Tax Dollars
Moreover, hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars are wasted since many Canadians do not have
timely access to anaesthesiologists. Almost five million Canadians do not have access health care
professionals, or they experience long waits to see specialists (Canadian Association of Advanced
Practice Nurses, 2011). The shortage of anaesthesiologists and services not rendered appropriately
is costing Canadians money as

Forsaken Promises
What does the future hold? What will happen at the end of the age? Will the church be raptured up
into Heaven or will the church remain on Earth? Are the Jews still God s chosen people? Has the
church replaced Israel? These and other questions have been asked since Jesus left Earth and
ascended into Heaven. Since that day Christians have been looking and longing with eager
anticipation for the return of Christ. The study of the return of Christ, or last things, is known as
Eschatology, and within Eschatology there are several schools of thought concerning the Church

Boice writes, In the OT there is the creation of an ekklesia, an assembly of those who are called
out of a normal relationship to the world in order to be a special people of God. The church is
not Plan B in God s plan of salvation but rather was hinted at in the OT through the calling out of
Abraham and Israel but was not fully realized until the NT. Blaising argues this point when he
writes, The church is seen less and less as a parenthesis in the divine program. Instead it is seen as
vitally linked to and comprehended in the plan of God revealed in the Old Testament. The sharp line
which is drawn between the Church and Israel is dulled within PD as this view attempts to
harmonize the two Testaments into one unifying work of God throughout all of history.
TD views the church as in a parenthetical relationship with God and His plan for Israel. TD taught
that the offer to the kingdom of Israel was genuine, but it was also conditional and contingent on the
nations response, when Israel choose to reject the Messiah, the offer of Jesus Christ was offered to
the Gentiles and the kingdom did not immediately appear but was postponed. TD argue that had the
Israelites accepted the Messiah the Kingdom would have begun immediately, however, since Israel
rejected Jesus the offer went to the Gentiles. Therefore, since

Why Is John F Kennedy Successful
John F. Kennedy ran for congress in the year 1946 than for senate in 1952. John Kennedy was

The Size Of The House Of Representatives
In 1787, one of the most debated issues was the size of the House of Representatives. During the
Constitutional Convention, the delegates proposed that 40,000 citizens should be represented by
one congressional district. However, George Washington intervened and argued that 40,000 was too
high, and reasoned that 30,000 was more reasonable and allow people to be represented adequately
Washington s proposal was incorporated in Article One, Section Two of the Constitution which
states representatives shall be apportioned among the several States according to their respective
numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each State. While the number of representatives
did increase throughout the history of the United States, the number has been set at 435 members
since 1929. Congress in 1929 passed the Permanent Apportionment Act that set the number of
representatives at 435, which was set after a 1910 census. Currently each representative represents
700,000 citizens and congressional seats are redistricted around the nation based on population
changes. But the currently number of representatives does not adequately represent the present
population and a single district cannot represent a huge number of people. Therefore, the current
number of representatives must be increased. After the Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929,
congressional seats are move around the nation after each decennial census However, each state is

Use Of Force And Police Brutality
Abstract The unnecessary use of force use the police officers is referred to as police use of
excessive force and police brutality. Both excessive force and police brutality involve physical
contact with a law enforcement officer with a citizen or civilian. Physical contact and police
brutality can both lead to death. It is entirely within the police officer discretion the type of force
to use during an arrest. Maybe a police officer s cannot handle making the correct judgment call,
or perhaps having too much power affects their ability to perform their job effectively. This
behavior has to stop, police brutality needs to end today. Society distrust for police has gotten
worse over the years. The police need to rebuild the trust again in America. Police brutality is a
growing epidemic. According to Statics, (2015) in the United States, a police officer takes the
life of a citizen every 7 hours. In 2015, there were 1,307 people who lost their lives at the hands
of a police officer or law enforcement official. In 2016, that number was 1,152. Although lower,
both years are still higher than the 1,149 people who were killed by police in 2014. (Fatal
Encounters/Mapping Police Violence) Whereas, 69% of the victims of police brutality in the
United States who are African American/Black were suspected of a non violent crime and were
unarmed. (Mapping Police Violence) Consequently, the police officers are indicted in less than
1% of killings, but the indictment rate for civilians involved in a killing is 90%. As a result,
police officers do not have a set of laws that apply to them. Since police brutality is high, society
now distrusts law enforcement because of their higher rate of police brutality. In order to regain
the trust of society, police brutality must STOP or maybe the police community relationship
beyond repair. Presently, the duties of a police officer, also known as a law enforcement officer,
focus on protecting people and property. They patrol the areas they are assigned, which sometimes
include entire jurisdictions respond to calls enforce laws make arrests issue citations, and
Occasionally testify in court cases However, the safety of officers and

Vincent Van Gogh As A Craftsman
Vincent van Gogh, a standout amongst the most understood post impressionist craftsmen, for
whom shading was the central image of articulation, was conceived in Groot Zundert, Holland
on March 30, 1853.The child of a minister, raised in a religious and refined climate, Vincent was
exceptionally enthusiastic, needed fearlessness and battled with his character and with course. He
trusted that his actual calling was to lecture the gospel; notwithstanding, it took a long time for
him to find his calling as a craftsman. In the vicinity of 1860 and 1880, when he at last chose to
end up plainly a craftsman, van Gogh had officially experienced two inadmissible and troubled
sentiments and had worked unsuccessfully as an assistant in a book shop, a workmanship sales
representative, and an evangelist in the Borinage where he was rejected for enthusiasm. He stayed
in Belgium to think about workmanship, resolved to give bliss by making excellence. Crafted by
his initial Dutch period are serious conditioned, forcefully lit, sort sketches of which the most well
known is The Potato Eaters (1885). In that year van Gogh went to Antwerp where he found crafted

Science-Fiction Films During The 1950 s
The science fiction film genre serves as an excellent medium for examining shifting power
structures, social paranoia and Cold War politics during the 1950s. A number of films released
during this period, including: Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), The Day the Earth Stood
Still (1951), Them (1954) and Attack of the 50ft Woman (1958), are particularly symptomatic of
the social and political atmosphere of the time. These films navigate not only narrative based
issues such as the threat of aliens and science experiments gone wrong; but also wider issues of the
time, such as the Cold War, changes in the US filmindustry, urbanisation, politics, the growing
power of women and most significantly, social concern about nuclear energy.
Before analysing individual science fiction films from the 1950s, it is important to gain a clear
understanding of the social, cultural and political background against which these films were set.
Paranoia is a term frequently used to describe an acute, anxiety dominated medical condition
(Paranoia, 2009), however in the context of 1950 s America, this term can be used more accurately
to describe the general, delusionary mood of the nation. The first important event that influenced a
paranoiac filmmaking atmosphere was the Cold War. As opposed to the hot war (WWII) that
involved active military hostilities, the Cold War was based on heightened tension and suspicions
between Western Bloc (USA) powers and Eastern Bloc (Soviet Union) powers (The

Poetry composers evoke ideas of truth to help individuals and readers understand their ideas that
have been portrayed through their work. Wilfred Owen was a war poet who served in world war
one. In Owens poems of Dulce Et Decourm Est and Anthem for Doomed youth . Both poems
explore the ideas of meaningless sacrifice and suffering as wells as the horrors of war. Owen used
many poetic techniques to help him convey his ideas of war.
Young lives are wasted in war which only increases the cruelty and meaningless of it. Wilfred
Owen s poem, Dulce et Decorum est follows the death of a young soldier. In the line If you could

Owen successfully evokes the ideas of truth in the poem Dulce et Decorum est the line You would
not believe with such high zest, to children ardent for some desperate glory, the old lie through the
use of metaphors and personification Owen demonstrates that the reality of the individual s
experience in war meant that they ended up challenging their sense of duty, their blind patriotism
and understood that the true meaning of war is futile. The unimaginable suffering they lived
through further highlights this reality. Also in the poem Anthem for doomed youth Owen
explores the truth of war in the quote Shall shine the holy glimmers of goodbyes. Owen uses the
technique of symbolism to link the glimmers of goodbyes to a funeral. Many soldiers did not
receive proper funeral rights and were just buried in mass graves. Owen also shows the truth of
war through the mortality of war in his oxymoronic approach of the colossal loss of life.
Essentially Owen explores the truth of war through the themes of psychological scars and the

Poverty In Detroit Research Paper

in more income and more people each year, which led to Detroit s expansion and population peak

an economic downfall to put them in the impoverished state they are facing today?
Most of Detroit s economic downfall was because of the reliance on a single industry, which at the

Theme Of Friendship In The Outsiders
A Story About Friendship, Courage, and Empathy The functions of intellect are insufficient and
useless if you are without courage, love, friendship, compassion, and empathy, says a quote by
Dean Koontz. Throughout S.E. Hinton s book The Outsiders, there are many themes that she
conveys in the book as she narrates the experiences of a greaser named Ponyboy who is a
member of the Social group (Socs). Ponyboy meets many people and witnesses many difficult
situations throughout the book. This inspirational book teaches the reader crucial lessons that
are very important for everyone, even if their lives are not anything like Ponyboy s. Three
important themes in the book include friendship, courage and empathy. Friendship is mandatory
to be able to trust and rely on one another. Hinton writes about troubles that Ponyboy goes
through and how his friends have a great impact on these experiences. For example, Johnny
killed Bob who was a member of the Socs, because he saw that Bob along with other Socs were
trying to drown Ponyboy. He knew that he d be in trouble, and he could have just left then and
there. Instead, he killed Bob because they were hurting Ponyboy. Another situation where the
author shows the theme of friendship is when Ponyboy got jumped and his whole gang came to
help him. They were always ready to help a member of their group. Also, the situation when the
church was on fire and Dally went to try and save Johnny, shows friendship as well. In chapter 6,
Jerry, who Ponyboy thinks is one of the school s teachers, says, We think the towheaded kid is
going to be all right. He burned one arm pretty badly, though, trying to drag the other kid out of
the window, (pg. 95). This tells us that Dally, who at first wouldn t help the children in the
church, helped Johnny get out because he was his friend and he cared about him. This shows
how Dally demonstrates his friendship. Courage is crucial to be able to overcome obstacles and
help others. Courage is a big theme in The Outsiders. For example, Ponyboy showed a lot of
courage when he decided to fight in the rumble. He wasn t in good shape as he had lost weight
and was very tense. However, he fought in the rumble regardless to show his gang that he

bodies of water. To help our watershed it doesn t seem too hard if we get the right help, it might
take a lot of time and dedication but not impossible. My partner and I had a few ideas but we
decided on one. Our way to help our watershed would be by putting sea bins in some rivers that
you can tell are contaminated with trash. We started brainstorming and ended up with the
thought about putting a sea bin in the Poudre River first for like a month or two to see if there s
any difference. If putting a sea bin there is successful then we thought about putting more sea
bins in rivers in Colorado. In order for this to work we would have to request people for the help we

Morals In Toy Story 2
I remember growing up, watching Pixar movies with my family. Their bright colors and playful
characters were perfect for entertaining us children and even the adults. I always wanted to
watch Toy Story 2 directed by John Lasseter because I was afraid of the first film. What really got
me was the scene where they met all of Sid s creepy creations, especially the baby head. Though
when I was older and no longer afraid, I realized how much meaning there really was in Toy Story.
It even holds great morals that can reflect on some of the rules from Choosing Civility written by
P. M. Forni. Woody at first was very unsure of Buzz and did not like him because he was now the
cool one and Buzz had a few of his own problems that Woody tried to help him with including
thinking he was real and not a toy but through their adventures they learned that they needed to
work together to get back to their favorite kid, Andy.
To start with, Pixar has an amazing way of hiding morals in its movies, the spectacular thing
about that is that kids will be learning without even realizing it. Toy Story has a main Character
named Woody and his role is to take care of the rest of the toys in the room, kind of as the mayor.
This seemed to work well but when a new toy comes to town he feels like his dominance is
threatened and basically goes primal trying to get rid of him by running him over with the RC car.
This shows how unhealthy jealousy really is when everyone else didn t care that he was

Psycho Essay
Psycho
When asked what they remember from the original Psycho, most people would say that the shower
scene was the part of the film that they remembered most. In this essay I will be analysing this
famous scene but from the remake directed by Gus Van Sant.
The remake of the film, created in the nineteen ninety s, has many differences from the sixties
version. This is advantageous to the production. Examples of this are the use of colour and modern
camera techniques that can be used to create tension, fear, anxiety, and psychological horror. A
result of the use of modern camera techniques is that the director can diversify the camera shots
which allows the audience to seemingly see through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This uneasiness is also caused by the fact that Marian is in her dressing gown and in her bedroom.
This makes the audience feel intrusive and involved, they are also aware of the vulnerability of
Marian at this point in the film.
The audience watch her tare up the paper which is used to write her repayment sums on, which, to
the audience is seen as evidence of her crime and if it was found she would be caught. This
representation of her crime is presented to the audience as it illustrates evidence of her crime which
again implements the audience in her criminal activities because they have witnessed the crime and
the evidence. This makes the audience feel almost guilty but also anxious to be so involved with
Marian and the emotions are magnified as the audience empathise with her.
Marian Crane gets up out of her chair as she destroys the evidence but instead of moving to
another shot Van Sant uses the same camera to pan across the room and follow her. The camera
shows a shot that encroaches on Marian as it is very close to her all of the time. It is intended to
make the viewer feel very uncomfortable as they see the whole thing through the eyes

Calypso Research Paper
The Baddest of Them All People always talk about how heroes are so great. But the real reason
the hero does or completes his legendary acts are because of the villain. The villain is what
causes the problem, and makes up the entire story. So even though there have been many unique,
grueling villains throughout time, to memorable ones are the White Witch, the villain from the
book The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, and Calypso, a beautiful but evil woman from The
Odyssey. But when these two vile women are compared, the White Witch has the coldest heart of
the two for many reasons. It is true that Calypso is obviously a villain because she is greedy,
selfish, and holds people captive, but she is an empty cupboard when it comes to one very... Show

The White Witch tries to take over Narnia and casts an eternal winter over the magical land.To
start off, The White Witch is a greater villain than Calypso because she is greedy. According to
the text, Then you will know that the boy belongs to me. (turns to crowd) That boy (points to
Edmund) will die on the Stone Table (The Chronicles of Narnia Episode I, The Lion the Witch and
the Wardrobe). This shows that the White Witch is a greater villain than Calypso because while
Calypso did show she was greedy when not wanting to give up Odysseus, The White Witch was
greedy in taking an innocent boy, and killing him.Equally fascinating, The White Witch is an
obviously greater villain than Calypso because she is selfish. Stated in the text, I m kidnapping you.
It s the White Witch, the one that makes it always winter, and never Christmas (The Chronicles of
Narnia Episode I, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe). This shows that the White Witch is a
greater villain than Calypso because while she is making everyone miserable in not celebrating
Christmas, Calypso is only not understanding men. Unquestionably important,The White Witch is
an above class, more outstanding villain than Calypso because she holds people captive. In the text,

Nutrition Essentials For Nursing Practice
Nutrition Essentials for Nursing Practice is a class that is not only required but also necessary
for the future endeavors of my career. These past weeks, although on the internet, this class is and
has been very informative. We have covered several topics that have included topics such as but
not limited to Peptic Ulcer, Cardiac, Vitamin D Deficiency, and the one that I appreciated the

did we view and discuss these topics, but we were given cases to study as real clients. This class is
to help us assist our patients clients with their nutritionneeds. This class taught us to figure BMI of

Future The Matrix
THE REIVEW ABOUT THE FUTURE THE MATRIX
Directed by Larry Lana Wachowski and Andy Wachowski
This documentary provides an entertaining and compelling introduction to the new biology. It
shows us what the future of medicine and healthcare will look like. Abilities that conventional
science still treats as anomalies but that frontier scientists are taking seriously. It provides some of
the theories that are reshaping the study of biology, health, physiology, and medicine. It s an
ambitious film that hits the mark in introducing the general public to difficult subjects (medicine,
physics, healing) in an engaging and easy to understand way.
The film is captivating in its content, presentation and flow, working from personal stories of
healing that defies conventional explanation to mainstream medical and scientific knowledge to
frontier theories and explanations. It leads us on a journey into the body that many people may find
both surprising and changing, taking us beyond the cells to the bioenergetics and bio informational
fields that may actually regulate the body and its systems at its deepest, most fundamental level. ...

The Video Of Obama s 2008 Election Speech
Could Smell like this commercial first aired right before the 2010 Super bowl, and ended up
going viral. In fact, it became so popular that it ended up gaining more YouTube views than the
video of Obama s 2008 election speech within the first 24 hours of their postings. Additionally,
since the release of the commercial, there has been a 300% increase in traffic to the Old Spice
website, and Old Spice now has the most viewed sponsored YouTube channel. About the
Commercial, since it s a means of propaganda, there is a high amount of sensationalism in the
text. For example, the gradual transition from the ordinary (a man stepping out of the shower), to
the bizarre (a shirtless man riding a horse on a beach), helps emphasize the fact that everything is
possible with Old Spice. Overall, the text is very persuasive not because of its reasonable logic, but
because of its emotion driven hyperbole that appeals to the audiences sense of humor. Evaluation
Hello, ladies, look at your man, now back to me, now back at your man, now back to me. Sadly,
he isn t me, but if he stopped using ladies scented body wash and switched to Old Spice, he could
smell like he s me. As the commercial begins, the man specifically addresses the women. He first
builds his ethos by asking the women to compare their men to himself, in which case, the men in
the audience fall short. After building his credibility, he then creates an argument. The Major
Premise being that the men in the audience do not

King Herold Research Paper
During the time of King Herold, there was a priest named Zechariah. He belonged to the priestly
division of Abijah and his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron. They were righteous
and they observed all of the Lord s commandments and decrees. Elizabeth was childless because
she was not able to conceive, and they were both old. An angel of the Lord, Gabriel, appeared to
him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense and when Zechariah saw him, he was afraid
and fearful. The angel said told him to not be afraid and that his prayer has been heard and
Elizabeth will bear a son, and they were to name him John. Zechariah asked the angel of Godthat
how can he be sure of this and told the angel that he was an old man and his wife is well in years.

Then they realized that he was unable to speak and that there was a vision in the temple when
Zechariah kept making signs to them. After this, his wife Elizabeth became pregnant and for five
months she stayed away from other people. In the sixth month of Elizabeth s pregnancy, God sent
Gabriel to Mary and told her that she was highly favored and that the Lord is with her. Then the
angel told her to not be afraid and that she will conceive and give birth to a son, whom they will
name Jesus. Mary ask the angel how this will be as she is a virgin. The angel told her about
Elizabeth and that no word from God will every fail. Mary hurried to a town in the hill country
of Judea and she enters into the home of Zechariah greeted Elizabeth. When she heard Mary s
greeting, the baby leaped in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. Then, Mary
sings a song that praises God and stays with Elizabeth for another three months and returns home.
It was time for Elizabeth to have her baby and when she gave birth, her neighbors and relatives

As a prerequisite for Culture Interview Assignment for my Sociology class, I interviewed Xolo Thulani Msomi, a sophomore at Westminster College on the 1st of February 2016. He comes from the Zulu culture, a South African Culture. Xolo grew up in a small family his parents and his older brother. Xolo traveled to India for his high school, where the students came from 60 different nations and lived there for two years. Not only Indian culture, but Xolo also got exposed to other 60 different cultures from all over the world which provided him with an opportunity to understand and have perspectives on various cultural values and ways of life. However, I have only gathered the information about Zulu Culture through the detailed interview. Zulu culture emphasis on the needs, wants and desire of the people of the society. It is an ancient and popular culture practiced by the people of South Africa. People in this culture are defined by the community values who believe that everyone has to work together to live a healthy and happy life together as a community. In Zulu culture, being a patriarchy society, marriages happen on the men side, and the women move to their husband s house. Although the men are held in the higher stream with some privileges, the people of Zulu culture believe in the equality between the men and women of the society. Women in this culture are respected and protected and are given praise be understanding that without them you cannot continue without ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Nietzshean And Marx s Influence On Demian Nietzshean And Marx s Influence On Demian The novel Demian is highly influenced by some of Nietzsche s and Marx s ideas. Demian is an important character that displays Nietzschean qualities of the overman (Nietzsche 125). With his meeting with Sinclair, Demian put the seeds of doubt in Sinclair s mind about conception of truth and the will of power that are both concepts found in Nietzsche s work. Demian also resembles Nietzsche s character of Zarathustra and how he believes the importance of creating new set of values. The resemblance with Marx is Demian s and Sinclair s belief that we should seek answers within ourselves and not from a metaphysical world. Hermann Hesse s book gets its title from his very important character Demian. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, they believe that the traditional values need to be re evaluated through their journey to self education. The man who breaks their table of values, the breaker, the lawbreaker, yet he is the creator. (Thus Spoke Zarathustra 135). In this extract, Nietzsche introduces the relation between destruction and creation. The creation of new values could only be possible if the creation of a new god takes place. Unlike Nietzsche, Hesse did not transmit the message that religion was something to avoid and completely destruct. Demian and Sinclair still want to believe in a superior figure, but a new one that has different values than the Abrahamic god. We can think of the name as referring to something like a deity whose symbolic task is to unite the divine and the satanic (Hesse 75). • 4. Summary Of Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets The book I read was Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, written by J.K. Rowling. The story takes place at Hogwarts, a school of witchcraft and wizardry. Harry Potter is a student at Hogwarts, and Ron and Hermione are his best friends. The main focus was a secret chamber hidden in the school, that has been opened and was opened years before. There were attacks on the students by a basilisk snake, which was put there by an evil wizard named Voldemort. Harry, Ron, and Hermione kept searching for clues to find out how the attacks were happening until they were lead right to the answer. Over all, the book was a good story and was very exciting and creative. The story begins when Dobby, a small house elf, warns Harry about something bad in Hogwarts. Something bad did happen. It was the chamber. It was being opened and attacks were coming from it. Harry was trying to figure out who was planning the attacks, what was in the chamber, and who opened it. Harry, Hermione, and Ron made assumptions about who opened it before, and tried to figure out who it was by making potions, spying, and talking to different people about it. They often met in the girls prefects bathroom to talk. Once when they were in there making a potion to get ideas out of people, they came across a magical diary by a person named Tom Riddle. Harry figured out how to work the magic diary and was told that his friend Poole2 and the professor of magical creatures, Hagrid opened the chamber before, but the diary ... • 5. Southern Ocean Sanctuary In an ever expanding world where resource scarcity is discussed in side conversations and overpopulation is being combatted by concerned nations, worldwide struggle of equal allocation of vital resources persist. Biological resources and biodiversity in general are at the forefront of these concerns. Decreasing biodiversity does not just pose a problem for the plants and animals that are becoming increasingly endangered; individuals who have constructed their livelihood around the availability of such resources face dire circumstances as scarcity arises. The greater the variety of abundant plant and animal species present in the world, the greater the potential opportunity, opportunities such as medical discoveries and newfound scientific knowledge that increase the sustainability of life on Earth. However, tragedy of the commons, has led to overuse of biological resources across the globe, throwing the issue of sustainability into question. While species extinction is a natural process in the world ecosystem, the rate at which it has increased is not. In the past 65 million years the rate of extinction has gone from one to five species per year to roughly 1,000 to 10,000 times that rate (Diversity, 2013, pg. 1). This is no longer a matter of natural selection; this is a matter of ineffective resource regulation worldwide. Despite extensive amounts of environmental legislation actively in place, specie scarcity will continue to grow. The greatest challenge now ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Health And Patient Education For Diabetic Foot Care Population Health and patient education for diabetic foot care Generally our population sees diabetes as a disease for people that can t eat sugar, but, those with diabetes know it comes with some life changing events. Diabetes effects an estimated 29.1 million Americans each day. Diabetes develops in one of two forms, Type one and Type two. Type one is insulin dependent diabetes, where the body lacks production of insulin (Ignatavicius Workman, 2013). Type two diabetics are insulin resistant, affecting mostly adults (Ignatavicius Workman, 2013). Diabetes is a chronic illness that accounts for many comorbidities and complications to those suffering from the disease. Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death from conditions including, hypertension, dyslipidemia, cardiovascular disease, heart attacks, stroke, blindness, kidney disease, and amputations (American Diabetes Association, 2016). Management of these complications can occur with proper education, health promotion, and prevention from the patient. Foot care and ulcer prevention can reduce or eliminate complications suffered by diabetics; leading to infections requiring hospitalization and the most serious amputations. Teaching this population or any population about their healthcare needs and requirements can be difficult. Establishing the best way to education will be explored within this paper. Throughout this paper the author will take a look at daily foot care and prevention of ulcers. The paper will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Determine The Identity Of An Unknown Weak Acid Lab Report Determining the Identity of an Unknown weak acid (Vernier) Formal Lab Report Kelli McWatters August 7, 2017 Chem 1121 Dr. Reed Objective: Observe and measure a weak acid neutralization and determine the unknown identity of an unknown acid by titration. Introduction: Within an acid base titration the titration curve resembles the strengths of the corresponding acids and bases. A strong acid will correspond with a weak conjugate base, and a weak conjugate acid will correspond with a strong base. This is based on the Bronsted Lowry model. The weak acid will donate protons to the hydroxide ion. Weak acids will have a low Ka value, the Ka value is the tendency of the acid to dissociate: Ka= [H+] [A ] [HA] Ka is the acid dissociation constant and [HA] is the concentration of the weak acid . Strong acids usually completely dissociate and has a Ka value greater than 1. Weak acids don t dissociate completely and have a Ka value much smaller than 1. pKa values are often used for weak acids due to being able to work with whole numbers pKa = log Ka During a titration the pH of the solution will be monitored using a pH meter from that we get a titration curve. The titration curve is then used to determine the equivalent molecular weight and Ka value of the unknown weak acid, from that we are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Subsequently these dendritic cells move towards lymph node (Altfeld and Gale Jr, 2015) and alert the immune cells about the virus. For early stage of HIV infection, the innate response can play a vital role in preventing mucosal transmission before HIV infection is established. The necessary elements of innate immunity are called Natural killer (NK) which can also be stated as CD3 CD56+ lymphocytes. They help to communicate between dendritic cells and T cells. The main roles of NK cells are to control the chronic HIV infection and in HIV defense (Anon, 2017). While the viral replication is restricted by immune response, adaptive immune system is activated to fight against the virus. Adaptive immune systems are antigen specific immune response and are more complex than innate. They recognize the antigen first and create a mass of immune cells which are specially designed to attack that antigen. If the same type of antigen attacks on future, they also include a memory for more efficient. The body triggers two types of adaptive immunity, if HIV infection invades the target cell. • 9. Blended Family Essay A blended family is when two people enter a marriage when they have children from a previous relationship. These families have been termed blended families because the two new spouses and the children are attempting to blend into one family unit. Blended families are commonly known as step families. Some other terms for blended families are reconstituted, restructured, and remarried families. Blended families are starting to become the most common type of familyin the United States. It can be hard to determine the exact number of blended families in existence, but data from 2009 showed there are around 5.3 million children living with a step parent. One problem which faces blended families is that they evaluate their success as a family based on nuclear family patterns. Blended families are very different from the nuclear families and when members of a blended family attempt to structure their family in accordance with a nuclear family, they experience culture shock (Strong Cohen 2014). The differences between the two family types needs to be accepted, and then a blended family can be successful. In this paper, the relationships between family members will be examined including gender differences, the communication between them, and the boundaries they establish. The paper will also go into the educational problems step children tend to have. In a blended family, stepfathers and stepmothers have different relationships with their children than biological parents do. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a person new to a managerial role, Hill s advice in the article on learning through everyday experience by making mistakes is extremely reassuring. Within the article, Hill elaborates on the misconception that managers wield significant authority (Hill, 2007, p.3). Once new managers have made it to the top, it is important for them to realize they were just in their subordinates position. Yes, sometimes it can be difficult to even think of anything good when having a lousy day, but looking for the good in things is always the right answer. There will always be a way out of a crisis in some way, so the best way to spend the time is to count your blessings and dwell on the positive. Like Anne Frank and Sophie Scholl, their response to conflict affected many people in the process. People can best respond to conflict by staying positive, because the situation can only get worse by having a bad attitude. It s a fair assumption to assume that the world, especially the United States, is obsessed with being healthy. From celebrity workout programs to expensive diet systems that make people lose weight, being fit is always what s mainly focused on in the media, daily life, and nationwide. But with obsessions, come unhealthy actions and interests. Most people that anyone knows is most likely upset with some aspect of themselves. On top of this, there are also restrictions and challenges that come with eating a healthy diet that seem simply irradical to address, and unhealthier foods are more available than ever. With these slowly arising issues, anyone would think the nation is making it hard for themselves to be healthy. The society the nation lives in is making it progressively harder and harder to be healthy because of the lifestyles that are easier to achieve. The solution is that while they were cruel, they set up central government, which was a safe haven for the people. The Trials And Tribulations Of Racism The most important theme in this book was the trials and tribulations of racism because it was woven in every part of the plot, it contributed to the conflict and resolutions, and gave the story a connection to current events, helping the reader s comprehension. Each twist and turn of the story had hints of association with the struggles of racism. From the trial in court to the discovery of the body to the flashbacks of back stories of the characters, this theme was delicately integrated. In Kabuo Miyamoto s situation, the court was harsh on his case, and he couldn t get himself a very good lawyer, as no one would offer to defend the enemy . They were quick to jump to conclusions. He got hit pretty hard with something fairly flat, Art. Puts me in mind of a type of gun butt wound I saw a few times in the war. One of those kendo strikes the Japs used. Also, even though the Japanese are a main part of the story, they were portrayed as isolated and reclusive. They were very cold to other people, a result of a mindset of superiority. As they only associated with others of their race, they were untrusting and distant from others. Kabuo didn t even trust the lawyer who was to keep him out of prison. As the book switches time frames, there were subtle or evident signs of challenges of racial tension everywhere. You could see how this theme had effects on everything in a slightly different manner, depending on the situation. Many of the conflicts in the book were based off ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Ernesto Quinonez s The Conversation Through Storytelling... Ernesto Quinonez s novel is very influential and gives insight into the harsh reality of being a minority in America. Quinonez also speaks on the history of the Latino culture and the life experiences. The fabricated stories based on true events, affected Latinos as well as other nationalities. This book has served its purpose and is speaking to families, friends, wives, husbands, and children on being aware and conscious of the reality that surrounds them. This novel amazed me with the political and historical content surrounding the Latino community, and it is extremely powerful as it shows independence in its own culture. The novel uses its content to bring awareness of Latino ethnic identity, their way of life, and defines social factors from within. (Barajas 2014) Ernesto Quinonez sparks the conversation through storytelling using testimonials that transcends to others, guiding their natives through these circumstances and strengthening their communities. Other Latino writers, such as Cornell West and Susan Willis (both Latino writers), used their literature as a platform to showcase the uniqueness of Latino ethnicity in the United States as well as expose the division between Puerto Ricans and Americanized Puerto Ricans. (Barajas 2014) The novel shows equality and gives the reader information on hardships experienced by Latinos without a show of feelings or complaint. During the Constitutional Convention, the delegates proposed that 40,000 citizens should be represented by one congressional district. However, George Washington intervened and argued that 40,000 was too high, and reasoned that 30,000 was more reasonable and allow people to be represented adequately Washington s proposal was incorporated in Article One, Section Two of the Constitution which states representatives shall be apportioned among the several States according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each State. While the number of representatives did increase throughout the history of the United States, the number has been set at 435 members since 1929. • 36. Use Of Force And Police Brutality Abstract The unnecessary use of force use the police officers is referred to as police use of excessive force and police brutality. Both excessive force and police brutality involve physical contact with a law enforcement officer with a citizen or civilian. Physical contact and police brutality can both lead to death. It is entirely within the police officer discretion the type of force to use during an arrest. Maybe a police officer s cannot handle making the correct judgment call, or perhaps having too much power affects their ability to perform their job effectively. This behavior has to stop, police brutality needs to end today. Society distrust for police has gotten worse over the years. The police need to rebuild the trust again in America. Police brutality is a growing epidemic. According to Statics, (2015) in the United States, a police officer takes the life of a citizen every 7 hours. In 2015, there were 1,307 people who lost their lives at the hands of a police officer or law enforcement official. In 2016, that number was 1,152. Although lower, both years are still higher than the 1,149 people who were killed by police in 2014. (Fatal Encounters/Mapping Police Violence) Whereas, 69% of the victims of police brutality in the United States who are African American/Black were suspected of a non violent crime and were unarmed. (Mapping Police Violence) Consequently, the police officers are indicted in less than 1% of killings, but the indictment rate for civilians involved in a killing is 90%. As a result, police officers do not have a set of laws that apply to them. Since police brutality is high, society now distrusts law enforcement because of their higher rate of police brutality. In order to regain the trust of society, police brutality must STOP or maybe the police community relationship beyond repair. Presently, the duties of a police officer, also known as a law enforcement officer, focus on protecting people and property. Science-Fiction Films During The 1950 s The science fiction film genre serves as an excellent medium for examining shifting power structures, social paranoia and Cold War politics during the 1950s. A number of films released during this period, including: Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951), Them (1954) and Attack of the 50ft Woman (1958), are particularly symptomatic of the social and political atmosphere of the time. These films navigate not only narrative based issues such as the threat of aliens and science experiments gone wrong; but also wider issues of the time, such as the Cold War, changes in the US filmindustry, urbanisation, politics, the growing power of women and most significantly, social concern about nuclear energy. Before analysing individual science fiction films from the 1950s, it is important to gain a clear understanding of the social, cultural and political background against which these films were set. Paranoia is a term frequently used to describe an acute, anxiety dominated medical condition (Paranoia, 2009), however in the context of 1950 s America, this term can be used more accurately to describe the general, delusionary mood of the nation. The first important event that influenced a paranoiac filmmaking atmosphere was the Cold War. • 42. Theme Of Friendship In The Outsiders A Story About Friendship, Courage, and Empathy The functions of intellect are insufficient and useless if you are without courage, love, friendship, compassion, and empathy, says a quote by Dean Koontz. Throughout S.E. Hinton s book The Outsiders, there are many themes that she conveys in the book as she narrates the experiences of a greaser named Ponyboy who is a member of the Social group (Socs). Ponyboy meets many people and witnesses many difficult situations throughout the book. This inspirational book teaches the reader crucial lessons that are very important for everyone, even if their lives are not anything like Ponyboy s. Three important themes in the book include friendship, courage and empathy. Friendship is mandatory to be able to trust and rely on one another. Hinton writes about troubles that Ponyboy goes through and how his friends have a great impact on these experiences. For example, Johnny killed Bob who was a member of the Socs, because he saw that Bob along with other Socs were trying to drown Ponyboy. He knew that he d be in trouble, and he could have just left then and there. Instead, he killed Bob because they were hurting Ponyboy. Another situation where the author shows the theme of friendship is when Ponyboy got jumped and his whole gang came to help him. They were always ready to help a member of their group. Also, the situation when the church was on fire and Dally went to try and save Johnny, shows friendship as well. In chapter 6, Jerry, who Ponyboy thinks is one of the school s teachers, says, We think the towheaded kid is going to be all right. He burned one arm pretty badly, though, trying to drag the other kid out of the window, (pg. 95). This tells us that Dally, who at first wouldn t help the children in the church, helped Johnny get out because he was his friend and he cared about him. This shows how Dally demonstrates his friendship. Courage is crucial to be able to overcome obstacles and help others. Courage is a big theme in The Outsiders. For example, Ponyboy showed a lot of courage when he decided to fight in the rumble. He wasn t in good shape as he had lost weight and was very tense. To start with, Pixar has an amazing way of hiding morals in its movies, the spectacular thing about that is that kids will be learning without even realizing it. Toy Story has a main Character named Woody and his role is to take care of the rest of the toys in the room, kind of as the mayor. This seemed to work well but when a new toy comes to town he feels like his dominance is threatened and basically goes primal trying to get rid of him by running him over with the RC car. This shows how unhealthy jealousy really is when everyone else didn t care that he was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Psycho Essay Psycho When asked what they remember from the original Psycho, most people would say that the shower scene was the part of the film that they remembered most. In this essay I will be analysing this famous scene but from the remake directed by Gus Van Sant. The remake of the film, created in the nineteen ninety s, has many differences from the sixties version. This is advantageous to the production. Examples of this are the use of colour and modern camera techniques that can be used to create tension, fear, anxiety, and psychological horror. A result of the use of modern camera techniques is that the director can diversify the camera shots which allows the audience to seemingly see through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This uneasiness is also caused by the fact that Marian is in her dressing gown and in her bedroom. This makes the audience feel intrusive and involved, they are also aware of the vulnerability of Marian at this point in the film. The audience watch her tare up the paper which is used to write her repayment sums on, which, to the audience is seen as evidence of her crime and if it was found she would be caught. This representation of her crime is presented to the audience as it illustrates evidence of her crime which again implements the audience in her criminal activities because they have witnessed the crime and the evidence. This makes the audience feel almost guilty but also anxious to be so involved with Marian and the emotions are magnified as the audience empathise with her. Marian Crane gets up out of her chair as she destroys the evidence but instead of moving to another shot Van Sant uses the same camera to pan across the room and follow her. The camera shows a shot that encroaches on Marian as it is very close to her all of the time. It is intended to make the viewer feel very uncomfortable as they see the whole thing through the eyes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The villain is what causes the problem, and makes up the entire story. So even though there have been many unique, grueling villains throughout time, to memorable ones are the White Witch, the villain from the book The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, and Calypso, a beautiful but evil woman from The Odyssey. But when these two vile women are compared, the White Witch has the coldest heart of the two for many reasons. It is true that Calypso is obviously a villain because she is greedy, selfish, and holds people captive, but she is an empty cupboard when it comes to one very... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The White Witch tries to take over Narnia and casts an eternal winter over the magical land.To start off, The White Witch is a greater villain than Calypso because she is greedy. According to the text, Then you will know that the boy belongs to me. (turns to crowd) That boy (points to Edmund) will die on the Stone Table (The Chronicles of Narnia Episode I, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe). This shows that the White Witch is a greater villain than Calypso because while Calypso did show she was greedy when not wanting to give up Odysseus, The White Witch was greedy in taking an innocent boy, and killing him.Equally fascinating, The White Witch is an obviously greater villain than Calypso because she is selfish. Stated in the text, I m kidnapping you. It s the White Witch, the one that makes it always winter, and never Christmas (The Chronicles of Narnia Episode I, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe). This shows that the White Witch is a greater villain than Calypso because while she is making everyone miserable in not celebrating Christmas, Calypso is only not understanding men. • 50. The Video Of Obama s 2008 Election Speech Could Smell like this commercial first aired right before the 2010 Super bowl, and ended up going viral. In fact, it became so popular that it ended up gaining more YouTube views than the video of Obama s 2008 election speech within the first 24 hours of their postings. Additionally, since the release of the commercial, there has been a 300% increase in traffic to the Old Spice website, and Old Spice now has the most viewed sponsored YouTube channel. About the Commercial, since it s a means of propaganda, there is a high amount of sensationalism in the text. For example, the gradual transition from the ordinary (a man stepping out of the shower), to the bizarre (a shirtless man riding a horse on a beach), helps emphasize the fact that everything is possible with Old Spice. Overall, the text is very persuasive not because of its reasonable logic, but because of its emotion driven hyperbole that appeals to the audiences sense of humor. Evaluation Hello, ladies, look at your man, now back to me, now back at your man, now back to me. Sadly, he isn t me, but if he stopped using ladies scented body wash and switched to Old Spice, he could smell like he s me. As the commercial begins, the man specifically addresses the women. He first builds his ethos by asking the women to compare their men to himself, in which case, the men in the audience fall short. After building his credibility, he then creates an argument. The Major Premise being that the men in the audience do not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
