Benefits of Organic Food
The Benefits of Organic Food Draft #1 Organic food, once only found in health food stores, is now a
consistent element at local supermarkets. So what is the difference between a conventionally grown
apple and an organic one? The answer is in the way the crop is grown and what it is and is not exposed
to.
In order to be labeled organic the farmer who grew it used renewable resources and conservation of
soil and water methods. Also, organic farmers do not use conventional pesticides or weed killers,
which may contain synthetic ingredients or sewage sludge. According to Fisher, Sewage sludge from
municipalities waste may contain heavy metals and toxins . . . (1). Rather, organic farmers use
sophisticated crop rotations, spread mulch and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Compacted soil can result in soil that is unable to create a run off surface. If this happens, the water
will be unable to seep into the soil and irrigate the crop. Tractors passing over soil can cause this
compaction to occur, which is why tilling is a more effective way to stir up the soil. And as a bonus,
tilling can help get rid of weeds, so it is a win win.
Pesticides and preservatives are not only harmful to human beings, but they are also harmful to our
environment and ecosystems. Pesticides used in organic farming may run off and contaminate nearby
bodies of water. If enough contaminated run off from pesticides and artificial fertilizers get into water,
it is able to poison animals and fish that live there. According to Raloff, recent studies have
demonstrated that exposure to hormones has a substantial effect on the gender and reproductive
capacity of fish, throwing off the natural cycle, (1). This is not only harmful to the animals that live
there, but if enough fish are dying because of poisoned run off, the fish industry could suffer and it
will affect humans as well. The same chemicals that poison bodies of water could seep into our
groundwater and affect the well water we drink and use daily. This does not happen with organic
farming, because no chemicals are ever sprayed on the fields and there is much more run off because
of tilling practices.
Organic farming does not only include crops. There is also organic eggs and meat produced by
livestock

The Importance Of Stereotypes In Maya Angelou s Poetry
Maya Angelou s poetry supports female defiance of stereotypes. The poem Phenomenal Woman
presents a female speaker who defies stereotypes in multiple ways. First, the speaker notes that she
lacks traditional aspects of female beauty, though still has power to draw men to her through her
womanhood and sexuality, as previously discussed. Secondly, the speaker, who can be assumed to be
Angelou, places men on their knees, in positions of servility to her, which contrasts the usual
patriarchal scenario with a woman subject to a man (18). Also, when describing her immediate effect
on a crowded room the speakers says, Then they swarm around me, / A hive of honey bees. Her
metaphor compares men to a hive of honey bees, an unflattering ... Show more content on

The same position appears in, Shoulders falling down like teardrops, which uses a simile to describe a
physical position of the speaker diminishing herself through comparison to falling tears (15). The
image of tears falling adds to the confusion and shock of the speaker when she considers that a man
would prefer her in this state. The speaker rhetorically asks the oppressors, likely male and white
given Angelou s background, if they prefer her with a broken spirit and lack of confidence, implying
that the speaker will not give up and give the male oppressor the power over her that he wants. Such
defiance of patriarchal stereotypes marks Angelou s feminism in her

The Effect Of Political Changes On Egyptian Economy
Abstract
This research aims at studying the effect of political changes on Egyptian economy by studying the
direct and indirect effect of political risk index and its sub indicators on number of important variables
such as economic growth, employment, exchange rates, Egyptian Exchange main index (EGX30),
foreign investment flows, domestic interest rates, and domestic public debt during the time period
from 2006 to 2015 using parametric and nonparametric statistical methods. The study concluded that
political risk index and its sub indicators have had varying effects on financial and real investment and
other macroeconomic variables in Egypt; and that achieving a successful economic development
process cannot be reachedwithouttaking into account determinants ofpolitical risk.
Keywords:sovereign spread, country risk, political risk index, and political risks sub indicators
1. Introduction
Investment decision, by itself, is not a complicated one, as once we manage to consider all aspects of
costs associated with the investment decision and to estimate its expected returns, there will be no
difficulty to make a proper decision regarding the proposed investment. The main problem in making
any investment decision is the ability to consider all aspects of costs that the investment will expose
to. Investment costs can be divided into tangible and intangible costs. Where tangible costs classified
as constructional and operational costs; intangible costs include opportunity cost and

Comparing Frost And Reagan s Speech By Robert Frost
Both Frost s poem and Reagan s speech deal with the theme d separation. Frost discussed two
neighbors who are separated by a stone wall. The narrator speaks of his dislike for this stone wall. In
Reagan s speech he talks of the Berlin Wall dividing East and West Berlin. These two both emphasize
how the physical barriers created emotional ones.
Building physical and emotional walls has a negative impact on the people, countries, and
civilizations they divide. In the case of Frost s poem, the wall took away the narrator s voice. The
narrator disliked the wall, but was too timid to speak up for what he believes in. His neighbor says
good walls make good neighbors, but the narrator felt as if the wall should be torn down, and they
should unite

Skinner s View On Psychology And The Contrasting Views Of...
Introduction
This essay will explore B. F. Skinner s view on the focus of psychology and the contrasting view of
the mentalists. It will then go on to consider the benefits of Skinners way of seeing psychology and
thus how he was able to turn psychology into a science with measurable outcomes and bring evidence
into a subject that had become subjective and unquantifiable.
Purpose of Psychology
Skinner stated that the purpose of psychology should be the study of behaviour. He had come to this
conclusion whilst performing studies on rats. (Skinner, 1938).
Mentatlistic approach
Prior to skinner the pervading view of behaviour within psychology was concerned with thoughts and
inner feelings that were thought to directly cause behaviour.(Cooper, Heron, Heward, 2007)
Skinner thought that the study of psychology had remained unchanged for centauries and that the
subject had made virtually no progress.(Skinner, 1973)
He believed that behaviour should be studied in a scientific way rather than an introspective way.
Natural Science
Behaviour Psychology or Biology D M (1)
(Blackman, 1991) puts the case forward that the study of behaviour should come under the subject of
biology rather than psychology on the grounds that behaviour occurs naturally when consequences are
applied. Skinner had said a similar thing himself in (1963) when he considered the choice of the
placement of behaviour in the scheme of things. He said that if the mind was going to be the subject

Investigating How Different Components Of A Motor Affects...
1.0 Introduction
The purpose of this Extended Experimental Investigation is to present a formal scientific report on
motors after researching, designing and conducting experiments to investigate how different
components of a motor affects its performance capabilities and how these can be changed to produce a
better motor. The information should be researched and understood to provide evidence for your
knowledge of the task. What is a Motor?
Motors are everywhere, the power almost everything we use, from kitchen supplies to our automobiles
and transport even to kinds toys, they are the essence of putting an object into motion. Most motors
consist of the same various items needed to for it to work, magnets, coils of wire, and a power supple.
Whilst in the process of discovering what a motor is the desired motor to be used for this investigation
is a simple DC motor were a power supply is used to power the motor to start to spin unlike some
other motors like in cars where they rely on all other forms of injections for it to power such a large
object. An el
ectric motor is all about magnets and magnetism: A motor uses magnets to create motion.
Electric motors involve rotating coils of wire which are driven by the magnetic force exerted by a
magnetic field on an electric current. They transform electrical energy into mechanical energy
(Internet 1). As a simple motor will be created, the design of how to create this can be seen in figure

Saving innocent people and exposing the bad guys is what heroes do. Bradley Manning did just that
when he leaked United States government cables and videos to WikiLeaks. His intent was to expose
the killing of innocent civilians as part of the Iraqi war and to inform citizens so that they could take
action. He is now imprisoned and facing twenty two felony counts, all of which incriminate him as a
traitor to the U.S. and that could result in him serving fifty two years behind bars. Manning believed
that the U.S. government was committing war crimes and that the world should know about the

Manning was identified as the individual who leaked the horrifying Collateral Murder video, widely
distributed and viewed on the Internet, in which several innocent Iraqis as well as two Reuters
journalists are gunned down by a U.S. Apache helicopter. The trove of information leaked also
contained The Iraq War Logs and Afghan War Diary (Lucas). The Iraqi War Logs and the Afghan War
Diary are a compilation of documents about the cover up of information pertaining to civilians
tortured and killed by international forces (Karhula). The documents released include both classified
and unclassified documents. The released information show evidence of clear war crimes and torture
of which the U.S. had full knowledge (Madar 2). Manning s actions were not rewarded as those of a
patriot whistleblower but treated as those of a war time spy or criminal. The twenty two charges, the
most serious of which is aiding the enemy who was identified by the prosecution in his case as Al

protection against reprisals as a result of disclosing evidence of improper or illegal activities on the
part of the federal government (Whitaker 2). Consequently, persons disclosing the information should
be protected. The law covers military employees that have a reasonable suspicion that a violation of

Determining G on an Incline Essay
Determining g on an Incline
Lab #1
Theory: During the early part of the seventeenth century, Galileo experimentally examined the
concept of acceleration. One of his goals was to measure the acceleration due to gravity, or the
acceleration of freely falling objects. Unfortunately, his timing devices were not precise enough to
measure the free fall time directly. He decided to dilute gravity by using fluids, inclined planes, and
pendulums.
Galileo s idea of diluting gravity using inclined planes worked like this: the acceleration of a rolling
cart on an inclined plane is small, therefore is easy to measure; when the angle of the incline gets
bigger, the acceleration will get bigger; by measuring the dependence of the acceleration on ... Show

Using Vernier, we clicked collect while releasing the cart after motion detector starts to click. This was
done moving the hand quickly out the path. Using logger pro, indicated which portion was to be used
by dragging across the graph to indicate the starting and ending times. Then the linear button was
clicked to perform the linear regression of the selected data. The Linear Button was used to determine
the slope of the velocity vs. time graph, only using the portion of the data for times when the cart was
freely rolling. We found the acceleration of the cart from the fitted line. Record the value in the data
table. These steps where repeated 5 mores times. Measured the length of the incline, x which is the
distance between the two points of the ramp. Measure the height, h, the height of the book(s). The last
two measurements was used determine the angle of the incline. Raise the incline by placing a second
book under the end. Adjust the book so that distance, x, is the same as the previous reading. Repeated
these steps with 3, 4 and 5 books.
ANALYSIS DATA
The greater the incline and greater the height, the greater the acceleration of the cart. This experiment
measured the acceleration of a cart moving down a sloped track in order to find a relation between the
acceleration of an object and the sine of the angle at which it is moving. There were three separate
experimental stages, with the variable being the angle at which the

The Use Of Satire And Humor Is A Vital Function Of Our...
Satire and Humor is a Vital Function of our Society Humor and satire is an entertaining and extremely
effective method for highlighting social ideologies, challenging a governmental system or an
organization, exposing injustice, and encouraging positive change in perspective. In his book, Status
Anxiety, Alain de Botton asserts that humorists are a vital part of society as they are always successful
in communicating, conveying, and delivering their message or idea to the public and the community.
Humorists and satirists have demonstrated their vital role in inspiring freedom of speech and thought,
which motivates progressive changes, in political election campaigns hosted on TV almost daily, and
in Mark Twain s satire of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Comedians occasionally and
intentionally use offensive and insulting comments to get their message across, however, these
statements normally include protected opinions and beliefs about certain issues and global topics. By
orally speaking or writing their ideas and beliefs, satirists and comedians act as an example for the

Churchill And Operation Catapult
Put differently, Churchill tried diplomacy first with France and then indirectly through the U.S. Both
strategies serve as indications of Churchill s push to get the result he wanted. Nevertheless, the lack of
success with diplomatic efforts did not deter Churchill. It only drove him to devise a more forceful,
violent tactic: Operation Catapult. The conditions of Operation Catapult demonstrate that Churchill
carried out the attack at Mers el Kébir because he assumed Germany had plans to take the French
Fleet. All of the options included in the ultimatum that Britain gave France, including the threat to use
force, centered on keeping the French Fleet away from Germany. To demonstrate, one of the
conditions demanded that France permit the fleet

On Laziness By Christopher Morley Summary
Generally, lazy people are not admired. Society, as a whole, prefers those who are willing and able to
actively and positively contribute to its progress. Effort is praised while indifference can typically be
seen as shameful. Christopher Morley understands this. In his short essay, On Laziness, he indirectly
confronts the slothful in an effort to make them see the error of their ways. Morley deals with the topic
of laziness in a overly sarcastic and satirical tone to stress the absurdity of the trait. Early in his essay,
Morley utilizes irony that made it evident that his essay on the supposed benefits of laziness is meant
to be treated as a satire. He in no way is actually believing what he is explicitly stating. The opening
statement can only reasonably be viewed as an intentional joke. Morley claims that he intends to write
an essay on Laziness but [is] too indolent to [even] do so. Yet, the paper does not end here; he
continues on and completes an entire academic essay, blatantly contradicting his first sentence in it. If
Morley stays true to his words and fully believes in the value of idleness, no work would have been
made to defend it. He makes the sarcasm even more obvious through his deliberate choice of words.
While criticizing activeness and energy, Morley spoke of having a determined effort to be more
languid and demure. It is paradoxical to try to be lazy. Putting in effort and making an attempt to be so
goes against its basic definition. Morley provides examples of where laziness was shown to be
virtuous. However, he purposely makes them flawed and highly debatable, forcing the slothful to
consider if there is in actuality a strong case for their behavior. Morley initially calls upon recent
history for proof. He reminds the audience of the Great War the essay being written in 1920 shortly
after it ended and declares that the world would have been spared a great deal... if the Germans had
been as lazy, as indifferent, and as righteously laissez fairish as their neighbours... This is a bold claim.
War is an atrocious ordeal whose causes are complex and cannot solely be blamed on one group of
people. Many including the toughest advocate for indolence will not support the idea that the

Alienation And What Effect It Has On Contemporary Society...
Introduction It has been argued that Karl Marx theory of alienation has lost relevance in contemporary
society when understanding the relationship of the individual worker in a capitalist society. It is this
statement being proposed by several sociologists who believe alienation being an empty statement in
relation to contemporary society. However like many other sociological concepts this one is still
contested which is why I will explore the theory of alienation and what effect it has on contemporary
society, and argue that Marx s theory of alienation still applies to the process of the owners of
production exploiting the working classes. I will start by looking into the four different dimensions of
alienation and how these relate to Marx s critique of capitalist society, then relating this concept to
modern society. the four dimensions of alienation Alienation as a definition was initially conflicted as
it has very different meanings such as the English definition defines alienation as to turn away the
feelings of someone or to transfer an individual s property Affine, Y. H. (1997). Alienation has been
described as a lack of self actualisation (ester, 1985, p. 77) which results in a non satisfaction of needs
in an individual however this is vague because there are a variety of basic human needs that need to be
satisfied. While others went further to say that alienation is when an individuals is lacking in self
worth which leads

Situational And Contingency Theories Of Leadership Training
Leadership is a subject that has gained substantial attention in pretty much every field. There have
been a number of studies done on leadership, which has resulted in a number of different theories.
Situational and Contingency are two theories that are most commonly used in leadership training.
Both fall under the contingency theory umbrella and are also commonly used interchangeable and
often consider as one theory. Situational and Contingency theory are identical but they are two very
different methods. This paper explains the concept of Situational and Contingency leadership theories
and compares and distinguishes the two theories.
Leadership
There are over 40,000 books/writings and over 10,000 research studies on leadership (Adair, 2011).
Even though there are a numerous amount of studies on the subject, there is still no real definition of
the word. In the past 60 years, as many as 65 different classification systems have been developed to
define the dimensions of leadership, (Northouse, 2013 p.4). The classifications have broken down into
4 components: 1) Leadership is a process, 2) Leadership involves influence, 3) leadership occurs in
groups, and 4) leadership involves common goals.
Leadership is a process: means that it is not a trait or characteristic that resides in the leader, but rather
a transactional event that occurs between the leader and the followers. The process implies that a
leader affects and is affected by followers. It emphasizes that leadership

Use of Customs, Dialect and Social Status
In The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County
Mark Twain s The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County is a short story with the lesson that
what goes around comes around. In this short story, which first appeared in 1856 and his first
successful story, Twain uses local customs of the time, dialect, and examples of social status in his
story to create a realistic view of the region in which the story takes place. The way that the characters
behave is very distinctive. Dialect is also used to give the reader a convincing impression of the

Twain uses local dialect throughout the story. Dialect enhances the story by painting a picture of the
surroundings, giving a deeper understanding of the characters and adding local color. The following
quotes show Twain s main purpose is using dialect, which is to emphasize the rural feel of the story s
setting. On page 1189 the narrator says He was always ready and laying for a chance; there couldn t be
no solit ry thing mentioned but that feller d offer to bet on it, and take ary side you please, as I was just
telling you. On page 1190 the narrator says, Other dogs jest by the j int of his hind leg and freeze to
it—not chaw . Smiley uses some interesting and somewhat peculiar phrases at the end of the story:
Smiley he stood scratching his head and looking down at Dan l a long time, and at last he says, ‘I do
wonder what in the nation that frog throw d off for—I wonder if there ain t something the matter with

Is Monsanto Good Or Bad
Monsanto has neglected to do their due diligence to protect the American people. Currently, they
supply a weed killer called Roundup, that is poisoning both the environment and the American people.
Monsanto is not required to disclose what ingredients are in Roundup, but one of the known
ingredients is glyphosate, a possible carcinogen. While plants may be ready for this chemical
introduction, humans are not. This chemical is potentially dangerous to people as it often ends up in
our water sources, poisoning the fish in our food chain. While the potential dangers of Roundup are
not known, that of previous Monsanto products are known. Monsanto helped to create the Atomic
bomb that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. There are no other words to describe the
outcome of that bomb but devastating. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Monsanto globalized polychlorinated biphenyl (PCBs) which are industrial coolants and also
carcinogenic pollutants. They were dumped into the air, land, and water. Previously, Monsanto also
tested the effects of their products on hundreds pregnant women. The finding of this testing was that
the chemicals caused birth defects. This just goes to show the negligence of the company. However,
despite all of this, the US government has continued to partner and support Monsanto. They have
spent millions on propaganda campaigns, in order to protect their company and in turn, protect their
profits. When scientific findings that showed degenerative diseases and birth defects arose, Monsanto
used propaganda to cover them up. While Monsanto did not take reasonable steps to ensure their
products would not cause harm, the Food and Drug Administration also did not do their due diligence

Effective Use of Montage in the Movie, The Night of the...
Effective Use of Montage in the Movie, The Night of the Hunter
A rapid succession of images or scenes that exhibits different aspects of the same idea or situation, this
is the definition of montage as provided by Encarta Encyclopedia 98. The idea of a montage of
attractions was first used by Eisenstein and Pudovkin in the 1920s for the purpose of invoking specific
emotions in the viewers. The movie The Night of the Hunter starring Robert Mitchum and Lillian
Gish makes use of this film technique.
The use of montage is apparent from the beginning of the movie. The first image we see is Mrs.
Cooper (Gish) telling children a story as they are superimposed over the night sky. The next image is a
bird s eye view of children playing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Harper.
Perhaps the longest montage of the film is the dreamlike sequence of the children, John and Pearl
floating down the river, sometimes sleeping and sometimes just staring. In between these shots we see
a variety of close ups of animals: owls, turtles, rabbits, and foxes, some prey and some predators,
hunters. We also see this animal symbolism when Mrs. Cooper is sitting on the porch with her shot
gun watching Powell. Ruby comes down with her light and when Mrs. Cooper blows the light out
Powell is gone. The next scene is that of an owl swooping down on a rabbit, the same animals we saw
in the earlier montage, giving the impression that Powell will swoop down on the children in the same
way.
While the river montage sequence evokes peaceful emotions, there are also montages in this film that
invoke tension. When Powell is chasing the children we see the camera cut between the children
trying to get into the boat and Powell attempting to get through the foliage to capture them. And later
at the end of the movie we see a rather dramatic montage with scenes of Powell being led to a police
car, an angry mob rushing down the street, and Mrs. Cooper leading the children.
There is also an ironic montage early in the film where we see the investigator kill Harper and then we
follow him home and see him with his wife and his own children, a boy and girl. There appears to be
no reason for this interaction with

Overview of Kurdistan Essay
Kurdistan is a region located between Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey. The Kurds are the biggest ethnicity
on the planet without a state to this day. This paper will focus on the Iraqi part of Kurdistan, for it has
come the closest to a state like notion as per Weber s definition. Iraqi Kurdistan is a region
characterized by many diplomatic issues due to lack of acceptance as a state. The region was
established through an autonomy agreement with Iraqi government in 1970 after decades of disputes
between the Iraqi government and the Kurds in the north. The region had already established a
government, but it lacked many characteristics that are applicable to a state. The constant conflict with
the Iraqi government has been ongoing since the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For many Kurds, the need for a free independent Kurdistan with all four parts united has not been
forgotten and will never be. Various methods and strategies have been used in the attempt to establish
an independent state, but the prevailing conditions have always been against the Kurds, until the
second Gulf War and the toppling of Saddam. This is attributed to the lack of many defining
characteristics of a state, thus Weber s notion of a state can be used to describe the prevailing
conditions within the Iraqi Kurdistan (Zunes 19). It has been a difficult struggle for Iraqi Kurdistan to
achieve legitimacy as a state due to a lack of acceptance by the international community and constant
disputes with Iraq and neighboring countries.
Notion of a state
Based on Weber s notion of a state, a state can be defined as an establishment that is legitimate and
has the power and authority over its citizenry. Moreover, it should have an influence on the internal
affairs of the state as well as the foreign. As per Weber s specific definition, a state has an imposing
business model on honest to goodness viciousness (Oslon 673) Thus, various institutions and
foundations such as the military, common administration or state organization, courts, and police
characterize the state. The citizenry should also be involved in activities within the state. An example
is private equity whereby the citizenry contributes to the state by facilitating infrastructural growth
and economic

Henry David Thoreau s In Wildness Is The Preservation Of...
Humans have adopted a need to control instead of survive creating a separation from dependence on
the wild which is the very thing we depend most on, thus resulting in destroying the wilderness and
wildness of nature. This separation is not a mere physical separation; the drive to control creates this
illusion of connection. For example, in Jack Turner s essay, In Wildness Is the Preservation of the
World, he explores this idea through analyzing Henry David Thoreau s essay Walking. Turner states
human beings no longer accept their status as part and parcel of a biological realm that is self willed,
self determined, self ordered. Instead we have divided ourselves from that realm and make every
attempt to control it for our own interest. As a society, have we have become too dependent on what
we can make in a factory or lab rather than seeking the solutions in nature? The wilderness is a place
we should use to understand ourselves and our existences, doing this we regain respect for the wild
and with that the ecosystems that sustain our lives.
What readers should understand is that wild is described by Henry David Thoreau as past participle
of: to will, self willed. In other words, self organized and the opposite of controlled. Getting to the
root of the word, wildness seemed to be the first step toward understanding how it preserves the
world. We live in a culture today that is obsessed with productivity and efficiency in an attempt to
create a false sense of

Investing Stocks and Bonds
Investing in Stocks and Bonds Stocks and Bonds are different in many ways. A stock is a portion or
share of the ownership of a corporation. A share will give the owner of the stock the company s profits
or loses over time. The good thing about stocks is they can be sold at almost any time as long as there
is someone willing to buy. A bond, on the other hand, is a fixed interest financial asset issued by
governments, companies, banks, and other large entities. Bonds also are called funds. Bonds pay the
owner a fixed amount a specific date, or on specified dates depending on the type of bond. If the bond
is a discount bond, then there is one pay date at the end. If the bond is a coupon bond, then it pays a
fixed amount over a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Characters Of Coraline And Harry Potter
Literary heroes that are also ordinary children are engaging to readers, particularly child readers.
James Pope and Julia Round write that Roald Dahl is a fascinating author in that his books for
children feature child heroes who are very often neither hero nor villain, but a wild, subversive
combination of both (258). These characteristics are also true of Coraline and Harry Potter, as they are
presented as imperfect, but ultimately find the power within themselves to save what is important to
them. Children readers are empowered by Coraline and Harry because they identify with these
ordinary children and feel as if they can also make a difference in their lives, as the characters defeat
the evil in theirs. Children are more likely to engage with characters they identify with, but when a
character is also a hero, children feel as if they themselves have the power to take agency in their own
lives. Coraline is a representation of any child that is easily bored and seeks adventure, but she also
displays bravery and heroism. Coraline s greatest strength is her imagination, which she uses to her
advantage. Most children have active imaginations as she does, and this quality that they have in
common will result in children identifying with Coraline and believing they are just as capable of
surmounting obstacles as she is. Coraline is also not perfect, and although many children like to
pretend they are perfect, they know they are not. When she loses the marble containing

choice he makes before he makes it. While he s standing at a train station he must decide between
running for his mother or staying with his father. This decision will make him live out many alternate
timelines. Mr. Nobody is currently 117 years old and tells his life story during three major moments in
his life: at age nine when his parents get divorced, age fifteen when he first falls in love, and age thirty
four when he s married and has children. Although some may find Mr. Nobody, written and directed
by Jaco Van Dormael, too strange or confusing, the captivating plot and complex themes leave the

Comparing The Prioress s Tale And The Tale Of Melibee
In The Canterbury tales by Geoffrey Chaucer, Both The Prioress Tale and The Tale of Melibee deal
with grave evils involving attacks from enemies, injustices, and tragedies. The difference between
these two stories is that The Tale of Melibee offers a better solution to the problem of evil and
injustice than the ending of The Prioress Tale . The Tale of Melibee shows not only a solution to
Melibee s problem, but also any dilemma where there is injustice. The Prioress solution to evil is
through blaming one s enemy and solving the problem through violence instead of words. In The
Prioress Tale a Christian boy is walking home from school singing, which annoyed the Jews. The Jews

In The Tale of Melibee , Melibee s daughter Sophie is severely wounded by Melibee s enemies and
Melibee is forced to choose whether or not to seek revenge. At first urged by his flatterers, Melibee
wants to go to war. Lady Prudence, Melibee s wife, reminds Melibee that he cannot let his sorrow and
anger overwhelm him and his reaction has to be proportionate to the crime. Prudence convinces
Melibee not to go to war using reason. For example she explains that Melibee s enemies are expecting
retaliation and Melibee is not prepared for a war. Melibee is drawing from the wisdom of the world
when he should be drawing from the wisdom of God. The last example of how The Tale of Melibee
offers a better solution to the problem of evil and injustice than the ending The Prioress Tale , is that in
The Tale of Melibee , they use their words to serve justice, rather than violence. Sweet words cause
friendships to multiply and increase , and make vexatious, wicked men turn kind and meek . Prudence
uses her words to help Melibee s enemies understand how horrible what they did to Sophie was. Not
only does she make peace with Melibee s enemies but she also helps others understand that words can

Essay about The American Dream Facade
If the American Dream had to be captured within a frozen image, how would the visualization be
conveyed? For the majority of today s society, the image would likely include the traditional father,
mother, and child(ren) standing pleasantly beside a moderate two story home, a well kept lawn, and
neatly trimmed hedges. In the background of this family portrait, a guarded and welcoming
neighborhood would appear, complete with similar home designs and family arrangements lining its
streets. In other words, the image of the American Dream resides within the typical American suburb.
And within this typical suburb lies (supposedly) the remaining components of the ideal American
lifestyle.

Largely a result of the lifestyles portrayed on suburban based television shows, the suburbs have
consistently been deemed the ideal environment for the ideal family of high moral standards From the
initial episodes of Leave it to Beaver in the 1950 s to the modernized episodes of Home Improvement
in the 1990 s, suburban TV sitcoms have bombarded America with images of hard working and
devoted mother/father pairs who guide their essentially normal children through the obstacles of
childhood and adolescence. As the television critic Michael V. Tueth revealed in a recent publication
of the Journal of Popular Film and Television, these television shows allowed suburbia to evolve into
the home of parental wisdom and spousal forgiveness as well as children s fantasies and nonsense
(98). Surprisingly, because America s actual suburban children record and obtain overall success
through adulthood, these television lifestyles did not seem too far fetched. Unfortunately, through
recent years, this affirmed connection between the suburbs and the perfect family environment has
become more of an intended assumption rather than a reality.
While today s society places great significance on acquiring the appearance of the traditional America
family, it places little, if any, importance on actually filling its shoes. When two teenagers

According to Alfred Rosa, concrete diction refers to words that stimulate some kind of sensory
response in the reader (Rosa 55). The description of her father sipping on mangoes allowed the reader
to feel the sensation of tasting the oozing juice of the fruit. In addition to that, her audience can also

describing the yogurt cups and her sister s Moghlai paraths. The reader can visualize what the author

Lahiri s choice of words gave an amusing effect on her readers to participate in what she sensed and

Similarities Between Martin Luther And Star Wood
Martin Luther, essentially a nobody with credentials, grew to become one of the most influential
persons in the 16th century. Though his message was fought off by the Catholic church, with the help
of the printing press and his followers, Luther s message was able to spread throughout Europe.
Similarly, taking a look at the message of may your brief candle shine brightly from Once Upon a
Timepiece by Starr Wood, both messages of history traveled through time due to the unforeseen
circumstances one calls history. By examining the choices each individual made, it is clear to see how
greed and circumstance play a deep role in both Andrew Pettegree s Brand Luther and Starr Wood s
Once Upon a Timepiece.
Brand Luther, the detailed story of how Martin Luther, a former monk, became the backbone of a
religious reformation starts off in Wittenberg: the home of maybe two thousand at the time of Luther s
arrival. Wittenberg would become known as the starting place of the reformation, but prior to Luther s
writings was a poor, unattractive town, with old, small, ugly wooden houses, more like a village than a
town (Pettegree 7). Yet ironically, with the help of Martin, Wittenberg would thrive economically due
to the printing press s success in sending and selling his every last written word all over Europe.
Though the printing press was only first established in Wittenberg in 1502, Wittenberg would become
the printing capitol of the world by 1543 (Pettegree 11).

The First Sex Experience In Rabbit, Run By John Updike
During everyone s lifetimes, we have some amazing experiences, and we also have some bad trips.
Both good and bad experiences can t be avoided. When we are on our bad trips, we may start to miss
those great things that happened before. In the book rabbit, run, John Updike talked about several run
away experiences of Harry Angstrom, a man who got married with Janice in his early twenty and
whose nickname is rabbit . Rabbit is irresponsible, so he ran away from his pregnant wife and found a
prostitute to live together. Finally, in order to escape from his responsibility of taking care of pregnant
prostitute, he ran away again. In the first night he met the prostitute, Ruth, he went to Ruth s apartment
and had sex with her. Updike described in details what happened in Rabbit s first sex experience with
Ruth, during this sex experience, without his notice, he was trying to bring his life back to the high
school when he still could control things and he also miss the time when he just got married, when he
still had a happy marriage. By Updike s describing, Rabbit wants to get back the control of his life and
starts to miss the wonderful life he used to have with Janice. Rabbits feels difficult to accept the huge
gap between Rabbit s high school life and his latest life experience, and this leads him to run away and
want to find control on somebody else. As Updike wrote before, Rabbit was a high school basketball

Satire in “The Importance of Being Earnest” by Oscar Wilde...
A satire is a piece of work that is designed to ridicule or tease a group or organization, generally for
the purpose of being humorous. The Importance of Being Earnest, a play by Oscar Wilde, is a satire,
ridiculing class, gender, and marriage. This essay will describe some points from each of these
sections, as well as give a brief synopsis of the play these examples come from. The Importance of
being Earnest includes three acts, with seven major characters. In act one, we start with a conversation
between Jack (a notable bachelor) and Algernon (an in debt bachelor, with a laid back temperament),
in which we learn both have made up friends, who are often sick, as to escape from wherever they live
whenever they want. We also learn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gwendolyn and Cecily act as friends until they learn that they are supposedly engaged to the same
person. Then they learn neither of them are engaged to anybody named Ernest, and are friends again.
In act three, we discover Jacks history, including that he is Algernon s elder brother. In the end, despite
several lies, arguments, and much turmoil, everybody gets married. There are many examples of satire
referring to class. One of the first is the fact that the side of the street you live on affects how
fashionable you are. This is an example of satire because it is not true, and is ridiculing high class
people by pointing out how shallow that they can be. Another example is the statement that sugar is a
low class food item. This is a satire for the same reason as the first example. A third example of class
related satire is that high class people always talk about other peoples business. This ridicules high
class people for being churlish and not allowing for other peoples privacy. In all, Earnest points out
how snobbish and shallow Mr. Wilde thought high class people are. There are also many examples of
gender based satire. The first of these is that only men can have a Bunburry. This is not true and shows
that men think themselves more sophisticated than women. A second example of this type of satire is
that women marry for a name. This is a satire because it ridicules women for being shallow. A final
example of gender related satire is that women are

All Races And Skin Colors
Life education would be filled with students who are diverse in physical appearance first and
foremost. It would be a place that would teach children that they could be independent in all aspects of
life. It would be a place where children always feel safe and welcome. It would not be an institution
solely used to emphasize discipline and obedience skills that factory owners wanted in their workers
in the 1800 s. Children would be free to question anything they like in an appropriate, respectful and

multiplexing (MDM). SMF ( single mode fiber helps in the wave movement in two polarization
conditions. Polarization mode dispersion (PMD) and polarization dependent loss (PDL) have long
been described by field coupling models. It has been observed that strongly coupled modal group
delay or gain depend only no. of modes and variance of accumulated delay or gain and can be derived
from the eigenvalue distributions of certain random variables[12].
SDM (space division multiplexing) has been putforth by Savory. SDM is extremely challenging
technology, of requiring developments in all areas of Photonics Technology. The optical
communication systems are being upgraded every day .There is a rapid development taking place in
this field at the global level in the space division multiplexing. Space Division Multiplexing (SDM) is
conceptually simple, SDM is extremelychalleng technologically, requiring the development of new

Essay on Banana Time Case
BANANA TIME CASE
This case deals specifically with the members of the clicking workgroup. The problem appears to be a
total lack of supervision and management oversight as the work location is completely isolated from
other areas of the shop floor. This lack of supervision has led to a number of concerns. Specifically,
the issues of horseplay, extended breaks and operator disruptions, which all lead to a loss of
production, are clearly visible during daily operations. These problems, while on the surface may
seem trivial, the loss of production and absence of concern for operator safety need to be addressed. If
the working group throughput quota is being met, some leniency could be afforded for the extended
breaks and operator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Third, because the work is not mentally stimulating or challenging, it is recommended that workspace
modification be made. These could include additional or improved natural lighting, as well as the
introduction of music. A radio could provide enough mental stimulation that would help keep the
operators focused on the clicking operation, while also reducing the amount of verbal conversations
and discourses on various subjects. Of course, this brings new issues which include; musical
preferences of each operator may be significantly different.
Because George is the team lead, he should be responsible for maintaining proper behavior of the
operators of the equipment, as well as, adhering to the guidelines for the appropriate length of work
breaks. If this means the enforcement of existing, or the development of new policies, George s roles
and responsibilities should be explicitly defined to include this task. If he is not fulfilling these duties,
he should be coached in private so that he understands the importance of maintaining professional
mannerisms around the dangerous clicking equipment.
Finally, the issue of the operators being overqualified is a serious problem to consider. Solutions to
this problem could include rotational assignments outside the clicking group to provide some variety
in work being performed. Some benefits of rotating employees through the

Essay on Red Lobster s Ethical Dilemma
Red Lobster s Ethical Dilemma Term Paper
Gerry Mullen, CEO of Red Lobster restaurants, has been faced with a dilemma. He recently received
an email from Terry Modotti, Vice President for Public Relations concerning the lobster retrieval in La
Mosquitia, also known as the Mosquito Coast. The article states that many of the young working men
are being killed and maimed to make lobsters available at cheap process to consumers in the United
States. The men, known as buzos, must dive up to 130 feet for lobster, and face dangerous
decompression sickness which begins with paralysis and ends in a slow death. This is due to the fact
that there are no medical or decompression facilities on the boats, and there is also no equipment to
aid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another disadvantage of implementing this option would be that net earnings would decrease due to a
decrease in consumers, and shareholders will be angered by the decreasing figures of the company.
With all of the negativity being placed upon the company as a result of this option, a bad light would
be shown on the CEO and the company, especially since Gerry is relatively new. Since there are
clearly more disadvantages than advantages for Gerry and Red Lobster by exercising this option, I
would advise Gerry to further pursue other options. Another option with which Gerry could
investigate would be for Red Lobster to offer to pay a higher price for lobster to boat companies in the
Mosquito Coast in order for the divers to receive a higher salary cut. A possible advantage to this is
that it would provide a better living environment for the divers. It is stated in the article that after the
sacabuzos (middlemen), boat captains, and fish processors take their share of the money, what remains
for the buzos is a mere $2 per pound of lobster fetched. Within a two week time period, this rate will
amount to about $300. If the divers are trying to support families, $300 for two weeks is quite meager.
By increasing the price that Red Lobster is willing to pay for wholesale lobster, the divers will benefit
considerably due to a higher salary. Another advantage to a higher salary would mean that more
individuals would be inclined to become divers,

The Democratic Party
The Democratic Party was formed in 1792. Its name was adopted in the 1830s during Jackson s
presidency. It is the world s oldest existing political party (Democratic Party). The Northern and
Southern Democrats had issues dealing with slavery, which caused them to split in 1860. According to
the Democratic Party , the Southern Democrats wanted to protect slavery in all the territories while
many Northern Democrats resisted. The party was also known as the white man s party and
demonized the Republican Party as being Negro dominated, even though whites were in control
(Democratic Party). The party s platform deals with a lot of controversial topics. For example,
abortion. Democrats believe Abortion rights are fundamental constitutional liberty and abortion should
be available regardless of a woman s ability to pay (ABC News). They believe that abortion is
completely up to the parents of the child. Another example is education. They want affordable
preschool for all children, higher teacher salaries, higher standards for teachers, students and states,
triple number of charter schools, [and] let more parents choose from among public schools (ABC
News). In 2015, the President announced a landmark proposal to make community college free to
anyone who is willing to work for it (@TheDemocrats). They want to make it easier for children
attending school and allow teachers to earn a better salary. Another issue is gay rights. The Democrats
are all for them. They

Social Functionalism
Functionalism was the prevailing branch of western Human science until the 1960s since when it has
been progressively reprimanded by sociologists favoring distinctive sociological points of view.
Functionalists contend that social orders comprise of between related social foundations, for example,
schools, broad communications, political frameworks, the Congregation and the family each of which
contribute emphatically to the support of soundness of society in general. That is: these establishments
are said to be useful for social orders all in all. Extensively talking it is accepted by functionalists that
social orders work in light of a legitimate concern for the greater part of their individuals with the goal
that there is no purpose behind key clash in the public eye. Rather there is a high level of accord that
social orders are composed proficiently and moderately decently. The primary Functionalist scholars
of the family are G P Murdock and Talcott Parsons. Murdock contended on the premise of his studies
that the atomic family was an all inclusive social establishment and that it existed generally in light of
the fact that it satisfied four essential capacities for society : the sexual, conceptive, monetary and
instruction capacities. Other non Functionalist sociologists have contended, in any case, that the

Background Of The Problem Of Opium
Background of the Problem
Opium is one of the key ingredients that is required when making Heroin. Once the milky fluid has
been cut from the poppy seed, it is then scraped off and set to air dry, producing what we know today
as opium. The opium is then vigorously stirred in with a calcium solution and hot water and then is
supposed to settle for a few hours. Once the opium has been settled, the top which contains the
morphine is extracted from the rest of the liquid. The morphine residue is then dried which results in a
brown morphine base. A chemical solution can be added at this time in addition with heat until the
solution turns black. When cooled down and quenched with water, the impurities of the substance are
removed. In a separate container, sodium carbonate is dissolved in water, then added to the morphine
base solution to create a Heroin based solution. However, on the streets of Dayton, to make more of a
profit off a cheaper substance, it is mostly sold by gel caps which are not as high quality. This results
in unnatural substances and chemicals being included in the cheap heroin product, creating a major
reason why addicts are dying from the drug.
Records show that within Montgomery County the number of heroin overdose has significantly
increased over time. Society is taking a destructive approach by punishing those who abuse drugs like
heroin rather than treating the addiction as a disease that is needing to be cured. The improper
handling of felons with drug

Designing A Remake Centric Film Festival From A Project Essay
Research
I got the idea to create a remake centric film festival from a project I did in another film class. In that
class, my group and I decided to do a presentation on horror film remakes. While trying to decide on
while two films to talk about, I found that a multitude of horror films had been remade. I continued
looking up films that had been remade and eventually made it through the lengthy list of horror films,
and found other genres that have had remakes. Once I found enough content to pad out a film line up,
I settled on remakes as my theme and began my research on the actual film festival aspect.
After seeing that the list of film remakes was dominated by the horror genre, I decided that T2 would
not be another horror fest. I tried to select films from a broad range of genres, all while making sure
that the horror genre was well represented. I was astonished that the fourth horror film ever made was
a remake of the first horror film ever made (Follows, The Scale of Hollywood Remakes and Reboots
), Georges Méliès 1896 Le Manoir du diable, was remade into The Haunted Castle in 1897 by George
Albert Smith. Horror is the most commonly remade genre because societal fears have evolved over
time, and though the stories remain the same, the scare tactics are rejuvenated to be more effective.
The production/success of remakes has declined over the past decade (Follows, The Scale of
Hollywood Remakes and Reboots ), but it appears that remakes are set to make a

  • 2. Benefits of Organic Food The Benefits of Organic Food Draft #1 Organic food, once only found in health food stores, is now a consistent element at local supermarkets. So what is the difference between a conventionally grown apple and an organic one? The answer is in the way the crop is grown and what it is and is not exposed to. In order to be labeled organic the farmer who grew it used renewable resources and conservation of soil and water methods. Also, organic farmers do not use conventional pesticides or weed killers, which may contain synthetic ingredients or sewage sludge. According to Fisher, Sewage sludge from municipalities waste may contain heavy metals and toxins . . . (1). Rather, organic farmers use sophisticated crop rotations, spread mulch and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Compacted soil can result in soil that is unable to create a run off surface. If this happens, the water will be unable to seep into the soil and irrigate the crop. Tractors passing over soil can cause this compaction to occur, which is why tilling is a more effective way to stir up the soil. And as a bonus, tilling can help get rid of weeds, so it is a win win. Pesticides and preservatives are not only harmful to human beings, but they are also harmful to our environment and ecosystems. Pesticides used in organic farming may run off and contaminate nearby bodies of water. If enough contaminated run off from pesticides and artificial fertilizers get into water, it is able to poison animals and fish that live there. According to Raloff, recent studies have demonstrated that exposure to hormones has a substantial effect on the gender and reproductive capacity of fish, throwing off the natural cycle, (1). This is not only harmful to the animals that live there, but if enough fish are dying because of poisoned run off, the fish industry could suffer and it will affect humans as well. The same chemicals that poison bodies of water could seep into our groundwater and affect the well water we drink and use daily. This does not happen with organic farming, because no chemicals are ever sprayed on the fields and there is much more run off because of tilling practices. • 3. The Importance Of Stereotypes In Maya Angelou s Poetry Maya Angelou s poetry supports female defiance of stereotypes. The poem Phenomenal Woman presents a female speaker who defies stereotypes in multiple ways. First, the speaker notes that she lacks traditional aspects of female beauty, though still has power to draw men to her through her womanhood and sexuality, as previously discussed. Secondly, the speaker, who can be assumed to be Angelou, places men on their knees, in positions of servility to her, which contrasts the usual patriarchal scenario with a woman subject to a man (18). Also, when describing her immediate effect on a crowded room the speakers says, Then they swarm around me, / A hive of honey bees. The speaker rhetorically asks the oppressors, likely male and white given Angelou s background, if they prefer her with a broken spirit and lack of confidence, implying that the speaker will not give up and give the male oppressor the power over her that he wants. Introduction Investment decision, by itself, is not a complicated one, as once we manage to consider all aspects of costs associated with the investment decision and to estimate its expected returns, there will be no difficulty to make a proper decision regarding the proposed investment. The main problem in making any investment decision is the ability to consider all aspects of costs that the investment will expose to. • 8. Skinner s View On Psychology And The Contrasting Views Of... Introduction This essay will explore B. F. Skinner s view on the focus of psychology and the contrasting view of the mentalists. It will then go on to consider the benefits of Skinners way of seeing psychology and thus how he was able to turn psychology into a science with measurable outcomes and bring evidence into a subject that had become subjective and unquantifiable. Purpose of Psychology Skinner stated that the purpose of psychology should be the study of behaviour. He had come to this conclusion whilst performing studies on rats. (Skinner, 1938). Mentatlistic approach Prior to skinner the pervading view of behaviour within psychology was concerned with thoughts and inner feelings that were thought to directly cause behaviour.(Cooper, Heron, Heward, 2007) Skinner thought that the study of psychology had remained unchanged for centauries and that the subject had made virtually no progress.(Skinner, 1973) He believed that behaviour should be studied in a scientific way rather than an introspective way. Natural Science Behaviour Psychology or Biology D M (1) (Blackman, 1991) puts the case forward that the study of behaviour should come under the subject of biology rather than psychology on the grounds that behaviour occurs naturally when consequences are applied. The information should be researched and understood to provide evidence for your knowledge of the task. What is a Motor? Motors are everywhere, the power almost everything we use, from kitchen supplies to our automobiles and transport even to kinds toys, they are the essence of putting an object into motion. Most motors consist of the same various items needed to for it to work, magnets, coils of wire, and a power supple. Whilst in the process of discovering what a motor is the desired motor to be used for this investigation is a simple DC motor were a power supply is used to power the motor to start to spin unlike some other motors like in cars where they rely on all other forms of injections for it to power such a large object. An el ectric motor is all about magnets and magnetism: A motor uses magnets to create motion. Electric motors involve rotating coils of wire which are driven by the magnetic force exerted by a magnetic field on an electric current. One of his goals was to measure the acceleration due to gravity, or the acceleration of freely falling objects. Unfortunately, his timing devices were not precise enough to measure the free fall time directly. He decided to dilute gravity by using fluids, inclined planes, and pendulums. Galileo s idea of diluting gravity using inclined planes worked like this: the acceleration of a rolling cart on an inclined plane is small, therefore is easy to measure; when the angle of the incline gets bigger, the acceleration will get bigger; by measuring the dependence of the acceleration on ... The Linear Button was used to determine the slope of the velocity vs. time graph, only using the portion of the data for times when the cart was freely rolling. We found the acceleration of the cart from the fitted line. Record the value in the data table. These steps where repeated 5 mores times. • 17. On Laziness By Christopher Morley Summary Generally, lazy people are not admired. Society, as a whole, prefers those who are willing and able to actively and positively contribute to its progress. Effort is praised while indifference can typically be seen as shameful. Christopher Morley understands this. In his short essay, On Laziness, he indirectly confronts the slothful in an effort to make them see the error of their ways. Morley deals with the topic of laziness in a overly sarcastic and satirical tone to stress the absurdity of the trait. Early in his essay, Morley utilizes irony that made it evident that his essay on the supposed benefits of laziness is meant to be treated as a satire. He in no way is actually believing what he is explicitly stating. The opening statement can only reasonably be viewed as an intentional joke. Morley claims that he intends to write an essay on Laziness but [is] too indolent to [even] do so. Yet, the paper does not end here; he continues on and completes an entire academic essay, blatantly contradicting his first sentence in it. If Morley stays true to his words and fully believes in the value of idleness, no work would have been made to defend it. He makes the sarcasm even more obvious through his deliberate choice of words. While criticizing activeness and energy, Morley spoke of having a determined effort to be more languid and demure. It is paradoxical to try to be lazy. Putting in effort and making an attempt to be so goes against its basic definition. Morley provides examples of where laziness was shown to be virtuous. However, he purposely makes them flawed and highly debatable, forcing the slothful to consider if there is in actuality a strong case for their behavior. Morley initially calls upon recent history for proof. He reminds the audience of the Great War the essay being written in 1920 shortly after it ended and declares that the world would have been spared a great deal... if the Germans had been as lazy, as indifferent, and as righteously laissez fairish as their neighbours... This is a bold claim. War is an atrocious ordeal whose causes are complex and cannot solely be blamed on one group of people. Introduction It has been argued that Karl Marx theory of alienation has lost relevance in contemporary society when understanding the relationship of the individual worker in a capitalist society. It is this statement being proposed by several sociologists who believe alienation being an empty statement in relation to contemporary society. However like many other sociological concepts this one is still contested which is why I will explore the theory of alienation and what effect it has on contemporary society, and argue that Marx s theory of alienation still applies to the process of the owners of production exploiting the working classes. I will start by looking into the four different dimensions of alienation and how these relate to Marx s critique of capitalist society, then relating this concept to modern society. the four dimensions of alienation Alienation as a definition was initially conflicted as it has very different meanings such as the English definition defines alienation as to turn away the feelings of someone or to transfer an individual s property Affine, Y. H. (1997). Alienation has been described as a lack of self actualisation (ester, 1985, p. 77) which results in a non satisfaction of needs in an individual however this is vague because there are a variety of basic human needs that need to be satisfied. While others went further to say that alienation is when an individuals is lacking in self worth which leads ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This paper will focus on the Iraqi part of Kurdistan, for it has come the closest to a state like notion as per Weber s definition. Iraqi Kurdistan is a region characterized by many diplomatic issues due to lack of acceptance as a state. The region was established through an autonomy agreement with Iraqi government in 1970 after decades of disputes between the Iraqi government and the Kurds in the north. The region had already established a government, but it lacked many characteristics that are applicable to a state. The constant conflict with the Iraqi government has been ongoing since the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For many Kurds, the need for a free independent Kurdistan with all four parts united has not been forgotten and will never be. Various methods and strategies have been used in the attempt to establish an independent state, but the prevailing conditions have always been against the Kurds, until the second Gulf War and the toppling of Saddam. This is attributed to the lack of many defining characteristics of a state, thus Weber s notion of a state can be used to describe the prevailing conditions within the Iraqi Kurdistan (Zunes 19). It has been a difficult struggle for Iraqi Kurdistan to achieve legitimacy as a state due to a lack of acceptance by the international community and constant disputes with Iraq and neighboring countries. Notion of a state Based on Weber s notion of a state, a state can be defined as an establishment that is legitimate and has the power and authority over its citizenry. Moreover, it should have an influence on the internal affairs of the state as well as the foreign. As per Weber s specific definition, a state has an imposing business model on honest to goodness viciousness (Oslon 673) Thus, various institutions and foundations such as the military, common administration or state organization, courts, and police characterize the state. The citizenry should also be involved in activities within the state. • 24. Henry David Thoreau s In Wildness Is The Preservation Of... Humans have adopted a need to control instead of survive creating a separation from dependence on the wild which is the very thing we depend most on, thus resulting in destroying the wilderness and wildness of nature. This separation is not a mere physical separation; the drive to control creates this illusion of connection. For example, in Jack Turner s essay, In Wildness Is the Preservation of the World, he explores this idea through analyzing Henry David Thoreau s essay Walking. Turner states human beings no longer accept their status as part and parcel of a biological realm that is self willed, self determined, self ordered. Instead we have divided ourselves from that realm and make every attempt to control it for our own interest. As a society, have we have become too dependent on what we can make in a factory or lab rather than seeking the solutions in nature? The wilderness is a place we should use to understand ourselves and our existences, doing this we regain respect for the wild and with that the ecosystems that sustain our lives. What readers should understand is that wild is described by Henry David Thoreau as past participle of: to will, self willed. In other words, self organized and the opposite of controlled. Getting to the root of the word, wildness seemed to be the first step toward understanding how it preserves the world. We live in a culture today that is obsessed with productivity and efficiency in an attempt to create a false sense of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A share will give the owner of the stock the company s profits or loses over time. The good thing about stocks is they can be sold at almost any time as long as there is someone willing to buy. A bond, on the other hand, is a fixed interest financial asset issued by governments, companies, banks, and other large entities. Bonds also are called funds. • 26. The Characters Of Coraline And Harry Potter Literary heroes that are also ordinary children are engaging to readers, particularly child readers. James Pope and Julia Round write that Roald Dahl is a fascinating author in that his books for children feature child heroes who are very often neither hero nor villain, but a wild, subversive combination of both (258). These characteristics are also true of Coraline and Harry Potter, as they are presented as imperfect, but ultimately find the power within themselves to save what is important to them. Children readers are empowered by Coraline and Harry because they identify with these ordinary children and feel as if they can also make a difference in their lives, as the characters defeat the evil in theirs. Children are more likely to engage with characters they identify with, but when a character is also a hero, children feel as if they themselves have the power to take agency in their own lives. Coraline is a representation of any child that is easily bored and seeks adventure, but she also displays bravery and heroism. Coraline s greatest strength is her imagination, which she uses to her advantage. Most children have active imaginations as she does, and this quality that they have in common will result in children identifying with Coraline and believing they are just as capable of surmounting obstacles as she is. • 46. Background Of The Problem Of Opium Background of the Problem Opium is one of the key ingredients that is required when making Heroin. Once the milky fluid has been cut from the poppy seed, it is then scraped off and set to air dry, producing what we know today as opium. The opium is then vigorously stirred in with a calcium solution and hot water and then is supposed to settle for a few hours. Once the opium has been settled, the top which contains the morphine is extracted from the rest of the liquid. The morphine residue is then dried which results in a brown morphine base. A chemical solution can be added at this time in addition with heat until the solution turns black. When cooled down and quenched with water, the impurities of the substance are removed. In a separate container, sodium carbonate is dissolved in water, then added to the morphine base solution to create a Heroin based solution. However, on the streets of Dayton, to make more of a profit off a cheaper substance, it is mostly sold by gel caps which are not as high quality. This results in unnatural substances and chemicals being included in the cheap heroin product, creating a major reason why addicts are dying from the drug. Records show that within Montgomery County the number of heroin overdose has significantly increased over time. Society is taking a destructive approach by punishing those who abuse drugs like heroin rather than treating the addiction as a disease that is needing to be cured. The improper handling of felons with drug ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Designing A Remake Centric Film Festival From A Project Essay Research I got the idea to create a remake centric film festival from a project I did in another film class. In that class, my group and I decided to do a presentation on horror film remakes. While trying to decide on while two films to talk about, I found that a multitude of horror films had been remade. I continued looking up films that had been remade and eventually made it through the lengthy list of horror films, and found other genres that have had remakes. Once I found enough content to pad out a film line up, I settled on remakes as my theme and began my research on the actual film festival aspect. After seeing that the list of film remakes was dominated by the horror genre, I decided that T2 would not be another horror fest. I tried to select films from a broad range of genres, all while making sure that the horror genre was well represented. I was astonished that the fourth horror film ever made was a remake of the first horror film ever made (Follows, The Scale of Hollywood Remakes and Reboots ), Georges Méliès 1896 Le Manoir du diable, was remade into The Haunted Castle in 1897 by George Albert Smith. Horror is the most commonly remade genre because societal fears have evolved over time, and though the stories remain the same, the scare tactics are rejuvenated to be more effective. The production/success of remakes has declined over the past decade (Follows, The Scale of Hollywood Remakes and Reboots ), but it appears that remakes are set to make a ...
