Guns Should Be Allowed In Schools Essay
On August 1, 1966 Charles Whitman opened fire from the University Of Texas Austin tower killing 16
people. On August 1, 2016 A Texas law went into effect that allows concealed handguns in college and
university buildings in Texas. This law went into effect as the university held a memorial for one of
the deadliest shootings on a college campus. Guns do not belong in schools and especially not on
college campuses. Colleges should not allow guns because suicide rates would go up, young adults
tend to act more rashly, the college life is defined by excessive alcohol use and would increase
accidents shootings. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among college students. Suicide by
firearm is the most common method and 90% of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A student at Weber State University was carrying a gun in his pocket when it went off and shot him in
the leg. During the middle of a lecture a professor at Idaho State University accidentally shot himself
in the foot. None of these would have happened if the colleges did not allow concealed carry. Those
who oppose this argument usually downplay these incidents like on concealedcampus.org which says
these incidents resulted in non life threatening injuries to the license holder s leg . People might also
say that incidents like these could be avoided with proper training. According to The Trace ...in the US
military, from 2003 11, more than 90 soldiers died from negligent discharges. And this number doesn t
include an unknown number of injuries from such accidents. If people whose job it is to handle guns
get injured frequently, the average student or professor would not do better.
College campuses are not places where students should be carrying guns. This is because there is a
risk of accidental shooting, young adults act more reckless, college students often drink alcohol in
excess and suicide rates would increase. The risks to campus carry far outweigh the benefits and just is
not worth

Lucy Family Tree
The most famous member of the human family tree was a fossil named Lucy . Lucy was a fossil
discovered in 1974, and named after the Beatles song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds . Lucy lived
some 3.2 million years ago. She belonged to the species Australopithecusafarensis ( Bower) Lucy was
a hominid, that means she came from the same family as our most recent ancient relatives and
humans. The reason for being such a famous member of the family tree is because it is one of the few
full skeletons of our most recent ancient relatives. Lucy plays a great role in our study of human
evolution. A recent study has revealed how we think Lucy died 3.2 million years ago. We now believe
that Lucy fell to her death from a large tree. The studies show ... Show more content on

Appointed Place of Duty 1
The importance of being at your Appointed Place of Duty It is always important to be where you are
supposed to be. In the Army, every leader stresses the fact on being on time or being at the right place
or being in the right uniform. So if you have to ask yourself is it important to be where you are told to
be? I think most Soldiers and Leaders will tell you that it is very important. It is my responsibility to
be where I am supposed to be. It is all about accountability. You have to keep track of your Soldiers. It
is my responsibility and my leader s responsibility. They are responsible for my actions as well you. In

I know that my inability to be at the right place, at the right time, in the right uniform, and with the
right attitude reflected poorly on my leadership which is something that I never wanted to happen. I
also know that I showed a lack of leadership, selfless service, and responsibility, which are three of
my army values. I know that my inability to leadership could later affect a promotion and it affects the
trust that my leadership has towards me. I know in order to be a successful soldier I must show
leadership qualities at all times. I know by me not showing up for work made it look like I don t have
selfless service. I know that I must put my nations, my units, and my battle buddies needs before my
own in order to accomplish the mission successfully and smoothly. I know that when I failed to show
up for duty that I not only showed lack of responsibility but also a lack of discipline. So in conclusion
I have learned that the account of people is very high because if one person is gone it could mess up
and crew or any team that plays a big role into deployment. I never understood what the role was till
my first deployment but you have to always be prepared for the worst in everything that you do. I
have to realize that it s not just me that s here it s a whole brigade that makes moves and make things
happen. Like I know that I should have been on time and that I should have showed up. So yes I take
the fault for that but I still see that in the long run

Exodus Code And The Gate Keepers
The 21st century marks the start of a new millennium were technology is at the center of everything
that is anything, where a vast majority of our population can carry computers in their pockets. As well
as how constant advancements in every field, from space exploration all the way down to something
as primal as farming, are being made. Truly the human race is at the top of its game. And it s because
knowledge and its understanding is valued through out our society. This statement can be seen
throughout both John Barrowman and Anthony Horowitz work such as Exodus Code and The Gate

Thesis About Yaeba
Young Japanese women and girls are suffering from the Yaeba Complex. Unlike their counterparts in
many other developed nations who view straight teeth as perfection, the Japanese are instead opting to
undergo the expensive and painful procedure of creating crooked teeth. In this essay, through the
lenses of the growing Yaeba trend, I will account for the reasons that contribute to this seemingly
weird Japanese obsession of a preference for an imperfect smile, and study the possible societal issues
that have resulted in the former s emergence. A cross country analysis between Japan and America
will also be briefly conducted to highlight the cultural similarities and differences between a highly
Westernised Japan and the West itself. Yaeba ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is in part due to numerous Japanese celebrities hopping onto the bandwagon of Yaeba procedures
(Considine, 2011), playing an instrumental role in popularising and defining a new beauty fashion.
Indeed, a quick search on the internet churns out dozens of websites highlighting numerous prominent
Japanese celebrities proudly displaying their Yaeba, with the phrase cute , ubiquitous in the
descriptions . Gathering from this popularised trend of Yaeba procedures in pursuit of cute beauty, I
posit that there are two main social issues that can be drawn to conclusion. After all, a social trend
highlights the underlying larger social issues. Firstly, I question if the Yaeba fascination points out to
an underlying female subordination trend, where women are simply keen to please men. It has been
suggested in various accounts that Japanese men swoon over women with a Yaeba smile (Didymus,
2013), as Yaeba is viewed as a child like feature (Dumas, 2011). This possibly elevates the superiority
of men as protectors and evokes a desire for men to protect women. Such an unhealthy obsession with
women possessing child like appearance also seems to be sexualising women (Considine, 2011) into
symbols of possession, and belittling women as a weaker sex that is dependent on men for

Analysis Of The Film Gladiator
There has been numerous of movies and shows based on historical events. Movie makers remake
movies based on historical events to help people understand in a more modern way. Most people tend
to believe that they are based on what truly happened during that time period. Some movies and shows
have half the truth to the real story and have fake facts that have nothing to do with what really
happened just to add more action to it. I picked the movie the Gladiator (2000) and using a primary
source with help me determine if the movie is legit and accurately portrays the real event. The movie
is about a Roman solider who was take in as a slave and trained to be a gladiator. Marcus Aurelius
talks to Maximus about him having control over the empire instead of Marcus own son. Commodus
who was Marcus s son found out that he was not going to be able to take over the empire himself. He
ended up suffocating his father and killing him and lies about it so he can end up being emperor of
Rome. This man [Commodus] was not naturally wicked, but, on the contrary, as guileless as any man
that ever lived. Maximus ends up getting caught because he knows something is up with Marcus dying
because he knows someone was involved. He ends up being a slave to Commodus and is turned in to a
gladiator. Maximus ends up escaping and goes back to his family but Commodus beats him there and
end up slaughtering his family. After seeing his family dead, he passes out and is taken to place in

In February during spring break, my Dad, nicknamed Moose, arranges a trip to stay on Seagull Lake.
This is not like your ordinary trip; this is winter camping in the Boundary Waters, which requires hard
work, the willingness to help out at all times, and a lot of preparation. This trip consists of cross
country skiing, pulling 300 lbs on a sled across a long frozen lake, sleeping in tents in weather that is
20 degrees below zero, and portaging 2 miles to get the chance to fish on a secret fishing lake. The
people that go on this 5 day trip every year are Moose, my second cousin Paul Gerten and his dog, my
uncle Danny, their friend Sterling Black, and I, although Danny had knee issues for a while which
didn t allow him to come this trip. The year was 2016, and Sterling decided to bring his nephew

We start our trip by driving up to my cabin in Silver Bay, Minnesota. The first night is a Thursday
night without the old men s wives, so we go to a bar called the the Green Door where the men drink a
bunch of beers and watch the wild game. Birkley and I of course only drink Coca Cola. Being the one
out of the group that is too young to drink alcohol, and also the kid that can drive, I have to sober cab

Screwtape Letter
Discerning Between Good and Evil Spirits The Screwtape Letters is an inverted approach to
Christianity that parallels the ideals in Ignatian spirituality. In a discussion of hell as a means of
business, an Uncle, Screwtape, writes letters of psychological insight for his nephew, Wormwood, to
coax his subject into turning towards Hell. Though C.S. Lewis writes from the perspective of demons,
this organically highlights the truths of Christianity. Screwtape pushes Wormwood to have the patient
discover evil in every dimension of his life as the patient begins to become a follower of Christianity.
To note, the Christian God is labeled as the Enemy whereas the Devil is labeled as Our Father Below .
In order to turn the subject away ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Ignatuis sees God present in our daily lives and our creator, so does Screwtape who pushes
Wormwood to distort this image. For example, Screwtape advises, keep him praying to it to the thing
he has made, not to the Person who has made him (Lewis 18). Screwtape respects God as seen by the
capitalization of the word Enemy and wants the patient to focus on the opposite of God s virtues
because God s love can prove his existence. The demons must work around God and have their
subjects focus on themselves not God. Furthermore, Wormwood has the subject work with God
through God s grace which protects subjects from the temptations of the devil. Screwtape goes on to
criticize Wormwood s ignorance when Wormwood, allowed [the patient] two real positive Pleasures...
[for] when they are wholly His they will be more themselves than ever (64 65). God wants his
followers to be wholly him and wholly themselves. It is loving God back when a person is
him/herself. Screwtape realizes the faults in letting him act, but the subject only becomes more
humble as Wormwood dismisses said advice. The third way in which the spirit works is a vision of
love. Screwtape berates the Enemy s philosophy of love that [t]hings are to be many, yet somehow
also one (94). God claims to be the Father, the Son,

drug taken after unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy. This drug uses hormones to prevent the ovaries
from releasing eggs, prevent sperm from fertilizing an egg, or chemically alter the lining of the uterus

EC is believed to be 90 percent effective at preventing pregnancy. Although EC meets the legal and

Conscience clauses are legal clauses that allow health care workers to refuse to provide certain
services to which they have a religious or moral objection. Most conscience clauses that apply to
pharmacists were originally created for use in situations where they have reason to believe that
patients might use medications to cause harm to themselves or others. Conscience clauses became a
significant issue during the 1960s, after the development of hormone contraceptives, also known as
birth control pills. Some pharmacists were reluctant to distribute birth control medication for religious
or moral reasons, leading several pharmaceutical companies and organizations to develop guidelines
specific to contraceptives. Shortly after the development of the birth control pill, scientists began
developing hormonal treatments that could be taken after unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy. The
first successful form of EC was called the Yuzpe regimen after its developer, obstetrician A. Albert
Yuzpe. In 1997, the FDA approved EC for prescription use in the United States. Antiabortion groups

Abstract
In the movie Hidden Figures the producers and writers of the movie touch base on multiple points as
well as teach valuable lessons. Katherine Johnson, played by Taraji P. Henson, is an outstanding
american idol. In the 1960s blacks were not seen as equals nor were women yet she, being both black
and a woman, out did her colleagues. Using Euler s Method to solve a problem on a blackboard that

The Issue Of Bargaining Over Position
Negotiation is part of everyday life, and we use it to get something that we want from other people.
The problem that Roger Fisher and William Ury refer to is the issue of bargaining over position. When
we argue over positions, it produces undesirable outcomes. In negotiations, people tend to pay
attention to the position, and not the underlying concerns of both parties. This is not only inefficient,
but it can also lead to strained relationships between two parties. Getting to Yes: Negotiating
Agreement Without Giving In by Fisher and Ury is a step by step guide to negotiating using a method
known as principled negotiations. In principled negotiation, you and the other party are seen as the
problem solvers rather than adversaries. The goal of principled negotiation is always to reach an
outcome efficiently and amicably.
The Method
Every negotiation will involve people, and Fisher and Ury make it very clear that people are not
perfect. While some may be good communicators, others may not be good listeners on the receiving
end. We have our own interests and goals, in which we tend to see from our point of view. According
to Fisher and Ury, the first step to a successful negotiation is to separate the people from the problem.
The most common human problem that we face tends to be perception, emotion and communication.
To prevent these problems from happening, the authors suggest that we build a working relationship
and focus on the problem itself, not the

The Holiday s of Suriname
Suriname is a small country located on the northern coast of South America. The people of Suriname
take their holidays and other celebrations very seriously. Suriname celebrates many of the same
holidays as the rest of the world, but also celebrates many of their own holidays. Phagwah Day is a
very popular Hindu holiday, celebrated in Suriname. This holiday is celebrated on the last full moon of
the lunar month, known as Phalguna. Phalguna is the twelfth month on the Hindu calendar, the same
calendar that governs the Hindu religious life. Phagwah Day is celebrated all over the country at
festivals and parties. Phagwah Day marks the beginning of spring in Suriname, and is known in
Suriname as the festival of color. The people, who go the Phagwah festivals, wear the color white to
show that they are ready to celebrate and get dirty. Today, Hinduism is one of the main religions in
Suriname, and at one point was the most common religion. This may be a key factor in why Phagwah
Day is so popular in Suriname. Although Phagwah Day is a very popular holiday, the people of
Suriname celebrate even larger holidays. Boxing Day is the holiday that is celebrated the day after
Christmas by the adults in Suriname. Boxing Day is a holiday in which the employees of a company
are given the day off and receive a gift from their boss. Boxing Day is celebrated in many of the
commonwealth countries around the world. Boxing Day is said to be a European holiday that dated

Habermas Theory Of The Public Sphere
Having examined and defined mass media and the contemporary democracy it is important however
to consider Habermas theory of the public sphere.
Habermas defines the public sphere as a realm of our social life in which something approaching
public opinion can be formed. Access is guaranteed to all citizens (1974, p.49). It is Habermas theory
that the public sphere helps to facilitate the rational communication of public affairs independently
from the government and state.
Similar to the paragraphs on the mass media and contemporary democracies Habermas himself backs
up the point of the mass media negatively affecting the democracy.
He argues that commercialised media in the new public sphere have turned the public sphere into a
place where advertising is prioritised (Habermas, Lennox and Lennox 1974). A point that backs this
theory up is the way the mass media influences television in a political way, as it is deteriorating the
public sphere (Hart,1994). This opinion is key in the context of explaining the public sphere theory as
it helps to highlight a key point in the modern democracy.
Harts opinion highlights one of the main tools of influence within the mass media, news organisations
influence the audiences view point through what they broadcast on their television channels.
(Quoted in Papacharissi, 2010, p.232) Habermas (2004) suggests that main stream media content have
colonized the public sphere and compromised rational and democratic public discourse. This

Musical Theatre a Powerful Experience
Ninety percent of people feel stage fright when they face the prospects of a public performance

publicly. Being a part of musical theater can help overcome those fears, and give individuals the
ability to have less anxiety. In order to fully appreciate the benefits of musical theater, an individual
must first know what makes this genre special, how participants can gain confidence in this art form,
and how friendships can develop so that fears of performing and speaking in front of others are
conquered.

also states, Some dramatic scenes require you to tap into passionate emotions like anger, despair,
hatred, love, shame, and yearning. While this is far from easy for any beginning actor, you ll become

acting forces individuals to step out of their comfort zones, and expand their emotions and skills. The
last point shows how acting can help individuals to understand people s minds. When an individual

how the environments in which we live affect who we are and who we will become (Wallen). He is

War and Heroism in Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five Essay
What is war? Is war a place to kill? Or is it a place where something more than just killing happens?
War, as defined by the Merriam Webster is a state or period of usually open and declared fighting
between states or nations. War, can also be viewed with romantic ideals where heroes and legends are
born. Even the most intelligent of us hold some rather naïve notions of war. Upon reading Kurt
Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five, intelligent readers have been divested of any romantic notions
regarding war they may have harboured. In Slaughterhouse Five the reader is encouraged to show
contempt for war and to abandon all hopes of thinking war as a place where deeds of heroism are and
bravery are performed. A character in the novel, Roland ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This one particular situation, coupled with the words so it goes and the death of a very likable
character contribute to the reader s growing loathing of the acts of violence carried throughout the war.
Even the structure of the book shows Vonnegut s disgust of war. The bombing of Dresden is also a
climatic point in the novel. At this point, over 135,000 civilians are killed on an undefended city as a
reminder to the Germans to surrender to the Allied forces. The random killing of over 135,000
civilians just to make sure the enemy surrenders is nearly the same as taking beating an opposing team
in a sport 10 0 and scoring one more just to make sure they lose. The bombing is senseless and
Dresden had no reason to be bombed, other than the fact that it was a German city. The bombing
provokes the reader to be outraged at the tactics that man uses just to make sure his opponent will
lose. Even the structure of the book is written in a way that provokes the reader. The book is written
rather haphazardly for a reason. Vonnegut offers the following explanation, It is so short and jumbled
and jangled, Sam, because there is nothing intelligent to say about a massacre. By the end of the book,
the irregularity of the book makes the reader hate the style of writing as much as Vonnegut hated war.
As one finishes Slaughterhouse Five, they realize that Vonnegut is trying to make a valiant stand
against popular culture and the glamorization of war. War, as

Colorectal Cancer Increasing Risk Factors
To start, one already has an increased chance of getting cancer if one already has a history of
colorectal, ovarian, endometrial, or breast cancer. Thus, due to her family s history of getting
colorectal cancer, Ms. Wilson should have already been more wary of colorectal cancer. Although her
race is not mentioned, the following races have highest occurring colon cancer rates from highest to
lowest: Black, White, Asian/Pacific Islander, American Indian/Alaskan natives, and then Hispanic.
With the specificity of sex, women are less likely than men to contract colorectal cancer, but do so at
roughly the same incidence. In addition, being 61 years old gave her a 0.92% chance of developing
colorectal cancer after 10 years, 2.37% after 20 years, and 3.76 after 30 years [5]. In regards to
environmental factors, colon cancer shares many similarities with other forms of cancer. For example,
some environmental factors for colorectal cancer are diet, tobacco, and lack of exercise.
In addition, there are several polyposis disorders, colorectal cancers that are passed on via errors or
mutations within the genetic code, that can also contribute to the development of colorectal cancer.
Examples of polyposis disorders are familial adenomatous polyposis, turcot syndrome, attenuated
familial adenomatous polyposis, and hyperplastic polyposis syndrome. On the other hand, non
polyposis disorders, or inherited colorectal cancers that affects organs such as the reproductive tract,

Nacirema Rituals
The rituals of the Nacirema culture are very unique when it comes to the different forms of beliefs and
remedies. According to the article, The fundamental belief underlying the whole system of the
Nacirema appears to be that the human body is ugly and that its natural tendency is to debility and
disease (4). With that in mind, the Nacirema have come up with a bundle of ways to keep the body
healthy and pure. Of those ways, most are included with the belief that magic is the key component in
the use of ritual and ceremony. Houses in the Nacirema culture have shrines dedicated to the purpose
of these ritual ceremonies. Homes with one or more shrines often mean the family is considered

Another similarity is the region where the Nacirema live, the territory between the Canadian Cree, the

you focus on the rituals of the Nacirema when thinking of America, many of the practitioners are real
careers people choose to have. The way Miner describes the jobs makes you think about how awful it
might sound to people from other nations who don t have these types of occupations where they are
from. Not only did Miner talk about the jobs, but he also mentioned a place called, the latipso , which
is hospital backwards without the h . He describes this place as a temple to the Nacirema, where the
sick go to die. This description sounds a whole lot like how someone would depict a hospital. I believe
Miner uses these tricky descriptions as a way to show us the reality of what is really going on in our
society. He lists several, practitioners , which are real possible careers for one to pursue in America.

Fast And Furious Character Analysis
Title: How Paul Walker Completely Changed Action and Drama Movies
Who isn t familiar with Brian O Conner, the ex cop yet beloved brother of Dominic Toretto? Yes, this
is dealing with Fast and Furious Paul Walker. Before Fast and Furious, Paul Walker had been a part of
everything from Highway to Heaven to The Skulls. Many people are not aware of this, though. Could
this have been what set the bar for his dominant and irreplaceable role as Brian O Connor? Yes, it
could have been; however, his most famous role was as THE Brian O Connor. The films set his

What are the cliché characters? Cliché characters are characters that are known to be overused time
and time again. This character is pretty predictable and one can usually assert what will happen to
them during the film. An example of a cliché character would be Harry Potter. With Harry, one could
argue that his cliché characteristics are being an orphan and having to face Lord Voldemort to save the
world. However, Fast and Furious showcased how not to have cliché characters. This could be argued
with Paul Walker as Brian O Connor. Brian went from being an undercover cop to an undercover
agent, then he became known as a criminal and well known brother of Dominic Toretto. Normally,
when this happens, not many actors could pull this off and still be loved on and off screen. Brian did
come a long way, but he ended up becoming the heart of the entire franchise. This showed that a
character can contain multiple identities, but still maintain an interest of the audience. After this was
done with Brian O Connor, it drew many people towards Paul Walker for what he was able to do. It is
not easy playing different roles and keeping the initial view of that initial character; however, Paul
Walker did the impossible and Brian O Connor remained a key character in the franchise. He even
earned a special dedication in the end of Furious 7, after Paul s sudden death. There are not many
characters who are even thought about to be given a dedication in a film, yet Brian O Connor was

Psychological Problems
There is evidence that personal beliefs influence the efficacy of common psychological problems
cures. Personal perception and will power over common problems like depression, sexual dysfunction,
smoking, insomnia, and gambling among others is believed necessary in the ability of an individual to
overcome these problems. This social psychology approach is investigated and discussed widely in
social psychology studies like that of Furnham, Hosoe, Koyasu, Ota (2000). This belief is the result of
everyday parlance that describes and associated clinical terms everyday language. Clinical psychiatry
and psychology terms of loneliness, negative thinking and depression are defined in terms like
sadness, fear, or anger. When ordinary ideas are used instead of clinical psychiatric terms, confusion in
definition, measurement, and treatment arises. This research explores the accurate form of clinical
judgment for depression, negative thinking, and loneliness. It also explores the cognitive processes
associated with the behavior, social psychological approaches, and social relationships that support the
wellbeing for persons indicating the behavior problems.
Earlier studies on behavioral problems and clinical psychologist definitions of these problems found

Differences Between Hamlet And The Lion King
Fairy tales have helped children deal with things they fear. Now a days, the fairy tales children are
aware are not the Hans Christian Anderson, Studio Ghibli or Brothers Grimm, but Disney. Disney has
taken the typification portrayal in the fairy tales, make it a reality and took it to entertainment industry.
Comparing the original narrative to the Disney version, most of the stories have went through
retellings and alternation; for example Hamlet and The Lion King. Disney has inadvertently neglected
these stories origin and motive. Many agree and have picked up The Lion King, Disney s most
watched and victorious movie till date, as Disney s only original movie; the only movie which is
previously has not been a fairy tale. However, this is not the true. While The Lion King may not be
based on a fairy tale, it is a matter of fact strongly based on the play by William Shakespeare called

Dredging the Hudson River
For the past year, the subject of polychlorinated biphenyls in the Hudson River and what should be
done about them has been discussed by politicians and residents all over the capital region. Often the
top story on the local news, the front page headline of the newspaper, the subject of a special on

Many companies produced PCBs in the 1930 s and 1940 s and because the chemical does not
decompose, PCBs are still present in soil and rivers, subsequently ending up in fish and other wildlife.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), PCBs build up in the environment, and
larger concentrations are found higher in the food chain. Eating contaminated fish is the most likely
way for PCBs to get into the human body. In 1997, the EPA banned the production of PCB s and they
were classified as a probable human carcinogen.
DREDGING
Dredging is the removal of soil or material from the bottom of a river, lake or ocean harbor. (Encarta
Online 8 Apr 2001). There are two distinctive types of dredging; navigation and construction
dredging, and environmental dredging. Navigation and construction dredging are used to remove
sediment that has accumulated to a level where the water depth is insufficient to support safe
navigation (Huskie 2). Navigation dredging tends to use large open clamshell dredges. Environmental
dredging utilizes hydraulic dredges that act as a vacuum to remove contaminated sediments such as
PCBs, ( Environmental Clearwater.org). A representation of these dredges is on the following page

The Effects Of Stress On The Brain
Stress is neutral. It is the individual s perspective that determines whether it is positive or negative.
Positive stress can provide energy to handle emergencies, and overcome challenges by activating the
higher thinking centers of the brain (Tennant). Stress becomes negative when the individual feels
threatened and not in control of the situation. This reaction is much more powerful, affecting the brain
and body in ways that can be destructive both physically and mentally (Tennant). Everyone will

The Importance Of Objectivity In Art
As Gombrich describes, objectivity is the ability to represent something exactly as it is seen in nature
without any influence. According to Gombrich, the objectivity of the representation in a work of art
does not define how correct or real the art is. On the contrary, realism is defined by the information
conveyed from the art. If the information is correct, the work is realistic. Gombrich believes this
because there are multiple limits to representing objectively. One of the most prominent limits is style
because as much as any artist would like to recreate nature objectively, style overrules. Every artist
has a unique temperament which is represented in their work, making it a limit to representing an
object objectively. Furthermore, the style itself is a limit to objectivity as well. Style includes but is
not limited to the method of recreation or technique. The choice of technique restricts the artist
freedom of choice as the artist can only render what his technique is capable of rendering. Not only is
the limit to objectivity seen in the work of art itself, but it is also present in viewing nature itself with
the eyes. The artist will see certain aspects of nature that others will not see based on his technique.
For example, an artist drawing a scene will focus on the scene in terms of lines. Another limit to
objectivity is the preference of an artist. An artist will only paint what he likes, which is what he can
paint.

I agree with all of Gombrich s

What Are The Main Features Of The News System
To design a system with good usability, it is necessary to analyse and grasp the users needs or
requirements. Different users or audiences might have different needs for the news system so it is very
difficult for a system to catch up all the needs. With the help of locating the target user group for the
news system, the scope of audience could be decreased, which could allow designers to discover
specific users needs easily. In addition, through finding the target user group, people could integrate
the users need into the core values of the system better, which could help the whole system to enhance
the usability and become more competitive than other news systems or applications in the market. Due
to this, this section is going to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, the fourth feature of the target user for this system is that the target users would want a constant
stream of new information and they would want some short news or some highlighted interesting
information as well in order to read through a large amount of news in a short time.
Furthermore, the target user group of this news system would have different news related behaviours.
To catch up the target users needs and enhance the usability of the whole system, the news system
would support some specific new related behaviours. One of specific news related behaviours
supported by the system is that the target users would look through some popular or hot news listed on
the homepage of the system in order to spend less time on searching for the news or information
which they want because many target users would want to catch up the trend and collect a large
amount of information in a short time. As a result of this, many target users would through viewing
the news listed on homepage to grasp some latest news or events happened in their countries or in the
worldwide. Another news related behaviour is that while the target users use the news system to
encounter different news or information, they would share the links of news or information to other
people on different social media platforms. Because of

Essay about Loyalty by Yulia Drunina
Aldous Huxley once said, One of the great attractions of patriotism it fulfills our worst wishes. In the
person of our nation we are able, vicariously, to bully and cheat. Bully and cheat, what s more, with a
feeling that we are profoundly virtuous (Huxley, 2013). Yulia Drunina s poem Loyalty is about her
devotion to her motherland Russia. Yulia Drunina is a Russian poem writer that writes a lot of her
poems about Russia. Yulia wrote the poem Loyalty to describe her love for her dying motherland. This
poem s meaning is that Yulia loves Russia so much that she will never forget about it and go wherever
it goes.
The speaker of the poem is Yulia Drunina. She grew up in the U.S.S.R and wrote the poem Loyalty .

This poem has some examples of alliteration. Yulia wants to get her point across and she wants to
emphasize it. So she uses alliteration to get it across. For example, Yulia wrote, Maybe you ll meet
some girl, / More lovely, more wise, or more dear. She repeats more often and this gives the feeling of
how much more she thinks her country will find some other type of person that is more important to
itself (Drunina, 1946).
Metaphors play a huge part in explaining how Russia made Yulia feel. It gives us the mood or feel of
the place. An example would be, Your tranquil pines, and such things / As the nocturnal Pakhra flows,
as Yulia wrote (Drunina, 1946). This comparison refers to the peacefulness of the U.S.S.R and gives
the image of it being quiet and peaceful. The reader can now imagine a quiet area where there is not a
single bother in the world with this metaphor.
Yulia had some examples of symbolism in her poem. Yulia wrote As the nocturnal Pakhra flows
(Drunina, 1946). She uses a real river in Russia to symbolise the tranquility of her home. The river is a
calm force running downstream, so it can symbolise calmness. Readers now get the image of calmness
from just reading that and that is what Yulia intended to do.
Yulia Drunina s poem Loyalty is a great poem about the U.S.S.R. Yulia wrote this poem to explain and
express her feelings about her old home which is the U.S.S.R. She was expressing how

The Chrysalids Vs To Kill A Mockingbird Analysis
The Chrysalids vs. To Kill a Mockingbird
Lead Harper Lee s, To Kill a Mockingbird, takes place in Maycomb, Alabama during the 1930 s, when
great depression and racial discrimination was occurring. The novel s protagonist, Jean Louise (Scout)
Finch, experiences the great depression in a town in Alabama, Macomb. The Chrysalids, written by
John Wyndham in late 1940 s, which is set in the future after the devastating global nuclear war. The
novel s protagonist, David Strorm lives in a community of Waknuk, consisting of religious and genetic
fanatics. Waknuk is a community where anything out of a norm is sinful and could even end in a
consequence as serious as death. The main question is, what does Wyndham s and Lee s themes,
superstition, racism, and fear say about today s society? Superstition is seen in many religions and
beliefs that do not accept different races or religions in today s society. This can also be known as
Racism, which is also present in both of these novels. Racism is also seen in today s society at
schools, work, etc... Lastly, Fear is also a major theme in both of these novels, portrayed by several
characters, or societies. All of this can be related back to how the authors show these themes, and what
they say about society everywhere. While Lee s story focusses on the themes directly related to the
society and Wyndham s story adheres closely to its protagonist, they share the key distinction of
warning and criticizing the cruelty of today s society.

Military Involvement of Women in Canadian History
Introduction In the recent past women in the Canadian Forces have managed to reach integrated
positions including position of combat in the military. Lack of research and knowledge that governs
and supports women in these roles is a common phenomenon in many countries. Women have
experienced gender disparity for a long time; however, with the help of other stakeholders and their
effort they have persistently fought gender discrimination. When there is no appropriate research,
there is a likelihood that the provided services may fail to target the actual need of women. For women
in the military to be optimistic about the support, there is need for research that is to examine their
experiences in the military. This discrimination has also been revealed by nontraditional research on
women. From the history of Canadian Forces, women have really struggled to achieve pay and status
equity and integration within the military ranks and positions. Their efforts have been faced with a
number of barriers and setbacks which arise from the Canadian government that pave way for gender
integration upon the military. The fact that women were being recruited and expanded job
opportunities for them availed, the traditional military institutional norms, beliefs, values and
procedures were being faced out to a great extent, (Baker, D. D., et.al, 1990). The beginning of change
was in the North West Rebellion of 1885, went on through the next century to date. During these

Analysis Of The Book Opens With Carruthers
The novel opens with Carruthers, a British Foreign Office employee, recalling the many invitations
extended to him during his stay in London. Unfortunately, in his arrogance, the man turned down the
majority of invitations, only to find himself with nowhere to go. This pushes Carruthers to consider
the unappealing invitation of his old acquaintance Davies. Davies has invited Carruthers on a yachting
journey filled with sailing and duck hunting, across the North Sea and into the Baltic, towards the
Frisian Islands, right off the coast of Germany. Carruthers arrives to find a rather small vessel with no
crew present. He quickly realizes that this is no relaxing vacation after all. While Davies shows him
the ropes, Carruthers tries his best to help sail the Ducibella. As they travel across the sea, they
encounter beautiful scenery and even other sailors. Eventually, Davies tells Carruthers about his
previous journey through the Frisian Islands. He reveals that a German barge yacht, owned by a man
named Dollmann, had baited the Ducibella onto a shoal in a troublesome sea that surely would have
caused the small yacht to perish, if not for a small channel and the Bartels. Davies finishes his story in
a mode of inquiry; he cannot figure out the motivation behind Dollmann s behavior. He comes to the
conclusion that Dollmann must be an Englishman and a spy, due to his actions, looks, and Davies
analyses of the channels. Davies proceeds to lay out Dollmann s possible route and tells

Through the use of false promises and sneaky sales tactics, borrowers are convinced to sign a loan

to go over the fine details of the contract, a significant amount of the borrowers targeted by predatory
lenders haven t been updated enough to really understand what they are signing. In most cases, sub

A $100,000 mortgage at 8% and zero points over a 30 year time period yields interest worth $164,155.
Not all loans are available at 8% because not all borrowers have great credit. Now, let s say that 8% is

brewing of a perfect storm for customer service and relations. It is ultimately reflecting poorly upon
the company. The V.P. should make the distributors and retailers know that this behavior is
unacceptable and Handy Andy does not endorse this kind of business in relation to its valued
customers.
4. In the case is the statement, The factory distributors in these few cities indicated that they, not
Handy Andy, Inc., stood behind the one year warranty. Is this a problem for Handy Andy? Why or
why not?
This is a problem. It is not the distributors issuing the warranty. It is Handy Andy s warranty given to
the customers as a testament to stand behind their product. This is not a third party warrant that is sold
at say a used car lot. Again, this reflects poorly on Handy Andy and how they value their customers.
5. Bixby, Booher, and Ortega recognize that Handy Andy needs a better way to learn about the buyer s
installation experience. One alternative is to add an open ended question, dealing with the installation
experience, to the warranty activation form. Another alternative is to e mail a brief survey about the
installation experience within three to five days of receiving a warranty activation form. Which of
these alternatives should

Team Performance And Development Of Team Members
It is undeniable that there are many challenged factors in today s business world. One of the most
important is leadership skill. Macmillan online dictionary (2015) defined leadership as the position of
being the leader or being in charge of an organization . Leader is a person who leads the team to
achieve the goal. There are several roles of leader such as problem solving, improving team
performance, motivating, planning and organizing etc. According to Adairs Action Centred Leadership
Model (1973), the model consists of three main elements, which are co ordinating teamwork,
accomplishment the task and supporting individual. A person cannot perfectly reach a goal with one or
two focusing factors. Effective Leader or manager has to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They lost three people while they were completing the task. This meant that at the end there were only
two members left with four bricks so it was easy to cross the patch. The positive thing is they had
planned before start the task by using papers instead of the bricks and try to allocate each team s
member on the papers. On the other hand, there were the negative things. Despite they found that four
bricks are not enough for five people to carry out the goal, they decided to do without the back up
plan. Moreover, the reason why the group lost three members was because they did not concern about
physical body of each individual. The members try to set down the bricks as far as possible in order to
cross the patch faster. Nevertheless, the majority of team members have small legs, which they could
not make a big step between each bricks. This makes the members slip down to the ground and had to
leave the task. The group focused on achieving the goal rather than their team and members. Lastly,
the team missed information and critical thinking. The team did not analyse mission and recognise
about more materials on the other side of the patch. If the team spend more time to find the
information and asked understanding from the members. They may know what they are going to do
and may have more opportunity to achieve the task more effectively.
As a result of this event, it shows that the

Wireless Human Area Network
We are heading towards an electronic future(era of electronics) where information will be accessible at
our fingertips, wherever and whenever wanted. Some of the communication and computing equipment
required to provide this immediate and intimate access to information will be incorporated into our fit
out. Just as a glance at present day s wristwatch saves a trip time to the nearby clock, a glance at future
s wristwatch will replace finding a terminal to check e mail.. A Human Area Network (HAN), also
referred to as a wireless human area network (WHAN) or a body sensor network (BSN), is a wireless
network of wearable computing devices. In particular, the wireless network comprises of several
miniaturized Body Sensor Units (BSUs) together with a single Body Central Unit (BCU). The
development of WHAN technology started around 1995 around the idea of using wireless personal
area network (WPAN) technologies to implement communications near, on, and around the human
body. About seven years later, the term HAN came into existence to refer systems where
communication is entirely on, within, and in the immediate presence of a human body. A WHAN
system can use WPAN wireless network technologies as gateways to reach longer network ranges.
Human Area Networking (HAN) is a technology that safely and securely turns the surface of the
human body into a data transmission path by using minute electric fields generated on surface of
human body at speeds up to 10 Mbps between any

Richard II Essay examples
Richard II
Life:
He was born in Bordeaux France on January 6, 1367. He was the son of Edward the Black Prince and
the grandson of King Edward III. Richard succeeded to his grandfather s throne on June 22, 1377, at
the young age of ten. Due to his young age the government continued to be run by nobles of the
kingdom, in the same fashion it had been in the last years of his grandfather s reign. These nobles
were dominated by his Uncle John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster.
Guant s misrule brought on quicker economic deterioration that was being caused by the Black Death
and the Hundred Years War, being fought against France. The result of this misrule was the Peasant s
Revolt of 1381. Richard, in handling the first big ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gaunt was able to keep the peace between the factions until, in July 1386, he left England to pursue
his own dynastic ambitions in Castile, Spain. By leaving Gaunt left Richard at the mercy of his
enemies, who instigated Parliament to impeach his chancellor, Michael de la Pole, Earl of Suffolk, and
created an eleven man commission to oversee the king s activities for a year. When Richard declared
these measures treasonable violations of the royal prerogative, his opponents retaliated by having the
Parliament of 1388 outlaw his closest friends, some of whom were executed. The defenseless king
submitted to the five principal opposition leaders, the appellants, until May of 1389. In May he
announced his intention to rule as an independent monarch of full age.
Gaunt s return from Spain in 1389 stabilized the situation and Richard worked in apparent harmony
with the Gaunt and the appellant lords for eight years. But in actuality the king spent this time waiting
for an opportunity to avenge himself against his former enemies. He slowly made a second royalist
party, that was stronger then the first. By 1397 he was ready to strike, he had Arundel convicted of
treason and executed; Warwick was banished and Gloucester imprisoned and murdered.
In September of 1398 a quarrel between two former appellants broke out, Gaunt s son Henry
Bolingbroke and Thomas Mowbray, Duke of Norfolk. This quarrel gave the king a chance to banish

Why Are Counselling Theories So Important
Why is counselling theories so important? As Mental Health Counsellors in training, we know
inherently that we must understand counselling theories, but why? When we understand why we are
doing something, we have a deeper understanding and appreciation of it, which tends to lead toward
appropriate use. And what could be more important in the field of counselling than the appropriate use
of counselling theories? According to MastersinCounselling.org Theory is the set of rules that is
proposed to best explain an observed or hypothesized phenomenon. In counselling, theory gives a
counsellors a way of consistently understanding and interpreting human thought, feelings and
behaviours. Consistent conceptualization of a client s issue in this way

What Are The Legal Issues Related To The Ford Motor Company
Memorandum TO: Jonathan Foster, Head of the Legal Analytics Department FROM: Sawyer Folks,
Business Analyst DATE: April 27, 2015 SUBJECT: Ford Motor Company Background The Ford
Motor Company has had a rather tarnished legal history. Ford got into some hot water in the 1990s
and 2000s over multiple safety scandals. One of these scandals occurred in 1996 and involved faulty
ignition switches that would short and cause fires. The ignition switch scandal then led to Ford being
sued by State Farm for neglecting to release information about the faulty ignition switches and their
tendency to start fires. Perhaps the most famous Ford safety scandal of all took place during the 1970s
when Ford released the Pinto. As a consequence of a poor design, the fuel tank was located near the
cars bumper and had virtually zero protection mechanisms in place. This design flaw led to many fatal
explosions from the car being struck from behind. Ford ended up having to pay millions of dollars in
civil cases as a result of injuries and deaths related to the design of the Pinto. Ford had to fork over
$125 million dollars in damages in just one civil case, although this was a special case. There were
other cases in which Ford executives were found innocent of any murder charges at all. There was a
very diverse and wide spectrum of cases related to the Pinto incident. Ford does not only suffer from
legal issues related to a lack of safety, but also to legal issues involving environmental

Gambling In The Gambler
Gambling and the unpredictability of the roulette wheel stand at the center of Fyodor Dostoevsky s
The Gambler. Despite the fact that it is not a very rational activity, gambling captures the enthusiasms
of many in The Gambler, enthralling those characters that are intoxicated by the feelings of victory.
Experienced gamblers often work out strategies to ensure success, or at least a greater chance of
success. Unfortunately, these types of patterns and strategies simply do not apply in games of chance
like roulette. As Jeff Love describes, there is not a fixed constant or indubitable ground permitting a
deductive determination of the results of each turn of the wheel in the game of roulette (Love 373).
Put more simply, roulette is a game of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alexei argues that in roulette, there is not a strict order, [but] at least a certain pattern (40). As this
passage shows, Alexei craves control, but simply cannot have it in a game like roulette. The simple
reality is that the outcomes of roulette are completely random. There is no pattern or order, but simply
an erratic variety of different numbers. Alexei s desire to challenge Fate is highly indicative of how
badly he wants to control the truly uncontrollable (40). Just like in his relationships, Alexei cannot
steer the path of the game of roulette in the direction of his choice. Alexei s inability to control the
game of roulette is what ultimately drives him to become addicted and admit that he is a gambler
(102). Alexei s desire to discover some sort of pattern or strategy is indicative of his desperation to
prove his abilities as a gambler. Alexei cannot fathom that there is no pattern or order that will help
him understand the game better. He simply has to leave the game up to chance, which propels him to a
fairly destructive obsession with the game. Unfortunately for Alexei, the outcome of roulette is out of
his direct control, which further proves that like the roulette wheel, most parts of Alexei s life are

The Book Thief Theme Essay
Heil Hitler. Behind this statement is a mirage of things. Floods of horrible picture of dying starving
Jews in concentration camps, Hitler at the helm at things, committing mass genocide. So how does
someone stop a powerhouse such as this? For Liesel, a small girl in Molching, stealing books is her
getaway. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is a unique book which puts Death into the narrator s
place. And when Death becomes a storyteller, telling the story of Liesel using three colors. Red.
White. Black. Death talks to readers about how Liesel steals books as a way to escape reality and
along the way learns about the horrible, tyrannical country that she calls home. But by putting Death
as the good guy we can look more into the details. It is with this different mindset that allows certain
themes to be more recognized. One prevailing theme that occurs frequently was one which readers
could see what common, regular citizens were experiencing in a Nazi controlled Germany instead of
from a surviving Jew s point of view. Then as if that wasn t distinctive enough, readers are able to look
through a small child s view and what she can do to oppose an oppressed country. One example of the
theme that was prevalent through the book was one of Liesel stealing books. Though it may seem
cowardly to steal books instead to ask or loan them, the use of the word steal makes it so that it seems
to be more behind the back of Germany. The quote, ...the act of stealing, it triggered the crux

BI24043A Microbiology
28 March 2017
In the early 1900 s two scientists, Jules Bordet and Octave Gengou, discovered the first bacterium in
the Bordetella genus. The genus was named after Bordet. The bacteria within the Bordetella genus are
Gram negative and rod shaped. These bacteria are typically coccobacilli (coccoid) (Finger). These
bacteria usually occur either in pairs or are single. They have a thin murein layer surrounded by an
outer membrane containing lipopolysaccharide and phospholipids, and they do produce a capsule
(Bordetella, 2010). All the species apart from B. petrii are obligate aerobes as well as highly
fastidious. The Bordetella bacteria are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bacteria can immobilize the cilia. These ciliated cells increasingly are destroyed, the lack of cilia
allows foreign matter to build in the lower airways, and coughing and inflammation results
(Bordetella, 2010) .
B. pertussis is the causative agent for whooping cough, an acute respiratory infection marked by
severe, spasmodic coughing episodes (Bordetella Species, 2004). B. pertussis is spread by direct
contact with droplets from coughing by an infected person. It can continue to transmit the bacteria
three weeks after coughing spells have stopped. Whooping cough can be carried by individuals who
are immune and transmitted to those who are not. The epidemic cycles in most countries is every few
years (Bordetella pertussis, 2007).
The species B. pertussis, whooping cough, is the respiratory disease in humans. A person infected with
this disease usually first shows symptoms such as runny noses, sneezing, fever, and mild coughing.
The coughing then worsens and comes in bursts. At the end of cough, the infected person takes in air
with a high pitched whoop from which the infection gets its name (Tortora 681). Complications of
whooping cough can lead to convulsions, dehydration, inflammation of the middle ear, a loss of
appetite, as well as seizures, and in a worst case scenario this can cause death in infants. Treatment of
whooping cough can include an antibiotic treatment usually with erythromycin, increased fluids, as
well as

Importance Of Writing My Book
Growing up you could not find a bigger bookworm then myself. I read small books to big books,
books on the study of animals, plants, or just plain old novels. I have always had a passion for learning
new things from educational books or just reading a new exciting story in every novel I picked up. I
have a multitude of fond memories of books I read and lessons I learned, but one instance I consider
more impactful than the others. This moment came when my 6th grade English teacher helped me
write my own book. It may sound crazy that a mere 6th grader is attempting to write a book, but at the
time it was a huge deal to me. I have had many hobbies throughout my life and find myself
consistently picking up new hobbies. In 6th grade however my biggest hobby was writing and
storytelling. As a 6th grader I was young and had a strong love for superheroes. This often prompted
me to make my own comic books and create my own unique superheroes. Throughout class many
students would watch me not only write these comic books but draw them and put them together.
Many were fascinated but many were also degrading towards it. Despite some hostile feelings I
continued to make them and continued to sell them around the school to those who wanted my comic
books. One day while I was drawing the cover for the superhero I created known as Super Smith , and
yes, the superhero was created to be a representation of myself, my English Mrs. Payne walked over
and asked to see what I was doing. I was

The Importance Of Peace In John KnowlesA Separate Peace
In John Knowles A Separate Peace, Gene and Finny, best friends, have two more years of innocence
before they have to fight in the brutal war enveloping the world. In their free time, they do foolish
things, like jumping off trees and playing dangerous games. But in the back of their minds, they know
that in a couple years, they are off to fight, like the seniors they know. Consequently, the prestigious
Devon School will start training the two young boys for their near future. The war going on impacts
the book in many ways such as marking the end of Gene and Finny s childhood, discussing the lives
of the seniors, and developing the boys carefree summer. The summer of 1942 signified the last
summer of Gene and Finny s childhood. Since they are going off to war the next year, they decided to
take advantage of their last summer. Gene explains, We spent that summer in complete selfishness, I
m happy to say. The people in the world who could be selfish in the summer of 1942 were a small
band, and I m glad we took advantage of it. (Knowles 30) They are allowed to be selfish because next
summer they know they won t have the same opportunity as they do now, so they are spending it the
best they can. Also, When Finny was reading the newspaper he found a section about the war. He told
Gene, I was reading in the paper that we bombed central Europe for the first time the other day.
(Knowles 25) That supports the thought that the boys might be the ones bombing Europe next year,

On August 1, 2016 A Texas law went into effect that allows concealed handguns in college and university buildings in Texas. This law went into effect as the university held a memorial for one of the deadliest shootings on a college campus. Guns do not belong in schools and especially not on college campuses. Colleges should not allow guns because suicide rates would go up, young adults tend to act more rashly, the college life is defined by excessive alcohol use and would increase accidents shootings. Unlike their counterparts in many other developed nations who view straight teeth as perfection, the Japanese are instead opting to undergo the expensive and painful procedure of creating crooked teeth. Gathering from this popularised trend of Yaeba procedures in pursuit of cute beauty, I posit that there are two main social issues that can be drawn to conclusion. After all, a social trend highlights the underlying larger social issues. Firstly, I question if the Yaeba fascination points out to an underlying female subordination trend, where women are simply keen to please men. It has been suggested in various accounts that Japanese men swoon over women with a Yaeba smile (Didymus, 2013), as Yaeba is viewed as a child like feature (Dumas, 2011). This possibly elevates the superiority of men as protectors and evokes a desire for men to protect women. Such an unhealthy obsession with women possessing child like appearance also seems to be sexualising women (Considine, 2011) into symbols of possession, and belittling women as a weaker sex that is dependent on men for ... Screwtape respects God as seen by the capitalization of the word Enemy and wants the patient to focus on the opposite of God s virtues because God s love can prove his existence. The demons must work around God and have their subjects focus on themselves not God. Furthermore, Wormwood has the subject work with God through God s grace which protects subjects from the temptations of the devil. • 16. The Issue Of Bargaining Over Position Negotiation is part of everyday life, and we use it to get something that we want from other people. The problem that Roger Fisher and William Ury refer to is the issue of bargaining over position. When we argue over positions, it produces undesirable outcomes. In negotiations, people tend to pay attention to the position, and not the underlying concerns of both parties. This is not only inefficient, but it can also lead to strained relationships between two parties. Getting to Yes: Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In by Fisher and Ury is a step by step guide to negotiating using a method known as principled negotiations. In principled negotiation, you and the other party are seen as the problem solvers rather than adversaries. The goal of principled negotiation is always to reach an outcome efficiently and amicably. The Method Every negotiation will involve people, and Fisher and Ury make it very clear that people are not perfect. While some may be good communicators, others may not be good listeners on the receiving end. We have our own interests and goals, in which we tend to see from our point of view. According to Fisher and Ury, the first step to a successful negotiation is to separate the people from the problem. The most common human problem that we face tends to be perception, emotion and communication. • 18. Habermas Theory Of The Public Sphere Having examined and defined mass media and the contemporary democracy it is important however to consider Habermas theory of the public sphere. Habermas defines the public sphere as a realm of our social life in which something approaching public opinion can be formed. Access is guaranteed to all citizens (1974, p.49). It is Habermas theory that the public sphere helps to facilitate the rational communication of public affairs independently from the government and state. Similar to the paragraphs on the mass media and contemporary democracies Habermas himself backs up the point of the mass media negatively affecting the democracy. He argues that commercialised media in the new public sphere have turned the public sphere into a place where advertising is prioritised (Habermas, Lennox and Lennox 1974). A point that backs this theory up is the way the mass media influences television in a political way, as it is deteriorating the public sphere (Hart,1994). This opinion is key in the context of explaining the public sphere theory as it helps to highlight a key point in the modern democracy. Harts opinion highlights one of the main tools of influence within the mass media, news organisations influence the audiences view point through what they broadcast on their television channels. Upon reading Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five, intelligent readers have been divested of any romantic notions regarding war they may have harboured. At this point, over 135,000 civilians are killed on an undefended city as a reminder to the Germans to surrender to the Allied forces. The random killing of over 135,000 civilians just to make sure the enemy surrenders is nearly the same as taking beating an opposing team in a sport 10 0 and scoring one more just to make sure they lose. Cliché characters are characters that are known to be overused time and time again. This character is pretty predictable and one can usually assert what will happen to them during the film. An example of a cliché character would be Harry Potter. With Harry, one could argue that his cliché characteristics are being an orphan and having to face Lord Voldemort to save the world. However, Fast and Furious showcased how not to have cliché characters. This could be argued with Paul Walker as Brian O Connor. Brian went from being an undercover cop to an undercover agent, then he became known as a criminal and well known brother of Dominic Toretto. Normally, when this happens, not many actors could pull this off and still be loved on and off screen. Brian did come a long way, but he ended up becoming the heart of the entire franchise. • 29. The Importance Of Objectivity In Art As Gombrich describes, objectivity is the ability to represent something exactly as it is seen in nature without any influence. According to Gombrich, the objectivity of the representation in a work of art does not define how correct or real the art is. On the contrary, realism is defined by the information conveyed from the art. If the information is correct, the work is realistic. Gombrich believes this because there are multiple limits to representing objectively. One of the most prominent limits is style because as much as any artist would like to recreate nature objectively, style overrules. Every artist has a unique temperament which is represented in their work, making it a limit to representing an object objectively. Furthermore, the style itself is a limit to objectivity as well. Style includes but is not limited to the method of recreation or technique. The choice of technique restricts the artist freedom of choice as the artist can only render what his technique is capable of rendering. Not only is the limit to objectivity seen in the work of art itself, but it is also present in viewing nature itself with the eyes. The artist will see certain aspects of nature that others will not see based on his technique. For example, an artist drawing a scene will focus on the scene in terms of lines. Another limit to objectivity is the preference of an artist. An artist will only paint what he likes, which is what he can paint. Answer 2: I agree with all of Gombrich s ... Some of the communication and computing equipment required to provide this immediate and intimate access to information will be incorporated into our fit out. Just as a glance at present day s wristwatch saves a trip time to the nearby clock, a glance at future s wristwatch will replace finding a terminal to check e mail.. A Human Area Network (HAN), also referred to as a wireless human area network (WHAN) or a body sensor network (BSN), is a wireless network of wearable computing devices. In particular, the wireless network comprises of several miniaturized Body Sensor Units (BSUs) together with a single Body Central Unit (BCU). The development of WHAN technology started around 1995 around the idea of using wireless personal area network (WPAN) technologies to implement communications near, on, and around the human body. About seven years later, the term HAN came into existence to refer systems where communication is entirely on, within, and in the immediate presence of a human body. A WHAN system can use WPAN wireless network technologies as gateways to reach longer network ranges. Human Area Networking (HAN) is a technology that safely and securely turns the surface of the human body into a data transmission path by using minute electric fields generated on surface of human body at speeds up to 10 Mbps between any ... • 43. Richard II Essay examples Richard II Life: He was born in Bordeaux France on January 6, 1367. He was the son of Edward the Black Prince and the grandson of King Edward III. Richard succeeded to his grandfather s throne on June 22, 1377, at the young age of ten. Due to his young age the government continued to be run by nobles of the kingdom, in the same fashion it had been in the last years of his grandfather s reign. These nobles were dominated by his Uncle John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster. Guant s misrule brought on quicker economic deterioration that was being caused by the Black Death and the Hundred Years War, being fought against France. The result of this misrule was the Peasant s Revolt of 1381. Richard, in handling the first big ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gaunt was able to keep the peace between the factions until, in July 1386, he left England to pursue his own dynastic ambitions in Castile, Spain. By leaving Gaunt left Richard at the mercy of his enemies, who instigated Parliament to impeach his chancellor, Michael de la Pole, Earl of Suffolk, and created an eleven man commission to oversee the king s activities for a year. When Richard declared these measures treasonable violations of the royal prerogative, his opponents retaliated by having the Parliament of 1388 outlaw his closest friends, some of whom were executed. The defenseless king submitted to the five principal opposition leaders, the appellants, until May of 1389. In May he announced his intention to rule as an independent monarch of full age. Gaunt s return from Spain in 1389 stabilized the situation and Richard worked in apparent harmony with the Gaunt and the appellant lords for eight years. But in actuality the king spent this time waiting for an opportunity to avenge himself against his former enemies. He slowly made a second royalist party, that was stronger then the first. By 1397 he was ready to strike, he had Arundel convicted of treason and executed; Warwick was banished and Gloucester imprisoned and murdered. In September of 1398 a quarrel between two former appellants broke out, Gaunt s son Henry Bolingbroke and Thomas Mowbray, Duke of Norfolk. This quarrel gave the king a chance to banish both ... • 45. What Are The Legal Issues Related To The Ford Motor Company Memorandum TO: Jonathan Foster, Head of the Legal Analytics Department FROM: Sawyer Folks, Business Analyst DATE: April 27, 2015 SUBJECT: Ford Motor Company Background The Ford Motor Company has had a rather tarnished legal history. Ford got into some hot water in the 1990s and 2000s over multiple safety scandals. One of these scandals occurred in 1996 and involved faulty ignition switches that would short and cause fires. The ignition switch scandal then led to Ford being sued by State Farm for neglecting to release information about the faulty ignition switches and their tendency to start fires. Perhaps the most famous Ford safety scandal of all took place during the 1970s when Ford released the Pinto. As a consequence of a poor design, the fuel tank was located near the cars bumper and had virtually zero protection mechanisms in place. This design flaw led to many fatal explosions from the car being struck from behind. Ford ended up having to pay millions of dollars in civil cases as a result of injuries and deaths related to the design of the Pinto. Ford had to fork over $125 million dollars in damages in just one civil case, although this was a special case. There were other cases in which Ford executives were found innocent of any murder charges at all. There was a very diverse and wide spectrum of cases related to the Pinto incident. Ford does not only suffer from legal issues related to a lack of safety, but also to legal issues involving environmental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Gambling In The Gambler Gambling and the unpredictability of the roulette wheel stand at the center of Fyodor Dostoevsky s The Gambler. Despite the fact that it is not a very rational activity, gambling captures the enthusiasms of many in The Gambler, enthralling those characters that are intoxicated by the feelings of victory. Experienced gamblers often work out strategies to ensure success, or at least a greater chance of success. Unfortunately, these types of patterns and strategies simply do not apply in games of chance like roulette. As Jeff Love describes, there is not a fixed constant or indubitable ground permitting a deductive determination of the results of each turn of the wheel in the game of roulette (Love 373). Put more simply, roulette is a game of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alexei argues that in roulette, there is not a strict order, [but] at least a certain pattern (40). As this passage shows, Alexei craves control, but simply cannot have it in a game like roulette. The simple reality is that the outcomes of roulette are completely random. There is no pattern or order, but simply an erratic variety of different numbers. Alexei s desire to challenge Fate is highly indicative of how badly he wants to control the truly uncontrollable (40). Just like in his relationships, Alexei cannot steer the path of the game of roulette in the direction of his choice. Alexei s inability to control the game of roulette is what ultimately drives him to become addicted and admit that he is a gambler (102). Alexei s desire to discover some sort of pattern or strategy is indicative of his desperation to prove his abilities as a gambler. Alexei cannot fathom that there is no pattern or order that will help him understand the game better. He simply has to leave the game up to chance, which propels him to a fairly destructive obsession with the game. Unfortunately for Alexei, the outcome of roulette is out of his direct control, which further proves that like the roulette wheel, most parts of Alexei s life are completely ... Floods of horrible picture of dying starving Jews in concentration camps, Hitler at the helm at things, committing mass genocide. So how does someone stop a powerhouse such as this? For Liesel, a small girl in Molching, stealing books is her getaway. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is a unique book which puts Death into the narrator s place. And when Death becomes a storyteller, telling the story of Liesel using three colors. Red. White. Black. Death talks to readers about how Liesel steals books as a way to escape reality and along the way learns about the horrible, tyrannical country that she calls home. But by putting Death as the good guy we can look more into the details. It is with this different mindset that allows certain themes to be more recognized. One prevailing theme that occurs frequently was one which readers could see what common, regular citizens were experiencing in a Nazi controlled Germany instead of from a surviving Jew s point of view. Then as if that wasn t distinctive enough, readers are able to look through a small child s view and what she can do to oppose an oppressed country. One example of the theme that was prevalent through the book was one of Liesel stealing books. Though it may seem cowardly to steal books instead to ask or loan them, the use of the word steal makes it so that it seems to be more behind the back of Germany. The quote, ...the act of stealing, it triggered the crux ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Importance Of Writing My Book Growing up you could not find a bigger bookworm then myself. I read small books to big books, books on the study of animals, plants, or just plain old novels. I have always had a passion for learning new things from educational books or just reading a new exciting story in every novel I picked up. I have a multitude of fond memories of books I read and lessons I learned, but one instance I consider more impactful than the others. This moment came when my 6th grade English teacher helped me write my own book. It may sound crazy that a mere 6th grader is attempting to write a book, but at the time it was a huge deal to me. I have had many hobbies throughout my life and find myself consistently picking up new hobbies. In 6th grade however my biggest hobby was writing and storytelling. As a 6th grader I was young and had a strong love for superheroes. This often prompted me to make my own comic books and create my own unique superheroes. Throughout class many students would watch me not only write these comic books but draw them and put them together. Many were fascinated but many were also degrading towards it. Despite some hostile feelings I continued to make them and continued to sell them around the school to those who wanted my comic books. One day while I was drawing the cover for the superhero I created known as Super Smith , and yes, the superhero was created to be a representation of myself, my English Mrs. Payne walked over and asked to see what I was doing. But in the back of their minds, they know that in a couple years, they are off to fight, like the seniors they know. Consequently, the prestigious Devon School will start training the two young boys for their near future. The war going on impacts the book in many ways such as marking the end of Gene and Finny s childhood, discussing the lives of the seniors, and developing the boys carefree summer. The summer of 1942 signified the last summer of Gene and Finny s childhood. Since they are going off to war the next year, they decided to take advantage of their last summer. Gene explains, We spent that summer in complete selfishness, I m happy to say. The people in the world who could be selfish in the summer of 1942 were a small band, and I m glad we took advantage of it. (Knowles 30) They are allowed to be selfish because next summer they know they won t have the same opportunity as they do now, so they are spending it the best they can. Also, When Finny was reading the newspaper he found a section about the war. He told Gene, I was reading in the paper that we bombed central Europe for the first time the other day.
