Lenovo- technology company
Introduction about the company
One of the largest technology company in the world, Lenovo had a humble beginning as a small
Chinese firm founded in 1984. The company showed modest growth throughout the rest of the 20th
century. It wasn t until the company s acquisition of IBM s personal computer business in 2005
(Martin, 2014) that the company began to gain prominence in the technology industry. Lenovo s
innovation and strategic decision making has allowed the company to evolve on a global platform and
enabled it to become one of the leading technology companies in the market today.

The Role Of Dance Therapy For The Lgbt Community Essay
I earned my Bachelor s in Neuroscience from Centenary College of Louisiana, where I graduated with
departmental honors. While in college, I co founded a nonprofit that aimed to provide support for the
transgender community, especially those who were homeless veterans. I led workshops at medical
schools to teach future doctors how to provide comprehensive care to the LGBT community. Through
this grassroots community organizing, I realized current approaches to medicine and research focus on
gender in binary ways that leave out transgender populations. These experiences sparked my passion
in biocultural anthropology and holistic human health. My interest in human biology began when I
worked as a part of a team that investigated dance therapy as a form of treatment for the symptoms of
Parkinson s disease. I conducted interviews in which participants completed quality of life
assessments. I learned about the significance of combining subjective and objective measures of
stress. The main findings were that after months of therapy, patients showed slight improvement in
tremor and gait as well as positive emotional life assessments. As a team member, I collected data and
presented research at the Society for Neuroscience. Most research on Parkinson s focuses on cellular
mechanisms in brain functioning instead of treating symptoms as a product of environment. In order
to apply this framework to marginalized populations in my research, I had to learn how to successfully

Implicit Gender Bias Essay
Implicit Gender Bias and Women in STEM Fields
Most people consider themselves as rational, reasoning individuals who make decisions after
considering the facts at hand. Research suggests that this is often not the case, with implicit bias at
work shaping one s responses. Researchers at Cornell University have defined implicit bias as
unconscious, unintentional bias (Royer, Hido Slotnick, 2017). Predictors of implicit bias include socio
economic status, gender, ethnicity, childhood experience, and cultural experience (Cooley, Payne
Phillips, 2013). Unlike explicit bias which reflects attitudes or beliefs that one endorses on a conscious
level, implicit bias refers to attitudes or stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions and
decisions in an unconscious manner resulting from subtle cognitive processes that often operate at a
level below conscious awareness and without intentional control (Gyan, n.d.). Of these, implicit
gender bias affects the health and social wellbeing of women, as well as disadvantages women
economically and in the workplace. As such implicit gender bias is endemic within the scientific,
technological, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields, and this bias can disadvantage women
pursing these careers (Moss Racusin, Dovidio, Brescoll, Graham Handelsman, 2012). The importance
of further study of mitigating interventions of this implicit gender bias is clear. Our hypothesis is that
implicit gender bias related to women in STEM fields will

Remark: This illustrates an important point. The fair price of a stock cannot be determined by the risk
neutral pricing, as seen below. Suppose S1 (H) and S1 (T ) are given, we could have two current
prices, S0 and S0 . Correspondingly, we can get u, d and u , d . Because they are determined by S0 and
S0 , respectively, it s not surprising that risk neutral pricing formula always holds, in both cases. That
is, 1+r−d u−d S1 (H) S0 = + u−1−r u−d S1 (T ) 1+r , S0 = 1+r−d u −d S1 (H) + u −1−r u −d S1 (T )
1+r . Essentially, this is because risk neutral pricing relies on fair price=replication cost. Stock as a
replicating component cannot determine its own fair price via the risk neutral pricing formula. 1.4.

precisely, we solve the equation (1 + r)(X0 − ∆0 S0 ) + ∆0 S1 = −(S1 − K)+ . 1 Then X0 = −1.20 and
∆0 = − 2 . This means the trader should sell short 0.5 share of stock, put the income 2 into a money

The Issues And Risks Facing Sel
After reviewing the current situations, I have identified the following issues and risks facing SEL. An
overview of the implications of the proposed IPO, and a brief analysis of the three accounting
packages under consideration are also given in the memo.
Weaknesses in financial management
SEL has been weak in financial management. Both of you were not actively involved in it. Nor did
SEL have sufficient qualified accounting staff to undertake these critical responsibilities. For example,
there were no such roles who conducted business/operation planning, forecasting and budgeting, and
financial analysis. SEL lacks necessary tools to perform these functions either. The poor planning and
forecasting contributed to the cash flow shortage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would suggest we tighten the policies and procedures, deposit cheques more frequently (preferably
daily), review and approve invoices in time.
The recent growth in business, especially the new contracts, implies a significant increase of
accounting transactions. It calls for qualified full time accounting staff (rather than the current
inexperienced part time accountant), and sound financial management, which involves policies and
procedures, documents and tools, to help us keep the operation on track and achieve the business
goals. Being your new controller, I would be responsible for business planning. I will be mostly
involved in financial forecasting and budgeting and will help in the financial analysis. I would
recommend that we hire one cost accountant to conduct cost analysis and pricing; one full time
accountant to perform the routine accounting functions and assist in ad hoc accounting activities. We
should also develop useful tools to help undertake these tasks. Official reports for
forecasting/budgeting, financial analysis and cash flow management should be prepared and reviewed
on a regular basis, which would help in short term and long term planning and decision making.
Internal control perspective
From an internal control perspective, I would emphasize that SEL needs to strengthen its control and
monitor. Should we go public as proposed, our

Oedipus Tragic Flaw Analysis
Oedipus the king has a temper tragic flaw it s an anger that leads him to many unknown problems due
to killing his own father, king Laius, which happened at the crossroads, however his violent temper
has a good candidate in it which is due to a tragic flaw. Furthermore, Oedipus has Pride which leads to
identifying himself as a good character. Oedipus main downfall unwillingness leads to his faithfully
fate. Many people don t like him and accuse him of many things that he hasn t done. Yet, many people
support him like Jocasta they encourage him to keep going forward and keep being open minded, not
to measure himself, and to never give up. However, due to many things he has been accused of Jocasta
comforts him by telling him that there are no truth in oracles prophets and she has plenty of proof.
Furthermore, a long time ago an oracle told Laius a story that supposedly his own son would kill him,
yet results came in and said he and Jocasta gave their monthly old son of a shepherd to leave on a
hillside to die with a pin between its ankles. However, he was killed by three robbers not by his own
son, one of Jocasta proofs that the oracle was wrong. Something about her story puts Oedipus into
trouble, she said that Laius was killed at an intersection where three roads meet, which reminds
Oedipus of an incident that happened in the past. Furthermore, when he killed a stranger at an
intersection where three roads met, he then asks her to describe Laius, and her details match his
memory. However, Jocasta tells him that the only witnesses there are to Laius s death is a herdsman,
which he swore that robbers killed him. Oedipus then witnesses and interrogates them. However,
Jocasta helps him to be the bigger and better person. While Jocasta and Oedipus wait for the man to
arrive, they ask why he seems so troubled. Oedipus then talks to her about the story of his past. When
he was young an old man he met told him that he wasn t his father s son. He then automatically and
asked his parents about that and of course they denied it. However, he still had a doubt about that and
wondered why the man told him that. Yet, he eventually went to an oracle to find out the truth to see
who his real parents were. When he

Stereotypes In Shakespeare s Othello
In Shakespeare s tragedy Othello, the title character is a 16th century Moorish general of the Venetian
army who, because of the cultural and historical background of the play s setting, the playwright, and
the original intended audience, is portrayed as both well respected for his military prowess and
disparaged for his race. Similarly, because of today s American society both celebrates the richness of
latin food, music, and language which creates a sort of ignorance due to the fact that many Non
Hispanics rely on them in many ways and yet consistently robs them of their own unique cultures
when they are all assumed to be Mexican or being an illegal immigrant. In Shakespeare Othello we

Hispanics. Also in TYPICAL STEREOTYPES OF HISPANICS by Chief Editor tells us how many of
the Non Hispanics in the US think towards us. Another stereotype for Hispanics is that in Mexico, the
country borders in the United States. This is considered as the biggest and top most drug producing
country. The males are specifically stereotyped as drug dealers and drug users. However, Hispanic
males are not known as dealers or drug users because even women and men are so, on every race. It is
unlucky that Hispanic men are being stereotyped on this way. This quote by the author tells us how
people think male hispanics are and are viewed by others. These two quotes tells us how many non
hispanics believe or assume in one way or another that hispanics are Mexicans or speak Mexican
when the language of Hispanic is different because there s a lot of hispanic countries. Although
hispanics have been described negatively by other people, there has been a lot of contributions that
hispanics have give to the United States and a lot of positive views towards them. Yes! So, Latin

Impaired cognitive function can cause harmful and cumulative long term effects on intellectual
function, particularly in young children. The most common risk factor for the occurrence of
hypoglycemia is the aggressiveness of therapy applied to achieve glycemic control. The other factors
include, antecedent hypoglycemia, alcohol, increased glucose utilization, decreased glucose
production, female sex, sleep, duration of diabetes, age and progressive insulin deficiency were also
associated with an increased risk of hypoglycemia in patients with T2DM. Multiple risk factors are
associated with precipitation of hypoglycemia in the general population. When it comes to elderly
patients with diabetes, the problem of hypoglycemia is a major concern. Hypoglycemia is an expected
side effect of sulfonylurea. Hypoglycemia unawareness is a major cause of severe hypoglycemia in
patients with T2DM. Hypoglycemia awareness in patients can bring better results in managing
hypoglycemic events. Symptoms of hypoglycemia become progressively less intense over the time or
diminish.
Management of hypoglycemia consists of strategies such as prevention of hypoglycemia, use of
therapeutic agents with low or no occurrence of hypoglycemia and treatment of hypoglycemia. It is
important for the patient to understand and agree to adhere to treatment plan in terms of both
medication and lifestyle modification. Self monitoring of the glucose is very

The Need for Reform in Collegiate Sports Essay
The Need for Reform in Collegiate Sports
The current institutional structure of intercollegiate athletics is attempting to maximize educational
quality and athletic excellence simultaneously. Each of which will inevitably impinge on one another.
Universities claim that their athletes are amateurs who are attending college for academic achievement
and play sports in their free time.
This is an impossible task for anybody. Higher education has entered the arena of big business with its
athletic programs and with it many problems have emerged for coaches, athletes, and the athletic
system itself. There is systematic corruption. Exploitation and hypocrisy are givens in college
athletics. Athletic personnel are mistakenly given the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It should be noted that the graduation rate for athletes across the nation is not promising. Scholarships
become worthless promises if they do not result in a certificate. According to Louis Barbash, a
television producer, 3 out of 10 basketball players graduate, while 4 out of 10 football players
graduate. Many athletes emerge from college illiterate, without a degree, and without a professional
athletic career. The system is cheating these individuals. It is a known fact that 44% of all African
Americans in collegiate sports expect to play professionally. A college athlete has a better chance of
becoming an astronaut than they do playing professionally. One athlete out of 10,000 will ever play
professionally.
Athletes are dominated, managed and controlled. They do not receive an education or wage
commensurate with their contribution to economic returns. They are making millions for universities
while receiving nothing. Louis Barbash, a writer and producer, feels that the NCAA has failed athletes
terribly. They have two options: to professionalize sports or to meet the Ivy League ideal (equal
standards and expectations for athletes and nonathletes). If they choose to professionalize college
sports, then each team acts as a minor league. The average salary has been proposed around 17,000
dollars. Athletes can also take classes if they want with no specific time limit for completion. This act
would have to be implemented by NCAA or legislation.

U.s. Federal Election Commissions
In the land of politics, the more money that one has is the better. This is no exception when it comes to

campaigns success is money. Money in a campaign means that more advertising can be bought. This is
the perfect way to get the candidate seen by the public and is also a way to paint a negative picture of
the other candidate. However, questions can be raised where does the money that funds campaigns or
campaign advertisement come from, should there be regulations imposed to monitor where it comes
from and what part of the campaign does this money fund? Questions like these and more were
answered in the Supreme Court Case Citizens United Vs. Federal Election Commissions and many
were not happy about this ruling. Citizens United is a known for being a non profit organization that
fought for the rights of citizens. They believed that United States citizens should know what is going
on in the government and be in control (Citizens United Foundation, 2016). It is important to Citizens
United that all citizens are aware of policies that are in place. What impact certain laws will have on

Pink Ribbon Clogs
Breast Cancer Action (BCA) coined the term pink washing as part of their Think Before You Pink®
campaign. According to BCA a pink washer is a company or organization that claims to care about
breast cancer by promoting a pink ribbon product, but at the same time produces, manufactures and/or
sells products that are linked to the disease.
These companies all give themselves a pat on the back for spreading awareness, but all the while they
are really just profiting off of breast cancer.
Example one: In 2010, Dansko Shoe Company sold pink ribbon clogs. Consumers likely thought that
a portion of their purchase of pink ribbon clogs went to a breast cancer program. However, purchase
of the pink ribbon clogs was not connected to Dansko s donation none of the portion of the sales went
toward their already set donation of $25,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. No matter whether or
not you bought the clogs, their donation was the same.
Example two: In 2010, Reebok marketed a line of pink ribbon emblazoned footwear and apparel at
prices ranging from$50 to $100. Though it heavily promoted the fact that some of their pink ribbon
product sales would be donated to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, they set a limit of $750,000,
regardless of how many items were sold, and there was no mechanism in place to alert consumers
once the maximum donation had been met. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe everyone at a time in life want to reach out and help give back to the community and really
make a positive impact. Raising awareness for a new and unknown disease would help the diseases
and keep people educated on it.
When cancer was first discovered raising awareness was the best way to inform people about it and
the dangers it entails. Companies first started to use the pink ribbon which represents breast cancer
awareness on their merchandise, to help raise awareness and in hopes of making money for the breast
cancer movement. When a company says they are donating a portion of the money to the breast cancer
organization (Susan G. Komen for the Cure), people that want to give back to their community see it

Measuring The Distributional Characteristics Of L2 Input...
Given the two necessary conditions for measuring the distributional characteristics of L2 input stated
above, it becomes obvious that input variability differs fundamentally from the variability in a TL
construction (cf. section 2.3.2). The same conclusion can be drawn from the fact that non robust input
and the TL variable structure are proposed as two different, though closely related and interacting,
forces of interlanguage fossilization (Han, 2013) (see section 2.3.1). For simplicity, variability in a TL
construction will be referred to as construction variability in the remainder of this dissertation
proposal. To recapitulate, Han s (2014) conceptualization of the variability dimension of L2 input
robustness consists of the following levels: (a) one to one, or one TL form encoding one meaning; (b)
one to many, namely one TL form encoding multiple meanings across multiple contexts, or (c) within
the same context; and (d) many to one, or multiple TL forms encoding the same or a similar meaning
(see section 1.3). Though identical in terminology and entailment on the surface, construction
variability signifies (in)consistency in the form meaning function relations of the TL in the
prescriptive, categorical sense, and is generally stable in distribution. Input variability denotes a TL
construction s (in)consistency in the form meaning function mappings in discourse episodes that make
up the primary linguistic data immediately accessible to L2 learners. Whereas naturalistic

The United States V. Virginia Case Study
When Virginia Military Institute (VMI) was founded in 1839, it was established as a male only
institute. At this time and even up to the mid 1970 s, most colleges and institutes were single sexed
schools. They, at that time, only wanted to teach and build young men to transform the world; not
women. The state arguably stated that women would not be able to hand the level of training involved
in going to VMI (Justia). However, once most other colleges and institutions opened admissions, VMI
still stood their ground as a male only institution. The question they then faced was whether or not
their tradition to be male only was constitutional?
The case of VMI went to the district courts, and was deemed to be a tradition and that this tradition
was accepted. However, the Fourth Circuit rejected the decision. They found the policy in which they
made admission decisions unconstitutional. In response Virginia tried coming up with a women only
institution that would equal up to VMI. They introduced Virginia Women s Institute for Leadership
(VMIL) to the Fourth Circuit. Even though both programs did not require the same level of skill, the
Fourth Circuit accepted that the two institutions were equivalent to each other because they offered

Bartolome De La Casas Summary
Introduction: History of Bartolome de la casas Bartolome de la Casas was a historian who had Spanish
origin, and he was branded a Dominican friar and a social reformer as well. He was born in Seville in
1484 and was eventually given an official appointment as the protector of the Indians. His
appointment as the protector of Indians was greatly sparkled by his service as resident bishop in
Chiapas, a position that he was surely the first person of his kind to hold. He was a great writer and
used his writing to address the issues that colonialists committed against the indigenous people
especially in the West Indies. To this effect Bartolome de la Casas wrote an Account on the
Destruction of the Indies alongside the other document called Historia de Las Indias . He arrived in
America as a settler, and he was among the very first European to do the same. During his stay in
America, he witnessed the Spanish colonialists treat the indigenous Americans very harshly and
unfairly. Filled with fury and spirit of reformation, Bartolome de la casas decided to create the

My Statement Of Purpose In Biology
Education is a companion which no future can depress, no crime can destroy, no enemy can alienate
and no nepotism can enslave. It is this maxim that urges me to pursue my career beyond Masters
Degree.
Science has always been a fascination and more of a miracle to me from my childhood. Right from my
school days, I enjoy studying biology, though exposed to only major concepts of biology, the terms
like cell, genes, DNA, protein intrigued me a lot. It is my unchanging aspiration to explore and to
discover the mysteries of the inner workings of life in the micro cosmos represented by cell and
molecules, as a biologist.
Educated at best schools, I was encouraged to participate in science fairs, and other educational
competitions. It was the Biological Sciences that titillated me the most. After obtaining 85.07% in
10th standard, I chose Physics, Chemistry Biology, and Mathematics as my electives at High School.
My incipient enchantment with Biology successfully got me admission to S. B. E. S. College of
Science for B.Sc. In my undergraduate study, I explored various topics from Chemistry, Botany
Zoology yet the two areas that evoked an ardent interest in me were Cell Biology and Genetics. I

Washington Tsunami Scenarios
Scientists have projected possible tsunami scenarios for coastal Oregon and Washington, based on the
human impact of the 2004 Sumatra and 2011 Japan tsunami. An earthquake along the Cascadia
subduction zone could be as large as the one that hit Japan lastMarch, and the tsunami could reach the
coast in 20 minutes (National Geographic Society [NGS], 1996). The tsunami could create a massive
catastrophe killing over 10,000 people during the summer since the evacuation centers are sparse and
some people have lower access to high ground (NGS, 1996). For instance, a resort town named Ocean
Shores lies on a low ground narrow peninsula and 5,500 people live there year round (NGS, 1996).

Porter Robinson And Madeon Concert Report
On November 16th, I attended a Porter Robinson and Madeon concert at Echostage in Washington
D.C. Porter Robinson and Madeon are both electro house, dubstep, synthpop, and EDM (Electronic
Dance Music) music DJ s, who have decided to collaborate and tour together. Doors opened for the
concert at 9 PM, with DJ s Robotaki (Ro bo ta key) and Danger opening for them. Robotaki focused
more on house music, while Danger was more heavy drum and bass electronic music. Although, the
opening DJ s varied in their style of music, they helped to set the mood and prepare the crowd for the
main event.
The concert began with Porter Robinson and Madeon performing live their hit song, Shelter. Together
they played the drums, remixed the set, and worked together ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A common theme throughout the show was the use of the Wall of Sound, where many different
instruments and beats were being played simultaneously. This made the entire room fill with sound,
making it almost impossible to distinguish between the multiple layers of beats hitting you. Although,
this may have been true for much of the concert, the DJ s also incorporated the concepts of
minimalism into their work, by using very few instruments: drums, piano, a synthesizer, and
turntables. The tempo of the songs varied greatly throughout their performance, with some songs
being slowed down to incorporate new, unique sounds, and others being sped up to introduce the next
track. The canons of the songs vary greatly, with some sets of songs sounding very similar to each
other, then it will become quiet, and then the canon will change again as the concert progresses into its
next stages. Repetition also plays a major role in Porter Robinson and Madeon s music, creating a
steady beat that s easy to move to, with the rest of the song never deviating greatly from the original
beat. A great example of this is Porter Robinsons song, Divinity, where the initial beat sets the theme
for the rest of the song. In every song the musical elements build upon each other. For example, in
their song, Shelter, it starts with a beat and an electronic voice speaking. As the song progresses these
elements still exist, but other beats and sounds are

Analysis Of One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest
One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest Essay: Power Dynamics In The Cuckoo s Nest
She aint honest ... She likes a rigged game (Forman One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest Film). Power
can be used as a source of evil or heroism. It has the capacity to control and manipulate people.
However, it also has the capability to champion freedom and rights for others. In the novel One Flew
Over The Cuckoo s Nest, Nurse Ratchet s controlling power came from her ability to emasculate the
male patients and maintain a sexless façade. She also held in place an extensive system of rules and
regulations, as well as an ordered routine. McMurphy s liberating power derived from his rebellion
against the ward rules and his open sexuality which granted him confidence. ... Show more content on

For instance, McMurphy places a bet on whether or not he could lift up a marble control panel, throw
it at a window to escape, and go watch a sports game at a bar. A few of the patients agreed to going
with him, but everyone (including McMurphy) knew that lifting the control panel would be
impossible. His aim in doing this was to show the other group members that they could claim their
rights if they were being wrongfully denied. McMurphy wanted the men to reclaim their masculinity
and engage in stereotypical manly activities; going to a bar, watching sports, having a drink. After he
attempts to lift the control panel he asserts Well, I tried, didn t I? Goddamnit, at least I did that. (Kesey
111). As a result, McMurphy enabled the patients to see the power of rebellion and that while they
may not always succeed in their endeavours it is worth the attempt. The Chief, our narrator, is a shy
Native American who pretends to be deaf and dumb to remain invisible on the ward. This allows him
to be an observer which offers him a measure of self protection. Most of the patients treat Chief like
an object. However, McMurphy continually tries to communicate with him. For example, he states I
swear you re the biggest Indian I ever saw (Kesey 219). As in most cases, McMurphy motivates and
imparts confidence in numerous men during his stay at the asylum. One of the primary acutes he
encourages is Bromden, as McMurphy is the only person who is able to make Chief Bromden, who

Lab Report 5 A. Coughran 4/12/17
Objective:
The objective in Lab 5 is to measure and determine the strength and location of magnetic fields using
a coil, solenoid, and magnets. The experimental values of the strength of the magnetic fields of the
solenoid and the coil will be calculated and then compared to their respective theoretical values for
accuracy.
Theory:
Field line patterns exist within a magnetic field that is created by a current. These field lines of a coil
or a solenoid can be traced by using a compass because they create a dipole pattern, meaning that they
diverge from the north end and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, the negative and positive power supply plugs were switched to see if this had any effect on the
magnetic field of the coil. Both did not have significant effect.
Procedure B: Field Patterns Inside a Solenoid
A slinky was stretched on the lab bench and taped down with the turns of each slinky at roughly 1 cm
apart. Positive and negative alligator clips were then attached to each end of the slinky to allow for
current flow through the slinky. Next, a Vernier magnetic field probe was placed in the center of the
slinky, zeroed, and set to high sensitivity for accuracy. The power supply was then turned on and
adjusted until the current reached about 0.5A.
Data collection was started and the average experimental magnetic field values, B, were measured
several times for accuracy. An average of these values was then taken using the analyze statistics tool
and then stored in Logger Pro for inclusion in the data section. Next, the theoretical value B value for
the solenoid was measured using Equation 1 above and compared to the average experimental B value
mentioned previously in order to check the setup. A percent error was calculated between each of
these values at each current setting.
Once the setup showed good accuracy and was adjusted, the current was varied from 0A to 1.0A and
magnetic field data was collected. The magnetic field data and the

Abstract
The Italian opera was at an ultimate high during the romantic period. Many composers came to life
during this period and became some of the most prominent composers of all time. Giuseppe Verdi who
was grown up into the opera was about to find out what famous looked like. Over five decades he
demonstrated his commitment to drama and composed 28 operas and many were a huge hit.
Nabucco(1841) and Rigoletto(1851), a couple of the most famous operas by Verdi, provide details of
how the life of Verdi was like which made these operas such a hit. One goal is to be able to prove that

To the psyche of an average nineteenth century devotee, Rigoletto s first solo expression more likely

Lighting Of The Dark Knight
Intro: Lighting as we know, creates the atmosphere for the setting, it establishes the overall tone for
what the audience sees. Lighting is key in filming, as it can change tones from scene to scene to create
a certain subliminal meaning. For instance the contrasting light from character to character to allow
the viewer to understand the differences. Throughout the movie The Dark Knight we are able to see
how the lighting allows for the directors subliminal meaning to seek through; darkness within. As the
name of the movie suggests Dark Knight the movies overall tone is set in the darkness. This dark
atmosphere allows for an eerie feeling, tension to build up and an anxiety feeling for the viewer. To
understand the underlining meaning behind the lighting choices within the film, it ll be shown by the
protagonist, antagonist and the overall atmosphere within the movie.
Protagonist: In regards to the protagonist group, the lighting is used to highlight the good within them.
Their characters personality and actions are reinforced with their lighting setup. Therefore the
protagonists consist of Bruce Wayne, Batman, Harvey Dent and Jim Gordon. Bruce Wayne s lighting
allows him to be seen as a bright character. The high key setup allows for a heroic essence to his
character and allows the audience to not fear him, and more importantly side with his actions above all
other. He is the alter ego of the Batman, which allows us to understand the back story and personality

Transgenic or Genetically Modified (GM) crops are plants used in agriculture that have been
genetically modified using recombinant DNA technology. The aim for GM plants/crops is to express a
gene or a trait that is not found in the species of the plant. The scientist that modify the plants insert a
foreign gene into the plant s original DNA. As a result to the modification, the plant receives
characteristics within the genetic code. Most, GM plants become resistant to pesticides, however there
are other variables within transgenic crops. Since the genes of humans, plants, and bacteria are all
created from the same genetic material; scientist have a variety of genes to choose from, when
modifying. Within plants, genetic modification occurs in steps . There are five major steps in the
development of a genetically engineered crop. But for every step, it is very important to know the
biochemical and physiological mechanisms of action, regulation of gene expression, and safety of the
gene and the gene product to be utilized 1. The first step is mapping; Mapping is locating and isolating
the desired gene before extraction. Once the gene is extracted, it must be cloned. Many copies are
made of the isolated Gene; gene cloning isolates the gene from the entire extracted DNA. Once it is
cloned, the gene of interest is designed and packaged so that it can be controlled and properly
expressed inside the host plant. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) is the cloning process, and it

Medical Procedures During The Nazi Rule
Medical Procedures During the Nazi Rule
During the Nazi Party s rise to power, it held a strong influence on not only the German people, but as
well as all of conquered Europe. It was able to coerce regular citizens into joining one of the most
destructive genocides recorded in history by turning them into antisemites, and, in some regards,
murderers. It is important to learn from history about the power a government has over the influence
of their citizens, particularly in the field of medicine. The main purpose of this paper is to describe the
Nazi party s role in the development and research German medicine, specifically on: the physicians,
that became loyal to the state rather than their patients; eugenics, in which the goal was to spawn a
master race ; human experimentation, which was done on whoever the state deemed undesirable; and,
finally, racial purification, the elimination of individuals that the state believed lead a life unworthy of
life .This paper does not note all of the experiments, victims, perpetrators involved or the locations in
which the medical atrocities were carried out. It will focus mainly on the idea of racial purification,
specifically in Auschwitz Birkenau, the main extermination camp, providing the accounts of several
victims that were subject to the medical experiments, and addressing the medical community,
specifically Dr. Josef Mengele, as perpetrators of the genocide of millions of people.

The Impact Of Fair Value On Financial Reporting Essay
The most controversial topic of today s time in the world of accounting is fair value. However, one
common point of confusion is the scale of businesses affected by fair value, and when fair value came
onto the scene. According to Robert Herz and Linda MacDonald ...the use of fair value in financial
reporting is not new. In fact, it has been in place for decades, principally for financial assets. But even
then, fair value is not required for all assets. (2008) The idea of using fair value measurements goes
back at least to the 1930 s when Kenneth MacNeal wrote Truth in Accounting. It wasn t until 1993,
however, until the FASB released SFAS 115. SFAS 115 addresses the accounting and reporting for
investments in equity securities that have readily determinable fair values and for all investments in
debt securities. (FASB 1993) In 2006 the FASB released SFAS 157, which established a framework
for measuring fair value. SFAS 157 also requires significantly more disclosures about fair value
estimates than ever before. (FASB 2006) Finally the FASB issues SFAS 159, which permits entities to
choose to measure many financial instruments and certain other items at fair value. (FASB 2007)
These statements set the stage for the discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of fair value.
Also discussed, will be the problems with implementation of a full fair value measurement system.
That discussion will be followed by a brief summary.

The speaker asserts that as we investigate about history we cannot realize truth directly, consequently,
we assemble different histories to show and demonstrate historical evidence as bona fide ones, and
therefore, all historians are storytellers. This is an extreme approach, moreover, many historical events
can be known directly by reliable evidence. Firstly, I agree with speaker that there are a lot of
storytellers who are wrongly considered as historians, although this is an improved translation of the
speaker s statement. Many so called historians try to disguise the historical events so as to implicate
what they want to be believed as truth for the aims of their party and so forth. They change the truth of

How Did The Influence Of Hinduism During The Vedic Era
It is widely known that the Vedic Era was one of the most influential time periods in ancient history.
This is largely due to how the composition of the Vedas was made during this time, which was an
essential set of texts that greatly shaped Hinduism. This impact on Hinduism however would not been
a success without Sanskrit. During this time Sanskrit was able to completely change the method of
communication and along with having influence on the Vedas and Hinduism, Sanskrit, most likely
arriving from outside of India encountered Ancient Asia, specifically during the beginning of the
Vedic Era, became central to South Asian culture, language and religion by 500 BCE. Other influences
of Sanskrit can be observed through culture, language, and belief systems.
The Vedic Era can be described best as the time period when the Vedas were being composed. This
took place between 1500 500 BCE. Although the Vedic Era is famous for the composition of The
Vedas, a series of texts essential to Hinduism, it is also known for the development of the Sanskrit
language and other valuable advancements that further influenced the history of India and the
surrounding areas. Some of these valuable advancements include mathematics, especially algebra and
geometry, as well as early astronomy and planetary observations, many of which can be found in the
historical Vedic texts. Some other notable advancements made during this time include technology.

Essay on The Immorality of Child Labor
The Immorality of Child Labor
Child labor is a serious moral issue. There have been many controversial debates over whether it
should be legal or not. Two different viewpoints on the subject exist. Many argue that child labor is
morally wrong and that the children should not work, no matter how poverty stricken their family
might be. Advocates and major corporations that support child labor argue that it is good because it
gives poverty stricken families a source of income.
Child labor first appeared with the development of domestic systems (when people became civilized).
It was widely practiced in England, America, and other countries during the 16th 18th centuries.

Anorexia And Bulimia Nervosa
Introduction
In today s society, media is everywhere around us, and it can have a greater impact on us than we
believe and/or like to admit. According to James G Webster, media can be defined as a way of
communicating with the general public; newspapers, magazines, television, and billboards. Being
exposed to mass media s glorification of slim and modified bodies can over time lead to a negative
body image, and that possibly leading to extreme dieting and mental health problems, such as an
eating disorder.
Body image involves one s perception, imagination, emotions, and physical sensations of and about
our bodies (Lightstone, 2012). Lightstone also argued that body image is not based on facts, but in our
nature and influenced more by self esteem than by actual attractiveness judged by others. According to
Lightstone, body image can change depending on mood, environment, and mental health. A
dissatisfied body image can lead to dieting, and sometimes even eating disorders. The eating disorders

Antigone’s Purpose

Antigone s Purpose
In the story of Antigone, originally written by Sophocles, explains the story, of a woman who stands
up for her own beliefs against the king. At the time of Sophocles, women had little power and
authority. They were expected to listen to their husband, king, or any man that speaks to or asks a
woman of something. The story starts up where the story of Oedipus ends, in his death. Trouble and
war are about to begin in Thebes, so Antigone travels there to try and stop what may become of her
family and country. From my observations, this story can be analyzed in multiple ways, whether it is
about the struggles of women, defying the higher power, or responding to the will of the gods. It is

To Antigone, it is not necessary that someone should obey their leader at all times. She believes what
Creon declared to happen to her brothers was unfair and that the gods were telling her she needed to
bury her brother. Antigone was unapproved to the treatment of women in these times, and that the king
must be obeyed in all causes. She believed the gods were the true powers, and bad things would come
upon you if you did not cooperate with their requests. When Haemon comes into the story,
acknowledged as Antigone s fiancée, who is the son of Creon, makes it clear why Antigone was even
still alive. Although Creon was cruel and often harsh, there was still something or someone holding
him back from simply killing her. Haemon told his father it would be wrong to kill Antigone and
would bring great mourning to the people of Thebes following her death. He wants Creon to be open
to others views, but Creon responds by calling Haemon a woman s slave for backing up a woman and
not his own father. A blind prophet advises Creon that he should properly bury Polyneices and release
Antigone. He says if he does not he will greatly anger the gods, and might create his own misfortune
for his disobedience. Possibly leading to his own death. As Creon ponders his possibilities and future,

Although he has identified the challenges, he also recommends ways of implementing innovation in
government. Let s first start off by identifying what Borins has identified under the five building
blocks of innovation in his report.
Ways of Acting:
In The Challenge of Innovating in Government, Sandford Borins (2006) report first identifies the five
innovation building blocks. The first building block was the use of a system approach. According to
Borins (2006), from a previous study, approached the data with his own classification scheme for the
characteristics of the innovations, partnership, which was one component. Borins (2006) identified
that there are varying levels of complexity and comprehensiveness of organizational partners and
cooperative arrangements.
Building block two: the use of information technology systems in large government are large and
expensive, and experience has shown that some systems have been costly and disastrous failures
(Borins, 2006). Information technology is widely considered as a way of innovation, but with the
technologic advancement it has been a challenge for government.

initiatives often involved applications of the Pareto rule (20 percent of the cases are responsible for 80

  • 2. Lenovo- technology company Introduction about the company One of the largest technology company in the world, Lenovo had a humble beginning as a small Chinese firm founded in 1984. The company showed modest growth throughout the rest of the 20th century. It wasn t until the company s acquisition of IBM s personal computer business in 2005 (Martin, 2014) that the company began to gain prominence in the technology industry. Lenovo s innovation and strategic decision making has allowed the company to evolve on a global platform and enabled it to become one of the leading technology companies in the market today. Company history review Lenovo was originally founded as Legend Holdings in China in 1984 by a group of young Chinese engineers. The company did not show a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. The Role Of Dance Therapy For The Lgbt Community Essay I earned my Bachelor s in Neuroscience from Centenary College of Louisiana, where I graduated with departmental honors. While in college, I co founded a nonprofit that aimed to provide support for the transgender community, especially those who were homeless veterans. I led workshops at medical schools to teach future doctors how to provide comprehensive care to the LGBT community. Through this grassroots community organizing, I realized current approaches to medicine and research focus on gender in binary ways that leave out transgender populations. These experiences sparked my passion in biocultural anthropology and holistic human health. My interest in human biology began when I worked as a part of a team that investigated dance therapy as a form of treatment for the symptoms of Parkinson s disease. I conducted interviews in which participants completed quality of life assessments. I learned about the significance of combining subjective and objective measures of stress. The main findings were that after months of therapy, patients showed slight improvement in tremor and gait as well as positive emotional life assessments. As a team member, I collected data and presented research at the Society for Neuroscience. Most research on Parkinson s focuses on cellular mechanisms in brain functioning instead of treating symptoms as a product of environment. In order to apply this framework to marginalized populations in my research, I had to learn how to successfully engage in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Implicit Gender Bias Essay Implicit Gender Bias and Women in STEM Fields Most people consider themselves as rational, reasoning individuals who make decisions after considering the facts at hand. Research suggests that this is often not the case, with implicit bias at work shaping one s responses. Researchers at Cornell University have defined implicit bias as unconscious, unintentional bias (Royer, Hido Slotnick, 2017). Predictors of implicit bias include socio economic status, gender, ethnicity, childhood experience, and cultural experience (Cooley, Payne Phillips, 2013). Unlike explicit bias which reflects attitudes or beliefs that one endorses on a conscious level, implicit bias refers to attitudes or stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions and decisions in an unconscious manner resulting from subtle cognitive processes that often operate at a level below conscious awareness and without intentional control (Gyan, n.d.). Of these, implicit gender bias affects the health and social wellbeing of women, as well as disadvantages women economically and in the workplace. As such implicit gender bias is endemic within the scientific, technological, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields, and this bias can disadvantage women pursing these careers (Moss Racusin, Dovidio, Brescoll, Graham Handelsman, 2012). The importance of further study of mitigating interventions of this implicit gender bias is clear. Our hypothesis is that implicit gender bias related to women in STEM fields will ... Stochastic Calculus Solution Manual Stochastic Calculus for Finance, Volume I and II by Yan Zeng Last updated: August 20, 2007 This is a solution manual for the two volume textbook Stochastic calculus for finance, by Steven Shreve. If you have any comments or find any typos/errors, please email me at yz44@cornell.edu. The current version omits the following problems. Volume I: 1.5, 3.3, 3.4, 5.7; Volume II: 3.9, 7.1, 7.2, 7.5 7.9, 10.8, 10.9, 10.10. Acknowledgment I thank Hua Li (a graduate student at Brown University) for reading through this solution manual and communicating to me several mistakes/typos. 1 1.1. Stochastic Calculus for Finance I: The Binomial Asset Pricing Model 1. The Binomial No Arbitrage Pricing Model Proof. If we get the up sate, then X1 = X1 (H) = ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Remark: This illustrates an important point. The fair price of a stock cannot be determined by the risk neutral pricing, as seen below. Suppose S1 (H) and S1 (T ) are given, we could have two current prices, S0 and S0 . Correspondingly, we can get u, d and u , d . Because they are determined by S0 and S0 , respectively, it s not surprising that risk neutral pricing formula always holds, in both cases. That is, 1+r−d u−d S1 (H) S0 = + u−1−r u−d S1 (T ) 1+r , S0 = 1+r−d u −d S1 (H) + u −1−r u −d S1 (T ) 1+r . Essentially, this is because risk neutral pricing relies on fair price=replication cost. Stock as a replicating component cannot determine its own fair price via the risk neutral pricing formula. 1.4. Proof. Xn+1 (T ) = = ∆n dSn + (1 + r)(Xn − ∆n Sn ) ∆n Sn (d − 1 − r) + (1 + r)Vn pVn+1 (H) + q Vn+1 (T ) ˜ ˜ Vn+1 (H) − Vn+1 (T ) (d − 1 − r) + (1 + r) = u−d 1+r = p(Vn+1 (T ) − Vn+1 (H)) + pVn+1 (H) + q Vn+1 (T ) ˜ ˜ ˜ = pVn+1 (T ) + q Vn+1 (T ) ˜ ˜ = Vn+1 (T ). 1.6. 2 Proof. The bank s trader should set up a replicating portfolio whose payoff is the opposite of the option s payoff. More precisely, we solve the equation (1 + r)(X0 − ∆0 S0 ) + ∆0 S1 = −(S1 − K)+ . 1 Then X0 = −1.20 and ∆0 = − 2 . This means the trader should sell short 0.5 share of stock, put the income 2 into a money market account, and then transfer 1.20 into a separate money market account. At time one, the portfolio consisting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Issues And Risks Facing Sel After reviewing the current situations, I have identified the following issues and risks facing SEL. An overview of the implications of the proposed IPO, and a brief analysis of the three accounting packages under consideration are also given in the memo. Weaknesses in financial management SEL has been weak in financial management. Both of you were not actively involved in it. Nor did SEL have sufficient qualified accounting staff to undertake these critical responsibilities. For example, there were no such roles who conducted business/operation planning, forecasting and budgeting, and financial analysis. SEL lacks necessary tools to perform these functions either. The poor planning and forecasting contributed to the cash flow shortage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I would suggest we tighten the policies and procedures, deposit cheques more frequently (preferably daily), review and approve invoices in time. The recent growth in business, especially the new contracts, implies a significant increase of accounting transactions. It calls for qualified full time accounting staff (rather than the current inexperienced part time accountant), and sound financial management, which involves policies and procedures, documents and tools, to help us keep the operation on track and achieve the business goals. Being your new controller, I would be responsible for business planning. I will be mostly involved in financial forecasting and budgeting and will help in the financial analysis. I would recommend that we hire one cost accountant to conduct cost analysis and pricing; one full time accountant to perform the routine accounting functions and assist in ad hoc accounting activities. We should also develop useful tools to help undertake these tasks. Official reports for forecasting/budgeting, financial analysis and cash flow management should be prepared and reviewed on a regular basis, which would help in short term and long term planning and decision making. Internal control perspective From an internal control perspective, I would emphasize that SEL needs to strengthen its control and monitor. Should we go public as proposed, our ... • 8. Oedipus Tragic Flaw Analysis Oedipus the king has a temper tragic flaw it s an anger that leads him to many unknown problems due to killing his own father, king Laius, which happened at the crossroads, however his violent temper has a good candidate in it which is due to a tragic flaw. Furthermore, Oedipus has Pride which leads to identifying himself as a good character. Oedipus main downfall unwillingness leads to his faithfully fate. Many people don t like him and accuse him of many things that he hasn t done. Yet, many people support him like Jocasta they encourage him to keep going forward and keep being open minded, not to measure himself, and to never give up. However, due to many things he has been accused of Jocasta comforts him by telling him that there are no truth in oracles prophets and she has plenty of proof. Furthermore, a long time ago an oracle told Laius a story that supposedly his own son would kill him, yet results came in and said he and Jocasta gave their monthly old son of a shepherd to leave on a hillside to die with a pin between its ankles. However, he was killed by three robbers not by his own son, one of Jocasta proofs that the oracle was wrong. Something about her story puts Oedipus into trouble, she said that Laius was killed at an intersection where three roads meet, which reminds Oedipus of an incident that happened in the past. Furthermore, when he killed a stranger at an intersection where three roads met, he then asks her to describe Laius, and her details match his memory. However, Jocasta tells him that the only witnesses there are to Laius s death is a herdsman, which he swore that robbers killed him. Oedipus then witnesses and interrogates them. However, Jocasta helps him to be the bigger and better person. While Jocasta and Oedipus wait for the man to arrive, they ask why he seems so troubled. Oedipus then talks to her about the story of his past. When he was young an old man he met told him that he wasn t his father s son. He then automatically and asked his parents about that and of course they denied it. However, he still had a doubt about that and wondered why the man told him that. Yet, he eventually went to an oracle to find out the truth to see who his real parents were. When he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stereotypes In Shakespeare s Othello In Shakespeare s tragedy Othello, the title character is a 16th century Moorish general of the Venetian army who, because of the cultural and historical background of the play s setting, the playwright, and the original intended audience, is portrayed as both well respected for his military prowess and disparaged for his race. Similarly, because of today s American society both celebrates the richness of latin food, music, and language which creates a sort of ignorance due to the fact that many Non Hispanics rely on them in many ways and yet consistently robs them of their own unique cultures when they are all assumed to be Mexican or being an illegal immigrant. Another stereotype for Hispanics is that in Mexico, the country borders in the United States. This is considered as the biggest and top most drug producing country. The males are specifically stereotyped as drug dealers and drug users. However, Hispanic males are not known as dealers or drug users because even women and men are so, on every race. It is unlucky that Hispanic men are being stereotyped on this way. This quote by the author tells us how people think male hispanics are and are viewed by others. These two quotes tells us how many non hispanics believe or assume in one way or another that hispanics are Mexicans or speak Mexican when the language of Hispanic is different because there s a lot of hispanic countries. Although hispanics have been described negatively by other people, there has been a lot of contributions that hispanics have give to the United States and a lot of positive views towards them. Yes! According to Louis Barbash, a television producer, 3 out of 10 basketball players graduate, while 4 out of 10 football players graduate. Many athletes emerge from college illiterate, without a degree, and without a professional athletic career. The system is cheating these individuals. It is a known fact that 44% of all African Americans in collegiate sports expect to play professionally. A college athlete has a better chance of becoming an astronaut than they do playing professionally. One athlete out of 10,000 will ever play professionally. Athletes are dominated, managed and controlled. They do not receive an education or wage commensurate with their contribution to economic returns. They are making millions for universities while receiving nothing. Louis Barbash, a writer and producer, feels that the NCAA has failed athletes terribly. They have two options: to professionalize sports or to meet the Ivy League ideal (equal standards and expectations for athletes and nonathletes). If they choose to professionalize college sports, then each team acts as a minor league. The average salary has been proposed around 17,000 dollars. Athletes can also take classes if they want with no specific time limit for completion. This act would have to be implemented by NCAA or legislation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. U.s. Federal Election Commissions In the land of politics, the more money that one has is the better. This is no exception when it comes to campaigns and elections. The goal of any political campaign is to get their nominee the votes they need to win. Whether this is through negative or positive campaign tactics, one thing can fuel a campaigns success is money. Money in a campaign means that more advertising can be bought. This is the perfect way to get the candidate seen by the public and is also a way to paint a negative picture of the other candidate. However, questions can be raised where does the money that funds campaigns or campaign advertisement come from, should there be regulations imposed to monitor where it comes from and what part of the campaign does this money fund? Questions like these and more were answered in the Supreme Court Case Citizens United Vs. Federal Election Commissions and many were not happy about this ruling. • 13. Pink Ribbon Clogs Breast Cancer Action (BCA) coined the term pink washing as part of their Think Before You Pink® campaign. According to BCA a pink washer is a company or organization that claims to care about breast cancer by promoting a pink ribbon product, but at the same time produces, manufactures and/or sells products that are linked to the disease. These companies all give themselves a pat on the back for spreading awareness, but all the while they are really just profiting off of breast cancer. Example one: In 2010, Dansko Shoe Company sold pink ribbon clogs. Consumers likely thought that a portion of their purchase of pink ribbon clogs went to a breast cancer program. However, purchase of the pink ribbon clogs was not connected to Dansko s donation none of the portion of the sales went toward their already set donation of $25,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. No matter whether or not you bought the clogs, their donation was the same. Example two: In 2010, Reebok marketed a line of pink ribbon emblazoned footwear and apparel at prices ranging from$50 to $100. Though it heavily promoted the fact that some of their pink ribbon product sales would be donated to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, they set a limit of $750,000, regardless of how many items were sold, and there was no mechanism in place to alert consumers once the maximum donation had been met. ... • 14. Measuring The Distributional Characteristics Of L2 Input... Given the two necessary conditions for measuring the distributional characteristics of L2 input stated above, it becomes obvious that input variability differs fundamentally from the variability in a TL construction (cf. section 2.3.2). The same conclusion can be drawn from the fact that non robust input and the TL variable structure are proposed as two different, though closely related and interacting, forces of interlanguage fossilization (Han, 2013) (see section 2.3.1). For simplicity, variability in a TL construction will be referred to as construction variability in the remainder of this dissertation proposal. To recapitulate, Han s (2014) conceptualization of the variability dimension of L2 input robustness consists of the following levels: (a) one to one, or one TL form encoding one meaning; (b) one to many, namely one TL form encoding multiple meanings across multiple contexts, or (c) within the same context; and (d) many to one, or multiple TL forms encoding the same or a similar meaning (see section 1.3). Though identical in terminology and entailment on the surface, construction variability signifies (in)consistency in the form meaning function relations of the TL in the prescriptive, categorical sense, and is generally stable in distribution. Input variability denotes a TL construction s (in)consistency in the form meaning function mappings in discourse episodes that make up the primary linguistic data immediately accessible to L2 learners. At this time and even up to the mid 1970 s, most colleges and institutes were single sexed schools. They, at that time, only wanted to teach and build young men to transform the world; not women. The state arguably stated that women would not be able to hand the level of training involved in going to VMI (Justia). However, once most other colleges and institutions opened admissions, VMI still stood their ground as a male only institution. The question they then faced was whether or not their tradition to be male only was constitutional? The case of VMI went to the district courts, and was deemed to be a tradition and that this tradition was accepted. However, the Fourth Circuit rejected the decision. They found the policy in which they made admission decisions unconstitutional. In response Virginia tried coming up with a women only institution that would equal up to VMI. Transgenic or Genetically Modified (GM) crops are plants used in agriculture that have been genetically modified using recombinant DNA technology. The aim for GM plants/crops is to express a gene or a trait that is not found in the species of the plant. The scientist that modify the plants insert a foreign gene into the plant s original DNA. As a result to the modification, the plant receives characteristics within the genetic code. Most, GM plants become resistant to pesticides, however there are other variables within transgenic crops. Since the genes of humans, plants, and bacteria are all created from the same genetic material; scientist have a variety of genes to choose from, when modifying. Within plants, genetic modification occurs in steps . There are five major steps in the development of a genetically engineered crop. But for every step, it is very important to know the biochemical and physiological mechanisms of action, regulation of gene expression, and safety of the gene and the gene product to be utilized 1. The first step is mapping; Mapping is locating and isolating the desired gene before extraction. Once the gene is extracted, it must be cloned. Many copies are made of the isolated Gene; gene cloning isolates the gene from the entire extracted DNA. However, one common point of confusion is the scale of businesses affected by fair value, and when fair value came onto the scene. According to Robert Herz and Linda MacDonald ...the use of fair value in financial reporting is not new. In fact, it has been in place for decades, principally for financial assets. But even then, fair value is not required for all assets. (2008) The idea of using fair value measurements goes back at least to the 1930 s when Kenneth MacNeal wrote Truth in Accounting. It wasn t until 1993, however, until the FASB released SFAS 115. SFAS 115 addresses the accounting and reporting for investments in equity securities that have readily determinable fair values and for all investments in debt securities. (FASB 1993) In 2006 the FASB released SFAS 157, which established a framework for measuring fair value. SFAS 157 also requires significantly more disclosures about fair value estimates than ever before. (FASB 2006) Finally the FASB issues SFAS 159, which permits entities to choose to measure many financial instruments and certain other items at fair value. (FASB 2007) These statements set the stage for the discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of fair value. Also discussed, will be the problems with implementation of a full fair value measurement system. That discussion will be followed by a brief summary. II. Methodology The foundation of this paper ... Two different viewpoints on the subject exist. Many argue that child labor is morally wrong and that the children should not work, no matter how poverty stricken their family might be. Advocates and major corporations that support child labor argue that it is good because it gives poverty stricken families a source of income. • 36. Anorexia And Bulimia Nervosa Introduction In today s society, media is everywhere around us, and it can have a greater impact on us than we believe and/or like to admit. According to James G Webster, media can be defined as a way of communicating with the general public; newspapers, magazines, television, and billboards. Being exposed to mass media s glorification of slim and modified bodies can over time lead to a negative body image, and that possibly leading to extreme dieting and mental health problems, such as an eating disorder. Body image involves one s perception, imagination, emotions, and physical sensations of and about our bodies (Lightstone, 2012). Lightstone also argued that body image is not based on facts, but in our nature and influenced more by self esteem than by actual attractiveness judged by others. According to Lightstone, body image can change depending on mood, environment, and mental health. A dissatisfied body image can lead to dieting, and sometimes even eating disorders. • 37. Antigone‚Äôs Purpose Brooks Fridey Antigone s Purpose In the story of Antigone, originally written by Sophocles, explains the story, of a woman who stands up for her own beliefs against the king. At the time of Sophocles, women had little power and authority. They were expected to listen to their husband, king, or any man that speaks to or asks a woman of something. The story starts up where the story of Oedipus ends, in his death. Trouble and war are about to begin in Thebes, so Antigone travels there to try and stop what may become of her family and country. From my observations, this story can be analyzed in multiple ways, whether it is about the struggles of women, defying the higher power, or responding to the will of the gods. It is said ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To Antigone, it is not necessary that someone should obey their leader at all times. She believes what Creon declared to happen to her brothers was unfair and that the gods were telling her she needed to bury her brother. Antigone was unapproved to the treatment of women in these times, and that the king must be obeyed in all causes. She believed the gods were the true powers, and bad things would come upon you if you did not cooperate with their requests. When Haemon comes into the story, acknowledged as Antigone s fiancée, who is the son of Creon, makes it clear why Antigone was even still alive. Although Creon was cruel and often harsh, there was still something or someone holding him back from simply killing her. Haemon told his father it would be wrong to kill Antigone and would bring great mourning to the people of Thebes following her death. He wants Creon to be open to others views, but Creon responds by calling Haemon a woman s slave for backing up a woman and not his own father. A blind prophet advises Creon that he should properly bury Polyneices and release Antigone. He says if he does not he will greatly anger the gods, and might create his own misfortune for his disobedience. Possibly leading to his own death. As Creon ponders his possibilities and future, he finally decides to release Antigone and bury Polyneices. As he thought he was then making the right decision, he would soon find out what his ...
