Millennialism and Apocalypse Thought in S. T. Coleridge...
missing some works cited Tintern Abbey : Millennialism and Apocalypse Thought in S. T. Coleridge
and William Wordsworth s Poetics Storming of the Bastille 1789 [1] During and in the aftermath of
the French Revolution, millennialist thought independent of the myriad of economic and historical
reasons for its precipitation influenced many authors. Many people perceived the French Revolution
as a foreshadowing of an Apocalypse that would usher in a new millenarian epoch, one levelling
social distinctions between people and bringing about what was believed to be Christ s absolute rule.
Samuel Taylor Coleridge was such a writer influenced by millennialist and apocalyptic belief in the
late eighteenth century. His early writings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Messiah s destined victory! (149 151, 161 177) Such examples of sensational and supernatural
depictions of destruction and war, however, are limited to Coleridge s earlier poetry. David Calleo
suggests that by the time the communal experiment of Pantisocracy had come to a close and Coleridge
himself had become slightly older, that he lost much of his earlier political idealism, and [w]ith it . . .
vanished his spontaneous and effortless vision of divine purpose in all things . . . [9] Further
mitigating factors, such as The French Revolution s apparent reversal of many of its former ideals to
foster liberty and democracy to policies of open military aggression, shifted Coleridge s thinking
about a manifest millennial reign of Jesus through a predestined social apocalypse. His focus became
one of criticism and active intervention of the poet as an agent of social change. In contrast to his

A Peaceful Day Of A Crummy Condo
It was a peaceful day in a crummy condo. Kade and I were sitting in his room. An hour of AP Social
Studies homework and 7th grade English homework in when a gust of wind came through the closed
window. How do I put this, there was a noise. A very dim, subtle noise. A ZING,ssive, easygoing way,
and the women said to us in a soft, calm voice, We are your parents, we want to take you home . My
brother and I were abandoned when he was 6 months old. One morning my father was making me
chocolate chip pancakes and the next, I was alone. Imagine a five year old calling 911 saying your
parents were abducted by aliens. That s what I wanted to believe. After I turned 10, I realized that
every prayer wasn t worth it. My parents were never coming back. My brother and I were taken to
Child Services the next day and we sent to Billy and Jen s house, me scared little 5 year old about to
take on a world of responsibilities. We got home and Billy gave me a puppy and told me that she was
there for me when they weren t and to take care of my brother. They left me there for a week, so I
called Miss Tammy, the child services lady and she took me to a new home. We stayed there until I
turned 13. It was a group home and they gave us food, shelter, and, educational opportunities. But no
true compassion or a parent like figure. When I realized that we were never going to get the love we
deserve, I took Kade in the middle of the night and found an abandoned condo. It had all the amenities

A Dollhouse And The Glass Menagerie
One of the most important thematic bridges connecting two of the seminal works of Henrik Ibsen,
author of A Dollhouse, and Tennessee Williams, playwright of The Glass Menagerie, is abandonment
and its effects on the family dynamic. Each work s protagonist Tom in The Glass Menagerie and Nora
in A Dollhouse actively undergoes the process of starting afresh in life by abandoning the strict
limitations of domesticity in search of spiritual and financial stability. While both characters ultimately
end up declaring their independence from their families, the consequences they face in the aftermath
are uniquely a result of the specific dynamic they suffer from in their respective works. In Nora s case,
the tight grip of her husband Torvald as well as her dubious under the table deal with Krogstad
highlights her capricious and shady nature, while Tom eagerly fits the mold of a petulant, ... Show

Nora s sudden transformation from dutiful housewife to fiercely independent spinster with a mind of
her own is bound to keep some readers confused because of Ibsen s theatrical decision to keep Nora s
thoughts largely internal during the height of the play s dramatic tension (Ibsen 73). Williams,
primarily through the framing of The Glass Menagerie as a memory play, places the audience more
squarely in tune with Tom s psychological justifications for leaving his family through his constant
breaking of the fourth wall, emphasizing that the tricks in his pockets will come out in full view for
the audience to see to fully understand his abandonment of the Wingfields (Williams 29). Tom is
finally spurned by the lingering presence of his father s adventurous spirit, symbolized through his
internment in picture form on the Wingfields mantle, to act upon impulse and finally escape the
restrictive bonds that living with his mother and sister has placed upon

Trifles Mission Statement Analysis
Financial Mission Statement The Children s Museum of Indianapolis Financial Mission Statement:
Our mission is to create learning experiences across the arts, sciences, and humanities that will
transform the lives of our guests. To do this, our board and directors will be in charge of raising and
rationing the allocated funds and disperse them among the departments to ensure that each department
has the funds that they need to maintain the highest level of efficiency and promote growth. Each
department head is responsible for creating budgets that accurately represent their financial needs and
use their given funds to create a working environment that will promote staff productivity. The
majority of the apportioned funds will be put towards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Giving the responsibilities of creating and executing the budget to department heads or at least a
committee of qualified staff members is a educated move because they have the best understanding of
the day to day operations and needs of their departments. If any problems did arise within the budget
of any department, then the power would shift up to the director and the board members. They would
be responsible for raising additional money to fill any income gaps they find reasonable (Lord 161).
The next category that the financial mission statement tries to fill is priorities. Maintaining current
exhibitions and collections is the main priority because they are what make money. The main
collection critical to the infrastructure of a museum and are what keep the public coming back. Special
exhibitions are important and should be funded because they bring in the most press and public
excitement, but they often lose money because of indirect costs that come with them (Anderson 5 6).
Making branding a priority is a smart move because it broadens the museums reach, and creates a new
form of revenue with the selling of museum specific

Cape Florida State Park Essay
Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park rests on 400 acres protected land. Occupying the southern third of
the island of Key Biscayne, this natural respite for birds and people alike falls just south of Miami
Beach. This park was rightly named for The Miami News editor who fought to protect the land and
preserve the Key in its natural state.
Along the east side of the park, one and a quarter miles of sandy beachfront boasts open views of the
Atlantic Ocean. This beautiful area offers visitors access to warm waters and white sands. With a reef
six miles offshore, the waters are protected and gentle waves lap at the feet of both children and
adults.

The park and beach claim a role in history as well. A 2004 historical marker identifies this area as part
of the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Trail. Using these waterways to escape to
the Bahamas and settle on the Andros Islands, this beach offered sights of a more abundant life. In the
early 1820s, 300 American slaves found freedom aboard 27 sloops and additional canoes sailing from
Florida to the Bahamas.
Cape Florida Light
Home to the Cape Florida Light, this shoreline holds even more history. Built in 1825, this light is the
oldest standing structure in Greater Miami and South Florida today. While restored years earlier, this
lighthouse was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.
The claim to fame for this landmark is that it is the only lighthouse attacked by Indians. After the
attack, the U.S. Army built a base on these shores to protect the land and sea from more invaders.
Tours of the light and the lighthouse keeper s cottage present guests with the history of this shoreline.

Analysis Of Nucor s The On The Industry Of Steel
Nucor takes a simple approach to succeeding in the industry of steel. At its mini mills, Nucor produces
hot and cold rolled steel, steel joists, and metal buildings. It has the capability to produce more than 26
million tons of steel a year. Being one of North America s largest recycler of scrap metal, it produces
steel by melting scrap in electric arc furnaces. Most products are sold to steel service centers,
manufactures, and fabricators. Subsidiary Harris Steel fabricates rebar for highways and bridges and
other construction projects. Its David J. Joseph Company unit processes and brokers metals, pig iron,
hot briquetted iron, and direct reduced iron. In 2014 Nucor recycled 19 million tons of scrap steel.
Their mission is as follows: Nucor is made up of more than 20,000 teammates whose goal is to take
care of our customers by being the safest, highest quality, lowest cost, most productive and most
profitable steel and steel products company in the world. We ae committed to doing this while being
cultural and environmental stewards in our communities where we live and work. Their commercial
excellence is based off of five principles: stay market driven, forge strong and loyal relationships, be

One major change that could be made would be to replace paper towels in the bathroom with hand
dryers. According to Restroom Direct, a hand dryer cost $159.00, so if the administration put hand
dryers in eight of the Riverwood bathrooms, it would cost $1,272. On average, a hand dryer costs
between .02 and .18 cents in electricity whereas a paper towel costs 1.00 cent on average per sheet, so
using hand dryers would vastly reduce the amount of electricity used as well the amount of paper
wasted. Another way the Riverwood administration could help the environment would be to start a
composting program. This program could gain volunteers through a compost club and through
partnerships with other clubs and societies like Beta Club and the National Honor Society so that
students could receive service hours for helping with the compost program or donating needed
materials. According to the Green Mountain Farm to School initiative, the necessary materials for
starting a school compost program are at least five 5 gallon buckets, a scale, work gloves, 1 cart for
housing buckets, a shovel, a supply of hay or manure, cloth rags, a compost thermometer, and sifting
screen. The school could get many of these materials from donations but if they were to buy them, the
price would be approximately $175.19. According to Amazon, five 5 gallon buckets would cost
$52.35, a scale would be $15.95, a pair of work gloves would be $12.44, a cart would be $37.02, a
shovel would be $14.94, a small bale of hay would be approximately $4.38 (according to the
University of Wisconsin), a five pound bag of manure would cost $11.12, cloth rags could be donated
by parents, a compost thermometer would cost $26.99, and a sifting screen would cost

The First Five Stages Of The Mark Knapp Model Of...
Introduction: Jeff and I interviewed Jim and Gloria Langman, his grandpa and grandma. Jim and
Gloria have gone through the first five stages of the Mark Knapp model of relational stages which
include initiating, experimenting, intensifying, integrating, and bonding. They have been married for
49 years and most people who have been together that long have a tendency to go through the next
five stages. These stages describe how people grow apart. Jim and Gloria s relationship is unique in
the fact that they did not gone through the last five stages.
Initiating:
The initiating stage is where people people signal that they are interested in building some kind of
relationship with the other person (Adler and Proctor, 256). Jim and Gloria met ... Show more content

They treasured these gifts and still have them to this day.
Integrating:
As their relationship grew stronger they moved into the integrating stage. This stage is characterized
when the parties begin to take on an identity as a social unit... [and] social circles merge. As they grew
closer, they began spending more time at each other s houses. Jim mentioned that he began to get to
know her crazy brothers better and said that they were called hoods . They had a tendency to get him
into trouble. He told us a story about how her brothers were driving an extremely expensive car
around a ramp and were trying to flip it over. Gloria s dad came outside with a belt and Jim took off
running. They also told me about a turning point in their relationship. A few days after their
graduation, Jim was going to go to a girl s graduation party, which happened to be on the same day as
Gloria s. He was going to go to the other girl s party instead of Gloria s, but couldn t find her house.
Coincidentally, in his search for the girl s house in town, he saw Gloria s mom and she told him that
he should go to Gloria s party. He decided to go and according to him, this was the point in their
relationship that they truly knew that they were going to stay together forever, and this when when
their courtship began.
Bonding:
The bonding stage of a relationship occurs when the parties make symbolic public gestures to show
the world that their relationship exists (Adler and

Tobias Wolff Research Paper
Tobias Wolff was born on June 19th, 1945 in Birmingham, Alabama. He is the second son of Arthur
Samuels Wolff and Rosemary Loftus Wolff. At age five, Tobias faced a family breakup where he and
his mother separated from his father and older brother, Geoffrey, due to the instability his father kept
in his family life. Wolff and his mother constantly moved. They lived first in Florida, then moved to
Utah in 1955, and finally settled in the Pacific Northwest, where his mother remarried a troublesome
man, Dwight Hansen. They lived in Newhalem, Washington with Hansen and his three children. Wolff
attended Concrete High School until he left for Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, where he
faked his references to be accepted. He attended Hill School for a year but did not graduate and
instead ended up joining the military for four years. Wolff s family also did not reunite until 1961
when he saw his older brother and father after eleven years. From 1964 to 1968, Wolff served in the

To Kill A Mockingbird Departure From Childhood Analysis
Childhood Flies When Time Passes By Theme: Departure from Childhood Much like youth, a
mockingbird is pure. It sings and spreads joy, but like everything in society, everything even all that is
beautiful, must die. Written by Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird is a novel that captures the
conditions and hardships of the American South during the early twentieth century. It particularly
describes the childhood of two children, Jem and Scout Finch. As a concept that interwines itself into
the progression of the story, the departure from childhood acts as the ultimate theme in the tale. Over
the course of three years, Jem and Scout develop the characteristics of man and woman, gaining
wisdom, and facing the violence and discrimination in Southern society conclusively ... Show more

The departure from childhood is evident by the children fostering the manners and characteristics of
adults. This is demonstrated by Scout striving to become more feminine. When Scout joins the
missionary circle organized by Aunt Alexandra, she is confronted with her desire to become a lawyer.
In reply, she says: Nome, [I] just [want to be] a lady. (Lee 308) As an adamant character, Scout would
not disregard her aspiration to study law unless she has greater ambitions to pursue. Prioritizing her
femininity indicates Scout s increasing interest for her gender. Moreover, she decides to join in social
activities with women, associating herself with females rather than her male friends, Jem and Dill.
Apart from her newfound femininity, Scout exhibits growing maturity. Upon ushering Boo Radley
home after Bob Ewell s homicide, she wondered how many times Dill [herself, and Jem] had stood [at
the street light]... watching [in fear]... [of] the Radley front gate, [which she has entered] for the

This film to me was a classic film. Sam Spade the main character is a detective that is good at his job.
Throughout the film Spade seems to know what to do and what to say in all scenarios. He is man that
can defend himself without a gun. Throughout the film he seems to be the good guy but at times
seems to be playing the other side is well. This is shown when he is friends with one of the deputies
and then at the same time has meetings with Gutman a well known wealthy criminal. It makes the
viewer think about if Spade is really a good guy because of the lack of emotion that he shows after
losing his partner. Also when he is meeting with Gutman it seems as if he is just as interested in
getting the falcon because of the money he want s for helping Gutman and the others get it. Spade is
made to look like a man that has the upper hand and power. This is shown when the two cops walk
right into his bedroom and they know him but accuse him of Miles Archer s murderer. Spade is able to
convince them to look elsewhere to find Archer s murderer. Even when Spade is at Gutman s hotel
room and Gutman is very powerful the viewer anticipates Spade coming out on top when it came to
business. When Spade was trying to figure out what happened he could sense Brigid O Shaughnessy
wasn t telling the truth. Scenarios like this portrayed Spade as a dominant man. Spade had a plan and
it really wasn t known until the final scene when Spade turned O Shaughnessy over for the murder.
The last scene Spade talks about why he has no choice but to turn her over for the murdering of his
partner. It wasn t until this final scene that viewers fully understand that Spade through all of the
scenes had a plan to get to the bottom of his partners murder. In that way Spade was a true detective.
The viewer along with the characters were unable to notice through him that when he was getting
involved with criminals and money that he was after one thing. That thing

The Theme Of Coming Of Age In Literature Essay
The Theme of Coming of Age in Literature
There comes a time is each person s life when they reach the point where they are no longer children,
but adults. The transition from a child into a young adult is often referred to as the quot;coming of age,
quot; or growing up. The time when this transition occurs is different in everyone, since everyone is
an individual and no two people are alike. Certain children reach this stage through a tragic, painful
event which affects them to such extent that they are completely changed. Other children reach this
time by simply growing older and having a better understanding of the world around them. The
coming of age really is indefinite and cannot be marked in general overview. This stage in

Among the African Gusii, for example, girls are at about age nine, boys at twelve years old; Thonga
boys may be sixteen. Boys rites often involve seclusion from women, hazing by older males, test of
manliness, and genital operations, including circumcision. Girls rites are just as bad if not worse with
things like removal of the clitoris. In some places in North America, the ritual is individual where as in
Africa and Oceania the ritual can be collective.
A plain Indian adolescent boy undertakes a vision quest; he goes out alone into the wilderness,
endures hardship, and seeks a vision from his animal guardian spirit; if he gets one, he returns a man.
Yet a different way for these rituals is group rituals. These often takes months or even years, as among
many Australian aboriginal tribes. Novices learn great quantities of information and obey countless
taboos. Instructors are men who are strangers to boys. Ritual pulls the boy from childhood, especially
from his mother. He moves from the category of women and privileged children toward the privileged
one of the adult males. Such rites maintain adult male togetherness and strengthen cultural continuity.
They resolve boys conflicts about sexual identity and establish clear attitudes toward fathers and
mothers. Such rites dramatize the power of older over younger males and state that quot;only women
can make babies: but only men can make

Carl Rogers And Psychodynamic Research
It is inevitable that in psychotherapy there are numerous theories. Theories arise out of scholarly
investigations of ideas on human behavior. Human behavior is an extraordinarily interesting subject
and therefore produces a plethora of ideas from a variety of theorists. These theorists are influenced by
their education, culture, and time period. One influential theorist is Carl Rogers. His contributions to
human behavior have changed many of the theories that preceded him, and his theory contributed to
many theories that followed. I want to explore Client/Person Centered Therapy. This is a type of
therapy that was pioneered by Carl Rogers. This therapy is different because as the name suggests it

Thus, the client would have to be categorized with the assumption that he has experienced in his past
severed free and open communication with his peers . This would mean that a client with clear and
reciprocated communication with her loved ones would not find use in Client Centered Therapy.
According to Truscott (2010), our efforts to feel good about ourselves we tend to try to incorporate
others expectations― thereby denying our true selves and adopting instead a conditional self―
resulting in feelings of disorganization and emotional pain. If, on the other hand, we experience
genuineness, nonjudgmental caring, and empathy in our relationships with others, then we can achieve
our potential as persons (p.70 71). Thus, a client with emotional support can manage his feelings
easier then someone without any emotional support. This still leaves the client with emotional support
with the expectation that she should not have any difficulty with expressing her emotions. It is
apparent that Rogers main goal was to create an environment for the client in which he will eventually
be able to independently understand and express his feelings. Truscott (2010) reported according to
the person centered, humanistic worldview that,

Case Study Bronfenbrenner s Model Of Child Development
Wellness paper
I chose Urie Bronfenbrenner s bioecological model of child development to reflect on my stages of
development. In the microsystem of Bronfenbrenner s model, my early childhood family structure
included my uncle, his wife and their five children. I went to live with my uncle after my mother
passed away. By middle childhood, my uncle and his wife migrated to the United Sates and I went to
live with one of his daughters( Erica) and her two children. They became my construct of what a
family represent. Although I was welcomed in Erica s family, I felt as if I did not belong in their
family. The only place I felt accepted was at school. The classroom represented a place where I
expressed my feelings without being ignored or judged by my peers. Also, I had very observant and
understanding teachers who had the best of my interest. I had one teacher , Mr. Francis, who believed
that I was capable of improving academically. At the end of his class, he noted in my report card that I
had potential to be academically competent, however, I needed to settle down and apply myself to
learning. His comments motivated me to do my best throughout elementary school. During elementary
school, I maintained healthy relationships with my peers. There were never any reports of misconduct
of any misunderstanding amongst my peers. In fact, interactions with them thought me how to engage
in fair play, wait my turn, build trust and explore my environment. In exploring my environment, I

Poor Fish
You can t blame gravity for falling in love. This quote from Albert Einstein raises importance to the
universal theme of true love. This theme can be seen in the Italian story Poor Fish, where the main
character had low self esteem. Later in the story, he met a girl named Ida and started gaining more
confidence in himself. Another story that demonstrates true love is the Chinese The Tall Woman and
Her Short Husband. This story revolves around the lives of a married couple in which the woman is
taller than her spouse. In the story, no one believes that they are in love and they start suspecting that
Mrs. Tall only married for wealth. However, in light of the tragedies that happen, true love is
exemplified in the end. These stories demonstrate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main character in Poor Fish is has a very low self esteem in the beginning, but after meeting a
woman named Ida his confidence started growing to new levels. Moravia uses inferiority to describe
his individulaity in the story; People never know very much about who they are, nor about who is
inferior to them and who superior. As for me, I went too far in the direction of thinking myself inferior
to everybody (Moravia). The main character soon becomes too over confident in himself, and this also
alters how other people see him. The Whitley Abbey School District describes the individuality of the
main characters in The Tall Woman and Her Short Husband, [Mrs. Tall] seems to be the opposite of
her husband in every respect; tall where he is short, thin where he is fat, dull where he is bright. The
author does this to show that, although they don t seem suited at all, their genuine love for each other
makes physical differences irrelevant (Whitley Abbey School District). All these physical and
emotional differences contribute to their own uniqueness. They also go on to describe that this is, at
heart, a love story, describing a couple who stick together through thick and thin, who society has
made outcasts but who have found belonging with each other. The two forget about usual conventions

Legalized Drinking
Legally Drinking In the United States Explaining the topic to any adult, they mainly all have the same
idea; teenagers just want to party, they do not act their age, but sometimes that is not always the case.
Once a male teenager turns eighteen, what does he have to sign up for by law? The draft. Teenagers
are always looked down upon once they become adults, as if older adults think they are not ready for
what is to come, but once they make a mistake against the law, the first thing to happens is they get
tried as an adult. In all of these situations, the same thing is reoccurring; any teenager that turns
eighteen is considered an adult, but if they were to drink, like any other twenty one year old adult,
they would get charged and tried as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many young adults do not find that fair. What the law is saying is any young adult can be tried as an
adult but are not allowed to drink and adult beverage. To me, it does not sound fair to do; if anyone is
considered an adult by law, than by law they should be allowed to do adult things. By law, drinking
alcohol underage, or having possession of alcohol, can be a misdemeanor punishable up to a year in
jail, and a $4,000 fine. Personally, this just does not seem fair. Other examples of misdemeanors are:
simple assaults, disorderly conduct, domestic violence, indecent exposure, prostitution, theft,
trespassing, and vandalism. So, basically, domestic violence and underage drinking could end up
having the same punishment. Publically beating someone up and drinking at someone s house
underage does not seem like they fit in the same category; both are punishable up to a year with a
pretty hefty fine. Also, getting caught drinking and driving has the same punishment as just drinking
underage. To me, this almost encourages drunk driving because it has the same punishment, so, why

Watching Tv Makes You Smarter
Everyday people are shown what has been referred to as an idiot box, boob tube, or telly , but more
familiarly known as T.V. There is something available on T.V. for almost all types of viewers. There
are cartoons for children, shows for seniors, daytime series for housewives, wildlife programs for
nature enthusiasts, and the list is endless. The question is, is watching T.V. helping or hurting us?
While some people argue that watching television is counter productive, stimulating and interesting
shows may actually be benefitting an individual s knowledge. In Watching TV Makes You Smarter
Steven Johnson argues that reality and informative television affects people in positive ways and that

The author sheds light on the idea that younger generations are affected in a positive way when they
watch reality T.V. While viewers are engaged watching a show, they learn to think critically and
analyze environments and situations. Johnson discusses that in watching these shows, even reality TV
for example, kids are forced to think like grown ups: analyzing complex social networks, managing
resources, tracking subtle narrative intertwining s, recognizing long term patterns (Johnson 294). I
believe this could be a positive impact, but could also have some negative outcomes. Johnson believes
that even bad T.V. is good T.V. because it teaches real world situations. This is where I believe the
negative impact of the exposure of T.V. comes into play, because shows with high levels of violence
could lead to the viewer reenacting the seen behavior; this goes for not only violence but other things
as well. He also refers to a show that he considers nourishing; the finished series of 24, that you have
to pay attention, make inferences, track shifting social relationships (Johnson 279). The benefit of
these shows does not come from learning and following the characters actions; it comes from thinking
and questioning situations. Studies done by Matthew Gentzkow, an assistant professor of economics at
the university s graduate school of business, and Jesse M. Shapiro conducted a study collecting data
from cities where preschoolers were exposed to

The Magic Lantern Was Used In The Early Age Of Animation
There were many devices that were used in the early age of animation. One of them was the magic
lantern. The magic lantern was the first device to be made in the early age of animation. It was created
in the 1600 s by Athanasius Kircher. It projected images onto a wall. The magic lantern that
Athanasius Kircher created was a small box. A hole was cut into a side and a light source was placed
inside the box such as a candle. There was a curved mirror behind the light source, and in front of the
light source was a lens. The mirror reflects the light from the light source and it goes through the lens
and out of the hole in the box. If a glass slide with an image was placed in front of the hole in the box,
the image would reflect onto the wall.

Genetically Modified Foods Essay
Introduction.
Genetically modified foods are foods produced from organisms that have had specific changes
(adding, deleting, changing segments) introduced into their DNA using the methods of genetic
engineering.(King 2009) So they could produce desirable traits or eliminate undesirable traits, a
process that enables transfer of genes between different species that would not interbreed in nature.
1983 marked the first ever transgenic plant. This was a tobacco plant that was created with antibiotic
resistant properties. The first commercially grown genetically modified food crop was a tomato plant
in California. The decomposition process was modified and resulted in a slower decomposition. This
plant was known as FlavrSavr . Before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Irelands current status is a GM free zone. This means that Ireland is off limits to the environmental
release of genetically modified organisms including viruses, algae, bacteria, seeds, crops, trees,
insects, molluscs, crustaceans, fish, poultry and livestock. As it stands only one variety of GM crop
(Monsanto s patented MON810 maize) is authorised for commercial release in the EU. But as of
October 2007, this is banned in Austria, France, Greece, Hungary and Poland. Other EU countries are
looking into banning it too.
The hostility towards these foods means that they wont be bought or sold in the market, but their
applications are so extensive and diverse that it is hard do ignore the many benefits that GM foods
could bring. These include beliefs that there is potential for a negative environmental impact

The Influence Of The Modern Period In British And Irish...
The modernist period in British and Irish literature was one of the most important and exciting times
in literary history. The term modernist stemmed from the beginning of the 20th century labelled the
modern period. The modern period was a time of confusion and transitions, mostly due to the result of
people returning from World War I. The modern period was an era of massive unemployment and
technological changes. Freud, Jung, and Marx were redefining human identity, Assembly lines and
factories were being introduced, and gender differences were starting to crumble. The modern period
was a time of change, and the field of Literature was no exception. Susan Gorsky, in her book titled

Poetry, Drama, and fiction were subjected to intensive scrutiny and extensive redefinition, producing
some of the most unusual and often difficult literary creations in English: Eliot s Wasteland, Yeat s
Plays for Dancers, and the fiction of Joyce and Lawrence is some examples. Modernist literature
reflects in it s structure as well as in it s content the overturning of tradition; the instances upon new
design produced plays and stories without plots or recognizably human characters, poems without
rhyme or meter (16, 17). The Modernist author was able to identify with their audience by creating
stories that not only asked important questions, but also got under the reader s skin. In George Orwell
s essay titled Inside the Whale, he addresses the fact that James Joyce s Ulysses is remarkable due to
the fact of its commonplaceness of its material. (Inside The Whale and Other Essays, 11). The reader
is able to put themselves in the characters shoes, the characters are very three dimensional, and like
modern life their stories are not so much like a fairy tales, as they are of everyday life. The character
Joyce creates in Ulysses enters many different states of consciousness, dream states, drunkenness....
demonstrating the ability modern literature has in relating the ideas of consciousness, in a way that the
reader would be able to identify with. Orwell goes further to say that Ulysses was filled with a Whole

The Early Life Of Elizabeth Cady Stanton
The early life of Elizabeth Cady Stanton starts with her being the fourth child of six children. Her
mother was from a wealthy family and a big part of the political elite of New York. Stanton s
grandfather was an officer during the American Revolution under George Washington, and was a part
of New York state legislature. Her father was a member of the New York state legislature, U.S. House
of Representatives and after 1847 became a member of the Supreme Court of New York State.
During the 1830 s Elizabeth s cousin Gerrit Smith home was stationed on the Underground Railroad,
and listening to the experiences of fugitive slaves made a lasting impression. Elizabeth met her
husband Henry Stanton at a meeting about antislavery, he was a public speaker who often spoke out
against slavery to hostile crowds, often times risking his life. When Henry proposed to Elizabeth, her
parents were less than thrilled, they opposed the marriage considering abolitionist to be fanatics. This
was the start of her feminist conscious. Elizabeth s parents did not attend her wedding and during her
ceremony she requested to have the phrase about obeying her husband omitted, and kept her own
name. Something unheard of in those days.
After Elizabeth and Henry were married they left to go to London to go to an international antislavery
convention. During this convention the male delegates voiced their concern that they believed that
association with feminism would harm the abolitionist cause and

But this can cause unknown side effects that is can have unknown effects on human or animals. This
can have an uprise in numerous ethical issues in both changing crop materials and testing it (Strachan.

had infertility, early delivers and death. This raises many complications towards crops that are
genetically modified as they may carry viruses or bacteria that can be harmful towards humans and
animals. Many ethically issues arise from the side effects from these crops on animals and humans. If
livestock is affected by these crops this could also mean decrease in production on meat and increase
of meat prices because of the demand. The effects of genetically modified crops have not been fully
tested on humans and the consequences are not fully known. There have been cases with Indian
farmers having allergic reaction to genetically modified cotton (Kurunganti K,2008). This is important

The Natural Resources Of Water Scarcity
The natural resources of today seem to have no end. Oil, Coal, and even Natural Gas storage units are
starting to see significant declines in their supply. And even though the world may be producing an
exponential amount of these resources, there are signs of depletion. Another one of those natural
resources is our fresh water. The world can sit back and continue to use fresh water without any
knowledge of reduction but it is imminent a solution is needed quickly. Not a solution to produce
more fresh water, but to distribute the fresh water more efficiently to more regions across the Globe. It
should be the worlds first priority to resolve water scarcity. There is not enough fresh water to live of
off much longer, so using it wisely, now, can better prepare us for implementing a drastic change to
how we gather fresh water in the future. The overall all picture is clear, fresh water is becoming scarce
because we are not using this natural resource wisely. The allocation of fresh water must have a better
implementation process. Fresh water only makes two and a half percent of the total volume of the
world s water, but considering 70% of that freshwater is in the form of ice and permanent snow cover
access to potable water is limited. It is not surprising that demand for water could soon surpass supply.

Borderline Personality Barriers
Barriers and Challenges of Borderline Personality Disorder One of the most significant barriers to any
Personality Disorder is that the presentation may be better explained with a similar disorder. Further,
the impact of medication to treat medical ailments and the use of other substances may provide a
better explanation than a diagnosis of a Personality Disorder. Moreover, the individual s sociocultural
environment and life development may be far different from that of their current situation ( American
Psychiatric Association, 2013). As recognized in the research of Hermens, van Splunteren, van den
Bosch, and Verheul (2011), the barrier most commonly identified in implementing treatment programs
for people with BPD is receiving the recommended treatment of psychotherapy. Further, due to a lack
of trained psychotherapist, most people with BPD are not receiving the proper treatment. Moreover,
people with BPD that could find a qualified psychotherapist, received therapy at a lower level than
recommended (Hermens, van Splunteren, van den Bosch, Verheul, 2011). Another barrier recognized
in the research of Hermens et al. (2011) was that limited health care financing resulted in a
tremendous gap for those with BPD receiving outpatient care. This is consistent with a similar
problem in the United States in that insurance companies are more apt to pay for medication than
therapy. The conclusions reached in the research of Hermens et al. (2011) indicate [m]ost patients with

Analysis Of A P By John Updike
John Updike s A P , is about a young man s struggle with morality, authority, and freedom. Through a
series of events Sammy witnessed injustice in his workplace leading him to quit his job. When Sammy
quit his job he was taking a stand against authority because he longed for freedom from the A P and
his manager. Sammy made the leap from an adolescent, knowing little about life, into a man facing the
consequences from his actions. John Updike s use of language and actions reveal the internal struggles
and relationships of a young man growing into adulthood. Status is the social or professional standing
of a person, and it is often a unifying factor which John Updike uses to show comparisons of several
different characters. Through Sammy s point of view, several comparisons are shown between the
employees of the A P, even though their ages are different. Firstly, Lengel and Sammy assume the girls
are ignorant and incompetent. Sammy s demeaning view is viewed when he says, Poor kids, I began
to feel sorry for them, they couldn t help it. In Sammy s mind he saw the girls as helpless prey that had
walked into a trap he needed to save them from. The manager saw the way they were dressed and
proceeded to scold them the way a principal in a school scolds disruptive students. Another parallel
between the two men is they both objectify the girls. Lengel is shown to look the girls up and down
before he passes his judgement. Sammy s defense of the girls, while it seems honorable, has ulterior
motives. His hope is the girls hear him quit his job so that he can impress them; this action further
objectifies the girls making them passive objects of passion. In the A P there is another comparison
between some of the repressed customers; the group of women he calls houseslaves and the trio of
girls. Houseslaves are women whose only job was to cook, clean, and care for children. When the trio
passed by these women there is a moment of shock from the girl s appearance, but they look a second
time possibly out of envy for the freedom they lack. The women in this story seem to all lack a voice
and in the 1960s that was not uncommon; men in this time were still seen as the ultimate providers for
the households. Queenie, like

Kathleen Mahan. Mr. Mahan, the elder, worked as the director of theatre lighting at the Shakespeare
Theatre in Washington, D.C. before his death in January 2016. The defendant s mother, Mrs. Mahan,
also worked in the theatre business as a stage manager for several years. The defendant is the oldest of
two sons born to the Mahans. His brother, Bryce, is 14 years old and has been identified on the autism
spectrum according to Mrs. Mahan. His parents have been divorced for several years. The defendant
reportedly lived in California until he was two years old before relocating to the Northern Virginia
area. In March 2015, their family home was destroyed by a fire. Although no one was physically hurt
in the fire, as no one was home at the time, Mrs. Mahan believes the trauma from losing the home and
the death of his father contributed to her son s mental health symptoms. She described periods of the
defendant displaying appropriate, calm behavior that could vacillate in mood and behavior quickly
without a known trigger. She described her son as kind, smart, and helpful, but admitted that he has
met some traumatic disappointments in the last couple of years.
Mr. Mahan graduated from Woodson High School after first attending Robinson Secondary School

There is nothing like an all purpose lens. Each lens is suitable for a particular purpose.
Each lens has some pro and cons.
Different lenses render how we perceive the subject and setting descriptively, emotionally and
aesthetically. Different lenses give the freedom of choosing the angle of view according to the subject
and are measured by the focal length. Focal length of a DSLR camera is the distance between the
optical centre of a lens to the imaging sensor when the lens is focused at infinity.
The two main choices of a film maker while choosing lens is either a prime lens (lens with a fixed
focal length) or a zoom lens (lens with a variable focal length). For narrative film making prime lenses
are best. Prime lenses are faster as compared to zoom lenses. Fast refers to the maximum opening
(aperture) of the lens. Fast lenses (such as f/1.4 or f/1.8) allow shooting in low lighting conditions.
Fast lenses allow capturing footage with a dramatically shallow depth of field. It gives more visual
versatility. Prime lenses have fewer lens elements and give good sharp images in comparison to zoom
lenses. For documentaries zoom lenses are better for their flexibility in creating

turned into eight. Officers now had the car surrounded, as one officer demanded that the driver step
out of the vehicle, some of the other officers pulled the passengers from the car at gunpoint, placed
them in handcuffs, and immediately began searching them. The driver tried to explain to the officers
that they were students, when he was questioned what they were doing in the area, but it fell onto deaf
ears. Once all of their records came back clean, the scene calmed, and as the students were being
released from their handcuffs the officer explained, We have had a lot of robberies around here lately,
and one of the passengers fit his description. Simple misunderstanding. You all have a good day. In the
United States, to be black is to be a problem because to be black means that you are

My Passion For Palliative And Hospice Care Social Work
When it came to envisioning my advanced block placement, I knew I wanted something different,
something to transform the way I practiced social work for the last fourteen years. The timing ideal as
my passion for palliative and hospice care social work was in transition. I seized the opportunity in
preserving it by securing an international internship where I could research the cultural differences in
the quality of both the tangible and intangible deliverables in providing compassionate end of life
care. The destination, Nepal!
Knowing I was traveling to an underdeveloped nation, I did my homework, or did I? I partnered with
an ancillary community college who I thought focused on expanding the development of social work
as a discipline in Nepal and were teaching BSW students to become nearly the first truly educated
social work practitioners in the country, which excited me. Disappointingly, the system lacked
structure and organization.
My trip started off tumultuously, as did my relationship with my host, consequentially who lacked
hospitality among other qualities, leaving me to discover the copious cultural dichotomies and
challenges around every corner, alone, daunted by the lack of local support. Thankfully my Seminar
Instructor, Wanda Anderson, LICSW and my classmates supported me through the pit falls every step
of the way!!! Learning that the Nepalese culture and its diverse issues, for example, the concept of
time management, which is idle, punctuality

How The Media Regulate Agents
What is the Landscape Currently?
Now that an analysis has been constructed to compare the media regulating agents, a second analysis
must be molded in order to recognize the current media landscape. This needs to be established in
order to bring justification to any policy changes at the government or industrial levels. If the common
child s media landscape reflexes the sociocultural environment that is desired, then no policy change
is require. On the other hand, if there is dissonance present, then a policy adjustment is needed. The
question now rises on what type of sociocultural environment is desired. While this can be highly
subjected on an individual case, one could make argument for broaden sociocultural goals on a macro

With that being said, it is still possible to create a sociocultural goal to act as a standard to compare
with media policies. Many of these standards are already incorporated into the language of American
policies. For example, violence, sexual, profane, and dangerous substance contents are used as a
standard in most of the industries regulatory systems. Typically these standards are a reflection of
risky or illegal behavior that could be modeled by the audience. For the purpose of this article, a look
at two of these common standards will be evaluated in two parts. First, an evaluation of the media
content s relationship to influence the audience to conduct in a risky behavior will be reviewed, and
second it s prevalence in the current media landscape will be mentioned. For the sake of relevance
towards the legality of the situation, this article will look at the content of violent and sexual content in
media. While many other standards can and need to be discussed, these two are the most prevalent in
the current media and political conversation. How does Violence Play in Children Media? In a
longitudinal study that lasted for fifteen years, Leonard Eron and Rowell Huesmann found a specific
causation between the violent television content and an increase amount of aggression from adults
who were raised in this

Hume s Wide Construal of the Virtues Essay
Hume s Wide Construal of the Virtues
ABSTRACT: The term virtue has traditionally been used to designate morally good character traits
such as benevolence, charity, honesty, wisdom, and honor. Although ethicists do not commonly offer a
definitive list of virtues, the number of virtues discussed is often short and their moral significance is
clear. Hume s analysis of the virtues departs from this tradition both in terms of the quantity of virtues
discussed and their obvious moral significance. A conservative estimate of the various virtues Hume
refers to in his moral writings would put the number at around seventy, with the more untraditional
ones including wit, good manners, and dialog. Unsurprisingly, Hume s critics have attacked ... Show

Hume s analysis of the virtues departs from this tradition both in terms of the quantity of virtues he
discusses and their obvious moral significance. A conservative estimate of the various virtues Hume
refers to in his moral writings would put the number at around seventy, with the more untraditional
ones including wit, good manners, and dialog. Not surprisingly, Hume s critics, past and present, have
attacked him for making nonsense of the concept of virtue by construing it so widely. For example,
Philippa Foot argues that, ... one does not find in Hume an account of the difference between skills or
talents and virtues and he even says that there is no reason to consider virtue as something distinct. I
suppose it is partly due to Hume s influence that this important topic, which was splendidly treated by
Aristotle and Aquinas, is hardly discussed by modern moral philosophers. (1)
Hume was aware that his broad understanding of virtue was controversial and he offered several
defenses for his position. After presenting the neglected attacks of his contemporaries, and Hume s
response, I will argue that a problem remains: by failing to distinguish between degrees of virtue,
Hume also fails to distinguish between degrees of vice. But, some vices such as malevolence clearly
deserve punishment whereas other alleged vices such as uncleanliness clearly do not. Thus, for
adequate retribution, a distinction is needed between important and less

Ww1 Informal Letter
My beloved daughter Magdalene,
I was overjoyed to recieve your letter. I hope you maintain your good grade and take very good care of
your sister, Meredith. I miss your charming personality and smile that would bright up a room. I could
use one of your hugs right about now. The infirmary isnt exaclty the most cheerfull place. Usually i
would be filling sandbags right about now because we rotate responsibilities between the frontlines
and the fields. Our lives on the frontlines are horrendous. There are not enough words to describe how
terrible the frontline trenches truly are. There are thousands of mice , not like the ones you would see
behind the schoolhouse, these are huge and often carry nasty diseases and infections such as lice. There

We waited to receive the orders from the lieutenant, but in my head i was already saying my prayers.
He had told us to retrace our steps. I ran with everything I had in me, the proper duckboard made it
somewhat easier to run but didn t take away from the fact that i was running with about 50kg of
ammunition with me. We ran and arunned until we found the sap, while lieutenant provided shelter
fire. We got out of the enemy trenches and crawled through the enemy s barbed wire. In the process of
me going through the barbed wire, I cut my eye. Within seconds it was swollen shut and I thought I
was in a dream. Maybe all of this was just a nightmare. I was later told i was suffering from extreme
blood loss. Soon i felt something pull me i honestly thought i was being taken for german prisoner.
But i heard a familiar voice. It was the lieutenant telling me to wake up. With whatever strength i had
left and the help of the lieutenant,i staggered across no man s land And made it to our trenches were i
was rushed to the infirmary. Not to soon after we arrived to safety, well as close to safety as we could
have gotten the germans released fire on us. Although my eye is severely damaged, it couldve been
alot worse; I am grateful that i returned all in one piece. I miss you dearly and am waiting to see you.
If i do not make it hone in time for your birthday i shall wish your blessings upon you now. I

Coleridge and William Wordsworth s Poetics Storming of the Bastille 1789 [1] During and in the aftermath of the French Revolution, millennialist thought independent of the myriad of economic and historical reasons for its precipitation influenced many authors. Many people perceived the French Revolution as a foreshadowing of an Apocalypse that would usher in a new millenarian epoch, one levelling social distinctions between people and bringing about what was believed to be Christ s absolute rule. Samuel Taylor Coleridge was such a writer influenced by millennialist and apocalyptic belief in the late eighteenth century. His early writings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A Dollhouse And The Glass Menagerie One of the most important thematic bridges connecting two of the seminal works of Henrik Ibsen, author of A Dollhouse, and Tennessee Williams, playwright of The Glass Menagerie, is abandonment and its effects on the family dynamic. Each work s protagonist Tom in The Glass Menagerie and Nora in A Dollhouse actively undergoes the process of starting afresh in life by abandoning the strict limitations of domesticity in search of spiritual and financial stability. While both characters ultimately end up declaring their independence from their families, the consequences they face in the aftermath are uniquely a result of the specific dynamic they suffer from in their respective works. In all of these situations, the same thing is reoccurring; any teenager that turns eighteen is considered an adult, but if they were to drink, like any other twenty one year old adult, they would get charged and tried as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many young adults do not find that fair. What the law is saying is any young adult can be tried as an adult but are not allowed to drink and adult beverage. To me, it does not sound fair to do; if anyone is considered an adult by law, than by law they should be allowed to do adult things. By law, drinking alcohol underage, or having possession of alcohol, can be a misdemeanor punishable up to a year in jail, and a $4,000 fine. Personally, this just does not seem fair. Other examples of misdemeanors are: simple assaults, disorderly conduct, domestic violence, indecent exposure, prostitution, theft, trespassing, and vandalism. So, basically, domestic violence and underage drinking could end up having the same punishment. Publically beating someone up and drinking at someone s house underage does not seem like they fit in the same category; both are punishable up to a year with a pretty hefty fine. Also, getting caught drinking and driving has the same punishment as just drinking underage. To me, this almost encourages drunk driving because it has the same punishment, so, why ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author sheds light on the idea that younger generations are affected in a positive way when they watch reality T.V. While viewers are engaged watching a show, they learn to think critically and analyze environments and situations. Johnson discusses that in watching these shows, even reality TV for example, kids are forced to think like grown ups: analyzing complex social networks, managing resources, tracking subtle narrative intertwining s, recognizing long term patterns (Johnson 294). I believe this could be a positive impact, but could also have some negative outcomes. Johnson believes that even bad T.V. is good T.V. because it teaches real world situations. This is where I believe the negative impact of the exposure of T.V. comes into play, because shows with high levels of violence could lead to the viewer reenacting the seen behavior; this goes for not only violence but other things as well. He also refers to a show that he considers nourishing; the finished series of 24, that you have to pay attention, make inferences, track shifting social relationships (Johnson 279). The benefit of these shows does not come from learning and following the characters actions; it comes from thinking and questioning situations. The world can sit back and continue to use fresh water without any knowledge of reduction but it is imminent a solution is needed quickly. Not a solution to produce more fresh water, but to distribute the fresh water more efficiently to more regions across the Globe. It should be the worlds first priority to resolve water scarcity. Further, the impact of medication to treat medical ailments and the use of other substances may provide a better explanation than a diagnosis of a Personality Disorder. Moreover, the individual s sociocultural environment and life development may be far different from that of their current situation ( American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Another barrier recognized in the research of Hermens et al. (2011) was that limited health care financing resulted in a tremendous gap for those with BPD receiving outpatient care. • 35. Analysis Of A P By John Updike John Updike s A P , is about a young man s struggle with morality, authority, and freedom. Through a series of events Sammy witnessed injustice in his workplace leading him to quit his job. When Sammy quit his job he was taking a stand against authority because he longed for freedom from the A P and his manager. Sammy made the leap from an adolescent, knowing little about life, into a man facing the consequences from his actions. John Updike s use of language and actions reveal the internal struggles and relationships of a young man growing into adulthood. Status is the social or professional standing of a person, and it is often a unifying factor which John Updike uses to show comparisons of several different characters. Through Sammy s point of view, several comparisons are shown between the employees of the A P, even though their ages are different. Firstly, Lengel and Sammy assume the girls are ignorant and incompetent. Sammy s demeaning view is viewed when he says, Poor kids, I began to feel sorry for them, they couldn t help it. In Sammy s mind he saw the girls as helpless prey that had walked into a trap he needed to save them from. The manager saw the way they were dressed and proceeded to scold them the way a principal in a school scolds disruptive students. Another parallel between the two men is they both objectify the girls. Lengel is shown to look the girls up and down before he passes his judgement. Sammy s defense of the girls, while it seems honorable, has ulterior motives. His hope is the girls hear him quit his job so that he can impress them; this action further objectifies the girls making them passive objects of passion. In the A P there is another comparison between some of the repressed customers; the group of women he calls houseslaves and the trio of girls. Houseslaves are women whose only job was to cook, clean, and care for children. When the trio passed by these women there is a moment of shock from the girl s appearance, but they look a second time possibly out of envy for the freedom they lack. • 42. Hume s Wide Construal of the Virtues Essay Hume s Wide Construal of the Virtues ABSTRACT: The term virtue has traditionally been used to designate morally good character traits such as benevolence, charity, honesty, wisdom, and honor. Although ethicists do not commonly offer a definitive list of virtues, the number of virtues discussed is often short and their moral significance is clear. Hume s analysis of the virtues departs from this tradition both in terms of the quantity of virtues discussed and their obvious moral significance. A conservative estimate of the various virtues Hume refers to in his moral writings would put the number at around seventy, with the more untraditional ones including wit, good manners, and dialog. A conservative estimate of the various virtues Hume refers to in his moral writings would put the number at around seventy, with the more untraditional ones including wit, good manners, and dialog. Not surprisingly, Hume s critics, past and present, have attacked him for making nonsense of the concept of virtue by construing it so widely. For example, Philippa Foot argues that, ... one does not find in Hume an account of the difference between skills or talents and virtues and he even says that there is no reason to consider virtue as something distinct. Thus, for adequate retribution, a distinction is needed between important and less ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We ran and arunned until we found the sap, while lieutenant provided shelter fire. We got out of the enemy trenches and crawled through the enemy s barbed wire. Not to soon after we arrived to safety, well as close to safety as we could have gotten the germans released fire on us.
