Research Paper On The City Of Lights
Paris is known worldwide for its art museums. There are dozens of museums in The City of Lights,
each with its own special treasures and unique pieces of art. The Louvre is the most famous of them
all. The story of its creation coupled with its architecture, art work, and beautiful outdoor grounds
including the recently added Great Pyramid the sits in front of the grand museum sets the Louvre apart
from other museums across the world.
The Louvre was not always a museum. With its construction beginning in the 12th century, the Louvre
started was a fortress and grand palace with architecture in the French Renaissance style. (Nave 35 39,
Pradel) More than 25 different kings lived in the palace. It was a royal residence from Philip II to
Louis XIV. (Nave 35 39) Each of the 25 monarchs who made the Louvre his home from Philip II to
Louis XIV, ( Nave 35 39) the last king who sought protection behind the walls of the palace was a
major contributor to the Louvre becoming one of the world s great destinations; more than 9.3 million
visitors visit the Louvre every year. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Mona Lisa. Venus de Milo. Little Dancer of Fourteen Years. Those are just three of hundreds
individual masterpieces that will leave a visitor speechless. A full appreciation of the wonders of the
Louvre is impossible just seeing an on line photo. They must be seen in person to be fully and
completely absorbed. A prime example is the Mona Lisa. Although the internet can document the
value of this masterpiece painted by Leonardo da Vinci today it is reportedly valued at nearly 800
million dollars standing face to face with the Mona Lisa as she stares at you with her soft, yet creepy,
eyes gives you a satisfaction that cannot be achieved by visiting a

Rainsford Kills General Zaroff In The Most Dangerous Game
In, the short story, The most Dangerous Game , Rainsford kills General Zaroff. Some readers believe
Rainsford has the right to eliminate Zaroff. Others believe that no human being should be killed under

many people in the past and tried to kill Rainsford in the process when Rainsford washed up onto
shipwreck island and hunted him down for two ish daies which zaroff calls his murder his dangerous

Physical Therapy And Mental Therapy Essay
Physical therapy has been a crucial and exciting part of my life since my junior year of high school. I
have experienced physical therapy in multiple settings and from the perspective of a patient and
therapist. Each inspiring experience has strengthened my desire to become a physical therapist, in my
pursuit to help people in the most wholesome way.
I have had the pleasure of working closely with a physical therapist from Crossroads Physical Therapy
through my years of exploring this profession. Dr. King was my therapist, and I was also lucky
enough to observe her practice with her other patients. While I was a patient, I was able to see
firsthand how the treatments were executed. I could feel how precise each body movement and hand
placement was. Everything that was done had a purpose and I could feel my muscles respond to the
treatment with the guidance of the therapist s hands. I have been to physical therapy for multiple
reasons over the past several years, for things such as knee subluxations and gait impairments, but I
remember the treatments regarding my sacral torsion vividly. Due to the misalignment of my sacrum, I
had a great deal of tension in my hips and the lumbar region of my back. Going through this
experience allowed me to feel how a physical ailment in one part of the body can affect multiple other
aspects of a person, including the mind. Having pains and being in constant discomfort can impact
everything from your plans for the day to your outlook on life.

Growing Up Digital Wired For Distraction Analysis
The article written by Matt Richtel, Growing up Digital, Wired for Distraction, represents the theme
that growing up with technology has really changed students life and has interfered with their
education. The article starts with, the point that time has changed so teens as well as adults are now
drawn to the internet and seeking for help on everything. According to Mr. Reilly, one of Vishal s
teachers states, He s a kid caught between two worlds, one that is the real world and one that revolves
around a technology to hide behind. (3) Vishal, a young 17 year old is a very bright student that took a

Technology can be very helpful in life and can give you options for school classes or activities such as

focused in a way he rarely is when doing homework. (7) This article portrays the point that even
though technology is major in Vishal s life it is hurting him in what will make his future, education.
For example, Vishal s principle states that he use to be a very bright student, but has lost the spark.
One last point that is made in this article talks about how hands on technology can help you in school,
but in other opinions it can hurt you and make it impossible to concentrate. Between two very smart
men they talk about whether, Technology might be the reason Vishal seems to lose interest in
academics the minute he leaves class, (9) or if technology is how you reach out to students and find
their passion in academics. This section of the article is all about the discussion of whether technology
connect students to school or does it separate them from academics. The very last section in the article
strives to the point that Vishal, usually a bright student, has seemed to decelerate in school and his

Indentured Servants In New England
3. Indentured servants were very important to the development of the colonies. In the early years,
there were labor shortages and indentured servants provided cheap labor. By bringing in people with
specialized skills and providing immigration for other who could not afford, indentured servitude
helped the colonies expand. The colonies had a lot of land, and indentured servants made up half the
population (parliament announced that convicts could escape the hangman by relocating to the
colonies.)This led to a quicker progress of initial growth of the colonies. Although this system helped
with the growth of the colonies, it was replaced by the 1700 s with slaves. The reason was that slaves
served for life instead of servants who served for 4 7 years. This was more profitable than buying
servants over and over again. Also, once you owned a slave you owned their children, which was a
bonus because you wouldn t have to buy any more slaves. Overall, slaves replaced servants because
they were more profitable to buy and the supplies of these slaves seemed inexhaustible since there
population was matching the number of whites at that time and ... Show more content on

Colonists participated in international and imperial trade by using the triangular trade. Although, out
of necessity, the colonies sent raw materials, such as fish and fur, to England in exchange for
manufactured goods. In order to protect England s agriculture and fisheries put taxes on goods. This
resulted in the New York and New England to buy more from England than they sold. To avoid this,
the colonies started using their own ships and merchants, this formed the triangular trade. The
triangular trade allowed New Englanders to ship rum to the west coast of Africa, where they
exchanged for slaves; took the enslaved Africans to the West Indies; and returned home with various
commodities, including molasses from which they manufactured rum. The triangular trade allowed the
colonies trade to prosper and for more profit to be

Kidney Stone Diseases
Since the occurrence and progression of various human pathological conditions have been proposed to
have an involvement of uric acid (UA), a number of researchers have therefore attempted to elucidate
the potential roles of UA underlying the pathogenesis of UA related diseases (1, 2). Among these, UA
is well documented in kidney stone diseases since it serves as not only a main crystalline composition
of pure UA but also a principal risk factor for hyperuricosuric calcium oxalate (CaOx) kidney stone
disease (3, 4). These two kidney stones account for a significant percentage of stone forming patients
and have an increasing prevalence worldwide over the past few decades. Nevertheless, the molecular
mechanisms underlying UA related kidney stone diseases are still not well understood. ... Show more

UA can widely affect various cellular functions; therefore, the tight control of serum UA level is
necessary to maintain cellular homeostasis under normal circumstances. Kidney serves as a major
excretory organ to control a balance of UA by which excessive UA is eliminated from the body
through urine (5). Consequently, the defective renal handling of UA can cause an imbalance in UA
levels in plasma and urine, and contribute to the development of several diseases, especially kidney
stone disease (1, 4). Hyperuricosuria is typically defined as an excess of urinary uric acid; greater than
800 mg/day in men and greater than 750 mg/day in women, which has been recognized as one of the
most common metabolic abnormalities in kidney stone patients (6). However, potential roles of UA in
renal system underlying kidney stone pathogenesis have been largely

Pros And Cons Of Gun Control In The United States
Controlling Our Guns is not the Way to go Being a daughter of a game warden and also growing up in
the rural southern parts of Tennessee, I have always been exposed to firearms my entire life. There is a
famous quote that is relevant to gun control, there are no bad guns, only bad men (Squires, 2002).
Placing restrictions on firearms has been one of the biggest political affairs in not only America but
other countries as well. Firearms in America make up $24 billion of our economy, therefore, we can
say that guns play a major role in the U.S. Many people believe implementing gun laws and
regulations seems to be more of a disadvantage than an advantage to our country, because gun control
has failed in places like Ireland and the United Kingdom. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The definition of gun control involves politics, legislation, and how the use of firearms is being
restricted (Charles, 2015). The main arguments over gun control is mainly a relationship between the
state s powers to regulate public order over citizens (Spitzer, 1998). Controlling our guns does not
reduce crime and violence which has been demonstrated by other countries such as Ireland and the
United Kingdom and the United States government should look to those countries as examples. When
the Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution, they wrote it based on justice and what was fair to the
American people. The purpose of the Constitution is to be the law of the land, therefore, it establishes
and maintains order for that provides a guiding hand for citizens (Spitzer, 1998). Laws banning
firearms would only be followed by the law abiding. Citizens living in the United States have had
access to guns since the beginning when they were used to hunt and gather food and as a mean of
protection. Nowadays, hunting is still a sport enjoyed by millions, who already have many regulations
that they must follow. When the Second Amendment was written, it was meant for everyone is the
United States. Its intentions were for Americans to be able to protect themselves in times of

Banco International, Inc. v. Goody s Family Clothing
United States District Court, Northern Division 54 F.2d 765
In the case of Banco v. Goody s, the courts ruled that Goody s was not wrong for canceling the
contract due to the finding of justified in reasonably concluding that Banco could not deliver the
product by the date set in the first purchase order between the parties and the failure to deliver the
goods by that date would have substantially impaired the value of those goods to Goody s. Goody s

The contract was for a total of 62,748 jogging suits that would be custom made for girls and boys. The
total contract price was for $ 749,103.60 that included the shipping of the merchandise, which would
be shipped within six purchase orders. On or about August 29, 1994 they (Goody s) terminated their
contract in writing, which validates a right to cancel. The parties agreed to amend the first shipment
date, Goody s deny that all other shipment dates were to be amended as well. Goody s feel that there
was any wrongful, unlawful, or without good cause or justification eras on their behalf. Was there a
retraction of any Anticipatory Repudiation when Banco gave Goody s assurance shortly after Goody s
cancelled the contract? Did Goody s have a justifiable reason to cancel the entire contract with Banco?
The UCC permits the breaching party (subject to some limitations) to retract his or her repudiation.
This can be done by any method that clearly indicates the party s intent to perform. Once retraction is
made, the rights of the repudiating party under the contract are reinstated. The breaching party cannot
retract the repudiation. However, if since the time of the repudiation the other party has canceled or
materially changed position or otherwise indicated that the repudiation is final. [UCC 2 611, 2A 403]

characteristics of both mood and personality disorders. Symptoms are brought on after an individual
experiences a traumatic event. Though not everyone that experiences a traumatic event goes on to
develop PTSD, seven to eight percent of the U.S. population will experience PTSD at some point in
their lives. Symptoms of PTSD include four main categories of symptoms: reliving, avoidance, hyper
arousal, and Negative changes in beliefs and feelings. Reliving the event can include nightmares,

Cvs Sets High Standards For Csr Policies
CVS sets high standards for CSR policies. The strategy is build upon three key factors, which include
building healthy communities, protecting the planet, and creating economic opportunities. It is
supported by strategic priorities and goals, and aligned with the CSR material issues we identified in
2013, a process that was informed by internal and external stakeholders (CVS Health).
One of the factors, which are also included in our CVSĀ“s mission statement, is to make healthcare
accessible and affordable. The market reach of CVS is expanding through a globalized environment.
The second of these three pillars of CVSĀ“s corporate social responsibility takes the environmental
awareness into account. A reduction in the environmental impact resulting from operations will create
an environmentally responsible behavior.
A diversified workforce with high ethical standards throughout the entire company is part of the last
key factor of the CSR of CVS Caremark. By providing transparency around corporate policies and
practices in ways that build trust with stakeholders, the regulatory compliance and standards will be
met (CVS, CSR).

Essay On New Haven
The city of New Haven, Connecticut has been a long standing settlement. Established officially by
Europeans in March of 1638 (Source 3), New Haven has a detailed history of population declines and
growth. The territory that is now New Haven was once inhabited by the Native American group the
Quinnipiack (Source 6). The accrual of land was easy for the English settlers in this territory due to
the conflicts between the Native American groups. The Quinnipiack tribe occupied the area near the
harbor and the Mohawks and Pequots occupied the surrounding area and constantly harassed the
Quinnipiack. When the English arrived the Quinnipiack traded their land for protection, which the
English agreed to immediately. Through the years the settlement of New Haven has grown and
declined in population due to different factors including political, economic and many more. The
English settlers first selected the territory that is now New Haven due to its location and availability of
resources. New Haven can be described by using the five themes of geography, which are location,

Some of the stereotype of The Native Americans in the film were, Pawnee people being savages and
Lakota people being the more calm and family people. I understand why the filmmakers showed both
sides of the Native Americans, the good and the bad. Which they also did the same with the white
people. The Pawnee people acted like savages in the film, they killed with no remorse and took what
they wanted from the white people and Lakota people. The most positive Native American character
in the film was Kicking Bird. Since he was the holy man of the Lakota people he was very calm and

The Dreamers Chapter Summary
Coates first describes the Dream on page 11 as, Memorial Day cookouts, block associations, and

The Dream thrives on generalization, on limiting the number of possible questions, on privileging

Dreamer will do anything to preserve it. Coates addresses the lengths White Americans are willing to
go to preserve the Dream. The Dreams justify the American slave trade and the decades of
enslavement by acknowledging that sometimes people make mistakes. The Dreamers explain that
there were a few mistakes that were part of the building of this country, but the people who made them
meant well. Coates describes America s heritage as filled with torture, theft, [and] enslavement (6). He

Symbolism In The Easter Uprising
The 1916 Easter Uprising symbolizes the first major act of force since the United Irishmen Rising in
1798 . During the time of the Great Famine from 1845 to 1847 the majority of the Irish population lost
faith in the British government because they did not listen or take their grievances seriously . The Irish
immediately became second class citizens to the British . Germany during World War One thought
that England would be too occupied with the Irish to enter into WW1 . An immediate cause of the war
was the threat of the Northern Ireland s to oppose domestic self government known as Home Rule
through a rebellion . Ulster s laws were enforced to prohibit arms from being sent to Ireland .

Tattoo Speech
Tattoos are more than just art on someone s body, it s the meaning that holds a secret. In the essay,
Mark My Words. Maybe. , many people often see Leslie Jamison s tattoo in different perspectives.
Not only do people have varying point of views, they also either have faced a lot of bad or good
outcomes in their life. Finding yourself can be a huge deal, sometimes those can create themselves by
how they feel or the way others may expect from them. The first time someone gets a tattoo, it s

Essay on Review We Have No Right to Happiness
Review on We have No Right to Happiness
By: C.S. Lewis
In class we read three different essays including The Dying family by J.H. Plumb, Does Fatherhood
Make You Happy? By Daniel Gilbert, and We Have No Right to Happiness by C.S. Lewis. Though the
purpose of these essays can be very controversial to some, after reviewing all three essays I have
picked my favorite, or the one I agree with and disagree with most. We have no Right to Happiness
makes a very good argument on the point the author is trying to make. Some people believe that
happiness is a right and is supposed to be given out, or is required to be provided by the government,
like a right. In all reality that is true, but to an extent, we do have a right to ... Show more content on

them, nor will yours, your parents open that door for you to pursue your happiness. I guess whether
you agree on this point or not would have something to do with where you come from or what you
have been provided with up until this point, in which ever case government is not required to make
you happy as an individual. I believe government already helps out people too much already, even if
there not as deserving or willing to work for it. Though the right to happiness is chiefly claimed for
the sexual impulse, it seems to me impossible that the matter should stay there Lewis said. Sexual
happiness is on a whole different aspect. It s probably not in your best interest to act on every sexual
related impulse you have to make you happy. Although you are entitled too, sexually fulfilling your
happiness is not true happiness, it seems to be very superficial. In this case, leaving your wife to marry
another isn t ideal, on the other hand to some it would be. Overall, although these situations arise, it is
probably not in your best well being to depend on them. Life is short. I wouldn t blame you for trying

Cultural Destruction Of Aboriginal Culture
MINOR ESSAY
From first contact with colonisers from Britain in 1788, Aboriginals have been forced to defend their
sovereignty over their self determination as a free and independent culture (Briscoe 1993, p. 136). In
the present day, attempts to scrutinise historical evidence have been made to identify to what extent
the effect of British colonisation had on Aboriginal culture. The photo depicting the team of
Aboriginal cricketers is an example of this historical evidence and thus, the subject of such scrutiny.
Two separate stances have been taken to explain the catalyst of the near disappearance of Aboriginal
culture: cultural assimilation and cultural destruction. The former stance is a process of how members
of one cultural group assimilate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Memorialised in the history of cricket is the team of first Aboriginal cricketers that toured England in
1877 for a series of matches (Crombie Kruger 2012, p. 9). On the surface, the tour appears to be a
benign and harmless sporting event, a logical eventuality of interacting cultures consisting of
Aboriginal Australians and British colonisers. Drescher (2010 p. 92) discusses in his book that after
the ethical abolishment of human slavery in the United Kingdom with the Slavery Abolition Act 1833,
public perceptions of differing races and cultures shifted from overt to covert racism. Instead of
kidnapping, detaining and enslaving Aboriginal Australians, British colonisers sought to transport and
exploit them. This was all occurring during the time of Victorian era England, where a series of racial
ideologies were dedicated to explanations of human difference (Sampson 2000, p. 37). These
ideologies ...established explanations of human otherness , backed up by emerging junk science that
legitimised arguments for racial and cultural difference (Sampson 2000, p. 37). This science claimed
that a series of physical characteristics determined behavioural and intellectual capabilities and
constructed a hierarchy between races (Sampson 2000, p. 37). Such was the construction of an
ideology of race that was defined by superior and inferior humans. It was the ideological
manifestation of the global supremacy of British colonialism and their systemic dominance of
Indigenous peoples. This is where it is evident that the photo depicts the destruction of Aboriginal
culture. Prevailing ideologies at the time the photograph was taken underlines the fact that it was not

Essay on The Underdogs
Demetrio Macias , Hope for the Commoners
In The Underdogs written by Mariano Azuela, we are introduced to a character that strongly
symbolizes the fuel of the Mexican Revolution. Heroes like Demetrio Macias brought the Serrano s
hope of giving them what they felt they truly deserved. Although Demetrio Macias, the general
(colonel) of a rebel army is hunting down the army of Pancho Villa, he seems to have the same ideals
as the enemy. In addition to Demetrio Macias, we meet women like Camilla and War Paint who
represent the different roles that women played during the Mexican Revolution.

The triumph of our cause, which is the sublime triumph of Justice, because our ideal to be free the
noble, long suffering people of Mexico is about to be realized and because those men who have
watered the earth with their blood and tears will reap the harvest which is rightfully theirs. (pg. 69)
With respect to the degradation of women in The Underdogs, we must profile the two women
portrayed in the book. On one hand we have the conservative Camilla, and on the other, we have War
Paint. War Paint was the opposite of what society held as the typical woman. War Paint went against
the grain, and partook in events which professor Tinsman explained was common for women in the
army to do in those days. She drank, swore, and had many lovers like a man. Professor Tinsman also
explained the traditional roles that women held in society. Camilla is a great example of the way
women acted during this time. The following is an excerpt the is preceded by Luis Cervantes speech
about how Camilla should take advantage of Demetrio Macias interest in her. She is not persuaded

The eighth of July of 2011, Abukar Osman Beyle and Shani Nurani Shiekh Abrar pleaded not guilty
with multiple life sentences of twenty six counts for the capture and murdering of four American

had boarded the Quest and held the citizens hostage just off the Somalian coast. Once their mission
was done the pirates attempted to flee back to Somalia, but found their escape impeded by the United

Beyle s reason for appeal is that the district court had insufficient jurisdiction over any charges with
relation to murder (Counts being 16, 17, 18, and 19) and as well as the consequent use of any firearms
(Counts being 22, 23, 24, and 25) due to the primary actions arising within Somalia s territorial waters
and not on high seas. Abrar s argument is that he was denied his Fifth Amendment and his Sixth
Amendment. He specifically stated that he was not given the access to any of his witnesses located
abroad that could help justify his statement of being kidnapped and involuntarily forced to work as a
pirate. To conclude, both Beyle and Abrar were given a fair trial. The court states that they did not
deny Abrar to the Fifth Amendment right nor was the Sixth Amendment he was able to disclose his
witness material in his defense. However, in Beyle s defense the locality of the murders, being thirty
to forty miles the Somalian coast, laying within the high seas and therefore being beyond the any

Pilot Episode Audience
The pilot episode is one of the most important parts of any tv series. Its job is to make an audience
want to return and watch the next episode. For a pilot to successful in this regard it needs to be
inclusive of a wide audience. A broader audience helps to increase the number of return viewers. A
pilot episode should also feature a main character who appeals to the audience emotionally. If a viewer
becomes emotionally invested in a character, they are far more likely to watch the next episode. Mr.

Robot s failure to be inclusive toward a wide audience should have been detrimental. How then, did
such a show manage to become loved by so many? The pilot should have been turning viewers away,
but instead Mr. Robot was so well accepted that it was awarded two Emmys and received four
additional nominations. The reason for Mr. Robot s success lies in the fact that Elliot Alderson is an
empathetic main character in whom the audience easily becomes emotionally invested.
One of the most heart breaking scenes in the pilot of Mr. Robot, is when Elliot comes back from work
to his empty apartment, and begins to cry. Sometimes I dream of saving the world... Elliot says in the
voiceover, but I can t....I m not special. I m no one. In that moment Elliot is overcome with
helplessness. He wants to make the world a better place but he doesn t believe he has the ability to,
and it causes him to despair. He is alone, with no friends or family to comfort him, and so he turns to
morphine.
While Elliot s actions in response to his suffering are specific, his circumstances are universal.
Feelings of helplessness, especially in a world filled with terrorism and poverty, are not uncommon,
and loneliness is an emotion with which all can identify. It is easy then, for the viewer to relate to
Elliot in this moment, and to understand why he would feel the need to self medicate. Through this
scene a powerful emotional connection is fostered, and one cannot help but to empathize with Elliot.

How Did Muhammad Influence The Spread Of Islam
Islam
570 The prophet Muhammad is born. Muhammad had many tragedies during his childhood. Before
Muhammad s birth, his father died and when he was six years old his mother died. He was mainly
raised by his grandfather and uncle who taught him to be a good business man and a trader.
Muhammad became a very successful merchant and married a woman by the name of Khadijah.
610 Muhammad is believed to have been visited by the angel Gabriel. It is believed that Muhammad
had gone up to a cave in a mountain to meditate and he was visited by an angel and was told about
Allah. Some messages he was told were that Allah is the only god, everyone should share their goods
and that life should be lived in complete submission to Allah. Believing that ... Show more content on

By the start of the 1000 s Christians were being persecuted by Islamic leaders and this increased when
the owner of the holy land switched from the Egyptians to the Seljuk Turks. Late in the 11th century
the Byzantine Emperor by the name of Alexius Comenus asked for help from Western Europe. In
1095, since Christians were being persecuted Pope Urban II publicly called for a crusade to help the
Eastern Christians recover the holy land. The first crusade was the only the only crusade that the
Christians beat the Muslims.

614 The Persian conquest in Jerusalem occurs. Persia was a great place for Jews because Cyrus the
Great restored them into Jerusalem in 538. Authorities demanded Monophysites conform to imperial
religious policy and that all Jews become Christians. There were many Jewish riots that followed and
in 614 an army full of Persians and Jews arrived in Jerusalem. It took them 21 days to get past the wall
and after that was a massacre as 60,000 Christians were killed.
627 The Battle of Nineveh occurs. This battle was part of the Byzantine Sassanid war which lasted
from 602 628. At first the Persians had success as they captured Egypt, Syria and the Levant but that
momentum did not last. In the year 610 a new emperor arose for the Byzantine empire and his name
was Heraclius and he created a treaty with the Persians. In 627 he wanted to end the 25 year war and
he and his forces defeated the Persians at the Battle of

Pich, Loch and De Meyer [12] describe a type of project that encounters unknown unknowns and how
it is best suited to what they called a learning strategy which involves scanning, problem solving and
ļ¬‚exibility. They argue that this is distinct from projects conducted in well understood environments
which are suited to instructionism , and distinct from selectionism where the most fruitful initiative is
chosen after a pool of trials. Turner and Cochran [13] espouse the goals and methods matrix that
describes four diļ¬€erent types of project according to how well deļ¬ned the methods and goals are.
Projects can have poorly deļ¬ned goals ( ļ¬re ) or poorly deļ¬ned methods ( water ), or both ( air ).
Shenhar and Wideman [14] describe a type of project that involves high levels of uncertainty, using
technologies together for the ļ¬rst time. They call these high tech [14]. They also describe a type of
project that actually creates new technologies, called super high tech . Shenhar [15] describes how low
technology projects are typically performed in construction, production and utilities, and high
technology projects in the computer, aerospace and electronics industries. He oļ¬€ers building and
bridge construction as examples of low technology projects. The key

The Success Of Any Business
The success of any business can be traced back to management. For this reason, managers need to be
able to adapt to and address the changing needs of not only their customs, but even more importantly,
their employees. Change is always occurring, and the manner in which an employee s needs are
attended to in present day society, is rather different from that of 100 years ago. The development
from the 19th and early 20th century management strategies, to the current management
understanding, was not a change that occurred overnight. It was a gradual movement from the earliest
management philosophy, the Classical Perspective, to the Scientific Management Approach, to today s
Humanistic Perspective. Developed in the 19th century, the Classical Perspective addressed the issue
of maximizing efficiency. Historically, during this time period, a majority of people in the workforce
were immigrants with no previous training or knowledge of the jobs they were set to perform. Thus,
managers were burdened with the task of converting these unskilled workers into employees who
performed their jobs correctly and in a timely manner, despite cultural barriers, in attempt to turn
businesses into efficient operating machines. The problems in industry during this time, such as
managing huge unskilled labor forces in factories, dealing with complex production systems, and
managing an expansive manufacturing operation, were the sole focus of the Classical Perspective.
This perspective did not

Little Skate Fishes Research Paper
Little skate fishes are known to be one of the dominant members of the demersal fish community in
the northwestern Atlantic. They live deep in the ocean, sitting in the ocean floor most of times. They
use these organs called spiracles as I mentioned above, they help the little skate to function oxygen to
reach internal respiratory organs and still intake oxygenated water over their gills. These spiracles are
slit like openings near their eyes. The process goes where water is taken in through the spiracles then
passes over to the gills which then leaves the body through five pairs of gill passageway underneath
the body. These little skate fishes live on by feeding on crabs, sea squirts, worms, squid, mollusks,
small fishes or any other small

A Speech On My First Lecture
President Pitzer, Mr. Vice President, Governor, Congressman Thomas, Senator Wiley, and
Congressman Miller, Mr. Webb, Mr. Bell, scientists, distinguished guests, and ladies and gentlemen: I
appreciate your president having made me an honorary visiting professor, and I will assure you that
my first lecture will be very brief. I am delighted to be here, and I m particularly delighted to be here
on this occasion. We meet at a college noted for knowledge, in a city noted for progress, in a State
noted for strength, and we stand in need of all three, for we meet in an hour of change and challenge,
in a decade of hope and fear, in an age of both knowledge and ignorance. The greater our knowledge
increases, the greater our ignorance unfolds. Despite the striking fact that most of the scientists that
the world has ever known are alive and working today, despite the fact that this NationĀ¹s own
scientific manpower is doubling every 12 years in a rate of growth more than three times that of our
population as a whole, despite that, the vast stretches of the unknown and the unanswered and the
unfinished still far outstrip our collective comprehension. No man can fully grasp how far and how
fast we have come, but condense, if you will, the 50,000 years of manĀ¹s recorded history in a time
span of but a half century. Stated in these terms, we know very little about the first 40 years, except at
the end of them advanced man had learned to use the skins of animals to cover them. Then

Boyle Heights Case Study Essay
Boyle Heights has significantly been a target for several projects and programs that have had impact
on the residential pattern, economic activity, and land use of the community. One of these project is
Pueblo del Sol, a housing project in the Boyle Heights district of Los Angeles, California. Pueblo del
Sol replaced the former Aliso Village in 2003, cutting the amount of units from 685 to 377, a 44%
reduction that displaced former residents. The proximity of Downtown LA is a little over a mile and
less than a mile away from major highways (I 10 and I 100). Pueblo del Sol is a close address for
access to the Disney Concert Hall and Little Tokyo and the area s restaurants, shopping, and
entertainment. While, the site is also adjacent to a Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension Light Rail
Station.
Much like today, in 2003 the majority of land use was multi family residential use. The figure below
(Figure 1) shows a Boyle Heights land use map, the residential neighborhoods are surrounded by the
community s industry creating a continuous belt along the northern, western, and southern edges. ...

The End Of Chattel Slavery Essay
Looking back in history, you will find that slavery was always present. There are accounts of slavery
in Babylon, Greece, and Rome, all occurring before the Common Era; but there was a major change
during the year 1619 in the way slavery was implemented. This form of slavery was known as chattel
slavery. Defined as A civil relationship in which one person has absolute power over the life, fortune,
and liberty of another (Legal dictionary.com), chattel slavery targeted African slaves that were brought
over from Africa to the Americas to support the production of crops such as tobacco and cotton.
Previous to the year 1619, slavery was used as a way to pay off debt or as seen in Rome it existed to
provide everyone with an equal opportunity. In examining the start of chattel slavery I pose three
questions: What was the true purpose of chattel slavery, why was chattel slavery only in America and
found nowhere else in any point of history, and are there forms of chattel slavery that exist today?
Answering these questions will be pivotal in explaining why chattel slavery was constructed.
A common misconception that most people have about the word slavery is that it is bad or people tend
to think about African slaves walking in chains and being beaten. History has shown and proven
numerous account of slavery so how come when we think of slavery we seem to think of the
stereotypical slavery (chattel slavery)? In fact, Classical Greece was the first society seen that had

Nvc Principles
1. The setting in which I had this past communication that I felt I was not very successful as I wished
happened last semester in the fall. I remember it being a cold, stormy, and raining Saturday afternoon
in my cozy apartment. I was sitting on my bed talking to my roommate about how the apartment
environment needed to change with the other roommates and us. After an hour of discussing what we
wanted to address with our other two roommates, we decided that it was time to actually work on the
problems with the them. Nervously my roommate and I walked across the apartment to their bedroom.
We both exchanged looks and took a long deep breath before knocking on their door. The other two
girls answered their door, but appeared shocked and confused ... Show more content on

One situation in which I would feel that it would be most difficult to apply the NVC principles for me
would be when I am fighting with my mother. Personally it would be a challenge to stay so calm in
my exchange with her, because I know that she will always be there for me regardless of what
happens or is said. Also, the fact that she knows me like no one else makes it even more difficult to try
and change the way I communicate with her, even if it s for the better. In the past, I have not been very
successful in two NVC principles. Those two NVC principles are statement of feeling and statement
of need. Whenever, I have a conversation with a person and I need to let them know how I am feeling,
it never comes out the way I mean it to. A part of that issue has to do with me using the wrong words
to describe my feelings. A situation where I had a difficult time applying statement of feeling was
during an interaction I had with my boyfriend. My boyfriend accidently double booked on our date
night, which resulted in him wanting to reschedule our it. Usually I wouldn t have minded moving our
date night, but I had been planning this night for weeks. He didn t seem to understand why I was so
upset, and I remember telling him that I felt so abandoned and disrespected that he forgot about it. At
the time of this interaction, I just expressed what I was feeling blindly. However, after analyzing this
communication, I realize that I was not using the NVC principles. I should have used statement of
feeling in the NVC way. For example, I should have said I feel sad and depressed that you forgot our
date night. I was beginning to wonder if it s not a priority for you to have these special nights. From
that experience I learned that I can improve on this NVC principle is by telling the person my
emotions and/or physical responses rather than using thoughts or interpretations masquerading as

Persuasive Speech On Early Sex Education
They say kids are the future. What type of parents are raising our future? When you look at these 20
crazy, immature parents you might get worried.
#20 Bath Time When you have children there are certain things you are expected to do for them, and
giving a bath is just one thing on the list. One parents found daily routine life to be rather boring so
they decided to put their baby girl in the toilet. She looks happy, but what do children know?
#19 Hit me Baby one more time Being a mother is a huge risk all by itself, but being a gambling
mother, well that s a whole new level. You never know beforehand what people are capable of, but
leaving your infant on the floor while you are on a winning strike is NOT acceptable.

  • 2. Research Paper On The City Of Lights Paris is known worldwide for its art museums. There are dozens of museums in The City of Lights, each with its own special treasures and unique pieces of art. The Louvre is the most famous of them all. The story of its creation coupled with its architecture, art work, and beautiful outdoor grounds including the recently added Great Pyramid the sits in front of the grand museum sets the Louvre apart from other museums across the world. The Louvre was not always a museum. With its construction beginning in the 12th century, the Louvre started was a fortress and grand palace with architecture in the French Renaissance style. • 4. Physical Therapy And Mental Therapy Essay Physical therapy has been a crucial and exciting part of my life since my junior year of high school. I have experienced physical therapy in multiple settings and from the perspective of a patient and therapist. Each inspiring experience has strengthened my desire to become a physical therapist, in my pursuit to help people in the most wholesome way. I have had the pleasure of working closely with a physical therapist from Crossroads Physical Therapy through my years of exploring this profession. Dr. King was my therapist, and I was also lucky enough to observe her practice with her other patients. While I was a patient, I was able to see firsthand how the treatments were executed. I could feel how precise each body movement and hand placement was. Everything that was done had a purpose and I could feel my muscles respond to the treatment with the guidance of the therapist s hands. I have been to physical therapy for multiple reasons over the past several years, for things such as knee subluxations and gait impairments, but I remember the treatments regarding my sacral torsion vividly. Due to the misalignment of my sacrum, I had a great deal of tension in my hips and the lumbar region of my back. Going through this experience allowed me to feel how a physical ailment in one part of the body can affect multiple other aspects of a person, including the mind. Having pains and being in constant discomfort can impact everything from your plans for the day to your outlook on life. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Indentured Servants In New England 3. Indentured servants were very important to the development of the colonies. In the early years, there were labor shortages and indentured servants provided cheap labor. By bringing in people with specialized skills and providing immigration for other who could not afford, indentured servitude helped the colonies expand. The colonies had a lot of land, and indentured servants made up half the population (parliament announced that convicts could escape the hangman by relocating to the colonies.)This led to a quicker progress of initial growth of the colonies. Although this system helped with the growth of the colonies, it was replaced by the 1700 s with slaves. The reason was that slaves served for life instead of servants who served for 4 7 years. This was more profitable than buying servants over and over again. Also, once you owned a slave you owned their children, which was a bonus because you wouldn t have to buy any more slaves. Overall, slaves replaced servants because they were more profitable to buy and the supplies of these slaves seemed inexhaustible since there population was matching the number of whites at that time and ... • 7. Kidney Stone Diseases Since the occurrence and progression of various human pathological conditions have been proposed to have an involvement of uric acid (UA), a number of researchers have therefore attempted to elucidate the potential roles of UA underlying the pathogenesis of UA related diseases (1, 2). Among these, UA is well documented in kidney stone diseases since it serves as not only a main crystalline composition of pure UA but also a principal risk factor for hyperuricosuric calcium oxalate (CaOx) kidney stone disease (3, 4). These two kidney stones account for a significant percentage of stone forming patients and have an increasing prevalence worldwide over the past few decades. Nevertheless, the molecular mechanisms underlying UA related kidney stone diseases are still not well understood. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... UA can widely affect various cellular functions; therefore, the tight control of serum UA level is necessary to maintain cellular homeostasis under normal circumstances. Kidney serves as a major excretory organ to control a balance of UA by which excessive UA is eliminated from the body through urine (5). Consequently, the defective renal handling of UA can cause an imbalance in UA levels in plasma and urine, and contribute to the development of several diseases, especially kidney stone disease (1, 4). Hyperuricosuria is typically defined as an excess of urinary uric acid; greater than 800 mg/day in men and greater than 750 mg/day in women, which has been recognized as one of the most common metabolic abnormalities in kidney stone patients (6). • 8. Pros And Cons Of Gun Control In The United States Controlling Our Guns is not the Way to go Being a daughter of a game warden and also growing up in the rural southern parts of Tennessee, I have always been exposed to firearms my entire life. There is a famous quote that is relevant to gun control, there are no bad guns, only bad men (Squires, 2002). Placing restrictions on firearms has been one of the biggest political affairs in not only America but other countries as well. Firearms in America make up $24 billion of our economy, therefore, we can say that guns play a major role in the U.S. Many people believe implementing gun laws and regulations seems to be more of a disadvantage than an advantage to our country, because gun control has failed in places like Ireland and the United Kingdom. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The definition of gun control involves politics, legislation, and how the use of firearms is being restricted (Charles, 2015). The main arguments over gun control is mainly a relationship between the state s powers to regulate public order over citizens (Spitzer, 1998). Controlling our guns does not reduce crime and violence which has been demonstrated by other countries such as Ireland and the United Kingdom and the United States government should look to those countries as examples. When the Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution, they wrote it based on justice and what was fair to the American people. The purpose of the Constitution is to be the law of the land, therefore, it establishes and maintains order for that provides a guiding hand for citizens (Spitzer, 1998). Laws banning firearms would only be followed by the law abiding. Citizens living in the United States have had access to guns since the beginning when they were used to hunt and gather food and as a mean of protection. Nowadays, hunting is still a sport enjoyed by millions, who already have many regulations that they must follow. When the Second Amendment was written, it was meant for everyone is the United States. Established officially by Europeans in March of 1638 (Source 3), New Haven has a detailed history of population declines and growth. The territory that is now New Haven was once inhabited by the Native American group the Quinnipiack (Source 6). The accrual of land was easy for the English settlers in this territory due to the conflicts between the Native American groups. The most positive Native American character in the film was Kicking Bird. Since he was the holy man of the Lakota people he was very calm and collected. Cultural Destruction Of Aboriginal Culture MINOR ESSAY From first contact with colonisers from Britain in 1788, Aboriginals have been forced to defend their sovereignty over their self determination as a free and independent culture (Briscoe 1993, p. 136). In the present day, attempts to scrutinise historical evidence have been made to identify to what extent the effect of British colonisation had on Aboriginal culture. The photo depicting the team of Aboriginal cricketers is an example of this historical evidence and thus, the subject of such scrutiny. Memorialised in the history of cricket is the team of first Aboriginal cricketers that toured England in 1877 for a series of matches (Crombie Kruger 2012, p. 9). On the surface, the tour appears to be a benign and harmless sporting event, a logical eventuality of interacting cultures consisting of Aboriginal Australians and British colonisers. Drescher (2010 p. 92) discusses in his book that after the ethical abolishment of human slavery in the United Kingdom with the Slavery Abolition Act 1833, public perceptions of differing races and cultures shifted from overt to covert racism. Instead of kidnapping, detaining and enslaving Aboriginal Australians, British colonisers sought to transport and exploit them. This was all occurring during the time of Victorian era England, where a series of racial ideologies were dedicated to explanations of human difference (Sampson 2000, p. 37). These ideologies ...established explanations of human otherness , backed up by emerging junk science that legitimised arguments for racial and cultural difference (Sampson 2000, p. 37). This science claimed that a series of physical characteristics determined behavioural and intellectual capabilities and constructed a hierarchy between races (Sampson 2000, p. 37). Such was the construction of an ideology of race that was defined by superior and inferior humans. It was the ideological manifestation of the global supremacy of British colonialism and their systemic dominance of Indigenous peoples. Men are the rulers, some women have limited power, and most women are controlled and have no power. The representatives of these women with limited power in the novel are the Aunts . They are the women who are convinced that this kind of rule of Gilead is justified. The Aunts like Aunt Lydia, belongs to the class of women assigned to coach the Handmaids with the beliefs of Gilead and it is her words that drum the ideology of the new society into the heads of the women. • 39. Pilot Episode Audience The pilot episode is one of the most important parts of any tv series. Its job is to make an audience want to return and watch the next episode. For a pilot to successful in this regard it needs to be inclusive of a wide audience. A broader audience helps to increase the number of return viewers. A pilot episode should also feature a main character who appeals to the audience emotionally. If a viewer becomes emotionally invested in a character, they are far more likely to watch the next episode. Robot s failure to be inclusive toward a wide audience should have been detrimental. How then, did such a show manage to become loved by so many? The pilot should have been turning viewers away, but instead Mr. Robot was so well accepted that it was awarded two Emmys and received four additional nominations. The reason for Mr. Robot s success lies in the fact that Elliot Alderson is an empathetic main character in whom the audience easily becomes emotionally invested. One of the most heart breaking scenes in the pilot of Mr. Robot, is when Elliot comes back from work to his empty apartment, and begins to cry. Sometimes I dream of saving the world... Elliot says in the voiceover, but I can t....I m not special. I m no one. In that moment Elliot is overcome with helplessness. He wants to make the world a better place but he doesn t believe he has the ability to, and it causes him to despair. He is alone, with no friends or family to comfort him, and so he turns to morphine. While Elliot s actions in response to his suffering are specific, his circumstances are universal. Feelings of helplessness, especially in a world filled with terrorism and poverty, are not uncommon, and loneliness is an emotion with which all can identify. It is easy then, for the viewer to relate to Elliot in this moment, and to understand why he would feel the need to self medicate. Through this scene a powerful emotional connection is fostered, and one cannot help but to empathize with Elliot. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pich, Loch and De Meyer [12] describe a type of project that encounters unknown unknowns and how it is best suited to what they called a learning strategy which involves scanning, problem solving and ļ¬‚exibility. They argue that this is distinct from projects conducted in well understood environments which are suited to instructionism , and distinct from selectionism where the most fruitful initiative is chosen after a pool of trials. • 43. The Success Of Any Business The success of any business can be traced back to management. For this reason, managers need to be able to adapt to and address the changing needs of not only their customs, but even more importantly, their employees. Change is always occurring, and the manner in which an employee s needs are attended to in present day society, is rather different from that of 100 years ago. The development from the 19th and early 20th century management strategies, to the current management understanding, was not a change that occurred overnight. It was a gradual movement from the earliest management philosophy, the Classical Perspective, to the Scientific Management Approach, to today s Humanistic Perspective. Developed in the 19th century, the Classical Perspective addressed the issue of maximizing efficiency. Historically, during this time period, a majority of people in the workforce were immigrants with no previous training or knowledge of the jobs they were set to perform. Thus, managers were burdened with the task of converting these unskilled workers into employees who performed their jobs correctly and in a timely manner, despite cultural barriers, in attempt to turn businesses into efficient operating machines. The problems in industry during this time, such as managing huge unskilled labor forces in factories, dealing with complex production systems, and managing an expansive manufacturing operation, were the sole focus of the Classical Perspective. I am delighted to be here, and I m particularly delighted to be here on this occasion. We meet at a college noted for knowledge, in a city noted for progress, in a State noted for strength, and we stand in need of all three, for we meet in an hour of change and challenge, in a decade of hope and fear, in an age of both knowledge and ignorance. The greater our knowledge increases, the greater our ignorance unfolds. Despite the striking fact that most of the scientists that the world has ever known are alive and working today, despite the fact that this NationĀ¹s own scientific manpower is doubling every 12 years in a rate of growth more than three times that of our population as a whole, despite that, the vast stretches of the unknown and the unanswered and the unfinished still far outstrip our collective comprehension. No man can fully grasp how far and how fast we have come, but condense, if you will, the 50,000 years of manĀ¹s recorded history in a time span of but a half century. • 47. The End Of Chattel Slavery Essay Looking back in history, you will find that slavery was always present. There are accounts of slavery in Babylon, Greece, and Rome, all occurring before the Common Era; but there was a major change during the year 1619 in the way slavery was implemented. This form of slavery was known as chattel slavery. Defined as A civil relationship in which one person has absolute power over the life, fortune, and liberty of another (Legal dictionary.com), chattel slavery targeted African slaves that were brought over from Africa to the Americas to support the production of crops such as tobacco and cotton. Previous to the year 1619, slavery was used as a way to pay off debt or as seen in Rome it existed to provide everyone with an equal opportunity. In examining the start of chattel slavery I pose three questions: What was the true purpose of chattel slavery, why was chattel slavery only in America and found nowhere else in any point of history, and are there forms of chattel slavery that exist today? Answering these questions will be pivotal in explaining why chattel slavery was constructed. A common misconception that most people have about the word slavery is that it is bad or people tend to think about African slaves walking in chains and being beaten. History has shown and proven numerous account of slavery so how come when we think of slavery we seem to think of the stereotypical slavery (chattel slavery)? In fact, Classical Greece was the first society seen that had slave ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I remember it being a cold, stormy, and raining Saturday afternoon in my cozy apartment. After an hour of discussing what we wanted to address with our other two roommates, we decided that it was time to actually work on the problems with the them. One situation in which I would feel that it would be most difficult to apply the NVC principles for me would be when I am fighting with my mother. Personally it would be a challenge to stay so calm in my exchange with her, because I know that she will always be there for me regardless of what happens or is said. Also, the fact that she knows me like no one else makes it even more difficult to try and change the way I communicate with her, even if it s for the better. In the past, I have not been very successful in two NVC principles. Those two NVC principles are statement of feeling and statement of need. Whenever, I have a conversation with a person and I need to let them know how I am feeling, it never comes out the way I mean it to. A part of that issue has to do with me using the wrong words to describe my feelings. A situation where I had a difficult time applying statement of feeling was during an interaction I had with my boyfriend. My boyfriend accidently double booked on our date night, which resulted in him wanting to reschedule our it. Usually I wouldn t have minded moving our date night, but I had been planning this night for weeks. He didn t seem to understand why I was so upset, and I remember telling him that I felt so abandoned and disrespected that he forgot about it. At the time of this interaction, I just expressed what I was feeling blindly. However, after analyzing this communication, I realize that I was not using the NVC principles. I should have used statement of feeling in the NVC way. For example, I should have said I feel sad and depressed that you forgot our date night. I was beginning to wonder if it s not a priority for you to have these special nights. From that experience I learned that I can improve on this NVC principle is by telling the person my emotions and/or physical responses rather than using thoughts or interpretations masquerading as ...
