Production Process Evaluation
Research
Strengths
• Some strengths of research were that it helps to see what a professional magazine looks
like and to help find out positioning and layouts for my own product.
• Another strength of research is that it gave me some colour scheme ideas and content
ideas for my product.
• Finally research also helped me to see what has previously been made to avoid
copyright.
Weaknesses
• One of the weaknesses of research was that it was very time consuming and it took
away production time and more editing time.
• Research also made it difficult to find certain magazines as you need exact names. This
is because there are so many different magazine genres and a lot of similar magazines
within each genre so you would need exact names.
• Another weakness of research was getting correct and legitimate results from them and
could get inaccurate results.
Planning
Strengths
• Planning helped me visualise how my product will be constructed and executed. It put it
into a better perspective for me to see what I could add or change.
• Another strength of planning was that it helped me to develop initial ideas further and
build on what I already had to make it more professional.
• Finally planning helped me to be more prepared and put any obstacles into perspective
for me so that I could figure out how to get around them or work with them.
Weaknesses
• Planning also had weaknesses. For example it was quite time consuming and it took a
lot of time away from main production of the product.
• Another weakness was also the fact that you don’t get a visual idea of what you are
going to fully make. This would put some of your editing ideas in the dark or make the
process slower if it doesn’t work in production as you have to go back and try another
idea.
• Planning also may not have fully developed or thought out your idea therefore you
would have to make some decisions in production that you. Have not seen so you don’t
know if they will look good.
Time Management
I believe I managed my time well. This is because I stuck to the deadlines for each
PowerPoint and completed my product on time. If I had more time on this project
then I would have maybe looked into editing some different images on the front cover.
This would make me push my editing skills further and give the audience more to look
at. Some things took shorter than I expected such as the masthead. I thought that the
masthead would take a lot longer than it did as I thought that I would be looking for
different fonts and technical qualities. I did however know how to make outlines
around the masthead already therefore that sped the making up. On the other hand
some things took longer. This was in the making of the double page spread. I had to go
back a few times and change some grammar and spelling mistakes. I also had to
change some placing of the images as text didn’t fit or they didn’t look right. Overall
that was the only fault in my time management and I thought everything else was on
point.
Technical QualitiesBoth my product and the
existing product use high
end branded cameras. This
has been done to relate
the audience to a well
known brand and make
them think that the
magazines are professional
as we use industry level
cameras.
Both products have one main
image that strikes the audiences
immediately and captivates them.
This is done to make the audience
want to achieve something like
this and create their own
professional photography pieces.
My product is a very
natural picture with limited
editing whereas the real
product is highly edited
and inverted colours. This is
done to show off the
editing skills of the existing
product whereas my
product shows that you
don’t need a lot of editing
to get a good reaction from
the audience.
My product has a black outline
surrounding it. The real product is
very simple and basic. The real
product is simple to show that
you don’t have to use a lot of
detail to get a good effect from
the audience. However I have
used outlines on my product
because it made the title really
stand out more to the audience
and properly show them what my
magazine is about from the
photography terminology that I
have used in my title.
Aesthetic Qualities
I think my work did look good and aesthetic. I
think it was creative and I explored lots of ideas
and editing that was out of my comfort zone.
Some aspects of my my work that I like is things
such as the superimposed image of the camera
over the masthead. I like this because I think it
makes my work look more professional and
makes the audience believe that my magazine
is well known. Some strengths in my work
would be my colour schemes. For example I
believe the main heading links well to the trees
and looks very aesthetic. I also like the little
hints of yellow in my front cover as they link
well to the environment. Some weaknesses in
my work would be the arrow at the bottom of
the page. This is because some of the red
colourings stick out from me not drawing
carefully in my guidelines. This does not look
very professional and if I had more time I would
go back and make it more precise.
Audience Appeal
I have appealed strongly to my target audience because I have spoken about different types of
cameras and different settings that come with them. Only my audience would be able to
understand these types of settings as they will have cameras and personalised settings for
themselves. They will want to read about more cameras and settings to fully maximise there
photography experience. They will also enjoy some of the pictures as they are a good quality
with lots of themes and colours that will give my audience inspiration and will maybe give them
more ideas about natural photography and how to do it.
Peer
Feedback
Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– Very good colour scheme pulls everything
together
– Very clear and organised easy to read
– Very good images and good layout
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– Move bar code on front magazine or try and fill a
little more space
Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– I liked the variety of pictures and that the camera
angles were very very good.
– I liked the layout on both the front cover and
double page spread as it brings everything
together.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– Try change the barcode position.
Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– I liked the colours and the layouts.
– I liked the fonts and font colour.
– I liked the masthead edits and effects.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– Maybe add who took the pictures to every picture
just to make it clear to the audience.
Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
– I agree that I should have signed off every image
because there could have been some confusion over
which image where mine and which were not.
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
– I disagree that the barcode could have been moved
because I think that placing it any other place then it
would be in the way of something or it would be
Peer Feedback Summary
The barcode could have been moved as I tried it in multiple
places and the place I had it was the only possible place that it
fit. I thought about not having it on and saying that it was on the
back of the magazine but to fit guidelines and to be professional
I had to use it. I could have used some more space if I made the
barcode smaller and utilise it more but I thought I had got
everything that I wanted in it. I should have signed off every
image as it would make the audience fully understand that the
images I took were mine. It would also make my work more
personal and make the audience believe that in the future my
magazines would be personal and copyright free.

  • 5. Time Management I believe I managed my time well. This is because I stuck to the deadlines for each PowerPoint and completed my product on time. If I had more time on this project then I would have maybe looked into editing some different images on the front cover. This would make me push my editing skills further and give the audience more to look at. Some things took shorter than I expected such as the masthead. I thought that the masthead would take a lot longer than it did as I thought that I would be looking for different fonts and technical qualities. I did however know how to make outlines around the masthead already therefore that sped the making up. On the other hand some things took longer. This was in the making of the double page spread. I had to go back a few times and change some grammar and spelling mistakes. I also had to change some placing of the images as text didn’t fit or they didn’t look right. Overall that was the only fault in my time management and I thought everything else was on point.
  • 6. Technical QualitiesBoth my product and the existing product use high end branded cameras. This has been done to relate the audience to a well known brand and make them think that the magazines are professional as we use industry level cameras. Both products have one main image that strikes the audiences immediately and captivates them. This is done to make the audience want to achieve something like this and create their own professional photography pieces. My product is a very natural picture with limited editing whereas the real product is highly edited and inverted colours. This is done to show off the editing skills of the existing product whereas my product shows that you don’t need a lot of editing to get a good reaction from the audience. My product has a black outline surrounding it. The real product is very simple and basic. The real product is simple to show that you don’t have to use a lot of detail to get a good effect from the audience. However I have used outlines on my product because it made the title really stand out more to the audience and properly show them what my magazine is about from the photography terminology that I have used in my title.
  • 7. Aesthetic Qualities I think my work did look good and aesthetic. I think it was creative and I explored lots of ideas and editing that was out of my comfort zone. Some aspects of my my work that I like is things such as the superimposed image of the camera over the masthead. I like this because I think it makes my work look more professional and makes the audience believe that my magazine is well known. Some strengths in my work would be my colour schemes. For example I believe the main heading links well to the trees and looks very aesthetic. I also like the little hints of yellow in my front cover as they link well to the environment. Some weaknesses in my work would be the arrow at the bottom of the page. This is because some of the red colourings stick out from me not drawing carefully in my guidelines. This does not look very professional and if I had more time I would go back and make it more precise.
  • 8. Audience Appeal I have appealed strongly to my target audience because I have spoken about different types of cameras and different settings that come with them. Only my audience would be able to understand these types of settings as they will have cameras and personalised settings for themselves. They will want to read about more cameras and settings to fully maximise there photography experience. They will also enjoy some of the pictures as they are a good quality with lots of themes and colours that will give my audience inspiration and will maybe give them more ideas about natural photography and how to do it.
  • 10. Feedback 1 • What did you like about the product? – Very good colour scheme pulls everything together – Very clear and organised easy to read – Very good images and good layout • What improvements could have been made to the product? – Move bar code on front magazine or try and fill a little more space
  • 11. Feedback 2 • What did you like about the product? – I liked the variety of pictures and that the camera angles were very very good. – I liked the layout on both the front cover and double page spread as it brings everything together. • What improvements could have been made to the product? – Try change the barcode position.
  • 12. Feedback 3 • What did you like about the product? – I liked the colours and the layouts. – I liked the fonts and font colour. – I liked the masthead edits and effects. • What improvements could have been made to the product? – Maybe add who took the pictures to every picture just to make it clear to the audience.
  • 13. Peer Feedback Summary • What do you agree with from your peer feedback? – I agree that I should have signed off every image because there could have been some confusion over which image where mine and which were not. • What do you disagree with from your peer feedback? – I disagree that the barcode could have been moved because I think that placing it any other place then it would be in the way of something or it would be
  • 14. Peer Feedback Summary The barcode could have been moved as I tried it in multiple places and the place I had it was the only possible place that it fit. I thought about not having it on and saying that it was on the back of the magazine but to fit guidelines and to be professional I had to use it. I could have used some more space if I made the barcode smaller and utilise it more but I thought I had got everything that I wanted in it. I should have signed off every image as it would make the audience fully understand that the images I took were mine. It would also make my work more personal and make the audience believe that in the future my magazines would be personal and copyright free.
