Carter Smith created an album cover design using Photoshop. His strengths included thorough research to inform his design and planning each step, though planning all details could have improved his work. Peer feedback praised the unique and creative design but suggested adding more bold techniques or content to make it stand out more. Carter agrees some aspects like bolder colors could be improved and the feedback informed potential changes to better suit audiences.
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
3. Research
• A strength on my research is that I can gather important information and images
that are needed to complete my work and improve it. Another strength of if my
research is that it helps me improve on my Photoshop.
This helps me create more
important ideas that can help
me finish and create my final
design and product.
A weakness of my design is that
is can be very time consuming
always using Photoshop rather
than other applications.
• Another weakness of my design is that the time being used to create
Photoshop designs and products could be used in other les time
consuming products like texts and written information.
4. Planning
The strengths of my planning is that it makes a better
final product because I can edit and improve my final
product and design.
Another strength of my planning is that the final
product will be improved because if I plan it step by
step I can change little details to fit my needs and what
I want from the final design.
The weakness of my planning is that some on my work
I didn’t plan in little details. This made certain things
difficult to finish because of the little details.
A way I could have improved on this is that I should
have planned everything whereas I didn't’t plan
everything.
5. Time Management
• I managed time decently because my
Photoshop work and final design was
finished near to the being of the project
because I did it at home as well as at
college.
• I could have improved on time
management by doing more work out off
lesson and not wasting time by doing
small edits.
• If I had more time to expand my work I
would have produced music to go with
the album and imagery.
6. Technical Qualities
The similarities of my album compared to these albums on the right are that they are all dark and
mysterious, this is because it focuses on one image that is standing out and will draw your eye to
the Image.
The album
cover is
mysterious
and dark
like my own
creation.
The vintage
look gives it
a powerful
image.
7. Aesthetic Qualities
My work that I have produced is creative
and unique for what I aim for because
everything is different and isn’t copied to
anything. I also used the rule of three, this
means that the main image is behind the
side image of myself.
The strengths of this image is that it is well
done in the fact of editing and Photoshop,
this is because everything was edited, from
the birds to the image of the car. I would
improve the colour contact because it can
be seen as being to dim and dark.
One of the biggest strength of the design is that the colour contrast makes the Photoshop I
have created more in depth and more realistic, this is also because I used the rule of three.
Meaning the main image behind myself isn’t covered completely and the man is correctly
placed for the best location according to the rule of three.
8. Audience Appeal
I have a unique product that has
a unique design. This makes my
imagery different to any other I
have created and produced.
This has given a appealing look
for a audience that most things
haven’t. the bright colours with
the dim imagery is a perfect
contrast for a different design/
image.
From my questionnaire I have changed and modified the image
and the editing behind it. This gives the audience part of what they
wanted by giving them what they want. This improves the look and
the needs of the audience.
The contrast of the dark
with the light colours
makes a unique look of
the image.
This unique look
would change if the
imagery of myself or
the colours were
different but there not
because this contract
makes it different and
this is what I am
aiming for. This makes
the photo unique for
album cover I have
decided to make.
10. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– It is very cool and different from existing products
what are around from. It shows a very clear
narrative to the audience.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
-could more technique detail to it to make it stand out
from other album covers.
11. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– The creativeness behind it because its not just
copying someone else, totally original.
– Its also combining 2 things that usually go well
together, carter and explosions.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– I think it could have more content included in the
album cover because there is literally 2 sides to an
album cover.
12. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– Its got a very unique style to it and the fact that he
has included himself shows that he can be
independent.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– None
13. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
– I agree that there could be more on the image to
make it more bold but I wouldn’t change it because of
the original look.
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
– I disagree that there isn’t any improvements because
there is some improvements that could be made. Like
increasing the boldness of the Image.
14. Peer Feedback Summary
If I would have changed my
design/product I would improve the
colouring and also change some of
the imagery. This could make the
album cover a improvement from
what it is.
The feedback given has given me
ideas about what to change to suit
there needs. This means that I could
change or add some imagery.
The main point I gained from the peer feedback was that the colours
should be different because of the dark tones within the image. This
could make me change my design and choices for colouring because the
colour change could improve my work and make it a better design and
overall a better piece of work.
