The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

3. Research
• I found the research pages really useful, the first thing I looked at was the
existing products which allowed me to see if there was any products out
there like my idea. I found out there wasn’t really anything like my product
but I looked at products that I wanted to do it on, this meant I could see
what to include in my own product so I didn’t include unnecessary
features that wouldn’t match. The next thing I did to gather images from
other products to see what would work well and I also found text styles
and colors. This gave me an idea of what to include in my magazine such
as a good layout, images and colour to make my product appeal to my
audience. I then did some research on what price to sell my product and
what content would work well in this product, this gave me a brief idea to
what to include in my own magazine. I felt like my strength in the research
section was looking at products that already exist because I used to find
out what would work well on my product and what layouts and colors to
use.
4. Planning
• To plan my final product I looked at fonts and colour schemes that would
match the photography/ action sports genre I wanted to do. I gathered the
images I would be likely to use in my project like the bar codes and camera
lenses. I also did a layout plan for the magazine cover I made, this involved
where the title and the picture would go which made it easier for when I
made the real thing. I planned everything that I was going to do over the
time period and what order I was going to do them in, however I didn’t
stick to this plan as I did it quicker that expected but I feel like it didn’t
make any difference to the final product. I found that my strengths in
planning was finding images that relate to my ideas and would match well
with my final piece. I also found that I was good at planning the layouts
that I was going to follow when making my magazine cover.
5. Time Management
• I felt like I have managed my time well and I successfully finished my
production work on time. I could of saved time if I had collected the
sources I would need to create my final piece before I had started it. Also if
I had a clear idea on what I wanted to do for the layout of my double page
spread then I could have done it a lot faster as I could have got the images
right and put them where I wanted with out thinking about it too much. If
I had planned out what I was going to write about then I could have saved
time as I could have just copied that down instead of just writing as it
came in to my head. If I had more time I wouldn’t have changed anything
about how the product came out it would have just been the planning like
what I was going to write about and the layout.
6. Technical Qualities
Mine is on the left and it is
similar to the one made by scoot
mag. Scoot mags is a image of a
camera and the reflection of
someone doing a trick, while
mine is also image of a camera
but is the perspective from
behind the camera filming. They
both say photography edition at
the bottom.
Mine has little text
boxes saying what's
inside the magazine
the scoot mag
magazine has a
logo in the top
left.
Mine has a title
I tried to match the text at the bottom of the cover. Looking at the two
front covers together they look as if they would attract the same audience.
7. Aesthetic Qualities
It looks good because I copied
the layout from a professional
magazine to get my magazine the
best looking layout I could have.
I found HD images to add to my
product so then the is the best
quality possible.
It is good because
the images I choose
to use worked well
with the idea I had
and they fit well with
the layout I did.
What makes it
good is the way
the text it laid
out as it looks
professional.
I made the top
image overlap
on to the next
page to give it
more visuals.
The title looks good as it works well
with the image that it is on top of
and the white and underlined looks
good and professional.
It is good
because it has
a lot of
information
about the
equipment.
I used the ruler to
find the center of
the page.
8. Audience Appeal
My target audience that I had discussed in my proposal were male from the age of 14
or above. I wasn’t planning on aiming my magazine to any social group or
psychographic who are interested in shooting action sports . I think that the age rating
I had chosen is still appropriate for my magazine. I also think that the content of my
magazine still helps to match the age rating that I had planned. However I do think
now that my magazine could appeal to a larger amount of people than I had planned
in my proposal. The film/photography genre I had gone for in my magazine still makes
it more interesting to the male audience than the female audience because it is about
scootering and there isn’t many females in the sport or that film or take photos.
10. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
• What I like about the product is the simple
layout. This means it gets the point across quickly
and in the most efficient way. As well as the
amount of text is good enough so the reader isn't
too bored or is not satisfied it’s the perfect
amount.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
• More of a “starter pack” vibe
11. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
The front cover layout is presented well, the font fits in well
with the audience that it is aimed towards and the genre of
magazine. The image works well to surround the headlines
with. The layout of your double page spread is excellent, the
images are placed well around the text and there is a nice
flow of text that the images illustrate.
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
• One improvement I would suggest making to this
would be one more headline so the front cover looks
busier with text. This would show the content more
within the magazine.
12. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– I like the attention to detail on the camera on the front
cover as you have added the image from the background
to the screen and to the view finder and I like how you
have faded the view finder image to make it look legit. On
the double page spread I like how simplistic the layout is
and how easy to read the text is to read.
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
On the double page spread on the second page the layout
of the text changes and it’s a lot wider than the one on
page one so could try and get it to match.
13. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
• I agree with all the feed backs as they all speak
about different things and they would work
well to make the product better.
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
• There is nothing that I disagree with as they
are all good points
14. Peer Feedback Summary
What I would do next to make this product the best it could be from the
feed back I got I would have added more text to the front cover to make it
more busy as there is a lot of empty space this would make it more
effective as it will have more information and the reader might spot
something there interested in and want to read about that. Another thing
I would have done is make it more beginner friendly as a beginner they
don’t want to be jumping in and spending £500+ on a camera and all
these expensive lenses if there not sure if there going to progress in to the
media line of work using cameras. I will also keep all the text the same size
and width to make it seem like the same layout on the double page
spread.
