3. Research
• Strengths
– One strength is that I found the name of my product through research, during the
questionnaires as it was the most voted for out of three options. I did this to make
sure that the options I gave were appealing to the audience, and that they
wouldn’t be copyright.
– Another strength is the that I got to make sure that there was nothing to similar, so
that it didn’t look like a replica. This allowed me to have more creative freedom
while editing and creating the magazine. Also while being given more creative
freedom, it allowed me to do more experiments to see what worked and what
didn’t.
• Weaknesses
– I found that there were a lot of magazines in the same style which made it harder
to create something entirely original, but it made it easier to experiment. If I were
to do this again, one thing I would do differently is make sure that when looking at
existing products I should look at a more varied range of magazines.
– Another weakness was the creating the back covers, because on back covers of
photography magazine there is little writing and mostly photo, which made it
harder to make something different. One thing I would do differently to avoid this
is, make sure that I search even further to see the most common back covers are
and how they are laid out.
4. Planning
• Strengths
– One strength was the amount I got to decide myself as the other projects
had more restrictions, while the FMP allowed me to have a more creative
direction with the magazine. This also allowed me to chose the genre and
styles, which left me with a lot more to do and a lot more to be creative
with.
– Another strength was the styles that I chose meant that I had to put in a
lot more preparation for the final product, which meant that I had to do a
lot more at home which wasn’t the same for other projects. This allowed
me to make something that’s really unique and outstanding in the public
eye.
• Weaknesses
– One thing I could have done better is make sure that I get the photography
stage done earlier because when I did it, it was very last minute which
meant the quality of photography could have had a higher standard. If I
was given the opportunity to do this again I would make sure that I stuck
to a certain schedule, that gave me more time to do the photography
stage.
5. Time Management
• I believe my time management was mediocre because some
parts were well done but others were not very well planned.
• For example something that was done well was the editing of
the double page spreads because I could edit and create one
double page spread over two lessons and I did three so
making and editing the photos became easier to more I did it.
• On the other hand when it came to actually doing the
photography part I took a lot longer than I should have, as I
kept putting of going and doing the photography for the
double page spread, and the front cover and the back cover
photos were taken in the same photography shoot, so I should
have left more time to do it all.
6. Technical Qualities
Both back covers don’t have a lot of text but use the model as the main
stimulus to make people see that there isn’t a lack of content where their
could be.
On the other hand there is a considerable amount more content on this other
back cover in comparison to my own back cover. So if given the opportunity,
one thing I would do differently is make sure that there’s a lot more content
on the textual side.
7. Aesthetic Qualities
I believe that the work is created to a very good standard. I believe this because when
looking at other photography magazines there is a considerable amount less text in
comparison to mine.
On the other hand, there isn’t as much content as other magazines. For example with
the double page spreads the image takes the full page, while my double page spreads
have black bars on the top and bottom.
8. Audience Appeal
One thing I did that would appeal to the target audience is use monochrome and full
colour, I did this because from my survey when asking about the styles, it was 50/50
between full colour and monochrome so my work can appeal to either or.
Another thing I did that would appeal to my target audience was used the most
popular name for the Title of the magazine. It was close cut between ‘Clear’ and
‘Slight Photography’, but Clear came out on top, but I also used other master heads
for the other pages.
One thing I could have done is used more styles of photography and used different
angles to make the photography more diverse which would have captivated more of
the audience, but it also would have made the general audience more appeal to the
product because it would have had more content which would have made it more so
think about but also more to look out for.
10. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– I like the fact he includes the equipment he uses within some of
the pictures, and also credits the models used on the back
cover, he also states in the picture what is edited and how it was
done to make it look good, more than they already were. I like
the look of the website as it looks smooth and smart at the
same time as it looks professional
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
– I think with all the text boxes having a black background I also
think the text ”stretch” should also have it blacked out as with
the white text it hard to read in some areas. You said they were
monochrome but not all the pictures are.
11. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– What I like about the products is that its got clear imagery to it which shows that
you took your time on getting the photos.
– I also like that you have made all the pages different with the editing techniques. I
like the different editing techniques as it shows your skills in editing.
– I really like the layout on your website, how you can see the images then you can
click on them and see them bigger.
– I also like how you hover over the images it highlights them.
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
– The writing is a little small, however it is about the images mostly.
– The masterhead on page 2 it not lined up correctly with the others even though
you had the ruler lines.
– The captions for the portrait image aren’t correct as they’re all say monochrome.
Also under your name it says ‘Landscape photogaphy’ instead of photography.`
12. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– I like the covers of the magazine as they are good pictures, well taken
and they look professional. I also like the inside of the magazine, as
both pictures were very well taken and the descriptions and meanings
behind each photo were very interesting to read. I loved the editing on
the photos as well, as it made it appear more professional than it
already looked.
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
– There could have been more detail within the descriptions maybe, and
a different font as I personally found it difficult to read.
13. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
– One thing I agree about is that in each photo there is imagery that’s been
captured.
– Another thing I agree with is, that its very professional because when
taking the photos I already had an idea on what to do with them and what
to do to them.
– I agree with the comment on the captions and naming of some of the
website assets, as they are incorrect. What I would do differently is make
sure that im not just copying other pieces of text.
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
– I disagree that the font is hard to read, the only exception for its legibility
is when your reading from a distance.
– Another thing I disagree with is that the writing is too small because in a
real magazine the standard text size is 10px while my text is done in
14.75px.
14. Peer Feedback Summary
One thing I would have liked to do differently is spend more time taking more
professional photos because some of the photos look very rushed and that’s not
acceptable in the real worlds standards. So I would make sure that each photo
has a different meaning and also make sure I get more photos to chose from.
Another thing I would have liked to do differently is have more varied styles
because on the double page spreads there all in similar style, in similar locations,
which makes the work look very rushed and not as professional as I would have
liked. What I would do is make sure that I travel further for more foreign
photography.
Another change I would make is the front and back cover to be the same so that
there is a degree of consistency with the covers, as the front cover has a
warming orange undertone while the back cover is a light monochrome style.
What I would do differently is make sure that I create a pre-set for each piece I
do so that if I come back to making magazines, I would have pre-sets to go off for
editing techniques.
One Final change I would make is that I would give myself more time to make
the website and make sure that I thoroughly go through each item and to make
sure that there all stating the correct things and that their all individual so that
there is more content to be shown, which would make the work overall better
because when there is more content it makes the reader/viewer stay longer to
read each piece.
