Bsbwor5004 Case 4
The first step in the analysis was to categorize each patient by whether or not they passed the clinical
threshold during their treatment and if their change was reliable. Clinical cutoff scores and Reliable
Change Indexes (RCI) for the PHQ 9 and GAD 7 were obtained from past research
[@Delgadillo2012; @Griffiths2015; @Kroenke2001; @Spitzer2006]. Clinical cutoff scores for the
BASE 6 were obtained from unpublished pilot research and corresponded to the clinical cutoff of the
commonly used OQ 45 measure. The RCI for the BASE 6 was computed using data from two sources:
the pretreatment scores from the current study data set, and BASE 6 scores from a sample of

Auster Narrative Style
American writer and director Paul Auster uses different literary devices and narrative styles to create a
new form of crime fiction, that links the traditional genre characteristics with experimental metafiction
and postmodern irony. In the New York Trilogy novels published sequentially as City of Glass (1985),
Ghosts (1986) and The Locked Room (1986), Auster uses a number of different narrative styles
including pastiche, parody and intertextuality to mix postmodernism with crime fiction. Previously,
the most important aspect in a detective story according to Encyclopedia Britannica has been: solving
the crime and answering the whodunit question ( Detective Story ). For that reason, most literature on
criminal fiction has focused ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to literary criticist William G. Little: While the goal of detection is to uncover the whole
story, in Auster s work, nothing, especially not nothing, is grasped in its all. No case is closed...his
calculations and representations lead to no final illumination, no climatic discovery. (p. 133). It is
clear, that the postmodern detective fiction has a different purpose than just answering all the
questions and restore order. At the beginning of City of Glass the narrator describes that detective
Quinn s knowledge regarding crime in general, is very average: Like most people, Quinn knew almost
nothing about crime. He had never murdered anyone, had never stolen anything, and he did not know
anyone who had. He had never been inside a police station, had never met a private detective, had
never spoken to a criminal. Whatever he knew about these things, he had learned from books, films,
and newspapers. (p. 7). Therefore, Quinn as the writer of crime novels does not have any actual
information about real crime and his stories are not real, but the kind that parodies the genre on which
he lacks experience. On the use of parody M. H. Abrams says: it imitates the serious manner and
characteristic features of a particular literary work, or the distinctive style of

Environmental Sustainability And Its Impact On Canadians...
Nearly fourteen years ago, the Calgary based oil enterprise Enbridge announced its most controversial
project yet; to build a $6.5 billion oil duct from Bruderheim, Alberta to Kitimat, British Columbia
(Canadian Press, 2013, para. 1). It was to be named the Northern Gateway Pipeline .Enbridge s
preliminary announcement on the sixth of March, 2002, not only divided the province of British
Columbia on whether environmental or economic prosperity was more important, but the country of
Canada as a whole. Although the name Northern Gateway is well known in many Western Canadian
households, few truly know the details of what this project entails. Many environmentalists and
economists (Mortillara, Nicole, Global News, 2014) debate the benefits and the negative impacts that
this pipeline will have on Canadians and Canadian society. Others, though, are trying to understand
what steps are being taken to ensure environmental sustainability during construction, and for the
many years after its projected completion. This multi billion dollar project has many vocal opposers,
and a seemingly equal amount of environmental risks that accompanies it, all adding up to the general
consensus that this duct is not worth the economic benefits that it would produce.
Enbridge estimates that 99% of the crude oil from Alberta is transported to the United States.
Currently though, America s demand for imported oil is decreasing (AsiaPacific.ca/Canadian Oil), as

Ethan King Persuasive Speech
Society generalizes first world teenagers, describing them as trapped inside a bubble, shielded from
harsh realities of impoverished nations and living with the delusions that their problems dominate all
others. While this stereotype does not hold true for all young adults, the unfortunate truth remains:
many do not count their blessings. Recently with our soccer team, we had the opportunity to visit
Vista Maria, a home and school in Dearborn for girls ages 11 to 17 coming from abusive domestic
environments, including sex trafficking and family deficiencies. Interacting with the bright and
beautiful girls felt incredible and encouraged us and the team to truly understand how fortunate we
live. This trip inspired us to plan on visiting Vista ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the young age of ten years old, Ethan traveled to Northern Mozambique with his father to
rehabilitate water wells. He began kicking his shiny, high quality soccer ball with children in the
community and noticed their makeshift balls, created from plastic bags and twine (Couch). Ethan
recalls, When I left [Mozambique], I gave away the soccer ball, and the kids went wild, starting
cheering. It was crazy (Couch). Ethan s generous spirit urged him to give away the ball, a simple act
that changed his life completely. The priceless smiles and shouts, filling the air with hope, resonated in
his head. During the return flight to the United States, he decided to begin recreating the moment for
more kids around the globe by sending out soccer balls, an idea he named Charity Ball in 2010
(Singer). Ethan resides in Grand Rapids, Michigan, as a 17 year old who still loves soccer. He plays
on a club team called Midwest United and the Region II team in part of the Olympic Development
program ( Charity Ball ). Gaining support proved difficult in the early stages of Charity Ball. Multiple
rejected phone calls left Ethan unsure about his vision, but he refused to give up. Eventually major
athletic brands began positively responding, including Franklin, Rawlings, and Wilson which fueled
the process (Couch). Ethan s creativity, generosity, and perseverance in bringing his simple idea to life
has spiralled into Charity Ball, a successful and growing

Jacksonian Democrats Essay
Jacksonian Democrats viewed themselves as the guardians of the United States Constitution, political
democracy, individual liberty, and equality of economic opportunity. In light of the following
documents and your knowledge of the 1820 s and the 1830 s, to what extent do you agree with the
Jacksonian s view of themselves.
Unlike previous presidents, Andrew Jackson represented the common men. He and his followers did
not support the aristocrats, but instead favored the interests of farmers and urban workers. When they
gained power, the Jacksonian Democrats brought about great advances in creating a more democratic
and economically equal society.
One of the most important changes that Jackson brought was a much more democratic ... Show more

Jacksonian Democrats believed that any American was capable of holding government office. Jackson
also said that if a man were to hold office for a lengthy period of time, he would be capable of
tolerating conduct from which an unpracticed man would revolt .
Along with rotation, the Jacksonian Democrats reestablished the spoils system. Jackson fired any
previous office holder who was not a loyal Democrat. He would then appoint a Democrat to that
position. The spoils system and rotation were advances toward greater political democracy, because
they showed that one man is just as good as another is.
In addition to creating a more democratic country, Jackson also tried to establish equal economic
opportunity for the people of America. The best example of this is the vetoing of the charter of the
Bank of the United States. The bank was a huge monopoly. It was ran by aristocrats, most of which
were from England. Nicholas Biddle, who was the president of the bank, often used funds from the
bank to lend money to the members of Congress, thus wining their support.
In his veto message, Jackson wrote, It is to be regretted that rich and powerful too often bend the acts
of government to their selfish purposes. This was true, since the bank was used to provide for the
interests of the rich and not the common men such as the small farmers and urban workers.

Julie Taymor Influences
Julie Taymor was born on December 15, 1954 in Newton, Massachusetts to a doctor and a politician.
The youngest of three children, both more than six years older than her, she had a tremendous amount
of freedom (Molina). She lived through the turbulent 1960 s noticing how new circumstances caused
by the Vietnam war influenced the behavior of those around her and how these changes developed as
time passed. This close observation of what people went through and how it shaped them had a large
influence on what would become her creative basis not only for fabricating the costume design for
productions, but also for directing many theatrical, film, and opera works. After producing her first
theatrical work at age seven in her backyard, Taymor began to go to the Boston Children s Theatre
where she studied acting. At the age of ten, she was not only among the youngest there, she also did
not know many people as the company consisted of children from all over Boston. This began

Going first to Japan, Taymor studied traditional Japanese puppetry then went on to Sri Lanka, Paris,

twenties in a dirt floor compound with no running water, electricity, or telephone. When there, she
created Theater Loh, a troupe composed of actors, dancers, musicians and puppeteers from a multitude
of countries. With this company she created a trilogy called Way of Snow which served to explore
tensions between traditional Indonesian society and modern influences. Taymor carved all of the
puppets and masks used in this performance herself using wood from a tree outside her house
(Academy of Achievement). It was while she was in Indonesia that she had a life changing experience
that would change her perspective on theatre

Light Dbq
Thomas Edison took part in the early 1700 s debate on whether or not light was a wave or a particle.
He argued that light was a particle and not a wave. This debate divided the scientific community
because of the implications it had on how we view the world around us as well as what makes it up.
One of the arguments that light was a particle and not a wave was that the lines that shadows made
were extremely sharp. He argued that if light really was a wave, the edges of shadows would pulsate
or oscillate due to a wave s property of and having crests and troughs. Since he saw no oscillation
throughout his experiments he believed that light could only be a particle. This theory was supported
by lights rectilinear propagation. A simple experiment

1. Estimate the base (initial) cost of each alternative. Here, you just need to put in the appropriate RED
input from the information in the case study. The answers will be spit out. Which alternative has the
lower total cost? Why?
Alternative 2 has the lowest total per a procedure cost. Operating costs of Alternative 1 is $86.15,
which is lower than Alternative 2 of $92.15Alternative 2 is higher in operation al cost because there is
six dollars in extra costs assessed with travel and set up costs. When the other costs, which include
capital and maintance, are incorporated, Alternative 2 becomes the lower cost with an annual cost of$

Alternative 2 o Per a procedure Capital cost increases, as it is a shorter life span to pay off or gain a
return on the ultrasounds, with a shorter life span of 3 years with lower amount of capital costs the
increase is not as substantial as Alternative1 but still increase by approximately $7.75 per total cost
procedure.
In short term of 3 years I would Pick Alternative 2 as it is still the lowest cost and does not a
substantial increase in cost from the base case.
Long run 7 years
Alternative 1 o The per a procedure Capital cost decrease as the life span increase as more procedures

Alternative 2 o The per a procedure Capital cost decrease as the life span increase as more procedures

2 decrease by 3.36 from initial base case.
In the long term of 7 years I would pick Alternative 1. Although it is still a little higher in cost the cost

Long Distance Running Is Not A Sport For Wimps
Personal Observation #5 Long distance running is not a sport for wimps. Distance runners seem to
have a pretty strong connection with each other because of all suffering and pain that goes into
pushing their bodies to the limit. This is evident in the waves (or nods because one is out of breath)
exchanged between complete strangers that meet while out for a run. Cross country teams are even
more cohesive. With all the time spent together at practice, team members have a solid bond that lasts
long outside of running and practice. One the first day of track, the new freshman who were not in
cross country are a little lost. The distance runners have their little group, the sprinters have their
group, and the throwers have a group as well. The groups intermingle somewhat, but it is fairly easy to
tell who belongs in which group. You also associate people with what track group they belong to. The
track team is a group, and each discipline is a subgroup.
Even though I would not say that the subgroups are (probably) prejudiced against each other,
interaction does need to be improved. This can be done by implementing the things to reduce
prejudice like contact, common goal, friendly/informal setting, and interaction with multiple out group
members. When I was in high school, we formed small groups within the track team made up of about
six people from all grades and disciplines. In college track, we also have small groups of about seven
people that we do devotions with each week

Point Of View In Lenny Abrahamson s Film Room
Some films make an impression on our lives that last forever, award winning film Room directed by
Lenny Abrahamson, is one of those films. In Room a young woman named Joy is locked and hidden
away in a shed with her five year old son Jack. Joy was locked in what her and her son call room for
seven years. Joy was seventeen when she tried helping a man with his injured dog, but the man tricked
her and kidnapped her. Room has a very well thought out plot, but an even more well thought out
composition. The use of point of view for Jack and the opening and closing scenes of Room stand out
the most. In the film a point of view shot is used quite a few times. A point of view shot is very

This creates a sense of anxiety and anticipation. One cannot quite make out what is really going on

natural light source in the room, a sky light. Jack then starts narrating a story his mom Joy told him
about when he was born. While this narration is going on the film cuts to a shot of Joy and Jack in bed
Jack is just waking up. This releases some of the tension but there is still some residing anxiety and
one really can t make out what is really going on yet. Joy makes a plan to escape with most of the task
on Jack. After Jack completes his escape and leads the police back to his mom still locked in the room,
they go live together with Joys mom. Joy and Jack have a hard time adjusting to their new life. Joy
gets very depressed and has to seek treatment, while Jack stays with his grandma. When Joy and Jack

Examples Of Animals In Animal Farm
In the novel, all social classes of animals are discontented because of the treatment they get from their
owner, Mr. Jones. On the farm, Jones sets them [the animals] to work to grow and gather the resources

them the bare minimum that will prevent them from starving, and he keeps the rest for himself (8).
Jones cares about what he makes from the farm, meaning that the animals are not well cared for

The Liberating Madness
Name Class Prof Date A Liberating Madness in The Yellow Wallpaper What is madness? And what is
the state we define as sanity? Mental illness is characterized by disturbances in a person s thoughts,
emotions, or behavior. However there is no universally accepted definition. In general, the definition
of mental illness depends on a society s norms, or rules of behavior. According to Encarta Online
Encyclopedia, Behaviors that violate these norms are considered signs of deviance or, in some cases,
of mental illness. Therefore sanity and insanity are better understood as a construction of the society

to distinguish two different patterns: I didn t realize for a long time what the thing was that showed

independent person, not as her husband s possession or object of gratification of her culture. Later,
feelings of frustration and anger emerge as a result of the discrepancies between her desires and her
obligations: I can see a strange, provoking, formless sort of figure (Gilman 9). The narrator proceeds
to acknowledge her entrapment: the faint figure behind seemed to shake the pattern, just as if she
wanted to get out (Gilman 14). The climax comes when the narrator visualizes the figure as a woman
who finally rebels: The front pattern does move and no wonder! The woman behind shakes it (Gilman

Sayyid Qutb s Impact on Islam
2. Evaluate the impact on Islam of ONE significant person or school of thought.
Sayyid Qutb had a seemingly minimal impact throughout his life, but his teachings and ideology have
become of significant importance to the Islamic faith. However his views and thoughts of that are
somewhat extreme have lead some followers to form organizations which are involved with radical,
extreme and terrorist activities.
Qutb s teachings and commentary of Islamic teachings are seen to hold considerable authority and
significance to adherents of Islam. His main and most revered teachings included: the belief in Tawhid
(the oneness of God), the concept of Jahiliyya (pagan ignorance), jihad (struggle) and the need to

Thus it is evident, that Qutb s teachings in the ideal of jahiliyya were fundamental to the pathway that
Islam decided to follow, and did in fact promote the teachings of Islam and sustained growth.
Qutb was one of the most significant figures in the development of jihadi Salafi ideology. Qutb in true
Salafi style, reanalysed the Qur an to find new ideology. Qutb acknowledge that the contemporary
jama at (movement) would also encounter periods of weakness. Therefore he insisted that here was an
immediate need for a new movement. Qutb also constantly stated that there was a need for new
leadership. He claimed that the new leaders should engage in jihad (struggle) against jahiliyya, so that
a true Islamic state can be established. His teachings of jihad and the need to use force if the survival
of the Islam was under threat, is being used today out of his context of time by extreme terrorist
groups. Members of these radical groups say are not afraid to die for their cause because Qutb gave
them reason: For a pious life is a life of struggle or jihad for Islam, and struggle means martyrdom .
Qutb s actions, books and somewhat extreme teachings all greatly contributed to the revival of Islam.
He successfully contributed to the revival of the Islamic faith through his commentary and teachings
on the Qur an and the tradition. In this action, adherents were able to gain a greater understanding of

Personality Traits Of A Personality Trait Essay
NZ Personality Trait Research Gender differences in personality traits
A lot of research has been done regarding gender differences in personality traits; which have given
observable differences in previous research done on different levels of traits. This study addresses the
gender differences in the levels of neuroticism and agreeableness in New Zealand. Results show that
there are significant differences between the levels of neuroticism and agreeableness in males and
females with women having higher levels in both traits.
Introduction(600 900)
Are women and men largely different in terms of personality traits? Agreeableness and Neuroticism
are two conflicting traits Do they differ in terms of gender? This research will address if there is a
significant difference in the levels of personality traits between males and females. NZMA collected
data on New Zealand participants responds to questionnaire based on personality trait (Sibley, 2014).
This research will look at how the data shows gender differences on whether men have higher levels
of one trait than the other or do females have a lower level of one trait that the men are higher in.
Previous work has been done on looking at the different five traits on the Hexagon model and relating
it to the gender differences. Studies similar to this have been many times replicated with the traits

Airplane Monologue
I opened myself to the gentle indifference of the world. Finding it so much like myself so like a
brother, really. Camus words came to me as I stepped out the airplane and into the sky. It was on an
unplanned July day that my two best friends, Fiona and Matthew had decided to take me skydiving for
the first time. As I stepped onto the plane, Fiona gave me a smile. I was then left to myself. I felt
droplets of sweat drip down the side of my face, but I disregarded it, in hopes that it was due to the
density of the suit, unsuited for a hot summer day such as this. When I walked to my seat and tried to
settle myself, however, I realized the main problem wasn t the suit. Soon, the engine roared, giving
life to the airplane, and the ground started fleeing. From the side windows I could see the outside
landscape moving faster and faster, and finally, disappearing. Butterflies started fluttering in my
stomach, giving me a sense of nervousness different from anything I ve ever experienced before. I
realized then that this experience was more than a daring step into the uncharted... Sixteen hundred ft.

The others sitting around were making small talks. Each of them appeared calm, yet I could feel they
were tense. The slightly exaggerated titters, and uncertainty in their eyes gave them away. I suppose it
was the same with me, only that I hid my agitation with reticence. Shortly, my consciousness faded
and I delved deep into my mind, looking back at the back days, months, and years, looking for any
hints or events that may have led me here. I realized soon there was not a single coherent or
convincing explanation for this. Everything was as if I was guided by a greater force than life itself, a
force more primal and more ancient than reason or human aptitude. All of a sudden, it seemed so
awry. So

Analyse the Factors That Causes Differences in the Hazards...
Analyse the factors that causes differences in the hazards posed by volcanoes around the world (40
marks)
A hazard can be define as something which poses a level of threat the life, health, property or
environment, a volcano can compromise all these things through the many hazards volcanoes presents.
Such as lahars, flash flooding, landslides, pyroclastic flows, ash clouds and many others. There are
factors which can influence the severity of the hazard and cause differences in them and can be
classified into different categories, such as physical, economic, political and social.
One physical factor which causes differences in a volcanic hazard is the steepness of the volcano. If
the volcanoes sides are of a steep gradient then the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another physical factor is snow; if a volcano is snow capped, like Eyjafjallajokull, then the lahars and
flash floods become a greater hazard. The flooding in Iceland in 2010 caused 700 people to be
evacuated. Without the snow then lahars and floods may not be a problem at all.
The location of the volcano is also important. If it is situated on a constructive plate boundary then it
is generally less explosive, and therefore poses different threats to volcanoes situated on a destructive
plate boundary. The volcano may also be situated on a hotspot like in Hawaii, where the eruptions
aren t very explosive. Volcanos which aren t explosive can pose other threats to lava flows though,
such as dangerous gases being released. Like in Lake Nyos, Cameroon where 1700 people died.
Wind direction could also cause difference in the hazards, like during the Eyjafjallajokull eruption of
2010. If the wind was blowing in a different direction then the ash cloud wouldn t have been
distributed across the Atlantic and Europe, meaning that there would have been a lot less air travel
disruption. Then the ash cloud wouldn t have been a hazard as it wouldn t pose a threat to anyone.
Ultimately physical factors determine which hazards are posed by the volcano and how intensive and
threatening they are to human life. However they are not the sole factors that causes differences in
hazards posed by volcanos.

Natural And Man Made Disasters
This paper will discuss the differences between two different natural and man made disasters. The
disasters that will be discussed are Hurricane Katrina and the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
Additionally, this paper will look into the specifics of what constitutes a natural and man made
disaster. Specifically, this paper will look into each disaster to include the events surrounding them;
the risks; and the assessments. Furthermore, this paper will look at some of the details of each disaster
and why there was so much devastation. Finally, this paper will look at a few similarities, but mainly
the differences between the two, and how the effects of each still linger today.
Natural Disaster
Natural disasters are anything from floods, earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, or
anything else nature could develop that causes massive amounts of damage, or cause a large losses of
life. Such events are not anything caused because of human beings, but only by the actions of
atmospheric conditions, or due to the changes of continental drifts that these disasters occur.
Technology has come a long way since the early days before the industrial revolution where
predictions can be made and warnings can be issued. This helps reduce the amount of possible loss of
lives that would occur in 21st century. However, that is not what happened during Hurricane Katrina, a
category 5 Hurricane.

Field Education Goals
The children/youth had great ambitions and goals for their future. Therefore, I encouraged them to
keep God in their life and to obey their parents, teachers, and their leaders. Therefore, being obedient
is valuable, and it will take them a long way in life, and help them to become successful. However,
some stated they wanted to play different sports; others wanted to become doctors, and lawyers. I
replied always keep God first in your life; whatever your dreams always seek the Lord and He will
direct your path. They were encouraged and they were determined to do their part, and to depend on
the Lord to bring it to pass. The younger children had great expectations too. They wanted to be
teachers, doctors, and nurses. They also said; I can do all things through Christ which strengthened
me.
Therefore, as we proceeded into the eighth week; we discussed different people of the Bible. Our
discussions came from some of these books, I Samuel, Psalms, Matthew, and others. I continued to

Brotherhood And Morality In SEAL Team Six By Howard Wasdin
In chapters ten and eleven of SEAL Team Six, the primary author, Howard Wasdin utilizes the themes
of morality and brotherhood while depicting the nail biting Operation Gothic Serpent. The purpose of
this operation was to ultimately capture Aidid, or his lieutenants. Military fraternity is crucial to
performing any task. Wasdin s purpose was to stress the importance of the combination of brotherhood
and morality. Wasdin draws the reader into the story by the use of the themes of brotherhood and

History of The Ancient Religion Called Wicca
One of the greatest myths precipitated about Wicca is that it is an ancient religion. Wicca is not an
ancient religion. It has no ties to medieval or even pre ‐Christian religious beliefs. Wicca was inspired
by a theory of Margaret Murray, who proposed that there was one organized Cult of Diana. This idea
is largely dismissed as inaccurate and Murray s work is considered by scholars to be full of factual
errors.
Where Wicca began, is with Gerald Gardner in the early 1950 s. Gardner was stationed in India for
several years and while he was there, he studied the Hindu religion. He also had an interest in magick
and the occult . Once he returned to England and retired, he was initiated into a coven of witches in
1939. This coven was practicing magick and rituals from fragments of undetermined origin. Gardner
took these fragments and fleshed them out, adding and changing them until he had something that was
workable and more spiritually fulfilling than just the fragments. His work was heavily influenced by
Murray s work as well as Leland s Aradia: Gospel of the Witches and his studies into high ceremonial
magick, Hinduism, and the work of Alastair Crowley. Crowley s work features fairly prominently in
Gardner s work and there is debate about whether or not Gardner hired Crowley, just conversed with
him, or possibly stole his work to use. These filled in rituals received another re ‐write in the mid to
late 50 s when Gardner initiated Doreen Valiente into his coven.

Pattern generating circuits coupled to production of organic material with inorganic interfaces allow
bacterial colonies to generate composite structures with unique function.
Mother Nature generates sophisticated and complicated structures from the humblest of ingredients.
Often their construction relies on the self assembly of building blocks resulting in hybrid structures
that combine both organic and inorganic materials. For example, Shewanella bacteria are capable of
forming extracellular networks of arsenic sulfide nanotubes with unique electrical and

assembly of the major secreted curli subunit (CsgA) and an additional subunit CsgB. The authors
utilize the circuit described in Payne, et al (which consists of a positive feedback loop (mutant T7
RNA polymerase T7RNAP activates its own expression) and a negative feedback loop based on
production of a diffusible quorum sensing molecule AHL (see Figure 1). . Expression of the curli

curli to be expressed in the exterior of the colony, forming domed curli structures. In contrast, cells

Applying And Choosing A Place Of Higher Education Essay
As childhood comfort slowly slips away when children transition from elementary, middle, to high
school, the idea that seemed so fantastical in toddlers daydreams becomes concrete and frightening:
the future. High school students are presented with a short four year period to decide what they want
to pursue, and the junior year of high school is where most students are hit hardest. As a junior, the
daunting task of preparing for one s future is suddenly presented, and everything one has
accomplished in life, in combination with many standardized tests, will be assembled to do one task:
applying and choosing a place of higher education. Three important criteria in college searching are
admission standards, location, and athletic programs, and two post high school institutions, Rice

primary benchmark, the admission standards for a university will need to be evaluated in order to
decide if a college is suitable for one s academic rigor. Admission standards for Rice University

Important Aspects Of A Good School Leader
Important Aspects of a Good School Leader
Ronald Regan once said, The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things.
He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things.
The word leadership can evoke a variety of mental images; the president of a nation, an army general,
a CEO, school principal, or the captain of the football team. Leadership is about direction and
influence (Leithwood). Chemers states that, Leadership is the process of social influence where one

setting directions, a leader must also develop goals. Goals should be an extension of the school s

Technology And The Impact Of Technology
In recent years, two major aspects in technology have been steadily increasing in quantity of product
to optimize user consumer needs as well as their personalization. Through the Internet Of Things ,
technology corporates and manages information that the users go through in day to day experiences
with the help of Web 3.0 interactivity. Technology first changed the face of commercial marketing
with the use of online shopping. The internet allows for the user to buy their personal necessities
without leaving the comfort of their homes through the mobile marketing of websites and package
delivery. Take into consideration the near holiday event of cyber monday that follows the Black Friday
sales. While benefiting businesses through the platform of Ecommerce, online shopping proposes the
issue of job replacements and store discontinuations. Besides the modern desktop computer,
innovations such as mobile devices facilitate the methods of shopping. Smartphones forge the
versatility of banking and mobile purchasing using the interconnectivity of near field communications
(NFC) that opens opportunities of online transactions through the applications on mobile devices.
Technology s second commercial outbreak began with in the early 1970s with the inventions of digital
wristwatches and evolve to to popularized fitness trackers. Wearable technology, captures the essence
of minute shortcuts to lifestyle communications of the average individual. Following the mobile

The Role of African Americans in the Revolutionary War
An estimated 100,000 African Americans escaped, died or were killed during the American

of their status, the use of them during the revolution was inevitable(Mount). This led many Americans,
especially those from the North, to believe that the South s economy would collapse without slavery
due to the use of slaves on the front lines. However, only a small percentage of the slave population

for England. Washington s position towards blacks had made it clear that the individuals running the
revolution were not interested in black freedom, so the British offer literally produced a flood of
African American volunteers to the British Army. The escaped slaves were not merely good soldiers;
they were passionate and saw the British cause as a way to rebel against their American masters.
Despite being on the losing end of the war, slaves who fought for the British in the American
Revolution mark the beginning of an emancipation movement.
The center of the Southern economy was the slaves and their contribution to the plantation owners.
Southern agriculture was founded on the cultivation of tobacco, wheat, and corn in Virginia,
Maryland, and North Carolina, and of rice and indigo in South Carolina and Georgia. These crops
were cultivated with the help of black slaves, those that were not fighting in the war effort. Slaves
were the only reason there was enough money to pay for the war and political events. As a matter of
fact, most of America s political leaders were slaveholders themselves, including Thomas Jefferson,
James Madison, and Alexander Hamilton(Davis 116).

Object Storage Systems Are Complex Systems
Data Indexing
Object storage systems are complex systems that require high speed data management system to
handle the vast amount of object attributes. In CADOS, we take advantage of PostgreSQL
(Stonebraker and Rowe, 1986) database to store the object and stripe information. Namespace
technique is widely used to prevent the name conflict of objects with the same name. Each object in
CADOS is accessed via well defined namespace paths. The object path column is represented via ltree
structure (ltree, 2015) in order to support hierarchical tree like structure in an efficient way. This
structure allows us to use regular expression like patterns in accessing the object attributes.

All the communication between the master web worker and slave web workers are made in a message
passing fashion. At (2), master web worker distributes the URL list of the data segments across the
slave web workers which are created in the loading event of the web page. onmessage is an event
handler that is called when the message is posted to the corresponding web worker. In onmessage
handler of the slave web workers, unique IDs with URLs are posted to the slave web worker, then
each slave web worker starts retrieving data segments from the cloud object storage, again, by means
of AJAX communication technique (3). As the slave web worker finishes the retrieval of the data
segment, it posts the data pointer and corresponding index to the master web worker (4). Index of the
data segment is used to locate the data segment on the main cache created by the master web worker.
Because the data is passed to the master web worker using pointers, there is no data copy overhead.
Once all the slave workers finish data retrieval operations, the master web worker writes out the cache
to the hard disk (5). The downside of this technique the total amount of retrieved data is limited by the
RAM capacity of the user, although we anticipate this feature to be introduced in the future as a part of
HTML standard with the introduction of the File API:

Essay on Confessions
Saint Augustine s book Confessions talks about how increasing your knowledge through reading leads
you through a conversion in which you begin to recall things and their relevance through memory.
Socrates stresses the concept of increasing knowledge as a way to grow. Socrates also was the one
who wanted to have a field day teaching Saint Augustine. Saint Augustine uses his life to display to us
the way one s quest for God should be like. He believed that one must begin their journey by first
reading about God through books such as the Bible. Once one believes in God, they will have gone
through a conversion in which their memory allows them to remember their readings on God and

Augustine believes that your memory begins to recall the relevance of things. He describes memory as
The vast cave of memory, with its numerous and mysterious recesses, receives all these things and
stores them up, to be recalled and brought forth when required. (10.8.13 p154). He uses this
description of memory because as one is reading one does not try remembering everything, but once
one is converted everything that is in their memory starts to make sense and becomes relevant.
The concept of reading conversion and memory apply to God. It describes the quest in finding God.
One first reads about God and tries to understand him. After you have had some time to let what you
read sink in to your memory, your memory begins to recall the readings and you understand the
importance and relevance of what you read. It is because of your memories that you undergo a
conversion. Saint Augustine uses reading and memory to lead to a conversion in his life from not
believing in God to becoming a Christian. Saint Augustine confesses to God the following Have

many problems and they are bringing it to the United States. He later went on to say that they are
bringing drugs ,crime and rapists , This statement put the famous business man in hot water and made
many people angry including the Latino Community , average Americans and even his fellow
republican candidates. Many had claimed that trumps need for attention went

Benefits Of Payroll Outsourcing
Payroll outsourcing can save companies time and money. It allows the business to not waste man
hours handling a function that doesn t bring in any revenue. The cost of payroll processing is greatly
reduced by using a payroll service company. It usually costs more to pay an employee to handle the
payroll than it would cost to outsource to a professional company.
Another cost savings of outsourcing is avoiding penalties and fees from the IRS and state if a tax

all of the changes that happened in the industrial revolution. Things like farming, factory and
manufacturing, and communication and transportation.
One of the biggest changes was farming, it was a huge thing before the industrial revolution. It just got
better after. One of the big inventions was the steel plow. The midwestern soil was to thick for normal
iron plows. John Deere made the steel plow to cut through that soil for more farming land. Another
invention was the mechanical reaper. This made farming faster by having the crops mechanically
harvested. That let the people who had to harvest them by hand able to do something else. The
mechanical reaper was invented by Cyrus McCormick, in 1831 it was a big step in the farming

Examples Of Sexism In Their Eyes Were Watching God
Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston in 1937 was written during the time of the
Harlem Renaissance, also known as the New Negro Movement. The New Negro Movement came
about as a rejection of the racial segregation between blacks and whites. The black women felt this
effect of racism more acutely than the black man. For centuries, Black women have been called the
mule of the world and had been giving the status of inferior to white and the black man. Their Eyes
Were Watching God encloses many elements of both racism and sexism. It is a story set in central and
southern Florida. It follows the novels protagonist Janie in her search for self awareness as she goes

she arranges for Janie to be married to Logan Killicks, who is an older man with vast property to his

mocks Janie saying, So you don t want to marry off decent like, do yuh? You just wants to hug and
kiss and feel around with first one man and then another, huh? (Their Eyes Are Watching God, 13).
Her grandmothers gift of life is different from the life that Janie wants to live. She tells Janie, De
nigger woman is de mule uh de world so fur as Ah can see. (Their Eyes Are Watching God, 11).
Nanny doesn t believe that trying to find love and make a better life for you will succeed, she tells
Janie that marrying and older man with land to his name will bring security, and she shouldn t want
more than that. Because of this Janie agrees and goes along with the plan. She is depicted as very
compliant and rarely speaks her mind, even saying But Ah hates disagreement and confusion, so Ah
better not talk. It makes it hard tuh git along (Their Eyes Were Watching God, 90).
Later on after her first marriage has ended we can see that she eventually overcomes her desire to
avoid confusion in her second marriage to Joe, after he has humiliated

Early American Transportation
Transportation, a system for moving people or goods from one place to another. Throughout the
history there are many ways of transportation, such as road, boat, airplane that only appeared around
last century, etc. People use these tools to transport goods or themselves from one destination to
another. Even though different vehicles provide different speed and volume for transportation, the
most common and beneficial route is the land route. The dominant way of transportation on land is
always the train. The train not only can travel at a high speed it can also carry many things. The

Under the influences from the Europeans, American began developing its own railroad system. With
the vast amount of land available, the Americans were able to build railroads with far larger scale than
those built in Europe. The earliest railways in the United States were just like those earlier railroads in
Europe. They were short, wooden railways built by quarries and mines along which horses pulled
loads to nearby water ways. In the 1827, the mine and quarry operators built the first full size
railways. In 18329, the first locomotive for the railroads was imported from Europe. Although some
Americans such as Horatio Allen had been experiencing with locomotives, their locomotives were
proved to be too heavy for the tracks that had been constructed and was subsequently abolished. (
Railroads. Dictionary of American History) The railroad era in America truly began in the 1830s when
Peter Cooper s locomotive, Tom Thumb, first steamed along 13 miles (21 km) of Baltimore and Ohio
railroad track. (Rail transport, Early railroads in the US, Wikipedia) Tom Thumb traveled at speeds
approaching fifteen miles per hour while pulling a car filled with thirty people. This led the beginning
of train transportation of human not minerals or ore. However, not until the 1850s, though, did
railroads offer long distance service at reasonable rates. Not only the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad was
the first carry passengers but also the first to evolve from a single line to a network in the United
States. Railroads were connected to each other between some cities. However, in order to get from one
city to another, the passengers had to transfer train multiple times. In addition, only at places like
Bowling Green, Kentucky, were the railroads connected to one another. Soon following the

  • 3. Auster Narrative Style American writer and director Paul Auster uses different literary devices and narrative styles to create a new form of crime fiction, that links the traditional genre characteristics with experimental metafiction and postmodern irony. In the New York Trilogy novels published sequentially as City of Glass (1985), Ghosts (1986) and The Locked Room (1986), Auster uses a number of different narrative styles including pastiche, parody and intertextuality to mix postmodernism with crime fiction. Previously, the most important aspect in a detective story according to Encyclopedia Britannica has been: solving the crime and answering the whodunit question ( Detective Story ). For that reason, most literature on criminal fiction has focused ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to literary criticist William G. Little: While the goal of detection is to uncover the whole story, in Auster s work, nothing, especially not nothing, is grasped in its all. No case is closed...his calculations and representations lead to no final illumination, no climatic discovery. (p. 133). It is clear, that the postmodern detective fiction has a different purpose than just answering all the questions and restore order. At the beginning of City of Glass the narrator describes that detective Quinn s knowledge regarding crime in general, is very average: Like most people, Quinn knew almost nothing about crime. He had never murdered anyone, had never stolen anything, and he did not know anyone who had. He had never been inside a police station, had never met a private detective, had never spoken to a criminal. Whatever he knew about these things, he had learned from books, films, and newspapers. (p. 7). Therefore, Quinn as the writer of crime novels does not have any actual information about real crime and his stories are not real, but the kind that parodies the genre on which he lacks experience. On the use of parody M. H. Abrams says: it imitates the serious manner and characteristic features of a particular literary work, or the distinctive style of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Environmental Sustainability And Its Impact On Canadians... Nearly fourteen years ago, the Calgary based oil enterprise Enbridge announced its most controversial project yet; to build a $6.5 billion oil duct from Bruderheim, Alberta to Kitimat, British Columbia (Canadian Press, 2013, para. 1). It was to be named the Northern Gateway Pipeline .Enbridge s preliminary announcement on the sixth of March, 2002, not only divided the province of British Columbia on whether environmental or economic prosperity was more important, but the country of Canada as a whole. Although the name Northern Gateway is well known in many Western Canadian households, few truly know the details of what this project entails. Many environmentalists and economists (Mortillara, Nicole, Global News, 2014) debate the benefits and the negative impacts that this pipeline will have on Canadians and Canadian society. Others, though, are trying to understand what steps are being taken to ensure environmental sustainability during construction, and for the many years after its projected completion. This multi billion dollar project has many vocal opposers, and a seemingly equal amount of environmental risks that accompanies it, all adding up to the general consensus that this duct is not worth the economic benefits that it would produce. Enbridge estimates that 99% of the crude oil from Alberta is transported to the United States. Currently though, America s demand for imported oil is decreasing (AsiaPacific.ca/Canadian Oil), as oil exploitation in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Ethan King Persuasive Speech Society generalizes first world teenagers, describing them as trapped inside a bubble, shielded from harsh realities of impoverished nations and living with the delusions that their problems dominate all others. While this stereotype does not hold true for all young adults, the unfortunate truth remains: many do not count their blessings. Recently with our soccer team, we had the opportunity to visit Vista Maria, a home and school in Dearborn for girls ages 11 to 17 coming from abusive domestic environments, including sex trafficking and family deficiencies. Interacting with the bright and beautiful girls felt incredible and encouraged us and the team to truly understand how fortunate we live. This trip inspired us to plan on visiting Vista ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the young age of ten years old, Ethan traveled to Northern Mozambique with his father to rehabilitate water wells. He began kicking his shiny, high quality soccer ball with children in the community and noticed their makeshift balls, created from plastic bags and twine (Couch). Ethan recalls, When I left [Mozambique], I gave away the soccer ball, and the kids went wild, starting cheering. It was crazy (Couch). Ethan s generous spirit urged him to give away the ball, a simple act that changed his life completely. The priceless smiles and shouts, filling the air with hope, resonated in his head. During the return flight to the United States, he decided to begin recreating the moment for more kids around the globe by sending out soccer balls, an idea he named Charity Ball in 2010 (Singer). Ethan resides in Grand Rapids, Michigan, as a 17 year old who still loves soccer. He plays on a club team called Midwest United and the Region II team in part of the Olympic Development program ( Charity Ball ). Gaining support proved difficult in the early stages of Charity Ball. Multiple rejected phone calls left Ethan unsure about his vision, but he refused to give up. Eventually major athletic brands began positively responding, including Franklin, Rawlings, and Wilson which fueled the process (Couch). • 6. Jacksonian Democrats Essay Jacksonian Democrats viewed themselves as the guardians of the United States Constitution, political democracy, individual liberty, and equality of economic opportunity. In light of the following documents and your knowledge of the 1820 s and the 1830 s, to what extent do you agree with the Jacksonian s view of themselves. Unlike previous presidents, Andrew Jackson represented the common men. He and his followers did not support the aristocrats, but instead favored the interests of farmers and urban workers. When they gained power, the Jacksonian Democrats brought about great advances in creating a more democratic and economically equal society. Jacksonian Democrats believed that any American was capable of holding government office. Jackson also said that if a man were to hold office for a lengthy period of time, he would be capable of tolerating conduct from which an unpracticed man would revolt . Along with rotation, the Jacksonian Democrats reestablished the spoils system. Jackson fired any previous office holder who was not a loyal Democrat. He would then appoint a Democrat to that position. The spoils system and rotation were advances toward greater political democracy, because they showed that one man is just as good as another is. In addition to creating a more democratic country, Jackson also tried to establish equal economic opportunity for the people of America. The best example of this is the vetoing of the charter of the Bank of the United States. The bank was a huge monopoly. It was ran by aristocrats, most of which were from England. Nicholas Biddle, who was the president of the bank, often used funds from the bank to lend money to the members of Congress, thus wining their support. In his veto message, Jackson wrote, It is to be regretted that rich and powerful too often bend the acts of government to their selfish purposes. This was true, since the bank was used to provide for the interests of the rich and not the common men such as the small farmers and urban workers. The attempt to create ... The youngest of three children, both more than six years older than her, she had a tremendous amount of freedom (Molina). She lived through the turbulent 1960 s noticing how new circumstances caused by the Vietnam war influenced the behavior of those around her and how these changes developed as time passed. This close observation of what people went through and how it shaped them had a large influence on what would become her creative basis not only for fabricating the costume design for productions, but also for directing many theatrical, film, and opera works. After producing her first theatrical work at age seven in her backyard, Taymor began to go to the Boston Children s Theatre where she studied acting. • 10. Light Dbq Thomas Edison took part in the early 1700 s debate on whether or not light was a wave or a particle. He argued that light was a particle and not a wave. This debate divided the scientific community because of the implications it had on how we view the world around us as well as what makes it up. One of the arguments that light was a particle and not a wave was that the lines that shadows made were extremely sharp. He argued that if light really was a wave, the edges of shadows would pulsate or oscillate due to a wave s property of and having crests and troughs. Since he saw no oscillation throughout his experiments he believed that light could only be a particle. This theory was supported by lights rectilinear propagation. A simple experiment ... • 12. Long Distance Running Is Not A Sport For Wimps Personal Observation #5 Long distance running is not a sport for wimps. Distance runners seem to have a pretty strong connection with each other because of all suffering and pain that goes into pushing their bodies to the limit. This is evident in the waves (or nods because one is out of breath) exchanged between complete strangers that meet while out for a run. Cross country teams are even more cohesive. With all the time spent together at practice, team members have a solid bond that lasts long outside of running and practice. One the first day of track, the new freshman who were not in cross country are a little lost. The distance runners have their little group, the sprinters have their group, and the throwers have a group as well. The groups intermingle somewhat, but it is fairly easy to tell who belongs in which group. You also associate people with what track group they belong to. The track team is a group, and each discipline is a subgroup. Even though I would not say that the subgroups are (probably) prejudiced against each other, interaction does need to be improved. This can be done by implementing the things to reduce prejudice like contact, common goal, friendly/informal setting, and interaction with multiple out group members. When I was in high school, we formed small groups within the track team made up of about six people from all grades and disciplines. In college track, we also have small groups of about seven people that we do devotions with each week ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mental illness is characterized by disturbances in a person s thoughts, emotions, or behavior. However there is no universally accepted definition. In general, the definition of mental illness depends on a society s norms, or rules of behavior. According to Encarta Online Encyclopedia, Behaviors that violate these norms are considered signs of deviance or, in some cases, of mental illness. For the first time, she is able to see herself as an independent person, not as her husband s possession or object of gratification of her culture. Later, feelings of frustration and anger emerge as a result of the discrepancies between her desires and her obligations: I can see a strange, provoking, formless sort of figure (Gilman 9). The narrator proceeds to acknowledge her entrapment: the faint figure behind seemed to shake the pattern, just as if she wanted to get out (Gilman 14). The climax comes when the narrator visualizes the figure as a woman who finally rebels: The front pattern does move and no wonder! The woman behind shakes it (Gilman 20). At this point she is fully aware of the effect, pattern is having on the woman, and on herself. The trapped woman is being strangled because of her defiance ; she is being trapped and strangled by society s conventions for work, words, roles and behavior. It is only after this process of self recognition and acknowledgement that the narrator will be able to take a step forward towards her liberation. Camus words came to me as I stepped out the airplane and into the sky. It was on an unplanned July day that my two best friends, Fiona and Matthew had decided to take me skydiving for the first time. As I stepped onto the plane, Fiona gave me a smile. I was then left to myself. I felt droplets of sweat drip down the side of my face, but I disregarded it, in hopes that it was due to the density of the suit, unsuited for a hot summer day such as this. When I walked to my seat and tried to settle myself, however, I realized the main problem wasn t the suit. Soon, the engine roared, giving life to the airplane, and the ground started fleeing. From the side windows I could see the outside landscape moving faster and faster, and finally, disappearing. There are factors which can influence the severity of the hazard and cause differences in them and can be classified into different categories, such as physical, economic, political and social. Another physical factor is snow; if a volcano is snow capped, like Eyjafjallajokull, then the lahars and flash floods become a greater hazard. The flooding in Iceland in 2010 caused 700 people to be evacuated. Without the snow then lahars and floods may not be a problem at all. The location of the volcano is also important. If it is situated on a constructive plate boundary then it is generally less explosive, and therefore poses different threats to volcanoes situated on a destructive plate boundary. The volcano may also be situated on a hotspot like in Hawaii, where the eruptions aren t very explosive. Volcanos which aren t explosive can pose other threats to lava flows though, such as dangerous gases being released. Like in Lake Nyos, Cameroon where 1700 people died. Wind direction could also cause difference in the hazards, like during the Eyjafjallajokull eruption of 2010. If the wind was blowing in a different direction then the ash cloud wouldn t have been distributed across the Atlantic and Europe, meaning that there would have been a lot less air travel disruption. Then the ash cloud wouldn t have been a hazard as it wouldn t pose a threat to anyone. Ultimately physical factors determine which hazards are posed by the volcano and how intensive and threatening they are to human life. It has no ties to medieval or even pre ‐Christian religious beliefs. Wicca was inspired by a theory of Margaret Murray, who proposed that there was one organized Cult of Diana. This idea is largely dismissed as inaccurate and Murray s work is considered by scholars to be full of factual errors. Where Wicca began, is with Gerald Gardner in the early 1950 s. Gardner was stationed in India for several years and while he was there, he studied the Hindu religion. He also had an interest in magick and the occult . Once he returned to England and retired, he was initiated into a coven of witches in 1939. This coven was practicing magick and rituals from fragments of undetermined origin. Gardner took these fragments and fleshed them out, adding and changing them until he had something that was workable and more spiritually fulfilling than just the fragments. His work was heavily influenced by Murray s work as well as Leland s Aradia: Gospel of the Witches and his studies into high ceremonial magick, Hinduism, and the work of Alastair Crowley. Crowley s work features fairly prominently in Gardner s work and there is debate about whether or not Gardner hired Crowley, just conversed with him, or possibly stole his work to use.
