Chaldean Culture
Sunday nights were reserved for extended family dinners at my grandparent s house. Loud music,
different food and strange dancing were commonplace at these large gatherings. We were Chaldean a
small Catholic minority originating from northern Iraq with ties to ancient Mesopotamia. The dinners
provided me with a gateway, bridging my everyday experience with my ancestral culture. On
Mondays, I would return to school with leftover dolma or beef kafta, which established an immediate
rapport with other Chaldean students and helped to form the basis of many long term friendships.
Years later, once I had graduated to the adult table at our Sunday dinners, I noticed a predictable trend.
Sometime after the plates had been cleared, but before the baklava and coffee were served, the family
conversation would shift to a discussion about the Iraq War, eventually giving way to passionate and
lively debates. My relatives would discuss the progress of the American invasion, important political
actors and the policy implications of certain U.S. actions. The nuanced discussion about tenuous
situations and the fervor with which my family spoke ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With many devoutly religious and many business owners (approximately 61% of Chaldean
households), many campaigned for Donald Trump, who they saw as the toughest on Islamist
extremism. Recently though, ICE agents, working under presidential directives, began deporting
Chaldeans who have been here for decades. Not only is the community concerned about breaking up
families, but for many Chaldeans, deportation comes with the risk of religious persecution from
members of ISIS or its sympathizers.
I bring with me many experiences I have gained from my community. Experiences that have shaped
my associations, interest in politics and desire to attend law school. I hope that by pursuing a legal
education I can become an effective positive force for my Chaldean

Kroger Competitive Advantage
This paper will discuss the kroger company s strategy and competitive advantage. It will also discuss
competition and strategy from rival company Walmart. Research will show whether Kroger uses an
offensive or defensive strategic approach to business practices. It will discuss mergers and acquisitions
of The Kroger Company (Bethel University, 2017).
Strategy
The Kroger Company uses the broad differentiation strategy. They have business in at least eight
different market segments. They operate two thousand, two hundred and fifty five stores across
America and operate under twenty four banners. Their market position ranks among the highest in the
nation. They also have a strong bargaining power because of their many endeavors into different
market areas. Kroger supermarkets have been in business for one hundred thirty four years and have
made a substantial contribution to the business world (Annual report, 2017). The Kroger Company
owns and operates most of its banner companies. They have convenience stores, fuel centers,
pharmacies, fine jewelry, apparel, grocery stores, manufacturing sites, clinics, and financial services.
According to Bethel University, (2017) this is called the broad differentiation strategy. They have
several services to offer the public, and are always trying to stay ahead of the competition.

three generic business strategies and they are,

Hillary Clinton Dishonest Analysis
One source used to evaluate Hillary Clinton comes from an article titled Hillary Clinton emails what s
it all about? by Anthony Zurcher, a North American reporter. It is published by BBC News and the
purpose of the publication was to inform people about the issue with Clinton s emails. The
information in this source comes from quotes from Clinton herself, reports from The State
Department, and FBI directors from an investigation. It is valid information because it is supported by
evidence from a variety of places and it is also very well researched as seen by the amount of detail in
the article. Zurcher is an active reporter who covers US politics and writes about current happenings in
the world. The content on this website is a secondary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The source was published to present an opinion on a political issue and the author s intention is to
address Trump s tax returns in a negative manner. It is written from a first person perspective and

made by Trump himself that are analyzed and interpreted, making it a secondary source. Eichenwald
is an American journalist who is a senior writer for Newsweek and he has also worked for The New
York Times. This shows that he is knowledgeable in his work, but he still did not use a lot of research
or evidence to back up his opinions in this article. The source was published on September 6th, 2016
which demonstrates that it is current. In this article, the main points are addressed clearly in a logical
manner and it is easy to read. However, the author was a little repetitive mainly to create a strong

Positive And Negative Effects Of Technological Change
Technological change is an increase in the efficiency of a process (usually done by a machine) which
results in more output, but without input having been increased (Winston, n.d). A specific level of
technological advancement is necessary for productivity and growth in the economy of a country. The
absence of proper technological change retards the economic growth and technological change has
impacted the world by creating new products and processes, increasing efficiency and lowering costs,
and helping economies evolve. Structural unemployment is the situation when the jobs are available
and workers are willing work, but they don t have the required job skills to qualify for the vacant
positions or just simply the mismatch between the jobs available and the skill levels of the
unemployed. Technological change may make some skills obsolete or require new ones. For example,
the introduction of personal computers since the 1980s, has lowered demand for typists who lacked
computer skills (Rittenberg Tregarthen. 2012, p 216). Technological changes have negative effects on
employment. It negatively affects the value the value of workers and automated processes and other
technology have become more important to the process of increasing output. Workers are less
expensive to replace than machines therefore they have become less valuable as a result of
technological change. Government s economic policies have an influence on technology development
and adoption because it helps

Plot Summary of Remember the Titans Essays
Remember the Titans is a film from 2000 displaying a true story of a racially divided football team
from the 1970s. The movie highlights the relationships of the black and white people, and how they
learned to interact with each other in a time when this was not the way of life. It brings up a number of
questions throughout, of what is right and what is wrong, and really challenges the characters, making
it a very interesting movie to watch. I have seen this movie many times, and each time I feel like I get
something new out of it. It is a movie that can be used as a teaching tool, it does a great job of
interpreting not only what was happening in the United States of America at that time, but social
psychology concepts through real life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The text explains that, They may label each other as enemies, view their own group as morally
superior, draw the boundaries between themselves and their opponents more firmly, and, under
extreme conditions, may come to see the opposing group as not even human (Baron Branscombe,
2012). I would not say that the characters in the movie took this idea as far as the text explains, but
there were many examples of this happening. The first example would be between the coaches. Coach
Boone was given Coach Yoast s coaching position, and offers him an assistant position for the team.
Coach Yoast accepts the position, only for his players, but ensuring that his old assistant gets a job as
well. Now that the teams have integrated, there really is not enough room for all the coaches, and it
seems like each group is looking out for their own. Coach Boone also has his assistant working with
him, so now this makes four different coaches for T.C. William s football team. With all of this
happening the two white coaches and the two black coaches are not 100% getting along. They do not
agree with one another s ideas and have clear prejudices about one another, displaying the realistic
conflict theory. They all want to be doing the same thing but there were not enough spots, so they
think negatively of each other and often butt heads. This same idea moves onto the players. Each
player, black and white, had their spot on their old team where they were

The Lng Market Overview
The first chapter of this thesis will be exclusively devoted to the identification and evolution of the
market aspects which affect the volume of LNG imported and exported and consequently the volume
of LNG chartered on vessels under long term agreements and short term or spot market. The LNG
market overview will help the reader to fully understand the current market situation of LNG but will
also set the background of making more accessible the LNG chartering routine which currently
transits from long term to short term contracts. Moreover, there will be explained the boosting factors
which contribute to the augmentation of the LNG spot market, but also the impeding factors which
lead to the stagnation of this market. The main purpose of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the following graph issued by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA hereinafter), there
is presented the World Energy Consumption by Fuel, measured in Quadrillion British Thermal Units.
Figure 2.1: World Energy Consumption by Fuel, U.S. Energy Information Administration.
As it can be observed by Figure 2.1, between the years 1990 and 2015 the demand for natural gas rise
at 2.2% annually, overlapping the corresponding rise of oil (1.3%) and coal (1.8%). Additionally, as
Total stated in its 2012 annual report, the demand for natural gas raised 3% every year during the last
30 years.
In terms of LNG, as Total found out in the same report, the rising of LNG demand reached the
percentage of 8% per annum boosting the augmentation of the natural gas demand. Moreover, as the
International Gas Union (IGU hereinafter) found out in its 2014 report, although the trade of LNG was
decreased by 1.6% in 2012, following a thirty year rising route, it sums a 10% of the worldwide
natural gas consumption.
2.2.2. LNG Supply Overview The term supply in the LNG market, is used to describe the quantity
produced by liquefaction plants. The supply sector is served by the LNG chartering sector which day
by day becomes all the more competitive leading to the maturing of the supply sector. The LNG
supply sector will fully mature when the LNGC order rate falls to normal levels. The LNG fleet

Informative Essay On John Deere Tractors
I m going to be telling about how people found out about John Deere Tractors.
Everyone that has a yard to mow or ever drove past a farm knows what a John Deere tractor looks
like. You don t have to be a farmer to recognize the green tractor with the yellow lettering as a John
Deere. These tractors are so well built and designed that television commercials say Nothing runs like
a Deere . However, few of us may know the life story behind the man John Deere who invented the
design of the simple farm plow and in doing so started a company that would create farm products
used and recognized throughout the globe.
I m going to be telling how John Deere Lived.
John Deere was born on February 4, 1804 in Vermont. His parents William and Sarah Deere. They
were tailors that had immigrated to Vermont from England. Life was hard for the Deere family when
their blacksmith business slowed in 1808. John s dad took a trip back to his home country in hopes of
finding a better life for his family. Unfortunately, Mr. Deere did not return from England and no one
ever found out what happened to him. John was only four years old . As a young boy, John spent a lot
of time outside a blacksmith shop in his hometown dreaming that he would one day become a
blacksmith. At the age ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

experiment with other farm tools such as the steam plow, cultivators, planters, and a grain drill. (Just
like his re designed steel plow these additional tools became important to farmers.) On each of the
tools, the name John Deere stood out boldly. Through hard work and imagination, the company being

ABSTRACT
Ben Bernanke was a key player in U.S. economic policy well before the Great Recession, and during
that time seems to have achieved almost mythical status. The prolonged economic crisis has kept him
front and center in the news, with regular appearances on Capitol Hill and increasingly heated rhetoric
from detractors. As Federal Reserve chairman, Bernanke maintains as he attempts to steer the nation
onto a steadier economic course. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke is, by all accounts, a man
of formidable intelligence. He scored 1590 on his SATs, taught himself calculus in high school, and

During the Great Depression, it should be remembered, the unemployment rate in the US peaked at
around 22%, and it averaged a staggering 16% in the 1930s. In the lesser depression that the US
economy is emerging from now, thanks to the radical and fearless monetary policy settings delivered
by Bernanke, the unemployment rate peaked at 10% and since the market and economy crash started
in 2008, the unemployment rate had averaged around 8%. On these facts alone, Bernanke should
deserve unquestioned praise.
Bernanke s comment that the Fed would maintain highly accommodative monetary policy for the
foreseeable future sparked the mood swing on Wall Street. As noted on above, this is appropriate, but
what the market may be missing is what highly accommodative policy actually means, at least to the
Federal Reserve. It is not unreasonable to think that holding interest rates near zero for the next couple
of years is accommodative . It most certainly is. Maintaining bond purchases is also obviously
accommodative policy, but there could be a subtlety in Bernanke s likely approach. If in coming
months interest rates are held at zero (which is as certain as anyone can be on any policy setting), yet
the Fed starts to scale back its $85 billion bond purchases a month to $75 billion, then $50 billion and
so on, there is still no question that policy is still accommodative, but a little less than it was before.
This may be well understood in the bond market, where

Critical Analysis Of The Hoods
No tickets, for we are lost , whispers the hoodlum youth as they ride the suburban train to the outskirts
of Brisbane. This opening quote from the play Hoods signifies the attitude of teenagers whom wait at
train stations, seen to be unseen and called the nobody s of society. The two Hood members played by
Jodie Le Vescont and Christopher Somers narrate the story Hoods written by Angelia Betzien, directed
by Leticia Caceres and composed by Pete Goodwin and afforded the ability to fast forward, rewind
and pause time. It is an impressive theatre play, of three young siblings Kyle, Jessie and Troy waiting
in a car abandoned by their mother, who frantically had to abscond after the abuse she obtained from
her husband. The current issue of domestic violence is skillfully handled in this Epic theatre style play
Hoods ,
The proportional use of Character, narration and episodic structure to modernise the contemporary
play Hoods generates s a production abounding with challenging dramatic action and significance.
Primarily via the two Hood narrators, this performance effectively contests the viewers to examine
their own soul against others surviving in hardship and confront this cruelty with thoughtful
consideration.
Throughout the play two actors role played multiple characters. Each actor morphed into another
character. They had impressive versatility of their characters and played each role with emotion. The
facial expressions they exercised appeared to contribute to the

Italian Baroque And The Protestant Baroque Styles
The Baroque era spans a period of 150 years. During this time, baroque art had four distinct styles. I
plan to focus on the Italian Baroque and the Protestant Baroque styles. While these styles share some
similarities, they are also very different. The Italian Baroque style is often ornate and focused on
religion with an emphasis on the need for the church s guidance. The Protestant Baroque style is plain
with no obvious religious messages and less need for guidance from the church. Both styles contain
many amazing pieces of artwork, but I plan to focus on Bernini s Baldacchino and Vermeer s Woman
Holding a Balance.
The Italian Baroque style of art was established by the Catholic Church to bring individuals focus
back to the church. This is also known as Counter Reformation. The artwork was often very elaborate,
large in scale, showed movement and contained religious objects that glorified the Catholic Church
(Armstrong). Another trademark of this time was the ability of the artwork to evoke emotions
(Hollander). It was their attempt to show people they must lean on the church to be successful. If there
is one piece of art that displays all of these characteristics perfectly, it is the Baldacchino by Bernini.
This is a magnificent piece that one could stare at for hours and probably not take in all of the details.
The scale of the Baldacchino is enormous. The Baldacchino is located in St. Peter s Basilica and made
of bronze and stands ninety three feet high

Murder Mystery Persuasive Essay
Getting revenge on a person for something they did previously because feeling as though they did not
get proper repercussions is often a recurring reason someone uses to try to justify actions they do. In
Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie, Samuel Ratchett, whose name is actually Cassetti,
is murdered in the middle of the night by twelve fellow passengers because of a particular kidnapping
he does years earlier, Daisy Armstrong. Hercule Poirot sets out to find out who kills Ratchett. He
originally suspects that it is just one person, but soon figures out that twelve people were apart of the
vicious attack. Vengeance is described as Punishment inflicted or retribution exacted for an injury or
wrong , while justice is described ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the murderers begin warning Ratchett of his approaching death with ominous letters.
The group constantly sends threatening letters, and notes about the Armstrong case to Ratchett that
eventually starts to make him seem paranoid and crazy. People around him just believe he is losing his
mind, so they ignore him until he is actually dead. Furthermore, the assassins attempt to mislead the
detectives when they purposely leave belongings of the murderer in Ratchett s room to make it seem
as though they are trying to incriminate that person. Colonel Arbuthnot is the only person on the train
who admits to smoking using a pipe, so the pipe cleaner found in Ratchett s room makes it seem as
though someone is trying to frame him. This makes the detectives feel as though Colonel is innocent,
which is another example of the processed thinking the murderers do. Finally, Ratchett is stabbed
twelve time, which is both a metaphor, and part of the revenge. The group feels as though proper
justice is not served in the Armstrong, so they stab Ratchett twelve time symbolizing twelve jury
members, as well as a stab for each other as revenge. Poirot realizes the connection when he says, And
then, Messieurs, I saw light. They were all in it. . . . A jury is composed of twelve people there were
twelve passengers Ratchett was stabbed twelve times (306). The metaphor and emotion behind the
stabbing makes it clear that the murder of Ratchett is an act of pure vengeance. In conclusion, the
most meticulous manner the murder is conducted is the manner in which the murder is

David B. Truman Lobby Groups Essay
Lobby Groups
In this comparison between David B. Truman and V.O. Key, Jr. s views on lobby groups they have
different interpretations on role and interaction of these groups in government. In a democratic system
there is bound to be resentment and desire for change because it is impossible to satisfy everybody.
Truman and Key describe how those individuals try to be recognized while forming groups for
strength in numbers . In the comparison of interest and pressure groups it is apparent that although
they created resentment in the inner layers of government, they were necessary to the development
and progress of the political system.
According to David B. Truman in the excerpt from The Governmental Process he demonstrates ...

Truman states that the National Government and the State Legislatures take notice when the interest
groups consolidate and tend to accept compromises over common goals. When they are verified of an
increasing amount of support for a particular policy or deceit against it, they usually take action. In
this manner, the interest groups are beneficial to the government because their opinions were created
by an individual and therefore they give the government a greater ability to facilitate the lifestyle of
their citizens. The interest groups can be very misleading in their size because of their pressure to
convert and convince impressionable people. Truman believes that the formation of interest groups
and political parties was inevitable because we offered elections as a means of representation and also
in a large, complex, diverse society there will always be people who are longing for change.
From this section of Truman s work it shows that lobby groups were helpful in modifying the National
Government to perform at a more responsive level. The Government could not have survived based
solely on the impact of interest groups. They survived and thrived for power in a symbiotic
relationship benefiting both groups.
Even if the political parties are added to the list, the result could properly be designated as a view
which seems hardly compatible with the relative stability of

Informal Expressions For The Homelessness
Informal Expressions
Range: There are a multitude of ways that actions are taken outside of the government and other
formal systems. Those being the hundreds of advocacy groups, charities, and nonprofit organizations
across the country. People are always holding fundraisers for organizations dedicated to helping this
population and to collect products and clothes for the homeless. These organizations collect anything
from everyday clothes, to hygiene products like menstrual pads and toothpaste, to medical items like
Neosporin and Band Aids. Some individual actions that are taken are to donate these necessary items
to organizations or give them directly to the homeless population. People can also volunteer their time
providing food by working at a homeless shelter, food bank, or soup kitchen. Others, may work at
transitional services that help train homeless people to work certain jobs, pay their bills, or acquire
skills such as gardening. Alternately, people may feel passionate about educating others about
homelessness and the stereotypes and stigma that surround these individuals, especially those who
also have mental health issues.
Since mental health services are difficult for most of the homeless population to access, many groups
and individuals use political activism to encourage access to these services. Local mental health

ongoing debate whether video games cause an increase in violence in crimes. Video games do not
increase violence. Video games affects the lives of the players positively, and help children learn how
to deal with violence. Video games have a positive effect on the lives of people who play them. Cheryl
K. Olson, a public health consultant and media researcher, states in the Review of General

Games help to reduce a player s aggression, stress, and frustration from a bad day by channeling their
anger into a virtual world instead of reality. According to a study in 2013, organized by Brad J.

and used the last of his strength but it was not enough to pull himself out of the stream. He flew over
the water fall and passed out. He had no idea how long he was out but when he woke up it was
daytime and he was on dry land. It looked as if someone or something had dragged him out of the
water. Then he realized that he was in a completely different world than before. There were little
fairies flying around his head. He wondered where he was for a while just laying there. Then he
realized he must be dreaming. In a little while he would wake up in his own bed, but if he was
dreaming then why did he hurt so much. Some of the little fairies had grouped around his head.
He tried to wave them away and one of them bit him. A searing pain went all the way through his left
arm from his finger tips to his shoulder. He decided it was definitely not a dream. The fairies helped
him up and told him to go and defeat the beast. He asked them what beast but they would not tell him.
He left fearing if he stayed too long they would bite him again. His left arm was already half
paralyzed and swelling up. He got out of the meadow and was standing up agenst a tree looking at the
bite. Then an arrow went into the tree right above

Descriptive Essay On A Day In My House
The snow seemed like it will never stop. At my house, that sits upon the top of a mountain, we had
over three feet of snow. It was three days before Christmas and the sun was just rising over the snow
covered mountain range, the morning sky was grey with a splash of pastel pink and a warm yellow.
With the smell of black coffee, I woke up in my sister s room. The sunshine was beginning to peak
into the small yellow room, my sister, Allison, was still sleeping with shallow breaths. I carefully
swing my legs out of her bed, the frame made a quick, high pitch creak as I stand up. As I tiptoe
towards the door, the sound of bacon hitting the hot skillet makes my stomach growl. I quietly close
the bedroom door behind me. I descend down the steps, awaiting me is a zealous black dachshund.
She shakes her body happily and runs towards the door, her nails clicking on the wood floor along the
way. I try to open the frosting glass door, but the compacted snow was hindering the glass. With a
burst of strength, the door opens and the cold and angry air slaps my face. Hopping out the front door,
my dachshund lands in a pile of snow and pushes the snow in the house. I close the door quickly, to
see my grandmother sitting at the old wooden kitchen table. She smiles as my mother walks in. My
mom comes over with a bright yellow box of pancake mix in her hand and kisses the top of my head.
She sets the yellow box down to check on the sizzling bacon, and I walk over to my content
grandmother.

Gang violence in America is a plague which ends the lives of thousands of youth. The two most
notorious gangs, mostly located near Los Angeles, California, are are the Bloods and the Crips. Many
things will be covered concerning these specific gangs to understand the basics of these two rival
gangs, one must understand how they gain members, what actions they take to mark their territory,
and what symbols they use to identify themselves.
The history of the Bloods starts in Rikers Island Prison. Omar Original Gangster (OG) Mack Portee

The Importance Of College Writing
I learned the slang phrase One and done in the NBA (National Basketball Association) Draft this
summer. For non basketball fans, it simply means that aspiring basketball players will try to get
themselves drafted in the NBA after completing only one year in college. During the NBA draft night,
the player may or may not get drafted depending on if their skills are viewed by the managers and
coaches enough to play in the professional level. Throughout my college writing experience, I have
been a One and done kind of writer. In this case, it means turning in the first drafts of the papers I
write without major revision, something that I regret not doing. Not only because of the not so great
feedbacks and grades that I got but also because I knew that I could have done better but for some
reasons I decided not to.
According to The Writing Process by Michael E. Adelstein, Once you understand why you seem to be
naturally adverse to revision, you may overcome your resistance. (18) In order to overcome my refusal
to revision when it comes to my writing process, I provided the analyses of the different reasons why I
turned into a One and done writer in the next few paragraphs. Analyzing these reasons would help me
not only to include revision as part of my own writing process but to also maybe learn how to make it
enjoyable.
Coming up with the first draft of a paper is a long process itself that is why doing the revision feels
like a tedious process. As someone who does not

The Paternity Of Maternity Leave Essay
Lately, both mothers and fathers have been requesting more time off of work after their baby has been
born to bond and spend more time with them. Most business work places have not accepted their
request and have made the desired parent of that child to come back to work as quickly as possible,
even if that time spent with their baby is more important. Paternity/Maternity leave is important and
has a tremendous amount of impact on that child and how they will act in the future, which is why that
time after birth should be extended to a set amount of time of one year. Paternity leave is the time that
a father is allowed to be away from work after the birth of his child(Paternity Leave 1). Maternity
leave is the time when a mother is allowed to be away from work after the birth of her child. Both are
equally as important. According to Gretchen Livingston, a researcher at a University, the U.S. is the
only country among 41 nations that does not mandate any paid leave for new parents(Livingston 1).
The United States, not having an exact set time, but the average amount of weeks given to the mother
or father after their baby s birth to spend time with them is 12 weeks, which is also unpaid. Businesses
need to extend the time they give to mothers and fathers after their baby is born. One of the many
problems that comes with the average of 12 weeks of not having enough time to spend with your baby
after birth is that baby then becomes unattached to everyone and often feels

How Did Tennessee Williams Use Spectacles In The Glass...
When making unrealistic things come to life, it is not the main ideas that make it happen, but the small
details. Tennessee Williams, the author of The Glass Menagerie, does a very well job with giving
spectacles meaning. He uses the picture of the father in their living room to show how different life
would be like without a father figure. Laura s leg brace establishes the fact that being different was not
common. He also demonstrated how smoking was very common for men in that given time period.
The use of spectacles in The Glass Menagerie gives it a real effect. First, the father of Tom and Laura

Kashmir Conflict Between Pakistan and India
KASHMIR CONFLICT BETWEEN PAKISTAN AND INDIA
The State of Jammu and Kashmir is situated between Pakistan and India. Among the key reasons for
tension between Pakistan and India is the key problem of Kashmir. Whereas Pakistan has repeatedly
termed this the core issue in its relationship with India, India has maintained that this matter was
settled with Kashmir s accession to India in October 1947. As far as India has been concerned,
therefore, the only issue for discussion has been what India regards as Pakistan s continuing illegal
occupation of part of Jammu and Kashmir, an occupation that began in 1947–48, during the war
between the two. About 63 per cent of the territory is under Indian occupation; while the rest, 37 per
cent, is with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the above mentioned facts, neither Pakistan nor India wants to lose Kashmir. In 1947, India
and Pakistan went to war over Kashmir. During the war, it was India which first took the Kashmir
dispute to the United Nations on 1 January 1948 The following year, on 1 January 1949, the UN
helped enforce ceasefire between the two countries. The ceasefire line is called the Line of Control. It
was an outcome of a mutual agreement between India and Pakistan that the UN Security Council
(UNSC) and UN Commission for India and Pakistan (UNCIP) passed several resolutions in years
following the 1947 48 war. The UNSC Resolution of 21 April 1948 one of the principal UN
resolutions on Kashmir stated that both India and Pakistan desire that the question of the accession of
Jammu and Kashmir to India or Pakistan should be decided through the democratic method of a free
and impartial plebiscite .
India s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru made a pledge to resolve the Kashmir dispute in
accordance with the UN resolutions. The sole criteria to settle the issue, he said, would be the wishes
of the Kashmir people . A pledge that Prime Minister Nehru started violating soon after the UN
resolutions was passed. In 1965, India and Pakistan once again went to war over Kashmir. A cease fire
was established in September 1965. Indian Prime Minister Lal Bhadur Shastri and Pakistani president
Ayub Khan signed the Tashkent Declaration on 1 January

normalized in our current society are almost indistinguishable. Atwood uses each character carefully
to display the set of theme of rebellion within the writing, really giving the reader a taste of what the
environment is like by explaining detailed interactions, and consequences as well as their role in
society. Moira is first introduced as one of the most influential, rebellious characters, almost instantly

Still, Offred tries to persuade Moira to follow the rules instituted by Gilead for her own benefit more

rebellious. Knowing the Handmaids are not allowed to discuss each other, Offred pursues to ask Aunt
Lydia if she knows where Moira is. Through this action does Offred also start to look into the
rebellious attitudes of her mother. Offred recalls an outfit she wore, similar to Unwomen, (before

The Heart Of Cardiac Muscle Essay
INTRODUCTION The cardiac muscle, more commonly known as the heart muscle, is quite different
from the more familiar know skeletal muscle. Unlike skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle is able to
conduct its own electrical impulses allowing it to contract and relax spontaneously without being told
to by the brain or any other organ (Marieb, Mitchell, p. 512). This is due to the constant leakage of
sodium ions into the mainly potassium filled cells which then eventually lead to action potentials
causing the heart to beat rhythmically (Mariev, Mitchell, p.512) this rhythm is more commonly
referred to as one s heartbeat. From this BIOPAC laboratory, the student(s) should learn how different
stimuli will affect a resting heart rate. Due to the fact that cardiac muscle is able to create action
potentials on its own, a change in chemical, temperature, and ionic balance causes the heart to react
differently and change its rhythm of beats by either slowing down or speeding up. More specifically,
by saturating the heart with histamine the heart rate should speed up, while pilocarpine will cause the
heart to substantially slow, and finally the addition of epinephrine will cause the resting heart rate to
speed up.

Theme Of Genesis 12-50
The two major themes of Genesis 12 50 are be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. These two
themes are first stated in Genesis 1:28, but recur many times throughout Genesis, especially with
Abraham, his son Isaac, and Isaac s son Jacob. One challenge Abraham faces in regards to the blessing
of progeny is his wife s, Sarah s, barrenness. This barrenness is a fact of her existence. (Brown, 309)
At first Sarah gives Abraham one of her slaves, Hagar, in order for him to have a child. (Gen. 16) This
is exploitation, but when Hagar becomes pregnant, it improves her situation from being just a slave, to
being protected because she is pregnant. (Weems) Hagar gives birth to Ishmael, Abraham s first born.
After this, God opens Sarah s womb and she is able to have a child, Isaac. (Gen. 21) Sarah then has
Ishmael and Hagar sent away because she wants Isaac to receive the full inheritance by himself. But
God promises Abraham that a nation will be made from Ishmael as well as Isaac. (Gen. 21) This
shows that God favors the oppressed, especially since he takes care of Hagar and Ishmael while they
are in the wilderness. (Tamez, 13) By sending Ishmael out into the wilderness to form a nation, it
fulfills the fill the earth promise that God made to Abraham. (Sarah Shectman, Abraham s Family ,

A second challenge is when Abraham tells Pharaoh that Sarah is his wife, which

The use of JIT will help the company increase their efficiency by cut down on wait time and
processing, all of which will translate to increased productivity and hence profitability. According to
Heizer Render (2011) employee training is vital to the success of a company, this is so true of MICI,
because of the extensive standard training and cross training of the MICI employees will translate to
increased efficiency, productivity flexibility, decreased wait time for customers and as history has
depicted, costumers satisfaction is integral to the success of a company because customers are the
major drivers in the market.
The layout strategy is another concept the book touched on, the new layout of the claims department
will allow for better workflow. It will also improve claims time, employee empowerment due to the
proximity of workers to each order and flow of work in the cell, flexibility of the various equipment
used by the company (Heizer Render, 2011).
Overall Ms.is using the fundamental principle of the JIT, work cell concept, the concept of employees
development, concept revamping and old system that is nonfunctional with the help of the of experts
and the people who actually work in the field. All of which, will hopefully increase throughput,
increase flexibility, reduce variability and give MICI a competitive advantage in the market.

The Problems of Obedience to Authority
People will do about anything to stay out of trouble when it comes to someone with authority that
cannot be argued with. Stanley Milgram did an experiment on the topic of obedience to authority; he
wanted to know how ordinary people could do horrible things if forced to by someone of authority.
Obedience to authority is instinctual for human beings, there has and will always be someone with a
higher authority than ourselves. How can normal, ordinary people that think of themselves or are
thought of as genuinely good people do things that they know is morally wrong when told to do so by
someone of authority? That is the question that Milgram asked himself when he started his
experiments.
The main point of the experiment was to test why people listen and act on what people of authority tell
them to do. Milgram took ordinary people and proved that most of the general populace is willing to
physically hurt another human being if provoked by someone in a position of authority. This causes a
person to question as Encina does, Why were those who challenged authority in the minority? So
entrenched is obedience it may void personal codes of conduct (Encina).
In the experiment Milgram picked people off of the streets and tested them on how far they would go
to hurt someone when instructed to do so by someone of authority. Respondents were told that the
experiment would

Alternative Sources Of Alternative Energy Sources
Alternative Energy Sources Air pollution, resulting from the burning of fossil fuels, amounts for about
7 million deaths each year. On average, 1 in 8 deaths are caused by some type of air pollution. Fossil
fuels are burned every day to keep the world functioning but are accompanied by tremendous amounts
of pollution. The world needs energy sources that are as effective as fossil fuels but that come with
less harmful pollutants than fossil fuels do. An effort must be made to pull away from harmful fossil
fuels and to switch over to cleaner energy sources such as solar power, wind power, and geothermal
power. Switching over to cleaner energy is very important because of the eminent threat of global
warming that lurks just around the corner. If humans are not careful, they will damage the
environment and the atmosphere to a point beyond repair. Major factories and cities can begin to
convert to cleaner energy sources and cut back on pollution tremendously. They can do this by
harnessing energy from the sun, utilizing frequent gusts of wind, and by tapping into the heat of the
Earth s core.
Fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas account for roughly 85 percent of total energy that is
used in the United States. All three of these fossil fuels release harmful gases such as carbon dioxide
and monoxide, sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, and hydrocarbons into our atmosphere. The Union of
Concerned Scientists explain how these gases are trapped in the Earth s

A Brief Note On Colorectal Cancer And Cancer
Colorectal cancer is one of the global leading diseases and it is the third most common causes of death
in both men and women in America. Approximately 1 in 12 Australians will develop colorectal cancer
in their lifetime, and according to Bowel Cancer Australia, individuals are at risk if they are aged 50
years and over, have had an inflammatory colorectal disease or significant family history of colorectal
cancer polyps.
Although there are various treatments for colorectal cancer, complications may arise. Post infection
caused by surgical damage to the mucosa of the intestine may occur. Furthermore, a previous study
indicated that although some chemotherapy regiment, such as FOLFOXIRI, can produce maximal
response in decreasing tumour size at high dosage, it can also produce side effects such as neutropenia
and diarrhoea because of the high toxicity level associated with the dosage of the drugs. As a result, it
has become a necessity for researchers to trial new methods, such as combining drug regimen with
surgery, to improve clinical outcomes from treatments in patients with colorectal cancer.
It has been raised in the media that gut microbiota in individuals can provide an indication of the
development of colorectal cancer. Hence, using it as a screening method can allow early interventions
to prevent colorectal carcinoma. Although the media mentions using gut microbiota analysis as a
preventative screening method, it raises the question: What roles can gut bacteria

The And Its Effects On The Human Body
The planaria are free living flatworms that scavenge for food and get oxygen through diffusion.
Planaria are acoelomates, which means that they do not have a body cavity or organs. They have a
solid middle part of their body made from a type of germ layer in animals. They also only have one
opening for their digestive system and have a bilaterally symmetric body plan. They have no
circulatory system and a simple nervous system with ganglia in the anterior region of the head that
acts as a brain. They have eyespots that can sense light and flaps on their heads that can sense
chemicals in the water. They like the dark and exhibit negative photo taxis if exposed to light, which
means that they will move away from the light. Planaria can reproduce asexually through transverse
fission or sexually. All planaria are hermaphrodites, which means that each animal has both male and
females reproductive parts and can fertilize itself (Castle, 1927). The regenerative abilities of the
planaria are truly remarkable. Thomas Hunt Morgan found in the late 1800s that a single planarian can
be cut into 279 pieces, and each piece would grow into a new planarian. Planaria are essentially made
up of pluripotent adult stem cells called neoblasts that closely resemble human embryonic stem cells.
These cells are not differentiated yet and can be told to do any job that might be needed of it. The
neoblasts can essentially become any type of cell that is needed; it can become a brain,

The Internet And Other Communications Technologies
Introduction
The internet and other communications technologies are promoting progress in almost every attribute
of society and all over the world. For instance, supporting trade, bettering education and health care,
fostering participating in democracy in the United States and abroad, and enabling communications
among family and friends, whether in the neighborhood or around the globe. Regrettably, may of the
qualities of this technology, low cost, ease of use, and anonymous nature, among others, make it an
appealing medium for fraudulent scams, child sexual exploitation, and increasingly, a new concern
referred as cyberstalking.
Cyber Exploitation and Laws
Cyber exploitation is the non consensual spreading and publication of intimate photos or videos. The
materials are usually stolen by ex lovers, ex spouses, associates, or total strangers through hacking,
theft of a cell phone or computer, mostly when a computer is being repaired, a false personal ad, or
other means (Fritsch et al, 2015). The stolen photos or videos are then posted on websites or sold for

Analysis Of Imperial Dreams
In Imperial Dreams directed by Malik Booth, one scene shows the main character Bambi letting his
son: Daytone riding a horse, which portrays both his son and his happiness even though they aren t in
a happy environment. This is shown through different shots and techniques such as; a medium shot
showing Daytone riding the horse; a close up on Bambi s face to show his facial expressions and
actors performance; lighting and colour ; and a long shot to show Bambi paying the man who owned
the horse, money for the horse ride. All these help to show happiness in Bambi and Daytone.
Malik Booth uses a medium shot to show happiness. Happiness is shown on Daytone s face when he
is seen riding the horse. The medium shot shows Daytone with a big grin on his face, brightening up
his whole face while sitting on top of the horse. Earlier in the film, we see Daytone playing with a toy
horse, which normally means he likes it. He also doesn t recognize Bambi which means that Day didn
t know his own father. But now Day stays with his father and having him ride an actual horse is like a
big present that is given to us on our birthday or Christmas. Which normally feels exciting and
ecstatic. For Bambi to give this gift to Daytone which symbolizes the horse, shows the audience how
much he cares for him and that he shows it through this scene.
Malik also uses a close up shot on Bambi s face to show

Omnivore s Dilemma Summary
The Omnivore s Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals, by Michael Pollan, is about one man s
journey through the food production system and how he arrives at the conclusion that although
hunting and gathering may be an excellent means to keep oneself healthy, it is really up to the
individual as to what they are willing to put in their body. Pollan begins section 1 ( Industrial Corn )
by analyzing how far the practice of shopping for groceries at the supermarket has taken modern
society from the natural environment the food is (presumably) gathered from. He cites the florescent
lighting, comparing it to the less harsh rays of the sun. From here, Pollan relates the story of a corn
farmer from Iowa, George Naylor, to expound upon the impact

Andrew Jackson Hero s Journey
The low point of the story occurs when Jackson goes to a bar and buys everyone there shots of
whiskey with the money he won from the scratch off ticket; he doesn t know the people at the bar but
says that Indians like to belong, so we all pretended to be cousins (Alexie). It is at this moment that
Jackson hits bottom and it appears that he is not going to complete his quest. He is now at the stage of
the Hero s Journey where he must survive a succession of trials (Campbell 81) and undertake for
himself the perilous journey into the darkness by descending intentionally or unintentionally, into the
crooked lanes of his own spiritual labyrinth (84). It seems almost as if Jackson cannot control himself,
is he a victim of circumstance or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The words pawn and redeem have strong connotative meanings. A definition for pawn can be a person
that is taken advantage of and manipulated; this relates to the situation of Native Americans that
Alexie writes about in his poems, novels, and short stories. Within this story, Jackson makes reference
to the relationship between white America and Native Americans like him. Redeem can mean the act
of making something that is bad good again, or the atonement for mistakes or errors made in the past.
As mentioned before, Campbell said that once the hero returns from his journey, he is atoned. By
reclaiming his grandmother s regalia, Jackson is atoned for his mistakes and grievances of the

Comparing Terminator Two And Wachowski s The Matrix
Science fiction films constantly question technology s role in our lives. Films such as James Cameron
s Terminator 2 (1991), George Lucas s THX 1138 (1971) and the Wachowski s, The Matrix (1999),
discuss the anxieties and dangers associated with technology. THX 1138 alerts the audience of the
control technology has over the people who use it. The Matrix critiques how susceptible people are to
believe in the visuals of cinema and reject through reality. Terminator 2 focuses on the unreliably of
technology and alerts us of our need to stop relying to machinery and technological development.
Each of these directors portrays the dangers of technology though their own individual use of
cinematic expression. The entire premise of Terminator 2 is to go back in time in order to enlighten
those in the past about the dangerous outcome technology will have on their future. People are
unaware of the consequences of using and developing technology. This irresponsible ... Show more

The Matrix used some of the most high tech technology and editing to do so. Morpheus s ship is
completely wretched and the computers they use are run down. Including unattractive technology in
the composition of the film makes that same technology unappealing to the viewer. The directors
created The Matrix in order to represent the illusions our screens depict. There is editing that slows
down or speeds up the action scenes, like when Neo dodged the multiple bullets, in order to express
the bending of reality. Another example of the cinematic bending of reality is when the helicopter hits
a building and we see the glass walls ripple out. Bending lines represent the distortion of reality in the
film. Technology distorts our perception and confuses us as to the difference of cinematic magic and
the reality of

Individual Moralities, Social Responsibilities and...
In the essay by J.S. Mill, Of the Limits to the Authority of Society over the Individual, he claims that
No person ought to be punished for simply being drunk... In the build up to this conclusion, he offers
several explanations for his reasoning, which include individual morality and responsibility, public
interference and establishing precisely where authority over an individual beings for the society.
As an individual within a society, you become obliged to follow certain codes of conduct, regardless
of your own individual morals. To maintain a harmonious balance within a society, each person must
behave within a certain code of conduct towards the rest of the individuals and the society as a whole.
Although the code does not ask individuals to change their own morals, it does ask that they not injure
the interests or rights of others. One must also realize that their morals may differ from that of another
individual. Although they may practice their right of freedom by living according to their own morals
and beliefs, they must still attempt to live within this social code of conduct.
Furthermore, it becomes the responsibility of one s self to ensure they are respecting the benefits given
to them as a part of the society. As Mill says, Everyone who receives the protection of society owes a
return for the benefit. (16) This can be achieved in various ways, such as returning good deeds, and
acting in good faith towards the society. Unfortunately, it is often much

The Difference Between Tangled and Rapunzel The Short Story
Tangled In many fairy tales, there is always a damsel in distress that is beautiful and the male
character always falls in love with her. In Rapunzel the short story, Rapunzel is put into a tower and
lives there most of her young life by her mother before her prince comes to recuse her. The difference
between Tangled and Rapunzel the short story is that, Rapunzel is the princess and her prince is
actually a thief, which ends up falling in love with her. Tangled illustrates how a naïve and beautiful
heroine, evil mother figure, and a shallow egotistical hero can make a fairy tale story end with love
and marriage.
As in many fairy tales we have grown up with, the characters are always beautiful or handsome, with
an evil mother that wants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So ingrained is the image of women s beauty in fairy tales that it is difficult to imagine any that do not
highlight and glorify it. (722). Therefore, each story uses beauty to draw in a bigger audience because
no one wants to see an ugly duckling. This is how the media portrays women today, that they should
be skinny and beautiful and if they are not then no one will want to be like them; the young beautiful
women get more rewards. What that shows girls is that they must be a fairy tale character just to be
noticed, but what they do not understand is how naïve Rapunzel is to her surroundings because mother
Gothel will not let her out of the tower. Since Rapunzel has only been around her mother, she has no
concept of the outside world and the people in it. Rapunzel is naïve and does not want to disobey her
mother, but wants to see the floating lanterns for her birthday. Rapunzel is also selfless and does not
want to disappoint her mother, but she still craves the outside world. Mother Gothel is always telling
her that the people will only use her for her hair and that she will not be able to take care of herself.
When leaving the tower she has conflicting emotions and has a hard time deciding to go forward or to
just stay. She does not want mother Gothel to be heartbroken and disappointed in her decision to leave
because

Questionnaire On Catering For Diversity Essay
2. Catering for Diversity
Artefact 1: Year 2 lesson plan on persuasive writing evaluation of plan, 2015.
Assessment of student learning Observation of student responses.
Assessment of student posters using key words of persuasion (from initial brainstorming session)
Evaluation Some students did not grasp the concept of the poster as struggled to come up with reasons
as to what in the poster persuades them to watch the movie.
As a result spent more time on discussing the poster therefore students did not get enough time to
complete their posters.
Follow up lesson on persuasive posters.
This artefact was utilised on my prac in April of 2015 with a Year 2 class. The lesson was an English
lesson, covering the content of persuasive words and writing. My mentor informed me the students
had previously worked on persuasive words and so I planned the lesson according to this. Students
viewed the movie poster for Madagascar 3, which I chose based on their interests. I engaged the
students in discussions about the target audience, text, colour, characters and how these all things
contribute to persuade people to go and watch the movie. As a class we brainstormed key persuading
words. Students were then asked to create their own persuasive poster about something they like and
would like to persuade their peers to like. This ensured that the lesson catered for student diversity as
they all have different interests and were encouraged to present them in their own creative

  • 2. Chaldean Culture Sunday nights were reserved for extended family dinners at my grandparent s house. Loud music, different food and strange dancing were commonplace at these large gatherings. We were Chaldean a small Catholic minority originating from northern Iraq with ties to ancient Mesopotamia. The dinners provided me with a gateway, bridging my everyday experience with my ancestral culture. On Mondays, I would return to school with leftover dolma or beef kafta, which established an immediate rapport with other Chaldean students and helped to form the basis of many long term friendships. Years later, once I had graduated to the adult table at our Sunday dinners, I noticed a predictable trend. Sometime after the plates had been cleared, but before the baklava and coffee were served, the family conversation would shift to a discussion about the Iraq War, eventually giving way to passionate and lively debates. My relatives would discuss the progress of the American invasion, important political actors and the policy implications of certain U.S. actions. Not only is the community concerned about breaking up families, but for many Chaldeans, deportation comes with the risk of religious persecution from members of ISIS or its sympathizers. • 5. Positive And Negative Effects Of Technological Change Technological change is an increase in the efficiency of a process (usually done by a machine) which results in more output, but without input having been increased (Winston, n.d). A specific level of technological advancement is necessary for productivity and growth in the economy of a country. The absence of proper technological change retards the economic growth and technological change has impacted the world by creating new products and processes, increasing efficiency and lowering costs, and helping economies evolve. Structural unemployment is the situation when the jobs are available and workers are willing work, but they don t have the required job skills to qualify for the vacant positions or just simply the mismatch between the jobs available and the skill levels of the unemployed. Technological change may make some skills obsolete or require new ones. For example, the introduction of personal computers since the 1980s, has lowered demand for typists who lacked computer skills (Rittenberg Tregarthen. 2012, p 216). Technological changes have negative effects on employment. It negatively affects the value the value of workers and automated processes and other technology have become more important to the process of increasing output. Workers are less expensive to replace than machines therefore they have become less valuable as a result of technological change. Government s economic policies have an influence on technology development and adoption because it helps ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Plot Summary of Remember the Titans Essays Remember the Titans is a film from 2000 displaying a true story of a racially divided football team from the 1970s. The movie highlights the relationships of the black and white people, and how they learned to interact with each other in a time when this was not the way of life. It brings up a number of questions throughout, of what is right and what is wrong, and really challenges the characters, making it a very interesting movie to watch. I have seen this movie many times, and each time I feel like I get something new out of it. It is a movie that can be used as a teaching tool, it does a great job of interpreting not only what was happening in the United States of America at that time, but social psychology concepts through real life ... The text explains that, They may label each other as enemies, view their own group as morally superior, draw the boundaries between themselves and their opponents more firmly, and, under extreme conditions, may come to see the opposing group as not even human (Baron Branscombe, 2012). I would not say that the characters in the movie took this idea as far as the text explains, but there were many examples of this happening. The first example would be between the coaches. Coach Boone was given Coach Yoast s coaching position, and offers him an assistant position for the team. Coach Yoast accepts the position, only for his players, but ensuring that his old assistant gets a job as well. Now that the teams have integrated, there really is not enough room for all the coaches, and it seems like each group is looking out for their own. Coach Boone also has his assistant working with him, so now this makes four different coaches for T.C. William s football team. With all of this happening the two white coaches and the two black coaches are not 100% getting along. They do not agree with one another s ideas and have clear prejudices about one another, displaying the realistic conflict theory. Everyone that has a yard to mow or ever drove past a farm knows what a John Deere tractor looks like. You don t have to be a farmer to recognize the green tractor with the yellow lettering as a John Deere. These tractors are so well built and designed that television commercials say Nothing runs like a Deere . However, few of us may know the life story behind the man John Deere who invented the design of the simple farm plow and in doing so started a company that would create farm products used and recognized throughout the globe. I m going to be telling how John Deere Lived. John Deere was born on February 4, 1804 in Vermont. His parents William and Sarah Deere. They were tailors that had immigrated to Vermont from England. Life was hard for the Deere family when their blacksmith business slowed in 1808. John s dad took a trip back to his home country in hopes of finding a better life for his family. In the lesser depression that the US economy is emerging from now, thanks to the radical and fearless monetary policy settings delivered by Bernanke, the unemployment rate peaked at 10% and since the market and economy crash started in 2008, the unemployment rate had averaged around 8%. On these facts alone, Bernanke should deserve unquestioned praise. Bernanke s comment that the Fed would maintain highly accommodative monetary policy for the foreseeable future sparked the mood swing on Wall Street. As noted on above, this is appropriate, but what the market may be missing is what highly accommodative policy actually means, at least to the Federal Reserve. It is not unreasonable to think that holding interest rates near zero for the next couple of years is accommodative . It most certainly is. Maintaining bond purchases is also obviously accommodative policy, but there could be a subtlety in Bernanke s likely approach. If in coming months interest rates are held at zero (which is as certain as anyone can be on any policy setting), yet the Fed starts to scale back its $85 billion bond purchases a month to $75 billion, then $50 billion and so on, there is still no question that policy is still accommodative, but a little less than it was before. • 11. Italian Baroque And The Protestant Baroque Styles The Baroque era spans a period of 150 years. During this time, baroque art had four distinct styles. I plan to focus on the Italian Baroque and the Protestant Baroque styles. While these styles share some similarities, they are also very different. The Italian Baroque style is often ornate and focused on religion with an emphasis on the need for the church s guidance. The Protestant Baroque style is plain with no obvious religious messages and less need for guidance from the church. Both styles contain many amazing pieces of artwork, but I plan to focus on Bernini s Baldacchino and Vermeer s Woman Holding a Balance. The Italian Baroque style of art was established by the Catholic Church to bring individuals focus back to the church. This is also known as Counter Reformation. The artwork was often very elaborate, large in scale, showed movement and contained religious objects that glorified the Catholic Church (Armstrong). Another trademark of this time was the ability of the artwork to evoke emotions (Hollander). It was their attempt to show people they must lean on the church to be successful. If there is one piece of art that displays all of these characteristics perfectly, it is the Baldacchino by Bernini. This is a magnificent piece that one could stare at for hours and probably not take in all of the details. The scale of the Baldacchino is enormous. People around him just believe he is losing his mind, so they ignore him until he is actually dead. Furthermore, the assassins attempt to mislead the detectives when they purposely leave belongings of the murderer in Ratchett s room to make it seem as though they are trying to incriminate that person. Colonel Arbuthnot is the only person on the train who admits to smoking using a pipe, so the pipe cleaner found in Ratchett s room makes it seem as though someone is trying to frame him. This makes the detectives feel as though Colonel is innocent, which is another example of the processed thinking the murderers do. Finally, Ratchett is stabbed twelve time, which is both a metaphor, and part of the revenge. The group feels as though proper justice is not served in the Armstrong, so they stab Ratchett twelve time symbolizing twelve jury members, as well as a stab for each other as revenge. Poirot realizes the connection when he says, And then, Messieurs, I saw light. They were all in it. . . . A jury is composed of twelve people there were twelve passengers Ratchett was stabbed twelve times (306). The metaphor and emotion behind the stabbing makes it clear that the murder of Ratchett is an act of pure vengeance. Key, Jr. s views on lobby groups they have different interpretations on role and interaction of these groups in government. In a democratic system there is bound to be resentment and desire for change because it is impossible to satisfy everybody. Truman and Key describe how those individuals try to be recognized while forming groups for strength in numbers . Truman states that the National Government and the State Legislatures take notice when the interest groups consolidate and tend to accept compromises over common goals. When they are verified of an increasing amount of support for a particular policy or deceit against it, they usually take action. In this manner, the interest groups are beneficial to the government because their opinions were created by an individual and therefore they give the government a greater ability to facilitate the lifestyle of their citizens. The interest groups can be very misleading in their size because of their pressure to convert and convince impressionable people. Truman believes that the formation of interest groups and political parties was inevitable because we offered elections as a means of representation and also in a large, complex, diverse society there will always be people who are longing for change. From this section of Truman s work it shows that lobby groups were helpful in modifying the National Government to perform at a more responsive level. The Government could not have survived based solely on the impact of interest groups. They survived and thrived for power in a symbiotic relationship benefiting both groups. It was three days before Christmas and the sun was just rising over the snow covered mountain range, the morning sky was grey with a splash of pastel pink and a warm yellow. With the smell of black coffee, I woke up in my sister s room. The sunshine was beginning to peak into the small yellow room, my sister, Allison, was still sleeping with shallow breaths. With a burst of strength, the door opens and the cold and angry air slaps my face. Hopping out the front door, my dachshund lands in a pile of snow and pushes the snow in the house. • 24. The Importance Of College Writing I learned the slang phrase One and done in the NBA (National Basketball Association) Draft this summer. For non basketball fans, it simply means that aspiring basketball players will try to get themselves drafted in the NBA after completing only one year in college. During the NBA draft night, the player may or may not get drafted depending on if their skills are viewed by the managers and coaches enough to play in the professional level. Throughout my college writing experience, I have been a One and done kind of writer. In this case, it means turning in the first drafts of the papers I write without major revision, something that I regret not doing. Not only because of the not so great feedbacks and grades that I got but also because I knew that I could have done better but for some reasons I decided not to. Most business work places have not accepted their request and have made the desired parent of that child to come back to work as quickly as possible, even if that time spent with their baby is more important. Paternity/Maternity leave is important and has a tremendous amount of impact on that child and how they will act in the future, which is why that time after birth should be extended to a set amount of time of one year. Paternity leave is the time that a father is allowed to be away from work after the birth of his child(Paternity Leave 1). Maternity leave is the time when a mother is allowed to be away from work after the birth of her child. Both are equally as important. As far as India has been concerned, therefore, the only issue for discussion has been what India regards as Pakistan s continuing illegal occupation of part of Jammu and Kashmir, an occupation that began in 1947–48, during the war between the two. • 30. The Heart Of Cardiac Muscle Essay INTRODUCTION The cardiac muscle, more commonly known as the heart muscle, is quite different from the more familiar know skeletal muscle. Unlike skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle is able to conduct its own electrical impulses allowing it to contract and relax spontaneously without being told to by the brain or any other organ (Marieb, Mitchell, p. 512). This is due to the constant leakage of sodium ions into the mainly potassium filled cells which then eventually lead to action potentials causing the heart to beat rhythmically (Mariev, Mitchell, p.512) this rhythm is more commonly referred to as one s heartbeat. From this BIOPAC laboratory, the student(s) should learn how different stimuli will affect a resting heart rate. Due to the fact that cardiac muscle is able to create action potentials on its own, a change in chemical, temperature, and ionic balance causes the heart to react differently and change its rhythm of beats by either slowing down or speeding up. More specifically, by saturating the heart with histamine the heart rate should speed up, while pilocarpine will cause the heart to substantially slow, and finally the addition of epinephrine will cause the resting heart rate to speed up. These two themes are first stated in Genesis 1:28, but recur many times throughout Genesis, especially with Abraham, his son Isaac, and Isaac s son Jacob. One challenge Abraham faces in regards to the blessing of progeny is his wife s, Sarah s, barrenness. This barrenness is a fact of her existence. (Brown, 309) At first Sarah gives Abraham one of her slaves, Hagar, in order for him to have a child. (Gen. 16) This is exploitation, but when Hagar becomes pregnant, it improves her situation from being just a slave, to being protected because she is pregnant. (Weems) Hagar gives birth to Ishmael, Abraham s first born. After this, God opens Sarah s womb and she is able to have a child, Isaac. (Gen. 21) Sarah then has Ishmael and Hagar sent away because she wants Isaac to receive the full inheritance by himself. But God promises Abraham that a nation will be made from Ishmael as well as Isaac. (Gen. 21) This shows that God favors the oppressed, especially since he takes care of Hagar and Ishmael while they are in the wilderness. The Problems Of Obedience And Authority Evangelina Venturini Colleen Harvel English F6974 October 15, 2014 The Problems of Obedience to Authority People will do about anything to stay out of trouble when it comes to someone with authority that cannot be argued with. Stanley Milgram did an experiment on the topic of obedience to authority; he wanted to know how ordinary people could do horrible things if forced to by someone of authority. Obedience to authority is instinctual for human beings, there has and will always be someone with a higher authority than ourselves. How can normal, ordinary people that think of themselves or are thought of as genuinely good people do things that they know is morally wrong when told to do so by someone of authority? That is the question that Milgram asked himself when he started his experiments. The main point of the experiment was to test why people listen and act on what people of authority tell them to do. Milgram took ordinary people and proved that most of the general populace is willing to physically hurt another human being if provoked by someone in a position of authority. This causes a person to question as Encina does, Why were those who challenged authority in the minority? So entrenched is obedience it may void personal codes of conduct (Encina). In the experiment Milgram picked people off of the streets and tested them on how far they would go to hurt someone when instructed to do so by someone of authority. On average, 1 in 8 deaths are caused by some type of air pollution. Fossil fuels are burned every day to keep the world functioning but are accompanied by tremendous amounts of pollution. The world needs energy sources that are as effective as fossil fuels but that come with less harmful pollutants than fossil fuels do. An effort must be made to pull away from harmful fossil fuels and to switch over to cleaner energy sources such as solar power, wind power, and geothermal power. Switching over to cleaner energy is very important because of the eminent threat of global warming that lurks just around the corner. If humans are not careful, they will damage the environment and the atmosphere to a point beyond repair. Major factories and cities can begin to convert to cleaner energy sources and cut back on pollution tremendously. They can do this by harnessing energy from the sun, utilizing frequent gusts of wind, and by tapping into the heat of the Earth s core. Fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas account for roughly 85 percent of total energy that is used in the United States. All three of these fossil fuels release harmful gases such as carbon dioxide and monoxide, sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, and hydrocarbons into our atmosphere. Planaria are acoelomates, which means that they do not have a body cavity or organs. They have a solid middle part of their body made from a type of germ layer in animals. They also only have one opening for their digestive system and have a bilaterally symmetric body plan. They have no circulatory system and a simple nervous system with ganglia in the anterior region of the head that acts as a brain. They have eyespots that can sense light and flaps on their heads that can sense chemicals in the water. They like the dark and exhibit negative photo taxis if exposed to light, which means that they will move away from the light. Planaria can reproduce asexually through transverse fission or sexually. All planaria are hermaphrodites, which means that each animal has both male and females reproductive parts and can fertilize itself (Castle, 1927). The regenerative abilities of the planaria are truly remarkable. Thomas Hunt Morgan found in the late 1800s that a single planarian can be cut into 279 pieces, and each piece would grow into a new planarian. The materials are usually stolen by ex lovers, ex spouses, associates, or total strangers through hacking, theft of a cell phone or computer, mostly when a computer is being repaired, a false personal ad, or other means (Fritsch et al, 2015). Also, the perpetrators usually post other identifying information with the videos and images, including the victim s name, relations to social media accounts, email addresses, physical addresses of their place of employment and residence, phone numbers, and even social security information. • 42. Analysis Of Imperial Dreams In Imperial Dreams directed by Malik Booth, one scene shows the main character Bambi letting his son: Daytone riding a horse, which portrays both his son and his happiness even though they aren t in a happy environment. This is shown through different shots and techniques such as; a medium shot showing Daytone riding the horse; a close up on Bambi s face to show his facial expressions and actors performance; lighting and colour ; and a long shot to show Bambi paying the man who owned the horse, money for the horse ride. All these help to show happiness in Bambi and Daytone. Malik Booth uses a medium shot to show happiness. Happiness is shown on Daytone s face when he is seen riding the horse. The medium shot shows Daytone with a big grin on his face, brightening up his whole face while sitting on top of the horse. Earlier in the film, we see Daytone playing with a toy horse, which normally means he likes it. He also doesn t recognize Bambi which means that Day didn t know his own father. But now Day stays with his father and having him ride an actual horse is like a big present that is given to us on our birthday or Christmas. Which normally feels exciting and ecstatic. For Bambi to give this gift to Daytone which symbolizes the horse, shows the audience how much he cares for him and that he shows it through this scene. Malik also uses a close up shot on Bambi s face to show ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Omnivore s Dilemma Summary The Omnivore s Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals, by Michael Pollan, is about one man s journey through the food production system and how he arrives at the conclusion that although hunting and gathering may be an excellent means to keep oneself healthy, it is really up to the individual as to what they are willing to put in their body. Pollan begins section 1 ( Industrial Corn ) by analyzing how far the practice of shopping for groceries at the supermarket has taken modern society from the natural environment the food is (presumably) gathered from. He cites the florescent lighting, comparing it to the less harsh rays of the sun. From here, Pollan relates the story of a corn farmer from Iowa, George Naylor, to expound upon the impact ... • 47. Comparing Terminator Two And Wachowski s The Matrix Science fiction films constantly question technology s role in our lives. Films such as James Cameron s Terminator 2 (1991), George Lucas s THX 1138 (1971) and the Wachowski s, The Matrix (1999), discuss the anxieties and dangers associated with technology. THX 1138 alerts the audience of the control technology has over the people who use it. The Matrix critiques how susceptible people are to believe in the visuals of cinema and reject through reality. Terminator 2 focuses on the unreliably of technology and alerts us of our need to stop relying to machinery and technological development. Each of these directors portrays the dangers of technology though their own individual use of cinematic expression. The entire premise of Terminator 2 is to go back in time in order to enlighten those in the past about the dangerous outcome technology will have on their future. The Matrix used some of the most high tech technology and editing to do so. Morpheus s ship is completely wretched and the computers they use are run down. Including unattractive technology in the composition of the film makes that same technology unappealing to the viewer. The directors created The Matrix in order to represent the illusions our screens depict. There is editing that slows down or speeds up the action scenes, like when Neo dodged the multiple bullets, in order to express the bending of reality. Another example of the cinematic bending of reality is when the helicopter hits a building and we see the glass walls ripple out. Bending lines represent the distortion of reality in the film. • 48. Individual Moralities, Social Responsibilities and... In the essay by J.S. Mill, Of the Limits to the Authority of Society over the Individual, he claims that No person ought to be punished for simply being drunk... In the build up to this conclusion, he offers several explanations for his reasoning, which include individual morality and responsibility, public interference and establishing precisely where authority over an individual beings for the society. As an individual within a society, you become obliged to follow certain codes of conduct, regardless of your own individual morals. To maintain a harmonious balance within a society, each person must behave within a certain code of conduct towards the rest of the individuals and the society as a whole. Although the code does not ask individuals to change their own morals, it does ask that they not injure the interests or rights of others. One must also realize that their morals may differ from that of another individual. Although they may practice their right of freedom by living according to their own morals and beliefs, they must still attempt to live within this social code of conduct. Furthermore, it becomes the responsibility of one s self to ensure they are respecting the benefits given to them as a part of the society. As Mill says, Everyone who receives the protection of society owes a return for the benefit. (16) This can be achieved in various ways, such as returning good deeds, and acting in good faith towards the society. Unfortunately, it is often much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. The Difference Between Tangled and Rapunzel The Short Story Tangled In many fairy tales, there is always a damsel in distress that is beautiful and the male character always falls in love with her. In Rapunzel the short story, Rapunzel is put into a tower and lives there most of her young life by her mother before her prince comes to recuse her. The difference between Tangled and Rapunzel the short story is that, Rapunzel is the princess and her prince is actually a thief, which ends up falling in love with her. Tangled illustrates how a naïve and beautiful heroine, evil mother figure, and a shallow egotistical hero can make a fairy tale story end with love and marriage. So ingrained is the image of women s beauty in fairy tales that it is difficult to imagine any that do not highlight and glorify it. (722). Therefore, each story uses beauty to draw in a bigger audience because no one wants to see an ugly duckling. This is how the media portrays women today, that they should be skinny and beautiful and if they are not then no one will want to be like them; the young beautiful women get more rewards. What that shows girls is that they must be a fairy tale character just to be noticed, but what they do not understand is how naïve Rapunzel is to her surroundings because mother Gothel will not let her out of the tower. Since Rapunzel has only been around her mother, she has no concept of the outside world and the people in it. Rapunzel is naïve and does not want to disobey her mother, but wants to see the floating lanterns for her birthday. Rapunzel is also selfless and does not want to disappoint her mother, but she still craves the outside world. Mother Gothel is always telling her that the people will only use her for her hair and that she will not be able to take care of herself. Assessment of student learning Observation of student responses. Assessment of student posters using key words of persuasion (from initial brainstorming session) Evaluation Some students did not grasp the concept of the poster as struggled to come up with reasons as to what in the poster persuades them to watch the movie. As a result spent more time on discussing the poster therefore students did not get enough time to complete their posters. Follow up lesson on persuasive posters. This artefact was utilised on my prac in April of 2015 with a Year 2 class. The lesson was an English lesson, covering the content of persuasive words and writing. My mentor informed me the students had previously worked on persuasive words and so I planned the lesson according to this. Students viewed the movie poster for Madagascar 3, which I chose based on their interests. I engaged the students in discussions about the target audience, text, colour, characters and how these all things contribute to persuade people to go and watch the movie. As a class we brainstormed key persuading words. Students were then asked to create their own persuasive poster about something they like and would like to persuade their peers to like. This ensured that the lesson catered for student diversity as they all have different interests and were encouraged to present them in their own creative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
