5. -Harana music is a traditional style of courting music. It is very romantic.
-In this act, the most trusted instrument is the guitar. Its sound complemented the Spanish-influenced
songs with the poetry and lyricism of the Tagalog language.

other musicians when the main musician needed help.
-Some people still practice the traditional style of music.
-The lyrics are very important in maintaining the Harana style. The singer puts himself in
the act of serenading and say things such as “Dungawin mo hirang” (Look out the window my
beloved), “Natutulog ka na ba, sinta?” (Are you asleep, my love?)
6. -Kundiman is a genre of music that is often confused as harana because it is normally played over
harana music.
-More of “lost love” or “Woe is me” and not a style to court people.
-The singer is normally heartbroken and sad about his or her love.
-Kundiman comes from the phrase “Kung hindi man” which translates to “If it is not”.
-Kundiman is written in 3/4 while harana is written in 2/4.
Verse 1 is written in a minor key and then midway through the song switches to a parallel major key. If
the song doesn't follow this formula it's not a Kundiman.
7. Ang Tangi Kong
Pag-ibig
Ang tangi kong pagibig
ay minsan lamang
Ngunit ang
yung akala
ay hindi tunay
Hindi ka lilimutin
Magpakailan pa man
Habang ako
ay narito
at may buhay
Malasin mo’y nagtiis
ng kalungkutan
Ang buhay ko’y
unti-unti
na pumapanaw
Wari ko ba’y sinta
Ako’y mamatay
Kung di kita ang
kapiling
habambuhay
