Elie Wiesel s The Help
The Help is a novel that explores the lives of black maids living in the racially unjust, Mississippi in
the 1960s, by using the perspective of two black maids and a female, white writer. Minny and Aibileen
are the two maids who are close friends and like many other maids, have spent the majority of their
life cleaning up after white families and raising their kids. Skeeter is the third character the novel
centers around; she fondly remembers her own maid, Constantine but lacks information about her
disappearance and current whereabouts. Her ambition to write and love for her childhood career lead
her and the maids to eventually come together and become involved in a dangerous project which puts
all their lives at risk.

Why The Rich Are Getting Richer
Many people wonder in the world, why are the rich getting richer ? Which is a very important
question. Over countless years, the wealthy have found many ways around taxes like loopholes and
tax deductions. Meanwhile, the lower class are left lost and clueless to any sort of tips around taxes
and leaves them in turmoil. In Reich s Why the Rich are Getting Richer he goes on and explains just
that, why are the rich getting richer. The economic difficulties that have been circulating in America
have been making it challenging for people to pay their taxes, while only two percent of the
Americans are sitting on their high horse sponging up all their money. America is the way it is because
society doesn t sit down and take in that the wealthy are only getting richer while the poor or people in
poverty struggle to just keep up with their bills. One of the biggest things in the United States is social
security. It has put many people in trouble and I don t get why the rich are getting it after they retire.
Through the world we have always struggled with people not getting paid enough or people getting
paid to much. Most of the people are getting paid far less than what they should. Through this essay I
am going to give you information about social security and the effects it has had on lives of people,
including the rich. When first created in 1935, Social Security was first thought of, as a social
insurance program as an idea to provide income to the elderly through

Migration from Sudan into the United States Essay
Migration from Sudan into the United States In recent years the US has experienced a large influx of
migration. Immigrants come from many different countries, races, religions and for many different
reasons. One group of immigrants that received national attention is a group from Sudan that has been
called The Lost Boys . The reason behind the national attention is due to the dramatic circumstances
that brought them to America. To understand these circumstances it is important to understand their
history. Sudan is the largest country in Africa. It is between two powerful cultural regions, the Islamic
north and the Christian south. Africa has more than 400 languages and dialects. There are 597
different ethnic groups with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This Law seriously violated the 1972 peace agreement, forcing the south to adopt Arab culture,
language and the religion of Islam. The Nimeiry government was strengthening Sudan s ties to Egypt
and Saudi Arabia, as economic hardships drew it away from the Soviet Union and closer to western
nations. During the 1980 s, strikes, riots and shortages of goods and services had devastated the
nation. The discovery of natural resources, such as minerals and petroleum that were discovered in the
south added to the problem. Although the discovery of natural reserves should have helped Sudan s
economic situation, it became another source of conflict between the north and the south over who
would control it. The southern forces backed indirectly by the Soviet Union through Ethiopia
reorganized into the Sudan Peoples Liberation Army and rose up against the North. At this point in the
civil unrest, the war took on a religious aspect, fueled by Nimeiry s implementation of the Sharia,
which is Islamic law. In 1986 a coup forced Nimeiry out of power and he was replaced by a coalition
of northern political parties. On 1989 a northern coalition was overthrown by General Omar al Bashir
and Hasan al Tarabi, a fundamentalist leader of the National Islamic Front. Sudan was turned into an
Islamic dictatorship outlawing all other political parties except the National Islamic

How Much Attention And Nurturing Children Receive
How much attention and nurturing children receive does, in fact, affect how they will develop as
adolescents and adults in areas of personality, emotion, and social interaction. John Bowlby, a British
researcher, a child psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, is well known in Psychology for his research
specializing in parent or primary caregiver child relationships. His research influenced Mary
Ainsworth who later became his research assistant and continued his research on attachment after his
death. Being neglected as a child by parents and caregivers, he understood the negative effects of
growing up lonely and detached. John Bowlby founded the attachment theory, an essential theory in
Psychology that reveals the negative impact of neglect and is now used as a reference to understand its
effects. The theory is an important advance in Developmental Psychology because children were now
viewed as vulnerable and need the care to develop to their full potential development. Therefore,
methods of how to understand and interact with the victims of neglect were needed for professionals
in the fields of medicine, law, and education.
Being born into an upper class family in the 20th century, John Bowlby was a prime example of a
victim of neglect. Upper class families often left their children to caregivers and seldom interacted
with them, similar to Bowlby s case. Elizabeth Carr and Mauricio Cortina in Heinz Kohut and John

The Major Impact Of The Mexican-American War
Introduction The conflict that started in 25th April 1846 up to 2nd February 1848 between America
and Mexico was termed as the Mexican American War and had a significant to both nations. The
reason for the commencement of the war was due to Manifest Destiny, a populist belief that
Americans had a divine right to the land and so enjoyed the freedom to expand their borders towards
the Pacific Ocean. The conflict, which was due to the exact position to place the border for each
country affected mainly the natives. Although both countries actively participated in the war, there
were individuals in America who were against it among them being Henry David Thoreau, an
American writer and philosopher. Those against the war claimed that the United States actions in the
war were unethical.
Thesis: The close to two year long Mexican American war had a major impact to both countries as it
affected the natives by redefining their rights and responsibilities when Mexico lost much of its land
to the US.
Factors That Led to and Progression of the War ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mexico protected itself through constant guerilla attacks on the American supply chains. After the fall
of Mexico City, peace negotiations began when the Mexican government surrendered. On 2nd
February 1848, there was signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo by Mexico bringing the war to
an end (Cukwurah, 60). In the treaty, 525000 miles were added to the US territory as Mexico stopped
its claim on Texas. Rio Grande became officially the US Mexico border while the US had to pay $15
million to Mexico. The treaty helped in stopping Mexican causalities that were increasing at an
alarming rate. Whereas many Americans view the conflict as just war, many Mexicans feel that the
war was an American invasion of their land. The decision to use Military intervention by the US
instead of sticking to negotiations appeared as

Emily In Emily Faulkner s A Rose For Emily
A Rose for Emily illustrate love, disappointment of life, grief, death, and rejection that Emily has
received throughout her life; as a young woman in her time. Emily is not able to be herself in an era
where women had an important role in society. She was expected to be the one person that the town
wanted. She was expected to be proper, outstanding, and punctual. She wanted to be herself and not
have someone always looking over her shoulder. So throughout the story the town people whisper
about her in the hopes it wouldn t get back to her. The narrators of this story are from the perspective
of how they see her. Emily is different in a time when difference is not ratified or accepted. When
Emily finally passed away all of the town went to her funeral, which was held in her home. The last
type of star home for the period of time. It was a big, squarish frame house that had once been white,
decorated with cupolas and spires and scrolled balconies in the heavily lightsome style of the
seventies. (Faulkner 861). No one had been in her house, besides the old man servant that would take
care of her, for 10 years. After Emily s Father died she received notifications of her past due balances
to pay her taxes. She never left the house and when the mayor and aldermen, or the younger
generation, came over to see her in her home she was surprised to see them because she lived in
isolation for 10 years after her father died. When mayor and alderman got there they had

The Lovers, By Rachel Mcadams And Ryan Gosling
We re gonna have to work at this everyday, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you,
forever, everyday. You and me...everyday. Sound familiar? The lovers are named Allie Hamilton and
Noah Calhoun, also known as Duke. As young people, these characters are played by Rachel
McAdams and Ryan Gosling. These actors portray first loves and heartbreak that tugs on your
heartstrings beautifully just wanting and waiting for more.
Starting off the movie with a beautiful scene looking across a sunrise filled lake, which it gives off a
comfortable, warm feeling to the viewers at home or in the theater. Then it pans out to an elder Noah
Calhoun (played by James Garner) taking his daily medicine in a nursing home. Third scene shows an
also elderly Allie Hamilton (Gena Rowlands) looking over the lake from her bedroom window. A
nurse is asking her several questions about how she is feeling and what she would like to do that day.
Allie doesn t give off any interest in doing anything the nurse is suggesting. Noah enters her room
with a notebook, offering to read to her. The nurse insists that Allie should do something else but Allie
quickly accepts Noah s offer and sits herself down to listen to him read from the notebook that which
she wrote many years ago. This sets up the opening of the classic love story, The Notebook.
The setting goes between a summer in South Carolina in the 1940 s with the young version of the
lovers and present day time with the elderly version

How Sexuality is Socially Constructed Essay
From birth, one s sexuality is shaped by society. Cultures institute behaviors that are to be seen as the
societal norms, which work to constantly reinforce societal expectations of how genders should act in
relation to one another. Although some may argue that one s sexuality is an innate characteristic
resulting from genetic makeup, there is a large amount of evidence pointing to its social construction
instead. Through the power differences between males and females, established gender roles, and
drastic economic shifts, society establishes sexuality and reinforces the behaviors that are expected of
its citizens.
As Tamsin Wilton explains in her piece, Which One s the Man? The Heterosexualisation of Lesbian
Sex, society has fronted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wilton later describes how, by turning away from the heterosexual male female institution, women are
taking a crucial step on the path of liberation. Although a woman may be content having relations with
a male, the male s dominant role in society should be enough persuasion for the former to leave such
structured relationship so as to explore a freer partnership that goes against societal expectations.
Wilton refers to Monique Wittig, a French author and feminist theorist, who states our survival
demands that we contribute all our strength to the destruction of the class of women within which men
appropriate women. Thus, Wittig expresses that heterosexuality is a social system (Wilton 165). Why
heterosexuality is forced upon the majority, however, is still unclear. Emily Martin, in her article, The
Egg and the Sperm: How Science has Constructed a Romance Based on Stereotypical Male Female
Roles, explains why this is so. Procreation can only occur upon the union of sperm and egg and their
behaviors have created stereotypes which imply not only that female biological processes are less
worthy than their male counterparts but also that women

Appalachian Mountains And Appalachians
Appalachians
The Appalachian Mountains region is roughly 360,000 km squared, taking up about 3.6 percent of
Canada s land surface. This region locates itself on the islands of Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova
Scotia, New Brunswick, and a bit of Quebec, with Moncton and Halifax as some of its major
cities. The rocks, most of which are mostly sedimentary, were changed drastically when Europe and
North America collided, causing its geography to be uneven, with many jagged peaks. Forestry,
agriculture, fishing, tourism, coal mining, logging, and manufacturing are their main industries.Their
overall population lands at a bit more than 25 million. Some interesting facts are that they have the
oldest mountains and the richest fishing.
Canadian Shield Despite covering 5 million km squared of land (over 50 percent) it does not have
ideal soil for crops while having the richest area for mining. The Canadian Shield occupies most of
Quebec, much of Ontario, Nunavut, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories and a small portion
of Alberta. Some of the jobs in this area of only 7 million are lumbering, mining, and manufacturing.
Their land contains mostly igneous and metamorphic rock plus many minerals (gold, nickel, lead,
copper, zinc,). When the tectonic plates collided the mountains, later eroded to flatland or rounded
hills. Its geography also contains rivers and lakes from glaciers. Some of their largest cities are
Montreal and Kugluktuk.

The Most Common Ways People Identify Themselves
Race is one of the most common ways people identify themselves. There are different advantages and
disadvantages associated with different races. People are often judged on how they look and act. Some
people benefit more than others just based on race. Others can be put at a disadvantage because of
their sexual orientation. The family you are born into can have a major impact on how you are seen
and what type of privileges and struggles you will face in life. Looking at my life specifically, I will
reflect on how the culture, including race and gender, from the past and present can influence people s
lives in general and in education. My mom s side of the family arrived in the United States in the late
1800 s. Both of my grandmother and grandfather s families came to the United States voluntarily. My
grandmother s family came from England. Her grandfather, who came from an affluent family, first
arrived in Ellis Island, New York, but later settled in the Maryland Eastern Shore. Similarly, my
grandfather s family settled in the Maryland Eastern Shore after coming from Czech Republic.
Though they came voluntarily, they feared the Russians taking over their country so decided to leave.
On each side of the family, farming was the main type of work they engaged in. Both sides started
attending school in the early 1900 s. At this time it was only common to attend school for a few years
because staying at home to attend the farm was more of priority than formal schooling. My

Why Graffiti Should Be Considered Art
Why Graffiti should be Considered ART?
Why should graffiti be considered art? There are easily no worthy reasons... Oh, but there are so many
reasons. It in inspires people, makes people famous, and has an ancient history. The definition of art
states that it is a visual and a form of expressing yourself. And every piece of graffiti is a visual and is
a form of expressing yourself. Without it, many people wouldn t have a way to express themselves. It
extinguishes many emotions. There would most likely be more crime in our states and country.
Why is it important? Graffiti is very inspiring to many people that walk up and down popular streets.
It inspires some our most known and beautiful art around the world. Some places have the most

The Devastating Power of Western Colonialism Essay
The colonial efforts of an imperialist power leave a wake of suffering and death, usually for the mere
purpose of propagating political, economic or military advantages. The culture and status of the
colonized is forever altered by the often cruel and violent actions taken by the colonizers during their
initial struggle for influence, along with the long term impacts that slavery, subjugation, cultural
appropriation and linguistic imperialism have over a colonized region. Hegemonic rule and full scale
imperial endeavors defined English and France foreign affairs during the 19th and early 20th
centuries. As the two largest imperialist superpowers of the time, France and Britain made countless
imperial acquisitions, not the least of which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the nineteenth century, a significant gap started to emerge between the dominant Western
powers an the rest of the world (Marks). The effects of this gap, built in large part on circumstance and
chance can still be seen to this day. The long term impacts of western colonialism extend far beyond
the boundaries of the newly industrialized societies, helping build the foundation for western peri
industrial imperialist culture. The causes for a nation s transition into a more nationalistic identity are
usually complex and nuanced, historically these shifts tend to correspond to reactions to periods of
great pressure and struggle or periods of great economic triumph and innovation. It can be difficult to
ascertain why an entire culture can become compliant in the often atrocious actions that are carried out
through imperialist . A sense of unity within a culture can often emerge as a reaction to a general
feeling tremendous power and influence or of great weakness and vulnerability. While cultural unity
has the potential to be massively beneficial, it can also have horrific consequences. Attempts towards
unification of cultural attitudes towards another group of people is a common tactic towards gaining
support for war, but it s also used as a means for justifying the inhumane treatment of individuals that

Post Impressionism Art Analysis
The Impression of Post Impressionism Art
The Impressionism era was a very important movement in the history of art. The artists
under that movement were not very popular since the style was very different. The product of
Impressionism, Post Impressionism has a more distorted, expressive style because their rules in
terms of content were more free. I will compare and contrast the paintings of this era, Houses at
Auvers by Vincent van Gogh, Goldfish by Henri Matisse, and Mont Sainte Victoire by Paul
Cézanne.
The work of art Houses at Auvers by Vincent van Gogh was made after he left the
asylum at Saint Rémy de Provence. He admitted himself there because he was very sad and
before he arrived he cut off his ear and gave it to a prostitute as a gift. He only resided there for a
short amount of time (the end of 1888 1890) because he became bored. As a result, he moved to
Auvers sur Oise, northwest of Paris. There, he painted Houses at Auvers in June of 1890 which
was one of several works of art made before his suicide in the same year.
Houses at Auvers depicts a landscape of early summer in Auvers sur Oise. It s medium,
like most paintings in this era, is oil on canvas. In this work of art, viewers can see that the
function is for the visual aesthetic, since Van Gogh was really embracing his surroundings by
how he painted it. He used a lot of different values of color, especially the greens in the trees,
grass, and bushes. Lines and brushstrokes

industry. Walter Shewart developed his first statistical theory about quality control. He made his first
sketch of a modern control chart, which is later on, developed by Deming in the 1940 s. It was the first
time when this statistical theory began to be applied to manufacturing process. However there was
little use of these techniques till the beginning of 1950 s.
By the last midcentury, the demand of quality control was highly increasing due to the raise of mass
production. The techniques of the quality control became strongly important and required during the
1940 s and 1950 s.
At the same time, Japanese people recognized the importance of quality management. They started to
implement quality management practices in their industry by the 1950 s. A decade later, Japan started
to export products to USA and Europe which was cheaper and higher in quality, compared to western
products.
Consumers worldwide relied on Japanese products as higher quality and cheaper price comparing to
western products. North American considered japan as serious threat to their industry and realized the
magnitude of quality management. Figure 1 illustrates the difference between Japanese quality

The Mafia s Influence On Hip Hop
The Mafia s influence on Hip Hop In Rap, there is a unique culture, history, social impact and
influence on society. Hip Hop/Rap is one of the most popular genre of music. It has helped shape the
pop culture into what it is today. What is popular culture? The ideas, activities or products, which are
popular among the general mass. In today s pop culture, one subject that is at the top of the list is hip
hop/rap. Hip Hop music highlights verses consisting of slang and catchy phrases, which some parents
find troublesome. However, the younger generation find it to be an expression of an artist s life.

When talking about the American Mafia, mostly it s referring to the Italians and their influence.
During the height of the Mafia its influence on society was massive and mostly in a negative way. In
pop culture, the Mafia represented violence, gang affiliations, and criminals. Although, in the
perspective of our generation today some view them as heroes. The reason for this is mostly from the
rise of hip hop in society and how people view it. The Mafia s impact on hip hop goes up against
various structures, glorifying the lives of mobsters over a significant time span such as Al Capone,
John Gotti, and Bugsy Siegel. The American Mafia originated in New York, Chicago, New Orleans,
Detroit, and Philadelphia during the 1920 s. Many generations later, rappers would predominantly be
born from these cities aspiring to get the many benefits of fame, the sudden notoriety and popularity.
Despite the fact that the height of the Mafia s impact was largely found in New York in the 1990 s,
rappers such as Jay Z, Biggie Smalls, and Mase are key examples of rappers who were influenced by
the Mafia in some degree. The 1990 s consisted of other impacts like movies, commercials, news and
a few New York rappers influenced by the long legacy of movies like The Godfather, GoodFellas, and

drastically different viewpoints to their readers regarding the same topic. A viewpoint, which can be
defined as a way of thinking and speaking about a specific topic, is expressed in an article per how the
author determines, based on opinion or selected facts (Mayfield, 2014, p.201 202). Opinions are

government programs, like Social Security and Medicare, and how there have been multiple reforms
within these programs, too (Hacker, 2016). The article s viewpoint is that the Affordable Care Act will
need reform to make it work, but that change will make it successful (Hacker, 2016). At the same
time, the article links that success to a Democratic president winning the nomination, as a Republican
president will cause it to fail, according to the magazine (Hacker, 2016). The end result is a
publication whose stance is that the Affordable Care Act is a program that should be successful under

Blood As An Image In Macbeth Essay
Shakespeare uses the symbol of blood in MacBeth to represent treason, guilt, murder and death. These
ideas are constant throughout the book. There are many examples of blood representing these three
ideas in the book.
Blood is mentioned throughout the play and mainly in reference to murder or treason. The first
reference to blood is in MacBeth s soliloquy in Act 2, Scene 1, Lines 33 61, when Macbeth sees the
bloody dagger floating in the air before him. Also in this soliloquy on line 46 he sees quot;on thy
blade and dudgeon gouts of blood quot;, this means that there is blood on the handle and spots of
blood on the handle. This is implying that the dagger was viciously and maliciously used on someone.
Shakespeare most likely put this in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again, blood is being used to describe treason, murder and death.
Act 5, Scene 1 is the famous sleepwalking scene. While Lady MacBeth is sleepwalking she makes
many references to the evil deeds that Macbeth and herself have committed, most of which include
references to blood. In Act 5, Scene 1, Line 31, She goes through the motions of washing her hands
saying quot;Out damned spot! Out, I say quot; in reference to the blood that stained her hands after
smearing it all over the servants after assisting MacBeth in the treasonous murder of MacBeth. This
also represents her guilt of the murder. In Act 5, Scene 1, Line 38 she makes another reference to the
guilt saying, quot; What, will these hands ne er be clean? quot; The last reference she makes to the
blood being on her hands representing her guilt is in Act 5, Scene 1, Lines 44 45, quot; Here s the smell
of the blood still. All the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this hand. quot; All these references are
to murder, death, treason, and guilt.
Throughout the play, Shakespeare effectively conveys theme of death, murder, treason, and guilt
through the symbol of blood. Normally, the word blood makes us think about injury and being an
essential part of life. The symbol of blood was

Going Back to College as a Single Mom Essay
Going back to college after you have been out of school for quite a few years, had three children, been
married, and divorced is a lot harder than I ever imagined. It takes hard work, dedication, and missing
out on the little things previously taken for granted. I miss taking naps the most. I believe if you can
tough it out through the worst days, you can finish school and provide a better life for your children
and yourself. You need a lot of willpower and a large sense of humor. Set your alarm at least an hour
before you really need to get out of the bed. If you set the alarm for an earlier hour you get to hit the
snooze button few extra times. After the third hit, you should have awakened enough to actually rise

the driveway send the kids on their way. Remember that standing outside in your pajamas and waving
until the bus is out of sight does not embarrass your children. These actions show them how much you

The Many Forms of Hate Crimes Essay
The Many Forms of Hate Crimes
The issue of hate crimes has greatly affected the way in which people interact. A hate crime is defined
as any act of violence or verbal slashing of a person based upon race, religious belief, or one s
sexuality. There are several other grounds for determining a hate crime depending upon guidelines in
written laws. Hate crimes are said to have originally derived from the unjust treatment of Jewish
cultures during the Holocaust in World War II. Slavery of African Americans in the early to mid 1900s
has also been deemed a cause of hate crimes. The issue of hate has completely engulfed the media
with questions and proposed answers on how and why some of these ungodly acts could have taken

Religious Tolerance In New England
Political tension and a religious crisis presented a need for a re establishing of a society in New
England where religious tolerance could sustain order and harmony in the colonies. This wasn t
exactly a foolproof plan as they thought it out to be, because of the recurring oppression they had seen
in Europe. Puritans were a sect of christianity, one that James I was seeking to purge out of Europe
during the reformation, that followed the almost brutal ideals of John Calvin. There was two branches:
Presbyterian and Congregationalist. They believed in predestination, deplored the hierarchy of the
Church, and allowed pleasures some would find odd for a religious group. The pilgrims (also called

How Philanthropy Is Morally Acceptable For Organizations...
Philanthropy is the desire of people, on their own accord, to promote a charity either by giving their
time, money, or talent. Philanthropy fills a big gap that the government either can t or won t provide.
However, does this necessity come with responsibilities? Is it mandatory for us to be active in
philanthropy and if it is, what type of charities is morally acceptable for donors to give money? Or to
Sandel s points in What Money Can t Buy, will bringing money into the situation have more negative
effects than positive?
One of the social purposes of philanthropy is to allow individuals to express their values. If people
value education, then they can give free tutoring to their local schools. If they are worried about the
literacy rate of their city, then they can raise money to provide the proper resources to raise the literacy
rate. If people value education, health, or arts they are able to give and invest their money to that area.
Philanthropy is also seen in many ways as a social good. Hence, it is logical that private sectors use
philanthropy to act in public ways. It shows their values and it shows that they are made of people that
care about the community. For example, when the oil spill happened in the Gulf of Mexico
dishwashing soaps would donate money if people bought their products and would show commercials
of their teams cleaning up animals from the oil spill. It was the dishwasher s brand way of saying that
they wanted to help the animals harmed by

Why Is Ice Hockey Important To You Essay
The extracurricular activity that is most important to me is ice hockey. I have spent the past 7 years of
my life playing, improving, and learning. It has given me so many opportunities to learn to be a leader,
and to learn how to use communication skills. I think that ice hockey not only teaches you to be a
better person, teammate, and athlete, but that it teaches skills like making quick decisions and trusting
people around you. Hockey is a team sport, so the only way to truly be at your best is to play as a
team. These team skills are then reflected in your real life when working in groups or in teams on

Shotcrete process is carried out either by these two processes: a) Wet process b) Dry process
a) Wet process: In the wet process mixture of cement and aggregate premixed with water and the
pump pushes the mixture through the hose and nozzle. Compressed air is introduced at nozzle to
increase the velocity of application.
b) Dry process: In dry mix process, compressed air propels premixed mortar and damp aggregate and
at the nozzle end water is added through a separate hose. The dry mix and water through the second
hose are projected on to a prepared surface.
Surface preparation before shotcreting involves a thorough cleaning and removing all loose aggregate
and roughening the existing concreting surface for improved bond. Shotcrete frequently has high
shrinkage characteristics and measures to prevent cracks using adequate reinforcement and proper
curing is always necessary. The shotcrete surface can be lift as sprayed which is somewhat rough. If a
smoother surface is required, a thin layer can be sprayed on the hardened shotcrete and then reworked

Analysis Of The Speech Praise Of Eros On Plato Symposium

Analysis of Speeches Given in Praise of Eros on Plato Symposium
Among the ancient Greek philosophers, Plato was one of the greatest. Known for his remarkable
philosophical works, Plato was born into a very prominent Athenian family, and he was expected to
have a proliferous political career, but the political scene at that time made Plato devote himself
instead to his philosophical inquiry, and teaching others about it. His passion for knowledge was
limitless. He founded the Academy around 385 B.C., a very important educational institution that has
served as prototype of the Western University System until today.
Plato was one the Socrates greatest admirers. Socrates was a brilliant Greek philosopher at that time,
whose philosophical works stand at the foundation of modern Western philosophy. Unfortunately, he
never recorded his works. Nevertheless, most of our current knowledge about Socrates stems from
Plato s work. We find Plato s thought mostly in the form of fictional dialogues, a very common
literary style in ancient Greece. Most of these dialogues have Socrates as the protagonist, and primary
interlocutor. Plato uses Socrates as a mouthpiece of his own views, and philosophical ideals.
Undoubtedly, one of the most known Plato s dialogues was Symposium. The word symposium itself
means drinking together, or in other words, a drinking party

BC (Carr, 2015). Since then ceramics have significantly evolved, and the pots created today can be
described as interesting and unique masterpieces. An example of one of these masterpieces is Sassy

The spout has been placed high on the teapot, and creates the illusion of an implied line to the top of

handle forms the other arm. It had also been cleverly created to look like a branch growing from the
body of the pot with organic curves and angles. The lid of the teapot is slightly raised by a thick neck
of the teapot, and has a branch growing from it to form a convenient handle. The base is muck thicker
than the body to give it a very sturdy and well built appearance. It also seems to be slightly hollowed

The moldable mind once filled with practical applications will understand the lessons taught by the

literature explored the two sides of the adventure stories. Boys Stories, Adventure Stories, were

In The Curious Incident of a Dog in the Nighttime, word choice was simple (English wasn t his

since it took him more time to process information. Christopher always seemed to be writing
information that would seem to be common sense to others. For example, in Chapter 11 Christopher
wrote Then the police arrived. I like the police. They have uniforms and numbers and you know what
they are meant to be doing.
Since Christopher was a huge fan of Sherlock Homes and solving crimes, I wrote the entire book in a
mysterious mood and tone. The whole book starts and always seems to tie back to the crime scene

Technology Is An Ever Advancing Science
Technology is an ever advancing science. Throughout time and history, it has progressed from the
most primitive mechanisms to the most computerized mechanics. It has been stomping on an ever
progressing march, from which an end to it would require special instruments to see even the tiniest
glimpse of. However, as the species behind such advancing technology, we must be careful with it or
dire consequences lie in store. It is not exactly certain what kind of consequences would actually occur
should we grow reckless with its power, but many scenarios have been imagined. However, if
something were to go wrong and technology would be free from our reign, what would it do next?
Without technology, where would man go? And without mankind, what would technology do?
Mankind and technology are dependent on each other, in a relationship where one would be lost
without the other. This necessary relationship is explored in Brian Aldiss Who Could Replace Man? c.

The Economy Of Spain And Spain
The economy of Spain has taken a downturn in 2011 since the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
Unlike the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, where Spain was a global empire, modern Spain is facing
a very stagnant economy. Spain s unemployment rate reached a record of 27 percent in 2011. This
shows that more than 1 in 5 Spaniards is struggling to feed their family. Luckily, things had gotten
better. The October 2015 unemployment report shows that the number of those who are not working is
down to 21.2 percent according to Spain s unemployment falls, and Rajoy s prospects Rise by Raphael
Minder. The increase in jobs was mostly seasonal; and created only by tourist s influence in Spain, not
Spanish leaders (Minder). So the major issue presented by the article is the idea that Spanish leaders
are useless, in terms of creating a sustainable economy for the country. Based on Spain s current
situation, it is clear that Spain s current leaders are not making the economy any better than their
forefathers did a century ago, because a lot of Spaniard are not finding jobs due to the current
economic crisis. Again, only history can explain how a dominant nation such as Spain is now back to

Gertrude as an Innocent Victim or a Sexually and Morally Corrupt Woman in Hamlet
Shakespeare s character Gertrude is one of much mystery; in relation to this there are many questions
that need to be answered to establish Gertrude s innocence through out the play. Some examples of
these questions are, was Gertrude in some kind of relationship with Claudius before the murder of her
late Husband and did she know about the murder before or after it was committed? Does she love
Claudius or is it just her status that she is protecting? And did she ever love the late King Hamlet?

Although she tells Hamlet this there is nothing to suggest that she has any guilty knowledge about the
late King s death or that she, herself, is missing him and grieving as well.
There is no solid evidence in the beginning to suggest that she really loves Claudius, but this changes
through out the play. This is shown when Laertes comes to attack Claudius. At first Gertrude restrains
him, saying calmly, good Laertes then she goes on to defend Claudius by revealing that it was not the
king that killed Polonious But not by him Act 4, Scene 5. It is evident that she depends on Claudius.
This is shown when she faces unwanted confrontation and she immediately runs straight to Claudius,
this is shown after she talks to Hamlet in the closet scene and she seems dependant on the men in her
life. However this also works the other way round as we see that Claudius is slightly dependant on
Gertrude s advice as he seems to ask her for advice Do you think tis this Act 2 Scene 2, but although
this is the case she is not included in major decisions.
As a character there is a great deal emphasis on her relationship with Hamlet, it is evident that she
loves her son very dearly; she seems particularly concerned when she learns of Hamlets madness. This
could be explained in likeness of a mothers concern but it is also arguable that she has no knowledge
that the madness is pretence; this

determining if you re in an abusive relationship. They are a real thing, take it from someone who
knows. So what can you do if you are in one? 1. Get out of it. As fast and as soon as possible, the
scary thing about emotionally abusive relationships is they eventually turn into physically abusive
relationships. 2. Cut them off, block them on everything, move out, get rid of their stuff, and do not

  • 3. Why The Rich Are Getting Richer Many people wonder in the world, why are the rich getting richer ? Which is a very important question. Over countless years, the wealthy have found many ways around taxes like loopholes and tax deductions. Meanwhile, the lower class are left lost and clueless to any sort of tips around taxes and leaves them in turmoil. In Reich s Why the Rich are Getting Richer he goes on and explains just that, why are the rich getting richer. The economic difficulties that have been circulating in America have been making it challenging for people to pay their taxes, while only two percent of the Americans are sitting on their high horse sponging up all their money. America is the way it is because society doesn t sit down and take in that the wealthy are only getting richer while the poor or people in poverty struggle to just keep up with their bills. One of the biggest things in the United States is social security. It has put many people in trouble and I don t get why the rich are getting it after they retire. Through the world we have always struggled with people not getting paid enough or people getting paid to much. Most of the people are getting paid far less than what they should. Through this essay I am going to give you information about social security and the effects it has had on lives of people, including the rich. • 4. Migration from Sudan into the United States Essay Migration from Sudan into the United States In recent years the US has experienced a large influx of migration. Immigrants come from many different countries, races, religions and for many different reasons. One group of immigrants that received national attention is a group from Sudan that has been called The Lost Boys . The reason behind the national attention is due to the dramatic circumstances that brought them to America. To understand these circumstances it is important to understand their history. Sudan is the largest country in Africa. It is between two powerful cultural regions, the Islamic north and the Christian south. Africa has more than 400 languages and dialects. There are 597 different ethnic groups with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This Law seriously violated the 1972 peace agreement, forcing the south to adopt Arab culture, language and the religion of Islam. The Nimeiry government was strengthening Sudan s ties to Egypt and Saudi Arabia, as economic hardships drew it away from the Soviet Union and closer to western nations. During the 1980 s, strikes, riots and shortages of goods and services had devastated the nation. The discovery of natural resources, such as minerals and petroleum that were discovered in the south added to the problem. Although the discovery of natural reserves should have helped Sudan s economic situation, it became another source of conflict between the north and the south over who would control it. The southern forces backed indirectly by the Soviet Union through Ethiopia reorganized into the Sudan Peoples Liberation Army and rose up against the North. At this point in the civil unrest, the war took on a religious aspect, fueled by Nimeiry s implementation of the Sharia, which is Islamic law. In 1986 a coup forced Nimeiry out of power and he was replaced by a coalition of northern political parties. On 1989 a northern coalition was overthrown by General Omar al Bashir and Hasan al Tarabi, a fundamentalist leader of the National Islamic Front. Sudan was turned into an Islamic dictatorship outlawing all other political parties except the National Islamic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. How Much Attention And Nurturing Children Receive How much attention and nurturing children receive does, in fact, affect how they will develop as adolescents and adults in areas of personality, emotion, and social interaction. John Bowlby, a British researcher, a child psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, is well known in Psychology for his research specializing in parent or primary caregiver child relationships. His research influenced Mary Ainsworth who later became his research assistant and continued his research on attachment after his death. Being neglected as a child by parents and caregivers, he understood the negative effects of growing up lonely and detached. John Bowlby founded the attachment theory, an essential theory in Psychology that reveals the negative impact of neglect and is now used as a reference to understand its effects. The theory is an important advance in Developmental Psychology because children were now viewed as vulnerable and need the care to develop to their full potential development. Therefore, methods of how to understand and interact with the victims of neglect were needed for professionals in the fields of medicine, law, and education. Being born into an upper class family in the 20th century, John Bowlby was a prime example of a victim of neglect. Upper class families often left their children to caregivers and seldom interacted with them, similar to Bowlby s case. • 6. The Major Impact Of The Mexican-American War Introduction The conflict that started in 25th April 1846 up to 2nd February 1848 between America and Mexico was termed as the Mexican American War and had a significant to both nations. The reason for the commencement of the war was due to Manifest Destiny, a populist belief that Americans had a divine right to the land and so enjoyed the freedom to expand their borders towards the Pacific Ocean. The conflict, which was due to the exact position to place the border for each country affected mainly the natives. Although both countries actively participated in the war, there were individuals in America who were against it among them being Henry David Thoreau, an American writer and philosopher. Those against the war claimed that the United States actions in the war were unethical. Thesis: The close to two year long Mexican American war had a major impact to both countries as it affected the natives by redefining their rights and responsibilities when Mexico lost much of its land to the US. After the fall of Mexico City, peace negotiations began when the Mexican government surrendered. On 2nd February 1848, there was signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo by Mexico bringing the war to an end (Cukwurah, 60). In the treaty, 525000 miles were added to the US territory as Mexico stopped its claim on Texas. Rio Grande became officially the US Mexico border while the US had to pay $15 million to Mexico. The treaty helped in stopping Mexican causalities that were increasing at an alarming rate. Whereas many Americans view the conflict as just war, many Mexicans feel that the war was an American invasion of their land. • 7. Emily In Emily Faulkner s A Rose For Emily A Rose for Emily illustrate love, disappointment of life, grief, death, and rejection that Emily has received throughout her life; as a young woman in her time. Emily is not able to be herself in an era where women had an important role in society. She was expected to be the one person that the town wanted. She was expected to be proper, outstanding, and punctual. She wanted to be herself and not have someone always looking over her shoulder. So throughout the story the town people whisper about her in the hopes it wouldn t get back to her. The narrators of this story are from the perspective of how they see her. Emily is different in a time when difference is not ratified or accepted. When Emily finally passed away all of the town went to her funeral, which was held in her home. The last type of star home for the period of time. It was a big, squarish frame house that had once been white, decorated with cupolas and spires and scrolled balconies in the heavily lightsome style of the seventies. (Faulkner 861). No one had been in her house, besides the old man servant that would take care of her, for 10 years. After Emily s Father died she received notifications of her past due balances to pay her taxes. She never left the house and when the mayor and aldermen, or the younger generation, came over to see her in her home she was surprised to see them because she lived in isolation for 10 years after her father died. • 9. How Sexuality is Socially Constructed Essay From birth, one s sexuality is shaped by society. Cultures institute behaviors that are to be seen as the societal norms, which work to constantly reinforce societal expectations of how genders should act in relation to one another. Although some may argue that one s sexuality is an innate characteristic resulting from genetic makeup, there is a large amount of evidence pointing to its social construction instead. Through the power differences between males and females, established gender roles, and drastic economic shifts, society establishes sexuality and reinforces the behaviors that are expected of its citizens. As Tamsin Wilton explains in her piece, Which One s the Man? The Heterosexualisation of Lesbian Sex, society has fronted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wilton later describes how, by turning away from the heterosexual male female institution, women are taking a crucial step on the path of liberation. Although a woman may be content having relations with a male, the male s dominant role in society should be enough persuasion for the former to leave such structured relationship so as to explore a freer partnership that goes against societal expectations. Wilton refers to Monique Wittig, a French author and feminist theorist, who states our survival demands that we contribute all our strength to the destruction of the class of women within which men appropriate women. Thus, Wittig expresses that heterosexuality is a social system (Wilton 165). Why heterosexuality is forced upon the majority, however, is still unclear. Emily Martin, in her article, The Egg and the Sperm: How Science has Constructed a Romance Based on Stereotypical Male Female Roles, explains why this is so. Procreation can only occur upon the union of sperm and egg and their behaviors have created stereotypes which imply not only that female biological processes are less worthy than their male counterparts but also that women ... This region locates itself on the islands of Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and a bit of Quebec, with Moncton and Halifax as some of its major cities. The rocks, most of which are mostly sedimentary, were changed drastically when Europe and North America collided, causing its geography to be uneven, with many jagged peaks. Forestry, agriculture, fishing, tourism, coal mining, logging, and manufacturing are their main industries.Their overall population lands at a bit more than 25 million. Some interesting facts are that they have the oldest mountains and the richest fishing. Canadian Shield Despite covering 5 million km squared of land (over 50 percent) it does not have ideal soil for crops while having the richest area for mining. The Canadian Shield occupies most of Quebec, much of Ontario, Nunavut, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories and a small portion of Alberta. My mom s side of the family arrived in the United States in the late 1800 s. Both of my grandmother and grandfather s families came to the United States voluntarily. My grandmother s family came from England. Her grandfather, who came from an affluent family, first arrived in Ellis Island, New York, but later settled in the Maryland Eastern Shore. I will compare and contrast the paintings of this era, Houses at Auvers by Vincent van Gogh, Goldfish by Henri Matisse, and Mont Sainte Victoire by Paul Cézanne. The work of art Houses at Auvers by Vincent van Gogh was made after he left the asylum at Saint Rémy de Provence. He admitted himself there because he was very sad and before he arrived he cut off his ear and gave it to a prostitute as a gift. He only resided there for a short amount of time (the end of 1888 1890) because he became bored. As a result, he moved to Auvers sur Oise, northwest of Paris. There, he painted Houses at Auvers in June of 1890 which was one of several works of art made before his suicide in the same year. Houses at Auvers depicts a landscape of early summer in Auvers sur Oise. It s medium, like most paintings in this era, is oil on canvas. • 26. How Philanthropy Is Morally Acceptable For Organizations... Philanthropy is the desire of people, on their own accord, to promote a charity either by giving their time, money, or talent. Philanthropy fills a big gap that the government either can t or won t provide. However, does this necessity come with responsibilities? Is it mandatory for us to be active in philanthropy and if it is, what type of charities is morally acceptable for donors to give money? Or to Sandel s points in What Money Can t Buy, will bringing money into the situation have more negative effects than positive? One of the social purposes of philanthropy is to allow individuals to express their values. If people value education, then they can give free tutoring to their local schools. If they are worried about the literacy rate of their city, then they can raise money to provide the proper resources to raise the literacy rate. If people value education, health, or arts they are able to give and invest their money to that area. Philanthropy is also seen in many ways as a social good. Hence, it is logical that private sectors use philanthropy to act in public ways. It shows their values and it shows that they are made of people that care about the community. • 28. Why Is Ice Hockey Important To You Essay The extracurricular activity that is most important to me is ice hockey. I have spent the past 7 years of my life playing, improving, and learning. It has given me so many opportunities to learn to be a leader, and to learn how to use communication skills. I think that ice hockey not only teaches you to be a better person, teammate, and athlete, but that it teaches skills like making quick decisions and trusting people around you. Hockey is a team sport, so the only way to truly be at your best is to play as a team. These team skills are then reflected in your real life when working in groups or in teams on projects. Hockey also gives you a basis to learn to communicate well with the people you are working with making it an extremely useful skill. Furthermore, in hockey each small decision can ... This past summer though, she moved back to Germany. I still text her on a regular basis despite our age difference. She made the U15 German National Team as an 11 year old. Being a part of her growth made me so proud to be involved in the sport. It isn t always planned the friends you make but it is so worth it. Another thing that I have learned from hockey is how to control my emotions. Hockey is an emotional game making it often a challenge. When someone hits you, you want to retaliate, but its funny how the refs alway see the retaliation and never the inviting action. This means that to be the best, you have to be able to control your emotions. I have always seen myself as a big physical player, so even on a clean hit, I sometimes get ... Tittle: Analysis of Speeches Given in Praise of Eros on Plato Symposium Among the ancient Greek philosophers, Plato was one of the greatest. Known for his remarkable philosophical works, Plato was born into a very prominent Athenian family, and he was expected to have a proliferous political career, but the political scene at that time made Plato devote himself instead to his philosophical inquiry, and teaching others about it. His passion for knowledge was limitless. He founded the Academy around 385 B.C., a very important educational institution that has served as prototype of the Western University System until today. Plato was one the Socrates greatest admirers. Socrates was a brilliant Greek philosopher at that time, whose philosophical works stand at the foundation of modern Western philosophy. Unfortunately, he never recorded his works. Nevertheless, most of our current knowledge about Socrates stems from Plato s work. We find Plato s thought mostly in the form of fictional dialogues, a very common literary style in ancient Greece. Most of these dialogues have Socrates as the protagonist, and primary interlocutor. Plato uses Socrates as a mouthpiece of his own views, and philosophical ideals. Undoubtedly, one of the most known Plato s dialogues was Symposium.
