What Is The Difference Between The Lewis And Clark Expedition
The Lewis and Clark expedition was led by William Clark and Meriwether lewis (Thus the name
of the expedition).Under Thomas Jefferson the expedition kicked off. It began on May 14, 1804
and came to a conclusion on September 26, 1806. The objective of the expedition was to reach the
northwest and other regions beyond. Lewis kept a journal describing all his findings and
surveillances. The expedition became very difficult and resources became scarce as the expedition
carried on. Without knowledge of their surroundings they often found themselves lost without a
clue of their whereabouts. On their long grueling journey they met two shoshone indians, Toussaint
Charbonneau and his wife Sacagawea. From there on they expedition began to run much more

Effects Of The Tweed Ring Scandal
The Tweed Ring Scandal The Tweed Ring scandal in New York began with William Boss
Tweed. William is remembered for patronizing of his Tammany Hall political machine. He used
it to gain massive sums of money during the Reconstruction. It was unfair, disguised, and very
illegal. All of the cash he made was dirty and not legal, yet he managed to get away with this
scheme from 1856 all the way until 1873. William was born in 1823, and by the time he was
twenty eight years old, he was already in a position of power. He was the city alderman and was
able to lock down other powerful office positions. He knew many people and was friendly, just to
get to the top. He was elected to one term in Congress and grew his influence in the city... Show

The city finally began to realize the amount of finances William had drained and collected for
himself and worked together to get him fined and arrrested. He was able to avoid it a few times,
but was eventually charged and arrested in 1873. He was in jail for two years, but was arrested
yet again after being released. He was confined for the rest of his life, where he died in his jail
cell from severe pneumonia. The Credit Mobilier Scandal The Credit Mobilier Scandal was a
scandal that completely shattered the careers of several Gilded Age politicians. The group was
formed when some major stockholders in the Union Pacific Railroad formed their own company,
the CrГ©dit Mobilier of America. They used it to give and sign contracts with wealthy
businessmen that stated they would help fund the building of the new railroads. They also signed
some with influential congressmen. These contracts were not good deals for the congressmen and
businessmen. They didn t pay too much attention to the small wording of the contracts, that stated
in helping fund the railroads, they would really be funding the railroad builders and making them
rich from the deals. While the contracts seemed to be helping out the railroads, it was really a plot
to make the builders, organizers, and overseers rich. There was no good intention in the scandal and
just left many people without any money or

How Did Leif Erickson Influence The American Revolution
America was first discovered in 1492 by Christopher Columbus, while he was searching for a new
trade route to India. Leif Erickson was the first European to visit the new world before Christopher
Columbus was born, however he wasn t recognized as the discoverer of the new world. John Cabot
reached the coast of America in 1497 and he thought that North America was China, like Columbus,
so he claimed the land for England. The American Revolutionwas a political disruption that took
place between 1765 and 1783 which colonists in the thirteen American colonies rejected the British
monarchy and defeated Great Britain and created the United Statesof America. The declaration of
independence, for the thirteen colonies, on July fourth 1776.

Some important people in the history of America are William McKinley, he asked the congress
to declare a war on Spain because he feared that the public opinion would turn against him. John
Hay, was President McKinley s secretary of state, he drafted open door notes requesting the
world powers respect free trade in Asia and China s territorial status. Theodore Roosevelt, was
the twenty sixth U.S president after McKinley s assassination, he adopted aggressive foreign
policy and asserted American influence and power in the western hemisphere. The Louisiana
was purchased by President Thomas Jefferson from France and doubled the size of America in
1803. In 1819 Spain gave up Florida to the United States. Also, the treaty with Great Britain gave
the Unite States a part of the Oregon territory. The U.S annexed Texas in 1845. And in the
Gadsden Purchase, America gained California and a huge area in the Southwest. Some of the
wars that America was involved in are, the second war for independence in 1812 with Britain. In
1846 America was in war with Mexico in the American Mexican war. During the Spanish American
war in 1898, Spain s colonial empire ended

Stereotyping Is A Natural Instinct That Humans
Historically, humans have always been separated into groups based on appearance, whether that is
concerning body shape, the clothes we wear, or the color of our skin. Stereotyping is a natural
instinct that humans have because they feel the need to classify people in order to not feel
threatened by them. Humans feel an obligation to know and understand people but do not
necessarily want to be associated with them, thus they place people into specific groups, labeling
them. One of the primary ways that we stereotype people is by their race. Being a minority that has
always been prejudiced against in America, African Americans are often judged because of the way
that they speak. Black students have struggled in academic settings that use Standard English, such
as in the common American classroom. African AmericanVernacular English (AAVE) harms Black
students through discrimination on standardized tests and in classroom environments.
AAVE is a variation of what is commonly referred to as Standard English, and is predominantly
spoken by African American communities across the United States. Unlike many other variations
of English, AAVE is not regional so African Americans speak more or less the same way all across
the country. These sociolinguistic parallels are because African Americans are oriented to a sense
of ethnic solidarity and nation wide cohesiveness due to their extensive history of fighting in unity
for the same victories (Fought, 2003). The possibility that AAVE

Battle Royale Analysis
When Battle Royale first made its debut to the world, there were already concerns from the
government and parents about its effects on teenagers. Despite the Motion Picture Code Committee
restricting admission to anyone under sixteen, teenagers still camped out for two days to see the
opening screening (G. Sparks and C. Sparks 269). The film was controversial for its extreme
violence, but the reactions of the adults to try and control their children tellingly echoed the conflict
within the film itself, something its director had purposefully highlighted. Kinji Fukasaku used
props throughout his film to represent the challenging relationships between the older and younger
generations of Japan. Based in real life encounters and the failings of the Japanese school system,
Fukasaku brought the conflicts between the government, parents, teachers, and students to the
screen in a darkly humorous bloodbath.
Authority Figures versus Children
To better understand Fukasaku s approach to his film, it will help to examine his own childhood.
As a young teenager, Fukasaku grew up in a country plagued by the horrors of World War II:
His class was drafted into the war effort, and they found themselves working in a munitions
factory. [...] The classmates were caught in a barrage of artillery fire. [...] The survivors of the
attack used the corpses of their friends as cover and, after the violence has passed, Fukasaku and
his surviving friends were given the task of disposing of the body parts

Energy Flow Among Organisms of a Food Chain in the Desert...
Corinne N Bryant
May 2, 2013
University of Phoenix
The lives of the organisms in the desert require a substantial amount of survival skills. The
temperature in a desert biome is always very high and it does not rain very often so it is also
extremely dry. Any organisms that live in the desert must be able to adapt to these conditions in
order to live. For example, one organism that can be found in the desert is cacti. Cacti roots are
closer to the surface than other plants so it is able to drink the rain water. They also have think
skins which are a protection from the heat along with the fact that its stems grow upward instead of
outward protecting it from the sun (Big Site of Amazing Facts, 2013). The cactus is also an expert

In the desert biome, no organism would be able to survive without another organism. Their
interactions are constant. Plants provide shelter and food for animals and animals help to
pollinate and grow flowers (Bailey, 1999). One example of the interactions of organisms in the
desert is between birds and other small animals and the cactus. Desert birds and animals that are
small enough to navigate between cacti sharp needles use the cactus for shelter and for water.
Another example would be how bats spread pollen from one part of a cactus to another part
which helps the cactus grow flowers. The Joshua tree makes fruit in which animals eat, too. These
are all examples of how organisms in the desert interact with each other. Although animals living
in the desert have had to evolve in order to adapt to the desert conditions, those conditions are very
fragile. The desert may be a hard place for non natives to survive, but the desert s ecosystem is very
sensitive and not easy to regenerate. Development, off highway vehicle use, livestock overgrazing,
construction of roads and utilities, military training exercises, air pollution and the spread of non
native plant species have seriously altered the desert ecosystem over the last century (Barton, 1999).
These are the hazards by humans that are directly affecting the ecosystem in the desert. According
to Barton (1999) the off highway vehicle use, construction, overgrazing, and military usage
damages the desert s

Technology And The Pursuit Of Reaching Our Goal
Powerlifters, but more specifically women who train and compete in the United States, use many
forms of technology in the pursuit of reaching our goal. As a female powerlifter residing in the
United States I have been to numerous competitions and have had the opportunity to meet many
others who belong to the same demographic. Therefore, I can testify that my goal is similar to that
of the entire group. Our fundamental goal is to lift the most weight on the squat, bench press,
deadlift, and the combined total of these three lifts. In order to reach that goal we utilize many
forms of technology. I have categorized these forms of technology into three sections: technology
within equipment, technology for safety, and technology for information/improvement. Though
there are other forms of technology utilized, these categories cover the majority of technology we
commonly employ. Ultimately, the technology we use makes it easier for female powerlifters, like
myself, who compete in the United States to reach our goal of lifting the most amount of weight on
our three lifts because it allows us to lift without being limited by the amount of weight equipment
can hold, without injury, and with information necessary for improvement. Let us begin our
discussion on how technology is employed in a powerlifter s day to day activities by looking at the
technology within the equipment category. For starters, we lift weight on barbells designed
specifically for powerlifting. The tensile

Athlete Dying Young
Analysis of To an Athlete Dying Young by A.E. Housman To an Athlete Dying Young, the title, the
cover to the book, is quick to attract the eyes of a person with an athletic interest. However, beneath
the title lies a poem that possess many components of a masterpiece that ultimately attracts many
more than the previously stated group of human beings. The man behind the masterpiece, A.E.
Housman was born in March of 1859. Growing up in England, Housman s education was the least
questionable attribute about him. It was his strive for a greater knowledge that led him to seek
more and ultimately the composition of the masterpiece of To an Athlete Dying Young, which is a

In Merriam Webster s Encyclopedia of Literature, the athlete in the poem will now never experience
the fading of that glory and human beings can count on neither earthly happiness nor immortality (
To an Athlete Dying Young ). In the poem, the poet involuntary constantly demands for the reader s
emotion while simultaneously showing apathy to the death of the young athlete. By the poet s
reasoning, there is no sense in lamenting the young man s death, because he has not lived to see
his records broken and will go to his grave a champion ( Explanation of: To an Athlete Dying
Young by A.E. Housman ) claims an unknown author. Proving the lack of emotion Housman has in
the poem, an unknown author gives an explanation. Apart of the ironic theme that the death of the
young athlete is celebrated, not grieved over, the lack of apathy Housman shows signifies the
reason why there is no, lamenting. The poet sees the event as a celebratory moment because unlike
other athletes who live to see their records broken, the athlete who dies young will never have to
see the fate. The young athlete dies at the peak and does not have to experience the fall. The final
device Housman uses in To an Athlete Dying Young is the tone throughout the poem. The tone that
adds the ironic theme is composed of

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Adhd, Depression, And Anxiety
Discussion
This study examined whether SCT symptoms are significantly associated with poor study skills
and EF deficits in college students over and above demographics and symptoms of ADHD,
depression, and anxiety. This study also examined whether deficits in EF mediate the association
between symptoms of SCT and poor study skills over and above demographics and symptoms of
ADHD, depression, and anxiety. The current study adds to extant research regarding SCT in a
number of ways. This is the first study to examine SCT in relation to the component aspects of
academic functioning, such as learning and study skills, in a college student sample. Furthermore,
two recent studies have found SCT to be significantly related to college students ... Show more

Specifically, and as hypothesized, SCT symptoms were significantly associated with poorer study
skills, and the associations between SCT and the affective learning strategy and goal strategy
components of study skills remained significant even after controlling for symptoms of ADHD,
depression, and anxiety. Of note, the association between ADHD inattention and study skills was
either greatly reduced (affective strategies) or reduced to nonsignificance (goal strategies) when
SCT was added to the regression models. SCT is characterized by daydreaming, mental confusion,
low motivation, and slowed thinking which may possibly explain the association between SCT and
poor affective learning (which includes attitudes towards school success, time management, and
concentration) and goal strategies (which includes academic anxiety, use of homework and test
taking strategies, and being able to distill the most critical or important information when learning).
Interestingly, SCT was much less strongly correlated with comprehension monitoring strategies (r =
.22) than with either affective learning or goal strategies (rs = .65 and .63, respectively), and SCT
was no longer significantly associated with comprehension monitoring strategies in the initial
regression analysis that controlled for demographics and other psychopathology symptoms. The
comprehension monitoring strategies domain of the

The Christian Worldview
The Christian Worldview is very widely known in today s society. This religion has many strong
beliefs about the creation of the world and what waits for believers in the afterlife. Psalms
111:10 gives a good idea of the foundation of the Christian worldview by saying. The fear of the
Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him
belongs eternal praise. (New International Version). The Christian worldview has very specific
beliefs and expectations in God, humanity, Jesus and Restoration. According to the Christian
Worldview, God is to be feared, known, and loved as the sovereign creator whom all should glory,
honor, and praise. God is believed to have many characteristics, included but not limited to being
unchanging, all powerful, all knowing, good, loving, jealous, faithful, and holy. These
characteristics are believed to be true because they are seen through his eternal nature,, his
omnipotence and his goodness (DiVincenzo, 2014). In Romans 1:20, the Holy Biblesays, For his
invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, aver
since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. God is also the first person in the
Trinity, the belief that there is one God who exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
(Kilby, 2011). Another belief of the Christian worldview is that God is the creator of all things;
however, distinct from his creation. The first

What Is The Simplified Workflow For Nucidic Acid Isolation...
3.3.8.Simplified Workflow for Nucleic Acid Isolation from Captured Cells An important aspect
for cell capture devices is the ability to easily access cells and nucleic acids for downstream
analysis (e.g. clonal expansion, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), gene expression, and
sequencing) to determine the type of primary tumor and monitor disease progression [130, 131].
Microfluidic cell capture approaches are typically formed by permanently bonding the channel
network to the capture surface, and access to the captured cells and nucleic acids is only possible
by flowing fluid through the channel. With the magnetic latching used in SEAM, the channel and
the surface can be quickly decoupled to provide open access to the captured... Show more content

(b) Cell lysis with direct transfer of captured cells from nanotextured PDMS surface into lysis
buffer. (c) Comparison of nucleic acid extraction efficiency using the two methods. The data is
normalized to the amount of nucleic acid directly extracted from a cell suspension. (*p value
0.05; n = 5). Results showed that approximately twice as much nucleic acid was extracted from
the direct transfer method (1523 В± 225.9 ng, A260/280 = 2.03 В± 0.02) compared to in
channel lysis (647 В± 5.7 ng, A260/280 = 1.99 В± 0.08) with statistically significant differences
(n = 5, p value 0.05). For the normalization of data in Figure 3.10(c) the number of cells
equivalent to the initial cell seeding density was pipetted directly from cell suspension into lysis
buffer. The data are presented as the extraction efficiency with respect to the control. The
extraction efficiency of direct transfer and in channel method was 80% and 35%, respectively. The
purity of the extracted nucleic acid between the methods was comparable, but the direct transfer
method was simple to implement and did not require sample handling or fluid manipulation. The
straight channel used here represented a conservative extraction because more complicated
branched networks can lead to sample losses from dead volumes, external tubing, and large
surface area to volume ratios microfluidic channels. The open cell access enabled by SEAM

Candian Health Care
Canadian health care differs quite drastically from any other country. To begin with Canada s
health care system is built upon the Canada Health Act. The Canada Health Act is federal
legislation that puts in place conditions by which individual provinces and territories in Canada
may receive funding and get health care services.(Canadian Health Care, 2004) This act was put
into place in order to obtain the primary objectives of the Canadian health care policy which is to

Canada has a rather large support for Palliative care. This form of care can take place in several
different settings such as, hospitals, long term care facilities, home or hospice. The care can be
provided by nurses, physicians, social workers, spiritual advisors, trained volunteers, family and
loved ones. (Health Canada, 2010) Once again this form of care is not required under the Canada
Health Act, it is up to the province/territory to determined coverage. Certain provinces/territories
do include this service in their provincial health plans while others include it in provincial home
care budgets or other health service budgets. While it may be covered, many families still carry
a burden of about 25% for caring for their family members at home or at any facility other than a

Textual Analysis Of Wings Of Desire, By Wim Wenders
Wings of Desire Wings of Desire is a German film by director Wim Wenders released in 1987.
The scene I want to focus on for the textual analysis is the scene in which the angel Cassiel
attempts to comfort a suicidal man, but his attempts at comfort fail when the man jumps off of a
building, causing Cassiel to descend into a spiral of grief and anger. The scene starts with a sound
bridge between a shot of birds in flight and a shot of a man sitting on the edge of a building. The
sound of the birds mixes with non diegetic music and the sound of the man s thoughts. The viewers
can hear his thoughts, which is symbolized by his non diegetic stream of consciousness monologue.

Then there are a few interlude shots of Peter Falk, before the montage, which is a maelstrom of
quickly paced short shots. The short, confusing shots serve to disorient the viewer and put them
in the same headspace as Cassiel, who is grieving, as well as to create symbolic meaning. In
between the handheld shots that progress through the city, there are shots of people that are
vulnerable or hurt. There is a shot of a woman lying on a staircase, a shot of a man on a bench,
possibly an index pointing at him being homeless, a fighting couple, a child crying for his mother,
and footage that seems to be from during the war, intercutting with shots of a bird s wings. Bird s
wings are symbolically associated with angels, and these shots intercut with shots of war and
destruction, linking the two together, the angel is the powerless witness of the war. The viewer
understands the shots in the montage to be from the angel s point of view; he is the one who sees
all that pain and carries the burden of comfort. Jump cuts are used as well throughout the montage,
for example in the shot of the women in the staircase, further increasing the sense of frantic
confusion, and an example of poetic rather than practical language, as the information is not

The National Socialist Party And The Downfall Of The...
From the beginning of the National Socialist Party s rise to power to the downfall of the
conquering Nazi regime, the ideology of a racially and biologically superior Germany was a large
motivating force for the actions taken by the regime s leaders and its people. National Socialist
supporters saw the fictitious Aryan raceas the pure, master race of Germany, while minority races
and religions, namely Jews, as well as any subculture that did not follow Nazi ideology or social
norms, were deemed as inferior sub humans. Despite the connection of race superiority between
Aryan men and women, however, women, somewhat similarly to racial minorities, were
perceived as submissive, lesser humans to the Nazi political leaders when compared to the
supposedly influential and flawless Aryan men. Men, according to Nazi ideology, are who make
history and will devote [their] powers towards the victory of Germany and the domination of the
Aryan race over Europe. Yet, for the Aryan race to successfully rule Europe, a new and large
generation of pure Aryan Germans must come into fruition, thus the need for Aryan women s
compliance in bearing many children was essential.
Great importance was placed on the preservation of traditional gender roles, specifically the role as
a mother, and the separation and segregation of the worlds of men and women. Women were
continuously told that they are biologically different from men to rationalize why their worlds,

3.Check the Index usage quite often
Sys.dm_db_index_operational_stats() DMF is quite underutilized tool which can provide a great
information about index usage. By using this DMF tool you may be able to gather all the vital
information required to determine which index is being used and which used to be used next. It
will even let you know various things like time elapsed for processes, latching and locking.
4.Rebuilt the index after SQL server update
It is quite normal for a business to upgrade its SQL server platform from old to a newer one. But
sometimes this upgrade makes the performance of different queries changed. Earlier any query
which used to execute in 30 seconds would now will take 15 minutes. It happens because the
query execution plan is different in each SQL Server version. Furthermore, the sequence of table
nested loops/Inner Joins are also different. Since SQL server works in live environment, so
amending the queries is quite different.

Holocaust Stereotypes
The word Holocaust, from the Greek words holos which means whole and kaustos which means
burns, was previously used to describe a sacrificial offering burned on an altar. Since 1933, this
word has taken on a new, dreadful and awful meaning. The Holocaust was a genocide in which
about 11 million people, including about 6 million Jews were brutally murdered by Adolf Hitlerand
Nazi Germany. It was the systematic and state sponsored mass murder to try to eliminate the Jewish
race completely, known as Hitler s Final Solution. The Holocaustlasted from January 30, 1933 to
May 8, 1945. It primarily took place in Germany, Ukraine, and Latvia yet its lasting impact affected
the whole world. The Holocaust was so important because it forever... Show more content on

The Germans tried to terminate the Jewish race by gassing, open fire shooting, and flaming
them. Adolf Hitler was the mastermind behind the Holocaust. He believed that the Jews were the
source of all the problems Germany was experiencing. In the encyclopedia of the United States
Holocaust Memorial Museum, Hitler and the Germans presented Jews as the source for a variety
of political, social, economic, and ethical problems facing the German people (United States
Holocaust Memorial Museum). The stereotypes formed against the Jews portrayed them as an
alien race that fed off of Germany, poisoned the culture, and seized the economy. The belief that
Jews conspired to harm society formed from Nazi propaganda which soon resulted in violence.
This affected the world because surrounding countries started to view the Jews the same as the
Nazis. In the book, The Holocaust, the author writes of the passing down of the many stereotypes.
He writes, The stereotypes attached to Jews to the centuries were handed down from generation to
generation and were, therefore, familiar to the German people who heard them repeated by Hitler
and his henchman (Bard, Mitchell Geoffrey). This explains the problem of the stereotypes growing
and spreading among generations and even to the rest of the world. The hatred against the Jews
goes hand in hand with the stereotypes and together, they only result in negative outcomes of which

Alexis De Tocqueville, And Max Weber s Analysis
The idea of human freedom is seen in multiple aspects through the eyes of multiple theorists.
Human freedom is an extensive topic because it extends throughout many different aspects of life,
such as politics, religion, and education to name a few. Throughout this paper, I intend to address
the aspects of human freedom as seen through the writings of Emile Durkheim, Alexis de
Tocqueville, and Max Weber. Each theorist presents his own ideas on what human freedom really
is and how it can exist, but they also share a few ideas as well. Durkheim is best known for his
work Suicide in which he discusses the restraints and regulations put on members of society. For
Durkheim, this is where human freedom exists; liberty exists in restraint.... Show more content on

Men tend to cling to equality more than freedom because the advantages are instantaneously
evident, and they think it will last forever. Oppositely, the advantages of freedom are not as
quickly evident, and after all, Western society is all about the now and how quick one can see
results for their efforts. Political liberty requires great exertion while political equality evidences
itself everywhere and is much easier to come by. Because of this, Tocqueville believes that if
men seek equality and freedom and do not find it, they may seek equality in other things, even
things as preposterous as equality in slavery. Democracy is about freedom and equality alike.
Equality, however, is an insatiable desire of men. For Tocqueville, I think the positive outcomes
of freedom need to more quickly evident in order for people to crave it as they do

An Analysis Of Zora Neale Hurston s Trifles By Susan...
In a male dominated society, women were believed to be fragile weaklings that depended on men
in order to survive and find happiness. In fact, they were seen as nothing more than selfless wives
and mothers. The seemingly perfect wife then, was characterized by her dutifulness and obedient
demeanor. This notion of male supremacy was undoubtedly the predominant basis of the nineteenth
and twentieth centuries. Rendered unable to voice their own opinions, women then turned to pen
and paper as a way to communicate their thoughts. From this, arose the following pieces: Kate
Chopin s short story The Story of an Hour, Emily Dickinson s poem She rose to His Requirement

The story takes place during the harsh and relentless winter, serving as a key symbol since Mrs.
Hale describes Mr. Wright as a raw wind that gets to the bone (Glaspell 19). In this sense, the

of her husband has confined Mrs. Wright and created a loneliness that was unbearable, leading her
to eventually murder him.
While Glaspell communicates women s view of marriage through significance of the canary and
setting, Chopin makes use of the symbolism in Mrs. Mallard s room door along with the front
door of her home to illustrate the struggles that women during her time. After news of her

making herself ill. Although she does weep over the death of her husband, Mrs. Mallard was
drinking in a very elixir of life (Chopin 16). The door that divides her and the rest of the
characters represents a separation from her ordinary life and the life that she must keep private.

Comparing the Huxtables with My Family Essay examples
Compating the Huxtables with My Family
Watching a comedy sitcom like The Cosby Show is a great way to unwind from a stressful day at
school. The show s characters are likeable and the storyline is humorous, but halfway through the
program I usually turn the television off and return to the kitchen to wash the dinner dishes.
Watching The Cosby Show makes me feel guilty. The Huxtables are too perfect. Their house is too
perfect. In comparison to the Huxtables I feel like an unfit mother in a slovenly, dysfunctional

If I do happen to be in the kitchen with my kids, I am in a ratty bathrobe, hair half set, and

bathroom. My kids and my husband never discuss their daily plans with me; they enjoy adding a
little suspense to my day.
Another farfetched scene from The Cosby Show is Mr. and Mrs. Huxtable s mediation of sibling
quarrels. When a quarrel begins Mr. and Mrs. Huxtable are usually sitting on the couch with
nothing better to do than anticipate a problem. The children come down and rationally explain the
problem and their side of the story. If there is any name calling, the children use harmless words
like stupid and meanie. Meanwhile Mr. and Mrs. Huxtable serenely listen to each child s point of
view. With infinite patience they wisely mediate a truce with a brilliant compromise acceptable to
both sides. Everyone is happy; the problem is solved.
On the contrary, in my family we do not have quarrels; we have combat situations which erupt at
the most inopportune times such as when I m plunging a toilet and my husband is under his car.

Influence Of Peter The Great
There have been many absolute rulers that ruled societies throughout history. Some of those
rulers that had power would use it to either abuse their power to control everyone and have their
own rules or the rulers would enlighten their power and give the people more privileges. One

Essay about Darwin’s Dangerous Idea
At the beginning of the 1800s, scientists knew of some kinds of fossils, and were very aware of
homologous and vestigial structures. Many scientists suspected that some kind of evolution had
given rise to living things around them. However, they had no theory to explain how evolution
might have occurred. Two scientists led the way in the search for a mechanism of evolution. The
first was Jean Lamarck. The second was one of the greatest figures in biology, Charles Darwin.
What is evolution? Evolution is a change in the traits of living organisms over generations. Since
the development of modern genetics in the 1940s, evolution has been defined more specifically as
a change in the frequency of alleles in a population from one generation... Show more content on

Natural selection, together with the rules of inheritance discovered by Gregor Mendel, stand at the
basis of modern evolutionary biology.
Darwin was the British naturalist who became famous for his theories of evolution and natural
selection. Like several scientists before him, Darwin believed all the life on earth evolved over
millions of years from a few common ancestors. From 1831 to 1836 Darwin served as naturalist
aboard the H.M.S. Beagle on a British science expedition around the world. In South America
Darwin found fossils of extinct animals that were similar to modern species. On the Galapagos
Islands in the Pacific Ocean he noticed many variations among plants and animals of the same
general type as those in South America. The expedition visited places around the world, and Darwin
studied plants and animals everywhere he went, collecting specimens for further study.
Upon his return to London Darwin concluded thorough research of his notes and specimens many
ideas. Out of this study grew several related theories: one, evolution did occur, two, evolutionary
change was gradual, requiring thousands to millions of years, three, the primary mechanism for
evolution was a process called natural selection, and four, the millions of species alive today arose
from a single original life form through a branching process called specialization.
The movie Darwin s Dangerous Idea was based on Darwin s theory of evolution. It

Congress Passed The Budget Control Act
On August 2, 2011, Congress passed the Budget Control Act (BCA) of 2011 which cut $487
billion from projected defense spending over the next 10 years.1 The act also established a
system of sequestration, which would cut an additional $495 billion from the defense budget.2
Altogether, the BCA would cut almost $1 trillion dollars from the Department of Defense (DoD).
The passing of the BCA and the subsequent loss of funding mark an end to a 13 year period of
robust budget allocations to support the global war on terrorism. From 2001 to 2013 over $1.6
trillion has been allocated to the DoD to support preparations for and execution of operations in
various overseas areas.3 Within this $1.6 trillion, 94% of the funding was allocated to support
operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.4 This robust amount of funding cultivated a culture within the
DoD that there would always be funding available to cover costs at home and abroad. This culture
is deeply entrenched within the United States Armydue to large budgets provided to the Army over
the past 13 years. In today s environment of shrinking budgets, this culture can no longer stand true
and must be changed. Establishing a cost conscious culture (CCC) within the Army is critical to our
ability to sustain the current Army force structure and make the needed modernization investments
to ensure our capability to fight and win our nations wars.
Our world continues to remain a violent, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous environment.

448 Responding to the Wii? Market Birth, Collapse, and Rebirthb The videogame industry got
off to an uncertain start in 1972, when television maker Magnavox introduced Odyssey, the first
home videogame console. Priced at $100 (the equivalent of $516 in 2008 dollars),c Odyssey
needed a television screen to project its very limited action. The system came with 12 games,
including versions of tennis and ping pong, each on a printed circuit board.5 However, partly
due to some uninspired marketing and distribution decisions, Odyssey s appeal proved limited.
Magnavox sold more than 100,000 game systems by year end, but sales quickly declined and
Odyssey was pulled from the market.6 Enter Atari Around the same time, a young entrepreneur
named Nolan Bushnell was developing arcade games with the use of then new microprocessor
technology.7 In 1972, the company he started, Atari, launched its first hit game an arcade version
of ping pong.8 In Pong, two players batted a ball of light back and forth between on screen
paddles. The game instructions were simple: Avoid missing ball for high score. 9 Pong was an

Arguments For And Against The Early Anthropogenic Hypothesis
11,700 years ago the geological epoch the Holocene was thought to of began following the
Pleistocene epoch, together these time periods make up the Quaternary period. The Holocene has
been described as being relatively warm and with a fairly stable climate. Not only this, but it is
thought to coincide with the start of agriculture as human populations rose throughout the Holocene
technology became more sophisticated aiding the rise of agriculture (Holden, 2012). The early
anthropogenic hypothesis was published in 2003 by Professor W.F. Ruddiman, this was a three part
hypothesis in which Ruddiman proposed humans reversed natural decreases in CO2 values within
the atmosphere by deforestation. That they reversed natural methane decreases after 5,000 years by
irrigating rice, they also caused a warming sufficient to prevent a new glaciation within the last
several thousand years and during the Holocene (Ruddiman 2005). This hypothesis has attracted a
lot of attention with many people both supporting it and criticising it. Throughout this essay I will
be exploring the many arguments for and against the early anthropogenic hypothesis and stating
whether or not human kind could have prevented the start of an ice age during the Holocene. One
of the parts of Ruddimans three part early anthropogenic hypothesis focusses on the anomalous rise
in methane after 5,000 years. By looking at the past three interglaciations methane levels should
have fallen from ~700 ppb to a level such as

The increased population helps to increase the amount of greenhouse gases, but it mainly
contributes to the consumption of our world s natural resources. The more advanced countries
like the United States use so many resources. Our people waste so much more than they help to
conserve. Energy security is a growing concern for rich and emerging nations alike. The past drive
for fossil fuel energy has led to wars, overthrow of democratically elected leaders, and puppet
governments and dictatorships. There are many concerns and fears which include oil and other
fossil fuel depletion, reliance on foreign sources of energy, energy demands rising from advancing
developing countries such as China and India, economic efficiency versus population growth
debate, and renewable and other alternative energy sources. (Shah, 2009). Many people are
scared that we are wasting too much of our fossil fuels. They think that if we keep going at our
current rate, we will quickly use up all of our fossil fuels. People need to try to consider all of
the facts so that we can make good ethical decisions. It would be very wise to invest in
alternatives to fossil fuels. In the present and future, we need to work on preserving as much as
we possibly can. Currently, we are trying to find alternative fuel sources instead of using all of our
oil. That is just one example of ethical decisions that we are committing to. If everyone was

Frost, By Robert Frost
Robert Frost, an indigenous New England poet, is deserving of an ovation for his contributions
and magnitude in American Literature. Frost advises his readers to be actively engaged in
questioning the world we inhabit (49, Dickstein). In most of Frost s work, readers and critics enjoy
his choices of theme, likely being the outdoors and his surroundings. By using emotions recollected
in tranquility and his organic and inviolable relationship with his countryside, he celebrates New
Englands natural beauty throughout his literature using simple and accessible idioms. Edward
Garnett once predicted that Frost was destined to take a permanent place in American Literature
which he unquestionably has (40 49).
James S. Wilson praised Frost for his abiding humanity and the honesty of his portrayals of people
and situations, an honesty that disguises the inherent passion of his work. Like previously
mentioned, Frost s themes were often what caught the attention of many. As Morris Dickstein

remained constant focal points up to the present, though revised and elaborated upon over time (40).

In the world of education, many educators work together, not only for the benefit of student

in education, it simply means being in agreement. Collaboration is important and must be taken
seriously by both cooperating parties because they are working together to create a new shared

agreement of certain classroom issues, behavioral strategies, and instructional methods that will be
going forth. Collaboration can be done with other certified teachers in the school, or it can be done
with para educators. Whomever it is done with, both teachers serve a great purpose in the classroom
and they both can be of benefit the students. With two teachers in the classroom there is more
classroom management, and students can receive small group instruction which creates a more
intimate learning environment. In this scenario, Mrs. Smith, an inclusion teacher, but has never

James Tobin theorized that firms would continue to invest as long as the values of their shares
exceeded the replacement cost of their assets, therefore highlighting that the market value of a
firm equals total asset replacement cost (Tobin 1958). Furthermore, market value of a firm to
net replacement cost Is best expressed in relation to Tobin s Q equation where if Q value is
greater than 1, then a firm should consider expansion and growth as profit derived from net
assets should exceed the total cost of assets because if Q is a measurement of performance then
takeover returns are larger if the target is performing poorly, and the bidder is performing well
(Servaes 1991). Contrastingly, if the Q value was lower than 1 , the firm would be better off
selling its assets as monetary value of the assets are more than the value of retaining them .

The Effects Of Birth Control On Children
When focusing on the public s opinion on the use of birth control, research and analysis of polls
show that on average, the overall relevant public ranges from ages 15 19 or 18 and older, which
would indicate that they are teenagers post puberty or adults. Most of those surveyed were
American females, which is likely because they are most directly impacted by birth control,
considering that they are the ones taking it, receiving information about it at their doctor s, etc. The
relevant public also includes religious groups; Catholics are the most relevant religious group, as it
is the one that throughout the introduction and usage of birth control has been the most vocal
(Gallup, 2012). Also, while females are the ones taking the birth control, men are another group to
consider, as they are closely tied to the effects of using birth control.
Gallup s study titled Contraception Debate Divides Americans, Including Women includes all of
the subgroups of the public mentioned above. When answering the survey just based on gender,
men and women held similar views in that they both believed equally that even if working for a
religious based employer, birth control should be covered in women s health plans (Gallup, 2011).
Yet, when party affiliation was considered, less men in both parties were in favor of the issue than
women. Catholics believed birth control should not be covered, and this remained the same when
party affiliation was considered (Gallup, 2011). This shows that

Analysis Of A Thousand And One Nights
A Thousand and One Nights is a tale about the over sexed east which is favored by the sexually
repressed west when applied to and analyzed under the lens of Orientalism. This translation of
the text, while not as sexually explicit as Sir Richard Burton s translation, has its fair amount of
sexual promiscuity which paints the middle eastern characters as dishonest, violent, and sexually
deviant. These traits were seen as socially taboo to the west, especially those in Victorian Europe
who helped the tale gain its reputation as a popular exotic story. The two main scenes where
these traits come into play both take place within A Thousand and One Nights frame story with
Shahrayar and Shahzarman. Shahzarman kills his adulterous wife and her lover then leaves to
visit Shahrayar in his kingdom. When Shahrayar s wife and servants are caught in the act they are
killed and Shahrayar vows to kill his future brides on their wedding nights which is when
Shahrazad attempts to bring him to his senses. The two brothers are extremely hot headed and
violent and their wives are plagued by insatiable lust, which plays into the sexually charged
barbarity perpetuated by Orientalism. Throughout this paper I will be using Edward Said s
definition of Orientalism. Said defines Orientalism as the following: Orientalism can be discussed
and analyzed as the corporate institution for dealing with the Orient dealing with it by making
statements about it, authorizing views of it, describing it, by

reasons that might push them to spend money on these items (Hamari, 2011).
Hamari (2011) presented a model (figure below) to explain the reasons behind the purchase of

purchasable virtual items (H4). Players attitude was determined to be associated with players
purchase intention (H6). While subjective norm also affects purchase intentions directly (H5).

you plenty of time to shop and see what is available. If you are short on time, keep in mind you
can expedite this by paying a surcharge for the gown. In the search for the perfect dress, you
want to research what is available. This part of the process will allow you to think about what

Bay Of Fundy
In the Bay of Fundy the incoming tidal waters can overpower the flow of estuaries and rivers.
This extraordinary phenomenon is known as a tidal bore and occurs twice daily. At high tide, a
massive volume of seawater floods out of the Bay of Fundy into the rivers which feed it. The
narrowing riverbanks force the soaring waters in a amazing surge and often a visible standing
wave, in some cases 1 meter (3 feet) tall! In addition, 3 to 3.5 meters (10 12 feet) high rapids are
generated in the wake of the roaring and swirling tidal water as it charges upstream at speeds near
15 kilometers per hour (10 miles per hour)! Many estuaries and rivers draining into the northern

interesting as it is to watch the tidal bore from the shore, it s even more fun to go white water

located in Nova Scotia, is the only place in the world where you can go tidal bore rafting. In the

These adventures often also include an extremely fun mud sliding session. Tidal bore rafting might

Where Do You Start?
If you aren t all that enthusiastic about twisting yourself into a pretzel, don t worry. Hatha yoga
and asanas aren t the last word on the yogic path. There are several online, guided meditations you
could begin with instead. Isha Kriya is a popular option, and takes about 12 minutes to complete.
The UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center has a list of guided meditations too, though they
are audio only modules.
There are also a few general guidelines that will ensure you get the most out of your practice.
Wear Loose fitting Clothes
Skip the skin tights and figure hugging stuff and choose something which gives your body room.
Tight clothes can be a distraction while you are meditating or practicing and could end up playing
spoilsport with the whole experience. Organic garments are generally recommended by most texts
on yoga, and are said to be more supportive for your practice than synthetic

  • 2. What Is The Difference Between The Lewis And Clark Expedition The Lewis and Clark expedition was led by William Clark and Meriwether lewis (Thus the name of the expedition).Under Thomas Jefferson the expedition kicked off. It began on May 14, 1804 and came to a conclusion on September 26, 1806. The objective of the expedition was to reach the northwest and other regions beyond. Lewis kept a journal describing all his findings and surveillances. The expedition became very difficult and resources became scarce as the expedition carried on. Without knowledge of their surroundings they often found themselves lost without a clue of their whereabouts. On their long grueling journey they met two shoshone indians, Toussaint Charbonneau and his wife Sacagawea. From there on they expedition began to run much more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Effects Of The Tweed Ring Scandal The Tweed Ring Scandal The Tweed Ring scandal in New York began with William Boss Tweed. William is remembered for patronizing of his Tammany Hall political machine. He used it to gain massive sums of money during the Reconstruction. It was unfair, disguised, and very illegal. All of the cash he made was dirty and not legal, yet he managed to get away with this scheme from 1856 all the way until 1873. William was born in 1823, and by the time he was twenty eight years old, he was already in a position of power. He was the city alderman and was able to lock down other powerful office positions. He knew many people and was friendly, just to get to the top. He was elected to one term in Congress and grew his influence in the city... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The city finally began to realize the amount of finances William had drained and collected for himself and worked together to get him fined and arrrested. He was able to avoid it a few times, but was eventually charged and arrested in 1873. He was in jail for two years, but was arrested yet again after being released. He was confined for the rest of his life, where he died in his jail cell from severe pneumonia. The Credit Mobilier Scandal The Credit Mobilier Scandal was a scandal that completely shattered the careers of several Gilded Age politicians. The group was formed when some major stockholders in the Union Pacific Railroad formed their own company, the CrГ©dit Mobilier of America. They used it to give and sign contracts with wealthy businessmen that stated they would help fund the building of the new railroads. They also signed some with influential congressmen. These contracts were not good deals for the congressmen and businessmen. They didn t pay too much attention to the small wording of the contracts, that stated in helping fund the railroads, they would really be funding the railroad builders and making them rich from the deals. While the contracts seemed to be helping out the railroads, it was really a plot to make the builders, organizers, and overseers rich. There was no good intention in the scandal and just left many people without any money or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Leif Erickson was the first European to visit the new world before Christopher Columbus was born, however he wasn t recognized as the discoverer of the new world. John Cabot reached the coast of America in 1497 and he thought that North America was China, like Columbus, so he claimed the land for England. The American Revolutionwas a political disruption that took place between 1765 and 1783 which colonists in the thirteen American colonies rejected the British monarchy and defeated Great Britain and created the United Statesof America. • 5. Stereotyping Is A Natural Instinct That Humans Historically, humans have always been separated into groups based on appearance, whether that is concerning body shape, the clothes we wear, or the color of our skin. Stereotyping is a natural instinct that humans have because they feel the need to classify people in order to not feel threatened by them. Humans feel an obligation to know and understand people but do not necessarily want to be associated with them, thus they place people into specific groups, labeling them. One of the primary ways that we stereotype people is by their race. Being a minority that has always been prejudiced against in America, African Americans are often judged because of the way that they speak. Black students have struggled in academic settings that use Standard English, such as in the common American classroom. African AmericanVernacular English (AAVE) harms Black students through discrimination on standardized tests and in classroom environments. AAVE is a variation of what is commonly referred to as Standard English, and is predominantly spoken by African American communities across the United States. Unlike many other variations of English, AAVE is not regional so African Americans speak more or less the same way all across the country. These sociolinguistic parallels are because African Americans are oriented to a sense of ethnic solidarity and nation wide cohesiveness due to their extensive history of fighting in unity for the same victories (Fought, 2003). The possibility that AAVE ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Battle Royale Analysis When Battle Royale first made its debut to the world, there were already concerns from the government and parents about its effects on teenagers. Despite the Motion Picture Code Committee restricting admission to anyone under sixteen, teenagers still camped out for two days to see the opening screening (G. Sparks and C. Sparks 269). The film was controversial for its extreme violence, but the reactions of the adults to try and control their children tellingly echoed the conflict within the film itself, something its director had purposefully highlighted. Kinji Fukasaku used props throughout his film to represent the challenging relationships between the older and younger generations of Japan. Based in real life encounters and the failings of the Japanese school system, Fukasaku brought the conflicts between the government, parents, teachers, and students to the screen in a darkly humorous bloodbath. Authority Figures versus Children To better understand Fukasaku s approach to his film, it will help to examine his own childhood. As a young teenager, Fukasaku grew up in a country plagued by the horrors of World War II: His class was drafted into the war effort, and they found themselves working in a munitions factory. [...] The classmates were caught in a barrage of artillery fire. [...] The survivors of the attack used the corpses of their friends as cover and, after the violence has passed, Fukasaku and his surviving friends were given the task of disposing of the body parts ... • 7. Energy Flow Among Organisms of a Food Chain in the Desert... Corinne N Bryant May 2, 2013 University of Phoenix The lives of the organisms in the desert require a substantial amount of survival skills. The temperature in a desert biome is always very high and it does not rain very often so it is also extremely dry. Any organisms that live in the desert must be able to adapt to these conditions in order to live. For example, one organism that can be found in the desert is cacti. Cacti roots are closer to the surface than other plants so it is able to drink the rain water. They also have think skins which are a protection from the heat along with the fact that its stems grow upward instead of outward protecting it from the sun (Big Site of Amazing Facts, 2013). The cactus is also an expert ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the desert biome, no organism would be able to survive without another organism. Their interactions are constant. Plants provide shelter and food for animals and animals help to pollinate and grow flowers (Bailey, 1999). One example of the interactions of organisms in the desert is between birds and other small animals and the cactus. Desert birds and animals that are small enough to navigate between cacti sharp needles use the cactus for shelter and for water. Another example would be how bats spread pollen from one part of a cactus to another part which helps the cactus grow flowers. The Joshua tree makes fruit in which animals eat, too. These are all examples of how organisms in the desert interact with each other. Although animals living in the desert have had to evolve in order to adapt to the desert conditions, those conditions are very fragile. The desert may be a hard place for non natives to survive, but the desert s ecosystem is very sensitive and not easy to regenerate. Development, off highway vehicle use, livestock overgrazing, construction of roads and utilities, military training exercises, air pollution and the spread of non native plant species have seriously altered the desert ecosystem over the last century (Barton, 1999). These are the hazards by humans that are directly affecting the ecosystem in the desert. • 8. Technology And The Pursuit Of Reaching Our Goal Powerlifters, but more specifically women who train and compete in the United States, use many forms of technology in the pursuit of reaching our goal. As a female powerlifter residing in the United States I have been to numerous competitions and have had the opportunity to meet many others who belong to the same demographic. Therefore, I can testify that my goal is similar to that of the entire group. Our fundamental goal is to lift the most weight on the squat, bench press, deadlift, and the combined total of these three lifts. In order to reach that goal we utilize many forms of technology. I have categorized these forms of technology into three sections: technology within equipment, technology for safety, and technology for information/improvement. Though there are other forms of technology utilized, these categories cover the majority of technology we commonly employ. Ultimately, the technology we use makes it easier for female powerlifters, like myself, who compete in the United States to reach our goal of lifting the most amount of weight on our three lifts because it allows us to lift without being limited by the amount of weight equipment can hold, without injury, and with information necessary for improvement. Let us begin our discussion on how technology is employed in a powerlifter s day to day activities by looking at the technology within the equipment category. For starters, we lift weight on barbells designed specifically for powerlifting. The tensile ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Housman To an Athlete Dying Young, the title, the cover to the book, is quick to attract the eyes of a person with an athletic interest. However, beneath the title lies a poem that possess many components of a masterpiece that ultimately attracts many more than the previously stated group of human beings. The man behind the masterpiece, A.E. Housman was born in March of 1859. Growing up in England, Housman s education was the least questionable attribute about him. It was his strive for a greater knowledge that led him to seek more and ultimately the composition of the masterpiece of To an Athlete Dying Young, which is a part of the novel A Shropshire Lad, also by Housman. In Merriam Webster s Encyclopedia of Literature, the athlete in the poem will now never experience the fading of that glory and human beings can count on neither earthly happiness nor immortality ( To an Athlete Dying Young ). In the poem, the poet involuntary constantly demands for the reader s emotion while simultaneously showing apathy to the death of the young athlete. By the poet s reasoning, there is no sense in lamenting the young man s death, because he has not lived to see his records broken and will go to his grave a champion ( Explanation of: To an Athlete Dying Young by A.E. Housman ) claims an unknown author. Proving the lack of emotion Housman has in the poem, an unknown author gives an explanation. Apart of the ironic theme that the death of the young athlete is celebrated, not grieved over, the lack of apathy Housman shows signifies the reason why there is no, lamenting. The poet sees the event as a celebratory moment because unlike other athletes who live to see their records broken, the athlete who dies young will never have to see the fate. The young athlete dies at the peak and does not have to experience the fall. The final device Housman uses in To an Athlete Dying Young is the tone throughout the poem. Symptoms And Symptoms Of Adhd, Depression, And Anxiety Discussion This study examined whether SCT symptoms are significantly associated with poor study skills and EF deficits in college students over and above demographics and symptoms of ADHD, depression, and anxiety. This study also examined whether deficits in EF mediate the association between symptoms of SCT and poor study skills over and above demographics and symptoms of ADHD, depression, and anxiety. The current study adds to extant research regarding SCT in a number of ways. This is the first study to examine SCT in relation to the component aspects of academic functioning, such as learning and study skills, in a college student sample. Specifically, and as hypothesized, SCT symptoms were significantly associated with poorer study skills, and the associations between SCT and the affective learning strategy and goal strategy components of study skills remained significant even after controlling for symptoms of ADHD, depression, and anxiety. Of note, the association between ADHD inattention and study skills was either greatly reduced (affective strategies) or reduced to nonsignificance (goal strategies) when SCT was added to the regression models. SCT is characterized by daydreaming, mental confusion, low motivation, and slowed thinking which may possibly explain the association between SCT and poor affective learning (which includes attitudes towards school success, time management, and concentration) and goal strategies (which includes academic anxiety, use of homework and test taking strategies, and being able to distill the most critical or important information when learning). Interestingly, SCT was much less strongly correlated with comprehension monitoring strategies (r = .22) than with either affective learning or goal strategies (rs = .65 and .63, respectively), and SCT was no longer significantly associated with comprehension monitoring strategies in the initial regression analysis that controlled for demographics and other psychopathology symptoms. • 11. The Christian Worldview The Christian Worldview is very widely known in today s society. This religion has many strong beliefs about the creation of the world and what waits for believers in the afterlife. Psalms 111:10 gives a good idea of the foundation of the Christian worldview by saying. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise. (New International Version). The Christian worldview has very specific beliefs and expectations in God, humanity, Jesus and Restoration. According to the Christian Worldview, God is to be feared, known, and loved as the sovereign creator whom all should glory, honor, and praise. God is believed to have many characteristics, included but not limited to being unchanging, all powerful, all knowing, good, loving, jealous, faithful, and holy. These characteristics are believed to be true because they are seen through his eternal nature,, his omnipotence and his goodness (DiVincenzo, 2014). In Romans 1:20, the Holy Biblesays, For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, aver since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. God is also the first person in the Trinity, the belief that there is one God who exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Kilby, 2011). Another belief of the Christian worldview is that God is the creator of all things; however, distinct from his creation. The first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What Is The Simplified Workflow For Nucidic Acid Isolation... 3.3.8.Simplified Workflow for Nucleic Acid Isolation from Captured Cells An important aspect for cell capture devices is the ability to easily access cells and nucleic acids for downstream analysis (e.g. clonal expansion, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), gene expression, and sequencing) to determine the type of primary tumor and monitor disease progression [130, 131]. Microfluidic cell capture approaches are typically formed by permanently bonding the channel network to the capture surface, and access to the captured cells and nucleic acids is only possible by flowing fluid through the channel. Results showed that approximately twice as much nucleic acid was extracted from the direct transfer method (1523 В± 225.9 ng, A260/280 = 2.03 В± 0.02) compared to in channel lysis (647 В± 5.7 ng, A260/280 = 1.99 В± 0.08) with statistically significant differences (n = 5, p value 0.05). For the normalization of data in Figure 3.10(c) the number of cells equivalent to the initial cell seeding density was pipetted directly from cell suspension into lysis buffer. The data are presented as the extraction efficiency with respect to the control. The extraction efficiency of direct transfer and in channel method was 80% and 35%, respectively. The purity of the extracted nucleic acid between the methods was comparable, but the direct transfer method was simple to implement and did not require sample handling or fluid manipulation. The straight channel used here represented a conservative extraction because more complicated branched networks can lead to sample losses from dead volumes, external tubing, and large surface area to volume ratios microfluidic channels. This form of care can take place in several different settings such as, hospitals, long term care facilities, home or hospice. The care can be provided by nurses, physicians, social workers, spiritual advisors, trained volunteers, family and loved ones. (Health Canada, 2010) Once again this form of care is not required under the Canada Health Act, it is up to the province/territory to determined coverage. Certain provinces/territories do include this service in their provincial health plans while others include it in provincial home care budgets or other health service budgets. While it may be covered, many families still carry a burden of about 25% for caring for their family members at home or at any facility other than a hospital (Fact Sheet: Hospice Care, 2012, p. 5). The scene I want to focus on for the textual analysis is the scene in which the angel Cassiel attempts to comfort a suicidal man, but his attempts at comfort fail when the man jumps off of a building, causing Cassiel to descend into a spiral of grief and anger. The scene starts with a sound bridge between a shot of birds in flight and a shot of a man sitting on the edge of a building. The sound of the birds mixes with non diegetic music and the sound of the man s thoughts. The viewers can hear his thoughts, which is symbolized by his non diegetic stream of consciousness monologue. Then there are a few interlude shots of Peter Falk, before the montage, which is a maelstrom of quickly paced short shots. The short, confusing shots serve to disorient the viewer and put them in the same headspace as Cassiel, who is grieving, as well as to create symbolic meaning. In between the handheld shots that progress through the city, there are shots of people that are vulnerable or hurt. There is a shot of a woman lying on a staircase, a shot of a man on a bench, possibly an index pointing at him being homeless, a fighting couple, a child crying for his mother, and footage that seems to be from during the war, intercutting with shots of a bird s wings. Bird s wings are symbolically associated with angels, and these shots intercut with shots of war and destruction, linking the two together, the angel is the powerless witness of the war. The viewer understands the shots in the montage to be from the angel s point of view; he is the one who sees all that pain and carries the burden of comfort. Jump cuts are used as well throughout the montage, for example in the shot of the women in the staircase, further increasing the sense of frantic confusion, and an example of poetic rather than practical language, as the information is not delivered in a straightforward ... From the beginning of the National Socialist Party s rise to power to the downfall of the conquering Nazi regime, the ideology of a racially and biologically superior Germany was a large motivating force for the actions taken by the regime s leaders and its people. National Socialist supporters saw the fictitious Aryan raceas the pure, master race of Germany, while minority races and religions, namely Jews, as well as any subculture that did not follow Nazi ideology or social norms, were deemed as inferior sub humans. Despite the connection of race superiority between Aryan men and women, however, women, somewhat similarly to racial minorities, were perceived as submissive, lesser humans to the Nazi political leaders when compared to the supposedly influential and flawless Aryan men. Men, according to Nazi ideology, are who make history and will devote [their] powers towards the victory of Germany and the domination of the Aryan race over Europe. Yet, for the Aryan race to successfully rule Europe, a new and large generation of pure Aryan Germans must come into fruition, thus the need for Aryan women s compliance in bearing many children was essential. The Germans tried to terminate the Jewish race by gassing, open fire shooting, and flaming them. Adolf Hitler was the mastermind behind the Holocaust. He believed that the Jews were the source of all the problems Germany was experiencing. In the encyclopedia of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Hitler and the Germans presented Jews as the source for a variety of political, social, economic, and ethical problems facing the German people (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum). The stereotypes formed against the Jews portrayed them as an alien race that fed off of Germany, poisoned the culture, and seized the economy. The belief that Jews conspired to harm society formed from Nazi propaganda which soon resulted in violence. This affected the world because surrounding countries started to view the Jews the same as the Nazis. In the book, The Holocaust, the author writes of the passing down of the many stereotypes. Human freedom is an extensive topic because it extends throughout many different aspects of life, such as politics, religion, and education to name a few. Throughout this paper, I intend to address the aspects of human freedom as seen through the writings of Emile Durkheim, Alexis de Tocqueville, and Max Weber. Each theorist presents his own ideas on what human freedom really is and how it can exist, but they also share a few ideas as well. In fact, they were seen as nothing more than selfless wives and mothers. The seemingly perfect wife then, was characterized by her dutifulness and obedient demeanor. This notion of male supremacy was undoubtedly the predominant basis of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Rendered unable to voice their own opinions, women then turned to pen and paper as a way to communicate their thoughts. On the Galapagos Islands in the Pacific Ocean he noticed many variations among plants and animals of the same general type as those in South America. Arguments For And Against The Early Anthropogenic Hypothesis 11,700 years ago the geological epoch the Holocene was thought to of began following the Pleistocene epoch, together these time periods make up the Quaternary period. The Holocene has been described as being relatively warm and with a fairly stable climate. Not only this, but it is thought to coincide with the start of agriculture as human populations rose throughout the Holocene technology became more sophisticated aiding the rise of agriculture (Holden, 2012). The early anthropogenic hypothesis was published in 2003 by Professor W.F. Ruddiman, this was a three part hypothesis in which Ruddiman proposed humans reversed natural decreases in CO2 values within the atmosphere by deforestation. That they reversed natural methane decreases after 5,000 years by irrigating rice, they also caused a warming sufficient to prevent a new glaciation within the last several thousand years and during the Holocene (Ruddiman 2005). This hypothesis has attracted a lot of attention with many people both supporting it and criticising it. Throughout this essay I will be exploring the many arguments for and against the early anthropogenic hypothesis and stating whether or not human kind could have prevented the start of an ice age during the Holocene. The more advanced countries like the United States use so many resources. Our people waste so much more than they help to conserve. Energy security is a growing concern for rich and emerging nations alike. The past drive for fossil fuel energy has led to wars, overthrow of democratically elected leaders, and puppet governments and dictatorships. There are many concerns and fears which include oil and other fossil fuel depletion, reliance on foreign sources of energy, energy demands rising from advancing developing countries such as China and India, economic efficiency versus population growth debate, and renewable and other alternative energy sources. (Shah, 2009). Many people are scared that we are wasting too much of our fossil fuels. They think that if we keep going at our current rate, we will quickly use up all of our fossil fuels. People need to try to consider all of the facts so that we can make good ethical decisions. It would be very wise to invest in alternatives to fossil fuels. In the present and future, we need to work on preserving as much as we possibly can. Currently, we are trying to find alternative fuel sources instead of using all of our oil. • 33. Frost, By Robert Frost Robert Frost, an indigenous New England poet, is deserving of an ovation for his contributions and magnitude in American Literature. Frost advises his readers to be actively engaged in questioning the world we inhabit (49, Dickstein). In most of Frost s work, readers and critics enjoy his choices of theme, likely being the outdoors and his surroundings. By using emotions recollected in tranquility and his organic and inviolable relationship with his countryside, he celebrates New Englands natural beauty throughout his literature using simple and accessible idioms. Edward Garnett once predicted that Frost was destined to take a permanent place in American Literature which he unquestionably has (40 49). James S. Wilson praised Frost for his abiding humanity and the honesty of his portrayals of people and situations, an honesty that disguises the inherent passion of his work. Like previously mentioned, Frost s themes were often what caught the attention of many. As Morris Dickstein explained in Critical Insights Robert Frost, the core themes were established early on and have remained constant focal points up to the present, though revised and elaborated upon over time (40). Prior to Frost s pursuit of poetry, he had worked on a farm. Having done that, he had many hours on the land, with time to appreciate the green colors and natural sounds and beauty. Most of those surveyed were American females, which is likely because they are most directly impacted by birth control, considering that they are the ones taking it, receiving information about it at their doctor s, etc. The relevant public also includes religious groups; Catholics are the most relevant religious group, as it is the one that throughout the introduction and usage of birth control has been the most vocal (Gallup, 2012). Also, while females are the ones taking the birth control, men are another group to consider, as they are closely tied to the effects of using birth control. Gallup s study titled Contraception Debate Divides Americans, Including Women includes all of the subgroups of the public mentioned above. When answering the survey just based on gender, men and women held similar views in that they both believed equally that even if working for a religious based employer, birth control should be covered in women s health plans (Gallup, 2011). Yet, when party affiliation was considered, less men in both parties were in favor of the issue than women. Analysis Of A Thousand And One Nights A Thousand and One Nights is a tale about the over sexed east which is favored by the sexually repressed west when applied to and analyzed under the lens of Orientalism. This translation of the text, while not as sexually explicit as Sir Richard Burton s translation, has its fair amount of sexual promiscuity which paints the middle eastern characters as dishonest, violent, and sexually deviant. These traits were seen as socially taboo to the west, especially those in Victorian Europe who helped the tale gain its reputation as a popular exotic story. The two main scenes where these traits come into play both take place within A Thousand and One Nights frame story with Shahrayar and Shahzarman. Shahzarman kills his adulterous wife and her lover then leaves to visit Shahrayar in his kingdom. When Shahrayar s wife and servants are caught in the act they are killed and Shahrayar vows to kill his future brides on their wedding nights which is when Shahrazad attempts to bring him to his senses. The two brothers are extremely hot headed and violent and their wives are plagued by insatiable lust, which plays into the sexually charged barbarity perpetuated by Orientalism. Throughout this paper I will be using Edward Said s definition of Orientalism.
