Starbucks and Howard Schultz
Waking up drowsy, struggling to get out of bed and the difficulty to mentally prepare for the day
is a common problem that many individuals deal with day in and day out. Consuming one
particular caffeine filled drink can almost always solve the morning grogginess and lack of
motivation for the majority of people. Coffeehas become part of the daily routine for the majority
of people all around the world, and due to the constant demand for coffee, there are numerous multi
million and multi billion dollar successful coffee chain companies that can be found internationally
and all over the globe. When considering all of the major coffee corporations, a few well

It left a lifelong impression on Schultz (Gallo, Forbes). From his father s struggles, Schultz
realized he wanted to work hard to pursue a career he loved and was passionate about. Since
Schultz did not have endless opportunities due to his families financial struggles, he needed to
strive to be the best he could be, hoping that one day he would be able to provide for his family
in ways that his parents could not. Schultz s childhood and young adulthood struggles before his
success qualify him as a twice born leader, which is characterized by Warren Bennis as someone
who has re invented him or herself and become a leader due to their hard work and success while
overcoming many obstacles. Bennis highlights in his book that often times it is much harder for
people to become leaders when they need to overcome struggles such as financial setbacks or rough
upbringings. While Schultz attended Northern Michigan University pursuing a degree in
Communications, he probably never envisioned that one day he would be leading such a successful
and prominent business. As he strived to work his way out of Brooklyn, he probably never
imagined the endless opportunities that would be presented to him once he joined the Starbucks
Corporation in 1982 when it was a very small company with just four stores (Mullin, 1).
Warren Bennis discusses many aspects that contribute to becoming a leader in his book and one of
the most prominent ideas he touches on is the idea of a

The American Dream Is Overrated Essay
The American Dream is overrated. Let s just face it, it is dead. Not only is this a dream that is
almost lusted after by many Americans, this is a widely desired illusion that is far out of reach
for most working class people. The American Dream is more than the lifestyle of white picket
fences that hold backyard barbecues with your neighbors. It s earning a living wage that creates a
comfortable quality of life, having the security of retirement, and giving your children the
opportunity to live a successful life. The American Dream doesn t run on magic and fairy dust,
it is fueled by hard earned American dollars, persistence, and hope. Most modern, working class
families can t expect to receive a reasonable income to cover things such as medical expenses and
emergencies. With that said, the stay at home parent trying to reach the goal of a perfect oasis is
even more taboo. It s hard to achieve this dream , when you re the only breadwinner in your
household. Parents can no longer live comfortably, and in some cases even survive, on one person
s income. The costs of homes, transportation, and education combined with incredibly low wages
often leaves families in a crippling financial situation, making it virtually impossible to, keep up
with the Jones s. Speaking realistically, most people live in the moment. We focus on things
happening in our lives now. Life itself is a constant quest for happiness and security in a world that
is very often uncertain, and even

Savagery In Lord Of The Flies Essay
A quotation by Xun Zi states, Human nature is evil, and goodness is caused by intentional
activity. The evil and savagery of human nature thrives in William Golding s allegory, The Lord of
the Flies, emerging through the devolving state of the boys minds. Golding implies throughout the
novel that humanity naturally reverts to cruelty and savagery. Two characters, however, fail to
follow the rest of the group toward evil since they embody the moral goodness and intellectual
aspects of a civilization. Their deaths bring the downfall of all order on the island. Through the
deaths of Simon and Piggy, Golding implies how the inherent evil of human nature drowns out the
good in a society like it did for the anti intellectual Khmer Rouge and the murder of Emil
Grunzweig.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Golding employs the direct diction, The beast stumbled into the horseshoe... Simon was crying
out... Kill the beast... (168) to imply the blind savagery that overtakes the boys as they mistake
Simon for the beast. The phrase kill the beast chanted by the mob suggests their fear and
adrenaline fuel the urgent desire for blood. This becomes significant as the reader realizes that
the boys act on behalf of the evil nature of the beast inside of them. The author affirms that all of
the boys felt the effects of the beast within them through Ralph s statement, I wasn t scared... I
was I don t know what I was (173). This quotations displays Ralph s uncertainty and confusion
over Simon s death. This becomes significant as the boys lose their hold on sanity once anchored
through Simon. Although Simon s death allows the group to lose hold of their goodness, Piggy s
death causes all order to cease on the

Does putting restrictions on a country end a war or setup the start for another war. After World
War One the United States and the Allied powers created the Treaty of Versailles. The Treaty of
Versailles set up new nations and borders between the Allied powers and Central powers. The
treaty also contained a war guilt clause which would hold Germany solely responsible for starting
World War One. Germany was one of the reasons that WWI started but the only reason. Since
Germany had to take the responsibility for the war, they were faced with a crushing major debt.
The Germans were at an all time low. This debt and unemployment cause civil unrest in Germany;

Who To Blame Titanic Research Paper
You ve heard of the Titanic s sinking, right? Well, do you know who is exactly is responsible
though? The captain of the R.M.S. Titanic is to blame, which was Captain Edward J. Smith and
he was a popular leader. He had a total of 38 years of working with the White Star Line, the
company that owned the Titanic. Captain Smith should have had full control of the ship and
obviously, that night, he did not. Therefore, Captain Smith is the the person to blame for the
sinking of the R.M.S. Titanic because he cancelled a lifeboat drill on the Titanic, he allowed
lifeboats to leave partially full and not at the correct time, and lastly, he ignored seven different
iceberg warnings. Captain Smith cancelled a lifeboat drill on the Titanic for unspecified reason.

A. Colonialism in North America
England s desire for economic gain and religious freedom sparked the beginning of their interest in
colonialism in America (Gouch, LeGuin, Walton, 1998). While some settlers came to America in
search of gold or other riches, the Puritans that settled the Massachusetts Bay Colony came to
escape religious persecution and have freedom to worship as they desired. In 1630, over a
thousand Puritans arrived, being led by a lawyer named John Winthrop. All English settlers were
required to set up charter system governments. This system allowed the settlers to organize ... Show

The British, unwilling to give up their rule, even went as far as to demand that Colonist pay for the
protection of the British Army and Navy. The Colonist felt since they had no representation in the
British parliament, they owed nothing. When no agreement could be reached a revolution was
inevitable (Joes, 1996).
Another cause of the American Revolution was the desire of the colonists to have freedom of
religion and the determination of England that the colonist must remain true to the Church of
England. Puritans, a religious group who came to the colonies seeking freedom of religion, wanted
to remain a part of the Church of England, but develop their own style of worship. Another more
radical religious group, Separatists, wanted a complete break from the Church of England. The goal
of both of both the Puritans and the Separatists was to have the freedom to express religious beliefs
without fear of persecution by the church or government. England remained firm that the colonist
must follow the practice of the Church of England with no variation ( Annenberg Learner, 2013).
B2. Indian Independence Movement
The general cause of the Indian Independence Movement was India s desire for independence from

the organization of people, institutions, and resources to deliver health care services to meet the
health needs of target populations. There are two widely known and used healthcare organizations

PPOs allow consumers to seek care outside the network coverage but this allowance attracts extra
fee. PPOs provide prescription services at a reduced cost; have a larger network covering larger
geophysical areas. PPOs management style has advantages over HMOs as they less restrictive
and affords the consumers opportunity to use out of network facilities with prior approval at a
cost. PPOs are located in more geographical areas and makes access easier. Subscribers are not
stuck with a PCP nor require referrals to see providers outside the network. Consumers file for
claims for reimbursement when visit is made to out of network health provider Motivational
Methods There are as many different methods of motivating employees today as there are
companies operating in the global business environment. Still, some strategies are prevalent across
all organizations striving to improve employee motivation. The best employee motivation efforts
will focus on what the employees deem to be important. It may be that employees within the same
department of the same organization will have different motivators. Many organizations today find
that flexibility in job design and reward systems has resulted in employees increased longevity with
the company, improved productivity, and better morale. Conflict Resolution With the need for
constant change comes conflict. There are several strategies for handling conflict, avoidance,

Ancient Egyptian Royalty And The Pantheon Of Gods Essay
When asked to describe Ancient Egypt, many will speak of towering pyramids, glittering
sarcophaguses, and fist sized scarab pendants. However, the image of Ancient Egypt that most
have learned has one glaring flaw: it inordinately focuses on the lives of the social elite. The
descriptions given seldom mention the stories of merchants, artisans, or slaves; they are solely
focused on exploring the lives of the Egyptian royalty and the pantheon of gods that they
worshipped. The social disparity in the study of Ancient Egyptis not the fault of professors,
textbooks, or the field of education in general; rather, it is indicative of the deep social divides
which were omnipresent in Egyptian society from its initiation. In Western Civilizations: Volume
One, the authors confirm the rigid socioeconomic class system of this era: The social pyramid of
Old Kingdom Egypt was extremely steep. At its apex stood the Pharaoh and his extended family,
whose prestige and power set them entirely apart from all other Egyptians. This strict social
structure pursued the Egyptian consciousness, even in death. The Book of the Dead, a collection of
spells and incantations to aid a deceased person through the afterlife, contains ample evidence that
social classfollowed Egyptian citizens past their mortal existence. In my brief study of Ancient
Egypt, I have found evidence in The Book of the Dead to support the claims made by Dr. Symes
that Ancient Egyptian society followed a strict social caste

Hades And Persephone Research Paper
The Ancient Greeks lived a life oriented around religion, and this religious centered life came with
religious ceremonies to celebrate both men and women s coming of age into adulthood.
One interesting rite of passage for both men and women were the Eleusinian mysteries. These
mysteries are based and centered on the myth of Hades and Persephone, commonly used as an
explanation for the changing of the seasons, but has two other interpretations: the sexual
awakening and becoming a woman, and also the idea that is is possible to come back from the
afterlife. Hades may not be the end of everyone. Prior to her kidnapping, Persephone had no
name and was referred to as Kore, or maiden. Upon being kidnapped by Hades, according to some
versions of the myth, the virginal goddesses came to her defense, not wanting to lose one of their
own. Demeter, Goddess of Agriculture, falls into mourning at the loss of her daughter, or the
prospect of her daughter growing up and becoming a woman. Upon returning, Kore s name was

There was not much in the way of mentoring or assistance in guiding my career, but being new and
wanting to please, I worked hard and did what I was asked, even if I did not like the way it was

In 1995 the department decided that it needed a Crime Prevention Unit and I was selected to design
and implement this unit. They failed to mention that I was the unit and would be doing it by myself.
Based on the success I had in the Crime Prevention Unit, I was asked to create a Crime Analysis
Unit and then asked to implement Computer Forensics into our Investigations Bureau. During all
of these assignments, I worked as an individual and answered to a supervisor, who was uninvolved
as long as I did not cause them issues up the chain and obtained results.
The problem with this was that I learned to depend on no one and developed patterns that
prevented me from learning how to deal with and in turn lead others. If a project missed a
deadline it was my fault. I had the timelines, the due dates, and where the project was in my head
at all times. There was no need to determine how vacations, sick leave or any other scheduling
issue would interfere with the completion of a project. I never had to learn how to ask another
person to pick up the pace, provide a status check, handle additional workload, etc. Basically, I was
a one man show, which as I moved up the ranks of my department, turned into a weakness as I had
not developed those interpersonal

Similarities Between United Nations And Congress Of Vienna
United Nations Vs Congress of Vienna The Congress of Vienna wasn t a forerunner to the United
Nations because they are focused on rebuilding Europe and keeping peace in Europe. The United
Nations, on the other hand, was focused on preserving peace among all nations and helping others
out when they are in trouble. Also, the Congress of Vienna tried only to preserve and care about
Europe whereas the United Nationsis keeping peace and stability throughout the world. One thing
both organizations have in common is they were both formed after wars; the Napoleonic Wars and
World War II. The final important reason why the Congress of Vienna shouldn t be looked at as the
forerunner of the U.N. is because the United Nations is based in the United States but the Congress
of Vienna was made in Austria and only was important to European nations.

ultimate lost boy being Steven Spielberg himself. As a result of moving often in his formidable

The absence only grew after his parents divorced. Considered a nerd by many of his classmates,
even called Spielbug behind his back, he found solace in the world of film. In 1958, to satisfy the
quest for a merit badge in Boy Scouts, he made a nine minute video entitled the Last Gunfight. The

Theme Of Symbolism In Catcher In The Rye
The Catcher in the Rye: Prompt 3 In the novel, Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger uses a
variety of symbols to support the thematic idea that maturation and the loss of innocence are an
inescapable rite of passage for all of humanity. Three significant symbols that signify the
importance of alteration and losing one s purity to become more suited to live in the real world
are the ducks in the lagoon of Central Park, the Catcher in the Rye , and the carousel and the
gold ring. Furthermore, these three symbols hold a significant meaning for the main
protagonist, Holden Caulfield as well. Holden, the main character, encounters many moments
where he doesn t know where to go or what to do next. To aid him in his decision making, Holden
resides with the ducks of Central Park. These ducks are a powerful symbol that the author
utilizes in his novel to describe Holden s journey toward maturity. Furthermore, Holden ponders
whether the ducks are taken away and put into a zoo to be cared for when the pond freezes at
Central Park or if they are abandoned to fly away and fend for themselves. Holden revisits the
question of the ducks when he doesn t know if he should return to his parents or learn to live on
his own. Constantly, each time the ducks appear in the story, Holden s maturity becomes
augmented. For example, I stopped having a conversation with him, if he was going to get so damn
touchy about it. But he started it up again himself. He turned all the way around again, and

Oedipus Relationship Between Hamlet and Gertrude
The Oedipal Relationship between Hamlet and Gertrude
Throughout William Shakespeare s Hamlet, Shakespeare portrays Hamlet with the same types of
behaviors and frustrations in humans that Sigmund Freud saw at a much later date. When the
relationship between Hamlet and his mother is analyzed Freud s oedipal complex theory comes to
mind.
Sigmund Freud first wrote about his theory in his book An Interpretation of Dreams in 1899.
Simply put, Freud states that it is normal for children to have sexual desires for their parent of
the opposite sex. He says that it is also normal to have feelings of hatred for the other parent that
is of the same sex as the child. Most children experience these feelings between the ages of three
and five, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He states that she seeks out incestuous pleasure of his bed. (3.4 . l. 90) This exploring of his
mother s carnal nature is because he is sexually concerned for her. Hamlet also makes many
allusions to beds and sex in the scene because beds are where most sexual activity occurs. An
example of this is when Hamlet says: In the rank sweat of an enseamented bed Stew d (3.4 . l. 93
96) It is possible that here Shakespeare wanted to show how Hamlet s rage brought out all his
repressed sexually desires for his mother because of Hamlet s concentration on Gertrude s sex
life. All of these words come out in Hamlet s rage because before he had repressed them. It can
be best explained by Freud when he sates the complex which is thus formed is doomed to early
repression (Freud 51) but it has a lasting influence from the unconscious. (Freud 51) It could be
concluded from a Freudian point of view that in this scene Hamlet s repressed sexual desire for his
mother surfaces due to his rage in a form of sexual allusions.
The significance of the closet scene taking place in Gertrude s bedroom is also important to look
at because the privacy and intimacy of the bedroom add a new dimension when Hamlet s and
Gertrude s relationship is examined. Bedrooms are very private and are usually places where
sexual activity takes place. Shakespeare possibly placed Hamlet and Gertrude in these

Gendered Societal Expectations of Appearance and Their Effects Upon the Individual
It has long been generally accepted that we as humans are influenced greatly by the things that
surround our everyday lives. These things can include friends, family, co workers, the media and
even society as a whole. The society in which people live can play a huge role in how they view
themselves and how they view others. Over the years researchers have come up with many
theories as to how and why society has such a large influence on people. Now a days there are
appearance prescriptions for everything in our society. It is not good to be too fat, but it is not good
to be too skinny either. The way a person looks, dresses and acts is a large ... Show more content on

This study suggests that body dissatisfaction may mediate the relationship between overweight and
depression (Chaiton, 2009). It goes on to suggest that the relationship found between obesity and
depression is differentiated by gender because of the difference in societal expectations placed on
women and men (Chaiton, 2009). The study concluded that females experience body
dissatisfaction almost solely when they believe they are overweight, whereas both males who
believe that they are under or overweight experience body dissatisfaction which can in all cases
lead to some level of depression (Chaiton, 2009).
As the aforementioned study showed societal expectations concerning appearance can, and often
do, affect men just as much as they do women (Chaiton, 2009). Our society pushes men to be big,
muscular and manly. To certain degree the more muscular a man is the more attractive he
generally is within society. A study from an international journal regarding social behavior and
personality concluded that the attractiveness of a man is more important in determining social
desirability than the age of the man in question (Perlini, 2001). Comparatively the results of these
two studies add up to say that the attractiveness of a man is one of the main factors in determining
societal desirability and one of the biggest factors in being attractive is being muscular or strong.
This puts a lot of pressure on males to be concerned

It is clearly that someone who is obese is said to have a higher expense of health care, which
untimely creates an economic burden to the economy. Obesity leads to many diseases. It becomes
relatively expensive for health insurances and individuals to come up with the funding, especially
when gastric bypass surgery is the only solution. In order to solve this problem, insurances need to
cover obesity surgeries because it s considered a disease. As insurance companies cover the
individuals who are obese in the long run the cost benefit ratio will be beneficial to the nation,

outweighing the cost in the short term it will eventually occur in the long run.

Motivated purely by self interest, Mac the principal organizer, admits from the very beginning that
the situation is hopelessly stacked against the strikers because the growers are unusually well
organized and have commanding resources at their disposal. Despite this fact he is willing to risk
lives in pursuit of what he deems a greater cause. This inherent selfishness breeds the greed and
inhumanity that Steinbeck is so keen to expose in his novel, In Dubious Battle. Mac shows his true,

Mac displays his legitimate and egocentric self when Mac uses the death of his friend, Joy, to

Factors Affecting Share Price
Factors Affecting Share Prices
What are the major factors that affect share prices in the stock market? This is one of the most
frequently asked questions by stock market participants. There are varied internal and external
factors affecting the price of a share. Internal factors are those that depend on the firm such as share
bonuses, stock split, company dividends, etc. External factors are those which are beyond the
control of the firm, such as raw material prices, economic trends, inflation, investor confidence, etc.

There are many factors affecting share prices. It is very hard to say just one or two factors affect
the share prices. So, let us have a look at the factors that affect share prices.
Demand and Supply
This is the first factor that affects share prices. When you get to see that more people are buying
stocks, then there is an increase in the price of that particular stock. On the other hand price of
stock falls when more people are selling their stocks. So it is very difficult to predict the Indian
stock market. This is the main reason why you need to get in touch with a good stock market
consultant. There is consultancy for you which can help you a lot on choosing the right stocks for
you.
Market cap
It is a very big mistake when you try to guess a company s worth from the price of a stock. You
should know that the more important is the market capitalization of the particular company. This
helps to determine the worth of a company. So market cap serves as an important use to determine
share prices.
Earning per share
Now when it comes to the term, earning per share , it means the profit that a particular company
has made per share and that too on the last quarter. If you need to know the health of the company
then this is the most important factor. What s more earning per share also influences the buying
tendency in the market that results in the increase of the particular stock price. This is the reason

Good Communication Within A Business Environment
Abstract
Communication is one of the most important skills that people utilize everyday. Mainly people use
this to exchange ideas and develop interpersonal relationships. The specific reasons it is key to
have good communication within a business environment is that it will assist in the success of a
business as well as developing required professional relationships. Research has been conducted into
six of the most key communication aspects that effect businesses in the previous sentences. These
six are; communication channel, non verbal communication, correct wording, cultural conflicts,
personal perception and he quantity of communication. If these aspects are not considered for a
reasonable amount of time before the commencement of a day they can have detrimental affects on
the business, by business relationships being damaged, or never formed, and without these
relationships it will be harder for a business to succeed.
Before we can discuss why communication is vital we must define it, it is defined as The
imparting or exchanging of information by speaking, writing, or using some other medium.
(Oxford, 2015) Communication is key based on this definition not only in business but also just in
life. It is also a difficult object to get right, and needs to be planned thoroughly before continuing.
(Dewatripont Triole 2005, p. 1217) This supported by many other authors. The question has been
posed, Does communication always have a positive effect on a business?

By understanding their causes and characteristics, managers can make sensihle decisions about
when and how to fight a price war, when to flee one and even when to start one. The first step,
then, is diagnosis. Consider a small commodities supplier that suddenly found that its largest
competitor had slashed prices to a level well below the small company s costs. One option the
smaller company considered was to lower its price in a tit for tat move. But that price would have
heen below the suppher s marginal cost; it would have suffered debilitating losses. Fortunately, a
few phone calls revealed that its adversary was attempting to drive the supplier out of the local
market by underpricing its products locally but maintaining high prices elsewhere. The supplier
correctly diagnosed the pricing move as predatory and elected to do two things. First, the manager
called customers in the competitor s home market to let them know that the price cutter was

Those With Disability Essay
Several years after Congress took steps to guarantee equal access for the disabled at the voting
polls, studies showed that in the United States during the 2012 election cycle, 1 in 5 voters with
disabilities said they were kept from casting their ballot on their own and more than half said they
encountered hurdles (Heasley). Disabilities can be defined as an impairment that may be physical,
cognitive, intellectual, mental, sensory, developmental, or a combination of impairments that
causes restrictions on an individual s ability to participate in society. With an ongoing problem in
society as great as this, many began to question how such an impactful issue can be resolved. How
does one s disability affect their political participation within society? How do one s disabilities
even interfere with their ability to cast their vote in elections? How can one take steps to further
improve one s political participation whether they have physical, mental, or psychosocial

Currently, not much action has been taken to study or improve the conditions negatively imposed
upon those with disabilities. These critical issues will be examined in this study through the use of
peer reviewed articles, books, and legislative regulation proving their true impact on their ability to
increase political participation for those with disabilities. This study will seek to investigate if and

Persuasive Essay On Surfboarding
Imagine you are at the beach. You are laying down a towel and setting up an umbrella when
something catches your eye. Out in the ocean you see a surfer catching some waves, and it looks
so fun and exciting that you almost grab a board and join in. However you don t know how to surf
and would rather not embarrass yourself in front of all these beach goers. Surfing, however, isn t
complicated at all and can be accomplished in these simple steps. Firstly, you need to get the
proper equipment. You will, of course, need a surfboard. The fun board, as well as the foam
board, is recommended for beginners. They are easy to balance and turn on. After you have
your board, you need to get a leash. It is an essential equipment to have because it makes sure
your board does not float away. Surfboard wax is also important because it keeps you from
slipping off your board, so make sure to get it. Now that you have gathered all the materials, it is
time to prepare yourself. To prepare, you can do yoga. Yoga will help you gain upper body
strength allowing you to paddle and pop up on your board faster. Besides yoga, you also need to
practice your balance. Spending some time on a wakeboard or skateboard will help. After you
practice this, you need to find your stance on the surfboard. To do this, get a skateboard or a
surfboard, and stand parallel to it. If you are using a surfboard, put something under it to keep the
fins off the ground. Place one foot in the back and the other

Boxing
Roberto Hands of Stone Duran once said: Getting hit motivates me. It makes me punish the guy
more. A fighter takes a punch, hits back with three punches. Duran represents one of the hardest
punchers in boxing history, and the best middleweight that has ever fought. He is one of the most
experienced and successful boxers inside and outside of the ring. Boxingis a sport that provides
excellent physical condition, because its high intensity exercises all muscles at the same time. It
increases muscular tone, cardiovascular capacity and overall body strength.
One of the principal benefits of boxing is the capacity to increase muscular tone. Boxing doesn t
create bulky muscles, instead it provides well toned muscles due to the constant movement. By
punching and moving around, muscles are exercised at all times, which is very different from other
sports where only one muscle is exercised at a time. Exercising all muscles at once does not make
them bigger, it makes them healthy and able to develop properly. Bones also play an important
role in having well toned muscles. By boxing, bones gain power and size; therefore, the
proportions of muscles are affected in a positive way. When bones get stronger, muscles... Show

By punching and moving the hips, arms and legs constantly gain power and endurance. The
oblique, shoulders, back, and many more muscles are contracted. For example, throwing a punch
makes deltoids work in synergy with the pectorals, contracting the trapezius for another punch. This
example clearly demonstrates how boxing improves strength in a very good way and how it
involves a vast quantity of muscles. One of boxingВґs best attributes is giving the ability to defend
yourself. It properly teaches how to block a punch, dodge a strike, and hit properly. Because of
this, you will be able to defend yourself in any situation (even without hitting your opponent) and
leave with no harm done to your physical

As stated in the Encyclopedia of Science s article, obesity is affecting any child from any
ethnicity or race, age, economic backing, or region. Hispanic children, African American
children, native American children, and any other children with bad quality eating habits,
especially in the south, are at an exceptionally higher risk. The southern part of America is
known for their comfort food, which is extremely fattening, and is the reason why children
living in the south have an exceptionally higher chance of becoming obese. In the African
American communities, as well as the Hispanic communities, nearly 40% of the children are
overweight or obese. Children who are at a lower economic standing may have a higher chance
of developing obesity, but that doesn t mean wealthier children are immune. The site, Let s
Move states that without solving this issue, 1/3 of all children born after 2000 will suffer from
diabetes at one point in their lives. Statistics from the Encyclopedia of Life Science show that
this number is still growing and is being compared to the 7% of obese children and 5% obese
teens in the 1980 s, to show the changes needed to be done in society. More action, now more
than ever, needs to be taken against obesity. Obese children risk developing cardiovascular
problems, cancers and as well as

relevant and important because Pericles and Xerxes were influential leaders of their time and
continue to learn from them even today. Pericles was a general during the golden age of Athens
(480 404 BCE) and he led Athens during the early Peloponnesian war and Persian wars. Xerxes
was a king of Persia and is known for conquering much of Greece during his reign (486 465
BCE). This investigation will address the following: the achievements of the leaders, how they
affected the future and their means of doing what they did. This investigation will focus on the
time period from 518 BCE to 429 BCE and the places investigated will include Persia and the
reaches of the Greek empire. This will be completed through a thorough examination of several
books and information on the internet. The origin of the book Pericles of Athens and the Birth
of Democracy is from Donald Kagan and it was written in 1991 by an American historian and it
is a secondary source. The purpose of the book is to paint a clearer picture of Pericles by using

John F. Kennedy may me most memorable for with eloquent speeches. He was a good spokesperson
, proving himself right off the bat with his inaugural address in 1961. These speeches instilled
support and confidence in the hearts of those who listened. One can see how these feelings might
come about in this quote by the President in 1963. quot; What kind of peace do we seek? Not a
Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not a peace of the grave or
the security of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on
earth worth living, the kind that enables men and nations to grow and to hope to build a better life
for their children not merely peace for Americans, but peace for all men and women: not merely
peace in our time, but peace for all time. quot;
President Kennedy was a natural leader. This was noted by Admiral W.F. Halsey. Saying, quot; His
courage, endurance, and excellent leadership contributed to the saving of several lives and was in
keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. quot; Referring to an
incident that earned him a purple heart, in which the future President swam four miles while

Starbucks and Howard Schultz Waking up drowsy, struggling to get out of bed and the difficulty to mentally prepare for the day is a common problem that many individuals deal with day in and day out. Consuming one particular caffeine filled drink can almost always solve the morning grogginess and lack of motivation for the majority of people. Coffeehas become part of the daily routine for the majority of people all around the world, and due to the constant demand for coffee, there are numerous multi million and multi billion dollar successful coffee chain companies that can be found internationally and all over the globe. It left a lifelong impression on Schultz (Gallo, Forbes). From his father s struggles, Schultz realized he wanted to work hard to pursue a career he loved and was passionate about. Since Schultz did not have endless opportunities due to his families financial struggles, he needed to strive to be the best he could be, hoping that one day he would be able to provide for his family in ways that his parents could not. Schultz s childhood and young adulthood struggles before his success qualify him as a twice born leader, which is characterized by Warren Bennis as someone who has re invented him or herself and become a leader due to their hard work and success while overcoming many obstacles. Bennis highlights in his book that often times it is much harder for people to become leaders when they need to overcome struggles such as financial setbacks or rough upbringings. While Schultz attended Northern Michigan University pursuing a degree in Communications, he probably never envisioned that one day he would be leading such a successful and prominent business. As he strived to work his way out of Brooklyn, he probably never imagined the endless opportunities that would be presented to him once he joined the Starbucks Corporation in 1982 when it was a very small company with just four stores (Mullin, 1). Warren Bennis discusses many aspects that contribute to becoming a leader in his book and one of the most prominent ideas he touches on is the idea of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The American Dream Is Overrated Essay The American Dream is overrated. Let s just face it, it is dead. Not only is this a dream that is almost lusted after by many Americans, this is a widely desired illusion that is far out of reach for most working class people. The American Dream is more than the lifestyle of white picket fences that hold backyard barbecues with your neighbors. It s earning a living wage that creates a comfortable quality of life, having the security of retirement, and giving your children the opportunity to live a successful life. The American Dream doesn t run on magic and fairy dust, it is fueled by hard earned American dollars, persistence, and hope. Most modern, working class families can t expect to receive a reasonable income to cover things such as medical expenses and emergencies. With that said, the stay at home parent trying to reach the goal of a perfect oasis is even more taboo. It s hard to achieve this dream , when you re the only breadwinner in your household. Parents can no longer live comfortably, and in some cases even survive, on one person s income. The costs of homes, transportation, and education combined with incredibly low wages often leaves families in a crippling financial situation, making it virtually impossible to, keep up with the Jones s. Speaking realistically, most people live in the moment. We focus on things happening in our lives now. • 4. Savagery In Lord Of The Flies Essay A quotation by Xun Zi states, Human nature is evil, and goodness is caused by intentional activity. The evil and savagery of human nature thrives in William Golding s allegory, The Lord of the Flies, emerging through the devolving state of the boys minds. Golding implies throughout the novel that humanity naturally reverts to cruelty and savagery. Two characters, however, fail to follow the rest of the group toward evil since they embody the moral goodness and intellectual aspects of a civilization. Their deaths bring the downfall of all order on the island. Through the deaths of Simon and Piggy, Golding implies how the inherent evil of human nature drowns out the good in a society like it did for the anti intellectual Khmer Rouge and the murder of Emil Grunzweig.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Golding employs the direct diction, The beast stumbled into the horseshoe... Simon was crying out... Kill the beast... (168) to imply the blind savagery that overtakes the boys as they mistake Simon for the beast. The phrase kill the beast chanted by the mob suggests their fear and adrenaline fuel the urgent desire for blood. This becomes significant as the reader realizes that the boys act on behalf of the evil nature of the beast inside of them. The author affirms that all of the boys felt the effects of the beast within them through Ralph s statement, I wasn t scared... I was I don t know what I was (173). This quotations displays Ralph s uncertainty and confusion over Simon s death. This becomes significant as the boys lose their hold on sanity once anchored through Simon. Colonialism in North America England s desire for economic gain and religious freedom sparked the beginning of their interest in colonialism in America (Gouch, LeGuin, Walton, 1998). While some settlers came to America in search of gold or other riches, the Puritans that settled the Massachusetts Bay Colony came to escape religious persecution and have freedom to worship as they desired. In 1630, over a thousand Puritans arrived, being led by a lawyer named John Winthrop. All English settlers were required to set up charter system governments. The British, unwilling to give up their rule, even went as far as to demand that Colonist pay for the protection of the British Army and Navy. The Colonist felt since they had no representation in the British parliament, they owed nothing. When no agreement could be reached a revolution was inevitable (Joes, 1996). Another cause of the American Revolution was the desire of the colonists to have freedom of religion and the determination of England that the colonist must remain true to the Church of England. Puritans, a religious group who came to the colonies seeking freedom of religion, wanted to remain a part of the Church of England, but develop their own style of worship. Another more radical religious group, Separatists, wanted a complete break from the Church of England. The goal of both of both the Puritans and the Separatists was to have the freedom to express religious beliefs without fear of persecution by the church or government. England remained firm that the colonist must follow the practice of the Church of England with no variation ( Annenberg Learner, 2013). B2. • 10. Ancient Egyptian Royalty And The Pantheon Of Gods Essay When asked to describe Ancient Egypt, many will speak of towering pyramids, glittering sarcophaguses, and fist sized scarab pendants. However, the image of Ancient Egypt that most have learned has one glaring flaw: it inordinately focuses on the lives of the social elite. The descriptions given seldom mention the stories of merchants, artisans, or slaves; they are solely focused on exploring the lives of the Egyptian royalty and the pantheon of gods that they worshipped. The social disparity in the study of Ancient Egyptis not the fault of professors, textbooks, or the field of education in general; rather, it is indicative of the deep social divides which were omnipresent in Egyptian society from its initiation. In Western Civilizations: Volume One, the authors confirm the rigid socioeconomic class system of this era: The social pyramid of Old Kingdom Egypt was extremely steep. At its apex stood the Pharaoh and his extended family, whose prestige and power set them entirely apart from all other Egyptians. This strict social structure pursued the Egyptian consciousness, even in death. The Book of the Dead, a collection of spells and incantations to aid a deceased person through the afterlife, contains ample evidence that social classfollowed Egyptian citizens past their mortal existence. In my brief study of Ancient Egypt, I have found evidence in The Book of the Dead to support the claims made by Dr. Symes that Ancient Egyptian society followed a strict social caste ... Hades And Persephone Research Paper The Ancient Greeks lived a life oriented around religion, and this religious centered life came with religious ceremonies to celebrate both men and women s coming of age into adulthood. One interesting rite of passage for both men and women were the Eleusinian mysteries. These mysteries are based and centered on the myth of Hades and Persephone, commonly used as an explanation for the changing of the seasons, but has two other interpretations: the sexual awakening and becoming a woman, and also the idea that is is possible to come back from the afterlife. Hades may not be the end of everyone. Prior to her kidnapping, Persephone had no name and was referred to as Kore, or maiden. Upon being kidnapped by Hades, according to some versions of the myth, the virginal goddesses came to her defense, not wanting to lose one of their own. Demeter, Goddess of Agriculture, falls into mourning at the loss of her daughter, or the prospect of her daughter growing up and becoming a woman. Similarities Between United Nations And Congress Of Vienna United Nations Vs Congress of Vienna The Congress of Vienna wasn t a forerunner to the United Nations because they are focused on rebuilding Europe and keeping peace in Europe. The United Nations, on the other hand, was focused on preserving peace among all nations and helping others out when they are in trouble. Also, the Congress of Vienna tried only to preserve and care about Europe whereas the United Nationsis keeping peace and stability throughout the world. One thing both organizations have in common is they were both formed after wars; the Napoleonic Wars and World War II. The final important reason why the Congress of Vienna shouldn t be looked at as the forerunner of the U.N. is because the United Nations is based in the United States but the Congress of Vienna was made in Austria and only was important to European nations. • 20. History of the Ponzi Scheme Essay History of the Ponzi Scheme Is named after con man Charles Ponzi, a Ponzi scheme is an investment fraud that involves the payment of purported returns to existing investors from funds contributed by new investors.(SEC, 2013) . Typically Ponzi Schemes entice investors with ensuring higher returns rather than alternative investments, in the form of short term returns that are either abnormally high or remarkably consistent. Top broker, Bernie Madoff, was found guilty of this scheme, which will further be discussed below The essential elements of a Ponzi scheme. The SEC s actions and role in the case As long ago as 1999, an independent investigator, Harry Markopolos, concluded that Madoff s success could not be legitimate. In 1995, he sent the US Securities and Exchange Commission a 17 page document titled: The World s Largest Hedge Fund Is a Fraud . As a result of moving often in his formidable years, he was always the new kid. His father, who he described as a workaholic, was often absent. The absence only grew after his parents divorced. Considered a nerd by many of his classmates, even called Spielbug behind his back, he found solace in the world of film. In 1958, to satisfy the quest for a merit badge in Boy Scouts, he made a nine minute video entitled the Last Gunfight. The rest, as they say, is history. I remember telling my mom about it afterward. Here was this kid who was sort of a nerd and wasn t one of the cool guys; he got out there and suddenly he was in charge. • 22. Theme Of Symbolism In Catcher In The Rye The Catcher in the Rye: Prompt 3 In the novel, Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger uses a variety of symbols to support the thematic idea that maturation and the loss of innocence are an inescapable rite of passage for all of humanity. Three significant symbols that signify the importance of alteration and losing one s purity to become more suited to live in the real world are the ducks in the lagoon of Central Park, the Catcher in the Rye , and the carousel and the gold ring. Furthermore, these three symbols hold a significant meaning for the main protagonist, Holden Caulfield as well. Holden, the main character, encounters many moments where he doesn t know where to go or what to do next. To aid him in his decision making, Holden resides with the ducks of Central Park. These ducks are a powerful symbol that the author utilizes in his novel to describe Holden s journey toward maturity. Furthermore, Holden ponders whether the ducks are taken away and put into a zoo to be cared for when the pond freezes at Central Park or if they are abandoned to fly away and fend for themselves. Holden revisits the question of the ducks when he doesn t know if he should return to his parents or learn to live on his own. Constantly, each time the ducks appear in the story, Holden s maturity becomes augmented. For example, I stopped having a conversation with him, if he was going to get so damn touchy about it. When the relationship between Hamlet and his mother is analyzed Freud s oedipal complex theory comes to mind. Sigmund Freud first wrote about his theory in his book An Interpretation of Dreams in 1899. Simply put, Freud states that it is normal for children to have sexual desires for their parent of the opposite sex. An example of this is when Hamlet says: In the rank sweat of an enseamented bed Stew d (3.4 . l. 93 96) It is possible that here Shakespeare wanted to show how Hamlet s rage brought out all his repressed sexually desires for his mother because of Hamlet s concentration on Gertrude s sex life. The significance of the closet scene taking place in Gertrude s bedroom is also important to look at because the privacy and intimacy of the bedroom add a new dimension when Hamlet s and Gertrude s relationship is examined. The study concluded that females experience body dissatisfaction almost solely when they believe they are overweight, whereas both males who believe that they are under or overweight experience body dissatisfaction which can in all cases lead to some level of depression (Chaiton, 2009). With an ongoing problem in society as great as this, many began to question how such an impactful issue can be resolved. How does one s disability affect their political participation within society? How do one s disabilities even interfere with their ability to cast their vote in elections? How can one take steps to further improve one s political participation whether they have physical, mental, or psychosocial disabilities? Currently, not much action has been taken to study or improve the conditions negatively imposed upon those with disabilities. These critical issues will be examined in this study through the use of peer reviewed articles, books, and legislative regulation proving their true impact on their ability to increase political participation for those with disabilities.
