Summary Of Being A Crippled By Nancy Mairs
In the short passage Being a Crippled, Nancy Mairs presents herself as a crippled. she explains the
positives and negatives about being crippled through the use of diction, tone and irony. Mairs is a
courageous woman. With that said is because, she starts the passage with the use of irony. She was
thinking about writingas essay on being crippled. At that time she wasn t crippled. Its ironic how
she was thinking about being crippled then after that thought she became crippled. Mairs continues
on with irony, as she states As a cripple, I swagger. The irony highlights the pride she finds in a
label that others may find as offensive, but she finds truthful and right. Meanwhile, along with the
use of irony, Mairs also

War In Syria Dbq Essay
War in Syria DBQ Essay
In March of 2011, Syrian citizens peacefully protest about the arrest and torture of group of
teenagers who had written anti government graffiti on a wall. Instead of President Bashar al Assad
listening to the people, he responded with violence. This led up to the uprising of rebels, and the
Syrian Civil War. Though what is truly fueling the violence in Syria? One thing that may be fueling
this violence is religion. Religion is a huge part to countries and conflict. In Syria, the background
essay states that, People s ethnic and religious identity began to play an increasingly important in
determining on which side of the conflict they stood. For instance, most Sunnis do not agree with
the Assad regime. Also,

Essay On Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is a day family and friends have a traditional meal including turkey. Thanksgiving
is always held on the fourth Thursday of November every year. It s a very special holiday when
everybody comes together as a family to cook, enjoy, and bless the food, but also to enjoy each
other. In 2015, I had a special ThanksgivingDay dinner that left me full of joy.
On Thanksgiving Day every year, my family and I normally rent a building that s twenty minutes
away from my house. The building is located in Church Point, Louisiana. It is a Community
Center at the park. The inside of the building is huge. It has a kitchen area in the back of the
building. Inside of the kitchen it has a large island and cabinets stuff full of pots, pans, and
utensils. We had two long tables in the back by the kitchen to put the food on. The deejay is
placed in the front by the entrance. Between the kitchen and the deejay were chairs and tables
placed for people to eat their food. There were placed a variety of tables that came in different
shapes and colors. As I walked around the building, I noticed yellow, brown, and orange tables.
The chairs had chair covers on them that were the same colors of yellow, brown, and orange,
which are colors that you would see in November that had different meanings. Yellow is the corn,
brown is the turkey and orange is a pumpkin.
As Thanksgiving Day approaches each year slowly, my family and friends are on their way to
Louisiana. Most of my family are from

Essay on Import Substitution Industrialization
Around the 1930s, Brazil and Latin American began following the process of Import Substitution
Industrialization, which lasted until the end of the 1980s. The ISI policies devaluated the currency
in order to boost exports and discourage imports, followed by adopting different exchange rates for
goods (Watkins). ISI in Brazilhad an interesting effect; it created a three prong system of
governmental, private, and foreign capital being directed at the infrastructure and heavy industry,
manufacturing goods, and the production of durable goods. The program worked at first but then
became a serious economic problem. When the 1980s came around Brazil realized that ISI policies
lead to inefficient industries because of their lack of exposure to... Show more content on

This helped keep the inflation low and with the high interest rates, a lot of foreign capital began to
flow into the country. The government s actions in the military dictatorship made it difficult for
Brazil to attract foreign capital however; the Government under the Real Plan had a strong focus on
the balance of payments and tried to maintain a positive influx of capital into the nation by
appeasing the international public and to improve the economy (Joffe Watt). The Real Plan helped
the economy so much that it began gaining value against the US currency, however in the late
1990s the currency began to devaluate. For the Real Plan to keep working the currency had to
appreciate with the economy, this would assure a constant supply of foreign capital and products
that maintained the market stable.
Following the Real Plan, Brazil had a minor economic downturn but after 2002, the economy has
been increasing at a steady pace. The economy was able to grow around 4% in 2000, however the
issues in Argentina in 2001 and the uncertainty of whom the next president would be created a
confidence crisis in the economy. However in 2002 when Luis InГЎcio Lula da Silva (Lula) won
the election most of the issues about his presidency went thrown out because of his policies. Even
though Lula had very liberal policies he began making Brazil look

The Executive s And Outliers Were Red Flags For The Enron...
Enron was facing risks, risks from every angle. You can see from the history to the demise of the
company everything was based on risk. Even when it came to the personal lives of those in
charge, you can find some type of risk. Being a Houston native, I did not quite understand the
reaction to Enron. I did not understand why it went so far as to changing the name of a stadium
from Enronto Minute Maid Park. I was only a teen at the time, but now I am not. I now hope to
explain my opinion on how the past, the executive s and outliers were red flags prior to the Enron
crisis. My thoughts on how they could have handled the matter. Lastly, express what I would have
done if I was an executive or general council to such a company.
Above I stated that risks were everywhere in the case of Enron. The custom is that in order to
stay in business one must take a risk. I agree that this is essential when done with good intentions
and business practices. This is something that lacked in Enron before the bigger crisis emerged.
The first red flag for me would have been the Valhalla Scandal . This showed the true character
and intentions of Kenny Lay. Which were to get as much money as he could no matter the
legality of the practices and who suffers. This shows that some of the risks taken by Lay were not
the best, for his company or employees. Since the employee was doing the illegal work, and
producing funding. The employee is also who ended up in jail.

Positive And Negative Effects Of Religion
Religion is like the numerous amount of languages that exist in the world, diverse and culturally
diffused. Not subject to any one specific group of people or era in time. Religion is a way for
people to express their beliefs, it s a style of living, a way of life that people decide to adopt and
live even throughout many obstacles imposed by society. Even when said obstacles were negative,
and degrading, people in history chose to prevail while simultaneously standing up for their beliefs.
Thankfully the United Stateshas given people the right to practice any religionof their choice freely
and safely, but it hasn t always been like this. Religion has had positive and negative effects on
politics, society, and the economy all throughout history, some more significant than others.
Religion hasn t always been a right that every american citizen is granted, many were neglected
this right. From the colonial times in America, only 1 of the 13 colonies that would later become
the U.S, gave their citizens the right to worship there god or practice their religion of choice.
Most colonies appointed a church for the state, and everyone had to pay and participate at this
church, no matter their religious preference or beliefs, everyone was subjected to follow this rule.
Many disagree with this statement, by declaring that people had the right to worship the god of
their choice due to the creation of The Maryland Toleration Act of 1649. This document is
presumed by many to have

Term Limits
Living in the present and looking back at the past, we as citizens see what has worked and what
can be improved; Congress is a good example of this. Some may say that Congress is a failure
and some may be happy and proud of the way it functions and runs our country. For those who do
not approve of it, the idea is to start fresh and get new ideas, people and habits into office. With
the way Congress works today, that may not be the easiest tasks. In order to make changes in
Congress, time is needed; a significant change cannot be made over night and expect it to run
smoothly. One of the ways to bring change and settle the debate of whether or not to restart
Congress is to set term limits on congressional members. There should be term... Show more

Pork barrel spending, special interest of their own state, and how can they make themselves look
good are thing that will be on their mind at some point. Setting term limits would allow Congress
to become more of a citizen Congress because more everyday people, not just the wealthy, would
be running for office (balancedpolitics.org). New Politian s would not have time to find loop
holes or exploit the system because they would be focusing on what they need to get done in
order to make their constituents happy. One of the major benefits to term limits is the potential
for new ideas rolling through Congress, and Politian s with a more focused mind set. The
founding fathers did their part of making sure no one person is given too much power by ensuring
that the United States has checks and balances. The 22nd Amendment has contributed to the
checks and balances by limiting presidents to two terms in office. Term limits should also be in
place for congressional members. This may be another way to ensure no congressional member
ever has too much power within the government. Candidates would be running for the purpose to
the serve people and not to just benefit themselves. Term limits would also stop the political reward
and power abuse within Congress, leading to committees being assigned to individuals based on
merit and their expertise to make informed decisions. Doing all

Personal Narrative-Defining Moment
Ms. Napholz made us write these paragraphs on someone we have memories with. So, I decided
to chose you since we have so many awesome memories together. I know that you will think this is
very lame but I had to chose someone. Hopefully you will enjoy revisiting some of these moments
we had together.
About 5 years ago you were snowmobile racing, and you were doing super good until you
crashed. You were racing with Dalton. I remember it was very cold outside and it was in early
January. It was one of the last races of the night; you went off the edge of the track. The
snowmobile went as high as the light fixtures; it was terrifying. Everyone ran over to you to check
and see if you were okay. The medics arrived and took you in an ambulance to the nearest hospital.
The doctors said that you had broken 5 vertebrates and shattered your tailbone. You were on bed
rest for many months but ended up having a great recovery.
The first maybe 12 years of our lives together you were pretty mean to me. You would make wait
3 feet behind you for the bus, wait to get inside, push me in the snow, and overall just harass me.
These are just a few of the hundreds of ridiculous, cruel things I had to deal with. However, I
believe this made us closer. Now we get along great and I don t know where I would be without
you. You ve made me a stronger person and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparing Poe And Hitchcock s Use Of Suspense
Poe and Hitchcock have published numerous stories and movies that follow the same guidelines.
Poe s poems and writings are very dark and mysterious, he draws you in with depression or
suspension that builds terror. Hitchcock is the same way, he develops terror through his movies
by building suspense to create a horror movie. Hitchcock and Poe developed their pieces with
suspense to build terror in similar and deferent ways by using literary devices and mise en scene.
Within Poe s writings he uses a vast amount of imagery to symbolize main concepts, as well as, to
explain what is happening in depth to the reader or audience. Hitchcock demonstrates the same
technique except he uses the lighting when making his films. In Poe s story The Masque... Show

This device develops suspense because the reader is unaware of the outcome or the possible
twist. Most people do not realize the foreshadowing done until the climax is relied. In The
House of Usher, Poe foreshadows the sister s , of the main characters, death is false through
numerous word plays. She was never dead, but un responsive, until finally she is alive and after
them. I did actually hear (laugh from what direction it proceeded I found it impossible to say) a
low and apparently distant, but harsh, protracted, and most unusual scream and granting sound
(Poe 22). This line from Poe, foreshadows that the sister will wake, and that she will be
overturned by the events that unraveled. By Poe foreshadowing her wake and revenge, he leaves
the reader analyzing the future, building the suspense for what may or may not happen, and this
suspense build terror within the story and the reader. Hitchcock does the same technique in his
film The Birds but instead he uses music within the film. In the movie, birds attack the town and
kill or injure the townspeople. During one scene at the school, the children keep singing a song
that has really long chorus that gets creepier and creepier as the keep singing. While they sing, the
film makers use jump cuts to show the school then how the birds keep collecting around the school
( The Birds). The music and cuts bind together to create suspense and horror because the audience
knows something horrific and terrible is going to

Moral Responsibility In King Henry s War
Morally Responsible Character Development Responsibility in war isn t always abundantly clear
and Shakespeare uses King Henry s dynamic character to highlight that issue. Shakespeare uses
this heavily metaphysical discussion of moral responsibility in war to symbolize a permanence
in Henry s maturity by critically analyzing the position as seen by the king himself and his
soldiers. The discussion between King Henry and his soldiers ultimately discusses one deep
question: who is responsible for who in war? The soldiers themselves, especially Captain Bates,
deem themselves responsible for their physical allegiance to the king and if his cause be wrong,
[their] obedience to the King wipes the crime of it out of them (145). According to the Captain, if
Henry s cause for war is an unjust one, any ill becoming end that befalls them is on the conscience
of the king.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
. . Besides, there is no king, be his cause never so spotless . . . can try it out with all unspotted
soldiers. Now, if these men have defeated the law and outrun native punishment, they have no
wings to fly from God . . . Then, if they die unprovided, no more is the King guilty of their
damnation than he was guilty of those impieties for the which they are now visited. Every
subject s duty is the King s, but every subject s soul is his own (147). Henry knows that every
soldier in his army is guilty to some degree of some transgression, however minor; proof of this
lies in his soldiers Scroop, Grey and Cambridge who were guilty of treason against the king. But to
claim that Henry himself is responsible for their judgement in death is a ludicrous proposition: his
only responsibility is to ensure that his soldiers fight like soldiers. Any end that befalls them is
through only their own

The Persuaders Rhetorical Analysis
When I was a kid in school, I was told that there were the basic things that you needed like clothes
and food and there were the things that you maybe want but don t really need. Advertisements
do not have any effects on what we need. We don t watch and add about how we need to eat
food to stay alive; we have hunger for that. However, Advertisements greatly affect what we
want. Do we want basic cereal or the fancy kind that athletes promote, or can we live with a plain
shirt or do we want the one with a guy riding a horse emblem? These want that stray away from
our basic needs are all driven by advertisement. No one is born wanting a Gucci shirt, they are
taught and conditioned to want one. The Frontline documentary, The Persuaders , delves into the
world of advertisement in order to explore different aspects of the industry that drives our desire....

After watching the film it is evident that the interaction between advertisements and consumers is
similar to the interactions between media and audiences. This is because advertisement is
inherently a form of media, but instead of trying to interaction the audience, it propagates a
propaganda for a specific item. You can look at the theories about mass media consumption and
apply it to advertisements. For example, in the dawn of mass media it was thought that the
hypodermic needle theory, or magic bullet theory, was how audiences reacted to the media. This
theory stated that when an audience consumed a certain facet of media like a radio talk show, the
media content would be directly injected into the audience. Therefore, the audience would
automatically respond to the stimuli. In this way the first advertisements were just information that
stated that something was better than another product in the hope that, like an injection, the
information would cause the audience to go out and buy their

Cleopatra Argumentative Essay
What would you do if you were a queen, locked in a tomb with the one you loved bleeding to
death in your arms? You would try to save him, but you couldn t, because your enemies have
surrounded your palace. They would see you humiliated, defeated, and broken. Cleopatra s life was
one of dreams, romance, and war. When it all came crumbling around her, she stood tall...a butterfly
flying against the wind, with the whole world against her.
There is not much known about Cleopatra s life before she came to the throne in 51 B.C. (Stanley,
Vennema 1). As was custom, Cleopatra joint ruled with her oldest brother Ptolemy. However since
Ptolemy was still very young, he had advisors who heavily influenced his decisions and they
ultimately drove Cleopatra away from the throne in 48 B.C. (Stanley, Vennema 1). Determined to
fight, civil war seemed inevitable, but the arrival of a famous Roman general Julius Caesar stopped
war dead in it s tracks. (Cleopatra Encyclopedia). Both king and queen wanted the general as an
ally, but Caesar wanted them to make peace with each other, so they all arranged to meet at the
palace. Ptolemy came but his advisors were afraid Cleopatra might win Caesars support, so they
had the palace surrounded with a kill orders on the queen if she tried to come in. Cleopatra was

Emily Dickinson Light
I ve enjoyed Emily Dickinson s number 258 poem ( There s a certain Slant of light ) because the
poem main theme is a distinguished light that occurs only on winter afternoons. The speaker
describes this light as being uncomfortable or anxious as the word he uses to describe it is
oppresses . Then she goes on comparing this oppression to the heft of cathedral tunes, which in my
opinion is contradictory. But knowing that Dickinson s view of religion was somewhat
controversial, she describes that this lightthat only happens during winter afternoons is as heavy on
her as the sounds of a chapels songs. Then the poem goes on detailing how this light may affects
the speaker, but it leaves no scar behind. Furthermore, as soon as the winter afternoon

The Role Of Conspiracy And Conspiratorial Thinking On...
The role of conspiracy and conspiratorial thinking in generating and intensifying the French
Revolution was very great to the affect it very much, bringing much fear to the public. The
actions of the king, queen to make these fears to be risen were things; i.e. the bringing of the
troops, army to Paris, the tramping of people that were protesting by the soldiers, and the fear
that the kings, nobles were going to stop the revolution from happening. During the time of the
revolution, there were many fears going on at the same time, and mostly dealing with the army,
troops coming into Paris. These fears were increasing by the actions of the king and him
ordering the troops to come to Paris. What the king didn t know about what he was doing was
that he was going to make it worse, and having revolts would come from this order. What made
the king bring the troops to Paris, was that he wanted to make sure to have control over the
crowds from food riots from the rising grain prices, them not having enough bread to feed the
people of Paris, and bring back of order to the city. This action of having them on standby, was in
the minds of the people was increasing fear of the army, when they were moving closer to the
city. What the people thought of this actions, was a conspiracy against them. The kind of the fears
they had were of the other side, and it was escalating very fast, and it was becoming more violated
over time. What else brought them fear, was their hero, Necker was fired

Compare And Contrast John Stuart Mill And Karl Marx
In the conceptualization of the predominant 19th century political thought process, none if any
were more influential than John Stuart Mill and Karl Marx. Both were philosophers, sociologists,
economists and political thinkers, but each held unique views towards the ideal government, to
freedom, and to the impact of the industrial revolution. Each discussed some of the ramifications of
the industrial revolution, and the ways in which the government can be re aligned for greater social
prosperity. John Stuart Mill(1806 1873) advocated for Liberalism, a system in which libertyand
equality would remain at the forefront of all political proposals, and representative interests.
Mill celebrated individuality, and the ability to not conform to a higher power. In contrast to
Mill, Karl Marx (1818 1883) was a revolutionary socialist who advocated for a complete social
revolution throughout society, in an effort to counter the ill perceived effects of capitalism.
Marx s central tenet relied upon the fact that he sought to abolish private property, and
monopolies, so as to enable all individuals to acquire an equitable means of living. Marx s belief
was that capitalism forces the economy into constantly being exploited, which in turn leads to
recessions. Mill believed that all power should be allocated to the individual; whereas Marx
believed that bestowing such power within a socialist regime would allow for the creation of a
truly egalitarian society. This paper will analyze how

The casting of the actors was good and was interesting to see the Woman being the stronger of
the three giving out the orders and how her decision was always final and always looking for
someone to blame, didn t like it when she was wrong and was quite physically strong as she
attacks one of her friends as she finds out he through the map in the pond. She is also the last to
crack but when she does she loses her sense of power and is more feminism with her tears
creating emotion and weakness with the stress of the situation and losing one of the three
teenagers as they wake up they ve disappeared. This role was clear and believable but didn t work
very well as women are still seen as being protected by the men like in all the scream films there is
a woman as a stereotypical type victim.
Propp s theory applies to this film the villain or malefactor being the Blair witch, there is no hero
as the characters end in their bloody deaths in a small house, the donor is the sources from the
locals about the Blair witch, the princess is the three teenagers, the false hero is the girl as she
tries but fails, the Blair witch is also the dispatcher. This theory clearly shows that the teenagers
seek to where they shouldn t ending with their bloody deaths so there is no hero

and family and an opportunity to engage simultaneously in more than one endeavor, e.g., school

Temporary workers, those hired for a specific, usually short term, assignment, are also increasing in
numbers.Businesses that have cyclical staffing needs, e.g., retailers, construction companies, and
those that have unpredictable demands, e.g., high tech companies, are frequent users of
temporary workers. About 10 12 percent of Hewlett Packards workers, for example, are temps
(Galvin 1998). Some companies have such extensive needs for temporary workers that they
employ temporary agencies to hire, train, and manage these workers. One such company,
American Precision Plastics in Colorado, reports that 90 percent of their 180 plant workers are
temporary (Lief 1997, p. 86). The results of a survey conducted by the W. E. Upjohn Institute
showed the following configuration of temporary workers used by the 550 establishments
surveyed for the study (Houseman 1997, p. 6): 46% use workers from temporary help agencies;
38% use short term hires; 72% use regular part time workers; 27% use on call workers; and 44%
use independent contract workers. Typically, these workers receive lower wages and few, if any,
benefits, thereby lowering employers costs.
These employer initiated flexible staffing arrangements, although appealing to many workers, are
designed to satisfy the needs of the employer. Flexible scheduling arrangements, increasing in the

technology have apparent strongholds in the realm of stock trading, more people have access to the
market. This essay shares some experiences that online stock trading services and day traders have
had due to the radical movement of online trading. The essay commences with a fictional anecdote
that describes one man s unfortunate experience through online trading. It then moves to some non
fictional examples. One company was forced to leave the prospect of trading behind and had to
close its services. Another has found refuge in expanding its holdings by moving its primary focus
away from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But soon, many investors would realize that this wasn t the case.
Jon was one of these would be investors. He found internet stock trading as a way to break into
the stock trading game but the game was not kind to him or his finances. In 1998, he created an
account with an online stockbroker, which made trading easier. There was no consultation with a
professional broker and stocks could be bought and sold at the click of a button. In addition, the
stock market s boom was kind to investors. Stocks in technology seemed to be always on the rise.
Jon invested. He took three thousand dollars and invested under the impression that his money
would double or perhaps triple. A mere two years later, these internet and technological companies
experienced a realization.
They were vulnerable to an economic decline. In March and April of 2000, the technology boom
was no more. In fact, it imploded: it collapsed in upon itself. Investors are still trying to quantify
the damages and costs. Jon s small portfolio was at the mercy of the technology implosion. He too
became a loser in the investing game. His family savings was not doubled as he hoped, but rather,
worth only a couple hundred dollars. Now, he is not sure where to turn: I thought I had made the
right decision. I saw an opportunity to help my family and our financial status and jumped on it. I
never saw the true risk involved. Technology was hot. Who could

Mission Statement And Objectives And Intentions Of A Business
Mission Statement The mission statement displays the purpose of a company in the market. It also
serves as reference for the objectives and intentions of a business. According to Kokemuller (n.d), A
mission statement offers insight into what company leaders view as the primary purpose for being
in business. Some companies have profit motivated missions, while others make customers a focal
point (para. 2). This paper will provide the mission statementdeveloped for my chosen organization.
The developed mission statement is based on a careful analysis of therapeutic benefits that
consumers demand to improve their health and wellness. Also, this paper analyses existing and
anticipated environment conditions that can influence the success or the general operations of this

Black or White
The ongoing struggle to fight the skin color prejudice in the contemporary American society is
portrayed in Michael Jackson s song Black or White. Whereas the racism is defined as a superior
behavior against other race thus making it inferior, the singer refers to this term as See, it s not
about races, just places, faces, where your blood comes from is where your space is. Michael
Jackson, one of the most influential artists in the music industry, calls for equality in how people
view and behave towards each other. The question, which this master thesis investigates, does it
matter if you re black or white, is clearly answered by the singer: It don t matter if you re black or
white. Jackson was trying to influence his society to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So the race and color of your skin does matter in modern times. My analyses of selected books,
academic journals, films and music video will concentrate and argue if Americans indeed
discriminate against race or if it is history and no longer exists in American life. First, I would
like to take into consideration the iconic Michael Jackson, one of the greatest, perhaps the
greatest singer and performer of the 21st century. Not only his songs deserve a closer look, but
also his lifestyle ideas, fears and the public opinion. Black or White by Michael Jackson and Bill
Bottrell is a one of the greatest singles in Michael s career. It was released on November 11,
1991. What inspired Michael to particularly select these two topics? Black or white as implied in
the song, he sings about skin color. Songs starts in Africa, possibly showing Jackson s beginning
he is black. In one of the scenes, Michael sings I ain t scared of no sheets; I ain t scared of
nobody while he is walking through fire images which is being compared to KKK and its torch
ceremonies. Here, he is portraying his painful vision of KKK and its vision. Later, the performers
sing I m not gonna spend my life being a color. What a great statement. Michael, throughout his
whole life and his career, shows us his inner and constant fight for a non racial

Renewable Energy And Natural Gas
Finally, the last form of power generation to be examined before the moral analysis is renewable
energy, for example wind and solar power. Renewable energy is the least established method of
generating electricity and is therefore still heavily tied up in research. By definition, renewable
energy sources have a theoretically limitless amount of energy production since they do not deplete
any resources through their use. This means that for as many years as humans inhabit the earth they
can use renewable energies, such as solar, wind, hydro power or others, which has much more
potential than the 100 years for coal and natural gas. Renewable energyalso has fewer negative
environmental impacts since it does not directly release any... Show more content on

One utilitarian approach used to determine which act is most ethical, is cost benefit analysis. This
analysis compares the potential benefits against the costs (financial, physical risks etc.) of possible
decisions. For choosing which energy source the public should invest money in and engineers
should invest research in, the criterion detailed above are compared. For cost benefit analysis,
shown in Table 1, the effect on future generations is incorporated at the same value as the effect on
current generations. For the cost criterion, renewable energy is currently the least beneficial in
regards to price to the public, cost of updating current technologies, researching new technologies,
and implementing new infrastructure. Natural gas has lower costs related to infrastructure and
technology changes than renewable energy, but when compared to coal, it has higher public cost as
well as higher implementation costs. Consequently, for the greatest amount of happiness for people,
which is related to lower costs, coal is the best energy source. Furthermore, natural gas has a much
higher efficiency than renewables and coal, which have similar efficiencies. Human fulfilment,
coming from happiness in the utilitarian theory, relates to the best/most effective use of resources,
i.e. people do not like to waste time or money. Therefore, natural gas, with

Dbq Loyalists Essay
Loyalists In between 1760 and 1800, conflict ensued between Great Britain and the American
colonies, now the United States. Because of certain events and documents, those who had not
chosen a side would have benefitted more if indecisive individuals become loyal to the British
crown. Those who obeyed to Great Britain were known as loyalists, or, according to the DBQ

because of Great Britain s power and strength, economic superiority, and that the patriots are of
barbaric and violent nature. Also, the patriots were not ready to start a revolution even though they

Continental Dollar. Furthermore, at around 1781, it can be inferred that the Continental Dollar

This fear can carry with them to adulthood, which may be why many teenagers and adults run

Khoisan Superiority
For a long time South Africa was inhabitable until a group known as the Khoisan traveled there,
where they lived for many years as the superior group until the group known as the Afrikaners
came and took that superiority. A Little while after the Afrikaners came is when things really
started to change. They started developing superiority over the Khoisan. Some reasons for this
are that they started to develope an early sense of dominance over the Khoisan and The Battle of
Blood River. The Afrikaners developed an early state of dominance by taking land and cattle
from the Khoisan. This was because when Jan van Riebeeck had to lay of men they needed
somewhere to live so he gave the men 28 acres of land that was used by the Khoisan. As a result
Khoisan tried to fight back ,but didn t stand a chance against the Afrikaners who had much better
weapons like guns. The Khoisan then realized that they wouldn t stand a chance and that they

The Effects Of Simulation On The Nursing Education System
Simulation is has been adopted in the nursing education system, as a technique to curb common and
dangerous occurrences that ensues in the health care system. After graduation and upon gaining
employment in a hospital, nurses ought to be familiar with the fast paced and intense hospital
setting, while executing various nursing practices, which includes clinical competence, timely
decision making, critical thinking, efficient and professional human interaction. They are various
form of simulation, which includes high fidelity simulation, mid fidelity simulation, the use of
simulated patients. These systems employ the use of mannequins, computer programs, and vide
games. These tools have the ability to carry out realistic physiologic responses like respiration,
pulses, heart sounds, and breath sounds, urinary out put and pupil reaction. The use of these
simulations help students builds essential skills like effective teamwork, competent decision
making, for the benefit of avoiding major medical errors in the hospital. The biggest advantage of
simulation is that students get the opportunity to hone on the clinical skills, but without having to
work on actual patient, this is important because patient s health is not compromised. However, the
system faces some limitations, as it becomes difficult achieving optimum student training because
of the unrealistic setting.

Characteristics of Dolphins
The majority of small tooth whales are called dolphins. Dolphins are mammals of the order
Cetacean and the families Plantanistidae and Delphinidae and include about 50 species (Internet 1).
Most dolphin species are about 6 feet in length, the males averaging 4 to 8 inches longer than
females. The longest dolphin, the bottle nose dolphin, can reach over nine feet in length and weight
up to 440 pounds. The smallest dolphin species is the buffalo which is found in the Amazon

A dolphin s normal cruising speed is about 23 to 25 mph, and if they are bow riding, they have
been known to get up to 30mph. Because dolphins are mammals (warm blooded) their internal
temperature is between 97.9o to 99of. They normally come to the surface to breathe about every
two minutes. Each breath consists of a short, almost explosive exhalation, followed by a slightly
longer inhalation. Dolphins can hold their breath for up to several minutes and are capable of rapid
and deep dives of more then 1,000 ft. Dolphins once were hunted commercially, for the small
quantity of valuable oil extracted from parts of the head and used to lubricated delicate watch
mechanisms. Since cheaper oils have now been found from other sources, dolphins are no longer
hunted for this reason. Many dolphins, however, become accidentally trapped and drowned in tuna

Essay about Journey Of The Magi
T.S. Eliot s Journey of the Magi
This Christmas poem is about the Epiphany and was created the very year of Eliot s conversion to
Christianity (Fleisner, 66). Therefore the theme of religion is an important one if we are to analyse
the poem correctly. In the book of Ephesians in the Bible, Paul describes the rebirth of the world
upon Christ s death, emphasising the Ephesians new life (2:4 5). This theme of death and rebirth is
present in the poem Journey of the Magi, which, I will argue, is structurally and internally divided
into three stages; corresponding to the Sacrament of Penance: contrition (guilt), confession and
satisfaction.
To understand this poem, one has to understand the impact that Christ had on the World. At the time

the primary aspect of satisfaction (the fulfilment of penance) in stanza two, but rather the secondary

representing the Magi, but also the three crosses of the Crucifixion, as line 27 suggests, of the
Roman soldiers dicing for Jesus robe and the amp;quot;old white horse, amp;quot; (line 25)

However, the white horse could subsequently be associated with death, evoking images of the

The Land Of Opportunity For Immigrants
The Land of Opportunity Immigrants created America, a nation that has embraced immigration.
Throughout the years, America developed its American Dream concept, which states that anyone
can succeed in the United States as long as that person works hard and does gives up. That concept,
hope or dream attracts thousands of individuals, many of which leave their native countries with
their hearth full of hope and the illusion of reaching and living the American Dream. However, the
wonderful dream in many occasions has become nothing but a horrible and unbearable nightmare.
They arrive to the land of opportunity that they thought was awaiting for them with fortune and
instead encounter a divided society, in which some people understand their plight and sympathize
with them while other look at them with anger, resentment, and even hate as if they are anything
but human beings. To understand the struggle that many immigrants suffer in their quest for a
better life, we have to either be an immigrant, be the descendant of one or become close to one;
otherwise, we might not understand their experience enough to relate to them and what it meant to
leave their country, family and friends behind. Since both legal and illegal immigration exists in
America, our society ought to learn about immigration, what causes it, and what it contributes to
our nation s prosperity. I believe immigrants are essential to the well being of the nation for several
reasons. One reason that

The Impact Of Historic Events On The Social Environment...
identity can change over time in a society with the effects of historic events, changes in the social
environment and the active participation of the people to create new social constructs and
institutions. In order for nationalism to even start several prerequisites had to be met. These were
the creation of a print system for books to be created. These books would spread the ideas of
nationalism, the enlightenment and other philosophical movements across the world. Next is the
capitalist system which would naturally seek to reach a larger audience and thus a larger profit
margin which lead to the development of the vernacular print. Print in vernacular allowed for
regular people to read the ideas printed in the books and understand them, which ultimately spread
the ideas and values of these cognitive revolutions to the common man. These changes to written
language changed its role forever. In the past, written language was reserved specifically for the
political, intellectual, or religious elite. The religious elite especially relied on the control of the
written word to control and influence the thoughts of the masses, and this was true for most, if not
all religions across the world. A consequence of written language being used by the common people
to spread the ideas of the enlightenment allowed for the dismantlement of the concept of rule by
divine right. The spread of rationalism in turn encouraged the use of rational discourse amongst the

Social Phobia Disorder And Social Anxiety Disorder Essay
Many people get nervous during uncomfortable events that include social interaction. Nerves can
sometimes trigger anxiety during classroom interactions, job interviews, or other social events. It
is almost normal to stand in front of a crowd and feel like you re being judged constantly and
tremble. There is a major difference between nerves and an anxietydisorder. When someone
sufferers with social anxiety, they normally avoid situations that allow them to feel judged by
others. I believe that social phobia can be resolved in some individuals but, not for everyone. The
fearof embarrassment or judgment among a crowd is so overwhelming that people with this
disorder try their best to avoid the situation. For people with this disorder, extreme measures to
avoid these uncomfortable situations seem more fortunate than facing the fear itself. According to
The Nemours Foundation, we can assume that what causes social phobia is partly due to our
genetic makeup along with other aspects.
Social phobia disorder is the least known of all anxiety disorders. Social phobia disorder, also
called social anxiety disorder, is known to appear in people who fear observation in public

during social occasions. People with this disorder tend to appear self conscious in uncomfortable

amazing shinning objects everyone talks about, but not all see. Self concept and
perception work the same way. Through interpersonal communication we relate,

Self concept is a term used to refer to how someone thinks about or perceives
themselves. How we think about and evaluate ourselves and how aware we are of
ourselves as a concept to be. A more stable definition is, as Baumeister provides, the
individual s belief about himself or herself, including the person s attributes and who and

loose himself in the conversation. Like in any type of communication, there s a chance
that the intended meaning is lost. Specially, when people try to express their feelings
the meanings get wrongly perceived. A person might want to break up a relationship but
in a nice and mature way, so they try to smooth the situation and be sensitive about not
saying something dry that can hurt its partner. But, if it is too sensitive and too nice, the
meaning could get wrongly perceived and the recipient might think its just an issue they
will get over easily, when the point totally was not that.
Perception is someone s reality, it determines how they perceive information from
another person and how the perception of others is the product of how you view
yourself. Perception can be learned, physical or cultural depending on your
environment.
They type of learned perception is formed with someone s personality, from the
thoughts, ideas and beliefs that are taught. For example, when a child communicates
and transmits information with his parents, the parent s personality traits, beliefs and
ethics of life will reflect in the kid. He

The Three Major Chemical Bonds
So here we are talking about the three types major chemical bonds. NaCl is an ionic bond
because chlorine does not share any electrons with sodium to form a bond. There are two
different types of covalent bonds non polar and polar covalent bonds. So ionic bonds are
basically the electronegativity is larger then its more polar. Non polar bonds have the same
electronegativity which makes them share an equal pair share of the bond. Polar bonds have a
different electronegativity which makes it have an unequal share of the bonds. Some of the
characteristics for covalent bonds are bond length and bond polarity. The definition for bond length
is the identity of the bond and seeing if it is singled, doubled, or tripled bond. Bond polarity means

Assyrian King Sennacherib Research Paper
In 701 BCE, the Assyrian king Sennacherib led a campaign across the ancient Near East to gain
tribute from the people living therein, as well as to punish Judah s King Hezekiah for supporting
an insurgency by Egypt and Babylonia. In order to get what he wanted, Sennacherib laid siege to
46 cities between Assyriaand Jerusalem. A prime example of this is Lachish, the second largest city
in Judah after Jerusalem. The sacking of Lachish is considered to be Sennacheribs biggest feat, and
he vividly describes his accomplishments in taking Lachish on the walls of his Assyrian palace.
Town to town, he made his way towards Jerusalem, leaving a trail of death and destruction in his
wake.
Hearing that Sennacherib was on his way, Hezekiah began to fortify, prey, and plan for the
inevitable extended siege that was approaching. With an impressive show of ancient engineering,
Hezekiah extended the tunnels that served as the water carrying network in order to supply
Jerusalem with water for an extended period of time without requiring men to leave the city walls.
He also built up stockpiles of grain and other staples in order to guarantee the safety of the ... Show

Nebuchadnezzar had Zedekiah s sons killed in plain sight of the king, who was then summarily

Roman Republic Democratic
The Roman constitution has three elements, but their share of power was so well regulated
people are still unsure whether the republic was a democracy (A democracy is a system of
government in which people have the right to empower rules, usually through representatives) or
more of an aristocracy (a form of government where the authority is held by the nobility) or a
despotism (a form of government where the ruler has absolute power). Rome s Republic lasted
between 509 BC to 30 BC, which is 479 years. Rome had three divisions in their government that
were the consul, senate, and the assembly. Rome s Republic was not very democratic because they
only elected prosperous, men, to hold high spots in the office, voting rights were restricted to some
individuals, and the magistrates were in control of the military, but didn t actually fight in the
military.
Indeed many of men in the Republic of Rome that voted were rich, lucrative men. How easily a
small number of urban residents registered in a rural tribe could determine the vote of that tribe is
clear from the small percentage of citizens who voted. This states that only a small number of
urban residents registered in a rural tribe could determine the vote because so few received the
high spots in the office which gave them the vote since they were near the area to vote. ... Show

their clients who could afford the time and expenses to come to Rome to vote. In just the same
way as before this is highly unfair and unlike a democracy because it is Rome as Rome expanded it
was challenging for people to move to Rome due to the unpleasantness it takes to transport them
there just to vote. Voting for everyone is a truly important part of fair rights to all people and you

The Civil Litigation Process
The civil litigation process goes through many steps and is very time consuming. During the
pretrial, it starts with pleadings where the complaint from the plaintiff and the answer from the
defendant are submitted. It then leads into discoveries, pretrial motions and settlement
conferences. When it goes to trail there are even more steps including jury selection, each party
pleads their case, rebuttals and arguments, and lastly deliberations and the verdict. This process
requires a lot of money and time, and is not necessary for every case. Some cases, such as,
business disputes or divorces, do not need to go through the same process are more serious cases.
I believe all courts should have a required alternative dispute resolution to save people

Compare And Contrast The Southern Colonies
Southern Colonies Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia Virginia was
the first successful southern colony, Maryland became at first a catholic experiment and then
quickly mirrored Virginia for its cash crops. The Carolinas had been created after the english civil
war ended. Challenges from France and Spain led the king to want a buffer zone between the cash
crop Carolinas and enemies, thus Georgia was created. Southern colonies depended on slaves
whether it was for the economy, society, or their own personal needs. Southerners who did not have
slaves still depended on them just on the soul fact that they were beneath them and made them feel
better about their place in society. The economy in the south depended on slavery for the cotton
growing areas and slave trading. Slavery played an important role in all of the Southern colonies.

loved one s body as if it is still alive. But she realizes the death, until his body is taken away and
not treated with the love she gave him. Even though her husband has passed away, the speaker
seems to still have a relationship with him through the description of her delicate treatment
towards him. The relationship between the wife and husband is still alive. Through the
description of the poem we see that the wife does not see her husband as a dead body. She treats
her husband s body as something alive that feels every touch. In the middle of the first stanza,

Criminalization of Poverty in Capitalist America Essay
An anonymous poet in the 1700 s wrote about crime: The law will punish a man or woman who
steals the goose from the hillside, but lets the greater robber loose who steals the hillside from
the goose. [l] When talking about the greater robber it seemed particularly appropriate in the
midst of the biggest financial rip off in history of this country to think about the billions of dollars
the Savings Loan criminals stole, and about how most of them have gotten away with it. I thought
about the complete insanity of how this country defines crimes in society. If you steal $5 you re a
thief, but if you steal $5 million you re a financier. Thirty percent of the wealth of this country is

Hence the power to define is an awesome power. It is the power of propaganda. It is the ability
to manipulate our ideas, to limit our agenda, to mold how we see, and to shape what we look at.
It is the power to interpret the picture we see when we look at the world for the American
people in general, and New Afrikans, in particular. It is the power to place the picture we see
when we look at the world. It is the power to place a frame around the picture, to define where it
begins and ends. It is, in fact, the power to define where our vision begins and ends, the power to
create our collective consciousness. That kind of social propaganda is not only tremendously
powerful, but it is also mostly invisible. We can t fight what we don t see. Most people accept the
images and definitions that we have been taught as true, neutral, self evident, and for always; so
that the power to paint the future, to define what is right and wrong, what is lawful and what is
criminal, is really the power to win the battle for our minds. And to win it without ever having to
fight it. Simply said, it is hard to fight an enemy who has an outpost in our minds. This indicates the
need for revolutionary nationalists to develop a national agitationpropaganda mechanism.
Specifically, nationalist need a single national publication and organ that represents the unified
development of NAIM (The New African Independence Movement) to which

Service Shows More than Patriotism The healthcare reform debate has been on the minds of
many Americans in recent years. Democrats have worked to put Obamacare in place in 2009
and want to fix issues using the existing platform. Many Republicans are currently working to
repeal and replace Obamacare with Trumpcare. The healthcare debate has come to a standstill in
Congress as deep party lines persist. In August 2017, following the fights over the universal
healthcare debate, TCA Regional News reported that Democrat Amy McGrath is running for
Congress in the state of Kentucky against Republican Andy Barr in 2018 (Yeager). McGrath felt

This is another image used to demonstrate the American army s protection and promote
patriotism. The value of patriotism is seen throughout military and American flag images in the
advertisement. The value of nontraditional gender roles is subtly seen through the auditory and
visual illustrations in the advertisement. Amy McGrath explains that in a previous experience of
hers, her local Congressman wrote to her that he believed that women should not be allowed to
serve in combat as the image of the letter appears on screen with the parts mentioned highlighted.
McGrath explains that she persisted and joined the Naval Academy anyway. This appeals to
nontraditional gender roles because it persuades the viewers that McGrath is different because
she is a woman who broke the mold in a male dominated area. McGrath is also seen with having
short hair and wearing a dark bomber jacket, white button up, and loose pants. McGrath is
noticeably not wearing much make up and has simple earrings and a wedding band. By wearing
non feminine clothes, McGrath appeals to value of nontraditional gender roles. McGrath is shown
to walking with her husband and young children down a grassy hill. McGrath is seen in a bright
pink shirt and khaki dress pants while holding her husband s hand. Her husband is wearing a blue
button up shirt and dark dress pants while holding their toddler. Twin preschooler boys, dressed in
the same blue polo and khaki shorts, run and play in front of their parents.

Witchcraft Hysteria Analysis
Were Socioeconomic Tensions Responsible for the Witchcraft Hysteria in Salem? According to
differences of in opinions by three authors, socioeconomic tensions were responsible for the
Witchcraft Hysteria in Salem. The Salem witchcraft hysteria of 1692 was prompted by economic
and social tensions that occurred against the backdrop of an emergent commercial capitalism ...,
which divided the residents in Salem Town and Salem Village. In addition, the witchcraft hysteria

Various group theories of Shakespearean authorship were proposed as early as the mid 19th
century. The first published book focused entirely on the authorship debate was The Philosophy
of the Plays of Shakespeare Unfolded, by Delia Bacon. In 1856 Delia Bacon, another American,
wrote an article to support this theory and attributed the authorship to a group of people who
were overseen by Sir Francis Bacon and Sir Walter Raleigh. [3] The group was made up of a
bunch politicians and included Edmund Spenser, Lord Buckhurst, and Edward de Vere, 17th
Earl of Oxford. A group theory was also described in Gilbert Slater s The Seven Shakespeares,
written in 1931 in which he theorised that the works were written by seven different authors:
Francis Bacon, Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford, Sir Walter Raleigh, William Stanley, 6th
Earl of Derby, Christopher Marlowe, Mary Sidney, Countess of Pembroke, and Roger Manners,
5th Earl of Rutland.[4] In the early 1960s, A theory was composed that Edward de Vere, Francis
Bacon, Roger Manners, William Herbert and Mary Sidney made up a group called The Oxford
Syndicate .[4] As the simpler theories are created people try and build off of them creating
hundreds of theories for every one theory we have. An example of this is people have made
variants of the group theories

Mairs is a courageous woman. With that said is because, she starts the passage with the use of irony. She was thinking about writingas essay on being crippled. At that time she wasn t crippled. • 3. War In Syria Dbq Essay War in Syria DBQ Essay In March of 2011, Syrian citizens peacefully protest about the arrest and torture of group of teenagers who had written anti government graffiti on a wall. Instead of President Bashar al Assad listening to the people, he responded with violence. This led up to the uprising of rebels, and the Syrian Civil War. Though what is truly fueling the violence in Syria? One thing that may be fueling this violence is religion. Religion is a huge part to countries and conflict. In Syria, the background essay states that, People s ethnic and religious identity began to play an increasingly important in determining on which side of the conflict they stood. • 4. Essay On Thanksgiving Thanksgiving is a day family and friends have a traditional meal including turkey. Thanksgiving is always held on the fourth Thursday of November every year. It s a very special holiday when everybody comes together as a family to cook, enjoy, and bless the food, but also to enjoy each other. In 2015, I had a special ThanksgivingDay dinner that left me full of joy. On Thanksgiving Day every year, my family and I normally rent a building that s twenty minutes away from my house. The building is located in Church Point, Louisiana. It is a Community Center at the park. The inside of the building is huge. It has a kitchen area in the back of the building. Inside of the kitchen it has a large island and cabinets stuff full of pots, pans, and utensils. We had two long tables in the back by the kitchen to put the food on. The deejay is placed in the front by the entrance. Between the kitchen and the deejay were chairs and tables placed for people to eat their food. There were placed a variety of tables that came in different shapes and colors. As I walked around the building, I noticed yellow, brown, and orange tables. The chairs had chair covers on them that were the same colors of yellow, brown, and orange, which are colors that you would see in November that had different meanings. Yellow is the corn, brown is the turkey and orange is a pumpkin. As Thanksgiving Day approaches each year slowly, my family and friends are on their way to Louisiana. Most of my family are from ... • 5. Essay on Import Substitution Industrialization Around the 1930s, Brazil and Latin American began following the process of Import Substitution Industrialization, which lasted until the end of the 1980s. The ISI policies devaluated the currency in order to boost exports and discourage imports, followed by adopting different exchange rates for goods (Watkins). ISI in Brazilhad an interesting effect; it created a three prong system of governmental, private, and foreign capital being directed at the infrastructure and heavy industry, manufacturing goods, and the production of durable goods. The program worked at first but then became a serious economic problem. When the 1980s came around Brazil realized that ISI policies lead to inefficient industries because of their lack of exposure to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This helped keep the inflation low and with the high interest rates, a lot of foreign capital began to flow into the country. The government s actions in the military dictatorship made it difficult for Brazil to attract foreign capital however; the Government under the Real Plan had a strong focus on the balance of payments and tried to maintain a positive influx of capital into the nation by appeasing the international public and to improve the economy (Joffe Watt). The Real Plan helped the economy so much that it began gaining value against the US currency, however in the late 1990s the currency began to devaluate. For the Real Plan to keep working the currency had to appreciate with the economy, this would assure a constant supply of foreign capital and products that maintained the market stable. Following the Real Plan, Brazil had a minor economic downturn but after 2002, the economy has been increasing at a steady pace. The economy was able to grow around 4% in 2000, however the issues in Argentina in 2001 and the uncertainty of whom the next president would be created a confidence crisis in the economy. However in 2002 when Luis InГЎcio Lula da Silva (Lula) won the election most of the issues about his presidency went thrown out because of his policies. Even though Lula had very liberal policies he began making Brazil look ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Executive s And Outliers Were Red Flags For The Enron... Enron was facing risks, risks from every angle. You can see from the history to the demise of the company everything was based on risk. Even when it came to the personal lives of those in charge, you can find some type of risk. Being a Houston native, I did not quite understand the reaction to Enron. I did not understand why it went so far as to changing the name of a stadium from Enronto Minute Maid Park. I was only a teen at the time, but now I am not. I now hope to explain my opinion on how the past, the executive s and outliers were red flags prior to the Enron crisis. My thoughts on how they could have handled the matter. Lastly, express what I would have done if I was an executive or general council to such a company. Above I stated that risks were everywhere in the case of Enron. The custom is that in order to stay in business one must take a risk. I agree that this is essential when done with good intentions and business practices. This is something that lacked in Enron before the bigger crisis emerged. The first red flag for me would have been the Valhalla Scandal . This showed the true character and intentions of Kenny Lay. Which were to get as much money as he could no matter the legality of the practices and who suffers. This shows that some of the risks taken by Lay were not the best, for his company or employees. Since the employee was doing the illegal work, and producing funding. The employee is also who ended up in jail. Moving forward another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Positive And Negative Effects Of Religion Religion is like the numerous amount of languages that exist in the world, diverse and culturally diffused. Not subject to any one specific group of people or era in time. Religion is a way for people to express their beliefs, it s a style of living, a way of life that people decide to adopt and live even throughout many obstacles imposed by society. Even when said obstacles were negative, and degrading, people in history chose to prevail while simultaneously standing up for their beliefs. Thankfully the United Stateshas given people the right to practice any religionof their choice freely and safely, but it hasn t always been like this. Religion has had positive and negative effects on politics, society, and the economy all throughout history, some more significant than others. Religion hasn t always been a right that every american citizen is granted, many were neglected this right. From the colonial times in America, only 1 of the 13 colonies that would later become the U.S, gave their citizens the right to worship there god or practice their religion of choice. Most colonies appointed a church for the state, and everyone had to pay and participate at this church, no matter their religious preference or beliefs, everyone was subjected to follow this rule. Many disagree with this statement, by declaring that people had the right to worship the god of their choice due to the creation of The Maryland Toleration Act of 1649. • 9. Term Limits Living in the present and looking back at the past, we as citizens see what has worked and what can be improved; Congress is a good example of this. Some may say that Congress is a failure and some may be happy and proud of the way it functions and runs our country. For those who do not approve of it, the idea is to start fresh and get new ideas, people and habits into office. With the way Congress works today, that may not be the easiest tasks. In order to make changes in Congress, time is needed; a significant change cannot be made over night and expect it to run smoothly. One of the ways to bring change and settle the debate of whether or not to restart Congress is to set term limits on congressional members. There should be term... Setting term limits would allow Congress to become more of a citizen Congress because more everyday people, not just the wealthy, would be running for office (balancedpolitics.org). New Politian s would not have time to find loop holes or exploit the system because they would be focusing on what they need to get done in order to make their constituents happy. One of the major benefits to term limits is the potential for new ideas rolling through Congress, and Politian s with a more focused mind set. The founding fathers did their part of making sure no one person is given too much power by ensuring that the United States has checks and balances. The 22nd Amendment has contributed to the checks and balances by limiting presidents to two terms in office. Term limits should also be in place for congressional members. This may be another way to ensure no congressional member ever has too much power within the government. Candidates would be running for the purpose to the serve people and not to just benefit themselves. Term limits would also stop the political reward and power abuse within Congress, leading to committees being assigned to individuals based on merit and their expertise to make informed decisions. • 10. Personal Narrative-Defining Moment Ms. Napholz made us write these paragraphs on someone we have memories with. So, I decided to chose you since we have so many awesome memories together. I know that you will think this is very lame but I had to chose someone. Hopefully you will enjoy revisiting some of these moments we had together. About 5 years ago you were snowmobile racing, and you were doing super good until you crashed. You were racing with Dalton. I remember it was very cold outside and it was in early January. It was one of the last races of the night; you went off the edge of the track. The snowmobile went as high as the light fixtures; it was terrifying. Everyone ran over to you to check and see if you were okay. The medics arrived and took you in an ambulance to the nearest hospital. The doctors said that you had broken 5 vertebrates and shattered your tailbone. You were on bed rest for many months but ended up having a great recovery. The first maybe 12 years of our lives together you were pretty mean to me. You would make wait 3 feet behind you for the bus, wait to get inside, push me in the snow, and overall just harass me. These are just a few of the hundreds of ridiculous, cruel things I had to deal with. However, I believe this made us closer. Now we get along great and I don t know where I would be without you. You ve made me a stronger person and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So, we went inside and you went into Mom and Dad s room. • 11. Comparing Poe And Hitchcock s Use Of Suspense Poe and Hitchcock have published numerous stories and movies that follow the same guidelines. Poe s poems and writings are very dark and mysterious, he draws you in with depression or suspension that builds terror. Hitchcock is the same way, he develops terror through his movies by building suspense to create a horror movie. Hitchcock and Poe developed their pieces with suspense to build terror in similar and deferent ways by using literary devices and mise en scene. Within Poe s writings he uses a vast amount of imagery to symbolize main concepts, as well as, to explain what is happening in depth to the reader or audience. Hitchcock demonstrates the same technique except he uses the lighting when making his films. In Poe s story The Masque... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This device develops suspense because the reader is unaware of the outcome or the possible twist. Most people do not realize the foreshadowing done until the climax is relied. In The House of Usher, Poe foreshadows the sister s , of the main characters, death is false through numerous word plays. She was never dead, but un responsive, until finally she is alive and after them. I did actually hear (laugh from what direction it proceeded I found it impossible to say) a low and apparently distant, but harsh, protracted, and most unusual scream and granting sound (Poe 22). This line from Poe, foreshadows that the sister will wake, and that she will be overturned by the events that unraveled. By Poe foreshadowing her wake and revenge, he leaves the reader analyzing the future, building the suspense for what may or may not happen, and this suspense build terror within the story and the reader. Hitchcock does the same technique in his film The Birds but instead he uses music within the film. In the movie, birds attack the town and kill or injure the townspeople. During one scene at the school, the children keep singing a song that has really long chorus that gets creepier and creepier as the keep singing. While they sing, the film makers use jump cuts to show the school then how the birds keep collecting around the school ( The Birds). • 12. Moral Responsibility In King Henry s War Morally Responsible Character Development Responsibility in war isn t always abundantly clear and Shakespeare uses King Henry s dynamic character to highlight that issue. Shakespeare uses this heavily metaphysical discussion of moral responsibility in war to symbolize a permanence in Henry s maturity by critically analyzing the position as seen by the king himself and his soldiers. The discussion between King Henry and his soldiers ultimately discusses one deep question: who is responsible for who in war? The soldiers themselves, especially Captain Bates, deem themselves responsible for their physical allegiance to the king and if his cause be wrong, [their] obedience to the King wipes the crime of it out of them (145). According to the Captain, if Henry s cause for war is an unjust one, any ill becoming end that befalls them is on the conscience of the king.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... . . Besides, there is no king, be his cause never so spotless . . . can try it out with all unspotted soldiers. Now, if these men have defeated the law and outrun native punishment, they have no wings to fly from God . . . Then, if they die unprovided, no more is the King guilty of their damnation than he was guilty of those impieties for the which they are now visited. Every subject s duty is the King s, but every subject s soul is his own (147). Henry knows that every soldier in his army is guilty to some degree of some transgression, however minor; proof of this lies in his soldiers Scroop, Grey and Cambridge who were guilty of treason against the king. But to claim that Henry himself is responsible for their judgement in death is a ludicrous proposition: his only responsibility is to ensure that his soldiers fight like soldiers. • 13. The Persuaders Rhetorical Analysis When I was a kid in school, I was told that there were the basic things that you needed like clothes and food and there were the things that you maybe want but don t really need. Advertisements do not have any effects on what we need. We don t watch and add about how we need to eat food to stay alive; we have hunger for that. However, Advertisements greatly affect what we want. Do we want basic cereal or the fancy kind that athletes promote, or can we live with a plain shirt or do we want the one with a guy riding a horse emblem? These want that stray away from our basic needs are all driven by advertisement. No one is born wanting a Gucci shirt, they are taught and conditioned to want one. The Frontline documentary, The Persuaders , delves into the world of advertisement in order to explore different aspects of the industry that drives our desire.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After watching the film it is evident that the interaction between advertisements and consumers is similar to the interactions between media and audiences. This is because advertisement is inherently a form of media, but instead of trying to interaction the audience, it propagates a propaganda for a specific item. You can look at the theories about mass media consumption and apply it to advertisements. For example, in the dawn of mass media it was thought that the hypodermic needle theory, or magic bullet theory, was how audiences reacted to the media. This theory stated that when an audience consumed a certain facet of media like a radio talk show, the media content would be directly injected into the audience. Therefore, the audience would automatically respond to the stimuli. In this way the first advertisements were just information that stated that something was better than another product in the hope that, like an injection, the information would cause the audience to go out and buy their ... Cleopatra s life was one of dreams, romance, and war. When it all came crumbling around her, she stood tall...a butterfly flying against the wind, with the whole world against her. There is not much known about Cleopatra s life before she came to the throne in 51 B.C. (Stanley, Vennema 1). As was custom, Cleopatra joint ruled with her oldest brother Ptolemy. However since Ptolemy was still very young, he had advisors who heavily influenced his decisions and they ultimately drove Cleopatra away from the throne in 48 B.C. (Stanley, Vennema 1). Determined to fight, civil war seemed inevitable, but the arrival of a famous Roman general Julius Caesar stopped war dead in it s tracks. (Cleopatra Encyclopedia). Compare And Contrast John Stuart Mill And Karl Marx In the conceptualization of the predominant 19th century political thought process, none if any were more influential than John Stuart Mill and Karl Marx. Both were philosophers, sociologists, economists and political thinkers, but each held unique views towards the ideal government, to freedom, and to the impact of the industrial revolution. Each discussed some of the ramifications of the industrial revolution, and the ways in which the government can be re aligned for greater social prosperity. John Stuart Mill(1806 1873) advocated for Liberalism, a system in which libertyand equality would remain at the forefront of all political proposals, and representative interests. Mill celebrated individuality, and the ability to not conform to a higher power. In contrast to Mill, Karl Marx (1818 1883) was a revolutionary socialist who advocated for a complete social revolution throughout society, in an effort to counter the ill perceived effects of capitalism. Marx s central tenet relied upon the fact that he sought to abolish private property, and monopolies, so as to enable all individuals to acquire an equitable means of living. Marx s belief was that capitalism forces the economy into constantly being exploited, which in turn leads to recessions. Mill believed that all power should be allocated to the individual; whereas Marx believed that bestowing such power within a socialist regime would allow for the creation of a truly egalitarian society. Renewable energy is the least established method of generating electricity and is therefore still heavily tied up in research. By definition, renewable energy sources have a theoretically limitless amount of energy production since they do not deplete any resources through their use. This means that for as many years as humans inhabit the earth they can use renewable energies, such as solar, wind, hydro power or others, which has much more potential than the 100 years for coal and natural gas. This analysis compares the potential benefits against the costs (financial, physical risks etc.) of possible decisions. For choosing which energy source the public should invest money in and engineers should invest research in, the criterion detailed above are compared. For cost benefit analysis, shown in Table 1, the effect on future generations is incorporated at the same value as the effect on current generations. For the cost criterion, renewable energy is currently the least beneficial in regards to price to the public, cost of updating current technologies, researching new technologies, and implementing new infrastructure. Natural gas has lower costs related to infrastructure and technology changes than renewable energy, but when compared to coal, it has higher public cost as well as higher implementation costs. Consequently, for the greatest amount of happiness for people, which is related to lower costs, coal is the best energy source. Furthermore, natural gas has a much higher efficiency than renewables and coal, which have similar efficiencies. • 33. Essay about Journey Of The Magi T.S. Eliot s Journey of the Magi This Christmas poem is about the Epiphany and was created the very year of Eliot s conversion to Christianity (Fleisner, 66). Therefore the theme of religion is an important one if we are to analyse the poem correctly. In the book of Ephesians in the Bible, Paul describes the rebirth of the world upon Christ s death, emphasising the Ephesians new life (2:4 5). This theme of death and rebirth is present in the poem Journey of the Magi, which, I will argue, is structurally and internally divided into three stages; corresponding to the Sacrament of Penance: contrition (guilt), confession and satisfaction. To understand this poem, one has to understand the impact that Christ had on the World. At the time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Apart from this, it is interesting to mention Eliot s wonderful imagery of the amp;quot;three trees on the low sky, amp;quot; (line24) not only representing the Magi, but also the three crosses of the Crucifixion, as line 27 suggests, of the Roman soldiers dicing for Jesus robe and the amp;quot;old white horse, amp;quot; (line 25) galloping madly away, could represent Judas, and the silver he was paid for betraying Jesus. However, the white horse could subsequently be associated with death, evoking images of the Crucifixion and the great disaster that event was for Jesus followers. • 35. The Land Of Opportunity For Immigrants The Land of Opportunity Immigrants created America, a nation that has embraced immigration. Throughout the years, America developed its American Dream concept, which states that anyone can succeed in the United States as long as that person works hard and does gives up. That concept, hope or dream attracts thousands of individuals, many of which leave their native countries with their hearth full of hope and the illusion of reaching and living the American Dream. However, the wonderful dream in many occasions has become nothing but a horrible and unbearable nightmare. They arrive to the land of opportunity that they thought was awaiting for them with fortune and instead encounter a divided society, in which some people understand their plight and sympathize with them while other look at them with anger, resentment, and even hate as if they are anything but human beings. To understand the struggle that many immigrants suffer in their quest for a better life, we have to either be an immigrant, be the descendant of one or become close to one; otherwise, we might not understand their experience enough to relate to them and what it meant to leave their country, family and friends behind. Since both legal and illegal immigration exists in America, our society ought to learn about immigration, what causes it, and what it contributes to our nation s prosperity. • 38. The Impact Of Historic Events On The Social Environment... identity can change over time in a society with the effects of historic events, changes in the social environment and the active participation of the people to create new social constructs and institutions. In order for nationalism to even start several prerequisites had to be met. These were the creation of a print system for books to be created. These books would spread the ideas of nationalism, the enlightenment and other philosophical movements across the world. Next is the capitalist system which would naturally seek to reach a larger audience and thus a larger profit margin which lead to the development of the vernacular print. Print in vernacular allowed for regular people to read the ideas printed in the books and understand them, which ultimately spread the ideas and values of these cognitive revolutions to the common man. These changes to written language changed its role forever. In the past, written language was reserved specifically for the political, intellectual, or religious elite. The religious elite especially relied on the control of the written word to control and influence the thoughts of the masses, and this was true for most, if not all religions across the world. A consequence of written language being used by the common people to spread the ideas of the enlightenment allowed for the dismantlement of the concept of rule by divine right. When someone sufferers with social anxiety, they normally avoid situations that allow them to feel judged by others. I believe that social phobia can be resolved in some individuals but, not for everyone. The fearof embarrassment or judgment among a crowd is so overwhelming that people with this disorder try their best to avoid the situation. For people with this disorder, extreme measures to avoid these uncomfortable situations seem more fortunate than facing the fear itself. According to The Nemours Foundation, we can assume that what causes social phobia is partly due to our genetic makeup along with other aspects. Social phobia disorder is the least known of all anxiety disorders. Social phobia disorder, also called social anxiety disorder, is known to appear in people who fear observation in public situations (HealthGuide.org).
