Debunking the Goal Setting Theory
Debunking the Goal Setting Theory

Often times in the business world, organizations become so fixated on the goals they set, that when
they begin to go wrong, an organization will invest more into that goal instead of looking for a
different path. Oliver Burkeman s book, The Antidote: Happiness for People Who Can t Stand Positive
Thinking devotes a whole chapter to the importance or lack thereof of setting goals. In his book, he
tells a story of Chris Kayes who was on the foothills of Mt. Everest at the same time the tragedy that
took the lives of eight climbers depicted in the book, In Thin Air. Kayes observed even through this ...

However on the flip side these same traits used to create a positive environment can also be used to
against the organization. We start with the letter S for specific as this commands that the goal to be
focused and attentive. Unfortunately though, this can actually cause a too narrowed focus where
employees will overlook important details of the task. With a narrowed focus, employees become
blind to everything else but their task and the often times miss a critical detail that could potentially
steer them into a new direction and a more profitable gain or prevent a fatal error from occurring. An
example in this can be seen in the automotive industry of late and the entire vehicle recalls that have
been made due to faulty engine or ignition parts that have caused human fatalities. The automotive
industry giants have a specific goal to create a top of the line vehicle fast and get it out to the market
that they continuously pass over safety issues and inspections in order to accomplish this single goal.
In keeping with the classic notion that you get what you reward (Kerr, 1975, 1995), goal setting may
cause the employee to miss important aspects of their task or performance that are not specifically
outlined by the goal setting system.
Next we move on to the M for measurable and the hazards that can arise from putting a measurable
capacity on goals. Being able to measure progress is said to keep the employees on track and provide

Problems Faced By President And Congress In The 1790s Essay
The Immediate Problems and Issues Faced by The President and Congress in 1790
During the 1790s, the young American republic faced many of the problems that confronted the newly
independent nations in the 20th century. For one they had to form a sound economy. Another problem
was preserving national independence. Creating a stable political system was another challenge that
would also provide a legitimate place for opposition.
It wasn t very obvious that the union would survive long. George Washington did not think that a new
government would last even 20 years. Consolidating public support was also one of the many
problems that the new republic faced. Only about 5% of all white males voted to ratify the new
constitution and only two states continued to support the articles of the confederation. There was one
state though that threatened ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One committee proposed His Highness the President of the United States and Protector of the Rights
of the Same . However, the House of Representatives and James Maddison were considering more
pressing matters. There was a tariff placed on imports and a tax placed on liquor. They also imposed
duties on foreign vessels to encourage American shipping. They also created departments of State,
Treasury and war to provide a stable structure for the executive branch of the government.
The Judiciary Act organized the first federal court system which consisted of a Supreme Court with
six justices, a district court in every state, and three appeals courts. Congress approved a bill of rights
to strengthen popular support for the new government. The bill of rights ensured that national
government could not infringe on the right to trial by jury. In an effort to reassure Antifederalists that
the powers of the new government was limited, the tenth amendment reserved to the States
respectively or to the people all powers not specifically placed in the

The Namesake Meaning
In multiple cultures, the meaning or value of a name is not only significant to the individual, but also
in life. Out of the millions of assigned labels, every name has a different reasoning behind it. In the
novel The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri, a young American Indian boy received a name from his
parents, specifically his father. Though in Indian culture, it is a custom that the grandmother name the
child. Due to delayed communications, Gogol s name does not follow traditional form. A name is not
only something assigned to be damaged, it is to show empowerment when chosen. Names are an
important key to what society values, says author David S. Slawson (Sunbury, n.p.).This quote
expresses the distinction between the actual meaning of

The Flappers Of The 1920 s
Roaring Twenties. The end of WW1 resulted in a new era in which people with money wanted to
enjoy themselves. The U.S economy was booming, profits were increased, resulting in the Roaring
Twenties. The events of WW1 had left many young women disillusioned and led them to question
traditional morality and values which resulted in the rebellious behavior of the Flappers (Henderson).
The increase in leisure time provided people the ability to dance, and listen to the up and coming jazz.
The Flappers of the 1920 s represented Modernism and typified the clash of values and the changing
status of women of the new era. Most women in the 1920s, not just the young Flappers, abandoned
traditional, restrictive women s clothes, such as long dresses and tight corsets, to free themselves of
the shackles of the Victorian era. The free spirited Flappers cut their hair, listened to jazz and
scandalized the older generation (Bode 134). The independent and unconventional attitudes of the
Flappers challenged the traditional ideas by wearing short skirts, bobbed hairstyles, make up and
cosmetics. Flappers began drinking and smoking in public and became more promiscuous during the
1920 s.
Women were much more than just staying home with their kids and doing house work. They become
independent both financially and literally. They worked hard for the same or greater equality as men.
All this brought them much much closer to their goal. In the 1920 s the term flapper referred to a new

The Dark Side of the Moon Landing
The Final Frontier In 1969, The United States successfully sent the first manned mission to the moon.
It was a long time coming, a product of the Cold War s Space Race. The Cold War began in 1947,
between the Soviet Union and the United States. There was no actual fighting in the Cold War, just
political conflict, military coalitions, and numerous competitions of brain rather than brawn. Among
these competitions is the most famous Space Race. Although the Cold War commenced in 1947, the
Space Race did not begin until 1955. The President of the United States at this time was Dwight
Eisenhower. The first competition of the space race was to send artificial satellites into space, but what

At precisely 11:07 pm, November 21st, Air Force One carrying John F Kennedy and Mrs. Kennedy
lands at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, Texas. Both Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy go straight to the
Hotel Texas after disembarking. The next morning a crowd gathers around the hotel, and Kennedy
delivers a spontaneous address. Before the address Kennedy greets the crowd, answering questions
personally. Mrs. Kennedy remained in their suite in the hotel, preparing for the Camber of Commerce
breakfast at 9 am. A deputy sheriff stationed outside the hotel recalls his brief moment meeting the
president fondly. He refers to Kennedy as a nice, courteous and neat guy. (Living History Program)
After the quick impromptu speech, Kennedy heads to the breakfast where his wife will join twenty
minutes after him. Minutes after Mrs. Kennedy arrives, John F. Kennedy stands up to deliver his first
official speech that morning. After his strong speech about the hope for peace and security in the
nation, Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy take a short thirteen minute flight to Dallas. A pleasant crowd was
waiting for the presidential couple when they landed at Carswell Air Force Base. Mrs. Kennedy was
given a bouquet of red roses, and JFK shook hands with friendly supporters. The President and first
lady join Texas Governor John Connally and his wife in a secret service modified, midnight blue, Ford
convertible. The ten mile

Online Degree Programs versus Residential Degree Programs...
Assignment Our assignment was to research benefits for online degree programs and benefits for
residential degree programs. We are then supposed to tell our stance on the issue.
I There are many reasons for online degree programs. My class came up with numerous good, solid
reasons in favor of getting a degree online. They are as follows:
Less costly
No commuting
Ability to work classes around schedule
More focused use of time
Specialized degree programs (with no general education requirements)
Credits transfer
Flexibility in completing assignments
Don t have to sit in a classroom
Faster completion possible
No campus drama
Same quality education as face to face
More career options
Interactive and engaging ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For flexibility, we realized that the student would have flexible classes. They would be able to work
whenever they needed to wherever they needed to. For example, if an online student had a job, family,
or both, they would be able to pursue their degree while also taking care of their family or working.
They would be able to complete their classes wherever there was an Internet connection. My last
category was student experiences, and numerous reasons fit under this heading. To begin, there are
actually more interactions with students when they take an online class because they need to interact
with the teacher and other students more. Online classes also teach students discipline and time
management skills since the work load is done on their own time. There are numerous reasons for
online classes; my class came up with copious reasons and then I categorized the reasons into four key
components: money, opportunities, flexibility, and student experiences.
II My class listed many online sources where they found helpful information regarding the benefits of
residential colleges. Combining some of my class s resources and some I found on my own, I came up
with one major benefit of residential colleges: most of the learning in college happens outside the
classroom and residential colleges allow that type of learning to flourish. One way that students learn
outside the classroom is by doing group projects. While online students can do group work, they do
not have

Negative Effects Of Texting And Driving
Texting has had an enormous impact on the way everyone talks to one another. It has caused minimal
verbal communication, spelling and grammar has gone down the drain along with driving safety,
paying attention in or at school/work, it has even impacted bullying in schools. Texting causes people
to rely on spell check/auto correct and actual verbal communication has significantly declined. Texting
also causes people to pay less attention to the road because they stay buried in their phones. Texting
and driving is extremely dangerous and it is frequently done. Everyday almost nine people die in car
accidents due to texting and driving. Driving while distracted can be looking away from the road,
removing your hands away from the steering wheel, or even thinking about something irrelevant while
driving. Texting and driving has to do with removing hands from the steering wheel, looking at a
phone and thinking about what your doing on the phone. People who decided not to pay attention
while driving Caused around 3,477 people to die and 391,000 to be injured in 2015. People who text
while driving causes over a thousand people to get hurt everyday. Texting and driving has been fought,
but still continues to happen everyday. Safe drivers are being punished everyday for the recklessness
and carelessness of texting and driving. ( Motor Vehicle Safety ). Texting offensive things to one
another is a form of bullying. Just like any other form, cyber

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the National Security Agency (NSA), the military, and
others collaborate on many issues and concerns, counterintelligence being an example. The CIA has
no judicial or law enforcement powers, and is not allowed to perform domestic intelligence gathering.
The CIA is absolutely prohibited from any internal security functions. In addition, it is imperative to
understand that the CIA has no hand in policy making; it only provides information and action on
specific policies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Intelligence_Agency). An excerpt from the
Values statement of the CIA, from www.cia.gov, states: Our success depends on our ability to act with
total discretion and an ability to protect sources and methods. The CIA also states, We provide
objective, unbiased information and analysis. We stand by one another and behind one another.
Service, sacrifice, flexibility, teamwork, and quiet patriotism are our hallmarks. (www.cia.gov).
Regardless of public opinion, this is what the CIA stands for and how they represent themselves.
Understanding where the CIA fits into government function is important to know so one can be aware
of where the agency s responsibilities lie. The CIA is separated into four directorates, who carry out
the processes of collecting, analyzing, and giving intelligence to the intelligence consumers.

Aging And Negative Stereotypes Of Aging
Generally, modern society reinforces negative perceptions of the process of aging, and it is often
portrayed in society as being a lonely and depressing experience. These perceptions are important
because elderly individuals that have a positive outlook on aging have been linked to better health and
psychological well being. This study explores the impact of negative and positive perceptions of
aging, held by society, and how they influence aging individuals. Although, some positive stereotypes
exist that are associated with the process of aging they are outweighed by negative stereotypes.
Labeling Theory suggests that when older individuals are presented with negative stereotypes they
themselves will assimilate these ideas, and will preform worse in age related tasks (Kotter Grühn
Hess, 2012). In fact studies have shown that when presented with negative reinforcers of aging,
individuals show more age related concerns and memory is impacted negatively (Kotter Grühn Hess,
2012). In contrast Resilience Theory suggests that conflict between negative aspects of aging and
negative stereotypes can be a pathway to a more positive self perception (Kotter Grühn Hess, 2012).
The idea of the theory being when individuals feel threatened by societal views they will compare
themselves to those that are worse off than they are, and this will in turn lead to a more positive self
perception. Resilience theory is supported by a study that found improvement in competence in

Abnormal Psychology In Stranger Things
Joyce Byers is one of the main leading characters in Stranger things. She is the mother of two boys
Will and Jonathan. They live in a small town called Hawkins, Indiana. To start off the show, Joyce
seems to be a mother who is burning the candle at both ends. She seems as though she is working all
the time and does not have time for her boys. One night, Will s older brother Jonathan does not make
sure he is home because he thought that his mother did. Then of course Will is not there in the
morning when his mother tries to get him up for school and they can not find him. Joyce goes into a
panic like any mother would, and this starts the going downhill in the way that she acts and does
certain things. According to Simply Psychology, Abnormal psychology is a division of psychology

child was taken and they would not even worry if they were being unusual or not. Joyce starts to think
that she can talk to and hear Will though the lights in her house. She goes absolutely crazy trying
setting up every light and christmas light. She even goes to the local department store and tries to buy
more christmas lights with no money. She is so distraught though that she doesn t even care about

The Treatment Plan For The Winters Family
The treatment plan I have developed to treat the Winters family is a structured and brief plan that will
be based on a three phase EFFT treatment. The initial phase is where I will create a working alliance
with the family expressing empathy using RISSSC techniques. With RISSSC, I will repeat key words
and phrases the client says, use images to capture emotions that words cannot, use simple words,
maintain a slow pace, use a soft voice to encourage a deeper experience, and adopt client s words in a
validating way (Gehart, 2014). I will also identify the negative interaction cycle, and resolution
strategies to resolve conflict (Gehart, 2014) In the working phase, I will work to increase emotional
expression and engagement of withdrawn family members in the Winters family. If I increase
engagement and emotional expression of withdrawn members, this will likely reduce conflict and
avoidance. I will use enactments to allow for acceptance and direct communication of needs between
family members. With these enactments, the clients can articulate their needs and establish new
interaction sequences. I will also strengthen the skill of family members to react to each other in
manners that establish a sense of relational safety and bonding (Gehart, 2014).
This kind of responding is also done in occurrences of conflict to reduce depressed mood, anxiety, or
conflict. In the closing phase, I will develop an aftercare plan to improve the family s skill of
responding effectively to new

Car Tuning
The modification of company manufactured vehicles, otherwise known as Car Tuning , has become
increasingly widespread over the past few years. It has developed from industry application into being
a popular hobby in which cars are modified by their owners in order to optimize performance,
handling and perhaps add a personal touch. This type of activity might be mistaken by many to be
reserved for racing junkies , but if we take a closer look, it actually proves to be quite beneficial in
terms of fuel consumption and safety. Superchargers or turbochargers are known to increase engine
efficiency and power, whereas advanced suspension and braking tend to drastically upgrade handling
and thus safety. A carefully designed exhaust system can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A spark plug ignites the mixture and the combustion takes place. In this phase, timing is crucial since
the spark must occur when the air/fuel mixture is compressed to the optimal point. Else, the
combustion will not work as effectively as it should. Once the combustion takes place, the piston is
pushed back down Now, the exhaust valves evacuate the product of the combustion and the engine is
ready for another cycle. Here, we notice the importance of the valves that must open at the correct
time to fill the combustion chamber and then to clear this chamber from the product of the
combustion. The timing of the valves is controlled by the Cam Shaft. This part of the engine decides
on the correct timing: thus filling the combustion chamber when needed and evacuating it when it is
full. Factory, or stock , cars are made for average driving conditions and driver expectations.
Sacrifices in performance, efficiency, and even handling are made for more comfort (Wikipedia). Car
tuning is not yet very popular among people especially here in Lebanon. While people may think that
car tuning is only for race junkies , the fact is that it actually improves the efficiency, performance,
handling, and power of the car. The personal motive behind car tuning is usually personalizing the car
to suit its owner s needs, driving style, and personality. Engine efficiency is a major issue in the car
industry. Instead of completely replacing an engine by a bigger and more powerful

The purpose of dissecting the sheep heart was to understand how systems of the body work together,

identified as the sinoatrial node located in the right atrium of the heart and signals for atrial

Definition Of Humanity In Blade Runner

As the film develops it is obvious they both struggle to understand their emerging emotions. When the
character of Deckard is evaluated it is obvious he struggles to come to terms with the coldness of
retiring the Replicants. This puts him in a predicament as he faces a psychological battle. Although he
is completing the task for the wellbeing of the remaining citizens he turns to drinking as a form of
comfort, displaying signs of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). In comparison, over the journey
of the story Roy, the alleged antagonist, developed emotions. This caused the difference between
humans and robots to decrease. At the beginning of the film, Replicants are perceived as corrupt but
this stereotype is broken when Roy Batty saves the life of Deckard. He could ve allowed Deckard to
fall to his death but he was overcome with emotion and couldn t complete the task of murder. After
saving him, Roy was retired as his intended four year life span was complete. The was audience is left
to question his development and evolution towards humanity. The author demonstrated that through
Roy s actions his purpose in this world was accomplished and he had indeed become human. Overall
the difference between being labelled as good or bad is stereotyped. Replicants were perceived as bad
people due to their characterisation, this was broken through the development of emotion.

African Americans And The New State Constitution
In Birmingham, Alabama between 1957 and 1962 seventeen black churches and homes had been
bombed, racial tension continued to grow, and more and more African Americans were being killed.
Although the population of Birmingham was 40% African American, there seemed little hope for a
political solution to the racial divide; of 80,000 registered voters, only 10,000 were black due to a
barrier that was placed on the new state constitution of Alabama. One of these barriers was an annual
poll tax that had to pay for two years before the new election season. African Americans in Mississippi
could barely afford the necessities in order to live such as food, clothes, and a roof over their head.
African Americans were the poorest part of Mississippi s population. The other barrier that was placed
in the new state constitution was a literacy test. It required a person seeking to register to vote to read
a section of the state constitution and explain it to the county clerk, a white man, who processed voter
registrations. This new law was setup for African Americans to fail. Along with many other civil rights
leaders and members of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Dr. Martin Luther King

leading up to Dr. Martin Luther King s arrest. While being incarcerated, Dr. King wrote an open letter

Analysis Of The Chrysanthemums By John Steinbeck
When I was young I heard red chrysanthemums symbolize love and deep warmth. And Yellow
chrysanthemums symbolize neglected love or sadness. Thus, I picked the story the chrysanthemums
which was composed by John Steinbeck。 The story is recited from a third person; we are confident
that we are sharing with a narrator, who is far away from the character s feelings and emotions.
Likewise, the story focuses on Elisa. It allows us omniscient access into Elisa s thoughts, but for the
most part, it does not draw her thoughts. This point of view is necessary to the story because it is
clearly showing us that men around the twenties disregard a lot of beautiful and intelligent women like
Elisa.
When Elisa is watching her husband with two other men studied the machine, the narrator describes
the Elisa s outfit for us, Her figure was blocked and heavy in her gardening costume, a man s black hat
pulled low down over her eyes, clodhopper shoes, a figured print dress almost completely covered by
a big corduroy apron. In general, Elisa does not dress like a housewife , as a woman who has a
business husband, she is supposed to put on a pretty dress, not being unobtrusive of her beauty, rising
child at home... However, Elisa would rather hold out like men than wearing fancy dresses as a
wealthy lady. Therefore, she is not exactly a girly girl. Straight away, we know she s a character who
will challenge the traditional ideas of femininity. Then in the back to the story, after Elisa s gave the
chrysanthemums to the tinker, she wears a beautiful dress, and then her husband reacts surprise ... I
mean you look different, strong and happy. Before when she wears like a man he does not think Elisa
is strong, even the chrysanthemum stems seemed too small and easy for her energy , And from his
response, he doesn t appreciate her beauty and her strength that much. Maybe he never pays any
attention to her. Henry saw Elisa is doing something in the garden; he came near to her and observes,
... I wish you d work out in the orchard and raise some apples that big. Her eyes sharpened. Maybe I
could do it, too. I ve a gift with things all right... Well it sure works with flowers, he said. This

The Hellenistic Age And Classical Age
While discovering the Hellenistic Age, I learned about the history in Hellenistic civilization.
Hellenism is the term typically to describe the spread of culture from the Greek civilization that
developed after the reign of Alexander the Great. How does the Hellenistic Age differ from the
Classical Age? The Classical Age, referred to as Hellenic Greek, was founded in 507 B.C.E. and
concluded in 323 B.C.E. The Hellenistic Age was founded in 323 B.C.E. and concluded in 31 B.C.E.
after the reign of Alexander the Great. The Classical Age was ruled by the Greek civilization in Greek
city states and their territories. The Hellenistic Age established a great deal in the culture and Greek
language around the places in Mediterranean, Middle East, Central and South Asia. There are three
categories in the Hellenistic Age: cultural, religious, and political/military. The three categories will
present the history to recognize how the people survived from the time of Hellenistic Age and
Classical Age. The first category of Hellenism is cultural. The culture of the Classical Age came from
the Ancient Greek civilization. The Classical cultural was isolated because it was not impacted by
other civilization. The Classical cultural accomplished in several areas such as political system,
philosophy, and religious beliefs. The culture of the Hellenistic Age came from the Greek civilization.
They used the Greek language to spoke and wrote as their primary language during the Hellenistic
Age.

The Science Of Shopping Malcolm Gladwell Analysis
Article Analyzing Essay Malcolm Gladwell s piece, The Science of Shopping , causes his audience to
fear retail anthropologists such as Paco Underhill. On the surface, Gladwell appears to write a short
documentary of sorts about the manipulation of businesses and stores. Venturing deeper into the story
provides the reader with vision of the importance businesses place on their layouts and strategies.
Gladwell continues to assure his point that consumers are not mindlessly obeying what retailors want
them to do. Store owners are required to accommodate to how their customers behave, and what their
target market wants. Gladwell refers to significant moments with Underhill by directly quoting Paco.

The Spatial Distribution Of Temperature Essay
The spatial distribution of temperature, pH , salinity , Dissolved Oxygen (D.O) , Biological Oxygen
Demand (BOD), micronutrients (phosphate , nitrate and silicate ) and chlorophyll pigments were
pronounced as shown in fig : 3 .The surface water temperature were homogenous within the studied
area ,varying within the range 25 32° C . Generally, the temperature is influenced by the freshwater
influx intensity of solar radiation, and cooling and mix up with ebb , evaporation and flow from
adjoining neritic waters (Prabu et al. 2008). The estuarine water was slightly alkaline in nature
throughout the study period in all the respective stations with pH value ranging from 7.7 to 8.33. The
pH value was within the safe limit for drinking purpose (WHO, 1973) as well as for crop production
(FAO, 1975).This pH range was the combine effects of the tides of the Bay of Bengal and fairly high
buffering capacity of the water (Huang et.al;2008). The neutral sub alkaline environment at this pH
substantially limits the mobility of trace metals in marine water (Manta et al., 2002). The maximum
salinity (14.5 p.s.u) at Sagar (S8) and the minimum (0.17 p.s.u.) at Babughat (S3) were recorded
which is attributed to higher rate of evaporation than that of precipitation and the neritic water
dominance (Rajasekar; 2003). The turbidity showed a wide range of variation (1 13 NTU) being
lowest at Tribeni (S1) which is the fresh water zone and highest at Lot 8 (S7), near the coastal water.

The Evolution Of Egos
As with any new technology today, there must have been a magical experience for people back in the
day to witness and hear radio for the first time. It s oddly comforting in a way to know that even with
the ever changing hi tech gadgets of today, somethings over time, do not change. The way people react
to new ideas and inventions and how they impede those innovations. Egos can get in the way of where
a new idea ends up and how advanced that idea becomes. In addition, the notion that something can be
replaced with a newer and improved model has not changed in over 100 years. It seems that radio
would have made faster and more advanced strides if it wasn t for the egos of the three men that
forged it. Lee de Forest, Edwin Armstrong,

Comparison Between Islam And Islam

JUDISM COMPARED TO ISLAM
Judaism is one of the oldest monotheistic religions with Islam. Judaism embraces a set of beliefs and
practices whose base is in the Hebrew Bible or Tanakh; this religion dates back two thousand years
before Christ, when Abraham migrates toward Palestine by the indication of a God who
communicated with him and claiming to be the one God (as all his ancestors revered and worshiped
many gods false) . Compared to Islam who it is also an Abrahamic monotheistic religion whose
dogma is based on the Quran, which establishes as a fundamental idea to believers that There is no
god but Allah and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.

and abandon idolatry. Islam s holy book is called Quran dictated by Allah to Muhammad through the
angel Gabriel. Followers of Islam are called Muslims mean undergoing . They believe that
Muhammad is the last prophet sent by God. Muslims accept as a prophet Adam, Noah, Abraham,
Moses, Solomon, and Jesus. They also accept the Torah as holy books, Salomon s books and the
Gospels. In addition, Muslims have faith in that any individual, who bow to God, praises and worships
him, will be compensated with eternity.
According to the teaching of Judaism there is no set of beliefs upon the acceptance of which the Jew
may find salvation. Even Maimonides thirteen articles of faith, as close as Judaism ever came to a
catechism, is not binding on the conscience of Jews. Judaism has historically put more emphasis on
writing the creed. Nevertheless, from Talmudic times, as a way of life Judaism has been distinguished

Johnny Appleseed Summary
A folklore tale I remember and enjoyed when I was younger was Johnny Appleseed. Johnny
Appleseed was a self sacrificing man as he spent most of the entirety of his life assisting other people.
He began his journey when he was just a young man at the age of 18. Johnny sought out to plant
Appleseed s throughout the western colonialization in hopes of producing free food for anyone who

By the turn of the century hundred of small companies were producing automobiles both in Europe
and in America. By 2004, the industry was in different stages of its life cycle in different parts of the
world. The US industry entered a period of rapid growth during 1910 28, and reached its peak of
production in 1965. In the two decades up to 2004, car production was on a downward trend, but if
trucks were included, output was broadly stable (see table 4.2). In Europe and Japan too, total
production was showing a declining trend The problem of market saturation was exacerbated by the
tendency for cars to last longer(see table 4.3). [Tables 4.2 and 4.3 about here] As a result, the
automobile producers have looked increasingly to the newly industrializing countries for market
opportunities. During the 1980s and 1990s countries such as Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand,
Turkey, Brazil, and Argentina offered the best growth prospects. As these markets became increasingly
saturated, so China, India, and the former Soviet Union were seen as the “ next wave” of attractive

The Necessity Of Cell Phone
Cell phones , when many people hear these words, they think of a talking device, right? Well, they re
right to a certain degree, however, a cell phone is so much more than just that and they don t even
realize it. Instead of thinking of a phone as a type of device, people everywhere should realize what it
really is, a necessity. A necessity is something that people have to have in an everyday life. In today s
society, cell phones are used every single day, all around the world. They have became a very
important aspect in lives, and to make it throughout each day, citizens have to have a cell phone.
Phones are used for school, work, money, safety, and so much more. Cell phones make things quick
and they re convenient. A cell phone is definitely a have to have in life today. They are used for
essentially everything. It s remarkably more than just a phone, it s a protection, communication, and
an entertainment device all in one. The world is a scary place, for both a tennager and a parent. For a
parent, never knowing when an accident might happen or where their child is at causes a lot of stress,
and for a young teenager just being alone is intimidating enough. How are people supposed to stay
safe? Having a cell phone fixes those problems and fears. People don t have to be worried or scared
because, with a phone there is always protection. There is access to 911, even in places that there is no

There has been numerous writings and speeches given to address this overriding issue, how the male

exploiting our emotions and attacking the very things that advertisers know will get out attention such
as, love and relationships, they easily get away with it because they use what makes us vulnerable. It
is also said in Killing Us Softly 4 that, almost every aspect of popular culture is really all about
marketing . With Americans seeing thousands of ads a day and all of them attacking some part of our
being and emotions it s easy for us to not even notice that there is damage being done. This is where
the advertising companies excel because they know that no one is going to see a commercial for a car
as being a harmful attribute to our sexual relationships or a video of a hurt animal affecting our
emotions into buying animals. It s all a game that advertisers play, a game that they are winning, as

The Fall Of The Berlin Wall
The Year That Changed The World
In The Year That Changed The World tells the first hand experience of the Fall of the Berlin Wall. The
main factor in the collapse of the wall was the never ending fight of the individuals who had fallen
under the communist state. Most of these individuals came together and fought in order to achieve
their goal of a non communist state and German unification. The Cold War was the conflict between
the Eastern bloc (Communist) against the Western Bloc (Capitalist), the separation between them
began to be known as the Iron Curtain. The Berlin Wall was physical representation of the war for
most people, a city divided into two. This important part of history led to the beginning of the Cold
War period and the end. The fall of the Berlin Wall made 1989 the year that changed the world. In The
Year That Changed the World Meyer conveys that success is easily accomplished in cooperation rather
than separation.
Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall! President Ronald Reagan s famous expression, when he last
visited Berlin in 1987, as a clear call to bring the Cold War to an end. According to the United States,
we had won, so this side of history goes; because Ronald Reagan stood his ground against the Soviet
Union, America had toppled the communist empire. Michael Meyer, a reporter who was in Eastern
Europe at the time for Newsweek, has a different side.

Statistical Data For Forecasting Future Staffing
A wide selection of statistical methods is available for use in Human Resources forecasting. Out of the
many techniques some of the prominent ones include, trend, ratio, and regression analysis methods.
Trend Analysis:
Essentially, trend analysis, looks at previous employment levels against business variables to predict
future staffing requirements. All the more, trend analysis uses historical data for forecasting future
staffing needs. Likewise, trend analysis creates a relationship between past and future staffing needs.
Trend analysis is appliedwhen organizations have data mostly on historical staffing levels with less

demand are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A trend analysis allows the human resources department and the owner of the organization to pinpoint
the main causes and issues affecting the rate at which employees leave a workforce and are replaced.
Further, it pinpoints how these actions impact the business. Trend analysis results can help in
estimating the complexity and supply of skills that may be available in the future and from there make
projections about future workforce requirements (Lohrey, (n.d.)..
A trend analysis generates both quantitative and qualitative data outcomes. While quantitative data is
most valuable for making staffing predictions, qualitative data is useful in a diversity of ways. It can
help you discover why employees leave and why they choose to stay. Furthermore, this information
can be crucial in creating employee engagement initiatives that are intended to increase morale,
employee satisfaction and, most of all, productivity. It can also help you determine whether additional
training is required to develop current employee skill sets to improve retention rates (Woltmann
Whitley, 2007).
Moreover, trend analysis is more suited for an existing business because it requires historical staffing
data to make future staffing projections and predictions. Likewise, this generates an association
between past and future staffing needs by connecting the two using a performance or financial metric
called an operational

My Spiritual Journey Essay
My personal religious and spiritual journey began as a young child in Long Island, New York. In fact,
my parents and grandparents often took me to church activities in addition to Sunday services. I was
taught how to pray by my parents as a child and I went to Bible study classes at church. My
grandmother Hannah in my opinion was a calm, wise, caring, affectionate, and strong woman of faith.
I regularly liked to asked her questions because, she was very patient with me. I always said, if I had a
daughter I would name her after my grandma Hannah as I admired her strength. I attended Catholic
schools from first grade to twelfth grade, where I also had religious education classes. I ll never forget
my fourth grade teacher Sister Mary, she was a firm teacher but, she always encouraged my class. She
would tell us you can achieve anything in your life if you try hard, pray and stay strong in your faith.
In my opinion I had several positive major formative influences in my life. After, high school I went to
nursing school in Hicksville, Long Island New York called Vocational Extension Board Practical

As it was stated, DeBeers was attempting to mislead the public by only providing information about
certain water sources that they did not contaminate, but decided to hide information about the ones

mercury and methylmercury, which is a relative to mercury are both highly toxic, and can both pose a
danger to not only the animals, fish and vegetation in the area, but humans as well if it builds up in the
waterways. Their reports can be used not only with the Ontario government, but with the company as
well showing that they previously did not follow their agreements, allowing the community to have a
stronger voice during the negotiation process.
It should be noted that the Ontario government requested the company to self monitor itself and report
on the mercury and methylmercury levels near the open pit Victor mine, but the Wildlands League
reports otherwise and this is a concern for the community these events can happen in their area as

company s operations. If the government sees that DeBeers did not follow their previous agreement
that they signed then this will mean stricter rules and oversight on the company. Plus there will be
harsher fines if they do not follow.

Overcome such perceptions by sitting closer, leaning forward, giving a comforting pat on the shoulder,
or other gestures that indicate an interest in the patient.
Ask about their life (family, friends, and work) and share life stories and pictures. Converse with all of
the family members present, but be respectful of gender.
Do not give an impression of being too familiar, however. Make personal notes in medical records to
cue other providers of family names or special events to discuss during another visit.
Encourage the asking of questions
Out of a sense of respeto, many Hispanic patients will avoid disagreeing with or expressing doubts to
their health care provider about the treatment they are receiving. They may be reluctant to ask
questions or admit they are confused about instructions or treatment. There is a cultural taboo against
expressing negative feelings directly. This taboo may manifest itself in a patient s withholding

Yellow Light Lab Report
Abstract:
People want to avoid insects being attracted to lights at parties, so some people take to buying yellow
insect repellent bulbs. A yellow bulb as an insect repellent bulb is strange because insects are capable
of seeing the color yellow and some insects are even attracted to yellow. What consumers need to
know is if yellow light bulbs repel insect. This lab s objective was to determine if nocturnal insects are
repelled by yellow lights and how that repulsion compares to red, soft white, or a black light. The
most important materials needed in this experiment were a lamp, a variety of light bulbs, and fly
paper. The results show that insects are more attracted to soft white light and black light than the
insects are to red or yellow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Insects may not be as active during overcast conditions. Only two beetles were captured during the
duration of this experiment because local beetles may not have been within range of the light source
and it is still too early in the spring for an excess of beetles. This study needs to be improved by
extending the number of nights each light is utilized and by testing the different light colors at
different seasons of the year.

Importance Of Learning English As A Foreign Language In...
Starting learning English as a foreign language in Vietnam, I was aware of the importance of acquiring
and applying a new language in modern lives. When mastering a new language, especially a popular
one, we can gradually narrow the gaps between people from many nations. However, how to
maximize the effectiveness of language teaching and learning is a simple task. Accordingly, I wish to
learn linguistics, the major that has made me understand learners can successfully acquire a new
language using scientific and social methods.
My first major in Vietnam was English pedagogy, so I had many opportunities to study English from
many Vietnamese teachers. Like other language learners, I struggled with English pronunciation until
the time I experienced linguistic programs in the second year. I began to learn Phonology, the subject
motivated me to do research about pronunciation correction for Vietnamese learners. At that time, I
knew the definitions of voiced and voiceless sounds, which assisted me to recognize the reason why
Vietnamese learners had a lot of difficulties in pronouncing voiceless sounds. In Vietnamese, most of
the phonemes are voiced, even they look the same as in written forms of English, so we articulate the
English voiceless sounds in a way of voiced sounds like in Vietnamese. This is the reason why we
make this mistake very often. Thanks to the time of learning this subcategory of linguistics, I knew
how to correct it consciously and have been improving

Treachery In Dantes Inferno
Through me you go into a city of weeping; through me you go into eternal pain; through me you go
amongst the lost people T he Inferno, b y Dante Alighieri is a divine comedy written in the style of a
poem. The story was written in the 1300 s all in Italian and later translated into English. Dante lived a
tough life, even as a young child when he lost his mother and became exiled from his own hometown,
Florence. He was a part of the White Guelphs who always disagreed with the Black Guelphs. Dante
had a gift for writing, and was inspired to create a story where he explores the evil in humans in a
place called Hell. So it starts off with Dante wandering through a forest and encountering the spirit of
Virgil, a great ancient poet. Virgil gives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a society, we look at this model of Hell and question the placement of some of his sins. Why was
treachery the worst sin of the time? As stated earlier, we would most likely have anticipated violence
at the worst part of Hell. There was a reason why he ranked the sins in the order that he did but I do
not entirely agree with the order myself. I would make a few tweaks, like remove lust because even
Dante said that lust is a natural part of life that cannot be avoided. Also having a level for limbo seems
unfair to me, mostly because there was no way to prevent it or escape it. Gluttony and greed makes
sense to be put together because they are both relatively similar in terms of having too much of a
certain thing. The other circles could be tweaked to fit the standards expected by today, but is overall
in an order that I would place it in. But that is just my perspective and there are plenty of ways to fix
the order of the

  • 2. Debunking the Goal Setting Theory Debunking the Goal Setting Theory Presented to Trudy Dunson, Instructor MGMT 2125, Performance Management By Andrea Smith 10/13/2014 Often times in the business world, organizations become so fixated on the goals they set, that when they begin to go wrong, an organization will invest more into that goal instead of looking for a different path. Oliver Burkeman s book, The Antidote: Happiness for People Who Can t Stand Positive Thinking devotes a whole chapter to the importance or lack thereof of setting goals. In his book, he tells a story of Chris Kayes who was on the foothills of Mt. Everest at the same time the tragedy that took the lives of eight climbers depicted in the book, In Thin Air. However on the flip side these same traits used to create a positive environment can also be used to against the organization. We start with the letter S for specific as this commands that the goal to be focused and attentive. Unfortunately though, this can actually cause a too narrowed focus where employees will overlook important details of the task. With a narrowed focus, employees become blind to everything else but their task and the often times miss a critical detail that could potentially steer them into a new direction and a more profitable gain or prevent a fatal error from occurring. An example in this can be seen in the automotive industry of late and the entire vehicle recalls that have been made due to faulty engine or ignition parts that have caused human fatalities. The automotive industry giants have a specific goal to create a top of the line vehicle fast and get it out to the market that they continuously pass over safety issues and inspections in order to accomplish this single goal. In keeping with the classic notion that you get what you reward (Kerr, 1975, 1995), goal setting may cause the employee to miss important aspects of their task or performance that are not specifically outlined by the goal setting system. Next we move on to the M for measurable and the hazards that can arise from putting a measurable capacity on goals. Being able to measure progress is said to keep the employees on track and provide ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Problems Faced By President And Congress In The 1790s Essay The Immediate Problems and Issues Faced by The President and Congress in 1790 During the 1790s, the young American republic faced many of the problems that confronted the newly independent nations in the 20th century. For one they had to form a sound economy. Another problem was preserving national independence. Creating a stable political system was another challenge that would also provide a legitimate place for opposition. It wasn t very obvious that the union would survive long. George Washington did not think that a new government would last even 20 years. Consolidating public support was also one of the many problems that the new republic faced. • 5. The Flappers Of The 1920 s Roaring Twenties. The end of WW1 resulted in a new era in which people with money wanted to enjoy themselves. The U.S economy was booming, profits were increased, resulting in the Roaring Twenties. The events of WW1 had left many young women disillusioned and led them to question traditional morality and values which resulted in the rebellious behavior of the Flappers (Henderson). The increase in leisure time provided people the ability to dance, and listen to the up and coming jazz. The Flappers of the 1920 s represented Modernism and typified the clash of values and the changing status of women of the new era. Most women in the 1920s, not just the young Flappers, abandoned traditional, restrictive women s clothes, such as long dresses and tight corsets, to free themselves of the shackles of the Victorian era. The free spirited Flappers cut their hair, listened to jazz and scandalized the older generation (Bode 134). The independent and unconventional attitudes of the Flappers challenged the traditional ideas by wearing short skirts, bobbed hairstyles, make up and cosmetics. Flappers began drinking and smoking in public and became more promiscuous during the 1920 s. Women were much more than just staying home with their kids and doing house work. They become independent both financially and literally. They worked hard for the same or greater equality as men. All this brought them much much closer to their goal. They would be able to complete their classes wherever there was an Internet connection. My last category was student experiences, and numerous reasons fit under this heading. Online classes also teach students discipline and time management skills since the work load is done on their own time. • 10. Aging And Negative Stereotypes Of Aging Generally, modern society reinforces negative perceptions of the process of aging, and it is often portrayed in society as being a lonely and depressing experience. These perceptions are important because elderly individuals that have a positive outlook on aging have been linked to better health and psychological well being. This study explores the impact of negative and positive perceptions of aging, held by society, and how they influence aging individuals. Although, some positive stereotypes exist that are associated with the process of aging they are outweighed by negative stereotypes. Labeling Theory suggests that when older individuals are presented with negative stereotypes they themselves will assimilate these ideas, and will preform worse in age related tasks (Kotter Grühn Hess, 2012). In fact studies have shown that when presented with negative reinforcers of aging, individuals show more age related concerns and memory is impacted negatively (Kotter Grühn Hess, 2012). In contrast Resilience Theory suggests that conflict between negative aspects of aging and negative stereotypes can be a pathway to a more positive self perception (Kotter Grühn Hess, 2012). The idea of the theory being when individuals feel threatened by societal views they will compare themselves to those that are worse off than they are, and this will in turn lead to a more positive self perception. The initial phase is where I will create a working alliance with the family expressing empathy using RISSSC techniques. With RISSSC, I will repeat key words and phrases the client says, use images to capture emotions that words cannot, use simple words, maintain a slow pace, use a soft voice to encourage a deeper experience, and adopt client s words in a validating way (Gehart, 2014). I will also identify the negative interaction cycle, and resolution strategies to resolve conflict (Gehart, 2014) In the working phase, I will work to increase emotional expression and engagement of withdrawn family members in the Winters family. If I increase engagement and emotional expression of withdrawn members, this will likely reduce conflict and avoidance. I will use enactments to allow for acceptance and direct communication of needs between family members. With these enactments, the clients can articulate their needs and establish new interaction sequences. I will also strengthen the skill of family members to react to each other in manners that establish a sense of relational safety and bonding (Gehart, 2014). In this phase, timing is crucial since the spark must occur when the air/fuel mixture is compressed to the optimal point. Else, the combustion will not work as effectively as it should. Once the combustion takes place, the piston is pushed back down Now, the exhaust valves evacuate the product of the combustion and the engine is ready for another cycle. Here, we notice the importance of the valves that must open at the correct time to fill the combustion chamber and then to clear this chamber from the product of the combustion. The timing of the valves is controlled by the Cam Shaft. This part of the engine decides on the correct timing: thus filling the combustion chamber when needed and evacuating it when it is full. African Americans And The New State Constitution In Birmingham, Alabama between 1957 and 1962 seventeen black churches and homes had been bombed, racial tension continued to grow, and more and more African Americans were being killed. Although the population of Birmingham was 40% African American, there seemed little hope for a political solution to the racial divide; of 80,000 registered voters, only 10,000 were black due to a barrier that was placed on the new state constitution of Alabama. One of these barriers was an annual poll tax that had to pay for two years before the new election season. African Americans in Mississippi could barely afford the necessities in order to live such as food, clothes, and a roof over their head. African Americans were the poorest part of Mississippi s population. The other barrier that was placed in the new state constitution was a literacy test. It required a person seeking to register to vote to read a section of the state constitution and explain it to the county clerk, a white man, who processed voter registrations. This new law was setup for African Americans to fail. Likewise, the story focuses on Elisa. It allows us omniscient access into Elisa s thoughts, but for the most part, it does not draw her thoughts. This point of view is necessary to the story because it is clearly showing us that men around the twenties disregard a lot of beautiful and intelligent women like Elisa. When Elisa is watching her husband with two other men studied the machine, the narrator describes the Elisa s outfit for us, Her figure was blocked and heavy in her gardening costume, a man s black hat pulled low down over her eyes, clodhopper shoes, a figured print dress almost completely covered by a big corduroy apron. The Spatial Distribution Of Temperature Essay The spatial distribution of temperature, pH , salinity , Dissolved Oxygen (D.O) , Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), micronutrients (phosphate , nitrate and silicate ) and chlorophyll pigments were pronounced as shown in fig : 3 .The surface water temperature were homogenous within the studied area ,varying within the range 25 32° C . Generally, the temperature is influenced by the freshwater influx intensity of solar radiation, and cooling and mix up with ebb , evaporation and flow from adjoining neritic waters (Prabu et al. 2008). The estuarine water was slightly alkaline in nature throughout the study period in all the respective stations with pH value ranging from 7.7 to 8.33. The pH value was within the safe limit for drinking purpose (WHO, 1973) as well as for crop production (FAO, 1975).This pH range was the combine effects of the tides of the Bay of Bengal and fairly high buffering capacity of the water (Huang et.al;2008). The neutral sub alkaline environment at this pH substantially limits the mobility of trace metals in marine water (Manta et al., 2002). The maximum salinity (14.5 p.s.u) at Sagar (S8) and the minimum (0.17 p.s.u.) at Babughat (S3) were recorded which is attributed to higher rate of evaporation than that of precipitation and the neritic water dominance (Rajasekar; 2003). The turbidity showed a wide range of variation (1 13 NTU) being lowest at Tribeni (S1) which is the fresh water zone and highest at Lot 8 (S7), near the coastal water. The high ... This study needs to be improved by extending the number of nights each light is utilized and by testing the different light colors at different seasons of the year. References: Adriana, D. A. and L. • 43. Importance Of Learning English As A Foreign Language In... Starting learning English as a foreign language in Vietnam, I was aware of the importance of acquiring and applying a new language in modern lives. When mastering a new language, especially a popular one, we can gradually narrow the gaps between people from many nations. However, how to maximize the effectiveness of language teaching and learning is a simple task. Accordingly, I wish to learn linguistics, the major that has made me understand learners can successfully acquire a new language using scientific and social methods. My first major in Vietnam was English pedagogy, so I had many opportunities to study English from many Vietnamese teachers. Like other language learners, I struggled with English pronunciation until the time I experienced linguistic programs in the second year. I began to learn Phonology, the subject motivated me to do research about pronunciation correction for Vietnamese learners. At that time, I knew the definitions of voiced and voiceless sounds, which assisted me to recognize the reason why Vietnamese learners had a lot of difficulties in pronouncing voiceless sounds. In Vietnamese, most of the phonemes are voiced, even they look the same as in written forms of English, so we articulate the English voiceless sounds in a way of voiced sounds like in Vietnamese. This is the reason why we make this mistake very often. Thanks to the time of learning this subcategory of linguistics, I knew how to correct it consciously and have been improving ... Treachery In Dantes Inferno Through me you go into a city of weeping; through me you go into eternal pain; through me you go amongst the lost people T he Inferno, b y Dante Alighieri is a divine comedy written in the style of a poem. The story was written in the 1300 s all in Italian and later translated into English. Dante lived a tough life, even as a young child when he lost his mother and became exiled from his own hometown, Florence. He was a part of the White Guelphs who always disagreed with the Black Guelphs. Dante had a gift for writing, and was inspired to create a story where he explores the evil in humans in a place called Hell. So it starts off with Dante wandering through a forest and encountering the spirit of Virgil, a great ancient poet. Virgil gives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a society, we look at this model of Hell and question the placement of some of his sins. Why was treachery the worst sin of the time? As stated earlier, we would most likely have anticipated violence at the worst part of Hell. There was a reason why he ranked the sins in the order that he did but I do not entirely agree with the order myself. I would make a few tweaks, like remove lust because even Dante said that lust is a natural part of life that cannot be avoided. Also having a level for limbo seems unfair to me, mostly because there was no way to prevent it or escape it. Gluttony and greed makes sense to be put together because they are both relatively similar in terms of having too much of a certain thing. The other circles could be tweaked to fit the standards expected by today, but is overall in an order that I would place it in. But that is just my perspective and there are plenty of ways to fix the order of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
