The Restorative Justice Process
Restorative justice is a very complex process in the justice system. It is a positive program that helps
in the aid of victims of crimes. The process for restorative justice is broken down into steps which
map out how the process should take place. According to Johnstone, Restorative justice is the theory
that justice aids the victim and emphasizes the repair of harm caused by unjust or harmful behavior. In
my opinion the restorative justice process is a great accomplishment to the justice system. Restorative
justice does not always work as intended but the theory of which it is intended for is enough to be
improved upon. The steps needed to assure that this process works or does what it is intended to are
short yet effective. The first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mildred, the victim, had seen what appeared to be a complete success story. Her fear of her
neighborhood was greatly reduced and she was doing much better than before the crime had taken
place. She was socializing with neighbors and had become a better person. David, the burglar, had a
much greater success in his process. The relationship he had with his parents was stronger than ever.
David started to attend college where he would begin coaching a little league baseball team. The team
that David coached had run ins with Betty s husband s team in which David s team won most of the
time. David made many efforts to make things right with Mildred and apologize whenever he could.
He had purchased a clock that he thought would be a great gift to Mildred to replace the watch he had
stolen. David has also become a restorative circles facilitator like the ones who had helped Mildred
and himself. The community had become a much safer and better place because of this. Everyone
seemed to be much more engaged in helping one another and assuring that everyone was safe and

The Most Important Aspects Of Radical Reconstruction And...
During reconstruction, some 2000 African American held public office, from the local level all the
way up to the US. Senate, though, they never achieved representation in government proportionate to
their numbers. The term Reconstruction Era or Radical Reconstruction in the context of the history of
the United States, has two senses: the first covers the complete history of the entire country from 1861
to 1877 following the Civil War (1861 1865); the second sense focuses on the attempted
transformation of the Southern United States from 1863 to 1877. Also, the period from the end of
World War II until the late 1960s is often referred as the Second Reconstruction. One of the most
important aspects of the Reconstruction 1861 1877 and second reconstruction 1945 1968, was the
active participation of African American community in the political, economic and social life of the
South.
According to history.com staff, 2010; The rise of African American leaders during the Reconstruction
in political life was a quest for autonomy and equal rights under the law, not only as individuals, but
also as black community as a whole.
After April 1865, took place an extensive mobilization within the Black community, with meetings,
parades and petitions calling for legal and political rights, including the all important right to vote .
During the first two years of Reconstruction, blacks organized Equal right leagues throughout the
South and held state and local conventions to

One Tree Hill Analysis
One Tree Hill There are always stereotypes in high school. People are placed into groups. You re a
jock, you re a cheerleader, you re a freak, you re into the drama department. I had a lot of trouble
fitting into those groups when I was in high school because I wanted to be a part of all of them. One
Tree Hill represents people who are multidimensional and who like more than one thing. Hilarie
Burton, who plays Peyton Sawyer, says it perfectly herself. One Tree Hill shows diversity among all.
The use of every stereotype is used in this series to allow every viewer feel as though they have a
place, making the show significant for young adult viewers especially. The main characters in the
show are all friends, yet they all have different interests. Despite the drama, relatable for any high
school viewer. While other shows place teens into certain stereotypical groups, One Tree Hill does just
the opposite by allowing everyone to be themselves. Dissimilar from most shows on television and
stereotypes of high school, One Tree Hill does a substantial work of portraying the diversity of all
people by bringing all together.
Peyton Sawyer is not like any typical highschool girl. She is a cheerleader but also enjoys making
dark art. Naturally, she is in her room listening to punk rock music and drawing. Peyton is pretty
uncheery (if one asks Lucas Scott). Therefore, she doesn t come off as the cheerleader type. The only
reason that she is a cheerleader is because her

The Legend Of The Chosen
Legend of the Chosen
Much of the Earth s landscape had been changed by The Great Wars, the war that caused the
holocaust, but some landmarks still remain. And these wars rearranged the planet s geographical
attributes and wiped out most human life on Earth. Each land was renamed after the compass point it
faced; the Northland, the Southland, the Eastland, and the Westland. Towers, buildings, homes,
Helicopters, towers, and buildings are in ruins, but have been in this state for quite some time, with
layers of moss and green vines covering them. Most advanced technologies had also been lost, but
magic had been discovered. During this time era, mankind mutated into several distinct races;
Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes, and Trolls.
The Elves, extremely long lived and possessing great magic, created the Elfstonts. As a necessary
balance to the light, darkness was also created in the beginning of time; from this darkness, the
Demons were born. After years of battle between the light and the dark, the Elves summoned their
greatest magic and created the Forbidding, a spell that imprisoned the Demons beyond the confines of
the world. They also created the Ellcrys, a beautiful silver elvish tree with crimson leaves to maintain
the Forbidding. Unfortunately, this drained nearly all the strength of the Elves, leaving them with very
little magic.
In time, Elves came to resemble more and more of the human race that had recently evolved, both in
strength and longevity. Afraid of the

I Dream
All men are created equal , was proclaimed by our forefathers in the declaration of independence, and
is the foundation of the American Dream. Since James Truslow Adams coined the term American
Dream in1931 (Wiki), a hope for the fulfillment of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Yet, in
this era, the harsh reality of poverty threatened life, restricted liberties, and covered happiness with
dust. As FDR put it so well, For too many of us life was no longer free; liberty no longer real; men
could no longer follow the pursuit of happiness. (Teslow Lecture) So why would Adams conceive of
the American Dream in the midst of the economic disparity in the Great Depression?

During WWI, wheat brought record high prices on the world market, and for the next twenty years
farmers turned the region into a vast wheat factory (OOM pg. 675) This destroyed the native grasses
and top soil. When the drought and dust storms hit, tens of millions of acres of rich topsoil blew away.
A Denver journalist named the worst region near eastern Colorado the Dust Bowl . Black blizzards of
dust a mile and a half high rolled across the landscape, darkening the sky ...Dust storms made it
difficult to breathe. Dust pneumonia and other respiratory infections afflicted thousands (OOM pg.
675). The photo Farmer and Sons in Dust Storm, Cimarron County, Oklahoma, 1936 by Arthur
Rothstein (DAP pg. 269), captures the horror of this disaster. A father and his two small sons cover
their eyes from the black air that permeates the photo. They are making their way for cover to a small
dilapidated shack the size of a shed. The shack appears to likely provide little protection from the
darkness that is filling their lungs. Other than the shack, and the people, the photo shows nothing. The
land is barren; there are neither animals nor even roads are shown. The photo leaves us to wonder how
they survive, or even if they will. If they were to leave, would they have to do so on foot? With the
storms, and the lack of money, they are essentially trapped. Photos like these, as well as literature
about the devastation led to national sympathy. FDR tried to address this

Introduction
It has come to my attention, that employees are concerned over some issues with the health insurance
plan we offer, retirement and saving plans, as well as their time off and FMLA rights. I have come up
with an excellent employee benefit plan that would educate the employees on their rights and show
them how these benefits are best for their situations.
The employee benefit plan includes the different types of health insurance they can pick from that

funds or take the funds out with no penalties against you.
Time Off and FMLA Rights
We understand that things happen in a person life that must have actions taken as soon as possible.
There are a few options the employee has as far as time off or leave. All time off or leaves are unpaid
but the employee can choose the time off needed.
1. The fist leave/time off the company offers is a 10 day personal leave. This is for employees that
have worked out their 60 day probation period. You can request this leave only if your probation
period is over. This is an unpaid leave and employees must return to work after the 10 days or they are
considered as job abandonment at which time termination will follow. 2. The second leave/time off
granted to the employee is a 30 day personal leave. This is for employees that have worked out their
60 day probation period. You can request this leave only if your probation period is over. This is an
unpaid leave and employees must return to work after the 30 days or they are considered as job
abandonment at which time termination will follow.
3. The last leave/time off the company offers is FMLA. To qualify for time off through FMLA,
employees must be employed for 12 month and a minimum of 1,250

Essay on Native Americans vs the United States of America
Times were very hard for Native Americans during the mid to late 1800s. The reasons for their
afflictions could only be blamed upon the United States of America. For thousands of years, Native
Americans had roamed around the Americas. There had also been many tribes spread across the West
that fought between each other in order to have their land.1 It wasn t until after reconstruction in the
United States, that the white Americans started having ordeals with the Native Americans. The main
tribes involved in the conflict starting around 1850 were the Lakota people and the Sioux. The
relationship between them can only be remembered for broken treaties and wars. It is true that these
tribes had only mind there own business for many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was then that in 1854, that the Senate made amendments to the Treaty of Laramie of 1851, that
allowed the United States to build forts in the Territories among the Oregon Trail.1 The Indians would
agree to sign it2 but the outcome would only be incompatibility. At around 1864, an Indian tribe
known as the Sioux would attack these forts and start a two year war with the United States.3 After the
battle, in 1866, the council initiated Fort Laramie of 1868 that made peace with the Sioux and
respected their land.4 From the first article of this treaty, the tribes would agree to abstain in future
from all hostilities whatever against each other. 5 The treaty would also make the Native Americans
from the Sioux to recompense for any wrongs committed against citizens of the United States.6 The
most important article was to respect and acknowledge each other s territories. 7 In this case, they
were to give the land of west Missouri and the Black Hills.8 If the Native Americans were to make
any violations upon this Treaty, then the United States government would have to retain their promise
to respect territories that belonged to the Indians. The Treaty of Laramie would be broken in 1874
when gold would soon be discovered by miners in the Black Hills. Unfortunately, the United States
had to fight for it.9 However, in

Critical Analysis Of A Room Of One s Own
A Critical Look at A Room of One s Own The classic feminist essay A Room of One s Own, written
by Virginia Woolf, was first published on October 24th, 1929 by the Hogarth Press in England, and by
Harcourt Brace Co. in the United States in a time that desperately needed such a work. Woolf s
commentary sparked much debate in the literary world, as it concerns not only the struggles of women
in fiction, and how they are systematically oppressed in a field dominated by men, but also the general
inequality demonstrated by a patriarchal society. This dissertation, though relevant and
groundbreaking during the time it was written, has lost a majority of its persuasiveness and power in a
modern society that is far more likely to embrace women in fiction. Due to an ever changing
civilization, Woolf s novel no longer possesses much cutting edge, and is thus deemed irrelevant, a
word practically synonymous with boring today. Virginia Woolf set out to write the essay A Room of
One s Own to discuss women in fiction, but had not decided what the main topic would be.
Throughout her work she dances between three main points: women and what they are like (...) the
fiction that they write (...and) the fiction that is written about them (Woolf 1). She does this by
employing a fictional narrator called Mary, who explores Woolf s thoughts on the topics, while within
daily situations. The entirety of the essay during the time of its writing and publication served the
purpose of sparking

Jackie O Working Girl And The Despair Of Jackie Kennedy
November 22, 1963. This is the date that Jacqueline (Jackie) Kennedy Onassis forever lost her
husband, John F. Kennedy (JFK). After this tragedy, also remarrying and losing that husband as well,
Jackie found fulfillment in becoming a book editor shown in Jackie O, Working Girl (Lawrence). Not
only does Jackie O, Working Girl shows how Jackie became a book editor, it also tells women
working is not a bad thing. On the other hand, The Despair of Jackie Kennedy delves deep into the
details of her mourning over the death of her husband. Other than these two articles talking about
Jackie Kennedy, the only other similarity these articles share is they both use some of the same
rhetorical strategies: purpose, tone, and audience selection. Although their methods in using purpose,
tone, and guiding an audience however is completely different. To begin, the purpose of the articles
Jackie O, Working Girl and The Despair of Jackie Kennedy is considerably contrary. The purpose of
Jackie O, Working Girl is not only to tell about how Jackie became a book editor, it also shows
women that it is okay to work even when they do not need to. Jackie became a book editor not
because she needed the money, but because it was something for her to do (Lawrence). Jackie
described in an interview why she chose to work. Lawrence wrote that Jackie said, what has been sad
for many women of my generation is that they weren t supposed to work if they had families. There
they were, with the highest education, and what were they to do when the children were grown watch
the raindrops coming down the window pane? Leave their fine minds unexercised? Of course, women
should work if they want to. You have to do something you enjoy. Women may not need to work, but
what else is there to do when everything has already been finished? The purpose of The Despair of
Jackie Kennedy is to inform people of the true events on how Jackie dealt with her husband s
assassination, and the toll it took on her. Jackie couldn t stop obsessing over how she could have
prevented JFK s assassination. She would run the scenarios over and over again in her head if only she
recognized the sound of the first gunshot, if only she pulled him down into the car,

What Does The Conch Shell Represent In Lord Of The Flies
The Power of Symbols This is a story about symbols can shape a novel for the good or worse. They
play a pivotal role in the plot, and often can be metaphors relating to the real world or something that
is important. Symbols are not just metaphors that are put there on accident, they are well thought out
and are used to make a point. William Golding depicts the importance of symbols and shows how and
why they are used. In Lord of the Flies, William Golding depicts the conch shell as the most important
symbol in the book because of how important it is to the characters, showing their true sides. The

As Jack decides he does not want order and civilization he breaks away and chants, Conch! Conch!
Shouted Jack. We don t need the conch anymore (101 102). This is important because is shows that in
the real world, there will always be people that are opposed to order. The conch which is a metaphor
for the world represents order. As Jack is explaining the rules for his reckless society he delcrests that,
And the conch doesn t count at this end of the island (126). Jack is clearly does not want order or a
civilized island. He is disrespecting the conch, and possibly throwing his life away. As the boys are
talking in their circle, Jack seized the conch (36).
Jack shows disrespect to the conc and does not seem to care about it. When the conch is in the wrong
hands, bad things will come, this shows how powerful it can be. One person holding a conch shell
may determine the fate of the island. Lord of the Flies is a novel about how symbols can dictate
someone s fate and be the difference between life and death. Symbols can often be metaphors, that
will dictate how the story goes. Without symbols, a novel would not be complete, and the characters
would not have survived. Symbols are a necessity, which can often lead to the uprise of the downfall

Hebrew Wisdom Essay
Found in The Old Testament of the Holy Bible is a variety of teaching of Hebrew wisdom. I find
Proverbs and Ecclesiastes to lend much instruction to the subject of diligence and laziness. The
Hebrew teaching is quick to point out that diligence leads to wisdom and laziness is folly. Choices in
life and sinful behavior ends up in disastrous circumstances. In the essence of (The Essence of the Old
Testament) Hebrew wisdom literature teaches us how to make good decisions in life, but also how to
make godly decisions. This essay will explore how the Hebrew wisdom teaches the repercussions of
living wise and diligent verses living lazy and excluding God.
The Bible offers an abundance of teachings that enlighten us to the value of diligence verses the
pitfalls of laziness. All too often we see people who are either looking for an easy contribution or, a
way to better their current circumstances. The goal is to show and help the ones who have a sense of
desire to contribute to society and afford them the opportunity to prosper. Definition of diligence is
careful and continued hard work much like the Ant. Notice, none of them have defined leaders, all of
them live in colonies, have separation of labor, and collect and store up food for those long days. They
can also carry 10 50 times its weight. Laziness is described as a person who is a slothful or indolent.
(Proverbs 6:6 NSV) teaches us Go to the ant, you lazy man! Observe its ways and become wise .

Those mandates endure as the guidance for human beings. Humans live by rules, which serve as

Language In To The Lighthouse, By Virginia Woolf
Virginia Woolf (1882 1941) was a prolific writer, whose style changed with each new novel, and her
work represented the historical moment when art was integrated into society. Her modernist novel To
the Lighthouse stray s from the conventional forms of writing, concentrating not on the plot but on the
characters consciousness and physical development, producing an innovative type of narrative which
depicts realities beneath appearances, and at the same time brings about a deep exploration of the
human mind. To the Lighthouse was written in 1927 and it is considered a masterpiece due to the way
in which Woolf experimented with the stream of consciousness as well as with the emotional feelings
of her characters. The composition has relatively ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This game of back and forth between what Lily and Mr. Ramsey are thinking, and what they are actual
saying is clarified with the help of the parentheses, which signal the sudden switches in perspective.
Thus at moments it is one character s consciousness, at others it is the narrative voice, and afterwards
another character s consciousness is introduced, all of these being combined within one sentence.
These aspects are psychological elements that constitute the basis for a modernist writing, and as
Virginia Woolf said in her essay Modern Fiction for the moderns the point of interest lies very likely
in the dark places of psychology. (11) Though the novel contains a multitude of conventional narration
and descriptions, the interior monologue is very often employed so as to give the novel its special
character of seeming to be always within the consciousness of the characters. A good example of
Woolf´s technique can be seen in the fallowing

become a very conflicting issue in research and among economist all over the world. This may be due
to the importance of savings generally to the economic growth and development of any nation.
However, the structure of every economy cannot be generalised by a particular economics variation
because various countries have different social security and pension schemes, and different tax

Fluoride Essay
Fluoride
Fluoride is a mineral that occurs naturally in almost all foods and water supplies. The fluoride ion
comes from the element fluorine. Fluorine, the 13th most abundant element in the earth s crust, is
never encountered in its free state in nature. It exists only in combination with other elements as a
fluoride compound. Fluoride is effective in preventing and reversing the early signs of tooth decay.
Researchers have shown that there are several ways through which fluoride achieves its decay
preventive effects. It makes the tooth structure stronger, so teeth are more resistant to acid attacks.
Acid is formed when the bacteria in plaque break down sugars and carbohydrates from the diet.
Repeated acid attacks break down the tooth, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nearly 145 million Americans are currently receiving the benefits of optimally fluoridated water. With
the 1995 enactment of Assembly
Bill 733 in California, ten states and territories in the United States now mandate fluoridation through
legislation. Besides California, these include seven other states (Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois,
Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio and South Dakota), as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
Three states (South Dakota, Rhode Island and Kentucky), as well as the District of
Columbia, have achieved the ultimate success with 100 percent of their treatable community water
systems providing the benefits of fluoridation to their citizens.
While safety has been an issue frequently raised by those opposed to fluoridation, scientific data from
peer reviewed clinical research provide overwhelming evidence that the adjustment of fluoride levels
in drinking water to the optimal level is undoubtedly safe. Hundreds of studies on fluoride metabolism
have tracked the outcomes of ingested fluoride. Ingested fluoride essentially travels three metabolic
pathways. It is either excreted by the kidneys, absorbed by the teeth or taken up in the skeleton. At
optimal levels fluoride has never been demonstrated to cause skeletal fluorosis or other bone
problems. On the contrary, there is mounting evidence that continued exposure of individuals to low

overwhelmed to hear that we were going to an amusement park. Just picturing all of the exhilarating
rides, marvelous fun, and humorous laughter made me feel rapturous and ecstatic. When we went to
the amusement park we went on all of the rides that we presumed we would enjoy. We went on the
bumper cars, go karts, and water rides but there was one ride in particular that stood out to me. That
one ride was a roller coaster. Roller coasters are the types of rides that are very deceiving. They look
very joyous and cool, but once you get on one you are filled with anxiety and regret. All of the
pessimistic thoughts flow through your brain and you know that

Reflection On The Indian Boarding School Gathering
I was able to attend the Indian Boarding School Gathering conference at the Turtle Mountain
Community College. Listening to the stories, you could really feel the affection and how it affected
our elders. I was saddened to hear the many awful stories about how our people survived this terrible
event, let alone how the children had to grow up. However, according to the stories, there was both
good memories and bad. As I recall Mrs. McCleave mentioning, the saying Kill the Indian and save
the man , was from the federal government. This was Pratt s motto. It was stressed that civilizing the
Indians by teaching them English, and then converting them to Christianity and allowing them to
trade. Pratt also trimmed Indians hair and prohibited traditions such as clothing, dancing or religious
ceremony. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though I ve heard the brutal stories before, I never understood anything about the Catholic
Church. After this conference, I understand the emotional roller coaster that comes along with the
church. The beatings, rape, sexual assaults all liberally come back to each survivor. All the feelings
that they were feeling, the hurt they went through, the loneliness, and the heartache. They can t just
brush it under the rug. Although they may feel broken, they are warriors for overcoming everything
and remaining strong. Children were not able to speak their native tongue, or wear their clothing attire
that they came with that was related to their Native culture. They really wanted to make all native
children white. Boarding schools have left a huge impact on individuals, families, tribal communities,

Africentric Alternative School Case Study
The expression separate but equal, is the philosophy in which was the foundation of racial segregation
in the late 19th and 20th centuries and is commonly referred to the Brown v. Board of Education case.
Separate but equal is the process of granting all citizens of the state the same rights and freedoms but
finding ways around the law that would allow racial discrimination to be applied in all situations.
However, separate but equal is not always a problematic circumstance, as the Africentric Alternative
School located in Toronto Ontario is an institution that was developed in order to cease the trend of
African descent students dropping out of school. This institution is not an issue of segregation of
African children as all races and religions are allowed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Retrieved from http://schoolweb.tdsb.on.ca/africentricschool/PrincipalsMessage.aspx). The principal
of the school clearly states that all students will receive the same education that the Toronto School
Board required. The only difference is the school includes more African based lessons within the
curriculum. The school may be separate or different from other schools in the Toronto district but still
offer all students the same education and opportunities. Secondly, the Africentric Alternative School
also includes education of African topics to increase the students pride within themselves. The school
believes that if the students have a greater knowledge of their background, they will that will be able
to have more respect and diligence for their present and future. Canadian history and other essential
topics required by the Ontario School Board are included within the curriculum, thus proving to not be
problematic as all students history backgrounds are being taught. Furthermore, there were two overall
reasons for why the school was created for the intent of educating minority students and not for
whites. Current scholars and researchers of education within the

It is Advisable that Everyone Should Get Vaccinated...
H1N1 Influenza ( Swine Flu ) is a flu pandemic that has recently spread all around the world. The
Swine Flu began its massive spread through Mexico in April (2009) and by June, the World Health
Organization raised the alert level to a full blown pandemic across the globe. The virus has spread
rapidly throughout the world. Luckily, the governments around the globe have offered an
immunization flu shot against this pandemic that is available to some citizens at this present time. In
Lawrence Gostin s Swine Flu Vaccine: What Is Fair? (2009), he explains his doubts for the Swine Flu
vaccination by emphasizing how rich countries have a large advantage over poor countries in
receiving the vaccine, how high authorities are hardly helping the ... Show more content on

In his article, Swine Flu Vaccine: What Is Fair?, Gostin points out that rich countries in general will
probably use their vastly superior spending power to acquire vaccines. Stockpiling by the rich, of
course, leaves poor countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America much more vulnerable (11). After all,
everyone needs to be protected from the dangers of H1N1 Influenza throughout the world and income
should not play a role in who is vaccinated. It is a reality that every individual is just as important as
the next and should have a fair chance at a vaccination. Organizations are creating the vaccines with
the idea of profit in mind and this is not fair to the poorer countries around the globe. Wealthy
countries are definitely more likely to acquire vaccinations in relation to poorer ones. Second, it is
advisable that everyone should get vaccinated against H1N1 Influenza because it can prevent the
Swine Flu from spreading any further. If the entire world s population was vaccinated against the
Swine Flu, this would result in the complete control of the virus. We need to stop H1N1 Influenza in
its tracks and protect all citizens from the flu regardless of their income or social class. Gostin
observes that President Obama plans to spend a minuscule $350 million of Swine Flu resources for
global health and child survival, and two thirds of that sum will go to

The Night Of The Broken Glass By Markus Zusak
On November 9, 1933, Joseph Goebbels made a speech that initiated a crowd of violent Nazi activists
who would burn down over 1,000 synagogues, and destroy over 7,000 businesses, thus creating
Kristallnacht, the night of the broken glass . Following this act, was the beginning of the Holocaust. 6
months later, on May 10, 1933, members of the Nazi German Student Association, as well as other
university students, burned close to 25,00 volumes of un German books to promote their nationwide
campaign: Actions against the un German spirit .
Markus Zusak uses the monstrosities of the Kristallnacht and Jewish book burning period in his book,
The Book Thief as a reminder of the effects of the Nazi assaults on everyday life.
In this essay, I will explain the reasoning behind the Nazi book burnings and what kind of books
would have ended up in the fire that Leisel witnessed in The Book Thief. I will also argue that The
Book Thief presents a kind of protest against the Nazi assault on knowledge and social consciousness
through the celebration of reading and writing as a kind of power of human capabilities. As part of the
Hitlerite attempt to control society, Nazi members organized book burning events in hopes to destroy
all un German literacy. All material that was viewed representations of forward thinking that opposed
the ideologies of Nazism were banished and eliminated. This act raises the question: what provoked
the Nazi member to attack the literature of communist,

Essay on Two Ageing Theories and Examples
There are two theories of ageing. The disengagement theory is when the elderly unfortunately start to
give up with activities or social life. They become withdrawn from society. This is when you
disengage from any way of contact or interaction. The reason for disengagement theory may be
because physical functions deteriorate. There are three phases of disengagement theory. These are
shrinkage of life space is when you are not working or have no contact with friends and family. You
don t get to meet new people. You decide not to take up any hobbies or activities. The second phase is
increased individuality. This is when you become independent and what others do does not matter to
you. The third phase is acceptance. You start to accept ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The activity theory is when you will carry on with any activities or interests that you will have. This is
to stay physically and mentally active. You may start to disengage with some things such as leaving
job or leaving family however you will start new activities that you may have an interest in. A theory
is an explanation or reason for that fact.
In 1966 Bromley argued that people do engagement but need to remain active in order to prevent
disengagement to cause major problems. He said that it is important to have an interest in some
activities because being disengaged can have an effect on an individual and lead them to isolation and
depression.
A theory of ageing is a explanation or reason for the natural cause of ageing. It explains the changes a
person goes through when they age. Theories can be proved or sided by laws and facts and tested
hypotheses.
Disengagement theory
An example of disengagement theory is when a pensioner quits his job or does not take up any
hobbies. They may just stay at home and not even socialise with friends and family.
Advantages of the disengagement theory are people can start to rest and not worry about anything.
They become independent and take their mind off things. This may be because they are
understandable that it is the final stages of life so they may want to be independent and not do
anything. However there are many disadvantages of the disengagement theory. When a person
disengages, they are

The Navy Is A Great Career Opportunity
The Navy, a branch of the U.S. military, is the elite force that fights on water, land and in the sky. It is
filled with both leaders and followers, and everyone in the Navy has to be ready to do both at anytime.
The U.S. Navy has countless opportunities. From an aviator to engineer, there is always a spot open to
anyone interested. I believe a career in the Navy is a great fit for me. I am not yet sure what I would
like to do in the Navy, but I am deciding between becoming an EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal,
aka a bomb defuser), SEAL (SEa, Air and Land), aviator and Marine. I can do anything I set my mind
to, and I believe that I will one day serve my country in the Navy. The Navy is a great career
opportunity for anyone who is willing to defend their country. (Gibb) Education plays a big role in the
Navy. Even though college is not necessary to enlist, everyone needs to be able to solve problems and
have some type of education. The United States Naval Academy is a great college where everybody
who graduates needs to serve a minimum of five years in the Navy. It is not easy to gain admission
into the United States Naval Academy and more preparation in high school is key. AP classes are the
best ideas in high school, and doing more is always better. That means no free periods, and more
honors classes. The United States Naval Academy is very selective. They take about 1,500 people
each year, and that is why a great high school education is the key to getting into the Naval

The Advertisements For Gucci s Perfume And Calvin Klein
According to Miya Yamanouchi, the author of Embrace Your Sexual Self, Both men and women
experience pressure to conform to social standards of attractiveness. Men to look strong and be tough,
women to look pretty and soft. Stereotypes affect every gender in the society because people have a
prejudice on themselves and others. In Men s Men and Women s Women, written by Steve Craig,
addresses the expectations that the society places on men and women. For instance, men must be
masculine and wealthy and women must have a perfect body shape with beautiful facial features to be
considered as attractive. Nowadays, the advertisements are taking advantage of such a social norm to
lure consumers to purchase their goods. The advertisements for Gucci s perfume and Calvin Klein s
cologne are especially good examples to demonstrate such pressure and reflect the consumers
psychological behavior. The advertisements highlight gender stereotypes through utilizing the
impression of opposite sex and incorporate an underlying sense of sexism through the designs of the
backgrounds, the purpose of wearing fragrances and the reinforcements on Women s Men and Men s
Men; these advertisements contribute to the consumers perception of their physical appearance by
delivering a fraudulent image of perfection through their models.
The effects of the chosen background designs of Gucci s and Calvin Klein s advertisements influence
the focus of the subjects in the promotions, consequently targeting the

Humor In Stand Up Comedy
A Discourse Analysis of Maz Jobrani s Stand up Comedy
1. Introduction
1.1 Background
This is a study of humor in stand up comedy, focusing on analyzing a script using the Cooperative
Principle and Flouting the Maxims by Grice (1975). Humor is used in our daily life to address social,
cultural or political issues in an entertaining manner. Repeatedly, people express their opinion and
ideas with short, funny, exaggerating, dramatic and sarcastic ways to achieve certain effects, thereby
they could feel humorous. Also, humor is practical because without even realizing it, the audience will
change their view on matters they were once deeply convinced with. In this article, I will shed light on
the different functions of humor. I will study and analyze the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It generally involves two main aspects: definition and pragmatics. In this article, I will only deal with
pragmatics. Hancher (1980) explains that humor comes out by violating speech act in appropriate
condition or associated conversational theory of implicature. Raskin (1985) differentiates humor
dialogs from daily normal conversation and proposes the theory of humor s cooperative principle in
which listeners do not take the speaker s words at face value. The speaker is not expected to tell the
truth or to give related information. Attardo (1993) explains the substance of humor and shows the
results behind violating Grice s cooperative principle. Many studies and researches attempt to
illustrate the analysis of humor form the pragmatics point of view. However, only few works explore
humor with discourse analysis. In this article I will apply the pragmatic theory using the cooperative
principle by Grice (1975) and emphasizing on the four maxims merged with discourse analysis to
reveal the result of humor in English in the light of flouting or non observance of Grice s cooperative

Amber Hagerman Research Paper
Imagine your 9 year old daughter just riding her bike in the streets with her little brother. She is as
happy as she can be. Then in a split second a pickup truck drives by and swoops her up. You have no
idea what to do except call the police. Once you did there wasn t much they can do about a child
abduction. Well, this all changed in 1996 when a little girl named Amber Hagerman was abducted and
murdered. On January 13, 1996, nine year old Amber Rene Hagerman was abducted while riding her
bicycle in Arlington, Texas. A close neighbor witnessed the victim getting taken in a pickup truck and
soon called the police. 2 days later of a long search Amber Hagerman was found with a slit throat in a
creek. Later on, through the investigation, the police soon found out that Amber was sexually abused
before getting killed. After finding Amber Hagerman s body no trace of evidence was found. There ...

In 2005 a new trend was emerging. A man named Richard Cohen claimed he could use conversion
therapy to convert gays into straight men. He claimed that he had once been gay and is now happily
married with children (CNN Report..., 2006). His methods of conversion included trauma counseling
as well as catharsis methods and group therapy, only to name a few. In his trauma counseling in men
who had been sexually assaulted in their past, he would coddle them and give them a safe haven by
holding them like children, he would also give them a tennis racket and tell them to hit a pillow and
yell at whomever it was they were angry with (CNN Report..., 2006). His methods not only seem

Mechanisms of Axon Guidance
Axons are sensitive and their respond depend on the local environment. When the tectum is removed,
retinal axons grow toward the missing tissue, demonstrating that optic axons utilize these
neighbourhood signals as opposed to a long run diffusible attractant from the tectum as they grow
along the optic tract (Taylor, 1990). In the event of a small piece of the optic tract neuroepithelium is
turned 90° preceding the axons enter it, then they become misoriented when they enter the pivoted
transplant (Harris, 1989) and correct their course of growth once they exit. These results confirm that
the neuroepithelium contains local information to which growing axons respond and that they are not
simply following gradients of attractants released by their targets (Sanes et al., 2012). Growth cone
filopodia are long, motile, and covered with receptors, also have a very high surface to volume ratio,
which can help convert membrane signals into large changes in intracellular messengers such as
calcium. Filopodia can show localized transient elevations of intracellular calcium and these transients
reduce filopodial motility (Sanes et al., 2012). Calcium transients can be directly artificially activated
in growth cone filopodia by loading neurons with a calcium caging agent that releases calcium upon
stimulation with a pulse of light (Gomez et al., 2001). Experiments in which calcium is uncaged on
one side of a growth cone generally cause the growth cone to turn toward the side that has

  • 2. The Restorative Justice Process Restorative justice is a very complex process in the justice system. It is a positive program that helps in the aid of victims of crimes. The process for restorative justice is broken down into steps which map out how the process should take place. According to Johnstone, Restorative justice is the theory that justice aids the victim and emphasizes the repair of harm caused by unjust or harmful behavior. In my opinion the restorative justice process is a great accomplishment to the justice system. Restorative justice does not always work as intended but the theory of which it is intended for is enough to be improved upon. The steps needed to assure that this process works or does what it is intended to are short yet effective. The first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mildred, the victim, had seen what appeared to be a complete success story. Her fear of her neighborhood was greatly reduced and she was doing much better than before the crime had taken place. She was socializing with neighbors and had become a better person. David, the burglar, had a much greater success in his process. The relationship he had with his parents was stronger than ever. David started to attend college where he would begin coaching a little league baseball team. The team that David coached had run ins with Betty s husband s team in which David s team won most of the time. David made many efforts to make things right with Mildred and apologize whenever he could. He had purchased a clock that he thought would be a great gift to Mildred to replace the watch he had stolen. David has also become a restorative circles facilitator like the ones who had helped Mildred and himself. The community had become a much safer and better place because of this. • 3. The Most Important Aspects Of Radical Reconstruction And... During reconstruction, some 2000 African American held public office, from the local level all the way up to the US. Senate, though, they never achieved representation in government proportionate to their numbers. The term Reconstruction Era or Radical Reconstruction in the context of the history of the United States, has two senses: the first covers the complete history of the entire country from 1861 to 1877 following the Civil War (1861 1865); the second sense focuses on the attempted transformation of the Southern United States from 1863 to 1877. Also, the period from the end of World War II until the late 1960s is often referred as the Second Reconstruction. One of the most important aspects of the Reconstruction 1861 1877 and second reconstruction 1945 1968, was the active participation of African American community in the political, economic and social life of the South. According to history.com staff, 2010; The rise of African American leaders during the Reconstruction in political life was a quest for autonomy and equal rights under the law, not only as individuals, but also as black community as a whole. After April 1865, took place an extensive mobilization within the Black community, with meetings, parades and petitions calling for legal and political rights, including the all important right to vote . During the first two years of Reconstruction, blacks organized Equal right leagues throughout the South and held state and local conventions to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. One Tree Hill Analysis One Tree Hill There are always stereotypes in high school. People are placed into groups. You re a jock, you re a cheerleader, you re a freak, you re into the drama department. I had a lot of trouble fitting into those groups when I was in high school because I wanted to be a part of all of them. One Tree Hill represents people who are multidimensional and who like more than one thing. Hilarie Burton, who plays Peyton Sawyer, says it perfectly herself. One Tree Hill shows diversity among all. The use of every stereotype is used in this series to allow every viewer feel as though they have a place, making the show significant for young adult viewers especially. The main characters in the show are all friends, yet they all have different interests. Despite the drama, relatable for any high school viewer. While other shows place teens into certain stereotypical groups, One Tree Hill does just the opposite by allowing everyone to be themselves. Dissimilar from most shows on television and stereotypes of high school, One Tree Hill does a substantial work of portraying the diversity of all people by bringing all together. Peyton Sawyer is not like any typical highschool girl. She is a cheerleader but also enjoys making dark art. Naturally, she is in her room listening to punk rock music and drawing. Peyton is pretty uncheery (if one asks Lucas Scott). Therefore, she doesn t come off as the cheerleader type. The only reason that she is a cheerleader is because her ... • 5. The Legend Of The Chosen Legend of the Chosen Much of the Earth s landscape had been changed by The Great Wars, the war that caused the holocaust, but some landmarks still remain. And these wars rearranged the planet s geographical attributes and wiped out most human life on Earth. Each land was renamed after the compass point it faced; the Northland, the Southland, the Eastland, and the Westland. Towers, buildings, homes, Helicopters, towers, and buildings are in ruins, but have been in this state for quite some time, with layers of moss and green vines covering them. Most advanced technologies had also been lost, but magic had been discovered. During this time era, mankind mutated into several distinct races; Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes, and Trolls. The Elves, extremely long lived and possessing great magic, created the Elfstonts. As a necessary balance to the light, darkness was also created in the beginning of time; from this darkness, the Demons were born. After years of battle between the light and the dark, the Elves summoned their greatest magic and created the Forbidding, a spell that imprisoned the Demons beyond the confines of the world. They also created the Ellcrys, a beautiful silver elvish tree with crimson leaves to maintain the Forbidding. Unfortunately, this drained nearly all the strength of the Elves, leaving them with very little magic. In time, Elves came to resemble more and more of the human race that had recently evolved, both in strength and longevity. Afraid of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. I Dream All men are created equal , was proclaimed by our forefathers in the declaration of independence, and is the foundation of the American Dream. Since James Truslow Adams coined the term American Dream in1931 (Wiki), a hope for the fulfillment of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Yet, in this era, the harsh reality of poverty threatened life, restricted liberties, and covered happiness with dust. As FDR put it so well, For too many of us life was no longer free; liberty no longer real; men could no longer follow the pursuit of happiness. (Teslow Lecture) So why would Adams conceive of the American Dream in the midst of the economic disparity in the Great Depression? Perhaps it was because we don t know what we have until ... During WWI, wheat brought record high prices on the world market, and for the next twenty years farmers turned the region into a vast wheat factory (OOM pg. 675) This destroyed the native grasses and top soil. When the drought and dust storms hit, tens of millions of acres of rich topsoil blew away. A Denver journalist named the worst region near eastern Colorado the Dust Bowl . Black blizzards of dust a mile and a half high rolled across the landscape, darkening the sky ...Dust storms made it difficult to breathe. Dust pneumonia and other respiratory infections afflicted thousands (OOM pg. 675). The photo Farmer and Sons in Dust Storm, Cimarron County, Oklahoma, 1936 by Arthur Rothstein (DAP pg. 269), captures the horror of this disaster. A father and his two small sons cover their eyes from the black air that permeates the photo. They are making their way for cover to a small dilapidated shack the size of a shed. The shack appears to likely provide little protection from the darkness that is filling their lungs. Other than the shack, and the people, the photo shows nothing. The land is barren; there are neither animals nor even roads are shown. The photo leaves us to wonder how they survive, or even if they will. If they were to leave, would they have to do so on foot? • 8. Essay on Native Americans vs the United States of America Times were very hard for Native Americans during the mid to late 1800s. The reasons for their afflictions could only be blamed upon the United States of America. For thousands of years, Native Americans had roamed around the Americas. There had also been many tribes spread across the West that fought between each other in order to have their land.1 It wasn t until after reconstruction in the United States, that the white Americans started having ordeals with the Native Americans. The main tribes involved in the conflict starting around 1850 were the Lakota people and the Sioux. The relationship between them can only be remembered for broken treaties and wars. It was then that in 1854, that the Senate made amendments to the Treaty of Laramie of 1851, that allowed the United States to build forts in the Territories among the Oregon Trail.1 The Indians would agree to sign it2 but the outcome would only be incompatibility. At around 1864, an Indian tribe known as the Sioux would attack these forts and start a two year war with the United States.3 After the battle, in 1866, the council initiated Fort Laramie of 1868 that made peace with the Sioux and respected their land.4 From the first article of this treaty, the tribes would agree to abstain in future from all hostilities whatever against each other. 5 The treaty would also make the Native Americans from the Sioux to recompense for any wrongs committed against citizens of the United States.6 The most important article was to respect and acknowledge each other s territories. 7 In this case, they were to give the land of west Missouri and the Black Hills.8 If the Native Americans were to make any violations upon this Treaty, then the United States government would have to retain their promise to respect territories that belonged to the Indians. The Treaty of Laramie would be broken in 1874 when gold would soon be discovered by miners in the Black Hills. Unfortunately, the United States had to fight for it.9 However, in ... • 9. Critical Analysis Of A Room Of One s Own A Critical Look at A Room of One s Own The classic feminist essay A Room of One s Own, written by Virginia Woolf, was first published on October 24th, 1929 by the Hogarth Press in England, and by Harcourt Brace Co. in the United States in a time that desperately needed such a work. Woolf s commentary sparked much debate in the literary world, as it concerns not only the struggles of women in fiction, and how they are systematically oppressed in a field dominated by men, but also the general inequality demonstrated by a patriarchal society. This dissertation, though relevant and groundbreaking during the time it was written, has lost a majority of its persuasiveness and power in a modern society that is far more likely to embrace women in fiction. Due to an ever changing civilization, Woolf s novel no longer possesses much cutting edge, and is thus deemed irrelevant, a word practically synonymous with boring today. Virginia Woolf set out to write the essay A Room of One s Own to discuss women in fiction, but had not decided what the main topic would be. Throughout her work she dances between three main points: women and what they are like (...) the fiction that they write (...and) the fiction that is written about them (Woolf 1). She does this by employing a fictional narrator called Mary, who explores Woolf s thoughts on the topics, while within daily situations. The entirety of the essay during the time of its writing and publication served the purpose of sparking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Jackie O Working Girl And The Despair Of Jackie Kennedy November 22, 1963. This is the date that Jacqueline (Jackie) Kennedy Onassis forever lost her husband, John F. Kennedy (JFK). After this tragedy, also remarrying and losing that husband as well, Jackie found fulfillment in becoming a book editor shown in Jackie O, Working Girl (Lawrence). Not only does Jackie O, Working Girl shows how Jackie became a book editor, it also tells women working is not a bad thing. On the other hand, The Despair of Jackie Kennedy delves deep into the details of her mourning over the death of her husband. Other than these two articles talking about Jackie Kennedy, the only other similarity these articles share is they both use some of the same rhetorical strategies: purpose, tone, and audience selection. Although their methods in using purpose, tone, and guiding an audience however is completely different. To begin, the purpose of the articles Jackie O, Working Girl and The Despair of Jackie Kennedy is considerably contrary. The purpose of Jackie O, Working Girl is not only to tell about how Jackie became a book editor, it also shows women that it is okay to work even when they do not need to. Jackie became a book editor not because she needed the money, but because it was something for her to do (Lawrence). Jackie described in an interview why she chose to work. Lawrence wrote that Jackie said, what has been sad for many women of my generation is that they weren t supposed to work if they had families. There they were, with the highest education, and what were they to do when the children were grown watch the raindrops coming down the window pane? Leave their fine minds unexercised? Of course, women should work if they want to. You have to do something you enjoy. Women may not need to work, but what else is there to do when everything has already been finished? The purpose of The Despair of Jackie Kennedy is to inform people of the true events on how Jackie dealt with her husband s assassination, and the toll it took on her. Jackie couldn t stop obsessing over how she could have prevented JFK s assassination. She would run the scenarios over and over again in her head if only she recognized the sound of the first gunshot, if only she pulled him down into the car, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They play a pivotal role in the plot, and often can be metaphors relating to the real world or something that is important. Symbols are not just metaphors that are put there on accident, they are well thought out and are used to make a point. William Golding depicts the importance of symbols and shows how and why they are used. In Lord of the Flies, William Golding depicts the conch shell as the most important symbol in the book because of how important it is to the characters, showing their true sides. As Jack is explaining the rules for his reckless society he delcrests that, And the conch doesn t count at this end of the island (126). Jack is clearly does not want order or a civilized island. Jack shows disrespect to the conc and does not seem to care about it. When the conch is in the wrong hands, bad things will come, this shows how powerful it can be. One person holding a conch shell may determine the fate of the island. Lord of the Flies is a novel about how symbols can dictate someone s fate and be the difference between life and death. • 13. Hebrew Wisdom Essay Found in The Old Testament of the Holy Bible is a variety of teaching of Hebrew wisdom. I find Proverbs and Ecclesiastes to lend much instruction to the subject of diligence and laziness. The Hebrew teaching is quick to point out that diligence leads to wisdom and laziness is folly. Choices in life and sinful behavior ends up in disastrous circumstances. In the essence of (The Essence of the Old Testament) Hebrew wisdom literature teaches us how to make good decisions in life, but also how to make godly decisions. This essay will explore how the Hebrew wisdom teaches the repercussions of living wise and diligent verses living lazy and excluding God. The Bible offers an abundance of teachings that enlighten us to the value of diligence verses the pitfalls of laziness. All too often we see people who are either looking for an easy contribution or, a way to better their current circumstances. The goal is to show and help the ones who have a sense of desire to contribute to society and afford them the opportunity to prosper. Definition of diligence is careful and continued hard work much like the Ant. Language In To The Lighthouse, By Virginia Woolf Virginia Woolf (1882 1941) was a prolific writer, whose style changed with each new novel, and her work represented the historical moment when art was integrated into society. Her modernist novel To the Lighthouse stray s from the conventional forms of writing, concentrating not on the plot but on the characters consciousness and physical development, producing an innovative type of narrative which depicts realities beneath appearances, and at the same time brings about a deep exploration of the human mind. After all, everyone needs to be protected from the dangers of H1N1 Influenza throughout the world and income should not play a role in who is vaccinated. It is a reality that every individual is just as important as the next and should have a fair chance at a vaccination. • 32. Mechanisms of Axon Guidance Axons are sensitive and their respond depend on the local environment. When the tectum is removed, retinal axons grow toward the missing tissue, demonstrating that optic axons utilize these neighbourhood signals as opposed to a long run diffusible attractant from the tectum as they grow along the optic tract (Taylor, 1990). In the event of a small piece of the optic tract neuroepithelium is turned 90° preceding the axons enter it, then they become misoriented when they enter the pivoted transplant (Harris, 1989) and correct their course of growth once they exit. These results confirm that the neuroepithelium contains local information to which growing axons respond and that they are not simply following gradients of attractants released by their targets (Sanes et al., 2012). Growth cone filopodia are long, motile, and covered with receptors, also have a very high surface to volume ratio, which can help convert membrane signals into large changes in intracellular messengers such as calcium. Filopodia can show localized transient elevations of intracellular calcium and these transients reduce filopodial motility (Sanes et al., 2012). Calcium transients can be directly artificially activated in growth cone filopodia by loading neurons with a calcium caging agent that releases calcium upon stimulation with a pulse of light (Gomez et al., 2001).
