The Growing Importance Of Ethical Business Managers
The Growing Importance of Ethical Business Managers
Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw (2010) describe that the need for ethical business managers and practices
has never been greater. Recent financial scandals have exposed issues in the management decision
making process, suggesting a need to develop the necessary analytical and empathetic qualities so
future corporate leaders may be moral managers (Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw, 2010). This recent
pattern of business misconduct (Michaelson, 2015) and single minded pursuit of profit has made
the promotion of ethical values a key concern for modern business organizations (Julia Shaw
Hillary Shaw, 2010). This paper will discuss how literary fiction (i.e. novels, literature, narrative,
fiction, drama, comics) can help organizations develop ethical managers by discussing (1) the
growing importance of ethical business managers (2) the benefits of a novel approach to business
ethics, and (3) the moral value of literary fiction to business.
During the past few years, many companies have seen their reputations plummet in the wake of
various corporate scandals (Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw, 2010). With this context of an amoral and
inept set of global management practices, Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw (2010) propose the need for a
new breed of manager, namely the moral manager. While Eastwood describes that leadership is an
essentially moral act, he elaborates that there is a disconnection between this notion and the
behavior of some business

Comparing Goffman s Stigma And Social Identity
Stigma and Social Identity, is one of the chapters from a book called Stigma: Notes on the
Management of Spoiled Identity written by Erving Goffman that discuss in depth about stigma.
Firstly, in this chapter, Goffman discuss about the origins of the word stigma from the Greeks
and Christian perspective that tend to define stigma as bodily evidence of unusualness.
Nowadays, the word stigma is use to label disgrace rather than the bodily evidence of it. There are
three types of stigmas; physical defects, blemishes of individual character and tribal stigmata of
race, color and religion. All of these stigmas can deteriorate the claims of normality .
Besides, in this chapter, Goffman discuss on how people in a society tend to unconsciously ... Show

He saw stigma as a procedure based on social construction of identity. Besides, he also analyzed
the effects of stigma on people and even individuals. In this article it shows on how people who
have been stigmatized internalized the stigma that they had and how it can affects their behavior.
Stigma can cause many negative consequences that can lead people to engage in maladaptive
behaviors that can also lead to mental illnesses. It is really important for us to realize that every
human is just human being and it is really important to accept people the way they

Was The Atomic Bomb Justified Dbq
Dropping the bomb could kill up to 1 million soldiers. Was it worth it? Dropping the bomb, only
over 100,000 people were killed. That s saving 900,000 lives. I do believe that dropping the
bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was necessary. Here are the reasons why: Japan s surrender
could have ended the war faster, the attacks could have gotten worse as time in the war gained.
Japan had already caused great damage to the United States.
Another key thing to remember is the war could have ended sooner. In document two, we learned
that President Truman didn t want to drop the atomic bombs, but it would hopefully lead the war
to an end. He did not like the idea. But was persuaded that it would shorten the war against Japan
and American lives. We needed to get Japan to surrender. They didn t want to surrender
unconditionally and refused. Japan didn t surrender until September of 1945, The war could have
gone on longer.
Attacks could have progressively gotten worse as the wartime progressed. Document one showed
us that the bomb was very powerful, yet there was a more powerful artillery in the making. In their
present form these bombs are now in production and even more powerful forms are in
development. It was to spare the Japanese people from utter destruction... If they do not accept our

Pearl Harbor killed just under 3,000 people. The Kamikaze raids also caused a great deal of
deaths. Over 3,500 Japanese Kamikaze raids had already wrought great destruction and loss of
american lives. (Document 4.) Truman believed that this would also save lives. Saving American
lives along with the lives of the Japanese. He was correct. Instead of killing the 1,000,000
predicted, it only ended with a bit over 100,000 lives loss. That is 900,000 people that could have

Why Hinduism Should Be Considered a World Religion
Introduction
Religion in the world today mostly depend on the number of adherents and the rate of at which they
increase in the world. While considering the statistics, studies indicate that Islam is the fastest
growing religion in the world and with a projection that by the year 2050, its popularity shall have
increased more than any other religion in the world. Alongside Islam is the Hinduism, religion
which is also projected to have a faster growth rate and according to research in 2011(Gerald 20), it
had grown in various countries mainly due to migration from India. The growth rate of Hinduism is
projected at two percent annually when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike other religions across the world, Hinduism does not have a specific way of worship, or a
god and scriptures to be used. The religion that is considered to be the oldest has an array of
beliefs and practices within it, and therefore many have always referred to it as a family religion
or a way of life. In the recent years, it has been established that there is a way in conformation to
an almost similarity among the Hindus, and a larger population now consider a sacred text known
as Veda and have a shared system of values known as dharma.
Religion can be characterized by the existence of belief and faith that something is acceptable
and should be practiced without questioning or confirmation. In the Hindu religion, it can be
confirmed that the way many things are characterized and the belief in the consequences of a
person s conduct can be categorically defined as faith. For instance, in Hindu, there is a belief
that the individual soul is not created, but it has been in existence and will continue to exist. Just
like in other religions whereby the actions of a person reaps the consequences in the next phase of
life, Hindus, however, believe that the souls will one day comeback to life in a different form,
which utterly depends on the consequences of its actions before the rebirth. The kind of body that
the soul will inhabit after that is determined by Karma, which is a term used to refer to actions

How Fast Charging Is Becoming The Leading Technology
Fast charging is becoming the leading technology used to reenergize electric vehicles in 30 60
minutes. With the ownership of EVs doubling each year, the need to implement efficient, fast
charging infrastructure is progressively increasing. There are two technical approaches to establish
fast charging 1. via a high power, 3 phase AC connection from an AC charging post at the charging
stationto an on board high power charger in the EV or 2. via a high power DC connection from a
high power DC charger at the charging station directly to the terminals of the battery in the EV. In
this section, we will review AC level 2, DC/AC level 3 charging stations to improve our knowledge
and the design of our project.

making it considerably faster than 230 Vac as well as Level 1 charging which uses 120V AC,
supplying 1.9kWh at max. current of 16 amps, charging the same battery in 12 18 hours. The

The Uses Of Sidewalk Safety By Jane Jacobs
Urbanism was developed in the early 19th century. Within architecture discourse, the characteristic
of urbanism is the interaction of town and city dwellers with the built environment. The concept
was explained as the association of the social, civil and cultural with the environment.
In a book The Uses of Sidewalks: Safety , by Jane Jacobs, she abstract that her basic notions of
what makes a neighbourhood a community and what makes a city livable . She stated that Great
Cities are not like towns, only larger. They are not like suburbs, only denser . In her perspective
of view, the great cities are differ from towns and suburbs in basic ways, they are full of stranger.

This, however, created chaos in other public programs for instance, Medicare and Social
Security. Reagan was fairly laissez faire and delivered on his promise to decrease government
intervention by reducing federal regulations on business and industry, a policy preferably known
as deregulation which had begun under Carter s presidency (Newman and Schmalbach 650).
Nevertheless, Reagan opposed labor unions he once fired thousands of striking air traffics who
were against their contracts and many businesses followed suit by taking strict measures against
striking. As a result, labor union membership and striking drastically decreased as the economy
grew tough during the Recession of 1982, and foreign competition for American jobs made jobs
insecure and negatively affected worker s wages (Newman and Schmalbach). In 1982,
investments and banks failed leading in a recession; the worst recession since the 1930 s during
the Great Depression. Unemployment skyrocketed to 11 percent as compared to the usual
unemployment rate which is normally 8 percent or under. Fortunately enough, a fall in oil prices
prevented the double digit inflation rate similar to that of the late 1970 s by lowering it to 4
percent. The policies of Reaganomics , mainly centered around cutting government spending and
tax cuts, are what improved and

Immigration Political Cartoon Analysis
Political Cartoons: Immigration
The first political cartoon depicts a Native American residing in the state of Arizona. He is
demanding to see legal documentation of the two men walking through his land. The two
individuals are middle class, caucasian american citizens and without documentation they are not
allowed to permanently live in Arizona. This political cartoon points out the hypocritical and ironic
actions of American citizens. It is a satirical drawing of the events that actually took place in early
history. In fact, the first people who settled in North America were the ancestors of modern day
American Indians. These were the first americans, not the typical americans that readily pop into

for illegal aliens. These individuals usually work under really poor and abusive working conditions
that legal citizens would be appalled to undergo. Additionally, businesses will pay these illegal
citizens with extremely low wages. This political cartoon is trying to reveal the irony behind the
situation of immigrants. The law saws one thing, but big businesses say another. The business
owners want to employ the illegal immigrants for cheaper wages and poor working conditions.
Furthermore, the cartoon pokes fun of the ideals within America. The police officer states Stop,
turn around what you are doing is illegal. However, the businesses under the United States

Use Of Stream Of Consciousness Techniques By William Faulkner
Simile. Metaphor. Onomatopoeia. We are taught these terms in elementary school and soon forget
them, but they are some of the most important tools authors can use to make their characters more
captivating and their narrative more convincing. Each writer s style is as unique as a fingerprint;
the particular pattern of loops and whorls, so to speak, depends in part on their use of these literary
modes. The literary fingerprint of William Faulkner, while typically adhering to standard rules of
writing, is recognized by its use of stream of consciousness techniques, a term coined by
psychologist William James in 1890 (Pomerleau). This form of writing attempts to break free of
previous literary conventions in an effort to portray thoughts and... Show more content on

She is akin to the straight man in a sitcom if there were nobody to react to the antics of the other
actors, many jokes would fall flat. Similarly, the mental crises which many characters in Light in
August undergo seem more significant after the reader has been exposed to Lena s stability. Lena
is also the immediate stimulus for several turning points for other characters: Byron Bunch falls in
love with her and puts himself on a quest to gain her trust; Hightower helps her give birth and is
reintroduced to the world; Brown has a moment of self realization when he meets her in the cabin.
She is like an enzyme, not consumed by the reaction she catalyzes. During the course of the book,
she goes directly through the town of Jefferson without being harmed or even affected, a strong
backbone to support the whirlwind of events that seems to follow her.
The writing style used throughout Lena s backstory is relatively uncomplicated, which reinforces
her role and characterization. Her entire backstory in the first chapter is told primarily by the
narrator and includes short, precise sentences such as She was the youngest living child. Her
mother died first. She said, Take care of paw. Lena did so (Faulkner 6). This concise narration
stands out against the rest of the book, which is told largely through stream of consciousness
ramblings or through other characters recounting events. But the plainness of style in Lena s
introduction reflects her role as an straight

Special effects play a huge roll in modern day films; they are mainly used to grab the attention of
the audience. In the making of THE GODFATHER, very few special effects were used. The
director, Francis Ford Coppola was able to capture the audience s attention with a terrific cast, and
a captivating story line. The movie explores many aspects of real life such as family
responsibility, a father s legacy, the need to earn respect and the corrupting influence of power.
These are some of the ingredients combined in Francis Ford Coppola s masterpiece. The movie ran
close to three hours and every scene was better then the last; not boring the viewer throughout the
entire performance.
Throughout the film, Michael Corleone played brilliantly by Al Pacino, experiences a major
change in his way of thinking. Michael changes from believing that what his family does is
wrong, to believing that his family s crimes are a necessary evil. He begins by insisting to his
girlfriend that his family s crimes belong to his family, not to him. He was not involved in the
business and did not want anything to do with it.
By the end of the movie, most of the Corleone family have been murdered. Michael organizes the
execution of several people within the other crime families as the Corleon family s new Don,
having reasoned that these murders are necessary. Feeling that he must follow in his father s
footsteps he transforms from an innocent bystander to the central manipulator.

The Female Employer May Sue For Emotional Distress
The female employer may sue for emotional distress. Prior to suing, she must show that she filed
with the federal or state EEOC. Depending on her state, she may also be required to file with her
local Fair Employment Practices Agency (FEPA). The female employer could file a Workers
Compensation claim. In the Supreme Court of Virginia. Ms Butler filed a workman s comp
claim, Butler v. Southern States Coop. Inc., __ Va. __, 620 S.E.2d 768 (Nov. 4, 2005), stating
among other things, her employer was responsible for the emotional distress when a co worker
grabbed her and tried to kiss her while conducting business duties. However Ms. Butler lost her
case, with the courts stating the workers compensation law does not cover distress, due to sexual
harassment. Workers Compensation is a law that compensates employees when they are injured
while working. A company with three employees are less are usually exempt. The employee
does not have to prove it was the fault of the employer to receive the compensation. In workers
comp claims, the employer is not able to use contributory negligence, assumption of risk, and the
fellow servant rule to their defense. Also, the injury has to be work related. Even if the accusation
of sexual harassment could not be proven, the company would not have been liable for Marwan s
actions. Marwan was of a seniority position, which exempts Studio Five from liability regarding
sexual harassment. Had Marwan been a non supervisory

Iago Is Not Evil
To be evil, villainous or Satan like, is to state that one does hurtful things to other citizens for the
pure enjoyment of themselves. Hitler, Stalin and Napoleon are all leaders, who undoubtedly can
be stated as evil. In William Shakespeare s tragedy Othello, the character Iago is considered evil. It
is argued though that he is not evil, just simply a human. Iagothroughout the play becomes
insecure over his decline in power leading him to become jealous and get revenge on those who
contributed to this feeling of self doubt. Though Iago at times is satisfied with the way he treats
others, his motives are humanistic and the way he deals with his envy for others makes him one of
the manliest men in William Shakespeares Othello.
The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Iago s self doubt and jealousy is a natural result of being human, regardless of the way he decides
to deal with these emotions, he manages them more honestly and manly than anyone throughout
the play. Iago is well aware of the emotions he has and though he does not admit to anyone he is
feeling this way, he knows it personally. It is quite apparent to the audience, that Iago has once
before felt jealous; Oh, beware, my lord, of jealousy!/It is the green eyed monster which doth
mock/The meat it feeds on (III.iii.165 167). Iago s previous jealousy does not show that he is
evil or weak but rather that Iago is the only man throughout Othello to reveal his truly humanistic
emotions. Iago knows about the `green eyed monster of jealous` and does not freat to speak of it
knowing it is human to be jealous and that is exactly what he is. By studying Shakespeare`s
depiction of Iago, it can be concluded that if Iago felt as if being jealous was not human, he would
not warn others of it and rather let them deal with it themselves. The way Iago thinks, provides
proof to the audience that Iago neither is villainous or evil but just a human living in a society
where being powerful is important, thus, bringing

Argumentative Essay About Climate Change
Climate change limits the opportunities that future generations have, especially the most poorest
and most vulnerable. It is our duty to change how people treat/use the earth, educate, and get
involved in our communities that can have a huge impact on improving the lives of the vulnerable
populations affected by climate change.
When people know how to treat and use the earth, it can be a useful solution. Many of us don t
understand that the way we treat the earth now will affect us in the future or other generations.
Some of the things people can do is just the basic needs. Places in the United States people are
blessed with freshwater out of their kitchen sink, but others are suffering daily to even get a sip of
water. It can be easy to just buy a bottle of water at the grocery store, but what do we do when we
are done with it? Just toss it in the trash can? Why not reuse it? There is research done by
researchers that bottled water is not as safe as tap water in many places. When plastic is left in the
sun it can be a dangerous to drink right after it. As much as we try to dispose of plastic it never
goes away. The slightest bit of plastic ends up in the ocean. A solution to not waste water, and not
having to buy bottled water is easier than we think.
The changes start from the smallest gesture of care to the environment. In the article about
water: A conversation with Maude Barlow by Helen Caldicott In Canada we ve now had twenty
seven municipalities, most of them are cities, ban commercial sales of bottled water. This has
been a real campaign. We ve had dozens of school boards across the country ban bottled water,
and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities at their annual meeting passed a motion for a full
ban across the country. They will not buy or sell a single plastic bottle or container on their
premises. And it makes sense. If you are putting all this money into cleaning water and testing it,
regulating it and protecting the source, why would you then compete with that by providing
bottled water sales? pg By just going to the grocery store and buying a reusable water, can be a
solution that can help everyone. As a whole, we need to educate ourselves and understand what is

Experimental Information
Procedure
At the start of the experiment all the following glassware was cleaned with DI water, and soap;
then dried to remove traces of DI water that remained. The glassware used was a 50mL buret, (3)
150 mL volumetric flask, a 25mL glass pipet, and a 250mL volumetric flask. 2.5 grams of solid
unknown was added to the 250mL volumetric flask with the use of a funnel, and DI water was
filled to the mark on the 250mL volumetric flask, making sure to rinse the funnel, so the unknown
residue presented on the funnel can rinse down into the flask. After removing the funnel, we diluted
to the mark with DI water, and swirled the flask, until all of the powder was dissolved. This
experiment involved two different titrations. The first titration we observed was for total alkalinity
(=[HCO 3 +2[CO2 3]) which was measured by titrating the mixture with 0.1 M HCl to a
bromocresol green end point. After 2L of 0.1M HCl were prepared, and divided among all groups.
25.00 mL aliquot of unknown solution was pipetted into a 150mL volumetric flask, using
bromocresol green as the indicator, to observe the color change from a tinted light blue to a tinted
light green, being the

Critical Appreciation Of Dover Beach
Eternal Note of Elegy A sensitive mind can often feel the essence of The Times more deeply
than its peers. Matthew Arnold is an obvious example. When British empire was beguiled by the
prosperity of the surface of Victoria Time, as a poet and scholar, he wrote in his top ranking
poem Dover beach sang desperate elegy for the crisis in the whole western civilization. In nature,
Dover beach is a masterpiece recalling with emotion. It starts with a peaceful picture, and ends
with a feeling of reasoning, using a sense of the word. But it is different from traditional feeling
poetry, but it uses some dramatic treatment techniques, in the way of the poet s monologue. The
dramatic scene in the poem is the night of the moon, in a house on Dover s seashore, where people
sail across the English Channel to French ports. The poem started when the tidewas full, and the sea
was calm, and everything seemed so quiet under the moonlight. Such good night is a perfect time
for the lovers to date. So, the poet could not help but telling his lover, Come to the window, how
sweet the evening breeze is! But then came the waves at low tide from the gravel. It gently and
repeatedly chanted the beat, recalled the poet endless thoughts, turning the scenery into lyrical
poetry, giving the expression with the development of the poet s thoughts. The poet begins by
connecting the changes of the tides to the fate of the people, because the tides, though rising and
falling, are always the symbol of

Discussion Of Honesty In Shakespeare s Othello
People can have anything they so desire, that is, if they are willing to sacrifice something in return.
William Shakespeare s play Othello raises the question as to whether honesty is truly the best
policy, and if lying is truly okay. Throughout the story, the character Iago is portrayed as someone
who is manipulative and dishonest, while under the guise of being an honest person, Honest Iago.
Desdemona, wife to Venetian Moor general, Othello, remains an honest person even while being
accused of being a deceitful liar. The benefits and drawbacks to both lying and speaking the truth
clash with one another resulting in having

Desdemona contrasts Iago s character almost entirely. Often telling the truth and never lying
throughout the entirety of the play except for a single instance. She speaks her mind when
testifying for her marriage with Othello when her father tries to have Othello condemned for
stealing his daughter. The honesty pays off as Desdemona s father has to come to terms with the
outcome and accept what has happened. Like everyone else, she is ignorant to Iago s plot of
getting revenge against Othello and taking Cassio s position of lieutenant for himself. From the
very beginning of the play Desdemona s honest nature is revealed before the audience. An
example of this is when she is brought before the Duke of Venice and her father on the case of her
elopement with Othello. She speaks her mind and reveals her conflict on her loyalties to her father
and her loyalties to Othello. In the end stating that she chooses Othello while believing that she
owes her father for her life and education, she holds nothing back and reveals her

Analysis Of The Movie Breaking Bad
In the crime drama television series, Breaking Bad we follow see the inner struggle of good and
evil within the main character throughout the entire series to the point where we question which
side of his personality we are witnessing. We see Walter White as a mild mannered and respectful
chemistry teacher who also works at a car wash to help provide for his family just like the typical
family man. Walter has a teenage son who has multiple sclerosis, and a wife who is pregnant with
their second child. After learning that he has been diagnosed with Stage IIIA lung cancer, Walter
decides quickly that he has to secure funds to help pay for his treatments, and also take care of
his family after his death. This decision would spark definite change in his lifestyle, relationships,
personality, and appearance. The result of this change would create the person we know so well,
Heisenberg. Heisenberg is the ruthless, power hungry individual that will do anything possible to
make sure that nothing gets in the way of his money, drug business, and security of himself or his
family. In this paper we will discuss how certain events make Walter White progressively become
darker throughout the series of Breaking Bad to the point where he becomes Heisenberg, as well as
comparing him to different characters of TV shows on television today.
There are many events that helped expedite Walter White s transition from the quiet chemistry
teacher to the vengeful crystal meth kingpin, but

difficult to describe a person off of a set of algorithms. However, tests like the MBTI and the
Strong Interest Inventory help pave a pathway to beginning to understand yourself. The results
from both tests amplified a lot of what I already knew about myself and also offered new
insights. Currently I am trying to decide between different career paths and these tests aid in
making the choice. Finally, the values and interests that arise from both tests closely align with
the types of jobs I want to have but also offered new jobs to consider. This class helped me
understand who I am according to the tests, the career path I would like to take, and how my
personality and values align with my future goals.
The Strong Interest Inventory analyzed my interests and gave me the theme of Social. The test
highlighted many interests that are prevalent to me. For example, it states that I enjoy people,
teamwork, helping and community service. I am a theater and community major with an applied
psychology minor. One of the main reasons I chose this major is because it aligns with all those
aspects. Theater involves people, teamwork, and community service while applied psychology

Federal Bureau of Investigation and White Collar Crimes
White Collar Crime White Collar Crime White Collar Crimes are those illegal acts which are
characterized by deceit, concealment, or violation of trust and which are not dependent upon
the application or threat of physical force or violence. Individuals and organizations commit
these acts to obtain money, property, or services; to avoid the payment or loss of money or
services; or to secure personal or business advantage. ~Federal Bureau of Investigation More
citizens around the world in the 21st century have a greater awareness and common knowledge
or white collar crimes than in previous decades or centuries. In the west, Sutherland is known as
the renowned sociologist who first publically announced and defined white collar crime around
the beginning of World War II, though there is evidence of study and evidence of white collar
crime present in the 19th century and before. The subject of white collar crime is one of
moderate to serious contention, as even its consideration as a crime and its categorization within
all of crime is debated fervently in the past and in the present. White collar crime is prevalent in
the 21st century around the world, perhaps more so than in previous years because of the power
and potential of technology to make possible and execute many examples of white collar crimes.
Agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation additionally use technology as a means to
prevent white collar crime as well as pursue white collar criminals. White

Implementing ISO 9001 QMS in an organization begins with the decision to establish the QMS
having appraised the organization. The next step is to get the management involved and committed
to the cause after which an implementation team is setup to manage the process. Most often after
this stage, the management backs off leaving the responsibilities to the implementation team alone
causing challenges in the implementation.
The implementation team then checks the context of the organization against the customer
requirements and defines the organization s quality management standard (QMS) from there. An
awareness campaign is done to inform everyone in the organization about the QMS implementation
and then staff are trained to meet the requirements. Roles are assigned and an operations plan is
then created. At this stage, the process plan is documented and then process is carried on.
An internal audit takes place to check the conformance of the process and products to standards.
The results of the audit are put up for management review and then corrections are made where
needed. External audits also take place and then customer feedback is harvested and put in place for

The Life You Save May Be Your Own Short Story Analysis
What brings you true joy? Is it family and friends, a religion, or some material item? In the short
story, The Life You Save May Be Your Own, Flannery O Connor gives examples of what can
bring Tom Shiftlet joy and what he chooses instead. A tramp, Shiftlet, wanders to the Crater
house in search of a job. Mrs. Crater knows her farm needs a good fixing, so she allows Shiftlet
to sleep in the car and will feed him if he fixes things at the house. Mrs. Crater tries to pawn her
daughter, Lucynell, off on Shiftlet. Mrs Crater offers the car Mr. Shiftlet fixed, a place to live, and
$17.50 just to marry Lucynell. Shiftlet finally agrees and accepts the bribe. On their honeymoon,
Shiftlet leaves Lucynell at a diner and moves forward with his new car. A major theme that O
Connor repeated throughout her short storywas how many things can block your vision of what
truly matters in life. O Connor reflects in all of her writings that God, and his gifts, are the things
that can bring everlasting joy. She knows that there are always roadblocks in the way, though.
Throughout the short story, The Life You Save May Be Your Own, Flannery O Connor uses
literary elements of symbolism, characterization, and naturalism to develop her theme of finding
what truly matters in life. Symbols within a story can help to represent greater meaning out of
one piece of work. Flannery develops symbolism through the car and through Shiftlet. Shiftlet is
compared to Christ the savior many times, but then later reveals himself to be more of an anti
Christ. O Connor describes Shiftlet as a wanderer who, swung both his whole and his short arm
slowly so that they indicated an expanse of sky and his figure formed a crooked cross (O Connor
675). This is the first time that Flannery compares Shiftlet to JesusChrist by forming a cross. The
cross is very symbolic towards Jesus because that is how God shows his love to all mankind.
Shiftlet only has one arm, though, which shows that if he were to be compared to Jesus, he
would be a flawed Christ. Not only does the crooked cross symbolize a flawed Christ, but also
foreshadows that Shiftlet may tend to show a flaw or even deny God s compassion. The car that
Shiftlet voluntarily fixes is also a

the formation of the agreement, warranties, warranty damages, consequential damages, search

agreement between the parties Article 2 of the Uniform Commercial Code, the Common law, or
the CISG? When the subject matter of a transaction is for the sale of goods, Article 2 of the
UCC is used to analyze the deal between the parties. Article 2 of the UCC governs the formation,

Common law governs formation, performance, and damages. When the transaction is for non
consumer goods and between parties from different nations, the Contracts for the International Sale

The Dark Side of Judge Pyncheon in Nathaniel Hawthorne s Novel, The House of the Seven Gables
People in society live in a masquerade. Everyone wears a decoratively adorned mask that displays
beauty, purity, and service. However, behind the mask lies on the inside of all society. One will
stop at nothing in order to be well liked, thus becoming hypocrites. In Nathaniel Hawthorne s novel,
The House of the Seven Gables, the narrator uses intense diction, a vivid selection of detail, and a
shocking tone to reveal that the character of Judge Pyncheon resembles perfection on the outside,

Pyncheon is always aware of his form as well as his appearance towards others like broad
benevolence, and a scrupulous attention to the rich and poor. The narrator suddenly transitions
from Judge Pyncheon s admirably arranged life to his early and reckless youth. Nathaniel
Hawthorne ultimately describes Pyncheon s looking glass image, his party mask. This hard, cold
man can only be brought down by the public loss of interest in him. The intensity of the narrator s
diction makes the Judge s contrasting inner and outer characters obvious and blatant.
A vivid selection of detail provides perfect evidence to Judge Pyncheon s unsightly hypocrisy.
Hawthorne pays close attention to Pyncheon s work life, social world, and conspicuous
appearances. At the same time, he elaborates on his wonderful involvement, his pursuing work
ethic, and his superb manner and attire towards others. However, it is not the superficial attributes
that Hawthorne pays attention to... it is the subliminal side of the Judge that he disregards. What
does Judge Pyncheon do in his leisure time when the public eye is not trampling in his world?
The Judge s splendid rubbish is only a mere reflection he wants society to witness. Because of the
narrator s selection of detail, Judge Pyncheon s secret existence soars to the surface.
A shocking and disappointing tone exposes Judge Pyncheon s active and subtle conscience.

The Things They Carried by Tim OВґBrien
Tim O Brien wants the reader to feel what he felt going through this nightmare. The device he
uses is imagery and this is important because the reader can feel like they are a part of the war.
He gives an account of the nightmare : His entrenching tool like an ax, slashing. I can imagine
an angry lumber jack cutting deep into tree, which in his case represented his emotional feelings
for the love he had for Martha. Martha was a young, beautiful girl with whom he was so in love,
but Martha only saw Lieutenant Cross as a good friend. When you are trying to understand the
emotions of a person is difficult because you are never in their shoes. O Brien writes, He sat at
the bottom of his fox hole and wept. I imagine a baby crawling back into the womb inside his
mother stomach and he weeping like a baby. This image seems as if he was hiding from
something for which he was not ready / that he feared or appeared unprepared. The novelitself is a
flashback to the pass of a nightmare that he will never forget. O Brien is still alive, I cannot
imagine having flash backs to the past and being reminded of a frightening nightmare. The best
flashback in the novel reads his right arm was gone... At his face there were already many flies
and gnats. O Brien then revisits his childhood: Linda was nine then, as I was, but we were in

The War On The Front Lines
The refusal to obey orders, or a violent attempt to take control from people of authority. 1 The
Great War was a rugged time for many throughout its duration from July 28, 1914 to November
11, 1918. The speculations and thoughts of the general public and the soldiers in battle behind
the ongoing war changed drastically over the four years. The moral and willpower of the soldiers
declined heavily, and this had a large impact on how the war was fought. Many soldiers captured
their accounts of these changes in journals as diaries and there is one French soldiers diary that
accurately depicts mutiny on the front lines. There is a clear correlation between the changes in
the amount of recruits and supplies available, the manner in which the war was fought, and the
general feelings behind the war as time went on, which caused some soldiers to choose mutiny. At
the beginning of the war, the duties behind what the soldiers had to do were largely appreciated
and they were held above others as heroes. People of warring countries were rushing to battleand
their loved ones were supporting them all of the way. Battalions were even formed from work
groups, as they already withheld an established chain of command, the members had a close knit
bond, and there was a charismatic feeling about representing the country they worked in. The
glorified fighting and risking of one s life was soon changed.
The way the war was fought also fiercely changed. The battle techniques early on in 1914

Against Same-Sex-Marriage
Against Same Sex Marriage Marriage is the formal relationship between a man and a woman,
usually recognized by the law, by which they become husband and wife. In terms of legal
recognition and acknowledgement, the majority of states, authorities, and jurisdiction limit
marriage to opposite sex couples or two persons of opposite gender. Same sex marriagewould
weaken the definition and respect for the institution of marriage. When discussing same sex
marriage, the true meaning and definition of marriage is the topic that often comes up, which is
why it is very significant to remember the true importance of marriage. I strongly believe that
same sex marriage should not be legalized because it would harm many individuals. If same sex
marriage is legalized, the birth rates would decrease, fewer children would be raised by an
opposite married parents, and medical insurance costs/charges would rise. Legalizing same sex
marriage would cause the birth rates to decrease. One of the most basic tasks or responsibilities
of any human society is to reproduce. Marriage, which is the privilege of male female sexual
relationship, is given to every human society because it is the only type of relationship that has the
capability of natural procreation. Offering the benefits and status of marriage to those who are not
capable of natural procreation would dramatically and negatively change the society. The long term
consequences would be that fewer opposite sex relationships would be

Social Differences Between The North And South In The 1800 s
The United States was, at one point, not united like it is today. People had different views and
lifestyles in the 1800 s. A person s beliefs differed whether that person lived in the north or south.
The north and south developed a few social, economical, and political similarities and differences.
To begin, the northand south had some opposing social cultures. There were some differences in
transportation. Since the north was more industrialized and contained many factories, there were
more cities. These big cities called for a greater need of transportation. Most people migrated to the
north, because the growing amount of factories provided more job opportunities; this resulted in a
higher population than the south. Eventually, cities in the north became overpopulated, which led
to unhealthy living conditions and tenements. The south had less railroads and wagon trails, which
resulted in transportation being more difficult. The south was a bit less educated than the north,
because they focused primarily on agriculture while the north consisted of more factories.
Therefore, there were opposing social practices.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Rwandan Genocide And The Genocide
Always Regret that Rwanda thing The Rwandan Genocide, triggered by the murder of Rwandan
President Habyarimana on April 9, 1994, was the fastest, if not most barbarous bloodbath in human
history, and was carried out with little to no intervention or aid force from any of the many capable
Western governments, such as the United States. Though these administration s may claim that
they were unable to intervene due to lack of warning signs and insufficient information; those
statements are false. The United States government refused to intervene in the Rwandan genocide
due to its economic disinterest, political indifference, and pure African prejudice, completely
ignoring the obvious signs of the genocide. Rwandais a small African country of 10,169 square
miles with a population of approximately 8,380,000 (before the genocide). As an agricultural nation,
Rwanda was economically dependent on the harvesting of crops such as rice, coffee, and maize.
Though the nation may have been dependent on these agricultural exports to the United States (and
other Western powers), the US unfortunately was not entirely dependent on Rwanda as these
products were also traditionally received from Brazil, Columbia, and other larger African countries.
Prior to the control of other western powers, the country was at peace; however, all this changed

The Impact Of Tourism On Orlando, Florida
Introduction
Florida is tourism. Every modern image of the state evokes travel for pleasure. To most outsiders,
Florida is one big theme park, not a state but a magic kingdom of dreams and fantasies, where real
life, with its mundane cares, is effectively banished (Revels, 2011). Orlando, Florida can be
appreciated as a destination where this image was created, where exhilarating attractions, distinct
restaurants and hotels, and superior shopping have become a tourist s dream vacation. Orlando has

Attractions can be labeled into different categories based on certain characteristics they offer. These

We Should Invest Our Tax Dollars Essay
INTRODUCTION
I grew up in South Akron, and graduated from Garfield High school. This high school has meant a
lot to the community and the students that attended it. This is not just a building, but an institution
that has turned out a lot of great minds and professional athletes. Losing the high school in this
district would be devastating. I feel that we should invest our tax dollars in our own city, and worry
about the future of our own child, by keeping Akron schools in the community of Akron.
Purpose
Garfield high along with Kenmore High school have been slotted to be torn down. There are no
dates as of yet to when the projects will start. The removal of these two public two public high
schools would leave the entire southern portion of Akron and nearby Kenmore without a high
school in or near these districts.
Problem
Building the learning site in Kenmore would cause major busing problems. The city already
owns the property of Garfield High school, so why go out and spend money for property, when
you have a property already available? Some people may disagree and say Kenmore is an

Personal Statement Of Purpose
Goodness is about character integrity, honesty, kindness, generosity, moral courage, and the
like. More than anything else, it is about how we treat other people. Dennis Prager Every
morning I wake up each and every morning wanting to have a deeper revelation of my purpose
in life, not only in the natural, but in the spiritual as well. My calling in my career is very
important to me because I am gifted in certain areas of my life. I am striving to be positive and
look at situations with a positive attitude and to not sulk in it. This is having higher thinking and
higher ways. Every time I discover something about myself, it brings me a form of joy to help
me move forward and rise. Within the field of Kinesiology, I think of how this health science
field can be expanded with deeper knowledge and research. I love the hands on work experience
that this field has to offer, even in the sports division. I desire to be in a demanding field to

Death Of A Salesman Play Analysis
On February 10, 1949, Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman premiered for the first time at the
Morosco Theatre in New York, NY. Initial reviews were positive, and the play was described as a
notable piece of stagecraft . Ever since, there have been thousands of productions of Miller s
famous play, including a recent production at the Ethel Barrymore Theatrein 2012. However, this
production did not garner the same successes as its predecessors, despite the production was
intended to become a revival of the play, with a fresh interpretation. In his article, Erik Haagensen
analyzes Mike Nichols2012 production of Death of a Salesman, particularly how it fails to revive
the play due to poor casting.

Haagensen compliments Wittrock s ability to find the balance between Happy s flirtatious,
superficial side and his zealous, family oriented side. Haagensen laments that Wittrock would
have been a much better Biff than Garfield. Portraying Linda Loman is none other than Linda
Emond, who challenges how audiences have previously perceived Linda Loman. Rather than the
submissive wife, Emond portrays Linda as a fiery mother who goes toe to toe with her husband
and children. Haagensen suggests that while she gives a strong performance, certain choices in
delivery make some moments fall flat. Another character Haagensen makes note of is Willy s
dead brother Ben, played by John Glover. The character, which is presented as a figment of Willy s
mind, is portrayed by Glover with ...a heightened energy that transcends naturalism (Haagensen 18).
Haagensen claims the production has both positive casting choices, but also very negative ones.
However, to him, the negatives far outweigh the positives. In Haagensen s review, the casting
choices made by Nichols singlehandedly stifle the potential of his

Gender Subjectivity, By Judith Butler
Gender subjectivity is another important aspect of the debate around gender because it focuses on
a move away from the idea of innate sexual identity characteristics that divide human beings into
male and female (Encyclopedia of Critical Psychology, 2014). This type of view challenges the
essentialism of sexual difference into something more then a binary between male vs. female,
heterosexual vs. homosexual, etc., as it recognizes that these dichotomies are problematic because
the term of genderencompasses a whole range of identities across a spectrum. In particular ideas
like what does it mean to be equal? (Butler) and seeing division of gender into binary conceptions
of identity can be seen as a process of othering (de Beauvoir) are some of the areas that this topic
examines.
Undoing Gender by Judith Butler This book features a collection of Judith Butler s essays and her
primary intention with this collection is to focus on the question of what it might mean to undo
restrictive normative conceptions of sexual and gendered life (12). These essays look at the
construction of gender and the way certain conceptions of it are normalized and reproduced in
potentially harmful and limiting ways. Butler uses a feminist poststructural framework to critique
the normalizing/marginalizing views of gender that exist because the terms that make up one s own
gender are, from the start, out side oneself, beyond oneself in a sociality that has no single author

The Pioneer Private Chinese Automaker Geely Automobile...
Introduction:
The pioneer private Chinese automaker Geely Automobile Holdings successfully took control
Swedish Volvo from Ford Motor Company in year 2010 triggered a lot of media attention

billion includes 9 product series, 3 new platforms, more than 2400 global network, talent and brand,
as well as important supplier systems.
Geely entered into auto manufacturing business in 1997, and is today a fully integrated

Additionally, through acquisition, enterprise can be benefited with reduced industry rivalry and
increased market power to bargain down the input price over suppliers and raise up the selling price
to buyers. In contrast, there are challenges associated with acquisition. The biggest challenge in the
international acquisition is how to deal with inter culture difference. Overestimating the economic
benefits also contributes to the failure to increase profitability.
By taking over Volvo, Geely can own a lot of advanced exclusive technologies, and patents,
which is top in the field of automotive safety, energy conversation and environment protection
and also can improve its image and competitive force over its rivals to achieve larger customer
base and superior profitability, and that Geely will help Volvo reduce production costs and expand
in the China market. But Geely are also worried, because they are not sure if they can manage
Volvo Carssuccessfully. Geely and Volvo are two companies incorporating two different cultures

A Better Understanding Of Diabetes And How Kids Are...
During the week that we spend at camp I hope that I will have a better understanding of Diabetes
and how kids are dealing and coping with it. Sometimes we forget that when an illness happens
in adults it is totally different on how it affects children so sometimes kids get ignored more often.
So I hope this week will give me a better insight into what it is like for a child with diabetes day to
day. My fear going into this week is that I won t be able to tell when a kid is having a low blood
sugaror a high one. I know what signs to look out for but I don t have a lot of experience with this
in kids. Kids are different on they present than adults so the fear is not recognizing it fast enough
to get help for the child. What I think that I will contribute to the camp team is that I will be able
to help with recognizing signs more quickly of hypo and hyperglycemiaeven though I still need
some work. I think this will be beneficial because there may be members of the team that are less
experienced so having someone that has at least seen this once will help. The previous
experience that I have had with medically fragile children is going to CCK for a weekend during
diabetes weekend and seeing a glimpse of children with this disease. I got to interact with the kids
and play with them as if they had nothing wrong with them. The kids that were there were
amazing to see on how they were coping with the disease versus their parents. Also what else was
neat to see is how

They are the miniature dinosaurs of our current era. Some of them may be so scary that we have

many of the late predecessors that had once ruled the planet. Yes, lizards are the animal that are
being mentioned and talked about. Lizardsare a well adapted, variety of species that still contain
anatomy from the Mesozoic Era and still are an important part of the ecosystem. The two most

The heart of these reptiles has changed very little, if not at all. Their hearts have three chambers,
unlike mammals who have four chambered hearts (Dowling). With it, reptiles have advantages
and disadvantages. In the winter a lizard will restrict blood flow through their lungs in order to
save energy as they hibernate (Dowling). Having only a three chambered heart puts a large
restraint on the amount of heat that is produced inside the body. Similar to those of the past
reptiles, lizards will tend to colonize in open areas where there is a large amount of direct sunlight.
Direct sunlight will greatly warm a reptile s body so that they can perform their basic metabolic
functions with more ease. The blood pressure of a lizard is also very low due to their hearts; as a
result, lizards have grown to not need a continuous food supply but still eat in bulk like their
predecessor(Dowling). In many cases, lizards that have a diet of an herbivore located in dessert
biomes have been found to eat cactus fruit and low growing flowers. With the integration of plants
into their diet, lizards easily control small plant populations throughout many desserts of the

Relations Between Iran And The Middle East
Oil. This one word can explain the relationship between the western world especially the United
States and the Middle East. It can be used to trace the reasoning behind many interactions between
these two spheres of the world. It is also the basis of one of the most controversial foreign policy
operations of the United States, Operation Ajax. Although Operation Ajax happened sixty years
ago, its consequences had immediate and lasting effects on both Iranand American Iranian
relations. I will argue that the coup led to the 1979 Islamic revolution and consequently put into
motion the strained relations between Iran and the United States; it also had significant effects on
both the United States and Iran s political history. I will cement my argument by giving a detailed
account of Operation Ajax and the players involved in it as well as giving descriptive examples of
why it happened as well as how it continues to have a lasting effect.
The United States has no credibility as a bearer of democracy to Iran because of its role in
crushing democracy there half a century ago (Kinzer xvii). This was said by Akbar Ganji an
Iranian dissident who precisely struck a significant point of American Iranian relations. That one
sentence explains exactly what happened during Operation Ajax Iran s first democracy was
destroyed in an attempt to protect self interested parties of the western world. Operation Ajax was a
coup organized and carried out by the United States Central Intelligence

Media Negatively Affects The Self Esteem And Body Image Of...
The media negatively affects the self esteem and body image of young girls. The media is known
for broadcasting thin models and not taking into consideration the affect that it could have on
millions of young women. When young girls see thin models that they aspire to be on TV
increases their concerns about their bodies and that causes young girls to develop eating disorders,
such as excessive dieting, bulimia and anorexia. It is very vital for every young girlto feel
comfortable in her own skin and not be influenced by what the media portrays. These young women
should not let the media, such as advertisements, cartoons, magazines, movies, and TV shows
define their definition of beauty based on what society says. The media negatively affects young
girl s self esteembecause when they are young they tend to be more gullible to advertisements
shown on TV. They notice the petite, perfect, models and instantly want to become skinnier.
Girls believe the lies on TV s and resort to unhealthy measures to try to shape or fit themselves
into the impossible perfect mold. The goal of being healthy and skinny is no longer a priority,
instead, the main priority is to become the media s self image. The media puts so much pressure
on young girls to look like the perfect image and it has a harmful effect on the self esteem and
body imageof young girls. I think that the media suggests that appearance is more important than
personality. This statement is prime example of how the media

Given the changes in atmosphere and various weather and atmospheric events on various stages,
we will be looking at including various map wide effects that slow or stop towers due to events
on the stages. The major events we are currently thinking about are blizzards, lightning storms,
and volcanic activity. Blizzards, on stage 1, can cause a slowing or complete stop of towers and
enemies found on the stage as mobility can be locked down or limited to prevent damage to
central machinery. Lightning storms, on stage 2 and 4, can cause short term damage to what is
hit, and possibly power fluctuations in mechanical foes and towers causing a stall in the unit
/tower s work. Volcanic activity, on stage 4, can be distant and result in the falling of hot flakes of
debris and ash. It could also be a lockdown or clearing of parts of the level dependent on how we
feel we need to balance the game at those points. Another possible effect would be, on stage 5,
meteor showers and other objects falling onto the surface causing damage or alterations to the map
itself.

example of monstrous femininity seen in this video is at the very beginning. At the still frame of

Women in today s society, have been taught to bow down to the man, to be cooperative to the

However, BeyoncГ© will not conform to society s belief of how she should handle this situation
and proceeds to kick him out. This shows one of BeyoncГ© monstrosity s: independence. The
second example of monstrous femininity seen in this video is at the still frame of 1:09,
BeyoncГ© is seen fully covered in all black (beyonceVEVO). This is a very important fact
because many times men will use a woman s sexuality to discredit her from the issue at hand.
However, BeyoncГ© is showing no skin, no sexual attraction, and keeping the focus on her power.
She is redirecting the male gaze from her body and putting the attention on the fact that she has
enough power eo kick a strong and powerful male out of her house. This shows BeyoncГ© second
monstrosity: authority. The third example of BeyoncГ© monstrous femininity can be seen at 1:51

Essay on In The
In The In The Knight, the knight is an epitome of human society, yet his appearance doe not
portray his true self. Do you agree? In Adrienne Rich s poem The Knight, the reader is given a
brief yet profound insight into the deceiving nature of humans; how we give a calm, collected
front full of light and purity, yet beneath the surface we are in truth dark and inevitably mortal.
The Knight portrays what every man, woman and child must inevitably decide on: to expose their
true face or to hide behind a false mask to please others. The initial line A knight rides into the
noon evokes a sense that the knight, a chivalrous and pure being, is riding gallantly into the noon,

The knight s only animate part of himself is his eye ; the rest is iron or steed. His body is a lump
of bitter jelly set in a metal mask , in other words a slob in an iron panoply set upon a mount. His
shining appearance gives the illusion that the knight is a shining example of medieval society; a
pinnacle to aspire to, fit, mighty and strong. The reality is completely opposite; inside he is a
quivering pile of fat, robed with rags and tatters which clothe him beneath the metal suit. The
knight is no different from any other man, the battle wears his nerves to ribbons despite his
radiant appearance. He is nervous about the outcome of the battle, whether he will live to charge
gloriously into battle once again. Despite his steely skin, the knight is little different from the
lower classes of society, poor, almost naked and mortal. The knight cannot avoid the one fate that
envelops all mankind with his pure appearance, his fraudulent true self cannot be covered
fancifully with wooing society. Rich portrays a sense that although we all can all wear masks to
cover our true natures; we cannot hide forever behind this false front. If an enemy unhorse[s] this
rider and frees him between the walls of iron , what will become of the knight? His pure,
chivalrous, fake mask might be shattered and his true stout nature will be revealed to all, his

  • 2. The Growing Importance Of Ethical Business Managers The Growing Importance of Ethical Business Managers Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw (2010) describe that the need for ethical business managers and practices has never been greater. Recent financial scandals have exposed issues in the management decision making process, suggesting a need to develop the necessary analytical and empathetic qualities so future corporate leaders may be moral managers (Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw, 2010). This recent pattern of business misconduct (Michaelson, 2015) and single minded pursuit of profit has made the promotion of ethical values a key concern for modern business organizations (Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw, 2010). This paper will discuss how literary fiction (i.e. novels, literature, narrative, fiction, drama, comics) can help organizations develop ethical managers by discussing (1) the growing importance of ethical business managers (2) the benefits of a novel approach to business ethics, and (3) the moral value of literary fiction to business. During the past few years, many companies have seen their reputations plummet in the wake of various corporate scandals (Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw, 2010). With this context of an amoral and inept set of global management practices, Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw (2010) propose the need for a new breed of manager, namely the moral manager. While Eastwood describes that leadership is an essentially moral act, he elaborates that there is a disconnection between this notion and the behavior of some business ... I do believe that dropping the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was necessary. Here are the reasons why: Japan s surrender could have ended the war faster, the attacks could have gotten worse as time in the war gained. Japan had already caused great damage to the United States. Another key thing to remember is the war could have ended sooner. In document two, we learned that President Truman didn t want to drop the atomic bombs, but it would hopefully lead the war to an end. He did not like the idea. But was persuaded that it would shorten the war against Japan and American lives. We needed to get Japan to surrender. They didn t want to surrender unconditionally and refused. Japan didn t surrender until September of 1945, The war could have gone on longer. Attacks could have progressively gotten worse as the wartime progressed. Document one showed us that the bomb was very powerful, yet there was a more powerful artillery in the making. Instead of killing the 1,000,000 predicted, it only ended with a bit over 100,000 lives loss. That is 900,000 people that could have died that didn t. It is our duty to change how people treat/use the earth, educate, and get involved in our communities that can have a huge impact on improving the lives of the vulnerable populations affected by climate change. When people know how to treat and use the earth, it can be a useful solution. Many of us don t understand that the way we treat the earth now will affect us in the future or other generations. Some of the things people can do is just the basic needs. Places in the United States people are blessed with freshwater out of their kitchen sink, but others are suffering daily to even get a sip of water. It can be easy to just buy a bottle of water at the grocery store, but what do we do when we are done with it? Just toss it in the trash can? Why not reuse it? There is research done by researchers that bottled water is not as safe as tap water in many places. When plastic is left in the sun it can be a dangerous to drink right after it. As much as we try to dispose of plastic it never goes away. The slightest bit of plastic ends up in the ocean. A solution to not waste water, and not having to buy bottled water is easier than we think. The changes start from the smallest gesture of care to the environment. In the article about water: A conversation with Maude Barlow by Helen Caldicott In Canada we ve now had twenty seven municipalities, most of them are cities, ban commercial sales of bottled water. This has been a real campaign. We ve had dozens of school boards across the country ban bottled water, and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities at their annual meeting passed a motion for a full ban across the country. They will not buy or sell a single plastic bottle or container on their premises. And it makes sense. If you are putting all this money into cleaning water and testing it, regulating it and protecting the source, why would you then compete with that by providing bottled water sales? pg By just going to the grocery store and buying a reusable water, can be a solution that can help everyone. • 28. The Life You Save May Be Your Own Short Story Analysis What brings you true joy? Is it family and friends, a religion, or some material item? In the short story, The Life You Save May Be Your Own, Flannery O Connor gives examples of what can bring Tom Shiftlet joy and what he chooses instead. A tramp, Shiftlet, wanders to the Crater house in search of a job. Mrs. Crater knows her farm needs a good fixing, so she allows Shiftlet to sleep in the car and will feed him if he fixes things at the house. Mrs. Crater tries to pawn her daughter, Lucynell, off on Shiftlet. Mrs Crater offers the car Mr. Shiftlet fixed, a place to live, and $17.50 just to marry Lucynell. Shiftlet finally agrees and accepts the bribe. On their honeymoon, Shiftlet leaves Lucynell at a diner and moves forward with his new car. A major theme that O Connor repeated throughout her short storywas how many things can block your vision of what truly matters in life. O Connor reflects in all of her writings that God, and his gifts, are the things that can bring everlasting joy. She knows that there are always roadblocks in the way, though. Throughout the short story, The Life You Save May Be Your Own, Flannery O Connor uses literary elements of symbolism, characterization, and naturalism to develop her theme of finding what truly matters in life. Symbols within a story can help to represent greater meaning out of one piece of work. Flannery develops symbolism through the car and through Shiftlet. Shiftlet is compared to Christ the savior many times, but then later reveals himself to be more of an anti Christ. O Connor describes Shiftlet as a wanderer who, swung both his whole and his short arm slowly so that they indicated an expanse of sky and his figure formed a crooked cross (O Connor 675). This is the first time that Flannery compares Shiftlet to JesusChrist by forming a cross. The cross is very symbolic towards Jesus because that is how God shows his love to all mankind. Shiftlet only has one arm, though, which shows that if he were to be compared to Jesus, he would be a flawed Christ. Not only does the crooked cross symbolize a flawed Christ, but also foreshadows that Shiftlet may tend to show a flaw or even deny God s compassion. • 30. Which Jurisdiction Should Govern The Agreement Between The... The issues are what jurisdiction shall be used to govern the deal between the parties, issues with the formation of the agreement, warranties, warranty damages, consequential damages, search costs, lost profits, recession. The first issue is determining which jurisdiction should govern the agreement between the parties Article 2 of the Uniform Commercial Code, the Common law, or the CISG? When the subject matter of a transaction is for the sale of goods, Article 2 of the UCC is used to analyze the deal between the parties. Article 2 of the UCC governs the formation, performance, and damages. When the subject matter of the transaction is not for the sale of goods or is to provide a service, the common law is used to analyze the deal between the parties. The Common law governs formation, performance, and damages. When the transaction is for non consumer goods and between parties from different nations, the Contracts for the International Sale of Goods is used to govern the transaction. The CISG governs formation, performance, and damages. In this case, the party s agreement would be considered a hybrid contact as the agreement includes a goods component, as well as a service component. Through the use of oxymora, imagery, and allusion, Owen is able demonstrate core shaking loss. Using final words of the poem, Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori, Owen makes an allusion to Roman poet Horace s Odes. The Dark Side of Judge Pyncheon in Nathaniel Hawthorne s Novel, The House of the Seven Gables People in society live in a masquerade. Everyone wears a decoratively adorned mask that displays beauty, purity, and service. However, behind the mask lies on the inside of all society. One will stop at nothing in order to be well liked, thus becoming hypocrites. In Nathaniel Hawthorne s novel, The House of the Seven Gables, the narrator uses intense diction, a vivid selection of detail, and a shocking tone to reveal that the character of Judge Pyncheon resembles perfection on the outside, yet darker traits sit latent on the inside. The intensity of the narrator s diction makes the Judge s contrasting inner and outer characters obvious and blatant. A vivid selection of detail provides perfect evidence to Judge Pyncheon s unsightly hypocrisy. Hawthorne pays close attention to Pyncheon s work life, social world, and conspicuous appearances. • 34. The Things They Carried by Tim OВґBrien Tim O Brien wants the reader to feel what he felt going through this nightmare. The device he uses is imagery and this is important because the reader can feel like they are a part of the war. He gives an account of the nightmare : His entrenching tool like an ax, slashing. I can imagine an angry lumber jack cutting deep into tree, which in his case represented his emotional feelings for the love he had for Martha. Martha was a young, beautiful girl with whom he was so in love, but Martha only saw Lieutenant Cross as a good friend. When you are trying to understand the emotions of a person is difficult because you are never in their shoes. O Brien writes, He sat at the bottom of his fox hole and wept. I imagine a baby crawling back into the womb inside his mother stomach and he weeping like a baby. This image seems as if he was hiding from something for which he was not ready / that he feared or appeared unprepared. The novelitself is a flashback to the pass of a nightmare that he will never forget. O Brien is still alive, I cannot imagine having flash backs to the past and being reminded of a frightening nightmare. The best flashback in the novel reads his right arm was gone... • 35. The War On The Front Lines The refusal to obey orders, or a violent attempt to take control from people of authority. 1 The Great War was a rugged time for many throughout its duration from July 28, 1914 to November 11, 1918. The speculations and thoughts of the general public and the soldiers in battle behind the ongoing war changed drastically over the four years. The moral and willpower of the soldiers declined heavily, and this had a large impact on how the war was fought. Many soldiers captured their accounts of these changes in journals as diaries and there is one French soldiers diary that accurately depicts mutiny on the front lines. There is a clear correlation between the changes in the amount of recruits and supplies available, the manner in which the war was fought, and the general feelings behind the war as time went on, which caused some soldiers to choose mutiny. At the beginning of the war, the duties behind what the soldiers had to do were largely appreciated and they were held above others as heroes. People of warring countries were rushing to battleand their loved ones were supporting them all of the way. Battalions were even formed from work groups, as they already withheld an established chain of command, the members had a close knit bond, and there was a charismatic feeling about representing the country they worked in. In terms of legal recognition and acknowledgement, the majority of states, authorities, and jurisdiction limit marriage to opposite sex couples or two persons of opposite gender. Same sex marriagewould weaken the definition and respect for the institution of marriage. When discussing same sex marriage, the true meaning and definition of marriage is the topic that often comes up, which is why it is very significant to remember the true importance of marriage. I strongly believe that same sex marriage should not be legalized because it would harm many individuals. If same sex marriage is legalized, the birth rates would decrease, fewer children would be raised by an opposite married parents, and medical insurance costs/charges would rise. Legalizing same sex marriage would cause the birth rates to decrease. One of the most basic tasks or responsibilities of any human society is to reproduce. A person s beliefs differed whether that person lived in the north or south. The north and south developed a few social, economical, and political similarities and differences. To begin, the northand south had some opposing social cultures. There were some differences in transportation. Since the north was more industrialized and contained many factories, there were more cities. These big cities called for a greater need of transportation. Most people migrated to the north, because the growing amount of factories provided more job opportunities; this resulted in a higher population than the south. Eventually, cities in the north became overpopulated, which led to unhealthy living conditions and tenements. The south had less railroads and wagon trails, which resulted in transportation being more difficult. Though these administration s may claim that they were unable to intervene due to lack of warning signs and insufficient information; those statements are false. As an agricultural nation, Rwanda was economically dependent on the harvesting of crops such as rice, coffee, and maize. • 44. Gender Subjectivity, By Judith Butler Gender subjectivity is another important aspect of the debate around gender because it focuses on a move away from the idea of innate sexual identity characteristics that divide human beings into male and female (Encyclopedia of Critical Psychology, 2014). This type of view challenges the essentialism of sexual difference into something more then a binary between male vs. female, heterosexual vs. homosexual, etc., as it recognizes that these dichotomies are problematic because the term of genderencompasses a whole range of identities across a spectrum. In particular ideas like what does it mean to be equal? (Butler) and seeing division of gender into binary conceptions of identity can be seen as a process of othering (de Beauvoir) are some of the areas that this topic examines. Undoing Gender by Judith Butler This book features a collection of Judith Butler s essays and her primary intention with this collection is to focus on the question of what it might mean to undo restrictive normative conceptions of sexual and gendered life (12). These essays look at the construction of gender and the way certain conceptions of it are normalized and reproduced in potentially harmful and limiting ways. It is very vital for every young girlto feel comfortable in her own skin and not be influenced by what the media portrays. These young women should not let the media, such as advertisements, cartoons, magazines, movies, and TV shows define their definition of beauty based on what society says. The media negatively affects young girl s self esteembecause when they are young they tend to be more gullible to advertisements shown on TV. They notice the petite, perfect, models and instantly want to become skinnier. Girls believe the lies on TV s and resort to unhealthy measures to try to shape or fit themselves into the impossible perfect mold. The goal of being healthy and skinny is no longer a priority, instead, the main priority is to become the media s self image. The media puts so much pressure on young girls to look like the perfect image and it has a harmful effect on the self esteem and body imageof young girls. I think that the media suggests that appearance is more important than personality. This statement is prime example of how the media ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Given the changes in atmosphere and various weather and atmospheric events on various stages, we will be looking at including various map wide effects that slow or stop towers due to events on the stages. The major events we are currently thinking about are blizzards, lightning storms, and volcanic activity. Blizzards, on stage 1, can cause a slowing or complete stop of towers and enemies found on the stage as mobility can be locked down or limited to prevent damage to central machinery. Lightning storms, on stage 2 and 4, can cause short term damage to what is hit, and possibly power fluctuations in mechanical foes and towers causing a stall in the unit /tower s work. Volcanic activity, on stage 4, can be distant and result in the falling of hot flakes of debris and ash. It could also be a lockdown or clearing of parts of the level dependent on how we feel we need to balance the game at those points. Another possible effect would be, on stage 5, meteor showers and other objects falling onto the surface causing damage or alterations to the map itself. 7. Final Game Mechanics (Note: Subject to change during actual development to account for things like balancing and fun factor) (Author: Scott Lump with entire group s input) The mechanics driving our game are fairly simplistic. The player will play as an alien race that is trying to expand into a newly discovered solar system. However, they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Women in today s society, have been taught to bow down to the man, to be cooperative to the man s needs, and to understand that it is in a man s nature to cheat (Evolutionary Physch). However, BeyoncГ© will not conform to society s belief of how she should handle this situation and proceeds to kick him out. This shows one of BeyoncГ© monstrosity s: independence. The second example of monstrous femininity seen in this video is at the still frame of 1:09, BeyoncГ© is seen fully covered in all black (beyonceVEVO). This is a very important fact because many times men will use a woman s sexuality to discredit her from the issue at hand. She is redirecting the male gaze from her body and putting the attention on the fact that she has enough power eo kick a strong and powerful male out of her house. • 58. Essay on In The In The In The Knight, the knight is an epitome of human society, yet his appearance doe not portray his true self. Do you agree? In Adrienne Rich s poem The Knight, the reader is given a brief yet profound insight into the deceiving nature of humans; how we give a calm, collected front full of light and purity, yet beneath the surface we are in truth dark and inevitably mortal. The Knight portrays what every man, woman and child must inevitably decide on: to expose their true face or to hide behind a false mask to please others. The initial line A knight rides into the noon evokes a sense that the knight, a chivalrous and pure being, is riding gallantly into the noon, where the sun s brightness is at its apex. When... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The knight s only animate part of himself is his eye ; the rest is iron or steed. His body is a lump of bitter jelly set in a metal mask , in other words a slob in an iron panoply set upon a mount. His shining appearance gives the illusion that the knight is a shining example of medieval society; a pinnacle to aspire to, fit, mighty and strong. The reality is completely opposite; inside he is a quivering pile of fat, robed with rags and tatters which clothe him beneath the metal suit. The knight is no different from any other man, the battle wears his nerves to ribbons despite his radiant appearance. He is nervous about the outcome of the battle, whether he will live to charge gloriously into battle once again. Despite his steely skin, the knight is little different from the lower classes of society, poor, almost naked and mortal. The knight cannot avoid the one fate that envelops all mankind with his pure appearance, his fraudulent true self cannot be covered fancifully with wooing society. Rich portrays a sense that although we all can all wear masks to cover our true natures; we cannot hide forever behind this false front. If an enemy unhorse[s] this rider and frees him between the walls of iron , what will become of the knight? His pure, chivalrous, fake mask might be shattered and his true stout nature will be revealed to all, his coveted emblems crushing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
