The Short And Medium Term Needs For Emergency Shelter
Intro
Contemporary designers and architects are addressing the short and medium term needs of people
who require emergency and refugee shelters, by evaluating the requirements of people once they
have been displaced from their home due to a natural disaster, or any other adversity that they may
face. This article will compare and contrast different types of emergency shelters, both short and
long term, and appraise the key considerations that contemporary designers and architects must
make while creating these refuges.
Addressing short and medium term needs for emergency shelter
A short term emergency shelter is usually something that people call transitional
accommodation. The short term needs for an emergency shelter consist of: A place to sleep, a
roof over their head, showers, cleans drinking water and food. Designer s need to come up with
a way that they can gain access to clean water and safe food in the midst of a natural disaster,
and how they will get it to them as quickly as possible, whilst making sure there is enough room
in the housing estate to look after everyone whose been evicted from their home, or their home
has been damaged and ruined in one way or another. Medium and long term needs in emergency
shelters change a little bit, with them still needing all the basics, but also then having things
readily available like doctors, medication, physiatrists, and educational tools like a local school, or
books for the children to read in there spare time. They

Alternative Healthcare Options For Alternative Medicine
Introduction
Alternative healthcare options also known as alternative medicine is any of various method of
healing or treating disease that is not included under traditional medical practice in the United
States and Britain (Webster dictionary). These alternatives include methods such as hypnosis,
acupuncture, aromatherapy, chiropractic therapy, spiritual or faith healing amongst others.
Alternative medicine is the term used for medical products and practices that are not part of the
standard of care. Standard of care is what medical doctors, doctors of traditional medicine, and
allied health professionals, such as nurses and physical therapists, practice. Alternative medicine is
used in place of standard medical care. Examples of alternative practices that do not include
traditional medicine are aroma therapy, diet therapy, herbalism, homeopathy, massage therapy,
reflexology, chiropractic therapy, cannabis, faith or spiritual healing and acupuncture amongst
others (Medicine.net). Alternative medical systems are built upon complete systems of theory and
practice sometimes these systems develop into something substantial; some if these systems have
even developed in western cultures. Examples of alternative medical systems that have developed
in Western cultures are homeopathic medicine and naturopathic medicine. Examples of systems
that have developed in non Western cultures include traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurveda
(Medicine.net). There are more than a hundred

Canadian Identity
History has shaped Canada by molding essential components that represent Canada today, such as
Canadian identity, values, and society. However, even though everything in history has effects on
the present, there are major forces throughout the 1900s that have largely contributed in shaping
Canada today. This involves, the victory in Vimy Ridge, women s changing roles, and the growing
economy during 1920s. As a result, these forces that shaped Canadathroughout the 1900s,
determined Canada today by molding key components that represent Canada.
Undoubtedly, one major component that represents Canada is the Canadian identity. Today, many
would use certain words such as diverse and bilingual. However, before WWI, there wasn t much

Before WWI, women had limited job options with low pay, such as teaching, leaving many
women stay in their traditional roles as wives, mothers, and domestic workers. However, when
men enlisted in WWI and the war effort needed workers to make supplies, ships, tanks, bombs,
etc, many women found themselves doing the same jobs as men. When the men returned from
the war, they took back their jobs, but this caused many women to no longer be satisfied by
playing their traditional roles. This created consequences, were women fought for their right to
vote, greater educational and job opportunities, be able to hold jobs with higher power, and
improved labour laws and health care. After many challenges to get equal rights, most women
were finally able to obtain a right to vote in 1919, and gain entry to higher job opportunities while
being considered as persons in 1929. Compare to Canada today, there is one thing that has
continued throughout the years, and that is the fight for equality. However, the change is that
women are no longer fighting for equal education and health care, but equal pay and the ability to
hold higher positions. For example, in 1921, Agnes Macphail was the first woman elected to the
House of Commons, resulting in 1 woman out of 235 seats. After the shift of values, Canada has

Ethics Of Care Ethics Paper
In 2013, Swift stated a clear majority of Americans (58%) say the drug should be legalized (1).
Within the past three years this number has increased. The Ethics of Care is related to this
concept because it has to do with taking a look at what is right and wrong. This system also takes
a look at equality within all. The development to sanction weed reflects the generally late
accomplishment of the development to legitimize gay marriage, which voters have likewise
endorsed now in 14 states. Open support for gay marriage, which Americans additionally
overwhelmingly restricted before, has expanded significantly, achieving larger part bolster in the
most recent two years. The idea of legalizing marijuana is dependent on a person s age in most

The Ethics of Care stands for an attempt to change moral intelligent talk from the usual focus on
justice rights, and fairness, to another system that merges clearly feminine qualities for example
focusing too much on relationships, kindness, and the communication between and those for
who they take care of. John Tronto argues that the definition of the term ethics of care is
confusing due in part to the lack of a central role it plays in moral. He argues that moral is
engaged with human goodness, then care would appear to assume a big role in this type of way
of thinking. However, this is not the case and Tronto further stresses the association between care
and naturalness . The last thing just mentioned term refers to the socially and culturally built roles
where care is mainly assumed to be the role of the woman. So, care loses the power to take a
central role in moral

Chapter Four
Chapter Four Riley Right Around The Corner The sound of my alarm clock screaming woke me
up, much to my demise. I released a groan and rolled over in my bed, laying on my back and
staring up at the plain white ceiling. I blinked a couple of times as clearing some of the sleep in
my eyes and trying to grab some energy to move. Finally after at least ten minutes I dragged
myself up and out of bed. I stretched back and let out a yawn that could probably be heard from
Canada. I was still tired as hell from last night and having to deal with Seth and all his craziness at
the movies. I walked into my bathroom, flicking on the light but ended up flinching back from the
brightness of it. I swear the light was going to make me go blind. It... Show more content on

Obamacare Persuasive Essay
Several of us are watching the news right now waiting to see if Senate Majority Leader Mitch
McConnell and Congress get the 50 out of 52 votes to repeal legislation and to begin the
Obamacare debate. After the votes are counted the debate will start for Obamacare to be repealed
or to not be repealed. Obamacare, also known as Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, was
signed in March 2010 by Obama to Include multiple provisions that would take effect over a matter
of years, including the expansion of Medicaid eligibility, the establishment of health insurance
exchanges and prohibiting health insurers from denying coverage due to pre existing conditions.
( Affordable ). Therefore, this debate will show what Obamacare does for the people of the U.S,
what will replace Obamacare if it is repealed, and if it is worth all the hassle of repealing and
replaces it with Trump Care or to not replace it. Obamacare should not be repealed because
several Americans are relying on Obamacare s cost assistance to afford health care. Many
citizens often ask each other, What is Obamacare? To be quite honest, not many people could
explain to each other what Obamacare is. The main goal of Obamacare is to give access to more
affordable health insurance and to reduce the growth of overall spending on health care in the
U.S (DeMichele, What is Obamacare? ). Obamacare may seem like every other bill that can be
repealed or replaced but it is not. Citizens lean on Obamacare to give them the

that scientists can find a cure for polio. Dr. Salk has developed a vaccine and the HeLa cells can
now be used to test out his theory. HeLa cells were being sent everywhere by train, plane and

Machines Overcoming Humans
As one would begin to think, about how much technology we humans use daily, they realize just
how much we are in need of it. As people, look back in time over the generations to where we no
technology to whereas now almost everything you come across you can find on the internet or on a
system. When reading The Machine Stops, it shows the reader just how naГЇve people are to how
much technology they use. People are so use to just having it that they do not even think about how
much it consumes their lives. As I have learned, in the past couple of months just how much we
humansare as a cyborg, made me just as gullible as people are to how much technology consumes
our lives. When first thinking about the concept of us humans are as cybernetic organisms I was
skeptical about the concept and did not believe we were as cybernetic organisms. As looking to see
what a cybernetic organism is, I found they are a humanwho has certain biological developments
assisted or controlled by mechanical or electronic devices. When learning that was the meaning I
began to think us humans are as cybernetic organisms. My first reading on the thoughts of cyborg,
was You Are Cyborg, written by Hari Kunzru, writing to Donna Haraway who does believe we
humans are cyborgs. As one reads You Are Cyborg, who sees that Donna Haraway, is not saying
that we humans are physically cyborgs that are all mechanically made but that we are consumed by
technology making us cybernetic organisms. This concept

Have you ever been in situation where your life was entirely based on your own actions, been
stuck in life or death situation with little sanctuary? These questions revolve around the book
Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. Thirteen year old Brian is the sole survivor of a devastating plane
crash in the middle of the canadian wilderness after the pilot had a heart attack. For a harsh 54
days, Brian pulls an amazing feat by living by himself with only his wits and very little knowledge
on how to survive. Overall, one of the main reasons Brian lived through his trials and tribulations is

Descriptive Adjectives In The Monkey s Paw And The House...
Descriptive Adjectives in The Monkey s Paw, and The House of the Scorpion.
The author, Erik Pevernagie, once said, When ideas evaporate, when shapes fade and forms lose
their integrity, our imagination can create an outlandish setting and convert everything into a hazy,
misty Turner landscape. ( Back garden of a dream ) .
Many writers often use specific words and details to help bring the reader into the story. By
using these words the writer helps develop a setting, and it brings the reader into, and be able to
experience it as if they were there. In the story The Monkey s Paw by W.W Jacobs, and the novel,
The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer, the author uses descriptive adjectives to help
develop the setting. First, the author uses descriptive adjectives in The Monkey s Paw, to
develop setting in the story. This helps the reader see and feel the setting as if they were really
there. In addition, the quote, Without, the night was cold and wet, but in the small Laburnum
Villa the blinds were drawn and the fire burned brightly. The quote helps to set the stage of the
story, while also bringing a warm, and inviting kind of mood. Saying that the fire burned
brightly brings a comforting feeling to the reader like they are with the characters in the story.
Next, another example of Descriptive adjectives would be, A cold wind rushed up the staircase,
and a long loud wail of disappointment and misery from his wife gave him the courage to run
down to her side, and then to the gate beyond. The streetlamp flickering opposite shone on a
quiet and deserted road. This quote brings an unsettling but relieved state of mind. The father just
wished away his undead son, and the tension in the story is released. Saying the street lamp was
flickering on a quiet and deserted road brings the reader into the story as if they were staring off
into the street with the characters. Lastly, descriptive adjectives is in the quote, He sat until he was
chilled with the cold, glancing occasionally at the figure of the old woman in the window. The
candle end, which had burned below the rim of the china candlestick, was throwing pulsating
shadows on the ceiling and walls, until, with a flicker larger than the rest,

Timbuk2 Case
Timbuk2: Outsourcing, Offshoring and Mass Customization Introduction: Timbuk2 was founded in
1989 by Rob Honeycutt, a San Francisco bike messenger. Honeycutt wanted to develop a messenger
bag that was rugged enough for everyday wear and tear, but chic enough to set a fashion trend. The
company founded its success based on its lean manufacturing and mass customization principles.
With many of the American companies now outsourcing their manufacturing processes to China, it
became hard for Timbuk2 executives to ignore the labor cost benefits that Chinese manufacturing
would provide. Dealing with different channels (wholesale/retailers, e commerce, etc), Timbuk2
also had to find a way to improve their mass customization processes and... Show more content on

According to the case, the labor costs for mass customization is about 10% higher than labor costs
for large batches or traditional manufacturing. In order for mass customization to work, Timbuk2
will need to determine how many color palettes, design patterns and the types of logos to offer
their customers. Overall their challenge for mass customization is to determine whether or not
their machines and workforce is capable of manufacturing the design the customer specified. Mass
customization and variety can also lead to higher potential for errors. Errors in manufacturing can
lead to higher labor cost; the time and money it would take to correct the order is a potential threat
to their profitability. One of the benefits of mass customization is that Timbuk2 will provide its
customers with perceived value added to their products. The customer can design his/her own bag
according to his/her preference, which adds the value of uniqueness to the product. Considering the
mass customization option, one needs to consider the inventory in stock. With customization,
Timbuk2 s manufacturing department can actually work with less finished good inventory, since
the inventory is sent off as soon as it s finished. They will have less finished goods inventory in
stock, which will in turn allow them to offer certain, stocked products at a reduced price. Due to its
mass customization practices already in place, it shows that if Timbuk2 were to offer

size of update. Halo 5 currently sits at 87.3gbs on my hard drive which is extremely unnecessarily
massive for the amount of content in the game. Let compare that to other games.

The Art Of Luis Jimenez s Border Crossing

Art is not what you see, but what you make others see (Edgar Degas). Art can range from
paintings, photos, metal working, abstracts and much more. It can take you places where you re
not and it allows you to interpret things differently from other people. There are many pieces of art
that are placed throughout Iowa State campus, from the art inside of the many halls to the
sculptures and even the buildings that fill campus. These are all just a few pieces of art that have
their own meaning and interpretation. The sculpture Border Crossing, located near MacKay Hall,
is just one of many located throughout campus. This sculpture represents pushing towards a goal

Questions On Deep Learning Technique Essay
1.4.3Deep Learning Technique
Machine Learning at its most basic is the practice of using algorithms to parse data, learn from it,
and then make a determination or prediction about something in the world. So rather than hand
coding software routines with a specific set of instructions to accomplish a particular task, the
machine is trained using large amounts of data and algorithms that give it the ability to learn how
to perform the task [12]. Deep learning is another Machine Learning (ML) algorithm. Deep learning
is essentially a set of techniques that help you to parameterize deep neural network structures,
neural networks with many, many layers and parameters. Deep Learning breaks down tasks in
ways that makes all kinds of machine assists seem possible, even likely. The confusion matrix, in

My Reflection Of Nature
The main way the readings, reflections, and discussions with classmates has contributed to my
understanding of how to incorporate nature is the variety of perceptions. I really enjoyed how
every individual in the class had their own take on an issue and a way to connect it to nature. For
example, there were at least three people who decided to focus on the issue of loss and grief for
the assignment that was shared over the camping trip. Even though the topic was discussed by three
people, each person used a different part of nature to depict their unique metaphor. Another way
completing the classwork with peers has contributed to my understanding of how to incorporate
nature is that the information from peers has displayed to me incorporating nature does not need to
be difficult.
Since the beginning of the semester, I was worried about how I would incorporate nature into
the location I am currently at for practicum. Due to the fact that I am a student, I have to record,
which limits my ability to take clients outside. Also, there is an issue with confidentiality as
soon as I walk out the door with one of my clients. There are a large number of what if s , for
example, what if the client and I bump into the client s peers. These thoughts made adding nature
into my practicum site seem impossible and I was worried about how I was going to role play
with a partner on how to get clients outside.
However, the readings, reflections, as well as class discussions calmed my

Symptoms associated with a UCL injury include the following: pain on the inside of the elbow,

(Tommy). Rarely do UCL injuries interfere with non throwing activities, such as: activities of

are usually first treated with conservative (non surgical) therapies. These therapies include: rest,

The Field Of Business Management

Business Management
In the field of business there are several fields of emphasis one can choose to focus their major
on. I chose to major in business management for several very distinct reasons that will appear in
this paper. The first reason I choose to focus on a management major was for the opportunity to
work with other people. Management requires collaboration as opposed to simply being an
individual effort. The second reason I am interested in the field of business management is that I
am competitive. Because of this I prefer to step up in a leadership position. The most significant
reason for choosing my major is that I believe in the saying, the greater the risk, the greater the
rewards. I know that as a manager I have to risk the most as the man in charge. I also recognize
that I gain the most out of my successes for putting the most on the line. These reasons that I will
discuss in greater detail are the core of why I chose to major in business management. As
mentioned, my interest in business management comes largely from a desire to collaborate with
my peers, but this also means bringing together new technologies that are modernizing business
today. In his article, The Future of Management, Irving Wladawsky Berger writes, Management
talent is critical. As digitization permeates every nook and cranny of every company, managers at
all levels must be fluent in how to best

Swot Analysis Of Fedex
The Federal Express (FedEx) was born as an idea for a college paper by Fredrick Smith in 1971.
In the paper, he suggested using air transportation to deliver urgent packages overnight since
airports tend to be not congested during that time of day, would make the transportation much
faster and economical. After acquiring a share in Arkansas Aviation Sales, Fred started his
package delivery business, which turned profitable by 1975 and saw a rapid growth to own 43%
of the market by the early 1990s. [1] United Parcel Service (UPS) started as a collaboration
between the American Messenger Company and Merchants Parcel Delivery in 1919. The
American Messenger Company founded by James Casey and Claude Ryan in 1907 was mainly in

By doing so, the company is not obligated to provide them health benefits and other allowances
(which is mandated for employees only), thereby the company had a good control on labor costs
(limited employee growth) and had significant savings. The ISP model was challenged in courts
and eventually had to resort to negotiating with multiple contractors nationwide to deliver packages
in a timely manner with the new trade rules and regulations.
FedEx follows the The Purple Promise in which the company focusses on customer satisfaction and
accepts the shipment details as is from the customer without any sort of verification. This could lead
to shipment delays if there are mistakes in the destination address by the customer which would
lead to customer dissatisfaction. [3]
UPS also has segmented its business into three segments: US domestic package, International
package and Supply chain and Freight services. According to the 2015 revenue report, US
domestic package was highest revenue segment with a share of 62% followed by International
package (21%) and Supply chain and Freight services (17%). [4]
Unlike FedEx, UPS directly hires its employees and provides health benefits, allowances and
opportunities for employee growth within the company (unionized). This helps the company to
maintain control of the schedules of its employees. Since UPS must

Weather Conditions And Atmospheric Characteristics Within...
Climate change has been the topic of discussion as recent research analysis reveal both historic and
severe weather conditions impacting the environment on a global scale. Climate change has
rerouted societies thoughts toward how imperative it is in being competent and bringing awareness
to environmental issues. With focus on the United States, our country has experienced various
types of weatherchanges across the nation. As some regional areas could prepare for seasonal
change weather prediction is now at a challange. With a steady rise in global warming and extensive
rain overflow, one must think how human error has contributed in nature s response. Furthermore,
with focus on the south regional state of Texas, this research paper will discuss a current analysis in
weather conditions and atmospheric characteristics within the Houston area.
Texas is known for its wide rage in weather conditions and characteristics. The Gulf of
Mexico is the primary geographical feature affecting the area s climate and temperature. Being the
second largest state of the country, Texas consists of four regional areas known as, the Basin and
Range province region, great plains region, interior lowlands region, and gulf coastal plains region.
Each regional area of the state contributes to different weather, climate, and atmospheric conditions.
Texas is also divided into ten climate divisions which are notated as followsНѕ

History Of Curling
Originating in Scotland, curling in one of the oldest team sports recorded to date. Created in the
16th century, the earliest known curling stones were found in Perth and Sterling, Scotland. These
curling stones are dated back as far as 1511. As the game developed, stones with handles were
designed and used to help improve accuracy. The first known use of this development dates back
to the early 1600 s. Back then the sport of curlingwas played during the winter months on frozen
ponds and lochs by two teams ( Olympic Curling , 2018). As curling grew in popularity, curling
clubs began to appear in Scotland. The Grand Caledonian Curling Club was the first to develop

Players can use their play to knock the other team s stone farther away from the tee . Players can

Porter s Generic Strategies Framework
Introduction Porter s generic strategies framework constitutes a major contribution to the
development of the strategic management literature. Generic strategies were first presented in
two books by Professor Michael Porter of the Harvard Business School (Porter, 1980, 1985).
Porter (1980, 1985) suggested that some of the most basic choices faced by companies are
essentially the scope of the markets that the company would serve and how the company would
compete in the selected markets. Competitive strategies focus on ways in which a company can
achieve the most advantageous position that it possibly can in its industry (Pearson, 1999). The
profit of a company is essentially the difference between its revenues and costs. Therefore high...

Companies employ this strategy by focusing on the areas in a market where there is the least
amount of competition (Pearson, 1999). Organisations can make use of the focus strategy by
focusing on a specific niche in the market and offering specialised products for that niche. This
is why the focus strategy is also sometimes referred to as the niche strategy (Lynch, 2003).
Therefore, competitive advantage can be achieved only in the company s target segments by
employing the focus strategy. The company can make use of the cost leadership or
differentiation approach with regard to the focus strategy. In that, a company using the cost
focus approach would aim for a cost advantage in its target segment only. If a company is using
the differentiation focus approach, it would aim for differentiation in its target segment only,
and not the overall market. This strategy provides the company the possibility to charge a
premium price for superior quality (differentiation focus) or by offering a low price product to a
small and specialised group of buyers (cost focus). Ferrari and Rolls Royce are classic examples
of niche players in the automobile industry. Both these companies have a niche of premium
products available at a premium price. Moreover, they have a small percentage of the worldwide
market, which is a trait characteristic of niche players. The downside of the focus strategy,
however, is that the niche characteristically is small and may not be significant or large

Disadvantages Of Strawberry Legs
Strawberry legs: Spoiler! How to get rid of it?
What Are Strawberry Legs?
Try observing a strawberry. Do you see the small seeds they have? You can notice black pores on
your legs after shaving that look similar. That is why this condition is called strawberry legs.
Sometimes the pores are hardly noticeable, and other times, they are so conspicuous that you start
feeling self conscious to show off your legs.
What are the causes of strawberry legs? Listed below are some potential causes of dark spots on
legs:
Sun Exposure
Sun exposure is the top cause of dark spots on legs and other exposed parts of the skin. Our skin
contains special cells called melanocytes. These cells produce a pigment called melanin.
Melanin determines the color of our skin, eyes, and hair. Dark skinned individuals, for example,
have higher levels of melanin in the skin than their counterparts with light skin. Melanin also helps
to protect the skin against sun damage. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because melanin is not always produced uniformly, a condition known as hyperpigmentation often
occurs.
This is manifested by dark spots on legs and other parts of the body. These spots are referred to as
sun spots, age spots, liver spots, or solar lentigines. Hyperpigmentation can affect anyone regardless
of the race or skin color.
Hormonal changes e.g. during pregnancy tend to enhance hyperpigmentation. It is thus even more
imperative to protect your skin while pregnant.
Aging
For most people, old age means years of accumulated sun damage. This usually manifests itself in
dark spots on legs, arms, and other exposed parts of the skin in old age. These patches tend to
appear after 40 years. They can occur on any exposed part of the skin including the lower

Chapter 1: The encounter It seemed to be another typical day. Windy, but warm. I honestly

sitting on the bench reading my book when I began to hear a strange whirring noise. I looked up
from my book to see a what seemed to be a police box. It wasn t there before... and this is Georgia!
Not England. I saw the doors begin to open and I shoved my face back in my book. After about a
minuet I heard footstep coming closer to me. I looked up to see a woman who seemed to be about
20 years old in front of me. She had short dark brown hair with a pink flower in it. She also wore a
lab coat that seemed to be a bit large for her with a pair of glasses in a pocket and a pink scarf the
same color as the flower. Excuse me but... what year is it? She asked me. Um... 2016. I
responded with a confused tone. Who was this lady and how does she not even know the year?
2016... quite a year if I do say so myself! She said excitedly. Well... thank you! She then walked
back to the Police Box. Suddenly I got the strange feeling of someone watching me. I never had
had that feeling before until now. I quickly spun my head around to see an angel statue with an arm
reaching towards me. Chapter 2: Don t Blink WHAT EVER YOU DO DON T BLINK! I heard

Relationship Between Birth Order And Personality
Birth order and personality have been a topic of discussion throughout the years with many well
known psychologist like Freud and Adler doing research on them. Some research that has been
conducted shows there is no correlation between birth order and personality. Then there is other
research that states in fact birth orderdoes affect personality and intelligence. I believe birth order
shows distinctive characteristics in regard to firstborns and their achievement level in comparison
to their younger siblings. The media article we picked was from an online journal called The
Atlantic. The article in summary talked about how two of the studies they looked at showed no
resemblance with birth order and personality traits. Beck states, birth order is similar to a
horoscope because each child is classified as a specific personality trait. With this article, The Order
On Personality And Achievement Within Families they did multiple studies and found there is a
relationship between the two. In study number 2 they found that firstborns were ranked more
conscientious and more achieving. In all of the articles I found they showed construct validity. The
first article was conducted with 375 students. The researchers wanted to figure out if first borns or
second borns were higher in either mastery goals or performance goals. Their construct was
mastery and performance and they measured this with a survey that had a 5 point scale. Each

Good Night And Good Luck And The Crucible Analysis
What is the main source of power? Well you probably already know the answer because of the
title, but it is fear and lying. Some may disagree but in the end we all have our opinions. Think of
it this way what controls people to do something they don t want to? The answer is fear. If
someone was threatening my family and had them captured, well the best option for me would
have to be to comply with them, because I would be afraid they might hurt my family.
The other source is lying to people. Lie to people and you just might have set fear into them. In
Good Night and Good Luck and The Crucible people who held power were mainly the people that
set the cluster of lies to unravel all the chain of events that made the story the way it was.
In addition to, the first source of power is fear. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

mark this. Let either of you breathe a word, or the edge of a word, about the other things, and I
will come to you in the black of some terrible night and I will bring a pointy reckoning that will
shudder you . (Abigail Act 1)
Furthermore, the second source for power is dishonesty. Yes, lying with fear does tend to lead to
power. When senator McCarthy lies to the people and tells them they all these certain rules that
explain basically most of the things the people were doing were all meanings of communism. In
The Crucible however lying was the main half rather than fear. The group of girls all made the
decision to lie and act like they were involved with the devil.
In conclusion, Power is a very dangerous thing. I am not saying anyone that has it is evil, but
what I am saying is that listen to the movies and all the quotes that come from great minds. They
all have one similar agreement and that is power in the wrong hands is dangerous. As we have
seen power with senator McCarthy is bad and power with Abigail over the girls also ended up to

2.1 Technical Preparation
A good penetration tester must be technically competent and methodical. In many situations, a test
team is more appropriate than an individual tester. 2 Care must be taken in selecting, installing and
configuring the platforms used to perform the testing. Although there are several commercial tools
that can be used to perform penetration tests such as Internet ScannerВ® from Internet Security
Systems3, free tools will be used throughout this testing. Kurtz and Prosise make an excellent point
when they claim; Running a commercial vulnerability scanner is penetration testing is a myth. 4
There are several problems with simply running a vulnerability scanner and assuming that a
complete penetration test has been performed. The first is that the vulnerability scanners are only as
good as the person running them. As will be discussed latter in this paper, there is more to
performing a penetration test than just finding

The Ford Mustang And The Corvette
Over the past sixty years, the American car scene has been dominated by two completely different
vehicles and the entire communities that believe in them. Both designed, founded, and rooted in
Detroit, Michigan, the Ford Mustang and the Corvette have continued to fuel the chase for the label

The Temperance Movement of the Late 19th and Early 20th Century
The temperance movement of the 1800 s compelled Americans to consider the impact of alcohol
consumption on society. The temperance movement was one of many reforms taking place during
the 19th century. Other reforms taking place in America were women s rights, abolition, prison and
asylum reform, education reforms, and religious awakenings. The common element in all of these
reforms is the awareness and desire to improve society and thus American lives. This essay
examines the temperance movement and its successes and failures.
Reasons for the Movement:
Among the reasons that people in this time period consumed alcohol had to do with the fact that
water and milk were not always safe to drink. Alcohol consumption began early in life and was
commonly drank at home and social events. Alcohol use in moderation was sanctioned even by
church leaders. But, fears of the consequences of excess alcohol consumption had existed prior to
this time period (Temperance Movement, Carson and Bonk).
Saloons outnumbered schools, libraries, and churches by 1909. Also, there was a greater
understanding of the harmful effects of excess alcohol use on health from medical professionals.
Politically, taverns were controlled by brewers such as Anheuser Busch or the liquor trusts
(Temperance Movement in the 1900 s). Concerns of excess alcohol consumption brought about a
climate of social awareness and calls for change in the early

Banning Open Carry And Concealed Carry
When citizens have the freedom to legally defend themselves, but are restricted by
unaccommodating gun laws, what defense possibilities do they have? With population based
restrictions on open carry and concealed carry, residents of California cannot possess firearms
unless the weapons are stored inside of their homes or in the trunk of their cars. Although
Californians can certainly defend themselves at home, self defense becomes much more

most restrictive states when it comes to gun control, yet according to the FBI s uniformed crime
report, California led the nation with 151,879 violent crimes (murder and non negligent

of violent crime, self defense at home and in public is a necessity, but that necessity is
compromised by the prohibition of open carry. The belief that criminals can easily remove a firearm
from an individual exercising open carry is absurd considering modern holsters are now designed
with retention in mind. Logically, criminals would avoid attacking someone who is exercising
open carry due to the likelihood of being killed in an altercation or being forced to kill the
individual and face capital punishment. Although people exercising open carry can cause panic
from the community and police officers, the issue is generally resolved without complications and
programs to raise awareness on gun rights would improve relations. Raising public awareness

important part in this economic equation. They could help England become self sufficient by
producing things that could not be made or grown there such as tobacco, sugar, and tall masts for
ships. Colonists could also provide a market for British goods, particularly manufactured products,
such as woolen cloth or beaver hats. This meant that the home economy in England could become
more fully developed, while the colonial economies were relegated to a role of supplying raw
materials. To insure that the American colonies would contribute to this overall sense of British
wealth, various Navigation Acts were passed beginning in 1650 to regulate trade between the
colonies, England, and the rest of the world. In many cases, ships carrying American products to

Frankenstein
ВЁ What terrified me will terrify others, and I need only describe the specter which had haunted my
midnight pillowВЁ She was just a teenager when she created the novel, Frankenstein. It all
happened on a gloomy rainy day When a bunch of Romance writers was stuck in a room. When a
man who went by the name Lord Byron, had suggested that the writers write a ghost story. That is
when the teenage girl, Mary Shelley wrote the novel, Frankenstein. Which was Published on
January 1, 1818.
Throughout the novel, Victor is having to endure so much pain in his life. Which all could have
been mostly avoided in the first place if after he was done creating him; helped the monster
awaken in the new world by his side to teach him the ways of the world. I took refuge in the
courtyard belonging to the house I inhabited where I remained during the rest of the night, walking
up and down in the greatest agitation the monster was created as victor left him to fend for himself,
practically was left to die.
In another instance, a second time that he could have resolved the issue which death would strike
was when the monster had asked for a companion. The monster had made a promise he would
move far away with his wife and they would never come to face man again. Victor had said he
would. But as he denied his request the monster warned him. I will be there on your wedding night

The Video Of Obama s 2008 Election Speech
Could Smell like this commercial first aired right before the 2010 Super bowl, and ended up
going viral. In fact, it became so popular that it ended up gaining more YouTube views than the
video of Obama s 2008 election speech within the first 24 hours of their postings. Additionally,
since the release of the commercial, there has been a 300% increase in traffic to the Old Spice
website, and Old Spice now has the most viewed sponsored YouTube channel. About the
Commercial, since it s a means of propaganda, there is a high amount of sensationalism in the
text. For example, the gradual transition from the ordinary (a man stepping out of the shower), to
the bizarre (a shirtless man riding a horse on a beach), helps emphasize the fact that everything is
possible with Old Spice. Overall, the text is very persuasive not because of its reasonable logic, but
because of its emotion driven hyperbole that appeals to the audiences sense of humor. Evaluation
Hello, ladies, look at your man, now back to me, now back at your man, now back to me. Sadly,
he isn t me, but if he stopped using ladies scented body wash and switched to Old Spice, he could
smell like he s me. As the commercial begins, the man specifically addresses the women. He first
builds his ethos by asking the women to compare their men to himself, in which case, the men in
the audience fall short. After building his credibility, he then creates an argument. The Major

monstrous swells and strong winds. The epicentre of this disaster was in the mainland of
Indonesia which also happened to be the worst every affected country followed by Sri Lanka
then India. This made the earth move over a centre metre and caused aftershocks in places as far
away as Alaska. This also prompted the biggest ever humanitarian response of over 14 billion
dollars and also thousands of workers to help in the huge clean up process which ended up to take
about five years to complete.
What is Humanitarian aid?
Humanitarian response is providing short term help to those in need while the government does not
have the money to look after all its citizens. Humanitarian aid is normally giving some of the

  • 2. The Short And Medium Term Needs For Emergency Shelter Intro Contemporary designers and architects are addressing the short and medium term needs of people who require emergency and refugee shelters, by evaluating the requirements of people once they have been displaced from their home due to a natural disaster, or any other adversity that they may face. This article will compare and contrast different types of emergency shelters, both short and long term, and appraise the key considerations that contemporary designers and architects must make while creating these refuges. Addressing short and medium term needs for emergency shelter A short term emergency shelter is usually something that people call transitional accommodation. The short term needs for an emergency shelter consist of: A place to sleep, a roof over their head, showers, cleans drinking water and food. Designer s need to come up with a way that they can gain access to clean water and safe food in the midst of a natural disaster, and how they will get it to them as quickly as possible, whilst making sure there is enough room in the housing estate to look after everyone whose been evicted from their home, or their home has been damaged and ruined in one way or another. Medium and long term needs in emergency shelters change a little bit, with them still needing all the basics, but also then having things readily available like doctors, medication, physiatrists, and educational tools like a local school, or books for the children to read in there spare time. However, even though everything in history has effects on the present, there are major forces throughout the 1900s that have largely contributed in shaping Canada today. This involves, the victory in Vimy Ridge, women s changing roles, and the growing economy during 1920s. As a result, these forces that shaped Canadathroughout the 1900s, determined Canada today by molding key components that represent Canada. Before WWI, women had limited job options with low pay, such as teaching, leaving many women stay in their traditional roles as wives, mothers, and domestic workers. However, when men enlisted in WWI and the war effort needed workers to make supplies, ships, tanks, bombs, etc, many women found themselves doing the same jobs as men. When the men returned from the war, they took back their jobs, but this caused many women to no longer be satisfied by playing their traditional roles. This created consequences, were women fought for their right to vote, greater educational and job opportunities, be able to hold jobs with higher power, and improved labour laws and health care. After many challenges to get equal rights, most women were finally able to obtain a right to vote in 1919, and gain entry to higher job opportunities while being considered as persons in 1929. Compare to Canada today, there is one thing that has continued throughout the years, and that is the fight for equality. However, the change is that women are no longer fighting for equal education and health care, but equal pay and the ability to hold higher positions. For example, in 1921, Agnes Macphail was the first woman elected to the House of Commons, resulting in 1 woman out of 235 seats. After the shift of values, Canada has taken some steps by ... • 5. Ethics Of Care Ethics Paper In 2013, Swift stated a clear majority of Americans (58%) say the drug should be legalized (1). Within the past three years this number has increased. The Ethics of Care is related to this concept because it has to do with taking a look at what is right and wrong. This system also takes a look at equality within all. The development to sanction weed reflects the generally late accomplishment of the development to legitimize gay marriage, which voters have likewise endorsed now in 14 states. The Ethics of Care stands for an attempt to change moral intelligent talk from the usual focus on justice rights, and fairness, to another system that merges clearly feminine qualities for example focusing too much on relationships, kindness, and the communication between and those for who they take care of. John Tronto argues that the definition of the term ethics of care is confusing due in part to the lack of a central role it plays in moral. He argues that moral is engaged with human goodness, then care would appear to assume a big role in this type of way of thinking. However, this is not the case and Tronto further stresses the association between care and naturalness . The last thing just mentioned term refers to the socially and culturally built roles where care is mainly assumed to be the role of the woman. • 7. Obamacare Persuasive Essay Several of us are watching the news right now waiting to see if Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Congress get the 50 out of 52 votes to repeal legislation and to begin the Obamacare debate. After the votes are counted the debate will start for Obamacare to be repealed or to not be repealed. Obamacare, also known as Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, was signed in March 2010 by Obama to Include multiple provisions that would take effect over a matter of years, including the expansion of Medicaid eligibility, the establishment of health insurance exchanges and prohibiting health insurers from denying coverage due to pre existing conditions. Therefore, this debate will show what Obamacare does for the people of the U.S, what will replace Obamacare if it is repealed, and if it is worth all the hassle of repealing and replaces it with Trump Care or to not replace it. Obamacare should not be repealed because several Americans are relying on Obamacare s cost assistance to afford health care. Many citizens often ask each other, What is Obamacare? To be quite honest, not many people could explain to each other what Obamacare is. The main goal of Obamacare is to give access to more affordable health insurance and to reduce the growth of overall spending on health care in the U.S (DeMichele, What is Obamacare? ). As people, look back in time over the generations to where we no technology to whereas now almost everything you come across you can find on the internet or on a system. When reading The Machine Stops, it shows the reader just how naГЇve people are to how much technology they use. People are so use to just having it that they do not even think about how much it consumes their lives. As I have learned, in the past couple of months just how much we humansare as a cyborg, made me just as gullible as people are to how much technology consumes our lives. When first thinking about the concept of us humans are as cybernetic organisms I was skeptical about the concept and did not believe we were as cybernetic organisms. As looking to see what a cybernetic organism is, I found they are a humanwho has certain biological developments assisted or controlled by mechanical or electronic devices. When learning that was the meaning I began to think us humans are as cybernetic organisms. My first reading on the thoughts of cyborg, was You Are Cyborg, written by Hari Kunzru, writing to Donna Haraway who does believe we humans are cyborgs. • 13. Descriptive Adjectives In The Monkey s Paw And The House... Descriptive Adjectives in The Monkey s Paw, and The House of the Scorpion. The author, Erik Pevernagie, once said, When ideas evaporate, when shapes fade and forms lose their integrity, our imagination can create an outlandish setting and convert everything into a hazy, misty Turner landscape. ( Back garden of a dream ) . Many writers often use specific words and details to help bring the reader into the story. By using these words the writer helps develop a setting, and it brings the reader into, and be able to experience it as if they were there. In the story The Monkey s Paw by W.W Jacobs, and the novel, The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer, the author uses descriptive adjectives to help develop the setting. First, the author uses descriptive adjectives in The Monkey s Paw, to develop setting in the story. This helps the reader see and feel the setting as if they were really there. In addition, the quote, Without, the night was cold and wet, but in the small Laburnum Villa the blinds were drawn and the fire burned brightly. The quote helps to set the stage of the story, while also bringing a warm, and inviting kind of mood. Saying that the fire burned brightly brings a comforting feeling to the reader like they are with the characters in the story. Next, another example of Descriptive adjectives would be, A cold wind rushed up the staircase, and a long loud wail of disappointment and misery from his wife gave him the courage to run down to her side, and then to the gate beyond. The streetlamp flickering opposite shone on a quiet and deserted road. This quote brings an unsettling but relieved state of mind. The father just wished away his undead son, and the tension in the story is released. Saying the street lamp was flickering on a quiet and deserted road brings the reader into the story as if they were staring off into the street with the characters. Lastly, descriptive adjectives is in the quote, He sat until he was chilled with the cold, glancing occasionally at the figure of the old woman in the window. The candle end, which had burned below the rim of the china candlestick, was throwing pulsating shadows on the ceiling and walls, until, with a flicker larger than the rest, ... • 14. Timbuk2 Case Timbuk2: Outsourcing, Offshoring and Mass Customization Introduction: Timbuk2 was founded in 1989 by Rob Honeycutt, a San Francisco bike messenger. Honeycutt wanted to develop a messenger bag that was rugged enough for everyday wear and tear, but chic enough to set a fashion trend. The company founded its success based on its lean manufacturing and mass customization principles. With many of the American companies now outsourcing their manufacturing processes to China, it became hard for Timbuk2 executives to ignore the labor cost benefits that Chinese manufacturing would provide. Dealing with different channels (wholesale/retailers, e commerce, etc), Timbuk2 also had to find a way to improve their mass customization processes and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the case, the labor costs for mass customization is about 10% higher than labor costs for large batches or traditional manufacturing. In order for mass customization to work, Timbuk2 will need to determine how many color palettes, design patterns and the types of logos to offer their customers. Overall their challenge for mass customization is to determine whether or not their machines and workforce is capable of manufacturing the design the customer specified. Mass customization and variety can also lead to higher potential for errors. Errors in manufacturing can lead to higher labor cost; the time and money it would take to correct the order is a potential threat to their profitability. One of the benefits of mass customization is that Timbuk2 will provide its customers with perceived value added to their products. The customer can design his/her own bag according to his/her preference, which adds the value of uniqueness to the product. Considering the mass customization option, one needs to consider the inventory in stock. With customization, Timbuk2 s manufacturing department can actually work with less finished good inventory, since the inventory is sent off as soon as it s finished. They will have less finished goods inventory in stock, which will in turn allow them to offer certain, stocked products at a reduced price. Due to its mass customization practices already in place, it shows that if Timbuk2 were to offer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Questions On Deep Learning Technique Essay 1.4.3Deep Learning Technique Machine Learning at its most basic is the practice of using algorithms to parse data, learn from it, and then make a determination or prediction about something in the world. So rather than hand coding software routines with a specific set of instructions to accomplish a particular task, the machine is trained using large amounts of data and algorithms that give it the ability to learn how to perform the task [12]. Deep learning is another Machine Learning (ML) algorithm. Deep learning is essentially a set of techniques that help you to parameterize deep neural network structures, neural networks with many, many layers and parameters. Deep Learning breaks down tasks in ways that makes all kinds of machine assists seem possible, even likely. The confusion matrix, in Figure 8 shows that the accuracy of this model is (90.80) with weighted average precision (91.37) greater than recall (91.11) and F1 score (91.24). • 19. My Reflection Of Nature The main way the readings, reflections, and discussions with classmates has contributed to my understanding of how to incorporate nature is the variety of perceptions. I really enjoyed how every individual in the class had their own take on an issue and a way to connect it to nature. For example, there were at least three people who decided to focus on the issue of loss and grief for the assignment that was shared over the camping trip. Even though the topic was discussed by three people, each person used a different part of nature to depict their unique metaphor. Another way completing the classwork with peers has contributed to my understanding of how to incorporate nature is that the information from peers has displayed to me incorporating nature does not need to be difficult. Since the beginning of the semester, I was worried about how I would incorporate nature into the location I am currently at for practicum. Due to the fact that I am a student, I have to record, which limits my ability to take clients outside. Also, there is an issue with confidentiality as soon as I walk out the door with one of my clients. There are a large number of what if s , for example, what if the client and I bump into the client s peers. These thoughts made adding nature into my practicum site seem impossible and I was worried about how I was going to role play with a partner on how to get clients outside. However, the readings, reflections, as well as class discussions calmed my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Field Of Business Management Gerardo Gutierrez Courtney Graeff ENG 122 049 22 October 2014 Business Management In the field of business there are several fields of emphasis one can choose to focus their major on. I chose to major in business management for several very distinct reasons that will appear in this paper. The first reason I choose to focus on a management major was for the opportunity to work with other people. Management requires collaboration as opposed to simply being an individual effort. The second reason I am interested in the field of business management is that I am competitive. Because of this I prefer to step up in a leadership position. The most significant reason for choosing my major is that I believe in the saying, the greater the risk, the greater the rewards. I know that as a manager I have to risk the most as the man in charge. I also recognize that I gain the most out of my successes for putting the most on the line. These reasons that I will discuss in greater detail are the core of why I chose to major in business management. As mentioned, my interest in business management comes largely from a desire to collaborate with my peers, but this also means bringing together new technologies that are modernizing business today. In his article, The Future of Management, Irving Wladawsky Berger writes, Management talent is critical. • 26. Porter s Generic Strategies Framework Introduction Porter s generic strategies framework constitutes a major contribution to the development of the strategic management literature. Generic strategies were first presented in two books by Professor Michael Porter of the Harvard Business School (Porter, 1980, 1985). Porter (1980, 1985) suggested that some of the most basic choices faced by companies are essentially the scope of the markets that the company would serve and how the company would compete in the selected markets. Competitive strategies focus on ways in which a company can achieve the most advantageous position that it possibly can in its industry (Pearson, 1999). The profit of a company is essentially the difference between its revenues and costs. Therefore high... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Companies employ this strategy by focusing on the areas in a market where there is the least amount of competition (Pearson, 1999). Organisations can make use of the focus strategy by focusing on a specific niche in the market and offering specialised products for that niche. This is why the focus strategy is also sometimes referred to as the niche strategy (Lynch, 2003). Therefore, competitive advantage can be achieved only in the company s target segments by employing the focus strategy. The company can make use of the cost leadership or differentiation approach with regard to the focus strategy. In that, a company using the cost focus approach would aim for a cost advantage in its target segment only. If a company is using the differentiation focus approach, it would aim for differentiation in its target segment only, and not the overall market. This strategy provides the company the possibility to charge a premium price for superior quality (differentiation focus) or by offering a low price product to a small and specialised group of buyers (cost focus). Ferrari and Rolls Royce are classic examples of niche players in the automobile industry. Both these companies have a niche of premium products available at a premium price. Moreover, they have a small percentage of the worldwide market, which is a trait characteristic of niche players. The downside of the focus strategy, however, is that the niche characteristically is small and may not be significant or large ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Beck states, birth order is similar to a horoscope because each child is classified as a specific personality trait. With this article, The Order On Personality And Achievement Within Families they did multiple studies and found there is a relationship between the two. In study number 2 they found that firstborns were ranked more conscientious and more achieving. In all of the articles I found they showed construct validity. The first article was conducted with 375 students. The researchers wanted to figure out if first borns or second borns were higher in either mastery goals or performance goals. The Temperance Movement of the Late 19th and Early 20th Century The temperance movement of the 1800 s compelled Americans to consider the impact of alcohol consumption on society. The temperance movement was one of many reforms taking place during the 19th century. Other reforms taking place in America were women s rights, abolition, prison and asylum reform, education reforms, and religious awakenings. The common element in all of these reforms is the awareness and desire to improve society and thus American lives. This essay examines the temperance movement and its successes and failures. Reasons for the Movement: Among the reasons that people in this time period consumed alcohol had to do with the fact that water and milk were not always safe to drink. Alcohol consumption began early in life and was commonly drank at home and social events. Alcohol use in moderation was sanctioned even by church leaders. But, fears of the consequences of excess alcohol consumption had existed prior to this time period (Temperance Movement, Carson and Bonk). Saloons outnumbered schools, libraries, and churches by 1909. Also, there was a greater understanding of the harmful effects of excess alcohol use on health from medical professionals. Mercantilist ideas emphasized that nations should strive toward economic self sufficiency and that the power of a nation should be measured by the amount of its gold and silver reserves. Ultimately, a nation should arrange to produce everything it needed for its own citizens and sell surpluses to for hard currency. This metal reserve, in turn, could be used in emergency situations to pay for wars or solve shortages. Colonies, like those England had in North America, played an important part in this economic equation. They could help England become self sufficient by producing things that could not be made or grown there such as tobacco, sugar, and tall masts for ships. Colonists could also provide a market for British goods, particularly manufactured products, such as woolen cloth or beaver hats. This meant that the home economy in England could become more fully developed, while the colonial economies were relegated to a role of supplying raw materials. To insure that the American colonies would contribute to this overall sense of British wealth, various Navigation Acts were passed beginning in 1650 to regulate trade between the colonies, England, and the rest of the world. In many cases, ships carrying American products to other European countries had to stop in England first to pay duties before continuing onward. • 45. The Video Of Obama s 2008 Election Speech Could Smell like this commercial first aired right before the 2010 Super bowl, and ended up going viral. In fact, it became so popular that it ended up gaining more YouTube views than the video of Obama s 2008 election speech within the first 24 hours of their postings. Additionally, since the release of the commercial, there has been a 300% increase in traffic to the Old Spice website, and Old Spice now has the most viewed sponsored YouTube channel. About the Commercial, since it s a means of propaganda, there is a high amount of sensationalism in the text. For example, the gradual transition from the ordinary (a man stepping out of the shower), to the bizarre (a shirtless man riding a horse on a beach), helps emphasize the fact that everything is possible with Old Spice. Overall, the text is very persuasive not because of its reasonable logic, but because of its emotion driven hyperbole that appeals to the audiences sense of humor. Evaluation Hello, ladies, look at your man, now back to me, now back at your man, now back to me. Sadly, he isn t me, but if he stopped using ladies scented body wash and switched to Old Spice, he could smell like he s me. As the commercial begins, the man specifically addresses the women. He first builds his ethos by asking the women to compare their men to himself, in which case, the men in the audience fall short. After building his credibility, he then creates an argument. The Major Premise being that the men in the audience do not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
