Analysis Of The Movie The 1991 Beating Of Rodney King
The 1991 beating of Rodney King by Los Angeles police provides rich case material in how an attack
perceived as unjust can backfire. George H. W. Bush said, The last thing the leaders of Los Angeles
expected in the early 1990s was that their city would become the scene of the nation s deadliest urban
race riot since the Civil War. The race riot that Mr. Bush is referencing are the Los Angeles race riots
that occurred as a result of Rodney King s arrest in 1991 exemplified the deep tensions between black
citizens and the police force which caused a change in police policy. Rodney King at the age of twenty
two was on parole for beating his girlfriend while she was sleeping. King then went on to drag her
outside the house and beat her again. King was charged with battery and pleaded no contest. He was
then placed on probation and ordered to obtain counseling. He never got the counseling. Weeks pass
and one day King enters a corner store with a tire iron. King, swinging a tire iron, ordered a
convenience store clerk to empty the cash register. The clerk grabbed the tire iron, causing King to fall
backwards and knock over a pie rack. King swung the rack at the clerk and fled the store with two
hundred dollars. King was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, second degree
robbery, and intent to commit great bodily injury. In an agreement, King pleaded guilty to the robbery
charge and the other charges were dropped. He was sentenced to two years in prison,

Summary and Review of Uglies by Scott Westerfield
Uglies takes place In the future, where it is summer. The sun is fading; the deep blue gaps of night are
peering through like an ocean, bottomless and cold. Every summer was beautiful and enjoying, up to
this one. No wonder it couldn t be beautiful, when you lose a best friend, nothing is. Tally Youngblood
was still an ugly. Three months and two days until she finally turns sixteen years old, goes off for the
surgery, and becomes a pretty like her friend Peris. Since Tally isn t a very patient girl, she decides to
sneak out and go to the New Pretty Town and see Peris just for a little while. Tally is a girl that loves
pulling tricks and pranks. Even at the very beginning of the book, Tally is braking in to the New Pretty
Town, and as we get to know, it isn t her first time. She used to do it with Peris as well. When Shay
and she aren t arguing over the pretty surgery, they are breaking the law, pulling some tricks on
younger children, and goofing around. Tally loves causing trouble, even though sometimes, the
intensions aren t like that. Also, Tally is a very brave sixteen year old. Even though she has caused
much trouble, especially to smokies, Tally is willing to clean up the mess and try to fix everything. At
the beginning of the book, Tally s goal is to turn sixteen and become a pretty. Many obstacles come in
her way and towards the middle of the book; Tally realizes how she loves and has a good life being
ugly. Now that she wants to be an Ugly, she can t. The

Shel Silverstein Influences
Shel Silverstein is a popular American cartoonist, singer, songwriter, playwright and author. He is
mostly known for his children books including the popular, The Giving Tree and Where the Sidewalk
Ends. Surprisingly, Shel Silverstein did not always care for children literature. In fact, he criticized the
sappy endings of happy children stories. However, he was eventually convinced by a friend to
transform stereotypical children s book and he able to become successful in creating clever and
humorous poems and books.
Shel Silverstein was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 25, 1930. Growing up he had a strong
devotion to the Chicago White Soxs. Despite his love for the game of baseball he lacked athletic
talent. Because he was not able to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was a cartoonist for the Pacific edition of the U.S. Military s newspaper, Stars and Stripes. When
he got back from war he began drawing for various magazines including Sports Illustrated. He
however did not start getting poplar until his cartoons appeared in Playboy. While working at Playboy,
he began writing music and poems for different magazines. When Silverstein first began his career in
the arts he did not have many influences. His tour of duty however is said to have influenced his dark
worldview. The music he wrote was a big influence in the poems he wrote and they were often
directly connected. It wasn t until 1963 that Silverstein actually began writing things for children.
Before this he viewed children literature as too sweet and condescending with nothing but happy
storylines. He was finally convinced to start writing children s literature after he met a book editor
named Ursual Nordstrom who told him he should just change the things about children s literature that
he did not like. And that is just what he did; he reversed the idiotic stories into more realistic
portrayals of human life. At first many people did not approve of his writings. They thought his stories
were too inappropriate for children but also too simple for adults. He ended up bridging children s
literature with adult literature. One of his biggest influences for writing children books and poems was
that he just didn t like that children literature that was out there and wanted to see

Essay on Jaques Louis David
1. Introduction
Set on a stage of revolution and Enlightenment, the Neo Classical period presents a broad and
interesting topic. Jacques Louis David was the first political painter, and a true revolutionary, but one
cannot disengage his art work from the social and political systems of the period. Therefore, this essay
will present an overview of the social context and systems of Pre Revolution France, Neoclassicism
and how David s work was influenced by it and how his work influenced it. Also important to note are
the art work that influenced Neoclassicism.

The second noted influence on the New Classical period was the excavations of Herculaneum and
Pompeii and the paintings, sculptures and jewellery that were brought forth from these sites. These
mines of wealth motivated an interest in Greco Roman art, which is the mark of Neoclassicism.
Within the recovered works, people saw a physical perfection and moral health which was a dominant
theme of the Enlightenment. New perceptions of society based in the Athesian commonwealth and the
Roman republic was beginning to form, and later these themes became symbols of freedom and
democracy (the basis of Romanticism). The artistic assumption of the time was the idea that, one must
raise beauty over morality and that beauty lies in shape and contour, not in colour, which only assisted
beauty. This principle simplified the Neo Classical forms.

2.2. The Academy
The first academy was started by Leonardo da Vinci in 1498. It was designed as a gathering of people
to discuss art and science. This evolved to the instruction of these subjects by means of an
apprenticeship system; masters teaching students.
Later, the Academy adopted a policy of exclusion to non members, offering only students the
opportunities to be given commissions, exhibitions and prestige. Also, artists could only gain
recognition for their art by the guilds if they had studied at the Academy.

Yucatan Forest Essay
When examining the studies on forests in the Yucatan Peninsula, it is crucial to understand the
importance and severity of hurricane disturbances. Forests in the Yucatan are affected differently by
many different types of forest disturbances, especially anthropogenic and natural disturbances like
hurricanes which occur frequently (Boose et. al. 2003). The Yucatan forests also have calm
topographical conditions, which provides clearer relationships between forest structure and
composition, and hurricane intensity and severity. Understanding the relative importance of hurricanes
also contextualizes the other disturbances that affect forest composition and structure. Anthropogenic
land use conversion historically disturbs the Yucatan forests; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Forest composition is commonly measured by species composition (number of species) in a given
region (Cook 2001). With forest structure, you have a wider range of variables to test the spatial
arrangement and physical characteristics of the trees in a given forest. The spatial arrangement or
density in a forest includes measurements such as basal area, which is the ratio of the area of tree
stems compared to the total area of a stand, and number of stems per hectare. Physical characteristics
of trees include diameter at breast height and canopy height (Cook 2001; McGroddy et al. 2013). This
paper analyzes information regarding how these conditions change with the varying wind speeds and
paths of different hurricanes that have passed over the Yucatan. Wind speeds are the hurricane
component that affects forest composition and structure the most significantly (McGroddy et. al.
2013). While forest composition in the Yucatan is largely unaffected by hurricanes, forest structural
components such as basal area and canopy height are significantly changed. Forests in the Yucatan
region are conditioned and resilient to hurricanes, which affect them less significantly than forest fires
and anthropogenic land use

Essay On Minimum Wage
The Economic Effect of a Minimum Wage Increase in the Fast Food Industry
A question plaguing economists in the news the last couple of years is what would the effect of an
increase in the fast food industry minimum wage be for the workforce. Better yet, how would it effect
the fast food industry itself. There have been certain areas of the country that have already increased
fast food workers minimum wage, but the debate is would it work elsewhere. With the increase in the
demand from fast food workers for a minimum wage increase it has spurred on a heated debate what
the outcome would be with many believing that it would devastate the fast food workforce with a
large increase in workforce reduction enabling the fast food industry to keep it s ever growing profit
margin. However, there are those that would disagree with that assessment. The problem that is seen is
that both sides of this issue forget to take a step back and look at the whole picture like the smaller
group of economists have that understand that there is positive and negatives to the fast food industry
minimum wage increase. Also, with a look at the bigger picture it can be seen that with the minimum
wage increase in fast food jobs is farther reaching than just the fast food industry. It will unavoidably
affect many other industries across the U.S. with a demand for a nationwide federal minimum wage
increase as the fast food industry has laid the ground work for the how to guide for adjusting to a wage

Sir Ernest Shackleton´s Survival in the Antarctic Essay...
For an exemplary leader, what is one of the highest compliments that you could ever receive? Sir
Ernest Shackleton was a British explorer who after failing to reach the Southern Pole first wanted to
be the first to ever accomplish a trans Antarctic expedition. On October 27th, 1915 Shackleton s boat
the Endurance was crushed by the pressure of the melting Antarctic ice; leaving Shackleton and his
crew stranded in the Antarctic. On August 30th, 1916 after a treacherous one and a half years of living
in the Antarctic and surrounding islands, Shackleton and his crew were rescued following an
unimaginable story of survival. The qualities of leadership Shackleton exhibited that resulted in the
survival of him and his crew were, having certain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By putting the needs of the crew ahead of his own, Shackleton acquired a level of respect and trust not
convivial by an egocentric leader. To be an obsessive person, one must have a certain subject
constantly on one s mind or routines must be followed correctly and/or on time. The benefit for the
Endurance s crew to have an obsessive man as Shackleton was that he was ready for the unexpected,
and his crew s safety was the utmost important topic for him. With Shackleton s obsessive nature, he
made a very specific routine for the men to follow; at exactly 9:00 am, breakfast was served, at 1:00
pm, lunch was served, at 4:00 pm, tea was served, and at 6:00 pm, dinner was served. Between the
meals, the men did chores such as, cleaning the ship and melting ice for drinking water. Such a precise
and stringent following of a routine gave the men purpose and managed to keep the men from going
stir crazy. The crew s safety was on Shackleton s mind from the moment everyone abandoned the
Endurance. Shackleton stopped all unnecessary activities that posed a risk to crew safety; for example,
he stopped Macklin and Greenstreet from paddling on an ice floe like children on a raft. Shackleton
also commenced unpredicted safety drills for cracking of their ice floe which could happen at any
moment. Shackleton often didn t sleep due to the fact that he worried about all the dangerous and
potentially fatal situations that he and his crew

An Example About Prostate Cancer
If we take a look at an example about prostate cancer, with the data collected by Hastie, Tibshirani,
Friedman in The Elements of Statistical Learning [2] and view the scatterplot in figure 1.1, we can see
that the dependent variable, the log of the prostate specific antigen (lpsa) has a strong positive
correlation particularly with lcavol (the log cancer volume) and lcp (the log of capsular penetration)
with weaker but still strong correlations with the other dependent variables, log prostate weight
(lweight), age, log of the amount of benign prostatic hyperplasia (lbph), and percent of Gleason scores
4 or 5 (pgg45), but not the svi (seminal vesicle invasion) and gleason (gleason score) as these are
categorical variables [2]. Below figures 1.2 and 1.3 were fit with all variables and figures 1.4 and 1.5
were simplified by removing variables that had high p values until I felt that the model was better
improved and they were fit thereafter. When we plot the fitted values against the residuals, if there is
linearity, we should get an even spread around the line at 0. If we look at figures 1.2 and 1.4, for
which the R coding can be found in the appendix below (section 7), we can see that they both seem to
have linearity with figure 1.2 having possible outliers further away from the line and figure 1.4 having
a more even spread. Taking a look at figure 1.3 we can see that there is a particularly good fit along
the middle but the tails have fairly large variation, suggesting a

Direct Democracy In Ancient Greek City
Direct democracy derives its power from citizens debating and voting directly on all laws and policies.
Ancient Greek City State portrayed direct democracy by allowing the legislature to be made up of all
the citizens. To add, women, foreigners, and slaves were excluded because they weren t citizens.
Furthermore, participation is key, concluding that direct democracy is carried out most easily in small
political communities. Due to spread of democratic policies, representative democracy was
established. It s defined as a form of government in which citizens elect a representative to take charge
of all laws and policies. Elections are held for government officials, universal suffrage allows all
adults to take action and vote for their representative.

Thesis Statement On Standardised Testing
Standardised Testing
Thesis
Standardised testing is something every high school student has to go through as it is a crucial and
stressful part of the college application process. During their junior year, high school student s stress
levels increase as they have to take both the SATs/ACTs and AP tests. The SAT was introduced in
1926 and since then it has slowly become more integrated into the standard procedure in order to get
into a university. The AP is an understandable test as it tests students on what they studies in class; the
SAT on the other hand requires students to do all the learning and studying on their own time. Some
students may even pay hundreds of dollars on the test prep books and classes on top of the already

One source suggests that they have been tax exempt since 2003, but it is not clear if they still are.
What is being done now?
According to FairTest.org, there are over 900 universities in the US, out of about 4,000, that don t
require SAT or ACT scores.
The University of New Hampshire stopped accepting standardised test scores altogether; the president
of the university commented that after doing so the quantity of applications went down, but the quality
went up as they found that the applicants collectively were more mature and motivated mainly
because the application process became harder with the increased focus on essay submission.
There has been an SAT optional movement in which many liberal arts colleges in the US decided not
to require SAT or ACT scores as they thought it had outlived its usefulness.
The former president of Sarah Lawrence College stated that We are a writing intensive school, and the
information produced by SAT scores added little to our ability to predict how a student would do at
our college; it did, however, do much to bias admission in favor of those who could afford expensive

criteria of a hero.
You Only Live Twice directed by Lewis Gilbert and Casino Royale directed by Martin Campbell show
the character of James Bond to have the characteristics that make up a hero. It is questionable
throughout both texts if James Bond is actually a hero. During both texts Bond foils plans that would
cause havoc for regular civilians, for example, in You Only Live Twice Bond stops a plan to start

Why Is It Important To Block Stitches
Blocking and Care of Hand Knits
Blocking is an important, and often overlooked step in knitting. Besides setting the size and shape of a
pattern, blocking also enhances slightly uneven stitches, brings lace stitch patterns to their full
potential, straightens, evens out edge stitches for easy and nicer looking seaming and will also
straighten stranded colorwork. Blocking is easy to do and requires minimal supplies to get the job
done. Fibers react differently to blocking and it is good to consider what kind or project you are
knitting to pick the proper fiber that will look its best, and which type of blocking works best with
your fiber and project. Blocking the gauge swatch will give you the look and feel of your completed
project. Blocking is the final step to any handknit. It will shape and size your project in its permanent
size. When knitting lace pieces blocking is just as important as the knitting, it completely transforms
the work opening the lace stitches to reveal their true beauty. In the same way blocking opens the lace
patterns, it will also even out any stitches that may be slightly ... Show more content on

My Experience In Learning A Foreign Language
Language as a subject is something we never give much thought to in our everyday lives, yet we use it
every single day as a way of communicating with others. We use it consistently throughout our day,
such as when we gossip to a close friend or even when we gesture at one of the food menus when
ordering in a fast food restaurant. According to the New Oxford American
Dictionary, language is the method of human communication, either spoken or written consisting of
the use of words in a structured and conventional way. It also includes nonverbal methods of
expression or communication, such as using facial expressions or sign language. Language involves
the ability to comprehend spoken and written words to create something meaningful when we speak or

Teen Specific Laws Essay
Whether or not there should be teen specific laws is a controversial topic. Some people may argue that
there should be teen specific laws, specifically adults, but those adults don t listen to reason. Former
animator, entrepreneur, TV producer, and film producer, Walt Disney says, Too many people grow up.
They forget. They don t remember what it s like to be 12 years old. They patronize, they treat children
as inferiors. Children and teens are human beings just like everyone else is; therefore, teens learn to do
things as all human beings do. Teens can only learn to make good decisions by making them, not by
following directions. It is obvious that teen specific laws are not necessary.
Teen specific laws are unnecessary, they cause an abundance of new and unnecessary problems. An
example of unnecessary laws would be curfew laws. Curfew laws don t do anything but create more
complications. According to the article, Youth Curfews Popular with American Cities but
Effectiveness and Legality Are Questioned, by USA editor, Tony Favro, Juvenile arrests increase
significantly in most cities with curfews. Do people really want to fix one itsy bitsy problem even if it
means a bunch more problems will appear? Although these laws were originally created to benefit the
society as a whole, one may never know how a teen would respond to the laws. Moreover, these
unnecessary laws may cause teens to act out. According to Dr. Epstein, Infantilization, or treating

The Creation Of Israel By John F. Kennedy

The Creation of Israel Israel was not created in order to disappear Israel will endure and flourish. It is
the child of hope and the home of the brave. It can neither be broken by adversity nor demoralized by

Kennedy s thoughts and opinions upon the creation of Israel. In the time leading up to the creation of
Israel, the Jews had endured much suffering through the terrible acts of the Holocaust. Jews have
proven to rise from the despair and the suffering that they had to endure and they ultimately created
something stupendous: their own country. There have been many obstacles in the way for the Jews to

Bowman Strategy
1.0 Introduction Strategy is a long term directions for companies. Bennett (1996, cited by Cousins
2000) describes strategy as: The word strategy is used to describe the direction that the organisation
chooses to follow in order to fulfil its mission . Today, strategies are vital for businesses, in many
cases it helps to achieve a competitive advantage. Increasing competition in most sectors and
technological development has led to accelerated changes in the global economy. In order to meet the
market needs, strategies encourage and enable the adaptation of companies in a changing environment
(Tribe, 2010). The aim of the report is to conduct a research on Bowman s Strategy Clock which will

positions are that the only way to succeed here is through cost effectively selling quantity, and by

but they may be able to sustain themselves as long as they stay one step ahead of the consumer
(Mindtools, 2012) 2.2.2 Differentiation Strategies From number 3 through number 5 (hybrid,
differentiation and focused differentiation) are companies that are offering a customised product or
service. The service or product is designed separately for each individual customer, and therefore
customers are prepared to pay a price premium for that. The examples given is British Airways whose
goal is to present better quality service to its customers, stakeholders and employees alike (British
Airways, 2010). A lot of companies in hospitality industry (such as 3 to 5 star hotels) would not try to
compete on price; they would try to position themselves near position 4 or 5 on the model by offering
something better, or improve a service. However in order to choose focused differentiation as strategy,
businesses need to have a strong branding to make sure their customers are willing to pay a higher

the likelihood of fraud occurring if the evidence had not been obtained. Material evidence provides

Asking for permission during the audit engagement makes the evidence admissible, however, denials

Essay about Christianity and Popular Culture
Christianity and Popular Culture
In his classic work Christ and Culture, H. Richard Niebuhr asserts that the relationship between
earnest followers of Jesus Christ and human culture has been an enduring problem. 1 How should
believers who are disciplining themselves for the purpose of godliness (1 Tim. 4:7) relate to a world
whose culture is dominated by the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the boastful pride of life (1
John 2: 16)? Culture is God s gift and task for human beings created in His image and likeness. At
creation humanity received a cultural mandate from the sovereign Creator to have dominion over the
earth and to cultivate and keep it (Gen. 1:26, 28; 2:15). But sin s effects are total, and ... Show more

The first group promotes Christ but tends to denigrate culture, while the second group promotes
culture but tends to denigrate Christ. Both are unbalanced and are corrected by Churches of the Center
that seek to do justice to both Christ and culture, though they articulate the relationship between them
in different ways.
Roman Catholics tend to view the gospel as the completion of culture. Despite positive contributions,
human cultural enterprises always fall short of divine intentions and must be fulfilled by God s
gracious work of redemption in Christ and through the Church. Grace, according to this tradition,
perfects nature. Christ is above culture and completes it.
Lutherans, on the other hand, prefer to emphasize how the gospel creates remarkable tensions with
culture. Christians are citizens of two kingdoms God s and the world s and faithfully fulfilling
responsibilities to both realms creates enormous, if not impossible, challenges. How difficult it is to
render simultaneously the things that are Caesar s and the things that are God s! Christ and culture
stand in a relation of paradox.
Finally, those who adhere to the Reformed tradition have enthusiastically promoted a vision of the
transformation of culture. According to this viewpoint, the various cultural and social structures in this
life can be renewed in Christ. No aspect of reality is alien

Essay On Biological Sex
Issue in Texas: Gender Identify vs Biological Sex The Bathroom Bill
There s an ongoing battle in the State of Texas over who should be allowed to use public restrooms.
Specifically, which restrooms should transgenders use. There s strong opposition to legislation
regulating bathroom use. Many Texans argue we should all use restrooms based on our biological sex
(sex as stated on our birth certificates) but there is strong opposition arguing we should be able to use
restrooms based on our Gender Identity (what sex one identifies themselves as). Those against
transgenders using the wrong restroom suggest it is potentially putting other users at risk of
encountering a sexual predator. While many are arguing if a person identifies as a ... Show more

Senate Bill No. 6 states that a person must use the restroom associated with their biological sex, not
the restroom that conforms to the persons gender identity. Senate Bill No. 6 was designed to protect
people using public restrooms or changing rooms. The bill would apply to places that are available to
the public, or any institution receiving aid from the government. It does not apply to private
businesses, schools etc. In a public setting, a transgender would still be able to use the bathroom they
prefer, but only if they get their sex changed on their birth certificate. The bill would not affect big
convention centers, stadiums, or other entertainment venues if they re not public facilities. If a private
association leases out one of their venues to a non governmental agency, then the bill would not apply
to them. Public entities choosing to not regulate bathroom policies to fit Senate Bill No. 6 could be
fined from $1,000 $10,500 (Ryan). In Senate Bill No. 6 it says that if a school district, state funded
program or political subdivision are not enforcing the bathroom policy, a citizen may file a complaint
to the Attorney General (Kolkhorst). First the individual must complain to the organization that is
violating Senate Bill No.6, if the institute does not address the issue within three business days, then
you may file your complaint with the Attorney General. Senate Bill No. 6 creates

Themes Of A Yellow Raft In Blue Water
In the book, A Yellow Raft in Blue Water, written by Michael Dorris, the story is told by three
different narrators at three different points in time. Rayona, a half black, half Native American teen,
Christine, the mother of Rayona, and Aunt Ida, who poses as Christine s mom but actually in reality, is
Christine s half sister. Throughout the book, there are many references towards the book s themes and
are examined and highlighted throughout the book. Family and finding your true identity are the main
themes in this book because throughout the book, Rayona s past remains a mystery to her all because
of her mother and grand mother and she is willingly desperate to find a family or other people that will

The color yellow appears most at Bearpaw Lake State Park, where a yellow raft is in blue water.
Rayona feels the yellow boat as an escape from reality and feels peaceful whenever she s on it. This is
because of Ellen DeMarco. When Rayona sees Ellen for the first time, Rayona admires her because
she assumes that Ellen has a perfect life that Rayona dreams and imagines of having, even when Ellen
gets off and on the yellow raft. The yellow raft is so precious to Rayona that the yellow raft
symbolizes the life that Rayona is desperate for, but she cannot and most likely will never have. In
Christine s section, she challenged herself to cross a naturally built yellow stone bridge while she was
growing up. Unfortunately, she never was able to cross the bridge by herself and failed every time she
attempted to do so. However, Lee, posing as Christine s sister to Christine, he helps her out crossing
the bridge and achieving the goal she set for herself. From this point on, the story of her constant
failure on her own eventually leads her to a reckless and careless

As I Lay Dying Narrators
How many books have you read that have 15 narrators? Any? As I Lay Dying is a book written by
William Faulkner. The book is written in the perspective of 15 different people. The story revolves
around the Bundren family. The mother Addie dies early in the book, and she had requested to be
buried beside her parents in Jefferson. As I Lay Dying is about the journey the family takes to carry
out their mother s final wish. Throughout the book, we learn about the family through the obstacles
they must overcome. Faulkner uses 15 narrators to show different point of views, character s thoughts,
and their personalities.
By using 15 narrators, Faulkner allows the reader to see events from different points of view. This
style of writing also causes the order of events to be displaced. For example, we learned about the
Gillespie s barn fire. Then, later we find the barn was set on fire by Darl. Darl believed he had good
reasoning behind burning the barn. On the other hand, Cash said But I ... Show more content on

After Addie dies, Vardaman says, But Jewel s mother is a horse. My mother is a fish... My mother is
not in a box. My mother does not smell like that. My mother is a fish (187). This quote shows his
frame of mind. In this case, it leads the reader to believe Vardaman does not fully grasp the situation
or that his mental state is not great. Later in the story, Dewey Dell and Anse have a conversation. Anse
said, I have fed you and sheltered you. I give you love and care, yet my own daughter, the daughter of
my dead wife, calls me a thief over her mother s grave (245, 246). In this quote, Anse talks about how
much he has done for the family. Anse sees himself as the reason his kids have any good in their lives.
However, throughout the book we learn Anse is lazy and wants people to get the job done for him.
Using a multitude of narrators gives us a deeper look into who the characters really

Just come off of a fifteen day cycle of being the mission platoon, where we would go outside the wire;
two to three missions in a twenty four hour period. One mission alone requires much involvement

My point is that motivation to keep going can be hard. There are times when one must sit back and

Cuban Revolution Source Analysis
After analysing all of the source s mentioned above, it is evident that all three authors have very
diverse perspectives on the Cuban Revolution. Whilst it may seem to Source A s audience that the
author (Alistair Cooke) is simply trying to inform the American public of Castro s leadership after
examination, it seems as though they are trying to brainwash readers into rebelling against Castro.
Thus, the Source is considered anti Castro. Comparatively, in Source B, Herbert L. Matthews reports
on an exclusive interview with Castro s best lieutenants, Major Che Guevara to present the audience
an anecdote which portrays a strong sense of patriotism, pride and authority which are all factors that
present the audience with Matthews pro Castro perspective. Additionally, Source C s perspective is
also in Castro s favour as the Source is secondary and means that the author could see the context of
the situation without being restricted by any element of bias. Meaning that, he was able to see all the

Re Astor s Settlement Case Summary
The essence of a trust lies in the principle that a settlor appoints a trustee, who then holds onto a
property for a beneficiary. The trustee has power of the property but also duties to perform as a part of
their role. The beneficiary is the ultimate owner and has all the associated rights to the property. The
beneficiary principle states that in every non charitable trust there must be ascertainable beneficiaries.
This means that there must be an actual human to which the court can decide in favour of. This rests
on two propositions, firstly, a trust that cannot be enforced must fail. This view is widely accepted.
The second view is that only beneficiaries can enforce trusts and this view is less accepted, as it is
believed that beneficiaries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rule is that one must be able to determine that before the end of the perpetuity period, that the
trust will definitely come to an end. The perpetuity period defined as the age of the life in question,
plus 21 years. However, the problem with private purpose trusts is that they often don t have an
ascertainable beneficiary, and so where this is the case, the court will define it as the twenty one years.
The perpetuity principle can be problematic in that where there is no named beneficiary, or where the
trust is for the purpose of maintaining monuments as in the case of Re Hooper. However, in Re
Hooper, the settlor had stated that the trustees were to carry out the purpose as far as was legally
possible and this was found to be saving words, meaning that the trust was upheld and in line with the
perpetuity principle. However, in the absence of such saving words, all trusts will fail. In
Musset.v.Bingle there was no perpetuity period stated for the upkeep of the monument and it failed on
that part, but was upheld on the actual erection of the monument, as it was assumed that the
monument would be completed within 21

Septic Tank Essay
If you just purchased your first house with a septic tank, you need to learn how to take care of your
septic tank. Here are five things that you need to know as a new septic tank owner. Test Inspect Your
Tank On A Yearly Basis You need to have your tank tested on a yearly basis by a licensed
professional. When they test your tank, they can let you know how full your tank is and if all the
waste is breaking up properly. This is the best way to learn if sludge is building up inside your tank or
if it needs pumped. You should also make sure that the professional you hire to inspect your tank also
looks checks out everything up top, including the motor, timer, pump, compressor, baffles and alarm.
This is the easiest ways to spot problems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You should not plan trees or large bushes that have deep root systems near your septic tank. The roots
may grow into the septic tank, and may even try to get into the septic tank as a source of water. The
only things that you should plant above your septic tanks are grass and flowers. Both grass and
flowers have shallow root systems that will not interfere with your septic tank. Additionally, you
shouldn t compress the soil above your septic tank too much. It is probably not the best spot to put a
swing set or your patio furniture. Ideally, your septic tank will be located in an area of your yard or
property that you don t walk on or use extensively. It Matters What You Put Down Your Drain Finally,
you need to pay attention to what you allow to go down your drain. There are many things that will
not mix well with your septic tank. To start with, you don t want to put any harsh chemicals down
your drains, such as insecticides, paint thinner or gasoline. All three of these substances will kill the
bacteria that live inside of your septic tank and break down the waste products inside of

Epic Theatre Essay
Acting unit
September December 2016
Edmund Richmond price
Introduction
Within this final log I shall explain the two contrasting styles of theatre that were covered within the
lesson i.e. naturalism and physical theatre, include examples of exercises that were covered in the
lessons with examples of my notes and follow up with a conclusion and evaluation.
Attributes of Brechtian epic theatre
Firstly when watching a Brechtian piece the most apparent is that there is no offstage. When a
character no longer needs to be relevant the actor must instead simply blend into the background an
example of this in a production of the threepenny opera is that a beggar after talking to Mr Peacham
the beggar picks up a broom, the scene changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most physical theatre is devised in origin (the script is formed during a rehearsal), makes use of
music, dance and visual artistry as well as theatre.
The main aim of physical theatre is to challenge the proscenium arch thus breaking the 4th wall and
encourage the audience to participate so as to include the audience in the action with the end goal of
catharsis i.e. the 2 way transferal of emotion between audience and actor/actress
Modern physical theatre has been influenced most of all by mime and contemporary dance.
Physical theatre was started when a student by the name of jean louis barrault who rejected the notion
that mime should be silent, in doing so opening up many new possibilities and thus physical theatre
was born.
Simplistically physical theatre is a style of theatre that focuses more on movement than dialogue that
puts the human body at the centre of the process of storytelling e.g. if there is a building or monument
the actors will become that building or monument, physical theatre tends to also divide into 2
subgenres, either minimalism in which the set is rather basic and is more heavily reliant on the actors,
or baroque in which there is much lighting, special effects and high intensity drama.

Symbolism Of Childhood In Peter Pan And Wizard Of Oz
Childhood is the kingdom where nobody dies , a quote from Edna St. Vincent Millay. Both Peter Pan
and Wizard of Oz, use childhood to promote The Golden Age . According to Marriam Webster.com,
this term is described as, a period of great happiness, prosperity, and achievement. But the golden age
is also defined as a period where authors discovered that children were more than innocent angels and
that their childhoods are important, joyous, and unique. Both authors, Barrie and Baum show this
throughout their novels. Barrie uses imagination and a fear of growing up while, Baum uses irony and
a powerful symbol of home.
In the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Baum introduces the main character, Dorothy. She is a 16 year old girl
that lives in Kanas with her aunt and uncle. She gets very little attention and has only one friend: her
dog Toto. Dorothy is described as a child and stays a child throughout the entire book, even when
facing some difficult tasks. This is a different idea than some of the other Golden Age texts such as
Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan.
One of the most famous quotes from the novel is, there is no place like home. (Baum, chapter 4) with
Dorothy walking just three steps in her silver shoes. This is just one example of a quote that hints at
her age and innocence. When children are upset, we often hear them say, I want to go home . Home
has always been a place of comfort and security. Dorothy s home doesn t resemble these
characteristics when she

When Silverstein first began his career in the arts he did not have many influences. His tour of duty however is said to have influenced his dark worldview. The music he wrote was a big influence in the poems he wrote and they were often directly connected. It wasn t until 1963 that Silverstein actually began writing things for children. Before this he viewed children literature as too sweet and condescending with nothing but happy storylines. He was finally convinced to start writing children s literature after he met a book editor named Ursual Nordstrom who told him he should just change the things about children s literature that he did not like. And that is just what he did; he reversed the idiotic stories into more realistic portrayals of human life. At first many people did not approve of his writings. They thought his stories were too inappropriate for children but also too simple for adults. He ended up bridging children s literature with adult literature. One of his biggest influences for writing children books and poems was that he just didn t like that children literature that was out there and wanted to see ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Mettais: 152 156) The second noted influence on the New Classical period was the excavations of Herculaneum and Pompeii and the paintings, sculptures and jewellery that were brought forth from these sites. These mines of wealth motivated an interest in Greco Roman art, which is the mark of Neoclassicism. Within the recovered works, people saw a physical perfection and moral health which was a dominant theme of the Enlightenment. New perceptions of society based in the Athesian commonwealth and the Roman republic was beginning to form, and later these themes became symbols of freedom and democracy (the basis of Romanticism). The artistic assumption of the time was the idea that, one must raise beauty over morality and that beauty lies in shape and contour, not in colour, which only assisted beauty. This principle simplified the Neo Classical forms. (Praz: 70, 71) 2.2. The Academy The first academy was started by Leonardo da Vinci in 1498. Forests in the Yucatan are affected differently by many different types of forest disturbances, especially anthropogenic and natural disturbances like hurricanes which occur frequently (Boose et. al. 2003). The Yucatan forests also have calm topographical conditions, which provides clearer relationships between forest structure and composition, and hurricane intensity and severity. Forest composition is commonly measured by species composition (number of species) in a given region (Cook 2001). With forest structure, you have a wider range of variables to test the spatial arrangement and physical characteristics of the trees in a given forest. The spatial arrangement or density in a forest includes measurements such as basal area, which is the ratio of the area of tree stems compared to the total area of a stand, and number of stems per hectare. Physical characteristics of trees include diameter at breast height and canopy height (Cook 2001; McGroddy et al. 2013). This paper analyzes information regarding how these conditions change with the varying wind speeds and paths of different hurricanes that have passed over the Yucatan. Wind speeds are the hurricane component that affects forest composition and structure the most significantly (McGroddy et. al. 2013). While forest composition in the Yucatan is largely unaffected by hurricanes, forest structural components such as basal area and canopy height are significantly changed. Forests in the Yucatan region are conditioned and resilient to hurricanes, which affect them less significantly than forest fires and anthropogenic land use ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay On Minimum Wage The Economic Effect of a Minimum Wage Increase in the Fast Food Industry A question plaguing economists in the news the last couple of years is what would the effect of an increase in the fast food industry minimum wage be for the workforce. Better yet, how would it effect the fast food industry itself. There have been certain areas of the country that have already increased fast food workers minimum wage, but the debate is would it work elsewhere. • 13. Sir Ernest Shackleton´s Survival in the Antarctic Essay... For an exemplary leader, what is one of the highest compliments that you could ever receive? Sir Ernest Shackleton was a British explorer who after failing to reach the Southern Pole first wanted to be the first to ever accomplish a trans Antarctic expedition. On October 27th, 1915 Shackleton s boat the Endurance was crushed by the pressure of the melting Antarctic ice; leaving Shackleton and his crew stranded in the Antarctic. On August 30th, 1916 after a treacherous one and a half years of living in the Antarctic and surrounding islands, Shackleton and his crew were rescued following an unimaginable story of survival. To be an obsessive person, one must have a certain subject constantly on one s mind or routines must be followed correctly and/or on time. The benefit for the Endurance s crew to have an obsessive man as Shackleton was that he was ready for the unexpected, and his crew s safety was the utmost important topic for him. With Shackleton s obsessive nature, he made a very specific routine for the men to follow; at exactly 9:00 am, breakfast was served, at 1:00 pm, lunch was served, at 4:00 pm, tea was served, and at 6:00 pm, dinner was served. Between the meals, the men did chores such as, cleaning the ship and melting ice for drinking water. Such a precise and stringent following of a routine gave the men purpose and managed to keep the men from going stir crazy. The crew s safety was on Shackleton s mind from the moment everyone abandoned the Endurance. Shackleton stopped all unnecessary activities that posed a risk to crew safety; for example, he stopped Macklin and Greenstreet from paddling on an ice floe like children on a raft. Shackleton also commenced unpredicted safety drills for cracking of their ice floe which could happen at any moment. An Example About Prostate Cancer If we take a look at an example about prostate cancer, with the data collected by Hastie, Tibshirani, Friedman in The Elements of Statistical Learning [2] and view the scatterplot in figure 1.1, we can see that the dependent variable, the log of the prostate specific antigen (lpsa) has a strong positive correlation particularly with lcavol (the log cancer volume) and lcp (the log of capsular penetration) with weaker but still strong correlations with the other dependent variables, log prostate weight (lweight), age, log of the amount of benign prostatic hyperplasia (lbph), and percent of Gleason scores 4 or 5 (pgg45), but not the svi (seminal vesicle invasion) and gleason (gleason score) as these are categorical variables [2]. Below figures 1.2 and 1.3 were fit with all variables and figures 1.4 and 1.5 were simplified by removing variables that had high p values until I felt that the model was better improved and they were fit thereafter. When we plot the fitted values against the residuals, if there is linearity, we should get an even spread around the line at 0. If we look at figures 1.2 and 1.4, for which the R coding can be found in the appendix below (section 7), we can see that they both seem to have linearity with figure 1.2 having possible outliers further away from the line and figure 1.4 having a more even spread. Besides setting the size and shape of a pattern, blocking also enhances slightly uneven stitches, brings lace stitch patterns to their full potential, straightens, evens out edge stitches for easy and nicer looking seaming and will also straighten stranded colorwork. These are John F. Kennedy s thoughts and opinions upon the creation of Israel. Jews have proven to rise from the despair and the suffering that they had to endure and they ultimately created something stupendous: their own country. There have been many obstacles in the way for the Jews to do this, the biggest being the Arab Palestinians. The Arab Palestinians objected to the Arab Jews forming a nation and if it were not for the help of the United States, Israel would have never been able to overrule the power of the Arab Palestinians and take over the land for themselves. With tremendous support from the United States, the creation of Israel exemplifies the joyous and magnificent accomplishment that not only Arab Jews accomplished, but all Jews. However, in Re Hooper, the settlor had stated that the trustees were to carry out the purpose as far as was legally possible and this was found to be saving words, meaning that the trust was upheld and in line with the perpetuity principle. However, in the absence of such saving words, all trusts will fail. In Musset.v.Bingle there was no perpetuity period stated for the upkeep of the monument and it failed on that part, but was upheld on the actual erection of the monument, as it was assumed that the monument would be completed within 21 ... The roots may grow into the septic tank, and may even try to get into the septic tank as a source of water. The only things that you should plant above your septic tanks are grass and flowers. Both grass and flowers have shallow root systems that will not interfere with your septic tank. Additionally, you shouldn t compress the soil above your septic tank too much. It is probably not the best spot to put a swing set or your patio furniture. Ideally, your septic tank will be located in an area of your yard or property that you don t walk on or use extensively. • 34. Epic Theatre Essay Acting unit September December 2016 Edmund Richmond price Introduction Within this final log I shall explain the two contrasting styles of theatre that were covered within the lesson i.e. naturalism and physical theatre, include examples of exercises that were covered in the lessons with examples of my notes and follow up with a conclusion and evaluation. Attributes of Brechtian epic theatre Firstly when watching a Brechtian piece the most apparent is that there is no offstage. When a character no longer needs to be relevant the actor must instead simply blend into the background an example of this in a production of the threepenny opera is that a beggar after talking to Mr Peacham the beggar picks up a broom, the scene changes ... The main aim of physical theatre is to challenge the proscenium arch thus breaking the 4th wall and encourage the audience to participate so as to include the audience in the action with the end goal of catharsis i.e. the 2 way transferal of emotion between audience and actor/actress Modern physical theatre has been influenced most of all by mime and contemporary dance. Physical theatre was started when a student by the name of jean louis barrault who rejected the notion that mime should be silent, in doing so opening up many new possibilities and thus physical theatre was born. Simplistically physical theatre is a style of theatre that focuses more on movement than dialogue that puts the human body at the centre of the process of storytelling e.g. if there is a building or monument the actors will become that building or monument, physical theatre tends to also divide into 2 subgenres, either minimalism in which the set is rather basic and is more heavily reliant on the actors, or baroque in which there is much lighting, special effects and high intensity drama. • 35. Symbolism Of Childhood In Peter Pan And Wizard Of Oz Childhood is the kingdom where nobody dies , a quote from Edna St. Vincent Millay. Both Peter Pan and Wizard of Oz, use childhood to promote The Golden Age . According to Marriam Webster.com, this term is described as, a period of great happiness, prosperity, and achievement. But the golden age is also defined as a period where authors discovered that children were more than innocent angels and that their childhoods are important, joyous, and unique. Both authors, Barrie and Baum show this throughout their novels. Barrie uses imagination and a fear of growing up while, Baum uses irony and a powerful symbol of home. In the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Baum introduces the main character, Dorothy. She is a 16 year old girl that lives in Kanas with her aunt and uncle. She gets very little attention and has only one friend: her dog Toto. Dorothy is described as a child and stays a child throughout the entire book, even when facing some difficult tasks. This is a different idea than some of the other Golden Age texts such as Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan. One of the most famous quotes from the novel is, there is no place like home. (Baum, chapter 4) with Dorothy walking just three steps in her silver shoes. This is just one example of a quote that hints at her age and innocence. When children are upset, we often hear them say, I want to go home . Home has always been a place of comfort and security. Dorothy s home doesn t resemble these characteristics when she ... One way they showed details were by describing the conversation of the sports analysts Dick Vitale and John Saunders, who were calling the game. Dick Vitale said that if Princeton won, he would hitchhike from ESPN s offices in Bristol, Conn., to Providence and lead the Tigers cheerleaders for the second round game (Gregory and Wolff). This was a While comparing the two teams, Gregory and Wolff say: The teams also had contrasting styles. The Hoyas pushed the tempo and pressured the ball full court.
