Enrique s Journey; Lourdes s View
It is a warm day in Tegucigalpa, the sun peeking through the cracks of the beat down building Lourdes
calls home. But today begins a new chapter of her life, a life in the United States. It is January 29,
1989. Lourdes is a divorced single mother of two. She works hard to provide an income for her family,
but it is not enough to purchase education and food for her kids. Like countless other women in the
same situation, she decides that she will go to America and make money to send home to her children.
Although she plans to leave for only a year, she will not return. She is overwhelmed with guilt and
sadness as she says goodbye to her two children. She hugs her ... Show more content on

Essay On Political Polarization
Political Media organizations are obligated to sufficiently inform the American public about both
global and domestic political issues. News corporations are failing to completely deliver on that
obligation as a result of increasing political polarization and decreasing quality of content fueled by
social media. In order to deliver the American people with unbiased facts about our government, there
needs to be a reduction in the partisanship of news outlets.
People, politics, and the channel of communication between the two all have suffered from increasing
political polarization. Polarization of news channels stems from the emphasis on entertaining viewers.
Most major news organizations foster either a left or right leaning bias displayed through talk show
hosts, guest speakers, or published content. As a result, the viewership of news networks is very
politically divided. People who follow political coverage through any outlet are more inclined to
believe stories that align with their personal views. In contrast, people are more likely to discredit
stories that conflict with their personal beliefs. Business Insider published a statistic from a study that
noted, Both CNN and Fox News are among the most trusted news networks; it found 88% of its
conservative participants trusted Fox News, while only 14% of the same group trusted CNN . ... Show

Instead, the focus is on keeping viewers entertained and excited. The rise of political content through
social media has occurred through our last three elections and will continue to do so until Americans
become more vigilant in their skepticism of where content originates from. Political polarization has
enabled biased opinions and a stubbornness to change. A decrease in biased coverage from major
news organizations would create an opportunity for a more informed citizen and a less polarized

Ethics And Principles Of Ethics
Ethics is a system basic moral principals and concepts of civilized human conduct. it helps us develop
ideas about what is moral, right from wrong and dictates of conscience. Ethics also helps to
distinguish between honest and dishonest characteristics in people. In business, ethics is something
that is essential to one s moral compass. It is something that is taught through the child rearing process
and into a child s formative years. Ethics requires knowledge. Fundamentally this suggests that
learning is required for one to have develop their own set of ethics, be it good or bad.
Through out the formative years or, child rearing process, parents promote and support their children
from infancy to adulthood. This suggests, they teach their own personal ethics to the children they
rear. According to the philosopher Socrates, ethics can be taught. He argues that, ethics consists of
what we ought to do, and such knowledge can be taught . As children s minds develop, they learn
obedience to the law of land from their parents, teachers, and authority figures in their life. However,
they only act in terms of these authority figures. Psychologist Lawrence Kohlberg established the idea
that the ability of moral thinking does not form simultaneously. It develops in children in stages, the
same way there are stages of growth and physical development. According to Kholberg, there are
three levels of moral development: pre conventional morality, conventional morality, and

Catcher In The Rye Controversy
A Teen s Voice: The Authenticity of Catcher in the Rye Young adult books are hot in the writing world
and are the new trend of what people want to read. Teens and adults alike are drawn to characters like
Katniss Everdeen, Hazel Grace, and Jacob Portman; they seem real, they become dear to us. Before
this trend started, however, many people did not write for a young adult reader. J.D. Salinger, on the
other hand, wrote a very popular book for young adults called The Catcher in the Rye. Salinger wrote
this book in 1951 way before the new young adult book writing craze. Many people are now saying
that the main character of The Catcher in the Rye, Holden, is outdated. Can young adults not relate

anything to himself he says, I felt so lonesome all of a sudden, I almost wished I was dead (48).
Holden was just sitting in a quiet room thinking at this point. He doesn t just say this to get sympathy.
Holden says this because this is actually how he felt at that moment. The reader also finds out the
emotional truth at the end of the book when Holden shares that he is in a rest home. When Holden
says, this one psychoanalyst guy they have here, keeps asking me if I m going apply myself when I go
back to school next September (114) it opens up the eyes to the reader that Holden was telling the
story the whole time to someone in the rest home. This is what many teens go to when they are

Nature In The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner describes an unnatural voyage. This voyage itself is metaphorical of
a shift from the natural to the unnatural. The beginning of the voyage details a normal trip with the
weather being beneficial to the mariners. However, after a storm blows all of the mariners to the
Antarctic, nature starts to revolt. This shift is used as a literary device to both further the narrative and
to communicate the change in tone. Coleridge uses the shift in nature as a means to describe the
ancient mariner s punishment. The first instance of nature the Ancient Mariner describes is when the
ship sets sail. As described by the Mariner, all is normal: The ship was cheered, the harbor cleared
Merrily did we drop (6). Nature is normal; there is no mention of unnatural seas ... Show more content

The albatross takes on the nature of a benevolent being helping the Mariner escape from the torment
of nature. However, the Ancient Mariner does not recognize this and instead shoots the albatross (7).
With the death of the albatross, nature does not hold back on the mariner, two figures play for his fate
(11). The first figure is Death, the other one wins the Mariner s fate: The Nightmare Life in Death was
she Who thicks man s blood with cold The naked hulk alongside came, and twain were casting dice;
The game is done! I ve won! I ve won! Quoth she, and whistles thrice. (11). Thus, Life in Death seals
the fate of the Mariner by winning his soul, and forcing him to live out horrible apparitions. The first
of which is watching each and every sailor die (12). Nature does this as a means to single out the
Ancient Mariner, since he is given a worse fate. Thus, by capturing the Ancient Mariner, nature helps
push the events of the rime, while meting out punishment to those who violate her

patients are unclear of what information to put in their PHR and that some information should be

their PHR to inappropriately request narcotics. Providers also acknowledged possible barriers related
to PHRs if a patient has to get online to access the information and then the provider has to page
through multiple pages to find what he needs in a fifteen minute appointment timeframe. Some
providers said they have concerns over accuracy and want to be able to control the data going in the

How Is The Bourgeoisie Related To The Rise Of Capitalism
Although Karl Marx criticized the private property and exploitation of labor in the bourgeoisie
governed society, he contended that Capitalism was progressive in history. (p.67)The capitalist had
indeed played a revolutionary part in mode of production, of exchange, and relation of production.
The epoch of capitalism set a consolidated material basis by enhancing the productive force. The rise
of bourgeoisie propels novel and effective modes of production and improves people s living standard.
The bourgeoisie put up a manufacturing system with unskilled worker. The division of labor in such
system allows more workers to do easier tasks and thus increasing the commodity production, when
the traditional feudal economics could not satisfy the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The economic power eventually developed into political power that supported the bourgeoisie to
replace the outdated aristocracy. Marx believed the instability of society came from the
incompatibility of the massive productive forces and its obsolete relation of production.(p.70)
Capitalism emerged in the age of feudalism, and was itself adapted to the feudal society well enough
in the early stage; however, having constantly improved its modes of production and of exchange, at
certain stage, the political and economic characters of feudal society impede the development of
productive forces. Therefore, capitalism began to set up a constitution to replace the outmoded rule
and furthering production. Therefore, French Revolution was a representation of the middle class rebel
against the feudalism to change the relation of production. The bourgeoisie, although out of
themselves profits, endeavor to terminate the feudal, patriarchal and idyllic relation (67) and therefore
removing natural superiors and improving equality in society. In this sense, capitalism is more

Essay On Point Of Sales
Leveraging Points of Sale and Profit Making for Fundraising Success POS Point of sale is the term
commonly associated with the retail industry and involves the place of transaction between a buyer
and a seller. (Kelley, p. 108) There are three major revenue streams that can leverage POS for schools
and universities; ticket sales, concessions and retail licensed merchandise. In order to make any
organization profitable and increase revenue, one must leverage every point of sale, beginning with
ticket sales. There are several different ways that organizations can increase their customer database,
upsell their current customers and solidify their longtime customers, all which will help improve their
revenue and overall bottom line. We will focus on the ways that universities and schools can do this
with and in coordination with sporting events and teams. The first and largest potential for increasing
revenue is through ticket sales. Depending on the team, the sport, and even the kind of season a team
is having (wins/losses), all of these can impact ticket revenue for schools and universities. Most
universities already have a solid foundation of repeat season ticket holders for certain events. These
would be considered longtime customers. These should be one of the first groups to solicit for
additional business because they have already shown long term interest in the school, team or sport.
They have continued to donate money, purchase their season tickets, and

Canada s North and Aboriginal Popluation
Canada s North is often seen as the country s national identity. In actuality, it stems far beyond the
isolated land of picturesque vistas used to often describe Canada s rugged landscape. The lived
Canadian environment reflects a regional perspective that does not encompass the true reality of the
country as a whole. The North links the diversity of Indigenous peoples to the land they have occupied
for centuries, a place where they have built their own distinct culture, language and identity. Those
ideals have been increasingly challenged in the twenty first century, in spite of the imagined sense of
Canadianness in the North but because of the transitioning economy and environment in the North.
This paper will explore the challenges facing Canada s northern resource economy and the socio
cultural implications on the regions Aboriginal population.
Historically, the national psyche of the Territorial North uses the region to define the country to
citizens and the world, with 80% of Canadians linking their national identity to the North (Cric Papers
4). Canadians have come to see the North as an idea, not [a] location; a myth, a promise, a destiny
(Francis 152). The North serves as a land of imagination and a physical challenge for adventurers,
epitomizing the North as a romanticized region (Francis 154) which links the landscape and
environment to an imagined sense of Canadian culture and identity. Beyond the depths of the
imagined North lie three very distinct

Labor in Call Centers
CRITICAL ANALYSIS TAYLOR BAIN
Under scrutinized until the late 1990s, call centres have now got significant scholastic consideration.
The astounding and managed development of call centres, stretching out far past their starting bases in
the financial and telecommunications areas, has bewildered the early scepticism. The competitive
advantage for the companies picked up through the combination of phone and VDU advances, giving
immediate phone based client services and selling led to widespread of this phenomenon. the growing
financial sector has given the UK government s modernising motivation, which expects to guarantee
that, by 2002, 25% of its administrations are open electronically.
This case they investigated the truth of the labour processes at the call centres and labour related
issues. In this process, it has touched upon civil arguments concerning the way of IT work and the
current organisation. The significance to the call centre labour procedure are two ranges of theories in
concern. Firstly, and in particular, attention will be provided for the pertinence of Foucauldian
electronic Panopticon viewpoints, whose fascination has demonstrated overwhelming to both
prevalent commentators (Arkin, 1997) and scholastics (Fernie and Metcalf, 1997) as they have
endeavored to theorise the nature and knowledge of call centre work. Also, it makes reference to the
idea of emotional labour , as expounded at first by Hochschild (1983).

China And Japan s Influence On The Western Civilization
China and Japan had similar but different experiences with the Western civilization. China and Japan
reacted differently to the Western nations and it was China s reactions to the West that would break the
Chinese s isolation leaving their traditions behind. The Industrial trade in Europe and the United
States had created a gap between Asia and the West, This left china and Japan far behind
technologically and they were not able to stand up against the western nations and although at
different times China and Japan both ended up having to sign unequal treaties, and to open their ports
for merchants.
China experiences the pressure of the imperialist s military which China did not have the knowledge
or the experience to match. China went from a superior leader, self sufficient country, that thought that
everyone else were barbarians to a torn country. China accepted foreign trade, but they wanted to
control and limit how much and with who the trade was used for, they felt that they European trade
was unnecessary. They did not allow the western merchants to have any power or privileges and
restricted them to Canton, plus they refused to open their trade system beyond Co Hong which caused
china to not become as prosperous as Japan. (Valentini 2013) Because China the believed that they
were the center of civilization and that the Western culture was inferior the Chinese government
refused to go along with any of the European s request and the two nations became hostile towards

rights and were sold across the world, it became apparent as network usage grew, that it was difficult,
to enable all of these systems to communicate with each other. In the early 1980s, the International
Organization for Standardization (ISO) recognized the need for a network model that would help
companies create common network implementations. The OSI reference model, released in 1984,

The Combat Oriented Tasks Of The Tradoc Pt Manual
Once the analysis of the current APFT exercises have been completed the research will move on to the
combat oriented tasks described in the TRADOC PT Manual. This leads us into stage two of the
research. The tasks describe within the manual can be found within chapter 13 of the manual. The
TRADOC manual is also Army wide guidance concerning what types of tasks Soldiers must be able to
perform in combat situations. The actions prescribed in the manual will be evaluated on the same
criteria as the current APFT format. The tasks specifically include: marching, running, lifting from
ground and overhead, lunching pushing and rotations. These actions will again be broken down into
the different body actions used in each movement and associated with the type of muscle contractions
used. The TRADOC Tasks will be categorized and their characteristics identified on the following

The third stage of this research will be conducted through electronic survey. By conducting all surveys
through electronic means the study will be able to read a wider audience and a larger participation
group in a more efficient way. By using the military global email system email surveys can be sent

achieve the company objective of becoming the world s leading coffee brand. Having gone through
various stages of growing pain, today the Company is operating with over 10,000 stores in 37
countries. Starbucks success was mostly a direct result of its aggressive expansion plan, that

Consequently, this group of consumers possesses the greatest growth potential. In connection with this
growth potential, Starbucks also started Hear Music Coffeehouse stores that offer in store music CD
burning services. Starbucks further started to open Media Bars where customers can create their own
mix of CDs. This is Starbucks first phase of a multi phased national rollout (Starbucks, 2006). Most
likely these creative efforts will boost growth from the younger patorns and music lovers.
On the other hand, the older generations may be reluctant to be attracted to Starbucks. Rather, they
may just visit a local coffee shop instead. Therefore this market segment may not grow as fast as the
younger generations. Furthermore, a market segment that has declining potential is the busy working
professionals. Because of their busy schedule, these working professionals, males and females alike,
may just brew their own coffees in the office space. Another discouraging factor is the much higher
price of Starbucks coffee products. As a general rule, Starbucks does not offer promotional prices on
its products, which tend to be higher than those of competitors (Wikipedia, 2006). As people grow
older, they may be more conscientious to their spending. Regardless of continued future growth
potentials, Starbucks faces some drawbacks. In an effort to increase sales, Starbucks started to print

Descriptive Essay About Smoking
Don t let people treat you like a cigarette; they only use you when they are bored and step on you
when they are done. But still I did. I inhaled the bad parts of myself and exhaled them into people, and
soon the toxic smoke surrounded them and suddenly the bad parts of me left and rooted in others.
Ashes fell from each flick, one after another I was slowly killing myself. People wondered why I
smoked so much and why my body always smelled like an ashtray. The truth is, I was trying to kill
something inside of me but instead I was killing myself. Those addictive sticks of cancer where the
only thing that never left me, it was like food for my broken soul that I was sure would never be
mended back together. Late at night, at three in the morning, smoke circling in the cold air and I
couldn t help but stare at the sky. Shooting stars fell into the sky and my mind goes back to that
cigarette, carelessly sitting between my index and middle finger, and the ashes falling to the ground.
As time goes on I am becoming that sinister little stick. I am that cigarette, that long drag, that tireless
craving.
You see I am that cigarette, everyone uses me but when i m gone they soon start to miss my presence.
They can t help but spark that lighter and inhale that nasty smoke. I am that sickening toxic mixture,
the badness that people need around for some quick relief. Constantly changing my levels of toxicity
making people crave me more but as soon as i don t give them that high they so long for i m crushed
into the ground. Left there to decay and die because once they get their fix I no longer matter to them.
For some odd reason I can t get over being used, maybe it s because when they come back I finally
feel like I matter again. But yet, how can something that causes so much damage be craved so much? I
ask myself that whenever someone needs me. If I am just a temporary high then why am I even
needed. That first morning drag is enough to keep wanting that evil temptation throughout the rest of
the day. I don t understand why people become addicted to this annoying substance that does nothing
but suck the life out of a person, but that s me, people act as if I am so terrible to be around, but can t

has been recorded in the history of several ancient peoples. They all seem to be intertwined for they all
similarly explain the same things: they gather in a circle and communicate with the humans. In the
end, they inspire them to create new technology and to explore. As I have written before, they created
temples and new structures of buildings, such as the Washington Monument.
All in all, Earth has been visited by extraterrestrial life in ancient and modern times. There have been
abductees and many witnesses. Some has proven to be false, but there still remains that small portion
that is unidentified. We should keep in mind about Area 51, the mysterious U.S. military installation

Becoming An Endocrinologist
An endocrinologist is someone who studies and specializes in anything relating to the endocrine
system. As described the endocrine system is a series of glands that work throughout the body to help
you function properly. To become an endocrinologist is a long process taking up to 10 years of
education. They then have the ability to treat and diagnose a hormone imbalance or problem in the
endocrine organs such as thyroid, pituitary, testes, ovaries, pancreas, and adrenals. Some conditions
treated by an endocrinologist include cancers of the endocrine system, cholesterol disorders,
hypertension, diabetes, growth problems, metabolic disorders and infertility problems. When trying to

Most are common only around 5% coming to be cancerous. Most times when a person has a thyroid
nodule they have no symptoms. If the nodule is causing your glands to make too many hormones it
can cause what is called hyperthyroidism. Symptoms of this include palpitations, rapid heart rate,
anxiety, restlessness and an increased appetite. If your doctor suspects thyroid nodules they will do
tests such as an ultrasound or a thyroid scan. A good example of a procedure done by an
endocrinologist is an LHRH test. This test is done to see how your pituitary gland is working when it
comes to regulating sex hormone production. The night of this procedure you are to not eat or drink
anything. When you go in, you will be made comfortable and have a small needle inserted into a vein
in your hand or arm. This is just to get a blood sample and is not to stay. Whoever is taking the blood
will use a needle such as a ventflon to make drawing the blood sample easy with little to no
discomfort. The blood is then checked for hormones LH and LSH then you get an injection to make
the levels of those hormones rise. You will have blood drawn twice. Once each after 30

would result Bud being in poor condition if or when Bud got to Grand

Soccer In The United States
Soccer in the United States has consistently taken a back seat to sports such as football, basketball, or
baseball until today. Soccer was a sport that never gained traction in the United States until recently,
and this is likely due to the American public who never appears to support a sport/club unless they
show signs of success in competition. Unfortunately, one of the downsides of the American public
only caring about the winners, is that even though soccer has existed in America for so long, they have
not been popular due to the lack of success, which is tied directly to the inability to recruit talented
athletes to play in MLS or the FIFA national team. However, while the popularity of soccer in the
United States is still relatively low in comparison to certain sports, their popularity is on the rise.
According to an article published by TheRichest.com in 2014, men s soccer was then the seventh most
popular sport in the United States behind ice hockey, men s professional basketball, auto racing,
college football, baseball, and football. Soccer never truly began to gain traction as a popular sport
until recently, that is why individuals younger than the age of thirty typically will not watch a soccer
match before they will the majority of sports. An expected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Introducing Object Oriented Programming For Engineering...
Introducing Object Oriented Programming to Engineering Technology students with an App
Development Tool Abstract: Object oriented programming concepts are frequently a difficult topic for
Engineering Technology educators to teach to students that have no previous object oriented
programming experience. With the recent rise of mobile computing, a powerful and robust tool is now
available to easily develop software for the Android mobile device operating system. Through App
development with a highly interactive interface and real time device feedback, difficult programming
concepts are conveyed in a highly visual and tactile learning environment. Introduction The need for
OOP and a better way to teach it. Introducing object oriented computer programming (OOP) to
Engineering Technology students who have never programmed is often difficult. Even those students
who have programmed before in other non object based languages are often apprehensive or
completely lost when introduced to Java and related OOP languages. This apprehension inhibits the
learning process and has shown a need for a more inviting development environment aside from the
blank text document with which the student is presented. A modern mobile platform application (app)
development tool offers an innovative and exciting approach to the introduction of many basic
programming skills. This free software development tool called MIT App Inventor (Abelson, 2011) or
simply AppInventor provides an inviting

The Idiot Book Analysis
Kurosawa s three hour adaptation of The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, a complicated four part novel,
had to cut out, simplify, and change the original work in order to adapt it to film. However, looking at
the specific changes Kurosawa made, specifically towards the end of his film, it is clear that the
changes he made weren t merely for the sake of time. Although Kurosawa s modifications might seem
random, changes like the bedroom being hot in the book as compared to cold in the movie, eliminating
the wedding scene entirely, and most tellingly having Ayako call herself an idiot with the last words of
the movie dramatically narrow the argument in the story of The Idiot. While one of the central themes
of the original novel was the main character s, Myshkin, Russian Orthodox Christianity, Kurosawa cut
it out entirely and instead moved the focus of his movie onto the definition of idiocy.
Taken at first glance, the ending to the novel seems more suspenseful, but when examined closer the
movie is just as thrilling as the novel. As Myshkin and Rogozhin lie in bedroom beside Nastasya s
corpse, the room is sweltering. This clearly uncomfortable situation parallels the unsettling feeling that
Dostoevsky desires readers to have with Myshkin comforting Rogozhin. Although this course of
action is the natural conclusion to Myshkin s professed Christianity, readers are more likely to extend
Nastasya pity and compassion, and refrain from giving it to her murderer. As Kurosawa

Magic Flute Analysis
Die Zauberflöte, The Magic Flute is composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. It is a singspiel in two
acts. Its German libretto is written by Austrian actor and theatrical producer Emanuel Schikaneder.
In early 1791, Mozart was deeply in debt as his music no longer appealed to the Viennese public. Thus
Mozart was extremely keen when Emanuel Schikaneder suggested that they work together on a new
opera.
Schikaneder had arrived in Vienna in 1789. He managed the Theater auf der Wieden, a theatre that
specialized in popular German language musical entertainment, which were often comical with
foreign or fantastic settings.
Soon after his arrival, Schikaneder had been extremely successful with the magic opera Oberon by
composer Paul Wranitzky and librettist Carl Ludwig Giesecke. Following this success, Schikaneder
decided to write the libretto to The Magic Flute, with Mozart composing the music. Schikaneder
promised to give Mozart the rental fees for productions following the premiere. However, he later
went back on his word and for years, Mozart s widow fought for the money while The Magic Flute
made profit all over Europe.
The Magic Flute began composition in May/June and most of it was completed by July. Mozart
composed most of the music in a little hut on the grounds of Theater auf der Wieden. In mid
September, Mozart began the final preparations for the premiere of The Magic Flute, which included
composing the Overture, the part of his opera which he always wrote last. The full score of The Magic
Flute was finished on September 28th and it premiered at Theater auf der Wieden on September 30,
1791. Mozart conducted the orchestra, while Schikaneder sang the role of Papageno.
Mozart wrote many vocal parts for specific singers he knew. One example is The Queen of the Night,
whose arias require the singer to sing F6, which is extremely demanding. For the less experienced
singers, Mozart wrote and supported their parts with the orchestra.
On the opening night, although the performance was good, the audience did not respond
enthusiastically as the unconventional and wide range of music in the opera were breaking the norms
and expectations of what an opera was. However, this sparked immense curiosity and drew in huge

Results. The first set of data to be looked at is gun ownership and the percentage of males and females
that agree or disagree to the ownership of guns. As can be seen on Table 1 which deals with gun

of males say yes to gun ownership. Taking the difference from the percentages of males who say yes
and females who say yes , there is a difference of 9 percent. Using the rule of thumb for calculating a

relationship among females and males who are in favor of gun ownership. When looking at the

Through a series of tests, focusing on keeping Gender the independent variable and testing it against 8
different dependent variable. The results from the study suggest that females tend to have more liberal
opinions towards public policy than males. This is not to say that there is a large relationship, in point
of fact there is a small to an almost non existent relationship. Though the hypothesis is not wrong, it is
not a correct to say with 100% certainty that females will always have more liberal opinions towards
public policy than males. As seen in Tables 7 and 8, both had small relationships and concluded that
for defense sending, males tended to hold more liberal opinions. And though small by only 5 points, it
still exists. The reason for the evening of opinions between males and females may attribute back to
Welch s argument in her paper Are Women More Liberal Than Men in the US Congress (Welch,
1985). Her conclusion was, though there is a small relationship with females holding more liberal
voting patterns, the gap seems to be dwindling as years progress. This could be due to the fact that
females are becoming a much more prominent force in politics as opposed to the past. The amount of
females with education may be increasing as well as become more independent from males and able
to stand their ground and hold firm opinions. This paper reaffirms this belief

Russel Westbrooks play this season is the most intriguing that I have. This season Russel Westbrook
averaged a triple double and surpassed Oscar Roberson for most triple doubles in a season with forty
three. He averaged 31 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. In order for him to have been able to average
a triple double this season had to at least have one in forty one of the eighty two season games. Since

The Construction Of Roman Seagoing Warships
Whether you are transporting people, laying siege to a countryside, or simply shipping goods down
the coast, ships have always been the way to do it and the Romans have perfected this method.
Romans might not have been the first to build ships but they were the ones who were able to master
the art of naval warfare and shipping goods and people to and from Alexandria. To this day we still
base many of our shipping systems off of them and their influence on modern day ship design is
prevalent in documents that show the materials used for ships that we still use today. The technology
and history of Roman ships and the practice of shipbuilding has evolved over the span of time. Many

Roman ships are rather simple in design. Many ships simply had a single main mast which carried a
rectangular sail. However some ships also had small sails at the bow and stern. Roman ships were
steered by large oars as opposed to rudders. Lighthouses were placed by Romans to aid shipping to
avoid crashes into dangerous cliff sides and rocks.Romans built large merchant ships called cortia.
These large ships could carry up to 1,000 tons of cargo easily.Majority of Roman merchant ships
transported a wide range of commodities, including wine, garum, fruit, nuts, oil, and fish, in two
handled clay storage jars called amphoras. Shipwrights were called either a faber navalis or an
architectus navalis. These shipwrights organized themselves into collegia, or guilds, and excavations.
Ancient ships were made of wood and water proofed using pitch and paint. Commanders began to
favor smaller more maneuverable ships called liburna. Liburna played a huge role in helping Octavian
defeat Marc Antony. Ships with multiple levels of rowers were manoeuvrable enough to attack enemy
vessels by ramming into the sides of them. The trireme was a ship that literally translated into three
banks of oars. The quinqueremes were the largest ships. They had three banks of rowers with two each
for the upper two oars and one rower on the lower oar. There

Analysis Of Hidden Figures By Margot Lee Shetterly
The novel Hidden Figures, written by Margot Lee Shetterly consists of a prologue, twenty three
captivating and without a doubt inspiring chapters, and a reflective epilogue, detailing the lives of
Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson. For me, the most inspirational and
resonating passage is found in the epilogue. As Shetterly is reflecting on Katherine Johnson s
aeronautical achievements she questions, What could be more American than the story of a gifted little
girl who counted her way from White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, to the stars? (Shetterly 251).
Shetterly s rhetorical question comes at perfect timing, as I will soon begin my undergraduate

Analysis Of Le Chinois Galant
Le Chinois Galant
Le Chinois Galant, is a breathtaking oil painting that was created by a famous artist in the 18th century
of the name Francois Boucher. This stunning painting conveys the modern era that is of china. This
canvas of which this painting was painted on was fitted onto a Rococo frame as seen in The David
Collection located at Copenhagen, Denmark; that was photographed by Pernille Klemp. The
dimensions for the canvas are forty one inches by fifty seven inches. In this art piece oil paint was
used on linen canvas to help create different shades of blue color, adding not only more of a vibrant
effect but also portraying a mood to the painting. By applying the oil paint, it gave the benefit of
making the surface of the painting more smooth. The smoothness of the paint reflected gave more
contrast to the painting. The subject manifested within the painting is one in which a man is courting
the woman to ultimately making love to one another. It seems as though the man and woman are in a
garden that is quiet and contained within the garden is a statue of Buddha hinting at possibly the loss
of innocence. The main purpose of Francois Boucher s canvas, Le Chinois Galant, was to demonstrate
the cultural influence of the Chinese on the European after both cultures started trading goods in
beginning of the fifteenth century.
In Le Chinois Galant many type of formal elements that clearly displayed with the help of different
principles of designs incorporated in this

  • 3. Essay On Political Polarization Political Media organizations are obligated to sufficiently inform the American public about both global and domestic political issues. News corporations are failing to completely deliver on that obligation as a result of increasing political polarization and decreasing quality of content fueled by social media. In order to deliver the American people with unbiased facts about our government, there needs to be a reduction in the partisanship of news outlets. People, politics, and the channel of communication between the two all have suffered from increasing political polarization. Polarization of news channels stems from the emphasis on entertaining viewers. Most major news organizations foster either a left or right leaning bias displayed through talk show hosts, guest speakers, or published content. As a result, the viewership of news networks is very politically divided. People who follow political coverage through any outlet are more inclined to believe stories that align with their personal views. In contrast, people are more likely to discredit stories that conflict with their personal beliefs. Business Insider published a statistic from a study that noted, Both CNN and Fox News are among the most trusted news networks; it found 88% of its conservative participants trusted Fox News, while only 14% of the same group trusted CNN . ... He argues that, ethics consists of what we ought to do, and such knowledge can be taught . As children s minds develop, they learn obedience to the law of land from their parents, teachers, and authority figures in their life. However, they only act in terms of these authority figures. Psychologist Lawrence Kohlberg established the idea that the ability of moral thinking does not form simultaneously. It develops in children in stages, the same way there are stages of growth and physical development. • 6. Nature In The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner The Rime of the Ancient Mariner describes an unnatural voyage. This voyage itself is metaphorical of a shift from the natural to the unnatural. The beginning of the voyage details a normal trip with the weather being beneficial to the mariners. However, after a storm blows all of the mariners to the Antarctic, nature starts to revolt. This shift is used as a literary device to both further the narrative and to communicate the change in tone. Coleridge uses the shift in nature as a means to describe the ancient mariner s punishment. The first instance of nature the Ancient Mariner describes is when the ship sets sail. As described by the Mariner, all is normal: The ship was cheered, the harbor cleared Merrily did we drop (6). Nature is normal; there is no mention of unnatural seas ... The first figure is Death, the other one wins the Mariner s fate: The Nightmare Life in Death was she Who thicks man s blood with cold The naked hulk alongside came, and twain were casting dice; The game is done! I ve won! I ve won! Quoth she, and whistles thrice. (11). Thus, Life in Death seals the fate of the Mariner by winning his soul, and forcing him to live out horrible apparitions. The first of which is watching each and every sailor die (12). Nature does this as a means to single out the Ancient Mariner, since he is given a worse fate. In order to make any organization profitable and increase revenue, one must leverage every point of sale, beginning with ticket sales. There are several different ways that organizations can increase their customer database, upsell their current customers and solidify their longtime customers, all which will help improve their revenue and overall bottom line. We will focus on the ways that universities and schools can do this with and in coordination with sporting events and teams. The first and largest potential for increasing revenue is through ticket sales. Depending on the team, the sport, and even the kind of season a team is having (wins/losses), all of these can impact ticket revenue for schools and universities. Most universities already have a solid foundation of repeat season ticket holders for certain events. These would be considered longtime customers. • 10. Canada s North and Aboriginal Popluation Canada s North is often seen as the country s national identity. In actuality, it stems far beyond the isolated land of picturesque vistas used to often describe Canada s rugged landscape. The lived Canadian environment reflects a regional perspective that does not encompass the true reality of the country as a whole. The North links the diversity of Indigenous peoples to the land they have occupied for centuries, a place where they have built their own distinct culture, language and identity. Those ideals have been increasingly challenged in the twenty first century, in spite of the imagined sense of Canadianness in the North but because of the transitioning economy and environment in the North. This paper will explore the challenges facing Canada s northern resource economy and the socio cultural implications on the regions Aboriginal population. Historically, the national psyche of the Territorial North uses the region to define the country to citizens and the world, with 80% of Canadians linking their national identity to the North (Cric Papers 4). Canadians have come to see the North as an idea, not [a] location; a myth, a promise, a destiny (Francis 152). The North serves as a land of imagination and a physical challenge for adventurers, epitomizing the North as a romanticized region (Francis 154) which links the landscape and environment to an imagined sense of Canadian culture and identity. The astounding and managed development of call centres, stretching out far past their starting bases in the financial and telecommunications areas, has bewildered the early scepticism. The competitive advantage for the companies picked up through the combination of phone and VDU advances, giving immediate phone based client services and selling led to widespread of this phenomenon. the growing financial sector has given the UK government s modernising motivation, which expects to guarantee that, by 2002, 25% of its administrations are open electronically. This case they investigated the truth of the labour processes at the call centres and labour related issues. In this process, it has touched upon civil arguments concerning the way of IT work and the current organisation. The significance to the call centre labour procedure are two ranges of theories in concern. Firstly, and in particular, attention will be provided for the pertinence of Foucauldian electronic Panopticon viewpoints, whose fascination has demonstrated overwhelming to both prevalent commentators (Arkin, 1997) and scholastics (Fernie and Metcalf, 1997) as they have endeavored to theorise the nature and knowledge of call centre work. China experiences the pressure of the imperialist s military which China did not have the knowledge or the experience to match. China went from a superior leader, self sufficient country, that thought that everyone else were barbarians to a torn country. China accepted foreign trade, but they wanted to control and limit how much and with who the trade was used for, they felt that they European trade was unnecessary. They did not allow the western merchants to have any power or privileges and restricted them to Canton, plus they refused to open their trade system beyond Co Hong which caused china to not become as prosperous as Japan. Most likely these creative efforts will boost growth from the younger patorns and music lovers. On the other hand, the older generations may be reluctant to be attracted to Starbucks. Rather, they may just visit a local coffee shop instead. Therefore this market segment may not grow as fast as the younger generations. Furthermore, a market segment that has declining potential is the busy working professionals. Because of their busy schedule, these working professionals, males and females alike, may just brew their own coffees in the office space. Another discouraging factor is the much higher price of Starbucks coffee products. As a general rule, Starbucks does not offer promotional prices on its products, which tend to be higher than those of competitors (Wikipedia, 2006). • 19. Descriptive Essay About Smoking Don t let people treat you like a cigarette; they only use you when they are bored and step on you when they are done. But still I did. I inhaled the bad parts of myself and exhaled them into people, and soon the toxic smoke surrounded them and suddenly the bad parts of me left and rooted in others. Ashes fell from each flick, one after another I was slowly killing myself. People wondered why I smoked so much and why my body always smelled like an ashtray. The truth is, I was trying to kill something inside of me but instead I was killing myself. Those addictive sticks of cancer where the only thing that never left me, it was like food for my broken soul that I was sure would never be mended back together. Late at night, at three in the morning, smoke circling in the cold air and I couldn t help but stare at the sky. Shooting stars fell into the sky and my mind goes back to that cigarette, carelessly sitting between my index and middle finger, and the ashes falling to the ground. As time goes on I am becoming that sinister little stick. I am that cigarette, that long drag, that tireless craving. You see I am that cigarette, everyone uses me but when i m gone they soon start to miss my presence. They can t help but spark that lighter and inhale that nasty smoke. I am that sickening toxic mixture, the badness that people need around for some quick relief. Constantly changing my levels of toxicity making people crave me more but as soon as i don t give them that high they so long for i m crushed into the ground. Left there to decay and die because once they get their fix I no longer matter to them. For some odd reason I can t get over being used, maybe it s because when they come back I finally feel like I matter again. But yet, how can something that causes so much damage be craved so much? I ask myself that whenever someone needs me. If I am just a temporary high then why am I even needed. That first morning drag is enough to keep wanting that evil temptation throughout the rest of the day. I don t understand why people become addicted to this annoying substance that does nothing but suck the life out of a person, but that s me, people act as if I am so terrible to be around, but can t help but keep me nearby ... Soccer was a sport that never gained traction in the United States until recently, and this is likely due to the American public who never appears to support a sport/club unless they show signs of success in competition. Unfortunately, one of the downsides of the American public only caring about the winners, is that even though soccer has existed in America for so long, they have not been popular due to the lack of success, which is tied directly to the inability to recruit talented athletes to play in MLS or the FIFA national team. However, while the popularity of soccer in the United States is still relatively low in comparison to certain sports, their popularity is on the rise. • 28. The Idiot Book Analysis Kurosawa s three hour adaptation of The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, a complicated four part novel, had to cut out, simplify, and change the original work in order to adapt it to film. However, looking at the specific changes Kurosawa made, specifically towards the end of his film, it is clear that the changes he made weren t merely for the sake of time. Although Kurosawa s modifications might seem random, changes like the bedroom being hot in the book as compared to cold in the movie, eliminating the wedding scene entirely, and most tellingly having Ayako call herself an idiot with the last words of the movie dramatically narrow the argument in the story of The Idiot. While one of the central themes of the original novel was the main character s, Myshkin, Russian Orthodox Christianity, Kurosawa cut it out entirely and instead moved the focus of his movie onto the definition of idiocy. Taken at first glance, the ending to the novel seems more suspenseful, but when examined closer the movie is just as thrilling as the novel. As Myshkin and Rogozhin lie in bedroom beside Nastasya s corpse, the room is sweltering. This clearly uncomfortable situation parallels the unsettling feeling that Dostoevsky desires readers to have with Myshkin comforting Rogozhin. Although this course of action is the natural conclusion to Myshkin s professed Christianity, readers are more likely to extend Nastasya pity and compassion, and refrain from giving it to her murderer. • 29. Magic Flute Analysis Die Zauberflöte, The Magic Flute is composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. It is a singspiel in two acts. Its German libretto is written by Austrian actor and theatrical producer Emanuel Schikaneder. In early 1791, Mozart was deeply in debt as his music no longer appealed to the Viennese public. Thus Mozart was extremely keen when Emanuel Schikaneder suggested that they work together on a new opera. Schikaneder had arrived in Vienna in 1789. He managed the Theater auf der Wieden, a theatre that specialized in popular German language musical entertainment, which were often comical with foreign or fantastic settings. Soon after his arrival, Schikaneder had been extremely successful with the magic opera Oberon by composer Paul Wranitzky and librettist Carl Ludwig Giesecke. Following this success, Schikaneder decided to write the libretto to The Magic Flute, with Mozart composing the music. Schikaneder promised to give Mozart the rental fees for productions following the premiere. However, he later went back on his word and for years, Mozart s widow fought for the money while The Magic Flute made profit all over Europe. The Magic Flute began composition in May/June and most of it was completed by July. Mozart composed most of the music in a little hut on the grounds of Theater auf der Wieden. In mid September, Mozart began the final preparations for the premiere of The Magic Flute, which included composing the Overture, the part of his opera which he always wrote last. The full score of The Magic Flute was finished on September 28th and it premiered at Theater auf der Wieden on September 30, 1791. Mozart conducted the orchestra, while Schikaneder sang the role of Papageno. Mozart wrote many vocal parts for specific singers he knew. One example is The Queen of the Night, whose arias require the singer to sing F6, which is extremely demanding. For the less experienced singers, Mozart wrote and supported their parts with the orchestra. On the opening night, although the performance was good, the audience did not respond enthusiastically as the unconventional and wide range of music in the opera were breaking the norms and expectations of what an opera was. As seen in Tables 7 and 8, both had small relationships and concluded that for defense sending, males tended to hold more liberal opinions. And though small by only 5 points, it still exists. The reason for the evening of opinions between males and females may attribute back to Welch s argument in her paper Are Women More Liberal Than Men in the US Congress (Welch, 1985). Her conclusion was, though there is a small relationship with females holding more liberal voting patterns, the gap seems to be dwindling as years progress. This could be due to the fact that females are becoming a much more prominent force in politics as opposed to the past. The amount of females with education may be increasing as well as become more independent from males and able to stand their ground and hold firm opinions. This paper reaffirms this belief ... This canvas of which this painting was painted on was fitted onto a Rococo frame as seen in The David Collection located at Copenhagen, Denmark; that was photographed by Pernille Klemp. The dimensions for the canvas are forty one inches by fifty seven inches.
