Explain The Realism Of The Gulf War
Abstract
The Gulf War was a brief affair between Kuwait and Iraq in 1990 and 1991 when Iraq invaded
Kuwait, yet many additional state and non state parties involved. Realism is a theory attempting to
explain international relationships, which says that states struggle to hold power and will inevitably be
in conflict with each other because of this. Although realism was a core theory before the Cold War,
many believe that it is no longer applicable post Cold War.
This paper has three parts. First, it will provide a brief explanation of the Gulf War. Second, it will
explain realism including the view of realism s relevance post Cold War. Finally, it will discuss the
realist interpretation of the actions of three large actors involved in the war: Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and
the United States. This paper will critically discuss the Gulf War and investigate the dynamics and
motivations of the three main actors involved from a realist perspective. This paper will prove that
although realism is no longer overt, hidden intentions and behaviors line up to agree with a realist
methodology in international relations.
Realism is one theory that has been used to explain international relationships. However, many say
that it is less relevant post Cold War due to changes in politics and interactions between states. The ...

Where there were small moments of collaboration, it was only to position one s self to gain power by
force. Countries have learned, as if through rote memorization, that it is not appropriate to attack other
states in order to get what they want; they have been taught to try (or pretend to try) and work
together. However, it is all too clear that as soon as the state does not get what it desires in the easy
manner, the state acts in a manner explained by realism, which is to take it by sheer force, perhaps

Mystery Will Absolve Me Play
I created my own play incorporating horror and mystery. The title is Mystery will absolve me . It was
inspired by Grand Guignol productions of horror. My play takes place in a hotel room in New York of
modern time. There is a family of four that checks into a particular room. The family of four is from
Kanas visiting New York and has nowhere else to go but to stay in the hotel room for their vacation.
The hotel room that the family checks is like a penthouse. But things start to get creepy as the days
keeps going on to the next day. Everything in the room starts to look old and starts to look like the
Victorian age period. The family starts to complain to the hotel manager. However, the hotel manager
says its fine and everything looks

Prejudice And Prejudice
Prejudice is a burden that confuses the past, threatens the future, and renders the present inaccessible.
This quote was written by Maya Angelou, and she wrote it because when she was at a very young age,
she was raped because she was black. After she was raped all the kids at school made fun of her, so
from that moment on she decided to not let anyone be prejudice or stereotype anyone. So she started
writing quotes so other people can know how it feels and to share her story with everyone else. At that
age in her life, everyone was fighting about racism, people were prejudice and stereotyping all the
other people who were not the same skin color as them. People feel like they have to change, for
example they change their looks, the way they talk, the way they dress, or even the way they act
around people. Prejudice and stereotyping negatively affect people s identity. In today s world, people
are using prejudice to negatively affect people s identity. People are prejudice in many different ways
today. For example, you can walk into the lunchroom and see different cliques at different tables and
not socializing with anyone but the people at their tables. Even in highschool, cheerleaders, and
football players tend to only talk to their group of friends. There are teachers that try to mix it up by
pairing popular kids with unpopular kids, but even that doesn t always work. In The Outsiders, The
Greasers are very prejudice against the Socs, The Greasers live on the East side and don t have a lot of
money. The Socs, on the other hand, live on the West side and have a lot of money and have anything
they could ever ask for. The Socs think The Greasers are gross and poor kids and The Greasers think
that The Socs are rich and super snobby kids. The Greasers and Socs think this about each other
because they have never really had the chance to get to know each other, so the Greasers just assume
that all of the Socs are bad and only like to jump people. On the other hand, the Socs think that the
Greasers are just hoods and look for fights and are super weak and that they are way better than them.
This negatively affect The Greasers lives because they think that they need to be something that they
re not.

The First Camper With A Years Old Girl With Cerebral Palsy
The first camper paired with me was Sarah a fourteen year old girl with cerebral palsy. Although she
was bound to a wheelchair, she was as boy crazy as any fourteen year old girl. Because we were the
same age, we bonded over several things, especially our love for Justin Bieber and One Direction. Our
friendship did not start as a normal friendship would since I assisted her in all daily activities, but it
was a friendship built on love and appreciation of one another.
During the same year, I met Devon. She had Down Syndrome, but she did not let this disability stop
her. She brought a positive attitude to all activities. Often, she would come up behind me and tickle
me; if I laughed, Devon would laugh. On rainy days or before rest hour, she became Rainbow Dash
and rapped in the cabin about anything and everything. My favorite side of Devon is the tomboy that
came out during outdoor games. Although her mental disability inhibited her physical, it did not stop
her trash talking her opponents.
My most recent camper is Lizzie. Lizzie had a developmental disability; although she was thirteen,
she had the mental capacity of a four year old. Sometimes, Lizzie had a hard time verbalizing what
she wanted and became aggravated with her attendants for not understanding. The volunteers knew
what would always cheer her up: her slinky. Lizzie asked me countless times a day if we could go to
Cracker Barrel just to buy a small purple slinky. Lizzie was happy as long as she has her

I Won T Give Up
Two girls were taken away and lied to and became part of human trafficking. Elle and Skye, two
victims of human trafficking, were sold for sex and not knowing what would happen in the future.
Aggie, the grandmother of Elle and Skye, is a determined woman who demands and believes that she
will see her granddaughters again. In this journal, I will select one song that describes each character s
personality that is described throughout the book. Aggie is an elated and determined woman that does
not let anything get in her way. Her goal in this book is to find her two granddaughters that were taken
by their father. Aggie is determined to sneak into a party that can supposedly help her find Elle and
Skye. Jack, Mr. DuMonde s twin brother, is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She knew she was getting herself into a lot of trouble, but she ended up where she wanted to be. A
song that can describe her personality is I Won t Give Up by Jason Mraz. Her determination is heavily
described: Well, I won t give up on us, even if the skies get rough, I m giving you all my love, I m still
looking up (Mraz song lyrics). When the lyrics describe that the person won t give up on us, Aggie is
not giving up on the family. The skies in the lyrics describe the searching and determination for the
girls. When Wil was searching for Elle and Skye, Aggie was at a hotel looking up at the sky to
reassure herself that Wil will find her girls. This song simply concludes that they will not give up
during the hard times and will put love into everything that happens. Elle has grown up to be a placid
and ingenuous girl who enjoys trying new things. She is tricked into a beauty pageant and has high
hopes that she will win. Jack and Elle go inside a building with a few other people who look deft and
professional. The judges were specifically looking at physical features such as the hair and face
structure. Elle became excited about the pageant: Elle had never personally worn something so soft
and silky before, and she loved the way she looked in it. The dress was fancy

Electromagnetism Studies the Relationship Between...
Electromagnetism is the branch of physics that studies the relationship between electricity and
magnetism. Electromagnets are magnets that uses an electric current to attract metal. Electromagnets
have many parts that make up them and are used in many things.
Electromagnetism has a history that dates back over 200 years. The year 1700 was the first
demonstration of an electromagnet, yet scientists didn t know much about electromagnetism (Bellis 1).
In 1820, scientists had just started to get deep into electromagnets, Hans Oersted discovered that a
conductor carrying an electric current was surrounded by a magnetic field (Bellis 2). Hans Oersted
discovered this because his compass reacted to a battery when he connected them using wires. ...

A cyclotron is a device used for scientific research in which subatomic charged particles are
accelerated in a constant magnetic field. Magnetic fields supply a powerful research tool without
which modern physics could have grown to its present extent. A typical magnet consists of iron,
nickel, and steel. All magnets have a north and south pole, the opposite poles are attracted to each
other and similar poles repel each other. A magnet is something that attracts metal. There are many
types of magnets, there are, ceramic, alnico, neodymium, samarium, and of course, electromagnets
(Wilson 2007). The most commonly used magnet. To make a magnet, you just encourage the domains
to face the same way (Wilson 2007). To encourage the domains by placing it in a north south direction
and strike it with a hammer. Striking it with a hammer make the domains lineup by jarring them
sometimes in the same direction (Wilson 2007). If you place it magnetic field then it can also gain a
magnetic field of itself. Each domain is a tiny magnet. Each domain has magnetic domains pointing in
different directions, canceling each other out (Wilson 2007). Magnets range from weak magnets, to
strong magnets that can even lift a car. The strength of a magnet depends on how hard it is to
magnetize it (Wilson 2007). Magnets are made by rubbing a permanent magnet along a piece metal
for a long time repeatedly. When the same poles touch each other, magnetic lines clash together. To

Psychological Theories And Criminal Behavior
The psychological theories assume that criminal behavior is a result of individual differences in
thinking processes. There are many different psychological theories; however, they all believe that it is
the person s thoughts and feelings that dictate their actions. The problems with thinking can lead to
criminal behavior. I think one of the benefits of criminal justice professionals studying psychological
theories is an attempt to measure the intelligence associated with criminals and why they commit
crimes. The belief is also to shift the thinking process from the idea that criminals are biologically
inferior to the idea that they are intellectually inferior. (Bohm Vogel, 2011) The psychological theories
indicate that certain mental condition like personal disturbance ... Show more content on

see people in different views, to better understand the world in which we live, and make communities
safer. Therefore, when analyzing psychological theories, you learn the failures in psychological
development, learned behaviors of aggression and violence, inherent personality traits, and the
relationship of criminality to mental illness. (Boyd, 2017) The psychology theories allow criminal
justice professionals to understand more about how the body and mind work together. The psychology
theories help to identify personality traits that are linked to aggressive criminal behavior. The
psychology theories clarify that crime may be understood as a means by which individuals satisfy
their basic human needs. Therefore, criminal justice professionals can benefit from being able to read
criminals, second guess them and steer their thought patterns in the different direction towards a better

The Potential Real World Impact Of Research
Introduction
In order to measure the potential real world impact of research, it is important to measure validity.
Validity explores the degree to which evidence and theory support the researcher s interpretations of
the various data the researcher measures (Moss, 2010). A researcher can evaluate a study based on
many criteria including internal validity and external validity to determine whether the study is valid
(Hernon, 1991). Among various types of validity, in particular, external validity refers to the extent to
which study findings can be generalized to a population at large while internal validity relates to
whether a study correctly measures what it proposes to gauge (Hernon, 1991). While many types of
validity are helpful to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words, a study that can be repeated with similar results is said to have external validity.
According to Thorkildsen (2010), the generalizability of external validity is guaranteed if a researcher
finds his or her results to be consistent even when the population studied changes, or the time or place
is altered. Connaway Powell (2010) mention that there are studies that are performed for the sole
purpose of checking external validity of a study through replication studies. By replicating a study, it
is possible for researchers to determine whether a study has external validity and, therefore, whether
the study s results might be likely to occur in the real world. The experiment itself might fail when it is
repeated, thereby suggesting that the results will not be generalizable.
The impact of the sample selected in particular cannot be underestimated. According to Zhang (2014),
researchers begin with subjects, and the subject selection affects the research design. The sampling
methods impact external validity because the results can tell the study s reader about the population
parameters through the results of the study (Sproull, 2012). As an example of a way that the sample
can affect the external validity, Hernon (1991) noted that a study might be drawn from a list of all
school media specialists in the Southwest and from that population, researchers could draw a random
selection.

The, Misery, By Richard Farnsworth As Buster, And Frances...
Imagine being rescued after suffering a major car wreck, only to be kidnapped by your number one
fan. Starring Kathy Bates as Annie Wilkes, James Caan as Paul Sheldon, Richard Farnsworth as
Buster, and Frances Sternhagen as Virginia, Misery is a psychological thriller produced and directed
by Rob Reiner. In this 1990 psychological thriller film you will experience thrill, action, suspense,
despair and misery, all powered by composer Marc Shaiman and his use of music to set the mood for
the audience.
Films and movies are a composition of elements that make that essentially come together as one to
form a piece of art. Although a film is not complete with missing elements, some elements when used
out of place can break a movie. Some of these elements include, but are not limited to, a character s
costume and makeup, lighting, camera direction, acting, special effects, and, sound effects and music.
In some films one element may be the overriding factor but when put together, these elements work
together to please an audience.
Each element on its own, has an important role it plays in the creation of a film or movie. In Misery,
for example, the choice of music composition used for major scenes in the movie helps to build on the
plot, suspense and rising action, on many other scenes, the fast paced music led to nail biting and hair
pulling moments. Without the wise choice of the fast paced string, Classical music, Misery would
have not been the psychological thriller it

Cultural Encounter By Ana Menendez
Cultural encounter can be used as a concept often used in current academic and public discussions on
modern societies conditions. It studies the cultural identities, the symbolic interpretation and
representational forms which comes through a cross cultural and international and global perspective.
(Roskilde University, M.A. Cultural Encounters). And it can impact on the individual growth and be
quite intense. The cultural encounter growth can be noticed by placing the situations where we can
find our understanding of self as individual, the world and how we believe in how things are or should
be and finding this understanding can be severely challenged. (Montuori. A Fahim. U. Cross Cultural

Nelson Mandela’s Fight for South African’s Justice
Many countries around the world have suffered for years to gain political rights and freedom for all
people. These countries did not have many resources to help people in their poor conditions. One such
country is South Africa, where many South Africans were treated unfairly under apartheid, a law,
made in 1950, to separate the African minorities from the white population living in South Africa.1
The Whites banned interracial and intersexual relations between Blacks and non Black people, and the
Black people owned only about 20% of the land.2 Black people were not given political
representation, not given satisfactory facilities, and could not conduct any labor unions against the
White population. Even though South Africa was free from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Africans, though, were not planning to back out that easily. For close to 40 years, the ANC was
trying its best to settle African grievances, to give them additional rights, besides just freedom. They
had decided to protest against the apartheid system through methods of peaceful demonstrations.
Many people fought, and went to jail, but there was not one mode of violence conducted at all in these
protests. 13 Mandela pointed out the shooting at Sharpeville in 1960, where 69 people were killed and
178 demonstrators were wounded. Mandela and his colleague continued to fight, not listening to the
government. Nelson believed in the words of the Universal Declaration of Human rights, that the will
of the people shall be the basis of authority of the Government . 14 The people had rights to choose
what they wanted to do in their homeland, and no one was going to stop them from claiming these
rights. Mandela also described why he and his organizers decided to choose sabotage as their method
of violence instead of guerilla warfare or open revolutions. 15 Sabotage was a way to show hope for
improving relations between races, and if people followed Mandela s thoughts, then there might have
been a possibility of a democracy in South Africa. Lastly, Mandela pointed out that the White people

A Picture Of Failure At Show Santiago s Persistence,...
The author starts the book with a picture of failure to show Santiago s persistence, passion, and
courage in the face of defeat.
Symbolism is when something abstract is represented with something concrete. Santiago is described
as, thin and gaunt with deep wrinkles in the back of his neck , brown blotches of benevolent skin
cancer , his hands had deep creased scars from handling heavy fish , and everything about him was old
except for his eyes and they were the same color as the sea and where cheerful and undefeated.
Santiago s hand scars are his battle wounds and shows that his nature is to overcome obstacles in his
path. His wrinkles and cancer spots make him look like a simple old man not concerned with looks
showing us his humility. Also his eyes that look undefeated are symbolic of his hope and
perseverance.
Santiago s home is constructed of tough bud shield from the royal palm. It has basic furniture, a bed, a
chair, and a table. The house has dirt floors and on the floor is a place to cook with charcoal. Santiago,
like his home, is simple, modest, and strong. Even though he lives somewhat on the goodwill of other
people, he manages to survive and endure. Santiago isn t caught up about when he attained humility
but recognizes that he does have this trait and is proud of it without being arrogant. Santiago shows
that humility and pride aren t mutually different and can be one in the same. Hemingway does admire
Santiago through the book. He is constantly

My Personal Statement On My Life
For as long as I can remember, I was told I could do anything I put my mind to if I was willing to put
forth the effort. My parents played the essential role of providing resources that would instill a good
work ethic and passion in me. While my options are limitless, I have spent most of my academic
career preparing me for a future in scientific research and academia. Enumerable factors have molded
me into the passionate person that I am today, so the answer to Who are you? is not simple but is
rather a culmination of life experiences.
I learned the values of respect, honor, and drive from both my biological family and my church family.
I grew up going to Sunday school in the Episcopal Church where I learned what it meant to have
morals and how to be an all around decent human being. At home, my parents taught me similar
values and lead by example while explaining the importance of kindness towards others. Growing up
in the Episcopal Church has grounded me in such a way that I can find a home and family anywhere
in the world simply by finding a church with the iconic red doors. My spirituality and dedication to
service formed me into a caring person who can never say no to someone in need. The church has
always been my outlet where I can find peace and serenity, so in return I dedicate my time to giving
back in honor of all it has provided for me. The Youth Service Organization (YSO) at my home church
taught me the benefits of giving back to a community who gives

CRITICAL APPRAISAL OF A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW AND NARRATIVE REVIEW RELATED

The author of this paper is a nurse educator working in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) within the north
west region of England. For the purpose of this paper, the author has chosen a systematic review (SR)
and a narrative review (NR) and aims to critically analyse these reviews using the Critical Appraisal
Skills Programme (CASP) tool. The CASP tool has been developed by the Solutions for Public Health
(SPH) (formerly known as Public Health Resources Unit), which is controlled by the National Health
Service (NHS) (SPH, 2006). The tool is based on the guidelines formed by a group of clinicians at

The author feels that using two different tools would increase the rigour of the appraisal and its
relevance to practice. In the forthcoming sections of this essay, the author will attempt critically
analyse the two papers using the CASP tool for SRs.
Formulation of the research question
Formulation of the research question guides the type of data collection for the study and states what
the study will hypothesise (Polit and Beck, 2010). The CASP tool acknowledges that clearly focused
research question will describe the population studied, the intervention given and the outcomes
considered (SPH, 2006). The research question in the SR is clearly formulated. The population of
patients studied were general and critically ill hospital patients, the intervention was a SR and
outcome to be assessed was about the safety of the CPOE and clinical decision support systems or
CDSS (CDSS is a computerised medication prescription system) based on hierarchy of outcome
measures (kindly refer to table 2 of SR) within ICU settings. Likewise, in the NR, the population of
patients studied were general and critically ill patients, the analysis was done via a NR and the
purpose of the study was to assess the results of CPOE on clinical and surrogate outcomes in
hospitalised patients in both general and critical care settings.
Based on this, the author acknowledges that the SR has adopted a narrow and more specific research
question as

Confucianism, Daoism, and Legalism
In ancient China, many different rulers tried to unify and rule the country using a variety of methods
Confucianism, Daoism, and Legalism to name a few. Each philosophy had its own set of rules of how
people should act both in public and privately. The overall goal of each philosophy was to set a
standard of acceptable living that would ensure harmony and success for the society. However, each
was different and thus had different results. The best way for the people of China to succeed in a
harmonious, respectable society occurred when both Confucianism and Legalism were combined.
Confucianism resulted from a Chinese philosopher named Kongfuzi (551 479 B.C.E), also known as
Confucius, becoming disheartened with the way the government ... Show more content on

If there is dissent and it is not dealt with using corrective measures, then the government, and thereby
society, will fall apart. One such example of this can be found in the Han Feizi document. It says, The
law alone leads to political order. If laws are adjusted to the time, there is good government. If
government fits the age, there will be great accomplishment. Therefore, when the people are naïve, if
you regulate them with fame, there will be good government; when everybody in the world is
intelligent, if you discipline them with penalties, they will obey. While time is moving on, if laws do
not shift accordingly, there will be misrule; while abilities are divers, if prohibitions are not changed,
the state will be dismembered...Indeed, if the state is orderly, the people are safe; if affairs are
confused, the country falls into peril...Yet everybody s likes and dislikes should be regulated by the
superior.
It is no surprise that the philosophy of legalism did not last long. Once the emperor died, people began
to dissent and voice their opinions of being treated in such a manner. The next emperor, Emperor
Gaozu of the Early Han Dynasty, determined that by combining Confucianism and Legalism would
ensure a more accepted and obeyed political system. By allowing the people to follow certain rules
that prescribed their status obligations while altering the laws created by Legalism, the society ran
more smoothly for

Animals for Testing
Imagine a poor, tiny mouse sitting in a cage. It is crouching down in the corner, quivering in fear. It
has been injected with medications in the process of being approved for human use. It is slowly and
painfully dying. We use animals for testing new products, like medications and beauty products that
we end up using. Why should animals be put through such pain and agony for something we need? We
are selfish and think we are the superior species, so we use animals instead of us. In my opinion,
animals should not be used for testing and researching new products. Each year, more than 100
million animals are killed during testing. Some of those animals end up dying before the experiment is
even over. Others may survive through the experiment but end up dying shortly after. Most of the
testing is a waste of time anyway. According to the Food and Drug Association (FDA), 92 out of 100
drug tests that are passed on animals end up failing in humans. If 92% of drug tests fail, what s the use
in testing on animals? It is misleading, and we end up wasting money and time. It only prolongs the
suffering of people waiting for a cure. We rely too heavily on animals for testing, that if they drug
fails, we won t even give it a chance in humans. The drug could end up proving to be extremely
helpful to humans. One example of this is the drug Lipitor. It failed during animal testing but was later
proved to be effective in humans. If we would test medications in humans first, we wouldn t have

Role Of Pharmacy In Pharmacy
Pharmacy as a profession plays a very important part in the overall wellbeing of a patient. This is an
occupation that deals with the administration and pharmacology of medications. A pharmacist is part
of the team that ensures that a patient is nursed to full health, thereby improving the quality of life. I
was twelve years old when I decided that whatever occupation I end up doing, I will be positively
impacting the health of people. I made this decision one summer after school just let out when I got
inflicted with typhoid. I was very upset not just because of the severe pain, but also because I couldn t
go out and play since the illness didn t seem to be dissipating even after a few days. It is common
practice in Nigeria for people to self medicate with drugs like Paracetamol and Panadol. This is
because hospital bills are very expensive and treatment doesn t begin until payment is made.
Therefore, my mom administered these painkillers to me for the first couple of days although my
condition continued to worsen. Finally, we went to the hospital where I was diagnosed with typhoid
and directed to a pharmacist. A few days after taking the medications given to me by the pharmacist, I
started feeling better. This just goes to show that a doctor s job is incomplete without a pharmacist.
There have also been other instances where I have marveled at the wonder that is medicine. For
example, when my mom got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and it wasn t an issue so long as she

Stress Management Techniques Analysis
The four techniques that I used to help manage my stress were art therapy, time
management/scheduling, social support and doing a hobby to take my mind off of stressors. I was
hesitant to practice these techniques because I feel like I am able to manage my stress well anyways,
but as I started consciously using these techniques, I realized that my mind was a lot clearer and I did
not feel as overwhelmed. I was already doing these techniques on a smaller scale, but when I decided
to go all out and focus on using them, I realized that I was not that good at managing my stress, I was
just used to having this stress in my life.

try them out because I need to do it for this assignment and I figured that it could not be any more

now a hobby and something that I can do to relieve stress. If I had not started practicing art therapy
then I might not have discovered my love for watercolor. I will definitely continue to use art therapy to

This scene shows Gloucester that his fate is in the hands of the Gods and they will take his life only
when it is his time to die and that he must continue his life journey to find out more about himself.
During this discovery, Gloucester s loyal son is with him, in disguise. Edgar acts as his guide but he
does not reveal himself to his father in this scene because it would interfere with Gloucester s
recovery.
Act 4, scene 6 displays Gloucester s sorrow for misjudging his children and the remorse he feels
towards Edgar. This scene leads into Edgar revealing himself to his father. After Edgar s confession,
Gloucester immediately dies from joy and grief. Even though death is the end result for Gloucester, he
is able to make peace with his son before he dies. It is tragic that Gloucester did not come to the
realization that his son was with him for a long while and that Edgar did not reveal himself sooner, but
it is better late than never to be reunited with loving children. Now that Gloucester has seen his
forgiving son again, which is very important to Gloucester, the Gods find it an appropriate time to take
his life: Gloucester has accomplished what he needed to. Similar to Gloucester, Act 4, scene 6 leads
into Lear making a significant discovery of his life: he is not perfect. In this scene, Lear experiences
madness but is

Music And Its Effect On Our Lives
Section 2: To many people, music is a significant part to their daily lives and its role varies depending
on the individual. I personally use music as a form of escape from reality and a tool to help me focus
in certain situations. Other use music as an entertainer, an energizer, a coping mechanism or even as a
stimulant. Due to this, music is able to play a developmental role in creating one s identity. In 2007,
Tomas Chamorro Premuzic and Adrian Furnham, studied how 21st century listeners use music in their
daily lives and how an individual s personality affects their listening behaviors. After conducting a
survey in which a total of 314 people took, they came to the conclusion that personality and cognitive
ability partly determine the way in which we experience music (Chamorro Premuzic, Furnham, 175).
From their survey, they found out that many people use music for impression management,
influencing other people s perceptions towards oneself, as well as emotional regulation and coping.
Some interesting findings from their research were: extroverts use music as background stimulation,
people with lower IQ s tend to use music in more emotional rather than intellectual ways and prefer
upbeat and conventional music, while on the other hand, people with higher IQ s prefer more complex
and reflective music. The results also showed that an individual s emotional stability is connected to
their uses of music. Less stable individuals proved to be more sensitive to the

The Era Of The Renaissance
Italy can be looked at as the home of the renaissance and consequently the immergence of great art.
Artists such as Michelangelo, Botticelli, Da Vinci, and Raphael are some of the greats and are looked
at for standards. But what about the artists whose lives are mysteries, and their works that were
influenced by the greats? These artists hold just as much importance in the history of art as do the
artist s whose names can be recalled off the top of an average person s head. During the sixteenth
century things began to change in the art world, and that change was the Baroque. This new style of
art brought a revolution to how subject matter was painted, it brought upon ... a radical reconsideration
of art and its purposes... (249) and how artists of all ranks could learn to paint the up and coming style
of Baroque.
Renaissance art created standards and principles that every painting and artist had to utilize in order to
even be considered good, let alone great. Characteristics such as the phenomenon of natural light, one
point and linear perspective, and highly idealized religious or mythological figures changed into the
Baroque techniques of manipulating light to create emphasis, dramatizing the illustrated allegory, and
unidealized realism. Additionally, ... the Baroque trend dominated and gave its name to the age... [but
it was the presence of both styles] that give the Italian seventeenth century its richness and diversity.

What Are The Causes Of The Partition Of India
Knocking the doors to history, the history that takes us to the world of facts, the Partition of India was
just an event crushed under the old pages of Indian history. But this event was the greatest man made
catastrophe which not only divided the nation into two parts the New India for the Hindus and
Pakistan for the Muslims, but also led to the massacre of millions in this forced dislocation. It was
considered one of the largest mass migrations in the history of India killing two million people1 and
dislocating 14 million Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs from the areas of Punjab and Bengal2.
The agreement of dividing the colonial India into two separate state Pakistan having a majority of
Muslims and India with the majority of Hindus, was an

Philip II of Macedonia Essay
Philip II of Macedonia became king when he was 23 years old in very dire situations in 359 B.C.E.
(Sekunda 4). There were threats from barbarians north of Macedonia, and threats from the cunning
Greek southern cities (4). Philip had to act quickly to gain control so he needed to create an army (4).
He had spent time in Thebes as a hostage and gained military knowledge from the work of
Epaminondas, one of the greatest generals of the day ( Philip II ). He armed his military with a sarissa,
a pike that, at about 16 feet long, had a greater reach than Greek weapons ( Philip II ). This weapon
made his army very powerful and allowed his phalanxes to strike first ( Philip II ). In 338 B.C.E.,

Philip and Cleopatra soon have a daughter and name her Europa (34). Philip is preparing for his
invasion, and without a male heir to the throne, everyone is concerned about what will happen to the
empire if he is killed in battle (35). Philip follows the advice of Demaratus and sends for his son
Alexander (35). Soon after Alexander returns, Philip is offered a proposal of marriage between his
mentally handicapped son, Arrhidaeus, and the daughter of the Carian throne (35). Alexander goes
behind his father and sends the famed actor, Thessalus, to negotiate the marriage with him instead
(35). Philip finds out and tells Alexander that he has showed little hope for being a worthy king (36).
Alexander has just returned to the empire and does not want to create a new rift with Philip so he
readily admits he had behaved imprudently (36). With all of the family distractions, Philip tries to
focus on his plans for the invasion. He does have one other family matter to take care of before he
leaves. Philip fears that Olympias brother, Alexander of Epirus, will not keep his allegiance with him
since he divorced Olympias (36). He arranges the marriage of his daughter Cleopatra to Alexander to
secure his allegiance (36). Philip knows he will be gone in battle for a long while, so he invites many
friends, dignitaries, and ambassadors from all of Greece and beyond to the wedding ceremony (36).

The Silent Pool, The Tell Tale Heart, And Things Fall Apart
With many of the texts that were assigned to us, each one dealt with the relationship between insiders
and outsiders differently. The insider and outsider relationship varies between both the idea of inner
conflict and outside conflict. I will be explaining these relationships from the texts of Gooboora, The
Silent Pool, The Tell Tale Heart, and Things Fall Apart. Gooboora, The Silent Pool deals with the
relationship of the Aboriginal people of Australia and colonialization, while The Tell Tale Heart deals
with an outsider s effect on the main character s subconscious. Things Fall Apart, however, is a
mixture of both conflicts that were mentioned. Each of the three texts show how the outside negatively
effects the inside.
In the poem, Gooboora, The Silent Pool by Oodgeroo Noonuccal, it shows some aspects of the
aftermath from colonialism in Australia and how it has affected the Aboriginal people. In Amanda
Woods s thesis, she explains that Noonuccal s poems are a means that speak for the Aboriginal people.
With Gooboora, The Silent Pool, it talks about the lost images of a pool that is sacred to the Aboriginal
people. The aftermath of colonialization has left only a memory for the people. This story was set after
dreamtime, or a time before colonialization. She further explains (Woods)
Woods s gives a very interesting insight on the poem. She does state that Gooboora is an actual pool in
Australia that was sacred to the Aboriginals, but was renamed to Lake Karboora

Analysis Of Hannibal Lecter Mask
a) An allusion that appeared in Ryan Holiday s article is when he used Hannibal Lecter mask , to
describe how Trump is evil and bipolar (6). The best way to simplify the meaning of an allusion, is an
indirect quote towards a particular thing and person; however, also grasping the reference which gets
the point across. Since the author makes the comment of Hannibal Lecter the reader can make the
reference of the allusion that Trump is like the character of the movies which is a cannibal; therefore,
the author paints Trump as inhumane (Holiday 6).
b) When the author of Here s Why Smart People wrote they heard the mostly unearthly howling of
wolves in front of them... the men knew they were near he used pathos to affect the readers emotions
(Holiday 6). This is an example of pathos because the author is using the words unearthly to instill a
sense of fear which is what pathos is, using the readers emotions to invoke the reader to feel
something while reading.
c) An example of ethos being used in Holiday s article was when he used the examples of the cycles of
boom and bust, but specifically the one about Howard Dean s campaign in 2004. The campaign of
Dean was very successful because it had a lot of attention and enthusiasm, but in the end he finished
third (3). Ethos is how the author shows the ethics in his argument by showing the credibility of his
point of view with believable examples. In this case, since the argument of his ethos does backup on

Essay on Sharon Olds The Possessive
The Possessive
Teenage rebellion is typically portrayed in stories, films, and other genres as a testosterone based
phenomenon. There is an overplayed need for one to acknowledge a boy s rebellion against his father,
his life direction, the system, in an effort to become a man, or rather an adult. However, rarely is the
female addressed in such a scenario. What happens when little girls grow up? Do they rebel? Do they,
in a sudden overpowering rush of estrogen, deny what has been taught to them from birth and shed
their former youthful façades? Do they turn on their mothers? In Sharon Olds poem, The Possessive,
the reader is finally introduced to the female version of the popular coming of age theme as a simple

The next image Olds puts into play is that of the vision of her daughter reborn as the enemy. Olds
describes the daughter s hair by saying, each strand now cuts/ both ways. The blade of new bangs
hangs over her red brown eyes/ like carbon steel. This is not a typical description of hair. Olds
specifically compares the young girl s hair to a freshly sharpened weapon. With words such as cuts,
blade, and carbon steel, Olds builds up an image of a lethal weapon such as a knife or perhaps sword,
weapons both clearly used for battle. Olds further describes the girl s hair by acknowledging that all
the little/ spliced ropes are sliced. The line break in the poem which leaves the phrase all the little
alone to be followed up by second line describing the sliced hair, adds to Olds image. All the little
appears as a memory of the mother of her former daughter, a memory that is quickly destroyed by the
second image of those little strands now taking on a threatening sliced form. In addition, the line also
holds a visual separation between the two different images that occupy the mother s same thought

ALS The Fight for Life
One may wonder how ALS works through the body. The meaning is defined within the name
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Amyotrophic means that the muscles become small and weak causing
them to break down. Lateral occurs where the nerves nourish the muscles, these nerves are located on
both sides of the spinal cord.
Sclerosis means that the hardened or scarred tissue develops in place of the healthy nerves within the
affected part of the spinal cord. Additionally, the nerves, or motor neurons, that control the muscle
movement are divided into two categories: Upper motor neurons and lower motor neurons. The upper
motor neurons send messages to the spinal cord from the brain. The lower motor neurons send

after school hours. 18 25 hours per week
B. How applicable is this work experience to your future employment goals?
Answer: These answers would vary also because my assumptions that the work study would be
somewhat helpful for future employment.

Answer: The Variable in this question is both qualitative and quantitative. The reason it is both is
because we are evaluating apparent qualities. The reason it is quantitative is because I would also be
measuring how effective and or useful work study is for the students.
(e) Is the proportion of responses 3 very to question B a statistic or a parameter?
Answer: Question B would be a parameter, because the group of people that I am gather information
from will be small groups. Usually parameters have the smaller groups. These groups are normally
small enough to measure.
(f) Suppose only 40% of the students you selected for the sample respond. What is the nonresponse
rate? Do you think the nonresponse rate might introduce bias into the study? Explain.
Answer: If that were to occur then I would just have to work with what I received. Also the
nonresponsive rate would have to be included. The nonresponsive rate would be the other 60%.
Unless there are other factors involved such as bias. Yes, because the number of responses on a Likert
scale may force responses that do not reflect the respondent s feelings or experience.
(g) Would it be appropriate to generalize the results of your study to all work study students in the
nation? Explain.
Answer: No, because not all work study over the nation. So that would be a rather hard comparison.

As I stated in the abstract, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is the unexpected death of a healthy infant
in its sleep usually under the age of one. It is also known as crib death because the death usually
occurs in the crib. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome claims the lives of approximately 2,500 infants
each year. The majority of SIDS deaths occur between 2 and 4 month year olds. The cause of SIDS is
usually known and there are a number of causes. Causes of SIDS include: smoking or drinking during
pregnancy, inadequate prenatal responsibility, prematurity, inexperienced mothers, smoking near or

Catcher In The Rye Symbolism
Catcher in the Rye Formal Essay In the novel The Catcher in the Rye, J.D Salinger uses symbolism to
detail and characterize Holden on his journey of discovery and coming of age. Using this to his
advantage, Salinger repeatedly uses symbols to demonstrate Holden s unconscious resistance towards
change and thereby his fear of growing up. Throughout the novel we see how this character is being
unraveled through three symbols: his childish interests towards the ducks in central park, his fondness
of the Museum of Natural History, and his misinterpretation of lyrics of the poem Coming Thro the
Rye. Holden s infatuation with the ducks becomes apparent from very early in the book and
establishes not only the beginnings of his character but also his childish thoughts and behaviors. ...

That s all I d do all day. (Salinger 173) For Holden his dream to become the Catcher in the Rye
idealizes his own vision and view of growing up. His description of himself catching children from
falling of a crazy cliff, is symbolic of his desire to safeguard children s innocence from falling off the
cliff which represents the fall to adulthood and therefore loss of innocence. Just like how the truck
comes saves the ducks from the hardships of winter, Holden sees himself as the savior which rescues
the children from the hardships of growing up. It is however this very desire to save someone else, in
which Holden uses as an excuse to distance and comfort himself from accepting the fact that he the
one who fears growing up. In addition, Holden s misinterpretation of the lyrics from body meet a body
refers to two people meeting in the rye and having sex. This is in complete contrast with his own more
innocent interpretation of body catch a body, which inspired his crazy dream. It further shows how

How Does Toni Morrison Use Names In Song Of Solomon
Macon Dead, Pilate, Reba, Hagar, First Corinthians, Milkman, Circe and Guitar. Toni Morrison,
author of Song of Solomon, has a greater purpose for using these unique names. From the onset of the
novel, Morrison s use of names is significant and deliberate throughout the text. For instance, Not
Doctor Street, originally named Mains Street acknowledging the only black doctor the city allowed,
hints at the social tensions between black and white people in this society. Additionally, the name
Blood Bank was chosen to describe a rough part of the city. Morrison uses this name to expose the
differing social classes and racism that exists in the town. In addition to physical places, Morrison also
picked the names of each character intentionally. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

about it (45). Guitar s name originates from this very event in his childhood. In addition to that fact
that Guitar is simply unable to obtain the guitar he desires, Morrison displays the unattainability of the
guitar by explaining It was one of those things where you guess how many beans in the big glass jar

store because it makes the guitar appear as a trophy to winning the contest. This connects to the idea
of contest and athletics as people compete with the attentions of winning or obtaining money, trophies,
or pride. Just like how the death of his own father makes him unattainable Guitar choses to go to war
with racism. Guitar notices racism present in society ...When a Negro child, negro woman, or negro

The Northwest brand is gradually being phased out and being replaced by Delta s name and brand.
During the integration period, Delta and Northwest will continue to operate their own branded aircraft
until the integration process is complete. This has given delta a combined market share of
approximately 18% (Gayle, 2008)
Effects of Market Structure
In the United States there are generally two types of airlines: legacy carriers, which are defined as
airlines that specifically operated interstate routes prior to the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978, and
low cost airlines that compete solely on the basis of offering the lowest price per ticket within the
market in which they are operating
Market conduct
Market structure can be defined as patterns of behaviour by enterprises in an effort to adjust to the
markets in which they operate (buy or sell). Pricing strategies and collusive behaviour mergers are a
few dimensions of market conduct. It is the industry norm for a legacy carrier to offer service to most
popular destinations; Delta reducing routes to a similar schedule as the low cost airlines is not an
option in the multi billion dollar industry. In order to gain market share from low cost airlines, Delta
must create a value proposition that differentiates itself from its competitors. Many customers will pay
a premium if the level of service provided is higher than the low cost, no frills

My First Day Of Grade At Springfield Essay
I remember my first day of 4th grade at Springfield local. I was nervous, the teacher who would be
teaching me was known to have made students do a lot of writing. Of course I have written out small
sentences and maybe some alphabetical practice on paper before, but I have never written thoughts or
ideas that coursed through my nine year old brain. We were advised to bring a journal to keep all year
throughout the class, to write about whatever topic the teacher desired to assign to the classroom every
single day. I remember walking in and pulling out my green five star notebook and opening to the first
page. I was so nervous. Friends from grades above me told me how difficult the class was because of
the crazy amounts of writing. Our teacher was not known for being the nicest either, other kids would
say she yelled a lot at the students and was generally a mean person. All of this, of course, intimidates
a nine year old kid. The teacher told the class to write about our summer break. I had no clue where to
even start. All the little things I did with friends, the time I went to the beach or of course just being
out of school. I was overwhelmed. I now know being overwhelmed in writing is not a curse, but a
blessing. Having so much substance to write about and having trouble picking from that list of ideas is
better than going into a paper completely blind and with nothing on your mind. With all of these ideas
and memories running through my small head, I chose to write

What Are The Characteristics Of The Victorian Era
The Victorian Era was a period of great change in English literature where most works were directly
influence by social and political problems of 19th century England. The Victorian Era was a period
spanning Queen Victoria s reign from 1837 to 1901. This period proceeded the Romantic period in
English History which had poetry as its main source of literature. Nevertheless, the most important
genre in the Victorian Period was the novel. In contrast, the Romantic Era, the era prior to the
Victorian Era, most influential genre was poetry. Most of the major literary artist came from England,
even though, there were also authors from other countries in the same time period of the Victorian Era.

Undoubtedly, the literature of this era was relatively easier to read than works from other eras, the plot
was more interesting and easier to understand, and the main protagonist of the novel were the same
people who read it (first person point of view) so the reader was deeply involved in the character s
feelings and adventures. Moreover, the setting of the novels was big, well known, cities that the reader
probably already is familiar with. The Victorian literature characteristics were mostly composed of
social issues that plagued the middle class, and the major changes the population were seeing with
industrialization. Some notable characteristics were for example: industrialization, as seen with
Charlotte Brontë novel Shirley ; serialization, as seen with Charles Dickens The Woman in White ;
social class, taking for example Jane Austen s novel Pride and Prejudice ; Science vs. Religion, the
idea that science could explain what religion could not was challenged by Charles Darwin in his book
The Origin of the Species ; progress, as is the case for Gerge Eliot s novel The Middlemarch ; and
finally, utilitarianism, being manifested in Charles Dickens s novel Hard Times . Most of the
characteristics are caused by Britain s social, industrial, and political changes

Priscilla Council Biology 1110 February 23, 2010 Research Assignment Where Have All the Bees
Gone? Morgan E. Peck Discover Magazine 2009 Summary Each year since 2006, bees have gradually
been disappearing from their hives or dying off. Bees have died off before in the past. This is called
colony collapse disorder or CCD. In the past CCD was cause by mites or infections, but now this is
caused because of the commercial agricultural farmers. Bees play a key part in pollination. When the
crops are pollinated by the bees, they are capable of producing the fruits or vegetables the human
population eats. Farmers primarily depend upon the bees to pollinate their crops. The honeybees were
the most adaptable bees out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whatever the proximate cause, it increasingly appears that the bees are succumbing to a long ignored
underlying condition inbreeding. Decades of agricultural and breeding practices meant to maximize
pollinating efficiency have limited honeybees genetic diversity at a time when they need it the most.
Addressing CCD may therefore require more than a simple fix. We need to have a diverse set of
genetic raw material so we can find bees resistant to disease, says Steve Sheppard, an entomologist at
Washington State University. Genetic diversity is an important part of the solution. The problem is
hardly trivial. A third of the total human diet depends on plants pollinated by insects, predominantly
honeybees. In North America honeybees pollinate more than 90 crops with an annual value totaling
almost $15 billion. Indeed, that importance lies at the root of what went wrong. In trying to make bees
more productive, apiarists have torn the insects from their natural habitats and the routines they
mastered over millions of years. As a result, today s honeybees are sickly, enslaved, and mechanized.
We ve looked at bees as robots that would keep on trucking no matter what, says Heather Mattila of
Wellesley College, who studies honeybee behavior and genetics. They can t be pushed and pushed. In
the beginning, honeybees and their partners, the flowers, drove an

Causes And Failures Of The Crusades
The Crusades were a set of wars between the Catholic Church and Muslims. These wars lasted from
1096 A.D. to 1291. The Crusades are known as successful failures because two of the nine crusades
were successful, the First and Third. On November 27, 1095, Pope Urban II called for a crusade to
help the Byzantine s take back the city of Jerusalem. The First Crusade was led by Raymond of Saint
Gilles, Godfrey of Bouillon, Hugh of Vermandois, and Bohemond of Taranto. From 1096 to 1099, the
Catholics took back Nicea, Jerusalem, Antioch, Edessa, and Tripoli from the Turks. The First Crusade
s goal was to take back the Holy Lands, especially the city of Nicea. The city of Nicea, now modern
day Iznik, Turkey, is fifty five miles, southeast of Constantinople, where the Crusaders are coming
from. After months of fighting, the Seljuk Turks surrendered against the Crusaders, giving Nicea back
to the Catholic Church. After several weeks of war and conflict, Christian knights began to massacre
Jerusalem s Jewish and Muslim population. Christian knights were getting payback for the persecution
of the Christians from the Islamic law. Crusaders split the city of Jerusalem into four small states,
which were called the crusader states . By 1187, the Muslims took over Jerusalem once again, under
their leader, Salah al Din. Though the Muslims took Jerusalem back, the First Crusade was the closest
they saw to success. After conquering Jerusalem faster than expected, many of the

  • 2. Explain The Realism Of The Gulf War Abstract The Gulf War was a brief affair between Kuwait and Iraq in 1990 and 1991 when Iraq invaded Kuwait, yet many additional state and non state parties involved. Realism is a theory attempting to explain international relationships, which says that states struggle to hold power and will inevitably be in conflict with each other because of this. Although realism was a core theory before the Cold War, many believe that it is no longer applicable post Cold War. This paper has three parts. First, it will provide a brief explanation of the Gulf War. Second, it will explain realism including the view of realism s relevance post Cold War. Finally, it will discuss the realist interpretation of the actions of three large actors involved in the war: Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and the United States. This paper will critically discuss the Gulf War and investigate the dynamics and motivations of the three main actors involved from a realist perspective. This paper will prove that although realism is no longer overt, hidden intentions and behaviors line up to agree with a realist methodology in international relations. Realism is one theory that has been used to explain international relationships. However, many say that it is less relevant post Cold War due to changes in politics and interactions between states. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Where there were small moments of collaboration, it was only to position one s self to gain power by force. Countries have learned, as if through rote memorization, that it is not appropriate to attack other states in order to get what they want; they have been taught to try (or pretend to try) and work together. However, it is all too clear that as soon as the state does not get what it desires in the easy manner, the state acts in a manner explained by realism, which is to take it by sheer force, perhaps providing a guise for a ... My play takes place in a hotel room in New York of modern time. There is a family of four that checks into a particular room. The family of four is from Kanas visiting New York and has nowhere else to go but to stay in the hotel room for their vacation. The hotel room that the family checks is like a penthouse. But things start to get creepy as the days keeps going on to the next day. Everything in the room starts to look old and starts to look like the Victorian age period. • 4. Prejudice And Prejudice Prejudice is a burden that confuses the past, threatens the future, and renders the present inaccessible. This quote was written by Maya Angelou, and she wrote it because when she was at a very young age, she was raped because she was black. After she was raped all the kids at school made fun of her, so from that moment on she decided to not let anyone be prejudice or stereotype anyone. So she started writing quotes so other people can know how it feels and to share her story with everyone else. At that age in her life, everyone was fighting about racism, people were prejudice and stereotyping all the other people who were not the same skin color as them. People feel like they have to change, for example they change their looks, the way they talk, the way they dress, or even the way they act around people. Prejudice and stereotyping negatively affect people s identity. In today s world, people are using prejudice to negatively affect people s identity. People are prejudice in many different ways today. For example, you can walk into the lunchroom and see different cliques at different tables and not socializing with anyone but the people at their tables. Even in highschool, cheerleaders, and football players tend to only talk to their group of friends. There are teachers that try to mix it up by pairing popular kids with unpopular kids, but even that doesn t always work. In The Outsiders, The Greasers are very prejudice against the Socs, The Greasers live on the East side and don t have a lot of money. The Socs, on the other hand, live on the West side and have a lot of money and have anything they could ever ask for. The Socs think The Greasers are gross and poor kids and The Greasers think that The Socs are rich and super snobby kids. The Greasers and Socs think this about each other because they have never really had the chance to get to know each other, so the Greasers just assume that all of the Socs are bad and only like to jump people. On the other hand, the Socs think that the Greasers are just hoods and look for fights and are super weak and that they are way better than them. This negatively affect The Greasers lives because they think that they need to be something that they re not. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The First Camper With A Years Old Girl With Cerebral Palsy The first camper paired with me was Sarah a fourteen year old girl with cerebral palsy. Although she was bound to a wheelchair, she was as boy crazy as any fourteen year old girl. Because we were the same age, we bonded over several things, especially our love for Justin Bieber and One Direction. Our friendship did not start as a normal friendship would since I assisted her in all daily activities, but it was a friendship built on love and appreciation of one another. During the same year, I met Devon. She had Down Syndrome, but she did not let this disability stop her. She brought a positive attitude to all activities. Often, she would come up behind me and tickle me; if I laughed, Devon would laugh. On rainy days or before rest hour, she became Rainbow Dash and rapped in the cabin about anything and everything. My favorite side of Devon is the tomboy that came out during outdoor games. Although her mental disability inhibited her physical, it did not stop her trash talking her opponents. My most recent camper is Lizzie. Lizzie had a developmental disability; although she was thirteen, she had the mental capacity of a four year old. Sometimes, Lizzie had a hard time verbalizing what she wanted and became aggravated with her attendants for not understanding. The volunteers knew what would always cheer her up: her slinky. Lizzie asked me countless times a day if we could go to Cracker Barrel just to buy a small purple slinky. Lizzie was happy as long as she has her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Elle and Skye, two victims of human trafficking, were sold for sex and not knowing what would happen in the future. Aggie, the grandmother of Elle and Skye, is a determined woman who demands and believes that she will see her granddaughters again. In this journal, I will select one song that describes each character s personality that is described throughout the book. Aggie is an elated and determined woman that does not let anything get in her way. Her goal in this book is to find her two granddaughters that were taken by their father. She knew she was getting herself into a lot of trouble, but she ended up where she wanted to be. A song that can describe her personality is I Won t Give Up by Jason Mraz. Her determination is heavily described: Well, I won t give up on us, even if the skies get rough, I m giving you all my love, I m still looking up (Mraz song lyrics). When the lyrics describe that the person won t give up on us, Aggie is not giving up on the family. The skies in the lyrics describe the searching and determination for the girls. When Wil was searching for Elle and Skye, Aggie was at a hotel looking up at the sky to reassure herself that Wil will find her girls. This song simply concludes that they will not give up during the hard times and will put love into everything that happens. Elle has grown up to be a placid and ingenuous girl who enjoys trying new things. She is tricked into a beauty pageant and has high hopes that she will win. Jack and Elle go inside a building with a few other people who look deft and professional. The judges were specifically looking at physical features such as the hair and face structure. • 7. Electromagnetism Studies the Relationship Between... Electromagnetism is the branch of physics that studies the relationship between electricity and magnetism. Electromagnets are magnets that uses an electric current to attract metal. Electromagnets have many parts that make up them and are used in many things. Electromagnetism has a history that dates back over 200 years. The year 1700 was the first demonstration of an electromagnet, yet scientists didn t know much about electromagnetism (Bellis 1). In 1820, scientists had just started to get deep into electromagnets, Hans Oersted discovered that a conductor carrying an electric current was surrounded by a magnetic field (Bellis 2). Hans Oersted discovered this because his compass reacted to a battery when he connected them using wires. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A cyclotron is a device used for scientific research in which subatomic charged particles are accelerated in a constant magnetic field. Magnetic fields supply a powerful research tool without which modern physics could have grown to its present extent. A typical magnet consists of iron, nickel, and steel. All magnets have a north and south pole, the opposite poles are attracted to each other and similar poles repel each other. A magnet is something that attracts metal. There are many types of magnets, there are, ceramic, alnico, neodymium, samarium, and of course, electromagnets (Wilson 2007). The most commonly used magnet. To make a magnet, you just encourage the domains to face the same way (Wilson 2007). To encourage the domains by placing it in a north south direction and strike it with a hammer. Striking it with a hammer make the domains lineup by jarring them sometimes in the same direction (Wilson 2007). If you place it magnetic field then it can also gain a magnetic field of itself. Each domain is a tiny magnet. Each domain has magnetic domains pointing in different directions, canceling each other out (Wilson 2007). Magnets range from weak magnets, to strong magnets that can even lift a car. The strength of a magnet depends on how hard it is to magnetize it (Wilson 2007). Magnets are made by rubbing a permanent magnet along a piece metal for a long time repeatedly. When the same poles touch each other, magnetic lines clash together. To make a magnet ... • 8. Psychological Theories And Criminal Behavior The psychological theories assume that criminal behavior is a result of individual differences in thinking processes. There are many different psychological theories; however, they all believe that it is the person s thoughts and feelings that dictate their actions. The problems with thinking can lead to criminal behavior. I think one of the benefits of criminal justice professionals studying psychological theories is an attempt to measure the intelligence associated with criminals and why they commit crimes. The belief is also to shift the thinking process from the idea that criminals are biologically inferior to the idea that they are intellectually inferior. The psychology theories help to identify personality traits that are linked to aggressive criminal behavior. • 9. The Potential Real World Impact Of Research Introduction In order to measure the potential real world impact of research, it is important to measure validity. Validity explores the degree to which evidence and theory support the researcher s interpretations of the various data the researcher measures (Moss, 2010). A researcher can evaluate a study based on many criteria including internal validity and external validity to determine whether the study is valid (Hernon, 1991). Among various types of validity, in particular, external validity refers to the extent to which study findings can be generalized to a population at large while internal validity relates to whether a study correctly measures what it proposes to gauge (Hernon, 1991). While many types of validity are helpful to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In other words, a study that can be repeated with similar results is said to have external validity. According to Thorkildsen (2010), the generalizability of external validity is guaranteed if a researcher finds his or her results to be consistent even when the population studied changes, or the time or place is altered. Connaway Powell (2010) mention that there are studies that are performed for the sole purpose of checking external validity of a study through replication studies. By replicating a study, it is possible for researchers to determine whether a study has external validity and, therefore, whether the study s results might be likely to occur in the real world. The experiment itself might fail when it is repeated, thereby suggesting that the results will not be generalizable. The impact of the sample selected in particular cannot be underestimated. According to Zhang (2014), researchers begin with subjects, and the subject selection affects the research design. The sampling methods impact external validity because the results can tell the study s reader about the population parameters through the results of the study (Sproull, 2012). As an example of a way that the sample can affect the external validity, Hernon (1991) noted that a study might be drawn from a list of all school media specialists in the Southwest and from that population, researchers could draw a random selection. ... • 10. The, Misery, By Richard Farnsworth As Buster, And Frances... Imagine being rescued after suffering a major car wreck, only to be kidnapped by your number one fan. Starring Kathy Bates as Annie Wilkes, James Caan as Paul Sheldon, Richard Farnsworth as Buster, and Frances Sternhagen as Virginia, Misery is a psychological thriller produced and directed by Rob Reiner. In this 1990 psychological thriller film you will experience thrill, action, suspense, despair and misery, all powered by composer Marc Shaiman and his use of music to set the mood for the audience. Films and movies are a composition of elements that make that essentially come together as one to form a piece of art. Although a film is not complete with missing elements, some elements when used out of place can break a movie. Some of these elements include, but are not limited to, a character s costume and makeup, lighting, camera direction, acting, special effects, and, sound effects and music. In some films one element may be the overriding factor but when put together, these elements work together to please an audience. Each element on its own, has an important role it plays in the creation of a film or movie. In Misery, for example, the choice of music composition used for major scenes in the movie helps to build on the plot, suspense and rising action, on many other scenes, the fast paced music led to nail biting and hair pulling moments. Without the wise choice of the fast paced string, Classical music, Misery would have not been the psychological thriller it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It studies the cultural identities, the symbolic interpretation and representational forms which comes through a cross cultural and international and global perspective. (Roskilde University, M.A. Cultural Encounters). And it can impact on the individual growth and be quite intense. The cultural encounter growth can be noticed by placing the situations where we can find our understanding of self as individual, the world and how we believe in how things are or should be and finding this understanding can be severely challenged. These countries did not have many resources to help people in their poor conditions. One such country is South Africa, where many South Africans were treated unfairly under apartheid, a law, made in 1950, to separate the African minorities from the white population living in South Africa.1 The Whites banned interracial and intersexual relations between Blacks and non Black people, and the Black people owned only about 20% of the land.2 Black people were not given political representation, not given satisfactory facilities, and could not conduct any labor unions against the White population. For close to 40 years, the ANC was trying its best to settle African grievances, to give them additional rights, besides just freedom. They had decided to protest against the apartheid system through methods of peaceful demonstrations. Many people fought, and went to jail, but there was not one mode of violence conducted at all in these protests. 13 Mandela pointed out the shooting at Sharpeville in 1960, where 69 people were killed and 178 demonstrators were wounded. Mandela and his colleague continued to fight, not listening to the government. Nelson believed in the words of the Universal Declaration of Human rights, that the will of the people shall be the basis of authority of the Government . 14 The people had rights to choose what they wanted to do in their homeland, and no one was going to stop them from claiming these rights. Mandela also described why he and his organizers decided to choose sabotage as their method of violence instead of guerilla warfare or open revolutions. 15 Sabotage was a way to show hope for improving relations between races, and if people followed Mandela s thoughts, then there might have been a possibility of a democracy in South Africa. • 13. A Picture Of Failure At Show Santiago s Persistence,... The author starts the book with a picture of failure to show Santiago s persistence, passion, and courage in the face of defeat. Symbolism is when something abstract is represented with something concrete. Santiago is described as, thin and gaunt with deep wrinkles in the back of his neck , brown blotches of benevolent skin cancer , his hands had deep creased scars from handling heavy fish , and everything about him was old except for his eyes and they were the same color as the sea and where cheerful and undefeated. Santiago s hand scars are his battle wounds and shows that his nature is to overcome obstacles in his path. His wrinkles and cancer spots make him look like a simple old man not concerned with looks showing us his humility. Also his eyes that look undefeated are symbolic of his hope and perseverance. Santiago s home is constructed of tough bud shield from the royal palm. It has basic furniture, a bed, a chair, and a table. The house has dirt floors and on the floor is a place to cook with charcoal. Santiago, like his home, is simple, modest, and strong. Even though he lives somewhat on the goodwill of other people, he manages to survive and endure. Santiago isn t caught up about when he attained humility but recognizes that he does have this trait and is proud of it without being arrogant. Santiago shows that humility and pride aren t mutually different and can be one in the same. Hemingway does admire Santiago through the book. He is constantly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My parents played the essential role of providing resources that would instill a good work ethic and passion in me. While my options are limitless, I have spent most of my academic career preparing me for a future in scientific research and academia. Enumerable factors have molded me into the passionate person that I am today, so the answer to Who are you? is not simple but is rather a culmination of life experiences. I learned the values of respect, honor, and drive from both my biological family and my church family. I grew up going to Sunday school in the Episcopal Church where I learned what it meant to have morals and how to be an all around decent human being. At home, my parents taught me similar values and lead by example while explaining the importance of kindness towards others. Growing up in the Episcopal Church has grounded me in such a way that I can find a home and family anywhere in the world simply by finding a church with the iconic red doors. My spirituality and dedication to service formed me into a caring person who can never say no to someone in need. The church has always been my outlet where I can find peace and serenity, so in return I dedicate my time to giving back in honor of all it has provided for me. Formulation of the research question Formulation of the research question guides the type of data collection for the study and states what the study will hypothesise (Polit and Beck, 2010). The CASP tool acknowledges that clearly focused research question will describe the population studied, the intervention given and the outcomes considered (SPH, 2006). The research question in the SR is clearly formulated. The population of patients studied were general and critically ill hospital patients, the intervention was a SR and outcome to be assessed was about the safety of the CPOE and clinical decision support systems or CDSS (CDSS is a computerised medication prescription system) based on hierarchy of outcome measures (kindly refer to table 2 of SR) within ICU settings. Likewise, in the NR, the population of patients studied were general and critically ill patients, the analysis was done via a NR and the purpose of the study was to assess the results of CPOE on clinical and surrogate outcomes in hospitalised patients in both general and critical care settings. Based on this, the author acknowledges that the SR has adopted a narrow and more specific research question as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Confucianism, Daoism, and Legalism In ancient China, many different rulers tried to unify and rule the country using a variety of methods Confucianism, Daoism, and Legalism to name a few. Each philosophy had its own set of rules of how people should act both in public and privately. The overall goal of each philosophy was to set a standard of acceptable living that would ensure harmony and success for the society. However, each was different and thus had different results. The best way for the people of China to succeed in a harmonious, respectable society occurred when both Confucianism and Legalism were combined. Confucianism resulted from a Chinese philosopher named Kongfuzi (551 479 B.C.E), also known as Confucius, becoming disheartened with the way the government ... One such example of this can be found in the Han Feizi document. It says, The law alone leads to political order. If laws are adjusted to the time, there is good government. If government fits the age, there will be great accomplishment. Therefore, when the people are naïve, if you regulate them with fame, there will be good government; when everybody in the world is intelligent, if you discipline them with penalties, they will obey. While time is moving on, if laws do not shift accordingly, there will be misrule; while abilities are divers, if prohibitions are not changed, the state will be dismembered...Indeed, if the state is orderly, the people are safe; if affairs are confused, the country falls into peril...Yet everybody s likes and dislikes should be regulated by the superior. It is no surprise that the philosophy of legalism did not last long. Once the emperor died, people began to dissent and voice their opinions of being treated in such a manner. The next emperor, Emperor Gaozu of the Early Han Dynasty, determined that by combining Confucianism and Legalism would ensure a more accepted and obeyed political system. • 17. Animals for Testing Imagine a poor, tiny mouse sitting in a cage. It is crouching down in the corner, quivering in fear. It has been injected with medications in the process of being approved for human use. It is slowly and painfully dying. We use animals for testing new products, like medications and beauty products that we end up using. Why should animals be put through such pain and agony for something we need? We are selfish and think we are the superior species, so we use animals instead of us. In my opinion, animals should not be used for testing and researching new products. Each year, more than 100 million animals are killed during testing. Some of those animals end up dying before the experiment is even over. Others may survive through the experiment but end up dying shortly after. Most of the testing is a waste of time anyway. According to the Food and Drug Association (FDA), 92 out of 100 drug tests that are passed on animals end up failing in humans. If 92% of drug tests fail, what s the use in testing on animals? It is misleading, and we end up wasting money and time. It only prolongs the suffering of people waiting for a cure. We rely too heavily on animals for testing, that if they drug fails, we won t even give it a chance in humans. The drug could end up proving to be extremely helpful to humans. One example of this is the drug Lipitor. It failed during animal testing but was later proved to be effective in humans. If we would test medications in humans first, we wouldn t have ... This is an occupation that deals with the administration and pharmacology of medications. A pharmacist is part of the team that ensures that a patient is nursed to full health, thereby improving the quality of life. I was twelve years old when I decided that whatever occupation I end up doing, I will be positively impacting the health of people. I made this decision one summer after school just let out when I got inflicted with typhoid. I was very upset not just because of the severe pain, but also because I couldn t go out and play since the illness didn t seem to be dissipating even after a few days. It is common practice in Nigeria for people to self medicate with drugs like Paracetamol and Panadol. This is because hospital bills are very expensive and treatment doesn t begin until payment is made. Therefore, my mom administered these painkillers to me for the first couple of days although my condition continued to worsen. Finally, we went to the hospital where I was diagnosed with typhoid and directed to a pharmacist. A few days after taking the medications given to me by the pharmacist, I started feeling better. This just goes to show that a doctor s job is incomplete without a pharmacist. There have also been other instances where I have marveled at the wonder that is medicine. I personally use music as a form of escape from reality and a tool to help me focus in certain situations. Other use music as an entertainer, an energizer, a coping mechanism or even as a stimulant. Due to this, music is able to play a developmental role in creating one s identity. In 2007, Tomas Chamorro Premuzic and Adrian Furnham, studied how 21st century listeners use music in their daily lives and how an individual s personality affects their listening behaviors. After conducting a survey in which a total of 314 people took, they came to the conclusion that personality and cognitive ability partly determine the way in which we experience music (Chamorro Premuzic, Furnham, 175). From their survey, they found out that many people use music for impression management, influencing other people s perceptions towards oneself, as well as emotional regulation and coping. Some interesting findings from their research were: extroverts use music as background stimulation, people with lower IQ s tend to use music in more emotional rather than intellectual ways and prefer upbeat and conventional music, while on the other hand, people with higher IQ s prefer more complex and reflective music. The results also showed that an individual s emotional stability is connected to their uses of music. Less stable individuals proved to be more sensitive to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. The Silent Pool, The Tell Tale Heart, And Things Fall Apart With many of the texts that were assigned to us, each one dealt with the relationship between insiders and outsiders differently. The insider and outsider relationship varies between both the idea of inner conflict and outside conflict. I will be explaining these relationships from the texts of Gooboora, The Silent Pool, The Tell Tale Heart, and Things Fall Apart. Gooboora, The Silent Pool deals with the relationship of the Aboriginal people of Australia and colonialization, while The Tell Tale Heart deals with an outsider s effect on the main character s subconscious. Things Fall Apart, however, is a mixture of both conflicts that were mentioned. Each of the three texts show how the outside negatively effects the inside. In the poem, Gooboora, The Silent Pool by Oodgeroo Noonuccal, it shows some aspects of the aftermath from colonialism in Australia and how it has affected the Aboriginal people. In Amanda Woods s thesis, she explains that Noonuccal s poems are a means that speak for the Aboriginal people. With Gooboora, The Silent Pool, it talks about the lost images of a pool that is sacred to the Aboriginal people. The aftermath of colonialization has left only a memory for the people. This story was set after dreamtime, or a time before colonialization. She further explains (Woods) Woods s gives a very interesting insight on the poem. Toni Morrison, author of Song of Solomon, has a greater purpose for using these unique names. From the onset of the novel, Morrison s use of names is significant and deliberate throughout the text. For instance, Not Doctor Street, originally named Mains Street acknowledging the only black doctor the city allowed, hints at the social tensions between black and white people in this society. The teacher told the class to write about our summer break. I had no clue where to even start. All the little things I did with friends, the time I went to the beach or of course just being out of school. I was overwhelmed. I now know being overwhelmed in writing is not a curse, but a blessing. Having so much substance to write about and having trouble picking from that list of ideas is better than going into a paper completely blind and with nothing on your mind. With all of these ideas and memories running through my small head, I chose to write ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. What Are The Characteristics Of The Victorian Era The Victorian Era was a period of great change in English literature where most works were directly influence by social and political problems of 19th century England. The Victorian Era was a period spanning Queen Victoria s reign from 1837 to 1901. This period proceeded the Romantic period in English History which had poetry as its main source of literature. Nevertheless, the most important genre in the Victorian Period was the novel. In contrast, the Romantic Era, the era prior to the Victorian Era, most influential genre was poetry. Most of the major literary artist came from England, even though, there were also authors from other countries in the same time period of the Victorian Era. To demonstrate, some of these authors were: Mark ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Undoubtedly, the literature of this era was relatively easier to read than works from other eras, the plot was more interesting and easier to understand, and the main protagonist of the novel were the same people who read it (first person point of view) so the reader was deeply involved in the character s feelings and adventures. Moreover, the setting of the novels was big, well known, cities that the reader probably already is familiar with. The Victorian literature characteristics were mostly composed of social issues that plagued the middle class, and the major changes the population were seeing with industrialization. Some notable characteristics were for example: industrialization, as seen with Charlotte Brontë novel Shirley ; serialization, as seen with Charles Dickens The Woman in White ; social class, taking for example Jane Austen s novel Pride and Prejudice ; Science vs. Religion, the idea that science could explain what religion could not was challenged by Charles Darwin in his book The Origin of the Species ; progress, as is the case for Gerge Eliot s novel The Middlemarch ; and finally, utilitarianism, being manifested in Charles Dickens s novel Hard Times . Most of the characteristics are caused by Britain s social, industrial, and political changes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Buzz Off Priscilla Council Biology 1110 February 23, 2010 Research Assignment Where Have All the Bees Gone? Morgan E. Peck Discover Magazine 2009 Summary Each year since 2006, bees have gradually been disappearing from their hives or dying off. Bees have died off before in the past. This is called colony collapse disorder or CCD. In the past CCD was cause by mites or infections, but now this is caused because of the commercial agricultural farmers. Bees play a key part in pollination. When the crops are pollinated by the bees, they are capable of producing the fruits or vegetables the human population eats. Farmers primarily depend upon the bees to pollinate their crops. The honeybees were the most adaptable bees out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whatever the proximate cause, it increasingly appears that the bees are succumbing to a long ignored underlying condition inbreeding. Decades of agricultural and breeding practices meant to maximize pollinating efficiency have limited honeybees genetic diversity at a time when they need it the most. Addressing CCD may therefore require more than a simple fix. We need to have a diverse set of genetic raw material so we can find bees resistant to disease, says Steve Sheppard, an entomologist at Washington State University. Genetic diversity is an important part of the solution. The problem is hardly trivial. A third of the total human diet depends on plants pollinated by insects, predominantly honeybees. In North America honeybees pollinate more than 90 crops with an annual value totaling almost $15 billion. Indeed, that importance lies at the root of what went wrong. In trying to make bees more productive, apiarists have torn the insects from their natural habitats and the routines they mastered over millions of years. As a result, today s honeybees are sickly, enslaved, and mechanized. We ve looked at bees as robots that would keep on trucking no matter what, says Heather Mattila of Wellesley College, who studies honeybee behavior and genetics. They can t be pushed and pushed. In the beginning, honeybees and their partners, the flowers, drove an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Causes And Failures Of The Crusades The Crusades were a set of wars between the Catholic Church and Muslims. These wars lasted from 1096 A.D. to 1291. The Crusades are known as successful failures because two of the nine crusades were successful, the First and Third. On November 27, 1095, Pope Urban II called for a crusade to help the Byzantine s take back the city of Jerusalem. The First Crusade was led by Raymond of Saint Gilles, Godfrey of Bouillon, Hugh of Vermandois, and Bohemond of Taranto. From 1096 to 1099, the Catholics took back Nicea, Jerusalem, Antioch, Edessa, and Tripoli from the Turks. The First Crusade s goal was to take back the Holy Lands, especially the city of Nicea. The city of Nicea, now modern day Iznik, Turkey, is fifty five miles, southeast of Constantinople, where the Crusaders are coming from. After months of fighting, the Seljuk Turks surrendered against the Crusaders, giving Nicea back to the Catholic Church. After several weeks of war and conflict, Christian knights began to massacre Jerusalem s Jewish and Muslim population. Christian knights were getting payback for the persecution of the Christians from the Islamic law. Crusaders split the city of Jerusalem into four small states, which were called the crusader states . By 1187, the Muslims took over Jerusalem once again, under their leader, Salah al Din. Though the Muslims took Jerusalem back, the First Crusade was the closest they saw to success. After conquering Jerusalem faster than expected, many of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
