Women During The War Period Essay
The war period changed the life of women, children, indians, and blacks. The minorities of the country
became the most dependable workers during this time. Before the war most of the workers were
males. When the war broke out most of the males had to leave their jobs and go fight in the war. This
meant that there were many jobs openings for those who did not have a good job or were not working
in the industry they wanted to be in. Women were told it was their patriotic duty to step up and start
working. The number of employed women increased to 19 million during the period of war (732). The
jobs women were working included everything from operating heavy machinery to driving to taxis
and to being nurses helping with the war effort. Women having to work changed the lifestyle of
children. Before the war the women usually stayed home to help take care and provide for the
children, this changed during the war. Children were left unattended to during the day since one parent
was off and war and the other was off working. This led to children misbehaving and getting
themselves in to trouble since they were left unsupervised during the day. ... Show more content on

There became more black leaders fighting for equal rights during this time as well as more blacks
working. The amount of blacks employed double to 1.2 million during the time of war (737). Blacks
also got increased wages for their efforts in the work force. This was a big deal because before the war
blacks were undermined and were not treated as fairly. Many blacks also joined the military. They
went off to fight for the United States and some became pilots or navy seals. Blacks were fighting for
equality and they were receiving new opportunities during the

Essay about Predicting Voting Behavior
Predicting Voting Behavior
Voting behaviour is increasingly hard to predict because of the variables that ultimately affect it, these
being class, gender, age, ethnicity and regional locality. It is the job of a political scientist to weigh up
these factors along with public opinion on major and current issues such as the Health Service, Crime
etc. In addition to these they will look at past elections and their statistics to determine the possible
result of an imminent election.
Research in the 1950 s and 60 s in Britain and the USA indicates that all the factors that might
contribute to a persons voting behaviour such as religion, gender, age and regional locality; social
class was by far ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However this was put under massive dispute throughout the sixties and early seventies until nineteen
seventy nine where the conservatives were found to have major success in the general elections
because of high amounts of working class votes and the theory was suggested correct. Whatever the
reasons the Conservatives won the working class vote the theory did not account for the drop in
middle class voters.
Ultimately unless the parties fall into a trend whereby one is totally right wing and the other left wing
it will be very hard to predict or stereotype people to a political party just because of their class or
position in society.
Gender is out of the five categories, the most hard to base any conclusions from since the nineteen
ninety seven elections. This is because from the statistics there is very little gender differences in party
choice. Previously gender was attributed for one of the reasons for party choice; the majority of
women voting in the UK in the four elections between nineteen seventy nine and nineteen ninety two
voted Conservative than they did for any other party. This is slightly ironic because the Conservative
party was in fact the worst represented in terms of female MP s out of the major forerunners being
Labour and The Liberal Democrats. The complete disappearance of the

Celie In The Color Purple By Alice Walker
The Color Purple by Alice Walker focuses on the life of Celie, a young African American woman, as
she recollects her life through a series of letters to God. As a victim of rape and emotional abuse from
her husband and father, Celie no longer feels any true emotions and lives in fear of men. When Shug
Avery, a confident woman on the way to stardom, enters her life, Celie s views on success and
happiness are forever changed. Slowly, she begins to realize the value of independence and friendship
as Shug shows her what the meaning of love really is. By learning to be self reliant, Celie no longer
has to depend on others for her own happiness.
Celie s letters start out detailing her life as the oldest daughter in a family with six children. She ...

Through their journey from abused wives to tenacious women, these three characters learn the
significance of self made happiness and how independence is not only possible, but necessary for
success. Celie, the woman who was once a daughter and a wife used to the constant ridicule of her
family, changed her life for the better through forgiveness, faith, and friendship. Her friend and
daughter in law,Sofia, a loving mother and wife who was punished for her voice rose to defy the racist
and sexist ways she was treated. And Mary Agnes, the diffident girl who shrunk away from the
limelight, content to remain in the shadows of the strong figures around her, learned the importance of
determination and courage through her success as a singer. The woman from this novel are a true

Hard Times And Pride And Prejudice Essay
The novels Hard Times (1854) written by Charles Dickens (1812 1870) and Pride and Prejudice
(1813) written by Jane Austen (1775 1817) are two very distinct literary works, written and published
in two completely different eras. While Austen wrote Pride and Prejudice in the Georgian era, Dickens
s novel Hard Times is a part of the Victorian age. These novels represent disparate worlds, that of rigid
and utilitarian aspects on one hand and domestic concerns over marriage and property on the other.
These novels represent women in a certain light, quite different from the each other, but the same. This
paper thus aims to analyse the portrayal of female characters by Dickens and Austen in the
aforementioned novels, in view of their gender identities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an opposition with which Dickens makes extended ironic play later in the story, when Sissy
becomes the homemaker, the most settled and the most respectable member of the Gradgrind family.
She is,at the beginning of the book, not only of questionable parentage but a virtual orphan. From this
situation there develops an ironic opposition between the ties of blood and those of affectiom, for
Sissy, deprived of a family by blood, is supported by the extended, unorthodox family of the circus
people and she eventually becomes Gradgrind s honorary and truest daughter. Her love is undying and
is not affected by his loveless teaching. Her devotion brings about family feeling in her new father and
sister as when, in Louisa s grave trouble, the once deserted girl shone like a beautiful light upon the
darkness of the other (Dickens, 248). Sissy becomes the motherly, sisterly and daughterly heart of the
adoptive family and her very nickname signals her familial role throughout the story, as the
archetypical sister. However, the reward for this depiction of virtue is confined within the family.
Although Sissy grows from child to woman in years, she does not move, like most of Dickens s good
women, beyond the roles of a surrogate mother, daughter and sister to sexual maturity. Initially, the

A nation s culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people. Mahatma Gandhi. A person s
culture is a big part of person s day to day life, it sets shared attitudes, values and goals. It decided

Respect to Authority. Patient will not verbalize any doubts in medical treatment in front of the medical

person thinking that patient is not compliant with any treatment rather than looking for a different
treatment. In addition, in sign of respect to medical personal Chinese patient will nod when listening,
this can confuse a nurse and give an idea that patient understand. Nurse has to verify that patient
understand what is going on and not just nodding out of respect.

American Indian Stories Essay
In American Indian Stories, University of Nebraska Press Lincoln and London edition, the author,
Zitkala Sa, tries to tell stories that depicted life growing up on a reservation. Her stories showed how
Native Americans reacted to the white man s ways of running the land and changing the life of
Indians. Zitkala Sa was one of the early Indian writers to record tribal legends and tales from oral
tradition (back cover) is a great way to show that the author s stories were based upon actual events in
her life as a Dakota Sioux Indian. This essay will describe and analyze Native American life as

We where once very happy. But the paleface has stolen our lands and driven us hither. Having
defrauded us of our land, the paleface forced us away (10). Having knowing this, the little girl still
persisted and wanted to go with the paleface.
Many of the Indians that left with the missionaries were gone for many years and did not know how
much had changed back at home. In the story The Soft Hearted Sioux a young man comes back home
after receiving an education from the missionaries. He had left before he was taught how to survive
out in the wild. He came back to dying and starving parents. He was brainwashed by the missionaries
because he went against his family s customs and told the medicine man never to come back and that
God will save his father. He started preaching God s words to his people and they left the community.
His father was growing sicker and sicker and he needed food. His son went out everyday trying to get
something but had no skills in hunting. His father had told him to go two hills over and he could find
meat. With no concept of ownership, the son went and killed a cow that belonged to an American.
Upon leaving with the meat he was chased down and attacked by the owner of the cattle. The son
accidentally killed the man and fled back to his father s teepee only to realize that he was too late and
that his father had died. He was so conditioned by the white man that he had forgotten his ancestors
ways of survival.

The Argument Of The Sacrament Of Confession
For Protestantism, the act of professing one s sins to a priest for the Lord s forgiveness the Sacrament
of Reconciliation is a sacrament that is unnecessary and not instituted. Valid arguments are made in
favour of avoiding confession. First most, only God can forgive sin; it is not man s right to cleanse the
eternal soul. Truthfully, God is truly the only one who can forgive us by his own authority of sin. The
practise of forgiveness began through the Lord and should continue in an unique relationship between
Him and his follower independently. Another objection to the practise is that it is a man made
explanation, not God s teaching. In the bible, there is no teaching directly put forth on the idea that
man can forgive sin. Rather interpretations have been made to institute the practise, though there is no
proof in the infallible rule of faith (The Bible; Sola Scripture). As discussed, this act belongs to God
and only God. For Protestants, there is no need to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though there are obvious disagreements between the two sides, I believe that the Catholic sacrament
of Confession paired with personal confession that embodies the traits of the Protestant Confession
(specific, acknowledges consequences, and precedes forgiveness) would be the correct solution for the
profession of my sins to God. I believe that it is necessary for major digressions that we ask a priest
for intercession for the forgiveness of sins. However, I have been raised in a family, where personal
confession has held a place of importance. It strengths an individualistic relationship with God.
Fostering our ability to analyze our faith and explore our intrapersonal sins, while including the
intercession of saints suited to our cause and person. I support the Catholic Church in their practice of
Reconciliation, but the Protestant Church is correct in how individual confession should be carried

Muslims and The Holy Qur an
There is a reasonable number of researches and studies conducted by Muslims and Non Muslims on
English translations of the Holy Qur an. However, little attention has been given to the translation of
Qur anic euphemistic expressions into their equivalents. For the previous studies didn t discuss
euphemisms in the Holy Qur an as culture bound units and therefore suggested traditional solutions
for their translations such as paraphrase and transliteration. The proposed study differs from the
previous ones because it looks into theories of translation including functional and formal
equivalence. Moreover, the study will examine different exegeses of the Noble Qur an to obtain a
closer view of the intended meaning. In addition, the study sheds light on the rhetorical style of the
Holy Quran in addressing people that the euphemism reflects. Thereupon, the importance of this study
stems from the well planned strategy that it proposes to translate the Qur anic euphemistic expressions
into English. This strategy includes the translation of each euphemistic expression into its cultural and
lexical equivalent, if any, in the target language. If there is no equivalence, the study attempts to use
other alternative methods, namely: gloss translation, footnotes, transliteration, omission, compensation
and paraphrase. Outline of the study
The proposed study will be divided into five chapters. Chapter one will set out the background of the
study and present various definitions of

A Study on Photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is a process in plants, algae, and some prokaryotes, that coverts solar insulation into
chemical energy stored in glucose or other organic compounds. Photosynthesis occurs in slightly
different ways in higher plants relative to photosynthetic bacteria. Photosynthesis is an important
process because it harnesses the sun s energy into utilizable forms of energy on earth. Most biological
organisms such as animals and fungi are unable to directly use light energy to power biological
processes such as active transport, cell division and muscle movement. ATP is used to power these
processes. Photosynthesis converts light energy into chemical energy in the form of glucose and then
the process of cellular respiration converts energy in glucose to energy in the form of ATP which is
ultimately used to power biological processes. The energy produced by photosynthesis forms the
foundation of virtually all terrestrial and aquatic food chains. As a result, photosynthesis is the crucial
source of carbon in the organic molecules found in most organisms. The high oxygen concentration in
the atmosphere is derived directly from the light reactions of photosynthesis. Prior to the evolution of
photosynthesis on earth, the atmosphere was absent of any oxygen
The rate of photosynthesis is determined by environmental factors. Factors affecting photosynthetic
rates include light intensity, water availability, soil nutrient content, concentration of carbon dioxide
and temperature.

Graph Theory Concepts and Strategies with Ticket to Ride...
Ticket to Ride is a board game created by Alan R. Moon that has been growing in popularity since its
first release in 2004 by Days of Wonder. The game components include a map with cities and defined
train routes, sets of 45 colored, plastic train car tokens for up to five players, destination tickets, and
colored train cards. The premise of the game involves collecting enough of the colored train cards to
claim or build train routes to connect various major cities in the United States and southern Canada to
earn points as well as completing routes designated on the destination tickets. The game itself is not
only a fun way to spend hours playing but it is also a good tool to showcase various concepts in graph
theory and combinatorics. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are also multi colored locomotive that are used like wild cards. The colored train cards are
shown in Figure 2. The second part of the set up to deal out five destination tickets (three, if not
playing with the Mega Game expansion) a minimum of three which must be retained. Any destination
tickets not kept by a player are returned to draw pile for later in the game. Note that some versions of
the game remove any discarded tickets from play for the rest of the game. An example of a destination
ticket is shown in Figure 3.
On a player s turn, he/she chooses one of three options: Build a train connecting two adjacent cities
using sets of colored train cards to earn points immediately, draw up to two additional colored train
cards to be used later to build a train, or draw three additional destination tickets keeping a minimum
of one to earn points at the end of the game. Play continues in this fashion for each player until one
player has two or fewer train tokens left and then everyone still has one more turn.
The points earned from building a train connecting two adjacent cities are based on the length of the
route with the longer routes earning more points per train token. Routes of length one and two earn
only one point per token while a route of length three earns a total of four

Inclusion Of Children With Disabilities
Inclusion, known as the act of including or being included within a group or structure. In today s
world the act of inclusion within the classroom is becoming more and more well known in most
schools. This could be the act of including a child with special needs or even a child where their
second language is English. As recent as a hundred years ago, children with disabilities received little,
if any, formal education. In the tradition of segregating students during the middle to late 19th century.
Special schools for those with special needs continued to be created in the early 1900s. These schools
claimed to educate children; however, they primarily served as residential facilities and institutions.
Even in 1918, as states began creating a nationwide public school system, children with disabilities
were usually excluded. Between 1850 and 1950 classes were created for people to learn how care for
individuals with disabilities. Parents of kids with special needs began to make programs and schools
for their kids. Even though these came up it was still more well known for parents to send their kids to
a residential facility. With them believing that was still the best thing to do. In the Rehabilitation act of
1973 educational rights were guaranteed to federal funded institutions. Then the IDEA was the first
things to have education be provided in the least restrictive environment, the same school. Although
still rare in many school districts, real special education inclusion

Man s Search For Meaning By Mor Frankl
Man s Search for Meaning, written by Viktor Frankl, is about Frankl s experience at the Auschwitz
and Dachau concentration camps during the Holocaust and his logotherapy theory. Throughout the
book, Frankl explains his belief in an ultimate purpose in life and how humans can attain it. Frankl
attained his purpose in life while at the Dachau concentration camp during a critical period of his life.
Frankl provides many clues as to what his purpose in life is at the time that he attained it such as what
he was imagining at that time and what motivated him to continue living. Frankl s purpose was to

We know that suffering is largely unavoidable, so when it happens, we must accept it if possible. This
allows us to potentially endure the situation in a much more effective way and it can turn our suffering
into accomplishment. This is because Frankl said that when we are no longer able to change a
situation... we are challenged to change ourselves (101). This connects to the theme of everyone
having one ultimate purpose to life since suffering can be one of the ways to achieve your purpose in
life (102). Therefore, one of the most important things learned from Man s Search for Meaning is
learning how to react to suffering. Man s Search for Meaning is filled with invaluable advice for life
and receiving the best out of it. Throughout Man s Search for Meaning, Frankl explains his belief in
attaining an ultimate purpose of life and he attains this purpose during his time at the Dachau
concentration camp. Indications were given as to what this purpose is throughout the text, which was
to inform others about logotherapy and finding their purpose in life. Frankl s book and research may

Speech About Birthdays
Do you ever think to yourself that some of you birthdays are more valuable than others? Personally, I
happen to thinks some of my birthdays aren t as fun as when I was six years old. Currently I am
eighteen years old and as the years have gone I ve realized how different things have been. I must say
I don t remember all of my birthdays from when I was a kid, although I do remember a few of them.
When I was five I had a birthday party and my mom hired a clown. I guess the lady was very friendly
she handed out prizes and played with the children. It was like having a sister for the first time.
Although I have to say I m not a big fan of clowns, this woman made my fifth birthday party an
outstanding time! Her name was Betty, and clown Betty had paint with her, so she painted all the
children s faces. I believe she had painted a pink butterfly on my face and my father had painted his
face as Spider Man. I also recall playing many games, it just happened to be musical chairs that I won
on. For my prize I had to pick out of a huge surprise box, I was very happy with my prize I had won
myself a Snow White game for my Gameboy. Some of the girls got a bit jealous and would say that
the clown would only let me win because it was my birthday. In my opinion I think they were just
upset that I had won and they didn t. I also remember turning six, my mom and dad had taken me to
Disney for the very first time. I was extremely excited to meet Cinderella and all the other characters

Critical Analysis Of David Sedaris s Me Talk Pretty One Day
Critical Analysis Essay
In his essay, Me Talk Pretty One Day, David Sedaris uses humor and satire, to chronicle his time as a
student in a French language class while living in France. Sedaris creatively expresses his external and
internal struggles as a student in his later years, bringing real life examples of how he overcame his
obstacles to obtain his educational goals. Through careful research and critical analysis, this essay
effectively proves that despite adversity, self doubt, and preconceived notions of what college age is,
acquiring a higher education is possible.
Adversity comes in all shapes and sizes. For Sedaris, adversity came in the shape of a well tanned
French instructor. From day one, the French instructor left no doubt about how each person was going
to be treated. As Sedaris exclaimed, one of her first responses to a student was filled with sarcasm and
venom, Oh, really, the teacher said. How very interesting. I thought that everyone loved the mosquito,
but here, in front of all the world, you claim to detest him. How is it that we ve been blessed with
someone as unique and original as you? Tell us, please. This set the tone for the rest of the class that
day... and the days to come. Sedaris maintains throughout his writing that the humiliation did not stop
there. She methodically, one by one, would verbally castrate each student as he or she responded to
her questions. She managed to shower each student with an array of critiques. This was but a gateway
for negative treatment, The teacher licked her lips, revealing a hint of the sadist we would later come
to know... showing that his instructor relished in belittling her students. Sedaris instructor would take
every opportunity to belittle him and his peers by name calling and blatantly pointing out their
mistakes. I d head off to class, where the teacher would hold my corrected paperwork, high above her
head, shouting, Here s proof that David is an ignorant and uninspired ensigiejsokhjx , and, Were you
always this palicmkrexjs? she asked. Even a fiuscrzsws tociwegixp knows that a typewriter is
feminine, is one of the many ways Sedaris exclaimed how his French instructor misused her power
(Sedaris 2).

Racism- An Aid to American Society
Racism An Aid to American Society?
Racism is actions, practices or beliefs, or social or political systems that consider different races to be
ranked as inherently superior or inferior to each other, based on presumed shared inheritable traits,
abilities, or qualities. (Newman, 2012) Racism has promulgated after the slavery in America, and
these practices are still evident in our generations today. Oftentimes, when the word racism is heard by
many, negative characteristics on these actions will be dominant. Many perceive racism as disrespect
to one s rich culture and heritage, thus causing a lot of hatred. Despite my strong objection on the act
of racism, I believe that racism played a major role in the development and rise to ... Show more

Racism is what justified America s thirst for expansion through the Manifest Destiny which gave an
ideological dimension to its actions. It is important to see, at this point, that America is a country
which gives a huge importance to its national beliefs which include liberalism, self determinism and
democracy. Tierney (2011) says that it is ingrained so much so that there is a liberal hegemony in the
way Americans think, making its existence natural to America and its inhabitants. The liberty of
Americans justifies the Manifest Destiny s expansionist ideas by its dimension of free development
for Americans. Race, here, became one of the determinants of who were to pay the price of that
development and who were to profit. While countries such as Russia and China imposed their
ideologies on their countries which already had their nationalist ideologies, America was born under
its own, making the connection between its core beliefs and Manifest Destiny an effective engine to
justify the latter. When the original version of the Manifest Destiny was accomplished in 1890, free
development was found to be possible through two more activities, nation building in the Americas
and Imperialism ( Manifest Destiny , n.d.).
Nation building took form in slavery in tobacco farms, developing from an economic venture to a
cultural endeavor (p.109, Fields, 1990). Slavery also led to the empowerment of the other citizens,
with both forming

Bilingualism And Bilingualism
According to a 2006 European Commission survey, 56% of respondents said they could speak a
language other than their mother tongue. In many countries, the proportion of bilinguals is much
higher. For example, 99% of Luxembourg and 95% of Latvian populations speak more than one
language. Even in the United States, where English is pre dominantly used as a single language, a
large number of people using non English languages at home have increased by 140% since 1980.
Thus, bilingualism is an extensive cultural, linguistic, and cognitive phenomenon that is extensively

In many studies, bilingual learners brain can have better attentiveness and the ability to switch tasks
than a mono lingual learner s brain because of their cognitive ability to control to suppress one
language while using another language or switch from one language to another language
simultaneously. Bilingualism also positively affects learners academic progress (Saer, D. J. 1923).
Moreover, studies on bilingual language processing have shown that when bilingual speakers, listen
to, read, or produce sentences, linguistic competency in both languages is activated, even when the
speaker uses one language (Kroll, J. F., Bobb, S. C., Hoshino, N. (2014). This cross language
activation can be detected in both beginners and highly skilled bilinguals and can be found at various
levels of language processing system, such as lexicon, phonology, and grammar. In particular,
cognitive research on bilingualism suggests that a bilingual speaker s second language, which is not
used in word recognition and language production, is being suppressed and the language that tends to
be self controlled is the native language of the speaker, not the second foreign language, implying that
the native language is indeed compromised to accommodate the second language. The control system
used to cognitively prohibit and switch languages is a control system commonly used for

The Function Of The Hair Follicle Stem Cells
An adult stem cell s niche is responsible for the preservation of the stem cell s undifferentiated state
through either intrinsic or extrinsic expression of specific proteins. Hair follicle stem cells are
responsible for not only its self renewal but also in the production of rapidly multiplying cells. The
stem cells of the hair follicle are for temporary increase in cells, and are created by the differentiation
of hair follicle stem cells. The focus of this essay will be to analyze a specific protein within the hair
follicle stem cell BMP, bone morphogenetic proteins. Through intrinsic expression, Bone
morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are able to function in multi levels and are in charge for the
transforming growth factor beta (TGFbeta). These proteins are crucial for the maintenance and the
proliferation of hair follicle stem cells. Bone morphogentic proteins have the ability to affect other
molecules that are part of the niche, which boosts or limits particular cellular functions to the needs of
the human body and niche. This paper will discuss two experiments conducted that exhibit the
function of BMP. One experiment will examine the results of BMP deletion in genetically modified
dermal papilla cells patched onto mice that had no hair. The second scientific experiment will
demonstrate the effects of excess and limited quantities of BMP expression in vitro on isolated chick

Søren Kierkegaard
People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom
use. Lets go back to when men valued thought, for they valued its effect on the world, lets go back and
take a look at the father of Christian Existentialism, Søren Kierkegaard. Søren Kierkegaard was born
to a father who inflicted strict and rigorous religious teaching upon his children. His father felt this
was necessary because of his sinful habit that resulted in an affair with his 1st wife s maid.
Kierkegaard, after a broken engagement with his love, was handed over to a life of severe melancholy.
Yet as a result of both his personal pain and brilliant mind, a literary life few could surpass, and
wisdom of thought (does that make sense) ensued. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His answer was summarized in three words, Fear and Trembling. This is something that he spent an
immense amount of time answering, and his answers can be condensed into the example that he gave
from the Old Testament in the Bible. He gives Christians an example in which to follow, in the
patriarch Abraham. The example that Abraham gives, and we are to follow, is found in how Abraham
responds to the command to kill his son. For man, especially a father, this command is unfathomable,
yet because God wanted to test Abraham (give better reasoning), he told him to sacrifice his son.
Kierkegaard looks at Genesis 22:2, it says, He said, Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you
love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of
which I shall tell you. He notes the unbearable precision in the command, when God says take your
son, your only son Isaac, whom you love (emphasis added) Kierkegaard also takes a close look at the
beginning of the next verse, it says, So Abraham rose early in the morning. He notes that some men

The World s Largest Population
From the 3.68 billion people that will be added to the world population between 1995 and 2050, Asia
will contribute some 2 billion. This enormous increase is due to the already massive size of the
population. Most of this growth will occur in the next three decades. Between 1995 and 2025 Asia s
population will grow by 1.35 billion between 2025 and 2050 the increase is projected to be just 658
million. China is the world s largest population, estimated to be around 1.24 billion in 1998. It grows
at a rate of 1.3% per year or 44,100 people a day. There are now more people living in China than
whole world 150 years ago. The population broke the billion mark in the 1982 census, the results of
which provided the justification for the strict one child policy which effectively curbed rapid
population growth. In the 1990 census, China counted 1.133 billion people, over the next decades the
world population will inevitably age. This is an unavoidable consequence of large birth cohorts during
the 1950s and 1960s and the rapid fertility decline since the 1970s. In 2025 the baby boomers of the
1950s and 60s will be between 65 and 75 years of age. These large aging cohorts are followed by the
relatively small baby bust generations of the worldwide fertility decline. In 1950 there were only 131
million people of age 65 and older; in 1995 their number had almost tripled and was estimated at 371
million. Between now and 2025 the number will more than double again; and by 2050 we

Reasons For Pe Being An Important Part Of The National...
The foundation subjects in the national curriculum comprise of history, geography, modern foreign
languages, physical education (PE), religious education, art and design, citizenship, computing, design
and technology and music (DFE 2013, p7).
All the foundation subjects have a place on the National Curriculum; however, for the purposes of this
essay we will be focussing on the reasons for PE being an important part of the National Curriculum.
The National Curriculum (DFE 2013, p5) states that every state funded school must offer a curriculum
which is balanced and broadly based and which promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and
physical development of pupils at the school and of society and, prepares pupils at the school for
opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life .
It aims to give children the knowledge that that they need to be educated citizens and gives an outline
of the core knowledge around which teachers can develop exciting and creative lessons to promote
pupils knowledge, understanding and skills as part of the wider school curriculum (DFE 2013, p6).
The key aims of PE on the national curriculum focusses on a healthy lifestyle developing competence
across several physical activity areas and for children to be active for sustained periods of time and
encouraging children to engage in competitive activities and sports (Smith 2014. P213).
At Key Stage 1 the national curriculum states that pupils should develop fundamental

Collective Bargaining Agreements
Employees have the right to start a union if they are dissatisfied with certain situations within their
organization. Joining together to defend their mutual interest will improve their working environment.
A union is an organization form by working people to improve their working conditions through
higher wages, more benefits greater job security. Sometimes union members have trouble getting their
first contract, but there are steps that must be implemented in order to get that first contract just decide
what kind of contract you want. Of the 8.7 million workers currently under major collective
bargaining agreements, about 3.4 million will see their agreements expire or be reopened and
bargaining activity will be lighter than previous years in state and local governments, but will be
relatively heavy in private industry; where negotiations will be carried out in an environment marked
by comparative industrial peace and by concern over an uncertain economy. In order to get a contract
you must go through a collective bargaining process and there must be representation on both sides of
the table. Many collective bargaining contracts have union shop clause; which mean labor union ...

The Japanese were still facing a very dangerous enemy. The Japanese thought less of the American

Dark Ages Dbq
Europe fell into the Dark Ages on August 24th, 410 A.D. Rome was one of the greatest empires at the
time. That is, before August. It controlled most trade routes, and a lot of land. Then came the day
where the Visigoths invaded the Visigoths were western branches of the nomadic tribes of Germanic.
Famine, plague, persecutions, and persistent warfare followed. Half of the healthy people living in
Rome died. The thugs looted markets, causing a downfall in supplies such as food and clothing. After
that, traders brought rats over to europe to the crushed, once powerful empire.

Garrett Hardin Population
Garrett Hardin s essay, Tragedy of the Commons has a view of the population of the world different
than any other. In his essay, he writes about how the world is biophysically finite. He believes that the
more people there are the less each person s share will be. This was a main point in his essay. He goes
on to talk about how agricultural cannot help fix this problem and how we can t both maximize the
number of people and satisfy every desire or good of everyone since every person has a different
good/desire.
Hardin discusses how the pollution problem in the world has everything to do with the population. He

The Amazing Platypus The platypus has so many characteristics that even scientists sometimes
wonder how the platypus came about. An example includes how the platypus feeds itself if it has a

really part of his perfect creation. It seems to be that scientists even think that the platypus may be a
mutation. But it s not. It s part of the wonderful creation of God. This paper will discuss these three
things: how platypuses feed themselves, platypus poison, and the characteristics of a platypus.
Platypuses are odd creatures. They are not your ordinary beaver, otter, or duck. This is because they

Legal and Ethical Issues Essays
Running head: LEGAL AND ETHICAL ISSUES IN MY SISTER S KEEPER
Legal and Ethical Issues in My Sister s Keeper

Abstract
In this paper I am going to identify some the legal and ethical issues in My Sister s Keeper. Some of
those issues include emancipation of a minor, genetic engineering, and limited termination of parental
rights. I will be giving my opinion on these matters also.
My Sister s Keeper is about a family who conceives a child strictly for the use as bone marrow donor
for her gravely ill older sister. Kate is diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia at the age of
two. As their doctor tells them of their options, he asks Sara and Brian, the parents, have they thought

She left her morals at home on the kitchen table that day and kept leaving them behind. In this movie,
it seemed that the mother is putting one child s quality of life over the other children. Jesse is being
neglected because he has a selfish mother. He is just a shadow that sulks and creeps throughout the
house and the city. As parents how they can they do that. I know that when you are dealing with a
seriously ill family member, some things do get neglected or put on the back burner. But that thing
should not be your child. Sara and Brian did not even realize that Jesse was suffering with dyslexia.
Anna and Kate have came up with a bunch of reasons as to why Anna wants to be emancipated. At the
age of eleven, Anna and her older brother, Jesse, go hire a lawyer to sue their parents for the rights to
Anna s body. The lawyer takes the case because he knows what it is like to live a life where you have
no control of your body. The lawyer suffers from epilepsy. Anna wants to become a medically
emancipated minor. The courts had never heard of such a case and there is no such term as medically
emancipated, legally defined. With Anna becoming medically emancipated, it means that Sara and
Brian s parental rights have been terminated within limits. They still had to provide shelter, food,
clothing, and other basics, but they could not tell her what to do medically. In my opinion, an eleven
year old is not responsible

Why Is Fighting In Hockey Wrong
Fighting in Hockey: Wrong, or Right?
Ice hockey is a full contact sport played by individuals skating on ice, carrying sticks to push a
vulcanized rubber puck around the ice in an attempt to shoot the puck into an opposing teams net to
score goals. Tempers flare consequently fights break out between players battling one another for
supremacy on the ice. Fighting in the game of ice hockey has been a part of the game since the
inception of the National Hockey League, known as the NHL, in 1917. Fighting is officially
prohibited, but it is an unofficially condoned part of professional hockey, in current professional
hockey leagues a player engaged in a fight will serve a five to ten minute penalty for fighting. The

There comes into question the moral code that fighting in hockey brings about, what kind of example
is being presented to the public and children in general? There is a discussion that these continued
displays of violence send a message to the public that contradicts many values that are instilled from a
young age. Author Charles Gillis, argues that punching another person is no way to resolve frustration.
He goes on to question why is it thought reasonable in hockey and more to the point, is fighting not
antithetical to the concept of athletic competition (51)? Children see the glorified aspect of fighting in
hockey, consequently they do not always recognize the negative impact it has in other areas of their
life. [In the game of hockey and life] what are rules and officials for, if not to prevent players from
taking justice into their own hands? Why should they serve this purpose in other contact sports, but
not hockey (Gillis 51)? Opponents to fighting in hockey believe the violence in ice hockey is
unnecessary and wrong.
Antagonists of fighting in hockey believe it is wrong for the reason that there is no correlation
between fighting and winning games. A research project done in the NHL, looking at 4,240 NHL
game summaries from five consecutive seasons were examined to determine the outcome of team s
overall standings at the end of a season while looking at the number of fighting penalty minutes
served, and the number of goals scored by the teams. The findings, published in the Perceptual and

individuals just wanted clothing and some food. I wrote them a voucher for both of their needs and
they left with the supervising officer. I really wanted to get to know more about the program

Research Paper On Anna Pavlova
How did a seven year old girl go from being a ballet enthusiast to one of the greatest ballerinas of all
time whose influences are still so evidently felt today? Anna Pavlova is a famous Russian ballerina
who is best known for introducing and popularizing ballet around the world, defying the traditional
expectations of ballerinas and her contribution to the modern pointe shoe. Her love for classical ballet,
determination, perseverance, and elegance stole the hearts of people around the world.
At the age of eight Anna Pavlova, born in St. Petersburg, Russia, on 31 January 1881, was amazed by
the performance of The Sleeping Beauty at the Mariinsky Theater and was thereafter determined on
becoming a professional ballerina. Despite not having the ideal, strong, muscular and compact figure
of a ballerina at the time, Pavlova was accepted into the Imperial Ballet School in 1891. Pavlova
attracted the attention from her teachers and at the annual graduation performance in 1899, it was
announced that Pavlova, after graduating, would join the Imperial Ballet at the Mariinsky Theatre.
Pavlova, with her grace, talent and work ethic, rose through the ranks quickly, she was named
coryphée in 1902, première danseuse in 1905, and finally, after her extraordinary performance in
Giselle, she was promoted to prima ballerina in 1906.
With her strong stage presence, Pavlova stole the hearts of many across the world, who called

Greek Philosophy Research Paper
For the Greeks philosophy wasn t restricted to the abstract it was also their natural science. In this way
their philosophers were also their scientist. Questions such as what is the nature of reality and how do
we know what is real are two of the fundamental questions they sought to answer. Pythagoras and
Plato were two of the natural philosophers who sought to explain these universal principles.
Pythagoras felt that all things could be explained and represented by mathematical formulae. Plato,
Socrate s most important disciple, believed that the world was divided into two realms, the visible and
the intelligible. Part of the world, the visible, we could grasp with the five senses, but the intelligible
we could only grasp with our minds. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

all, the being of all, the kinship of all, is in the harmonious flow. To be perfectly in the rhythm is to be

There should be a public option available in health care and the government should have control over
the industry. Backing up a bit, what is wrong with the health care system in the first place to cause
such an enormous reform? Less than a hundred years ago, in the late 1920 s and 30 s, almost 90% of
Americans did not have health insurance (Fall of HMO s 4). They used a variety of home remedies
and when medical assistance was truly needed, they paid for it out of pocket, even incurring vast
amounts of debt. This had been the case throughout history, and it changed due to an important factor,
medical equipment. The industrial revolution finally caught up with the medical industry and the
country saw a vast change in the scientific instruments used by physicians. These instruments required
a lot of money to make and care for which caused prices to rise. Due to this massive problem, a
committee was formed of health care professionals and after a 5 year study, the Committee on the
Cost of Medical Care suggested that health insurance co operatives start. These corporate medical
practices became known as Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO s) and preferred provider
organizations (PPO s), and up until the 1970 s, were an experiment to regions across the U.S. Factors
that hindered health care included bullying of money politics from both sides of the isle as well as
Presidential views and tactics as well. President Nixon first

Similarities Between Dadaism And Internet Art
Art, quite simply, is a social force. It reflects on the feelings of people in society, whether individually
or as a whole. Usually art that vents the feelings of the artist occur around times or events that evoke
emotions powerful enough to provide a muse for artwork. Some art styles, such as Dadaism and
Internet Art, can directly tie their absurdist means to what was happening in that time. But do the time
periods in which those art styles were popular relate to the meaning behind the art? The similarities
between Dadaism and Internet/Postinternet art show the state of disarray and lack of hope for the
future that millennials have revived.
Dadaism
Dadaism is an art style defined as a form of artistic anarchy born out of disgust for the social, political,
and cultural values of the time. (Artyfactory). Pieces made in this style went against almost all of the
previously written rules of art, which earned it the title of anti art . Dada was presented in many ways,
the most well known being collages made on paper [Fig 1]. Another popular presentation was
photography, which was a relatively new concept at the time. These photographs turned ordinary
things into art by showcasing the abstractness of ordinary things as seen through a lens. One of the
most well known examples of Dada photography is Fountaine by Marcel Duchamp [Fig. 2].
Technology was also a new concept that Dada creating artists used to their advantage. Film and radio
broadcasting were used as mediums, one

Animal Rights And Human Cruelty
(iii) Animal Rights Once rights are granted to certain groups of people, more and different types of
group also starts asking for rights. This is an example of a slippery slope argument. Similarly, there are
groups of people who advocates for the rights of animals. They are speaking out against cruelty that
animals have to go through like slaughtering them for food, conducting different kinds of experiments
on them, etc. While pro animal rights people argue about those types of cruelty, another group of
people believe that animals are needed for those kinds of purposes. Animal rights activists have said
that the cruel activities that humans conduct on animals is discrimination is a result of speciesism.
While racism means discriminating people based on race, speciesism means discriminating and
treating other species unfairly. Many animal rights activists take the stand of the unequal value theory.
They say that they oppose to animal cruelty as much as they oppose human cruelty but that does not
mean that they value the life of animal equal to the life of a human being. The lives of the animals
have some value and killing it would be wrong. With regard to the exploitation of animals, people
believe it is acceptable for several reasons. Firstly, they think that humans are the most important
beings on the planet, and everything must be done to ensure human survival. If this means
experimenting on animals so that we can fight and find cures for diseases or using them as

1. The essence of franchising as a special form of business organizational structure
1.1 The history of franchising
To begin with, the concept of franchising originally appeared in Britain in the 10th century and as a
term described a variety of benefits, which were provided to the citizens in the context of the electoral
process. However, the revival of franchising as a modern business institution is marked by the year
1840, the year of the appearance of the first worldwide franchise network (the system of tied pubs ) in
the UK, which was used by the brewers in order to maintain the necessary volume of sales. In fact, the
tied pubs system operated in accordance with the following principle: in exchange for a loan or rental
property a brewer was provided with an inn, that is, with the possibility to sell beer and alcoholic
beverages (Lashley Rowson, 2002). At this point, it should be noted that the abovementioned system
still exists these days, which illustrates the effectiveness of such type of business. ... Show more

The Dangers Of Space And Space Travel
In the year 2025, the United States is prepared to finally send humans to Mars. The spacecraft, named
Oasis, carries with it human passengers and the means to set up a potential colony. Years of research
have identified many threats that the colonists will have to face on their journey, as well as efficient
ways to neutralize them. However, as is often the case with voyages such as this, not everything goes
according to plan. The passengers must rely on their quick wits, as well as knowledge of the effects of
microgravity on the human body and the potential dangers of space radiation to survive the journey.
However, another threat looms. Even if the astronauts can survive the dangers of the cosmos, can they
deal with the psychological threat of being trapped in space?

One of the ultimate goals of space research and space travel is to put human beings into space, be it

body reacts when in space for a long time. Both speculative projections from experienced scientists

People mailed themselves to escape the torture of slavery! Some even committed suicide. Death was a

The Constitution Of The United States Against All Enemies,...
I Am A Solider.
I, Clayton Lewia Miles Dickenson, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution
of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance
to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the
officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So
help me God. I did it; I passed my Armed Services Vocational Battery text (ASVAB) and made it past
Military Entrance Processing (MEPS). I am one step away from being an official solider, now all I
have to do is make it past basic training. As the plane lands in Atlanta, Georgia two hundred others
and I are escorted by Drill Sergeants to the buses. Several hours go by and finally I arrive at Fort
Jackson, South Carolina. I glance at my watch, it s three o clock in the morning. The Drill Sergeants
are screaming MOVE PRIVATES! WE DON T HAVE ALL DAY! I run as fast as I can to formation
just to stand at the position of attention for three hours. The morning sun is beating me in the face and
the Drill Sergeants are still yelling. A voice rings out, Private First Class Dickenson report to the
Captain s office now. Oh My God, what the hell did I do? Here I am half way through basic and haven
t been called to the Captain s office before. Am I getting kicked out? What is going on; I am trying to

Ed Gein Essay
This paper is based on the life of Ed Gein. He was an unusual character, born on a farm, and raised by
a religious crazy, domineering mother. In the space of a few years his entire family passed away and
he was left to take care of his farm all by himself. In the next few years he became a grave robber, a
necrophiliac, a cannibal, and also took up arts and crafts in body parts. He is known as one of the
weirdest serial killers of the twentieth century. He also inspired movies like Psycho, Silence of The
Lambs, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

He went to an old friend by the name of Gus, who was a loner and odd as well. Gus was Ed s trusted
friend, he agreed to assist in digging up the body for medical experiments . His first corpse was less
than 12 feet away from his mother s grave.
Over the next 10 years Ed did the same thing look up obituaries in the local newspaper and dig up
fresh corpses on a full moon. He would take the whole corpse or just the parts that he needed at the
time.
His experiments with dead bodies were bizarre. He would construct objects with the bones and skin
and the organs and meats were stored in the fridge to eat and give as fresh venison to his neighbors.
He would commit acts of necrophilia on the bodies. He even dug up his own mother s corpse!
Ed Gein/ Page 7
Wanting To Be A Woman
Ed Gein never told Gus that he wanted to be a woman. That s why he studied anatomy. He was always
telling people about operations that resulted in a change of sex. Ed was always desiring to dissect
female corpses and familiarize himself with its anatomy. The closest he got was to wear a full body
suit made of women skin, breasts and face included.
His collections of trophies got larger, and so did the range of his experimentation and obsession. Gus
was then taken to an asylum, and Ed was then left alone again. Ed thought that fresher bodies would
be better for his collection so he

Individuality And Uniqueness In Emerson s Self Reliance By...
1. In the essay Self Reliance, Ralph Waldo Emerson addressed the topic of originality and uniqueness
to depict the idea that these are the qualities that make people great. Emerson stated that We but half
express ourselves, and are ashamed of that divine idea which each of us represent in order to argue
that each person has a uniqueness because their environments is unique (Emerson 2). The quote infers
that every person in society has an ability to possess a unique idea. Every person has a unique idea,
which means that every person can become a free thinker. Those who do not act on their thoughts and
ideas due to societal rules lose the chance to become unique. Emerson believed that Society is a wave.
The wave moves onward, but the water of which it is composed does not , meaning something sparks
society to do something, everyone starts doing it but why they do it is lost over time (Emerson 20).
The wave of society represents the masses and the water that makes up the wave are the individuals in
society. Every person has an ability to possess a divine thought but cannot ferment it because of
societal restraints (the wave). Due to the influence of society, one lacks the strength to act on their
original thought and follows the crowd. Martin Luther acted on his original thought but thousands of
people adopted his thoughts, even though the reasons for his regional thought are no longer present.
Instead of creating and following their own ideas, they adopted Luther s instead. In society, many
people follow and imitate well established beliefs, thus leading to the lack of divine thought. In the
reading, Emerson came to a conclusion that all people have divine thoughts but cannot act on them
because of societal influences.
2. In the reading titled Self Reliance, Ralph Waldo Emerson addressed the topic of truth and honesty.
According to Emerson, one who went Upright and vital, and speak the rude truth is unique (Emerson
4). Emerson followed this quote stating that one shall Speak what you think now in hard words, and
tomorrow speak what tomorrow thinks...though it contradicts everything (Emerson 7). What Emerson
views as a man simply stating his thoughts and ideas can be seen in society as a contradiction in

Research Paper On Red Wolf
Over the course of the past few weeks, students have presented topics regarding pollution and
endangerment of species. However, one of the three most interesting topics for me was the red wolf.
This name is very peculiar, for you would expect it to be more scientific. However, it s sad story just
makes the name look irrelevant. The red wolf has been hunted down by early settlers, making it s
wildlife population to be fourteen. That is shocking, for this unique animal is suffering because of our
needs. However, the thing that caught my eye was not it s dire situation, but the fact that people are
working to help this animal thrive. The Red Wolf Recovery Program oversees the health of this
animal. Now, they are breeding them in captivity and

Essay On My Hero s Journey
Looking at the finished product I turned in for Essay 1, I don t think I deserved a 100%. As I read my
essay I found nothing but mistakes and points left out. I then went back and read the first draft of that
essay and man is there is difference. As I was reading my original essay I found out that I was
inserting facts into sentences. That s not bad but no the goal. The goal is to create a story about your
hero s journey and relate it to you. Mine was not that. Looking back on workshops and feedback I saw
how much my paper had changed and how I raised my bar. I took sentences I had written and moved,
created, and formed an essay that was different and better then the first draft; by creating a story. Now
using all the knowledge, I have learned throughout the semester, I can use it revise my essay one ...

history of surfing Essay
A Surf Tale
An account of surfing s thousand year voyage from the kings of Hawaii, to the surfers exile from
society, to the multi billion dollar industry of today.
The Sun s radiation heats the upper atmosphere, sending the energy toward the earth s surface and
finally mixes with the planet s counter rotational currents, creating jetstream flows. The winds flow
over the ocean s surface creating friction that spawns chops, pushing up the seas forming perfect
bands of open ocean swell. Pushed on by gravitational forces, the swells speed away from the winds
that they came from, moving across the deeps until they feel the drag of the shallows near the coast.
As the swells rise up out of themselves, they peak, curling into the liquid dreams ... Show more

They had perfected the science of celestial navigation and frequently made thousand mile journeys,
hitting their target destination perfectly. The Islanders braved the ocean by rowing large canoes made
from forest hardwood. They stabilized them with outriggers, enabling the boats to keep from flipping
while paddling into the surf. These crafts were propelled by wind being corralled in sails made from
pandanus leaves, or when sailing into the wind, they could be rowed with small paddles. The islanders
were accustomed to long journeys at sea seeing as these boats were primarily used to venture out on
their regular trading routes with other islands, or even on long explorations. It was on these
Expeditions that the Ancient Polynesians are believed to have discovered and inhabited hundreds of
remote islands, including present day Easter Island and of course Hawaii.
It isn t clear how the Polynesians actually discovered surfing, but we can all conjecture. Assuming that
these ancient people were familiar with paddling in the ocean, they surely understood that while
paddling with a swell, one could feel the next wave building behind them. As the wave begins to peak,
it pulls you down, and then draws you up, then allowing one to fall along the face of the wave,
skipping forward across the surface. It seems to be the best guess that surfing started much like that, a
fisherman catches a lift to shore

Laura Ashley Holdings plc: The Battle for Survival The principal activities of the Laura Ashley
Holding Group are the design, manufacturing, sourcing, distribution and sale of clothing, accessories

Laura Ashley managed stores, Mail Order and Internet, and Non retail, which includes licensing, and
franchising, although the retail sector represents the bigger one. The company operates in the UK,

This market may provide quite a lot of potentials and profit for the company, but it has suffered a lot
in exploiting the market efficiently. Moreover, the closure of small retail shops, the opening of larger
shops and the closure of inefficient large shops may not only provoke increasing costs but also makes
employees afraid of losing their jobs, which creates an overall bad reputation of the company and thus
an possible reduction of sales. Another matter that should be analyzed and improved is the supply
chain. Solution to the mentioned problems The company should conduct a consumer survey among its
key/traditional/principal/loyal customers to meet their needs. It should focus on their core
competences, which is the design, manufacturing and retail of traditional clothes, accessories and
home furnishings and franchising and licensing. Thus they are able to formulate a mission which
signals a clear and straight message towards traditional design. In this way the loyal customers but
also new customers may have more trust in the product and (continue) buying from the company,
which would provoke an increase in sales. Maybe it would be wise to outsource some of the clothing
manufacturing to a subcontracting firm to save costs but to keep control over this subcontracting firm.
Furthermore, an orientation towards the traditional AND the youth/modern market, in this way a
diversification through an expansion towards a new market (the youth market), would be

Projectile Energy And Momentum Lab Report
Analysis and Results:
In the previous experiment, the range of a projectile shot at an angle was predicted by calculating the
launch speed along the horizontal. Building on this idea, this experiment sought to predict the range of
a projectile along the horizontal by determining the initial velocity at which the ball was being
launched using a ballistic pendulum. The concepts of conservation of energy and momentum were
used to calculate the initial velocity.
In the first part of this experiment, the velocity at which the ball was launched had to be determined. A
ball of mass m was launched from a projectile launcher set at short, medium, or long range strength.
The ball was launched five times at every setting. When the ball came out of the ... Show more content

A table was used to represent the data because there were, but very important data points to observe.
No statistical tests were conducted.
Conclusions:
In order to assess the accuracy of the predicted medium range, a circle using the mouth of Solo cup
was drawn on the carbon paper. Only Trial 3, as seen in Table 1, landed within this circle. The first
two trials were very close to landing within said circle, but were slightly off. There could have been a
few sources of errors. One very easy mistake was poor positioning of both the circle on the carbon
paper, and the carbon paper on the floor. Along those same lines, poor angle alignment between the
projectile launcher and the carbon paper resulted in slight deviations from the circle. Furthermore, the
projectile launcher was not clamped down, and could have been moved ever so slightly to affect the
trajectory of the ball. Another source of error could be attributed to slight errors in measurements.
Meter sticks are a strong and reliable measuring tool, but has serious limitations when the surfaces are
not all even. Human error could have also affected the results, as bad judgment in linear alignment
could have resulted in less accurate results. Overall, the average observed range was an acceptable

Every Man In This Village Is A Liar
Compromise is often needed to resolve conflict.
The results of conflict can be absolutely horrendous as depicted in the media everyday, but
disagreement is not generically a negative experience. Compromise between opposing parties is
needed to resolve conflict, as Wayne Dyer espoused Conflict cannot survive without your participation
this presents a relevant adage toward resolving conflict. Conflict can show itself in an abundance of
different ways, I believe that conflict shows itself as an ever burning fire that will lurk around
disagreements to fuel itself into becoming a feral a brute that seeks to harm. The protagonists in the
texts Every Man In This Village Is a Liar and the Life of Galileo all showed compromise to avoid
conflicting disputes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But even Stack had to show compromise when faced with conflict, whether she should help women

when Brecht and Galileo fought conscience wars which pervaded their everyday lives. Martin Luther
King, I have a dream and Mahatma Gandhi You must be the change you want to see in the world, both
sacrificed their lives to do the greater good. Galileo on the other hand was prepared to recant his
theory s to stay alive, to avoid execution and keep researching. All of these people displayed altruistic
qualities, King and Gandhi died following their beliefs, while Stack and Galileo both compromised

  • 2. Women During The War Period Essay The war period changed the life of women, children, indians, and blacks. The minorities of the country became the most dependable workers during this time. Before the war most of the workers were males. When the war broke out most of the males had to leave their jobs and go fight in the war. This meant that there were many jobs openings for those who did not have a good job or were not working in the industry they wanted to be in. Women were told it was their patriotic duty to step up and start working. The number of employed women increased to 19 million during the period of war (732). The jobs women were working included everything from operating heavy machinery to driving to taxis and to being nurses helping with the war effort. Women having to work changed the lifestyle of children. Before the war the women usually stayed home to help take care and provide for the children, this changed during the war. Children were left unattended to during the day since one parent was off and war and the other was off working. This led to children misbehaving and getting themselves in to trouble since they were left unsupervised during the day. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There became more black leaders fighting for equal rights during this time as well as more blacks working. The amount of blacks employed double to 1.2 million during the time of war (737). Blacks also got increased wages for their efforts in the work force. This was a big deal because before the war blacks were undermined and were not treated as fairly. Many blacks also joined the military. They went off to fight for the United States and some became pilots or navy seals. • 3. Essay about Predicting Voting Behavior Predicting Voting Behavior Voting behaviour is increasingly hard to predict because of the variables that ultimately affect it, these being class, gender, age, ethnicity and regional locality. It is the job of a political scientist to weigh up these factors along with public opinion on major and current issues such as the Health Service, Crime etc. In addition to these they will look at past elections and their statistics to determine the possible result of an imminent election. Research in the 1950 s and 60 s in Britain and the USA indicates that all the factors that might contribute to a persons voting behaviour such as religion, gender, age and regional locality; social class was by far ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However this was put under massive dispute throughout the sixties and early seventies until nineteen seventy nine where the conservatives were found to have major success in the general elections because of high amounts of working class votes and the theory was suggested correct. Whatever the reasons the Conservatives won the working class vote the theory did not account for the drop in middle class voters. Ultimately unless the parties fall into a trend whereby one is totally right wing and the other left wing it will be very hard to predict or stereotype people to a political party just because of their class or position in society. Gender is out of the five categories, the most hard to base any conclusions from since the nineteen ninety seven elections. This is because from the statistics there is very little gender differences in party choice. Previously gender was attributed for one of the reasons for party choice; the majority of women voting in the UK in the four elections between nineteen seventy nine and nineteen ninety two voted Conservative than they did for any other party. This is slightly ironic because the Conservative party was in fact the worst represented in terms of female MP s out of the major forerunners being Labour and The Liberal Democrats. • 5. Hard Times And Pride And Prejudice Essay The novels Hard Times (1854) written by Charles Dickens (1812 1870) and Pride and Prejudice (1813) written by Jane Austen (1775 1817) are two very distinct literary works, written and published in two completely different eras. While Austen wrote Pride and Prejudice in the Georgian era, Dickens s novel Hard Times is a part of the Victorian age. These novels represent disparate worlds, that of rigid and utilitarian aspects on one hand and domestic concerns over marriage and property on the other. These novels represent women in a certain light, quite different from the each other, but the same. This paper thus aims to analyse the portrayal of female characters by Dickens and Austen in the aforementioned novels, in view of their gender identities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is an opposition with which Dickens makes extended ironic play later in the story, when Sissy becomes the homemaker, the most settled and the most respectable member of the Gradgrind family. She is,at the beginning of the book, not only of questionable parentage but a virtual orphan. From this situation there develops an ironic opposition between the ties of blood and those of affectiom, for Sissy, deprived of a family by blood, is supported by the extended, unorthodox family of the circus people and she eventually becomes Gradgrind s honorary and truest daughter. Her love is undying and is not affected by his loveless teaching. Her devotion brings about family feeling in her new father and sister as when, in Louisa s grave trouble, the once deserted girl shone like a beautiful light upon the darkness of the other (Dickens, 248). Sissy becomes the motherly, sisterly and daughterly heart of the adoptive family and her very nickname signals her familial role throughout the story, as the archetypical sister. However, the reward for this depiction of virtue is confined within the family. Although Sissy grows from child to woman in years, she does not move, like most of Dickens s good women, beyond the roles of a surrogate mother, daughter and sister to sexual maturity. • 8. The Argument Of The Sacrament Of Confession For Protestantism, the act of professing one s sins to a priest for the Lord s forgiveness the Sacrament of Reconciliation is a sacrament that is unnecessary and not instituted. Valid arguments are made in favour of avoiding confession. First most, only God can forgive sin; it is not man s right to cleanse the eternal soul. Truthfully, God is truly the only one who can forgive us by his own authority of sin. The practise of forgiveness began through the Lord and should continue in an unique relationship between Him and his follower independently. Another objection to the practise is that it is a man made explanation, not God s teaching. In the bible, there is no teaching directly put forth on the idea that man can forgive sin. Rather interpretations have been made to institute the practise, though there is no proof in the infallible rule of faith (The Bible; Sola Scripture). As discussed, this act belongs to God and only God. For Protestants, there is no need to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though there are obvious disagreements between the two sides, I believe that the Catholic sacrament of Confession paired with personal confession that embodies the traits of the Protestant Confession (specific, acknowledges consequences, and precedes forgiveness) would be the correct solution for the profession of my sins to God. I believe that it is necessary for major digressions that we ask a priest for intercession for the forgiveness of sins. However, I have been raised in a family, where personal confession has held a place of importance. It strengths an individualistic relationship with God. Fostering our ability to analyze our faith and explore our intrapersonal sins, while including the intercession of saints suited to our cause and person. • 9. Muslims and The Holy Qur an There is a reasonable number of researches and studies conducted by Muslims and Non Muslims on English translations of the Holy Qur an. However, little attention has been given to the translation of Qur anic euphemistic expressions into their equivalents. For the previous studies didn t discuss euphemisms in the Holy Qur an as culture bound units and therefore suggested traditional solutions for their translations such as paraphrase and transliteration. The proposed study differs from the previous ones because it looks into theories of translation including functional and formal equivalence. Moreover, the study will examine different exegeses of the Noble Qur an to obtain a closer view of the intended meaning. In addition, the study sheds light on the rhetorical style of the Holy Quran in addressing people that the euphemism reflects. Thereupon, the importance of this study stems from the well planned strategy that it proposes to translate the Qur anic euphemistic expressions into English. This strategy includes the translation of each euphemistic expression into its cultural and lexical equivalent, if any, in the target language. If there is no equivalence, the study attempts to use other alternative methods, namely: gloss translation, footnotes, transliteration, omission, compensation and paraphrase. Outline of the study The proposed study will be divided into five chapters. Chapter one will set out the background of the study and present various definitions of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. A Study on Photosynthesis Photosynthesis is a process in plants, algae, and some prokaryotes, that coverts solar insulation into chemical energy stored in glucose or other organic compounds. Photosynthesis occurs in slightly different ways in higher plants relative to photosynthetic bacteria. Photosynthesis is an important process because it harnesses the sun s energy into utilizable forms of energy on earth. Most biological organisms such as animals and fungi are unable to directly use light energy to power biological processes such as active transport, cell division and muscle movement. ATP is used to power these processes. Photosynthesis converts light energy into chemical energy in the form of glucose and then the process of cellular respiration converts energy in glucose to energy in the form of ATP which is ultimately used to power biological processes. The energy produced by photosynthesis forms the foundation of virtually all terrestrial and aquatic food chains. As a result, photosynthesis is the crucial source of carbon in the organic molecules found in most organisms. The high oxygen concentration in the atmosphere is derived directly from the light reactions of photosynthesis. Prior to the evolution of photosynthesis on earth, the atmosphere was absent of any oxygen The rate of photosynthesis is determined by environmental factors. Factors affecting photosynthetic rates include light intensity, water availability, soil nutrient content, concentration of carbon dioxide and temperature. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Moon that has been growing in popularity since its first release in 2004 by Days of Wonder. The game components include a map with cities and defined train routes, sets of 45 colored, plastic train car tokens for up to five players, destination tickets, and colored train cards. The premise of the game involves collecting enough of the colored train cards to claim or build train routes to connect various major cities in the United States and southern Canada to earn points as well as completing routes designated on the destination tickets. Play continues in this fashion for each player until one player has two or fewer train tokens left and then everyone still has one more turn. • 12. Inclusion Of Children With Disabilities Inclusion, known as the act of including or being included within a group or structure. In today s world the act of inclusion within the classroom is becoming more and more well known in most schools. This could be the act of including a child with special needs or even a child where their second language is English. As recent as a hundred years ago, children with disabilities received little, if any, formal education. In the tradition of segregating students during the middle to late 19th century. Special schools for those with special needs continued to be created in the early 1900s. These schools claimed to educate children; however, they primarily served as residential facilities and institutions. Even in 1918, as states began creating a nationwide public school system, children with disabilities were usually excluded. Between 1850 and 1950 classes were created for people to learn how care for individuals with disabilities. Parents of kids with special needs began to make programs and schools for their kids. Even though these came up it was still more well known for parents to send their kids to a residential facility. With them believing that was still the best thing to do. In the Rehabilitation act of 1973 educational rights were guaranteed to federal funded institutions. Then the IDEA was the first things to have education be provided in the least restrictive environment, the same school. Man s Search For Meaning By Mor Frankl Man s Search for Meaning, written by Viktor Frankl, is about Frankl s experience at the Auschwitz and Dachau concentration camps during the Holocaust and his logotherapy theory. Throughout the book, Frankl explains his belief in an ultimate purpose in life and how humans can attain it. Frankl attained his purpose in life while at the Dachau concentration camp during a critical period of his life. Frankl provides many clues as to what his purpose in life is at the time that he attained it such as what he was imagining at that time and what motivated him to continue living. Frankl s purpose was to inform others about logotherapy and finding their ultimate purpose in life. Undoubtedly the events that happened during the time that Frankl ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We know that suffering is largely unavoidable, so when it happens, we must accept it if possible. This allows us to potentially endure the situation in a much more effective way and it can turn our suffering into accomplishment. This is because Frankl said that when we are no longer able to change a situation... we are challenged to change ourselves (101). This connects to the theme of everyone having one ultimate purpose to life since suffering can be one of the ways to achieve your purpose in life (102). Therefore, one of the most important things learned from Man s Search for Meaning is learning how to react to suffering. Man s Search for Meaning is filled with invaluable advice for life and receiving the best out of it. Throughout Man s Search for Meaning, Frankl explains his belief in attaining an ultimate purpose of life and he attains this purpose during his time at the Dachau concentration camp. • 14. Speech About Birthdays Do you ever think to yourself that some of you birthdays are more valuable than others? Personally, I happen to thinks some of my birthdays aren t as fun as when I was six years old. Currently I am eighteen years old and as the years have gone I ve realized how different things have been. I must say I don t remember all of my birthdays from when I was a kid, although I do remember a few of them. When I was five I had a birthday party and my mom hired a clown. I guess the lady was very friendly she handed out prizes and played with the children. It was like having a sister for the first time. Although I have to say I m not a big fan of clowns, this woman made my fifth birthday party an outstanding time! Her name was Betty, and clown Betty had paint with her, so she painted all the children s faces. I believe she had painted a pink butterfly on my face and my father had painted his face as Spider Man. I also recall playing many games, it just happened to be musical chairs that I won on. For my prize I had to pick out of a huge surprise box, I was very happy with my prize I had won myself a Snow White game for my Gameboy. Some of the girls got a bit jealous and would say that the clown would only let me win because it was my birthday. In my opinion I think they were just upset that I had won and they didn t. • 15. Critical Analysis Of David Sedaris s Me Talk Pretty One Day Critical Analysis Essay In his essay, Me Talk Pretty One Day, David Sedaris uses humor and satire, to chronicle his time as a student in a French language class while living in France. Sedaris creatively expresses his external and internal struggles as a student in his later years, bringing real life examples of how he overcame his obstacles to obtain his educational goals. Through careful research and critical analysis, this essay effectively proves that despite adversity, self doubt, and preconceived notions of what college age is, acquiring a higher education is possible. Adversity comes in all shapes and sizes. For Sedaris, adversity came in the shape of a well tanned French instructor. From day one, the French instructor left no doubt about how each person was going to be treated. As Sedaris exclaimed, one of her first responses to a student was filled with sarcasm and venom, Oh, really, the teacher said. How very interesting. I thought that everyone loved the mosquito, but here, in front of all the world, you claim to detest him. How is it that we ve been blessed with someone as unique and original as you? Tell us, please. This set the tone for the rest of the class that day... and the days to come. Sedaris maintains throughout his writing that the humiliation did not stop there. She methodically, one by one, would verbally castrate each student as he or she responded to her questions. She managed to shower each student with an array of critiques. This was but a gateway for negative treatment, The teacher licked her lips, revealing a hint of the sadist we would later come to know... showing that his instructor relished in belittling her students. Sedaris instructor would take every opportunity to belittle him and his peers by name calling and blatantly pointing out their mistakes. I d head off to class, where the teacher would hold my corrected paperwork, high above her head, shouting, Here s proof that David is an ignorant and uninspired ensigiejsokhjx , and, Were you always this palicmkrexjs? she asked. Even a fiuscrzsws tociwegixp knows that a typewriter is feminine, is one of the many ways Sedaris exclaimed how his French instructor misused her power (Sedaris 2). ... Racism is actions, practices or beliefs, or social or political systems that consider different races to be ranked as inherently superior or inferior to each other, based on presumed shared inheritable traits, abilities, or qualities. (Newman, 2012) Racism has promulgated after the slavery in America, and these practices are still evident in our generations today. Oftentimes, when the word racism is heard by many, negative characteristics on these actions will be dominant. Racism is what justified America s thirst for expansion through the Manifest Destiny which gave an ideological dimension to its actions. It is important to see, at this point, that America is a country which gives a huge importance to its national beliefs which include liberalism, self determinism and democracy. Tierney (2011) says that it is ingrained so much so that there is a liberal hegemony in the way Americans think, making its existence natural to America and its inhabitants. The liberty of Americans justifies the Manifest Destiny s expansionist ideas by its dimension of free development for Americans. Race, here, became one of the determinants of who were to pay the price of that development and who were to profit. While countries such as Russia and China imposed their ideologies on their countries which already had their nationalist ideologies, America was born under its own, making the connection between its core beliefs and Manifest Destiny an effective engine to justify the latter. When the original version of the Manifest Destiny was accomplished in 1890, free development was found to be possible through two more activities, nation building in the Americas and Imperialism ( Manifest Destiny , n.d.). Nation building took form in slavery in tobacco farms, developing from an economic venture to a cultural endeavor (p.109, Fields, 1990). In many countries, the proportion of bilinguals is much higher. For example, 99% of Luxembourg and 95% of Latvian populations speak more than one language. Even in the United States, where English is pre dominantly used as a single language, a large number of people using non English languages at home have increased by 140% since 1980. In many studies, bilingual learners brain can have better attentiveness and the ability to switch tasks than a mono lingual learner s brain because of their cognitive ability to control to suppress one language while using another language or switch from one language to another language simultaneously. Bilingualism also positively affects learners academic progress (Saer, D. J. 1923). Moreover, studies on bilingual language processing have shown that when bilingual speakers, listen to, read, or produce sentences, linguistic competency in both languages is activated, even when the speaker uses one language (Kroll, J. F., Bobb, S. C., Hoshino, N. (2014). This cross language activation can be detected in both beginners and highly skilled bilinguals and can be found at various levels of language processing system, such as lexicon, phonology, and grammar. In particular, cognitive research on bilingualism suggests that a bilingual speaker s second language, which is not used in word recognition and language production, is being suppressed and the language that tends to be self controlled is the native language of the speaker, not the second foreign language, implying that the native language is indeed compromised to accommodate the second language. The Function Of The Hair Follicle Stem Cells An adult stem cell s niche is responsible for the preservation of the stem cell s undifferentiated state through either intrinsic or extrinsic expression of specific proteins. Hair follicle stem cells are responsible for not only its self renewal but also in the production of rapidly multiplying cells. The stem cells of the hair follicle are for temporary increase in cells, and are created by the differentiation of hair follicle stem cells. The focus of this essay will be to analyze a specific protein within the hair follicle stem cell BMP, bone morphogenetic proteins. Through intrinsic expression, Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are able to function in multi levels and are in charge for the transforming growth factor beta (TGFbeta). These proteins are crucial for the maintenance and the proliferation of hair follicle stem cells. Bone morphogentic proteins have the ability to affect other molecules that are part of the niche, which boosts or limits particular cellular functions to the needs of the human body and niche. This paper will discuss two experiments conducted that exhibit the function of BMP. One experiment will examine the results of BMP deletion in genetically modified dermal papilla cells patched onto mice that had no hair. The second scientific experiment will demonstrate the effects of excess and limited quantities of BMP expression in vitro on isolated chick otic vesicles. Lets go back to when men valued thought, for they valued its effect on the world, lets go back and take a look at the father of Christian Existentialism, Søren Kierkegaard. Søren Kierkegaard was born to a father who inflicted strict and rigorous religious teaching upon his children. His father felt this was necessary because of his sinful habit that resulted in an affair with his 1st wife s maid. Kierkegaard, after a broken engagement with his love, was handed over to a life of severe melancholy. His answer was summarized in three words, Fear and Trembling. This is something that he spent an immense amount of time answering, and his answers can be condensed into the example that he gave from the Old Testament in the Bible. He gives Christians an example in which to follow, in the patriarch Abraham. The example that Abraham gives, and we are to follow, is found in how Abraham responds to the command to kill his son. For man, especially a father, this command is unfathomable, yet because God wanted to test Abraham (give better reasoning), he told him to sacrifice his son. Kierkegaard looks at Genesis 22:2, it says, He said, Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you. He notes the unbearable precision in the command, when God says take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love (emphasis added) Kierkegaard also takes a close look at the beginning of the next verse, it says, So Abraham rose early in the morning. He notes that some men take this excerpt to men that Abraham was rising early to faithfully carry out his duty. And while that has some truth to it, it is not complete, Kierkegaard emphasizes the fact that he rose early, not because he got a great night of sleep, rather that he wrestled with this command in ... • 35. Similarities Between Dadaism And Internet Art Art, quite simply, is a social force. It reflects on the feelings of people in society, whether individually or as a whole. Usually art that vents the feelings of the artist occur around times or events that evoke emotions powerful enough to provide a muse for artwork. Some art styles, such as Dadaism and Internet Art, can directly tie their absurdist means to what was happening in that time. But do the time periods in which those art styles were popular relate to the meaning behind the art? The similarities between Dadaism and Internet/Postinternet art show the state of disarray and lack of hope for the future that millennials have revived. Dadaism Dadaism is an art style defined as a form of artistic anarchy born out of disgust for the social, political, and cultural values of the time. (Artyfactory). Pieces made in this style went against almost all of the previously written rules of art, which earned it the title of anti art . Dada was presented in many ways, the most well known being collages made on paper [Fig 1]. Another popular presentation was photography, which was a relatively new concept at the time. These photographs turned ordinary things into art by showcasing the abstractness of ordinary things as seen through a lens. One of the most well known examples of Dada photography is Fountaine by Marcel Duchamp [Fig. 2]. Technology was also a new concept that Dada creating artists used to their advantage. • 36. Animal Rights And Human Cruelty (iii) Animal Rights Once rights are granted to certain groups of people, more and different types of group also starts asking for rights. This is an example of a slippery slope argument. Similarly, there are groups of people who advocates for the rights of animals. They are speaking out against cruelty that animals have to go through like slaughtering them for food, conducting different kinds of experiments on them, etc. While pro animal rights people argue about those types of cruelty, another group of people believe that animals are needed for those kinds of purposes. Animal rights activists have said that the cruel activities that humans conduct on animals is discrimination is a result of speciesism. While racism means discriminating people based on race, speciesism means discriminating and treating other species unfairly. Many animal rights activists take the stand of the unequal value theory. They say that they oppose to animal cruelty as much as they oppose human cruelty but that does not mean that they value the life of animal equal to the life of a human being. The lives of the animals have some value and killing it would be wrong. With regard to the exploitation of animals, people believe it is acceptable for several reasons. Firstly, they think that humans are the most important beings on the planet, and everything must be done to ensure human survival. The essence of franchising as a special form of business organizational structure 1.1 The history of franchising To begin with, the concept of franchising originally appeared in Britain in the 10th century and as a term described a variety of benefits, which were provided to the citizens in the context of the electoral process. However, the revival of franchising as a modern business institution is marked by the year 1840, the year of the appearance of the first worldwide franchise network (the system of tied pubs ) in the UK, which was used by the brewers in order to maintain the necessary volume of sales. In fact, the tied pubs system operated in accordance with the following principle: in exchange for a loan or rental property a brewer was provided with an inn, that is, with the possibility to sell beer and alcoholic beverages (Lashley Rowson, 2002). At this point, it should be noted that the abovementioned system still exists these days, which illustrates the effectiveness of such type of business. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The spacecraft, named Oasis, carries with it human passengers and the means to set up a potential colony. Years of research have identified many threats that the colonists will have to face on their journey, as well as efficient ways to neutralize them. However, as is often the case with voyages such as this, not everything goes according to plan. The passengers must rely on their quick wits, as well as knowledge of the effects of microgravity on the human body and the potential dangers of space radiation to survive the journey. However, another threat looms. Even if the astronauts can survive the dangers of the cosmos, can they deal with the psychological threat of being trapped in space? ... One of the ultimate goals of space research and space travel is to put human beings into space, be it for deep space research, recreation, or colonization. As we develop new technology and plot a course of action to progress towards this goal, one of the factors that cannot be ignored is how the human body reacts when in space for a long time. Both speculative projections from experienced scientists and actual research done by NASA suggests that the situation is a lot more complicated then just sending people into orbit with enough food and water to keep them alive. • 44. Individuality And Uniqueness In Emerson s Self Reliance By... 1. In the essay Self Reliance, Ralph Waldo Emerson addressed the topic of originality and uniqueness to depict the idea that these are the qualities that make people great. Emerson stated that We but half express ourselves, and are ashamed of that divine idea which each of us represent in order to argue that each person has a uniqueness because their environments is unique (Emerson 2). The quote infers that every person in society has an ability to possess a unique idea. Every person has a unique idea, which means that every person can become a free thinker. Those who do not act on their thoughts and ideas due to societal rules lose the chance to become unique. Emerson believed that Society is a wave. The wave moves onward, but the water of which it is composed does not , meaning something sparks society to do something, everyone starts doing it but why they do it is lost over time (Emerson 20). The wave of society represents the masses and the water that makes up the wave are the individuals in society. Every person has an ability to possess a divine thought but cannot ferment it because of societal restraints (the wave). Due to the influence of society, one lacks the strength to act on their original thought and follows the crowd. Martin Luther acted on his original thought but thousands of people adopted his thoughts, even though the reasons for his regional thought are no longer present. Instead of creating and following their own ideas, they adopted Luther s instead. In society, many people follow and imitate well established beliefs, thus leading to the lack of divine thought. In the reading, Emerson came to a conclusion that all people have divine thoughts but cannot act on them because of societal influences. 2. In the reading titled Self Reliance, Ralph Waldo Emerson addressed the topic of truth and honesty. According to Emerson, one who went Upright and vital, and speak the rude truth is unique (Emerson 4). Emerson followed this quote stating that one shall Speak what you think now in hard words, and tomorrow speak what tomorrow thinks...though it contradicts everything (Emerson 7). The Sun s radiation heats the upper atmosphere, sending the energy toward the earth s surface and finally mixes with the planet s counter rotational currents, creating jetstream flows. The winds flow over the ocean s surface creating friction that spawns chops, pushing up the seas forming perfect bands of open ocean swell. Pushed on by gravitational forces, the swells speed away from the winds that they came from, moving across the deeps until they feel the drag of the shallows near the coast. They had perfected the science of celestial navigation and frequently made thousand mile journeys, hitting their target destination perfectly. The Islanders braved the ocean by rowing large canoes made from forest hardwood. They stabilized them with outriggers, enabling the boats to keep from flipping while paddling into the surf. These crafts were propelled by wind being corralled in sails made from pandanus leaves, or when sailing into the wind, they could be rowed with small paddles. The islanders were accustomed to long journeys at sea seeing as these boats were primarily used to venture out on their regular trading routes with other islands, or even on long explorations. It was on these Expeditions that the Ancient Polynesians are believed to have discovered and inhabited hundreds of remote islands, including present day Easter Island and of course Hawaii. It isn t clear how the Polynesians actually discovered surfing, but we can all conjecture. Assuming that these ancient people were familiar with paddling in the ocean, they surely understood that while paddling with a swell, one could feel the next wave building behind them. As the wave begins to peak, it pulls you down, and then draws you up, then allowing one to fall along the face of the wave, skipping forward across the surface. Moreover, the closure of small retail shops, the opening of larger shops and the closure of inefficient large shops may not only provoke increasing costs but also makes employees afraid of losing their jobs, which creates an overall bad reputation of the company and thus an possible reduction of sales. Another matter that should be analyzed and improved is the supply chain. Solution to the mentioned problems The company should conduct a consumer survey among its key/traditional/principal/loyal customers to meet their needs. Building on this idea, this experiment sought to predict the range of a projectile along the horizontal by determining the initial velocity at which the ball was being launched using a ballistic pendulum. The concepts of conservation of energy and momentum were used to calculate the initial velocity. In the first part of this experiment, the velocity at which the ball was launched had to be determined. Only Trial 3, as seen in Table 1, landed within this circle. The first two trials were very close to landing within said circle, but were slightly off. There could have been a few sources of errors. One very easy mistake was poor positioning of both the circle on the carbon paper, and the carbon paper on the floor. Along those same lines, poor angle alignment between the projectile launcher and the carbon paper resulted in slight deviations from the circle. Furthermore, the projectile launcher was not clamped down, and could have been moved ever so slightly to affect the trajectory of the ball. Another source of error could be attributed to slight errors in measurements. Meter sticks are a strong and reliable measuring tool, but has serious limitations when the surfaces are not all even. Human error could have also affected the results, as bad judgment in linear alignment could have resulted in less accurate results. Overall, the average observed range was an acceptable ...
