Conversion therapy consists of those treatments designed to change sexual orientation.
Most often, this is the result of an incongruence between an individual s sexuality and religious or
cultural beliefs. In 1973, the American Psychiatric Association removed homosexuality as a
pathological disorder from the DSM (Haldeman, 2001). However, over forty years later, conversion
therapy still continues. In 1998, the A.P.A. rejected the notion of therapies presuming that
