Goodfellas Analysis Essay
GoodFellas
Intro
At the beginning of the 1970s, two men, by the names of Martin Scorcese and Robert De Niro,
met and started an extremely successful and world renowned string of movie director/actor
collaborations. Over the course of 22 years, spawning from 1973, with their first film Mean
Streets, to 1995, with their most recent work Casino, the duo paired up for 8 movies, most of
which are considered some of the greatest films of all time. The most notable, however, would
have to be their 1990 movie Goodfellas, a classic film which was nominated for 6 oscars, winning
one, and named the greatest film of all time by British film magazine Total Film, an organized
crime movie which is one of my favorite movies.

The character becomes in conflict with himself when he meets and marries a girl by the name
of Karen Friedman, which makes him reconsider his life as a gangster. However, he realizes that
he is too deep into it and can not walk away. Despite this, for most of the film, he remains his
calm, composed and likeable self, as he is shown as the only sane person of the crew. The
catalyst to his character change is drugs. Once he starts dealing and using heroine and cocaine, he
immediately becomes a jumpy and paranoid man, who is unable to keep his cool. His drug
activities and incarceration lose him the respect of Jimmy Conway and made man Paul Cicero, who
he becomes in conflict with, which makes him a marked man.
Setting
The film starts out in a predominantly Italian American neighbourhood in Brooklyn, New York in
the mid 1950s. The values that were held the highest at that time in place were family and money.
The film s other major setting is John F Kennedy Airport, which is the scene of many of the
hijackings and robberies that occur in the movie.
Themes
The two major themes in this movie is friendship and greed, and the two themes often come in
conflict with each other. The mafia is made up of a very select few individuals, who are together
all the time and don t affiliate with outsiders. This makes them grow strong bonds and develop
friendships with each other. According to Jimmy Conway, the two most important things to
remember is to never rat on your friends,

Sinclair Lewis and Babbitt
Sinclair Lewis and Babbitt
The book under analysis herein is Sinclair Lewis Babbitt. The copy I am using in this research is
published by Harcourt, Brace World, Inc., New York, 1950. The original version was published in
1922, but there is no information in this book regarding what printing or edition it may be. This
edition encompasses thirty four chapters which span 401 pages in length as they are printed here.
One interesting note is that the novel is dedicated to Edith Wharton.
The author of the work, Sinclair Lewis, was born in Sauk Centre, Minnesota, and holds the
distinction of being the first American ever to be awarded the Nobel Prize for literature. Lewis was
born in the late 19th century and lived ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If we look at specific passages from the novel, it is easy to see the author s contention as
described above. While he does temporarily decide to fight the limiting influences of a material
society that ostracizes individuality opposed to its established norms, Babbitt does revert back to
his unquestioning superficial self once he recognizes that having original thoughts and acting on
them is isolating, unprofitable and even dangerous. Babbitt is supposed to represent the ordinary
human being, the average businessman and upwardly mobile middle class America. However,
Babbitt seems more artifice than genuine human being. Like the ads that sell Americans products,
Babbitt has forged an identity that was imposed on him by the dominant forces of democratic
capitalism, Just as he was an Elk, a Booster, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, just as the
priests of the Presbyterian Church determined his every religious belief, and the senators who
controlled the Republican Part decided in little smoky rooms in Washington what he should think
about disarmament, tariffs, and Germany, so did the large national advertisers fix the surface of his
life, fix what he believed to be his individuality. These standard advertised wares...at first the signs,
then the substitutes, for joy and passion and wisdom (Lewis 95).
However, for all his satire of Babbitt, Lewis, in keeping with his own character, seems somewhat

Technology And Its Effects On Society Essay
The world we live in is constantly changing and we often look back to see what have changed
and whether it has done so for the better or for the worse. We learned from our past that there are
several factors affecting the change we experience and some examples include natural, political,
societal, economic, and technological factors. Particularly the technological one as it can be
linked back to the others, and we can discover even more interdependencies when we try
dissecting it and classify the components into different types of technology. If we attempt to
illustrate the dependencies and interdependencies of all kinds of technology and its derivatives
and join them with lines, we might be even more confused than when we have started. People in
the past have relied very much on nature to sustain their livelihood; we made use of the
environment around us and began our agricultural and pastoral activities as well as hunting and
gathering. As time progresses, we came up with contraptions to aid our farming, rearing, and
hunting activities, successfully reducing the manpower needed and at the same time increasing
productivity. One example would be the evolution of the irrigation practices; from simple water
diversion technique to the timed sprinklers we have today. These sprinklers are not only used in
agriculture, but in golf courses, gardens and even in our backyards as well. It is interesting how
the product of an idea originally intended to assist in our livelihood can be

Children With Suspected Childhood Apraxia Of Speech
Introduction
Child hood Apraxia of Speech is a motor speech disorder that affects children s ability to say
sounds, syllables, and words. The brain has trouble coordinating muscle movements that are
needed for speech. The child knows exactly what to speak, but the brain has trouble coordinating
the muscle movements. It is different for every person that has this type of disorder. In some other
cases, it can be an unknown cause, meaning it can happen out of the blue, or by mutations. One of
the articles is based off of reliability and validity testing and scoring by the Dynamic Evaluation of
Motor Speech Skills, while the other has different assessments that were tested and transcribed.
First Summary of Article One
In the article, Differential Diagnosis of Children with Suspected Childhood Apraxia of Speech , the
authors describe the signs of a child having Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS). If a child is
suspected of having CAS, here are a few symptoms that can occur, shifting errors on consonants and
vowels in repetitive syllables and sounds, incorrect prosody, and interrupted articulatory between
sounds and syllables. (Murray, McCabe, Heard, Ballard, 2015, p.44). A tool that is used to identify
CAS is a Strands 10 point checklist. (Shriberg, Potter, Strand, 2012). This is a checklist that
contains 10 segmental and suprasegmental structures. Authors say that this checklist doesn t lead to
an exact assessment, but authors rely on it (Strand, McCauley, Weigand,

Preparing A Computer Lab Report
Preparing the Workspace Getting Started
To begin building your computer it is best to have a large flat surface to work on, such as a desk,
table, or wide countertop. You should stay away from carpeted rooms as well, because this
increased the likelihood of static buildup. Before you begin touching components of the computer
to install them into the computer case you should put on your antistatic wrist strap. This antistatic
wrist strap is go prevent any static built up on your hands from damaging the computer components,
as they are very sensitive to static. To begin, open your computer case.
Installing the Processor into the Motherboard Take your motherboard out of its packaging and
place it lightly on to whatever surface you are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You should look at your motherboard manual to tell you where to place the slots for your
motherboard, as this can vary. Open the RAM slots and push in the sticks until they can lock into
position. Make sure the sticks fit correctly and insert them by pushing down on both ends of the
stick.
Installing the I/O Backplate and the Motherboard
Open the computer case that you are currently using by unscrewing any screws holding down the
face panel. Lay your case flat on one side so that the face panel opening is facing the ceiling. The
I/O (Input/Output) backplate should have come with your motherboard and is what will be
sticking out of the rear end of the computer. This is what takes the input of USBs, HDMIs, and
auxiliary cables among other things. Once it is installed it will screw into your motherboard. Fit the
backplate on the rear end of the computer from the inside, and push it in until it snaps in. Install the
Motherboard Standoffs
Your cased should have come with a small bag of standoffs, pictured below. These standoffs are
screwed into and are used to raise the motherboard slightly off the case. Your motherboard may
already have some preinstalled standoffs. The inside of the case should have several small holes
where the standoffs can be placed. Screw all of them into place to prepare for mounting your
motherboard.

KN93
I am conducting biomedical research in the laboratory of cardiac physiology under the mentorship
of Dr. Elizabeth Murphy. Cardiovascular disease is the major cause of death in the US; therefore, a
better understanding of the mechanisms regulating cardiomyocyte death in ischemia and
reperfusion injury are important. Mitochondrial calcium plays a crucial role in the normal
functioning of many processes, including the regulation of cardiac biochemical pathways and
mediating ischemia reperfusion injury. The uptake of calcium into the mitochondrial matrix is
regulated by the mitochondrial calcium uniporter (MCU). An endogenous enzyme, Ca2+
Calmodulin Dependent Kinase II (CaMKII) has shown to regulate cell death and have increased
activity during... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To test these hypotheses I am using wild type mouse embryonic fibroblast (WT MEFs) to test
changes in calcium uptake with and without KN93.To test the first hypothesis I am using
calcium retention capacity assay to assess the uptake of calcium on three subgroups WT only,
WT and DMSO, WT and KN93. This assay is used because it effectively compares calcium
uptake between the subgroups. Considering that KN93 inhibits CaMKII I expect the WT+KN93
group to take up lower amounts of calcium and thus not reach calcium retention capacity. To test
the second hypothesis, I am conducting MTT and propidium iodide testing on four different
subgroups (WT, WT and H202, WT+H202+KN93, and WT+H202+DMSO) to compare the levels
of cell viability and death respectively. I used MTT testing to assess cell viability post exposure of
H202 and I am also using propidium iodide staining to test for the measurements of cell death
among the different groups. I decided to use propidium iodide staining to better test the
cardioprotection of MEFs in ischemic like conditions that would better account for the confounding
variable, cell growth during the incubation

Essay about American Foreign Policy in South Korea
Plan of Investigation
This investigation explores the question To what extent did the American foreign policy in
southern Korea before the outbreak of the Korean War contribute to North Korea s decision to
invade the South? To assess the degree of success to which the policy affected the communists
decision to invade the South, various U.S. documents, especially the official U.S. government
policy documents on Korea, will be evaluated for their effectiveness, as well as role of their role in
Korea. This investigation will not only examine the extent to which the policies contributed to the
invasion, but also consider the role of internal problems of the South and the military strengths of
the North. This investigation will span the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the intent was to keep the armed forces of South Korea well trained against a possible
war, poor U.S. military aid and use of U.S. advisors were not enough to keep its forces and
eventually, they were under trained and under supported (Cumings 6). In the National Security
Council report of 2 April 1948, The Position of the U.S. with Respect to Korea, American
government extended the aid, training, and equipping the Korean armed forces only with an intent
to keep its forces capable of protecting the security of South Korea against any but an overt act of
aggression by North Korean or other forces (Tucker 808). The Truman administration at the time
believed that the South Korean President Syngman Rhee, who was known for constantly
threatening the U.S. with bukgin slogans (march north), might use the heavy weapons to unify
Korea by force, creating tensions between neighboring nations such as the USSR. This led
American government decision to keep South Korea in check by keeping its military capability as
minimal as possible (Leckie 36). By early 1950, the army of South Korea numbered only 60,000
with actual combat capabilities out

The Just Exercise of Political Power
The just exercise of political power is conceived of as resting upon constitutional principles.
Constitutional principles are a position from which we operate justly. However, what constitutes as
just? Throughout history political power derived from many historical foundations that were
deemed just based on the society that upheld those principles. This notion is evident throughout the
development of constitutional doctrines in Greek democracy, Aristotle s political theory, Roman
Republicanism, and English Constitutionalism.
Due to society, cultural diversity troubles the mode of governess. This is because at times there are
circumstances where cultural ideologies oppress other cultures and limit the concept of a democratic

What Aristotle called Polity was based on political power and the best practical government. This
notion differed from Ancient Greek democracy.
During the 4th Century B.C, Aristotle rose as a critic of direct democracy based on two
grounds: are all individuals qualified to govern? Should we select a few individuals who are fit
for leadership? Bernard Crick writes, while democracy was for him a necessary condition for
good government, it was far from a sufficient condition (Crick 1). Aristotle had a negative
outlook on human nature. This led to his belief on how a government system should rule and the
dismissal of a direct democracy. Similarly to Ancients, Aristotle believed that a direct democracy
would only crumble. For this reason, he introduced Checks and balances . Checks and balances
gave limited power to each branch of power and to the people. He identified his a polity by
representative government, balanced government, and a mixed government. Representative
government is one ruled by a leader . And yet, he questioned the idea of placing trust in the hands
of the uneducated, incompetent. More importantly, he believed that in order to be a leader, one
must meet the five characteristics to be considered a leader . The characteristics required:
intelligence, knowledge, experience, wisdom, and virtue. It was especially important for one to
attain wisdom because that is the end result of knowledge

Amory Lovins’ Logic in Natural Capitalism Essay
Amory Lovins Logic in Natural Capitalism
In the first chapter of Natural Capitalism, author Amory Lovins proposes a new method of
capitalism that recognizes the importance of natural and human capital in the industrial system.
Conventional capitalism places value only on capital that yields financial gain, and ignores the
human and natural parts of the equation. Lovins points to this as the reason for many of the
environmental, social, and economic problems on our planet today. He argues that the destructive
practices of conventional capitalism must cease, and that a new industrial revolution must happen
that will change how human beings support themselves and sustain the resources of the planet. In
this chapter he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lovins contrast of sustainable methods versus destructive methods convinces the readers to agree
with his claim and follow his proposed changes.
He discusses four key strategies for implementing natural capitalism; radical resource productivity,
biomimicry, service and flow economy, and investing in natural capital. Radical resource
productivity involves finding every way possible to increase the usage that humans get from natural
resources. This lowers the cost of materials and decreases the amount of pollution due to wasteful
consumption of resources. Biomimicry is the term given for modeling the mechanical processes of
our industries after the self sustaining and interdependent processes found in nature. Such a
transformation would make factories more efficient and less polluting. Creating a service and flow
economy means that consumers would pay for the service a product provides instead of buying the
product itself. Instead of throwing away worn out products, consumers can just return them to the
manufacturer, who will repair them or recycle them. Investing in natural capital means that
corporations value living systems. In this sort of system, logging companies would value not only
the lumber that they harvest, but the forest habitat where the trees came from as well. This gives
companies motivation to not strip a forest bare because they now profit from a thriving forest
habitat. This Lovins calls these points the basis of

Oranges By Gary Soto Essay
The poem Oranges by Gary Soto is about love, the weather, and light and dark. In the first to
lines Gary recalls his first date with his middle school sweetheart. Gary goes to her house and
picks her up and they go to the drugstore. Gary tells his girl that he ll pay for whatever she gets
and she decides to get a candy that cost ten cents. Gary is in a predicament now because he only
has a nickel and chocolate cost a dime but with his quick wit he thinks of a way to pay for it.
When they get to the cashier Gary hands them a nickel and an orangeand he got the chocolate, after
that his girl held his hand for two blocks.

Sadness seems like a stretch when you first read the poem, there isn t even a single word that

surrounds Gary and his girl throughout the poem, winter or perhaps the world,in the foreground we
see bright, intense, young love that ll eventually burn out and when it does we are left with a
cold, harsh, cruel world. Growing up is apparent in this poem in the first few line we know this
is an important moment because it s his first time taking a girl on a date, it s him growing up, he
takes one step to manhood. Love runs the show in this poem it stands out and demands your
attention, when Soto takes the time to look at his girl and see how her face burns with crimson I
don t think any friend would notice that he seems to be paying plenty attention to her. I don t
think Soto is trying to convey a specific message he s just talking about his first date nothing
more, nothing less. Maybe he s trying to convey a message about love but he doesn t give much
insight. Sotos purpose was to tell you a lovey dovey story that ll pull at your heartstring and he was

The Background Of The East Timor Conflict
This paper aims to lay down the background of the East Timor conflict and explain how the
lingering historical sources when added to the recent issues led to an environment where the
national capacity and institutions of the country were demolished. While the history of the conflict
is vast but here the conflict has been divided into two phases, i.e., 1999 2002 and 2006 2008.
Furthermore, the peace building efforts and security initiatives carried out by multiple Actors shall

Autobiography Of The Vaudeville Era
The Vaudeville Era was an incredibly influential time for American musical theatre. It s existence
gave rise to several performers from classic vaudeville acts to Ziegfeld Follies performers, and
burlesque dancers. From (and contributing to) it s death sprang popular new mediums of
performance and entertainment (Revue, Radio, Talkies, and Burlesque). There is little surprise that
nostalgia for vaudevillebegan closely after its death and continues to influence many forms of
American entertainment today. Gypsy is story about a family vaudeville centered act trying to
make it in a time when vaudeville was dying out. The story contains content about vaudeville
and burlesque as it is a biography of the famous burlesque performer Gypsy Rose Lee. Gypsy
followed Gypsy Rose Lee from vaudeville to burlesque. Burlesque was synonymous with
stripping at this time and is partially credited with killing vaudeville. In the movie Gypsy , the
narrator and mother of Miss Gypsy Rose Lee made a comment about how washed up vaudeville
acts go to burlesque . because the narration was done from the point of view of Gypsy s mother,
the vernacular included early to mid 1900 s slang such as the big time (best vaudeville circuit
/ Orpheum Circuit) and banana oil (a ridiculous or wrong statement). Gypsy features many musical
numbers, many of which are the musical acts performed by Gypsy throughout her life; both in
vaudeville and burlesque. The musical style is on key with vaudeville,

Summer Of 83 Chapter 2 Summary
If you aren t willing to face your demons if you can t find the courage to take on your fear and
hurt and anger you might as well wrap them up with a bow and give them to your children.
Because they will be carrying the same thing...unless you are willing to do the work (Page 46).
In chapter 2 summer of 83 Dickey tells his traumatic rape stories. Dickey demonstrated a great
deal of fear and innocence. At the tender age of ten, R.A. was exposed to very explicit behaviour
numerous amounts of time. Dickey, being a child at the time, was not able to express himself out
of fear. The acts were so traumatic for such an innocent child that it left mental scars causing him

He demonstrates great attentiveness to the game and builds his confidence by it. When Dickey
was in search of self awareness, he had little to no confidence in his pitches. He relied heavily on
his knuckle ball, but he could not throw it with demand; resulting in him letting up a lot of runs
and putting his career at jeopardy. Once Dickey turned to his Christian faith, he began to find
his self awareness that he was searching for and started to excel in his performance. Although he
did well, he wanted to be the best, so he paid attention to the game as a whole and realized that
one is only good as their last inning . With this thought in the back of his head he came to the
conclusion that he needs to learn from the mistakes he made in previous games rather than
dwelling on them. Also, he realized that the fans play a crucial part in the game, they know how
to get in the players head and make them feel for their mistakes, so having a rock hard
confidence is key, not only for the fans, but for big games like the playoffs as well. Dickey s new
found confidence is what put him on the map, winning him several accolades and a big contract.

Mythbusters
There are many Computer Science myths that are propagated throughout modern media. These
technical myths can be seen as positive and sometimes negative. A big myth that is often
propagated is the idea of hacking as an individual. Hackers are seen to possess a sort of
superpower that allows them to hack anything alone. In movies and tv shows, hackers are shown to
be able to infiltrate everything from social media accounts to governments. I want to debunk the
myth that hacking is not done quickly by a single person like we see in the movies. Instead, to be the
most effective, hackers form groups which enables them to solve difficult problems in a timely
manner.
In a clip from the movie Swordfish Stanley, a hacker, is forced to hack the Department of Justice.
He is forced to help by Gabriel, the antagonist, who puts a gun to his head. Gabriel says the best
hackers in the world are said to be able to do this in 60 minutes. I want you to do it in 60 seconds.
In the end of the scene, the hacker is able to complete the job in 60 seconds. This scene pushes
forward the idea that a single person can hack the government in less than one minute without
preparation beforehand. This myth is dangerous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example in 2014 Sony Pictures Entertainment was hacked by a group of hackers called
Guardians of Peace. They were upset about a specific movie that Sony was releasing, which
depicted North Korea s government as a parody. After threatening Sony to take it down, they
finally hacked them. They took over 100tb of data from it s servers. That data included emails
between executives and even a handful of unreleased movies. (Griffin, Andrew) This hack was
unprecedented in its scale and vengeance. Because of its scale, this hack could only be
accomplished by a group working towards a single goal. This again is contrary to the stereotype
that hackers work

I. Introduction
Urbanization is likely to be one of the defining phenomena of the 21st Century for Latin America
as well as the rest of the developing world. The world as a whole became more urban than rural
sometime in 2007, a demographic change that was driven by rapid urbanization in the developing
countries. For the Latin American region, this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This migration flow contributed to rapid urban growth, population concentration, and territorial
expansion of these large cities. This process took place in relatively large cities with a significant
consumer market together with a relatively good infrastructure and equipment.
Urbanization in Latin America increased in fifty years (1925 1975) from 25% to 61.2%. The pace
of urbanization, however, declined between 1975 and 2000 and currently the proportion of people
living in urban areas reached 75.3%. While for Latin America during the period 1925 1950 the
urban growth rate almost doubled the total growth rate and the urbanization rate was 2.0%, more
recently, between 1975 2000 the urban growth rate was just almost 50% higher than the total
growth rate and the urbanization rate fell to 0.8%. To characterize the urbanization process within
Latin America is not an easy task, since there is a great deal of heterogeneity among countries in
terms of their population, territory and sociodemographic characteristics. In the year 2000 there are
countries with population around 100 million inhabitants (Brazil and MГ©xico) and other with less
than five millions (Uruguay,Jamaica and PanamГЎ).

Physical Balance Strength
To accomplish the second goal of returning my physical balance and rehab may take me really
testing my character, challenging my age and re learning who I am physically and instead
focusing more on who I want to be in the future. I was once built like a bull and now I am as
weak as I was at ten years old. I fear that if I do not get this goal right it can have fatal
consequences for everything I am trying to accomplish. Attitude will determine everything for me
in pursuing this personal and professional goal. I have two strengths that I can bring to an
organization that can dramatically change the landscape of the business or help increase profits
rapidly. The first strength I bring to an organization is my ability to coach and train my employees
/team with an open and honest review system. By regularly performing reviews and delivering...

This seems to be very difficult for employees, vendors, and others in our business. A smart goal I
would like to further develop is to listen more patiently. I will keep a journal reflecting every
meeting I have with my team and documenting how I did in listening more patiently. Each
meeting will be graded A F just like school grades. These grades will reflect how patiently I have
acted in my transactions. I must achieve a grade of B or higher (80%). Once accomplished I
will become a more competent leader. Will complete this enrichment in a six month period no
longer. My second S.M.A.R.T. goal is to get employees more comfortable with candor. I will
create mandatory candor training so that it becomes second nature to all of us in the
organization. Everyone in the company must learn to take candor about them and deliver candor
in the first 90 days. Each person will receive peer reviews and a peer review of seven or better is

Informative Speech On Blood Donation
Purpose: To persuade the audience to donate blood regularly if their blood is safe and if they are
able to transfer to another human being.
Thesis: People should donate blood, it helps saves lives through a relatively simple and painless
process that provides numerous benefits to the donor.
Claim: Value
Organizational Pattern: Motivated sequence
Introduction
Attention Getter: On October 1st of 2017 a gunman opened fire on a crowd of 22,000
concertgoers 58 of those concertgoers were killed and 546 people were injured. Many citizens
responded not by turning away but by reaching out. And as soon as they heard donations for blood
were needed they drove straight to the blood bank. Each and everyone of those people that donated
were heroes saving millions of lives that were injured that tragic night.
Relevance. According to the Miller Keystone Blood Center 25% or more of us will require
blood at least once in our lifetime. That means that 1 in 4 of us will either live or die depending
on if the blood bank has enough blood stored up for us from the donations.
Credibility. Through extensive research and personal experience of giving blood, I have learned
how important it is to donate blood. I know some of you may hate the thought of needles or think
that giving blood won t really help. But, please consider what I say and make a better informed
decision after hearing the benefits I present in this speech
Thesis. People should donate blood, it helps save lives with a simple and

Rokeach (1960) asserts that Belief Congruence Theory can be applied when whether there is a
group of people is having similar beliefs that will result in social harmony or a group of people
that is having different beliefs which conversely will bring to disharmony. In fact, this theory is
one of the theories of Prejudice. Belief is more important than ethnic or racial membership as a
determinant of social discrimination (Rokeach, 1960, p.135). In another word, this statement
illustrates that belief is a crucial element in resulting in cognitive dissonance or cognitive
consonance. The scene above shows Mike eventually accepts the beliefs that uphold by his
colleagues and they then uphold the similar beliefs which are the belief in the value of
cooperation. At the beginning, Mike refuses to cooperate with his team members because he has
no belief in the value of cooperation. He then rejects to obey to Becky s instruction, refuses to

How For Start A Home Based Business
In this discussion, we are going to focus on issues pertaining to how to start a home based
business. Many of the most successful businesses were actually started it in someone s home. We
re all familiar with the many fables and legends of individual starting multi billion dollar enterprises
in their basements and garages and certainly you can develop a highly successful businessthat is
based from home. Of course, only a small and almost infinitely small fraction of the use of home
based businesses will become as successful as the next Microsoft were Facebook, however, you
can develop a secondary income for yourself to the development of a home based business. In
fact, over time, your home based business may become your full time job. When you are starting
a home based business, the most important thing to do is to first determine what type of business
at you ultimately seeking to start. Many people, with the advent of the Internet, have taken the
starting small e commerce businesses were small blogs are able to generate a modest amount of
income on a monthly basis. As such, we fully recommend that you harness the power the Internet
when you are starting your home based business. However, not all home based businesses need
to be based on the Internet or have a nationwide presence. For instance, if you are very good with
numbers and have a strong background in bookkeeping, then it is very common for you to open up
a part time bookkeeping practice that is based solely out

Go Set A Watchman, By Harper Lee
Prompt #5 In the book Go Set A Watchman , Dr. Finch said not much more than 5% of the South
ever saw a slave, much less owned one. to Jean Louise. This statement brings the idea of slavery
away from the racist views which are clearly present in characters like Dr. Finch and Grady O
Hanlon. Although the validity of this statement is questionable, the impact slaveryhad on society in
this country is clear. Slavery impacted many aspects of society, including the people of Maycomb,
the views of the Southern/Northern states, and racial tension in today s society.
The statement made by Dr. Finch was, in fact, inaccurate. When you look at the results of the 1860
census, you see that the overall percent of families owning slaves is only 8% in the United States as
a whole(CivilWar.net). However, in his statement from the book, he specifically said not much
more than 5% of the South ever saw a slave, much less owned one. The keywords in this
statement were South and Saw . Both of these words can be disproved by the 1860 census. If
you were to look at the different states separately, you would see that almost all southern states
were at or above 25% when looking at families who own slaves. This proves that much more than
5% of the south owned slaves. However, if you were to look at the data as a whole, you would
be mislead by thinking this 8% was a representation of the south. This is most likely what Dr.
Finch s error was when saying this. This is why I do believe that

A Brief Note On The Electronic Health Records
Nursing is a very interesting field because of the fact that it never stays constant; new changes
occur all time in the purpose of improving nursing care. Nursing is a hands on type of occupation;
however, as the year elapsed the nursing field also shares its growth and development in the
technology area. These technologies range from the simplest to the most sophisticated ones.
The (EHR) or Electric Health Records
One of those technologies includes: The (EHR) or electric health records which is merely defined
by the Wikipedia as: a health record in a digital format . An electronic health recordis a compilation

(RTLS) Real Time Locating Systems
One other interesting technology available in the health care field is (RTLS) real time locating
systems; these systems use ID tags or ultrasound to automatically locate people or medical
equipment for inventory purpose and for easy access. It can also be used to monitor patient in
mental health facility in order to ensure their safety. The RTLS is an important tool in the
healthcare system as it can locate employees or patients at any giving time in case of an
emergency at any given time. It can be beneficial in finding any misplaced piece of equipment to
avoid panic and misused of time. One can argue that the RTLS can be viewed as a treat to
privacy when it is used to monitor patients or employees, however as soon as the benefit outgrow
the loss of privacy it is considered acceptable due to the fact that the information retrieved is now
shared with unauthorized people. Similar portable devices like tablet computers and mobile charts
allow the healthcare staff to have access to patient s information and medications at hand that way
they can avoid the countless trips for supplies and medications. As a result they have more time to
focus on the patient s clinical needs.

The Democratic And The Republican Parties Dominate...
Ramesha Wembley
Government 110
Political Ideology
The Democratic and the Republican parties dominate American politics. They are both different in
their philosophies and ideals. Political parties win elections, operate the government, and determine
public policy. They compete with each other for support of the voters over issues that have to do
with the economy, national security and individual liberties. Political parties determine and make
the important choices that affect our everyday lives. Democratic is liberal and left leaning, the
symbol is a donkey and the representing color is blue. Republican is conservative and right leaning,
the symbol is an elephant and the representing color is red. The three political topics that stick out
to me the most are abortion, gun control, and gay rights/marriage. The Democratic Party was
founded on March 3rd, 1828. The founders of liberal democrats are Thomas Jefferson and James
Madison. They became recognized in the mid nineteenth century. Some popular current democrats
would be President Barack Hussein Obama, former senator and secretary of state Hillary Clinton,
and former president Bill Clinton. The word is a Greek origin meaning ruled by the people. Slave
activists founded Republicans on March 4th, 1854. Some popular republicans today are Ted Cruz
(senator), Orrin Grant Hatch, and John Boehner speaker of the house of reps. The word Republican
originates from the middle French meaning belonging to a republic. One

Wilson Vs Macomber
Three s a Crowd
We have nothing to fear, but fear itself. Known by many, this common phrase has few words, but
a intense meaning. In Ernest Hemingway s short story, The Short Happy Life of Francis
Macomber, the overcoming of fear is shown throughout the story. Francis Macomber and his
wife Margaret Macomber are on an African safari with a man name Robert Wilson. Hemingway
portrays Francis Macomber as wealthy and beautiful, yet cowardly. Macomber s wife Margaret
also young and beautiful, but seemingly dissatisfied with her husband of eleven years. Robert
Wilson is portrayed as a fearless man that has little regard for anyone but himself. The story is

In addition to the conflict in the story, there are scenes of rising action. One example of rising
action occurs when Wilson and Macomber return to the wild to hunt for a lion once again.
Macomber is able to get a shot off but only able to wound the lion before it runs away. As Wilson
and Macomber search for the wounded lion to finish it off, he inevitably runs away frightened
for a second time. Hemingway writes Macomber, was running; running wildly, in panic in the
open, running toward the stream. As a result of this instance, Macomber s wife takes a thriving
interest in Wilson. Hemingway writes, Once he had reached over to take his wife s hand . . .
she had removed her hand from his . . . his wife had reached forward and put her hand on Wilson
s shoulder . . . and kissed him on the mouth. Later, Macomber s wife sleeps with Wilson, which
will completely change Macomber s persona for the rest of the story. Macomber is so overcome
with anger, his character quickly changes from cowardly to courageous. Finally, the conflict and
the rising action of Hemingway s story leads to the climax. This occurs when Wilson, Macomber,
and his wife take their final journey into the wild. As a result of the sheer anger Macomber has for
Wilson and his wife, his fear is drowned by adrenaline. Macomber instantly takes on the
characteristics of Wilson as he takes out two buffalo on the journey. At this point, Wilson respects

Resource Leveling Issue Analysis Paper
When a project manager identifies that resources must be leveled within certain areas of the
project he or she should utilize resource leveling approaches. Resource leveling examines the
unequal utilization of resources and makes them equally available through the project. One of
the risks associated with resource leveling is the decrease in productivity as a result of resources
shifting from one task or area to another. In the case of the resources in question being people,
teams from where these employees will be coming from to support the other task might feel
additional workloads which in turn could lead to unhappiness in team members, and can result in
decreased productivity (Damci, Arditi Polat, 2013, p 679). Resource leveling becomes a double
edge sword for the projectmanager. It could create the same issue that is trying to solve if not

Meg Murry Quotes
In the book, A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L Engle, Meg Murry travels throughout the universe
to save her father. During this journey, Meg discovers her weaknesses and strengths. As Meg and
her friends travel they run into many problems, but always find ways to fix them. Throughout the
novel, A Wrinkle in Time, Meg proves to be a character
who shows stubbornness, who learns to be
independent, and who understands love. In A Wrinkle in Time
, Meg Murrytends to be stubborn. An
example of this is when Meg cannot hear the horses, and she asks Charles Wallace to try as hard
as he can so she can hear them. In the text it says, I want to know what they re saying! I want to
know what it means (63). This quote shows Meg was not going to take no for an answer and she
was going to hear what the creatures were singing. Another example of Meg s stubbornness is
when she is paralysed and determined to get back to Camazotz to save Charles Wallace from IT
even though Calvin and Mr. Murry say no. The story says, And you d better take me back to
Camazotz and Charles Wallace quickly (165). Mr. Murry and Calvin are telling Meg it is too

looking for a hand to hold, so she stuffed her fists into her pockets... (131). This is important
because Meg has finally learned that she has to be more self confident and cannot depend on

Possible Solutions to the Foreclosure Crisis Essay
The purpose of this writing is to analyze the foreclosure crisis and offer some solutions to keep
people in their homes and satisfy the financial accounting records of the banking industry. With
more lost jobs on the horizon and fluctuating adjustable mortgage rates, the foreclosure crisis
continues to plague America. A recent report from the MortgageBankers Association reveals that
14% of loans are behind or in foreclosure. This is largely due to lost jobs in this volatile economy.
Many factors are involved in addressing a situation like this and one solution alone cannot solve
the crisis. We saw millions of dollars in stimulus money go to lending institutions only to be left
wondering why the problem is not going away.
The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A few other problems that have arisen as a result of the crisis include lost revenue for cities,
increased crime and, of course, more properties that are vacant. Many places are also reporting a
large increase in homelessness. One group alone is not going to solve the crisis, nor is one
solution by itself. There has to be a combined effort of three major groups and a set of several
solutions deployed at once to gain ground and overtake the crisis. We will discuss this in the next
section.
The Solution Currently, we are seeing some waffling going on concerning this issue in Washington
D.C. along with some lending institutions that will not work with homeowners. This is where the
start of the solution lies. The government, by means of a qualified representative, a large banking
conglomerate overseeing lending institutions and a small group of geographically diverse
homeowners in foreclosure will need to come together to form a coalition. This coalition s sole
purpose will be to work together, with a common goal, to solve this crisis. This group, along with
government imposed rules upon lenders based on solutions, will have the authority to set in motion
a plan that will move toward solving the crisis. We will now look at some solutions, which if
employed in conjunction with each other, will satisfy accounting procedures, keep homeowners

Physics of Roller Coasters Essay
Roller coasters are driven almost entirely by inertial, gravitational and centripetal forces.
Amusement parks keep building faster and more complex roller coasters, but the fundamental
principles at work remain the same.
A roller coaster is like train. It consists of a series of connected cars that move on tracks. But unlike
a passenger train, a roller coaster has no engine or power source of its own. For most of the ride, a
roller coaster is moved only by the forces of inertia and gravity. The only exertion of energyoccurs
at the very beginning of the ride, when the cars are pulled up the first hill, or the lift hill .
The purpose of this first climb is to build up potential energy. The concept of ... Show more content

If the track slopes down, gravity pulls the front of the car toward the ground, so it accelerates. If
the track tilts up, gravity applies a downward force on the back of the coaster, so it decelerates.
The track begins with a steep climp, building up potential energy in the coaster car. The rest of the
track s hills, valleys, twists and turns are to change the built up energy back and forth between
potential energy and kinetic energy. As the train moves, it gradually loses energy to friction until it
reaches the end of the ride.
There are two major types of roller coasters, which are defined by what their tracks are made out
of: wooden and tubular steel. The tracks of wooden roller coasters are a little like traditional
railroad tracks. The metal wheels of the cars roll on a flat metal strip, about 4 to 6 inches across.
This strip is bolted to a running track made out of laminated wood. In most coasters, the car
wheels have the same flanged design as the wheels of a train (the inner part of the wheel has a
wide lip that keeps the car from rolling off the side of the track). The car also has another set of
wheels that runs underneath the track. This keeps the cars from flying up into the air.
Wooden coaster tracks are braced by wooden crossties and diagonal support beams. The whole
track structure is supported by wooden or steel beams However, since the track and support
structure are so

Pros And Cons Of Hezbollah
Israel s primary strategy in terms of countering terrorism is to use force to eliminate threats to its
sovereignty and security. Initially, Israel sought to occupy southern Lebanon as a response to the
Abu Nidal Organization s attempted assassination on the Israeli Prime Minister to the United
Kingdom. This initial occupation had no relationship to Hezbollah, but is the source of Hezbollah
s establishment. Occupation to suppress violence falls under Audrey Cronin s category of
repression in her study of the decline and demise of terrorist organizations, How Terrorism Ends.
Repression is usually a knee jerk reaction that seems to be less promising in terms of effectiveness
than other strategies.
There are pros and cons to repression. Repression ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The positives of going for an arrest are: in a democratic government, the state can maintain its
legitimacy usually by upholding the rule of law and not exercising its ability to commit violence. If
the leader of the terrorist organization is charismatic and appealing to his supporters, which is
usually the case for the most influential terrorist groups, then his isolation would prevent him from
influencing his followers and striking a blow to the morale of the rest of terrorist organization,
possibly to the extent that it would lose motivations to continue its acts of

Examples Of Rebellion In Animal Farm By George Orwell
Rebellion, especially in a community, is when insurgence takes place. It is usually done to create a
change and heighten a community. In the book Animal Farm by George Orwell, rebellion shows
itself through strong idealism, word of mouth(snout), and other communities belief systems.
Old Major has an groundbreaking idea that he thinks will give the animals freedom and the animals
like the idea. Old Major says, Rebellion! I do not know when that Rebellion will come, it might be
in a week or in a hundred years, but I know, as surely as I see this straw beneath my feet, that
sooner or later justice will be done. Fix your eyes on that, comrades, throughout the short remainder
of your lives! And above all, pass on this message of mine to those who come after you, so that
future generations shall carry on the struggle until it is victorious, (Chapter 1). Old Major means
that the animals should think of rebellion throughout their life. The animals believe Old Major, and

For example, Orwell writes, This was what came of rebelling against the laws of Nature, Frederick
and Pilkington said. (Chapter 4). The humans are under the impression that the animals are doing
something malignant. They think that the animals were doing things that were terrible,
foreshadowing the animals ultimate demise. Again Orwell writes, Rumours of a wonderful farm,
where the human beings had been turned out and the animals managed their own affairs, continued
to circulate in vague and distorted forms, and throughout that year a wave of rebelliousness ran
through the countryside. (Chapter 4). The animals everywhere heard about the rebelliousness of
Animal Farm, and how successful they believed it was. They all decided to rebel to try to be like
the wonderful Animal Farm. In conclusion, the Animalistic community inspired animals and
horrified humans on other

Impermeable, surficial materials such as massive bedrock and asphalt paving prevent infiltration so
moisture runs off or evaporates. Water infiltrates more readily into moist, unsaturated regolith than
into dry regolith. Dense, vegetative cover enhances infiltration because soils are typically moist
and porous, thus runoff is retarded. In forested areas, trees slow down the rate at which
precipitation is delivered to the land surface, and considerable moisture is temporarily stored in
humus and forest litter. On gentle, tree covered slopes and flat lying terrain, slow runoff enhances
infiltration. Runoff is accelerated on steep slopes and in areas with sparse vegetation, and
infiltration decreases accordingly. The rate at which water is delivered to the land surface has a
very important effect on infiltration. Short lived storms with intense rainfall result in lower
infiltration and increased runoff because the water piles up on the surface faster than it can
infiltrate. During periods of light to moderate rainfall, runoff is retarded and infiltration rises
accordingly. Special environmental conditions, such as snow melting above frozen ground, greatly
intensify runoff and reduce infiltration; conversely, snow melting above unfrozen ground can result
in a high percentage of the moisture infiltrating the soil. Thus regional and local climatic factors
are also important. 9. How does geology

Environmental Issues Of Human Rights Violations
At both the international and domestic levels, defining the environmental issues as human rights
violations in legal terms is a complex task. However, in the last decade, petitions and suit cases
against climate change issue were gradually filed. In 2006, the first suit case against the
Environmental Protection Agency was reached to the U.S Supreme Court (Aminzade, 2006). A
petition claimed that climate change through emissions and air pollutants caused harm to public
health and welfare. This case grabbed the attention of multiple environmental agencies; it also
gained support from political and human rightsactivists figures (Aminzade, 2006). Another petition
in 2004 by Inuit claimed that the U.S climate change policy violated the human rights to life, the
right to health, and movement (Goldberg Wagner, 2004). The Inuit petition describes how climate
change is affecting the Arctic environment on which the Inuit depend. It argued that climate change
violates the Inuit rights, including the right to life, health, and property. Based on the petition, the
Inuit s right to life is violated because critical food resources are threatened by climate change, and
unpredicted weather events can cause loss of life (Knox, 2009). The Inuit community also argued
that climate change interferes with their right to health by damaging fish on which they depend on
for nutrients, and by diminishing the quality of their drinking water and increasing the spread of
diseases (Knox, 2009).

United States Postal Service
UNIT 1 INDIVIDUAL PROJECT MGT 485 0903B 03 GLOBAL STRATEGIC
MANAGEMENT ALFRED SIU AUGUST 30, 2009 BY: TINA RAULERSON The most
concerning threat USPS faces is the rise in operating expenses, particularly the increase in
energy prices and health insurance premiums. Energy prices are at all time highs. With USPS
dependency in both, air and ground transportation, energy prices will play a major role in the
company s budget. USPS is part of the Federal Employee Health Benefit program and premiums
for these benefits have steadily increased over the last couple of years. For example, premiums
increased in 2003 by 11.1%. Health benefit payments increased 14% in 2003 from 2002, and by
15.8% in 2004 from 2003 levels.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Long Term Action Plan USPS should gradually replace their aging delivery vehicles with hybrid
or electric vehicles to reduce delivery costs and dependency on gas. A hybrid vehicle not only saves
the Postal Service 32 40% on fuel costs (roughly $1200/car/year based on 30k miles), depending
on the vehicle, but USPS would also receive a $3,000 tax incentive on every vehicle. In cities,
electric vehicles or SMART cars could be used since delivery routes are shorter with frequent
stops. Aside from being fuel efficient, they adhere to the ever stricter emissions rules. With well
over 200,000 postal vehicles currently in the system, savings would approach the $1billion mark.
Since USPS has monopoly in Standard Mail, prices in this sector should be raised while prices in
the package delivery sector should be lowered, albeit marginally, in order to attract higher
market share. A raise in first class postage of a little over 8% to $.40 is presently being reviewed.
Higher revenues would result from the newly raised prices in the monopolized Standard Mail
market, while higher volume sales from the package delivery segment would boost revenues.
USPS should first appeal to the US government to leave the Federal Employee Health Benefit
program. Then, USPS should research other health plans that are more cost efficient, whether it be
a new carrier in the private sector, a change in benefits coverage or alter the level of an employees
contribution to

How Does Ruper Nunn Create Suspense In The Last Death Scene
Macbeth Scene Analysis
Which version of Macbeth s final death is the most suspenseful? Why?
A good director is able to keep the audience engaged in the play, while a great director is able to
make the audience feel like they are a part of the play. Since the play, Macbeth , can be interpreted
in numerous ways, how the director chooses to include suspense in the final death scene can show
insight into the director s perspective. In the versions produced by Trevor Nunn, Rupert Goold, and
Roman Polanski, each performed a unique variation of the same play, but only one proved to be the
most suspenseful through the use of sound, lighting, and props.
The use of music and sound can emphasize important parts to make the scene more suspenseful
for the audience. In Trevor Nunn s version, he used an organ as background sound. In particular,
when Ian McKellen had a sword placed on his neck the organ becomes loud and ear piercing. This
captivated the audience, by raising their heart rate and caused suspense as to who was holding the
other end of the sword. Whereas, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Goold s version was modernized by the use of guns instead of swords. As Patrick Stewart pulled
out his gun to shoot Michael Feast once and for all, Stewart pulls the trigger, the audience flinched
because of the inevitable end, but the cartridge was empty. The buildup of anticipation for the end
was clearly identified in this scene. Whereas Roman Polanski s version took a different view,
Polanski used the head of Jon Finch to emphasize the death of Macbeth. This created suspense by
Macduff, who beheaded Jon Finch, and his head fell from at least 10 feet in the air. The utter
shock of Macbeth headless was forced upon the audience, which created the suspense of the final
death. However, Goold s version has once again proved to be the most suspenseful with the use of
props that kept the audience on the edge of their seats in

Chinese Immigrant Experience
The second group of the new immigrants are the working adults, and they can differ from the
legally leaving China and illegally leaving China. The ones that are legally leaving China that
comes to the U.S. most of the time are looking for a better job opportunity. Just like universities
in China, job opportunities in China is also very limited and competitive. Thousands of people
might be fighting over a single good job title. Because of this, it is very hard to land a decent
job. Even the people that gets a job, because of how competitive it is people often faces harsh
working environment, long working hours, and minimum pay. Dean Irvine quoted in a CNN
article May 8, 2013 According to a report by the state run Xinhua news agency, nearly 7 million
new Chinese graduates entered the jobs market last year. It s a figure that is set to increase in the

Being a global citizen one must accept all those who are different from us, culture that sounds
strange to us and people who looks nothing like what we are familiar to. For me, being part of
the Chinese group who is studying aboard here in the U.S. I feel a strong feeling of accepting.
Students here at ASU are extremely diverse. There are people from India, South America,
middle east, and many more places. We are all here gathered and involved in the same college
society. Like it or not, it forces you to get involved with people all around the globe. Leo Tolstoy
once said, I think... if it is true that there are as many minds as there are heads, then there are as
many kinds of love as there are hearts. We, as people of the earth, need to learn and understand
about each other. Most of our conflict are a result of misunderstanding and not communicating. It is
very important for students and working classes of people to go to come together and learn about
each

  • 2. Goodfellas Analysis Essay GoodFellas Intro At the beginning of the 1970s, two men, by the names of Martin Scorcese and Robert De Niro, met and started an extremely successful and world renowned string of movie director/actor collaborations. Over the course of 22 years, spawning from 1973, with their first film Mean Streets, to 1995, with their most recent work Casino, the duo paired up for 8 movies, most of which are considered some of the greatest films of all time. The most notable, however, would have to be their 1990 movie Goodfellas, a classic film which was nominated for 6 oscars, winning one, and named the greatest film of all time by British film magazine Total Film, an organized crime movie which is one of my favorite movies. Describe the story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The character becomes in conflict with himself when he meets and marries a girl by the name of Karen Friedman, which makes him reconsider his life as a gangster. However, he realizes that he is too deep into it and can not walk away. Despite this, for most of the film, he remains his calm, composed and likeable self, as he is shown as the only sane person of the crew. The catalyst to his character change is drugs. Once he starts dealing and using heroine and cocaine, he immediately becomes a jumpy and paranoid man, who is unable to keep his cool. His drug activities and incarceration lose him the respect of Jimmy Conway and made man Paul Cicero, who he becomes in conflict with, which makes him a marked man. Setting The film starts out in a predominantly Italian American neighbourhood in Brooklyn, New York in the mid 1950s. The values that were held the highest at that time in place were family and money. The film s other major setting is John F Kennedy Airport, which is the scene of many of the hijackings and robberies that occur in the movie. Themes The two major themes in this movie is friendship and greed, and the two themes often come in conflict with each other. The mafia is made up of a very select few individuals, who are together all the time and don t affiliate with outsiders. This makes them grow strong bonds and develop friendships with each other. According to Jimmy Conway, the two most important things to remember is to never rat on your friends, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If we look at specific passages from the novel, it is easy to see the author s contention as described above. While he does temporarily decide to fight the limiting influences of a material society that ostracizes individuality opposed to its established norms, Babbitt does revert back to his unquestioning superficial self once he recognizes that having original thoughts and acting on them is isolating, unprofitable and even dangerous. Babbitt is supposed to represent the ordinary human being, the average businessman and upwardly mobile middle class America. However, Babbitt seems more artifice than genuine human being. Like the ads that sell Americans products, Babbitt has forged an identity that was imposed on him by the dominant forces of democratic capitalism, Just as he was an Elk, a Booster, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, just as the priests of the Presbyterian Church determined his every religious belief, and the senators who controlled the Republican Part decided in little smoky rooms in Washington what he should think about disarmament, tariffs, and Germany, so did the large national advertisers fix the surface of his life, fix what he believed to be his individuality. • 5. Technology And Its Effects On Society Essay The world we live in is constantly changing and we often look back to see what have changed and whether it has done so for the better or for the worse. We learned from our past that there are several factors affecting the change we experience and some examples include natural, political, societal, economic, and technological factors. Particularly the technological one as it can be linked back to the others, and we can discover even more interdependencies when we try dissecting it and classify the components into different types of technology. If we attempt to illustrate the dependencies and interdependencies of all kinds of technology and its derivatives and join them with lines, we might be even more confused than when we have started. People in the past have relied very much on nature to sustain their livelihood; we made use of the environment around us and began our agricultural and pastoral activities as well as hunting and gathering. As time progresses, we came up with contraptions to aid our farming, rearing, and hunting activities, successfully reducing the manpower needed and at the same time increasing productivity. One example would be the evolution of the irrigation practices; from simple water diversion technique to the timed sprinklers we have today. These sprinklers are not only used in agriculture, but in golf courses, gardens and even in our backyards as well. It is interesting how the product of an idea originally intended to assist in our livelihood can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The brain has trouble coordinating muscle movements that are needed for speech. The child knows exactly what to speak, but the brain has trouble coordinating the muscle movements. It is different for every person that has this type of disorder. In some other cases, it can be an unknown cause, meaning it can happen out of the blue, or by mutations. One of the articles is based off of reliability and validity testing and scoring by the Dynamic Evaluation of Motor Speech Skills, while the other has different assessments that were tested and transcribed. First Summary of Article One In the article, Differential Diagnosis of Children with Suspected Childhood Apraxia of Speech , the authors describe the signs of a child having Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS). If a child is suspected of having CAS, here are a few symptoms that can occur, shifting errors on consonants and vowels in repetitive syllables and sounds, incorrect prosody, and interrupted articulatory between sounds and syllables. (Murray, McCabe, Heard, Ballard, 2015, p.44). A tool that is used to identify CAS is a Strands 10 point checklist. (Shriberg, Potter, Strand, 2012). • 8. KN93 I am conducting biomedical research in the laboratory of cardiac physiology under the mentorship of Dr. Elizabeth Murphy. Cardiovascular disease is the major cause of death in the US; therefore, a better understanding of the mechanisms regulating cardiomyocyte death in ischemia and reperfusion injury are important. Mitochondrial calcium plays a crucial role in the normal functioning of many processes, including the regulation of cardiac biochemical pathways and mediating ischemia reperfusion injury. The uptake of calcium into the mitochondrial matrix is regulated by the mitochondrial calcium uniporter (MCU). To test these hypotheses I am using wild type mouse embryonic fibroblast (WT MEFs) to test changes in calcium uptake with and without KN93.To test the first hypothesis I am using calcium retention capacity assay to assess the uptake of calcium on three subgroups WT only, WT and DMSO, WT and KN93. This assay is used because it effectively compares calcium uptake between the subgroups. Considering that KN93 inhibits CaMKII I expect the WT+KN93 group to take up lower amounts of calcium and thus not reach calcium retention capacity. To test the second hypothesis, I am conducting MTT and propidium iodide testing on four different subgroups (WT, WT and H202, WT+H202+KN93, and WT+H202+DMSO) to compare the levels of cell viability and death respectively. I used MTT testing to assess cell viability post exposure of H202 and I am also using propidium iodide staining to test for the measurements of cell death among the different groups. The Truman administration at the time believed that the South Korean President Syngman Rhee, who was known for constantly threatening the U.S. with bukgin slogans (march north), might use the heavy weapons to unify Korea by force, creating tensions between neighboring nations such as the USSR. Constitutional principles are a position from which we operate justly. However, what constitutes as just? This notion is evident throughout the development of constitutional doctrines in Greek democracy, Aristotle s political theory, Roman Republicanism, and English Constitutionalism. What Aristotle called Polity was based on political power and the best practical government. This notion differed from Ancient Greek democracy. During the 4th Century B.C, Aristotle rose as a critic of direct democracy based on two grounds: are all individuals qualified to govern? Should we select a few individuals who are fit for leadership? Bernard Crick writes, while democracy was for him a necessary condition for good government, it was far from a sufficient condition (Crick 1). Aristotle had a negative outlook on human nature. This led to his belief on how a government system should rule and the dismissal of a direct democracy. Similarly to Ancients, Aristotle believed that a direct democracy would only crumble. For this reason, he introduced Checks and balances . Checks and balances gave limited power to each branch of power and to the people. He identified his a polity by representative government, balanced government, and a mixed government. Representative government is one ruled by a leader . And yet, he questioned the idea of placing trust in the hands of the uneducated, incompetent. More importantly, he believed that in order to be a leader, one must meet the five characteristics to be considered a leader . Conventional capitalism places value only on capital that yields financial gain, and ignores the human and natural parts of the equation. Lovins points to this as the reason for many of the environmental, social, and economic problems on our planet today. Lovins contrast of sustainable methods versus destructive methods convinces the readers to agree with his claim and follow his proposed changes. He discusses four key strategies for implementing natural capitalism; radical resource productivity, biomimicry, service and flow economy, and investing in natural capital. Radical resource productivity involves finding every way possible to increase the usage that humans get from natural resources. This lowers the cost of materials and decreases the amount of pollution due to wasteful consumption of resources. Biomimicry is the term given for modeling the mechanical processes of our industries after the self sustaining and interdependent processes found in nature. Such a transformation would make factories more efficient and less polluting. Creating a service and flow economy means that consumers would pay for the service a product provides instead of buying the product itself. Instead of throwing away worn out products, consumers can just return them to the manufacturer, who will repair them or recycle them. Investing in natural capital means that corporations value living systems. In this sort of system, logging companies would value not only the lumber that they harvest, but the forest habitat where the trees came from as well. This gives companies motivation to not strip a forest bare because they now profit from a thriving forest habitat. This Lovins calls these points the basis of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Autobiography Of The Vaudeville Era The Vaudeville Era was an incredibly influential time for American musical theatre. It s existence gave rise to several performers from classic vaudeville acts to Ziegfeld Follies performers, and burlesque dancers. From (and contributing to) it s death sprang popular new mediums of performance and entertainment (Revue, Radio, Talkies, and Burlesque). There is little surprise that nostalgia for vaudevillebegan closely after its death and continues to influence many forms of American entertainment today. Gypsy is story about a family vaudeville centered act trying to make it in a time when vaudeville was dying out. The story contains content about vaudeville and burlesque as it is a biography of the famous burlesque performer Gypsy Rose Lee. Gypsy followed Gypsy Rose Lee from vaudeville to burlesque. Burlesque was synonymous with stripping at this time and is partially credited with killing vaudeville. In the movie Gypsy , the narrator and mother of Miss Gypsy Rose Lee made a comment about how washed up vaudeville acts go to burlesque . because the narration was done from the point of view of Gypsy s mother, the vernacular included early to mid 1900 s slang such as the big time (best vaudeville circuit / Orpheum Circuit) and banana oil (a ridiculous or wrong statement). Once Dickey turned to his Christian faith, he began to find his self awareness that he was searching for and started to excel in his performance. Although he did well, he wanted to be the best, so he paid attention to the game as a whole and realized that one is only good as their last inning . With this thought in the back of his head he came to the conclusion that he needs to learn from the mistakes he made in previous games rather than dwelling on them. These technical myths can be seen as positive and sometimes negative. A big myth that is often propagated is the idea of hacking as an individual. Hackers are seen to possess a sort of superpower that allows them to hack anything alone. In movies and tv shows, hackers are shown to be able to infiltrate everything from social media accounts to governments. I want to debunk the myth that hacking is not done quickly by a single person like we see in the movies. Instead, to be the most effective, hackers form groups which enables them to solve difficult problems in a timely manner. In a clip from the movie Swordfish Stanley, a hacker, is forced to hack the Department of Justice. He is forced to help by Gabriel, the antagonist, who puts a gun to his head. Gabriel says the best hackers in the world are said to be able to do this in 60 minutes. I want you to do it in 60 seconds. This statement brings the idea of slavery away from the racist views which are clearly present in characters like Dr. Finch and Grady O Hanlon. Although the validity of this statement is questionable, the impact slaveryhad on society in this country is clear. Slavery impacted many aspects of society, including the people of Maycomb, the views of the Southern/Northern states, and racial tension in today s society. The statement made by Dr. Finch was, in fact, inaccurate. When you look at the results of the 1860 census, you see that the overall percent of families owning slaves is only 8% in the United States as a whole(CivilWar.net). However, in his statement from the book, he specifically said not much more than 5% of the South ever saw a slave, much less owned one. The keywords in this statement were South and Saw . Both of these words can be disproved by the 1860 census. If you were to look at the different states separately, you would see that almost all southern states were at or above 25% when looking at families who own slaves. This proves that much more than 5% of the south owned slaves. However, if you were to look at the data as a whole, you would be mislead by thinking this 8% was a representation of the south. This is most likely what Dr. Finch s error was when saying this. This is why I do believe that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They are both different in their philosophies and ideals. Political parties win elections, operate the government, and determine public policy. They compete with each other for support of the voters over issues that have to do with the economy, national security and individual liberties. Political parties determine and make the important choices that affect our everyday lives. Democratic is liberal and left leaning, the symbol is a donkey and the representing color is blue. Republican is conservative and right leaning, the symbol is an elephant and the representing color is red. The three political topics that stick out to me the most are abortion, gun control, and gay rights/marriage. The Democratic Party was founded on March 3rd, 1828. The founders of liberal democrats are Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. They became recognized in the mid nineteenth century. Some popular current democrats would be President Barack Hussein Obama, former senator and secretary of state Hillary Clinton, and former president Bill Clinton. The word is a Greek origin meaning ruled by the people. Slave activists founded Republicans on March 4th, 1854. Amusement parks keep building faster and more complex roller coasters, but the fundamental principles at work remain the same. A roller coaster is like train. It consists of a series of connected cars that move on tracks. But unlike a passenger train, a roller coaster has no engine or power source of its own. For most of the ride, a roller coaster is moved only by the forces of inertia and gravity. The only exertion of energyoccurs at the very beginning of the ride, when the cars are pulled up the first hill, or the lift hill . The purpose of this first climb is to build up potential energy. The concept of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the track slopes down, gravity pulls the front of the car toward the ground, so it accelerates. If the track tilts up, gravity applies a downward force on the back of the coaster, so it decelerates. The track begins with a steep climp, building up potential energy in the coaster car. The rest of the track s hills, valleys, twists and turns are to change the built up energy back and forth between potential energy and kinetic energy. As the train moves, it gradually loses energy to friction until it reaches the end of the ride. There are two major types of roller coasters, which are defined by what their tracks are made out of: wooden and tubular steel. The tracks of wooden roller coasters are a little like traditional railroad tracks. The metal wheels of the cars roll on a flat metal strip, about 4 to 6 inches across. This strip is bolted to a running track made out of laminated wood. In most coasters, the car wheels have the same flanged design as the wheels of a train (the inner part of the wheel has a wide lip that keeps the car from rolling off the side of the track). The car also has another set of wheels that runs underneath the track. This keeps the cars from flying up into the air. If the leader of the terrorist organization is charismatic and appealing to his supporters, which is usually the case for the most influential terrorist groups, then his isolation would prevent him from influencing his followers and striking a blow to the morale of the rest of terrorist organization, possibly to the extent that it would lose motivations to continue its acts of ... • 41. Examples Of Rebellion In Animal Farm By George Orwell Rebellion, especially in a community, is when insurgence takes place. It is usually done to create a change and heighten a community. In the book Animal Farm by George Orwell, rebellion shows itself through strong idealism, word of mouth(snout), and other communities belief systems. Old Major has an groundbreaking idea that he thinks will give the animals freedom and the animals like the idea. Old Major says, Rebellion! I do not know when that Rebellion will come, it might be in a week or in a hundred years, but I know, as surely as I see this straw beneath my feet, that sooner or later justice will be done. Fix your eyes on that, comrades, throughout the short remainder of your lives! And above all, pass on this message of mine to those who come after you, so that future generations shall carry on the struggle until it is victorious, (Chapter 1). Old Major means that the animals should think of rebellion throughout their life. The animals believe Old Major, and they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, Orwell writes, This was what came of rebelling against the laws of Nature, Frederick and Pilkington said. (Chapter 4). The humans are under the impression that the animals are doing something malignant. They think that the animals were doing things that were terrible, foreshadowing the animals ultimate demise. Again Orwell writes, Rumours of a wonderful farm, where the human beings had been turned out and the animals managed their own affairs, continued to circulate in vague and distorted forms, and throughout that year a wave of rebelliousness ran through the countryside. (Chapter 4). The animals everywhere heard about the rebelliousness of Animal Farm, and how successful they believed it was. They all decided to rebel to try to be like the wonderful Animal Farm. In conclusion, the Animalistic community inspired animals and horrified humans on other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Impermeable, surficial materials such as massive bedrock and asphalt paving prevent infiltration so moisture runs off or evaporates. Water infiltrates more readily into moist, unsaturated regolith than into dry regolith. Dense, vegetative cover enhances infiltration because soils are typically moist and porous, thus runoff is retarded. In forested areas, trees slow down the rate at which precipitation is delivered to the land surface, and considerable moisture is temporarily stored in humus and forest litter. On gentle, tree covered slopes and flat lying terrain, slow runoff enhances infiltration. Runoff is accelerated on steep slopes and in areas with sparse vegetation, and infiltration decreases accordingly. The rate at which water is delivered to the land surface has a very important effect on infiltration. Short lived storms with intense rainfall result in lower infiltration and increased runoff because the water piles up on the surface faster than it can infiltrate. During periods of light to moderate rainfall, runoff is retarded and infiltration rises accordingly. Special environmental conditions, such as snow melting above frozen ground, greatly intensify runoff and reduce infiltration; conversely, snow melting above unfrozen ground can result in a high percentage of the moisture infiltrating the soil. Thus regional and local climatic factors are also important. 9. How does geology ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Environmental Issues Of Human Rights Violations At both the international and domestic levels, defining the environmental issues as human rights violations in legal terms is a complex task. However, in the last decade, petitions and suit cases against climate change issue were gradually filed. In 2006, the first suit case against the Environmental Protection Agency was reached to the U.S Supreme Court (Aminzade, 2006). A petition claimed that climate change through emissions and air pollutants caused harm to public health and welfare. This case grabbed the attention of multiple environmental agencies; it also gained support from political and human rightsactivists figures (Aminzade, 2006). Another petition in 2004 by Inuit claimed that the U.S climate change policy violated the human rights to life, the right to health, and movement (Goldberg Wagner, 2004). The Inuit petition describes how climate change is affecting the Arctic environment on which the Inuit depend. It argued that climate change violates the Inuit rights, including the right to life, health, and property. Based on the petition, the Inuit s right to life is violated because critical food resources are threatened by climate change, and unpredicted weather events can cause loss of life (Knox, 2009). The Inuit community also argued that climate change interferes with their right to health by damaging fish on which they depend on for nutrients, and by diminishing the quality of their drinking water and increasing the spread of diseases (Knox, 2009). ... • 44. United States Postal Service UNIT 1 INDIVIDUAL PROJECT MGT 485 0903B 03 GLOBAL STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT ALFRED SIU AUGUST 30, 2009 BY: TINA RAULERSON The most concerning threat USPS faces is the rise in operating expenses, particularly the increase in energy prices and health insurance premiums. Energy prices are at all time highs. With USPS dependency in both, air and ground transportation, energy prices will play a major role in the company s budget. USPS is part of the Federal Employee Health Benefit program and premiums for these benefits have steadily increased over the last couple of years. For example, premiums increased in 2003 by 11.1%. Health benefit payments increased 14% in 2003 from 2002, and by 15.8% in 2004 from 2003 levels.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Long Term Action Plan USPS should gradually replace their aging delivery vehicles with hybrid or electric vehicles to reduce delivery costs and dependency on gas. A hybrid vehicle not only saves the Postal Service 32 40% on fuel costs (roughly $1200/car/year based on 30k miles), depending on the vehicle, but USPS would also receive a $3,000 tax incentive on every vehicle. In cities, electric vehicles or SMART cars could be used since delivery routes are shorter with frequent stops. Aside from being fuel efficient, they adhere to the ever stricter emissions rules. With well over 200,000 postal vehicles currently in the system, savings would approach the $1billion mark. Since USPS has monopoly in Standard Mail, prices in this sector should be raised while prices in the package delivery sector should be lowered, albeit marginally, in order to attract higher market share. A raise in first class postage of a little over 8% to $.40 is presently being reviewed. Higher revenues would result from the newly raised prices in the monopolized Standard Mail market, while higher volume sales from the package delivery segment would boost revenues. USPS should first appeal to the US government to leave the Federal Employee Health Benefit program. Then, USPS should research other health plans that are more cost efficient, whether it be a new carrier in the private sector, a change in benefits coverage or alter the level of an employees contribution to ... • 45. How Does Ruper Nunn Create Suspense In The Last Death Scene Macbeth Scene Analysis Which version of Macbeth s final death is the most suspenseful? Why? A good director is able to keep the audience engaged in the play, while a great director is able to make the audience feel like they are a part of the play. Since the play, Macbeth , can be interpreted in numerous ways, how the director chooses to include suspense in the final death scene can show insight into the director s perspective. In the versions produced by Trevor Nunn, Rupert Goold, and Roman Polanski, each performed a unique variation of the same play, but only one proved to be the most suspenseful through the use of sound, lighting, and props. The use of music and sound can emphasize important parts to make the scene more suspenseful for the audience. In Trevor Nunn s version, he used an organ as background sound. In particular, when Ian McKellen had a sword placed on his neck the organ becomes loud and ear piercing. This captivated the audience, by raising their heart rate and caused suspense as to who was holding the other end of the sword. Whereas, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Goold s version was modernized by the use of guns instead of swords. As Patrick Stewart pulled out his gun to shoot Michael Feast once and for all, Stewart pulls the trigger, the audience flinched because of the inevitable end, but the cartridge was empty. The buildup of anticipation for the end was clearly identified in this scene. Whereas Roman Polanski s version took a different view, Polanski used the head of Jon Finch to emphasize the death of Macbeth. This created suspense by Macduff, who beheaded Jon Finch, and his head fell from at least 10 feet in the air. The utter shock of Macbeth headless was forced upon the audience, which created the suspense of the final death. However, Goold s version has once again proved to be the most suspenseful with the use of props that kept the audience on the edge of their seats in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
