The Gallup Poll
The Gallup Poll
When Gallup conducts a national opinion poll, the starting place is where all or most Americans
are equally likely to be found. That place is in their home, which is the starting place for nearly all
national polling. The actual target audiences, referred to as national adults , are aged 18 and over,
living in telephone households within the United States. What I don t understand is that Gallup
excludes college students living on campus, armed forces living on military bases, prisoners,
hospitalized people, and anyone else who is living institutionalized. I think these exclusions are
unfair. The article explains that the reasoning for not including the people who live in the places
mentioned above is because of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another thing I found interesting in this article is that Gallup as well as other major
organizations use sample sizes of 1,000 1,500 because these sample sizes are enough to give a good
balance of accuracy opposed to much larger samples which would be very expensive. I hadn t
considered expense when it comes to collecting a sample but apparently it can be very costly. For
instance, if a sample size of 4,000 were selected each time there was a poll, the increase in
accuracy would be very small, and would not justify the increase in cost. Now, I believe this to
be true because I do think that the people behind things like the Gallop Poll are very smart
statisticians and would not lie when it comes to what effects the sample size has on the accuracy
of results. It makes absolute sense to me that specific ways of measuring the accuracy of samples
have been done for many years and the processes and results have been analyzed thoroughly with
each design.
The poll of such a small number of people do not invalidate the results since for instance, as stated
in the article, if the sample size was raised to 2,000 instead of 1,000, for a Gallup Poll there would
be a gain of only 1% in terms of accuracy, and a 100% increase in terms of cost. I can understand
that looking at results with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points is reasonable
compared to spending a lot more money and only change the margin of error by

Justice in Hamlet
In the revenge play of Hamlet, the idea of poetic justice can be seen throughout the play various
times. Shakespeare allows the reader to understand the mistakes of each character by killing them
off in a justly manner. While seeking revenge, the main characters of the play earn their poetic
ending, permitting Shakespeare to restore the karmic balance of the play. Claudius, Leartes,
Polonius, are all killed poetically as a direct result of their actions, while Ophelia is used to
reiterate the poetic justices in the other character because of the fact that she is not killed poetically.
Claudius poisoned King Hamlet in order to become King himself. While he feels the guilt of killing
his brother, Claudius doesn t want to give up the fruits ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

(A.II.sc.i.ln 6 15). Polonius wants to know what is Laertes doing and has sent Reynaldo to do
his spying for him. We can see how these actions and character traits will continue throughout the
play and will lead to his poetic death. Even though his death is an accident, he gets what he
deserves because he is where he shouldn t be: the King and Queen s chambers. Hamlet thinks he
is Claudius and that is why he kills him. When Hamlet finds out that it is, in fact, Polonius he
says, Thou wretched, rash, intruding fool, farewell. I took thee for thy better. Take thy fortune.
Thou find st to be too busy is some danger. (A.III.sc.iv.ln 32 34). Polonius death is the most
notable act of poetic justice in the play. Shakespeare uses this character s death to show the
audience how snooping and meddling into other people s business is morally wrong and you will
be punished for it accordingly.
The character of Ophelia is driven to insanity

Use Of Narrative In The Princess Bride
Taylor Lane Colyer
Dr. Cossar
Final Paper
April 11, 2017
Genre and Narrative in The Princess Bride
Genre and narrative appear in all forms of film; they cannot exist without each other. Films have
some form of narrative that makes it unique for a specific genre. This is due to the way the story
is told. Depending on how the story is told the audience will generate a response to the film they
are watching. Narrative and genre are used to explain the story and plot of a film. Let s look at The
Princess Bride for example; this is a genre film that uses narrative to tell a story. Through narrative
the film is able to get a response out of the audience and the audience knows how to respond to this
particular film because of past genre and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are also action/adventure elements with the fire swamp and the pit of despair. These
different genres are what draw in such a diverse crowd. Genre theorist Rick Altman states how
genre classifications are down to the pre reading and knowledge that audiences have of texts,
before they watch a film they will know the story, characters, conventions, and mis en scene of
the genre (Altman: 1989). Audience members know they are in for a combination of a lot of
genres when they watch this film. The first ever film poster for the said Heroes, Giants, Villains,
Wizards, True love. Not just your basic, average, everyday, ordinary, run of the mill, ho hum
fairytale. The film brings in a very diverse crowd, because it contains so many genres. Not
everybody likes story s about true love and not everybody likes story s about wizards and giants,
so why not put them all together. I know several older men who love this film and I also know
several young women my age who love this film just as much. The great thing about this film in
particular is that the audience might think they have a pre determined answer as to what will
happen in the end, but due to the multitude of genres it causes the audience to question themselves
and form hypotheses.
Film theorist Erlend Lavik tells us that, practically all films contain gaps that the audience must fill
in. Seeking order and coherence, we instinctively make hypotheses about what is going to happen

Evaluation Of An Assessment Process Paper
Assessment Process Paper
During my practicum, my supervisor and I have discussed the steps I will need to take in order to
meet my requirements. We have discussed completing an assessment, with what student and when
it will occur. The student she picked was due for a re evaluation and I was required to give him the
Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children5th Edition (WISC V). In order to prepare for the
assessment, I used the assessment tools at Brinckerhoff Elementary School, and practiced giving
the test on my own in a private room. I prepared the record form, by marking where my starting
points are located. During practice, I focused on the query items by going over what I would look
for in each answer from the student. I also ensured I knew what each test required, to allow the
process to be less robotic. The school psychologist and I discussed that she will be present during
the first evaluations. The school psychologist informed me that she would do the assessment with
me until she feels I am 100% comfortable and confident to complete the assessment. This way, if I
have any issues, she will guide me without breaking the standardization of the test. When it came to
picking the test, my practicum supervisor determined what assessment would be used. She picked
the assessments that were suited best for the student s evaluation. At first, she had me review the
student s record, and then determine what tests will be used to reevaluate the student. Prior to

Battle Royale Analysis
When Battle Royale first made its debut to the world, there were already concerns from the
government and parents about its effects on teenagers. Despite the Motion Picture Code Committee
restricting admission to anyone under sixteen, teenagers still camped out for two days to see the
opening screening (G. Sparks and C. Sparks 269). The film was controversial for its extreme
violence, but the reactions of the adults to try and control their children tellingly echoed the conflict
within the film itself, something its director had purposefully highlighted. Kinji Fukasaku used
props throughout his film to represent the challenging relationships between the older and younger
generations of Japan. Based in real life encounters and the failings of the Japanese school system,
Fukasaku brought the conflicts between the government, parents, teachers, and students to the
screen in a darkly humorous bloodbath.
Authority Figures versus Children
To better understand Fukasaku s approach to his film, it will help to examine his own childhood.
As a young teenager, Fukasaku grew up in a country plagued by the horrors of World War II:
His class was drafted into the war effort, and they found themselves working in a munitions
factory. [...] The classmates were caught in a barrage of artillery fire. [...] The survivors of the
attack used the corpses of their friends as cover and, after the violence has passed, Fukasaku and
his surviving friends were given the task of disposing of the body parts

Hugh Bradner Essay
Hugh Bradner It was getting cold and repetitive doing many underwater dives into the frigid
water. Hugh had thought of ways to make his job quicker and easier or, if it came down to it,
perhaps something warmer. In his basement, he was working on suit that could hold warm water
inside. Separating the cold and warm water with the fabric. It was the neoprene fabric
recommended by the scientist and engineer of Scripps Institute. Today Hugh had finally finished
fabricating the suit in his basement, but it was very heavy and hasn t been in a test dive yet. He
and his co workers decided to create this wet suit to make their work easier, maybe go for a US
patent if possible. If that didn t work he could just sell the suit to the navy and such. In 1915, the

children to both Donald Bradner and Agnes Bradner (maiden name Mead). He and his brother
were raised in Findlay, Ohio, and had done most schooling there. After high school, Hugh decided

The Hiding Place By Corrie Ten Boom Analysis
In the Hiding Place written by Corrie Ten Boom, there is a disagreement on whether it is okay
or not to break God s Laws, even in the face of evil. Corrie s sister, while hiding Jews, was asked by
a Nazi if she had any Jews in her house, and she replied with an honest answer of yes. I think that
it is not okay to break God s Laws under any circumstance. Firstly, what are God s Laws? To me,
I think that lying to spare the life of the innocent is not breaking God s Laws. If a man asked you
where you were hiding your (innocent) kids, the majority of people, if not everyone, would not
give the man the correct answer, which is okay because that is protecting the life of innocent
people from death. The same goes for killing. If killing for self defense,

Miraculous Lost And Found Analysis
It is extremely important to tell your friends and family where you are going whenever you go
out hiking or doing other activities. Sharing where you are going and when you will arrive back
to a family member or friend can save your life. If you don t tell someone where you are going, it
could cost you your life! Just by telling someone it assures that if something bad happens to you
and you need help, you can get it.

Comparing Satire In The Hunger Games And Brave New World
A.Satirical Writing
Satire is the use of humor, irony, or ridicule to show foolishness in humans and expose people s
stupidity.
It becomes effective when it takes whatever it is criticizing to a point where the reader can change
their mind about issues by learning about it from a comedic perspective.
TV shows/ Movies that use satire

в—¦The Office
в—¦SNL
в—¦Seinfeld
в—¦Mean Girls
в—¦Napoleon Dynamite

The difference between satire and sarcasm is that satire is usually prepared and lengthy, while
sarcasm is off the cuff and short. Sarcasm is a rhetorical device and satire is a form of genre.
B. Dystopian Writing
It is writing about a society characterized by human misery.
The writing style can be inspired by ideas of the future from movies or tv shows.

many other books like those.

Interesting because she probably knows me the least of any of the people that were advisors for

my students) are the things most important to me. She believes that honesty and integrity are
values I believe in and stand for. That persevering and succeeding are things that I want to be

Toni Morrison Literary Devices
The postmodernist period was a period in literary period where writers used their voices to
express how they felt about what was going on in the world around them. During the postmodern
period there was many events going on that would cause an author to feel a certain way and feel
the need to express themselves. An event that could make an author feel the need to express
themselves during this period is the Civil Rights Movement. As a result of the Civil Rights
Movement, a color fence, or barrier of sorts between African Americans and white people, was
created based on opportunity and privilege. In an analysis of Toni Morrison s short stories
Sweetness , The Color Fetish , and The Work You Do, The Person You Are , one can see how the
postmodernist elements of ironyand allusions are demonstrated.
Morrison uses literary devices to her advantage when she is trying to explain her argument and
create an overall tone and feeling of her writing. The postmodern period was shaped by its use of
literary devices to prove a point and open our eyes to the world they were seeing, irony was just
one of the devices Morrison used specifically. Parody, irony, and narrative instability often
inform the tone. (CollegeBoard, Slide. 31). The authors found a way to express themselves
through their use of literary devices is their way of expressing their tone and using diction to
keep their audience interested. Also, when they use devices such as irony it can provide a
picture for the audience making them create a connection to the time period. Toni Morrison s
use of irony is evident throughout her works but one was eye catching was, It s not my fault. So
you can t blame me. (Sweetness, para. 1). This is a very ironic statement because Lula Ann s
mother is discriminating against her for how black she is based on the pure fact that her color is
going to make her an outcast in society. This was the beginning for Lula Ann because she wouldn t
have the same opportunity to pass as a white person and receive the same opportunity granted to
those of that skin color. Directly supporting the idea of the color barrier and the extent people
would go to just to try and receive the opportunities.
As a postmodern author, you cannot

Terrorism Stereotypes
Within the twenty first century, terrorism has sparked a global hysteria. In recent years the
group ISIS or the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria seems to be the cover of every newspaper and
TV broadcasts headlines and breaking news. Since June of 2014 the group has inspired at least 90
different terrorists attacks in 21 countries around the world, killing around 1,400 people and
critically injuring 2,000 others (ISIS attacks). This trend has pushed men and women from western
cultures to research stereotypes many Westerners hold against Middle Easterners. Some examples
of these stereotypes include: All Middle Easterners are Muslim. All Muslims are terrorists. Islamis a
violent religion. Muslims are all foreigners who can not adapt to Western culture. (Typical
Misperceptions and Stereotypes) This type of thinking is not only corrupt, but also damaging to

The extreme poles of this debate are represented in the later part of the novel by the two

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Outsourcing Essay
In the past decade the topic of outsourcing has become a heavily debated subject on if it is
ethically correct to outsourcing jobs to foreign countries. Outsourcing has become more and more
an option for many companies and not just an economic fad. The decision to outsource is a
difficult one for any company to make because there are many advantages and disadvantages to
consider. The decision to outsource affects many people, communities, and industries so if a
corporationdecides to outsource they must consider how it will affect human dignity, the common
good of the economy, and subsidiary.
A common definition of outsourcing is the takes part of their business and give it to another

To the opponents of outsourcing these statistics correctly state why outsourcing is a negative
solution to cost cutting and affects the dignity of the people who used to work these jobs. To
the people who have lost their jobs their dignity has been partially lost because they are now with
out a job that they have worked for most of their lives and now they can t provide for themselves
and their dependents. Also for the companies that have outsourced these jobs they don t provide
adequate services for their employees who s jobs are being outsourced. To the companies that
outsource should help their former employees find other jobs. This would be beneficial to the
worker and industry because the worker would loose a means of income and the industry would
regain workers. On the other side the supporters of outsourcing say that it helps the dignity of
workers who receive the jobs from the American corporations. An example of how outsourcing
helps dignity is if you have an industry like web design and you don t get a job over a cheaper
outsourced company you will have the extra motivation to improve your business or product

Summary Of The Devil And Miss Prym
Comparison between Hero and The Devil In Miss Prym The book The Devil And Miss Prym by
Paulo Coelho and the movie Hero starring Jet Li even though in different languages, share a
plethora of similarities. The Devil And Miss Prym tells the story of a young woman from the
village of Visco, Chantal Prym. Her life was very simple and seemed so innocent, until the Devil
walked into Visco and offered her something she so strongly felt she deserved a way out of
Visco. Of course there was a small price to pay, somebody had to die. After this day Chantal lived
with a devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other, constantly fighting to win her over. In the
end Gods light shined brighter and Chantal was able to make the right decisions, saving herself
and her village. The movie Hero by Jet Liwas about an orphaned, nameless, assassin who blamed
the King for the death of his family, and wanted revenge. He was able to get within 10 paces of
the restless King making him believe he killed the 3 assassins that had been after him. The king
soon realized that Nameless s story did not add up and he had to be an assassin. Even so, he chose
a different fate, because of what broken sword had taught to him. This was his highest ideal, and
with that knowledge the desire to killno longer existed, only peace, not revenge. When not blinded
by hate he was able to see the King s mission to unite all of China, and Spared, his life only after
passing on these wise words. Each main character dealt a with a Person Versus Self battle, both
stories had common archetypes with some playing the innocent and others the Sage, and both
stories share a philosophy that is utilitarianism.
In both of these stories the biggest battle of all was fought within the mind of the main character.
Chantal faced this throughout much of the story as she questioned whether should she steal the
gold? Should she tell the villagers of the message the devil shared with her? Should she help
Berta? It was a tough battle between her morals, her ego and what she felt she deserved after
living her whole life in Visco, even though she was different than everyone else there. In the end
she ended up realizing she wasn t so different from them after all. She was able

A tornado is a type of natural disaster. Tornadoes are violent and destructive windstorms that
happen on land(Tornado). A windstorm cannot be considered a tornado until it has touched the
ground. Tornadoes form when moist warm air is trapped under cold dry air. When the warm air is
pushed up, if the conditions are right, the air will start to spin and a tornado will form(12 Twisted
Tornado Facts).
Tornadoes can be very dangerous if you are caught in one, like the people of St. Louis in 1896, or
the people caught in the tornadoes of the tornado outbreak in 1974. In the past we didn t have
technology to help us predict tornadoes. Now we can predict them with 70% accuracy.
There was a tornado outbreak in 1947. Three hundred thirty people were killed, and two thousand
and five hundred were injured. One hundred forty eight tornadoes touched down in three states. In
all, there were tornadoes in 13

Justin s Journey To Becoming A Hero
Justin s journey to becoming a hero never would have come to fruition without meeting one
man, Jeff Duncan. Meeting with Mentors is an important aspect in any hero s journey and
moreover in Justin Wren s; meeting with mentors was what enabled him to escape from his
downward spiral and change his life for the better. Jeff Duncan, one of Justin s key mentors, was
a youth minister with a mission to get Justin s life back on track; Duncan did not shy away from
telling Justin what he needed to hear; Life is a battleground, not a playground. If you treat life
like a playground, you will lose the battle. Duncan. Justin had been kicked out of his gym and he

Sheet Mask Risk
Risk of Using a Sheet Mask Sheet masks have been super popular these days, and I do sometime
use them for fun. Yet, did you know that almost all sheet masks that are not required to be kept
in a fridge contain a lot of preserva tives? Imagine there s some food wrapped in wet tissue in a
zip lock bag. If it s kept at room temperature for a long time, it will spoil and mold will start to
grow, right? The same principle applies to sheet masks too. Sheet masks contain lots of great
natural ingredients and these ingredients are like foods. Natural ingredients attract microbes, so
preservatives are needed to keep the natural ingredients in the mask fresh. Sheet masks are fun and
very moisturizing, so you might be using them very frequently, but I highly suggest you limit how
much you use them. If you can, check the ingredient list first before you pur chase a sheet mask.
Natural ingredients are great, but if the mask has a lot of preservatives so you don t have to
refrigerate it, those chemical preservatives counteract the benefits of the natural in gredients, right?

Interview Panel On The Middle School Basketball Coaches Essay
Activity Description and Summary For this activity I was responsible for being part of our
interview panel to hire our middle school basketball coaches. We hired four coaches to help
mentor our fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade boys basketball teams. I was part of a three
person interview panel that featured our principal, athletic director, and me. This interview
process was the first time I ve been a part of hiring someone to feel a need at the school. The
topic we interviewed is something I was comfortable with because I have coached basketball the
past six years. I felt like I could find us the right fit and discussed the opportunity to be a part of
the hiring process because of the need of this internship activity. It s hard to find an interview
process during the year for teachers, but I believe coaching is a great substitute for teaching
because it is an extension of the classroom. Learning how to play a sport and how you conduct
yourself on the court can help you later in life. I wanted to find a candidate that could be a role
model for the students and help teach them life lessons through the game of basketball. We all
agreed we are looking for someone who will stress that basketball doesn t come above our education
and our families. Our school has struggled with student achievement and I think sports can help
motivate students to do better in the classroom. The class that best aligns with the hiring process is

The Death Of A Shoemaker And The Tea Party By Alfred F....
The American Revolution, today, is seen as a memorable event in history. It was a war against
Britain for the independence of the thirteen colonies that began in 1775. Before the American
Revolution began, there was a lot of conflict between the colonists and British authorities. The
British raised revenue by establishing Acts such as the Stamp Act of 1766. The colonists were
against it and tried revolting against Britain, leading to the Boston Massacre in 1770 of British
soldiers shoot colonists and killing a few men. The colonists also retaliated against the taxations by
dressing up as Indians and throwing tea into the ocean. Parliament began establishing acts known as
the intolerable acts, which led to the revolution. In The Shoemaker and the Tea Party by Alfred F.
Young, the author introduces and describes the life of a shoemaker, George Robert Twelves
Hewes, and the events he was a part of leading up to and after the American Revolution. He shows
the different meanings of the Revolution to people according to their perspective and view on
society. The Excerpt from Accounts of George Robert Twelves Hewes as Told to James Hawkes
by James Hawkes is a secondary source of what Hewes has told Hawkes about his memories of the
Boston Massacre. Michael D. Hattem, however, gives a more contemporary view on the American
Revolution in his article, The Historiography of the American Revolution. Though the course of

Atheistic evolution can be defined as a belief that everything was created without any supernatural

According to Exodus 20:11 : For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea,
and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day
and hallowed it. This verse is found in the middle part of the TРµn CommandmРµnts. God told
the Israelites that the reason they had to work six days and rest on the seventh day, is because
He created everything and rested on the seventh day. It is thus not realistic to think we have to
work for six long periods (millions of years) and rest for another long period. The Bible also states
that Jesus woke up three days after his crucifixion, which could not mean millions of years.
Meredith Kline, from Westminster Theological Seminary proposed that Genesis should be
interpreted metaphorically and not literally like most of us do. Old Earth creationists believe that
scientific evidence cannot be overlooked. Scientists use the method of radiometric aging from
meteorite material to determine the age of Earth. Fossils were found that are much older than a few
thousand years, for example dinosaurs.
PERSONAL VIEW
I personally believe in biblical evolution. Science has an explanation for how life is evolving but
does not have a valid explanation of how life initially began, that is where science and Christianity
are compatible. Christianity can

Mandatory Physical Education I
Current high school students are becoming fatter, slower, and less motivated than past students.
Many of these young people would prefer to be sitting passively in front of the television rather than
to do something physically active. Most high school students believe they do not have sufficient
time, opportunity or guidance to participate in physical activities. The ideal place in which students
would be able to find adequate time, opportunity and guidance are in the high schools themselves.
Politicians and educators responsible for the mandatory physical educationprogram at the junior
high schoollevels (grades eight to ten) should be applauded for this, but frowned upon for not
enforcing it on senior high school students (grades 11... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If these skills are not learned at a young age then it is the responsibility of high schools to teach
how to develop and apply these skills. Communication skills are essential in many aspects of life
because it may be the determining factor in a job interview or just in casual conversation with a
friend. If students are not taught social skills they often become self conscious and shy in social
contacts (Hartmann, 1982, p.22). If play skills are not developed early then they will are usually
not developed at all. This could be a factor which effects social behavior of teenagers and could
contribute to delinquency, social and family problems. Students with these problems usually lack
social skills which serve as being part of group contacts. Symptoms of this may be visible
nervousness and general lack of confidence during conversations with others. More importantly,
physical activity allows students the opportunity to relieve stress and enjoy themselves.
Physical education provides a combination of physical, intellectual and social challenges that other
subjects such as physics may not provide. Although the physical aspect is the most dominant, it is
not necessarily the most important. Sports such as basketball, volleyball and hockey help in
developing and refining gross motor skills and improve coordination. Muscular strength and
endurance are also enhanced, while flexibility is also improved through the participation of sports.
As you may already know, sport is

My Struggle For Independence Growing Up Of A First...
It is with great honour to share the tale of my struggle for independence growing up in a first
generation home. To begin, I shall introduce you to my family. Firstly, my parents had three
children together, all two years apart, me being the youngest. Both of my parents had high
school diplomas, however were unsuccessful in earning a well supporting, paying job. My mom
worked in an office as a clerk; although once she got pregnant she stayed at home to take care of
the young children. However, once our budget started to become tight, my mom had to start
working again. Unfortunately, my mom s old position was filled by an individual with post
secondary experience. Eventually, she obtained a position once a week as a cashier at a local...

The fights and arguments that my parents had would rub off on the children making life very
difficult. My parents would fight so constantly that they could no longer keep their marriage
happy causing them to file for a divorce. This was the hardest time in my life. When my parents
got the divorce I went from barely seeing my own father from working long hours to barely seeing
my own mother, who had to pick up full time work as a cashier. Eventually, my dad went to live
with his parents which resulting in me rarely seeing him. I knew I had to help out because my
mother was now single, taking care of three kids. My mom would work three jobs trying to pay for
lawyer fees for the divorce, pay bills, and take care of three young children. After seeing endless
days and nights of my mom crying over finances, I promised to her life was going to be different.
I developed a sense of determination to gain an education and pay for my own tuition. The struggle
of coming from a first generation family has definitely opened my eyes to the harsh reality of life
without post secondary experience. My ambition to help began when I was eight. The job only
paid eighty dollars a month, which I split with my brother, leaving me with only forty dollars.
Eventually, when I was fourteen, I got my first real paying job at Tim Horton s working weekends

Ethanol Fuel Essay
Well we all know that the energy system is very unstable because the total energy available on
the earth is limited, and man has exploited all the conventional technologies to fulfill his needs.
By the use of these conventional technologies, the world also has a disability, with problems such
as global warming. Consumption of energy by man increased gradually as his wants also
increase. The conventional energy resources mainly include fossil fuels, but research shows that
this fuel source will be depleted completely in approximately 20 25 years. This could cause major
setbacks around the world. As a result, we need an alternative source of fuel that could keep the
world running on its wheel. One possibility is ethanol. Chemically extract... Show more content on

Ethanol fuel is clear and colorless, and most importantly, it originates from plants (Ethanol Fact
Book). Since it originates from plants almost anyone can help produce it.
Ethanol fuel is typically just made from plant biomass by pretreatment, fermentation, and
distillation, which is very much the same way that beer and liquors are produced.
The sugar beets and sugar cane are very good examples of these feed stocks that contain the sugar.
Corn contains starch that can easily be converted into the sugar that is needed. Even most of the
trees and grasses have cellulose that can be easily turned into sugar and then used in the making of
ethanol (Mukherjee 1 para 2).The ethanol process always starts by grinding up the feedstock which
makes it more quickly and easily processed.
Ethanol fuel has many positive features as an alternative to the use of liquid fuel. First, ethanol is
renewable. A relatively safe fuel would show very few engine changes. Second, its energy density
is much higher than with some of the other alternative fuels, such as methanol, which means there
would be less volume required to go the same distance. With the third benefit of ethanol, it would
be able to improve much of the agricultural economies by providing farmers with stable market
crops, such as maize and sugar beets, and with

A Stolen Life Analysis
A Stolen Life begins with Jaycee Dugard introducing her family and summarizing her life at
home before the abduction. On June 10th, 1991, Jaycee left for school and was never to return
home. She was abducted from the side of the road by a man named Phillip. Phillip brought her
back to his home and explained what he had done and why. He did not go into much detail and
so Jaycee continued to ask questions, but did not receive answers. Phillip took Jaycee to his
bathroom where he proceeded to undress her. Jaycee cried and screamed, saying she had wanted
to go home, but Phillip ignored it. Phillip then moved her outside to a shed. This is her bedroom.
Sometimes Phillip would move Jaycee to the shed beside the one she normally resides in. This one

This connection is based on slavery, but is more specific to sex slaves. Jaycee was used as a sex

movie that jumps to mind right away is Taken. No, it is not based on a true story, but it shows
that it can happen anywhere, anytime and to anyone. People lose their lives to stuff like this and
that is why it is so important. The idea of sex slaves seems outdated, which is another aspect that
makes it so interesting. A person could dig deep into the past, look at what is happening now, or

In this method, the challenges from that emanated from the previous methods are solved through
the development of a quicker way that solves the same problems in a short duration. The goal of the
project was to obtain an easier methodology that can help in solving systems of eigen problems. In
particular the study aimed at obtaining anything that solve a collection of problems. The new
methodology adopted not only maintains the solution requirements but also introduces systematic
improvability. Through the new insights added to the new method which distinguishes it from the
previous methodologies, the required accuracy coupled with a fewer degree of freedom can be
achieved. Methodology and key results The methodology surrounds the solution of a quantum
mechanical Schrodinger equation for large complex systems such as insulating or metallic
materials at either ambient or extreme conditions. The wave equation is first modified in the form
of Kohn Sham equation. The solution is then derived from the assumption that there is a linear
combination of piecewise polynomials. The formulation of the Schrodinger problem within the
infinite crystal is then reduced using the boundary value problem within the confines of a unit finite
cell which is then extended to the crystal potential which consists of an array of atoms. The
formulation showed that for higher derivatives of the first order, there exist finite discontinuities at

The Importance Of Typology In Christianity
Christianity has been from the beginning a typological religion. Typology in Christian theology
and Biblical exegesis is a doctrine or theory concerning the relationship between the Old and New
Testaments . (Merriam Webster 868) Perhaps the single most important concept for understanding
early Christianity is typology. Typology is a form of study of literature identifying symbols
especially in the Bible. This system of groupings, usually called types, the members of which are
identified by postulating specified attributes that are mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive
groupings set up to aid demonstration or inquiry by establishing a limited relationship among
phenomena. Typology is interpreted throughout text in American literature such as William
Bradford s Plymouth Plantation, Jonathan Edward s Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God and
Thomas PaineCommon Sense. During the Enlightenment, the meaning of Protestant identity
became increasingly vague; typology took on the hazy significance of image and symbol; what
passed for the divine plan had lost its strict grounding sculpture; providence itself was shaken loose
from its religious frame work to became part of the belief in the human progress. The eighteenth
century clergy took advantage of this movement to shift the focus of figural authority, from Bible
history to the American experience. In effect, they substituted a regional for a biblical past,
sanctified the American present as a movement from promise to

An initial, reflexive point raised against our objection might be that killing a man is not the same
thing as polluting the air or polluting a river. However, both polluting the air and polluting a river
decrease at least the quality, and realistically both duration and quality of a person s life. It is a
slow method of murder, in this sense. However, we will focus more on the ethical rebuttals now.
Following on Rodin s lawyer homeowner example, one could point to the moral importance of the
benefits that accrue to society as a whole from the practice of managing assets so as to maximize
returns. Rodin continues, saying that such a practice helps to achieve the most economically
efficient distribution of resources, which benefits the society as a whole. As an example he
considers the case where maximization of returns by converting the building would increase
underlying capital value that may be used for further investment. This, in turn would generate
additional employment and tax revenue that may be used for health care, education, and other

The Diving Bell And The Butterfly
1.How do stroke survivors (or others with a chronic illness) and health care providers remain

I believe the way individuals who suffer from chronic illness or are recovering from incidences,
remain hopeful and realistic by utilizing their support system, understanding that progress cannot

2.Those with a devastating illness often have a need to tell their stories. How can others ensure
that they are able to tell their stories, and how does telling one s story impact the way patients are
treated?
Sometimes listening is the best way to help someone out. I believe that someone would be able
to make sure a person story was told by listening and possibly sharing the experience with others.
In the case of Jean Dominique, he utilized a book contract he had before the accident to express
his story. Through this book I could visual all the amazing traveling expeditions he went on.
When he talked about walking down the street of Lourdes and seeing all the people making their
way down this path hoping for a miracle, it struck me. He was able to discuss this event and
relate it to his current predicament. I feel like in other instances, a person can tell their stories
through vocal recordings, speaking with loved ones, creating illustrations, or even sharing
pictures. A person might take part in one of those activities and then ask or make note of their
wishes for those stories to be shared. My grandmother passed not too long ago, and I know that

Arguably, the most Machiavellian leader to ever exist would be Joseph Stalin. He abided by
three major Machiavellian methods that were stated in the Prince: the ends justifies the means,
crush any opposition, and displaying a false character. Stalin had a plan for Russia and did
everything in his power to achieve that plan. He wanted to transform Russia into a industrial
superpower, a military superpower, and a political superpower. To achieve his goals he committed
many horrible crimes against humanity. To be more specific, Stalin killed more than sixty million
people during his reign. He was a selfish cold blooded, heart less, and evil leader; human life was
nothing to him. What caused him to develop such evil traits? It all started... Show more content on

This strategy disposed Stalin of any political opposition, which helped him sustain his power.
Another major method that Stalin used to maintain his power was the use of propaganda to
portray himself as a benevolent father figure. While at the same time he was committing mass
murder. In Ukraine alone he killed ten million people in only two years! Many historians agree
that Stalin killed over sixty million people. Why did he kill so much people? This can be traced
back to Machiavelli s The Prince. As discussed before, The Prince teaches that a ruler should
have the fear of the people. Stalin slaughtered so many people to prevent any opposition to his
reign. He eliminated all the strong people, both the intellectual and physical; therefore the few
left would be too afraid and too weak, physically and mentally, to resist. Stalin did exactly what
Machiavelli stated in the Prince, which was also stated above, And here it has to be noted that
men must be either pampered or crushed, because they can get revenge fore small injuries but not
fore grievous ones. Stalin stated Death is the solution to all problems. No man no problem. ,
Gratitude is a sickness suffered by dogs. , and I trust no one, not even myself. As it can be clearly
seen, Joseph Stalin epitomises most of Machiavelli s beliefs that are stated in The Prince.
Therefore, Stalin can be consider Machiavelli s ideal prince. Finally, the last example of a past

A Thin Layer Of Fiction Are Looking Backward By Edward...
Throughout the years, literature has often been used as a means to spread social critique. When
it unfavorable or even dangerous to publicly speak out against the society of the time, the written
word can act as a shield. Adding a mask of fiction to these novels allows the author to get their
message out to the public who otherwise would not take the time for such issues. Two novels that
exemplify this social critique behind a thin layer of fiction are Looking Backward by Edward
Bellamy and Herland by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Both of these novels offer a critique to certain
aspects of American society during the time period, and do so in very similar ways. Each of these
novels, Looking Backward and Herland, depict utopian societies in order to fully illustrate the
issues that the authors see in their current society. Although the issues being addressed may be
different, the way Bellamy and Gilman discuss them contain numerous parallels. Ranging from the
cause of these utopian societies, to the mindset of the individuals living in them, both novels are
very similar in their approach to social critique of America. Even the differences between the two
are caused by common reasons. These parallels show the underlying format used by both Bellamy
and Gilman that allowed them to identify the flaws in American society and offer solutions to them.
One such parallel found within the novels is the cause of the utopian societies. Both Looking
Backward and Herland depict communities

Republican Party Dbq Essay
In the past, the Democratic party was known as the conservative, traditional party that fully
supported state government while the Republican party was a supporter of the federal government
control. The Republican party began as Lincoln s party which caught the attention and support of
the colored voters. In contrast, the Democratic partywas predominantly white during this time with
ideas to keep the rights of the state and the traditions of the South. Though these two parties have
opposing views, they began to clash and redirect their beliefs. Over time the two main political
parties have changed their platforms based on the issues of desegregation, racism in the South and
placement of federal government.

As the Democratic platform changed, the Republican party became very conservative and defended
state s rights due to its opposition to what was called big government (Rise of Rep. Party, p.
567). On the issue of race, the Republican party fully supported that the white race was superior
and the state had its own right to remain segregated. A key politician that represents this change
was the former Senator Jesse Helms. Religion was the driving force of his political views and he
was very vocal about his opinions. His campaign developed the concept of the New Right which
refers to the Christian church stepping into the realm of politics (Jesse Helms Doc). In the 1970s
and the 1980s, many organizations became available, such as the Christian Coalition and Moral
Majority, to support the church having political influence. Since the church became a part of
political campaigns, politicians became more reserved in their discrimination in a perception known
as Southern Strategy. This popular technique was used mainly by the Republican party that was
extremely traditional known as the Tea Party or far right . The first politician to introduce the idea
was President Nixon in 1960, through his speeches to the people. The Southern Strategy technique
is used when the speaker uses choices of words to convey a negative, underlying meaning without
blatantly stating their opinion (class discussion). As an example, Nixon expressed his support of
state s rights as a way of admitting that he supported the continuation of segregation in the

Depression, Suicide And Suicide In Hamlet By William...
Life can be a real pain. Several millions of people end their lives every year. In the article,
Depression, suicide, and deliberate self harm in adolescence, it informs, However...in 1990 the
suicide rate for males aged 15 19 years was 57 per million, (Harrington). Harrington also states that
men have a higher rate in suicidethan women. A character with the name of Hamlet, in the play
Hamlet, felt the same way as these boys and men. Once again, the amazing and wonderful
William Shakespeare is the creator of this tragedy. Hamlet was, and still is, one of Shakespeare s
greatest hits. In the play, Hamlet loses his father, for his uncle murders him. Hamlet also becomes
devastated due to his mother remarrying quickly to his uncle. His love life goes down the drain as
well, and Hamlet becomes depressed. In Hamlet, Hamlet speaks three soliloquies, in the first three
acts of the plays, each portraying their own message. In the play, act one, Hamlet wishes he was
dead, but cannot killhimself, which is the main message of this soliloquy. The reason to why he
cannot commit, is because of God. God does not think that it is right for anyone to kill his or her
self. Therefore, Hamlet thinks if he ends his life, that he will be sent straight to hell by God. He
also says that life is terrible and that nothing in life ever becomes better. Hamlet then says, the
garden is filled with weeds. Meaning, the world is not attended, it has several toxins. Hamlet at one
point, comes to the

maintain their goals: increasing profits and reducing risks. If any wrong decision is made, it may
cause a big effect and the company is easily taken over by competitors. To overcome this, financial
analysis is necessary for enterprises to obtain a clear view on their current financial situations. Then,

After officially being a member of World Trade Organization on 11st of July 2007, Vietnam is
becoming more attractive to many foreign investors. This brings challenges to domestic companies
because they have to compete with many foreign companies. In other words, their products
compete with other imported ones which are offered the same or lower price. The beer industry is
not the exception, and the market is considerably competitive. According to the amount of sale and
the market share in Vietnam, Saigon Beer Company is the leading beer producer. However, it is

Heart And Peripheral Vascular System
Heart and Peripheral Vascular System Chest pain is a symptom that can represent several different
diseases from different organ systems. It is essential to determine which system is responsible for
the pain and state the severity of the patient s condition (Longo et al., 2011). When considering
pain, there are eleven different criteria one must consider and evaluate. These include the duration
of the pain, onset, localization, irradiation, character, intensity, alleviating factors, aggravating
factors, triggering factors, regularity and accompanying signs (Longo et al., 2011). These are all
useful in determining the etiology of the pain and taking the appropriate therapeutic steps. The

The disease is usually associated with a viral infection before the pain occurs. The pain is sharp
and positional with a pleuritic nature (Longo et al., 2011). The pain is relieved by leaning
forward and worse when the patient is lying down. In addition, the pain is associated with a
pericardial rub. Another pain that is specific is that of aortic dissection. The condition is life
threatening and could be worsened by thrombolytics or anti aggregates, hence it is necessary to
detect. The pain is sharp, tearing, and severe and radiates to the back. The pain is pleuritic in
nature and associated with a loss of pulses (Longo et al., 2011). Non cardiovascular causes of
chest pain include musculoskeletal conditions such as costochondritis. The pain is usually localized
and the patient is able to pin point the exact location of the pain. The pain is increased by
inspiration and can be reproduced through palpitation of the chest wall. Gastrointestinal causes of
chest pain include GERD, which is due to an incompetent lower esophageal sphincter. The pain is
relieved by antacids and is exacerbated by the consumption of chocolates and fatty foods. There are
also pulmonary causes of chest pain and these include pulmonary embolism. Pulmonary embolism
is a sharp, sudden chest pain that is usually pleuritic. In addition, the pain is accompanied by

Persuasive Essay On How To Discipline A Child
As Plato once proclaimed, Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it
by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar
bent of the genius of each depicting that being harsh when disciplining a child is not necessary.
There are a variety of strategies to follow when punishing a child such as time out, the removal of a
prized possession, grounding the youngster, or spanking which depend on their matureness.
Although, every guardian has a different view toward how lenient each action should be, all parents
disciplinetheir children in aspiration to retain authority over them and teach them beneficial
characteristics.
Furthermore, divergent factors influence parents beliefs on which action to perform when instilling
a helpful lecture on their offspring. Many parents are controversial on the fact of how to take
disciplined actions upon their kids since environmental perspectives alter their views; as a matter of
fact, guardians shape the discipline by state regulations for child welfare, the influence of relatives,
and family dynamics in hopes of keeping authority over their children. A determining factor by
which parents prioritize on to decide how to discipline their child is through established state
regulations. Although corporal punishment is banned in approximately 49 countries, it is legal in
the United States. Disciplining a minor is permissible in all 50 states with the idea that it is

Religion Vs. Self-interest in Robinson Crusoe, by Daniel...
This paper is an attempt to examine the seeming opposition of religion vs. self interest with
respect to the character of Robinson Crusoe. I will venture to demonstrate that in the novel,
Defoe illustrates the contradictions with which Crusoe must contend as he strives to please God
while ensuring his own survival in the world. In part, I will endeavor to show that a distorted
sense of Puritanism as well as the existing colonial mindset exacerbated this opposition, and
resulted in what I propose to be Defoe s (possibly retroactive) imposition of a religious
justification for Crusoe s actions. Crusoe s journey in the canoe exemplifies the reality of his life in
that, although he longs to please and obey God, he must also contend... Show more content on

In this instance, therefore, it is shown that the ideal relationship with God contradicts his
instinct. In a way, the journey in the canoe in itself contradicts the idea of providence. The
purpose of the journey for Crusoe was to obtain more knowledge. Prior to this journey, however,
he states Thus I liv d mighty comfortably, my mind being entirely composed by resigning to the
will of God, and throwing myself wholly upon the disposal of his Providence. (108) Very shortly
after this declaration of his submission to Providence, when referring to his exploration of the
island on foot, Crusoe says that the discoveries I made in that little journey, made me very eager
to see other parts of the coast; and now I had a boat, I thought of nothing but sailing round the
island. (109) As illustrated by the canoe journey, Defoe shows us that Crusoe s longing for
knowledge, and for more than what God s Providence has provided him, almost costs him his
life. Crusoe s island, like the Garden of Eden, provides for all his needs. He has complete
dominion over this island and all of its inhabitants; yet, he still longs to know the other parts of
the island. Like Adam, after his search for knowledge, Crusoe sleeps on the hard cold ground
being quite spent with the Labor and Fatigue of the Voyage. (Note that before the fall of man,
labor was not a source of fatigue.) Here Defoe reminds us that God punishes man who is not

  • 2. The Gallup Poll The Gallup Poll When Gallup conducts a national opinion poll, the starting place is where all or most Americans are equally likely to be found. That place is in their home, which is the starting place for nearly all national polling. The actual target audiences, referred to as national adults , are aged 18 and over, living in telephone households within the United States. What I don t understand is that Gallup excludes college students living on campus, armed forces living on military bases, prisoners, hospitalized people, and anyone else who is living institutionalized. I think these exclusions are unfair. The article explains that the reasoning for not including the people who live in the places mentioned above is because of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another thing I found interesting in this article is that Gallup as well as other major organizations use sample sizes of 1,000 1,500 because these sample sizes are enough to give a good balance of accuracy opposed to much larger samples which would be very expensive. I hadn t considered expense when it comes to collecting a sample but apparently it can be very costly. For instance, if a sample size of 4,000 were selected each time there was a poll, the increase in accuracy would be very small, and would not justify the increase in cost. Now, I believe this to be true because I do think that the people behind things like the Gallop Poll are very smart statisticians and would not lie when it comes to what effects the sample size has on the accuracy of results. It makes absolute sense to me that specific ways of measuring the accuracy of samples have been done for many years and the processes and results have been analyzed thoroughly with each design. The poll of such a small number of people do not invalidate the results since for instance, as stated in the article, if the sample size was raised to 2,000 instead of 1,000, for a Gallup Poll there would be a gain of only 1% in terms of accuracy, and a 100% increase in terms of cost. I can understand that looking at results with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points is reasonable compared to spending a lot more money and only change the margin of error by ... • 3. Justice in Hamlet In the revenge play of Hamlet, the idea of poetic justice can be seen throughout the play various times. Shakespeare allows the reader to understand the mistakes of each character by killing them off in a justly manner. While seeking revenge, the main characters of the play earn their poetic ending, permitting Shakespeare to restore the karmic balance of the play. Claudius, Leartes, Polonius, are all killed poetically as a direct result of their actions, while Ophelia is used to reiterate the poetic justices in the other character because of the fact that she is not killed poetically. Claudius poisoned King Hamlet in order to become King himself. While he feels the guilt of killing his brother, Claudius doesn t want to give up the fruits ... Take you, as twere, some distant knowledge of him, As thus: I know his father and his friends, And, in part, him. Do you mark this, Reynaldo? (A.II.sc.i.ln 6 15). Polonius wants to know what is Laertes doing and has sent Reynaldo to do his spying for him. We can see how these actions and character traits will continue throughout the play and will lead to his poetic death. Even though his death is an accident, he gets what he deserves because he is where he shouldn t be: the King and Queen s chambers. Hamlet thinks he is Claudius and that is why he kills him. When Hamlet finds out that it is, in fact, Polonius he says, Thou wretched, rash, intruding fool, farewell. I took thee for thy better. Take thy fortune. Thou find st to be too busy is some danger. (A.III.sc.iv.ln 32 34). Polonius death is the most notable act of poetic justice in the play. Shakespeare uses this character s death to show the audience how snooping and meddling into other people s business is morally wrong and you will be punished for it accordingly. • 4. Use Of Narrative In The Princess Bride Taylor Lane Colyer Dr. Cossar Final Paper April 11, 2017 Genre and Narrative in The Princess Bride Genre and narrative appear in all forms of film; they cannot exist without each other. Films have some form of narrative that makes it unique for a specific genre. This is due to the way the story is told. Depending on how the story is told the audience will generate a response to the film they are watching. Narrative and genre are used to explain the story and plot of a film. Let s look at The Princess Bride for example; this is a genre film that uses narrative to tell a story. Through narrative the film is able to get a response out of the audience and the audience knows how to respond to this particular film because of past genre and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are also action/adventure elements with the fire swamp and the pit of despair. These different genres are what draw in such a diverse crowd. Genre theorist Rick Altman states how genre classifications are down to the pre reading and knowledge that audiences have of texts, before they watch a film they will know the story, characters, conventions, and mis en scene of the genre (Altman: 1989). Audience members know they are in for a combination of a lot of genres when they watch this film. The first ever film poster for the said Heroes, Giants, Villains, Wizards, True love. Not just your basic, average, everyday, ordinary, run of the mill, ho hum fairytale. The film brings in a very diverse crowd, because it contains so many genres. Not everybody likes story s about true love and not everybody likes story s about wizards and giants, so why not put them all together. I know several older men who love this film and I also know several young women my age who love this film just as much. The great thing about this film in particular is that the audience might think they have a pre determined answer as to what will happen in the end, but due to the multitude of genres it causes the audience to question themselves and form hypotheses. Film theorist Erlend Lavik tells us that, practically all films contain gaps that the audience must fill in. Seeking order and coherence, we instinctively make hypotheses about what is going to happen (and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Evaluation Of An Assessment Process Paper Assessment Process Paper During my practicum, my supervisor and I have discussed the steps I will need to take in order to meet my requirements. We have discussed completing an assessment, with what student and when it will occur. The student she picked was due for a re evaluation and I was required to give him the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children5th Edition (WISC V). In order to prepare for the assessment, I used the assessment tools at Brinckerhoff Elementary School, and practiced giving the test on my own in a private room. I prepared the record form, by marking where my starting points are located. During practice, I focused on the query items by going over what I would look for in each answer from the student. I also ensured I knew what each test required, to allow the process to be less robotic. The school psychologist and I discussed that she will be present during the first evaluations. The school psychologist informed me that she would do the assessment with me until she feels I am 100% comfortable and confident to complete the assessment. This way, if I have any issues, she will guide me without breaking the standardization of the test. When it came to picking the test, my practicum supervisor determined what assessment would be used. She picked the assessments that were suited best for the student s evaluation. At first, she had me review the student s record, and then determine what tests will be used to reevaluate the student. • 6. Battle Royale Analysis When Battle Royale first made its debut to the world, there were already concerns from the government and parents about its effects on teenagers. Despite the Motion Picture Code Committee restricting admission to anyone under sixteen, teenagers still camped out for two days to see the opening screening (G. Sparks and C. Sparks 269). The film was controversial for its extreme violence, but the reactions of the adults to try and control their children tellingly echoed the conflict within the film itself, something its director had purposefully highlighted. Kinji Fukasaku used props throughout his film to represent the challenging relationships between the older and younger generations of Japan. Based in real life encounters and the failings of the Japanese school system, Fukasaku brought the conflicts between the government, parents, teachers, and students to the screen in a darkly humorous bloodbath. Authority Figures versus Children To better understand Fukasaku s approach to his film, it will help to examine his own childhood. As a young teenager, Fukasaku grew up in a country plagued by the horrors of World War II: His class was drafted into the war effort, and they found themselves working in a munitions factory. [...] The classmates were caught in a barrage of artillery fire. [...] The survivors of the attack used the corpses of their friends as cover and, after the violence has passed, Fukasaku and his surviving friends were given the task of disposing of the body parts ... Corrie s sister, while hiding Jews, was asked by a Nazi if she had any Jews in her house, and she replied with an honest answer of yes. I think that it is not okay to break God s Laws under any circumstance. Firstly, what are God s Laws? To me, I think that lying to spare the life of the innocent is not breaking God s Laws. If a man asked you where you were hiding your (innocent) kids, the majority of people, if not everyone, would not give the man the correct answer, which is okay because that is protecting the life of innocent people from death. • 13. Toni Morrison Literary Devices The postmodernist period was a period in literary period where writers used their voices to express how they felt about what was going on in the world around them. During the postmodern period there was many events going on that would cause an author to feel a certain way and feel the need to express themselves. An event that could make an author feel the need to express themselves during this period is the Civil Rights Movement. As a result of the Civil Rights Movement, a color fence, or barrier of sorts between African Americans and white people, was created based on opportunity and privilege. In an analysis of Toni Morrison s short stories Sweetness , The Color Fetish , and The Work You Do, The Person You Are , one can see how the postmodernist elements of ironyand allusions are demonstrated. Morrison uses literary devices to her advantage when she is trying to explain her argument and create an overall tone and feeling of her writing. The postmodern period was shaped by its use of literary devices to prove a point and open our eyes to the world they were seeing, irony was just one of the devices Morrison used specifically. Parody, irony, and narrative instability often inform the tone. (CollegeBoard, Slide. 31). The authors found a way to express themselves through their use of literary devices is their way of expressing their tone and using diction to keep their audience interested. Also, when they use devices such as irony it can provide a picture for the audience making them create a connection to the time period. Toni Morrison s use of irony is evident throughout her works but one was eye catching was, It s not my fault. So you can t blame me. (Sweetness, para. 1). This is a very ironic statement because Lula Ann s mother is discriminating against her for how black she is based on the pure fact that her color is going to make her an outcast in society. This was the beginning for Lula Ann because she wouldn t have the same opportunity to pass as a white person and receive the same opportunity granted to those of that skin color. Directly supporting the idea of the color barrier and the extent people would go to just to try and receive the opportunities. As a postmodern author, you cannot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some examples of these stereotypes include: All Middle Easterners are Muslim. All Muslims are terrorists. Islamis a violent religion. Muslims are all foreigners who can not adapt to Western culture. In the end Gods light shined brighter and Chantal was able to make the right decisions, saving herself and her village. The movie Hero by Jet Liwas about an orphaned, nameless, assassin who blamed the King for the death of his family, and wanted revenge. He was able to get within 10 paces of the restless King making him believe he killed the 3 assassins that had been after him. The king soon realized that Nameless s story did not add up and he had to be an assassin. Even so, he chose a different fate, because of what broken sword had taught to him. This was his highest ideal, and with that knowledge the desire to killno longer existed, only peace, not revenge. When not blinded by hate he was able to see the King s mission to unite all of China, and Spared, his life only after passing on these wise words. Each main character dealt a with a Person Versus Self battle, both stories had common archetypes with some playing the innocent and others the Sage, and both stories share a philosophy that is utilitarianism. In both of these stories the biggest battle of all was fought within the mind of the main character. Chantal faced this throughout much of the story as she questioned whether should she steal the gold? Should she tell the villagers of the message the devil shared with her? Should she help Berta? It was a tough battle between her morals, her ego and what she felt she deserved after living her whole life in Visco, even though she was different than everyone else there. Tornadoes cause a lot of damage, because they have high wind speeds, kill and injure people, cover large amounts of land, they can mix with wild fire to cause firenadoes, and they are on the ground so they are close to people and structures. Tornadoes happen most often in the spring time, which is why it is called tornadoseason. Tornado Alley is where the most tornadoes happen annually. Tornado Alley includes Oklahoma, Kansas, the Texas Panhandle, Nebraska, Eastern South Dakota, and Eastern Colorado(12 Twisted Tornado Facts.). A tornado is a type of natural disaster. Tornadoes are violent and destructive windstorms that happen on land(Tornado). A windstorm cannot be considered a tornado until it has touched the ground. Tornadoes form when moist warm air is trapped under cold dry air. When the warm air is pushed up, if the conditions are right, the air will start to spin and a tornado will form(12 Twisted Tornado Facts). Tornadoes can be very dangerous if you are caught in one, like the people of St. Louis in 1896, or the people caught in the tornadoes of the tornado outbreak in 1974. In the past we didn t have technology to help us predict tornadoes. Now we can predict them with 70% accuracy. There was a tornado outbreak in 1947. If it s kept at room temperature for a long time, it will spoil and mold will start to grow, right? The same principle applies to sheet masks too. Sheet masks contain lots of great natural ingredients and these ingredients are like foods. Natural ingredients attract microbes, so preservatives are needed to keep the natural ingredients in the mask fresh. Interview Panel On The Middle School Basketball Coaches Essay Activity Description and Summary For this activity I was responsible for being part of our interview panel to hire our middle school basketball coaches. We hired four coaches to help mentor our fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade boys basketball teams. I was part of a three person interview panel that featured our principal, athletic director, and me. This interview process was the first time I ve been a part of hiring someone to feel a need at the school. The topic we interviewed is something I was comfortable with because I have coached basketball the past six years. I felt like I could find us the right fit and discussed the opportunity to be a part of the hiring process because of the need of this internship activity. It s hard to find an interview process during the year for teachers, but I believe coaching is a great substitute for teaching because it is an extension of the classroom. Learning how to play a sport and how you conduct yourself on the court can help you later in life. I wanted to find a candidate that could be a role model for the students and help teach them life lessons through the game of basketball. We all agreed we are looking for someone who will stress that basketball doesn t come above our education and our families. • 26. The Death Of A Shoemaker And The Tea Party By Alfred F.... The American Revolution, today, is seen as a memorable event in history. It was a war against Britain for the independence of the thirteen colonies that began in 1775. Before the American Revolution began, there was a lot of conflict between the colonists and British authorities. The British raised revenue by establishing Acts such as the Stamp Act of 1766. The colonists were against it and tried revolting against Britain, leading to the Boston Massacre in 1770 of British soldiers shoot colonists and killing a few men. The colonists also retaliated against the taxations by dressing up as Indians and throwing tea into the ocean. Parliament began establishing acts known as the intolerable acts, which led to the revolution. In The Shoemaker and the Tea Party by Alfred F. Young, the author introduces and describes the life of a shoemaker, George Robert Twelves Hewes, and the events he was a part of leading up to and after the American Revolution. He shows the different meanings of the Revolution to people according to their perspective and view on society. The Excerpt from Accounts of George Robert Twelves Hewes as Told to James Hawkes by James Hawkes is a secondary source of what Hewes has told Hawkes about his memories of the Boston Massacre. Michael D. Hattem, however, gives a more contemporary view on the American Revolution in his article, The Historiography of the American Revolution. God told the Israelites that the reason they had to work six days and rest on the seventh day, is because He created everything and rested on the seventh day. It is thus not realistic to think we have to work for six long periods (millions of years) and rest for another long period. The Bible also states that Jesus woke up three days after his crucifixion, which could not mean millions of years. Meredith Kline, from Westminster Theological Seminary proposed that Genesis should be interpreted metaphorically and not literally like most of us do. Old Earth creationists believe that scientific evidence cannot be overlooked. Scientists use the method of radiometric aging from meteorite material to determine the age of Earth. Fossils were found that are much older than a few thousand years, for example dinosaurs. PERSONAL VIEW I personally believe in biblical evolution. Many of these young people would prefer to be sitting passively in front of the television rather than to do something physically active. Most high school students believe they do not have sufficient time, opportunity or guidance to participate in physical activities. The ideal place in which students would be able to find adequate time, opportunity and guidance are in the high schools themselves. Politicians and educators responsible for the mandatory physical educationprogram at the junior high schoollevels (grades eight to ten) should be applauded for this, but frowned upon for not enforcing it on senior high school students (grades 11... Communication skills are essential in many aspects of life because it may be the determining factor in a job interview or just in casual conversation with a friend. If students are not taught social skills they often become self conscious and shy in social contacts (Hartmann, 1982, p.22). If play skills are not developed early then they will are usually not developed at all. This could be a factor which effects social behavior of teenagers and could contribute to delinquency, social and family problems. Students with these problems usually lack social skills which serve as being part of group contacts. Symptoms of this may be visible nervousness and general lack of confidence during conversations with others. More importantly, physical activity allows students the opportunity to relieve stress and enjoy themselves. Physical education provides a combination of physical, intellectual and social challenges that other subjects such as physics may not provide. Although the physical aspect is the most dominant, it is not necessarily the most important. By the use of these conventional technologies, the world also has a disability, with problems such as global warming. Consumption of energy by man increased gradually as his wants also increase. The conventional energy resources mainly include fossil fuels, but research shows that this fuel source will be depleted completely in approximately 20 25 years. This could cause major setbacks around the world. As a result, we need an alternative source of fuel that could keep the world running on its wheel. One possibility is ethanol. Chemically extract... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ethanol fuel is clear and colorless, and most importantly, it originates from plants (Ethanol Fact Book). Since it originates from plants almost anyone can help produce it. Ethanol fuel is typically just made from plant biomass by pretreatment, fermentation, and distillation, which is very much the same way that beer and liquors are produced. The sugar beets and sugar cane are very good examples of these feed stocks that contain the sugar. Corn contains starch that can easily be converted into the sugar that is needed. Even most of the trees and grasses have cellulose that can be easily turned into sugar and then used in the making of ethanol (Mukherjee 1 para 2).The ethanol process always starts by grinding up the feedstock which makes it more quickly and easily processed. Ethanol fuel has many positive features as an alternative to the use of liquid fuel. First, ethanol is renewable. A relatively safe fuel would show very few engine changes. Second, its energy density is much higher than with some of the other alternative fuels, such as methanol, which means there would be less volume required to go the same distance. With the third benefit of ethanol, it would be able to improve much of the agricultural economies by providing farmers with stable market crops, such as maize and sugar beets, and with ... Typology in Christian theology and Biblical exegesis is a doctrine or theory concerning the relationship between the Old and New Testaments . (Merriam Webster 868) Perhaps the single most important concept for understanding early Christianity is typology. Typology is a form of study of literature identifying symbols especially in the Bible. This system of groupings, usually called types, the members of which are identified by postulating specified attributes that are mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive groupings set up to aid demonstration or inquiry by establishing a limited relationship among phenomena. Typology is interpreted throughout text in American literature such as William Bradford s Plymouth Plantation, Jonathan Edward s Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God and Thomas PaineCommon Sense. During the Enlightenment, the meaning of Protestant identity became increasingly vague; typology took on the hazy significance of image and symbol; what passed for the divine plan had lost its strict grounding sculpture; providence itself was shaken loose from its religious frame work to became part of the belief in the human progress. The eighteenth century clergy took advantage of this movement to shift the focus of figural authority, from Bible history to the American experience. The client wants to see that you believe in their recovery just as much as they do. 2.Those with a devastating illness often have a need to tell their stories. How can others ensure that they are able to tell their stories, and how does telling one s story impact the way patients are treated? Sometimes listening is the best way to help someone out. I believe that someone would be able to make sure a person story was told by listening and possibly sharing the experience with others. In the case of Jean Dominique, he utilized a book contract he had before the accident to express his story. Through this book I could visual all the amazing traveling expeditions he went on. When he talked about walking down the street of Lourdes and seeing all the people making their way down this path hoping for a miracle, it struck me. He was able to discuss this event and relate it to his current predicament. I feel like in other instances, a person can tell their stories through vocal recordings, speaking with loved ones, creating illustrations, or even sharing pictures. A person might take part in one of those activities and then ask or make note of their wishes for those stories to be shared. My grandmother passed not too long ago, and I know that whenever I get a change I try to talk about her life and even try to learn more about the experiences she had. When I learn of new things about her, I am always dying to share the information with others because I want others to know and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Examples of Machiavellian Leaders Arguably, the most Machiavellian leader to ever exist would be Joseph Stalin. He abided by three major Machiavellian methods that were stated in the Prince: the ends justifies the means, crush any opposition, and displaying a false character. Stalin had a plan for Russia and did everything in his power to achieve that plan. He wanted to transform Russia into a industrial superpower, a military superpower, and a political superpower. To achieve his goals he committed many horrible crimes against humanity. To be more specific, Stalin killed more than sixty million people during his reign. He was a selfish cold blooded, heart less, and evil leader; human life was nothing to him. What caused him to develop such evil traits? It all started... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This strategy disposed Stalin of any political opposition, which helped him sustain his power. Another major method that Stalin used to maintain his power was the use of propaganda to portray himself as a benevolent father figure. While at the same time he was committing mass murder. In Ukraine alone he killed ten million people in only two years! Many historians agree that Stalin killed over sixty million people. Why did he kill so much people? This can be traced back to Machiavelli s The Prince. As discussed before, The Prince teaches that a ruler should have the fear of the people. Stalin slaughtered so many people to prevent any opposition to his reign. He eliminated all the strong people, both the intellectual and physical; therefore the few left would be too afraid and too weak, physically and mentally, to resist. Stalin did exactly what Machiavelli stated in the Prince, which was also stated above, And here it has to be noted that men must be either pampered or crushed, because they can get revenge fore small injuries but not fore grievous ones. Stalin stated Death is the solution to all problems. No man no problem. , Gratitude is a sickness suffered by dogs. , and I trust no one, not even myself. As it can be clearly seen, Joseph Stalin epitomises most of Machiavelli s beliefs that are stated in The Prince. Therefore, Stalin can be consider Machiavelli s ideal prince. Finally, the last example of a past ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. A Thin Layer Of Fiction Are Looking Backward By Edward... Throughout the years, literature has often been used as a means to spread social critique. When it unfavorable or even dangerous to publicly speak out against the society of the time, the written word can act as a shield. Adding a mask of fiction to these novels allows the author to get their message out to the public who otherwise would not take the time for such issues. Two novels that exemplify this social critique behind a thin layer of fiction are Looking Backward by Edward Bellamy and Herland by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Both of these novels offer a critique to certain aspects of American society during the time period, and do so in very similar ways. Each of these novels, Looking Backward and Herland, depict utopian societies in order to fully illustrate the issues that the authors see in their current society. Although the issues being addressed may be different, the way Bellamy and Gilman discuss them contain numerous parallels. Ranging from the cause of these utopian societies, to the mindset of the individuals living in them, both novels are very similar in their approach to social critique of America. Even the differences between the two are caused by common reasons. These parallels show the underlying format used by both Bellamy and Gilman that allowed them to identify the flaws in American society and offer solutions to them. One such parallel found within the novels is the cause of the utopian societies. Both Looking Backward and Herland depict communities ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the Democratic platform changed, the Republican party became very conservative and defended state s rights due to its opposition to what was called big government (Rise of Rep. Party, p. 567). On the issue of race, the Republican party fully supported that the white race was superior and the state had its own right to remain segregated. A key politician that represents this change was the former Senator Jesse Helms. Religion was the driving force of his political views and he was very vocal about his opinions. His campaign developed the concept of the New Right which refers to the Christian church stepping into the realm of politics (Jesse Helms Doc). In the 1970s and the 1980s, many organizations became available, such as the Christian Coalition and Moral Majority, to support the church having political influence. Since the church became a part of political campaigns, politicians became more reserved in their discrimination in a perception known as Southern Strategy. This popular technique was used mainly by the Republican party that was extremely traditional known as the Tea Party or far right . The first politician to introduce the idea was President Nixon in 1960, through his speeches to the people. The Southern Strategy technique is used when the speaker uses choices of words to convey a negative, underlying meaning without blatantly stating their opinion (class discussion). As an example, Nixon expressed his support of state s rights as a way of admitting that he supported the continuation of segregation in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Persuasive Essay On How To Discipline A Child As Plato once proclaimed, Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each depicting that being harsh when disciplining a child is not necessary. There are a variety of strategies to follow when punishing a child such as time out, the removal of a prized possession, grounding the youngster, or spanking which depend on their matureness. Although, every guardian has a different view toward how lenient each action should be, all parents disciplinetheir children in aspiration to retain authority over them and teach them beneficial characteristics. Furthermore, divergent factors influence parents beliefs on which action to perform when instilling a helpful lecture on their offspring. Many parents are controversial on the fact of how to take disciplined actions upon their kids since environmental perspectives alter their views; as a matter of fact, guardians shape the discipline by state regulations for child welfare, the influence of relatives, and family dynamics in hopes of keeping authority over their children. A determining factor by which parents prioritize on to decide how to discipline their child is through established state regulations. • 50. Religion Vs. Self-interest in Robinson Crusoe, by Daniel... This paper is an attempt to examine the seeming opposition of religion vs. self interest with respect to the character of Robinson Crusoe. I will venture to demonstrate that in the novel, Defoe illustrates the contradictions with which Crusoe must contend as he strives to please God while ensuring his own survival in the world. In part, I will endeavor to show that a distorted sense of Puritanism as well as the existing colonial mindset exacerbated this opposition, and resulted in what I propose to be Defoe s (possibly retroactive) imposition of a religious justification for Crusoe s actions. Crusoe s journey in the canoe exemplifies the reality of his life in that, although he longs to please and obey God, he must also contend... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this instance, therefore, it is shown that the ideal relationship with God contradicts his instinct. In a way, the journey in the canoe in itself contradicts the idea of providence. The purpose of the journey for Crusoe was to obtain more knowledge. Prior to this journey, however, he states Thus I liv d mighty comfortably, my mind being entirely composed by resigning to the will of God, and throwing myself wholly upon the disposal of his Providence. (108) Very shortly after this declaration of his submission to Providence, when referring to his exploration of the island on foot, Crusoe says that the discoveries I made in that little journey, made me very eager to see other parts of the coast; and now I had a boat, I thought of nothing but sailing round the island. (109) As illustrated by the canoe journey, Defoe shows us that Crusoe s longing for knowledge, and for more than what God s Providence has provided him, almost costs him his life. Crusoe s island, like the Garden of Eden, provides for all his needs. He has complete dominion over this island and all of its inhabitants; yet, he still longs to know the other parts of the island. Like Adam, after his search for knowledge, Crusoe sleeps on the hard cold ground being quite spent with the Labor and Fatigue of the Voyage.
