Should Plato Have Lumped All Sophists
Plato was not praising Socrates as the only real philosopher, but rather, he was attempting to elevate
the identity of his master, ironically by means of a rhetorical strategy of dissociation. Plato derides all
sophists, and does not distinguish between a neo sophist and a sophist. He makes a distinction
between a sophist and a philosopher; sophists were deceivers who only seek to influence others by the
use of rhetoric and does not offer true knowledge, and the philosopher was a lover of wisdom who
sought truth (Plato Sophist, 233c; Plato Phaedrus, 278d). I argue that Plato was wrong in making this
distinction. Plato should not have lumped all sophists into the neo sophistic basket. He should have
recognised that not all sophists during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Plato never does this directly, as it would destroy his argument for disposing of the sophists. But when
paying close attention to Plato s dialogues, you can see a much lighter tone is being taken towards
some sophistic thinkers, something close to admiration (Plato Protagoras, 337a 337d; 318d 319b).
These thinkers include Protagoras and Prodicus, both of which were classed as sophists . I refrain
from labeling them neo sophists, as I do think what they were doing was a kind of philosophy.
Protagoras focused on a variety of topics, including truth, and relativism (Plato, Protagoras 319a;
Plato, Theaetetus, 152a). While Prodicus was concerned with linguistics and ethical theory
(Xenophon, Memorabilia 2. 1.21). A definitive answer is difficult to achieve, as the evidence of what
remains today is largely based off writing from both Plato and Aristotle, both of whom were bias
towards sophists. Nevertheless, they are definitely portrayed with much greater respect by Plato then
the other neo sophists who he derides. Whether or not Plato secretly considered them real
philosophers is difficult to say, but I do not think Plato regarded them as petty and hungry for power

Role Of Gods In The Odyssey
The Odyssey details Odysseus arduous return to his homeland. Ten years have passed since the end of
the Trojan war and Odysseus, the most cursed man alive , has been missing and presumed dead by
many. (10.79). Throughout the novel, gods play a significant role in the fate of Odysseus and other
characters. The extent of the gods role though is not unqualified, contrary to Telemachus suggestion
that, Zeus is to blame./He deals to each and every/ laborer on this earth whatever doom he pleases
(1.401 403). While Zeus does have this power, his description of how humans meet their fate is more
accurately depicted throughout the novel. As he aptly points out, from us alone, the say, come all their
miseries, yes,/ but they themselves, with their own reckless ways,/ compound their pain beyond their
proper share (1.38 52). While the gods do doom certain mortals, many of these mortals exacerbate
their ill fate by making rash decisions and ignoring the gods warnings. The gods are also not always
disrupting mortals lives; they often aid mortals in need. In fact, mortals who effectively court the favor
of the gods often benefit greatly. While the gods powers are unquestionable, no one god s power is
insurmountable. Gods can be outsmarted and their wrath escaped. The Odyssey, in congruence with
Zeus statement, ultimately, portrays human freedom as existent, but limited.
While mortals do not unjustly complain about their fates, they fail to acknowledge that they are also
responsible for their ill fate, as mortals themselves, possess a sizable degree of control. There is little
doubt that Odysseus and his crew are unlucky, but had it not been for their brash decisions they would
have reached Ithaca much sooner. After Odysseus cunningly escapes the Cyclops, Polyphemos, his
pride gets the best of him, as taunts the Polyphemos proclaiming, if any man on the face of the earth
should ask you/ who blinded you, shamed you so say Odysseus/ raider of cities, he gouged out your
eye (9.559 561). Odysseus arrogance furthers his misfortune, since Polyphemos is Poseidon s son.
Polyphemos proceeds to ask his father to never allow Odysseus to return and if Odysseus returns
home that it be well over due and without his crew;

Shc 32 Health And Social Care Essay
Assessment task SHC 32 Engage in personal development in health, social care or children s and
young people s settings
Task links to learning outcome 1, assessment criteria 1.1 and 1.2
Personal development and reflective practice is an integral part of working with children and or young
people. To support you in reviewing the need for personal development in relation to your work role
produce the following:
* Write a description of the duties and responsibilities of your own work role (1.1)
* Prepare an explanation of the expectations about your own work role as expressed in relevant
standards (1.2)
(Standards may include: codes of practice, regulations, minimum standards or national occupational
standards) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Having codes of practise within the care industry is important, due to the industry entitling you to
work with and amongst vulnerable individuals in society, ensuring that there is a certain standard of
work along with a certain standard of moral and ethical behaviour.
Within a job description the main points usually tell you what tasks and responsibilities you are
required to do, it does not state how these requirements need to be carried out. In order to find this out,
you would refer to the relevant standards that are in place that allow you to work. Relevant standards,
like codes of practice will differ depending on the country in which you work. Each UK country has
National Minimal Standards that are used by inspectors to ensure that services are being delivered at
an acceptable level. National Occupational Standards are also set across the whole of the UK to ensure
that an individual effectively carries out their work within the care industry. The National
Occupational Standards form the basis to all qualifications in the care sector (Pearsons College amp;
FE College, n.d.).
The two main pieces of legislation that provide the framework for ensuring children s personal
development and health and safety in a setting is the Childcare Act 2006 as well as the Health and

A First Time Expatriates Experience in a Joint Venture in...
Introduction
In the reading A first time expatriates experience in a joint venture in China we have come to
understand the nature and structure of the joint venture between the U.S.A. and China and the role that
James Randolf played to strengthen and maintain the international partnership.
Controls Inc. was a subsidiary of the parent company Filtration Inc. and so was shielded from any
outside competition. When Controls Inc. was given the charter to pursue its own business they
realized the need for being cost effective as a result of which they started an operation in Singapore
with the name Controls Asia Pacific with the prime objective to have a presence in the region and to
study and evaluate any possibility of a joint ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along with building relationships, James structured guidelines along with an informal approach to
improve overall feedback for effectiveness. The workers were influenced by every action of James
authority and would follow him dutifully, due to his humanistic and understanding approach. Although
the system seemed to be rigid, the workers, who were expected to be less open to new ideas, were in
fact willing to adapt to new ideas and learn something from James and his methodologies. James
possessed cross cultural understanding of the Chinese people that seemed to be more focused and
analytical rather than biased on preconceptions. His cultural dissimilarity and approach allowed for
him to be accepted and followed, which eventually paved an entrance for organizational reengineering
in the right direction
Management, Leadership and Decision making styles.
The management structure which was negotiated by the Controls Asia Pacific team conceded the
position of MD to the Chinese partner in exchange for the right to appoint a COB for the first three of
the five years. However, Filtrations Inc. always wanted to retain the power of instating the MD. This
not only put James in an ambiguous situation but also indicated a serious flaw in the way Controls
Asia Pacific perceived the organizational standards and vision of

cheeses when considering the purchase and consumption of these foods. This guide will also analyze

These are the processed cheeses most commonly found in grocery stores and markets in the United
States. These cheeses do not require refrigeration and have a very long shelf life, sometimes going
several weeks or a few months without spoiling. American cheese and reduced fat cheeses are
common examples of processed, pre packed pasteurized cheeses. Typically processed cheeses are
required to have artificial flavoring added to them because during the pasteurization process, the milk
s natural flavors are removed, which reduces the natural flavor of the cheese itself. These processed,
pre packaged and pasteurized cheeses are also commonly referred to as club cheeses or cold cut
cheeses.
Pasteurized cheeses are the most common types of cheeses found in markets and grocery stores and
they are the only type of cheeses considered safe and approved for regular consumption by the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration. Pasteurized cheeses are also good for many recipes, whether just as an
appetizer or paired with crackers, fruit, and wine.

Long Beach Plumbing Issues
Common Plumbing Mistakes When you have a plumbing issue, it is best to call a Long Beach
plumbing company instead of trying to deal with it yourself. There are a number of mistakes that
people make that warrant calling a plumbing company in Long Beach. Many people treat their
garbage disposals like a trashcan. While your garbage disposal does make things more convenient, it
should not be treated like a garbage disposal. Potato peels, grease and watermelon rinds are examples
of some things that you should not put in your garbage disposal. If there is something wrong with your
garbage disposal, then you should call a plumber in Long Beach. Many people also have to call Long
Beach plumbers because they flush items down the toilet that should

Essay about We Need Stronger Child Support Laws
The amount of child support cases in arrears would decline if a few things were changed, hopefully
providing incentives to pay child support on time and regularly. There are also harsher consequences
that could be carried out to prevent future mistakes. There are things being done, but is it enough? As
it stands the noncustodial parent can face loss of visitation, probation, and even jail time for none
payment of child support. By not enforcing court ordered child support and making examples out of
those who are not in compliance, we are sending out a message that child support is more of an option
than a legal obligation. Think about the ones who are really suffering here, the children involved.
There are many low income families ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the noncustodial parent is already behind on payments they will investigate as much as they can
based on the information you have given to them. However, they will not represent you in court if that
is the next step to be taken. You may also apply for legal aid and if your circumstances are right and a
court appointed lawyer may be provided. However, this does not mean that you will get a great lawyer
or one that is best for your case. The noncustodial parent may get a more experienced lawyer. There
are other steps that can be taken at this point which include; hiring a privet investigator, hiring an
agency dedicated to acquiring child support, or hiring an attorney to file contempt charges against the
noncustodial parent. None of these options are inexpensive and if the custodial parent is already not
receiving child support they may have run out of options and money needed to go back to court to file
charges.Even if contempt charges are filed, the noncustodial parent must still be arrested so their last
known address must be known. If the noncustodial parent has moved or cannot be found for them the
best that can be hoped for is that they unfortunately get arrested for something else in the mean time or
hope that they decide to start making payments.
Many noncustodial parents think that they are paying too much money for child support and that the
courts were unfair to them. In general the courts will base

Ginsberg s Moloch Analysis
Moloch represents authority, those who tell us how we can and cannot live. Ginsberg proclaims this
when he calls Moloch the heavy judger of men, meaning he has the power to give and take, a
reference to capitalism, which is a system where the means of production and distribution are owned
by private corporations. Ginsberg was strongly against capitalism. He grew up with a communist
mother, and found the government having complete control of the country detrimental to society.
Subsequently, he did not like capitalism because, once again, much of the power was out of the hands
of the people. He reiterates this when he says Moloch is the cross bone soulless jailhouse and
Congress of sorrows! which seems to say Moloch is the power of the government or the private
organizations and its control over the people. He is, on one hand, calling Congress an actual place of
sorrows and on the other, saying Congress focuses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Ginsberg uses his Moloch to symbolize much more than sacrifice and false gods; he
represents a total ruin of society. Evil governments, economic hardships, and rejection are all a part of
Ginsberg s Moloch and he wants society to see the evil around them but he wants them to see it on
their own. Moloch whom I abandon . Ginsberg himself is almost like a god, always watching and
leaving subtle hints, but never interfering with the natural order of things. If people are to see the real
society, they will see it on their own. However, Ginsberg could also just be relying on the knowledge
of his readers to know who Moloch is or simply know that he is bad. It seems more likely that
Ginsberg is hiding his criticism of society behind this deity in order to spark an interest in this Moloch
figure and one day have the people protest for acceptance, free will, and a helping

Home Depot Economic Indicators Essay
Home Depot Economic Indicators
Two of the economic indicators, housing starts and interest rates have a trickle down effect on Home
Depot s business. The current outlook for both of these indicators is still , unfortunately, bleak. We are
firm believers in Edward Learner s thesis that Housing is the Business Cycle . It is still considered the
source through which we view the economic cycle. According to a survey by PAA Research, the
housing market colors every investment idea evaluated and consistently provides the prism to
strategically forecast our economic indicators.
The significance of the housing market and it s importance to this economy cannot be overstated.

If we look at Home Depot s business segments and the statistics on new home sales, we can see where
the challenge is. According to the Commerce Department, sales of new homes grew by 6.6% in the
month, setting the annual pace for 2010 to 307,000 total units sold. Although, there was an increase in
September, this annual pace is the worst on new home sales since 1963, even when mortgage rates are
at an all time low. This signifies why there would be disappointment from Home Depot. It is quite
obvious that they will continue to struggle, at least through the 4th quarter of this year due to an
industry dependent upon a strong real estate market.
However, there is an upside. Most of us would think that the U.S. housing market is devoid of positive
trends, which according to the National Association of Realtors, is not the case.
The feedback from a national survey shows:
Realtors are generally optimistic about the prospects over the next 6 months. 42% of Realtors expect
improvement, while 30% expect it to remain the same. New home sales and inventory have reached
trough levels and can only go higher from there. This implies that residential construction will
transition from a drag on GDP growth to a modest benefit for the foreseeable future. The housing tax
credit worked. Based on the sales data, a number of buyers took advantage of the credit. When real
estate assets are in the hands of new buyers, it should be viewed

A Study On Forensic Forensics
explain that these challenges are the result of frequent updates to the operating system and the
constant attempts to communicate externally. Accordingly, it is imperative that forensic examiners
employ proper evidence handling of mobile devices to prevent contamination and/or data destruction.
For this reason, forensic examiners should employ a mobile forensic process that will provide the
necessary procedures to follow for conducting a forensically sound investigation. As a result, the
process model for mobile forensics will encompass four phases. Ayers et al. (2014) describes these
phases as:

Reporting, this provides a detailed report describing procedures, observations, and results. For this
reason, it is imperative that the forensic examiner maintains all documentation, notes, images, and
steps taken in a clear and concise manner that can be repeated by another forensic examiner.
Strengths and Weaknesses
There are a few advantages of the forensic methodology regarding mobile forensics. One of the
advantages is the ability to search a digital device that 64% of Americans utilize on a daily basis. As a
result, this media permits forensic examiners to acquire, analyze, and examine texts, emails, phone
calls, images, and internet history. Also, since current smartphones are heavily employed for GPS,
location tracking is also possible. Additionally, there have been advances in forensic tools that are
exclusive for mobile forensics that were developed by companies like Cellebrite and MSAB (XRY
tool).
However, even though there are specialized forensic tools available, they are not completely reliable.
Gogolin (2013) attributes this to the misperception that a mobile forensic tool can be reliably
employed for every device, when in fact it may not support as many devices as advertised.
Additionally, Raghav and Saxena (2009) describe several challenges that examiners may encounter,
for example:
is the mobile device functional or has it been damaged (water or physical damage);

Elements Of Characters In Prisoners, Sicario And Arrival
Dramas are films with realistic plots, settings, characters, and situations. Dramas tend to be driven and
somewhat dependent on powerful actor portrayals and good direction, rather than CGI effects or
action. Dramas tend to include characters that are complex and well developed throughout their films.
But perhaps one of the most key elements in dramas are the themes of intense and real struggle
centered around the human condition. These themes can be expressed overtly through the plot and
story or symbolically through several different film elements. Denis Villeneuve is a director whose all
but mastered the art of creating dramatic films, consistently making films that become exemplary
models for what drama films should evoke in an audience. His three films Prisoners, Sicario, and
Arrival do not fall outside of this classification. Each of these are unique in their own respect, yet
Denis Villeneuve uses several different thematic elements, particularly color, in all three to craft
complex symbols and commentary that reside deep in the recesses of each film s narrative.
The first film, Prisoners, is about two regular, All American families whose lives are flipped upside
down when the daughters of each family goes missing. Most of the film centers around the
investigation and how members of each family cope with their situation. The basic plot of Prisoners
isn t very original nor unique to be quite honest, however it s unique use of lighting, cinematography

Professional Mourners are equal to status, power and position . As it says in the story they are

gambles the house away and dies, Heathcliff becomes the master, belittling Hareton?a destined
gentleman of the area to a lowly, uneducated, friendless servant, often beating him as Hindley did
himself. Besides beating Hindley s son, Heathcliff also strikes young Cathy in a fit of rage: with this
liberated hand, and, pulling her on his knee, administered with the other a shower of terrific slaps on
both sides of the head (258), and when Nelly attempts to stop him, Heathcliff silences her by a touch
on the chest (258). Like their surroundings, the occupants of Wuthering Heights are strong, rugged,
and stormy.

Boeing History
William Boeing bought his first plane and taught himself how to fly in the early 1900 s and as soon as
he left the ground crashed his seaplane and nearly destroyed it. Once he destroyed the plane he started
to realize that because it would take so long for him to get the necessary parts to make his plane
airworthy again he could build his own custom plane in a shorter amount of time. The fascination with
seaplanes directed him toward building his own seaplane with his friend G.C. Westervelt in their
hanger on Lake Union in Seattle. World War I might have been the reason why Boeing exists today
because once the U.S. Navy received word of the B W Seaplane they ordered 50 of them and Boeing
Airline Company was born. The vision of Boeing was to not just stop at seaplanes and once World
War II started they saw the demand for fighter planes and began to make the P 12. This made Boeing
the leading manufactuer of fighters over the next decade. In 1928 Boeing designed the Boeing 80
which was their first plane with one intention, to fly 12 passengers commercially as a airline. The

Bach Religious Life
When examining the theme of Music and Religious Life, the question that often comes up is, what
makes this music religious? Is it the choice of the musician or is it out of the artist s control all
together? It s hard to say with confidence that the answer is just one or the other because it s easy to
find exceptions for each. When looking at artists that have been able to have a career as a musician
and as a religious musician like Johann Sebastian Bach and Isaac Slade from The Fray, it appears it s
not about what the artist s preference is, but the preference of the people and environment around
them.
Johann Sebastian Bach found himself in a variety of environments. Living in an era when the
patronage system was present, his compositions were written with the intent of appeasing the patrons.
Bach s early career as a church organist, not surprisingly, was a time when he was heavily regarded as
a Christian musician. The setting of the church and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He wrote songs devoted to his faith early in his career. Inside the church his songs were popular, but
when Slade would share his songs with his friends outside of church he got a different reaction. Slade
says none of my friends outside the church understood any of my songs; we had a different set of
vocabulary. That was the moment in which he realized that, as he puts it, God called them to the
secular market. Slade realized his religious songs weren t in demand outside the church and much like
the old patronage style system of Bach s time, he changed his music to accommodate the preference of
the listeners. He formed the band, The Fray, in 2003 with some old classmates of his and started
recording secular songs which have been widely successful (Friedman). The path Isaac Slade has
taken in his career as a musician has been heavily dependent on the environment of which he has been

Class, After reading both articles I am going to be giving my thoughts on Androgynous Man by Noel
Perrin, pg. 242 243. Are the sentences long, short, poetic, or matter of fact? In comparison to Once
more to the lake , I found the sentences in Androgynous Man to be short and easy for me to
understand. The sentences in Androgynous Man , while easier to understand were not nearly as
descriptive or informative as sentences in Once more to the lake . Is the author successful in creating
an interesting or moving piece about the memory? In my opinion, Perrin, was not successful at
bringing the memories of his story to life. While the story itself was well written, in my opinion it did
not paint a vivid picture of how Perrin recalled his childhood.

From: Group #2 (Jordan King, Kelsey Darnell, Xiaomeng Liao)
Date: 04/04/2013
Subject: ACCTG 642: Case 08 6, The Rump Organization
Statement of Relevant Facts
The Rump Organization is a commercial real estate company that purchases and constructs
commercial property. On the basis of the corporate restructuring plan, Rump s CEO, Ronald Rump,
and Rump s board of directors on December 27, 2005 approve a plan to involuntarily terminate 100 of
the company s employees. The plan provides for each terminated employee to receive a lump sum
cash payment equal to one month s salary only if the employee voluntarily signs a waiver of any right

A possible solution is that a liability is not recognized at all. A second alternative solution is that the
liability would be initially recognized at communication date, December 31, 2005, then adjusted
cumulatively over the future service period, December 31, 2005 through the termination date of
January 31, 2006. A third alternative solution is that the liability is recognized on the communication
date of December 31, 2005. We assume that management would prefer no recognition of a liability;
however, if a liability must be recognized management would prefer the liability to be recognized on
December 31, 2005, then adjusted as terminated employees sign or do not sign the waivers over the
service period. Management would not want to recognize part of the liability in January because this
would negatively affect their balance sheet and their current ratio during the first quarter, which could,
in turn, affect the company s ability to satisfy contracts or receive loans. In contrast, recognizing the
liability at the end of the year would have little to no material impact on the company s ratios or
financials since it would be taking into account the entire year versus a few months. The auditors main
concern will be to make certain that the liability is recognized and reported in the proper fiscal year as
this liability could be quite large and materially affect financial statements.

mortality rate of any mental disorder, the mortality rates reported on those who suffer from eating
disorders can vary considerably between studies and sources. Part of the reason why there is a large
variance in the reported number of deaths caused by eating disorders is because those who suffer from
an eating disorder may ultimately die of heart failure, organ failure, malnutrition or suicide.

Life Is Fine By Langston Hughes
I think the poem Life is Fine is a lyric poem. The poem Life is Fine is about someone who went down
to a river to think. But he can t think so he jumps in the river. And he starts to sink. Then he takes the
elevator up 16 floors and thinks about his baby. So he thinks about jumping. But he will be dogged if
they see him if they see him die. So in this poem I think he is telling us that everybody has problems
including Hughes. But in this poem he shows us that we should still push through and get through it.
In this poem Langston Hughes uses symbolism and imagery. Langston Hughes uses symbolism in this
quote I went down to the river, I set down on the bank. I tried to think but couldn t, So I jumped in and
sank. . I feel that he might be saying that the river is life. And he might feel that he Langston Hughes
is sinking in life. By putting symbolism in his poem it disguises what he really means or says what he
feels like it looks like. I think Langston Hughes uses imagery in the quote But it was...cold in that
water! It was cold! . I feel lik he uses imagery in that quote because he puts the image in our minds of
cold water or someone touching the water and the water is cold. By him using imagery it makes us ...

Ottoman s Journey To World War 1
Midterm Ryan Grady The Ottoman entrance to World War One was path that was unavoidable. The
decline of the once great empire had placed the Ottomans in a precarious state, that the only last hope
was war. Certain factors were key in this process, the loss of territories in the late 19th and early 20th
centuries, a burgeoning alliance with the Germans beginning with Kaiser Wilhelm II, and the Empire s
location at the confluence of three continents. The Ottoman journey to war was not only an
inevitability, but also a last ditch effort to restore the former glory of the Empire. With the decline of
the Empire, the Ottomans saw an opportunity to reclaim lost lands. During the late 19th century, the

Stetooden (2009) reveals that it is possibly Eric Carle s childhood that has provoked the sensational
books illustrated and written by him. Carle s family left New York after living there six years to return
to his parents home of Germany. It was in Germany where Carle s father was drafted into the German
Army and then not seen for eight years as he became a prisoner in Russia. The years of war and time
without his father took toil on the author/illustrator. A frail father eventually returned, and Carle had to
rely on his early memories of his father to encourage him and even give him artistic inspiration. Carle
recalls one such memory that has inspired many of his books involving nature as he related that he and
his father used to go for long walks in the countryside together, and he would peel back tree bark to

does not end with books; his other interests lie in painting, sculpture, printmaking, as well as furniture
and building design (Beneduce, p. 428). Eric Carle s illustrations and books remain and continue to be

The Behavior Of Firms Under Oligopoly Market
This essay will attempt to discuss on some models used to understand the behaviour of firms under
oligopoly market, where problems of uncertainty exists and whether collusion between these firms
will eliminates it. For simplicity, these models will be explained under the assumption that there are
two firms (duopoly), namely firm A and firm B and both firms produce identical product.
Oligopoly is a type of imperfect competitive market, which consists of few large firms. These firms
control the market and sell similar product, which are usually differentiated by the brand (e.g. Nike
and Adidas). The most important features of oligopoly is the interdependence between firms, which
means that the act of a firm will inevitably affect the other firm. However, a firm cannot be sure of
how exactly the other firm will respond to their decision, therefore strategic uncertainty may be used
as a tactic in oligopoly.
There are many models discussing on the interaction between firms such as game theory, an analysis
of strategic interaction and also conjectural variation, which will be the underlying discussion for the
first part of the essay. Conjectural variation is an assumption that a firm expects a reaction from other
firms in the market based on their movement. This act of conjecturing implies the uncertainty in the
market. Conjectural variation is the rate of change of rival s output with respect to own output
(McMillan, 2013).

Premature Birth
What are Preterm Labor and Premature Birth?
A normal pregnancy lasts about 40 weeks after the first day of the last period. Going into labor before
37 weeks of pregnancy is known as preterm labor and Babies born before 37 weeks of pregnancy are
called premature babies.
Signs of premature labour
About one baby in every 13 will be born prematurely. Premature delivery is the birth before the 37th
week of pregnancy. In most cases labour starts by itself, and the signs will usually be the same as
labour that starts at full term. The signs could be:
contractions sudden breaking of the waters a show (when the plug of mucus that has sealed the cervix
during pregnancy comes away and out of the vagina)

Complications in the baby
If your baby is born too soon, there is a good chance that his or her lungs will be underdeveloped. If
so, he or she will need to be put onto a ventilator to help with breathing.Your baby may also have
trouble maintaining a normal body temperature and will need to be kept warm. If your baby is born
too early to suck and swallow, he or she will have to be fed through a needle in a vein or through a
tube passed through the nose and throat into the stomach.
What causes Preterm Labor?
Medical science doesn t completely understand why some women go into labor or break their water
early. In some cases, an infection may be involved while in others, it may be an abnormally short
cervix or a combination of factors. In about half of all cases, there is no known cause. The main risk of
preterm labor is if the mother having had a preterm birth before.
Other risk factors include:
Carrying more than one baby
Abnormally shaped uterus or an abnormal cervix
Age younger than 17 or older than 35

The Role Of Astrology In Greek Mythology
Astronomy is defined as the study of non Earthly bodies and phenomena such as the sun, moon, stars,
and planets. Human behavior is defined as the range of physical and emotional behaviors that humans
engage in; biologically, socially, intellectually, etc. and are influenced by culture, attitudes, emotions,
values, ethics, authority, rapport, persuasion, coercion and/or genetics. When combined, the two topics
merge into a third one called astrology: the study of celestial entities and how they apply to the
characteristics and affairs of humankind. Astrology has been influences human behavior on daily

Essay on Reflexivity
Reflexivity
When an ethnographer examines a group of people, she is influenced by her position and
understanding of her own culture. Before an ethnographer even begins her research, her opinion is
effecting the process of selecting a topic. For instance, Anthropology s most commonly known
researcher Bronslow Malinowsky wrote the Argonauts of the Western Pacific. He did not choose to
study a culture similar to his own because of the interest he had in the exotic . His preferences told
him to pick a more remote group of people, the Trobriand Islanders. There has been a history of
choosing the opposite of the Anthropologists own culture. Reflexivity is the use of one s experiences

Resaldo realizes that by including personal events he may come out sounding less professional.
However, I feel it is more professional [especially to this discipline] to be honest about how one
concludes regarding an aspect of culture. His acknowledgment of the natural emotions that surround
rituals gives the reader a more comprehensive and complete account of events. To leave out such
emotions from ethnographies is to . . . remove potentially key variables from their explanations (p.12).
I feel it is worth the use of personal events to base explanations on even when the risk looked down
upon is prevalent. Ruth Behar supports this idea in The Vulnerable Observer: Anthropology that
Breaks Your Heart.
Behar addresses the critics of reflexive anthropology who think that because personal experience
cannot always be believed or seen as factual (Behar: p.169). Scott Michaelson and David Johnson are
her two targets in the speech she has included in her writings. She argues that though Michaelson and
Johnson impose their critique of Resaldo s vulnerability and discussing his feelings regarding his wife
s death, they never make themselves vulnerable (p.169). The vulnerable state that Resaldo put himself
in by telling the way in which his wife died and how it effected him does not

Poverty In George Jurgis s The Jungle
In the book The Jungle there are many different themes, moods, and political views. One of the major
themes in this book is that most people are poor. They don t have a whole lot they squeeze by on
taxes, and some don t even have homes. Most don t even have enough money to eat every day. Then
to go along with being in poverty their moods are just depressed, sad, and gloomy. In the book things
would start turning for the better, then something tragic would happen. In the book there is a lot
politics going on the author tried to push socialism, but by showing what went on in the meat industry,
it made people put in health codes. In the book The Jungle a majority of the people that live in

didn t get him where he wanted to be so he had to take odd jobs to get extra income, by doing this he
became dishonest. The name of the book basically explains what life is in packingtown. Either you eat
or be eaten, you do what you have to do to better yourself. Most people don t survive in this town
because of harsh working conditions, low pay, high debt, but one major theme that summarizes the
whole town except the greedy bosses are poor no one really has a whole lot. People barely scrape by
on taxes and debt. They have a home, but it isn t a at least a decent home. Jugis s house had really bad
floors there was a sewage system right under them. Then to go along with that during the winter the
heater wasn t very big so they had to wear coats. The family was always depressed, so Jurgis would

Compare And Contrast Hyde And Frankenstein
Dantès is also shown to be similar to Frankenstein and Jekyll, in that the three are unable to escape
from their creations. Dantès and Jekyll are trapped more so than Frankenstein, as they are the same
person as their creations, whereas Frankenstein is trapped by being unable to bring himself to create a
female creature due to the effect it may have on society. Frankenstein s identity is called into question
here, as he becomes almost defined, in the Creature s eyes, as being unable to keep his word. The
Creature s words show a parallel between himself and Hyde and Frankenstein and Jekyll: You are my
creator, but I am your master obey!
The verb obey causes the creator s identities to be reduced to that of slaves: Frankenstein is forced ...

When Dantès is imprisoned, he loses his name, Hyde is known solely by his appearance, and the
Creature is never given a name. This contrasts with the socially accepted Monte Cristo, Henry Jekyll
and Victor Frankenstein. Their names allow them to be accepted by, not forgotten about, shunned, or
left incapable of joining, society. Unlike Hyde and Dantès, the Creature is never named. He is
constantly referred to as a creature and a miserable fiend. This mainly comes through Frankenstein s
point of view, which suggests that the Creature s monstrousness stems from Frankenstein s
perceptions of him and the way he is originally presented to the reader. Had the novel been written
from his point of view, it can be suggested that the Creature would not be viewed as such a monster by
society, and readers would have more sympathy for him. The absence causes him to be dehumanised
in a similar way to Dantès, who is renamed Number 34. Hyde, however, is named, allowing Jekyll s
view of his alter ego being natural and human to be more accepted by society. Hyde s naturalness can
said to be due to his evilness as he represents the original sin found inside all of us. Dantès and the
Creature are shunned by society when they are without a name because they are distanced from
society. Whilst Dantès distance is literal as he has been taken away from Marseille, the Creature s
distance remains figurative he follows Frankenstein and is in fact very close to society. His distance
stems from his hideousness and the absence of a name to introduce himself by. He is left to forge his
own identity which comes as an incredibly hard task. Modern readers have felt sympathy for the
Creature in his struggle to be accepted: Shelley s use of his point of view in the novel aids this,
however at the time of writing, readers generally viewed the Creature as a

  • 2. Should Plato Have Lumped All Sophists Plato was not praising Socrates as the only real philosopher, but rather, he was attempting to elevate the identity of his master, ironically by means of a rhetorical strategy of dissociation. Plato derides all sophists, and does not distinguish between a neo sophist and a sophist. He makes a distinction between a sophist and a philosopher; sophists were deceivers who only seek to influence others by the use of rhetoric and does not offer true knowledge, and the philosopher was a lover of wisdom who sought truth (Plato Sophist, 233c; Plato Phaedrus, 278d). I argue that Plato was wrong in making this distinction. Plato should not have lumped all sophists into the neo sophistic basket. He should have recognised that not all sophists during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Plato never does this directly, as it would destroy his argument for disposing of the sophists. But when paying close attention to Plato s dialogues, you can see a much lighter tone is being taken towards some sophistic thinkers, something close to admiration (Plato Protagoras, 337a 337d; 318d 319b). These thinkers include Protagoras and Prodicus, both of which were classed as sophists . I refrain from labeling them neo sophists, as I do think what they were doing was a kind of philosophy. Protagoras focused on a variety of topics, including truth, and relativism (Plato, Protagoras 319a; Plato, Theaetetus, 152a). While Prodicus was concerned with linguistics and ethical theory (Xenophon, Memorabilia 2. 1.21). A definitive answer is difficult to achieve, as the evidence of what remains today is largely based off writing from both Plato and Aristotle, both of whom were bias towards sophists. Nevertheless, they are definitely portrayed with much greater respect by Plato then the other neo sophists who he derides. Whether or not Plato secretly considered them real philosophers is difficult to say, but I do not think Plato regarded them as petty and hungry for power like the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Role Of Gods In The Odyssey The Odyssey details Odysseus arduous return to his homeland. Ten years have passed since the end of the Trojan war and Odysseus, the most cursed man alive , has been missing and presumed dead by many. (10.79). Throughout the novel, gods play a significant role in the fate of Odysseus and other characters. The extent of the gods role though is not unqualified, contrary to Telemachus suggestion that, Zeus is to blame./He deals to each and every/ laborer on this earth whatever doom he pleases (1.401 403). While Zeus does have this power, his description of how humans meet their fate is more accurately depicted throughout the novel. As he aptly points out, from us alone, the say, come all their miseries, yes,/ but they themselves, with their own reckless ways,/ compound their pain beyond their proper share (1.38 52). While the gods do doom certain mortals, many of these mortals exacerbate their ill fate by making rash decisions and ignoring the gods warnings. The gods are also not always disrupting mortals lives; they often aid mortals in need. In fact, mortals who effectively court the favor of the gods often benefit greatly. While the gods powers are unquestionable, no one god s power is insurmountable. Gods can be outsmarted and their wrath escaped. The Odyssey, in congruence with Zeus statement, ultimately, portrays human freedom as existent, but limited. While mortals do not unjustly complain about their fates, they fail to acknowledge that they are also responsible for their ill fate, as mortals themselves, possess a sizable degree of control. There is little doubt that Odysseus and his crew are unlucky, but had it not been for their brash decisions they would have reached Ithaca much sooner. After Odysseus cunningly escapes the Cyclops, Polyphemos, his pride gets the best of him, as taunts the Polyphemos proclaiming, if any man on the face of the earth should ask you/ who blinded you, shamed you so say Odysseus/ raider of cities, he gouged out your eye (9.559 561). Odysseus arrogance furthers his misfortune, since Polyphemos is Poseidon s son. Polyphemos proceeds to ask his father to never allow Odysseus to return and if Odysseus returns home that it be well over due and without his crew; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To support you in reviewing the need for personal development in relation to your work role produce the following: * Write a description of the duties and responsibilities of your own work role (1.1) * Prepare an explanation of the expectations about your own work role as expressed in relevant standards (1.2) (Standards may include: codes of practice, regulations, minimum standards or national occupational standards) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Having codes of practise within the care industry is important, due to the industry entitling you to work with and amongst vulnerable individuals in society, ensuring that there is a certain standard of work along with a certain standard of moral and ethical behaviour. Within a job description the main points usually tell you what tasks and responsibilities you are required to do, it does not state how these requirements need to be carried out. In order to find this out, you would refer to the relevant standards that are in place that allow you to work. Relevant standards, like codes of practice will differ depending on the country in which you work. Each UK country has National Minimal Standards that are used by inspectors to ensure that services are being delivered at an acceptable level. National Occupational Standards are also set across the whole of the UK to ensure that an individual effectively carries out their work within the care industry. The National Occupational Standards form the basis to all qualifications in the care sector (Pearsons College amp; FE College, n.d.). The two main pieces of legislation that provide the framework for ensuring children s personal development and health and safety in a setting is the Childcare Act 2006 as well as the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. Introduction In the reading A first time expatriates experience in a joint venture in China we have come to understand the nature and structure of the joint venture between the U.S.A. and China and the role that James Randolf played to strengthen and maintain the international partnership. Controls Inc. was a subsidiary of the parent company Filtration Inc. and so was shielded from any outside competition. The workers were influenced by every action of James authority and would follow him dutifully, due to his humanistic and understanding approach. Although the system seemed to be rigid, the workers, who were expected to be less open to new ideas, were in fact willing to adapt to new ideas and learn something from James and his methodologies. James possessed cross cultural understanding of the Chinese people that seemed to be more focused and analytical rather than biased on preconceptions. His cultural dissimilarity and approach allowed for him to be accepted and followed, which eventually paved an entrance for organizational reengineering in the right direction Management, Leadership and Decision making styles. The management structure which was negotiated by the Controls Asia Pacific team conceded the position of MD to the Chinese partner in exchange for the right to appoint a COB for the first three of the five years. These are the processed cheeses most commonly found in grocery stores and markets in the United States. These cheeses do not require refrigeration and have a very long shelf life, sometimes going several weeks or a few months without spoiling. American cheese and reduced fat cheeses are common examples of processed, pre packed pasteurized cheeses. Typically processed cheeses are required to have artificial flavoring added to them because during the pasteurization process, the milk s natural flavors are removed, which reduces the natural flavor of the cheese itself. These processed, pre packaged and pasteurized cheeses are also commonly referred to as club cheeses or cold cut cheeses. Pasteurized cheeses are the most common types of cheeses found in markets and grocery stores and they are the only type of cheeses considered safe and approved for regular consumption by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. There are also harsher consequences that could be carried out to prevent future mistakes. There are things being done, but is it enough? As it stands the noncustodial parent can face loss of visitation, probation, and even jail time for none payment of child support. By not enforcing court ordered child support and making examples out of those who are not in compliance, we are sending out a message that child support is more of an option than a legal obligation. However, they will not represent you in court if that is the next step to be taken. You may also apply for legal aid and if your circumstances are right and a court appointed lawyer may be provided. However, this does not mean that you will get a great lawyer or one that is best for your case. The noncustodial parent may get a more experienced lawyer. There are other steps that can be taken at this point which include; hiring a privet investigator, hiring an agency dedicated to acquiring child support, or hiring an attorney to file contempt charges against the noncustodial parent. None of these options are inexpensive and if the custodial parent is already not receiving child support they may have run out of options and money needed to go back to court to file charges.Even if contempt charges are filed, the noncustodial parent must still be arrested so their last known address must be known. If the noncustodial parent has moved or cannot be found for them the best that can be hoped for is that they unfortunately get arrested for something else in the mean time or hope that they decide to start making payments. Term Paper Christiaan Talbo Jan Whitmer Cliff Zyskowski December 9, 2015 Christiaan Talbo Psych Tech 155 Term Paper For this research paper my client will be known as H.C. This particular client has suffered from multiple diagnoses during his time at Sonoma Developmental Center (SDC). My client has lived at SDC since 1947, at the age of 13 years old. H.C. willingly came to SDC when his family could no longer cope with his behaviors. He liked to be independent and was an active worker when he worked at his job sites. H.C. had a bundle of past achievements that he enjoyed mentioning to his aides by pointing at pictures. At a frail age H.C. could do his activities of daily living, but needs assistance from time to time. Physically H.C. was a short man with balding white hair and had poor eyesight so he wore glasses. His walking gait was failing and his feet would shift against the floor, so he had a walker that he could use. He was socially withdrawn and would only communicate when he felt that his needs were pressed. He had trouble finding words to communicate what he wanted to say and would like to do things on his own rather than relying on staff. He also lived by his set schedule, so anytime there was an appointment set for him he needed to be reminded before his day began. Being at SDC would mean that there is an onset disease that would keep an individual being treated there from living individually or in a community setting. Most of the time it would be ... Ginsberg was strongly against capitalism. He grew up with a communist mother, and found the government having complete control of the country detrimental to society. Subsequently, he did not like capitalism because, once again, much of the power was out of the hands of the people. He reiterates this when he says Moloch is the cross bone soulless jailhouse and Congress of sorrows! which seems to say Moloch is the power of the government or the private organizations and its control over the people. Moloch whom I abandon . Ginsberg himself is almost like a god, always watching and leaving subtle hints, but never interfering with the natural order of things. If people are to see the real society, they will see it on their own. However, Ginsberg could also just be relying on the knowledge of his readers to know who Moloch is or simply know that he is bad. It seems more likely that Ginsberg is hiding his criticism of society behind this deity in order to spark an interest in this Moloch figure and one day have the people protest for acceptance, free will, and a helping ... According to the Commerce Department, sales of new homes grew by 6.6% in the month, setting the annual pace for 2010 to 307,000 total units sold. Although, there was an increase in September, this annual pace is the worst on new home sales since 1963, even when mortgage rates are at an all time low. This signifies why there would be disappointment from Home Depot. It is quite obvious that they will continue to struggle, at least through the 4th quarter of this year due to an industry dependent upon a strong real estate market. However, there is an upside. Most of us would think that the U.S. housing market is devoid of positive trends, which according to the National Association of Realtors, is not the case. The feedback from a national survey shows: Realtors are generally optimistic about the prospects over the next 6 months. 42% of Realtors expect improvement, while 30% expect it to remain the same. New home sales and inventory have reached trough levels and can only go higher from there. Accordingly, it is imperative that forensic examiners employ proper evidence handling of mobile devices to prevent contamination and/or data destruction. For this reason, forensic examiners should employ a mobile forensic process that will provide the necessary procedures to follow for conducting a forensically sound investigation. Strengths and Weaknesses There are a few advantages of the forensic methodology regarding mobile forensics. One of the advantages is the ability to search a digital device that 64% of Americans utilize on a daily basis. As a result, this media permits forensic examiners to acquire, analyze, and examine texts, emails, phone calls, images, and internet history. Also, since current smartphones are heavily employed for GPS, location tracking is also possible. Additionally, there have been advances in forensic tools that are exclusive for mobile forensics that were developed by companies like Cellebrite and MSAB (XRY tool). However, even though there are specialized forensic tools available, they are not completely reliable. Gogolin (2013) attributes this to the misperception that a mobile forensic tool can be reliably employed for every device, when in fact it may not support as many devices as advertised. Dramas tend to be driven and somewhat dependent on powerful actor portrayals and good direction, rather than CGI effects or action. Dramas tend to include characters that are complex and well developed throughout their films. But perhaps one of the most key elements in dramas are the themes of intense and real struggle centered around the human condition. Is it the choice of the musician or is it out of the artist s control all together? It s hard to say with confidence that the answer is just one or the other because it s easy to find exceptions for each. When looking at artists that have been able to have a career as a musician and as a religious musician like Johann Sebastian Bach and Isaac Slade from The Fray, it appears it s not about what the artist s preference is, but the preference of the people and environment around them. Johann Sebastian Bach found himself in a variety of environments. Living in an era when the patronage system was present, his compositions were written with the intent of appeasing the patrons. • 30. Life Is Fine By Langston Hughes I think the poem Life is Fine is a lyric poem. The poem Life is Fine is about someone who went down to a river to think. But he can t think so he jumps in the river. And he starts to sink. Then he takes the elevator up 16 floors and thinks about his baby. So he thinks about jumping. But he will be dogged if they see him if they see him die. So in this poem I think he is telling us that everybody has problems including Hughes. But in this poem he shows us that we should still push through and get through it. In this poem Langston Hughes uses symbolism and imagery. Langston Hughes uses symbolism in this quote I went down to the river, I set down on the bank. I tried to think but couldn t, So I jumped in and sank. . I feel that he might be saying that the river is life. And he might feel that he Langston Hughes is sinking in life. By putting symbolism in his poem it disguises what he really means or says what he feels like it looks like. I think Langston Hughes uses imagery in the quote But it was...cold in that water! It was cold! . I feel lik he uses imagery in that quote because he puts the image in our minds of cold water or someone touching the water and the water is cold. By him using imagery it makes us ... • 31. Ottoman s Journey To World War 1 Midterm Ryan Grady The Ottoman entrance to World War One was path that was unavoidable. The decline of the once great empire had placed the Ottomans in a precarious state, that the only last hope was war. Certain factors were key in this process, the loss of territories in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a burgeoning alliance with the Germans beginning with Kaiser Wilhelm II, and the Empire s location at the confluence of three continents. The Ottoman journey to war was not only an inevitability, but also a last ditch effort to restore the former glory of the Empire. With the decline of the Empire, the Ottomans saw an opportunity to reclaim lost lands. During the late 19th century, the Empire had experienced great loses that began ... British attempts, lead under Nelson, to take over the Dardanelles would ultimately be repulsed. Beginning with a failed naval assault, the British landed at Gallipoli. The Best Traits and Limitations of Eric Carle Essay It was a recent trip to the Kohl s Department Store in Springhill, TN that declared what children s author would be the best fit for writing a paper that addresses the best traits and limitations of such a person. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stetooden (2009) reveals that it is possibly Eric Carle s childhood that has provoked the sensational books illustrated and written by him. Carle s family left New York after living there six years to return to his parents home of Germany. It was in Germany where Carle s father was drafted into the German Army and then not seen for eight years as he became a prisoner in Russia. The years of war and time without his father took toil on the author/illustrator. A frail father eventually returned, and Carle had to rely on his early memories of his father to encourage him and even give him artistic inspiration. Carle recalls one such memory that has inspired many of his books involving nature as he related that he and his father used to go for long walks in the countryside together, and he would peel back tree bark to show me what was underneath it, lift rocks to reveal the insects. As a result, I have an abiding love and affection for small insignificant animals ( Eric ). With his creativity and inner child, Carle who is now in his eighties has illustrated over 70 books, and he also wrote many of these books. His creativity does not end with books; his other interests lie in painting, sculpture, printmaking, as well as furniture and building design (Beneduce, p. 428). Eric Carle s illustrations and books remain and continue to be famous not only in the United States but worldwide because they are creative and full of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Behavior Of Firms Under Oligopoly Market This essay will attempt to discuss on some models used to understand the behaviour of firms under oligopoly market, where problems of uncertainty exists and whether collusion between these firms will eliminates it. For simplicity, these models will be explained under the assumption that there are two firms (duopoly), namely firm A and firm B and both firms produce identical product. Oligopoly is a type of imperfect competitive market, which consists of few large firms. These firms control the market and sell similar product, which are usually differentiated by the brand (e.g. Nike and Adidas). The most important features of oligopoly is the interdependence between firms, which means that the act of a firm will inevitably affect the other firm. However, a firm cannot be sure of how exactly the other firm will respond to their decision, therefore strategic uncertainty may be used as a tactic in oligopoly. There are many models discussing on the interaction between firms such as game theory, an analysis of strategic interaction and also conjectural variation, which will be the underlying discussion for the first part of the essay. Conjectural variation is an assumption that a firm expects a reaction from other firms in the market based on their movement. This act of conjecturing implies the uncertainty in the market. Conjectural variation is the rate of change of rival s output with respect to own output (McMillan, 2013). Equation 1.1: e.g. dp/dqA= ∂p/∂qA+∂p/∂qB ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Strategic Planning And Technical Implementation Essay While employed with the Army Materiel Command as Director of Strategic Planning and Technical Implementation, I served several roles one as the CTO for the Office of the Chief Information Officer and another as the enterprise architect. AMC served in a variety of roles one of which was the senior technical advisor for architecture and technology (ostensibly the CTO for the CIO). AMC, a 53 Billion dollar year logistics command that serves as the army version of amazon for the army s current inventory of weapons, supplies and vehicles. AMC, at this time, was employing around 100 thousand person personnel spread across 140 locations worldwide. I applied the vision and strategy to current issues within their technology infrastructure and was able to produce an analysis model that demonstrated the path forward to reduce their aged infrastructure backlog of $300M+ and reduce infrastructure operations assets by 80% using a limited annual investment ($180M+) within 4 5 years by using the infrastructure strategy to direct the replacement of the aged technology inventory. I communicated the value of these new technology solutions in terms the business executives could understand and achieved buy in from all business stakeholders on this major strategic change. • 37. Essay on Reflexivity Reflexivity When an ethnographer examines a group of people, she is influenced by her position and understanding of her own culture. Before an ethnographer even begins her research, her opinion is effecting the process of selecting a topic. For instance, Anthropology s most commonly known researcher Bronslow Malinowsky wrote the Argonauts of the Western Pacific. He did not choose to study a culture similar to his own because of the interest he had in the exotic . His preferences told him to pick a more remote group of people, the Trobriand Islanders. There has been a history of choosing the opposite of the Anthropologists own culture. Reflexivity is the use of one s experiences to examine a culture. It is my argument that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Resaldo realizes that by including personal events he may come out sounding less professional. However, I feel it is more professional [especially to this discipline] to be honest about how one concludes regarding an aspect of culture. His acknowledgment of the natural emotions that surround rituals gives the reader a more comprehensive and complete account of events. To leave out such emotions from ethnographies is to . . . remove potentially key variables from their explanations (p.12). I feel it is worth the use of personal events to base explanations on even when the risk looked down upon is prevalent. Ruth Behar supports this idea in The Vulnerable Observer: Anthropology that Breaks Your Heart. Behar addresses the critics of reflexive anthropology who think that because personal experience cannot always be believed or seen as factual (Behar: p.169). Scott Michaelson and David Johnson are her two targets in the speech she has included in her writings. She argues that though Michaelson and Johnson impose their critique of Resaldo s vulnerability and discussing his feelings regarding his wife s death, they never make themselves vulnerable (p.169). The vulnerable state that Resaldo put himself in by telling the way in which his wife died and how it effected him does not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Poverty In George Jurgis s The Jungle In the book The Jungle there are many different themes, moods, and political views. One of the major themes in this book is that most people are poor. They don t have a whole lot they squeeze by on taxes, and some don t even have homes. Most don t even have enough money to eat every day. Then to go along with being in poverty their moods are just depressed, sad, and gloomy. In the book things would start turning for the better, then something tragic would happen. In the book there is a lot politics going on the author tried to push socialism, but by showing what went on in the meat industry, it made people put in health codes. In the book The Jungle a majority of the people that live in packingtown live in poverty. They don t really have a steady job that pays well enough to get out of debt or get nice things. The whole town is really dishonest, you can t trust anyone. It s really everyone for themselves and to help their calamity s turn to a life of crime. They steal from businesses and pick pocket people. These people that do this, were once nice people that believed they could make it in America and become rich, but then reality started to set in so they had to do things to just scrape by. Jurgis the main character, when he came to America he believed he could become rich and be a millionaire, but he soon realized its not easy and he s going to have to work hard. Even doing that still didn t get him where he wanted to be so he had to take odd jobs to get extra income, by doing this he became dishonest. The name of the book basically explains what life is in packingtown. Either you eat or be eaten, you do what you have to do to better yourself. Most people don t survive in this town because of harsh working conditions, low pay, high debt, but one major theme that summarizes the whole town except the greedy bosses are poor no one really has a whole lot. People barely scrape by on taxes and debt. They have a home, but it isn t a at least a decent home. Jugis s house had really bad floors there was a sewage system right under them. Then to go along with that during the winter the heater wasn t very big so they had to wear coats. The family was always depressed, so Jurgis would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Compare And Contrast Hyde And Frankenstein Dantès is also shown to be similar to Frankenstein and Jekyll, in that the three are unable to escape from their creations. Dantès and Jekyll are trapped more so than Frankenstein, as they are the same person as their creations, whereas Frankenstein is trapped by being unable to bring himself to create a female creature due to the effect it may have on society. Frankenstein s identity is called into question here, as he becomes almost defined, in the Creature s eyes, as being unable to keep his word. The Creature s words show a parallel between himself and Hyde and Frankenstein and Jekyll: You are my creator, but I am your master obey! The verb obey causes the creator s identities to be reduced to that of slaves: Frankenstein is forced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Dantès is imprisoned, he loses his name, Hyde is known solely by his appearance, and the Creature is never given a name. This contrasts with the socially accepted Monte Cristo, Henry Jekyll and Victor Frankenstein. Their names allow them to be accepted by, not forgotten about, shunned, or left incapable of joining, society. Unlike Hyde and Dantès, the Creature is never named. He is constantly referred to as a creature and a miserable fiend. This mainly comes through Frankenstein s point of view, which suggests that the Creature s monstrousness stems from Frankenstein s perceptions of him and the way he is originally presented to the reader. Had the novel been written from his point of view, it can be suggested that the Creature would not be viewed as such a monster by society, and readers would have more sympathy for him. The absence causes him to be dehumanised in a similar way to Dantès, who is renamed Number 34. Hyde, however, is named, allowing Jekyll s view of his alter ego being natural and human to be more accepted by society. Hyde s naturalness can said to be due to his evilness as he represents the original sin found inside all of us. Dantès and the Creature are shunned by society when they are without a name because they are distanced from society. Whilst Dantès distance is literal as he has been taken away from Marseille, the Creature s distance remains figurative he follows Frankenstein and is in fact very close to society. His distance stems from his hideousness and the absence of a name to introduce himself by. He is left to forge his own identity which comes as an incredibly hard task. Modern readers have felt sympathy for the Creature in his struggle to be accepted: Shelley s use of his point of view in the novel aids this, however at the time of writing, readers generally viewed the Creature as a ...
