Role of Public Health Personnel and Nurses in Disaster...
Introduction Disaster is anything that can occur causing damages, an ecological disruption and
deterioration of health and the health services. Disaster can be manmade or natural disasters such as
floods. When disasters like flooding or tornadoes that may be accompanied by floods occur, the public
health personnel and public health nurses are normally the first people who respond to the emergency,
given that they are the people who understand and know the available resources used in providing first
aids to the affected victims. The disaster nurses are known to be more professional in nursing skills to
meet the nursing physical needs that results from the disaster. They mainly focus on health of
communities and the entire population. This paper analyzes the role of major public health personnel
and public health nurse in disaster management, with particular interest in the flood event occasioned
by a tornado. It also describes chain of commands used in simulation for community health nurse and
actions that can be taken by the community health nurse to solve the situation after disaster.
Roles of public health personnel and public health nurse involved in disaster During an emergency
such as flood disaster, public health personnel and public health nurse are tasked with different duties
to help the victims. The main aim of the public health personnel is to provide health services to people
and the community affected by the floods. It is therefore necessary for them to

Ugetsu Dualism
Ugetsu is one of the most critically acclaimed and culturally significant films to come out of the
Japanese Golden Age of Cinema. Directed by Kenji Mizoguchi, who stood with Ozu and Kurosawa as
what are widely regarded by film critics and scholars to be the three greatest filmmakers and masters
of their craft that rose to prominence during the Nipponese age of cinema in Japan. Ugetsu is a
stunningly multifaceted story that begins as the tale of two families trying to achieve the realization of
their ambitions through different means and turns into a cautionary, almost mythological, fable that
shows the consequences of the main characters single minded determination to bring their dreams to
fruition. The elements of mythos and mysticism come ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also uses these crafted dualities to transfer the mythological and fable like qualities of the written
stories he is interpreting to cinematic experience that is accessible while not seeming radically
unimaginable. Mizoguchi also uses elements of foreshadowing to ease the audience into the transition
from realistic tale of woe into the realm of mystical caution that he weaves in Ugetsu.
Summary At its core, Ugetsu is a story of two brothers who each fall victim to a separate incarnation
of capital vice and the consequences that befall not only themselves because of their actions, but also
the consequences their actions bring down upon their loved ones. The film follows two related
families comprised of Genjuro, his wife Miyagi (Tanaka Kinuyo), and their son Genichi (Ikio
Sawamura) who live alongside their neighbors Tobei and his wife Ohama (Mitsuko Mito) during the
Japanese Sengoku era between 1467 and 1573 while the country is embroiled in a massive civil war.

How Graffiti Has Changed Over Time
Guillermo Corte
Professor Peppard
English 110 86
04 May 2015 How Graffiti has Changed over Time. Graffiti is the act of inscribing or drawing on
walls for the purpose of communicating a message to the general public. The term comes from the
Greek term Graphein, which means to write. Graffiti has been around since men first started drawing
pictures in caves. However, the focus of this paper is not on pre historic or amateur graffiti, but on the
modern hip hop graffiti movement that began in the late 1960 s. The graffiti has two versions: a legal
aspect, in which artists are able to spray paintings and murals of great spectacle and technical. The
illegal side, is where they express their painting in public spaces such as schools, metros, trains,
posters, and wall Streets, etc. Graffiti are a poor choice for people who practiced this objective
because it deny people in follow good roads which is seen a bad self expression and they also may be
expensive, putting pressure on low income families. Controversial, secrecy, and taboo are some points
that connect with graffiti argument where graffiti has changed over the years.
The difference between art and vandalism is the vandal do not respect for another individual
properties. However, society still discriminates against very talented men and women who put their
talents to the public. These are considered as vandals because they damage private property and

Change the American Philosophy on Consumerism and the...
The best solution to the mortgage crisis America is facing today is both easy . . . and difficult to
execute. The solution is two pronged: change the American philosophy on consumerism and debt
while also making concrete changes in the way the lending industry works. Both demand taking a long
term view in order to be successful.
A New Philosophy
Changing one s philosophy is easy, but putting it into practice on a daily basis is not. One needs to
employ will power, diligence and the ability to think long term, all virtues that fell by the wayside
long ago in America. Anymore, Americans get what they want, when they want it from a seemingly
infinite list of choices and it is all purchased with credit. Americans pay for their immediate ... Show

As with any business, the savviest professionals are those who are truly educated in their field, and in
the case of sales, their products. Not only did banks offer exotic loans that were generally not
sagacious for most Americans, but individual salespeople didn t necessarily understand their products
(let alone buyers) which made for a risky combination that led to the current crisis. People signed on
the dotted line without understanding what they were committing to, and those employed to guide
them through the process were no more versed in the products themselves. Enforcing more stringent
certification requirements for individual loan officers would help salespeople to better understand their
products, making them more capable of guiding clients into the best fit loans. Finally, in addition to
increasing the level of training required for loan officers, it would be beneficial for borrowers to
demonstrate a certain level of understanding of what they are committing to. The costs of owning a
home are more complicated than a mortgage alone; with the purchase of a mortgage comes the
commitment to pay taxes, home owner s association fees and other hidden costs, not to mention the
fact that a person with a mortgage can get a home equity line of credit. Education programs that could
be offered through lenders would be

Exploring the Ontological Argument
Exploring the Ontological Argument For nearly a thousand years, the ontological argument has
captured the attention of philosophers. The ontological argument was revolutionary in its sequence
from thought to reality. It was an argument that did not require any corresponding experiment in
reality; it functioned without the necessity of empirical data. Despite flaws and problems found in
some ontological arguments and the objections raised to those arguments, ontological arguments still
provide a phenomenal vehicle for ontological discussion through St. Anselm s original ideas and
argument, objections raised, and revisions of previous arguments. The ontological argument still
intrigues philosophers despite potential objections and flaws ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

258). It does not matter who or what that Greatest Conceivable Being is identified as; anyone and
everyone can have an idea of that being. The third premise works off of the idea that it is greater for
something to exist in reality than simply as an idea in our minds (Cowan Spiegel, 2009, p. 258). The
idea is that existence is a quality that can make something greater than something equal in all aspects
except for existence. A red balloon in my mind would not be as great as a red balloon that actually
exists. So, in order for the Greatest Conceivable Being to actually be the greatest, it needs to exist in
reality. The fourth premise says that if God, or the Greatest Conceivable Being, was only an idea in
the mind, then he would not be as great as he could be because he did not exist in reality. So, if God
does not exist in reality, then we would be able to imagine or conceive a being greater than him. The
fifth premise ties back in to the first: God, by definition, is the Greatest Conceivable Being. If he did
not exist, then he would not be the Greatest Conceivable Being. There would be a being that is greater.
However, it would be self contradictory to say that there would be a being greater than the Greatest
Conceivable Being (Himma, n.d., para. 1). If something is the greatest, there cannot be something
greater. The sixth premise brings the argument to a conclusion: if the Greatest Conceivable Being is
the greatest, that

Art Criticism Of The Gold Lustreware Bowl By Galileo Chini
A Gold Lustreware Maiolica Bowl by Galileo Chini
(fig.1) Maiolica bowl polychrome gold, grey and bronze colour. Circa 1902 1904.Galileo Chini. L
Arte della Ceramica Fontebuoni, Florence. Museo Galileo Chini, Borgo San lorenzo.
The gold lustreware bowl by Galileo Chini is an object which could seem on first glance devoid of
special significance: just a beautiful decorative object enjoyed at face value. (Fig.1) But in the
seeming void I saw a repository of layered meanings which I attempted to interpret by examining the
artistic cross cultural influences in Florence in the late nineteenth century. And to address the question
of why the Mediaeval Hispano Moresque gold lustreware and the design motifs of the Gothic
Revivalist repertoires were found on this bowl. I examine why Chini became inspired to use these
designs and what they may have meant to him.
In this essay I will examine why there was a taste for lustreware in the Florentine workshops and how
their clients saw themselves reflected by these golden objects. ... Show more content on

The ceramics produced by Galileo Chini show a large repertoire of historical motifs and cross cultural
influences which blended to create a unique creation and distinctly Stile Liberty. From my own
observations of his artistic output I would suggest that Chini did not imitate Renaissance maiolica to
attract a certain erudite clientele, as in the case of the Cantagalli workshop, but developed his own
voice adapting design motifs from the past and projecting them into a new language which is
demonstrably modern

Benefits Of Staying Single In Japan
Staying Single is Popular in Japan When people talk about what family is, the first image in my mind
is that a father and his son are sitting on the deep green grass beside a jewelry blue lake, and colorful
birds are singing while the sun is shining on their smiling faces, which is a good example from Once
More to the Lake (White). What is a family? In my opinion, a family is that the people have the close
relationship and share the responsibility for each other. In a family, people love each other and follow
the same value, and they share the same sorrow and happiness, and they support each other, such as
the father s helping his son to do carpentry from The Inheritance of Tools (Sanders). Considering for
these, a family seems like at least two persons in people s traditional opinions. If more and more
people want to stay single instead of getting married, what and how will affect our society? I have
some Japanese friends in International Education Center, which is an ESL school for international
students. They tell me that living single has been popular in Japan, and they have some relatives who
prefer to a single life. Staying single in Japan is increasing because of the pressure of finances for
supporting a family, and this kind of trend results in the growth rate of population is declining, which
gives a great challenge to Japanese society. There are more people who want to stay single, which is a
significant trend in Japan. The reason might be that it is more

U.s. Health Care System
The U.S. health care system faces challenges and it is urgent that the American people become aware
of these challenges. There are approximately 46 million Americans who are uninsured, and many
insured Americans who face rapid increases in premiums have to pay out of pocket costs. As Congress
and the Obama administration consider ways to invest new funds to reduce the number of Americans
without insurance coverage, people must address shortfalls in the quality and efficiency of care that
lead to higher costs and to poor health outcomes. If something is not done soon, there will be many
more who will not have health care coverage that is affordable or they will be without coverage
altogether.
There is evidence that Americans often do not get the care they need. This is alarming because the
United States spends more money per person on health care than any other nation in the world. Health
care in the United State is not used as effectively as it should be used; this results in higher spending
on complex and chronic diseases. Patients who suffer from hypertension, heart disease, and diabetes
often do not receive the health care and effective treatments such as drug therapies or self management
services to help them more effectively manage their conditions. People with these diseases need more
than medicine; they need the treatment and health education to help them know and understand their
disease and be able to live a more healthy lifestyle. This is true for insured,

My Classroom Analysis
As a future educator, I will definitely use tons of technology in my classroom! Technology is growing
so rapidly, and it important to make sure students are comfortable using it. For students to be
successful outside of school, they need to know how to use technology and communicate effectively
online. It is very important to me that I continue to learn more about educational technology tools, so I
can incorporate current technologies in my classroom. Continually learning about new technologies is
a great way to engage in personal growth. I have learned so much in this class alone about educational
technologies from this class alone, and I know there is still so much out there for me to learn about.
This course has given me tons of ideas for different tools I will employ in my classroom. BrainPop is
an awesome tool, I love that it is filled with educational games but it also gives the teachers lesson
plans to incorporate it into your state educational standards. Educreations is another tool that I will be
using in my future classroom. I think it would be great for older students to create their own mini
lessons on a tablet to share with the class. I also really enjoyed Socrative. This was a great online tool
for administering quizzes online. Being able to watch how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Scapegoat In Shirley Jackson s The Lottery
Shirley Jackson s story, The Lottery is a horror story that starts off with a friendly atmosphere, and
hints suspense to a brutal ending. We have withheld information in our society; The Lottery does also.
The lottery that took place in the story was fair and created uncertainty to the readers. One theme from
the story is fairness. From the story, we can relate to fairness and use of scapegoat in our society. The
author used satire, so we the readers are persuaded to change for the good. At the beginning of the
story, the author foreshadowed what was to come, but didn t say the lottery s reason for being held till
the end. The author related some of the characters names to their true purpose in the story. Jackson

The author never said why the lottery took place. In the end, we can conclude when stones club
Tessie; the lottery is not a happy thing as the beginning of the story portrays. The reason the children
were gathering rocks into piles and putting them in their pockets was also not shown until the end. The
reasons for holding the lottery are unfair and so is making every town s person participate in it. A
scapegoat is a person or animal, which takes on the sins of others, or is unfairly blamed for problems.
Examples that people in our society believe are scapegoats are immigrants, senior citizens and poor
people. Still to this day our society follows tradition as the town s people did in the story. The tradition
some people do today is not as bad as the tradition used in the story. The scapegoat in the story helped
support satire the author used so we as the readers want to change. The author uses satire to directly
connect with our society s flaws. She does this by having the town s people do something that is
wrong and terrible. Then, we look at what we do that could be wrong and terrible. The purpose of
satire is to shame individual members and society itself to improve its

Theories Of The Beltway Sniper
Abstract
This paper will try to explore two theories of the beltway sniper. The first is the conflict theory and the
second is the psychological theory. There will be summarizing of the crime (dates, offenders, how
they were caught if they were). The two theories will try to explore the crime. Each of the theory will
shed light on the reasons for the crime. For this paper, I will provide evidence to which theory seems
to be stronger. I will also show any evidence that will lead to the deviant path that was taken. I will be
explaining how you determine the path that was taken for the crime. I hope that after reading this the
audience will have a better understanding of the conflict and psychological theory of the beltway DC

Cruel And Unusual Punishment
The cruel and unusual punishment provision is that the law must treat all criminals with dignity even
the most despicable ones. Any sentence that is taking lives instead of rehabilitating is cruel and
unusual and infringes the decency of society. The corrections system helps rehabilitate inmates
through individual or group counseling about the cause of incarceration. They train them with suitable
skills programs, such as how to prepare a job application and to interviews, and the importance of
maintaining a steady employment to support family responsibilities. They help the inmates through
educational programs to achieve a higher education while in prison and to succeed economically and
live a healthier lifestyle outside of prison. The corrections system hopes with new skills incorporated;
they will be able to be more productive. Keeping them engaged with medical and psychiatric
treatment will keep them mentally stable for their reentry into the community. James Gilligan (2012),
a Psychiatry Professor at NewYork University, stated that Two thirds of inmates reoffending within
three years with more violent crimes after leaving prison which means incarceration for punishment
does not work positively. Inflicting punishment on convicts for pay back only makes them more
empowered criminals. Rehabilitation is the only key to reducing crimes because a regenerated person
is more conscious of how their behaviors cause their loved ones and others around them to suffer.

Synthesis Essay On Eating Locally
Eating local is a simple change, but can make a difference in a few aspects. Food is able to stay on the
vine longer and grow more nutrients for your body and money you spend locally will recycle through
your community. Locavorism is becoming more popular and farmers markets a high demand since
more people are discovering the benefits of it. Overall, it proves to be better for everyone when you
buy and eat locally grown food.
Eating locally grown food is better for you. When food is grown far away, packaged harshly, and
shipped in less than pleasant conditions, it isn t as fresh when it actually reaches your family s dinner
plates. Food that travels farther distances doesn t have the strong vitamins and minerals our bodies
need because [f]ood begins to lose nutrition as soon as it is harvested (Source B). But local farmers are
able to sustain the nutrition by allowing the food to ripen until the last possible minute on the vine

tasting produce that was shipped from far away, in a land where Walmart promotes cheap labor. Your

The Muscular Dystrophy Association ( Mda )
As a member of DECA, I have had the opportunity to network with the Muscular Dystrophy
Association (MDA). While learning about the work the association does, I realized that I want to do
similar work. In my effort, I worked on a promotional campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy
Association. Neuromuscular diseases, like Muscular Dystrophy, take away physical strength and
eventually life. The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) fights to find a way to give back
strength, independence, and life. The work they do truly changes lives; however, they need support
from others.
The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) has contributed to numerous research through MDA
Venture Philanthropy and MDA Funded Meetings. The MDA Venture Philanthropy, or MVP, is a drug
development program. The MVP program uses elements of a venture capital model to provide funds
for researchers. Furthermore, when many researchers and scientists are brought together they can
accomplish great things. MDA organizes and funds conferences to discuss the current status of
treatment and therapies for muscular dystrophy and other neuromuscular diseases. As the world s
largest non profit supporter of neuromuscular research, MDA has contributed to almost every
neuromuscular development in the last fifty years.
Outside of research, MDA provides help and hope for people who deal with muscular disease by
providing support groups, care centers, summer camps, flu season support, and more. The care centers

Essay On Didgeridoo
What is Didgeridoo? The didgeridoo also known as didjerido is an Australian Aboriginal wind
instrument in the form of a long wooden tube. Traditionally made from a hollow branch. This
instrument is blown to produce a deep and resonant sound. Its varied by rhythmic accents of volume
and timbre. Some believe the Australian Aborigine has been using the didgeridoo for over 40,000
years, the oldest records of Aborigines playing the didgeridoo date back 2000 years in the form of old
Northern Territory cave and rock paintings. Australian aboriginal music is sometimes classified in
three categories, secular, sacred and secret. These categories are generally more functional than
musical. The didgeridoo s instruments family are brass, and wind. The related instruments are post
horn, trumpet, buggle, and cornet. Originally, didgeridoo was just played as an accompaniment
instrument for dancing and singing ceremony. But it was also commonly played for a solo and outside
of recreational ceremonial gathering purpose. For aboriginal groups of northern Australia, the

How Did The Great Debate Pros And Cons
The Great Debates The political debates amongst Nixon and Kennedy assume a gigantic part in TV
history, and the historical backdrop of America. It formed the way that we run our political races
today. The politics debate being aired on television enabled individuals to see the character and
activities of both candidates. During these televised debates, various viewers saw Kennedy s self
assurance and how well put together he was. But then on the other hand, Nixon had a harder time and
gave off a frightful vibe to the viewers who were watching the debated. Individuals who watched it on
TV felt Kennedy won the debate, while the individuals who tuned in to the radio felt Nixon won. This

Hot Tin Roof Brick
In the play, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, the character Brick is the main focal point. Brick is the favorite in
the family and it would seem he is living the American dream; he married a beautiful woman, went to
college, became a football player, which would make it seem this way, but Brick is deep in
alcoholism. In the play Brick is a broken mess and he is haunted by who he was before his life came
tumbling down and before he lost Skipper, his best friend and possible lover. The play Death of a
Salesman is about a family trying to achieve the American Dream which is never really there. The
father Willy raises his family in this allusion and his family is ruined throughout the play, at the end of
the play Willy commits suicide to try and give his son Biff the fake dream. Biff, just like Brick is the

father a, phony little fake. He calls him this because his father has come into the light and the veil off

Biological Weapons Of Mass Destruction Essay
Biological Weapons of Mass Destruction
One of the three serious weapons used for mass destruction is biological. Historically, biological
weapons are the oldest form of WMD and have been in use since the Medieval Ages. During medieval
times corpses were placed on catapults and launched into an enemy s water or food supply to poison is
and cause deadly infections. As far as being used the United States, in 1763 when British officers
planned to distribute blankets with smallpox (eku, 2017). In this era the use of biological weapons was

Smallpox is another highly contagious viral disease that shows signs of high fever, severe weakness,
and an eruption of pimples that blister, produce pus, and form pockmarks on the body. The most
common three ways biological weapons work are: One is contact with the skin, two is gastrointestinal,
and three is pulmonary (eku, 2011). Biological weapons are very serious and any country, state, or city
being threatened by this needs to take it very seriously. Not only is this type of weapon hazardous but
it is actually pretty easy to create and get a hold of. Terrorist groups are drawn to easy ways to create
panic and chaos, threatening to release this type of weapon will definitely cause that. A biological
attack can not only cause sickness and death in one particular area, but can also spread from one
country to another due to how easily it can be spread.
Chemical Weapons of Mass Destruction
Chemical weapons are manmade poisons that are made to kill, injure, and incapacitate others. They
are dangerous because they are silent and are often invisible to the naked eye. They typically attack
different parts of the body like skin, lungs, and can make you confused of what is going around you.
Types of chemical weapons include blister agents, blood agents, choking hazard agents, nerve agents,
tear gas, vomiting agents and psychiatric compounds. . These agents can be sarin, arsines, cyanide,

also been shown to reduce the risk. Increased consumption of red meat and processed meat has been

suggests that certain dietary supplements, such as calcium, selenium and, possibly, folic acid can
reduce the risk.

Transformation Of Bilbo Baggins In The Hobbit By J. R.
The Hobbit is a book written by J.R.R. Tolkien that has entertained people for decades. The Hobbit is
an adventure fiction story. The main theme is the development and transformation of Bilbo Baggins
into a hero and an outgoing person. I chose this theme because at the beginning of the story, Bilbo is a
person that only worries about himself and only focuses on the comforts in life; and is very
introverted. Towards the ending of the story, Bilbo transforms into a hero due to the situations he
encounters.
The setting of the story occurs in a fictional place called Middle Earth. We don t know the year the
story takes place in. Consisting in northern Middle Earth is the Shire, the lush pasture in which hobbits
reside, along with the western lands. The Misty Mountains run directly through northern Middle Earth
from north to south. Beyond the Misty Mountains to the east lies the dreaded forest of Mirkwood,
which is of immense size. To the north of Mirkwood lie the Grey Mountains, which are not very
important in this book. To the east of Mirkwood lies the Running River and Lake Town, and the

The Ethics Of The Fire Department
Introduction
The firefighting departments across the globe have met public criticisms over their services. The Fire
Department have also experienced media bashing on a number of occasions. Some of the criticisms
have no basis and could be personal hatred projected towards the emergency response body. Some
criticisms on the other hand, are based on factual evidence. The most important thing that comes out is
the need for the Fire Department to come up with measures to market its image to the critics, both
public and the media. Just like any other organization in public service, the Fire Department needs to
ensure that they offer quality services to the consumers and that whatever they do is effectively
communicated. The other challenge they have to deal with is the ignorance on the part of the public.
Some of the criticisms they receive can be linked absolute lack of awareness and misunderstanding on
the part of the citizens about the role of the Fire Department. The Fire Department in an attempt to
market itself and redeem its public image has to come up with a strategic plan that covers two broad
areas, efficient service delivery and effective achievements communication. Managing public
perception about the brand is a key component in Public Service Management.
Discussion
There several strategic steps that can be taken by the Fire Department in order to curb the negative
effects of negative publicity and to market itself. The first strategy is communication management.

Personal Statement On Communication Skills
Many people are not aware of the communication skills that they lack, most will argue that they have
perfect communication skills. Taking interpersonal communication has taught me that my skills are
very poor. I walked in thinking there was nothing I can learn about communication and realized that I
know little to nothing about communication. Since starting this class I ve narrowed the skills I need to
work on to the following four which includes listening, being more supportive and active,
understanding, and improving my self concept. Although all four of these skills are something I can
improve I think listening is my main problem.
When I think of listening I relate it to just hearing the message. I do not follow the process of listening
that was taught in my communication class. Rather than receiving, recalling, rating, and responding, I
often hear and skip right to responding. I do believe that because I don t follow all the steps I forget
easily or do not understand things completely, which leads to me either questioning later, or just
winging it. I also realized that I have selective listening, because of lack of interest in some
conversations I often block out part of the conversation, or lose focus and zone out until the end of the
conversation. By then I know little of what was talked about and only respond to what I think is most
important to me. Another bad habit I have when it comes to listening is my responding habits, I m not
sure how to respond to most

Limitations Of UN Peacekeeping
4. LIMITATIONS OF PEACEKEEPING
Limitations of UN Peacekeeping have been exposed time and again. The alterations caused by these
limitations have now been incorporated in the operational structure. The influence of a UN
Peacekeeping Operation, too, depends on extent of involvement of various actors, whose conduct
depends greatly on assessment of strategic interests. So, the characterization of United Nations as an
international authority which could issue directives to enforce its mandate would be an overstatement
as previous missions have demonstrated. There have been calls for overhauling the UN Peacekeeping
structure. A High level independent panel on peace operations was appointed by Ban Ki moon, former
Secretary General of United Nations in October, 2014 to review the state of UN Peacekeeping
Operations. A major concern shared by all panel members which was also earmarked as an essential
shift in the future process was the emphasis laid on striving towards a political solution rather than an
attempt to diffuse the crisis by military means alone. Political instability has been at the roots of many
conflicts, which the UN has sought to defuse by deployment of peacekeeping missions. Most missions
failed to address the larger issue of restoring stability, on account of the fact that military interventions
change the dynamics of regional security forever. Also, removal of a regime could lead to further
deterioration of the conflict as political vacuum created by such removal and facilitating the creation
of an interim proxy regime has challenges of its own. Taking out governments/rulers is perceived as
the most effective immediate response to any call for intervention. The real challenge for international
community arises after a successful throw over, as it pushes the country towards a political crisis. It is
this situation that world/regional powers are keen on exploiting by appointing friendly rulers, with an
eye on strategic interests, which is why a concerted political solution should be the primary objective
of the international community to avoid complications. U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki
Haley recently hit out at the UN peacekeeping operations, calling for a clear demarcation between

Neorealism Movement In Cinema
Italian Neorealism, French New Wave Directors, and Dogme 95 filmmakers were three very important
movements in cinema. The first very movement was called neorealism which lasted from 1944 1952
and reacted to the dominant mode of Italian cinema which was based on a fascist regime but also dealt
with the socio economic conditions from post world war 2 in Italy. The second movement began
around 1958 and was called the French new wave directors and reacted against the industries lack of
quality and directors small participation in vision. In 1955 the third wave called Dogme 95 films
began and was a movement that was against the big budget Hollywood films and use of special
effects.
The origin of Italian Neorealism began after the fall of Mussolini s Fascist regime in 1943 and the end
of World War 2. Now being free from fascist censorship Italian directors were able to blend cinematic
realism with social and political problems facing Italy which would have never been allowed earlier.
The term neorealism was first used by film critic Antonio Pietrangeli towards Luchino Visconti s film
Ossessione. The French New Wave was started by five French film enthusiast: André Bazin, Jean Luc
Godard, Claude Chabrol, François Truffaut, Jacques Rivette who wrote and discuss cinema because
they lacked the money to create films themselves. They talked about how movies have become stale

The World Is Too Much With Us By William Wordsworth
The Romantic period is a time when artists, poets, and writers turned their views from the eighteenth
century focus on reason and thinking. They now emphasize imagination and beauty in nature. Reason
and thinking are no longer the way to see how the world works, how to gain experience, imagination
is. Literature, writing, and art during this time find a new respect and love for nature, the common
man and childhood, senses, individual, and imagination. People at the time were also intrigued by
darker and exotic things. They felt as if it was finally acceptable to rebel, think outside the box , and
focus on human rights. Although Romantics were concentrating on these good ideas, all of their work
was not always the most pleasant. Often times it would involve death or darkness. The Romantic
period is complex one filled with contradicting and empowering ideas and works that are remembered
very well. The Raft of the Medusa was painted approximately in 1818 1819 by a prodigious French

It emphasizes that the world today is too materialistic and distracted. This poem argues that there is
too much happening in the world that people often times do not appreciate it and see what it truly is.
Instead of being amazed and recognizing the beauty of nature, people ignore it and do not care since
they see it all of the time. The speaker says that people will go as far as selling their souls to

explain that the speaker would much rather worship other gods in order to make himself less upset
over the situation. He feels that pagans have a much stronger appreciation and love for nature. This
pagan influence can also be seen when the speaker refers to Greek gods. According to the speaker,
those gods have power over nature but still appreciates

In order to be like my grandpa, I have to start learning more about how he got to where he is. The first
step for me to take is going to an automotive technician school. I found a few places such as UTI
(Universal Technician Institute), and Wyotech University which are both great places to get started.
My plan so far is to take UTI s 51 week starting program in order to get me going. After that I will be

opportunity I have to start somewhere, and I feel like UTI is a good place for me to start. At UTI the

mechanics; they will teach me everything I will need to know. Most of the students are like I am; we
all share a burning passion and love for cars, and we all strive to gain more knowledge about them.

Visual Perception Of Visual Processing
Abstract
The use of visual perception is very important in our everyday lives. Male and female undergraduates
at the University of New Orleans were tested in their abilities to distinguish the differences in 3
minutes within an allotted time. We found that gender difference sin the task were of low significance.
Gender Differences in Visual Perception: A Spot the Difference Task The use of visual perception
processing comes in to play in various concepts of everyday living. We use our visual processing
skills to gather information about the environment and integrate that information into what we have
already acquired. In concordance to the various learning processes, without the use of visual
processing, we would not be able to learn several processes that are used with vision. For instance,
reading, writing, driving, good eye hand coordination all require the use of our visual fields to learn
how to do these things. Much research has been done on the use of the visual fields in various tasks
and studies. In various studies, researchers have looked at lexical problems in the visual field, spot
change differences in the visual field and change detection abilities in relation to visual perception.
Though the spot the difference task is a great study to look at in relation to visual perception, very
little research has been done on the task and its relation to vision. Similar to the current study,
researchers (Reis, Fallon, and Waite) conducted an

Witchcraft Hysteria By Laurie Winn Carlson
As Peter S Beagle says, You ever want to see real witchcraft, you watch people protecting their
comfort, their beliefs. This quote is saying if you want to truly understand someone, learn about what
they believe in. It all began in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. The accusations toward people who
were thought to be witches was on the rise. These would not be the kind of witches a person would
think about in today s world, but women and men who were put on trial for witchcraft hysteria, which
in turn caused mass hysteria. Based on the excerpts from Carol Karlsen and Laurie Winn Carlson,
there are two main theories about the Salem Witchcraft Hysteria. One theory about the witches was
crafted and explained by Carol Karlsen. She believed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following this, in January 1692, nine year old Elizabeth Parris and eleven year old Abigail Williams
began having fits. The fits included violent contortions and uncontrollable outbursts of screaming.
After a local doctor by the name of William Griggs diagnosed the girls with bewitchment, other girls
in the area began to exhibit similar symptoms. After Elizabeth Parris and Abigail Williams both had
symptoms of being witches, it spread like wildfire in the community, followed by many others having
similar symptoms. As stated by A E networks, a historical archive website, As hysteria spread through
the community and beyond into the rest of Massachusetts, a number of others were accused, including
Martha Corey and Rebecca Nurse both regarded as upstanding members of church and community
and the four year old daughter of Sarah Good. After a while the trials became very overwhelming and
concerning to others in the community. The historical events of Salem are documented, however
historians have yet to come to consensus on the true cause of the hysteria. Many textbooks and articles
detail the Salem Witchcraft trials of 1692, as well as the many theories. A highly respected theory
centers around the idea that the witchcraft was basically people just having hallucinations. As Laurie
Carlson states in her argument, Between 1689 and 1700 the citizens complained of symptoms that
included fits, spectral visions, mental distraction , pinching

Fourth Catholic Social Teaching Essay
The Catholic Social Teachings are understood within the context of the entirety of faith. The fourth
Catholic Social Teaching principle is the option for the poor and vulnerable. According to this
principle, Christians are called to care and protect those who are poor and vulnerable due to the
existing inequities in the distribution of power. Each person receives the goods of creation. Individuals
are required to eliminate sinful inequalities that prevent people from meeting their basic needs.
Overall, the deprivation of the power of the poor affects the whole community. The fourth Catholic
Social Teaching principle is present in my service project. I had the pleasure to volunteer at El Centro

I directed more than fifty people to their designated booth and helped them set up their belongings.
Many of my efforts take the form of direct service, the first stage of service. I was involved with the
community by helping people place their belongings, such as jewelry or clothing, on their tables to
sell to the community. I had direct contact with the people and this opportunity allowed me to take
care of people s needs. Additionally, I informed people about the tutoring classes offered to students
and about the monthly food banks. Many individuals were unaware of this organization and they
gained new knowledge about El Centro Hispano. Also, I spoke about my own experience in the
organization and handed out flyers about the programs offered by El Centro Hispano. Many Hispanic
people were interested in the tutoring programs and were informed about the food banks. These poor
and vulnerable people lack necessary resources and require programs for their children to succeed in
school and in the future. Overall, I bring awareness to my community about the non profit
organization to help families gain the opportunity to use El Centro Hispano as a

American Children Should Be Banned
American businesses are prone to using children to advertise their products. Wether or not it should be
banned, depends on the company s intentions. There are good and bad people in the marketing
industry. The way children think or respond to what they are promoting is their decision. Children s
brains are developing, and many kid s do not know the difference between right or wrong. The only
way using a child to advertise could be harmful, would be if they are promoting violence. Many
children advertise new toy s, clothing, breakfast foods, and new television series etc. In that,
depending on the humor, cast, and genre could you label it harmful, or not. Both passages mention
that it is only a money making industry, for both the business

Amusing Ourselves For Death By Neil Postman
In the second part of Neil Postman s book, Amusing Ourselves to Death, the author examines the
medium of education in order to exhibit how it has affected and fashioned modern public discourse.
Postman uses a two part argument on the topic of the influence that television has over education. In
order to properly demonstrate the authors view and evidence on this subject of discourse, as well as
my own, I will explore how television presents education as well as how exactly television has
managed to alter education when it is faced outside of television. Postman believes that when the
discourse of education is presented on television, its only purpose is to entertain. Education on
television is believed to teach youth in a way that they will embrace with open arms due to their prior
understanding to television. To further expand on his own viewpoint, Postman makes the claim that
television is a curriculum. The author defines a curriculum to be a specifically constructed information
system whose purpose is to influence, teach, train or cultivate the mind and character of youth (146).
The author makes the claim that rather than achieving its aim to teach and train youth in a more
colorful fashion, it instead only draws the young viewer to love the images that are being shown
through a screen. The author proposes that television has three separate commandments that make up
the values of education. Postman introduces the first commandment, thou shalt have no prerequisites,

The Civil Rights Of The Grass Roots Level Dr. Martin...
As discussed previously, JFK started awareness for Civil Rights, his actions in Birmingham, coupled
with the media coverage; however, it was LBJ s ability to use his connections in congress to pass laws
that changed the face of voting and civil right throughout the United States. As far as the leadership at
the Grass roots level Dr. Martin Luther King is the most famous, due to the nonviolent protests and
boycotts; however Rosa Parks, Aurelia Browder, and Louise Keys, were the catalysis for the grass
roots movement. Although not much is mentioned of these individuals. President s Eisenhower, JFK
and LBJ along with the sitting justices on the Supreme Court share credit on the national level. Firstly
the Presidents by supporting Supreme Court decisions, calling congress to pass laws, and taking action
when States clearly chose to disregard the law, and the Courts by applying the intent of the
Constitution and declaring laws unjust while supporting unpopular laws because the met the intent of
the Constitution. I don t believe that one person alone mattered the most, the nonviolent protest by Dr.
Martin Luther King coupled by his speech on the steps of the Lincoln memorial were very powerful,
but without action by the courts, the leaders in congress and the Presidency. However, the media
played a large part in how the American public viewed civil rights, when images of dogs attacking
nonviolent protesters, people beaten and killed because of color changes the view of right and

  • 2. Role of Public Health Personnel and Nurses in Disaster... Introduction Disaster is anything that can occur causing damages, an ecological disruption and deterioration of health and the health services. Disaster can be manmade or natural disasters such as floods. When disasters like flooding or tornadoes that may be accompanied by floods occur, the public health personnel and public health nurses are normally the first people who respond to the emergency, given that they are the people who understand and know the available resources used in providing first aids to the affected victims. The disaster nurses are known to be more professional in nursing skills to meet the nursing physical needs that results from the disaster. They mainly focus on health of communities and the entire population. This paper analyzes the role of major public health personnel and public health nurse in disaster management, with particular interest in the flood event occasioned by a tornado. It also describes chain of commands used in simulation for community health nurse and actions that can be taken by the community health nurse to solve the situation after disaster. Directed by Kenji Mizoguchi, who stood with Ozu and Kurosawa as what are widely regarded by film critics and scholars to be the three greatest filmmakers and masters of their craft that rose to prominence during the Nipponese age of cinema in Japan. Ugetsu is a stunningly multifaceted story that begins as the tale of two families trying to achieve the realization of their ambitions through different means and turns into a cautionary, almost mythological, fable that shows the consequences of the main characters single minded determination to bring their dreams to fruition. The elements of mythos and mysticism come ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He also uses these crafted dualities to transfer the mythological and fable like qualities of the written stories he is interpreting to cinematic experience that is accessible while not seeming radically unimaginable. Mizoguchi also uses elements of foreshadowing to ease the audience into the transition from realistic tale of woe into the realm of mystical caution that he weaves in Ugetsu. Summary At its core, Ugetsu is a story of two brothers who each fall victim to a separate incarnation of capital vice and the consequences that befall not only themselves because of their actions, but also the consequences their actions bring down upon their loved ones. The film follows two related families comprised of Genjuro, his wife Miyagi (Tanaka Kinuyo), and their son Genichi (Ikio Sawamura) who live alongside their neighbors Tobei and his wife Ohama (Mitsuko Mito) during the Japanese Sengoku era between 1467 and 1573 while the country is embroiled in a massive civil war. Graffiti is the act of inscribing or drawing on walls for the purpose of communicating a message to the general public. The term comes from the Greek term Graphein, which means to write. Graffiti has been around since men first started drawing pictures in caves. However, the focus of this paper is not on pre historic or amateur graffiti, but on the modern hip hop graffiti movement that began in the late 1960 s. The graffiti has two versions: a legal aspect, in which artists are able to spray paintings and murals of great spectacle and technical. The illegal side, is where they express their painting in public spaces such as schools, metros, trains, posters, and wall Streets, etc. Graffiti are a poor choice for people who practiced this objective because it deny people in follow good roads which is seen a bad self expression and they also may be expensive, putting pressure on low income families. Controversial, secrecy, and taboo are some points that connect with graffiti argument where graffiti has changed over the years. The difference between art and vandalism is the vandal do not respect for another individual properties. However, society still discriminates against very talented men and women who put their talents to the public. These are considered as vandals because they damage private property and pollute the environment in any way. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The solution is two pronged: change the American philosophy on consumerism and debt while also making concrete changes in the way the lending industry works. Both demand taking a long term view in order to be successful. A New Philosophy Changing one s philosophy is easy, but putting it into practice on a daily basis is not. One needs to employ will power, diligence and the ability to think long term, all virtues that fell by the wayside long ago in America. Anymore, Americans get what they want, when they want it from a seemingly infinite list of choices and it is all purchased with credit. Americans pay for their immediate ... Not only did banks offer exotic loans that were generally not sagacious for most Americans, but individual salespeople didn t necessarily understand their products (let alone buyers) which made for a risky combination that led to the current crisis. People signed on the dotted line without understanding what they were committing to, and those employed to guide them through the process were no more versed in the products themselves. Enforcing more stringent certification requirements for individual loan officers would help salespeople to better understand their products, making them more capable of guiding clients into the best fit loans. Finally, in addition to increasing the level of training required for loan officers, it would be beneficial for borrowers to demonstrate a certain level of understanding of what they are committing to. The costs of owning a home are more complicated than a mortgage alone; with the purchase of a mortgage comes the commitment to pay taxes, home owner s association fees and other hidden costs, not to mention the fact that a person with a mortgage can get a home equity line of credit. The ontological argument was revolutionary in its sequence from thought to reality. It was an argument that did not require any corresponding experiment in reality; it functioned without the necessity of empirical data. Despite flaws and problems found in some ontological arguments and the objections raised to those arguments, ontological arguments still provide a phenomenal vehicle for ontological discussion through St. Anselm s original ideas and argument, objections raised, and revisions of previous arguments. The ontological argument still intrigues philosophers despite potential objections and flaws ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 258). It does not matter who or what that Greatest Conceivable Being is identified as; anyone and everyone can have an idea of that being. The third premise works off of the idea that it is greater for something to exist in reality than simply as an idea in our minds (Cowan Spiegel, 2009, p. 258). The idea is that existence is a quality that can make something greater than something equal in all aspects except for existence. A red balloon in my mind would not be as great as a red balloon that actually exists. So, in order for the Greatest Conceivable Being to actually be the greatest, it needs to exist in reality. The fourth premise says that if God, or the Greatest Conceivable Being, was only an idea in the mind, then he would not be as great as he could be because he did not exist in reality. So, if God does not exist in reality, then we would be able to imagine or conceive a being greater than him. The fifth premise ties back in to the first: God, by definition, is the Greatest Conceivable Being. If he did not exist, then he would not be the Greatest Conceivable Being. There would be a being that is greater. However, it would be self contradictory to say that there would be a being greater than the Greatest Conceivable Being (Himma, n.d., para. 1). If something is the greatest, there cannot be something greater. The sixth premise brings the argument to a conclusion: if the Greatest Conceivable Being is the greatest, that ... Circa 1902 1904.Galileo Chini. L Arte della Ceramica Fontebuoni, Florence. Museo Galileo Chini, Borgo San lorenzo. The gold lustreware bowl by Galileo Chini is an object which could seem on first glance devoid of special significance: just a beautiful decorative object enjoyed at face value. (Fig.1) But in the seeming void I saw a repository of layered meanings which I attempted to interpret by examining the artistic cross cultural influences in Florence in the late nineteenth century. And to address the question of why the Mediaeval Hispano Moresque gold lustreware and the design motifs of the Gothic Revivalist repertoires were found on this bowl. I examine why Chini became inspired to use these designs and what they may have meant to him. • 9. Benefits Of Staying Single In Japan Staying Single is Popular in Japan When people talk about what family is, the first image in my mind is that a father and his son are sitting on the deep green grass beside a jewelry blue lake, and colorful birds are singing while the sun is shining on their smiling faces, which is a good example from Once More to the Lake (White). What is a family? In my opinion, a family is that the people have the close relationship and share the responsibility for each other. In a family, people love each other and follow the same value, and they share the same sorrow and happiness, and they support each other, such as the father s helping his son to do carpentry from The Inheritance of Tools (Sanders). Considering for these, a family seems like at least two persons in people s traditional opinions. If more and more people want to stay single instead of getting married, what and how will affect our society? I have some Japanese friends in International Education Center, which is an ESL school for international students. They tell me that living single has been popular in Japan, and they have some relatives who prefer to a single life. Staying single in Japan is increasing because of the pressure of finances for supporting a family, and this kind of trend results in the growth rate of population is declining, which gives a great challenge to Japanese society. • 10. U.s. Health Care System The U.S. health care system faces challenges and it is urgent that the American people become aware of these challenges. There are approximately 46 million Americans who are uninsured, and many insured Americans who face rapid increases in premiums have to pay out of pocket costs. As Congress and the Obama administration consider ways to invest new funds to reduce the number of Americans without insurance coverage, people must address shortfalls in the quality and efficiency of care that lead to higher costs and to poor health outcomes. If something is not done soon, there will be many more who will not have health care coverage that is affordable or they will be without coverage altogether. There is evidence that Americans often do not get the care they need. This is alarming because the United States spends more money per person on health care than any other nation in the world. Health care in the United State is not used as effectively as it should be used; this results in higher spending on complex and chronic diseases. Patients who suffer from hypertension, heart disease, and diabetes often do not receive the health care and effective treatments such as drug therapies or self management services to help them more effectively manage their conditions. People with these diseases need more than medicine; they need the treatment and health education to help them know and understand their disease and be able to live a more healthy lifestyle. • 15. Cruel And Unusual Punishment The cruel and unusual punishment provision is that the law must treat all criminals with dignity even the most despicable ones. Any sentence that is taking lives instead of rehabilitating is cruel and unusual and infringes the decency of society. The corrections system helps rehabilitate inmates through individual or group counseling about the cause of incarceration. They train them with suitable skills programs, such as how to prepare a job application and to interviews, and the importance of maintaining a steady employment to support family responsibilities. They help the inmates through educational programs to achieve a higher education while in prison and to succeed economically and live a healthier lifestyle outside of prison. The corrections system hopes with new skills incorporated; they will be able to be more productive. Keeping them engaged with medical and psychiatric treatment will keep them mentally stable for their reentry into the community. James Gilligan (2012), a Psychiatry Professor at NewYork University, stated that Two thirds of inmates reoffending within three years with more violent crimes after leaving prison which means incarceration for punishment does not work positively. Inflicting punishment on convicts for pay back only makes them more empowered criminals. The MDA Venture Philanthropy, or MVP, is a drug development program. The MVP program uses elements of a venture capital model to provide funds for researchers. Furthermore, when many researchers and scientists are brought together they can accomplish great things. MDA organizes and funds conferences to discuss the current status of treatment and therapies for muscular dystrophy and other neuromuscular diseases. As the world s largest non profit supporter of neuromuscular research, MDA has contributed to almost every neuromuscular development in the last fifty years. Taking interpersonal communication has taught me that my skills are very poor. Since starting this class I ve narrowed the skills I need to work on to the following four which includes listening, being more supportive and active, understanding, and improving my self concept. Although all four of these skills are something I can improve I think listening is my main problem. When I think of listening I relate it to just hearing the message. I do not follow the process of listening that was taught in my communication class. Rather than receiving, recalling, rating, and responding, I often hear and skip right to responding. I do believe that because I don t follow all the steps I forget easily or do not understand things completely, which leads to me either questioning later, or just winging it. I also realized that I have selective listening, because of lack of interest in some conversations I often block out part of the conversation, or lose focus and zone out until the end of the conversation. • 37. Limitations Of UN Peacekeeping 4. LIMITATIONS OF PEACEKEEPING Limitations of UN Peacekeeping have been exposed time and again. The alterations caused by these limitations have now been incorporated in the operational structure. The influence of a UN Peacekeeping Operation, too, depends on extent of involvement of various actors, whose conduct depends greatly on assessment of strategic interests. So, the characterization of United Nations as an international authority which could issue directives to enforce its mandate would be an overstatement as previous missions have demonstrated. There have been calls for overhauling the UN Peacekeeping structure. A High level independent panel on peace operations was appointed by Ban Ki moon, former Secretary General of United Nations in October, 2014 to review the state of UN Peacekeeping Operations. A major concern shared by all panel members which was also earmarked as an essential shift in the future process was the emphasis laid on striving towards a political solution rather than an attempt to diffuse the crisis by military means alone. Political instability has been at the roots of many conflicts, which the UN has sought to defuse by deployment of peacekeeping missions. Most missions failed to address the larger issue of restoring stability, on account of the fact that military interventions change the dynamics of regional security forever. Also, removal of a regime could lead to further deterioration of the conflict as political vacuum created by such removal and facilitating the creation of an interim proxy regime has challenges of its own. Taking out governments/rulers is perceived as the most effective immediate response to any call for intervention. The real challenge for international community arises after a successful throw over, as it pushes the country towards a political crisis. It is this situation that world/regional powers are keen on exploiting by appointing friendly rulers, with an eye on strategic interests, which is why a concerted political solution should be the primary objective of the international community to avoid complications. Literature, writing, and art during this time find a new respect and love for nature, the common man and childhood, senses, individual, and imagination. People at the time were also intrigued by darker and exotic things. They felt as if it was finally acceptable to rebel, think outside the box , and focus on human rights. Although Romantics were concentrating on these good ideas, all of their work was not always the most pleasant. Often times it would involve death or darkness. The Romantic period is complex one filled with contradicting and empowering ideas and works that are remembered very well. The Raft of the Medusa was painted approximately in 1818 1819 by a prodigious French painter Theodore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It emphasizes that the world today is too materialistic and distracted. This poem argues that there is too much happening in the world that people often times do not appreciate it and see what it truly is. Instead of being amazed and recognizing the beauty of nature, people ignore it and do not care since they see it all of the time. The speaker says that people will go as far as selling their souls to accumulate other things. The sonnet is an extended metaphor that compares the speaker to a pagan to explain that the speaker would much rather worship other gods in order to make himself less upset over the situation. He feels that pagans have a much stronger appreciation and love for nature. This pagan influence can also be seen when the speaker refers to Greek gods. According to the speaker, those gods have power over nature but still appreciates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That is why I have chosen to go into the automotive world. In order to be like my grandpa, I have to start learning more about how he got to where he is. The first step for me to take is going to an automotive technician school. I found a few places such as UTI (Universal Technician Institute), and Wyotech University which are both great places to get started. My plan so far is to take UTI s 51 week starting program in order to get me going. After that I will be going to their main school in Charlotte, North Carolina. Once I m there I will take a racing technician class which is around 15 weeks long, and that puts me right into the seat of racing. After researching some more I found out that if I am in the top 5 students of the racing program, I get the opportunity to be picked up and hired by an actual racing company such as Porsche, Ford, Mercedes, Chevrolet and maybe even McLaren, and get to work for them which would be an honor. But even to get that opportunity I have to start somewhere, and I feel like UTI is a good place for me to start. At UTI the learning environment looks like a collage campus from the outside, but on the inside it is one big garage full of all types of cars. The teachers are all certified automotive technicians and master mechanics; they will teach me everything I will need to know. Most of the students are like I am; we all share a burning passion and love for cars, and we all strive to gain more knowledge about them. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Witchcraft Hysteria By Laurie Winn Carlson As Peter S Beagle says, You ever want to see real witchcraft, you watch people protecting their comfort, their beliefs. This quote is saying if you want to truly understand someone, learn about what they believe in. It all began in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. The accusations toward people who were thought to be witches was on the rise. These would not be the kind of witches a person would think about in today s world, but women and men who were put on trial for witchcraft hysteria, which in turn caused mass hysteria. Following this, in January 1692, nine year old Elizabeth Parris and eleven year old Abigail Williams began having fits. The fits included violent contortions and uncontrollable outbursts of screaming. After a local doctor by the name of William Griggs diagnosed the girls with bewitchment, other girls in the area began to exhibit similar symptoms. After Elizabeth Parris and Abigail Williams both had symptoms of being witches, it spread like wildfire in the community, followed by many others having similar symptoms. As stated by A E networks, a historical archive website, As hysteria spread through the community and beyond into the rest of Massachusetts, a number of others were accused, including Martha Corey and Rebecca Nurse both regarded as upstanding members of church and community and the four year old daughter of Sarah Good. After a while the trials became very overwhelming and concerning to others in the community. The historical events of Salem are documented, however historians have yet to come to consensus on the true cause of the hysteria. Many textbooks and articles detail the Salem Witchcraft trials of 1692, as well as the many theories. A highly respected theory centers around the idea that the witchcraft was basically people just having hallucinations. As Laurie Carlson states in her argument, Between 1689 and 1700 the citizens complained of symptoms that included fits, spectral visions, mental distraction , pinching ... • 50. Amusing Ourselves For Death By Neil Postman In the second part of Neil Postman s book, Amusing Ourselves to Death, the author examines the medium of education in order to exhibit how it has affected and fashioned modern public discourse. Postman uses a two part argument on the topic of the influence that television has over education. In order to properly demonstrate the authors view and evidence on this subject of discourse, as well as my own, I will explore how television presents education as well as how exactly television has managed to alter education when it is faced outside of television. Postman believes that when the discourse of education is presented on television, its only purpose is to entertain. Education on television is believed to teach youth in a way that they will embrace with open arms due to their prior understanding to television. To further expand on his own viewpoint, Postman makes the claim that television is a curriculum. The author defines a curriculum to be a specifically constructed information system whose purpose is to influence, teach, train or cultivate the mind and character of youth (146). The author makes the claim that rather than achieving its aim to teach and train youth in a more colorful fashion, it instead only draws the young viewer to love the images that are being shown through a screen. The author proposes that television has three separate commandments that make up the values of education. Postman introduces the first commandment, thou shalt have no prerequisites, ... • 52. The Civil Rights Of The Grass Roots Level Dr. Martin... As discussed previously, JFK started awareness for Civil Rights, his actions in Birmingham, coupled with the media coverage; however, it was LBJ s ability to use his connections in congress to pass laws that changed the face of voting and civil right throughout the United States. As far as the leadership at the Grass roots level Dr. Martin Luther King is the most famous, due to the nonviolent protests and boycotts; however Rosa Parks, Aurelia Browder, and Louise Keys, were the catalysis for the grass roots movement. Although not much is mentioned of these individuals. President s Eisenhower, JFK and LBJ along with the sitting justices on the Supreme Court share credit on the national level. Firstly the Presidents by supporting Supreme Court decisions, calling congress to pass laws, and taking action when States clearly chose to disregard the law, and the Courts by applying the intent of the Constitution and declaring laws unjust while supporting unpopular laws because the met the intent of the Constitution. I don t believe that one person alone mattered the most, the nonviolent protest by Dr. Martin Luther King coupled by his speech on the steps of the Lincoln memorial were very powerful, but without action by the courts, the leaders in congress and the Presidency. However, the media played a large part in how the American public viewed civil rights, when images of dogs attacking nonviolent protesters, people beaten and killed because of color changes the view of right and ...
