This document discusses working with layers in Photoshop, including arranging layers, changing layer visibility, editing layer contents, changing layer order and size, adding new layers and images, adjusting layer properties like opacity, and using adjustment layers to modify images non-destructively. Key layer functions covered are hiding/showing layers, selecting layers for editing, and rearranging the layer stack. Adjustment layers and tools for brightness, color, hue and saturation are also summarized.

3. Layer arrangement an visibility
Layers are arranged in a stack in the Layers panel wherein you can rearrange its
visibility according to what it stacks over with.
If the layers panel is not visible, choose Window > Layers
In the Layers panel, click the eye icon to the left of a layer to hide its content.
Click again in the same spot to reveal the content. This is a useful way to
remind yourself what’s on a particular layer.

4. Editing layers
A layer must be selected to make changes to it. In the layers panel, click once to the right of a layer name to select
that layer. In this example, Image Layer is selected and a white line is painted over, and as soon as we unhide Image
Layer 2, we see that Image Layer is hidden behind Image Layer 2 with the white line with it.

5. Layer order
Drag a layer up or down in the Layers panel to change the order of layered objects in the image.

6. Create a new Layer | Delete Layer
Click the Create a New Layer icon at the bottom of the layers panel to
make a new layer. This layer is transparent until something is added to it.
To Delete a Layer, select the layer you want to be deleted and then
press the Delete Layer icon or backspace (Windows) / Delete (MAC)

7. Renaming a Layer
To Rename a Layer, double-click the layer name and type new name for
the layer. Press Enter (Windows) or Return (MAC).

8. Layer Opacity
To change a layer’s opacity, select a layer in
the Layers panel and click the Opacity slider
which will enable you drag the Opacity of
the layer.

9. Resize layers
To Resize a Layer, select one or more layers and then chose Edit >
Free Transform.

10. Resize Layer 2
A transform border will appear surrounding the layers you have selected. Hold the Shift Key to avoid distorting
the content, and drag the corners or edges until it is the desired size. Click the check mark in the options bar or
press Enter (Windows) / Return (MAC).

11. Add images to a design
To add images to your design. Choose File > Place
embedded and select your file to add to the design.

12. Add images to design
Hold the shift key to avoid distorting the
image, and drag the corners of the
image border to resize the added image.
Click the check mark in the options bar
to finalize the placement. This
automatically creates a new layer
containing the added image.

13. Unlock the Background layer
Because the Background
layer is locked, it can’t be
moved in the Document
window or rearranged in
the Layers panel, and some
editing functions won’t
work on it.
To change the Background
layer into a regular layer,
click he lock icon to the right
of the layer name in the
Layers panel.

14. Adjust Brightness and contrast
Select Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast. Adjust the Brightness slider to change the overall brightness of the
image. Adjust the Contrast slider to increase or decrease image contrast. The adjustments will appear only on the selected
layer.

15. Adjust color Vibrance
Select Image > Adjustments > Vibrance. Experiment by adjusting the sliders. The Vibrance slider affects the intensity of
colors. It has the strongest effect on muted colors in the image. The Saturation slider increases the color intensity of all
colors in the image.

16. Adjust hue and saturation
In the menu bar, select Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation. Experiment by adjusting the Hue, Saturation, and
Lightness sliders. The Saturation slider affects the intensity of colors in an image The Lightness slider affects the
brightness of colorsin an image. To affect only a specific color in these sliders, first go to the drop-down menu at the top
left of the Hue/Saturation dialog box and choose a color range, like Yellows. Then adjust the Hue, Saturation, or
Lightness sliders. These changes will only affect the selected color range, wherever the color appears in the image.

17. Add an adjustment layer
Adjustment layers give you an additional editing flexibility. They allow you to re-edit image adjustments
you’ve made, and protect your original image from direct charges.

18. Add an adjustment layer
In this image, the Black & White adjustment layer was selected. Selecting an adjustment layer automatically
opens the Properties panel that allows you to adjust the sliders until you are satisfied.
