• Podcasts based in being in the idea of family material are mainly based upon
being all about text/talking and the idea off having kind of like background
music playing. But it tends to be the idea off being more formal sound but it can
change to being dramatic suddenly, although majority of the time it stays as
being mainly people talking and sometimes use of jingles/music effects . In this
particular one it uses the idea of an enthusiastic jingle at the start which kind of
welcomes people into it and draws people into listening to the podcast, given
with the sense from the warm and welcoming opening jingle.

• In this podcast, it is all based upon the fact of being based around speech and
doesn't tend to include any jingles/music features as the podcasts is based upon
being around very factual and so it doesn’t tend to include any sound features in
it as that would tend to draw the people from listening to what people are
saying to more trying to listen out for any sound effects included. Therefore as
there not being any sound effects/music/jingles included in this podcast after a
while of listening to it, it stats to get boring and will tend to drift from and stop
listening to it. However it does make use of voice overs and there hasn’t been
made any attempt to discrete the fact that they are voice overs and as a result it
is quite obvious that it is a voice over, which included speech that needed to be
include that the interviewer had forgotten to say. In my opinion personally I
don’t really see it in any way that this interests the audience, as it doesn't
include any jingles/ideas of music features included throughout the podcast. The
main audience that this podcast would appeal to is the audience that are
interested in factual things that educate and inform or people who are interested
in finding out about peoples family's history.

• This final existing example is based upon being around the idea of people talking
about family trees and people talking about there family's and the hosts give
advice on there issues and give them like hints on what they could do which
could lead them to finding out more about their family heritage/tree. The
podcast is in fact called ‘Tracing your roots’. It is all based on people talking
which is quite draining as it doesn't include any jingles/music, but although it is
based on being around speech and people talking, many different people are
talking, which gives an immediate presence of voice change, this in some way
keeps it from getting boring, for some people, as its not the same person talking,
it alternates between 3/4 people.
• This appeals to its audience because the audience who would listen to something
like this would tend to be interested in peoples family history and there issues, in
which case this would appeal to them because in this podcast this is what they
talk about, which would interest this type of audience deeply.

Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched
products have?
– From the products that I have researched they have some features in
common and they all obviously have one feature that is common in them
and that is that they are all the same style of podcasts which is being more
of the style of factual/family discussion related. Another feature that is
included in this is the use of voice overs included in the podcasts which is
used mainly more In the second example.
• What aspects of the research will you include
within your on work? from my research I will be including the
idea of voice overs for the purpose In case that something is missed out that I
was mean too say or that someone else was meant to say. I will obviously be
including the idea of including music/sound effects but obviously a lot more, as
there is hardly any in the existing podcasts. So when it comes to my actual
podcast I want to be able to add more jingles/music.

Editor's Notes

  1. Choose a product similar to your own and discuss it Use of audio- what do they include and to what effect- sound effects, music, voice over. Content of voice over- what do they talk about, language used (formal/informal), etc Audience appeal- how does it make its audience want to buy/watch/play it?
