Process of Eliminating Urine
Science V
What are the structure and functions of
the following parts:
a. Ureter d. Bladder
b. Nephron e. Urethra
c. Glomerulus f. Kidney
Review
1. Do most people have two (2) kidneys?
2. Can a person live normally with only
one kidney?
3. What is the function of the kidney?
4. What part of the urinary system stores
urine?
Checking of Assignment
How often do you urinate?
What do you think makes you feel
urinating?
Does it do something good for your body?

Urine Formation
by
Alejandra Cork
Concept Formation
The formation of urine by the nephrons
takes place in two stages: filtration and
reabsorption.
In filtration, substances pass from the
blood into the nephrons.
In reabsorption, substances pass out of
the nephron and back into the blood.
Concept Formation
Filtration and Reabsorption
Motivation
Filtration occurs
while the blood is
flowing through the
glomerulus within
Bowman’s capsule.
The fluid in Bowman’s capsule is called
filtrate and it passes into the tubules of the
nephrons.
Motivation
Reabsorption occurs
in the tubular parts
of the nephron
where water and
solutes move across
the tubular wall out of the nephron by
diffusion and into the surrounding
capillaries.
Motivation
Secretion moves
substances from
capillaries to the
nephron walls.
Capillaries secrete
excess amounts of hydrogen and
potassium ions into the nephron tubules.
Concept Formation
The renal pelvis sends the fluid
remaining in the nephrons consisting
mostly of water, urea, and various salts,
now known collectively as urine, away
from the kidney via the ureter, then into
the urinary bladder. This urinary bladder
sends nerve impulses to the brain when
full. From here, urine is eliminated through
the urethra and out of the body.
Application
Explain
through the
diagram
the three
processes
involved in
urine
formation.
Evaluation
Number the process of eliminating from 1-5.
__ Capillaries secrete excess amounts of
hydrogen and potassium
__ The blood containing wastes enters the
kidney via renal artery
__ From the bladder, the urine is eliminated
through the urethra
__ Urinary bladder expands and sends nerve
impulses to the brain when full
__ Reabsorption occurs in the tubular parts of
the nephron
Evaluation
Number the process of eliminating from 1-5.
3 Capillaries secrete excess amounts of
hydrogen and potassium
1 The blood containing wastes enters the
kidney via renal artery
5 From the bladder, the urine is eliminated
through the urethra
4 Urinary bladder expands and sends nerve
impulses to the brain when full
2 Reabsorption occurs in the tubular parts of
the nephron
Assignment
1. Ask your mother or a doctor or a nurse,
why most children urinate more often on
cold days than on warm days?
2. Drink eight (8) glasses of water before-''
going to bed. Observe and count how
many times you urinated during the night.

1st science 20 process of eliminating urine

  • 1. Process of Eliminating Urine Science V
  • 2. What are the structure and functions of the following parts: a. Ureter d. Bladder b. Nephron e. Urethra c. Glomerulus f. Kidney Review
  • 3. 1. Do most people have two (2) kidneys? 2. Can a person live normally with only one kidney? 3. What is the function of the kidney? 4. What part of the urinary system stores urine? Checking of Assignment
  • 4. How often do you urinate? What do you think makes you feel urinating? Does it do something good for your body? Motivation
  • 5. Presentation Watch the Video Clip Urine Formation by Alejandra Cork
  • 6. Concept Formation The formation of urine by the nephrons takes place in two stages: filtration and reabsorption. In filtration, substances pass from the blood into the nephrons. In reabsorption, substances pass out of the nephron and back into the blood.
  • 8. Motivation Filtration occurs while the blood is flowing through the glomerulus within Bowman’s capsule. The fluid in Bowman’s capsule is called filtrate and it passes into the tubules of the nephrons.
  • 9. Motivation Reabsorption occurs in the tubular parts of the nephron where water and solutes move across the tubular wall out of the nephron by diffusion and into the surrounding capillaries.
  • 10. Motivation Secretion moves substances from capillaries to the nephron walls. Capillaries secrete excess amounts of hydrogen and potassium ions into the nephron tubules.
  • 11. Concept Formation The renal pelvis sends the fluid remaining in the nephrons consisting mostly of water, urea, and various salts, now known collectively as urine, away from the kidney via the ureter, then into the urinary bladder. This urinary bladder sends nerve impulses to the brain when full. From here, urine is eliminated through the urethra and out of the body.
  • 13. Evaluation Number the process of eliminating from 1-5. __ Capillaries secrete excess amounts of hydrogen and potassium __ The blood containing wastes enters the kidney via renal artery __ From the bladder, the urine is eliminated through the urethra __ Urinary bladder expands and sends nerve impulses to the brain when full __ Reabsorption occurs in the tubular parts of the nephron
  • 14. Evaluation Number the process of eliminating from 1-5. 3 Capillaries secrete excess amounts of hydrogen and potassium 1 The blood containing wastes enters the kidney via renal artery 5 From the bladder, the urine is eliminated through the urethra 4 Urinary bladder expands and sends nerve impulses to the brain when full 2 Reabsorption occurs in the tubular parts of the nephron
  • 15. Assignment 1. Ask your mother or a doctor or a nurse, why most children urinate more often on cold days than on warm days? 2. Drink eight (8) glasses of water before-'' going to bed. Observe and count how many times you urinated during the night.
