How one unit of electricity saved equals to two units of Electricity generated because of the losses incurred during Power generation and distribution.
2. Essity Internal
• The power generated at power plant is
being transmitted to industries over
wide network.
• The standard technical losses are
around 17 % in India.(Efficiency : 83 %)
and it varies from state to state in
between 17-50 %.
• All these may not constitute only
technical losses , since unmetered and
pilferage are also accounted in this loss.
3. Essity Internal
• When power reaches the industry, it
meets the transformer which is
having very high energy efficiency i.e.
99.5 %.
• Now through internal plant
distribution network the power
reaches to Motors.
• A typical distribution network
efficiency including transformers is
95 %
• We generally consider motor
efficiency as 90 % .
4. Essity Internal
• Motors drive the pumps through
mechanical coupling. The overall
losses in mechanical systems
including pump , coupling , Flow
control valve throttling etc. are 30 %
( Efficiency : 70 % )
• Thus, The overall efficiency becomes
50% starting from the power
generation to the end user. ( 0.87 x
0.95 x 0.90 x 0.70 ~ 50%)
• It is clear from the above that 02
units generated at the power house,
the end user will get only 01 unit.
5. Essity Internal
• Similarly, 01 unit saved at the end
user is equivalent to 02 units
generated at the power house.
• Hence, Lets make a habit to save
energy for our future generations.
