Identity In Odd Places
Identity in odd places Identity is the idiosyncrasies, backgrounds, and character traits that separate
people from one another. Self discipline and mental toughness are just two of the many characteristics
I ve had to develop throughout my life success in school, sports, and life in general rely greatly on
these traits. I always hated driving to my Grandmas but this one trip tested my abilities greatly. From
preparing for, committing, and carrying out the road trip, I was tested every step of the journey.
Getting prepared for the road trip was almost as painful as the car ride itself. I considered preparing
the car for a trip equivalent to preparing for a ride in an electric chair. Except instead of preparing for a
quick execution, I was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would put in headphones and listen to music or work on homework while I still had the energy. I
would always drink at least one entire Gatorade bottle within ten minutes of the trip but this time I was
extra thirsty and had two regular sized Gatorades and a water, and like clockwork my mom looked at
me disgusted like I just ate a booger and said, Why did you do that? You are going to have to pee 5
miles down the road! I m not stopping for at least fifty so you ll just have to pee yourself . After that I
didn t pay attention to anything outside the car because for the first fifty to one hundred miles I saw
repetitions of old memories. The boring scenery and lack of sleep took its toll on me after about an
hour where each minute that passed by was like a punch from Mike Tyson making my sight fade
closer to darkness with each swing. I have never lasted an entire car trip without falling asleep in the
first leg of the trip in my life. Even if I had got plenty of sleep the night before, the first leg would
inevitably knock me out. One thing that I liked, even though it is also part of the reason I fell asleep, is
that during the first hour of driving I got to see the interesting change in scenery from my suburban
town with huge houses and crystal blue lakes that sparkle as I go by. Then it slowly faded into one
office building and then another and another until a city erupted from the ground around me and I had
seen the city lights and people of all different races, cultures, and backgrounds go by. As quickly as it
started, it faded back away into the distance behind me and the beautiful lush wooded areas that are so
common in the north unfolded around me until all I could see were giant trees around me and a road
that doesn t seem to end ahead of me. I had been really interested into the sights and I had loved
drawing when I was younger. I had a nice notebook just for drawing and I really wanted

Marshmallow Test
According to the article, What Leads to Success in Life written by Jocelyn K. Giel, there are three
types of attributes that she states lead to a prosperous lifestyle. Using research produced by Walter
Mischel, a Stanford Psychologist, and other scientists, the first quality that she lists is self control, or
the ability to make decisions along with resisting worldly temptations. The next characteristics,
passion and perseverance, are traits that Giel uses of research conducted by Angela Duckworth, a
Harvard researcher, and Duckworth integrated these two attributes and labels them as grit . Grit,
according to Duckworth, is the tendency to not abandon tasks as well as not looking for a change , and
she draws this statement from personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scientists conducted the test to observe the concept of delayed gratification of four year old children.
The results concluded that children who were able to resist eating a marshmallow, or treat, for fifteen
whole minutes were the ones who led better lives that were more behaved, less prone to addiction, and
scored higher on the SAT when re examined during their high school years. While the Giel s article
did not provide details concerning the children s upbringing or childhood, it provides a connection to
the children who possessed self control and consequently, how their lives are influenced by it.
However, Giel expresses later in the article that self control is not the only factor of success and then
introduces the two traits described by Duckworth as passion and perseverance, or grit. Duckworth
arrived at this conclusion after carefully studying psychologist Catherine Morris Cox s findings on
world recognized geniuses such as Albert Einstein and Leonardo Da Vinci. If these people, who are
prodigies in their respective fields, all possess these similar attributes, then logic may follow that these
qualities may indeed be the key to

Rhetorical Analysis Of We Shall Overcome By Lyndon Baines...
The Rhetorical Analysis Of We Shall Overcome The speech We Shall Overcome delivered by Lyndon
Baines Johnson on 15 March 1965, Washington, D.C. The theme of the speech is to call on that every
American citizen must have an equal right to vote. He wanted to pass a bill to end the situation that
many states had been used to deny Negroes the right to vote. The purpose of which is to persuade
Members of Congress to pass the bill which came up by himself. At that time, although the slavery
system had been destroyed, Negroes also did not own equal right as well as white people. The author
Lyndon Baines Johnson was (August 27, 1908 January 22, 1973), who was the 36th President of the

Human being are not cold blooded animal and nobody is definitely indifferent. Therefore, authors
always write down words to arouse readers enthusiasm or fervor gradually. Pathos work as the same
way, which let readers get moved by emotion weapon. We can find many pathos devices in this well
known speech. The real hero of this struggle is the American Negro. His actions and protests, his
courage to risk safety and even to risk his life, have awakened the conscience of this nation. His
demonstrations have been designed to call attention to injustice, designed to provoke change, designed
to stir reform. He has called upon us to make good the promise of America. And who among us can
say that we would have made the same progress were it not for his persistent bravery, and his faith in
American democracy. From these great words, Johnson described the American Negro as a hero, who
had awakened the conscience of this nation. There is no doubt that many people were neutral in this
case. However, after that speech, after being persuaded by their president, they might turn to agree
with their president. Some of them might give up their prejudices to Negroes. They would recall many
Negroes who were used to live with them were also kind and gave their hands sometimes. Pathos
work in that way. Authors utilize pathos to tough readers and audiences, like what I have mentioned,
everyone has the milk of human kindness. Take text for example again, This great, rich, restless
country can offer opportunity and education and hope to all, all black and white, all North and South,
sharecropper and city dweller. These are the enemies: poverty, ignorance, disease. These impressed
words reminded all the people of that USA belonged to everyone. They should be unity to stop
poverty, ignorance, disease not discriminate not our fellow man, not our neighbor. This pathos

What Is The Cardiovascular System
The cardiovascular system is the system of the body which includes the circulatory system and your
heart. This system has three functions. Its first is transportation where it is responsible for pumping
blood to the organs, tissues, and cells of your body in order to transport a proper amount of oxygen
and nutrients to every cell as well as remove the carbon dioxide and waste products made by some
cells. This is done by using one of the strongest muscles and the hardest working organ in the body the
heart. Blood is pumped through this organ into the major blood vessels located at the base of the heart.
The major vessels include the vena cava, aorta, pulmonary trunk, and the pulmonary veins. Although
the heart is no bigger than the average

Effective Crime Management
Management of Crime 12
The Management of Crime can only be Effective
When the Wider Police Family is Utilized
Introduction
Crime is a complicated study that police forces have engaged in more in recent decades to determine
the best methods for managing its occurrence. Methods of management run the gamut from old
fashioned relational policing in which the officer gets to know a certain group of people intimately by
walking a prescribed route through neighborhoods, to the much more modern idea of containing crime
by using different technological and scientific methods. The main issue with the different modes of
crime management is that they are all effective to a certain degree, but it is difficult to determine to
what extent. There have been studies conducted to see what is the most effective means of minimizing
crime, but the general finding is that it is largely dependent on time and location. No one method has
been gauged to be completely successful, so it is difficult to know which one to use. A premise, one
that is given away by the title to this paper, is that only by using the wider police family can crime be
effectively managed. This does not mean that crime has to be contained using a family hierarchical
model, but that every member and department of a police force must be utilized correctly. This may
also seem to be a shotgun approach to policing, but it is far from it. A scientific method is employed to
make sure that every officer is used in the

Band T-Shirt Disruptions
Most teenage boys and girls love showing what the like by how they act and how they dress. For Ben,
he wore different types of band t shirts. However, due to the recent changes of the Hamilton Middle
School rules performed by Principal Carter, Ben wore his band tee and soon after got suspended.
Principal Carter set a rule on banning all band tees, saying that they were causing arguments and
distracting kids from their education. According to the rule, Carter may not make a rule against the t
shirts unless there is good evidence that they actually cause a disruption in and between classes.
Therefore, Ben should not be suspended due to the fact that his shirt caused no disruption.
First of all, band t shirts have not caused any disruptions

Mission Statement And Objectives And Intentions Of A Business
Mission Statement The mission statement displays the purpose of a company in the market. It also
serves as reference for the objectives and intentions of a business. According to Kokemuller (n.d), A
mission statement offers insight into what company leaders view as the primary purpose for being in
business. Some companies have profit motivated missions, while others make customers a focal point
(para. 2). This paper will provide the mission statement developed for my chosen organization. The
developed mission statement is based on a careful analysis of therapeutic benefits that consumers
demand to improve their health and wellness. Also, this paper analyses existing and anticipated
environment conditions that can influence the success or the general operations of this service. Finally,
based on the previous analysis a solid mission statement is provided.

1. The Annexation of Texas created a domino effect by being the first to amend the ideals of the
manifest destiny. The Annexation of Texas was a voluntarily act made by the southern settlers of the
Republic of Texas, setting an example. After the battle of San Jacinto, Sam Houston became the
southerner s leader, leading them to become the 28th state under the American government.
2. The ideals of the Annexation of Texas were greater than the Mexican Cession. The Annexation of

For the option ignoring the behavior, the mean pre training rating was 2.5, as compared to a mean post
training rating of 2.2, a statistically significant change at p lt;0.001.
For the option discussing with a co worker, the mean pre training rating was 3.4, as compared to a
mean post training rating of 3.6, a statistically significant change at p lt;.05. 3. Using the Kirkpatrick
Evaluation Model did the training achieve the desired results? Why or why not?
Results from the case study information indicate that the Sexual Harassment Prevention Training
program achieved the goal of increasing the likelihood that attendees would contact a manager and/or
human resources if sexually harassed. The training program also achieved the goal of decreasing the
likelihood that trainees would ignore sexually harassing behavior (Moskowitz, 2008). 4. Where any
unexpected questions raised from this training? If so which questions? If not, why do you think the
results were expected?
Yes. In this case study, or evaluation process, we found that the trainees would rather confront the
harassers face to face as a first line of defense rather than seeking help elsewhere. 5. Which levels of
information were collected and used in the Kirkpatrick Evaluation Model?

The Business Market Or Service Determines Their Revenue,...
The way a business market or service determines their revenue, sustainability, and longevity. In the
past business and entrepreneurs advertised to their customers by going door to door or if they were
financially stable they would pay for an advertisement on television. Unfortunately, advertising door
to door would limit coverage and commercials pricing may start at 500. Therefore, a new venture was
becoming and reaching more customers called data mining. Now all the managers have to do is figure

Predictive analytics is a great way to understand the behavior of customers because the type of
analysis analyzes their past to predict what they will purchase in the future. Business can also predict
how much of an item customers will purchase. Businesses can reduce the price of popular items and
increase customer spending. Cable companies monopolize on predictive analytics when a customer
downgrade, cancel, or purchase new service. When customers are getting new service they may be
asked how they chose this cable company from television advertisement, radio, internet or friend.
When a customer cancels their service they may ask them, why did you cancel your service and what
would help you continue your service. The company can use questions from current and previous
customers to improve their business and provide quality service. If CEO and managers analyze their
customer behavior they can market with improved services from previous complaints which would
bring more customers and raise revenue. A successful marketing team will target the right customers
with the most appealing information concerning their product or service.

Dostoevsky was an Anti-Semite
Dostoevsky was an Anti Semite
Literary anti Semitism is as old as Western culture itself. A full listing of writers who have expressed
hostility toward Jews and/or Judaism from Shakespeare to T.S. Eliot, from Pushkin to Pasternak, etc.
would add up to a Who s Who of Western literature.1 Undoubtedly, Dostoevsky follows in this
tradition.
It is disparaging, however, that as the true novelist of ideas and Christian love, Dostoevsky could
harbor such ill will towards the Jews. Does this not discredit everything he has written? This paper
will address Dostoevsky s anti Semitism through an examination of Isay Fomitch Bumstein in The

In addition to writing Notes from the Underground, and The House of the Dead, Dostoevsky
completes Crime and Punishment, The Idiot and in 1871, he finishes The Devils. In addition, this
decade is marked by personal tragedy, gambling, and debts. Beginning in 1862, Dostoevsky makes the
first of several sojourns to Europe and his prolonged stay (from 1867 1871), no doubt, significantly
influences his belief in the Great Russian Messianism.8
The Russian Messianic idea found its most virulent expression in The Devils, where, in a conversation
with Stavrogin, Shatov states:
Reduce God to the attribute of nationality?...On the contrary, I elevate the nation to God...The people
is the body of God. Every nation is a nation only so long as it has its own particular God, excluding all

The Health System Of The Healthcare It Program Should Be A...
The most important quality an individual should possess to get through the Healthcare IT program
would be a good support system. An individual cannot succeed without a healthy support system.
Without personal support and professional support, an individual would travel a very difficult road to
success. A good personal support system includes support from friends, family, or any individual that
plays a key role within someone s personal life. Work support includes a company that is willing to
support and provide help with educational needs such as tuition reimbursement and other incentives. A
manger that merits the decision to stay in school and the benefits associated with staying and
completing the said degree. Co workers that keep the individual on track and provide guidance are
very important in a work related support system. Developing and maintaining a personal and work
support system should go hand in hand. Just having one and not the other would still prove
challenging for any individual to stay on track and complete the program.
(A2). An initial concept or idea that was completely incorrect about the Health Informatics program
that has changed with progression within the program is the difficulty and time demands of the
program. The Health Informatics program is very time demanding and can be very difficult at times if
not enough time is spent immersed in every class and course. An individual can work at his or her

Lab Report On Ascorbic Acid
Introduction
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is an essential nutrient used for the creation of certain biological compounds
and is naturally found in citrus fruits. 1 Ascorbic acid has a chemical formula of C¬¬6H8O6 and
reacts with Iodine to cause the reaction:2 C6H8O6(aq) + I2(aq) C6H6O6aq) +2I¬ (aq) + 2H+
To determine the amount of vitamin C an amount of KIO3 solution with a known concentration had it
s iodine freed with the chemicals KI and H2S04, this allowed the iodine to react with the dissolved
vitamin C tablet. This was then titrated against a primary standard of sodium thiosulfate at a
concentration of 0.01102*10 5¬¬M. These chemicals cause the following reactions3:
KIO3(aq) + 5KI(aq) +3H2SO¬4(aq) 3I2(aq) + 3K2SO4(aq) + 3H2O(l)
2Na2S2O3(aq) + I2(aq) 2NaI(aq) + Na2S4O6(aq)
Since the volume of KIO3 solution and so is the molarity we can determine the amount of KIO3
solution that was freed. We can then compare that to the amount of primary standard used to
determine the amount of Ascorbic acid in the solution.
Procedure
The procedure given in the First Year Chemistry Lab Manual for Experiment G4 was followed with
the modifications below.
Instead of using a 500mL volumetric flask a 1L volumetric flask was used. This made calculations that
required Liters (L) easier as the numbers could be carried without doing any math. This also made the
experiment more accurate. Even though the absolute uncertainty increased so did the volume of the

Essay Feminism and the Shakespeare s Works
Feminism and the Shakespeare s Works
By examining Shakespeare s treatment of familial ties in his plays The Life and Death of King John
and The Winter s Tale, we can see how his attitudes and opinions towards family relationships
evolved. In King John (written between 1594 and 1596), Shakespeare adopts what was then a fairly
conventional attitude towards family relationships: his characters never question the highly patriarchal
family hierarchy. They also assume that the majority of wives will be unfaithful, simply because they
are female however, they take the charge of adultery rather lightly. By contrast, in The Winter s Tale
(written between 1610 and 1611), he adopts a much more progressive, feminist view of family ...

Their conversation disturbingly resembles a sinner s confession to her priest. She tells Robert, Heaven
lay not my transgression to my charge! (1.1.256). He replies by assuring her, And they shall say, when
Richard me begot,/ If thou hadst said him nay, it had been sin./ Who says it was, he lies; I say twas not
(1.1.274 76). This obviously highlights the power differential between the Lady and her son.
The most vivid example of King John s patriarchalism is found in the character of John s niece
Blanche. Her entire life rests on the men in it, namely, King John and Lewis the Dauphin. King John
marries her to the Dauphin, because, as Eleanor advises him, For by this knot thou shalt so surely tie
Thy now unsured assurance to the crown
That yon green boy shall have no sun to ripe
The bloom that promiseth a mighty fruit (2.1.471 474).
After Blanche s marriage, Lewis uses her claim to the throne as the fault was hers / Which fault lies on
the hazards of all husbands/ That marry wives (1.1.118 20). No one contradicts either of them.
Additionally, when Constance and Queen Eleanor begin to argue, they accuse each other of infidelity
and call each other s sons bastards. All of this shows that in King John, women were assumed to be
less faithful than men.
Despite the fact that wives adultery undermines the entire family structure by calling a man s heir s

Benefits And Backlashes Of High Stakes Testing
The Benefits and Backlashes of High Stakes Testing
What if the determining factor of whether or not you would be successful or a failure in life was solely
based on the results of one test. Regardless of all the progress you have accomplished over your life, it
all comes down to this big moment, the big test! That is the reality many students face annually due to
high stakes testing. High stakes testing is the use of a summative test or an assessment to make
decisions that are of prominent educational, financial, or social impact (Kubiszyn Borich, 2013).
Decisions such as graduation/grade promotion, school/state funding, or even job placement or
termination.
Many critics of high stakes testing believe that these test cause teachers to teach to the test. Pedulla,
Abrams, Madaus, Russell, Ramos, and Miao (as cited in Madaus Russell, 2010) found in a national
survey that 80 percent of teachers admitted to increasing time spent on subjects that are tested on.
These critics also believe that test scores increase as a result of placing sole focus on the test and
revolving curriculum and instruction around the specific high stakes test of that school. I do not agree
completely agree with the statement that test scores increase as a result of teachers teaching to the test.
It is unfair to say that since the vast majority of teachers are teaching to the test, that all other teachers
are also doing the same. Sometimes increased test scores are a direct result of the hard work of

Difference Between Medieval Art And Renaissance Art
Many things changed from Medieval Times to the Renaissance. The catholic church saw it s reign
secede and individualism increase in the minds of the people of the time. Because of this, people in
the Renaissance now looked at themselves in a way that was never seen before. Slowly but surely, the
whole world changed. The rise in individualism and humanism signified a change in the way people
thought about their purpose in life. In the Medieval Times, people believed that they were at the mercy
of God, and they had no control over their own bodies or lives. From the change in Medieval Times to
the Renaissance, whole fields were changed, especially art and the medical field, because of the rise of
the individual and that way of life. Art in the Medieval Times was dreary and bland. Many works of
art were solely about God or holy figures. The most obvious change from the Renaissance to Medieval
Times was the arts, according to Document A and also that One begins to know the names of the
artists ... feel stronger emotions in the subjects . This shows that Renaissance art not only changed in
style, in changed in how it made the viewer feel when seeing the art. Similarly, in Document A,
Renaissance art is described as new artistic styles would echo the broader movements and interests of
the new age.... . As compared to Medieval Times, the style of art became something similar to the time
that people could relate to. In the Medieval Times, art was just meant to extol God s many feats.
People who viewed the painting were supposed to put that style of art on a pedestal. Medieval art was
supposed to be worshipped, not so much understood. The individual in the Medieval Times was
supposed to take away from the painting that the only thing that mattered in their life was the Roman
Catholic church and God already had a plan for their lives. But in comparison, Renaissance art was
supposed to empower and help people of the time to understand themselves and the fact that they can
change their own lives. Anatomy of the Medieval Times was incredibly different from anatomy of the
Renaissance. According to the diagram in Document D, anatomy was controlled by the zodiac, twelve

Wheatley is trying to subversively express that the Lord will be gracious enough to deliver the slaves
from the dark abodes , or bad treatment as he did the Egyptians in biblical times. Throughout the first
stanza of the poem, Phyllis Wheatley challenges the reader s morals by referencing the bible right off
the bat.
Wheatley continues with her double meaning subversive language and tells her readers to, scan the
heights
Above, to traverse the ethereal space,
And mark the systems of revolving worlds.
She is telling her readers to use their imaginations and be able to think past what is going on in the
world. When Wheatley uses the words ethereal space , it makes the readers think of an unearthly place
that allows them to mark or mock the systems of revolving worlds which allows them to shun the
systems that goes on in their world such as slavery and be able to think of other ways of living such as
not being enslaved.
As the poem progresses, Wheatley describes the gospel to her readers which includes the good news
about salvation. She

The Characteristics Of Characters In Homer s The Iliad
To begin with, to work in common means to work together within a community or to not live in
isolation, as opposed to living without any desire or requirement of other people. Consequently, it is
someone whom relies only on their own wits without an oath or pledge into partnership with or to
anyone outside of themselves. Aristotle makes the simile of this type of person to a beast or god, as
neither requires approval from any person, to describe someone that lives a life in this way. In Homer
s book The Iliad Achilles appears to portray this description.
A characteristic to point out is that Achilles fought in battle given that he enjoyed fighting. He did not
fight for a nation or for a king. He fought for his own personal reason and that was for the exhilaration
he felt whilst conquering any opponent in a battle. Achilles is adamant and he avows he has no motive
to fight the Trojans given that they have done nothing to offend him that warrants his wrath (Puchner,
et al. 193).
(Puchner, et al. 183) mentions that Achilles rage sets him apart from the rest of humanity which for
him consisted of the Greeks. However, first, he raged against the Trojans and in turn against
Agamemnon; thus, raging inadvertently against the Greeks. In his contempt for Agamemnon, Achilles
stated publicly to him, You shameless, profiteering excuse for a commander! How are you going to get
any Greek warrior to follow you into battle again? later on, he reinforced his feelings for Agamemnon
s motives, for all to hear, as to why he brought on the attacks toward the Trojans by saying, It s for
you, dogface, for your precious pleasure and Menelaus honor that we came here, a fact you don t have
the decency even to mention! (Puchner, et al. 193). Pallas Athena intervened Achille s murderous
thoughts and convinced him to not strike out at Agamemnon, which resulted in him bursting out, You
bloated drunk, with a dog s eyes and a rabbit s heart! You ve never had the guts to buckle on armor in
battle or come out with the best fighting Greeks on any campaign! Afraid to look Death in the eye,
Agamemnon? It s far more profitable to hang back in the army s rear isn t it? Confiscating prizes from
any Greek who

Giambologn Art Analysis
Our first piece of art, on the left, is titled Rape of a Sabine by Giambologna in 1583. This is a three
dimensional sculpture that has many curves and points of view. You can circle around this sculpture
and find aspects of it you couldn t visualize at one point. The faces of the sculptured men and woman
have a look of despair, sorrow, and misery that create for a very dramatic piece. Rape of the Sabine
tells a story of roman men seizing Sabine women to marry them in order for the city of Rome to grow
and become more powerful than it was. Our second artwork it named Nude Descending a Staircase by
Marcel Duchamp in 1912. This style of work is called Futurism and honors movement and contempt

Mercutio Weaknesses
An anonymous source once said that everything comes at a price. Everybody has strengths and
weaknesses. Make use of your strengths and eliminate your weaknesses so they do not bother you.
The characters in the play of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare use their strengths to their
advantage but also cause trouble with their weaknesses. Throughout the play, Shakespeare indirectly
characterizes Romeo, Juliet, and Mercutio through their actions. Therefore, Shakespeare creates
multidimensional characters that have both strengths and weaknesses.
One of the most important characters, Romeo, has many strengths and weaknesses. One of his
weaknesses is his impulsiveness, while one of his strengths is being romantic. One example that

For example, in act three, Tybalt shows his aggression when he kills Romeo s best friend, Mercutio.
Romeo tries to break up the fight. Tybalt reaches under Romeo s arm and stabs Mercutio (Shakespeare
3.5.FINISH). Tybalt was upset that Romeo was at the Capulet s party and wanted to get revenge on
Romeo but Mercutio got in the way. Because Tybalt is aggressive and could not forget about Romeo s
appearance at the Capulet s party, he strives for a fight and kills Mercutio. Although Mercutio is
aggressive, he is also loyal. Tybalt s loyalty is an example of indirect characterization because it is not
directly stated. Tybalt is loyal beyond words and honors the family rivalry of the Capulets and the
Montagues. For example, in act one, Romeo comes to the Capulet s party and Tybalt is upset about his
arrival. Tybalt believes that Romeo arrived to mock their party. Uncle, this is a Montague, our foe,/ A
villain that is hither come in spite/ To scorn at our solemnity this night (Shakespeare 1.5.FINISH).

Whole Foods Market ( Wfm ) Essay
Whole Foods Market (WFM) is a leading natural and organic food supermarket founded in Austin,
Texas by four local business people: John Mackey and Renee Lawson Hardy, owners of Safer Way
Natural Foods, and Craig Weller and Mark Skiles, owners of Clarksville Natural Grocery. WFM
opened its first store in 1980, they staffed their first store with only 19 workers, the store was an
immediate success partly because at the time there were less than half a dozen organic stores in the
entire country. The original WFM store opened on September in 1980 after Safer Way and Clarksville
Natural Foods partnered, the 10,500 square feet location was quite larger than the standard health food
store of the 80 s. The business had its first hiccup a year after they opened their doors, their entire
inventory was lost and most of the equipment was damaged by a historic flood that devastated the city
of Austin. The owners did not have insurance but they were able to quickly get back on their feet due
to the volunteered help of neighbors and customers as well as the help of creditors, vendors, and
investors who provided breathing room for them. The store reopened just after 28 days of the flood.
The expansion of the business happened quickly in the late 80 s. New locations appeared in Houston
and Dallas, then New Orleans. In 1989, WFM expanded to the West Coast and opened a store in Palo
Alto, CA. WFM started acquiring several different natural foods chains such as Wellspring Grocery of

deforestation and unhealthy soil cause erosion, and the runoff causes frequent flooding and damage
from sedimentation. In a 1997 study done off the coast of Costa Rica, it was discovered that 60
percent of the coral reefs in Cahuita National Park had been severely damaged due to runoff from
coastal banana plantations (Cohen, 2009). Furthermore, bananas are grown as a mono culture, where
all the bananas on a plantation are genetically identical. Although this makes crops easy to manage,
these bananas face an increased risk of being wiped out by a single type of pest, fungi or disease, and
will all be severely attacked if the pests develop resistance to pesticides. In order to prevent this from
happening even more chemicals are used. It is estimated that 30 kilograms of pesticides are used per
hectare per year on a banana plantation, whereas only 2.7 kilograms are used for the average European
cereal crop (Cohen, 2009).
The banana field workers (also called bananeros ), often untrained, and marginalized workers, lack
sufficient precautionary instructions or protective equipments. According to Ivan Clavijos, an ex
conventional banana producer, despite wearing masks, goggles, and gloves, chemical gases can still
get absorbed in the workers clothes, and through sweats will enter the body, blood, and liver via pores
on the skin, producing ammonia in the blood, or can result in loss of sight, hearing, or sterility, which

The Complexity Of Endogenous Ligands For P2YR
Endogenous ligands for P2YR The most abundant and best characterized endogenous ligand for P2YR
is the nucleotide ATP. ATP binds to all P2YRs except P2Y6R and P2Y14R12. Its binding
characteristics exemplify the complexity of P2YR signalling: at low concentrations it is the only
native agonist for P2Y11R, but at higher concentrations it functions as a partial agonist for P2Y1R and
P2Y13R, or as an antagonist for human P2Y4R or P2Y12R11, 12, 15. Other nucleotides, such as ADP,
UTP, UDP or UDP glucose, exhibit more specificity for individual P2YRs. For example, ADP
activates P2Y1R, P2Y12R and P2Y13R, whereas UTP primarily binds to P2Y2R and P2Y4R, and to a
lesser extent to P2Y6R, for which UDP is its preferred native ligand. P2Y14R is ... Show more content

Functional roles of P2YR in unchallenged mice Mice with genetic deletions for human P2YR
homologous genes have been generated and characterized, with the exception of P2RY11, which is not
expressed in mice12. Despite their widespread expression and their functional involvement in many
diseases, mice with global deletions for individual P2YRs display only mild phenotypical alterations
when maintained unchallenged in a germ free environment. For instance, P2ry2−/− mice have slightly
lower plasma concentrations of aldosterone, renin and potassium20, whereas global deletion of P2ry4
is associated with lower exercise capacity and reduced myocardial hypertrophy during a swimming
exercise21. These findings indicate the likelihood of some redundancy in the signalling system, or
compensatory mechanisms following global P2ry gene deletion. P2YR signalling during inflammatory

conversation her interpretation was that I soon would leave the agency. She told me that my, leaving
would, make her very sad. Her face was very distraught. I had to convince her that the end of this
semester and my practicum, would not automatically meant me leaving the agency. Matter of fact I

employs me can have an educational but the negative side is that as a student I do not get to

I believe that there are several weaknesses that could be addressed. As it is now, the policy is that, in
order to become a member, the applicant must have a permanent residency within the County of
Waukesha. He or she must be at least be 18 of age and a diagnosed mental illness, only. Unfortunately
this policy also dictates that there are limitations for potential applicants. Waukesha residency does not
include staying in a local shelter, which is under the current statutes not considered as a permanent
living arrangement. One of the main reason is that by accepting applicants from a shelter would
change the dynamics in such matter that the focus of the program would change and possible endanger
the wellbeing and safety of the current members. Another weak point are secondary disabilities, both
physical and developmentally. Again reason is that the focus of the program would change and
secondly, staff is not trained properly to service members with a developmental disability. Although I
have argued for altering the current policies, management stays strong in their convictions that any
change would harm the program. It would also mean that they have to hire more and qualified staff.
As funds are coming from Transitional Employment (TE SIDES) and payed through vendors like
DVR. There would not be enough money to pay for extra and qualified staff. Members with physical
and developmental disabilities cannot be placed at a TE site thus the program losses money and

Marriage Proposals in Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice Essay
Marriage Proposals in Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice
Romance Versus Security.
It is universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a
wife.
These are the words of Jane Austen, and like many people of her time, she believed very much in the
importance of finding a wealthy husband for young women.
Jane Austen s novel reflects the importance of marriage to many people around 1775. Although events
such as the industrial revolution were sweeping the country, these were ignored and the life of a few
middle class families in a country village were depicted. Marriage at this time was a way of securing a

Bennet and she sees it as imperative that her daughters are married off.
In Pride and Prejudice Elizabeth Bennet receives two proposals of marriage the first from her cousin
the bumbling Mr. Collins. The Bennet family had received a letter prior to his arrival; the impression
put across is that Mr. Collins is long winded and all over a bit of a fool. This letter prepares the family
and the reader for the arrival of a pompous egotist. Mrs. Bennet is excited about his arrival, as it is
clear he is passing on marital business, causing great interest among the sisters and above all Mrs.
Bennet. At the Netherfield ball he makes a complete show of himself as he lacks decorum and
etiquette. His inability to dance is a cause of amusement to the characters and the reader.
The first two dances, however, brought a return of distress; solemn, apologising instead of intending.
He unwittingly introduces himself to Darcy and recieves a cold reception
Whilst joining in the festivities, it becomes clear that Collins greatly admires Lady Catherine De
Bourgh, his groveling adorations add to his foolery. He continues to examine every inch of the house
comparing it directly to Rosings, in a very rude manner.
Just as Collins tedious absurdness reaches its height, Elizabeth begins to fall for Wickham s charms
and stories of hate against Darcy and Collins proposal

The Gospel Of Mark Is A Fast Moving
The Gospel of Mark is a fast moving, succinct, and informative gospel thought to be originally written
by John Mark, using Simon Peter s eye witness accounts. The author seems to place emphasis around
the meaningful events and moments in the life of Jesus Christ, such as his suffering, crucifixion, and
messianic secret. However, the gospel is primarily centered around Jesus teachings, especially honing
in on the beginning of Jesus Ministry. Jesus as a teacher and the discipleship are key factors to the
gospel s proposed message Jesus Christ gave his life in service to the world. Therefore, humans are to
learn from his message and teachings. In Mark 12:38 44, these themes of discipleship, suffering, and
Jesus as a teacher are represented as there is an obvious gap between the affluent scribes offering for
the treasury and the widow s gift of all that she had to live on (NRSV, Mark 12:44). Jesus takes this
opportunity to continue his teaching by summoning his disciples and pointing out the different
contributions to the temple treasury, while making a notable commentary on the social and socio
economic situation that the scribes have created a situation that lead to poverty for the widow. In Mark
12:38 40, Jesus explicitly denounces the scribes as he teaches. He warns the disciples about the
scribes, providing insight into the social threat that they (scribes) bring. He says, Beware of the
scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and to be greeted with

The Role Of Community In African And Middle Eastern...
Literature is defined as, writings in prose or verse; especially : writings having excellence of form or
expression and expressing ideas of permanent or universal interest (Merriam Webster). In both African
and Middle Eastern literature, there is an overlap in theme, motif, and ideas. There is an awareness of
community over oneself present in both forms of literature. The role of women in both societies is
viewed as one of a lesser importance than the male presence. A discrepancy in the similarity between
Middle Eastern and African literature is the presence of a mystical unexplainable presence in African
literature. The presence of community and its role is presented in both African and Middle Eastern
literature. These themes can be seen a variety of times in both pieces of literature. In The Beekeeper s
Journey the idea of inclusivity and community is presented as the author writes, He could not fire a
rifle with accuracy, he could not use a blade with any skill, and he knew nothing about fighting, so he
would die... (The Beekeeper s Journey 8). In this Abbas (The main character of the story) is so
committed to a sense of duty that he is willing to die for his community. Through this connection to
his community, he is knowingly entering a battle with the knowledge that he will die. Thus furthering
the idea of community over oneself in this story and many others that fall into the same genre of
Middle Eastern literature. A piece of African literature that

Keys to Personal Leadership
KEYS TO PERSONAL LEADERSHIP initiative and selfreliance
Mr. Ronay s history encompasses 35 years of leadership as a CEO, consultant, founder, trainer, and
coach in technology, life style, leadership, change management, and disruptive businesses
domestically and internationally. He has devoted much energy to public service and volunteer
organizations. Written for the Aug Austin Software Council newsletter.. June, 2001
The ability to lead is a peculiar combination of human characteristics equal to, if not more important
than the ability to discover, to invent, and to create. Invention results from the experiment with the
unknown; leadership, by contrast, grows out of experience with what is already known. The Austin

No one needs to tell them what time to get up and go to work. If they re in a new situation they take
the initiative to ask. They ask, seek, and knock. People enter a profession without background all the
time and succeed because they practice the leadership quality of self reliance. They take personal
responsibility for developing the necessary skills and knowledge to be a successful leader.
Leaders are aware that when you exercise initiative and self reliance, you live a life with a vision,
purpose and goal direction. Just taking charge can be what leadership is all about a self starter.
Consider the following suggestions for developing initiative and self reliance:
1) Start a written goals program dealing with developing the courage and will to expand your initiative
and self reliance no matter what others think, say or do. Keep it simple, review it daily, track your
progress, and test for results.
2) Write a plan of action about something you want to lead and spend at least 10 minutes every day on
that plan of action and do it for every area of your life. If you do nothing more than just read it every
day. That s an affirmation. It s spaced repetition. It s getting it from your conscious into your
subconscious.
3) Take the action steps that you plan in your plan of action. Great plans and fantastic goals are
worthless unless they exist in actions rather than just on the paper. They must be translated with
initiative into daily activity. All the plans of

Society is defined as people living together within a community that shares customs. Many pioneers
of sociology have conducted research on different areas of this phenomena, however this paper will
focus solely on the view of four sociologists namely; Gerhard Lenski, Karl Marx, Max Weber, and
Emile Durkheim. We begin by reviewing the works of Lenski, where his focus was on how society
have change over the years with technology being the main reason Sociocultural evolution. He
explains with the introduction or adoption of new technology caused society entire way of life to
changes and at a rapid pace. Lenski further went on to discuss into details the different societies and as
there are categorised based on their technology. The first type is Hunting and gathering society, this is
where simple tools such as; knife made of stone, spears, arrows, etc. are used in the acquiring or
resources. Food are usually not sufficient to supply large number of population, therefor people live in
small groups. Age and gender plays a huge role in this society as adult males get the hard work done
(Hunting), adult females do the gathering of vegetation, and the elder and young help as they can.
They mainly focus is to survive, and figure how they are going to get the next meal causing them
usually to wonder from place to place searching for food. Basically, everyone is equal and they all live
the same, except for their spiritual leader who is highly

  • 2. Identity In Odd Places Identity in odd places Identity is the idiosyncrasies, backgrounds, and character traits that separate people from one another. Self discipline and mental toughness are just two of the many characteristics I ve had to develop throughout my life success in school, sports, and life in general rely greatly on these traits. I always hated driving to my Grandmas but this one trip tested my abilities greatly. From preparing for, committing, and carrying out the road trip, I was tested every step of the journey. Getting prepared for the road trip was almost as painful as the car ride itself. I considered preparing the car for a trip equivalent to preparing for a ride in an electric chair. Except instead of preparing for a quick execution, I was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I would put in headphones and listen to music or work on homework while I still had the energy. I would always drink at least one entire Gatorade bottle within ten minutes of the trip but this time I was extra thirsty and had two regular sized Gatorades and a water, and like clockwork my mom looked at me disgusted like I just ate a booger and said, Why did you do that? You are going to have to pee 5 miles down the road! I m not stopping for at least fifty so you ll just have to pee yourself . After that I didn t pay attention to anything outside the car because for the first fifty to one hundred miles I saw repetitions of old memories. The boring scenery and lack of sleep took its toll on me after about an hour where each minute that passed by was like a punch from Mike Tyson making my sight fade closer to darkness with each swing. I have never lasted an entire car trip without falling asleep in the first leg of the trip in my life. Even if I had got plenty of sleep the night before, the first leg would inevitably knock me out. One thing that I liked, even though it is also part of the reason I fell asleep, is that during the first hour of driving I got to see the interesting change in scenery from my suburban town with huge houses and crystal blue lakes that sparkle as I go by. Then it slowly faded into one office building and then another and another until a city erupted from the ground around me and I had seen the city lights and people of all different races, cultures, and backgrounds go by. As quickly as it started, it faded back away into the distance behind me and the beautiful lush wooded areas that are so common in the north unfolded around me until all I could see were giant trees around me and a road that doesn t seem to end ahead of me. I had been really interested into the sights and I had loved drawing when I was younger. I had a nice notebook just for drawing and I really wanted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Marshmallow Test According to the article, What Leads to Success in Life written by Jocelyn K. Giel, there are three types of attributes that she states lead to a prosperous lifestyle. Using research produced by Walter Mischel, a Stanford Psychologist, and other scientists, the first quality that she lists is self control, or the ability to make decisions along with resisting worldly temptations. The next characteristics, passion and perseverance, are traits that Giel uses of research conducted by Angela Duckworth, a Harvard researcher, and Duckworth integrated these two attributes and labels them as grit . Grit, according to Duckworth, is the tendency to not abandon tasks as well as not looking for a change , and she draws this statement from personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scientists conducted the test to observe the concept of delayed gratification of four year old children. The results concluded that children who were able to resist eating a marshmallow, or treat, for fifteen whole minutes were the ones who led better lives that were more behaved, less prone to addiction, and scored higher on the SAT when re examined during their high school years. While the Giel s article did not provide details concerning the children s upbringing or childhood, it provides a connection to the children who possessed self control and consequently, how their lives are influenced by it. However, Giel expresses later in the article that self control is not the only factor of success and then introduces the two traits described by Duckworth as passion and perseverance, or grit. Duckworth arrived at this conclusion after carefully studying psychologist Catherine Morris Cox s findings on world recognized geniuses such as Albert Einstein and Leonardo Da Vinci. If these people, who are prodigies in their respective fields, all possess these similar attributes, then logic may follow that these qualities may indeed be the key to ... • 4. Rhetorical Analysis Of We Shall Overcome By Lyndon Baines... The Rhetorical Analysis Of We Shall Overcome The speech We Shall Overcome delivered by Lyndon Baines Johnson on 15 March 1965, Washington, D.C. The theme of the speech is to call on that every American citizen must have an equal right to vote. He wanted to pass a bill to end the situation that many states had been used to deny Negroes the right to vote. The purpose of which is to persuade Members of Congress to pass the bill which came up by himself. At that time, although the slavery system had been destroyed, Negroes also did not own equal right as well as white people. The author Lyndon Baines Johnson was (August 27, 1908 January 22, 1973), who was the 36th President of the United States from 1963 to 1969. Johnson designed the Great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Human being are not cold blooded animal and nobody is definitely indifferent. Therefore, authors always write down words to arouse readers enthusiasm or fervor gradually. Pathos work as the same way, which let readers get moved by emotion weapon. We can find many pathos devices in this well known speech. The real hero of this struggle is the American Negro. His actions and protests, his courage to risk safety and even to risk his life, have awakened the conscience of this nation. His demonstrations have been designed to call attention to injustice, designed to provoke change, designed to stir reform. He has called upon us to make good the promise of America. And who among us can say that we would have made the same progress were it not for his persistent bravery, and his faith in American democracy. From these great words, Johnson described the American Negro as a hero, who had awakened the conscience of this nation. There is no doubt that many people were neutral in this case. However, after that speech, after being persuaded by their president, they might turn to agree with their president. Some of them might give up their prejudices to Negroes. They would recall many Negroes who were used to live with them were also kind and gave their hands sometimes. Pathos work in that way. Authors utilize pathos to tough readers and audiences, like what I have mentioned, everyone has the milk of human kindness. Take text for example again, This great, rich, restless country can offer opportunity and education and hope to all, all black and white, all North and South, sharecropper and city dweller. These are the enemies: poverty, ignorance, disease. These impressed words reminded all the people of that USA belonged to everyone. Its first is transportation where it is responsible for pumping blood to the organs, tissues, and cells of your body in order to transport a proper amount of oxygen and nutrients to every cell as well as remove the carbon dioxide and waste products made by some cells. This is done by using one of the strongest muscles and the hardest working organ in the body the heart. • 6. Effective Crime Management Management of Crime 12 The Management of Crime can only be Effective When the Wider Police Family is Utilized Introduction Crime is a complicated study that police forces have engaged in more in recent decades to determine the best methods for managing its occurrence. Methods of management run the gamut from old fashioned relational policing in which the officer gets to know a certain group of people intimately by walking a prescribed route through neighborhoods, to the much more modern idea of containing crime by using different technological and scientific methods. The main issue with the different modes of crime management is that they are all effective to a certain degree, but it is difficult to determine to what extent. There have been studies conducted to see what is the most effective means of minimizing crime, but the general finding is that it is largely dependent on time and location. No one method has been gauged to be completely successful, so it is difficult to know which one to use. A premise, one that is given away by the title to this paper, is that only by using the wider police family can crime be effectively managed. This does not mean that crime has to be contained using a family hierarchical model, but that every member and department of a police force must be utilized correctly. This may also seem to be a shotgun approach to policing, but it is far from it. A scientific method is employed to make sure that every officer is used in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. The Health System Of The Healthcare It Program Should Be A... The most important quality an individual should possess to get through the Healthcare IT program would be a good support system. An individual cannot succeed without a healthy support system. Without personal support and professional support, an individual would travel a very difficult road to success. A good personal support system includes support from friends, family, or any individual that plays a key role within someone s personal life. Work support includes a company that is willing to support and provide help with educational needs such as tuition reimbursement and other incentives. A manger that merits the decision to stay in school and the benefits associated with staying and completing the said degree. Co workers that keep the individual on track and provide guidance are very important in a work related support system. Developing and maintaining a personal and work support system should go hand in hand. Just having one and not the other would still prove challenging for any individual to stay on track and complete the program. (A2). An initial concept or idea that was completely incorrect about the Health Informatics program that has changed with progression within the program is the difficulty and time demands of the program. Lab Report On Ascorbic Acid Introduction Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is an essential nutrient used for the creation of certain biological compounds and is naturally found in citrus fruits. 1 Ascorbic acid has a chemical formula of C¬¬6H8O6 and reacts with Iodine to cause the reaction:2 C6H8O6(aq) + I2(aq) C6H6O6aq) +2I¬ (aq) + 2H+ To determine the amount of vitamin C an amount of KIO3 solution with a known concentration had it s iodine freed with the chemicals KI and H2S04, this allowed the iodine to react with the dissolved vitamin C tablet. This was then titrated against a primary standard of sodium thiosulfate at a concentration of 0.01102*10 5¬¬M. These chemicals cause the following reactions3: KIO3(aq) + 5KI(aq) +3H2SO¬4(aq) 3I2(aq) + 3K2SO4(aq) + 3H2O(l) 2Na2S2O3(aq) + I2(aq) 2NaI(aq) + Na2S4O6(aq) Since the volume of KIO3 solution and so is the molarity we can determine the amount of KIO3 solution that was freed. We can then compare that to the amount of primary standard used to determine the amount of Ascorbic acid in the solution. Procedure The procedure given in the First Year Chemistry Lab Manual for Experiment G4 was followed with the modifications below. Instead of using a 500mL volumetric flask a 1L volumetric flask was used. This made calculations that required Liters (L) easier as the numbers could be carried without doing any math. In King John (written between 1594 and 1596), Shakespeare adopts what was then a fairly conventional attitude towards family relationships: his characters never question the highly patriarchal family hierarchy. They also assume that the majority of wives will be unfaithful, simply because they are female however, they take the charge of adultery rather lightly. Their conversation disturbingly resembles a sinner s confession to her priest. She tells Robert, Heaven lay not my transgression to my charge! (1.1.256). He replies by assuring her, And they shall say, when Richard me begot,/ If thou hadst said him nay, it had been sin./ Who says it was, he lies; I say twas not (1.1.274 76). This obviously highlights the power differential between the Lady and her son. The most vivid example of King John s patriarchalism is found in the character of John s niece Blanche. Her entire life rests on the men in it, namely, King John and Lewis the Dauphin. King John marries her to the Dauphin, because, as Eleanor advises him, For by this knot thou shalt so surely tie Thy now unsured assurance to the crown That yon green boy shall have no sun to ripe The bloom that promiseth a mighty fruit (2.1.471 474). After Blanche s marriage, Lewis uses her claim to the throne as the fault was hers / Which fault lies on the hazards of all husbands/ That marry wives (1.1.118 20). No one contradicts either of them. Additionally, when Constance and Queen Eleanor begin to argue, they accuse each other of infidelity and call each other s sons bastards. • 20. Benefits And Backlashes Of High Stakes Testing The Benefits and Backlashes of High Stakes Testing What if the determining factor of whether or not you would be successful or a failure in life was solely based on the results of one test. Regardless of all the progress you have accomplished over your life, it all comes down to this big moment, the big test! That is the reality many students face annually due to high stakes testing. High stakes testing is the use of a summative test or an assessment to make decisions that are of prominent educational, financial, or social impact (Kubiszyn Borich, 2013). Decisions such as graduation/grade promotion, school/state funding, or even job placement or termination. Many critics of high stakes testing believe that these test cause teachers to teach to the test. Pedulla, Abrams, Madaus, Russell, Ramos, and Miao (as cited in Madaus Russell, 2010) found in a national survey that 80 percent of teachers admitted to increasing time spent on subjects that are tested on. These critics also believe that test scores increase as a result of placing sole focus on the test and revolving curriculum and instruction around the specific high stakes test of that school. I do not agree completely agree with the statement that test scores increase as a result of teachers teaching to the test. It is unfair to say that since the vast majority of teachers are teaching to the test, that all other teachers are also doing the same. Sometimes increased test scores are a direct result of the hard work of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The catholic church saw it s reign secede and individualism increase in the minds of the people of the time. Because of this, people in the Renaissance now looked at themselves in a way that was never seen before. Slowly but surely, the whole world changed. The rise in individualism and humanism signified a change in the way people thought about their purpose in life. In the Medieval Times, people believed that they were at the mercy of God, and they had no control over their own bodies or lives. From the change in Medieval Times to the Renaissance, whole fields were changed, especially art and the medical field, because of the rise of the individual and that way of life. Art in the Medieval Times was dreary and bland. Many works of art were solely about God or holy figures. Similarly, in Document A, Renaissance art is described as new artistic styles would echo the broader movements and interests of the new age.... . As compared to Medieval Times, the style of art became something similar to the time that people could relate to. In the Medieval Times, art was just meant to extol God s many feats. People who viewed the painting were supposed to put that style of art on a pedestal. Medieval art was supposed to be worshipped, not so much understood. The individual in the Medieval Times was supposed to take away from the painting that the only thing that mattered in their life was the Roman Catholic church and God already had a plan for their lives. But in comparison, Renaissance art was supposed to empower and help people of the time to understand themselves and the fact that they can change their own lives. • 23. The Characteristics Of Characters In Homer s The Iliad To begin with, to work in common means to work together within a community or to not live in isolation, as opposed to living without any desire or requirement of other people. Consequently, it is someone whom relies only on their own wits without an oath or pledge into partnership with or to anyone outside of themselves. Aristotle makes the simile of this type of person to a beast or god, as neither requires approval from any person, to describe someone that lives a life in this way. In Homer s book The Iliad Achilles appears to portray this description. A characteristic to point out is that Achilles fought in battle given that he enjoyed fighting. He did not fight for a nation or for a king. He fought for his own personal reason and that was for the exhilaration he felt whilst conquering any opponent in a battle. Achilles is adamant and he avows he has no motive to fight the Trojans given that they have done nothing to offend him that warrants his wrath (Puchner, et al. 193). (Puchner, et al. 183) mentions that Achilles rage sets him apart from the rest of humanity which for him consisted of the Greeks. However, first, he raged against the Trojans and in turn against Agamemnon; thus, raging inadvertently against the Greeks. In his contempt for Agamemnon, Achilles stated publicly to him, You shameless, profiteering excuse for a commander! How are you going to get any Greek warrior to follow you into battle again? later on, he reinforced his feelings for Agamemnon s motives, for all to hear, as to why he brought on the attacks toward the Trojans by saying, It s for you, dogface, for your precious pleasure and Menelaus honor that we came here, a fact you don t have the decency even to mention! (Puchner, et al. 193). Pallas Athena intervened Achille s murderous thoughts and convinced him to not strike out at Agamemnon, which resulted in him bursting out, You bloated drunk, with a dog s eyes and a rabbit s heart! Whole Foods Market ( Wfm ) Essay Whole Foods Market (WFM) is a leading natural and organic food supermarket founded in Austin, Texas by four local business people: John Mackey and Renee Lawson Hardy, owners of Safer Way Natural Foods, and Craig Weller and Mark Skiles, owners of Clarksville Natural Grocery. WFM opened its first store in 1980, they staffed their first store with only 19 workers, the store was an immediate success partly because at the time there were less than half a dozen organic stores in the entire country. The original WFM store opened on September in 1980 after Safer Way and Clarksville Natural Foods partnered, the 10,500 square feet location was quite larger than the standard health food store of the 80 s. The business had its first hiccup a year after they opened their doors, their entire inventory was lost and most of the equipment was damaged by a historic flood that devastated the city of Austin. The owners did not have insurance but they were able to quickly get back on their feet due to the volunteered help of neighbors and customers as well as the help of creditors, vendors, and investors who provided breathing room for them. The store reopened just after 28 days of the flood. The expansion of the business happened quickly in the late 80 s. New locations appeared in Houston and Dallas, then New Orleans. In a 1997 study done off the coast of Costa Rica, it was discovered that 60 percent of the coral reefs in Cahuita National Park had been severely damaged due to runoff from coastal banana plantations (Cohen, 2009). Furthermore, bananas are grown as a mono culture, where all the bananas on a plantation are genetically identical. Although this makes crops easy to manage, these bananas face an increased risk of being wiped out by a single type of pest, fungi or disease, and will all be severely attacked if the pests develop resistance to pesticides. In order to prevent this from happening even more chemicals are used. It is estimated that 30 kilograms of pesticides are used per hectare per year on a banana plantation, whereas only 2.7 kilograms are used for the average European cereal crop (Cohen, 2009). The banana field workers (also called bananeros ), often untrained, and marginalized workers, lack sufficient precautionary instructions or protective equipments. According to Ivan Clavijos, an ex conventional banana producer, despite wearing masks, goggles, and gloves, chemical gases can still get absorbed in the workers clothes, and through sweats will enter the body, blood, and liver via pores on the skin, producing ammonia in the blood, or can result in loss of sight, hearing, or sterility, which he himself and many people he knows who work in banana ... ATP binds to all P2YRs except P2Y6R and P2Y14R12. Its binding characteristics exemplify the complexity of P2YR signalling: at low concentrations it is the only native agonist for P2Y11R, but at higher concentrations it functions as a partial agonist for P2Y1R and P2Y13R, or as an antagonist for human P2Y4R or P2Y12R11, 12, 15. Other nucleotides, such as ADP, UTP, UDP or UDP glucose, exhibit more specificity for individual P2YRs. For example, ADP activates P2Y1R, P2Y12R and P2Y13R, whereas UTP primarily binds to P2Y2R and P2Y4R, and to a lesser extent to P2Y6R, for which UDP is its preferred native ligand. P2Y14R is ... Again reason is that the focus of the program would change and secondly, staff is not trained properly to service members with a developmental disability. • 32. The Gospel Of Mark Is A Fast Moving The Gospel of Mark is a fast moving, succinct, and informative gospel thought to be originally written by John Mark, using Simon Peter s eye witness accounts. The author seems to place emphasis around the meaningful events and moments in the life of Jesus Christ, such as his suffering, crucifixion, and messianic secret. However, the gospel is primarily centered around Jesus teachings, especially honing in on the beginning of Jesus Ministry. Jesus as a teacher and the discipleship are key factors to the gospel s proposed message Jesus Christ gave his life in service to the world. Therefore, humans are to learn from his message and teachings. In Mark 12:38 44, these themes of discipleship, suffering, and Jesus as a teacher are represented as there is an obvious gap between the affluent scribes offering for the treasury and the widow s gift of all that she had to live on (NRSV, Mark 12:44). Jesus takes this opportunity to continue his teaching by summoning his disciples and pointing out the different contributions to the temple treasury, while making a notable commentary on the social and socio economic situation that the scribes have created a situation that lead to poverty for the widow. In Mark 12:38 40, Jesus explicitly denounces the scribes as he teaches. He warns the disciples about the scribes, providing insight into the social threat that they (scribes) bring. Literature is defined as, writings in prose or verse; especially : writings having excellence of form or expression and expressing ideas of permanent or universal interest (Merriam Webster). In both African and Middle Eastern literature, there is an overlap in theme, motif, and ideas. There is an awareness of community over oneself present in both forms of literature. The role of women in both societies is viewed as one of a lesser importance than the male presence. A discrepancy in the similarity between Middle Eastern and African literature is the presence of a mystical unexplainable presence in African literature. The presence of community and its role is presented in both African and Middle Eastern literature. These themes can be seen a variety of times in both pieces of literature. In The Beekeeper s Journey the idea of inclusivity and community is presented as the author writes, He could not fire a rifle with accuracy, he could not use a blade with any skill, and he knew nothing about fighting, so he would die... (The Beekeeper s Journey 8). In this Abbas (The main character of the story) is so committed to a sense of duty that he is willing to die for his community.
