Sound Waves Lab
To fully understand how to determine the velocity of sound in air, many concepts have to be
understood prior to the experiment. Sound waves transmitted through a fluid are a type of
longitudinal wave. These mechanical waves are formed when energy passes through a medium
and moves particles in the same direction or parallel to the energy. The particles move in a series
of high pressure and low pressure regions. The energy will compress some areas of the medium,
creating a high pressure region. In between these high pressure regions will be a rarefaction, these
are the low pressure regions (Figure 1). As the energy moves through the medium the sections of
high and low pressure will move. Through a complete process the particles move slightly as they
will oscillate around their original position.

This is 21m/s below the accepted value of speed in air at 0 в„ѓ. At 24.4 в„ѓ the accepted value is
345m/s, 35m/s faster than the experimental value. Assuming that the speed of sound at any
temperature can be measured from a simple calculation, this experiment can be used to measure the
frequency of an unmarked tuning fork. By completing the experiment in the exact same process one
can determine the wavelength. Once the wavelength was determined using the temperature the
speed could be calculated. Both wavelength and speed are variables in the velocity of sound
formula (v = Ж›f ). Using algebra, frequency could be determined by substituting wavelength and
speed. The percent error for this lab could have been affected by not accurately determining the
point of which the sound reached its loudest point. If the peak of sound was not measured
accurately, the experimental value would be off the actual measurement. This would effect the
wavelength which would in turn directly affect the speed value because the frequency was a given,

Social Perspectives on Abortion
Introduction
The abortion question raises a number of issues that form the core of the abortion debate.
Opponents and supporters of abortions have been battling over this particular problem for decades
and still cannot come to an agreement. Being one of the most common and most controversial
medical procedures, abortion tends to affect people on psychological and sociological levels. But
while the discussion of the morality of abortion is an ongoing debate, the social issues surrounding
abortion in most cases stay unnoticed. The social aspect of the issue is centered on the abortion
policy. The main question of the abortion policy is whether the law should permit abortions and, if
so under what circumstances. The other is whether the law should put the life of an unborn child
first and legally protect it. The peculiarity of the abortion policy is that its measures are highly
dependent on different public opinions.
Pro life and pro choice arguments
It is worth mentioning in the first place that the continuing debate over the abortion problem has
always been based on two main opposing views. Nagan (1971) terms these viewpoints as the fetus
oriented view and the female perspective (p. 288). To his mind, defining the status of the fetus as a
human being or only as a potential human being best indicates polarity

Okonkwo A Tragic Hero Essay
Aristotle says that a tragic hero is someone who makes a mistake that leads to his/her own
destruction. In the novel Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, Okonkwo is a successful person. He
is known throughout the clan as a brave warrior and a wealthy farmer. Okonkwo tried to lead his
people through British colonization, but the events he made during that time period ultimately lead
to his demise. Although Okonkwois successful, he is considered a tragic herobecause of how
important he was to his society and the fatal flaws he made that lead to his downfall.
In the society of Umuofia, Okonkwo was a very successful and prominent figure. When he was
young, Okonkwo was already doing things that made people look up to him. By the age of 18,

Okonkwo was not afraid to kill people, even people close to him. He killed Ikemefuna, the boy
who looked up to him as a father, when Okonkwo drew his machete and cut him down. (61) This
was one of Okonkwo s first errors. The killing showed that Okonkwo was afraid of being thought
as weak. Okonkwo did not kill purposely all the time though. At a funeral for one of the village
elders, Okonkwo s gun had exploded and killed the elder s son.(124) This led to Okonkwo being
banished to his mother s land for 7 years. After the 7 years, he returned to his home clan and saw
that the English and Christianity had changed Umuofia tremendously. Okonkwo began to despise
the new people and the new religion. His hate for the new people caused him to kill another
person. Okonkwo was so furious, His machete descended twice , he had killed one of the
Englishmen in his clan.(204) This was the breaking point. Okonkwo had lost hope that Umuofia
would return to the way it was. Killing the Englishmen was the final fatal error. Right after the
killing, Okonkwo killed himself.
Okonkwo was a tragic hero because of the fame he had in his clan, and the errors he made that lead
to his demise. He was successful as a person, but made many bad decisions like killing people. This
is what made him a tragic

Feminism Research Paper
Feminism has proven to be a recurring and undying concept through the years. It is made up of a
range beliefs and ideologies geared towards the implementation of the rights of women. This
movement aims to achieve a common goal: the eradication of inequality and false practices against
women. It aims to give women the freedom they need and deserve. Feminismconsists of activism,
which may either be in groups or individually, fighting for a common goal. Gone are the days
where women are not allowed to run for certain positions in the government, to vote, to work, to be
given education and to make decisions for themselves. Men and women are human beings. Men and
women are equal.
Equality is a rather broad term. It speaks of a relation between two different objects with unifying
characteristics. Gender inequality has been one of the most occurring human rights violations of our
time. There have been various projects and campaigns against gender inequality but sadly, it still
exists. This was originally considered a battle women face but in recent years, more men have been
involved in the battle. Gender inequality will be a never ending problem unless we, ourselves, act on

A Love Story
Not a Love Story Oh my gosh, it s Ru Emerson! A girl screamed out. Commotion rippled across
the campus as a hoard of girls started gathering around a particular spot. Ru Emerson was quite
used to this and casually dismissed the girls. Sorry girls, another day! Ru shouted as he grinned,
since many girls were asking him if he was free or had football practice that day. In a split
second, the girls dispersed with disappointed looks on their faces, knowing that they could never
have a chance with a campus football star. Ru always knew he had dashing good looks, as he
was quite proud of his thick, jet black hair, his cloudy grey eyes, and his toned body. On top of
all that, he had a great charm. While silently adoring himself, Ru made his way to the Starbucks
on campus to treat himself to an iced coffee. As he was strolling along the pathway, he looked up
at the clear, blue sky, watching a few birds fly by. On his left, he spotted a few more kooky girls
who were crazy for him, so he ducked his head and stared at the patterned brick path beneath his
feet, and kept walking. Ru eventually reached the familiar glass door at Starbucks and pushed
forward with his head still lowered. Suddenly, he felt something hit his chest and saw a pile of
textbooks on his feet. Ru immediately raised his head, only to find a girl with her hands and
knees on the ground. Their gaze met each other for a few seconds, then Ru instinctively bent
down to help the girl pick up her books. He noticed the faint smell of cigarettes. I m terribly
sorry, I didn t mean to do that, Ru said apologetically, I just wasn t watching where I was going.
Totally my fault. The girl nodded timidly but was too shocked to say anything and just kept
staring at Ru. Here you are, Miss. Lenora. Ru chirped as he handed her stack of textbooks back.
Lenora was almost too bewildered to speak. The man in front of her was too beautiful. She was
already lost in his captivating grey eyes, his bold, straight eyebrows, and his alluring tinted lips.
Th thanks, Lenora hesitated as she quickly tucked her blonde hair behind her ear, sorry, but how
did you know my name? Ru replied, I saw it written in one of your books and assumed

Ethical Values From The Book The Dispossessed Written By...
What is ethics? It is a code of conduct that a human being lives by. Being ethical makes life a bit
easier and simpler because of the boundaries and code of conduct we set for our selves. Many
authors implement their own ethical values into their stories, which sometimes give the reader an
insight into the kind of person the author is. Making references to an article by Daniel P Jaeckle, I
will be analyzing the three ethical values from the book The Dispossessed written by Ursula K.
LeGuin, that have been layered together in a way that it creates interpersonal ethics, ethics of
mutual aid, ethics of shared pain, and ethics of the bond, designed to meet the needs of an anarchist
society. Anarchism is a philosophy based on voluntary... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only weakness. (Ch. 7) In his article, Jaeckle hints that LeGuin borrowed this ethical value from
the work of a Russian anarchist Peter Kropotkin. It can be said that Shevek increases the variety of
the sociality to species way beyond human beings. He calls this so called species social species .
The fact that he does this is so important because it signifies that being social is not something
that is religiously necessary or related to someone s past. Being social or anti social can occur at
any age through out someone s life. From the above quote, Shevek s dialogue can be perceived
as an interpretation of Darwin s principle the survival of the fittest. Yes, it is somewhat true that
people who are social are the strongest and those who are anti social are weak, only because the
social species know how to get around people and the anti social ones are too afraid to speak to
anyone else, hence they sometimes get into trouble even if they didn t mean to. How does this
relate to ethics? Well, according to the quote above, a competitive society that focuses on
domination rather than equality will commit an unethical blunder. This blunder will lead to
misunderstanding of the importance of the forces that moves humanity and the other social species
forward and to evolution. Where does mutual aid come into play here? How is mutual aid
connected to the social species? It is rather simple. Most social species tend to live

Music, Language, And Characters In The Hobbit
Did you know that in The Hobbit many magical creatures like the goblins, elves, and dwarves
sing songs that reveal many things about them. In this novel music plays a role in the
development of the story and characters. The different creatures songs vary in tone, content, and
structure that reveal many things about the magical creatures. First, after the dwarves or the
unexpected party arrived they sang a song about an adventure that they would ask Bilbo to join
and what it was about. The tone of the song was to persuade and inspire Bilbo to agree to go. For
example the dwarves sand, Far over the Misty Mountainscold. This line was repeated multiple
times in the song and caused Bilbo s Tookish side to want to see the great mountains and go on
an adventure. The poem s content consisted of explaining the reasons to go on the adventure.
They sung, To win our harps and gold from him. This explains that they must return to their
ancestors land to win back the riches that were taken by Smaug. There also was a lot of rhyme
in this song, Tolkien states the dwarves sing Far over the misty mountains cold To dungeons deep
and caverns old We must away ere break of day To seek the pale and enchanted gold. This is a
great example of rhyme the ending sounds of cold, old, and gold sound alike. The tone, content,
and structure signal features about the dwarves. This song showed that the dwarves are very
adventurous and brave. Since they must cross back over the dangerous,

Media Panics
A media panic or often referred to as a moral panic, is a term that describes how the media is
formulating issues amongst our society. Over time, our culture has shifted and caused for many
conclusions regarding media panics and the relationship between youth and the media culture.
Based upon previous knowledge and course readings, I have drawn a very disturbing conclusion;
this being that no matter what age, children are willing or non willingly now under surveillance to
determine what kind of role mediais playing in their lives. With what I have gathered from the
readings and class lectures, most authors strongly believe that different forms of media directly
influence children s thinking or perception. What authors and researchers... Show more content on

The authors discuss the objectifying gaze, which I believe has a lot to do with how females are
perceived with the usages of photo altering technology and online visual cultures. The theoretical
framework of the objectification theory places female bodies in a sociocultural context with the
aim of illuminating the lived experiences and mental health risks of girls and women who
encounter sexual objectification (Frederickson Roberts, 174). The pose and the filter that a
young woman chooses to enhance the beauty of her photo is argued to read just that, and it
allows for others viewing them to assume their lived experiences, how these young women
generally are, the practices they engage in, etc. What we tend to forget, especially in an age
where digital culture is so prominent, is that a picture is a snapshot of a moment in time.
According to Drotner (1999), the idea that new media has become a threat and a main cause of
moral panics to young people is problematic because it infers that they are effected by what they
are exposed to. This assumption of children, introduces to our society that every piece of media
may be able to change them. What we are telling ourselves is that young people are followers and
do not have a mind of their own; they are vulnerable, innocent and easily influenced. Media panics
introduce the idea that there should be some sort of protection for children from the dangers media
may introduce. In

Summary Of Jhumpa Lahiri s The Namesake
The first sentence of a novel, even a chapter, needs to leave a first impression. Jhumpa Lahiri in
her novel The Namesake wields the first sentence in each of her chapters, so they build through her
book in a far more significant way than just a first impression. Lahiri uses the first sentence of
every chapter to further the plot development by clearly setting new scenes to transition to the new
setting and sub purpose of the next chapter. To successfully set her scenes, she uses varying Syntax
and rhetorical tools including imagery, short syntax with a focus, and grammatical mistakes. Of
the different ways Lahiri sets her scenes, the first sentences that provide the most context are the
ones that employ imagery and have a long syntax structure. Lahiri takes advantage of these
sentences when the book is currently in a place with minimal conflict and the mood of the book
is new and very different from what it was previously. The main goal is to develop what is
currently a clean slate. The cleanest slate being the first chapter, which starts on a sticky August
evening two weeks before her due date, Ashima Ganguli stands in the kitchen of a Central Square
apartment, combining Rice Krispies and Planters peanuts and chopped red onion in a bowl
(Lahiri 1). This sentence provides a who, what, when, where, and how, which covers almost all
the basic context. The reader can now understand the scene, so the author could start describing
actions going on in the scene. Another clean slate in The Namesake is the chapter after Gogol and
Monshumi s wedding, and they attend a dinner party. Lahiri ends that section and it shifts to their
anniversary; On the morning of their first anniversary, Monshumi s parents call, waking them,
wishing them a happy anniversary before they ve had the chance to say it to each other (246).
This sentence provides a who, what, when, where, and why, which sets a completely new scene.
The long syntax allows for Lahiri to provide all this information, so the reader can start picturing
the scene. In turn, this strategy creates a very solid transition to a completely different place and
point of view to focus on. On the other hand, Lahiri uses short syntax with a very particular focus to
start

Botox Research Paper
Today s society is focused on looking flawless, and achieving that perfect look. This is driven by
the idea that everyone should look like supermodels and actors on television. Many people go to
different extremes to become what they perceive as perfect . That is when Botox was
introduced to help achieve these desired looks, which are in popular demand. Botox is a
minimally invasive and less expensive cosmetic procedure. Botox injections have been used for
frown lines between the eyes and smoothing of facial wrinkles. It is also used for those stubborn
wrinkles around the corner of the eyes, also known as crows feet . There were nearly 2.5 million

German scientist, Dr. Kerner determined that there was a toxin in spoiled sausages that were
making people ill, but what does this have to do with Botox? Well 7 more strains were
discovered 70 years later by another doctor, also investigating food poisoning, expanding on Dr.
Kerner s discovery, and found seven strains of botulinum toxin, four of which were harmful to
humans. They considered using the four bad stains of botulinum toxin as a weapon of war. They
would inject the toxin into pills and poison high ranking officials on the opposite side. Luckily
this project was abandoned, which gave researchers the chance to see the good in Botox. Science
researchers discovered that injecting small amounts of Botulinum toxin type A, which is one of
the three less toxic strains, into hyperactive muscles relaxed them. In the 1960 s they began to
experiment with its helpful side effects, botulinum toxin type A became the go to toxin in all
research labs. The FDA approved botulinum toxin type A for use on humans in the 1980 s, for
everything from treating facial spasms to vocal spasms. Botox became so popular that there was
actually a Botox drought in 1997! Botox not only has medical benefits, but is also is a safe and
effective cosmetic treatment. In fact, Botox is the number one non surgical cosmetic treatment in the

Catiline s Argument For Land Reform
Friends and fellow Romans of the Senate! We are in dark times and now more than ever, we
must tackle them as a United Senate of Rome. No longer should we be in turmoil over this
divide in laws and land reform. Heed my warnings! If not, all of Rome shall collapse and we will
all perish at the hands of Catiline and his massive army. I don t know about you all, but I fear for
your safety. Before any of this began, Catiline came to us, speaking for the people of Rome and
stating his hopes of bringing positive changes to our great country. Although they may have
seemed radical, Catiline s ideas for land reform were exactly what this country needed. Antonius,
Cornelius and I wanted Catiline s ideas passed in a civil and proper manner. Instead, we must
come to these decisions under harsh and dire circumstances. Keeping this in mind, I feel now
more than ever that we should stop wasting time on this topic and pass Antonius land reform laws,
which would appeal to Catiline and his followers. This is clearly what the people of Rome want if
they are burning our streets and killing our Senate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By waiting and arguing for this long, all we have given them is false hope. With Catiline escaped
from prison, they now have a strong leader to stand behind instead of Cicero. Impeaching Cicero
was something that Catiline wanted, and I believe that if we comtinue to appeal to his requests,
we can stop the riots, the conspiracies and the deaths of our senate members. I believe that we
should return Catiline back to the Senate. We should not consider him our public enemy if he has
an army of Romans standing behind him. If anything, he is clearly representing the people. We
have continued to argue what the people truly want, but it is clear to me that Catiline is speaking
for the people. Bringing him here and giving him his rights back seems like the safest solution for

white Americans (whites). Minny and Aibileen are mothers working as maids to earn money for
their families. Young American, Skeeter (Emma Stone) is a writer and aspiring journalist wishing

wishes for equality and change. This was sparked by her friends negative and discriminating attitude
towards the maids.

The film is focused on the survival and strength of the coloured, not about wealth and happiness

brave, it s about overcoming fear and daring to do what is right in your mind . Having the
courage and bravery is what Aibileen and 32 other maids were doing. They were unwelcomed in
white houses unless they are working, if they are working they do not get respected. Courage is
speaking up for what is right, in this case it is telling Skeeter their stories of being a maid. I
believe that courage is an important concept to have, as a girl of the white and blue, teachers are
always telling us, commanding us to stand out . Don t be like the others, be yourself, is what they
are informing us in my eyes. The Help is about achieving what others can not achieve. Many events
could of prevented the maids from wanting to participate; shootings, abuse in the house and abuse
from the white public. Nevertheless, they stuck together and made a book about Jackson,

Grotesque Stereotypes
We later used these characteristics of high status in a perverse male character obsessed with
being with ever younger women to the point we parody him eventually masturbating a baby. The
movements become ape like, panting like a dog and soon he was on his knees barking and
entirely playing the dog. We were able to challenge the common fetish of older men and the
desire to make themselves look younger. The purpose of these scenes was to make the audience
unable to ignore the message we were projecting; an understanding that our position in society is
only defined relative to those we consider to be lesser or greater than our own. By forcing the
audience to consider their roles in these relationships it becomes an easy step for them to see their
place in a wider flawed system as noted from the lecturer s course material, absent target eg the
establishment , personal target eg the audience (Taaffe 2015 2016)

Common and Civil Law Legal Systems
Common and Civil law legal systems
According to Zimmermann there are as many legal systems as there are national states . Every
country has its own unique legal system. However, we can allocate among them three main legal
systems. These are: Civil Law, Common Law and Islamic Law. Civil and Common Laws are the
most influential legal systems in the world, especially in its Western part. All three of these legal
systems have existed and developed for many centuries. Further will follow the description of the
historically appearance of each legal system separately.
Civil legal system is considered to be the oldest and the most widespread one. It also known as

Equity deals with situations by applying notions of good sense and fairness .[4] (Elliott, C Quinn,
F, 1996).The law is dominantly created by judge and often without checking the legislation, only
by drawing analogy the previous similar cases. This moment shows the difference of the legislators
in civil law and in common law. In the civil law, judges should apply the law, which was created
by the legislator, on the basis of separation of powers. On the other hand, in common law the judge
is given the power to create the law.
Another difference between civil and common law system is the force of precedents. In civil
law system, the court decides the particular cases according to the legislation and legal norms.
But in the common law the courts are supposed not only to solve the cases, but also give an
example of how similar cases have to be solved in the future. This means, that decisions, which are
made by higher level courts in a specific areas are binding the lower ones to follow them. This
makes the court in the common law the basis of legislation.
Court procedures are also differentiating in both civil and common legal systems. We all know that
at the court two parties cooperate by presenting their evidence to each other. Civil legal system has
an inquisitorial procedure. In inquisitorial procedure the judge is the active person, who also takes
more investigative role. Common law countries use the accusatorial system, which is also known as

Stephen King Gothic Elements
Stephen King s The Boogeyman was my favorite piece of gothic literature that we read. I was
trying to figure the story out all the way until the end and had to re read some of it to fully
understand. It was suspenseful, scary, but also had a good story to listen to. The Boogeyman was
full of gloomy settings, monsters, characters in distress, and intense emotions. These 4 things are
just a couple elements that make up gothic literature.
The first element of gothic literature that I noticed in The Boogeyman was the gloomy setting.
The way the man described his house was chilling. He made it sound cold, haunted, and all
around gave the house a bad vibe. He says, I heard a noise in there one night. And then she
screamed. I opened the door real quick the hall light was on and. . . she was sitting up in the crib
crying and. . . something moved. Back in the shadows, by the closet. Something slithered. Here he
is talking about his own daughter s room and how something was in there and he did nothing. I
couldn t believe that, his own child was in distress and he was too full of pride to admit to his wife
that he wanted to protect or baby their child. Her room was described as creepy enough without the
monster. The gloomy setting helps show that this is gothic literature.

because I haven t gone anywhere in a good while. I look around at my surrounding and found
everything so nice and expensive by the way the food look. I look down at my clothes knowing I
wasn t dress to look the part.
You look beautiful shorty. Eli says as if he heard my thoughts. I nod my head not believing him
seeing other people dress high and expensive are in here. The waiter comes to us telling us our
table is ready. We follow him as we walk hand in hand to our table with people eyeing us. I felt
shy and nervous for some reason. I wanted to take my hand out of Eli hand, but for some reason he
tightens his grip on my hand. Before the waiter leaves he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A new waiter approach us asking how we are and if we re ready to eat. I didn t have much time to
look at our menu, but Eli decides to order for us.
I ll have the 12oz steak with mash potatoes and salad, while my girl will have a large plate of
chicken and shrimp alfredo pasta. The waiter quickly writes it down on his notepad and remove
the menu from our table. I look over to Eli seeing he s already watching me.
I like being in charge as you can see. Eli says.
Why didn t you become the leader in the gang? Eli chuckles.
If I was the leader would you have love me instead of Nino? His questions don t hit me since I had
a feeling he would bring Nino into this.
How do you know I loved Nino?
He almost killed you, but after that you still wanted him. I think that s safe to say that s love. Eli
says shrugging his shoulder.
Are you jealous? I ask him teasing him for a change.
Fuck yeah. I wanted you since I first laid my eyes on you. I should of came after you since I first

The Community Mental Health Centers Act Of 1963 Closed...
Many years ago, mental illness was viewed as a demonic possession or a religious punishment. In
the 18th century, the attitudes towards mental illness were negative and persistent. This negativity
leads to the stigmatization and confinement of those who were mentally ill. The mentally ill were
sent to mental hospitals that were unhealthy and dangerous. A push in the mid 1950s for
deinstitutionalization began because of activists lobbying for change. Dorothea Dix was one of
these activists that helped push for change. The change called for more community oriented care
rather than asylum based care. The Community Mental Health Centers Act of 1963 closed state
psychiatric hospitals throughout the United States. Only individuals who posed an imminent
danger to themselves or someone else could be committed to state psychiatric hospitals (A Brief
History of Mental Illness and the U.S. Mental Health Care System). Deinstitutionalization meant to
improve quality of life and treatment for those who are mentally ill. This would hopefully result in
the mentally ill receiving treatment so they could live more independently. The hope was that
community mental health programs would provide this treatment but sadly there was not sufficient
or ongoing funding to meet the growing demand for these programs. Budgets for mental hospitals
were reduced but there was no increase for the community based programs. Many mentally ill
individuals have been moved to nursing homes or other residential

Another way in which Batman displays himself as a Byronic hero is his function as a subversive
character which refuses to submit to demonic forces. He tries to appear to be a man who is morally
upright. However, Batman is unable to separate himself from the pain of his parents untimely death,
which gives him a new identity as a mysterious masked crime fighter. In most books and films, he
tries to put this tragic incident behind him without much success. As Peter J. Tomasi indicates,
instead we see a presentation of Batman s powers by exacting strange acts in the name of justice
like teleporting hotheaded (1). Another work by Crutcher emphasizes that Many Lives of the
Batman and Batman Unmasked are bought in three areas: popular culture studies, popular culture
as it relates to marketing and consumerism, and the nature of the comic publishing industry. Most
writers have examined the impact of Dark Knight Returns on cultural consciousness, politics, and
so on. This antihero construction sparks centuries old dialogues on ethics, the kind of business that
comprises the bulk of Batman. The complexities and graphics in the novel and comic of Batman
have been defined as his duality with his villains (Crutcher 66). Due to popularity and the existence
of Batman, people began using the Batman symbol as paraphernalia on personal belongings such as
clothing, equipment, and supplies. Byronic hero is said to be intelligent, cunning and able to adapt,

Examples Of Loss Of Innocence In Fly Away Peter
How does Malouf show the loss of innocence in Jim during World War One?
David Malouf s novel Fly Away Peter charts out the life of protagonist, Jim Sadler. Jim Sadler
starts the novel as an innocent young man who lives on the Coast of Queensland. As Jim shows
his love and appreciation for birds, he ends up getting a job at a sanctuary owned by Ashley
Crawthaw. His job was to watch for the birds that migrated to and from the sanctuary. Throughout
the novel the readers are taken on the journey that Jim faces, from the innocence of a young adult
to the horror and brutality of the war. At the beginning of the novel the audience is introduced to
Jim while he is gazing in the far distance to where the swamp ended and the farmlands
began(Malouf, D. Pg.1). Jim s love for birds was strong, everything about them just amazed him
he could sit for hours and watch them while naming each as he proceeded into the day. By being
in the sanctuary, Jim is protected from the harsh reality of the outside world. Having grown up in
the country, he is oblivious to how cruel the world is. Once exposing himself to the outside world
and goes to the town centre, without much awareness regarding the war, he feels pressured to join
the War Effort. Jim is aware of the need to extend his experiences within life and acknowledges the
changes that war will certainly bring. On Jim s arrival to the trenches he is hit with the harsh reality
he thought he would never understand. Being so distant from the

The Pros and Cons of the Great Migration Essay
The Great Migration was a huge relocation of African Americans from the Southern states of the
United States to northern and Midwestern cities. This occurred between the years of 1910 and
1970. Over 6 million African Americans traveled to Northern cities during the migration. Some
northern city destinations were Richmond, D.C, Baltimore, New York, and Newark. Western and
Midwestern destinations were those such as Los Angelos, San Francisco, St. Louis, Chicago, and
Detroit. During this time period and previous years, Jim Crow lawsin the South were greatly in

Great Migration being beneficial. The primary source that I do use in this paper is an interview
of an individual who participated in the Great Migration. His name is James Green, as I have
mentioned him before. The interview he participated in was conducted for a Black Migration
project. Because he has been a part of this mass movement of African Americans, it makes him a
reliable source. Now I will explain a few of my other sources. A secondary source I used is from
the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture which comes from the New York Public
Library. This site known as In Motion: The African AmericanMigration Experience, gives
background information about what the Great Migration was, it s causes, and what life was like in
the North. It also provides resources such as images, maps, and texts relating to the migration. One
of the research papers I use for this paper came from a student from Boston University, but Harvard

Southern born African Americans explains the effects on education in the North of Southern born

The Function Of Student Nurse
Monday, October 19th: Today I was at Moses Cone renal floor in the role of student nurse. I had
two patients. One patient was a patient I have had before who went to hemodialysis. My other
patient I had not had before, and she was admitted because her salivary glands were swollen and
infected. My past patient went to hemodialysis at 7:45 right after I got report and introduced
myself to her as my student nurse. I was able to go see her in hemodialysis. The nurse who was
working with her explained to me who hemodialysis works. He had a little bit of a cultural

understand a little bit about how to monitor your patient and make adjustments.... Show more

She was on a dysphagia 1 diet and was receiving her pills crushed in applesauce. She wasn t
tolerating it well because it was so bitter. Since I observed her eating her breakfast without any
problems, and since the order to crush her pills was a nursing order, we tried her on swallowing
pills with water. She did really well with this, so I spoke with her nurse about changing her order.
This nursing intervention we implemented deals specifically with learning outcome #2 which
talks about analyzing nursing interventions as they relate to health promotion in the older adult.
The intervention we implemented promoted our patient s comfort and also led to decreased
gagging and greater adherence to taking medications. Another less critical intervention I
implemented were daily cares such as bathing, ambulating, and changing her gown. These were
also interventions for comfort and that contributed to the patient feeling better about herself
which will lead to healing. My personal goals for this week at Moses Cone were: I will help
another student with one of their tasks by the end of the day. I will make a discharge plan or
discuss with my nurse what discharge planning looks like before leaving. I will introduce myself
to my patients with my nurse. My patient goals are: My patients will be able to explain what they
need to do upon discharge to maintain health. My patients will state a non medicinal therapy that
can be used in their treatment before the end of the day. My

Essay on Henry s Diagnosis of Conduct Disorder
Throughout the movie The Good Son there are many examples of Henry s mental illness. Because
of his aggression towards animals and people, the destruction of property, deceitfulness, and serious
rule violations, Henry is diagnosed with Conduct Disorder (CD) (American Academy of Child and
Adolescent Psychiatry, 12/10/09). Throughout the movie Henry demonstrates all of these
characteristics. He shattered windows on an old warehouse by throwing rocks. Henry also shot
and killed a dog and showed no remorse in doing so. These actions are unjustifiable to the mind of
a normal person, but they are completely normal to Henry. The first example of Henry s (CD) is
the attempts on his sister s life. Henry attempted to killhis younger sister... Show more content on

Moreover, another event from the movie that shows his (CD) is his attempt to kill his mother.
After running away from her in the woods and hiding, he tries to push his mother of a cliff. This
plan was once again stopped by Mark. This ultimately led to Henrys death. This shows just how
maladaptive or out of touch with the world Henry was. As I pointed out earlier, Henry was a
very intelligent and manipulative child. He convinced his parents and other elders around him
to believe that he was the perfect child and tried turning them against his cousin Mark. He even
had Mark s doctor believing that Mark had a problem. According to (American Academy of
Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, 12/10/09) both of these events are characteristics of (CD).
Furthermore, Henry s behavior is very atypical. This can be seen when Henry reveals the
crossbow that he personally made. Then Henry proceeds to show Mark how it works by firing it
and nearly missing a cat. When Marks said that it was close to hitting the cat, Henry responded
by saying yeah the scopes not dialed in yet , meaning that the whole time Henry was aiming to
kill the cat. However, this does not stop Henry. The next day, after fixing the scope, Henry aims
at a dog, shoots and kills it. This shows that Henry has no problem killing animals as well as
people, which is yet another characteristic of (CD) (Mayo Clinic, 12/10/09).Conduct disorder is a
complicated group of behavioral and emotional problems

A History Of The World
In A History of the World in Six Glasses, Standage discusses how beer and wine are made in
terms of the ingredients and how each beverage is related to each social class. The ingredients
are what differentiate one beverage from another beverage. An Ingredient is the main
component that makes the beverage unique and gives it an identity. An ingredient is what
makes people to choose a beverage from wide range of options. An ingredient gives the color,
the texture and the taste to a beverage which makes it unique from other beverages. When it
comes to the social classes, beer and wine played a huge role to set up the structure of the social
classes. Both beer and wine made each stage of social class devote to a certain beverage that
would represent their social class. This essay, I will describe how Tom Standage s text, A
History of the World in Six Glasses, discusses the relationship and the differences between
ingredients of the beer and wine and the social classes with regard to beer and wine. This
synthesis will explain how the beer and wine were viewed in the in terms of ingredients and
how each social class was devoted to a certain beverage. To start off, ingredients differ from each
beverage and they give a specialty to each drink. Wine and Beer have a lot of common qualities in

The Case Of Mr. Stevens
Sam Stevens lives in an apartment building owned by his landlord, Mr. Quinn, where he has been
working on an invention that plays the sound of a barking dog to scare off potential intruders. A
national chain store has contacted Mr. Stevens, and would like to sell his product exclusively.
Despite the fact that Mr. Stevens and the store never signed a physical contract, he verbally told a
store manager several months ago that he would ship 1,000 units. Now, the chain store has just
contacted Mr. Stevens via letter, demanding that he deliver the promised 1,000 units immediately
(Southern New Hampshire University, n.d.).
There exists a second issue in the case of Mr. Stevens as well, regarding an eviction notice from his
landlord, telling him he has to be out of the apartment in 30 days because the barking invention has
been bothering the other tenants. The letter further states that Mr. Stevens was not allowed to
conduct his business from his apartment. Mr. Stevens is upset because he claims to have told
Quinn that he was working on a new invention, and the landlord had wished him luck (Southern
New Hampshire University, n.d.).
In regards to the issue between Mr. Stevens and the chain store, various elements must be present to
prove that a valid contract exists. The four elements to a contract are: agreement between the
parties, consideration, contractual capacity, and finally, legal object (Kubasek, Browne, Giampetro
Meyer, Barkacs, Herron, Williamson, Dhooge, 2011).

Making difficult decisions show up in life more often than realized. These choices can alter a
person s life in good and bad ways. The Bicycle by Jillian Horton is a story that focuses on a
young talented pianist named Hannah. Throughout the story Hannah deals with the strict teachings

Horton and Tellez both portray the theme of making difficult choices in their stories. The
protagonist s in each story consider all their options and think ahead before making a life
changing decision. In the stories The Bicycle and Lather and Nothing Else both Horton and
Tellez use symbolism to portray an overall theme of making difficult choices. In The Bicycle
Hannah has her life completely controlled by her Tante Rose. She has no freedom because she is
forbidden to break the Sabbath in anyway, and due to Tante Rose s previous traumatic
experience with a bicycle, she is absolutely forbidden to ride one. In the end, Hannah chooses to
go against her aunts wishes and rides a bicycle. She expresses that she wanted to prove she had
some control over her own life (Horton 35). The bicycle acts as a symbol of freedom; from
Hannah breaking the promise she made to her Tante Rose, to having control of her own life and
becoming who she wanted to be from the start. Likewise, in Lather and Nothing Else the barber
untimely had a choice of being a murderer or hero. The razor blade is one of the most important
symbols because it represents his choice of killing the captain or not. This was how the barber
would determine his future. He says, I was stropping my best blade . (Tellez 346). My fate hangs
on the edge of this razor blade . (Tellez 346). This was a big moral dilemma for the barber, and at
this point he was really choosing what kind of person he wanted to

The Art Of War By Sun Tzu Analysis
The Art of War written about 2,500 years ago in China by Sun Tzu, an intelligent Chinese general
and military strategist. The Art of War contain all of his advice on military tactics and war
strategies. For example, his philosophy stated, Now, when your weapons are dulled, your ardor
dampened, your strength exhausted and your treasure spent, other chieftains will spring up to take
advantage of your extremity. Then no man, however wise, will be able to avert the consequences
that must ensue (14). The Art of Warhas been commonly used by leaders and scholars. The Art of
War does not only show us amazing strategies to use in war but a new way of viewing and living
our lives. We can use all of Sun Tzu s basic principles and apply it to our everyday lives. For
instance, as a volleyballplayer, the values of not letting my strength to be exhausted, my ardor to
be dampened, treasure to be spent, and skill to be dull can be applied to my life.
Sun Tzu warning about not letting my strength to be exhausted could have helped me retaining my

Pollution of the Marine Environment
As per Article 1(4) of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea , 1982 (UNCLOS),
pollution of marine environment means the introduction by man, directly or indirectly, of
substances or energy into the marine environment, including estuaries, which results or is likely to
result in such a deleterious effect as to harm living resources and marine life, hazardous to human
health, hindrance to marine activities, including fishing and other legitimate uses of the sea,
impairment of quality for use of seawater and reduction of amenities.
Marine pollution is a serious ocean water resource challenge that can affect human and animal food
resources. Unfortunately human activities are the largest contributor and cause of problems
resulting from the oceans being polluted. Furthermore, as the human population continues to grow
and extend the range of its activities, as well as increase its demands for marine goods and
services, the world s oceans and coasts will be increasingly stressed. In fact, growing coastal
populations and overuse of marine resources are the main source of the problem. The pollution
linked with rising coastal populations, availability of inadequate treatment infrastructure of sewage
and other waste handling facilities is putting at risk human health and

this is when he writes, ВЁ Time doth transfix the flourish set on youth, And delves the parallels
in beauty s brow (Shakespeare 9 10). He gives this example of personification to help the
demonstrate how he views time and how it affects a person both physically and emotionally. He
views time as destructive and something that is not always good and he uses figurative language

  • 2. Sound Waves Lab To fully understand how to determine the velocity of sound in air, many concepts have to be understood prior to the experiment. Sound waves transmitted through a fluid are a type of longitudinal wave. These mechanical waves are formed when energy passes through a medium and moves particles in the same direction or parallel to the energy. The particles move in a series of high pressure and low pressure regions. The energy will compress some areas of the medium, creating a high pressure region. By completing the experiment in the exact same process one can determine the wavelength. Once the wavelength was determined using the temperature the speed could be calculated. Both wavelength and speed are variables in the velocity of sound formula (v = Ж›f ). Using algebra, frequency could be determined by substituting wavelength and speed. The percent error for this lab could have been affected by not accurately determining the point of which the sound reached its loudest point. If the peak of sound was not measured accurately, the experimental value would be off the actual measurement. This would effect the wavelength which would in turn directly affect the speed value because the frequency was a given, constant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Social Perspectives On Abortion And Abortion Social Perspectives on Abortion Angelica Haro California State University Fullerton Sociology 308, Fall 2015 Social Perspectives on Abortion Introduction The abortion question raises a number of issues that form the core of the abortion debate. Opponents and supporters of abortions have been battling over this particular problem for decades and still cannot come to an agreement. Being one of the most common and most controversial medical procedures, abortion tends to affect people on psychological and sociological levels. But while the discussion of the morality of abortion is an ongoing debate, the social issues surrounding abortion in most cases stay unnoticed. The social aspect of the issue is centered on the abortion policy. The main question of the abortion policy is whether the law should permit abortions and, if so under what circumstances. The other is whether the law should put the life of an unborn child first and legally protect it. The peculiarity of the abortion policy is that its measures are highly dependent on different public opinions. Pro life and pro choice arguments It is worth mentioning in the first place that the continuing debate over the abortion problem has always been based on two main opposing views. Nagan (1971) terms these viewpoints as the fetus oriented view and the female perspective (p. 288). To his mind, defining the status of the fetus as a human being or only as a potential human being best indicates polarity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Okonkwo tried to lead his people through British colonization, but the events he made during that time period ultimately lead to his demise. Although Okonkwois successful, he is considered a tragic herobecause of how important he was to his society and the fatal flaws he made that lead to his downfall. The killing showed that Okonkwo was afraid of being thought as weak. Okonkwo did not kill purposely all the time though. At a funeral for one of the village elders, Okonkwo s gun had exploded and killed the elder s son.(124) This led to Okonkwo being banished to his mother s land for 7 years. After the 7 years, he returned to his home clan and saw that the English and Christianity had changed Umuofia tremendously. Okonkwo began to despise the new people and the new religion. His hate for the new people caused him to kill another person. Okonkwo was so furious, His machete descended twice , he had killed one of the Englishmen in his clan.(204) This was the breaking point. • 6. A Love Story Not a Love Story Oh my gosh, it s Ru Emerson! A girl screamed out. Commotion rippled across the campus as a hoard of girls started gathering around a particular spot. Ru Emerson was quite used to this and casually dismissed the girls. Sorry girls, another day! Ru shouted as he grinned, since many girls were asking him if he was free or had football practice that day. In a split second, the girls dispersed with disappointed looks on their faces, knowing that they could never have a chance with a campus football star. Ru always knew he had dashing good looks, as he was quite proud of his thick, jet black hair, his cloudy grey eyes, and his toned body. On top of all that, he had a great charm. While silently adoring himself, Ru made his way to the Starbucks on campus to treat himself to an iced coffee. As he was strolling along the pathway, he looked up at the clear, blue sky, watching a few birds fly by. On his left, he spotted a few more kooky girls who were crazy for him, so he ducked his head and stared at the patterned brick path beneath his feet, and kept walking. Ru eventually reached the familiar glass door at Starbucks and pushed forward with his head still lowered. Suddenly, he felt something hit his chest and saw a pile of textbooks on his feet. Ru immediately raised his head, only to find a girl with her hands and knees on the ground. Their gaze met each other for a few seconds, then Ru instinctively bent down to help the girl pick up her books. He noticed the faint smell of cigarettes. I m terribly sorry, I didn t mean to do that, Ru said apologetically, I just wasn t watching where I was going. Totally my fault. The girl nodded timidly but was too shocked to say anything and just kept staring at Ru. Here you are, Miss. Lenora. Ru chirped as he handed her stack of textbooks back. Lenora was almost too bewildered to speak. The man in front of her was too beautiful. She was already lost in his captivating grey eyes, his bold, straight eyebrows, and his alluring tinted lips. • 7. Ethical Values From The Book The Dispossessed Written By... What is ethics? It is a code of conduct that a human being lives by. Being ethical makes life a bit easier and simpler because of the boundaries and code of conduct we set for our selves. Many authors implement their own ethical values into their stories, which sometimes give the reader an insight into the kind of person the author is. Making references to an article by Daniel P Jaeckle, I will be analyzing the three ethical values from the book The Dispossessed written by Ursula K. LeGuin, that have been layered together in a way that it creates interpersonal ethics, ethics of mutual aid, ethics of shared pain, and ethics of the bond, designed to meet the needs of an anarchist society. Anarchism is a philosophy based on voluntary... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Only weakness. (Ch. 7) In his article, Jaeckle hints that LeGuin borrowed this ethical value from the work of a Russian anarchist Peter Kropotkin. It can be said that Shevek increases the variety of the sociality to species way beyond human beings. He calls this so called species social species . The fact that he does this is so important because it signifies that being social is not something that is religiously necessary or related to someone s past. Being social or anti social can occur at any age through out someone s life. From the above quote, Shevek s dialogue can be perceived as an interpretation of Darwin s principle the survival of the fittest. Yes, it is somewhat true that people who are social are the strongest and those who are anti social are weak, only because the social species know how to get around people and the anti social ones are too afraid to speak to anyone else, hence they sometimes get into trouble even if they didn t mean to. How does this relate to ethics? Well, according to the quote above, a competitive society that focuses on domination rather than equality will commit an unethical blunder. This blunder will lead to misunderstanding of the importance of the forces that moves humanity and the other social species forward and to evolution. Where does mutual aid come into play here? How is mutual aid connected to the social species? It is rather simple. Most social species tend to live ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this novel music plays a role in the development of the story and characters. The different creatures songs vary in tone, content, and structure that reveal many things about the magical creatures. First, after the dwarves or the unexpected party arrived they sang a song about an adventure that they would ask Bilbo to join and what it was about. The tone of the song was to persuade and inspire Bilbo to agree to go. For example the dwarves sand, Far over the Misty Mountainscold. This line was repeated multiple times in the song and caused Bilbo s Tookish side to want to see the great mountains and go on an adventure. The poem s content consisted of explaining the reasons to go on the adventure. They sung, To win our harps and gold from him. This explains that they must return to their ancestors land to win back the riches that were taken by Smaug. There also was a lot of rhyme in this song, Tolkien states the dwarves sing Far over the misty mountains cold To dungeons deep and caverns old We must away ere break of day To seek the pale and enchanted gold. Over time, our culture has shifted and caused for many conclusions regarding media panics and the relationship between youth and the media culture. Based upon previous knowledge and course readings, I have drawn a very disturbing conclusion; this being that no matter what age, children are willing or non willingly now under surveillance to determine what kind of role mediais playing in their lives. With what I have gathered from the readings and class lectures, most authors strongly believe that different forms of media directly influence children s thinking or perception. What authors and researchers... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The authors discuss the objectifying gaze, which I believe has a lot to do with how females are perceived with the usages of photo altering technology and online visual cultures. The theoretical framework of the objectification theory places female bodies in a sociocultural context with the aim of illuminating the lived experiences and mental health risks of girls and women who encounter sexual objectification (Frederickson Roberts, 174). The pose and the filter that a young woman chooses to enhance the beauty of her photo is argued to read just that, and it allows for others viewing them to assume their lived experiences, how these young women generally are, the practices they engage in, etc. What we tend to forget, especially in an age where digital culture is so prominent, is that a picture is a snapshot of a moment in time. According to Drotner (1999), the idea that new media has become a threat and a main cause of moral panics to young people is problematic because it infers that they are effected by what they are exposed to. This assumption of children, introduces to our society that every piece of media may be able to change them. What we are telling ourselves is that young people are followers and do not have a mind of their own; they are vulnerable, innocent and easily influenced. Media panics introduce the idea that there should be some sort of protection for children from the dangers media may introduce. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Summary Of Jhumpa Lahiri s The Namesake The first sentence of a novel, even a chapter, needs to leave a first impression. Jhumpa Lahiri in her novel The Namesake wields the first sentence in each of her chapters, so they build through her book in a far more significant way than just a first impression. Lahiri uses the first sentence of every chapter to further the plot development by clearly setting new scenes to transition to the new setting and sub purpose of the next chapter. To successfully set her scenes, she uses varying Syntax and rhetorical tools including imagery, short syntax with a focus, and grammatical mistakes. Of the different ways Lahiri sets her scenes, the first sentences that provide the most context are the ones that employ imagery and have a long syntax structure. Lahiri takes advantage of these sentences when the book is currently in a place with minimal conflict and the mood of the book is new and very different from what it was previously. The main goal is to develop what is currently a clean slate. The cleanest slate being the first chapter, which starts on a sticky August evening two weeks before her due date, Ashima Ganguli stands in the kitchen of a Central Square apartment, combining Rice Krispies and Planters peanuts and chopped red onion in a bowl (Lahiri 1). This sentence provides a who, what, when, where, and how, which covers almost all the basic context. The reader can now understand the scene, so the author could start describing actions going on in the scene. Another clean slate in The Namesake is the chapter after Gogol and Monshumi s wedding, and they attend a dinner party. Lahiri ends that section and it shifts to their anniversary; On the morning of their first anniversary, Monshumi s parents call, waking them, wishing them a happy anniversary before they ve had the chance to say it to each other (246). This sentence provides a who, what, when, where, and why, which sets a completely new scene. The long syntax allows for Lahiri to provide all this information, so the reader can start picturing the scene. In turn, this strategy creates a very solid transition to a completely different place and point of view to focus on. On the other hand, Lahiri uses short syntax with a very particular focus to start ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Grotesque Stereotypes We later used these characteristics of high status in a perverse male character obsessed with being with ever younger women to the point we parody him eventually masturbating a baby. We were able to challenge the common fetish of older men and the desire to make themselves look younger. The purpose of these scenes was to make the audience unable to ignore the message we were projecting; an understanding that our position in society is only defined relative to those we consider to be lesser or greater than our own. By forcing the audience to consider their roles in these relationships it becomes an easy step for them to see their place in a wider flawed system as noted from the lecturer s course material, absent target eg the establishment , personal target eg the audience (Taaffe 2015 2016) Whilst I had very little knowledge of Grotesque or Bouffon as theatrical art forms before starting the module, I had quickly become ... • 21. The Community Mental Health Centers Act Of 1963 Closed... Many years ago, mental illness was viewed as a demonic possession or a religious punishment. In the 18th century, the attitudes towards mental illness were negative and persistent. This negativity leads to the stigmatization and confinement of those who were mentally ill. The mentally ill were sent to mental hospitals that were unhealthy and dangerous. A push in the mid 1950s for deinstitutionalization began because of activists lobbying for change. Dorothea Dix was one of these activists that helped push for change. The change called for more community oriented care rather than asylum based care. The Community Mental Health Centers Act of 1963 closed state psychiatric hospitals throughout the United States. Only individuals who posed an imminent danger to themselves or someone else could be committed to state psychiatric hospitals (A Brief History of Mental Illness and the U.S. Mental Health Care System). Deinstitutionalization meant to improve quality of life and treatment for those who are mentally ill. This would hopefully result in the mentally ill receiving treatment so they could live more independently. The hope was that community mental health programs would provide this treatment but sadly there was not sufficient or ongoing funding to meet the growing demand for these programs. • 22. The Influence Of Dark Knight Returns On Cultural... Another way in which Batman displays himself as a Byronic hero is his function as a subversive character which refuses to submit to demonic forces. He tries to appear to be a man who is morally upright. However, Batman is unable to separate himself from the pain of his parents untimely death, which gives him a new identity as a mysterious masked crime fighter. In most books and films, he tries to put this tragic incident behind him without much success. As Peter J. Tomasi indicates, instead we see a presentation of Batman s powers by exacting strange acts in the name of justice like teleporting hotheaded (1). Another work by Crutcher emphasizes that Many Lives of the Batman and Batman Unmasked are bought in three areas: popular culture studies, popular culture as it relates to marketing and consumerism, and the nature of the comic publishing industry. Most writers have examined the impact of Dark Knight Returns on cultural consciousness, politics, and so on. This antihero construction sparks centuries old dialogues on ethics, the kind of business that comprises the bulk of Batman. The complexities and graphics in the novel and comic of Batman have been defined as his duality with his villains (Crutcher 66). Due to popularity and the existence of Batman, people began using the Batman symbol as paraphernalia on personal belongings such as clothing, equipment, and supplies. Byronic hero is said to be intelligent, cunning and able to adapt, mysterious as well as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

David Malouf s novel Fly Away Peter charts out the life of protagonist, Jim Sadler. Jim Sadler starts the novel as an innocent young man who lives on the Coast of Queensland. As Jim shows his love and appreciation for birds, he ends up getting a job at a sanctuary owned by Ashley Crawthaw. His job was to watch for the birds that migrated to and from the sanctuary. Throughout the novel the readers are taken on the journey that Jim faces, from the innocence of a young adult to the horror and brutality of the war. At the beginning of the novel the audience is introduced to Jim while he is gazing in the far distance to where the swamp ended and the farmlands began(Malouf, D. Pg.1). Jim s love for birds was strong, everything about them just amazed him he could sit for hours and watch them while naming each as he proceeded into the day. By being in the sanctuary, Jim is protected from the harsh reality of the outside world. Having grown up in the country, he is oblivious to how cruel the world is. Once exposing himself to the outside world and goes to the town centre, without much awareness regarding the war, he feels pressured to join the War Effort. Jim is aware of the need to extend his experiences within life and acknowledges the changes that war will certainly bring. My past patient went to hemodialysis at 7:45 right after I got report and introduced myself to her as my student nurse. I was able to go see her in hemodialysis. Because of his aggression towards animals and people, the destruction of property, deceitfulness, and serious rule violations, Henry is diagnosed with Conduct Disorder (CD) (American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, 12/10/09). Throughout the movie Henry demonstrates all of these characteristics. He shattered windows on an old warehouse by throwing rocks. Henry also shot and killed a dog and showed no remorse in doing so. This shows just how maladaptive or out of touch with the world Henry was. As I pointed out earlier, Henry was a very intelligent and manipulative child. He convinced his parents and other elders around him to believe that he was the perfect child and tried turning them against his cousin Mark. He even had Mark s doctor believing that Mark had a problem. According to (American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, 12/10/09) both of these events are characteristics of (CD). Furthermore, Henry s behavior is very atypical. This can be seen when Henry reveals the crossbow that he personally made. Then Henry proceeds to show Mark how it works by firing it and nearly missing a cat. When Marks said that it was close to hitting the cat, Henry responded by saying yeah the scopes not dialed in yet , meaning that the whole time Henry was aiming to kill the cat. However, this does not stop Henry. The next day, after fixing the scope, Henry aims at a dog, shoots and kills it.
