I Sailed Through The Trees And Towards Reason
I Sailed through the Trees and Towards Reason. Sent sailing in the air and over the ditch. The
wheels are out of control. I effortlessly hit five mailboxes, a sign, while being tossed back and
forth through several trees like a ball in a pinball machine. Branches whacking me in the face
through my broken windows, until finally I came to this life alternating moment, was this it?
Then, right before my car hit headfirst into its last tree and finally it came to a stop. I took a
deep breathe. Then, I looked around and realized that I was alive. I opened my door and took a
staggered few steps outside the car. I yelled for help because I couldn t seem to find all the
pieces of my phone. Everything is my car was tossed around and broken. My car looked like it
had been hammered all around. There was no way I could drive it now and the windows busted
out on each side. I stood there and asked myself, how am I in such good condition when my car
is completely totaled. It s the realization that I could have died today and I did not. Many people
get killed in car accidents, after my accident, I learned how significant it was to pay more
consideration to the vehicle I had on the road and its maintenance. Now I am more conscious of
my car s necessities. Here are some things I pay more attention to now that I have had this accident.

Synaptic Activity Is Vital For The Passage Of Information...
Synaptic activity is vital for the passage of information throughout the nervous system, as it allows
for electrical impulses to be passed from one neuron to another. Electrical impulses in the form of
action potentials are passed through the axon of a neuron towards the axon terminal. This
information is then passed across the synaptic cleft to receptors present on the postsynaptic
membrane via the process of neurotransmission. Drugs can interrupt this specific process in a
variety of ways such as through affecting the production, storage and release of neurotransmitters,
the presynaptic and postsynaptic receptors as well as the reuptake and destruction of
neurotransmitters (Carlson, 2014). Selective SerotoninReuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) and Monoamine
Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) are just two types of drugs which can affect different pathways in this
process of neurotransmission. In doing so, the neurotransmitterserotonin is made more available
within the central nervous system (CNS), a neurotransmitter believed to be central to the affective
disorder of depression, which is caused by a deficiency of serotonin.
The process of neurotransmission begins with an action potential. An action potential can be
described as the brief electrical impulse that provides the basis for conduction of information along
an axon (Carlson, 2014), and is determined by the movement of ions through ion channels in or out
of a cell, depending on the permeability of the membrane, forces of

The Problem Of Community College Students
I, like many new LaGuardia students, would walk around campus with my head down in
disappointment with myself. Every time somebody asked where I went to school I would cringe
and respond softly LaGuardia Community College and would get a response like oh that s good
as if to spare my feelings. Unfortunately, LaGuardia like many other community colleges
nationwide have a negative connotation associated with them because they are the institutions that
accept those students that did not make it to other private or public universities. Or those students
that were hit the hardest with life. It would be wrong to not point out the socioeconomic
disparity of those who attend schools like LaGuardia where 61.8% of students who live with
their families have a family income of under $25,000 a year. I fall under this demographic and am
also an underrepresented minority as a Latino of Colombian background. This is the story of how I
let my curiosity lead me to success and how I let go of the misconception that community college
students were unable to achieve.
When I enrolled in LaGuardia I was 2 years removed from high school and had no clear academic
direction. I signed up for one of the first semester cluster courses that were centered around a topic
that I found genuinely interesting called Globalization: You and The World. That was my first
great decision because I was met with an abundance of great professors and peers. The cluster
course catalyzes peer to peer

The Pros And Cons Of Senior Relocation
When the time comes when your elderly parents are no longer able to live on their own,
broaching the topic of relocating them to an assisted living facility or smaller place can be
difficult. No child wants to make their mom or dad leave their home, but it becomes a realistic
situation as elderly parents become less able to take care of their home and themselves. After you
have this discussion with your parents, you need a senior relocation company like Caring
Transitions of South West Denver Metro in Colorado that will help move your parents and all of
their belongings in an organized and caring manner.
Once it is time to have the discussion about senior relocation in your family, here are some tips to
make it easier on everyone involved:

Analysis Of Dances With Wolves
The Easterners and Native Americans were thought to live vastly different lifestyles. Most
Easterners were much like John Dunbar, a decorated American lieutenant. They had a desire to see
the American frontier before it vanished from their steady expansion out West. However, Native
Americans inhabited what many regarded as the American frontier, and they along with their tribe
vowed to protect their land from the white men who would only continue to come and ravish the
land. Native Americans are indigenous to the Americas and were not simply curious about
expansion, but rather adamant about protecting the land that had been theirs for years before the
white men came about (Treuer 18). After his display of bravery in war, Lieutenant John J. Dunbar,
regarded as a decorated American hero by his fellow soldiers, set out for the American frontier, later
settling into an abandoned post near an Indian reservation with the help of Timmons, who spewed
his thoughts of the Native Americans to his passenger. Timmons argued the Native Americans were
nothing more than savage thieves and beggars. In Kevin Costner s film, Dances with Wolves, we
see the representation of Native Americans through the use various framing of scenes and
costuming as well as the producer s thoughts on the treatment and representation of Indians. Costner
uses Lieutenant John Dunbar to display the representation of Native Americans in the American
culture seen primarily through the frames that also depict the

Causes Of Drug Legalization
In the United States, we have many conflicts such as discrimination, war between other counties,
and most importantly the debate of drug legalization. The reason for the debate/conflict on drug
legalization is because of timely matter. For an example, Colorado and Washington have passed
laws for the legalizing the recreational use of marijuana (Rosenkraz, 2016). The United Stateshas
been fighting a war with drugfor 41 years. The estimated costs so far is about 2.5 trillion dollars
(Dovan, 2016). Therefore, that information shows why Americans are debating about the
legalization of drugs. Many Americans do not favor the cause of drug legalization, but there are
minority who disagree. I am one of the minority whom does favor the cause of drug legalization.
My goal in this paper is to give my opinion and information to show why I do favor the legalization
of drugs.
In the article, 14 Years After Decriminalizing All Drugs, Here s What Portugal Looks Like, it
discussed how Portuguese government decriminalized all drugs. The country of Portugal has been
under the decriminalization for fourteen years now and stated that they have been doing better
than ever before (Zeeshanaleem, 2016). For example, there is no intense increase in crime for
drug use. The number of people arrested and sent to criminal courts for drug offenses declined by
more than 60 percent since decriminalization. (Drug Policy Alliance, 2015). The number of
criminal court cases have decreased because the use

Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant
KOODANKULAM NUCLEAR POWER PLANT
Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant is a nuclear power station currently under construction in
Koodankulam in the Tirunelveli district of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Project
investment cost to India was estimated to be US$ 3.5 billion in a 2001 agreement.
History
An Inter Governmental Agreement on the project was signed on November 20, 1988 by Prime
Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev. The project remained in limbo for
10 years due to political and economic upheaval in Russia after the post 1991 Soviet breakup, and
also due to objections of the United States on the grounds that the agreement does not meet the
1992 terms of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).[2]

Adaptive Servo Ventilation this makes use of a computer to monitor breathing patterns and creates
increased air pressure if breathing becomes abnormal. This is one of the latest and probably more
successful sleep apnea treatment options for CSA.

Structural Funcionalism, Conflict Theory, and Symbolic...
In this paper, I will discuss three different schools of thought that, while they may seem to explain
the inner workings of society, by themselves they fail to satisfy completely. For each theory, I will
discuss the basics and cover the main tenants of each. Then, I will discuss the ambiguities,
inadequacies and irrelevance to reality based on our current understanding of modern society.
Structural Functionalism In the Functionalist School of Thought, society is viewed as being a
complex structure of inter related parts, analogous to a living being, with many different organs
contributing to the daily functioning and health of the entire organism. From evolving societies
still going through the processes of differentiation of social... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

If we are to look at society as a super organism, then we have to accept that conflict is a vital part
of any organisms future development and evolution. Humans weren t put on this earth
perfected; through biological conflict with the environment and disease, we have evolved into
what we are now. While still not perfect, evolution is still taking place. The same is true for
societies. No one society was born perfect. Society has evolved from the same analogous process
of trial and error, success and failure. While not all conflict is productive, it is necessary to the
evolution of society. Functionalism all but ignores this aspect. Conflict Theory Where the
positivist theory of Structural Functionalism focuses on the rigidity and stability of society,
conflict theories focus on the chaotic, negative and unequal aspects. This perspective is
constructed from the numerous hypotheses of Karl Marx, who saw society as intrinsically
broken, and constantly in a state of disarray with social groups competing for a limited amount
of social capitol and economic resources. According to Marx, society is constructed around two
classes of people: the ruling class and the subject class. Those in the ruling class have a
disproportionately large control over all resources, and use this power to subjugate the lower
classes. This ensures that the ruling class never gives up power, due to the fact that the lower
classes have to struggle to obtain

Organelles In Animal Cells Essay
Organelles are the internal structures of the cell that are important for the cell to survive. Each
organelle has a specific function for the cell. The types of organelles in the cell can be different
from each other depending on the type of cell. Plant cells and animal cells both have a cytoskeleton,
endoplasmic reticulum(smooth and rough), golgi apparatus, mitochondrion, nucleus, plasma
membrane, and ribosomes. Animal and plant cells also have vacuoles, but they are rarely found
in animal cells. Vacuoles in animal cells are very small compared to the vacuoles in plant cells.
Lysosomes are also rarely found in plant cells but mostly found in animal cells. The cytoplasm is a
semifluid in the plasma membrane. It is in all eukaryotic cells. In prokaryotes, this is where the
chemical processes of the celltake place. In eukaryotic cells, this is where organelles perform
their functions. Cellular respiration also takes place here. One of stages of cellular respiration is
glycolysis. Glycolysis is when glucose breaks down to form two pyruvates and 4 ATP. Its net
result of 2 ATP is important for another process called the Krebs Cycle. This process is important
because it begins cellular respiration. The cytoplasm also gives the cell its shape; without it, the cell
would be deflated and substances would not be able to move throughout the cell. Organelles would
have difficulty functioning too. It has been misunderstood that organelles float freely in the
cytoplasm even

Apple Vs. Samsung Galaxy Essay
Of all of the possible answers to the question of why Apple fans are willing to pay so much, the
most intuitive one would be to say that Apple products are simply better than the rest. This may
have indeed been the case for many of Apple s older products. The iPhone, as many remember,
was revolutionary at the time, owning around 30% of the US market share a little over a year
after its release (Elmer Dewitt 2008). Similarly, the iPad was far bigger than any of its rival
tablets for years. This, however, may not be the case anymore. As more and more products like
the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Microsoft Surface have come to compete with Apple s famous
products, it becomes increasingly unclear which products are better. Yet still, apple maintains its
dedicated fans. Here the hardware capabilities of Apple s computers, phones, and tablets will be
compared to that of their competition, and the software that drives this technology will be
analyzed in order to show what factor it might play in the popularity of Apple products. Apple s
oldest products are of course Mac computers. Although we see and hear about Mac computers
everywhere, from movies to commercials, the mac computer still holds a somewhat small
portion of the global PC market share. Mac computers held only 7.4% of the PC market share in
the 3rd Quarter of 2016, while other companies like Lenovo and HP each owned a little over 20%
of the market share over the same quarter (Campbell 2016). Yet still, Apple manages to grab a

Pros And Cons Of Affirmative Action
Affirmative action and any race positive policies should be dismantled; I disagree with affirmative
action. Better stated from the debate question: like Jim Crow, affirmative action is invidious racial
discrimination. Affirmative action should take the path similarly to that taken in California become
abolished. Affirmative actiondoes discriminate on a racial level. Affirmative action implies that
minorities cannot achieve a certain goal without the help of a race positive policy, which is
invidious racial discrimination. While policies developed to create diversity may (or may not) bring
in diversity, the policies are damaging and create a second class minority degree. (Scalia, 1979)

(Liu, 2002) For Bakke, the chances of being admitted are increased if affirmative action was not
in place. For example, 60 percent black applicants who scored 1200 1249 on the SAT were
accepted, compared to 19 percent of white applicants. For those who scored 1250 1299 on the

Commercial Fishing In New England
Commercial fishing in New England is not sustainable. Commercial fishing is the catching of fish
for profit and, as with other profit making activities, there are trade offs between a pure capitalistic
market and the damage it does to resources. For commercial fishing, this trade off is that the more
fishthe fishermen catch, the more damage it does to the fish population. To make commercial fishing
sustainable, large regulations need to be in place, as Jack said. However, large regulations of a
free market are usually not accepted in America and would not be put in place in time to save the
fish and sustain commercial fishing.
The population of many fish species have decreased drastically through the years and, even with
current regulations, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The definition of Capitalism according to Merriam Webster is an economic system characterized
by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private
decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by
competition in a Free Market. This means that the free market, or in this case commercial fishing,
is not controlled by the government because that is the definition of capitalism. Having big
restrictions on fishing would be seen as a restriction of the free market. Although regulations are put
on the free market, the size of regulations needed to sustain fish population and save commercial
fishing would not be tolerated by many political parties. The regulations would never be put in
place. Unless America changes its capitalist view, the large regulations needed to sustain
commercial fishing will not happen.
The changes needed for sustainable fishing are too big and do not fit with America s view of the
economic system. Unfortunately, without these changes, the fish population will continue to
decline. So, you can see that sustainable fishing in new England is not possible. Although New
England and the US cannot have sustainable fishing because of their capitalistic values, as shown
throughout history their values may

Who Is Responsible For Gregor s Transformation
Grete s shifting feelings, actions, and thoughts toward Gregor makes her go through her own
transformation. This transformation which she goes through is a central theme in the story. Grete
goes from being a powerless child to a decision making women. Gregor s transformation leads to
his inevitable downfall (death) and Grete s transformation ends in the power and responsibility
which Gregor once held.
After Gregor s metamorphosis in the second chapter of the story, Grete is the only one who tries
to show any affection or care for Gregor during his time of nice and she really shows that she is
truly trying her best to understand and sympathize with what Gregor is going through. Gregor s
father is, however, still very violent towards Gregor because of his change, and Gregor s mother is
still frightened by his appearance. His mother won t even stand to see him. Grete is the only one
who tries and looks past Gregor s change, even though she is still obviously afraid of his new
appearance. She is also the only one to take responsibility for Gregor now that he can not care
for himself. She feeds him and tries to give him foods that he has a newfound interest in (Kafka

which foods he now likes to his sister. During the second chapter, Grete is not only the unofficial

Jamaican immigrants bought this foreign music style to New York and soon after became a

for being one of the very first Hip Hop artists and a pioneer. He bought the art of scratching to

Video Games And Its Effects On Children
In the past, when a child was bored they went outside to play, they created new games, or they
played with friends. But, for the past three decades, video games and other digital media have
been persuading many adolescents and children to spend the majority of their time playing
them. Video games seem to satisfy children s natural need to interact socially, however more
often than not, they lead to social isolation. Overexposure to digital media, such as video games
is detrimental to the health and function of a child s brain in the areas of empathy, impulse
control, and social interaction. Video games began their ascent to the top of our children s
priority list for in the early 1990s, and there does not appear to be a peak of popularity any time
soon. Digital media and video games used to be a reward for a child that has attained a goal;
now video games tend to be the immediate go to solution for a child s boredom. Occasionally,
they are sought out by weary parents trying to entertain or rid themselves of an annoying child.
Society does not seem to understand the ramifications of overuse of this form of entertainment.
Spending hours upon hours of a day playing video games is not a benign activity, new research is
being conducted every day that illustrates the effects of excessive exposure to digital media and
video games, and it suggests that the effects are significantly harmful. Excessive exposure can lead
to the desensitization of the adolescent to real

How Does Technology Affect Independent Films
How has the role of technology affected independent films and their film making process?
The distribution of film has changed phenomenally during the last 10 years. Independent film is an
area of production where filmmakers produce their films independently, outside of the studio
system. Many argue that cultural value is taken from independent films whereas commercial
releases follow the same narrative structure. Often, mainstream cinema will follow a common
narrative arc which fits into the equilibrium theory e.g. Protagonist is faced with a challenge, a
stage of disequilibrium occurs, equilibrium is restored and the film has a traditional happy ending.
Independent film s niche audiences enjoy the creative freedom that comes with genre. This freedom
has been extended by new technology, giving filmmakers the ability to fulfil their artistic vision.
Advances in technical equipment have benefitted the film making process for independent
directors, who are now able to create high quality films on a low budget. In addition to advances in

Theoretical Perspectives On Asset Price Bubbles
Asset prices are a key determinant of economic activity, impacting both consumption and private
investment. Consequently, fluctuations in asset prices, especially the bursting of bubbles, can have
significant adverse effects on the aggregate economy. This was most recently demonstrated by the
bursting of the US sub prime mortgage bubble and the ensuing financial crisis. Furthermore, asset
prices in Australia have recently been in the spotlight, as there are concerns about a potential real
estate bubble developing in some metropolitan centres. This paper will outline the theoretical
perspectives on asset price bubbles and explain historic examples. The insights from this analysis
can be applied to analyse whether a bubble is developing in... Show more content on

However, these theories only apply to assets with infinite lives (land and shares), as investors know
that assets with finite terms will be redeemed for a specified value at maturity and this limits their
secondary market price. According to Froot and Obstfeld, bubbles result from investors incorrectly
estimating fundamentals. For example, shareholders may be unable to forecast industry changes
that affect future profitability and are forced to condition expectations of future cash flows on
current payments. This intrinsic rational bubble theory explains several empirical observations,
including why share prices over react to dividend changes.
New Rational Models and Misaligned Incentives
These models emphasise the role of incentives in promoting bubbles. Key insights from these
studies are that bubbles may be propagated by herding behaviour among financial intermediaries,
distortions in the data distributed by information agencies and limited liability.
According to Lamont and Frazzoni, investors tend to allocate funds towards intermediaries
investing in high sentiment markets, thereby forcing managers to perpetuate bubbles. This
behaviour was a significant contributor to the dotcom bubble observed between 1997 and 2000. It
has also been highlighted that the reputation of a financial intermediary is correlated with the
performance of

History Of The North American Free Trade Agreement Essay
The NAFTA Controversy The purpose of this document is to explore the history of the North
American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the effects NAFTA has had on Canada, the United
States of America (specifically American labor and job market) and Mexico. It will also delve into
the current state of NAFTA, the advantages and disadvantages to American economy and what the
future holds for this historic trade agreement. NAFTA has effected many parts of the world and not
just the three countries who originally signed the agreement. It has caused several negative effects
for many, especially citizens of the United States; but what evidence is there of this claim. Before
jumping into the evidence for or against NAFTA, let s look at the history as this will bring some
perspective to the event. The roots of NAFTA stretch back well before its signing in induction in
1994. Many believe that the true origin of the idea of having a free trade agreement with
Northern, and Central America began with the signing of the Trade and Tariff Act in 1984 in the
USA congress. The Trade and Tariff Act was important as it lent the President of the United States
of America the ability to expedite the process of creating trade deals, leaving the USA Congress
the opportunity to approve or disapprove the proposal. This idea was pushed by Ronald Reagan and
passed. Reagan then began collaborating with the then Canadian Prime Minister, Brian Mulroney,
who signed an agreement of free trade between

The Pros And Cons Of Universal Health Care
The notion of universal health care leads to a diminished flourishing society is one of the many
unsubstantiated reasons why the United States cannot offer universal health care. Universal health
care is a government funded national health care delivery system, which has succeeded in high
income industrialized nations like the United Kingdom. While the United Kingdom ranked 9th in
overall health care systems and the United States 17th, the Organization for Economic Cooperation
and Development (OECD) reported United States health care expenditures are exceedingly more
than that of other high income countries (Bentley et al., 2017). This suggests that affordability is
not the sole issue preventing the United States government from adopting a universal health care
model. Despite their exceedingly high health care expenditures, the United States population suffers
greater morbidity and mortality of preventable conditions than the United Kingdom
population(Bentley et al., 2017).The UNITED STATES health care infrastructure is very unique
compared to the United Kingdom, regardless of their similarities in health care delivery.
While the United Kingdom has a single payer system, which give them control of the marketplace,
the UNITED STATES has adopted a multiplayer system that consists of various private and
government sponsored health insurance options. Approximately 85% of the UNITED STATES
population has health insurance, either private (67.2%) or government sponsored

Building Codes Analysis
The practice of building codes is to ensure the safety, structural stability and health. Through the
years many codes have been imposed to fix problems have occurred in the construction of the
building or after it been constructed. Building codes are interpenetrated different depending on the
location it s being built. This is due to local officials of the area who have the power to change
codes or arrange than to meet the requirement for the area. The reason every country, state, and the
city have their own way to interpenetrate codes differently is because the buildingmust adapt to the
surrounding area. When the architectbeing designing a set of drawing not only does he or she has
to meet all the requirement for the building itself but the requirement needed to build in the area.
For example, a building in Colorado and a building in Florida will have different codes in place
that give the building many characteristics. One code that would be different is frost line this
mean how depth the ground doesn t freeze in the winter. Since Colorado tend to be very cold in
winter reaching low temperature the frost line will be deeper than Florida that stays warm all most
all year. According to Allen, E., Iano, J. (2013). Local code officials regulate accredited

Forgetfulness By Billy Collins Analysis
With the two poems The Dead and Forgetfulness written by Billy Collins, I was drawn to these
two poems more than the others. When it comes to any poem I prefer the poems that allow me to
imagine what is going on. They need to have well thought out imagery. With The Dead and
Forgetfulness they both allow me to really imagine what is happening. They both use metaphors
while doing this. With imagery, they both show me with humans being alive we forget to easily
but when we are dead we cannot forget, we see it all. In Billy Collins s poems The Dead and
Forgetfulness, the imagery and diction help shape the ideas of the poem, the animations help to tie

The tone is just different than what I was hearing. When I first read it the tone was not sad,
when I heard the poem in somebody else s voice and watching it the tone was sad. I don t think
that it is a bad thing that the tone was changed, it just makes me think more about the poem and
how the tone can really affect what is happening within the poem. Some of the differences that I
noticed when reading is I have a different voice in my head while reading not really my voice just
the voice of the speaker in the poem. When listening to the poem with a different voice then I
expected it just felt different. Then with the animations in Forgetfulness by Julian Grey I think it
enhanced the poem just listening to it and watching it made me enjoy the poem better. I
understood the poem better while watching everything happen in the poem. With this poem, there
was a difference in reading it I almost didn t understand it as well as listening to the poem and

Malcolm Knowles Andragogy
Executive Summary:
This paper is a research on Malcolm Knowles topic andragogy . Knowles describes andragogy as
the art and science of adult learning. Andragogy focuses on special needs od adults learners, he
classifies these need into six different categories: (1) need to know, (2) self concept, (3) prior
experience, (4) readiness to learn, (5) learning orientation, and (6) motivation to learn.
Adults have special needs as learners and these needs should be taken into consideration when
planning training for adults. When adults participate in a positive learning experience that follows
the six assumptions of andragogy presented in this paper, they are more likely to retain what they
have learned and apply it in their work environment.
Qantas
Introduction:
As a HR graduate, through research and examination it was found that Knowles Andragogy is the
best way for adults to learn. Every group contains a configuration of idiosyncratic personalities,
differing past experiences, current orientations, levels of readiness for learning, and individual
learning styles. Thus trainers should be wary of prescribing any standardized approach to
facilitating learning (Brookfield 1986). Understanding the six assumptions in andragogy prepares
facilitators to create successful training. Qantas What is Andragogy?
Malcolm Shepherd Knowles (1913 1997) was an American educator well known for the use of the
term Andragogy as synonymous to the adult education.

The Adopt-A-Rock Project
THE GAME OF STONES: KYANITE QUARTZITE

Above all the poor class shouldn t have to be beaten or looked down upon even if they don t

though money and the lack of it were the main themes in Orwell s essay joy is something else
that is important to consider especially because that s what Orwell called this essay. Orwell

Descriptive Essay Angel
Hello, Angel, you re looking beautiful as always, Angelo greets me the second I walk through the
door. Is that another dress your boss bought you?
Stunned by his observations and his memory of my dresses, it takes me a moment to reply. Yes, it
is. I flatten out the wrinkles in my dress from the taxi ride over.
It s a lot like the one you wore for your audition, isn t it?
It s very similar. I suppose I should come clean, that first dress belonged to Alice, but now I have
my own.
Blue suits you, it matches your eyes. He reaches out to glide his fingertips along the side of my face.
It matches your tie. Though it sits perfectly on his shirt, I adjust the knot of his tie nonetheless.
Once I realise our inappropriate behaviour, I retract my hand, cupping it to my chest with it s
behaving twin. I promised myself the whole ride over I would not allow him to flirt with me, yet
here I am, flirting right back! I avert my gaze, staring down at my hands, and reprimand myself for
our interaction. Wait one second, I gaze back up at him, you called me Angel, again. Why?
Why not?
I mean, why Angel?
He leans in close enough for his fragrance to imbue my nostrils, leaving me light headed. His lips
caress my ear as he whispers, Your perfume.
Though I heard what he said, I can t bring forth the words to respond. Instead, I turn my face just
a little towards his, my lips only an inch away. The mischievous grin appears as he retracts, our

Yuik Tribe Research Paper
The Yurok tribe, although mostly assimilated in present times, has continued to thrive and protect

the hands of western culture. The Yurok went from being a thriving people, to being assimilated,
almost to the point of ethnocide, (Kottak) and finally forced to live in a small area that was once a

they face politically and socially, and what the tribe is doing to combat these issues.
In the past, the Yurok did not have an active political system or form of social control. (Kottak)
There was no one man to lead the tribe; they did not practice chiefdom. Nevertheless, the Yurok
simply had a set of principles to which the tribe would adhere to. An example of one of these

Reproduction technologies had an impact on the evolution of electro acoustic equipment. Schaeffer
s piece Etude aux Chemins (1948) was one of the first electronic compositions of the 20th century,
which became very influential to modern day sampling. Corporations responsible for the creation
of musical instruments in early 20th century had no vocation for economic suicide (p.7 Simon
Emmerson, 1986), this led to them only adjusting existing instruments, therefore it was not viable
for the creation of new inventions; it was not in their best interests. Our civilization sees itself too
smugly in the mirror of history; it is no longer creating the needs which would make renewal an

new styles of vernacular music. This technological innovation laid the foundations for new

  • 2. I Sailed Through The Trees And Towards Reason I Sailed through the Trees and Towards Reason. Sent sailing in the air and over the ditch. The wheels are out of control. I effortlessly hit five mailboxes, a sign, while being tossed back and forth through several trees like a ball in a pinball machine. Branches whacking me in the face through my broken windows, until finally I came to this life alternating moment, was this it? Then, right before my car hit headfirst into its last tree and finally it came to a stop. I took a deep breathe. Then, I looked around and realized that I was alive. I opened my door and took a staggered few steps outside the car. I yelled for help because I couldn t seem to find all the pieces of my phone. Everything is my car was tossed around and broken. My car looked like it had been hammered all around. There was no way I could drive it now and the windows busted out on each side. I stood there and asked myself, how am I in such good condition when my car is completely totaled. It s the realization that I could have died today and I did not. Many people get killed in car accidents, after my accident, I learned how significant it was to pay more consideration to the vehicle I had on the road and its maintenance. Now I am more conscious of my car s necessities. Here are some things I pay more attention to now that I have had this accident. The mistakes we tend to make as young adult drivers. These are some things to take into account from my mistakes during my accident and to use them to make ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Synaptic Activity Is Vital For The Passage Of Information... Synaptic activity is vital for the passage of information throughout the nervous system, as it allows for electrical impulses to be passed from one neuron to another. Electrical impulses in the form of action potentials are passed through the axon of a neuron towards the axon terminal. This information is then passed across the synaptic cleft to receptors present on the postsynaptic membrane via the process of neurotransmission. Drugs can interrupt this specific process in a variety of ways such as through affecting the production, storage and release of neurotransmitters, the presynaptic and postsynaptic receptors as well as the reuptake and destruction of neurotransmitters (Carlson, 2014). Selective SerotoninReuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) and Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) are just two types of drugs which can affect different pathways in this process of neurotransmission. In doing so, the neurotransmitterserotonin is made more available within the central nervous system (CNS), a neurotransmitter believed to be central to the affective disorder of depression, which is caused by a deficiency of serotonin. The process of neurotransmission begins with an action potential. An action potential can be described as the brief electrical impulse that provides the basis for conduction of information along an axon (Carlson, 2014), and is determined by the movement of ions through ion channels in or out of a cell, depending on the permeability of the membrane, forces of ... • 4. The Problem Of Community College Students I, like many new LaGuardia students, would walk around campus with my head down in disappointment with myself. Every time somebody asked where I went to school I would cringe and respond softly LaGuardia Community College and would get a response like oh that s good as if to spare my feelings. Unfortunately, LaGuardia like many other community colleges nationwide have a negative connotation associated with them because they are the institutions that accept those students that did not make it to other private or public universities. Or those students that were hit the hardest with life. It would be wrong to not point out the socioeconomic disparity of those who attend schools like LaGuardia where 61.8% of students who live with their families have a family income of under $25,000 a year. I fall under this demographic and am also an underrepresented minority as a Latino of Colombian background. This is the story of how I let my curiosity lead me to success and how I let go of the misconception that community college students were unable to achieve. When I enrolled in LaGuardia I was 2 years removed from high school and had no clear academic direction. I signed up for one of the first semester cluster courses that were centered around a topic that I found genuinely interesting called Globalization: You and The World. That was my first great decision because I was met with an abundance of great professors and peers. The cluster course catalyzes peer to peer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Analysis Of Dances With Wolves The Easterners and Native Americans were thought to live vastly different lifestyles. Most Easterners were much like John Dunbar, a decorated American lieutenant. They had a desire to see the American frontier before it vanished from their steady expansion out West. However, Native Americans inhabited what many regarded as the American frontier, and they along with their tribe vowed to protect their land from the white men who would only continue to come and ravish the land. Native Americans are indigenous to the Americas and were not simply curious about expansion, but rather adamant about protecting the land that had been theirs for years before the white men came about (Treuer 18). After his display of bravery in war, Lieutenant John J. Dunbar, regarded as a decorated American hero by his fellow soldiers, set out for the American frontier, later settling into an abandoned post near an Indian reservation with the help of Timmons, who spewed his thoughts of the Native Americans to his passenger. Timmons argued the Native Americans were nothing more than savage thieves and beggars. In Kevin Costner s film, Dances with Wolves, we see the representation of Native Americans through the use various framing of scenes and costuming as well as the producer s thoughts on the treatment and representation of Indians. Costner uses Lieutenant John Dunbar to display the representation of Native Americans in the American culture seen primarily through the frames that also depict the ... • 7. Causes Of Drug Legalization In the United States, we have many conflicts such as discrimination, war between other counties, and most importantly the debate of drug legalization. The reason for the debate/conflict on drug legalization is because of timely matter. For an example, Colorado and Washington have passed laws for the legalizing the recreational use of marijuana (Rosenkraz, 2016). The United Stateshas been fighting a war with drugfor 41 years. The estimated costs so far is about 2.5 trillion dollars (Dovan, 2016). Therefore, that information shows why Americans are debating about the legalization of drugs. Many Americans do not favor the cause of drug legalization, but there are minority who disagree. I am one of the minority whom does favor the cause of drug legalization. My goal in this paper is to give my opinion and information to show why I do favor the legalization of drugs. In the article, 14 Years After Decriminalizing All Drugs, Here s What Portugal Looks Like, it discussed how Portuguese government decriminalized all drugs. The country of Portugal has been under the decriminalization for fourteen years now and stated that they have been doing better than ever before (Zeeshanaleem, 2016). For example, there is no intense increase in crime for drug use. The number of people arrested and sent to criminal courts for drug offenses declined by more than 60 percent since decriminalization. (Drug Policy Alliance, 2015). The number of criminal court cases have decreased because the use ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Structural Funcionalism, Conflict Theory, and Symbolic... In this paper, I will discuss three different schools of thought that, while they may seem to explain the inner workings of society, by themselves they fail to satisfy completely. For each theory, I will discuss the basics and cover the main tenants of each. Then, I will discuss the ambiguities, inadequacies and irrelevance to reality based on our current understanding of modern society. Structural Functionalism In the Functionalist School of Thought, society is viewed as being a complex structure of inter related parts, analogous to a living being, with many different organs contributing to the daily functioning and health of the entire organism. If we are to look at society as a super organism, then we have to accept that conflict is a vital part of any organisms future development and evolution. Humans weren t put on this earth perfected; through biological conflict with the environment and disease, we have evolved into what we are now. While still not perfect, evolution is still taking place. The same is true for societies. No one society was born perfect. Society has evolved from the same analogous process of trial and error, success and failure. While not all conflict is productive, it is necessary to the evolution of society. Functionalism all but ignores this aspect. Conflict Theory Where the positivist theory of Structural Functionalism focuses on the rigidity and stability of society, conflict theories focus on the chaotic, negative and unequal aspects. This perspective is constructed from the numerous hypotheses of Karl Marx, who saw society as intrinsically broken, and constantly in a state of disarray with social groups competing for a limited amount of social capitol and economic resources. According to Marx, society is constructed around two classes of people: the ruling class and the subject class. Those in the ruling class have a disproportionately large control over all resources, and use this power to subjugate the lower classes. This ensures that the ruling class never gives up power, due to the fact that the lower classes have to struggle to obtain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Organelles In Animal Cells Essay Organelles are the internal structures of the cell that are important for the cell to survive. Each organelle has a specific function for the cell. The types of organelles in the cell can be different from each other depending on the type of cell. Plant cells and animal cells both have a cytoskeleton, endoplasmic reticulum(smooth and rough), golgi apparatus, mitochondrion, nucleus, plasma membrane, and ribosomes. Animal and plant cells also have vacuoles, but they are rarely found in animal cells. Vacuoles in animal cells are very small compared to the vacuoles in plant cells. Lysosomes are also rarely found in plant cells but mostly found in animal cells. The cytoplasm is a semifluid in the plasma membrane. It is in all eukaryotic cells. In prokaryotes, this is where the chemical processes of the celltake place. In eukaryotic cells, this is where organelles perform their functions. Cellular respiration also takes place here. One of stages of cellular respiration is glycolysis. Glycolysis is when glucose breaks down to form two pyruvates and 4 ATP. Its net result of 2 ATP is important for another process called the Krebs Cycle. This process is important because it begins cellular respiration. The cytoplasm also gives the cell its shape; without it, the cell would be deflated and substances would not be able to move throughout the cell. Organelles would have difficulty functioning too. It has been misunderstood that organelles float freely in the cytoplasm even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Apple Vs. Samsung Galaxy Essay Of all of the possible answers to the question of why Apple fans are willing to pay so much, the most intuitive one would be to say that Apple products are simply better than the rest. This may have indeed been the case for many of Apple s older products. The iPhone, as many remember, was revolutionary at the time, owning around 30% of the US market share a little over a year after its release (Elmer Dewitt 2008). Similarly, the iPad was far bigger than any of its rival tablets for years. This, however, may not be the case anymore. As more and more products like the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Microsoft Surface have come to compete with Apple s famous products, it becomes increasingly unclear which products are better. Yet still, apple maintains its dedicated fans. Here the hardware capabilities of Apple s computers, phones, and tablets will be compared to that of their competition, and the software that drives this technology will be analyzed in order to show what factor it might play in the popularity of Apple products. Apple s oldest products are of course Mac computers. Although we see and hear about Mac computers everywhere, from movies to commercials, the mac computer still holds a somewhat small portion of the global PC market share. Mac computers held only 7.4% of the PC market share in the 3rd Quarter of 2016, while other companies like Lenovo and HP each owned a little over 20% of the market share over the same quarter (Campbell 2016). Commercial fishing is the catching of fish for profit and, as with other profit making activities, there are trade offs between a pure capitalistic market and the damage it does to resources. For commercial fishing, this trade off is that the more fishthe fishermen catch, the more damage it does to the fish population. To make commercial fishing sustainable, large regulations need to be in place, as Jack said. However, large regulations of a free market are usually not accepted in America and would not be put in place in time to save the fish and sustain commercial fishing. The population of many fish species have decreased drastically through the years and, even with current regulations, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The definition of Capitalism according to Merriam Webster is an economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a Free Market. This means that the free market, or in this case commercial fishing, is not controlled by the government because that is the definition of capitalism. Having big restrictions on fishing would be seen as a restriction of the free market. Although regulations are put on the free market, the size of regulations needed to sustain fish population and save commercial fishing would not be tolerated by many political parties. The regulations would never be put in place. Unless America changes its capitalist view, the large regulations needed to sustain commercial fishing will not happen. The changes needed for sustainable fishing are too big and do not fit with America s view of the economic system. Unfortunately, without these changes, the fish population will continue to decline. Video games seem to satisfy children s natural need to interact socially, however more often than not, they lead to social isolation. Overexposure to digital media, such as video games is detrimental to the health and function of a child s brain in the areas of empathy, impulse control, and social interaction. Video games began their ascent to the top of our children s priority list for in the early 1990s, and there does not appear to be a peak of popularity any time soon. Digital media and video games used to be a reward for a child that has attained a goal; now video games tend to be the immediate go to solution for a child s boredom. The distribution of film has changed phenomenally during the last 10 years. Independent film is an area of production where filmmakers produce their films independently, outside of the studio system. Many argue that cultural value is taken from independent films whereas commercial releases follow the same narrative structure. Often, mainstream cinema will follow a common narrative arc which fits into the equilibrium theory e.g. Protagonist is faced with a challenge, a stage of disequilibrium occurs, equilibrium is restored and the film has a traditional happy ending. Independent film s niche audiences enjoy the creative freedom that comes with genre. This freedom has been extended by new technology, giving filmmakers the ability to fulfil their artistic vision. However, these theories only apply to assets with infinite lives (land and shares), as investors know that assets with finite terms will be redeemed for a specified value at maturity and this limits their secondary market price. According to Froot and Obstfeld, bubbles result from investors incorrectly estimating fundamentals. For example, shareholders may be unable to forecast industry changes that affect future profitability and are forced to condition expectations of future cash flows on current payments. This intrinsic rational bubble theory explains several empirical observations, including why share prices over react to dividend changes. New Rational Models and Misaligned Incentives These models emphasise the role of incentives in promoting bubbles. Key insights from these studies are that bubbles may be propagated by herding behaviour among financial intermediaries, distortions in the data distributed by information agencies and limited liability. According to Lamont and Frazzoni, investors tend to allocate funds towards intermediaries investing in high sentiment markets, thereby forcing managers to perpetuate bubbles. Through the years many codes have been imposed to fix problems have occurred in the construction of the building or after it been constructed. This is due to local officials of the area who have the power to change codes or arrange than to meet the requirement for the area. Andragogy focuses on special needs od adults learners, he classifies these need into six different categories: (1) need to know, (2) self concept, (3) prior experience, (4) readiness to learn, (5) learning orientation, and (6) motivation to learn. Adults have special needs as learners and these needs should be taken into consideration when planning training for adults. When adults participate in a positive learning experience that follows the six assumptions of andragogy presented in this paper, they are more likely to retain what they have learned and apply it in their work environment. Qantas Introduction: As a HR graduate, through research and examination it was found that Knowles Andragogy is the best way for adults to learn. Every group contains a configuration of idiosyncratic personalities, differing past experiences, current orientations, levels of readiness for learning, and individual learning styles. Thus trainers should be wary of prescribing any standardized approach to facilitating learning (Brookfield 1986). In George Orwell s Essay Such, Such Were The Joys Throughout George Orwell s essay, Such, Such were the Joys, the poor class in society is represented as incompetent and undeserving of joy and success. Instead they earn and deserve beatings physically and mentally. The poor class is represented this way to show how money appears to buy success and happiness through Orwell s implying the Joys and privileges that the eliteclass have. The essay begins discussing Orwell as a young boyarriving at a school by the name of St. Cyprian s. Right at the beginning of this essay and Orwell s school experience, he wets the bed making a small mistake that likely all children have made before. The headmaster doesn t just swiftly forget about it, instead he harshly presages young Orwell of the beating... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The underlying cause of this treatment is essentially because money pays for life s comforts. Above all the poor class shouldn t have to be beaten or looked down upon even if they don t have the money to pay for life necessities, like an education specifically in Orwell s case. Even though money and the lack of it were the main themes in Orwell s essay joy is something else that is important to consider especially because that s what Orwell called this essay. Orwell explained how everything was working against him because he had no wealth. He never mentioned the greater joy that the elite class had and he kept it surreptitious. This is because joy can reside among any social class. Orwell called this essay, Such, Such Were the Joy s because... (FIX THIS!!!) Since the beginning of time the poorer class has been represented and treated a certain way because of the belief of the importance of money. This is due to the permanent belief that they haven t done anything for society so society does not need to do anything for them except of course make their life miserable. Even though Orwell represented the poor as undeserving of anything with no abilities to accomplish anything he wrote this essay to show that with lots of hard work it can be possible and he wanted to show the breaking of these barriers throughout his ... Different bodies and senses reveal different aspects of the world, or create for the person a very different world than that experienced by someone with other capabilities, but that difference does not devalue the experience (Harmon 494). It is vital to recognize cultural context of the way that disabled people experience social society before delving deeper into the subcategory of that culture that is dance. The two acts before the CAA did not really do much except jump starting research and throwing plenty of money at the research. When the research was released to Congress from the Motor Vehicle Act, Congress found out that approximately 60% of pollution was coming from vehicles; of the pollutants that were being emitted from vehicles, the most prominent that were found were Carbon Monoxide (CO), Nitrogen Oxide (NOx), and Hydrocarbons. These findings pushed Congress to pass another bill that would help to slow down pollution, especially from vehicles. However, when the CAA was passed, it did not mandate any reductions ... Stunned by his observations and his memory of my dresses, it takes me a moment to reply. Yes, it is. I flatten out the wrinkles in my dress from the taxi ride over. It s a lot like the one you wore for your audition, isn t it? It s very similar. I suppose I should come clean, that first dress belonged to Alice, but now I have my own. Blue suits you, it matches your eyes. He reaches out to glide his fingertips along the side of my face. It matches your tie. Though it sits perfectly on his shirt, I adjust the knot of his tie nonetheless. Once I realise our inappropriate behaviour, I retract my hand, cupping it to my chest with it s behaving twin. I promised myself the whole ride over I would not allow him to flirt with me, yet here I am, flirting right back! I avert my gaze, staring down at my hands, and reprimand myself for our interaction. Wait one second, I gaze back up at him, you called me Angel, again. Why? Why not? I mean, why Angel? He leans in close enough for his fragrance to imbue my nostrils, leaving me light headed. His lips caress my ear as he whispers, Your perfume. Though I heard what he said, I can t bring forth the words to respond. Instead, I turn my face just a little towards his, my lips only an inch away. The mischievous grin appears as he retracts, our gazes lock, and he pauses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The tribe has suffered great atrocities at the hands of western culture. The Yurok went from being a thriving people, to being assimilated, almost to the point of ethnocide, (Kottak) and finally forced to live in a small area that was once a part of their vast ancestral land. The Yurok people have strived up until the present to keep their culturealive. In this essay I will be discussing what the Yurok tribe is like today, what problems they face politically and socially, and what the tribe is doing to combat these issues. In the past, the Yurok did not have an active political system or form of social control. (Kottak) There was no one man to lead the tribe; they did not practice chiefdom. Nevertheless, the Yurok simply had a set of principles to which the tribe would adhere to. An example of one of these principle is, if a tribal member were to commit an act of violence toward another member of the tribe, the person who committed the act would have to pay full compensation, depending on the severity of the act. Today the Yurok are governed by a tribal council. The tribal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Poverty is currently one of the biggest concerns for the Yurok tribe. Reproduction technologies had an impact on the evolution of electro acoustic equipment. Schaeffer s piece Etude aux Chemins (1948) was one of the first electronic compositions of the 20th century, which became very influential to modern day sampling. Corporations responsible for the creation of musical instruments in early 20th century had no vocation for economic suicide (p.7 Simon Emmerson, 1986), this led to them only adjusting existing instruments, therefore it was not viable for the creation of new inventions; it was not in their best interests. Our civilization sees itself too smugly in the mirror of history; it is no longer creating the needs which would make renewal an economic necessity (P.7 Simon Emmerson, 1986). th The first half of the 20 century saw considerable progression within the domains of sound reproduction tools and the sizeable escalation of the recording industries; this developed electronic technology and in turn, developed new styles of vernacular music. This technological innovation laid the foundations for new vernacular music such genres as rock, hip hop, etc. Due to this development, where the existence relied on electronics to produce the sound, musicians started to embrace technology. This combination of science and music started to form a complex connection. Like in combat when there is a code Red the soldier knows that at a given and safe(safe as possible at least) time he or she should get to the rally point predetermined by his or her chain of command, that way he or she and his or her equipment can be accounted for.
