Egyptian Pyramid Construction
Thousands of years ago, the ancient Egyptians used different type of stone materials to build the Great
Pyramids as it is known, Egypt is a very rich country with stones that it was referred to as the state of
stone . It has a great amount of various limestone formation which the Egyptians used to call the white
stone . Egypt is also rich with sandstone, but it was not really used that often during that era.
Most of these materials were not that rough. They used low grade limestone to build the pyramid core,
and fine white limestone to employ for the outer casing as well as to cover interior walls, also pink
granite was more often used on inner walls. Basalt was one of the most common material used for
flooring, it is a volcanic stone formed because of a quick cooling of basaltic lava. ... Show more

The stone was a poor quality material, it was layered in regular, strong formations with half a meter
thickness. It was grained with yellow to greenish gray shading. The Egyptians used a thin layer of clay
to separate the limestone layers from each other.
According to the history, most temples of Egypt, especially in the north area, incorporated a mound of
earth to represent a symbol of the original site of all life. The Egyptians started shaping such mounds
as a small hill of earth or sand, but then these mounds eventually took the form of a small pyramid
carved from a single block of stone.
Therefore, it looks like the pyramid shape represented the idea of their belief that a new life, emerging
from a mound of earth to be bathed in the light and warmth of the

Evolution Of Flight Research Paper
Flight is a very complex function, and in order to develop into what we know now as birds, there are
several major evolutionary changes that needed to develop to maturity. In order for fly, the skeletal
structure, musculature, respiratory system, circulatory systems, and feathers must all be adapted to
allow for an organism to take flight. Many scientists have proposed theories about the origin of flight,
but the Arboreal and Cursorial theories have emerged as the strongest cases. Arboreal theories are
based around the idea that the organisms climbing into trees jump out of those trees and glide down,
eventually adapted to flap to increase drag. This theory is based in the skeletal similarities of gliding
animals to those of birds.1 This tree hopping evolution hypothesis is supported by Archaeopteryx, one
of the prime examples of a transitional animal for flight. Archaeopteryx presents with long unfused
claws that are adaptations for climbing and grasping.3 In addition, there are also presence of a furcula,

Any lift that would come out of the winged features would generate drag causing a loss in
acceleration. 1 However, just as the Arobreal theory was supported by Archaeopteryx, the Cursorial
theory is also strongly supported by this specimen. Archaeopteryx demonstrates a complete set of
conical teeth and claws that were sharp and resembling the specimens relative Ornitholestes, a known
predaceous animal.3 The Archaeopteryx also resembles therapods with a reversed hallux, hindlimb,
and pelvis.3 Even though this theory is supported using fossil evidence, it does have some problems
which have lead to the development of theories such as the WAIR

Positive Airway Pressure Essay
Introduction
Positive airway pressure (PAP) is the standard treatment for patients with moderate to severe
obstructive sleep apnea (OSA); a sleep related breathing disorder (SRBD) characterized by episodic
complete or partial upper airway occlusion during sleep.1 Over the past years, the relationship
between SRBD and cardiac arrhythmias have been thoroughly investigated.2 7 Previous studies have
shown that obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) predisposes to clinically significant nocturnal
impairment of the cardiac autonomic function and such impairment correlated with the severity of
OSAS.8 11 The respiratory event related cyclic hypoxemia and arousal characteristic of OSA causes
dysregulation in the autonomic nervous system (ANS) in the form of enhanced sympathetic activity,

How To File A Small Claim Courts
In order to file a small claims lawsuit, you must first understand a few things about small claim courts.
We are going to be using the San Mateo County small claims court for the entire essay. First of all, for
San Mateo County small claims, you may not sue for over ten thousand dollars if you are a natural
person, or five thousand dollars if you are a business entity. You could sue in the civil division of the
superior court if you would like to sue for more money than ten thousand dollars. If you have a claim
over ten thousand dollars, you may still sue in a small claims court, but would lose any value above
your specific limit. Specifically, with the San Mateo Small Claims Court, you may not file 3 or more
cases in small claims ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You must be at least 18 in order to file a small claims lawsuit, but an adult or legal guardian may file a
small claim on their behalf.
In order to file a small claims lawsuit, you must do a variety of other requirements prior to filing the
claim. Before even going through the process of filing a small court claim, you must notify the
defendant clearly stating why you think they owe you money, and how much money they actually owe
you. This is to show you at least put an effort out to resolve the issue instead of going straight to the
small claims court. It should include a summary of the situation, a date for them to respond by, proof
of what they did wrong, and to warn them that you will take legal action if the matter is not solved.
You may do this verbally, or you may write a letter to the defendant. If you chose to write a letter, you
must make sure you keep record of the letter, and also print an extra copy for the court. If they do not
pay back the money they owe to you or find a solution, then you should proceed with taking legal
action.
Although it may sound extremely simple, it is very important that you receive the name, address, and
phone number of the person or business you are suing so you can correctly add them into the claim. If
you have trouble finding more details on the defendant, than you can use a California Secretary of
State website to access the information if you are searching for a corporation,

Differences Between The Faulin s Tale And The Canterbury...
If you and 29 of your friends went on a trip and all told stories, whose story would win? In the case of
The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer, this was the question at hand. The Canterbury Tales
explains the religious pilgrimage of many individuals to Canterbury, and the stories they told along the
way. With them traveled a Host, who served as the judge of the contest. He determined who the
winner would be based off of how clean the story was and if the story was morally sound or not. The
prize for winning the storytelling contest was a free dinner. Based on the rules set by the Host, The
Franklin would have won the contest. The first criteria that each story must meet, is that it must be
clean. Both of these tales reflect on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even when Arveragus has to be away from Dorigen, their love survives as well as their faithfulness.
The Merchant s Tale on the the other hand is not so clean. This story depicts the marriage of an old
knight named January, and his young and beautiful wife, May. Throughout the entirety of the story
many aspects are not clean. The first example of this is shown the night of the wedding. We are in
holy wedlock, and we may. And blessed be the yoke that we are in For nothing we can do will count

adamant about his final wedding guests leaving so that he can be alone with May. In the time after
they left, they took part in actions deemed not clean. As time went on in the story, May started to have
very strong feelings for an attendant in the house named Damian. Their love was a secret from
January, and only expressed within letters to one another. Until one day it was expressed in a much
more extreme way. Catching a branch, and with a spring she thence Ladies, I beg you not to take

The Microsociology Of Violence By Randall Collins
The microsociology of violence is an attempt by Randall Collins to create an overall theory of
violence. He does by focusing on the situational context of the violent interactions, and how emotions
work to inhibit or support violence. As a theory, it has emerged from the field of microsociology, an
approach which seeks to explore human interactions on a face to face level. Collins own approach
combines Émile Durkheim s theory of ritual and group level interaction with the dramaturgical and
context relevant conception of human interaction advanced by Erving Goffman. Collins argues that all
human interaction on the face to face level is a ritual. It is the situational dynamics of this ritual where
he places his attention. He argues that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Importantly, they argue that the sometimes vague and overly metaphorical notions found in Randall
Collins theory of microsociology are bolstered by the integration of polyvagal theory. Similarly,
Mazur incorporates biosocial, hormone based mechanisms into microsociology of violence theory,
both validating and reinforcing the Collins findings. The tendency for bodies to produce a micro
alignment also means that individuals feel tension when they are at a cross purpose in an interaction.
This tension places a significant emotional burden on an individual and can diminish their physical
ability harm another. Collins calls this confrontational tension/fear (ct/f). By default, ct/f inhibits
violence. In arguing this, Collins draws upon a variety of phenomenological and observation accounts
of violence. These include Katz research into experiences of crime, Grossman s description of combat
stresses and the emotional difficulty of killing another in the context of military combat, Klinger s
work with police who have used lethal force, S.L.A. Marshall s controversial and contested survey of
American soldiers in the Pacific Theatre of World War 2, and Collins own observations of a wide
variety of violent encounters. Individuals involved in violent situations may experience a range of
symptoms which Collins argues are the

The Crash Of The Plane Crash
Day 1: I awoke covered in sand with the sun beating down on my face. Looking into the vast ocean
upon me I knew I had survived the plane crash, but how could I have ended up on this mysterious
island? I sat there for a moment trying to piece together what had occurred. It was June 17, 1979 and I
was on a plane heading to Bosnia for a mission trip when the plane encountered engine problems.
There were several loud booms coming from the cockpit when suddenly a huge explosion rips through
the fuselage tearing the aircraft into several pieces. At this point I was sure death was upon me.
Somehow, I managed to survive the plummet into the ocean and swim to a piece of debris floating in
the water. This was the last thing I remember until waking up on the shore. God sure must have been
looking out for me to have survived that crash!
After the shock had set in that I was still alive, it was time to decide what to do to survive on this
island. Not knowing how long I will be here, there are three very important things to locate: food,
water, and shelter. I walked along the shore looking for anything to wash up from the crash. I
stumbled upon a few suitcases filled with clothes and several other items I could use to my disposal.
While searching the shore I found absolutely no sign of life and realized that I was the only survivor
that had made it to land. I then began walking inland to find water and a place to rest for the night. I
could hear the sound of water flowing in the

Boundaries In Beowulf
Humans Create Their Place in the World Through analyzing Beowulf, there is a common theme
throughout the book of proximity and transgression of boundaries. The author creates the proximity of
boundaries by having the Hall, (good), within walking distance of the forest, (bad), and the
transgression of boundaries by having Beowulf enter the mere. These examples within the text
correlate to boundaries that are seen within our modern world. Proximity of boundaries can be viewed
by the closeness of industry and community, and the transgressions can be seen with foreign
interference. These transgressions and proximities of boundaries illustrate how humans create and
protect their own place in the world by controlling proximity and transgressing boundaries when
necessary. In Beowulf, there are several boundaries that have an extremely near proximity to one
another. The most evident example of the proximity of boundaries is the forest and Hrothgar s Hall.
The forest was seen as a, dark, and mysterious place that was associated with the evil creatures in the
book, whereas the Hall was associated with celebration and a sense of safety for the people. The
Danes built Hrothgar s hall with the realization that the forest was in close proximity to their place of
safety. This example illustrates that the Danes created their place within their environment. Although
there are some set boundaries that humans have no control over, such as night and day, there is a large
impact on how humanity creates boundaries and their place in the world. In our modern day world,
there are numerous examples of how humans have pushed the limits of creating boundaries within
close proximity of one another. In Andrew Blackwell s novel, Visit Sunny Chernobyl, he explores a
refinery town within Texas called Port Arthur. Blackwell explains the overwhelming proximity of the
refineries to the city of Port Arthur, and even gives an example of a child s playground and the
immediacy of the refineries. He states, Several hundred yards beyond the playground were the storage
tanks of the Motiva refinery, and beyond them the refinery itself, illustrating that humans created a
refinery, associated with pollutants and darkness in our society, within

INITIAL THOUGHTS:
There s a thin line between entertaining your audience with a gambling demo, and boring them into
abysmal submission. Personally, I ve always found that when the magician continually wins, the
audience gets tired quickly. Let s face it; no one likes losing! It s human nature.
Therefore, this routine is designed to make your audience believe like they can win every time, no
matter which game you play. Furthermore, the power of this routine is not about the astronomical odds
of receiving a winning hand in a called upon position like so many gambling demos. More important,
it s about empowering someone in your audience with the genuine feeling of having a Midas like

Simply start overhand shuffling the pack, bringing the Royal Flush stack of cards from the bottom up

Deal out two hands of five cards, each. Quickly turn over your Poker hand displaying that you have no

proudly shows that they have received a royal flush.
While looking into the audience member s eyes, calmly extend your hand to shake their hand in a

Wipro, the third largest player in the Indian Information Technology (IT) industry, had traditionally
focused on investment banking in the Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) vertical, and
on the telecom sector. Both these segments had reportedly taken a beating in recent years.
While the investment banking segment had reported muted growth, the fact that clients in the
telecommunications sector, especially in Europe, were reducing their technology spend had also
negatively impacted Wipro s performance. In addition to this, the company s dual CEO structure
adopted in April 2008 did not yield the expected results. This, according to analysts, was because the
two CEOs Girish Paranjpe (Paranjpe) and Suresh Vaswani (Vaswani) did not focus on key segments
that helped Indian IT companies recover growth post the global financial crisis 10.
Thus, Wipro lagged behind its peers such as TCS and Infosys.
To arrest the decline in sales and profitability, Wipro s founder and executive chairman, Azim
Hasham Premji (Premji), scrapped the dual CEO structure in January 2011, to make way for company
veteran and head of the Eco Energy Business, TK Kurien (Kurien), to take over. In a bid to turn
around the company, Kurien restructured the organization to make it nimbler and focused on key
segments such as the BFSI and consulting to chase growth. Moreover, the single CEO model was also

Similarities Between a Global Leader and an Effective...
A global leader has a lot of things in common with an effective innovator and one of the principal
similarities between the two involves their ability to coordinate teams with the purpose of achieving
goals in a limited amount of time and with as little impediments as possible. It is only safe to say that
innovation is a team sport and that a global leader thus needs to focus on this concept in order to be
able to assist his subordinates in meeting deadlines.
In most cases global leaders feel that it is not up to them to come up with innovative solutions. Rather,
they feel responsible for facilitating the innovation process. (Dyer, Gregersen, Christensen) Even with
the fact that being an entrepreneur in many cases means having to criticize creative individuals for
failing to play an active part in the actual production process, there is much more to being a global
leader. Such a person basically needs to employ complex attitudes in order for him or her to be able to
cooperate effectively with all of his or her subordinates.
Effective innovators are in some situations less concerned about matters like discipline or
accountability. This is why it is difficult for many global leaders to be able to adopt attitudes that
would involve innovation, as they are unwilling to take risks and thus believe that they should solely
concentrate on increasing profits through employing rational actions. Similar to how global leaders are
reluctant to consider innovation as a strategy

A Rose For A Slave Girl By Harriet Jacobs
The book Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, tells the story of a slave girl named Linda Brent who
fought many mental and physical battles throughout her life in order to oppose the system of slavery.
This autobiography was written by Harriet Jacobs, known in the book as Linda Brent, and uses a
multitude of psuedonyms in order to conceal the identity of those within the book. Harriet Jacobs had
succeeded in putting forth a new, unconventional slave narrative that depicted the emotional and
mental anguish slave women were subjected to on a daily basis. Through sexual victimization by their
masters and the ever present maternal fear of losing their children to the slave trade, slavery was a far
more terrible fate for women than for men. Throughout her twenty seven year life of being a slave,
Harriet Jacobs attempted to defy the idea and social structure of slavery at every turn. Harriet Jacobs s
early life was spent with her mother and father, both prosperous slaves. Jacobs states that she was
shielded and never dreamed I was a piece of merchandise (29). When Jacobs s mother died she was
sent to her mother s mistress. This mistress turned out to be quite kind and Jacobs was always glad to
do her bidding, and proud to labor for her as much as my young years would permit (32). Jacobs s
childhood was an important part of her growth, as she found her self worth and confidence; a luxury
most slaves did not have. This concept of self worth will be key in the struggle

This trend can be traced all the way back to Miyazaki s first feature length animated film titled

films centered around a female lead. San is best described as an independent, ferocious, wild, but also
virtuous individual. The prince and princess characters never enter into the realm of romance either in
Mononoke, an occurrence very much contrary to the typical love story arc that drives numerous other
animated movies (Aladdin, Snow White, The Little Mermaid, etc). In fact when San first meets
Ashitaka, the prince from a human village, she is sucking poison from the gunshot wound of a giant
wolf and spitting blood into a river. She never swoons nor falters, but stares covered in blood and tells
him to go away. Even later in the story when Ashitaka calls her beautiful, she recoils. What is it, San?
asks one of the wolf gods. Want me to crunch his face off? In her interactions with Ashitaka, San is
indeed obstinate but later is forced to confront her human identity. This never comes across as him
taming her however, but is a relationship of shared respect. This is seen in the conclusion of the film
when after the two characters have formed a strong friendship and have worked together

Near Death Experience
Death takes us all at some point but there are those that come close to the brink and return, this
phenomenon is called a Near Death Experience. These moments or, Near Death Experiences, leave
people with something hard to find, it leaves them with a change of heart. Near Death Experiences
tend to include a rush of adrenaline, time slowing down, and a change of priorities, these are the
effects of a near death experience but do they occur throughout most?
Time slowing down is an impossible phenomenon. In truth it is the brain working at a hyperactive
state putting the perspective into an rapid focus making time itself seem to be slowing down when
actually it is just the brain speeding up. Again everything slows down were the words he used ... Show

The Theory Of The Political Economy
The theory of the political economy in the context on media studies, is that behind every media
product, has a commercial and economic imperative and as such, has particular impacts on the media
content that would not exist if such imperatives ceased to exist. It is these impacts that both limit
media products, and allow media products of a particular nature exist. A political economic approach
in the production of media is in contrary to the nature of media itself; accuracy, integrity and
authenticity are lost in favor to economic power.
A capitalist society is one that exists within an exploitative framework. Our society exists and
functions due to labor being exploited by those in a lower social class with the intention of economic
profit for those who exploit others. (Marx and Moore, 2001) Ignoring the morality of this ideology, it
enables a functioning society to a particular degree. When this theory is applied within the context of a
political economy of media production, we can begin to understand its value. The nature of a capitalist
society means that human labor worth a monetary value and that is exchanged between the exploiter
and the exploited. As such, without a political economic influence, media products would cease to
exist. Funding facilitates the production of media labor is required to create, produce, distribute and
consume media.
All media is influenced by the political economic circumstances, however, the extent in which this
model impacts the

Subject: Auditing, share based payment and SPE reporting
A publically traded company offers challenges to auditing when it comes to shared based payment
reporting and special purpose entities (SPE) reporting individually. The most basic principle of GAAP
at risk is the qualitative characteristic of reliability. Shared based payment and SPE reporting
individually has been broken down to better equip the audit for our client.
It is important to notice that Special Purpose Entities should be carefully reviewed by each member of
the auditing team. Even more after it was proven that most of Enron s fraudulent accounting practices
involved SPE. SPE allows companies to reduce their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
SPE Reporting Individually
A special purpose entity (SPE) is a business interest formed in order to perform a specific task or
tasks. SPE s are also referred to as off balance sheet arrangements. SPE s are formed to 1). Finance
certain assets or services and keeping the associated debt off the balance sheet of the sponsors,
2).Transform certain financial assets, such as trade receivables, loans, or mortgages, into liquid
securities, and 3). Engage in tax free exchanges (Saroosh, 2004). Most of the SPE s in the U.S. have
been organized as limited liability corporations (LLC). A trust is also a common SPE in the U.S.
US GAAP has two models for off balance sheet treatment of SPEs one addressing de recognition of
assets and the second dealing with consolidation of variable interest entities. Initially accounting
treatment for SPE s was established by FAS 140. Until 2010, de recognition of assets were governed
by FAS 140, according to Basel Committee (2009). In order to be de recognized, assets must be
isolated from the transferor and put beyond the reach of creditors and receivers. This standard is
commonly referred to as meeting true sale criteria. To qualify as a true sale; the transferor must
surrender effective control over the

Questions On Reading And Speaking Skills
1.3. Language aims
According to Gattullo and Pallotti (2000, p. 52), when children finish primary school, they can:
1. read and understand a simple passage on everyday life;
2. engage in a simple conversations;
3. listen and understand simple messages.
In this useful investigation into language aims, Gattullo and Pallotti (2000) show that students will
have developed reading, listening and speaking skills for simple topics when they leave primary
school. These objectives seem to be reasonable and in line with the ability of six to ten year old pupils.
With regard to speaking skill, in ELLiE study, Italian pupils are expected to reach A1+ in CERF level
by 11 years old at which they are able to exchange personal information about familiar ... Show more

The above author found that four skills of a foreign language are assessed, which also reveals the
ability to use lexical items, grammar and pronunciation of a user. However, one of the limitations with
this evaluation is that it does not explain how language competences are assessed. There is no answer
whether students will take a pencil and paper test or other forms of assessment.
The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) developed by the European Council of
Europe (2001) is used for assessment in Italy. Mitchell (2010) claims that the CEFR is employed to set
up level for school leavers: primary students achieving level A1, lower secondary school pupils
achieve A2 and high school leavers achieving level B1 (in vocational institutes) or B2 (in academic
institutes). The CEFR is an outstanding framework for language teaching and assessment because
learning outcomes statements (known as can do statements) are indicated clearly and fully for all
skills: it describes in a comprehensive way what language learners have to learn to do in order to use a
language for communication and what knowledge and skills they have to develop so as to be able to
act effectively (Council of Europe, 2001, cited in Richards Rodgers, 2014, p.165).

Middle Colonies
The middle colonies were founded by the Dutch New Amsterdam but led by Quakers and William
Penn. The middles colonies consisted of Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and Delaware. The two
largest cities in the middle colonies was Philadelphia and New York. The middle colonies prospered
from many farm goods. They prospered with farm good because of their climate. They had warmer
winters, warmer summers, very fertile mountain valleys and most of all they had longer growing
season than the New England colonies. The colonist in the middle colonies grew a lot of wheat, grains
and oats as well as other crops. They are known as the Bread Basket of the colonies because of its
amount of grains they produced. Producing all of those crops made them

Mpls Network Based Mpls Uses Label Switching And Reliable,...
If a business is looking for a way to have a system that is fast and reliable, as well as secure MPLS is
the best solution. MPLS helps with the transfer of data between different business locations and it has
the ability to scale for any size business so it makes it a very valuable investment. MPLS takes away
all constant routing lookups associated with regular IP routing and provides high quality performance
for company networks.
MPLS Description
Multi Protocol Label Switching(MPLS) is a technology that uses label switching to more data over a
network. MPLS is technology that businesses use to create their own private WAN (Wide Area
Network). MPLS is used to connect different LAN s (Local Area Network) together that exist in
different areas of the country. When first talking about MPLS one must understand that MLPS isn t a
service is more known as a technique. This means that it can be used for many different services that
may not be known as MPLS. MPLS seems to operate in the middle of the OSI model layers 2 and 3 so
it is somewhat of a layer 2.5 protocol. The reasoning being is that MPLS sits between those layers is
because it provides more features for data transportation on a network. One of the basic concepts
MPLS is packet labeling or label switching. In a regular Internet Protocol (IP) routing, every router
makes a IP lookup in order to determine the next router in the routing table. Which then forwards the
packet and this process continues for every router until

Delta Sigma Based Digital Signal Processing
The proposed research focuses on Delta Sigma based Digital Signal Processing (DSP) circuits on Very
Large Scale Integration (VLSI) systems for low power intelligent sensors in particular on building
systematic tools to study their design principles and fundamental performance limits of energy
efïŹcient low complexity architectures and on the analysis of their practical advantages and limits.
Integrated intelligent sensors has emerged in a wide range of applications including health care,
surveil lance, environment monitoring, smart buildings, and Internet of Things, etc, and has
significantly benefited society due to alleviating certain monitoring and processing tasks. However,
novel applications such as wearable biomedical devices require further miniaturization of existing
state of the art hardware while having more signal processing capability due to the need to perform
real time processing, i.e. not only monitoring but also detecting abnormal physiological signals and
providing help by calling a hospital or ambulance. One fundamental problem with these applications
is that the high performance signal processing circuit consumes too much power, which limits system
battery lifetime or processing capability. Thus, these applications require the design of low power
signal processing hardware, especially multiply and accumulate (MAC) circuits, which are widely
used in linear signal processing algorithms. Accordingly, the goal of the proposed research is to
address these

History of Music in Horror Films Essay
A history of the sound in horror films
Horror films are known for their ability to scare audiences, to get the audience s hearts racing, their
blood rushing. A good horror film will cause viewers to be on the edge of their seats and having their
perception of reality distorted as they attempt to understand the unraveling plot of the horror film. The
tone of the film aides in the amount of suspense that a horror film produces, since a much darker film
will create a more suspenseful atmosphere than one that is more focused on campy monster makeup.
But the tone of a film is determined by the sound of the film, or in other words, the score. Sound or
music in a horror film, or the lack thereof, make the intense scenes and without the addition ... Show

The tones and sounds created centered around a central melody that was known as the monster s
music . This consistent score motif was characterized by harmonic, loud, crashing cords that featured
minor seconds and more drawn out tones.
This theme of monster music and a large emphasis on the final battle between good and evil continued
throughout most film and saw a resurgence in the late 70s and early 80s with slasher films. Nightmare
on Elm Street was one of the first slasher films to have a distinct theme that played throughout the
movie whenever there was a conflict between the slasher, Freddy Krueger and the final girl. These
songs were also some of the first to mirror the action on screen and create a strong symbolic tie
between the direction given by the director and the composing of the music.
During the final confrontation, Nancy in A Nightmare on Elm Street descends into the basement and
to mimic Nancy s movement the composer, Charles Bernstein, by having descending notes that follow
Nancy s movement into where we are led to believe Freddy resides. Without this ominous feel, the
movie would lack most of its punch. This is a grand example of one lackluster, albeit classic, horror
film that is somewhat saved by a stupendous score. The famous stalking trope for horror

Touching Behaviour in Conversational Dyads
Running head: TOUCHING BEHAVIOUR CONVERSATION
Touching Behaviour in Conversational Dyads
Mark Odean Grant
University of the West Indies, Mona
December 8, 2006
Humans are social and diversely interactive beings. As a result, there is the frequent practice of
touching during conversation. This touching may be the conscious decision of individuals, as well as
simply a spontaneous form of expression or response. An operational definition of touching would
involve the initiation of physical contact between two individuals; for example, shaking hands (Fowler
and Fowler, 1969). A conversation involves communication between two individuals by word of
mouth (Fowler and Fowler, 1969). Touching as a complement of conversation is very common, but ...

Apparatus/Instruments A three section Record Sheet (see Appendix) was designed for the purpose of
the study. The sheet had spaces to record the number of hand and body touches of the three types of
dyads (F F, M M, and M F) as well as some demographics – the location, date and time the
observation was made. Also a timing device (e.g. watch or stopwatch) was used for the purpose of the
one minute period of observation. These devices however were selected based on what was available
to individual researcher.
Procedure
Each student of the PS 11A class was given a Record Sheet (see Appendix) for the purpose of
recording their observations. Using a haphazard sampling approach, the students unobtrusively
observed the three sets of dyads (F F, M M and M F) for one minute, while they were in conversation
on the university campus. The number of hands and body touches were recorded for each set of dyads
during the minute. Examples of hand touches include hand to hand, hand to face, hand to leg, hand to
shoulder. Examples of body touches include body to body, kissing and hugging.) For the purpose of
establishing inter rater reliability, only new touches that took place in the minute were recorded.
Accordingly, if the dyads were touching before the minute of observation started, this was not counted
or recorded. Also, students, during tutorial sessions were guided as to how to count record touches.
This was done through role play exercises where the students (observers)

The ancient cattle from Egypt did not have the usual hump. They had 2 different types of horns. Some
of them had huge horns that were spread wide apart. They would arch inward and then urn outward.
Some would have shorter horns and they would have the same shape.
Egyptian art shows these cattle as being black, brown, brown and white, white spotted, black and

It has a great amount of various limestone formation which the Egyptians used to call the white stone . Egypt is also rich with sandstone, but it was not really used that often during that era. Most of these materials were not that rough. The Egyptians started shaping such mounds as a small hill of earth or sand, but then these mounds eventually took the form of a small pyramid carved from a single block of stone. Evolution Of Flight Research Paper Flight is a very complex function, and in order to develop into what we know now as birds, there are several major evolutionary changes that needed to develop to maturity. In order for fly, the skeletal structure, musculature, respiratory system, circulatory systems, and feathers must all be adapted to allow for an organism to take flight. Many scientists have proposed theories about the origin of flight, but the Arboreal and Cursorial theories have emerged as the strongest cases. Arboreal theories are based around the idea that the organisms climbing into trees jump out of those trees and glide down, eventually adapted to flap to increase drag. This theory is based in the skeletal similarities of gliding animals to those of birds.1 This tree hopping evolution hypothesis is supported by Archaeopteryx, one of the prime examples of a transitional animal for flight. He does by focusing on the situational context of the violent interactions, and how emotions work to inhibit or support violence. As a theory, it has emerged from the field of microsociology, an approach which seeks to explore human interactions on a face to face level. Collins own approach combines Émile Durkheim s theory of ritual and group level interaction with the dramaturgical and context relevant conception of human interaction advanced by Erving Goffman. Collins argues that all human interaction on the face to face level is a ritual. It is the situational dynamics of this ritual where he places his attention. He argues that ... Importantly, they argue that the sometimes vague and overly metaphorical notions found in Randall Collins theory of microsociology are bolstered by the integration of polyvagal theory. The tendency for bodies to produce a micro alignment also means that individuals feel tension when they are at a cross purpose in an interaction. This tension places a significant emotional burden on an individual and can diminish their physical ability harm another. Collins calls this confrontational tension/fear (ct/f). By default, ct/f inhibits violence. In arguing this, Collins draws upon a variety of phenomenological and observation accounts of violence. Looking into the vast ocean upon me I knew I had survived the plane crash, but how could I have ended up on this mysterious island? There were several loud booms coming from the cockpit when suddenly a huge explosion rips through the fuselage tearing the aircraft into several pieces. At this point I was sure death was upon me. Not knowing how long I will be here, there are three very important things to locate: food, water, and shelter. I walked along the shore looking for anything to wash up from the crash. I stumbled upon a few suitcases filled with clothes and several other items I could use to my disposal. • 12. Boundaries In Beowulf Humans Create Their Place in the World Through analyzing Beowulf, there is a common theme throughout the book of proximity and transgression of boundaries. The author creates the proximity of boundaries by having the Hall, (good), within walking distance of the forest, (bad), and the transgression of boundaries by having Beowulf enter the mere. These examples within the text correlate to boundaries that are seen within our modern world. Proximity of boundaries can be viewed by the closeness of industry and community, and the transgressions can be seen with foreign interference. These transgressions and proximities of boundaries illustrate how humans create and protect their own place in the world by controlling proximity and transgressing boundaries when necessary. In Beowulf, there are several boundaries that have an extremely near proximity to one another. The most evident example of the proximity of boundaries is the forest and Hrothgar s Hall. The forest was seen as a, dark, and mysterious place that was associated with the evil creatures in the book, whereas the Hall was associated with celebration and a sense of safety for the people. The Danes built Hrothgar s hall with the realization that the forest was in close proximity to their place of safety. This example illustrates that the Danes created their place within their environment. Although there are some set boundaries that humans have no control over, such as night and day, there is a large impact on how humanity creates boundaries and their place in the world. In our modern day world, there are numerous examples of how humans have pushed the limits of creating boundaries within close proximity of one another. In Andrew Blackwell s novel, Visit Sunny Chernobyl, he explores a refinery town within Texas called Port Arthur. Blackwell explains the overwhelming proximity of the refineries to the city of Port Arthur, and even gives an example of a child s playground and the immediacy of the refineries. He states, Several hundred yards beyond the playground were the storage tanks of the Motiva refinery, and beyond them the refinery itself, illustrating that humans created a refinery, associated with pollutants and darkness in our society, within ... Wipro, the third largest player in the Indian Information Technology (IT) industry, had traditionally focused on investment banking in the Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) vertical, and on the telecom sector. Both these segments had reportedly taken a beating in recent years. While the investment banking segment had reported muted growth, the fact that clients in the telecommunications sector, especially in Europe, were reducing their technology spend had also negatively impacted Wipro s performance. In addition to this, the company s dual CEO structure adopted in April 2008 did not yield the expected results. This, according to analysts, was because the two CEOs Girish Paranjpe (Paranjpe) and Suresh Vaswani (Vaswani) did not focus on key segments that helped Indian IT companies recover growth post the global financial crisis 10. Thus, Wipro lagged behind its peers such as TCS and Infosys. A global leader has a lot of things in common with an effective innovator and one of the principal similarities between the two involves their ability to coordinate teams with the purpose of achieving goals in a limited amount of time and with as little impediments as possible. It is only safe to say that innovation is a team sport and that a global leader thus needs to focus on this concept in order to be able to assist his subordinates in meeting deadlines. In most cases global leaders feel that it is not up to them to come up with innovative solutions. Rather, they feel responsible for facilitating the innovation process. (Dyer, Gregersen, Christensen) Even with the fact that being an entrepreneur in many cases means having to criticize creative individuals for failing to play an active part in the actual production process, there is much more to being a global leader. Such a person basically needs to employ complex attitudes in order for him or her to be able to cooperate effectively with all of his or her subordinates. Effective innovators are in some situations less concerned about matters like discipline or accountability. This is why it is difficult for many global leaders to be able to adopt attitudes that would involve innovation, as they are unwilling to take risks and thus believe that they should solely concentrate on increasing profits through employing rational actions. • 27. The Theory Of The Political Economy The theory of the political economy in the context on media studies, is that behind every media product, has a commercial and economic imperative and as such, has particular impacts on the media content that would not exist if such imperatives ceased to exist. It is these impacts that both limit media products, and allow media products of a particular nature exist. A political economic approach in the production of media is in contrary to the nature of media itself; accuracy, integrity and authenticity are lost in favor to economic power. A capitalist society is one that exists within an exploitative framework. Our society exists and functions due to labor being exploited by those in a lower social class with the intention of economic profit for those who exploit others. (Marx and Moore, 2001) Ignoring the morality of this ideology, it enables a functioning society to a particular degree. When this theory is applied within the context of a political economy of media production, we can begin to understand its value. The nature of a capitalist society means that human labor worth a monetary value and that is exchanged between the exploiter and the exploited. As such, without a political economic influence, media products would cease to exist. Funding facilitates the production of media labor is required to create, produce, distribute and consume media. All media is influenced by the political economic circumstances, however, the extent in which this model impacts the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hrm 531 Week 2 Financial Statement Analysis Memo To: John Doe From: Team C Date: February 20, 2012 Subject: Auditing, share based payment and SPE reporting A publically traded company offers challenges to auditing when it comes to shared based payment reporting and special purpose entities (SPE) reporting individually. The most basic principle of GAAP at risk is the qualitative characteristic of reliability. Shared based payment and SPE reporting individually has been broken down to better equip the audit for our client. It is important to notice that Special Purpose Entities should be carefully reviewed by each member of the auditing team. Even more after it was proven that most of Enron s fraudulent accounting practices involved SPE. SPE allows companies to reduce their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... SPE Reporting Individually A special purpose entity (SPE) is a business interest formed in order to perform a specific task or tasks. SPE s are also referred to as off balance sheet arrangements. SPE s are formed to 1). Finance certain assets or services and keeping the associated debt off the balance sheet of the sponsors, 2).Transform certain financial assets, such as trade receivables, loans, or mortgages, into liquid securities, and 3). Engage in tax free exchanges (Saroosh, 2004). Most of the SPE s in the U.S. have been organized as limited liability corporations (LLC). A trust is also a common SPE in the U.S. US GAAP has two models for off balance sheet treatment of SPEs one addressing de recognition of assets and the second dealing with consolidation of variable interest entities. Initially accounting treatment for SPE s was established by FAS 140. Until 2010, de recognition of assets were governed by FAS 140, according to Basel Committee (2009). In order to be de recognized, assets must be isolated from the transferor and put beyond the reach of creditors and receivers. This standard is commonly referred to as meeting true sale criteria. To qualify as a true sale; the transferor must surrender effective control over the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Questions On Reading And Speaking Skills 1.3. Language aims According to Gattullo and Pallotti (2000, p. 52), when children finish primary school, they can: 1. read and understand a simple passage on everyday life; 2. engage in a simple conversations; 3. listen and understand simple messages. In this useful investigation into language aims, Gattullo and Pallotti (2000) show that students will have developed reading, listening and speaking skills for simple topics when they leave primary school. These objectives seem to be reasonable and in line with the ability of six to ten year old pupils. With regard to speaking skill, in ELLiE study, Italian pupils are expected to reach A1+ in CERF level by 11 years old at which they are able to exchange personal information about familiar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The above author found that four skills of a foreign language are assessed, which also reveals the ability to use lexical items, grammar and pronunciation of a user. However, one of the limitations with this evaluation is that it does not explain how language competences are assessed. There is no answer whether students will take a pencil and paper test or other forms of assessment. The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) developed by the European Council of Europe (2001) is used for assessment in Italy. Mitchell (2010) claims that the CEFR is employed to set up level for school leavers: primary students achieving level A1, lower secondary school pupils achieve A2 and high school leavers achieving level B1 (in vocational institutes) or B2 (in academic institutes). The CEFR is an outstanding framework for language teaching and assessment because learning outcomes statements (known as can do statements) are indicated clearly and fully for all skills: it describes in a comprehensive way what language learners have to learn to do in order to use a language for communication and what knowledge and skills they have to develop so as to be able to act effectively (Council of Europe, 2001, cited in Richards Rodgers, 2014, p.165). 1.5. The middles colonies consisted of Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and Delaware. The two largest cities in the middle colonies was Philadelphia and New York. The middle colonies prospered from many farm goods. They prospered with farm good because of their climate. They had warmer winters, warmer summers, very fertile mountain valleys and most of all they had longer growing season than the New England colonies. The colonist in the middle colonies grew a lot of wheat, grains and oats as well as other crops. They are known as the Bread Basket of the colonies because of its amount of grains they produced. • 31. Mpls Network Based Mpls Uses Label Switching And Reliable,... If a business is looking for a way to have a system that is fast and reliable, as well as secure MPLS is the best solution. MPLS helps with the transfer of data between different business locations and it has the ability to scale for any size business so it makes it a very valuable investment. MPLS takes away all constant routing lookups associated with regular IP routing and provides high quality performance for company networks. MPLS Description Multi Protocol Label Switching(MPLS) is a technology that uses label switching to more data over a network. MPLS is technology that businesses use to create their own private WAN (Wide Area Network). MPLS is used to connect different LAN s (Local Area Network) together that exist in different areas of the country. When first talking about MPLS one must understand that MLPS isn t a service is more known as a technique. This means that it can be used for many different services that may not be known as MPLS. MPLS seems to operate in the middle of the OSI model layers 2 and 3 so it is somewhat of a layer 2.5 protocol. The reasoning being is that MPLS sits between those layers is because it provides more features for data transportation on a network. One of the basic concepts MPLS is packet labeling or label switching. In a regular Internet Protocol (IP) routing, every router makes a IP lookup in order to determine the next router in the routing table. Which then forwards the packet and this process continues for every router until ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Delta Sigma Based Digital Signal Processing The proposed research focuses on Delta Sigma based Digital Signal Processing (DSP) circuits on Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) systems for low power intelligent sensors in particular on building systematic tools to study their design principles and fundamental performance limits of energy efïŹcient low complexity architectures and on the analysis of their practical advantages and limits. Integrated intelligent sensors has emerged in a wide range of applications including health care, surveil lance, environment monitoring, smart buildings, and Internet of Things, etc, and has significantly benefited society due to alleviating certain monitoring and processing tasks. However, novel applications such as wearable biomedical devices require further miniaturization of existing state of the art hardware while having more signal processing capability due to the need to perform real time processing, i.e. not only monitoring but also detecting abnormal physiological signals and providing help by calling a hospital or ambulance. One fundamental problem with these applications is that the high performance signal processing circuit consumes too much power, which limits system battery lifetime or processing capability. Thus, these applications require the design of low power signal processing hardware, especially multiply and accumulate (MAC) circuits, which are widely used in linear signal processing algorithms. Accordingly, the goal of the proposed research is to address these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. History of Music in Horror Films Essay A history of the sound in horror films Horror films are known for their ability to scare audiences, to get the audience s hearts racing, their blood rushing. A good horror film will cause viewers to be on the edge of their seats and having their perception of reality distorted as they attempt to understand the unraveling plot of the horror film. The tone of the film aides in the amount of suspense that a horror film produces, since a much darker film will create a more suspenseful atmosphere than one that is more focused on campy monster makeup. But the tone of a film is determined by the sound of the film, or in other words, the score. Sound or music in a horror film, or the lack thereof, make the intense scenes and without the addition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The tones and sounds created centered around a central melody that was known as the monster s music . This consistent score motif was characterized by harmonic, loud, crashing cords that featured minor seconds and more drawn out tones. This theme of monster music and a large emphasis on the final battle between good and evil continued throughout most film and saw a resurgence in the late 70s and early 80s with slasher films. Nightmare on Elm Street was one of the first slasher films to have a distinct theme that played throughout the movie whenever there was a conflict between the slasher, Freddy Krueger and the final girl. These songs were also some of the first to mirror the action on screen and create a strong symbolic tie between the direction given by the director and the composing of the music. During the final confrontation, Nancy in A Nightmare on Elm Street descends into the basement and to mimic Nancy s movement the composer, Charles Bernstein, by having descending notes that follow Nancy s movement into where we are led to believe Freddy resides. Without this ominous feel, the movie would lack most of its punch. This is a grand example of one lackluster, albeit classic, horror film that is somewhat saved by a stupendous score. Touching Behaviour in Conversational Dyads Running head: TOUCHING BEHAVIOUR CONVERSATION Touching Behaviour in Conversational Dyads Mark Odean Grant University of the West Indies, Mona December 8, 2006 Humans are social and diversely interactive beings. As a result, there is the frequent practice of touching during conversation. This touching may be the conscious decision of individuals, as well as simply a spontaneous form of expression or response. An operational definition of touching would involve the initiation of physical contact between two individuals; for example, shaking hands (Fowler and Fowler, 1969). A conversation involves communication between two individuals by word of mouth (Fowler and Fowler, 1969). Touching as a complement of conversation is very common, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Apparatus/Instruments A three section Record Sheet (see Appendix) was designed for the purpose of the study. The sheet had spaces to record the number of hand and body touches of the three types of dyads (F F, M M, and M F) as well as some demographics – the location, date and time the observation was made. Also a timing device (e.g. watch or stopwatch) was used for the purpose of the one minute period of observation. These devices however were selected based on what was available to individual researcher. Procedure Each student of the PS 11A class was given a Record Sheet (see Appendix) for the purpose of recording their observations. Using a haphazard sampling approach, the students unobtrusively observed the three sets of dyads (F F, M M and M F) for one minute, while they were in conversation on the university campus. The number of hands and body touches were recorded for each set of dyads during the minute. Examples of hand touches include hand to hand, hand to face, hand to leg, hand to shoulder. Examples of body touches include body to body, kissing and hugging.) For the purpose of establishing inter rater reliability, only new touches that took place in the minute were recorded. Accordingly, if the dyads were touching before the minute of observation started, this was not counted or recorded. Also, students, during tutorial sessions were guided as to how to count record touches. This was done through role play exercises where the students (observers) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
