The Opposition Of Quebec Separatism
In recent elections, the separatist parties in Quebec have seen crushing defeats, raising questions about
their relevance in modern day Canada. Support for Quebec separatism has diminished in the past
several decades, with the rise of the NDP in the 2011 federal election and the more recent provincial
Liberal victory in April of 2014. In the 2011 federal election, specifically, the Bloc Quebecois was
reduced to only four seats in the House of Commons, while the NDP took the majority of Quebec s
seats. The provincial Parti Quebecois (PQ) has also been faltering, losing more often than not to the
Liberal Party of Quebec (PLQ). Indeed, over the past decade, the PLQ has only lost one election, and
has held majorities in many. The most recent election put them back into power after a short PQ
minority government that began in 2012. These recent elections may point to a future in which the
separatist movement in Quebec may be silenced. Since the late 1950s, the question of Quebec
separatism has existed, with levels of support varying throughout the following decades, leading up
the referendums of 1980 and 1995. The defeats suffered by the separatist parties in recent elections
demonstrate that the separatist movement may be close to being over in Quebec. The history of
Quebec within Canada has been problematic since the very beginnings of Canada. The clash of the
culture of the French and English speaking Canadians has created tensions in Canada since the British
took over in

The Soviet Union During The Cold War
In 1989, history in the West abruptly shifted course. The communist regimes in Eastern Europe fell,
severing these nations ties to the Soviet Union and sparking unprecedented political and economic
reforms. Two years later, the Soviet Union itself disintegrated. The Cold War ended along with it, a
sharply defined historical era stretching back to 1914. The end of the Cold War renewed the
commitment to democracy and capitalism in the West, accelerated the existing movement toward
unification in Europe, and left the United States standing as the sole military superpower in the world.
But the collapse of communism did not end all the anxieties present during the Cold War era. The
transition in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union proved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It changed from a communist dictatorship into a multiparty democracy in which officials are chosen in
regular elections. It s centrally planned economy was reshaped into a capitalist order based on markets
and private property. Its army withdrew peacefully from eastern Europe and the former Soviet
republics, allowing the latter to become independent countries. Russia is doing very well after
Communism, it now has economic success and general equality.

Analysis Of The Movie The Shawshank Redemption
To be honest, I have seen The Shawshank Redemption but it has been a while so figured that I ll watch

life of former vice president banker Andy Dufrasne. Innocent in the double murder of his wife and her

abused by some prisoners, he opened up to fellow prisoners Red the contraband smuggler. After doing
paper work for Capt. Hadley in tax inheritance one day, Andy was given better treatment such as
organizing the library to even helping prison staff and the warden s taxes and other financial works. In
return, Hadley permanently injured one Andy s abusers and Warden Norton allowing Andy to write

Patriotism In White City
The World s Columbian Exposition, or Chicago World s Fair of 1893 as it came to be known, was the
fair that changed America (Larson). It ushered in a period of great achievements and a sense of
patriotism, as well as civic pride. However, amidst the glorious celebration, there was an evil lurking;
from the murderous Dr. Henry Howard Holmes to the delusions of Patrick Eugene Joseph
Prendergast. Erik Larson tells the story of Chicago s White City (named for the color of the exhibits),
touching upon the lives of those who were affected, and successfully conveying to the reader an image
of a time period that changed the course of America. The White City was used to show the world that
America was not a small nation struggling to get along, but rather a nation that could compete with
any other in every imaginable area. It served as a symbol of American and civic pride. The decision to
hold the exposition came in 1889, after Alexandre Gustave Eiffel unveiled his tower. To America, this

Like Jack the Ripper, most of Holmes numerous victims were females. Some of them worked for him
as stenographers in his pharmacy or hotel, and others he courted and later married. However, unlike
the infamous British serial killer, Holmes did not kill face to face. He preferred being near enough to
hear the approach of death in the rising panic of his victims (349). It was in those moments that his
quest for possession entered its most satisfying phase (349). For Holmes, choosing how his victims
died, be it [filling] a room with gas and [letting] the guest expire in her sleep, or [creeping] in with his

Alice Munro Research Paper
Reading literature from around the world is one of the most important things people can do in school
and at home. It allows students to learn the truth about misconceptions they might have about other
places. Many of these stories can also teach students many other important lessons. Alice Munro is an
author who s stories can do both of these things for students. Alice Munro should be included in the
World Literature course. She should be included because her short story Day of the Butterfly teaches a
lesson that every student should learn about, she won a Nobel Prize in Literature because of her short
stories, and she based many of her stories on her own real life experiences.

These experiences were important for her and her short stories. When talking about her hometown,
she said, I am intoxicated by this particular landscape, at home with the brick houses, the falling down
barns, the trailer parks, burdensome old churches ( Alice Munro Biographical ). She based the setting
in many of her stories on her rural hometown in Ontario (Munro 33). Her living in Wingham, Ontario
also inspired her to write events in her short stories that were complex as ones in novels ( Alice Munro
Facts ). She says everybody has a role that others create for them in a small town (Munro 33). She
knows because of her experience from living in a rural area. She uses this to create realistic stories
including Day of the Butterfly. This idea is evident in the way the others treated Myra in Day of the
Butterfly. When Munro was in school, she came up with ideas for stories while she walked to there (
Alice Munro Biographical ). She says, I was eight, it was quite a walk, but I liked it ( Alice Munro
Biographical ). Her stories were also inspired by real life events in her hometown like her mother s
death ( Alice Munro Biographical ). It is clear that her own real life experiences influenced her writing
and that the stories that won her a Nobel Prize were based on them. Therefore, these stories should be

Vertical Collaboration Vs Vertical Coordination
According to Reframing Organizations the benefits of a formal structure helps a company to not waste
time and money especially on training products in an effort to solve problems that deal with social
architecture instead of people. Structure, basically a blueprint for internal management/ employees
and external constituencies like clients and competitors to follow. It has been said that structural form
enhances and constrains what an organization can accomplish. Originations that are successful
incorporate a variety of methods to coordinate individual and group efforts and to link local initiatives
to worldwide goals. They accomplish this by using both vertical and lateral coordination, they both
support growth in the organization. Vertical coordination is more through the chains of command.
Higher ups maintain the work of subordinates through authority, policy procedures, and planning
control. A great example of vertical coordination is farming. Ensuring each stage in the production,
processing, and marketing of a product is appropriately managed and interrelated to the next, so that
decisions about what to produce, and how much, are communicated as efficiently as possible from the
consumer to the producer (Vertical coordination. (n.d.). Retrieved March 12, 2016, from

How Teens Can t Too Much Time On Children s Eyes
There has been a recent problem around the world: adolescents can t seem to concentrate on their
school work due to our modern day technology. To further explain, 21st century devices are all
children s eyes are on. Whether they re playing Pokemon Go, listening to music or watching videos,
posting on social media or filming a music video on Musical.ly, youngsters are constantly on their

Pros And Cons Of The Paleo Diet
On the other hand opponents of the Paleo Diet point out what they see as a major flaw in the pro Paleo
argument: There aren t any research backed reasons to cut dairy, legumes and grains out of one s diet.
Thus, the Paleo diet might have unintended health consequences and may not be representational of a
true Paleolithic diet. Ferris Jabr, How to Really Eat Like a Hunter Gatherer: Why the Paleo Diet Is
Half Baked, states that we are not biologically identical to our Paleolithic predecessors, nor do we
have access to the foods they ate. Matt Purdy, Paleo Schmaleo: Why the Paleo diet is wrong, indicates
that it was the glucose in starches like potatoes, cooked by our Paleolithic ancestors, which allowed
the human brain to develop. Kathleen Burke,

Genocide In Bosnia Research Paper
Genocide In Bosnia The Genocide in Bosnia was the outcome of misleadership and late intervention
by the world. The Bosnian conflict was a war that led to the death of over 100,000 soldiers and
civilians(War Crime). The war consisted consisted of two sides: the Bosnian Serbs and the Bosnian
Croats. The conflict was handled improperly. It even came close to home as one american soldier was
stranded in Bosnia in the middle of the war witnessing all that the UN and the government of the
Bosnian Serbs would pronounce to be false. Genocide means any of the following acts committed
with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group(US Holocaust

African American History During my early years of school, I remember being taught white
accomplishments and wondering if blacks and other people of color had made any significant
contributions to today s world. I noticed that television consist of all white people. Throughout my
research paper I hope to cover certain aspects of African American heritage. Aspects such as blacks
making up the largest minority group in the United States, although Mexican Americans are rapidly
changing that. The contributions blacks have provided to our country are immeasurable. Unfortunately
though rather than recognizing these contributions, white America would rather focus on oppressing
and degrading these people. As a consequence American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Individuality was not stressed but rather the importance of the extended family. I believe that African
Americans suffering through the hardships of slavery strengthened the idea of kinship even further.
The unity of the African culture became strong due to a series of trials and tribulations. The majority
of the slaves were employed in agricultural areas in the South. By the mid 19th century, a large
number of slaves worked in urban areas as well, and about 5% worked in more industrial occupations.
The hours of the slave workers were long. The average life expectancy of African slaves was at least
12% lower than whit Americans in 1850 and the infant mortality rate was 25% higher for slaves.
Oftentimes slave marriages and families dissolved due to separation. This concept is horrible when
you take under consideration that family was the entire basis of African culture. Although frequent
separation occurred slaves were very careful to pass on the surnames of their black family of origin to
their children. Kinship again is an importance in African society. Although the first steps towards in
improvements for African American culture began in the North, social and economic conditions didn t
improve much at all. The racial attitudes of whites were still obvious among the white society. Laws
banning interracial marriage and voting among free blacks accompanied every northern state
emancipation. These laws were supposedly designed to

The Impact Of Social Media And Its Impact On Society
It is proven that social media has had a huge impact on the way we live our daily lives. Not only has it
changed the way we go about our days, it has changed the way we communicate and interact with the
ones we care the most about. Social media has positively and negatively impacted our relationships
with others. The original intent of social network was to allow people to more readily stay connected
with friends and family (Qualman, 286). Yet, how regularly do we judge how much social media has
affected the way we interface with those that we are closest to? Social media has allowed us to
connect with more people in various parts of the world that we wouldn t necessarily meet on a week to
week basis. With the expansion in the number of contacts, we can observe that we have access to
numerous more thoughts and assets. It is a lot easier to meet people that have the same traits as you,
and it is shown when out of five couples meet online (Qualman, 274). Websites like E Harmony,
Tinder, and Match.com make it easier for single people to find other s online and communicate before
even meeting them. Social media has made it simpler to broaden your effective reach and grow it to
incorporate individuals you d get the chance to meet, or might want to know better. Many
relationships have flourished and grown into marriages because of these websites and apps and there
is a potential these certain people wouldn t have met without them. In the previous couple of years,

Prostitution, Drugs And Money Laundering
Prostitution, drugs and money laundering are all tied together in the underground world of the public
crimes arena. In fact, acts are all influenced by the political, economic, and social relations intertwined
with organized crime resulting in violence, public health issues, and money laundering schemes.
Markets can be found online, on the streets, and through legitimate and illegitimate practices. The very
nature of prostitution and drug crimes are considered victimless crimes, resulting in collateral damage
against the innocent, but each criminal act can harm the innocent in various degrees. Drug addiction
has affected all classes, races, and ethnicities for all time around the world. Drugs have not only been
used for medical and religious purposes, but they are also illegally manufactured, smuggled, and
distributed globally on the criminal market due to technological advancements today. One might say
this harm is only affecting the individual user, but this is simply not true. Drugs use leads to addiction
causing mental and physical damage to those who use them. However, the power of addiction often
leads to other heinous crimes and theft to support the habit. Antidrug legislation and policies have
been used to control the drug problem by implanting stiffer penalties for drug offenses even in small
quantities. Nevertheless, the manufacture and distribution of large quantities can carry a sentence of
10 years to life and $4 to $10 million dollar fine. Although

I have to assume that the skulls that were closest to walking on four legs lived in environments with a
lot of trees and high grounds. That being said, now I have to assume that our ancestors eventually
found it easier to live in long plains and migrated which made them lose the need to be efficient on all
fours, thus leading to bipedalism.
Conclusion:
My hypothesis is was not supported since there was not a single organism that walked on four legs
according to my data. I realized that just the general shape and condition of the skull didn t correlate
with how old it was, but the cranial capacity was the major determining factor. Every time humans
evolved the need for their mental capacity increased and that s evident in the skulls: the oldest having
the smallest cranial capacity, the most recent having the largest cranial capacity. I also want to say that
according to my data, our ancestors didn t all just start walking on two legs one day, but the need to
walk on two legs wasn t there for a couple of our ancestors which is why some are so close to not
being able to walk on two legs at all. That leads me to say that bipedalism was not dependant on when
an organism was alive but where an organism was alive. As for prognathism, I also believe that

The Importance Of Love In Just Kids By Patti Smith
For being different, easy. But to be unique, it s a complicated thing, said Lady Gaga. As a young child,
I have always been different but creative. My vigorous thirst of art making fostered by attending the
Langley Fine Arts School and all women s college Moore College of Art and Design. This might
sound atypical to any other story of a young artist, but I am going to explain why my story is unique.
A friend once said to me An artist sees the world in a different way. It was uncanny to hear this
because I have only known the world through my artist eyes. My story is different because my first
love was unique. Do you remember your first love? Why is your first love, so different from all the
other loves? It s because it s your first. It s that love that you can never let go because it was built on
friendship, laughter, and connection. My first love was an unrequited love, when I was eleven years
old for a gay boy. At the time I assumed nothing of it because I was just being a kid. This story is akin
to Patti Smith, author of the remarkable novel Just Kids. This honest story that tells the tale of two
friends, soul mates, roommates, lovers, and muses. Patti Smith speaks about her relationship with
Robert Mapplethorpe, a young gay photographer. This extraordinary novel reveals how Patti Smith
saw the world; how through her youthful eyes, she thought Mapplethorpe was her creative soul mate.
Nevertheless, since I was 18 years old, I have struggled with accepting and

Introduction
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) morbidity and mortality has reached epidemic proportions.
Consequently, the importance of prevention of the disease, in addition to the treatment of the clinical
outcome of the existing disease, has emerged as a priority in the field. These efforts have turned to
what is in fact the underlying cause of myocardial infarctions and the resulting heart disease,
specifically, atherosclerotic vascular disease.
This vascular condition affects the entire vascular tree and is also the cause of cerebrovascular and
peripheral vascular disease (PAD), as well as the reason for major clinical complications such as
restenosis and vein graft arterialisation. The development of atherosclerotic vascular disease involves
a complex interplay of genetic, metabolic, cellular, and immunological factors, and understanding
these factors is the first step in targeting heart disease.
Aetiology of the disease
aetiology: describe the specific disorder and the biological basis of its cause of origin
CVD are diseases of the cardiac muscle or vasculature. The cause of most CVD is a build up of
atheroma a fatty deposit within the inside lining of blood vessels arteries. Atheroma is also known as

Orestes An Innocent Hero Essay
Orestes: An Innocent Hero
Throughout time there has been a universal question that does not yet yield a universal answer. All
people have a different view on whether or not it is right to avenge the killing of another, through the
death of the killers. In America during this day and age, it is the obligation of the court system to
decide whether or not a murderer should be put to death. Most of the time, the criminal is sentenced to
a prison term, but when a judge decides to issue the death penalty there is usually an uproar among the
people. Does the court now become a murderer along with the convicted felon or is the court an

As it turns out Apollo actually commanded Orestes to avenge the death of his father. We can see this
clearly when Apollo literally says, amp;#8220; I commanded him to avenge his father . . . ;
(Aeschylus, 239) Orestes amp;#8217; case was also helped when Apollo came forward and became
his witness, and took part of the blame as well.
amp;#8220;I come as a witness. This man, according to custom, this suppliant sought out my house

mother amp;#8217;s execution. Bring on the trial. You know the rules, now turn them into justice. ;
(Aeschylus, 256)
Some may ask the Question, amp;#8220;Who is Apollo to say that this man is innocent, and why does
his opinion matter? ; In this case, Apollo has a huge authority over all of the other gods and for one
reason only. He is a servant of Zeus, and through Orestes, he has carried out

Anglerfish Vs Polar Bear
The anglerfish and polar bear adapt to very extreme enviorments. The polar bears have to adapt to
very cold weather. The anglerfish have to adapt to the very little food source they have in the deep sea.
They both have devoloped many features that can help them while they live in these extreme
enviroments. Anglerfish adapt to very extreme envirorments which they live in. Anglerfish can expand
their stomachs so that they can eat two times their size. This is really good because in the deep sea
food is very scarce. So the fact that they can eat lager paportions is a very good adaption in their part.
If they were not able to do that they would probally end up dieing. The anglerfish developed a
relationship with a certain type of bacteria that can glow. That bacteria is in them but it stays in their
esca. This is a good thing because that makes them be able to light their esca so that they can draw
prey in and eat them. Also when they light their esca you can not see them at all you only see a light
and that is why the prey does not think any thing is wrong and goes up to the esca. ... Show more

they can hunt their prey under water. They can also smell seals from over a mile away. They can adapt

camouflage into snowy surroundings. They also have black fur which absorbs heat from the sun. They

Vulnerability Assessment ( Va )
1. Introduction
Security is a standout amongst the most difficult and complex issue in Information Technology (IT)
today. Security causes millions of dollars loss to the different organizations every year. Even if 99% of
all assaults result from known vulnerabilities and flawed misconfigurations, an answer is most
certainly not direct. With a crowd of networks, operating system and application related
vulnerabilities, security specialists are getting the opportunity to be logically aware of the need to
review and direct potential security dangers on their network and systems. This requires a more
effective and insightful way to deal with sustaining the project. Vulnerability Assessment (VA) is the
procedure of identifying, quantifying, measuring and organizing dangers connected with system and
host based network to reduce its risk to the system. Vulnerability Assessment (VA) tools permit
customization of security strategy, computerized examination of vulnerabilities, and formation of
reports that helps to discover security vulnerability.
Network around the world is connected through various hardware and application. Different types of
connections are used to connect network around the world. Many organizations and companies are
using different types of network connected to the internet to flourish their business related activities.
Network is mainly categorized into three forms: LAN, MAN and WAN. All these network are

Personal Philosophy Reflection Paper
For the past six weeks, I learned how philosophy has influenced the world globally. Learning that
when human beings voice their thoughts with others, they receive a chance to change the world,
especially if one person speaks one on one, one personage can change the world of one body. My
belief in the power of language is strengthened by philosophy. This philosophy course has encouraged
me to share my opinions that are not influenced by other peers or older adults, but to deeply reflect
and research my beliefs and opinions. Looking at how philosophy has shaped the United States, I
grant my thankfulness towards the Constitution, and the democracy and freedom we now have,
compared to other countries.

Before philosophy my views would have leaned a little bit more towards a socialist country, but now I
gratitude freedom in hard work, education, speech, etc.
From my readings to research from Edutopia to literature courses, I have gained a deeper appreciation
for language. In order to understand what one is speaking, a person needs to spend time listening to
one s language and before responding must reflect and analyze what the other said and how to
respond. If a person wants to love another person they have to listen to their language in order to
speak their language, and the core part of learning another language is by listening. According to Joan
Blaska, author of The Power of Language: Speak and Write Using Person First the language people
use shows one s bias and prejudices. Beliefs and another s performance fall under the influence of
language. Blaska claimed the degree to which children are able to perceive themselves as competent
and worthy, or the opposite, is heavily influenced by the verbalizations used by their teachers...Studies
have found that labeling of students does affect teacher expectations which in turn affects student
progress . People have heavy influence with their words, because of this, our language must be
intentional in a way, that breaks down negative stereotypes and helps one gain empathy as well as
seeing others capabilities. Communicating and reading others comments and inquiring others has

Using A Different Setup Than A Standard Linear Optical System
Using a different setup than a standard linear optical system, [SOURCE]Choi et al. are able to use
trapped ions as qubits in an optical quantum computer. As a direct result, unique possibilities for
addressing scalability issues are discovered. Since trapped ions already have fundamentally low levels
of coherent error, suppression of that error in a scaled quantum computer requires significantly less
error correction. Also, the group demonstrates an architecture in which more than two entangled
qubits could be addressed simultaneously, further expanding the possibility of scaling. Some research
indicates that linear optical systems could contain unexplored features that would greatly increase the
feasibility of scalability for quantum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Properties like this make working with double donor systems much easier. Still, some of the end
results of experiments using single dot schemes have advanced quantum computing in general, via a
combination of multiple schemes. An article by Calderón et al., in tandem with other previous
experiments that allow for coherence times near a second, provide a possible solution to avoiding
coherent error. The use of a single electron donor for isolated qubits has one interesting result:
Calderón describes the unique state when he says if they form a triplet, selection rules imply a much
longer lived state. This unique situation does not come as a result of double donors, only single. By
using only single dot triplets, it might be possible to combine the system with others because of its
abnormally long coherence time and high accuracy. As discussed, the use of single dot architecture
could be combined in unique ways with linear optical schemes. [SOURCE] Economou et al. support
this idea, stating [s]pins...have received a great deal of attention because they interact strongly with
light and provide the opportunity for ultrafast all optical implementation of logical operations. While
the negative implications of that statement, especially in decoherence caused by environmental

aircraft icing Essay
Introduction
Plane crashes occur for a number of reasons. There seems to be a consensus with the general public
that flying is dangerous, engines fail and planes crash. That is true some times, although the majority
of plane crashes occur largely due to a combination of human error and mechanical failure. In much of
aviations accidents mechanical failure has been a contributing factor. It is impossible however to
blame plane crashes on one reason since events leading up to an accident are so varied. Reasoning for
plane crashes can be placed in a broad number of categories.

This accident could have been avoided if proper procedure was followed in deicing.
The NTSB investigation concluded that the combination of the crew s use of thrust reverse on the
ground for push back, and their failure to active the engine anti ice system caused the crash. By failing
to activate the engine anti ice system, large amounts of snow and ice that were sucked into the engines
during reverse thrust were allowed to remain there. Ice built up on the compressor inlet pressure
probe, which measures engine power. As a result instrument indications in the cockpit showed an
Engine Pressure Ratio of 2.04, while the power plants were in reality only producing 1.70 EPR, or
about 70% of available power. The combination of the ice covered wings and low power caused an
immediate stall on takeoff killing 74 people. (Kilroy, 9).
In Americans Eagle Flight 4184 October 31, 1994, heavy air traffic and poor weather postponed the
arrival of this flight at Chicago s O Hare International Airport, where it was to have landed en route
from Indianapolis, Indiana.
The ATR 72, a twin engine turboprop carrying 68 people, entered a holding pattern 65 miles southeast
of O Hare, which it maintained for over an hour in freezing rain. As the plane circled, a ridge of ice
formed on the upper surface of its wings, eventually causing the aircraft s autopilot to suddenly
disconnect and the pilots to lose control. The ATR disintegrated on impact with a field below, killing
everyone aboard.

W.E.B. DuBois The Souls of Black Folk Essay
W.E.B. DuBois The Souls of Black Folk
W.E.B. DuBois, in The Souls of Black Folk describes the very poignant image of a veil between the
blacks and the whites in his society. He constructs the concept of a double consciousness, wherein a
black person has two identities as two completely separate individuals, in order to demonstrate the
fallacy of these opinions. J.S. Mill also describes a certain fallacy in his own freedom of thought, a
general conception of individuals that allows them to accept something similar to DuBois double
consciousness and perpetuates the existence of the veil.
DuBois double consciousness is quite simply the twoness of American Negroes. It is this sense of
always looking at one s self through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As DuBois looks through the veil, he can see a world that he loves, but cannot belong to because it
belongs to the whites. The veil perpetuates the concept of alienation from the world to which he
knows he will never belong. From the other side, whites look through at blacks, and construct their
own opinions of the opposing race, and in doing so, create an opinion that is accepted by blacks
themselves. The distortion created by the veil muddles the world of the whites and also the self
knowledge within each individual on the black side of the veil.
This sort of idea is the same thing that Mill critiques in the early parts of On Liberty. Mill discusses
that few think it necessary to take any precautions against their own fallibility, or admit the
supposition that any opinion, of which they feel very certain, may be one of the examples of error to
which they acknowledge themselves to be liable. (Mill 615). Herein lies the problem of the whites, as
over time they have come to accept their own ideas of the blacks in the United States without
accepting the possibility of their own fallibility. Mill would argue that dissenting voices need to be
heard in order to bring forth the right opinions, but with the veil the DuBois discusses, this is an
impossibility. Mill discusses the infallibility of the the world in general (Mill 615) that is accepted by
individuals living in a particular place.

Winston Churchill And Odysseus Comparison
True Heroes: Odysseus and Winston Churchill
Heroes solve problems, deliver justice and give people a sense of hope when darkness looms. Merriam
Webster defines a hero as a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with
great strength or ability (Merriam Webster). Exploring the nature and work of Odysseus and Winston
Churchill, both have the essential qualities that confirm they are heroes. By comparing the values of
intelligence, courage, and perseverance in Odysseus, the king of Ithaka in ancient Greek mythology,
and Winston Churchill, the leader of Great Britain during the Second World War, the similar
characteristics displayed reveal their heroic nature and bravery. Courageous, noble qualities,
leadership, bravery, physical and mental strength, intelligence, and risking one s life are just a few
characteristics that describe a hero. Odysseus heroic traits are demonstrated throughout many different
situations in The Odyssey. While on the Island of the Cyclopes, Odysseus and his crew were nearly
killed by the giant one eyed Cyclops, Polyphemus. Intelligent Odysseus says, My name is Nohbdy:
mother, father, and friends, everyone calls me Nohbdy (The Odyssey 9.274 275). Odysseus cleverness
to give a false name allowed him to hide his identity as king of Ithaca and trick the neighboring
Cyclops. Odysseus anticipated Polyphemus s cry for help and avoided getting chased by the other

The Prestige Film Analysis
Intro to Cinema Midterm The film The Prestige is one of many masterful Nolan films that walks the
line between being a meta film about the film industry, and being focused on immersing the audience
in the actual content of the film. At a close inspection, comparisons to the film industry can be seen,
but they are not so obvious to distract the audience from the central conflicts that are at the forefront
of the film. The subject of the film could most easily be defined as surrounding the topics of obsession
or fame. More specifically, the obsession of fame, and the illusion of happiness that fame projects. The
main characters of the movie both urn for the fame of being the world s most successful entertainer,
even if for different reasons. The editing of the movie allows for the audience to have a unique
perspective of how the events transpire. The non chronological order of the film allows the audience
to see the effects before the causes, and to see the deception through a non linear lens. The events are
lined up in a manner that is more like the recollection of memories, than the linear nature of recorded
film. By using the two journals as a form of narrative we can see what we think is the inner
monologue of the different characters, or rather what about themselves they want to reveal to each
other. It is this nature of editing that allows us to slowly understand the secretes of the film in a unique
way. The film shows the answers to questions before they are asked

Whilst not being outside the EU does not mean that the UK will be excluded from the single market, it
would be within the UK s best interest to negotiate a favorable trade agreement. Exclusion will not be
a barrier to trade but rather an inconvenience, that if approached strategically could enable the UK to
broker a unilateral free trade policy that allow for speedier negotiations with other countries outside
the EU. Possible tariffs on exports to the EU could be a challenge however the upside is that there is
an opportunity to trade with other countries.
According to an government commissioned review conducted by industry chief Jürgen Maier, Brexit

  • 2. The Opposition Of Quebec Separatism In recent elections, the separatist parties in Quebec have seen crushing defeats, raising questions about their relevance in modern day Canada. Support for Quebec separatism has diminished in the past several decades, with the rise of the NDP in the 2011 federal election and the more recent provincial Liberal victory in April of 2014. In the 2011 federal election, specifically, the Bloc Quebecois was reduced to only four seats in the House of Commons, while the NDP took the majority of Quebec s seats. The provincial Parti Quebecois (PQ) has also been faltering, losing more often than not to the Liberal Party of Quebec (PLQ). Indeed, over the past decade, the PLQ has only lost one election, and has held majorities in many. The most recent election put them back into power after a short PQ minority government that began in 2012. These recent elections may point to a future in which the separatist movement in Quebec may be silenced. Since the late 1950s, the question of Quebec separatism has existed, with levels of support varying throughout the following decades, leading up the referendums of 1980 and 1995. The defeats suffered by the separatist parties in recent elections demonstrate that the separatist movement may be close to being over in Quebec. The history of Quebec within Canada has been problematic since the very beginnings of Canada. The clash of the culture of the French and English speaking Canadians has created tensions in Canada since the British took over in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Soviet Union During The Cold War In 1989, history in the West abruptly shifted course. The communist regimes in Eastern Europe fell, severing these nations ties to the Soviet Union and sparking unprecedented political and economic reforms. Two years later, the Soviet Union itself disintegrated. The Cold War ended along with it, a sharply defined historical era stretching back to 1914. The end of the Cold War renewed the commitment to democracy and capitalism in the West, accelerated the existing movement toward unification in Europe, and left the United States standing as the sole military superpower in the world. • 6. Patriotism In White City The World s Columbian Exposition, or Chicago World s Fair of 1893 as it came to be known, was the fair that changed America (Larson). It ushered in a period of great achievements and a sense of patriotism, as well as civic pride. However, amidst the glorious celebration, there was an evil lurking; from the murderous Dr. Henry Howard Holmes to the delusions of Patrick Eugene Joseph Prendergast. Erik Larson tells the story of Chicago s White City (named for the color of the exhibits), touching upon the lives of those who were affected, and successfully conveying to the reader an image of a time period that changed the course of America. The White City was used to show the world that America was not a small nation struggling to get along, but rather a nation that could compete with any other in every imaginable area. It served as a symbol of American and civic pride. The decision to hold the exposition came in 1889, after Alexandre Gustave Eiffel unveiled his tower. For Holmes, choosing how his victims died, be it [filling] a room with gas and [letting] the guest expire in her sleep, or [creeping] in with his passkey and [pressing] a chloroform soaked rag to his face (349), was a measure of his power; the ultimate form of establishing dominance over the ... • 8. Vertical Collaboration Vs Vertical Coordination According to Reframing Organizations the benefits of a formal structure helps a company to not waste time and money especially on training products in an effort to solve problems that deal with social architecture instead of people. Structure, basically a blueprint for internal management/ employees and external constituencies like clients and competitors to follow. It has been said that structural form enhances and constrains what an organization can accomplish. Originations that are successful incorporate a variety of methods to coordinate individual and group efforts and to link local initiatives to worldwide goals. They accomplish this by using both vertical and lateral coordination, they both support growth in the organization. Vertical coordination is more through the chains of command. Higher ups maintain the work of subordinates through authority, policy procedures, and planning control. A great example of vertical coordination is farming. I believe that African Americans suffering through the hardships of slavery strengthened the idea of kinship even further. The unity of the African culture became strong due to a series of trials and tribulations. The majority of the slaves were employed in agricultural areas in the South. By the mid 19th century, a large number of slaves worked in urban areas as well, and about 5% worked in more industrial occupations. The hours of the slave workers were long. The average life expectancy of African slaves was at least 12% lower than whit Americans in 1850 and the infant mortality rate was 25% higher for slaves. Oftentimes slave marriages and families dissolved due to separation. This concept is horrible when you take under consideration that family was the entire basis of African culture. Although frequent separation occurred slaves were very careful to pass on the surnames of their black family of origin to their children. Kinship again is an importance in African society. Although the first steps towards in improvements for African American culture began in the North, social and economic conditions didn t improve much at all. Not only has it changed the way we go about our days, it has changed the way we communicate and interact with the ones we care the most about. Social media has positively and negatively impacted our relationships with others. The original intent of social network was to allow people to more readily stay connected with friends and family (Qualman, 286). Yet, how regularly do we judge how much social media has affected the way we interface with those that we are closest to? Social media has allowed us to connect with more people in various parts of the world that we wouldn t necessarily meet on a week to week basis. With the expansion in the number of contacts, we can observe that we have access to numerous more thoughts and assets. It is a lot easier to meet people that have the same traits as you, and it is shown when out of five couples meet online (Qualman, 274). Websites like E Harmony, Tinder, and Match.com make it easier for single people to find other s online and communicate before even meeting them. Every time humans evolved the need for their mental capacity increased and that s evident in the skulls: the oldest having the smallest cranial capacity, the most recent having the largest cranial capacity. As a result instrument indications in the cockpit showed an Engine Pressure Ratio of 2.04, while the power plants were in reality only producing 1.70 EPR, or about 70% of available power. The combination of the ice covered wings and low power caused an immediate stall on takeoff killing 74 people. (Kilroy, 9). In Americans Eagle Flight 4184 October 31, 1994, heavy air traffic and poor weather postponed the arrival of this flight at Chicago s O Hare International Airport, where it was to have landed en route from Indianapolis, Indiana. The ATR 72, a twin engine turboprop carrying 68 people, entered a holding pattern 65 miles southeast of O Hare, which it maintained for over an hour in freezing rain. As the plane circled, a ridge of ice formed on the upper surface of its wings, eventually causing the aircraft s autopilot to suddenly disconnect and the pilots to lose control. The ATR disintegrated on impact with a field below, killing everyone aboard. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. W.E.B. DuBois The Souls of Black Folk Essay W.E.B. DuBois The Souls of Black Folk W.E.B. DuBois, in The Souls of Black Folk describes the very poignant image of a veil between the blacks and the whites in his society. He constructs the concept of a double consciousness, wherein a black person has two identities as two completely separate individuals, in order to demonstrate the fallacy of these opinions. J.S. Mill also describes a certain fallacy in his own freedom of thought, a general conception of individuals that allows them to accept something similar to DuBois double consciousness and perpetuates the existence of the veil. DuBois double consciousness is quite simply the twoness of American Negroes. It is this sense of always looking at one s self through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As DuBois looks through the veil, he can see a world that he loves, but cannot belong to because it belongs to the whites. The veil perpetuates the concept of alienation from the world to which he knows he will never belong. From the other side, whites look through at blacks, and construct their own opinions of the opposing race, and in doing so, create an opinion that is accepted by blacks themselves. The distortion created by the veil muddles the world of the whites and also the self knowledge within each individual on the black side of the veil. This sort of idea is the same thing that Mill critiques in the early parts of On Liberty. Mill discusses that few think it necessary to take any precautions against their own fallibility, or admit the supposition that any opinion, of which they feel very certain, may be one of the examples of error to which they acknowledge themselves to be liable. (Mill 615). Herein lies the problem of the whites, as over time they have come to accept their own ideas of the blacks in the United States without accepting the possibility of their own fallibility. Mill would argue that dissenting voices need to be heard in order to bring forth the right opinions, but with the veil the DuBois discusses, this is an impossibility. Mill discusses the infallibility of the the world in general (Mill 615) that is accepted by individuals living in a particular place. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Winston Churchill And Odysseus Comparison True Heroes: Odysseus and Winston Churchill Heroes solve problems, deliver justice and give people a sense of hope when darkness looms. Merriam Webster defines a hero as a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability (Merriam Webster). Exploring the nature and work of Odysseus and Winston Churchill, both have the essential qualities that confirm they are heroes. By comparing the values of intelligence, courage, and perseverance in Odysseus, the king of Ithaka in ancient Greek mythology, and Winston Churchill, the leader of Great Britain during the Second World War, the similar characteristics displayed reveal their heroic nature and bravery. Courageous, noble qualities, leadership, bravery, physical and mental strength, intelligence, and risking one s life are just a few characteristics that describe a hero. Odysseus heroic traits are demonstrated throughout many different situations in The Odyssey. While on the Island of the Cyclopes, Odysseus and his crew were nearly killed by the giant one eyed Cyclops, Polyphemus. Intelligent Odysseus says, My name is Nohbdy: mother, father, and friends, everyone calls me Nohbdy (The Odyssey 9.274 275). • 37. The Prestige Film Analysis Intro to Cinema Midterm The film The Prestige is one of many masterful Nolan films that walks the line between being a meta film about the film industry, and being focused on immersing the audience in the actual content of the film. At a close inspection, comparisons to the film industry can be seen, but they are not so obvious to distract the audience from the central conflicts that are at the forefront of the film. The subject of the film could most easily be defined as surrounding the topics of obsession or fame. More specifically, the obsession of fame, and the illusion of happiness that fame projects. The main characters of the movie both urn for the fame of being the world s most successful entertainer, even if for different reasons. The editing of the movie allows for the audience to have a unique perspective of how the events transpire. The non chronological order of the film allows the audience to see the effects before the causes, and to see the deception through a non linear lens. The events are lined up in a manner that is more like the recollection of memories, than the linear nature of recorded film. By using the two journals as a form of narrative we can see what we think is the inner monologue of the different characters, or rather what about themselves they want to reveal to each other. It is this nature of editing that allows us to slowly understand the secretes of the film in a unique way. The film shows the answers to questions before they are asked ... Therefore, we hold that the plaintiffs and others similarly situated for whom the actions have been brought are, by reason of the segregation complained of, deprived of the equal protection of the laws guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment (Schwartz, 198).
